"The Seychelles has become a major tourist destination for beachgoing and scuba diving, but it’s not only humans that are beginning to flock to this island.
In what marine biologists have described as a “phenomenal finding,” a survey of whales around the territorial waters of this archipelagic nation revealed the presence of blue whales—over a dozen.
It’s the first time they’ve been seen in these warm seas since 1966, and it’s a wonderful milestone in a long and increasingly successful recovery for the world’s largest animal.
The Seychelles are located in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa, and they were historically a stopover point for Soviet whalers en route to Antarctica. The years 1963 to 1966 were particularly difficult for whales here, and many were taken before the International Convention on the Regulation of Whaling put an end to the practice of hunting baleen whales in 1973.
Since 1966, no dedicated investigation of whales in the Seychelles had been made until 2020, when a partnership of four universities conducted an acoustic survey over the period of two years.
They made five different sightings of groups of up to 10 animals.
“This was a phenomenal finding,” Jeremy Kiszka, a co-author of the paper from Florida International University, wrote in The Conversation. “We were prepared to not see any blue whales due to the high level of hunting that occurred fairly recently and absolutely no information was available since the last blue whale was killed in the region in 1964.” ...
The team behind the survey sent images taken of the whales’ dorsal sides to a database to see if any of them had been recorded before, and amid the reel, not a single one was a match with any other photographed whale.
This, the team suggests, means they have probably never been seen before, which for a species that big might seem strange, but along with there being only 5,000 to 15,000 on Earth, they migrate vast distances while diving deep, making recording their movements incredibly challenging.
The survey identified 23 whale species in total using hydroponic mics over 2 years with peak activity coming between December and April. This is a fascinating finding that suggests something about the seas around the Seychelles makes for excellent whale habitat."

I went to Hawaii. I went diving. It's the end of surf season and not quite dive season but this was a last minute family trip so its not as if I planned this. My standards for "decent dive conditions" are "water deep enough to get my head under that won't immediately kill me". So I was diving.
I found a phone at the bottom of the ocean, just below a surf break. Its pink. Its a iPhone. It's in a case. The case flooded, but Apple is a bitch who won't let anyone fix their precious hardware so the entire motherboard is sealed in resin. It's fully waterproof.
The phone takes a charge. My husband and I fly home, with the phone. The phone powers on. Estimated time at the bottom based on condition of the case : at least a month or 2.
My apple user husbandpulls emergency contact info off the phone. Number is disconnected. Commence the Facebook stalk. We find the guy. He hasn't posted in years. Good for him but frustrating. We find his sister from his page, who hasn't posted since last year. But on her page, she has a link to the health clinic she runs. The clinic has a phone number.
We leave one of the weirder voice-mails that clinic has ever received and prepare to wait 2 to 10 business days for a reply. We get a call back within the hour. She's on the wrong island but shes fairly certain we've found the right guy. She passes on our info to her brother and an hour or so later we get a call from him.
It's his wife's phone. She dropped it off a stand up paddle board while taking pictures of nephew learning to surf. There was also a loyalty card punchcard thing to an ice cream shop in the case, which we did find, but it was a wet paper pulp so it got tossed with the flooded case. Evidently she was more concerned with getting that back that the phone, which she had already replaced, since she had dropped it a full 5 months ago.
So anyway, we got a shipping address and we're mailing a miraculously not bricked phone from Alaska back to Hawaii. This is a new personal record for recovery diving.

Summer Court
As the gentle sea breeze caressed your face, the soothing sound of waves crashing against the shore enveloped your senses. With eyes closed, you allowed yourself to be immersed in the tranquillity of the ocean, feeling a sense of home wash over you.
You missed the ocean, Dawn’s cities weren’t on the coast. Mainly inland, with dense red roofed buildings. Often you would take trips to visit the shoreline, get closer to that salty air that spoke sweet whispers to you. You wondered why your family hadn’t chosen Summer over Dawn, given your heritage. No, instead your family had settled hundreds of years ago within the walls of Dawn. Still, a beautiful choice.
Suddenly, a presence appeared beside you, you could sense and smell him without needing to open your eyes. Perhaps it was the way he smelt of the ocean too that made him so familiar. Tarquin stood beside you, his figure outlined against the backdrop of the sparkling sea. His dark skin seemed to glow in the sunlight, and his hair, a striking silver-white, caught the light as it cascaded around his shoulders.
"I thought I could sense it, you are a child of the sea," Tarquin remarked, a warm smile gracing his features as he finally acknowledged something he had sensed in your earlier meeting.
"That is somewhat true," you mused, gaze still fixed on the vast expanse of ocean before you. Your kinship with the sea was a connection that ran deep.
"It explains why I felt so comfortable around you," Tarquin continued, his smile widening as he spoke. You knew of his abilities, his affinity for water manipulation.
“Like calls to like” You smiled softly.
You liked the Summer Court. You had made that assumption when you first met Tarquin, and it rang true during your first visit. Adriata exuded a serene beauty, even in the aftermath of conflict. The azure rooftops contrasted elegantly against the pristine white stone, glistening like pearls under the sun's warm embrace. The air was fresh with the lick of the ocean, and its residents were all sun kissed by that glorious beacon in the sky.
Eager to immerse yourself fully in the Summer Court ambiance, you had opted for a slight change of attire, trading your previous garments from the Court meeting for something light, airy, typical of the Summer Court. Your tunic which had been adorned with threaded court symbols was now replaced with a white shirt that still held the motifs on the fabric. Flowing white trousers gracefully pooled around your feet, allowing the gentle sea breeze to caress your skin, providing a welcome respite from the sun's rays.
Tarquin had graciously arranged for your accommodation within the palace, situating your quarters conveniently close to Cressida, with whom you had been working closely with during your brief stay. Together with Tarquin and the royal siblings, you convened in a secluded office to address the concerns voiced by the Summer Court's inhabitants.
The submitted requests predominantly revolved around the loss of homes, the devastation caused by the war, and the collective hope for recovery and resilience. Pooling your collective knowledge and resources, the four of you meticulously strategize the most effective measures to support and uplift the people of the Summer.
However, you understood that true healing would require patience and perseverance. Perhaps what the people of Prythian needed most was to feel heard and understood on a larger scale, with you and Lucien as their appointed emissaries serving as their advocates.
Spending the majority of the second day immersing yourself in the community of Adriata, you couldn't ignore the overall feeling of sadness. The lingering scars of war still cast a shadow over the court, underscoring the urgent need to rebuild and restore a sense of security and happiness among its residents.
Despite their resilience, Adriata seemed to have borne the brunt of the conflict, second perhaps only to the turmoil in Tamlin's court. You were determined to offer whatever assistance you could, recognising the challenges they faced in comparison to other courts.
Your efforts to connect with the townspeople were met with initial hesitation, yet you sensed a glimmer of kinship, perhaps they could tell you were one of the same like Tarquin recognised. It only took a few hours before you had residents crying on your shoulder and children running around your feet, tugging you left and right begging for you to prioritise rebuilding a park that had been destroyed.
The weight of your role as emissary of peace became increasingly apparent. You weren’t just an Emissary of peace, but you were the emissary of the people– something that felt heavier in weight. A weight you were happy to shoulder.
You could feel it in your chest, that pride that seemed to swell at your newfound duty. Realising how you could make an impact.
And so you promised to yourself, and silently towards the vast ocean that you would always listen to those who sought out your help.
"Your people seem somewhat deflated," you observed, your voice carrying a touch of empathy as you turned your gaze back to Tarquin. "Your court, your palace, your people... they've endured so much loss."
Tarquin nodded solemnly, "Yes, the scars of war run deep," he agreed, his eyes scanning the horizon as if searching for hope. "But we are resilient, and with the support of the likes of you, I believe we can rebuild and thrive once more."
You offered him a reassuring smile, your confidence bolstered. "It's a priority to restore not just the physical aspects of your court, but also the spirit of your people," you affirmed, your voice brimming with conviction. "To ensure they not only feel safe but also find happiness in their home once again."
You understood the importance of nurturing the well-being of those under your care, of bringing light to the darkest corners and hope to weary hearts. "...With our collective efforts, I have no doubt that we can return Summer to all its glory," you declared, your words infused with determination.
You couldn’t help the smile that stretched across your lips. Every word you spoke you truly believed.
Tarquin's gaze softened as he met your eyes, a flicker of admiration dancing in his gaze. "Your optimism is contagious," he remarked, a hint of appreciation colouring his tone. "It's refreshing to have someone like you by my side, someone who sees the potential for greatness even in our darkest moments."
“A flame will always appear brighter in the shadows…” you mused.
With that, the two of you exchanged a meaningful look, a silent vow passing between you.
༄
Night Court
You arrived at River House promptly, noting the late morning meeting time with an understanding that it was typical for the Night Court. Unlike the bustling activity you were accustomed to at Dawn, Velaris seemed eerily quiet during those early hours. You had always risen with the sun, risen at dawn. It seemed your body clock may have to change during your visits here. As you prowled through the streets, hoping to connect with some of its residents, you found them few and far between. A handful of market owners setting up stalls offered brief introductions, but for the most part, the city felt deserted, as if it were a ghost town.
Welcomed into the grand foyer by a member of staff, you waited calmly, your gaze sweeping over the opulent surroundings. Your eyes lingered on the large circular table at the centre of the room, with a large display of flowers in the middle. You gently leaned forward, eyes closing as you inhaled the sweet scent before taking in the rest of the room. The twin curved staircases that ascended gracefully upwards, adorned with paintings of the inner circle on the walls.
Cute. You mused.
You knew of Feyre’s affinity for art and painting, Lucien had filled you in and you’d done your own research too. You would not be coming into this setting blind.
Your eyes drifted over the portraits of Rhys and Feyre's family, each figure rendered in exquisite detail. Among them, your gaze settled on an image that felt oddly familiar, it was your pen pal. But as you gazed at the details it felt as though you were looking at someone you knew well, there was a simmering beneath your skin.
Why did he feel so familiar?
Captured with remarkable precision by Feyre's skilled hand, his hazel eyes bore into you from beneath the layers of paint. Their intensity, almost unnerving yet strangely captivating.
Why were you so drawn to him?
Multiple footsteps echoed through the marble floors, prompting you to delicately brush down your tunic, ensuring it lay perfectly to display the intricate symbols of the courts. The tunic was one of the same from the previous meeting, but instead of silver being the base you had commissioned another version. A dark charcoal, a nod to the night court. And you have to say the designs really did pop against the smoky backdrop.
As Rhysand and Feyre entered the foyer, their presence commanded attention, followed closely by three more figures. Among them, you recognised Azriel instantly, his piercing gaze locking onto yours.
It was the second time today that his eyes had ensnared your attention.
Cassian and Nesta followed suit, their identities obvious from Lucien's descriptions.
Azriel took you in, digesting your new look. One he couldn’t deny he liked. He enjoyed seeing you in Night Court colours– his colours.
“Welcome, y/n,” Feyre greeted with a warm smile.
"Your home is beautiful. Thank you for letting me stay here," you replied graciously, returning her smile.
A shadowy fae had swiftly taken your bags moments ago, her disappearing in silence with your belongings. You assumed she was taking them to your room.
“I just thought with us working so closely together, you being close made more sense,” Feyre explained. Despite the weight of this new chapter bearing down on the entire court, Feyre had decided to spearhead this herself. She was taking the lead, determined to prove her worth as High Lady to her people and all of Prythian.
Feyre then proceeded to introduce Cassian and Nesta. You nodded at them with a polite smile, “And of course you already know Azriel” Feyre spoke.
“Hmm I do” you hummed gently on your lips, the words rolling off in a quiet melody that seemed to make Azriel’s shadows vibrate. If you hadn’t been so enraptured by his gaze you might have noticed the smirks playing on Rhy’s and Cassian’s lips as they glanced over at the exchange.
One of Azriel’s shadows had found itself under your flowing trousers, swirling around your ankle like a gentle breeze. You wondered if Azriel knew of how fond his little minions were of you.
How they often stayed longer than necessary between correspondences, how they liked to play with your hair or how they would always dance when you hummed. Leaving them reluctant to ever leave.
You wondered if they had told him that, you also wondered what he told them.
The Inner Circle graciously showed you around the River House, leading you to the room where you would be staying during your visits. Your belongings for your short trip, already unpacked and hung in the wardrobe.
Finally, you all congregated in a large office that had been designated for your use during your visits. The office was spacious, with a large table dominating the centre of the room. You settled into a seat, surrounded by the others, who were all ready to assist you in your duties.
As part of your new role, you and Lucien had initiated a proposition allowing people from across Prythian to submit their concerns, feelings, and issues. You had worked through Summer’s submissions during your visit, as Lucien was also doing with the courts under his care. Rhys conjured multiple stacks of pages onto the table with a simple click of his finger, each page representing a submission from individuals within the Night Court.
There had to be thousands. Thank the stars Feyre had enlisted the help of her inner circle, otherwise you’re not sure the both of you would have made it through them all in one day.
You couldn't help but widen your eyes at the sight, the sheer volume of submissions taking you by surprise. Tarquin's court had been demanding, but the Night Court's submissions seemed to dwarf them in comparison.
Rhys and Feyre exchanged a glance, a hint of embarrassment colouring their expressions.
You could hear their concerns in the pauses of their breaths– Had they not been effectively managing their court? Were their people dissatisfied?
Feyre looked disheartened.
"This is a general submission, covering various concerns about the peace treaty, border movements, and trade agreements," you explained gently, seeking to alleviate any tension in the room. "It's commendable that your people feel comfortable expressing their feelings. We can't address issues if people choose to remain silent."
Feyre visibly relaxed at your words, and with that, the six of you began the arduous task of sorting through the requests, categorising them based on their content.
You’re not sure how much time had passed before light conversation spread across the room. Cassian huffing and puffing at how quickly everyone else was reading through requests, while he’d only made it through three.
Azriel was opposite you, flicking through the documents meticulously. Every now and then his gaze lingering on you before moving back to the task at hand. His shadows silently helping, by moving pages to their correct piles.
You wanted his shadows to help you. You knew if you’d asked them, they’d happily oblige. They were quite forthcoming during your correspondences, but you kept your mouth sealed and worked through the pages alone.
There had been an underlying theme to the Night Court’s residents' concerns. Similar to how Summer collectively were worried about the physical rebuilding of their home, the Night Court had their own collective issue.
They didn’t want the borders to open. They didn’t want to share Velaris.
You’re not particularly surprised, Velaris had been a secret city for years. It’s inhabitants were concerned for their safety, but of course it had also bred a rhetoric of exclusivity. They didn’t want ‘outsiders’ in their home.
Feyre seemed to become more and more uncomfortable as the pile regarding border restrictions continued to grow. You could tell Rhys was trying to comfort her, most likely through that magical mating bond– but he was failing.
“They’re pushing back Rhys…” The words left Feyre’s lips sadly. Despite how progressive Rhysand and Feyre wanted to be in this new chapter, that didn’t mean their people felt the same.
Velaris, Hewn City, the Ilyarians. Everything was so segregated, you weren’t surprised in the slightest that this type of mentality had grown.
“People are scared of what they don’t know..” You glanced up to Feyre, who was looking at you now. As were all the members of the table.
“The people of Velaris won’t be the only ones who may have reservations” You continued, laying the paper in your hand back onto the table.
“So did Tarquins people also feel this way?” Feyre asked, you could hear the desperation in her words.
Please tell me it’s not just my people who are being this hostile.
You tilted your head slightly, your lips forming a tight line. “Every court will differ in their issues… Summer’s concerns were not the same as yours.”
You knew that wasn’t what Feyre wanted to hear, her mate pulled her gently into him to press a reassuring kiss on her temple. Rhys pulled away, his expression turning serious as he narrowed his gaze on you.
“What are we doing wrong?” he asked, the weight of his question palpable in the room. The High Lord was essentially asking you where he and his family were failing. It wasn’t an easy question to address, but it seemed he wanted constructive criticism.
You rolled your shoulders back as you measured the tension in the room. Sometimes criticism could be hard to digest. Intertwining your fingers you placed your hands on the table in front of you.
“I appreciate you’ve done what you had to in order to protect your court,” you began cautiously, feeling the burning stares of all five of them on you.
But you wouldn’t let them deter you. This was a part of your job.
You continued, “But I believe there are some detrimental damages that have occurred because of it.”
You felt Nesta fold her arms beside you, and noticed how Cassian fidgeted in his seat. They were not enjoying this.
“Your people are segregated,” you said, stating the uncomfortable truth. “If you are deemed worthy enough, you can live in Velaris. If not, you are trapped in Hewn.” you emphasised this by bringing one hand to the left and your other to the right, as if metaphorically representing the two cities you mentioned.
"But that’s not how it is,” Cassian interjected, his tone defensive.
You continued, unwavering. “And then the Illyrians get the freezing mountains? You must be able to see what it looks like, you must be able to understand how it may feel to be a citizen of Hewn or an Illyrian, and look at Velaris wondering why you are not able to be a part of this.”
“Perhaps even feel you are not worthy enough to be part of this. It not only breeds an elitist mindset for the citizens of Velaris but the resentment the inhabitants Hewn city harbour must be tenfold”
Cassian's demeanour shifted, growing more defensive. “You don’t understand, that’s how it has always been. Everything we’ve done, the sacrifices we’ve made were all for the greater good.”
“Every court, every person has had to make sacrifices. Let’s not sit here and start tallying, as you will be quickly humbled to realise it is not the Night Court that has lost the most,” you countered, feeling the tension in the room rise. “Nor shall sacrifice be used as a just excuse when something is not right.”
Azriel gave Cassian a subtle look, urging him to calm down.
Taking a breath, you spoke softer this time “I’m not here to judge, we can’t change what has happened. But I won’t mince my words. The way this court has existed has allowed only a certain group to prosper, and that is a problem.”
"Feyre, if you truly wish for humans to live in your court in harmony with Fae, if you want your borders to open and those who wish to travel and move freely, then things will have to change," you emphasised, your tone earnest yet firm. "If the Fae of this land can't already coexist among each other, then I don't know how opening borders or integrating humans will even be feasible."
Feyre's eyes met yours, a flicker of realisation crossing her features as she absorbed your words. It was clear that your statement had struck a chord with her.
“Then what do you propose we do, Miss Emissary of Peace?” Azriel’s question hung heavy in the air, his eyes searching yours for a solution. But it felt like a challenge.
While Cassian’s opposition had been obvious, Azriel, ever the Spymaster, had been quiet in his disagreement. He equally hadn’t been fond of the way you challenged his High Lord and Lady’s reign, but he wanted to test you. See if that sharp wit he had encountered in your correspondence could actually follow through to something more than words.
You paused, feeling the weight of Azriel's gaze on you.
Then you turned to the head of the table “Your son,” Feyre paused, a flicker of concern crossing her face at the mention of her child. “He is of studying age?”
Feyre nodded, Rhys giving you a scrutinising look. “He has tutors, yes.”
You looked at the Shadowsinger again, your eyes narrowing as your lips quipped at the edges. You would pass his test.
“I propose a school. A school for the children of Velaris, the children of Hewn,” you said, casting a meaningful glance at Cassian, “and the Illyrian children.”
At once, objections erupted around the table. Voices clamoured, expressing doubts about Illyrian participation and concerns over mingling different communities. How only High Fae had ever been the ones to have access to education, and that other groups would most likely not even care. But your focus remained on Feyre, sensing a glimmer of interest in her eyes.
“I know how stubborn people can be, how set in their ways they become over time,” you continued, addressing the room. “So we start with the children. We show them how positive change can be. Myself and Lucein both agreed adopting a human education system would be really beneficial here in Prythian. Your court is currently the only one with the means and resources.”
Despite the protests of those around the table, Feyre remained locked on your words so you continued. Knowing exactly what you needed to say to win her favour.
“I believe every child has a right to learn, to read and write, and a chance at an education. A place they can go to where they are safe, where they will be heard. A place where they can make friends, and…I guess after all this suffering and loss, shouldn’t we give all children an opportunity to just be kids?”
The room was silent now, Rhys tilted his head with a small smirk while Feyre beside him leaned forward. Cassian had gone silent too, your words silencing any oppositions he may have had. Even Nesta seemed to be reflecting on your proposition.
It was Azriel who offered you a gentle smile, all though his gaze was still dark. You had passed then. His silent test.
“A school for all children, it would be the first of its kind in all of Prythian.” Feyre beamed, looking at her mate with a glowing expression. “And maybe we could eventually welcome the humans too…and anyone else who wanted to join.”
You nodded in agreement, your vision now becoming a shared dream with the High Lady.
“I love it,” Feyre sang, her enthusiasm contagious. “But the guys are right, the people won’t agree.”
Rhys leaned forward, his expression thoughtful. “Perhaps,” he began, his voice measured, “but we can't afford to let fear and resistance dictate our actions. This is about shaping the future of our court, for all of Prythian. Fostering unity, and breaking down barriers that have long divided us.”
As chatter filled the room, you felt any lingering tension roll off your shoulders. Another successful decision was made, one that would undoubtedly surprise Lucien when he heard about it. You had gotten the Night Court to agree to opening a school on your first day, a proposal that had originally been a part of a five year plan.
Oh, the satisfaction of being able to gloat about this when you next saw Lucie.
Feyre excitedly began to discuss curriculum, subjects that would appeal to all communities. Of course she was quick to advocate that Art classes had to be a priority, and Cassian had joined in, declaring if the Ilyarins were to ever let their children attend school some kind of defensive fighting class would have to exist. Nesta was surprisingly quick to suggest Literature, the mention of the subject blazing something alight in her eyes.
“Do you always get what you want?” Azirel asked smoothly, his question going unnoticed by his busy family.
You smirked, your gaze softening on him “Always.”
༄
You don’t belong here.
The ocean doesn’t want you, we don’t want you.
Sharp talons were clawing at your skin, dragging you down to the oceans floor.
Drown, half breed. Why won’t you drown.
Dirty blood.
There’s no home for you here.
You awaken abruptly, your heart pounding in your chest, the remnants of fear lingering like a ghost. Gasping for air, you instinctively clutch at your throat, as if the claws of your nightmares still linger there.
Ready to drag you back down to the dark void of the oceans bed.
But it wasn’t real.
No, it had been real once though. Now a distant memory.
You lay there, trying to steady your breathing. It had been years since that particular nightmare plagued your sleep. It had haunted your younger years, a relentless spectre that would always find a way to creep into your dreams.
But with time, with age, you had managed to push it aside, burying it deep within the recesses of your mind.
Yet, tonight it had resurfaced with a vengeance. Perhaps it was the discussion of differences earlier in the day that had dredged up those buried fears. The submissions filled with divisive words like ‘other’, ‘outsiders’ and ‘them’ had struck a nerve, tapping into the lingering insecurities you were sure you’d grown out of.
But being 'other' was something you had become accustomed to. It was a label you had carried with you your entire life, never quite fitting in there, never fitting in here. Always straddling the line between worlds.
The land and the ocean.
You take a moment to steal a glance towards the window, greeted by the sight of the night sky, its darkness punctuated only by the twinkling stars and the soft glow of the moon. It was still night. Yet, you were wide awake. And knowing your hosts as late risers, you had a lot of time to kill.
With a sigh, you slip out of the large bed and reach for a robe hanging by the washroom. Its smooth black silk drapes elegantly around you, not wanting to leave the room in merely a night gown. Although you doubted anyone would be awake at this hour.
The need for fresh air beckons, guiding your steps towards the balcony that adjoins the living room you had explored earlier. As you step outside, a gentle breeze caresses your skin. Taking a seat in the plush couch, you find yourself mesmerised by the panoramic view of Velaris before you. The city sprawls out in all its glory, its enchanting beauty captivating even in the darkness of night.
Before you even have a chance to fully immerse yourself in the moment, a cup and pot of tea materialise in front of you, seemingly conjured by the magic of the manor. With a grateful smile, you pour yourself a cup of the steaming liquid, relishing in its comforting warmth.
It's only a matter of moments before you sensed his presence. You instinctively knew it was him. His shadows singing a whisper that you don’t even think he had been able to hear.
"You going to lurk there all night?" you tease with a playful smile, but you don’t turn to him. Your eyes fixed on the city across the river, while you sip quietly on your drink.
Azriel, perhaps surprised that you noticed him, joins you sitting at your side. His expression is tired, his usually sharp features softened by weariness. You wonder if he, too, wrestles with his own nightmares and torments that keep him awake at night.
"I understand why you did it," you speak softly, gesturing towards the city below. "It's beautiful, worth protecting. I hope you all didn't feel attacked by my observations earlier."
Azriel offers a small, understanding smile. "You have quite a sharp tongue, but you spoke the truth."
You sat with his words for a while, silence filling the air while he poured himself a cup of tea once the house had conjured him a cup.
“You always had the intention of proposing a school didn’t you?” Azriel's inquiry was direct, his eyes probing for the truth.
“It’s something Lucien and I had discussed," you admitted, meeting his gaze steadily. "We believed this court would be the most suitable place. While I hadn’t planned on suggesting it today, the solution seemed fitting given the circumstances.” As you spoke, you realised Azriel was closer than you initially thought, his presence radiating warmth beside you that almost made you move in closer to share that heat.
“But ultimately, the plan is broader," you continued. "We envision schools across Prythian, freely accessible to those who wish to attend. Schools for the littlings, and perhaps even universities for those seeking higher education. It’s a long-term plan, but I believe it could be the perfect tie to connect all the courts."
Vassa had mentioned the existence of a university on the continent, catering to humans in their early adulthood or those seeking to resume their studies. Once you and Lucien had solidified your plan for schools across Prythian, it was Tamlin to whom you proposed the idea of a university. You sensed that his court needed a beacon of hope, something to strive for. Your suggestion had the desired effect, not that you ever had a doubt. But it was how you’d managed to pull Tamlin from his depressive state. Giving him a sense of purpose and direction.
Azriel's expression softened, a hint of admiration in his eyes. "You really have it all planned out."
“Planning can only go so far though…” You paused, your thoughts drifting to the complexities of your role. It wasn’t all rainbows and schools. As if hearing your inner concerns, a cold, gentle caress brushed across your face – his shadows.
Azriel’s eyes widened slightly, watching as his shadows acted autonomously, curling around your hair and kissing your cheek.
"Well, hello, little ones. Have you missed me?" you purred playfully, eliciting a soft vibration of excitement from the shadows as they continued to fuss over you.
A soft melodic laugh left your lips, that had them stirring again.
"They seem to like you," Azriel remarked, his voice tinged with slight disbelief as he watched the shadows' unexpected display of affection.
"What's not to like?" you teased, noticing Azriel's surprise at his shadows' behaviour. "We've grown quite friendly during our correspondences. I might even consider them my friends," you added with a smile, knowing your words would only amplify the shadows' playfulness.
Friend, friend, friend.
They seemed to chant in Azriel’s ear.
“They’ve never acted like this with anyone before…” He whispered, his hand gently reaching forward to you. You didn’t move as he pulled a shadow from your hair, his rough fingers gently grazing past your throat as he did. The small action eliciting goosebumps over your body.
For a brief moment, you could have lost yourself in that delicate interaction, but a realisation dawned upon you. What he had just said was a lie.
“They’ve never acted like this with anyone before”
Lie.
But why would he lie about that? Something so small and trivial.
You could hear it in the unspoken, under his words, what it actually revealed. There had been another.
But who?

This morning we released a rescued green sea turtle!
The sea turtle was rescued near Avila Beach, California, on December 11, 2023, by The Marine Mammal Center’s San Luis Obispo Operations based in Morro Bay, California. The Marine Mammal Center in Morro Bay transferred the rescued sea turtle to the Aquarium with authorization from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Fisheries office for a medical evaluation, surgery, and care because of the Aquarium’s expertise in treating and releasing stranded and injured sea turtles.
When the sea turtle arrived at the Aquarium on December 11, 2023, it had an injured flipper and was in need of medical care and rehabilitation. The Aquarium’s veterinary and animal husbandry staff performed surgery on the sea turtle’s injured front flipper and had been caring for the sea turtle behind the scenes as it recovered. The animal is a subadult and is estimated to be between three and five years old.
“It was an incredible moment, watching the turtle make its way from the sand into the ocean and swim away. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to help it recover and return to the wild,” said Dr. Adams, Aquarium of the Pacific veterinarian.
The turtle is fitted with a microchip ID and also a microsatellite tag that was provided and applied by Upwell Turtles. If all goes according to plan, we should receive location updates in about 3 weeks. Stay tuned!

Zoro:
Lying in the recovery bay, you shuffle the thin blankets up your chest to engulf your body with more of its lackluster warmth. No matter how much you cower beneath the blankets, the warmth would simply not rise to where you needed it the most.
Shaking within the sheets, you remember Chopper suggesting you use your arms to heat your chest as opposed to using your hands to shake warmth into your biceps. Shuddering in each step, your fingertips brush with the bandages as you engulf your upper body in an embrace.
The door to your bay slides open, revealing the First-Mate of your crew. His body is covered in bandages not so dissimilar than your own. Without making eye contact, he strides over in three long steps and brings himself to your bedside.
“Scooch over,” he utters, placing his three swords against the bedside table, “‘M gettin’ in.”
“What-?” you begin, eyes widening in shock as he whips the blankets back and gently nudges you over with his large thighs.
“-You always get cold in recovery,” Zoro spoke over your concern, tugging the thin blanket over your shoulders and his broad chest, “And I always get too hot. Need to feel you close. Cancel each other out, or whatever.”
Where you expected this burly man to accidentally brush against your wounds, you found careful and slow movements from his fingertips. His hands slowly glide over your waist, his head settling into the single cushion behind you, while tugging gently for you to lie down against the firm mattress.
“This okay?” he murmured, his eyes still not meeting your own in his own fluster. The heat radiating from his body immediately soothed over your freezing skin, the warmth encumbered you in an embrace of its own.
You felt your body relax, slowly wincing as you raised your arm to brace against the larger man’s chest.
“It’s nice,” you utter your confirmation to him, prompting his eyes to flutter open and look down at you, “Thank you, Zoro. You always think of everyone before yourself.”
“Was thinkin’ of myself too,” his smirk rose up to paint his lips with its radiance, “You’re always so bloody cold. 'Gotta cool myself down while I warm you up.”
Laying in each other's arms, you drift into a warm and comfortable slumber: as comfortable as one could be while recovering from hefty injuries.
Sanji
Glancing out of the window, you propped yourself up onto the single, flat pillow to watch the soothing splash of the oceanic waves. The sea always calmed you in recovery, often finding yourself drawn to the rise of the subtle roar each time the water met with the shore.
The sliding door opened, revealing the blonde chef of the Straw-Hat crew. In his left hand, a tray with several bowls of food in various shapes and sizes shuffled intentionally upon the silver tray.
“Hello Sanji,” you smiled at him, wincing beneath the strain of your injuries as you attempted to greet him more appropriately.
“No, no. Lay back and get comfortable,” he gestured with his right hand for you to recline against the backboard of the recovery cot, “I’ve brought you a couple of things for you to eat. Hope you’re hungry.”
Smiling up at him, you scuttled back to assume a more comfortable, upright position. As Sanji began assembling the items in front of you, you felt your eyes called once more to the sea. The rise and fall of the waves prompted you to breathe in each time the soft foam brushed along the gold sand, exhaling each time the water tore itself away from the beach.
“I brought you some seaweed soup cooked in beef bone broth,” he handed you the soft, bento tray, noticing the soup bowl off to the side, “I gave everyone else some spicy kimchi jjigae, but you said you were allergic to peppers from memory. I had to improvise with getting some heat into that dish. Ginger and some green radish should do the trick in making it spicy for you. Get the blood pumping to heal you better.”
Your eyes softened at the blonde chef. He always took such good care of the crew, even when in recovery himself. Upturning your eyebrows at him, you gave his hand a gentle tap as you expressed your gratitude to him.
“Thank you, chef,” you whispered, looking at the assembly. He’d cut several of the vegetables into various shapes: stars, flowers and animals. You cocked your head to the right, noticing a small shell beside the box.
“What’s this?” you asked him, lifting the small shell up to hold it out in front of you. It was a small spiral, coiling up to a single point. Several specks of green spots littered the base of the shell, the peak in a warm yellow.
“It’s from the beach down there,” he smiled at you, placing down a final bowl of rice in front of you, “The beach calms you, right? Helps you breathe?”
“Oh, Sanji,” you chuckled at him, shaking your head as you smoothed the pad of your thumb over the shell, “You’ve really thought of everything, haven’t you?”
“What was I meant to do?” he gestured his hands outwards with a small shrug, “Forget all of the knowledge you’ve made me privy to in our time together? Now, eat up. We sail as soon as you’re well enough to travel.”
He smiled at you, turning away and making his way to the door. Your attention was fully captivated by the spiral shell he’d gifted you from the beach. You slowly inhaled with the ocean, breathing in the many herbal scents from the meal he’d dutifully prepared for you. Softly smiling, you began to make your way through the items, all while holding the small shell and breathing with the ocean.

Tumblr media
You don't remember the exact moment you fell for Conrad Fisher, maybe it was all those years ago when your family had moved in a beach house for summer in Cousins after your dad's knee surgery as the doctor had suggested that fresh air and change in scenery would do wonders for his recovery. You and your sister were playing by the huge swimming pool in the backyard when your mom had called you both over and handed you two freshly baked boxes of chocolate chip cookies that were to be given to your new neighbors, The Fishers and The Conklins.
You had nervously knocked at the Fisher's front door and a boy about your age had answered it, his eyes were the most beautiful, sublime shade of blue you've ever seen reminding you of the ocean from your bedroom window, his smile when he introduced himself, welcoming you and your sister to the neighborhood made your heart skip a beat and your nerves dissipate as you and your sister thanked him, introducing yourselves.
When you walked out of the Fishers’ front gate, waving at Conrad, your heart knew that it was the beginning of something special between you both.
At Conklins’ you were greeted by a beautiful woman who introduced herself as Laurel and a girl who was looking at you and your sister curiously from behind her mother and was the same age as your sister was her daughter, Isabel or Belly.
Another year, another summer at Cousins, your dad was recovering very well, all thanks to the ocean breeze, sun, sand and sea along with the love and care of his family, friends and neighbors. The Fishers and The Conklins have been a huge support to you and your family, Susannah and Laurel were there for your parents countless times while Conrad, Jeremiah and Belly helped you and your sister settle in with them right away.
You had gotten a part time summer job at the clubhouse as a lifeguard, same as Jeremiah and you're currently on your shift, keeping an eye out at the swimming pool and then focusing back on the book in your hand. When you look up again, you spot Steven jump over the snack bar where he was working and rush over to the other side of the pool where Conrad, Belly and Taylor had just walked in, Conrad waves at you and you wave back, Belly gives you a small wave which you return and Taylor smiles at you, you smile back and they then turn to wave at Jeremiah as Steven reaches the group.
Taylor laughs as Steven very animatedly narrates her something, both walking back to the snack bar while Belly and Conrad prepare for a dip in the pool, book momentarily forgotten in your lap, you watch as Conrad pulls his shirt over his head and you sigh, resting your chin in the palm of your hand but your daydreaming doesn't last long as a commotion in the pool has you and Jeremiah getting down from your chairs and intervene to restore everything back to normal.
Conrad ducks laughing as Belly flicks some water at him, dark brown locks of his hair sticking to his forehead, the alluring blue hues of his eyes sparkle in the afternoon sun and you sigh again, pressing your fist close to your heart.
“So when are you going to tell my brother that you've been in love with him since forever?” Jeremiah speaks up and when you look at the youngest Fisher, his arms are crossed upon his chest, his eyebrows are quirked up in amusement.
“And here we go again.” You shake your head and then start walking back to your chair when your sister joins you both.
“Since the time we showed up at your door with cookies, Jere. Conrad opened the door, one look at his gorgeous blue eyes and warm smile, she was a goner!”
“When did you get here?” You ask.
“Just now? With Conrad, Belly and Taylor.
I stayed back for a while to text mum for the snacks we would need for our Disney movie night.” She answers, holding up her phone to show you the list of snacks.
“Please tell me we are not watching Tangled AGAIN?” Jeremiah quips in.
“Flynn Ryder Supremacy!!” You and your sister both answer at the same time as Jeremiah groans making you both laugh.
“No but seriously sis, when are you going to tell Connie how you feel?” Your sister changes the subject again.
“Exactly. What are you waiting for? For him to bring a girl home from college for the holidays and announce their engagement? Or for him to get married to her and announce that they are expecting their first child?” Jeremiah adds, agreeing to what your sister just said.
“You guys..” You sigh. It's not that you never had the thought about telling Conrad how you really feel for him, you did, half of your days were spent thinking about Conrad and how would it really be if you ever told him about your feelings? Would he smile and then pull you in for a passionate kiss or would you mess up and end up ruining your friendship?
“It's.. it's not easy okay? What if I tell him how I really feel and he doesn't feel the same way? It would ruin our friendship and that's the last thing I want.”
“Sis, I understand. It's always scary to open up your heart to someone, especially when you've been friends for so long. There is a chance that Conrad might not reciprocate, there is a chance that it might ruin your friendship but there's also a chance that he might reciprocate, a chance that your friendship might evolve into something beautiful, but if you don't tell him how you feel, you'll have nothing but regrets, what-if's and a missed shot at true love.” Your sister replies, gently clasping your hand in hers.
“Hey, I thought I was the wiser one. When did you grow up so much?”
“Fyi, contrary to what you think dearest sister, I am always the wiser one, duh. Also, I've been learning from the best.”
You smile and hug your sister tight, who hugs you back as tightly.
“Room for one more?” Jeremiah asks.
Smiling, you both open your arms for him to join in the hug and he does, happily throwing his arms around you and your sister.
“Now I need to tell Connie how I feel.”
“Tell me what?”
A deep voice that you would recognize even in your dreams, Conrad stands behind you, a towel on his shoulder as he looks between the three of you.
“To tell you that.. that we'll be watching Tangled at the disney movie night again.” Jeremiah saves you at the right moment and you quietly mouth him a thank you to which he responds with a subtle wink.
“Oh, that's cool. I like Tangled.” Conrad shrugs.
“Et tu, Brute?” Jeremiah clutches his chest dramatically making you all laugh.
Still laughing at his brother's antics, Conrad shakes his head and then looks at you, “I was thinking, if you are free then maybe we could go for a swim.”
You look at your watch, “Yeah sure, my shift ends in five minutes. Let me just change out of my lifeguard uniform and then I'll join you.”
“Cool.”
Your sister clears her throat, “We too have be somewhere, don't we Jere?”
“Yeah, I have a few hours of my shift left so I'll be going back to my chair.”
“And I'll go find Belly and Taylor.”
“Have fun kids.” Jeremiah salutes you both and then walks off with your sister.
You change out of your uniform and since you are already wearing your bikini underneath, it's even quicker. You untie your hair, give them a little shake as you take a last look at yourself in the mirror and then take a deep breath to calm the butterflies fluttering in your stomach before walking out to meet Conrad by the pool, whose eyes widen and jaw drops as he takes you in, his eyes lingering on your curves.
“I.. Wow. Is that new?” He asks, breaking out of his trance, referring to your burnt orange high waisted bikini.
“Oh.. this old thing? No, I brought it last summer just.. never had the chance to wear it.” You reply shyly, tucking a lock of hair behind your ear.
“I.. you.. Wow. You look..”
Last summer when you had picked up the bikini from the rack to try it on, you instantly fell in love with it, for it beautifully accentuates your curves and not to mention, your sister wouldn't leave you alone till you brought the swimsuit.
Now that you've left Conrad Fisher speechless, you're so fucking glad that you tried on the bikini, that your sister pestered you to buy it and that you decided to wear it this morning.
“You.. You look stunning! I love the color on you.” Conrad says as he steps a bit closer, his sapphire eyes darken precisely to a shade of the ocean under a night sky.
“Thank you Connie.” You reply, the tips of your ears turning pink.
“So, the last one to reach the other side of the pool is a rotten egg?” He then looks at you with pure mischief, amusement dancing in his blue eyes.
“Oh you're so on, Fisher!”
The two of you dived into the pool together, trying to out-race each other. It's something you both have been doing every summer since you were kids and you had first arrived at Cousins. Jeremiah and your sister used to be the referees but you both are competitive and the loser has to buy winner ice-cream for the rest of the summer, so the stakes are even higher with free ice-cream which resulted in a fighting match and ended in you both sulking and not talking to each other.
It made you and Conrad miserable, not to mention Jeremiah and Your sister had to be your messengers when you both weren't talking and they were sick of it, so they quit and you both then decided to dial down the competitiveness but the loser still had to buy winner ice-cream for the rest of the summer and you and Conrad still squabble over who out-raced whom.
You both swam to the other side of the pool together, finishing neck to neck and agree to buy each other ice-cream, as you and Conrad dry off, you two trade stories about college, your classes, the friends you've made and agreeing on the fact that the friendships you've both formed in Cousins will always be special.
Strands of his wet, dark brown hair fall on his forehead, obstructing your view of his eyes and before you can stop yourself, you are already pushing back the locks of his hair so you can look into his eyes.
“Have I ever told you that your eyes are the most beautiful shade of blue I've ever seen? It reminds me of the ocean. Everytime you pull your hair down, I want to brush them away because.. I want to get lost in those eyes, Connie.”
Sometimes when I look into your eyes,
I pretend you're mine, all the damn time.
Conrad steps closer to you, his hand cupping the side of your face and his thumb caressing your cheek gently.
“No you haven't, but the way you look at me tells me everything.”
An enormous splash of water drenches you both, breaking the tender moment between you two as a twelve year old resurfaces and apologizes for cannonballing into the pool too hard.
“So ice-cream?” Conrad laughs, wiping off water from his face, his hand now entwined with yours.
“Yess ice-cream!” You respond excitedly, with a child-like gleam in your eyes and Conrad laughs again as he leads you out of the pool area.
You all had worked and planned your butts off for the 70’s themed party, a last hurrah at the Fisher's beach house, a homage to Susannah. Initially, it was Belly's idea and Conrad had agreed to it but you all wanted to give the beloved beach house a proper goodbye.
You had chosen black velvet bell bottoms paired with a red bohemian print front tie top that had cute bell sleeves, hoop earrings and chunky heels while your sister had opted for a sparkly silver dress with a matching headband, cuff bracelets and ankle length boots. She had done both hers and yours makeup with holographic eyeliners, lots of glitter and gems for the eyes and classic red lips. You looked beautiful, you felt beautiful and you got compliments the minute you walked in through the door.
You spot Conrad standing by the drinks counter with Steven and he waves at you as he sees you, picking up two beers and making his way through the crowd to you.
“Wow.. you look..” He tries, never once taking his eyes off you.
Was Conrad Fisher speechless again? This is the second time! Do you have that effect on him?
Your heart skips a beat as you reply, “I just hope I'm on theme.”
“You are, you look beautiful.” Conrad speaks as he looks into your eyes.
“Thanks Connie.” You blush, unable to hold eye contact.
Steven calls you both over for photos, you strike a cute pose, your fingers held up to the left side of your face in a v sign and a bright smile, your other arm around Conrad while his arm is around your waist, the warmth of his skin against yours making your heart pound in your chest.
The camera goes off with a bright white flash and you both go over to Steven to see the photo, it takes a few moments to develop and when it does, Steven has the biggest grin on his face as he hands the photograph to you both.
It's a very cute picture, you posing for the camera while Conrad looks at you adoringly, not at the camera where he should be looking but at you, warmth spreads in every fiber of your body as you realize that that's exactly how you look at him too, not to mention, you also noticed how he had brushed his hair back today and wasn't pulling it down like he always did. The crimson on your cheek darkens when you realize that he did it for you because you like his hair brushed back so you can look into his eyes.
“What do we have here?” Your sister comes up from behind you, pulling the polaroid from your grasp before you can stop her and Jere ofcourse is right behind her, the two being of the same age and are as thick as thieves.
“Ooooh. This is such a romantic picture, isn't it Jere?” Your sister's eyes sparkle with fondness and mischief as she looks at the polaroid.
“It is. The way Connie's looking at her, oof.” Jeremiah nods cutely, his golden brown curls swishing across his forehead.
“I know right? This is exactly what they call The Look Of Love.”
“Okay you goofs, that belongs to us.” Conrad takes the polaroid back from your sister and Jeremiah, “by the way, I heard Skye asking Cam that they are confused as to what they should watch at the next Disney movie night, Tangled Or Frozen?”
“Frozen obviously, there's no way I'm watching Tangled again!” Jeremiah crosses his arms across his chest.
“How dare you? I'm going to tell Skye that we are watching Tangled!” Your sister glares at Jeremiah and then stomps off to find Syke and Cam.
“Oh no, you don't!” Jere follows her.
Conrad gives you the photograph, his hand closing around yours as he pulls you closer to himself and you gasp softly from the sudden proximity.
“Should we head out to get some fresh air?” He asks, handing you one of the beers.
“Yeah, fresh air sounds great!” You smile.
Your hand entwined with Conrad's, you both walk out to the pool area and sit side by side, dipping your feet in water. The party rages on inside and while you enjoyed it immensely, it's nice to take a break and listen to your thoughts again. Nostalgia of every summer that you've spent here ever since moving to Cousins when you were kids washes over you and you blink back tears, Conrad wraps an arm around you, pulling you closer and you rest your head on his shoulder.
“I miss Susannah.”
“Me too.”
“Remember when she threw us a welcome party?” You look up at Conrad, smiling and his lips curl upwards in a smile at the memory.
“You mean the party where you tried to convince us that pizza tastes better with peanut butter on top?” He mimes barfing.
“Hey, that was one time! Besides, you were the very first one to try it out.” You hit him playfully in the chest, laughing.
“Yeah well, maybe because I've never been able to say no to you, also your puppy eyes are deadly!” Conrad looks down at you adoringly, his blue eyes soft as he tucks a lock of hair behind your ear.
You blush, looking down at your lap and then look back at him again.
“God, you're so beautiful.” Conrad whispers as he cups your face, his thumb gently caressing your cheek, moonlight washing over you both and you close your eyes, giving into the warmth of his touch.
“That day at the pool, you said that my eyes are the most beautiful shade of blue you've ever seen and that you want to get lost in them. What if I say that every time I look into your eyes, I'm unable to look anywhere else, I'm lost in your beautiful eyes. What if I say that every time I look at you, my heart feels as if it'd beat out of my chest. What if I say that every time when you walk in through the door, all I want to do is take you in my arms, kiss you and tell you how incredibly lucky I am to have you in my life and that everytime you leave after summer's over, a piece of my heart goes with you.”
“Connie..” You speak, your heart beating a mile per minute.
“If I don't tell you how I feel tonight, I might never have the chance to do so. I love you, most ardently, I am in love with you and I never wish to be parted from you from this day on.” Conrad says, looking into your eyes, holding both of your hands in his and tears pool your eyes realizing that he just quoted your most favourite, timeless declaration of love from your most favourite book.
You remember talking his ear off about your love for Pride and Prejudice, about Elizabeth and Darcy being the OG enemies to lovers during the long summer afternoons when you both would be relaxing by the poolside with chilled glasses of lemonade, sometimes you would read to him too and Conrad had gifted you a hardcover edition of Pride and Prejudice with illustrations on your birthday.
It's one of your most special gifts and one of your most prized possessions till date.
You take a deep, calming breath, ready to bare your heart to him as well.
“My life has never been the same ever since I walked up to your front door with cookies and you answered the door with your serene blue eyes and your warm smile that reached up to them, the way my heart skips a beat when you hold me close everytime we watch horror movies, the way I want to kiss you everytime you get chocolate on your nose from your favorite donuts and everytime I leave after summer's over, a piece of my heart stays with you. I love you, I love you too, Conrad Fisher.”
You both look into each other's eyes for a few moments letting the words, the feelings sink in, before inching closer. When his lips touch yours, you melt into him, your arms wrapping around his shoulders while his wrap around your waist pulling you closer. The kiss is soft, sweet, full of promises and you both part with a sigh before Conrad kisses you again, a little passionate this time.
“I love you Connie.”
“I love you more.”
“So boyfriend, should we head inside? I wanna dance and would love do so with your arms around me.” You ask, pressing a kiss to his lips before getting up and pulling him up as well.
“Would love to girlfriend, just give me a few more minutes because I'm not done kissing you yet.” Conrad smiles before leaning in to kiss you again.

With marine heat waves of varying severity identified in Australian waters over the summer, a new study of a remote coral reef in the north-west has found that they can recover from bleaching events caused by heat waves, and other disturbances, as long as there is enough time. The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS)-led research was based on data gathered over the course of 30 years at the remote Scott Reefs, located between north-west WA and Indonesia. It covered periods of disturbances including intense cyclones and mass bleaching in 2016 and 2017 caused by warm ocean temperatures. The study found cycles of collapse and recovery, during which coral numbers crashed and then slowly regenerated.

There is not going to be a happy ending.
This isn't a Mission: Impossible movie. I'd be happy to be proven wrong. It would be the grace of the universe to be proven wrong. One of the reasons I liked 'Rogue One' so much is that it was honest. Everyone died, there was no happy ending, the leads didn't ride off into the sunset, they never knew if their plan succeeded. It was so fucking honest that people hated it.
Here's the latest:
Searching the area where the banging noises were estimated to be "yielded negative results."
The thing is that nobody knows what noises are native to the area. It could be survivors, it could be a loose piece of the Titanic's wreckage banging in the current. ROV equipment has been sent in and data shared so that it can be used in future search plans.
"We don't know what they are," Capt. Jamie Frederick, the response coordinator for the First Coast Guard District, said of the noises.
If they have all this equipment, all the personnel, all the resources and can't find the source of the banging, that's all folks. There is less than 24 hours of air in there, the noises have not been repeated. If they are alive at all, if the sub is not the size of a basketball on the bottom of the ocean, the search and rescue will shortly transition to recovery.
From CNN about 1:00 ET:
There will be a total 10 surface assets in the next 24-48 hours.
There are two ROVs actively searching.
Several more are en route and will arrive by tomorrow morning.
There are two back-to-back P-3 flights — one is ongoing — which provides a total of 14 hours of continuous on-scene coverage.
Two C-130 flights — one ongoing now — through the day and into the evening.
Five assets are currently searching an area twice the size of Connecticut.
Connecticut is 5,018 miles in area.
The assets that arrive Thursday and Friday morning are going to be recovery, not rescue.
No heat, no backup systems for power or air, no communication, in the pitch-black dark, limited food and water, running out of air, breathing in the odor of shit and piss from the bucket toilet, the stink of unwashed bodies and fear-sweat.
Or.
A catastrophic implosion happened an hour and forty-five minutes into the dive and they have been dead since around 9:00 Sunday morning.
No happy endings, folks. Only horrible or less horrible.

Since this ask is a little specific, I'll let you choose the characters. Basically, the characters of your choosing with a winx fairy reader. If you don't want to do it, you don't have to.
I don't mind! However I haven't watched the Winch series in a very long time so if these aren't exactly like them I apologize! I hope you enjoy and thank you so much for your request!
P.s. This was so nostalgic for me, I remember watching Winx alot growing up and even having like my first set of ships between the fairies and their significant others 😋
─⊰⊹ฺ🍂𝔾𝕖𝕟𝕤𝕙𝕚𝕟 ℍ𝕖𝕒𝕕𝕔𝕒𝕟𝕠𝕟𝕤⊰⊹ฺ🍂
{༻~Winx~༺}
CW: Fluffy! Made the reader have a different fairy magic include as many as I could! (Pet names: Lyney: Mon amour,
(Includes: Lyney, Tighnari, Xiao, and Freminet!)
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
𑁍༄Lyney: <Fairy of light>
"Lyney...are you alright? I know this isn't what you were expecting.." You chuckled nervously, feeling your face heat up as he stared at you wide eyed, watching your dazzling wings sparkle in the sunlight, it was a lot to process to say the least. "You're...a fairy? Like what you read in books? You'd think being a magician I'd be better at handling things others don't normally understand, but I must say...this is definitely throwing me for a loop."
"Well to be more accurate, i'm a light fairy. I can use light magic...I also have a more optimistic personality." His gaze started to make you shy, suddenly you regretted showing him...what if he couldn't accept it.
"A light fairy, you know that suits you. You do radiate a type of light, I noticed that even before you showed me your wings. In a sense, you're a true being of optimism....that's beautiful. Mon amour, may I ask a few more questions?"
𑁍༄Tighnari: <Fairy of nature>
"Does being a nature fairy mean you are naturally more gifted with plants and animals?" Tighnari sat in the bright green grass, watching you with dazed eyes that constantly flicked to your wings. He'd asked so many questions, if you were born a fairy, were your parents fairies, did you know others like you, but he still able to actually wrap his head around your secret.
"I think I'm pretty good with plants, they certainly grow nicer when I'm around and I have control over some...as for animals..I mean I was able to start dating you fox boy~" You giggled teasingly, trying to loosen him back up to his usual self..hoping you hadn't just absolutely shocked him to the point of no recovery.
Thankfully your words helped, "I'm fennec fox boy thank you very much. If you're going to call me a furry at least be specific."
𑁍༄Xiao: <Fairy of music>
"Is that why...your music is soothing to everyone? Why you're able to convey so much emotion in your songs?" Xiaos hand was gently holding yours as the two of you swayed your feet off the edge of the Wangshu Inn railings, watching the night sky with your wings finally out in full view..your true self exposed for him to see.
"I'm not really sure if that's why...all I know is, I have a deep connection with music. I can feel what every note means, hear songs of joy, sorrow...any emotion clearly just through the melody. When I make music...I try to put that into it, make it so everyone else can hear it as well as I can... especially you."
"I can...it makes me feel calm. Thank you for that."
𑁍༄Freminet: <Fairy of waves>
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
"You're a fairy of waves? Like...one with the o-ocean?" Freminet looked away from you, the blush on his face steadily growing darker everytime he caught glimpse of your wings...of you. It was like he saw you in a whole new light, his love for the ocean...for water itself and now you were apart of that as well. It was like a dream he didn't know he wanted to come true...had just done so. You were undeniably the most perfect fit for him now.
"One with the ocean...I don't know if I could say that entirely...but I do know that..the second I met you I could tell you understood how the sea felt. That you were like me when it came to it's waters and the creatures within, I was hoping that finding out my secret...wouldn't be to shocking that you'd no longer want to spend time with me."
"A-all I want to do is spend time with you. We should g-go diving together, talk about everything the ocean has to offer...I want to know more about you. T-to relearn everything a-about the one i-i...l-love."
ଘ(੭*ˊᵕˋ)੭* ੈ♡‧₊˚~Have a nice day~*.✧

Dark Blue Moon and the Suffering Sun Part 7
reblog and comment plz <3 i read every one of them and love them all
also here's the masterpost
Damian knew Phantom used echolocation to locate this ravine in the first place, but the question was whether Damian could try the same thing. Damian hugged the walls of the cliff face, keeping his body flush against the surface, and lurking around corners and behind obstacles. The coast was clear.
Clearing his throat, he let out a high-pitched click, projecting it as far as his voice could carry. Immediately, his sensitive ears picked up the echoes coming back in layers. While the sound he sent was singular, the echoes came back in staggered waves, with layers of different pitches and tones and brief silent spells over the course of a millisecond.
This echolocation was useless!
Damian weighed his options. He could approach the surface, but there was no telling if Skulker had a vessel nearby where he could lick his wounds. The worst thing he could do was just hand himself on a silver platter to the creep. On the other hand, he doubted a flashlight would be very useful at the very depths of the ocean.
He still had to try.
Damian’s backside tingled with a light pressure, a feeling he’d come to associate with his lateral line. He armed the wrist ray on his left hand, and grabbed the Anti-Creep Stick with the other. Scanning the ravine revealed no other sirens or fish, but a slight stirring caught his eye.
Damian squinted at the crevice on the opposite side of the bark, not quite sure of what he was supposed to be looking at, until his nose caught the smell. There was definitely something there, but it didn’t smell like another siren the way Phantom and the teenage girls did.
An octopus then?
Octopodes were intelligent creatures, beautiful examples of the ocean’s biodiversity.
But Phantom needed sustenance, and he couldn’t afford for Damian to be picky. However, he put away the bat regardless. He wasn’t so cruel as to bash its head in to death. No, he would make it quick.
Damian unsheathed his claws, and coiled up his tail. Hopefully it wasn’t one of the poisonous varieties. He truly did not want to test Phantom’s immunities at the moment. Like a tiger waiting to leap, Damian kept his body still, and scrutinised the rock for the slightest deviation in colour…
There! Damian pounced. The octopus’s colour returned to its natural yellow pallor. His hands wrapped around its bulbous head. Score! Now to kill it. Sorry octopus, your sacrifice will not be in vain.
However, the mollusk was not about to give up without a fight. Suckered tentacles slapped at Damian’s face. The slimy skin of its head allowed it to slip out of its grasp. As Damian went to activate the wrist ray, a cloud of ink spurted right into his face, and he lost track of it.
Dammit! Damian let out some uncouth words under his breath, and banged his hand on the rock.
Hunting for food was difficult. Theoretically it should’ve been simple. Find something edible, kill it, bring it back, but everything Damian found was either too small to be worth the effort, or too big to risk his life. Multiple times Damian was forced to dive around corners or into claustrophobic cracks as ocean behemoths crossed his path. He couldn’t even find a patch of seaweed or algae this deep into the trench.
He was running out of options as the sun began to set above. Damian was starving himself, and it was getting frustrating. His body was not adapted to thrive in these waters, or maybe it was, and he just didn’t know how.
Either way, the exhaustion of the hunt began to take its toll on him. Far from providing for Phantom’s recovery, he had only wasted his own energy for nothing. Each failed kill, each accumulated bruise left him more and more anxious. That was why when he spotted a lone anglerfish creeping up from the depths, Damian decided to challenge it.
She, for male anglerfish were absolutely tiny satellites to the females, drifted into the twilight zone where Damian caught sight of her. She was almost half his size, and her teeth seemed as big as his fingers Her lure glowed brightly against the darkness of the deep ocean, as little fish wandered closer to the ‘sun’ and got chomped for their troubles. She was truly beautiful.
Hiding behind a small shelf, Damian aimed the wrist ray. The gills should allow him to subdue her quickly. Then securing the kill should be easy.
Damian waited. Just a little closer…
Then he fired.
The light of the shot was almost blinding. When the glare faded, Damian saw not a dead anglerfish, but a very much alive one dashing away. No! Damian sprung into a sprint after her. This may well be his last chance to get anything edible. He had to give chase.
Thankfully he’d gotten a lot of practice the last few others. As the anglerfish tried to round a corner, Damian grabbed its tailfin with his claws, digging in to try and slow it down.
Instead, the angler swerved to the side. Its powerful muscles slammed Damian against the rocky wall. Damian cried out in pain, and his grip loosened enough for the angler to get away.
Damian groaned. Not another one.
Damian lay there, dizzy from pain and exhaustion, watching morosely as the scraped scales healed themselves before his eyes, taking up valuable energy that he did not have to spare. Night fell. Without light, the next few quarries would be even more difficult, if not impossible. What he would do for Alfred’s cooking right about now. He would never make trouble at the dinner table again, if he ever got out of this alive.
His lateral line spiked up again, but Damian just felt tired. Sighing, he readied himself for another beating. How the might have fallen…
He noticed a beam of light shining from around a corner. Hushed voices followed. They were speaking Atlantean! Damian’s heart soared. He didn’t know they were this close to Aquaman’s territory! He knew there were a small number of settlements in the Pacific, but he never expected to stumble into one of them!
“Over here, I require assistance!” He called out.
The whispers rose into rushed conversation he couldn’t make out. Soon he found a light being shined on him, and two Atlantean soldiers, a man and a woman, pointing their spears at him. What?
“State your business here, siren.”  The venom in the woman’s voice was palpable. Belatedly, Damian realised it was hasty of him to assume good relations between the two ocean peoples. However, this was his last shot.
“Please, my companion is injured and requires medical assistance. I swear on my name that we do not mean you harm.” Damian pleaded, with complete earnestness. He even added a whimper at the end to make himself look more vulnerable, more childlike and unthreatening, even if it was beneath him.
The man laughed. “Hah! I’ve heard that one before, punk. But if you think you’re gonna pull one over us easily, you’re shit outa luck. Your kind’s not welcome in these waters, now scram.”
Damian’s mouth gaped open. Did these people have not the slightest compassion? He often criticised his father’s habit of picking up strays, but deep down he knew that that trait was a quality of his character, and not a flaw. These Atlanteans could not even be bothered to spare him a glance outside of telling him to leave. Their eyes did not hold compassion, or sympathy, or even pity, only hardened wariness, and contempt.
“Please, I beg of you.”
The soldiers bared their spears at him. “I said scram, siren! Go back to your pod and stay there.”
Damian gave them his best glare as he turned tail and swam.
Only, he stopped once he turned a corner, but was still in earshot.
“Damn sirens, sinking to new lows. What next, a baby?” The male soldier muttered, his voice trailing off as the two returned to their patrol.
Patrolling soldiers meant an outpost, maybe even a settlement. And that meant food, medical supplies, and weapons. Damian knew a golden opportunity when he saw one. If these miscreants would not grant him the aid requested, then who was Damian to decide he didn’t need permission?
And so Damian stalked them closely. He trailed behind the duo of soldiers a dozen or so metres away, using his lateral line and nose to keep close track of their movements. A sense of calm quelled the ever present instinctual fear of being out in the open, as the familiarity of stalking targets washed over him. He almost didn’t have to try, with how terrible their situational awareness. If he were in king of the ocean’s shoes, he’d be very disappointed with his underlings’ performance.
Perhaps he’d have to snitch on them to Aquaman once this was all over. That would be suitable revenge.
The soldiers unwittingly guided him through the ravine, finally ascending. Above the cliff shelf, about two hundred metres away, stood an Atlantean settlement. Looks like he managed to catch them at the end of their route. Excellent.
Damian estimated the town’s circumference to be around ten kilometres, judging by parallax. He could just spot scores of Atlanteans going about their day, kicking their legs about to swim in a way that seemed so clumsy after seeing Phantom zip through the waves. The buildings stretched out from the flat sandy planes to jutting out from the sides of cliffs.
What was more important was the fields. Huge fields full of leafy plants he had never seen before. Along the cliff face, vines weaved between stone supports bearing strange fruits.
Damian grinned.
Now, all he needed to do was infiltrate.

I see you’ve got requests open and your Mermaid AU has me hooked 👀 Could you write about Mer!VashOr Mer!Knives with an s/o that’s part human (whatever the other part is can be up to you :})? literally go nuts with this request tbh-
Oml yesss!!! Also I have to stay true to my mermaidness, so reader is gonna be half-mermaid!
So reader essentially is human appearance, but with colourful webbed fingers and feet to help swim, and when they're in the water gills will open on their necks. This is how Mer!Vash and Mer!Knives children would look like in their respective lil headcanons (not saying that reader is their children, let this be separate from those ones xD)
TW: none really, just mating bites, a little suggestive in Vash's :3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You were a bizarre sight, unlike the other humans who overlooked him and his brother. You had a kind of aura that intrigued Knives, that seemed oddly familiar as you went about your work, following Rem as you assisted her in regards to the brother's.
The moment you revealed what you actually were, as Knives dragged your unaware body into the freezing depths, pausing as gills opened along your neck.
Curious chirps sounded as Knives squinted at you, flipping you this way and that as he studied your now prominent mermaid features.
You were patient, laughing as the usually aggressive mermaid circled you, poked and prodded you in his confusion. Not to mention Rem had made no effort to help you, the woman remaining at the observation pools edge.
When his own webbed hands grabbed your webbed hand, Knives huffed. Boredly swimming away, he made his presence scarce around you since then.
It wasn't until weeks later, being informed the news of a severely injured Knives who got into a scuffle with another of his species, defending Vash who 'stole' a prized shell, that you had to look after him.
No one else was allowed in the recovery tank, Rem tried at times but Knives' aggression was too much for her this time, and she didn't want another oxygen tank exploding within the tank and shattering it. That's where you came in.
Entering the tank, you slowly approached the injured Knives, flinching at his high-pitched shriek. It wasn't until you replied with your own did he simmer down, reluctantly allowing you to treat his wounds.
This continued on for a couple weeks and each visit resulted in Knives slowly looking forward to your visits, so much so he'd curl around you while you just kept him company, updating him on his worried brother.
The moment he could return to the ocean, Knives missed you already, knowing you couldn't visit as often now that he's recovered. So he gives himself minor injuries, pathetic scrapes, or even purposely slapping a sea urchin or two onto his tail and presenting it to you with no evidence of it hurting.
Rem was quick to catch on, offering you longer breaks to be with Knives so he'd stop injuring himself no matter how minor the wound was it was making other employees wary whenever he appeared. And Knives couldn't be more happy when Vash dragged him away from a toxic jellyfish to you, instantly having the larger twin latch onto you with excited chirps and purrs.
Eventually Knives and you marked each other, sealing your mateship as he nuzzled contently into you, purring non-stop while you combed his hair.
Tumblr media
Vash tends to wander, his favourite place is a large reef just a few kilometres from the observatory, where he collects shells, avoids getting into fights with other mermaids and just harasses the local fish.
That's where he bumped into you, literally. You were diving along with some close friends, friends that knew what you were and made sure to keep you safe. So you can imagine their surprise when a curious mermaid collided into you chasing a parrot fish.
Vash startled very quickly, hiding between some coral when he realised the group was staring at him, you were rather curious going to follow only to stop when Meryl stopped you. She signed it probably wasn't a good idea, but you at least wanted to apologise for startling him.
Approaching his hiding place, you gained his attention by sliding an iridescent shell between the spines of coral, to which the quivering mermaid chirped, revealing himself as he studied the gift. You gained Vash's attention, frowning as you chirped back at him, broken merfolk language in form of an apology.
You were very inexperienced with your father's tongue, but you knew enough to form small conversations.
The look Vash gave you was full of astonishment, eyes sparkling as his lips formed a massive smile. Placing his shell into his seaweed satchel, Vash spun you around, tugging you upside as he admired your legs. You yelped when he innocently spread your legs, trying to communicate how inappropriate it was, only this new friend didn't listen. Not until your closest friend, Wolfwood stepped in.
The overly friendly mermaid screeched at the burly man putting him in a headlock, signing if you were okay. Of course you were, just startled this curious creature was so forward.
Asking Nicholas to free the distressed mermaid, he obliged yelling as Vash hid behind you, rapid chirps and shrill clicks shot his way. You knew they were a lecture of sorts, with some colourful language that made you snort, but that's how Vash made a friend of you.
You frequented the reef often, as it was home to your father before he was poached, now the reef was under protection of the observatory a little further out. So you often visited Vash, allowing him to appropriately admired your legs and any other features he took interest in.
He'd bring you colourful shells and pearls as gifts, whereas you'd bring him either food or items he'd be allowed to keep in the ocean. It became a small tradition, one that lead to Vash making a bold move on his part.
It was another day that your friends took you for a dive, also befriending the blonde mermaid. It wasn't until you entered the water, instantly seeing Vash making a beeline for you. You were happy to see him, yelping as he collided with you, growling the moment his fangs sunk into your shoulder.
Your friends had never seen you be aggressive, not in your mermaid half way at least. When your eyes slitted, teeth forming sharp points as you screeched at the mermaid, causing Vash to return the sudden aggression as he felt justified in his actions.
Nicholas and Meryl tried separating you two, but when you surged forward sinking your own teeth a little too painfully into Vash's neck. Only then did the two settle, Vash's annoyed pouting and clicks turning into happy wiggles and nibbles of your flesh.
You still held a small grudge to being marked without warning, not that you opposed the idea, a heads up would've been nice. Now you endured endless teasing from Nicholas, proudly showing your other friends Vash's mating mark with no shame.
