🌊 You are quite shy when it came to talking to people. You found the whole 'socializing thing' a bit overwhelming considering how rough and loud the rest of the people in your academy was.

🌊 You much preferred staying by the shore with a nice book or drawing book to enjoy the sound of the waves with. The ocean breeze and wailing of seagulls never failed to relax you.

🌊 One day, you heard the strange sound of splashing by the tide pools along the more rocks area of the shore. You thought it was a fish or some other animal that got stuck in one of the pools after the tide retreated and got up to help it out.

🌊 But what you saw was no animal, well, half animal. In one of the pools was a man with the lower half of a fish, his scales glistened wondrously as it splashed in the water.

🌊 The man looked at you with wide eyes and froze. You put your hands up to show you meant no harm.

🌊 "Please! Spare me! I just want to go home!"

🌊 "Calm down! I won't hurt you!"

🌊 He shook with fear as your hands drew closer to him.

🌊 You then pulled him up from the pool and carried him to the sea, he stares at you as you gently lowered him unto the water.

🌊 As soon as his tail was submerged in the sea, he swam out of your grasp and went a distance away from you, part of his head peeking out of the water as his red eyes looked at yours.

🌊 "Well...safe travels.." You mutter, wading back to shore, but the merman peeks his mouth out the water and shouts to you.

🌊 "You're not going to ask anything in return?"

🌊 You look back. "Uhm..no, I'm fine, thanks anyway.."

🌊 "Hmm, you know...you can come with me to my home. I'll grant you the power to breathe under water and you can enjoy the treasures I have there. What do you say? It's the least I can do for what you've done for me!"

🌊 "Nah, I'm good. Be safe though, I heard theres pirates that hunt merfolk nowadays..." You continue your way to shore but the merman swims quickly to your side.

🌊 "Don't you want to be rid of those insolent fools you call schoolmates? I can give you a life people only dream of!"

🌊 "I'm not really..interested..."

🌊 "...You're not?"

🌊 "Yeah..."

🌊 "...Oh..uh..ok...wow-um..well, bye I guess..." The man stutters before sinking his head back into the water.

🌊 You sigh, that was some encounter. You doubt you'd run into something like that again...

🌊 Boy howdy you were wrong.

🌊 You'd spot the strange boy again and again, always hiding back behind the rock or piece of driftwood he was watching you from.

🌊 Sometimes you'd also find trinkets and beautiful stones laid on the shore. You never took them though; you didn't want to take something someone probably lost. The merman would grumble to himself every time you ignored his baits.

🌊 You'd also see him again trapped in the pools, feigning sorrow that poor little him got stuck again during another low tide. What ever shall he do?

🌊 Your days would go on like this, the merman desperately trying to lure you into the sea but to no avail due to your shy and polite nature.

🌊 Him basically stalking you turned to him directly talking to you and trying to get you to go with him in the water.

🌊 "Oh dear, I've been stuck at this reef for ages! I just can't get out! Could you help me please? I promise not to drown you!"

🌊 "No thanks, I'm on the last chapter of my book..."

🌊 "My, my, it's so lonely in the ocean, not a playmate in sight, come down with me so we can really get to know each other yeah?"

🌊 "I don't really wanna get my clothes wet..."

🌊 What you thought was a potentially dangerous creature of the sea became a whiny, attention-seeking drama queen.

🌊 Eventually, you'd learn his name is Caspian. He gave up a bit on trying to lure you and settled on making small talk with you.

🌊 Most of your conversations would revolve around your cultures, how you two lived compared to eachother.

🌊 "So those silver things with teeth aren't combs? Interesting...tell me more!"

🌊 He more or less looked up to you because of the knowledge you'd tell him, even though it was all basic things ever human knows, but he wasn't a human so, I guess it's alright.

🌊 He'd try to crawl onto shore to see what you were reading or drawing. You'd have to scoot away from him because he was dripping wet, and you didn't want your paper to get soiled.

🌊 Please read to him! He loves it when you read out loud the books you bring!

🌊 Life seemed pretty content with you having a friend to talk to, one who's not judgmental of your quiet personality.

🌊 That was until one day, you heard laughing and shouting from your usual spot.

🌊 You saw your classmates, waist deep in the water trying to drag Caspian to the shore, the merman snarling and biting the air around him angrily as the bullies degrade and laugh at his attempts to wriggle out of their grasp.

🌊 "Look at this, boys! With this ugly thing we can buy the whole pub if we wanted to!"

🌊 "H-hey! Leave him alone!" You shouted, dropping your things as you ran to help your friend, but one of them punched you with in the face and grabbed you, about to hit you again.

🌊 "What? You're gonna let this siren kill everyone that comes to this beach? God you're dumb! No wonder why you have no friends!"

🌊 He was about to give another blow when you both heard a shrill cry from the ocean.

🌊 The water pooled with crimson as only the splashing of limbs can be seen form the shore, cries and gurgles are heard from the writhing gore. Your classmate rushes into the water to save his friends before the violent splashing stops and the red patch of bloody water extends towards him and around him until you see him get yanked below into the water, a splash of a fish tail verified in your mind that it was Caspian.

🌊 You could feel your heart pounding as you see the siren lift its head from the water, his blood red eyes staring at you again with razor sharp teeth bared.

🌊 "P-please...don't hurt me..I didn't lead them to you I swear!" You cried as he crawled to your shivering form.

🌊 You held your breath as he pulled you in a wet hug, your clothes getting stained by the salty, bloody water.

🌊 "Oh my darling~ I know you would never hurt me~ But we're not safe here anymore..I fear I'll have to take you somewhere safer...somewhere away from those disgusting creatures."

🌊 You couldn't even react before you were pulled into the water forcefully, you kicked and swam all you could to get him to let go of you, but soon enough, your whole body was under the water. The only thing that was left of you were your things by the sand, and bubbles that rose to the surface before stopping.

🌊 "You'll be safe here my love, my most wonderful treasure~"

WEIRD SHARKS THAT'S WHAT IT'S TIME FOR

Pocket Shark

Pocket sharks are named for two small pocket glands appearing behind their pectoral fins. These glands are theorized to be luminous. Pocket sharks look like tiny, tiny sperm whales.

Angular Roughshark

Also called the pig-faced shark or the pig fish, angular roughsharks grow to be about 3 feet 4 in long on average. I personally think they're more bat-faced.

Goblin Shark

Found in the deep sea, goblin sharks are known for being able to extend their jaws like a grabber tool made of teeth. Wikipedia says that these sharks' "flabby bodies" suggest that they are sluggish in nature.

Cookiecutter Shark

The cookiecutter shark only grows to about 20 inches in length, but that doesn't stop it from biting into orcas, great whites, or humans. It suctions onto its meal with its lips and then goes to town. It removes perfect circles of flesh, hence its name.

Wobeggong Shark

Wobeggong refers to twelve species of carpet shark, so-named for their resemblance to a shag rug. They dwell on the bottom of the sea floor and wait for smaller fish to swim nearby.

Swell Shark

Swell sharks like to hide in crevices of algae-covered rocks, waiting for prey to swim by. They are so named not because they're really swell (though they are) but because as a defense mechanism, they can swell up to double their size by swallowing sea water.

Greenland Shark

The Greenland shark has high concentrations of urea in its body. It is theorized to have a lifespan of 250 to 500 years, and it can grow up to 23 feet long. Greenland sharks have been found with moose and reindeer in their stomachs. Because of the shark's toxic levels of urea, its flesh must be fermented or otherwise treated before consumption.

Viper Dogfish

Like the goblin shark, the viper dogfish's jaws can protude from the rest of its head, though its coloring means the viper dogfish looks significantly more Xenomorphish when doing so. This small shark is a member of the lanternshark family, and its underside glows.

Pointy-Nosed Blue Chimaera

Also know as the abyssal ghostshark, this deep sea shark has a venomous spine on its dorsal fin used for defense.

Genie's Dogfish Shark

Genie's dogfish shark is a small species found in the gulf of Mexico and the west Atlantic Ocean. It has real life anime eyes.

Ninja Lanternshark

The ninja lanternshark is a small bioluminescent shark. It is all black except for white markings around its eyes and mouth. It reaches about a foot and a half in length.

Frilled Shark

The frilled shark is sometimes called a living fossil, as it is basically unchanged in the past 80 million years. They are named for their teeth, which each have three points.

Epaulette Shark

Epaulette sharks are named for the large spots behind their pectoral fins. These sharks frequently visit tidal pools and have adapted to long periods of oxygen deprivation by shutting down non-essential neural functions. Epaulette sharks often "walk" with their fins on the sea floor rather than swim.

Horn Shark

Similar to the epaulette sharks, horn sharks like to walk on the sea floor with their fins. However, these sharks have sharp spines to deter predators.

This Ridiculousness

A prehistoric shark, helicoprion lived 20 million years ago and was apparently part buzzsaw. A fossil unearthed in Idaho in 2014 showed that these sharks had no teeth in their upper jaw, and a whorl of teeth in their lower jaw. It's a shame Junji Ito wasn't introduced to this shark during the writing of Uzumaki.

Waterfalls! These gorgeous, powerful features of nature have been oddly lacking in my past lists, I think in part because their danger has always seemed more “obvious” to me. But doing the research for this list has reawakened my phobia of the water. Some of the later entries (numbers 9 and 10 especially) brought back anxieties that I thought I had gotten over long ago, but it was kind of thrilling. Like watching a particularly scary horror movie. Let’s get into it!

1. Underwater Waterfall, Mauritius

No, it’s not really a waterfall. It’s just an optical illusion caused by sand falling off the island’s slope down into the deeper water below. But it looks cool and scary, and the drop-off is 2.5 miles deep so that’s pretty impressive and I think it deserves at least a mention.

2. Blood Falls, Antarctica

There’s nothing particularly dangerous about this one, it just looks incredibly creepy. Obviously, it’s not actually blood, it’s just water that’s very rich in iron. But the really fascinating part of this waterfall is that its source seems to be a subglacial lake that contains a unique microbial ecosystem which has been isolated for two million years! These microbes are like nothing else we’ve ever observed in nature before. They live in an incredibly cold and extremely saline lake, and metabolize sulfur and iron ions with no oxygen present. They are being used as a model to study what life on ice-covered alien planets could be like.

3. Khone Falls, Laos

This waterfall is not nearly as famous as some of the others on this list, which is surprising because it’s the widest waterfall in the world, with an average width of six miles! Although not particularly tall, it is the second most powerful waterfall in the world, more than double the power of Niagara Falls! The Khone falls divide the Upper and Lower Mekong river, making travel by boat between the north and south impossible. What makes it kind of unsettling to me is that during the rainy seasons the falls are basically swallowed up by the river, turning them from a spectacular waterfall to a series of massive rapids.

4. Huntington Gorge, Vermont

When water levels are low, this river is a popular and scenic swimming spot, and the canyon has an almost otherworldly quality with its unique bends and overhangs. Unfortunately, these very features are what makes it so dangerous. Much like the infamous Strid, the gorge is full of holes, steep drop-offs, and powerful currents hidden beneath the water, which can suck people in and trap them against the cliff walls. Over fifty people have died here since the 1950s, and many more have been injured. With proper precautions, one can safely explore the gorge and swim in the river, but don’t forget that this water has swallowed up many people before you.

5. Victoria Falls, Zambia

I’m sure most of you already know about Mosi-oa-Tunya, more widely called Victoria Falls, as the largest waterfall in the world. Formed as the Zambezi river pours into a series of massive gorges, this curtain of water spans nearly a mile and falls 300 feet with such force that columns of rising spray can be seen for miles around. Despite this, the pools around the lip of the falls can be relatively tame, and locals have fished while balancing on the edge of the cliff for generations. The safest and most famous of these fishing holes is the Devils Pool, which allows you to literally swim right up to the edge of the world’s biggest waterfall. The pool is actually very safe when the correct precautions are taken, and I can only find one death attributed to the pool specifically, when a tour guide in 2009 fell while trying to help a man who had slipped and was dangling off the edge (and, honestly, I was expecting a lot more deaths given the amount of clickbait articles advertising it as the most deadly swimming hole in the world). Although that was the only death from the Devils Pool, there have been many other deaths at Victoria Falls, mostly tourists who underestimate the power of the river or get too close to the edge. So if you ever visit this spectacular waterfall, please observe it from a safe distance and follow all the rules.

6. Huka Falls, New Zealand

This is not a traditional waterfall, but rather a series of small waterfalls along a narrow stretch of the Waikato river, creating an incredibly turbulent chasm that ends in a whirlpool. The 300-foot wide river is funneled into a 50-foot wide stream, causing a torrent of water that flows at a rate of 58,000 gallons per second. Obviously, this is not an area that you should get in the water, but not everyone takes that advice. There have been multiple deaths at this waterfall, and a few narrow escapes, including two swimmers who, incredibly, survived after trying to raft down the falls on pool toys. Please, for the love of god, don’t do that.

7. Niagara Falls, US/Canada

These falls are the only place on this list that I’ve visited, and I can tell you they are certainly an incredible sight, but also rather intimidating due to their sheer size and power. These three massive waterfalls are fed by the Great Lakes and, combined, have nearly 700,000 gallons of water thundering down every second. There is also a permanent whirlpool in the river that has existed for over 4,000 years and reaches depths of 125 feet! Besides being huge and awe-inspiring, these waterfalls are known for their appeal to daredevils who have gone over the edge in barrels or, in one case, a giant rubber ball. But these famous success stories are punctuated with tragedy. Roughly 20-30 people die at Niagara Falls every year. Most of these, sadly, are suicides, but others are failed attempts to replicate the successful daredevils of the past, and others are accidental. An estimated 5,000 bodies were recovered at the bottom of the falls between 1850 and 2011.

8. Murchison Falls, Uganda

Also known as Kabalega Falls, this is the worlds most powerful waterfall. Formed as the Nile River flows from Lake Kyoga to Lake Albert, this waterfall is so strong it literally causes the ground to shake around it. Here, the Nile is constricted from a river nearly 400 ft wide to a passage only 20 ft wide, creating an incredibly turbulent and violent tunnel of water that tears its way into the pool below at 79,000 gallons per second. And this is no ordinary pool. Waiting below the falls is the highest concentration of large crocodiles observed anywhere in the world, waiting for any dead or stunned animals caught in the falls to wash into their lair. Although the waterfall and surrounding park are now a beautiful tourist attraction and wildlife refuge, the history of the falls includes tales of human and animal sacrifices, thrown in alive to appease the gods that some believed resided beneath the raging waters.

9. Bath Fountain, Jamaica

This is just a random little waterfall along a hiking trail, but the video triggered some intense bathophobia in me for the first time in a while. Like, I was scared to get in the shower after watching this. Proceed with caution:

10. Kipu Falls, Hawaii

This one scares me because, despite my research, I can’t actually figure out what the hell is happening here. Multiple people have died here; all tourists, all drownings, all of seemingly very unclear causes. Kipu Falls is a beautiful and popular swimming spot, and locals frequently dive off the top of the falls with seemingly no danger. However, five deaths over the course of five years from 2006-2011 challenged its reputation of being a safe swimming hole. All the articles I could find seem to repeat the same information; there is no current in the pool and the waterfalls are not especially powerful. Despite these established facts, all five deaths were the same. Someone jumped in, surfaced, and then were dragged back down to the bottom of the pool and held there until they died. This has resulted in a lot of speculation, including everything from a hidden whirlpool current to evil spirits. I’m just. Really unsettled by the lack of information on this one. Every article I found was published in 2011 and I couldn’t find any updates, which hopefully means people aren’t still dying here, but… what the fuck???? Was going on????? Sorry guys this one might not be as dangerous as some of the others but it freaks me out a lot so it’s getting a higher rating. I want to know what’s going on but I’m sure not going to investigate it myself.

Since he used to be a working android and didn't have a lot free will while not being a deviant, Connor liked going out with you a lot.

He was never interested in fish, but when you mentioned going to the aquarium he was a bit curious.

"Hm, the aquarium? Yeah, I'd like to go." He said as he looked at you with attentiveness in his eyes.

You were excited to point out each and every fish to him, although you were a bit worried Connor would be able to just- search the internet and get to know everything about them from the start.

He was a grade A android and detective after all.

You hoped he wouldn't get bored of you rambling about it.

As you arrived to the fancy building, Connor took notice of the big glass tunnel.

He didn't comment anything, but you could see that he looked at the fish that swam above his head with curiosity

"That's a nurse shark." You pointed out with a slightly excited smile as you noticed the creature swim behind the glass. Connor looked the way you pointed, raising his brow with calm interest. "Ginglymostoma cirratum. The elasmobranch fish in the family Ginglymostomatidae." He came up with the info on the spot. He knew you were interested in the topic, so he wanted to impress and relate to you. You chuckled softly at his "knowledge" as you lightly punched him in the shoulder. "Hey- I'm supposed to be the fish expert here." You lightheartedly pointed out. "Right. Of course, tell me more then. I'd love to listen." He quickly let you take the scene. You smiled at his mindfulness. "This one's a pilchard. But more commonly known as, well, sardine. The same one you can buy at the market." You came up with more information as you observed Connor listening to you diligently. "It's interesting to actually see them swim in their natural habitat. At least, as natural as you can get." He mentioned lightheartedly. "Yeah. Like, people eat those." You said playfully, watching him smile at your comment.

Time went by quick as you pointed out a lot of fancy and regular fish that appeared near you, excited with each new one that showed on your radar.

Connor loved listening to you express yourself about the thing you were passionate about.

You previously had some worries about him getting bored while you were there, but he never shown a sign of annoyance.

But it couldn't be further from the truth, he was looking at you with never ending curiosity.

Time came for you to visit the touchpool.

"Can you actually touch the fish?" Connor looked at the pool, raising his brow calmly. You chuckled slightly. "Yes. That's what it's for. Go on. Touch the starfish." Connor looked at the water one more time before gently placing his hand inside. You could see the flow of emotions on his face as the invertebrate made contact with his cyberskin. It showed curiosity, then confusion, then a bit of- disgust? He took his hand out slowly, but you could see a bit of aversion in his movement. "Did you not like it?" You asked with a silly smile on your face. "It was- interesting. But i'd rather not touch it again." He commented with fake professionalism, trying to hide his distaste towards the feeling. It made you giggle. "Really? That bad? Aren't you used to touching dead bodies and stuff?" You asked amused. "I am. But that's different. Somehow, this creature seems to- somehow get me. In a bad way." He explained. The fact that Connor, the android who was used to far much worse things than you could survive through, was disgusted by the little starfish made you giggle. "Alright, you don't gotta touch it. But I'll tell you some interesting facts about it instead." You suggested, smiling at him. "Yeah, that sounds good." The corners of his lips turned up as he reciprocated the calm smile.

Connor spent rest of the day with you talking his ear off, but he didn't mind in the slightest, and even asked you for elaboration and more facts on some fish he found interesting with.

He reminisces the trip with you there very fondly, although he gets a bit annoyed when you sometimes tease him about the starfish incident.

In a lighthearted way of course.

【 Ralph 】

He was a bit hesitant to go somewhere where there's a lot of people at first.

His fear of humans still persisted, but it was greatly lessened when he got you in your life.

Although he's still shy and a bit anxious in public.

Nonetheless, when you told him what an aquarium is, he was a bit curious.

You reassured him that if anything happens, you will leave.

He nodded a bit unsure, but he trusted you'd make the right call, so he agreed.

He was very fidgety and anxious at first, but his demeanor changed once he saw the colorful creatures.

Ralph was never in a place with so many different kinds of fish before!

He was probably even more excited than you when he got into the zone.

You tried to pick the rooms with less or zero people around so Ralph would feel more comfortable.

But after he got mesmerized by the fishies, his fear was kinda skimmed over.

He did get scared by a moray eel though.

"Ralph does not like that fish!" He pointed out, upset at the scary monster behind the glass. You laughed softly. "It's a moray eel." "Ralph does not like moray eels." He repeated with a frown, although he was still slightly curious about it. In like a car-crash type of way. You looked around the tank, wanting to find some "nicer" fish to show him. "How about this one?" You pointed out at the sea horse. He looked at it with interest, tilting his head a little, which you thought was very adorable. "Hm... Ralph likes this one better." He said with conviction with made you chuckle slightly. "The males actually carry the eggs." You came up with a random trivia about them. It was actually a decently known fact about them, but Ralph being Ralph obviously didn't know it. "Huh?" He tilted his head once more. "It's to ensure their survival. Both mom and dad work together." You pointed out some more nerdy facts with a smile as you observed his reaction. "Hm... Ralph thinks the seahorses are nice." He came up to the glass, putting his hands on it to get a better view. "And interesting!"

After he got a bit more comfortable being t the aquarium, he would run around the place, following the fishes that swam above his head in the tunnel and ask you about them.

"What's that fish called? And that? And those small ones? Oh, what about that big one!" He pointed out lots of different types, making you a bit lost with answering as his questions were so quickly coming.

He's the type to just- poke the glass.

He's curious, you can't blame him.

He'll stop if you tell him to, though.

If there's a petting pool he must see it.

Tell him how to interact with it beforehand though, as he might get a bit- rough with his touches.

"Ralph put that stingray down!" You were horrified when you noticed him holding the poor creature by the tail. He flinched and dropped it back into the water. "Ralph is sorry- Ralph was just curious-" He said apologetically, putting hands closer to his chest in a nervous manner. "It's- It's okay Ralph, you can try just- petting it. Like that." You reached out your hand to touch the stingray that was swimming by. Ralph looked at you and tried to do the same. "O-okay, Ralph will try." He giggled when his sensors felt the skin of the animal brush against his fingers.

You didn't know what to expect at the aquarium, whether Ralph would like it at all, but you were positively surprised when he wanted to stick around more, even after the workers told you it's gonna close soon.

Overall, he was very excited, and wouldn't mind going there again.

✧ curious ✧ .9k, g

you raise your head, eyes scanning along the bank on the opposite side. all you can see is a pair of beady eyes, and long pale fingers pressed onto a large tree branch that's resting on some rocks.

pairing: felix x gn!reader genre: fluff, magical/fairy!au warnings/other: felix is a water nymph/reader is human, it's like 2am and i just thought of this. it's self indulgent pls enjoy

little ripples bounce around the small pebbles rolling in the water, a fish or two swim past, weaving around the little plants growing at the bottom of the lake. it's not too deep, maybe just above your ankles.

a group of small blue fish enter your eyes as you venture further down the bank, pretty pearlescent green scales shining in the late night of the evening sun, their tails so small they'd be no bigger than your iris. gently, you press your hand into the water, trying your hardest not to disturb the fish. when you splay your fingers, the mud beneath is slightly disturbed, causing a few of the dish to swim away.

but one of the fish stays, slowly dancing in and out of your fingers. it stops on top of your hand, as if resting it's weary body from swimming all day. you decide not to disturb it and just enjoy what nature has gifted you.

further along, the water is disturbed, it somewhat sounds like a splash. you raise your gaze, eyes scanning along the bank on the opposite side. all you can see is a pair of beady eyes, and long pale fingers pressed onto a large tree branch that's resting on some rocks.

the boy doesn't blink, just stares back at you as he seems to be assessing what you're doing. you raise your neck, slightly turning your head to the side as if signalling you're curious about him too. he copies your actions, head turning the same direction as yours. one more time, you flop your head to the other side and he follows.

you bounce your head back and forth and he copies. this goes on for about ten seconds, but you stop as you begin to feel dizzy.

"ow." you say to yourself, raising your hand from the water to rub your temple. the boy across the water smiles, resting his chin on the branch.

within a split second, he jumps on top the fallen tree, legs flopping in front of himself as he lets them dangle. his feet are slightly webbed, and his hands too. when he turns his head to the side again, almost comically, a long pointy ear bounces out from his blonde hair, little silver trinkets dangling, maybe some small gems decorating his ear. you're not too sure, he's not close enough for you to see.

the boy smiles at you again as he wiggles his legs, his brown cotton shorts and shirt almost falling off of him. he's small, but not too short from what you can see.

ah, a water nymph, you realise. you've never seen one before. not this close. you realised you've ever actually heard one speak.

the boy nods to the river a few times, pointing to something. you follow his gesture. there's a another school of blue fish, seemingly gravitating towards him.

"you... want me to watch?" you ask, slowly dipping your bare feet into the water. he returns with an eager nod, pointing again at the fish.

the same group of small fish you saw prior look as if they're swimming towards him. they seem to happily oblige as he wiggles his fingers back and forth, the school of fish pooling at the other side of the bank. he looks up at you with a big grin on his face, pointy fangs pressing into his bottom lip.

"that's amazing!" you say in disbelief, trying your hardest not to disturb them.

slowly, you edge a bit forwards, now only about two metres away from him and the fish.

the nymph makes a cupping motion with both of his hands, instructing you to do as such.

"like this?" you ask, placing your hands together. he nods excitedly, gesturing for you to pick them up.

placing your cupped hands into the water, you wait for a moment. the nymph rubs two of his fingers together, his tongue sticking out to the side underneath one of his fangs. within a few moments, one of the fish swims into the palm of your hand and stills.

you gasp, trying your hardest not to move. but the boy doesn't mind, he seems to be enjoying your fascination with what he's doing.

"can i... lift it?" you ask, eyes feeling like they're going to pop out of your skull. the boy nods, jumping down from the branch to be at your level. he steps forwards and bends down, his soft webbed hands cupping your own. softly, he helps you raise them, the small fish swimming in little circles in the tiny pool you've made with your palms.

when you look up at the boy, he just smiles, those little fangs appearing again.

"it's so... pretty." you smile, watching the fish swim around. the nymph watches you intently, seemingly curious about your fascination with that he's doing.

"i wonder how they get so blue-"

"felix!" the nymph blurts out, pressing his face a bit too close to yours. you raise your brows turn to face him. he's no more than ten centimetres away.

he pushes his nose against yours, and pulls back. those big dark eyes wide and staring into your own, silly grin showing. "i'm felix."

Hi everyone, it’s been a really long time since I’ve shared a build! I’m kicking you off with a delightfully summery build - a swimming hole!

It includes a picnicking area, towels for sunbathing, several spots to fish in, a pool and diving rock, and a rudimentary outhouse for when nature calls. Your historical sims will thank you for the opportunity to strip off those heavy dresses and suits and don their slightly less heavy bathing costumes.

Now that I’ve gotten my new computer working and all my sims stuff set up, I’ve been looking around at the CC light save file I’ve been working on. It’s actually much closer to being finished than I realized, so I’m really hoping to have that finished for everyone soonish.

However, I realized, why should I make everyone wait for some of the builds that are finished? So ta-da, a swimming hole for everyone.

I wanted this build to feel wildish, but be still useable by your sims. Its kind of inspired by the lake of shining waters in Anne of Green Gables (as many of my builds are inspired by Anne of Green Gables...)

Everything is functional, sims can walk over the bridge, swim in the pool, fish from the pond, and fish from the sign at the back creek part. There’s a small outhouse with a toilet. Pool builds require a sink and shower, but I didn’t feel like those were necessary, so they’re sized down and hidden under the pump. You may be able to get your sim to use them by clicking to fulfill their hygiene need, but I have no idea if that’s the case.

The bridge is fully functional, but it is slightly finagled, so to see the sims on it, you need to make sure you have your lot set to the second floor. I do this anyway so the little building looks good, but if you aren’t seeing them walk across it, that may be why.

I have all the packs and tend to use them without regard, but I think this one probably mostly just requires get to work, cats and dogs, seasons, and cottage living (for the water mill).

I hope that you all really enjoy this lot, its a bit different than what I’ve done in the past, but I am so excited about. As always, if you take pictures with it, tag me! I love seeing them and I usually reblog them.

Seasons of Love Challenge

If you want a mini-challenge that centers on romance, story, and gameplay, then this might be the perfect challenge for you! I introduce to you, the Seasons of Love Challenge! Pair up or create four pairs and be the matchmaker and the writer of their destiny. Get indulged with their story and help them find love by the end of the season!

For each season, we have different couple that may or may not fall in love before the season ends. I recommend that you edit the in-game season length, it can be up to 7, 12, 21 or 25 days per season, depending to you. This challenge can either be rotational or generational, it’s completely up to you.

Feel free to remove and add some more activities to the following. These are not really rules, but more like guides or checklist that you can do so that you won’t run out of ideas to do for each round, and hopefully, help progress the relationship of the each pair.

For those who prefer slow-burn romance (like me!) there’s a Slowburn Romance Edition by the end with some set of rules, be sure to check that out! This is supposedly a personal challenge for my game, but I thought it would be nice to share it with the community. SUMMER

trope: enemies to lovers

backstory:

- sim A is demoted from her work because of her hotheaded nature, and was assigned in this town where her grandparents/(or) sister live. She absolutely hates that, she wants to go up the ladder and build her name, but how can she do that now that she's demoted and stuck in this town?

- sim B is carefree and enigmatic, living his life to the fullest. He used to get sick a lot when he was a child and now that he's a teen and rarely gets sick anymore, he wants to break free from those restrictions and do the things he hasn't done in his childhood.

how things started:

~ Just few days before his birthday, sim B is feeling rebellious and wants to spend the best of his teenage days, even if that means breaking the curfew. So, he stayed out late with his friends to party and even went to the beach and lit some fireworks just before he go home. But, on his way home, the police patrol saw him! He knew he's so screwed, but what can he do? He plead with the cop, which happens to be Sim A, but she don't take any of his bullshit. Which eventually leads to some misunderstanding, fight and disliking each other. Guess the last of his teenage day is remarkable afterall, especially if you're being escorted back to your house in police car.

~ If things aren't already worst as they are, he, unfortunately, bumped with the same cop again when she joined the surfing/scuba diving club. Oh well, guess they have to see each other a lot now. Will this be the perfect summer as he imagined, or will it be totally ruined because of that one hot-headed cop?

backstory:

~ Sim A and Sim B where inseparable when they're kids. They spent afternoons playing video games, playing with their toys and painting together. But things changed when they entered High School. Sim B moved to a different part of town and became more distant as she found new circle of friends, and eventually, had a boyfriend. She thought it was forever! Only to find out that she's pregnant with someone who totally, totally dislikes children. So, she runaway from home and found herself back to the small apartment where she was raised, back to where sim A lives just next door.

~ Sim A was surprise to see Sim B again. He always wanted to make up and be friends with her again, but he always felt shy and small when he sees her with her new set of friend and popular boyfriend. Now that she's back, will he finally have the courage to talk to her again?

~ Moreover, can Sim B raised this child alone? And will she find comfort again with the boy next door?

But things took a drastic change when Sim B suddenly disappeared when his father died, leaving him to live with his mother in France, leaving sim B behind. Sim B never expected this, she never expected to bear a child with Sim A as well. She can't seem to find him anymore, but still, she decided that she will raise this child.

~ Years later, Sim B discovered that their child was sick and only had a few months left. Pile with grief, the kid is constantly looking for his/her father as well. Sim B doesn't want to let her child rest without seeing his/her father. So, again, she tried to look for him. And she found him! Turns out that he's now a rockstar in France, with a name and career. After knowing all of this, he quickly booked the ticket back to their town.

~ Will him coming back after years of disappearance mend their broken hearts and finally build the family they've dreamed? Or will they stay together just for the sake of their dying child?

~ The death of her mother brings Sim B so much grief. Now that she’s just living on her own, she decides to open again their old bakery and let travelers rent her place. She’s a loner, more now that her mother, her only bestfriend died. Now she just spends her time baking and selling and knitting to ease her mind, will this new traveler who stays with her bring some color in her dull life?

the sea is a terrible place (or: here's some scary natural phenomena found in the sea of Siren)

The false reflection, mostly encountered by deep-diving phocids. This phenomenon occurs when ultra dense high saline water gathers in underwater brine pools on the sea floor. It appears reflective, like a mirror. Down in the deep, the only way you can see at all is to take some form of luminescence with you, which obscures the pool and shows you nothing but another phocid below, holding a light source. It's common for pelagic people to be unfamiliar with their own facial markings and reflection. They mistake the reflection as another phocid, or a ghostly apparition, and reach out. But the salinity of the brine pool is such that even touching it can scald the skin, especially as all mammals on siren are adapted to low salt conditions and require far far less salt than unaltered humans.

The abyss, of course. Most of the sea of Siren is not as deep on average as the sea on Earth. But there are cracks and trenches in the sea floor that go down, and down, and down... they are poorly explored (though the first settlers did send drones down) and sites of myth and legend for swimmers. The abyss is not usually dangerous, since it's easy to just not go down there, but sometimes the cracks seem to inhale and exhale - natural flows of groundwater, or attempts to fill a vacuum caused by a different crack releasing gas. So swimming over certain cracks might result in you being dragged down unexpectedly into the anoxic zone near the sea floor in the region... or it might result in you being unexpectedly shot up. These events are incredibly rare and usually passed off as tall tales, some selkie who claims to have flown due to being propelled into the sky

The snowstorm... an event that occurs when the sediment is agitated enough to completely white out the water. If the particles are the right size, echolocation clicks bounce back immediately, making sight and echo useless. Phocids and selkies trapped in the snowstorm could lose situational awareness and forget which way is up very easily, and the instant bounce-back of echo clicks is deeply unpleasant, giving the illusion of being 1 inch from swimming straight into a solid wall.

Shriekers. This is an issue where ice caps, glaciers etc meet the water. The ice cracks and breaks, and to sensitive phocid and selkie ears it's an unbearable shriek that can render them disoriented and deaf at long range, and break eardrums at close range. Around the ice wall, there's an almost constant background noise of screaming.

The false sky. A phenomenon that occurs when a swimmer loses situational awareness, and ends up diving deeper and deeper thinking that they're about to come up for air. The reduced gravity of siren means that it's more difficult under the water to feel gravity, resulting in a more weightless sensation than on Earth. Occasionally, a natural biolumescence in deep water may produce an illusion of the sky viewed through the turbid water, making the disoriented swimmers even more certain that they are travelling up, when really they are diving. In Spiral mythos this is treated as a specific type of mania.

The wanderer.. it looks like a phocid swimming in the distance. You hail them, click at them, wave your lantern, but they don't respond. If you get closer, they'll flee. This is a really common story among nearly all pelagic people worldwide, and what they are seeing are the vanishingly rare aquatic zeta, those who did not adapt to becoming terrestrial and became extremely solitary, so they were not able to regain language due to not having complex cultures and societies anymore. They resemble smaller, hairy phocids and are considered a type of (for lack of a better word?) fairy or trickster spirit in Spiral culture, a false friend leading you astray.

The flesh cloud. This is a mass of deceased scalefish, the hagfish-like animals which make up many of the fish shoals on Siren. If they enter an anoxic zone unexpectedly (if chased, pushed by currents, or just unlucky) they can die in large numbers, forming a tangled, decaying mass that drifts through the seas. These are heralds of rot and disease and the water around them is filthy and unclean, an infection risk for any swimmer with an open cut. Sometimes large nets are set up to catch and redirect them.

Sharp sand. Some substrate is made of silica and appears glittery, like fairy dust. When water mixes, these can form plumes which are hundreds of feet tall. They're not dangerous in and of themselves, but you had better make sure you close your eyes around it, no matter how pretty the dancing glitter might be. A common cause of corneal ulceration and abrasion.

Cherta's Tide. This is a big one. Tides are slow and rare most of the time, mixing the water and enabling life to flourish. But every so often, there are two different tides that come round, which can be predicted based on which moon is most prominent in the sky for the duration. Ishmael's Tide is a high water apocalyptic event, but there are many monitoring stations and contingencies to avoid it. Cherta's Tide (similar to a neap tide) is far more unpredictable and occurs irregularly, as the moon Cherta is smaller, darker, and harder to see. This tide is a low-water event. Vast stretches of the sea floor are laid bare and the underwater ridges suddenly become towering cliffs and barriers for people who can't fly. This can last for weeks at a time, and without the water of course most animal populations who can't hide in substrate take a huge hit. It can happen fast enough to strand a swimmer at the top of a ridge, nothing but air below all the way to what was once the sea floor, and they might be stranded, unreachable, and without food or water for a fatal period of time.

They are smoking up a storm but not drinking like fish on this lovely summer's day in Spain! The fish-like activities are centered around the swimming pool. When teenage girls start smoking cigarettes on a regular basis, their adults -- parents or older siblings who have been role models for the newbies' emerging smoking styles and habits -- stress the importance of handling their cigarettes as would an adult and behaving in a mature fashion with the habit ostensibly reserved for adults. Well! The action begins with two cigarettes among the four of them, three of whom have not left their teen years so many years ago! And there's no panic. How mature -- how impressive! Not sure when the reinforcements came in, the additional packs of smokes, but these BHYSWs (Beautiful Hot, Young Smoking Women) met the challenge and dispensed with potential crisis with aplomb and grace. So they were able to focus on having a good time, drinking some glasses of wine, meeting new smoking friends. Hence, the title of this outstanding video, 'Smoking Friends' with remarkable and natural smoking action by all four of them!

. . . Fran, the Smoking Sweeties's experienced, creative and just sensational web-master/web producer is uncanny in his ability to find the right meshing of personalities for his related series. He's done it again, and with flair. What insight! How instinctive/intuitive! This "Smoking Friends" preview clip highlights some outstanding talking exhales, wonderful examples of the rarely seen "residual" exhales, superb light-ups, hard core dragging and some top-notch, powerful exhales. They are consistent by featuring similar attributes in style and flavor, with alike action from these lovely Spanish BSWs (Beautiful Smoking Women), cousins of BHYSWs. The titles of the 13 videos in the same SSW genre, with the addition of Smoking Friends, now includes: Dance Class Meetup with 4 Smokers, 3 Smoking Girlfriends - Part 1, 3 Beginners Playing Pool, Smoking Ladies Night, Lucy and Ainhoa: The Chimney Girls, 3 Chimneys Talk about Smoking, 5 Chimneys in the Wine Cellar, 4 Chimneys in the Wine Cellar, 3 Chimneys in the Wine Cellar, 4 Heavy Smoking Girls Playing Cards, 4 Heavy Smoking Girls and, of course, 3 Chimneys Playing Cards.

The observation/critique that must be stated here -- nothing is perfect, our SF aficionado friends -- is that two of the four participants in this video are unnamed. They are unknown to us and without identification. This is what we know: Nerea has returned from Smoking Ladies Party, wearing the skimpy bikini with the brown top. Nerea, whose French inhales were devastating in her debut, is no rival of Busty Deelite! Noemi is wearing the blue/aqua two piece bathing suit and has dark hair. Her debut post is featured within this Smoking Friends post. All of this leaves two pool partiers without ID: The BHYSW with dark hair, pulled back in a clip in some scenes, wearing a sheer top with a colorful print; and the other with a print bathing suit top and dark solid color bottom with medium length hair dangling is some scenes and pulled up in others. Would like to learn their names and see them again, for this was their debuts with SSW.

From the website administrators' narrative on the Smoking Sweeties post of Smoking Friends, which features five scenes:

"The first meeting happens in the pool during a hot summer day, everyone hasn't smoked for an hour and there are only two cigarettes so they pass it to each other while they talk about how they started smoking. They all started smoking regularly at the age of 14 – Noemi started even earlier – and briefly explain their story of how it happened."

The description -- somehow not naming the other two BHYSWs aside from Nerea and Noemi, who are returning for the second videos by each -- concludes with the following:

"Throughout the video, the talking exhales with residual smoke stand out. In some conversations they talk about their first cigarette of the day, how they do it at work to smoke, and how their mothers detected how they smoked by smelling their hands. Interestingly, the 4 girls are daughters of smoking mothers, from whom they stole their cigarettes."

Now an excerpt from one of the 10 reviews posted to SSW, within the first four days of "Smoking Friends" publication on September 2, 2023:

✶ miles morales :

brings his sketchbook with him and draws all of your favorite sea animals, he probably, accidentally, dropped a pencil into one of the shorter tanks. he loves listening to your rambles about the different sea animals there. he reads the descriptions of each sea creature so he can talk about them with you.

holds your hand as you look at the different fishes swimming around, but gets distracted and just admires you instead. he will buy you matching things from the gift shop like matching bracelets or pins & surprises you after when you two go home with matching shark onesies and lots of cuddles.

✶ gwen stacy :

she'll bring her camera with her so she can take candid photos of your beautiful smile as you look at the different sea creatures. she loves the dark blue lighting and the quiet atmosphere of aquariums, she loves holding your hand in comfortable silence as you two watch the different sea creatures swim around.

you two will sit down for hours, pointing at the different fishies & saying "that ones us!" or "that one is literally you".

she 100% had a sea animal phase, specifically a shark phase. once you accidentally let go of her hand for a second and completely lost her for a good 20 minutes, only to find her in the shark exihibit. at the end of the day she'll buy you matching shark hats!!

✶ pavitr prabhakar :

wears a "i love sea animals" shirt and fish pj pants to the aquarium. same like gwen, he deifintely had a sea animal phase at some point in his life, more specifically a stingray phase. you two will ramble about your favorite sea animals while eating the fish shaped pizza in the food court. he brings his digicam to the aquarium so he can take videos of the turtles and fishes swimming, and you of course! he loves catching your natural laugh or smile on camera.

loves the touch pool, almost pushed a kid because they were in his way. loves telling you random facts about his favorite sea animals, he'll say things like "did you know stringrays are born fully developed?" with a :D face — "that's really cool, pav." you smile.

✶ hobie brown :

probably banned from most aquariums because he tried swimming in most of them.. but after a few tries you finally found one where he isn't banned! yet.

he loves marine life as much as you do, but he mostly does the listening as you ramble on different topics, besides he loves listening to your voice. he'll follow you around the aquarium, his hand holding your waist. as you watch the jellyfishes swim around, he's watching you, he's admiring how the blue light captures your beauty so perfectly, he's admiring how perfect your hair and self is.

"do you see that one?" you point, eyes focused on the jellyfishes. "yeah, i see it darling." he replies, his heart eyes still looking at you.

A Mata-Fine Mata Mata turtle

A resident of the Amazon and Orinoco river basins, the mata mata (Chelus fimbriatus) is a species of freshwater turtle found in streams, pools, and wetlands throughout northern South America, from Venezuela to Brazil, as well as the island of Trinidad. This species is almost entirely aquatic, and excursions on land are extremely rare. However, they are not well adapted for swimming in open water, and are thus most commonly seen in shallow bodies of water with soft, muddy bottoms.

C. fimbriatus has a unique appearance among turtle species. The carapace-- the part of the shell that covers the back--it has three ridges running down its length and is often covered in algae, and so resembles tree bark. The head is similarly shaped to resemble leaf litter; it’s triangular, and the fringes around the cheeks and mouth break up the outline. The mata mata’s nose is long and snorkel-like, allowing it to remain just under the surface. Despite its unobtrusive looks, this species is actually quite large; mata mata can grow up to 45 cm (1.5 ft) long and weigh up to 17.2 kg (38 lbs).

Because of its unique body shape and camouflage, the mata mata is well suited to a sedentary life, and has few natural predators. It has extremely poor eyesight, though it does share an adaptation with other nocturnal reptiles that allows the eyes to reflect low levels of light. To compensate, the mata mata relies on its hearing, amplified by a large tympanium on either side of the head, and on the barbels lining its jaw. In addition to being an excellent costume, these barbels allow C. fimbriatus to sense vibrations in the water. The mata mata spends most of its time submurged or buried under the mud, waiting for potential prey like fish, worms, crustaceans, and insects to swim by. When they’re close enough, the mata mata opens its jaws and sucks its target in whole. Individuals have also been recorded herding schools of fish into confined areas before feeding.

The only time the mata mata emerges from the water is to reproduce. Individuals are solitary until September or October, when they begin to seek out mates. When a male encounters a female, he approaches while opening and closing his mouth, extending his limbs, and moving the flaps on the side of his head. If the female is impressed, she allows him to mount. Afterwards, she hauls herself out onto the nearby bank and builds a rudimentary nest from the forest litter. Steve Harrington x fem!reader [1.7k] prompt: “Take my jacket, it’s cold.” Not quite enemies to something, late night walks, clothes sharing.

“Take my jacket,” you turned, arms crossed, eyes wary as you looked at the boy beside you. “It’s cold,” he insisted, pushing the soft denim into your hands.

No matter how bad you expected your night to go, you didn’t anticipate Steve Harrington to be walking you home.

The Spring Fling at the Hawkins country club was something your parents never missed and every year, they insisted on bringing you with them, showing you off to the highest members of society. The mayor, Doctor Stewart and his very single son, the Parsons - didn’t you know, they just bought a yacht?

It was the same every time but as you got older, your patience wore a little thinner and by nine o’clock, you’d ate as much as you could of your dinner, insisting that you were twenty years old now, so yes, you were certain you didn’t like fucking crab cakes.

The band had started playing, your parents leaving you at the table so they could mingle with the other guests and by the time you’d found a pay phone in the lobby, the only number you could remember was Steve fucking Harrington’s.

It wasn’t like you hated the boy, no. But you weren’t exactly friends either. The most you had in common was the fact that you seemed to share babysitting duties for Max and the Sinclairs, plus the fact that you both attended the same school.

You always seemed to collide on your worst days, when one of you was running late, when Dustin wanted a ride to the arcade, When Will and Mike just had to tell you about the new movie they’d seen. So you were usually both frazzled, missing your first hour at work and with no time for small talk.

You’d bump into Steve at the kids D&D meetings, Max insisting you had to watch the end of Will’s campaign but Steve would be there too and somehow, you both would end up bickering over Erica’s sugar intake or the fact that El wanted to join the swim team.

“I don’t think putting El in a giant tank of water would be good for her, Harrington, talk about bad connotations?”

“What’re you talkin’ about, it’s a pool! She floats like a fish, she'll be fine!”

Dustin always laughed, Max always smirked and Robin said it was repressed sexual tension.

Whatever it was, it wasn’t supposed to be this.

He’d sounded a little surprised when he answered your call but covered it up with something snarky and teasing, a comment that went a little like, “I always knew you’d end up needing me late at night, princess.”

You thought it was the end of the call when he told you his car was in the garage, a punctured tire that was getting fixed. But then he told you to wait where you were, sitting in the Club lobby, hands pulling nervously at the hem of your dress, and he’d come get you anyway.

He’d opened the front door, ignoring how the staff threw him disgruntled looks, his faded jeans and soft cotton T-shirt standing out against the sea of tuxedos and black ties in the worst way. The best way, you’d thought fleetingly. He’d tilted his head at you, as if it were the most natural thing, and then you were sneaking out, his hand on the small of your back as he guided you down the stairs in your heels and well, fuck.

Steve fucking Harrington.

You pulled the jacket over your shoulders, the collar smelling like mint and something woodsy, something you’d come to realise was just Steve. The sleeves were too big, the hem of the jacket falling to the same part of your thighs that your dress skimmed and you blew a breath out into the cool, night air.

The roads were empty and wet, the leftover scent of rain soaking into the sidewalks from the April shower that you must’ve missed during the mayor's speech. The air smelled like pine and the faintest hint of summer, a promise of warmer nights and longer days, coconut sunscreen and fresh lemonade.

You eyed the boy carefully, gazing from under your lashes to find him walking with his hands stuffed in his pockets, his state already set on you.

“Why’re you doing this?” You asked abruptly, your voice sounding too loud in the empty streets. The country club was a little out of town, the roads deserted and you both walked down the middle of it, footsteps balancing on the white lines that split each side.

“Why’d you call me?” Steve shot back. His words would’ve sounded harsh if there wasn’t a small smile on his face, the corner of his lips upturned into a smirk.

“You’re the only one with a car,” you retorted, cheeks warm because it was a lie and you both knew it. “Usually, anyway.”

That made him grin, your defiance, the flush on your face, the lie that tasted a little bittersweet on your tongue. He moved a little closer, made it seem casual, accidental, until your shoulders were brushing and he could smell the perfume that you were wearing, something fresh and soft, like apple.

“You didn’t have to, you know,” your voice was softer now and you were acutely aware of how close Steve was, how he was much taller than you remembered. “You didn’t have to come all the way over here just to walk me home.”

The boy simply shrugged, the light breeze messing at his hair and he chanced a gaze down at you, brown eyes warmer than you’d seen them before.

“I know,” he stated, voice sincere and without leaving much room for argument. “But I wanted to.”

The way he said it made your body buzz, an excitement rolling in your stomach at it, a feeling that led to what ifs and potential opportunities.

You twisted your lips, hiding the smile there and when you looked up at him, you raised your brows, tried your best to look intimidating. But your dress was pretty and a buttery yellow, soft like sunshine and his jacket was swallowing you whole.

“I thought you hated me,” you told him, nose scrunched.

Steve snorted, a laugh that sounded adorably cute and you hated the way you liked it. He nudged his side into yours, solid and warm and he shook his.

“Don’t hate you, princess,” his voice was softer than you’d heard before, “you’re just a pain in the ass.”

You huffed out a laugh, sharp and unexpected, because Steve Harrington had never made you laugh before. He seemed to like the sound, eyes shining, smile wide, cheeks a little rosy.

“Charming,” you murmured but your smile was still there, gaze on the ground as you tried to pull yourself together. You felt like a teenager again, first crush, first date, first kiss on the horizon as you let a boy walk you home in the dark. “You’re not exactly a peach either, Harrington.”

“Hey now,” he tutted, faux offence tinting his words and it made you want to laugh again, it made you wanna walk the length of Hawkins just to spend more time with him. “I have my moments.”

You were coming closer to your street, and you felt disappointment colour your words when you said as much, pointing to your front door as if you didn’t wanna go in.

“This is me,” you said, suddenly feeling shy. You were never shy, not with Steve, your usual sharp words and petty arguing the only way you knew how to communicate with him. You didn’t know what to do with this soft boy, who smelled nice and looked at you like you were something new to discover. “Thanks, really. You didn’t have to.”

Steve nodded, foot kicking at an invisible pebble on the sidewalk as if he were nervous. “Like I said,” he told you, voice soft and quiet in the dark, “I wanted to.”

You moved to shrug his jacket off, cool air nipping at your bare arms as you did but Steve stopped you, a hand on the collar as he pulled it back over your chest. You stared.

“Keep it,” he said, all faux nonchalance as he tried not to grin at you, dimple pressing into one cheek and eyes turning honey. “You can give it back to me next time.”

“Next time?” You repeated, brows knitted together in confusion but you were pulling the denim back up your arms, revelling in the way Steve looked at you as you did so. “When’s next time?”

But Steve was already backing away, feet a little clumsy as he stumbled backwards so he could look at you, smile wide and a spark of something new there. He shrugged, hands back in his pockets.

“I dunno,” he told you, “maybe you should give me a call again.”

Your lips parted in surprise, wondering if he was hinting at what you thought he was. “You wanna take another walk with me, Harrington?”

He grinned, a flash of bright and warmth in the dark street. He tilted his head back a little to look at you from under his lashes, eyes hooded and full of that Steve Harrington charm you’d heard so much about.

“A walk, dinner, maybe a movie, who’s to say?” He answered and you hate that you giggled, a soft laugh that made his eyes widen.

“Sounds a lot like a date,” you mused, voice full of delight and maybe it was just because it was dark, but you felt braver than you had before with the boy.

Steve crossed his arms, his head tilted to the side as if he were taking the time to think it over. He leant against a lamppost, eyes still on you, taking you in.

“It does, doesn’t it?” He grinned. “Weird.”

You laughed again, spinning on your heel as you started to walk the path to your front door, body warm as you felt his gaze on you as the hem of your dress danced around your thighs, shifting as you moved.

“Goodnight, Harrington,” your hand was on the door, face turned to look over your shoulder at him, expression suddenly coy. You had absolutely no idea what had just transpired.

“Talk soon, princess,” he answered and when he spoke, the nickname suddenly didn’t sound like an insult, like a curse on his lips like it used to.
