Shadows of Hurt

My own sharp intake of breath woke me up. My hand was not on your hip. Not on that warm dip above your lovely hip bone.

In the time it took me to strech and blink into the waking world I felt the lingering softness and safety turn to an emptiness. Gone from our bed is the place where I was vulnerable and protected while my hand rested there. 

Dreaming is the only time I get to feel the whisper of those moments and waking brings the shadows of  hurt, the reality that you are not here.
