Thelreads, MHA 286, Replies Part 1

1) “Things are about to get spicy, on Chapter 286: The one withing us

Oh, is this about how AfO is here, inside what used to be Shigaraki?”- Within Shigaraki, Izuku – it’s a regular family reunion between the living, the dead, and the asshole who’s just here to rub it all in their faces.

2) “Even AfO is not taking this shit, he knows Bakugo is fine, coughing blood when stabbed on the lungs is something all healthy boys his age do.

Now, are you going to activate his quirk and blow him up to damage Midoriya even more? Please?”- If he could have, he would have, but fortunately, Tomura’s fighting from the inside at the same time AFO’s hijacking control of his charcoal corpse to strike out at the heroes, so that means AFO can’t be as effective in killing the heroes as he wants to be- at least, not until the control gets a little stronger….

3) “Ah, so Todoroki will get a dash skill as well? Fucking hell everyone now has a dash, the balancing team needs to get their shit together”- Frankly, I’m more impressed by Shoto’s balance of everybody on just one foot. Even if he’s carrying one half-dead adult and one nearly-dead Pomeranian, that is some impressive skill to be able to keep himself aflost without any stabilising thrust. Boy’s got mad balancing skills.

4) “Oh this is definitely not Shigaraki talking, that’s for sure. Time for an evil speech?”- AFO doesn’t need to speak long to stab straight to the emotional heart of the matter…

5) “Nope, no evil speech, just trying to drive the knife deeper, but what he’s not counting on is that Midoriya is about to flip his fucking shit and he’ll make the potato face that All Might gave him look like a classical sculpture.”- Actually, that is what he’s counting on. AFO’s goal is to bring Izuku in close to finally get a hand on him to steal OFA with, and he figures that if Izuku’s anything like All Might, all it’ll take is hurting and more importantly, insulting his allies to make him flip his shit out and forget about the “bad touch” powers….and he was bang on the money.

6) “Oh this is definitely not a good sign.”- AFO pressed the Kachan button. Tomura really wishes he hadn’t done that… 7) “OH JESUS FUCK

MIDORIYA

WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU FUCKING RIPPED HIS TENTACLES WITH YOUR TEETH JESUS”- Midoria: Your throat and my teeth have an urgent appointment, bitch!

8) “CHRIST THIS VESSEL IS REALLY FALLING APART AND MIDORIYA IS ABOUT TO MAKE SURE NOT A SINGLE CELL REMAINS TO TELL THE TALE”- Tomura’s gone through a small army of assembled heroes, been burned, battered and pushed to the brink of death, and he’s never once panicked or thought he was in danger of losing. But this?. Seeing Izuku’s sheer wrath aimed square at him? That’s the first time he’s actually gone “Uh-oh” ever since he awakened, faced with a force more primal and destructive than even himself.

9) “NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE

WHAT THE FUCKING NOPE

YEAH I MEAN, WE KNEW AFO WAS IN THERE, BUT WHAT THE FUCK NO

IS HE EMERGING FROM SHIGARAKI’S BODY LIKE A COCOON?”- And as always, AFO’s greatest skill is his ability to incite the anger of his opponents, pushing their buttons precisely so to manipulate them to his tune without effort, allowing him to puppet Izuku into reach as easily as he’s puppeteering Tomura’s body

10) “OKAY ALRIGHT LET US MOVE AWAY FROM THAT IT SEEMS

AND NOW GIGANTOMACHIA JUST REALIZED THAT AFO IS THERE AS WELL, AND BY THE VISUAL METAPHOR HIS SMELL IS COMING FROM INSIDE SHIGARAKI

I’M STARTING TO FEAR LIKE SHIGARAKI WAS PRETTY MUCH JUST A COCOON FOR HIM TO GET A STRONGER BODY”- It’s half symbolic….for now. But given how their vestiges/souls appear to be merging within Tomura’s body, it may well be that AFO could indeed be “reborn” within the chrysalis that is Tomura. All the advantages of youth and experience rolled into one. 11) “Oh what the fuck I thought that was Hawks there on the right for a moment Also, unfortunately that’s no more than to calm them down, because there’s no way to stop that thing. Those heroes don’t stand a chance, there’s no stopping it”- And he’s not even the real superweapon the villains have, but the prototype! @thelreads

🚨 MHA 285 - 286 spoilers 🚨

Anyway I wanna talk about this scene because some ppl were saying that it would have been more meaningful for Katsuki to say something like “I’m sorry” but I think what he said at that moment is perfect.

For one Katsuki’s atonement is something he is doing for himself because he feels that it is something Izuku deserves, it is not something that Izuku is particularly looking for since he has long since forgiven Katsuki. So saying something like “I’m sorry” would mean that he did what he did solely for his atonement and the guilt that he felt for bullying Izuku for all those years. But since he told Izuku to stop playing hero on his own, he was thinking about Izuku and Izuku’s well-being first and foremost rather than his guilt for what he did in the past. Meaning almost dying for Izuku (although his way of atoning) was mainly because he truly cares for him.

First, I wanted to adress this:

The growth of this boy. That’s what I love about Horikoshi’s storytelling. Show, don’t tell. Hearing an apology is great, I’m not denying that. But your past bully jumping without second thoughts to save you? That’s on another level. Him thinking about his past, about what he’s done, adressing his feelings about it- it’s all absolutely amazing.

Second thing

This and few previous scenes. In my eyes, it shows that AfO trully doesn’t care about the wellbeing of Tomura Shigaraki. Shouldn’t he be his own hero in a way? He should, yet to him this broken, shattered person is still just a vessel to fulfill his own desires, making AfO a really disgraceful villain unlike let’s say League of Villains.

And the last one

I just want to appreciate it. And hear your thoughts on this. I wonder how Shigaraki will interact with his grandmother. What will they have to say to each other? Too many questions!!

The Second Master

Ok, this is just a small observation but I thought I would put it up here. In the latest chapter, Gigantomachia smells two masters. Now this could just be Shigaraki and the weird AfO spirit he has within him. Still, the image itself reminded me of something.

The weird little core of flame is a lot like the visual depiction of OfA in the Joint Training arc.

As others have pointed out, this second master could actually be Deku. Whether that’s because he’s actually descended from AfO or just because the quirk itself is. Either way, Deku is going HAM on Shigaraki and acting a lot like Gigantomachia’s idea of a “king”. if so, I would imagine that Giganotmachia wouldn’t have been able to sense the connection before Deku awakened the new quirks/vestige part of OfA.

1) “Neither do y'all know what’s actually in there, fighting them. If any of you knew you’d run away in fear, but there’s no running away.”- It’s a rock and a hard place situation, except both of them are walking incarnations of destruction, and both of them are moving closer together as time goes on…. 2) “WAIT WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT SHIGARAKI PUTTING HIS HAND ON MIDORIYA WHAT NO NO NO NO ABSLOULTELY NOPE NOPE NOPE”- Actually, in this case we’re lucky, because it’s AFO putting Tomura’s hand on Izuku’s face, and his first order of business is to steal OFA before dusting Izuku, which gives our boy a second’s breathing room that others don’t have. 3) “OH THIS PLACE SEEMS FAMILIAR

OH GOD WE’RE ABOUT TO SEE SOME SHIT AREN’T WE

IS THIS GONNA BE A BATTLE IN THE MINDPLACE ARE WE GONNA PULL A STAN PINES”- Unfortunately, Izuku doesn’t have an ironclad defence built into his brain like an Iron plate or such, as evidenced by the crumbling jagged cracks you can see seeping into this place, originating from the presence of the mental fusion between Tomura and AFO. Just them being here is already starting to eat away at OFA’s defences, and once that goes, so too does Izuku. 4) “OH GOD THERE’S THEM

AND AFO SEEMS TO BE PUTTING SHIGARAKI DOWN

OH THIS IS NOT GONNA BE GOOD”- Putting him down by assimilating his mind into nothingness. Tomura always thought he’d be the big bad villain, was told by Garaki and AFO this would be the case, and it was technically correct….with the cravat that it was always going to be AFO in the driver’s seat once Tomura’s body was ready. 5) “OH GOD IT LOOKS LIKE HE’S GROWING OUT OF SHIGARAKI LIKE A PLANT, OR A FUNGUS”- The positioning also makes Tomura look like a literal ventriloquist’s dummy, underscoring how he’s becoming a puppet of AFO’s in body and mind.

6) “HE REALLY FUCKING TOOK OVER OH JESUS FUCK WE DIDN’T EVEN GOT TO SAY GOODBYE TO SHIGARAKI”- Well, Tomura’s not completely gone within, but it’s only a matter of time before the assimilation finishes….

7) “I RECOGNIZE THAT GLOVE

IT’S HER ISN’T IT???”- Izuku’s fought until his body and soul literally can’t stand up straight anymore. It’s about time the adults in his head pulled some weight of their own. 8) “IT’S HER

BUT NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT, I’M NOT LIKING THAT WE’RE HAVING BOTH OF THEM HAVING A HAND PLACED ON THEIR HEADS AS AN OLDER SPIRIT TELLS THEM THAT THEY ARE THERE TO TAKE CARE OF THINGS

I’M REALLY NOT LIKING THIS”- It’s again a showcase in contrasts. AFO’s hand on Tomura is full of “bad Touch” (in all senses of the word) vibes, almost petting him, whilst keeping his face bowed towards the ground, so he can’t stand up straight, showing his oppression. Nana’s hand is there as a support to Izuku, to let him know that he doesn’t need to keep trying to do it all himself and to just rest back for a moment whilst they take over the fight, now it’s moved into a realm where the Vestiges can contribute. 9) “Midoriya can’t lose his quirk here, but I’m having a feeling that he won’t leave this fight unscathed. There will be a price to be paid for being that close to the Lord of Evil himself. He is staring into the abyss, and his face is close enough that the Abyss can reach him”- Say, do you remember how AFO seemed to somehow know things about Izuku, like when OFA was awakening to the dormant Quirks of the past holders?

And do you recall how, in Harry Potter, it was revealed that Harry was actually an unknowing Horcrux to lord Voldemort himself, giving the latter the ability to mentally influence him in book 5, in order to serve his will? And how the wills of the past holders are similarly capable of controlling Izuku’s body if his own will is overridden?

I’m not saying that the Vestiges won’t be on guard against mental intrusion from AFO, but there’s a hell of a lot of overlap between the HP books and this whole “stealing my protégée’s soul to live forever” plot AFO’s cooked up, and that should be very concerning for Izuku…

On a related note, the reason Izuku's depicted as a cute sheep as his spirit animal is because of thier shared adorableness, but also, if given enough time to train/grow, a sheep can fully grow their horns in, and become extremely capable of messing you up with them, just like All Might the Ram with the grown horns is the strongest hero in the world, so it's to showcase how he's both cute and deceptivly dangerous at the same time. BnHA/MHA chapter 286 reaction and spoilers

I have questions about Todoroki’s suit. Like I know it probably helps him control body temperature, which is why it’s now shaped like Endeavor’s, but I’m curious if it also helps him with sustaining strength or if perhaps his quirk can help him do that too considering not only is he holding onto Endeavor with one arm but he managed to catch Bakugou with the other arm. So right now Todoroki’s responsible for probably close to 350 pounds of weight right now? Given the potential weights of Endeavor and Bakugou’s hero costumes especially since Bakugou hasn’t let off an explosion in a while.

I like that Midoriya looks like an angry hedgehog. It’s almost distracting me from how much his eyes look like Kurogiri’s eyes especially when we saw them lit up on Shirakumo’s face.

Also interesting to see Shigaraki splitting apart and revealing a nomu-like face underneath. Really can’t wait for this sequence to get animated even if I have to wait a few years for it.

Gigantomachia say there are now two scents, along with the visual of two mouths, might indicate some kind of cloning quirk in AFO’s arsenal.

Todoroki snapped Midoriya out of hedgehog mode. Bakugou is hanging upside down still (which honestly can’t be helped atm) so that’s not good for his injuries.

Now I don’t know if this is fanon or canon but I’ve always been of the mind that OFA can’t pass unless the user wills it to pass, which is part of why AFO has never stolen it.

Shigaraki’s life up to this point has been a struggle for control and autonomy. It’s good to see even now he’s not giving up on that.

It’s interesting seeing Nana put her hand on Midoriya’s head in the same place it rested on Shigaraki’s head. I also like that she says Midoriya can’t move yet, like perhaps he can achieve the ability to move and interact with Shigaraki in this heightened plane of existence eventually, which might be the key to help transform their society. Though there are no guarantees that’s the direction the manga will take.

Spoilers for MHA chapter 286:

This is what I believe happened this chapter:

•Bakugo was stabbed through the middle by AFO mind controlling Shigaraki

•Todoroki caught Bakugo and Endeavor before they fell to the ground

•Deku is filled with a deadly rage

•Gigantomachia is headed for Shigaraki but he “smells two masters.”

•Uraraka and some members of Class 1-A are headed in Shigaraki’s direction as well, but Uraraka feels “a disturbance in the force.”

•Todoroki watches as Shigaraki touches Deku, saying he was gonna steal One For All.

•Deku sees a vision of AFO controlling Shigaraki, but Deku can’t move to run away or to help or to do anything at all in that weird vision world.

•Nana Shimura’s ghost comes to help.

Let’s Talk About: MHA Ch 286–287

Firstly we quickly see Izukus inital reaction to Bakugou getting injured—which will have repercussions on his mental state of self worth after this is over —before Shoto rescues him and his father from plumetting to their deaths.

It is then that AFO/Shigaraki insult the action Bakugou just took in taking the hit for Deku by calling him and the actions of Endeavor, Aizawa, Gran Torino, Ryukyu and the others heros here useless and it is this single sentence that sets Izuku off. That word, that single word has been used to describe him for all of his life. The name Deku following him around like a curse used for mental and physical abuse until he made a friend in one Uraraka ‘Uravity’ Ochaco.

So to hear the man who’d inherited the power that his own has fought against for generations use that word, the man who had attacked his friends—-no, his family and almost killed them time and time again, to hear someone like that use that word to insult his allies and family like that...well...his reaction isn’t pretty.

But this time...this time it’s the worst we’ve ever seen him.

We’ve seen glimpses of that repressed anger before, most prominent in his fight with Overhaul over Eri and when he was fighting Gentle to make it in time to see Jirou perform and her hard work come to fruition. Both of those tomes we’ve seen glimpses of what i like to call repressed anger coming to the light shown most prominently in his eyes.

Especially in the Gentle fight, the look he gave Gentle during that brawl was something both impressive and down right terrifying if you truly think about it.

It’s through his eyes that we get to see the beast inside Izuku Midoriya break it’s chains and come to the surface, but this time? This time it’s on a completely different level.

When he launches himself and Shigaraki there aren’t any pupils there to show that he is in some semblance of control, that he’s still in the right state of mind of being a ‘hero’. In this moment when he is unleashes his Shoot Style: OFA and Black Whip I truly believe he is trying to murder the man that was once known as Tenko Shimura.

We don’t know how strong those appendages are, only having seen them be used against All Might to throw him away but from their piercing damage to Bakugou and the strength needed to help throw that man we can assume that they’re pretty good in the power scale.

Not that it matters as we see Izuku charge in and tear them off as he makes his way to Shigaraki with murderous intent and it is here that we get a surprising reveal.

Shigaraki is struggling with the spirit of All For One inside of him, something we get to see more of as we delve into a sort of mindscape connection between the two quirks.

It is here were the chaoter ends with Nana Shimura coming in to aid Izuku in fighting off them bot. In the next chaoter we see much more such as the first OFA Wielder helping out and Nana and Shigaraki talking with the later stating that he hates her as well and Nanas look of what o’d like to say is reluctant acceptance.
