i saw this reddit post, which was talking about debbie and matty, and for once, i agree with a reddit post/i think what the person said was incredibly interesting, so i’m going to talk about it.

so, if you’re not going to read it, the post basically talks about how what debbie did was wrong, but matty was also a huge creep for having any sort of relationship with debbie anyways, and at the end, it says, “After knowing she was 13, she also texted him nudes, he replied back come over, and she spent the night and they cuddled CREEP he was probably conscious and acted like he was blacked out ok this might be a stretch but still a creep”.

let’s unpack this, because something i’ve never talked about is the nudes. a lot of people argue that matty didn’t want it, yet he said COME OVER after debbie (13) sent him her nudes. and they slept in the same bed (pre-5x03), and he called her sexy and blah blah blah.

however the most intriguing thing in this post to me is “he was probably conscious and acted like he was blacked out ok this might be a stretch but still a creep”. i don’t know how to feel about this, but i think it’s an interesting thought. i mean, debbie thought he was conscious. she said she “didn’t know” and that he was erect, which to her, meant consenting (and i get that him being erect doesn’t really mean shit because he was wasted, but let’s think from the perspective of 13/14, uneducated, virgin debbie gallagher).

also, may i add, by rape laws, they were both raped. another person on reddit also says this. and another good example of this scenario is the karen and frank situation which was relevant in seasons 1 and 2. i wrote about karen and debbie’s similarities here, and i discuss that in it a lot.but anyway, frank got arrested for the rape, despite karen being the one to do it, and despite frank being intoxicated. was frank raped? absolutely. but was karen underage? yup. matty even says this, “you statutory raped yourself!”

it’s just like… no, debbie shouldn’t have done that. yes, she is a rapist (and awknoleges this in 11x11! stop acting like she doesn’t!). and yes, she was wrong, so so wrong. but you can’t act like it makes no sense why she would do that or like she did it on purpose to fuck him over or some shit.

oh wanna know another thing about that situation i find creepy? the fact that he went on to talk to holly and ellie and like, everyone that he knew debbie knew, and told them about it. why was he, a 20 (maybe even a 21) year old, talking to 13/14 year olds and telling them like fucking gossip? it’s just so weird that not only did he lead her on and tell her that if anyone found out about it he could be in serious trouble, but then continued to spread the knowledge. like, he couldn’t tell the police because he could get arrested and get years in prison, so he decides to instead spread the news to a bunch of teenagers? wtf?

There’s that post that’s like ‘everyone should get into a tiny niche fandom at least once’ fully agree, that was really fun -- but I would like to add that everyone should get into a fandom where their opinions run counter to major fanon because it really teaches you about sticking to your guns and trusting your interpretation of the text without having to rely on peer validation

Happy Halloween! I'm really excited to be finally launching* what is maybe one of my most ambitious, largest work yet. This online library is the next phase of a research project that began in May 2020, when I first mused on how comics as a field doesn't have a resource that catalogues devices used in the medium. Like, theatre has devices, so does literature, and film! So why shouldn't comics? I always had an interest in comics studies and analysis. I love reading, making and thinking comics. However most of my knowledge was intuitive - I learned comics from osmosis and experience. This is true for many of my peers. Speaking about comics as a creator is hard, because we don't have a robust system of language. When we had to speak, many of us tend to reach for the language developed for film by film practitioners. If there is language specific to comics, it's either scattered in multiple blogs or hidden away in academic journals. The Comics Devices library is meant to aggregate everything and everybody into a single hub! After exploring some multiple resources, alongside some original, independent research, here is the first edition! * The Comics Devices project is still a work-in-progress! It's not final, nor will it ever be. This is why I am seeking contributors to help build this library. Translations, comics examples, etc. There is a lot of work to do! Steve tries to stay quiet while he gets ready for work, but Eddie hears him. He keeps his eyes closed and just listens- to Steve grumbling to himself when his hair doesn’t sit quite right, who starts to hum and whisper some catchy song. Eddie turns his sleepy gaze onto Steve as he shuffles around their room- watching quietly as he slips on his clothes, his shoes, a simple chain with Eddie’s ring around his neck. A warm, affectionate smile breaks across his face. Before he leaves, Steve glances at what he expects to be a sleeping Eddie, but instead, he’s met with a rasped, ‘Hey.’ Eddie sits himself up, stretches his arm across Steve’s side of the bed, and reaches, fingers wiggling. Steve crosses the room to cradle his face.

Their foreheads press, noses bump, and Steve brushes his fingers across scars and dimples.

He breathes a quiet,

‘Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.’

Eddie huffs a tired laugh,

‘You know I never mind.’

Because, yeah.

Every morning Steve tries to stay quiet while he gets ready for work, but Eddie always hears him.

Grown Apart AU - Musical Style ✨

What is This Feeling from Wicked pretty perfectly encapsulates GA Donnie and Leo's first impressions of each other, so the musical nerd within me couldn't resist doing this (lol).

Context within the plot: After saving Mikey's life (by total coincidence), Donnie manages to infiltrate the Hamato residence as a spy, planning to capture the oozesquitos and hand them over to Big Mama, thus gaining her favor. Leo, however, sees through his act easily and has been keeping an eye on him since he arrived. Due to circumstances outside of their control - i.e. Splinter's decision - the two of them are forced to share a room with each other, which neither party is particularly thrilled about.

what if gaster in a future chapter calls out the audience for speculating so much about him. the guy canonically has some amount of access to Real Life Social Media. like i started this mostly as a joke but there are definitely some real metanarrative opportunities for a character with recklessly curious impulses, and possibly a fragile sense of self, having nearly limitless access to streams of debate over whether or not he’s a bastard. rude to talk about someone who’s listening etc

#this is very fast and loose character reading on my part but i do get the sense sometimes #that gaster may be asking some of the same questions of himself that we are of him. #’who are you? how should i feel about you? should i sympathize with you or be disgusted by you?’ #i said ‘call out’ in the post but i don’t even necessarily think this is a matter of anger #so much as sincere confusion and ego-shattering overwhelm #a character so wrung out by the mechanisms of audience interpretation that even he has no idea who he is anymore #and he’s looking at ​the audience who looked so hard for him and spent so much energy tearing him apart for clues or answers #and saying ‘you want to know what i am. but you seem to know that better than i do. please tell me. tell me what you think.’ #’because i want to know just as much as you do.’ #…anyway this is not real speculation. just rambling on an idea i think would be cool lol #$ waltz of a shattered man

Idk but it's kind of sad that adult books/stories with aspec characters aren't really a thing (MCs or at least important side characters). It's always YA stuff and I really don't want to read books written for 12-18 year olds because I'm old and grumpy and can't relate to their experiences, lol.
