Aprons dusted with flour, icing sugar smeared on alabaster cheeks. Fingers dipped into batter, a gentle hand batting them away. Exasperated sighs of they’re not ready just yet, but uttered with a kind smile. Taste this, do you like it? Blooming yeast in a warm kitchen, the scent of fresh baked bread. Ripe summer peaches ready for the pie, the crust perfectly golden brown. Rich dirt under fingernails, thorn torn calloused skin. Clippings of red and pink roses lining the hallways, brightening up even the darkest of shadows. Fragrant summer lilacs, bees pollinating peonies. Bouquets to say I Love You, Thank You, I’m Thinking of You, delivered across Velaris. Installations of sprawling gardens, delighting young and old. Feeding stray kittens, finding them a loving home. Secret rendezvous, a blossoming forbidden love. I missed you, even when they hadn’t been apart. The necessity of secrecy only heightening passion. Late night cuddles with a restless toddler. Sweet lullaby’s hummed off key in the calming darkness of night. Trialling recipes of mashed pumpkin and pear and custard to find a favourite. Whispered gossip with wraiths, confidences shared amongst the trio but never further. Hours long chess matches against the High Lord, a gambit of magical mental powers. The bonds of sisterhood, strengthened through hardship and loss. A life not planned, but all the sweeter for it.

A Helping Hand
Tumblr media
Pairing: Reader x Bat Boys
Summary: Even most powerful males in Prythian need relationship advice from their best friend.
Warnings: males bein males about females (but theyre well meaning), brief mentions of sexual encounters, crack & friendship fluff!!
Word Count: 3.3k
✹ ✶ 𖧷 ✶✹
There was one thing about Cassian that you’d come to know over the centuries you’d been friends: the male could talk.
He was on a new tangent now, describing the details of a strange dream he’d had a few days prior, casually laying across the couch with his feet propped up on the arm rests. How his wings weren’t uncomfortable being smushed underneath him and the couch cushions, you weren’t sure, but you weren’t about to ask and risk another hour long explanation of how nothing phases him because he's “just that male.”
“And the princess next to him looked exactly like Az-”
You let out a groan, pushing yourself to sit upright from your current slouched position, staring at Cassian with a confused expression. “Cass,” you said, “What the hell are you talking about?”
He stopped mid sentence, turning to look at you with an open mouth and a blank stare. “My dream. Were you not listening?”
You gave him a look. “No.”
He frowned. “Well, that's rude. I listen to all of your dreams.”
“No, you don’t.”
He stilled for a moment, holding your stare, and then a giant grin broke out on his face. “Ah, you got me. I don’t.”
You let out a small snort before shaking your head and taking another deep breath. “Can we get back to why you needed to talk to me in the first place?”
Cassian’s face lit up in acknowledgement, and then he was readjusting himself to a proper sitting position, leaning forward with his hands on his knees. “Right, okay. I need your expertise on matters of the heart."
You narrowed your eyes at him in suspicion. “Okay…”
"Alright, so you know that female I’ve been with?"
You raised your eyebrows. “You have to be more specific than that.”
He stilled for a moment, pursing his lips in thought. Then he grinned, “The one who I said tasted like honey?”
You grimaced at his description. But Cass didn’t notice as he continued, “She’s super pretty. Real nice too, she gave you those little treats, remember?”
You thought back to the previous weeks, faintly remembering running into a female in the kitchen. You were still hungover from the night prior, so you didn’t remember much about the small conversation you’d held with her, but you did remember those treats— and the way she stared at Cassian longingly.
“I remember,” you finally said. “What about her?”
“I like her. I think she’s really cool. So, I want to do something to impress her, maybe ask her out for real.”
You smiled at him, a small, gentle, upside down smile that formed a small pout as you said, “Aw, Cass, you softie.”
The male in front of you grinned again, offering you a small shrug. “What can I say, I’m pussy-whipped.”
Your smile fell and you rolled your eyes. Well, that moment was nice while it lasted. You took a deep breath before leaning forward more, matching Cassian’s posture.
"She really liked you, so I don’t think you can go wrong. Just do what feels right.”
Cassian’s grin grew as he nodded his head in contemplation.  "Alright,” he said, “Hear me out. I'm thinking of making a grand gesture outside her apartment, something to really show her how I feel."
You nodded, intrigued. "Okay, go on."
"And get this," He leaned in closer, a childlike glee in his voice as he continued, "I'll do it butt-ass naked, with a ribbon tied around my—"
Your hand shot up in front of you, a single finger pointed to cut him off mid-sentence. A deep sigh escaped you as you brought the hand to your face and pinched the bridge of your nose.
"So, I stand corrected,” you said with a disappointed nod. “You can go wrong."
Cassian's expression faltered, confusion evident in his features as he frowned.  "What? You just told me—"
"Yeah, that was before you said that terrible idea," you interrupted, shaking your head in disbelief. "Don't do that. Do anything but that."
He sat up straighter, his lips slightly upturned now, a glint in his eyes. "Anything?"
You paused, remembering your earlier encouragement. Then you let out a deep sound of frustration.  "Dude, just get her some flowers."
"But that's so boring,” he whined, “Like, Rhys boring. I gotta go big or go home, you know?"
You let out a groan at the ceiling, letting yourself fall back into the couch with an exasperated flare of your hands. "At this rate, please go home. I'm begging you."
But then, just as Cassian was about to let himself fall back into the couch, a mischievous grin spread across his face. "I've got an idea,” he said, quickly jumping off the couch.
He stopped midway, turning around to walk over to you in a few quick strides. He leaned down, managing to plant a quick kiss on your cheek before running away again.
“Thanks, Y/n. Love you!”
✹ ✶ 𖧷 ✶✹
It was a quiet morning in the townhouse, gentle rays of sun shining through the opened kitchen window. You rubbed your tired eyes as you looked outside, waiting for the remnants of your sleep to disappear with the new day. Your hands held onto the small apple in your grasp, running your fingers along the fruit as you stared outside. With a small hum of contentment, you turned around to head back to your room.
You bumped into a large mass as you turned around, a dark figure shrouded in shadows as it stood still before you.
“Holy fuck!”
The apple fell from your hands as you jumped back, eyes blinking rapidly as Azriel’s presence registered before you, a small amused smile on his face. You let out a deep breath, hands flying to your heavily beating heart. You glared at him, your gaze quickly flickering down to your waist, where a small black mass floated around your apple— suspended in mid air as it was caught during its fall.
You quickly snatched the apple back, watching as the shadows happily trailed back to Azriel, their black forms settling behind his back and above his shoulders. You brought your glare back to Azriel’s face.
He did this to you often, quieting the sound of hit footsteps with his shadows to make his entrances stealthy and unnoticed. It never got old to him, how often you’d get caught off guard and send a glare his way, usually accompanied by a string of curses he’d never heard put together.
“Footsteps make noise for a reason, Az,” you grumbled, “So you don’t make your loved ones shit their pants.”
His eyebrows raised slightly, and you didn’t miss the movement of a lone tendril moving towards you— you lightly swatted it away, redirecting it like a small, curious puppy.
“I didn’t mean literally, you ass.”
Azriel only grinned in response, a small laugh leaving his lips. “It just never gets old.”
His hair was slightly tousled, messy across his forehead. He wore a simple black shirt and sweatpants, a casual, lazy look that he often adorned on quiet, slow, mornings like these— this version of Az, laid-back and comfortable, was one solely reserved for the townhouse, and only for you and your family.
“Whatever,” you rolled your eyes at him. “What do you want?”
Az frowned slightly. “Good Morning to you, too, I guess.”
“It was a good morning, until you disrupted my peace. What do you want?”
Azriel’s face held a mischievous smile as he shrugged. “Why do you think I want something?”
You narrowed your eyes at him. “Because I know you. And you’re wearing your I need a favor face.”
He scowled at this, letting out a small sound of offense. “That's not a real thing.”
“Yes, it is.”
“No,” he protested again, “I don’t have faces. This is just my face.”
“Az,” you groaned. “Get to the point please. What do you want?”
He let out a sigh of defeat before he shifted on his feet. “Fine, I need your he-”
You pointed an excited finger in his face. “Aha,” you said loudly, “I knew you needed something!”
Yet again, he scowled at this, lightly knocking your finger out of his face with his palm. He gave you a flat look.
“Ow.”
“Can I speak now?”
You held your hands up in resignation, finally bringing the apple to your mouth as you took a small bite.
“Pierla won’t leave me alone.”
You frowned at him, brows furrowing slightly. “Who?”
Somehow, Azriel’s face fell even flatter, and he stared at you with an unammused look. “Y/n,” he said, almost scolding you with an exasperated tone.
“What?” you said. “I’m sorry I don’t keep track of every female you guys bed. My fault.”
He rolled his eyes, and you resisted the urge to either scoff in disbelief or mimic his movements. Sure, laid-back and comfortable Azriel was reserved for the townhouse and morning like this, but so was sassy Azriel and his impatience as well. You preferred the first— and only the second when it was directed at anyone but you.
“I slept with her like five days ago.”
“Okay,” you drawled, “And now she won’t leave you alone.”
He nodded, letting out a small sigh.
You stared at him, brows still furrowed, a frown now on your face that crinkled your nose. “Well that sucks.”
He stared at you again, the same flat and unamused look on his face. A flicker of irritation ran through his hazel eyes. “Y/n.”
You lifted your hands up in exasperation, the apple still held in one hand, adorned by the lone bite you’d been granted to take. “What?” you responded, “The hell am I supposed to do about that? That’s a pp.”
“A pp?”
You pursed your lips, preparing yourself to hold back a laugh. “A personal problem.”
He let out a sound of frustration. “Really?”
You let your mouth fall open in response. “Again, I reiterate, what am I supposed to do in this situation?”
“I don’t know!” His hands flew out in desperation as he shrugged, his shadows bouncing to the edges of his fingertips. “Help me, or something. Please.”
“Did you tell her you’re not interested?”
“Yes.”
You narrowed your eyes at him. “Did you tell her you’re not interested?”
“Vocally? No. Physically? Yes.”
You scrunched your face in confusion. “What does that even mean?”
Azriel brought a finger to the bridge of his nose. You rolled your eyes, not waiting for him to respond as you added, “Why are you acting frustrated right now? You put yourself in this position, Az.”
For what felt like the millionth time in the conversation, Az scowled. “I’m well aware of the position I’m currently placed in, Y/n.”
You brought the apple to your mouth, taking advantage of the moment of silence to actually indulge in the sole reason you’d been in the kitchen in the first place. Taking a few seconds to chew, you mulled over the options at hand.
“Next time you’re with her, just stare.”
Azriel blinked. “What.”
“You have this stare you do when you zone out, it's creepy. And unnerving. It makes me want to apologize for things I’ve never done.”
His eyebrows raised in amusement, a slight smirk forming on his lips. You narrowed your eyes before letting your face fall, as you frowned at him, arms falling lax at your sides. “You do it on purpose, don’t you?”
His smirk grew. “Never,” he replied, but the mischievous glint in his eyes gave him away. “But good idea, I’ll do that. Thanks, Y/n.”
As he turned his back and began walking out, you quickly sent a vulgar gesture to his back, angrily sticking up your middle finger in mockery.
“Saw that,” he sang over his shoulders. You casted your gaze down to a lone shadow that danced before you.
“Snitch,” you whispered down to it, watching as it began sliding to Azriel’s retreating form.
His voice rang out from the hallway, “Heard that, too.”
✹ ✶ 𖧷 ✶✹
Velaris was extra lively this morning, and it made your day even better.
You always found it so special that despite his duties as High Lord, Rhys never missed the tradition of getting breakfast with you every other Wednesday. You couldn’t quite remember when the tradition started, surely centuries ago when you both were younger, deciding that Wednesday’s needed a specific pick-me-up to get through the rest of the week. But the tradition formed, and it stayed for centuries. And, truly, you loved it. It always gave you a sense of comfort— a reminder that things may always change around you, but never when it came to the bond you shared with your boys, and with Rhysand especially.
But Rhys was quiet this morning, absentmindedly picking at the flakes of the croissant on his table.
You let out a small laugh. “Okay, spill. What the hell happened to you?”
Rhys slowly angled his head to look up at you, face distorted in defeat. “Females,” he muttered. “That’s what happened.”
You frowned, placing the croissant back down on the plate before you. You dusted your hands of crumbs. “Usually you say that word with a lot more excitement.”
He raised his eyebrows in response, and you watched as he rolled his eyes slightly. “Yeah, tell me about it.”
You lifted an eyebrow of your own. “What did you do?”
He brought his gaze back to you.  “I’ve been fucking around with the twins.”
You frowned in confusion.
“...Nuala and Cerridwen?” You whispered, leaning closer to him, face scrunched.
You let your mind wander for a moment, thinking about the two twins that Rhysand had welcomed into your home. You loved the sisters dearly, and even you can admit they were beautiful— a type of beauty you didn’t really know how to describe, but beautiful nonetheless. But they were more shadows than they were form, not tangible enough to….have sex with, you assumed. You blinked.
“W-What?” Rhysand said, eyes widening slightly. “No. The twins from Rita’s last weekend.”
“Oh,” you breathed out with a relieved smile. And then you thought back to the two females Rhys had left with, a grin forming on your face.” Oh,” you said, amused. You leaned forward bumped his shoulders with a gentle fist. “Nice.”
“Not nice,” he grumbled, letting his back fall against the metal back of the chair. He let out an exasperated sigh. Your gaze trailed to the streets next to you, catching the sight of a few passerbys taking in the scene of their defeated High Lord. You cleared your throat, leaning forward in your chair to place your elbows on the table.
“Okay, I’m confused,” you said, “Why is this not a good thing? Seventeen year old Rhysand would be pissing in excitement right now.”
Rhys let out a small snicker at this, a small smirk on his face at the image. But then it quickly fell when he let out another grumble.
“Rhys, people are looking at you and making fun of you.”
He sprung up at this, eyes quickly searching his surroundings. He made eye contact with a few citizens, sprouting a large, charming grin on his face as he lifted a hand in greeting. The groups hesitantly gave a wave back, opting for small smiles before they went on their way.
Rhysand then looked at you once more, leaning forward to grab your hands in his.
“I’m an honest male. I’m allowed to make mistakes, right?”
It was becoming suspicious now, and you narrowed your eyes at him with pursed lips.
“What did you do?”
He gave you a small, guilty smile, perfect teeth on display.
“I bought them flowers, right? Just a sweet, classic, gesture to show them I was interested.”
You resisted the urge to laugh. It was, indeed, a sweet gesture, but Cassian’s words from earlier in the week rang in your mind, his joke about flowers being a boring move-- a boring Rhys move. You didn’t hide your amusement well enough, though, and Rhysand narrowed his eyes at you, tapping your hands lightly to draw your attention back.
“What?” he said.
You shook your head, giving him a small, inconspicuous smile. Then you offered him a shrug. “Nothing. Keep talking.”
He kept his eyes narrowed for a moment, but then he gave up, letting out another dramatic-Rhysand sigh.  “But apparently, I gave each of the flowers to the wrong twin. And now they’re mad that I can’t tell them apart. I mean, they’re identical, Y/n. As amazing as I am, I’m no god.”
You let out a small snort, staring at him with an amused smile. “You can literally read minds.”
He opened his mouth. And then closed it.
“Well,” he said, clearing his throat, “That hadn’t occurred to me.”
You laughed, readjusting your hands so now it was yours that lay otop of his. You gave a gentle pat. “But that’s wrong. So you need to find a way to differentiate them, at least if you want to keep whatever it is you have going.”
“It’s fun,” he said, as a grin began to grow on his face. “One female is great, but sisters?” He let out a small whistle, “Whole other experience.”
You grimaced. “Rhysand,” you scolded, “Don’t be such a male. I was going to offer to help you. I take it back.”
“No, no,” he said, looking at you with wide eyes. He then gave you a pout, “Please.”
You held his stare for a moment, watched as he titled his head and gave you an innocent, charming, boyish smile.
“Fine,” you finally said, “But you owe me.”
Rhysand grinned, large and broad, as he sat back into his chair and picked up the small desert on his plate. “I always do,”  he said with a gleam in his eye, bringing the croissant to his mouth.
✹ ✶ 𖧷 ✶✹
It took you a few days, four to be exact, before you were able to fulfill the promise you’d made to Rhysand. It was nighttime now as you finally returned to the townhouse for the day. From down the hall, you could see the dim faelight pouring out from Rhysand’s office, his door wide open.
Once you reached the doorway, you perched yourself in it, leaning against it as you cleared your throat.
“Leyra is slightly shorter and has two dimples. Kerala has shorter hair, one dimple, and a freckle on her chin.”
Rhysand looked up from his papers, sitting up right in his chair with a smile on his face. “Have I told you how amazing you are?”
You gave him a grin. “Add it to the list.”
Rhys laughed, tilting his head as he took in a relaxed breath. “Thank you.”
You gave him a small nod of your head as you began walking out. But before you took a step to leave, you popped your head back into the view of the doorway, wrapping your hand around the edge of the frame.
“Kerala also has a freckle on the inside of her right thigh. Kinda looks like a little heart.”
Rhysand’s face furrowed, and then his mouth fell open slightly. He narrowed his eyes.
“How do you know that?”
You grinned at him for the second time that night, giving the frame of the doorway a pat with your hands. Then you shrugged. “You never told me how you wanted me to help.”
Before Rhys could register your words, you were walking away, your figure disappearing from his open door.
When it finally hit, Rhys let out a small chuckle. Then, he shrugged to himself, returning to his work with an amused smile.

Young Love and Old Money (Cassian x Female! Reader) Part 5
Part 1 , Part 2 , Part 3, Part 4, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8
AN: This definitely should've been two parts...
Summary: She was the most beautiful woman in Prythian, sister to the High Lord of Night, and now she is the soon-to-be wife of Eris Vanserra. Despite her many titles and her aura of unattainability, Cassian can't help but fall deeply in love with the princess of the Night Court. But will it be enough to stop her impending wedding to a man who is sure to destroy her from the inside out?
Warnings: Sexisim, trauma from under the mountain, alcohol, SA, blood, Rhys is sweet but oblivious, autumn court men are pigs, SMUT (mwhahaha),
Word Count: 9,218 (I don't wanna talk about it)
Tumblr media
For about the hundredth time that evening I had given myself the once over. The afternoon had been spent with handmaidens all over me, styling my hair, lining my eyes in kohl, polishing my nails in Autumn Court red, shining the diamond necklace given to me by Eris, and making sure I lived up to my name.
I was surprised by how simple the dress was that was chosen for me. The handmaidens said they wanted to let my natural beauty show, as well as my new collar, I mean necklace. I ran my hands over the large, freshly polished gems. No matter how hard I tried I couldn’t get used to the weight of it.
I made my way to the foyer where I knew my brother and his Inner Circle would be waiting. Anxiety filled my chest. Tonight I would be dancing and mingling with hundreds of people, but I only cared about one. The man Azriel was currently nudging with his elbow to get him to turn around.
Cassian was lethal in fighting leathers and he was deadly in his most casual clothes, but the jacket and pants he wore tonight? It was a miracle I was still standing upright.
His eyes shot to me and his mouth parted slightly, sucking in a breath. Those eyes, those hazel eyes, how they burned a hole right through my soul. Right through the gown and the jewels and straight into the heart of me. Cassian looked at me the way every female dreamed of being looked at.
“You look amazing sister,” Rhysand said, pulling my attention from Cassian.
I turned to where my brother stood with Mor, who was clad in her usual jaw dropping red. I hadn’t seen my brother in so long. With the war getting closer and things with Eris getting more intense I hadn’t seen him since that initial day at the Autumn Court four weeks ago. While I missed his face, it reminded me of the sacrifices he made for me, and reminded me why marrying Eris was so important.
“You clean up pretty good too, Rhys,” I smiled, pulling him into a tight hug.
“I have something for you,” Rhys grinned, waving a hand in the air to pull a dazzling tiara seemingly from mid air. “I went into the vaults and grabbed this. It was mother’s, and I thought you might like to wear it.”
The tiara was beautiful and the moment it appeared in his hand I recognized it. It was one of our mothers favorites, made to look like a crown of shooting stars flying across her head like a halo. I had forgotten how magnificently she used to dress everyday.
“Oh Rhys,”  I cried, throwing my arms around him while tears welled up in my eyes.
“I know, I miss her too,” he murmured into my shoulder.
“Help me put it on?” I ask him, pulling away and wiping my tears.
“Of course,” he smiled with his own eyes glassed over. He bent down slightly to place the tiara on my head before standing back to admire it. “She would’ve been so proud of you.”
“I think she would’ve been proud of both of us,” I beam at him, rubbing circles over the tops of his hands. “Now enough with the nostalgia, I’m going to cry off all my makeup. Let’s go party.” I laugh off my tears.
“Yeah c’mon Rhys you’re going to make us all sad drunks,” Mor said, clasping her hand in Cassian’s and winnowing them out.
Rhys held my fingers tight as he winnowed us along with her and Azriel was moments behind us. The second that the smell of damp leaves and woodsmoke filled my senses I felt a shudder run down my spine. I told myself that tonight with Eris would be different, but if the last time he had too much wine was any indication of how this evening would go…
The ballroom was filled with members of every court as my brother led me into the large space,  Cassian’s looming presence flanking my right side. It was impressive to see all the different types, colors and textures of clothing. It would make a lovely and chaotic painting if anyone ever had the will to commission it. Of course, Night Court black stood out like a sore thumb, but I certainly didn’t mind. It’s not like my brother and I weren’t the center of attention everywhere we went anyways. I looked to Rhys to find his eyes rapidly scanning the sea of people and I couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle.
“She isn’t here brother,” I said quietly into his ear.
“Who isn’t here?” he asked, trying to play the fool.
“The cursebreaker you’ve been searching the crowd for,” I laugh. “I asked Eris if she would be in attendance and he said that Tamlin and her had not replied to his invitation.”
“You asked Eris for me?” Rhys said, finally turning his head to me in surprise.
“Well I didn’t tell him why I wanted to know whether or not they were attending. I just asked casually. I secretly hoped you’d get to see her,” I smiled.
“You’re a wonderful little sister, you know that?” Rhys smiled, pressing a kiss to my cheek.
“Yeah yeah you big softie,” I laughed, nudging his shoulder. From the corner of my eye I could see Eris making his way through the crowd with two glasses of wine in hand.
“Rhysand, princess, we’re overjoyed that you could make it.” Eris smiled that conniving smile. “For you my little flame,” he said, handing me a goblet of wine and pressing a quick kiss to my lips.
“We’re happy to have been invited,” Rhysand smiles and I swear I hear two females faint somewhere in the room.
“Walk with me darling?” Eris says, extending an arm to me. I take it but not before glancing to my right once to see the worry in Cassian’s eyes.
As we pace around the border of the room I see why Eris chose to promenade first and dance later. It felt like every single eye in the room followed the same pattern. First they widened at the sight of me, then they flicked over to Eris, down to our linked arms and finally back to me once again. Their stares were stifling, I hadn’t been around this many people since under the mountain.
Eris didn’t want to promenade first to finish our drinks, oh no. He wanted everyone in this godsforsaken room to see that the Jewel belonged to him. The smirk on his face was a dead give away.
“You look ravishing tonight little flame,” Eris whispered into my ear, his breath hot in my neck. “That's why they’re all staring.”
“Don’t worry I’m used to the staring,” I replied truthfully trying to avoid all the eyes on me.
“I’m sure you are,” he chuckled. “Stay used to it pet, I have every intention of parading you around all night. Let them stare all they want. It’s only a problem if they touch.”
His words sent ice through my veins. It didn’t matter how many cruel or shocking things Eris said to me. Each and every time they cut like knives, taking a little piece of me with them that I would never get back.
“Is that the Jewel?” crooned a too familiar voice. I turned my head to find Helion standing in all his glory, a friendly smile plastered on his face.
“Helion!” I smiled, embracing him warmly. It had been too long since I felt the warmth of my friend's gaze.
“My dear you look exquisite as always,” he smiled, twirling me around so he could see all of me. “Your brother keeps you on too short a leash, I haven’t seen you since, well, since we were under the mountain.”
Eris’ body tightened next to me as he slid a hand possessively around the small of my waist, pulling me into his side, “Indeed, Helion, but rest assured, she's in good hands now. And her leash is exactly where it needs to be.” His words carried a veiled threat.
“That’s right,” Helion smiled, ever the charmer.  “I heard that Rhysand had finally given her away. Congratulations to the both of you.”
“Oh we aren’t engaged yet, just courting.” I smile nervously, placing my hand on Eris' chest in an attempt to keep him from blowing his top off.
“Yes just courting, for now,” he smirked, nuzzling my neck.
My body might’ve been wrapped around Eris like a lovesick fool, but I let my eyes convey the truth to my friend. Helion looked at me with a sad remorse and I knew then and there that he had put the pieces together.
“I’ll leave you two love birds be,” he said trying to hide his disdain. “I think I hear Thessan calling me.”
We bid our goodbyes and I slammed what was left of my wine and placed it on the side table of the chaise next to us.
“I didn’t think I’d have to share tonight,” Eris rolled his eyes, continuing our walk around the perimeter.
“You can’t court the Jewel and get upset that everyone else wants to as well,” I scoff at his insolence.
“I am going to be High Lord, I can do whatever I want,” Eris seethes, stopping our stride and pulling my arm towards him so that I slam into his chest.
“Eris stop you’re making a scene,” I say tightly trying to pull my wrist from his grasp.
“Good, that's exactly what I want – to cause a scene. Let them look,” he growls, hurling his lips towards mine. His kiss is anything but polite and High Lord-ly and from the strong taste of wine and whiskey on his lips I underestimated how drunk he already was. Behind me I could faintly hear gasps of the people around us, no doubt bearing witness to the very public display of power he was putting on.
He pulls his lips from mine and stares at me with a predatory gaze and as both our chests heave, “Now that’s better,” he smirks.
I resist the urge to wipe my mouth off as I pluck another glass of wine from a silver tray and down it. Gods this night was just getting started and it already couldn’t get any worse.
“I want to dance,” I say abruptly to Eris. If we dance there’s a chance that someone might cut in and save me for at least a minute or two.
“Fine, let’s go.” Eris grumbles downing his wine as well.
He leads me out onto the dance floor and the crowd of dancers parts for us.  For what specific reason? I can’t name why. Maybe it’s to get a good look at me, or maybe it’s because Eris is truly that terrifying. Either way I can’t help but feel like I’ve been placed in a glass box and suspended where the crystal chandelier is in the middle of the room.
Eris leads me into a dance and I don’t miss how tight his grip is on my waist, practically warning off anyone who might try and whisk me away from him. There goes that wonderful plan.
“You’re a wonderful dancer,” Eris complimented me and I noticed him trying to seem more sober.
“Thank you, my father taught me when I was a little girl,” I replied looking around the room.
From the second I had stepped onto the floor I could feel that searing gaze that took me apart bit by bit following me throughout my waltz. Finally I saw Cassian at the edge of the room with Azriel. Both of them leaning against the edge of the wall, wings tight on their bodies to keep people from brushing into them. Azriel whispered something into Cassian’s ear that had him downing his drink.
“I wish you could see the looks of envy around the room,” Eris said low into my ear, his voice carrying an undertone of possessiveness. “Envy of what I have. Envy of what they'll never possess. You've been this mythical thing for so long, and now you're utterly tangible, and more importantly, you're mine.”
“I’m not yours yet, Eris. You would do well to remember that.” I utter to him trying my best to keep my voice even.
Before he can even have a chance to lash out at me, a throat clears next to us halting our movements. I turn my gaze from Eris' fiery gaze and find Cassian standing before us and I curse my heart from nearly leaping out of my chest at the way he’s staring Eris down, like he heard every word he said.
“Princess, would you honor me with a dance?” Cassian said, his usual tone of confidence laced with uncertainty.
“I would love to Cassian,” I smile, feeling my cheeks blush.
“Over my dead body would she dance with the likes of you,” Eris simmers, pulling me closer to him. His grip on my arm was like a brand.
“No, you don’t get to speak for her,” Cassian growls, grasping the hand Eris has on me.
“Eris this isn’t very High Lord-ish behavior,” I grumbled under my breath feeling even more eyes find our little disagreement.
“He’s a bastard pet, he would soil you.” Eris replies, trying his best to show his restraint as he and Cassian engage in the biggest staredown this court has ever seen.
“Yes, a bastard with nothing to lose and a dance with the Jewel to gain. Remember what I said about that arm Prince Eris? It would be a pity if you couldn’t hunt next season,” Cassain said back, his words a not so veiled threat.
“One dance,” Eris chides. “Then I want her returned to me.” He dips a hand under my chin to place a kiss on  my lips, no doubt trying to antagonize Cassian further.
If Cassian is provoked by the gesture he doesn’t show it. He simply sweeps me up into a dance the second the next song starts. His arms around me contrast the feeling of Eris so well. They’re warm and strong compared to Eris, who has a touch so cold it could freeze over hell. I take a deep breath to ground myself, Cassian’s scent of cedar and leather fills my senses and puts me at ease.
“I’m sorry if I caused you any trouble,” he said and I could tell he meant it. He probably assumed that Eris would behave more accordingly in such a public setting.
“No you actually saved me,” I laughed, falling easily into step with him.
“You look beautiful tonight, I don’t think I got a chance to tell you that earlier,” Cassian said tightly, like the words might hurt him. The tension in the air following what happened with Eris still thick.
“No I don’t think you did,” I replied and mentally cursed myself at how dumb it sounded. I get compliments all the time, and I always respond with grace and poise like I was taught. But something about Cassian takes away every piece of training away from me, for a moment I’m just a regular person.
“Then I’m a fool and I should’ve said it sooner,” he replied, spinning me out and pulling me back in. I was surprised by how well he moved on the dance floor.
“I didn’t know you could dance,” I smile and his eyes that were previously on his feet now meet mine.
“I can’t. I had Mor teach me this one so I could dance with you at least once tonight. That’s why I’ve been so short with you, I’m counting my steps,” Cassian laughs, blush tinting his cheeks. “Once this song is over Az is going to cut in so I don’t have to face the embarrassment of trying to dance to whatever they play next.”
It takes me a minute to process all that he’s said, and as I’m trying to read his face to see if he’s telling the truth or not I can see his lips twitching as he counts his steps in his head. A smile breaks across my lips and I can’t help but laugh.
“Oh Cassian,” I giggle, pressing my forehead into his shoulder. His arms immediately pull me close and I relish the feeling. “No one’s ever done anything like that for me before. Thank you.”
“Of course, anything for you princess,” he smiles and for a moment I’m transported back into that dark hallway. I suddenly become all too aware of our joined hands, his hand on my waist flexing like he’s scared to have it there.
“You’re actually a really wonderful dancer,” I laugh trying to keep myself from throwing myself at him.
Cassian’s mouth turns up to the side as his eyes burn into mine, “one, two, three. One, two, three. One, two, three.” he counts. I let out another laugh as we continue to spin around the room, he even throws in a lift every now and then when he forgets the steps.
The song is over all too soon and within seconds of the last note being played Azriel steps in with a gracious bow.
“Princess,” the shadowsinger greets me.
“Azriel,” I curtsey.
“Thanks brother,” Cassian smiles, clapping Azriel on the back before heading out.
“Don’t mention it,” Az nods, taking me in his arms and beginning to waltz me around. “Did he tell you?”
“Yes he did,” I laugh remembering the blush that covered his cheeks when he did. Never in my life did I think I would see my general, The Lord of Bloodshed, blush. “Have you been practicing with Mor too?” I raise an eyebrow.
“No actually,” Azriel says, spinning me around in a circle. “Dancing has always come quite naturally to me.”
“Well I’d even dare to say that you’re a better dance partner than Eris,” I smile as Azriel dips me with the grace that only a warrior could possess.
“Speaking of Eris, I saw what happened. Are you okay?” Azriel asks quietly, pulling me closer so that no one can hear us.
“As okay as I can be. Gods everything about this room is stifling.” I roll my eyes.
“Would you like to get some air outside?” he asks me and I nod.
Azriel leads me out to the terrace at the back of the ballroom. When we get there I expect to see at least one couple sticking their tongues down each other's throats. But when the chill night air hits my bare skin it’s easy to see why we’re the only ones out here. I lean my back against the railing as Azriel closes the wooden doors behind us, the sound of the symphony and chattering people becoming muffled.
Az pulls a corked bottle of wine out from behind his back with a cheeky grin, “You looked like you might need this.” he says pulling out the cork with a pop.
“You’re a literal savior Az,” I smile, taking the bottle from him and putting it to my lips. It was the same wine I complimented Beron on and it slid down all too easy.
Azriel leans against the banister with me as we look out over the Autumn Court. Darkness envelops the land  so that the only thing to be seen are a few fae lights and of course, the stars. I smile at the sky for a moment. No matter where I go or whom I marry, night will always follow me, and there’s a comfort there.
“So you’re really going through with this?” Azriel croons, his voice laced only with curiosity.
“I am,” I nod, swigging from the bottle again. “Eris is a viper, but he has something we need. I’ll do whatever it takes to keep my people and my family safe.”
“You deserve to marry for love y/n. You deserve to be happy too. You think that Rhys is the only one who made sacrifices for you and our court but you went under that mountain too.” he points out using that big brother tone he loves to use so much.
“Saving my court will make me happy.”
“But is marrying Eris what you truly want?” he asks honestly, trying to get to the root of things. So I let him have it.
“Gods no Az. Look at me. Eris has already made me his little pet with this ridiculous necklace. I  don’t think I could ever love Eris or be truly happy with him. But he’s been very clear about me bearing him many children, maybe I’ll find my happiness in them,” I rant, chugging more wine trying to drown out the sound of the voices in my head.
“What about Cassian?” Azriel asks and my heart nearly stops. I don’t even let myself breathe for a moment.
“What about him, Azriel?” I sigh, turning around and pressing my back to the bannister so that I could see the wooden doors that lead back to the viper den of aristocrats.
“You obviously have feelings for him,” Azriel scoffs like it's the most obvious thing in the world.
“What makes you say that?” I laugh. Azriel is dangerously close to covering the truth, one I haven’t had the guts to admit to myself. Because saying the words out loud? They would crumble the very foundations I stand upon, and then what would be left?
“Because I’ve seen the way you look at him.”
“And how do I look at him? Huh?” I try to keep the fierce facade.
“You look at him the same way every man, woman, and child looks at you.” Azriel blurts out, his voice laced with frustration. “Hell even I used to look at you that way till I realized I couldn’t hold a candle to the way you look at Cassian.”
I crumble. Every thought I have falls apart at Azriel making such a statement because I know it’s true. But to acknowledge it, or even worse, to act on it? How selfish of a person would that make me? To turn my back on my brother who saved me under the mountain. To possibly deny him the chance to be with his mate, the cursebreaker, because he dies in battle. To risk Azriel’s life because he has to be on the front lines. To risk the lives of every man, woman and child in my court.
I had thought about it, gods I had. Especially at night, when I woke from my nightmares of being under the mountain. Or when I dreamt of that small female puppy in Eris’ kennels. It would’ve been so easy for me to walk into Cassian’s room just one door down and ask him to hold me. Oh gods I wanted him to hold me. But it couldn’t be and that killed me.
“You’re bold shadowsinger,” I gritted my teeth, sipping the last of the wine. “I’ll give you that. But if you’ll excuse me, Eris is probably looking for me.”
I shove the empty bottle of wine into his chest and thrust open the doors. I hear him call out for me clearly feeling bad about what he had said, but I don’t turn back. Tears prick my cheeks and I know that if I face Azriel once more and show him the truth I’ll fall apart completely.
My eyes scan the crowd for Eris, and admittedly Cassain. The latter is nowhere to be seen, but eventually I find Eris lounging on a chaise with a few of his friends, all of them clad in Autumn Court attire laughing boisterously. I walk over to him dodging everyone in front of me, wine clouding my mind.
“There she is,” Eris slurs, the wine from 4his glass nearly spilling out as he sits it on an end table. “Come here my pet,” he smirks, pulling me down to sit on his lap.
I grab the wine he set down and sip from it as I take in the men around us. At first glance I can tell they are all pompous assholes by the way they rake their gaze down my body. One even has the nerve to cock his eyebrow at me and my head turns to Eris to avoid his gaze.
“Isn’t she exquisite gentlemen?” Eris asks, nuzzling my neck.
A collective murmur of agreement falls upon the small group.
“The Jewel of Prythian,” Eris says, kissing my neck and I try to squirm out of his grasp but he only pulls me closer to him.
“I’ll say!” one of the men cheer causing the whole group to chuckle.
Eris’ mouth falls from my neck to my collar bone, “Have I told you yet tonight that this corset is doing wonders for your perfect tits pet?” he murmurs licking a long stripe up the side of my neck earning a round of tantalizing ‘ohhhs’ from his friends. At this rate I’m surprised they all haven’t whipped their cocks to enjoy the show Eris was so happily putting on.
“He’s not wrong,” says another man and I feel Eris smirk against the tops of my breasts. He’s enjoying the game of dangling me in front of his friends. A forbidden fruit only he can indulge in.
“I wonder how many males have fucked those tits,” crooned another bringing laughter to the forefront once more.
Eris laughs, “She’s completely untouched,” he smirks into my skin. “I’ll be the first.”
The men utter how impressed they are. Some mention how jealous they are. My heart rate quickens knowing that I couldn’t have walked into a worse situation.
“Eris,” I hiss quietly, my eyes scanning the room for Cassian but he’s nowhere to be seen still. I even look for Azriel or my brother, but the room is so packed full of people I can’t make anyone out.
“You know I was thinking about what you said earlier,” Eris croons and I know that tone, the one that means something terrible is about to happen. “When you said I don’t own you yet?”
“Eris stop you’re drunk,” I say low as I try to wiggle out of his grasp but it only instigates him more.
“Well the idea that you weren’t truly mine yet based on a technicality didn’t sit right with me little flame,” he started, blatantly ignoring my protests. “So while I let you dance with your filthy dog I ran downstairs to the vault.”
No, no, no, no. This isn’t happening.
“And I grabbed this,” he says, pulling out a ring so large I was surprised he was able to keep it hidden. Eris grabbed my left hand with unnecessary force and slid the thing on my ring finger. The weight of it nearly made me hurl. “Now you are mine. I’ve lived up to my end of the bargain, it’s been a month of courting and I’ve decided you will make a very obedient and agreeable wife.”
“And don’t forget fuckable!” the first man who spoke cheered.
“Yes, I’ll enjoy ruining you, my pet,” Eris smirks, kissing me softly.
“Hell yeah we need an heir!”
These men know no morals, no shame, no compassion. If my brother heard a fraction of what they were saying…Yes, my brother. Gods he probably heard so much worse with Amarantha.
“I can promise you all that an heir will be in her belly within a month,” Eris announced to his cadre, earning cheers from them all as they drank from their cups.
I knew it was coming. I think in my heart I always did. From the moment I met Eris he had never once given me any indication that he wouldn’t marry me. Hell even if he hated me it was evident that he had every intention of marrying me just so he could say he deflowered and owned the Jewel of Prythian. I knew all of this and yet I still felt blindsided.
“What do you say pet? Shall we start trying now?” Eris croons, earning another rally from his companions.
“Eris that’s enough,” I grunt, pushing him off for good this time. The men around us laugh at my reluctance as I stand to my feet.
“You little!” Eris seethe standing up right after me and gripping my arm.
“Bend her over your knee and spank her Eris!” drunkenly laughed a man.
“You touch me right now and our marriage will be void by the laws of your court!” I growl, reminding him.
“I am the High Lord, I'll change them myself!” he growls at me.
“Not yet you aren’t,” I scorn him, nothing short of murder in my eyes. “I will see you in three days time to begin planning the wedding. I expect you to be sober and act with the morals befitting of a future High Lord.”
I free my arm from his grasp, leaving him to contend with the embarrassment of failing to control his future wife in front of his companions. I rip off the engagement ring and pocket it, unable to stand the weight of it. My eyes dart around for Cassian and when I don’t find him I grab a bottle of wine from one of the unattended tables. I make my way to the front door, choosing to walk all the way back to the Night Court if necessary. As I reach for the door it’s pulled back by the other side revealing a very disheveled Cassian.
“There you are, I was looking for you,” I grumble, still agitated from Eris’ antics.
“You look upset, what happened?” he slurs slightly.
“Are you drunk?” I ask tapping my foot in the still half open doorway.
“Yes, but you didn’t answer my question, what the hell happened?” Cassian grumbled straightening up and pushing the fog from his brain.
“Eris happened,” I complained, gesturing to where he sat laughing with his companions again. “He was just showing me off and talking about making an heir and all that shit. It doesn’t matter. I stole some wine, let's go.” I huff starting to move past him.
“No that’s it, I’m going to fucking kill him.” Cassian seethes and begins to move past me, but I place a hand on him stopping him.
“No stop,” I protest standing in front of him, but he doesn’t take his eyes off Eris. “I’ve had enough drama for one night. Please just take me home.”
Cassian doesn’t take his gaze off the future High Lord, his breathing picking up, the siphons he had on his hands glowing.
“Cassian,” I whisper, his name for only him to hear. His gaze falls to mine and softens. “Take me home.” I plead.
His eyes go soft at my pleas and I see him come back to earth, “Let’s go,” he says leading me out the door.
We step out into the night air and waltz down the steps. Each and every step that we take pulls me further away from that cursed room, and as the sound of music and chatter get even further away I start to feel myself relax more. Cassian’s presence is like an anchor that keeps my feet on the ground. I am  comfortable. I am safe.
We reach the bottom of the long stairway, and Cassian stops in his tracks. I turn to find him looking a little shocked, like he just remembered something.
“What is it?” I ask taking a step towards him.
“I uh,” he stumbles over his words. “I got you something.”
He turns around to a large potted plant at the base of the long steps leading up to the ballroom. His large form bends down to pick up something that’s behind it and when he emerges once more he holds a puppy in his arms. I can’t help but gasp as the puppy wiggles to life, looking comically small in the Illyrians arms. I set down the stolen bottle of wine so that I can see her.
“I might’ve gotten a little drunk and broken into Eris’ kennels to get her,” he laughs passing her into my arms. “You just loved her so much and you kept talking about her and… I just couldn’t leave her.”
The puppy wiggled in my arms licking my face like she had remembered me from our first meeting. I know I would know her face and markings anywhere.
“Oh Cassian you have no idea how much this means to me,” I beam tears gracing my eyes.
“I figured we could find her a better home, somewhere she will be loved,” Cassain smiled.
It that moment I don’t think I could’ve ever loved him more. I looked up to see him watching the puppy wiggling in my arms. Everything about him was so beautiful, from his sharp jawline to the tendrils of hair that had fallen out of his low bun. I couldn’t help myself. I stood on my tip toes and pressed a loving kiss to his cheek.
“Thank you Cassain,” I smile at him as I watch that blush return to his cheeks.
“Anything for you princess,” he reminds me. “Now we really have to get going before someone figures out I stole that thing.” Cassian laughs picking up the bottle of wine and then me.
We take off into the air and I can’t help but let out a laugh at how ridiculous this all looks. A general, his princess, a stolen puppy and a stolen bottle of wine making a beeline for the Night Court.
Tumblr media
Cassian and I land on the terrace of the House of Wind in a fit of laughter recalling stories of his and my brother's adolescent lives.
“I couldn’t help myself, he was some prick in his new training clothes and I was a kid with nothing. He deserved to get a little beat up!” Cassian laughed, the most real one I had ever heard from him.
“He probably deserved it. Rhys is terrible at first impressions,” I giggle thinking of how haughty my young brother used to be.
Cassian opens the door to the kitchen and living room letting us both in. The house is dark save for a few fae lights over the kitchen island. I wasn’t sure where the shadowsinger was, but whatever lady he was entertaining was certainly a lucky one. The puppy had fallen asleep in my arms on the flight home, so I set her adorable self down on one of the many plush couches. The entire time I felt Cassian’s eyes watching me intensely.
“My buzz is starting to wear off,” I smile, turning from the pup and walking past Cassian and into the kitchen. “Let’s have a nightcap before we go to bed.”
I pull out my brothers expensive whiskey and a couple of glasses. I wait for Cassian to say something, anything, but he stays silent. The only indication that he’s still there are the raised hairs on my neck indicating that he’s watching the back of my head as I start to pour myself a glass.
“Single or double?” I ask him, my hands holding his glass and the decanter of whiskey.
I wait for a response, but the silence that seeps from him fills the room with an unexplainable tension. I’m suddenly all too aware of the lack of heat in the room as the hair on my arms rises and oh gods I can feel him. His presence behind me.
The sound of cool, calculated and slow footsteps echo off the walls of the room and suddenly he’s there behind me. His heat radiates towards me and I don’t dare turn around. His fingertips graze the backs of my elbows, letting me know he’s there.
“Y/n,” his voice is like a prayer as his hands dance around the backs of my arms. My breath hitches at the utterance of my name, he never calls me by my name and the sound of it on his lips makes my toes curl.
I  slowly turn from the kitchen island and I’m met with a wall of pure muscle. I crane my head up to meet his intense gaze, and his eyes say everything. They pierce right through me. I rest my hands on his forearms letting the feel of the fabric over them ground me but it doesn’t help. He’s too close, and he’s too warm and he’s everything.
“Cassian,” I whisper for only him to hear.
I press a hand to his chest feeling his heartbeat beneath his shirt finding that it’s beating just as wildly as mine. My eyes meet his again and there’s a pleading there, like he might be suffering and I’m the only one who can end it.
“Kiss me,” I breathe.
His hand sweeps under my chin pulling his lips on mine and I suddenly realize why the romance novels I’ve read describe it as earth shattering. Cassian’s hands fall to my waist and I feel like I’m on fire everywhere his body meets mine. His lips feel like heaven against my own, nothing like the way  Eris kisses me. No, Cassian kisses me like he might love me. My hands grip his shirt and pull him closer.
I feel his fingers slide down my waist and beneath my thighs. He hoists me up, dress skirts and all, onto the counter and I suddenly have much better access to him. His mouth wanders down my neck leaving wet kisses all over me. I place a hand behind me to get more support and the empty whiskey glass shatters on the tile floor.
The large necklace Eris gave me gets in the way of his kisses and I feel my blood boil for a moment. How could I belong to Eris when Cassian kisses me like this?  When he holds me like I’m his everything?
I capture my lips in Cassian’s once more pulling him away from my neck. His mouth is warm and soft on mine. My fingers find the front of the ridiculous necklace and I tear it off, the sound of the clasp breaking reverberating through the house. Cassian growls and presses his hips further between my legs, my hand slaps on the granite counter for support, the gems of the necklace clattering with it. I release it so that my hands can fly to the buttons on his shirt. The growl that had come from his lips had changed something in me. I needed him now, and I needed all of him.
“Cassian,” I pleaded. The name rolls off my tongue with such ease. His hands roam my body and all I can think about is how I need more. More, more, more, more.
I get the top half of his shirt unbuttoned and I let my fingers roam the bare skin that lies there. He’s warm against my chilled hands, and as my fingertips brush over a long scar I can’t help but want to feel all of him. Know all of him.
“Stop, stop,” Cassian mutters, taking my hands in his and pulling them away from his chest.
My mind immediately starts to panic as he backs away from me. What have I done? I’ve ruined everything. I try to meet Cassian’s eyes from a few feet away but he won’t look at me. Instead he looks at his hands, like they’re covered in blood.
“I can’t. I can’t do this,” he mutters still out of breath.
My heart shatters. I had dreamed of kissing Cassian, of having him hold me like he was just seconds ago. Never did any of those dreams end the way this one is now.
“Cassian I-”
“I’m not worthy,” he breathes, never taking his eyes off his hands. “I’m not worthy of you.”
My already shattered heart shatters again.
I slide off the counter taking slow steps towards him waiting for him to flinch or move away but he doesn’t. I reach him placing a hand on the cheek feeling the stubble there, and despite his words I swore he leaned into my touch ever so slightly. My thumb caresses  his face, begging his eyes to meet  mine and they do. In that beautiful shade of hazel there’s a sorrow by likes of which I’ve never seen.
“Then show me every part of you that feels unworthy of my love and let me kiss it until it knows nothing but it,” I say to him, praying he hears every single word. His eyes soften.
“Y/n,” he breathes pulling my lips to his once more and I swear right then and there that I’d do anything that man asked me if he just said my name like that again.
My arms wrap around his neck pulling him down towards where I stand on my tiptoes to reach him. Somehow this kiss is more passionate, on both ends as I try to live up to what I’ve told him. His hands hoisted me up again, even though the skirt of my dress was debilitating.
I feel myself being carried down the hall into a room I realize is his from this scent enveloping me from every angle. He sets me down gently, like I might break and kicks the door behind him closed. My hands find the last buttons on his skirt and I get them off with ease, my next course of action has me reaching around my back to tug at the strings of the corseted dress. I get the tie undone, but the rest is tricky.
“Wait, stop,” Cassian orders, tilting my chin up to meet his gaze. “Are you sure you want this? Because once I start I won’t be able to stop.”
“I want this, I want all of you Cassian.” I nod still breathless and his eyes search mine for any hint of a lie. “Please,” I beg and I watch all resolve fall from his face.
“Fuck y/n,” he moans before pressing his lips to mine.
My hands find the bare muscles of his chest, and try to commit every line and scar to memory. I run my hands all over him, the warmth and feel of him addicting. My fingers fall lower over his abs and I swear I melt at the years of building muscle there.
“Fuck,” he hisses. “You can’t touch me like that.” he growls using his hands on my hips to spin me around so my back is flush to him.
His lips find my neck and I swear I could fall apart just by the way his mouth feels on my skin. I feel the laces on my dress get looser and looser as his fingers work them apart behind me. The second the top one is loose enough the weight of the skirt pulls the top down leaving me completely bare. My breath hitches as I feel his calloused fingers gently coaxing me to turn around and face him. The second I do my cheeks flush and I fight the urge to cover myself.
“You’re so beautiful. I wish I knew a better way to say it than that. You are-” he loses his words, pulling me closer so my breasts are pressed to the bare skin of his chest. The feeling is euphoric. “You are everything.” he says, and it feels more like a confession.
He leans in to kiss me once more but I press my hand to his cheek to stop him, “Cassian,” I breathe and I feel his breath hitch at the way I say his name. “I love you.” the phrase echoes through the room.
I feel his body tense pulling me impossibly close. “Now I’m never letting you go,” he mutters, pressing his lips to mine in a fiery need.
His hands hoist me up and I wrap my arms around his shoulders for support. My aching core brushes against his abs and it takes all my self control not to shift my hips to get more friction there. He lays me gently on his bed, and I feel my back sink into his mountains of pillows. His clothed hips settle between mine and he pulls his head back to look at me.
“I’ve loved you ever since I met you. We had just barely become adults and I walked into the townhouse for the first time and saw you reading a book by the fire and I knew,” he confessed. “I knew I loved you before I even knew your name.”
I couldn’t stop the rogue tear that slipped from my eye at his confession. Cassian’s lips kissed the drop away before pressing his lips to mine once more. My hands threaded to his hair as he made his way down my neck leaving a trail of fire everywhere his lips brushed.
“Can I touch you?” Cassian breathed against the valley between my breasts.
“Yes,” I hiss needing him everywhere.
His lips attach themselves to the aching bud of my breast, pulling it taut. I gasp, arching my back off the bed watching him roll my nipple in his mouth. His other hand reaches to twist my other breast and I swear I’ve never felt so good in my life. My hands find his long hair and tug on it, earning a groan from him that sends vibrations through me. He switches to the other side giving it the same treatment and oh gods, this man would certainly be the death of me. His lips come off my breast with a pop as he takes in the sight of me.
“You’re perfect,” he says, pressing a kiss between my breasts once more.
“I want you inside me,” I groan, pressing my hips into him.
“No I’ll hurt you,” he grits, feeling my arousal press against him as he leaves kisses on my stomach.
“Cassian please,” I cry, tears threatening to fall from the sheer need I have for him. His eyes meet mine and I know I have him right where I want him.
“It’s going to hurt y/n,” he tells me.
“I don’t care,” I say, leaning up a bit to cup his face bringing his lips to mine in a quick kiss. “When I said I want all of you Cassian I meant it. You said you’d do anything for me.”
“Fuck y/n, okay but I’m going to get you ready first,” he groans and before he can pull away I press a kiss to his forehead.
His lips trail down my stomach once more until he gets to where I need him most. He skips over my core to leave kisses on the inside of my thighs. My body goes limp and I fall into the pillows again craning my neck to see him. A hand slides up my thigh and runs through my folds causing me to arch my back.
“You’re so wet,” he grits out feeling the pool of arousal between my legs.
“Cass please,” I whine, arching my hips to his mouth.
I watch his eyes flair at the nickname and within moments his mouth is on me licking a stripe up my core that has me letting out an unnatural sound of pleasure. His tongue swirls around my entrance before licking another long stripe through my folds once more, flicking his tongue at the top. He attacks an area between my legs that has me arching off the bed and seeing stars. Surely there could be no better pleasure in the world than this. I let out a guttural moan that has Cassian smirking from where he feasts on me, his eyes lighting up in male pride.
“Oh gods Cassian! How are you-ah!” I cry out feeling tears prick my eyes from the waves of euphoria gliding through my body, like every nerve was being caressed by his hands all at once.
“It’s your clit y/n,” Cassian smirks. “Surely all those naughty romance books taught you about your own anatomy?”  he teases rubbing circles on the bud with his fingers.
“No I think they- Ah! They might’ve glazed over that part.” I cry out trying to keep my  back from arching off the bed.
“Then allow me to enlighten you,” he grinned before feasting on me once more.
The feeling of his mouth on me had me reaching for something to grasp onto, something to ground me. Cassian must’ve noticed as seconds later I felt his rough hand grasp mine holding it tightly. His other drifted from my hip and I felt him sink a long finger into me slowly but surely. The new sensation had my heartrate picking  up even more. It skyrocketed as he started pumping it in and out of me until he added another. The knot in my stomach started to build and I could feel my body pulling closer to the edge.
“Cassian I’m going to- OH GODS!”
I didn’t even have time to finish the sentence before I was falling over the edge, all over him. He rode me through my orgasm before pressing a kiss to my clit.
“You taste fucking amazing,” he says, voice deep and husky. If he had spoken to me like that in a setting where my clothes weren’t already on his bedroom floor I would’ve ripped them off just the same.
“I do?” I laugh, cocking an eyebrow at him.
“Yeah you do,” he smiles moving up towards me. “Come here,” he says, pressing his lips to mine.
I savor the taste of him and well, me. It’s new, and I can tell by the way his hand is ripping down his pants that he finds it just as arousing as I do. I glance down to where his aching cock springs free and it takes everything in me not to gasp at the size of it. His hand tilts my chin up to press another quick kiss to my lips.
“Forget what I said earlier. The second you want to stop, just say the word.” he tells me.
“No, I want this. I want you to be my first,” I assure him and I swear I feel his cock twitch against my thigh at my words.
“Okay I’m gonna put it in, if it hurts just tell me okay princess?” he says, pressing a kiss to my brow. I nearly shudder at him calling me princess again, but this time it’s different, it doesn’t feel like a title, it feels like a loving name.
“I will,” I nod to him.
I watch as he guides his cock to my entrance, getting it slick with the aftermath of the orgasm he just pulled from me. I feel him sink in a bit and I start to feel the stretch. I focus my eyes on Cassain’s face. His brow is furrowed as he watches himself start to sink into me.  He pushes in further and the stretch starts to burn causing me to take in a sharp breath.
“Shhh baby,” he coos, pressing a kiss to my forehead. “You’re doing so good.”
“Keep going Cass,” I breathe out as tears prick my eyes.
He pushes in further and somehow even the pain feels good, because it’s him. Every single inch of him is flush to me and it still isn’t enough. It takes a moment but eventually his hips are brushing up to mine and he’s fully seated inside me, and gods, the feeling of being so full is the best feeling I’ve ever known.
CASSIAN’S POV:
As my cock finally sinks into her it takes everything in me not to pull out and slam back in. I curse myself for even thinking such a thought knowing how badly I would hurt her.
All the while I give her time to adjust her pussy flexes and clenches around my cock and godsshe’s so fucking tight. Sweat coats my brow and my muscles quake with the need to start moving but I won’t do it until she asks me.
“Okay move Cass, I’m ready,” she whispers, pressing a kiss to my lips.
Cass
Gods hearing her speak to me so informally shouldn’t make my heart beat so fast but it does.
I pull out a little before slowly pushing back in, relishing the feeling of how warm she is around me. I look down at her to look for any signs of discomfort on her face. Her eyes are closed, mouth slightly open, and the little pants falling from those perfect lips are enough to send me into a coma. I begin to build a steady pace once I feel she can take it and as I do those little pants turn into cries and I swear I could cum right there.
“Fuck you’re so tight,” I groan into her neck.
She lets out another moan and I can’t help but smirk knowing what my words do to her. My eyes glance at her face as I fuck into her. Her hair sprawled out all over the pillows, her eyes closed, the look of pure pleasure on her face. I press my lips to hers unable to stop myself, not when I’ve dreamt of doing so for so long.
Fuck how many times have I dreamt of her writhing in pleasure beneath me? The feel of her delicate hands wandering my skin? My name falling from those perfect lips? I couldn’t stop the words from falling from my mouth.
“Gods I love you so much y/n,” I say pressing my forehead to hers.
“I love you too Cassian,” she breathes and I watch as another tear falls from her face. I bring my lips down to kiss it away, and in that moment I vow that I’ll kiss her tears away till they bury me in the ground.
Her pussy clenches around me again as I thrust into her and I can tell by the way her finger nails are digging into my shoulders that she’s close.
“Let go for me princess,” I murmur through ragged breaths pressing a kiss to her forehead.
“CASSIAN!” she screams cumming all over my cock.
It’s enough to drive me over the edge with her, “Fuck y/n,” I moan as I thrust into her one last time watching her beautiful face come undone for me before I cum inside her.
Snap.
My eyes go wide and I’m thankful that she’s still too blissed out to notice as I feel that thread inside me that connects me to her.
Mate.
All this time, she was my mate. The reason I fell in love with her the moment I saw her, the reason I couldn’t stay away from her. The princess was my mate. Her words from earlier continued to echo through my head…
Show me every part of you that feels unworthy of my love and let me kiss it until it knows nothing but it…
I searched her face for any sign that she felt the bond snap too, but all I saw was her beaming up at me. Gods she was so beautiful. My mate was so beautiful.
I reached for the other end of that shining golden thread and found nothing there.
She didn’t know.

You were Beron's Achilles heel.
His youngest child and only daughter. The Princess of Autumn. You were spoiled, by your parents and your six older brothers--loved by everyone in your family. You knew they all hated each other, that your father was a bad man, abusive to your brothers and your mother. But for some reason, you were loved by him, doted on by him.
You didn't look a lot like him, or like your brothers, or like your mother. Unlike them, you sported dirty blonde hair, though your powers still resembled theirs-- wielding fire like the rest of your family.
Despite your peculiar hair color, your father loved you inmensely, showing you more affection than he did any of your elder siblings combined. You were lucky, lucky that he didn't do with you what he did to your brothers, that he didn't unleash his wrath on you like he did on Eris or the others.
What Beron did do, though, was shelter you. You lived in the Autumn Palace, and rarely ever saw outside of it. Your father would rather you stay in your rooms, where you were safe from the dangers of the realm. You had guards to accompany everywhere, and if it weren't guards-- it was your older brothers. You loved them, all of your brothers, but your favorite was Eris.
He was the gentlest out of all of them, the one that cared the most for you, the one that understood you. Eris would do anything for you, and you for him. It was thanks to him that you found the love of your life.
Rhysand.
A year ago, Eris had convinced your father to let you attend balls and parties held by the other High Lords, to let you live a life outside your rooms and the gardens. Beron beat him for the suggestion, but nonetheless listened to him.  The first ball you attended was in the Dawn Court, a celebration of sorts. Most courtiers from all around Prythian were mesmerized-- and stunned-- to learn of your existence.
Rhysand was one of them. Cauldron, the High Lord of the Night Court was smitten from the moment that he saw you enter alongside your brothers, your head bowed as you walked through the crowd. He had to have you.
And he did just that. It was just pleasantries at first, he was kind to you-- much to Beron's dismay and Eris' chagrin. Everyone knew what the Night Court was made of, and how Rhysand ruled over it. Eris would rather kill the High Lord of Night than let him near you, caring not for court relations but for your well-being. He remembered what happened to Morrigan in the Night Court, tortured by her own family.
He would never let you set foot there.
The second ball you attended was in the Summer Court. Eris had been tasked by Beron to woo some Winter Court aristocrat's daughter, so he was quite busy. Which meant you could slip away without anyone noticing, explore the palace and finally not be babysat by your brother.
You had found a balcony that overlooked the city of Adriata when you heard, "There you are... I've been looking for you," in that deep voice you had been incessantly thinking about ever since your first outing.
You turned to find Rhysand standing there, clad in black leather, his violet eyes shining bright while a feline smirk grazed his perfectly sculpted features. You blinked, your doe eyes shining for him.
He smiled wide, and you instantly knew you were done for. You would be his.
And you were. You and Rhysand began a secret relationship, a secret and dangerous relationship. You let him in, let him into your mind, let him be the one to take your purity. You were Rhysand's and he was yours. Not only that, but you saw each other in secret at different gatherings. And sometimes he winnowed into Autumn territory in the dead of night to see you, not caring for the consequences of his actions. Of what Beron would do when he learned he had defiled you.
"I almost melted his mind when I saw him eyeing you," Rhysand growled, kissing you neck in a feverish manner. You let out a low whine, your fingers running through his onyx  silky hair. "I can't wait to claim you," he spoke breathlessly, "to make you my wife."
You moaned wantonly when one of his hands found its way under your skirts while the other worked to unbutton the top of your dress. "Take me to your court," you pleaded, hooking your leg on his lower waist and pulling him closer to you.
"I'll take you, steal you away from this place... make you the Lady of Night..." he groaned, one hand snaking to your neck, holding you steady as he kissed down your neck and then your shoulders. You whined and writhed under his touch, then he said, "be quiet, baby... wouldn't want your daddy to find you like this..."
No, you wouldn't. There was a ball happening, this time in your home, and you had slipped away just so Rhysand could follow you and corner you in a dimly lit hallway. Your arms snaked around his neck, pulling him closer into yourself, like you were a sick woman and the only remedy was Rhysand close to you.
"Sister." The voice of Fenix, your second-eldest brother, ran through the hallway. You jumped, pushing Rhys off of your body as if he had the plague. Rhysand turned to the Vanserra male, a smirk on his face, as if he hadn't been caught in a very compromising situation.
Fenix hummed, his eyes narrowed on you, "interesting."
"Fenix..." you warned him, your eyes travelling to his hands that were now curled into tight fists. You were sure any second now he would send fire your lover's way. "You have one second to disappear before I lynch you and send you back to your cauldron forsaken court," your brother said in a dangerously low tone.
Rhys was unbothered. "I think I'll be taking your sister with me then," he said, wrapping one strong arm around your waist. "Over my fucking dead body, Rhysand."
You closed your eyes in defeat when you heard Eris' voice boom through the hallway.  A feline smile happened upon Rhys's lips, "that can be arranged."
You turned to Eris, your eyes silently pleading with him, but it was for naught because he was only glaring at the man that had his arm wrapped tightly around you. "Drop my sister, Rhysand. Or there will be hell to pay." Eris warned slowly.
"Eris, I love him!" You shrieked, only for Fenix to let out a low growl. "And I'll lynch him," he threatened, only for Rhys to laugh.
"I would love to see you try. We're leavin-" Before Rhys could finish, a beam of fire was sent his way, though it misted before it could even touch him. You cried in horror when you saw your father standing at the end of the hallway, backed by the remaining of your brothers. Seldom from Lucien, who was not in Autumn anymore. "You dare touch my daughter?!" Beron roared, the walls of the palace shaking from the sheer force of his words.
Rhysand grinned at him, "we can all talk about this like adults."
Wishful thinking. Your brothers wasted no time in their attack on the Night Court's High Lord, sending flames at him-- though they were no match for Rhysand. He swiftly pushed you out of the way and winnowed around the hall, avoiding each attack. "Please stop!" You cried in horror, but to no avail. They wanted Rhysand dead.
"You are BANISHED from this court, for now and forever." Your father's voice thundered through the palace, and instantly the flames died down-- leaving only a very shocked Rhysand. "Beron... we can talk abo-"
"Leave now, or I send Eris to your court with our army. Leave or we are at war," at your father's threat, you turned to Rhysand in horror. You knew he could kill your entire family with a single blink, that he could really take you and form a war between courts-- and win it.
He spoke in your mind. "Give me the word and I will take you away, bunny. I am not scared of your father or his weak threats."
"Go. I will fix this." You responded.
Rhysand turned to Beron, bowed with a wicked grin on his face, and winnowed away. You stared at the space he had just been standing in longing, before a grip yanked you forward. You whimpered as you looked up at your father's rage - filled expression. "How do you dare?" He asked in a tone that he had never once used on you. You trembled, his grip burning into your skin, causing you to wince in pain.
Eris stepped between the two of you, pulling you behind his frame to shield you from your father's wrath. Beron's glare burned through Eris, and you could almost feel it burning your skin. "You will marry someone of my choosing. Until then, you will remain in your rooms." Beron spoke, his tone offering no room for bargaining.
"But Daddy, I love him!" You cried, stepping from behind your older brother to face your father's rage. Beron growled, "what do you know about love? You're a woman! There's no choice for you in this matter!"
You scoffed, he raised you just to cage you. "I love him!" You pressed again, and he simply rolled his eyes at you, "you know nothing of the world."
"I love him, and I'm having his baby!" You shrieked, and horror instantly was etched unto your father's expression. Your brothers all looked as if they had seen a ghost, eyes wide and mouths hung open at your revelation. Eris covered his face with his hands, "I'll kill him..."
"I'm not..." you admitted, "but cauldron, you should see your faces."
Beron was frozen in shock at your boldness. He was not dealing with this. So to Eris growled, "deal with her."
Your father winnowed away along with the rest of your brothers, leaving the eldest and you to sort out this mess. Before you knew it, your brother winnowed you away and into your room. "Sister, please come to your senses..." Eris started.
"No, I am not coming to my senses," you snapped at Eris.
"Rhysand is crazy, the entire Night Court is full of depraved individuals. Remember what happened to Morrigan? How they left her at our border? They'll do the same to you..." Eris trailed, his expression one full of pain and sheer anger.
"I am not Morrigan! He would never hurt me... and Rhysand said he wasn't the one that hurt her. Eris, I know he may seem crazy, but he's the one I want. I love him! And he loves me!" You contested, your voice cracking as tears once more swelled in your eyes. Rhysand was chaos, he was revelry... and he was also the love of your life.
Eris let out a frustrated groan, he could not believe his sweet sister was so hung up on the cruelest High Lord there ever was in the history of Prythian. "Sleep on it, sister. Because Beron will never let you wed him," and with that, your brother left your room, slamming the door on his way out. Slamming the door on you and your future.
You were summoned early in the morning to breakfast with your family, you attended with your arguments sharp as knives-- ready to hurl them at your father. As soon as you entered the Dining Hall, your brothers erupted into their arguments, all of them reminding you of all the things Rhysand had done in his life.
Your father looked smug as your five brothers scolded you for wanting the Night Court's leader. Your mother looked mortified, her face pained-- she just wanted you to be happy.
"He melts minds," said Fenix.
"He has those two bat boys, they are evil and kill innocents," said Zire.
"He lets his court torture women, look at Morrigan," said Lukas.
"I heard he keeps a hundred concubines in his palace," said Ember.
"He runs his court without any sort of morals," said Eris.
You thought it was rich coming from your brothers. They were the ones that tortured Lucien's lover, and the ones that ran him out of Autumn. They didn't know you knew that, though-- one of your servants had told you what had happened.
Their hypocrisy and vile words towards Rhysand made you seethe, sending flames flying from your hands and to the walls of the room as you stood up. "I'd rather burn my whole life down than listen to one more second of all your hypocritical bitching and moaning," you screeched.
Your brothers went still, their mouths all clamping shut as they stared at you in shock.
"You're a Vanserra," your father growled. "Whether you like it or not, you do my bidding, and if you think I'll let you wed Rhysand just because you want to, then you are dafter than you appear, child."
You remained silent, digesting your father's words. You had always known your father to be cruel. Knew he beat your brothers, knew he was the one that bid them to kill Jesminda and run Lucien out of the court. But you had never known his cruelty, no. You had always been his weakness, the child he truly did appear to love. Though now you knew that just because he didn't you, it didn't mean that he cared any more for you than he did your brothers.
"I may be a Vanserra," you trembled, "but I would gladly disgrace the name. You've already done it plenty."
Beron never once expected you to go against him like this, no, you were the good one. You were the dutiful daughter, the one he had kept hidden for years on end to protect. Where did you get all this conviction?  Your father stood from his seat at the end of the table, Eris doing the same thing— ready to intervene if he were to attack you.
Beron strode towards you quickly, and Eris tried to jump in between the two of you, but with a flick of his hand your father sent Eris flying to the wall. You gasped, meaning to rush to your brother, but your father grabbed you midway.
His grip was deathly, and as you looked up at him— your blood ran cold. And before you could even pull away, his hand struck you across the face.

what do you think about brattamer boys?👀 like reader is having a massive attitude and is being spoiled and the boys aren’t having any of it😋
Now that you bring it up……..
Ok here’s my contribution to Kinktober 🙈👀
Bat boys x Fem!reader head canon
I have IN DEPTH thoughts a feelings about what the different bay boys would consider brating and how they would respond to it.
18+ under the cuff, please and thank you 🦇💌
Rhysand
So, being a spoiled brat would be almost impossible with Rhys, because he loves to spoil you and would never say no to anything materialistic
He would just call you his princess with a kiss to your forehead and splash that cash.
BUT - there the best way to brat with Rhys is by making him jealous 😏😏😏
This man has a sincere fear of things being taken from him, and he’s not afraid to claim what is his.
So maybe you leave your hand on another males arm too long
Or you make sure Rhys sees you flashing that smile he thought was only reserved for him at someone else
Rhys would slide up next to you, casually sipping his drink as he scans the crowd, feigning nonchalance
“You don’t think I know what you’re doing, darling?”
“What’s that?” You blink back innocently
Rhys grins, shaking his head slightly, violent winking out of his eyes, instead filled with darkness. “Careful. You’re only making it worse for yourself,” He murmurs before drawing a long sip and walking away.
You decide to push your limits a few more times that night.
When the party winds down, Rhys is no where to be seen. So you make your way back to your room.
You don’t make it far, before your pulled flush against him, one arm firmly wrapped around your waist, the other squeezing at your jaw, turning your yelp into a whimper
“I told you you’d pay for your behaviour, pet.” He all but snarls into your ear.
He releases you, pushing you forward, herding you to your room
Rhys isn’t much of a spanker, but he adores squeezing and toying with your flesh so you wake up with an array of bruises and markings that are only his
He makes you suck him off for almost half an hour, pulling his cock out every time he was close to the edge, forbidding you to touch yourself the entire time desire your pleas and wetness pooling from you
And when he does fuck you, he does it against the window, claiming this is what you wanted since you had flirted with the half of Velaris that night anyway
He is soo attentive with aftercare, checking in on you, cleaning you, rubbing ointments to your bruising skin
He pulls you into his chest, cooing at the whimpers you make when he tries to tuck you in
“M’sorry sweetheart, but you were so naughty for daddy today, and we had to set that straight, didn’t we?”
You could barely nod in agreement, lost in that after-sex haze as you drifted off against his chest
Cassian
As the War General, and most skilled warrior in all of Prythian, Cassian has had his fair share of being the disciplinary figure throughout his life
Which is exactly why you choose to brat on the mountains of Velaris, during an excruciating hike
“I said keep moving, initiate,” Cassian’s eyes were fixed to you, his facing growing sterner by the second
You stayed seated on the ground, crossing your arms triumphantly. “No.”
Cassian rolled his eyes then - you had been playing this game for almost five minutes now
Fine,” He gritted, a hint of excitement laced in his voice
Cassian pried you from the floor and threw you over his shoulder before you could scramble away
“ Let me down!”
But he kept on walking, moving you both to a more private section of the landing you were on
“Oh no sweetheart, you wanted to stay, so we’re going to make the most it.”
He hauled you off him, bending you over a boulder and kicking your legs apart.
“Wider,” He growled in your ear as he leaned over you, coiling his hand in your hair like a bandage
It took all you had not to whimper in anticipation as he jerked your pants down and ran his hardened meat against your slit
It was certainly not the first time you had provoked him in this way, and you knew exactly what you were doing when you had started bratting
What you didn’t expect was for Cassian to take you in broad daylight, while the rest of the group hiked ahead
“So. Fucking. Stubborn.” He ground out between thrusts.
“Is. This. What. You. Wanted. Huh?” For. me .to .fuck .you?”
“Poor baby, doesn’t even know how to ask for what she wants. That’s aright honey, I’ve got everything you need right here, and I’ll give it to you, one way or another.”
It’s those very words that are your undoing -well, at least for your first orgasm
Azriel
Oh no
Oh no no no no no no no
You are in big fucking trouble
Because taming your brat isn’t just a kink for Azriel, it’s a fucking art form
As a spy, Azriel knows how to evoke certain behaviours, how to break and fold and bend his victims to get the information that he needs
Soo he delights in the process of getting you to break and fold and bend (for entirely different reasons)
Certain toys evoke a certain kind of moan from you, certain phrases make you whimper or look up at him with those big doe eyes, others make you close them so tight like you couldn’t bare how it makes you feel
All of this was a game to him - and he took his sweet time doing it
That’s why you know, when you started bratting from the morning, refusing to drink water, giving him cheek when he suggested you eat something beyond drinking coffee, and purposefully broke so many of his rules throughout the day, you were working up to a verrrrrry long night
And let’s be real, Azriel is a service dom. He only ever wants you to be well taken care off.
So that’s why when you refuse his care, he has to do his very best to set you straight
“And what else did you do today, baby girl? Did you drink any water?”
You would have answered, if it wasn’t for your own panties stuffed in your mouth, your hands bound behind your back as you lay ass-up, Azriel’s hand stroking your bum lightly, soothing the spank he just emitted
“Answer me, sweetheart.”
You shook your head, tears streaming down your face. This part hurt so good.
“Hmmmm,” Azriel growled, before landing another spank.
He cooes immediately, soothing it again. “You know I love you, right baby girl? So that’s why when you refuse to let daddy take care of you, I have to teach you a lesson.”
Azriel fucks you like a rag doll as he uses you for hours, telling you this is the “only way you’ll learn”
Did I mention edging?? Yeah you’re not cumming for at least the first few hours
But when he does start controlling your orgasms, he doesn’t stop.
He ignores your pleas to stop spanking and stop making you cum, but you really are just his toy for the rest of the night (and morning), as he proves to you exactly who’s in charge with a dominant tenderness only reserved for you
He rocks you after, saying how much he loves you and he’s sorry it had to be this way, and if you were a good girl the next day, he’d give you a treat
He’s incredibly observant the next day, watching you become soo agreeable and following everything he said.
You did it because you couldn’t bare another night like the last, and Azriel hid his smugness from you. Brat. Tamed.

Guilty as Sin
Tumblr media Tumblr media
CHAPTER ONE ; azriel x fem!reader
summary: the lost princess of the dawn court finds herself brazenly escaping her own personal living hell. seeking refuge, as well as peace to plot in the city of velaris—she meets azriel shadowsinger and through the throws of disdain and discomfort they are forced to work side by side, intertwined through their shared scars.
a/n: ok so this first chapter is literally all exposition and world building within this world, i’m so sorry :( i promise that it will very much so pick up. this series is mainly about me exploring different aspects of my writing, i’ve never written a long series before. my longest is 50k and each chapter was about 2k words so this is something i feel really proud to put out, even if it is just the first chapter. if you’d like to be tagged please let me know!! this fic isn’t necessarily inspired by, but is a lot like taylor swift’s new song “guilty as sin?”. feedback always appreciated:)
warnings: strong language, mentions of trauma regarding men, heavy themes of ptsd and suicidal thoughts

Run.
The word cut through your mind, slicing through each and every thought you possessed as you gazed downwards at your bloodied hands. There was so much blood. Hot, thick blood ran down your forearms, coating your face and the inside of your mouth. Your stomach lurched, however by the grace of the Gods, you fled.
In over fifty years, you had not left this camp. Since you were just a girl, at twelve years old, you had resided within the hidden stone of the warrior camp. Now you had no choice but to utter a quick prayer to the Mother and run fast and furiously forward without looking back. Only the knife you had just used remained sheathed at your hip as you felt the ground beneath your boot-clad feet. There was a cloak pulled around you, it covered your face well and kept you concealed.
What was that saying, you thought silently to yourself in between painful dry heaves. ‘Feet don’t fail me now.’
It was nightfall and you ran tirelessly through the forest you had been warned to never brave on your own. As a child, your mother had warned that you must not meet what lurks after dark. She told you that not even those beasts would mind slaying the Princess of the Dawn Court. To them, the title was useless and your blood was just the same. Blood. You reeked of those warriors' blood and sweat and desperation. It was clad to your skin like a layer of oil or grime, the taste of iron making you spit.
A part of you wondered if you would die out in this forest, no idea where you were or what place Cousin Thesan had brought you so many decades ago. Stopping to lean against a tree, you panted and let the silent tears flow at once. Where were you? For all you knew, he had dropped you within the Continents and only used very good wards to keep the camp hidden. Why had you let them take you? What hadn’t you fought harder against Thesan’s word as Amarantha began exercising power among Prythian.
You had no answer, but only began to run once again. There was no choice, unless you planned to slit your own throat and simply give up. No. You are a warrior, you are a fighter and nothing would keep you from finding your cousin and demanding answers for his crimes. That’s what his actions were to you, criminal and inhumane and you would not be surprised if in the end–you adorned his blood on your hands as well.
“Who dares enter this part of my forest?” A voice drawled from nowhere in particular, causing you to flinch and raise the dagger shakily in defense. “What is your name, girl?”
The voice came from the trees, you swore to yourself. It came in whisps and wind, the blackness of the forest making it impossible for you to determine where exactly the source was. If there was a source. It omitted what you swore was a chuckle, an unfamiliar sound to you for so long. Sweat collected at the nape of your neck and temples, hair stuck down to your forehead and your skin blazed as you continued to rotate in full circles with your dagger pointed at nothing.
“Y/N, Princess of Dawn and Bringer of Light. What is your business in dwelling here? This is no place for a young Fae girl. Especially one so sweet as yourself, and you wear the blood of ten men. It is as if you hope to die tonight,” the voice whispered, a hot, invisible breath on your neck. “Do you hope to die tonight?”
“No,” you finally spoke into the abyss. “I hope to locate my homelands, I am in search of the High Lord of the Dawn Court. Show yourself.”
The voice ignored your demand, “leave this forest, Princess. For the ones hunting you are far worse than those warriors you slaughtered miles back.”
The stiff cloth of your dress began to itch beneath your robes and you stood taller than before as the voice surrounded you. Perhaps you would die tonight, at least you would have gone out thrashing and fighting until your final breath. There was a mild ache behind your brow and the night sky showed no signs of daybreak.
“And why have you refrained from killing me?” You finally asked, shifting back and forth and contemplating whether or not to begin running again.
“I possess no body. I am nothing but the wind and the trees and the breeze against your skin,” it hummed, cynically. “Cross the river up ahead and veer left, the path will lead you out of the forest and into the countryside where at least you will not be hunted for sport and strewn up and cut open for the creatures that dwell here to eat you alive.”
A cold chill ran up your spine and left your fingers to form fists. The spirit-like being was gone as fast as it had stumbled upon you. How did you know, you wondered idly for a moment. Its presence was absent, the air feeling more desolate and empty than it had moments before. It could very well be a trick, a way to lure you into its very trap and do exactly as it said.
You continued on to the river and went left, just as the being had told you to, as it had cooed into the shell of your ear. It was only about a mile later and you were coming into a dark clearing where animals lay sleeping along large acres of land. There were cows and sheeps first, then you saw pens of pigs and chicken coops further. Looking back, you saw how truly terrifying the forest was in comparison to the moonlit field. There were a set of yellow eyes staring out at you, but as soon as you blinked they were gone as if they were never there to begin with. While you knew you would never know, you threw a prayer up to the Mother regardless and hoped that the breeze-like thing that had most likely saved your life was at peace.
There was very little you could do besides walk along the outskirts of the land and hope to find some inclination of where to locate your court. Your court. The Dawn Court was filled with your people, people who had not seen you in five decades. The memories of your childhood were like knives in your gut, twisting and turning until finally you expelled them from your mind and breathed in deeply. The trek was long and you walked all through the night with no direction of where to go or what to do with yourself. There were not exactly any signs pointing you towards your home, or once home. Now you had no home, the camp was much more like a prison than a home to you.
“Are you lost?” A little Fae girl spoke, taking in your appearance as she found you still walking along the countryside that next morning. She did not appear to be scared, however she was very young and held a basket of wildflowers in her hand.
“Yes,” you almost cried at the sight of her, another human and a female at that. It had been fifty three years since you had encountered someone of the same sex. “Where am I?”
“I live just beyond that hill. You are in the Dawn Court,” she said wearily, pointing over and beyond the hill that sat a few hundred yards away. “Should I fetch my father to help you?”
“No,” you said, knowing well what you had done the night prior and how you appeared. “I am looking to get to the Dawn Court Palace, do you know where I might be able to find it?”
The girl, no more than nine, looked over you once again and it was as if she was assessing your soul. She drew her lips into a fine line and set the basket down to begin spouting off some directions. You nodded, taking in all of them with careful consideration and noting that the spirit had led you onto the right track for some odd reason. Once the girl had finished, she merely bowed her head and turned back towards her house.
.·:*¨☆◦✦◦☆¨*:·.
The Palace was nothing like you had remembered it. It was so much brighter and broader than you recalled within the narrow escape of your child-mind. The Dawn Court Palace gleamed under the beaming sun that had been burning your skin for hours as you followed the little girl’s instructions.
It was so vast and yet it seemed to call out to you, there was a long way to get to even one of the many stairs leading up to the Palace and so many guards standing tall at every entrance you could see. There was no way in, you thought. Not when you look as you do. Would any of these men even know who you are, you wondered.
“Who goes there?” A loud voice bellowed, bringing you away from your thoughts.
Who says who goes there, you thought. Prick.
Well it looks like Cousin Thesan spared no expense in making sure no one went in unnoticed, you rolled your eyes internally and spun on your heels to meet the look of the brooding male who wielded his weapon against you. He did not recognize you, as you had expected. His eyebrow had a long scar going through it and he held a blade in his hand, waiting for an explanation.
“Stand down!” You matched his tone, standing tall while the male practically laughed in your face.
“You are lucky that I have not already gutted you for crossing into our territory–”
The sound of you swallowing hard could be heard from even where he stood. You planted your feet and let all of those lessons on looking the part of royalty run over you. The guard was cut off by your sharp and fierce voice, “I am Y/N, Princess of Dawn! Stand down or don’t. I can’t say that I really care either way, but you very well might when I cut out your tongue and feed it back down your throat.”
The man went rigid for a moment and he took in a sharp breath. He seemed to be assessing you, his eyes scanned your frame while his weapon remained as it was. A part of you wondered if he thought you were bluffing, however the dried blood seemed to tell him everything he needed to know. He maintained his authoritative stance, only drawing back to call over some of his men. He whispered something into one male’s ear and his face went blanche. He looked over you with such careful consideration and shock, his eyes wide open and doe-like from where you stood.
“You claim to be the Lost Princess?” He finally spoke, tilting his head to the side to expose a long, fleshy scar across his neck.
“Well the last that I checked–I am the only Princess of the Dawn Court, however I am most certainly not lost, sir. I do wish to speak to my cousin, though,” you requested, earnestly. “As soon as possible.”
The Lost Fucking Princess. Who even comes up with this bullshit?
One of the males who adorned guard-like clothing brought you into the Palace wearily. He did not lay a hand on you, but motioned you to walk in front of him as if you posed some sort of threat. Perhaps you did, killing Thesan had crossed your mind once or twice. The idea of watching him writhe excited you quite a bit. The thought nearly brought a smile to your lips, only managing to suppress it when you began climbing the steps.
.·:*¨☆◦✦◦☆¨*:·.
The male brought you to a throne room, sunlight dancing along the walls and spilling onto the floors. Everything was so magnificent, the aura of the room was nothing short of golden. Blood boiled within you as you recalled all of the years you had wasted away to nothing, hidden in that rotting, despicable camp where all you ate was leftover meat scraps and watered-down soup for over fifty years.
Thesan sat at the forefront of the room, he wore a crown and spoke to the male at his right in a hushed whisper. It was almost as if he did not know you were here, like he was uninformed of your arrival in his court. When the male who brought you in nearly tripped over his feet to murmur into Thesan’s ear, you had your answer. Your cousin’s eyes snapped towards you in an instant, he rose to his feet immediately and you swore you could feel the blood pumping in your ears. With a hot face and white knuckles, you barreled towards him with the intent to kill.
“You promised me! You promised me!” Your magic rippled across the room as you shouted, pure rage causing the ground to shake. “You left me there to rot like vermin! How could you?”
With tunnel vision, the two men who had been holding you back were nearly invisible as the ground continued to shake violently. Thesan was silent, his eyes were wide with genuine revelation and disbelief. Thrashing and clawing and screaming was all you could do. He had taken years from you, good years that had been ripped away and stolen from you as a child.
“You’re nothing but a fucking liar, Thesan. We share blood! I am your family and you threw me out to the wolves. I was twelve years old and you abandoned me. I trusted you with my life. My life!” you cried and flinched at the guards’ hands. “Get your fucking hands off of me!”
The two men who held you were sent flying backwards by an invisible force, your magic had been provoked and was now rippling off of you in waves. Thesan approached with his hands out, he still had not spoken a word. With a wave, he cleared the room and it was only the two of you left standing.
“Y/N,” he said in a soft hush. “Please just allow me to explain–”
“Explain? Explain how you brought me to your sick fucking camp when I was a girl and lied to everyone under the guise of my protection? Explain how after three months, your letters and visits stopped? Oh, perhaps you plan to explain how you left me to live with ten cursed warriors for over five decades and I have to find out six days ago that Amarantha was defeated by a human girl years ago as I still sat by idly waiting for my dear Cousin Thesan to retrieve me from my own personal living hell?” The words were like knives, piercing Thesan one after another as you resisted the urge to rip out his throat. “Explain, go ahead.”
Thesan could not believe his eyes, nor the venom spewing from your lips. He surveyed your too-thin figure and cold eyes, how they had changed so much since he had last seen you as a small girl. Everything you said was true, to some degree. He could not deny any of it, however he had not realized how the camp had treated you. He had not banished you, but relocated you for reasons of his own before Amarantha could rise to full power. When Thesan caught word of what had begun under the mountain, he made rash decisions and sacrifices that he was not proud of and would have to live with for the rest of his immortal life.
“Y/N, I did send you away for your protection. Do you believe that my brother would have let me live if I sent his only child away to live in squalor while we all reside in a palace? I sent you away because my people were being ripped from their homes and your mere existence puts a target on your back,” he said, steadily. “A Princess, the sole heir to the Dawn Court. It is unheard of. When my brother’s mate–your mother–birthed a girl, our people were ecstatic. As years passed and Amarantha began her show of power, everyone grew antsy for my heir. I tried, I remain trying to produce an heir to this court.”
You shook your head, hot tears running down your dirt-crusted cheeks. “Not good enough,” your voice cracked.
“Please, just hear my words,” he begged you. “When you were twelve years old, I assumed tensions were at their height and our people grew restless. Amarantha had begun slaughtering innocent Fae across Prythian and with no heir, whispers surfaced of the Princess of the Dawn Court. A female heir, one who reeked of power at that. Males who would never kneel before a female began to place bounties on your head, terrified that I would be slayed and there would be no one but you to resume my place.”
Thesan breathed deep, but continued. “I told my brother that the safest option would be to make you disappear. We would claim that you were hunted by Amarantha’s loyal subjects, nowhere to be found. I gathered some of my strongest men who had committed wrongdoings within my court and banished them to the camp where they would be tied until I liberated you.”
“You locked me away with criminals!” You seethed, already knowing but surprised at his willingness to utter the words freely. “How do you think your filthy, touch-starved, vile men acted once I had first bled?”
“This is where I have committed wrong,” he whispered. “It was only supposed to be a year, maybe two while I gained footing and figured out a way to take back what Amarantha had stolen from me. Three months after I sent you away, she captured the entirety of this court. Every court, save for Spring, went Under the Mountain. You were concealed, hidden so well by my wards, that she never even bothered to go looking for you. She believed that her own subjects had killed and discarded you. That was the extent at which things had gotten, she merely trusted the death of the Princess of the Dawn Court was another insignificant casualty to her reign. Everyone believed you to be dead. My letters stopped because I was trapped, my power basically nothing compared to what it once was.”
The truth washed over you slowly, blinking away tears but staying put and shaking your head at him. It was still not good enough, it would never be good enough. For fifty-three years you had known nothing but scraps and gangly men and the dirt underneath your bleeding fingernails.
“It has been years since Amarantha was defeated,” you gritted out. “Defeated by a human girl–”
“Feyre Cursebreaker, High Lady of the Night Court and human no longer. Myself and the other High Lords used our power to bring her back from death as High Fae,” he told you. “I know you will never forgive me for not retrieving you immediately, however we entered a gruesome war against Hybern and have only just begun to recover and rehabilitate. It is no excuse, I know this. I hoped by now that I would have an heir, nothing has changed in regards to how your existence might be received by this court.”
He had left you there while everyone rejoiced in their freedoms, fought on the frontlines of battle, and then even still once we had won. Nothing but pure, unadulterated rage consumed you and yet all you could muster up was a pathetic noise straight from your throat. He had done all of this because he simply was not capable of bearing a child and assumed that you’re suffering was all the more worth it if he could fuck his way to the ideal future High Lord of Dawn. All men are the same, you thought with a sickness churning within you.
“You are a sick excuse for a man,” was all you spat. “Where are my parents?”
“Dead,” he lowered his head. “They died swiftly, soon after we arrived Under the Mountain.”
The gift that just keeps on giving, you thought whilst holding back a near sob. He gazed upon you with pity, finally taking you in wholly. The blood. There was so much blood and he could tell from the scent that it did not belong solely to you.
“What of the men at the camp?”
“Dead,” you replied, just as he had. “I cannot say they went swiftly, as I slaughtered them all.”
The images of blood spewing and spilled flashed across the forefront of your mind, the way that some of them went quick and others went begging for a semblance of mercy. You looked down at your palms, flexing your fingers and feeling the energy throughout your entire body. It pulsed at the tips of your fingers, throbbed in the heels of your feet, and thrummed at the backs of your eyes. Over the years, there had been no one to teach you to manage it so more often than not it consumed you whole.
You could kill him, you let the idea wash over you. Or at least you could try. In his home with all of his warriors, it would prove difficult. He was the High Lord, your High Lord–no, death was too swift and simple. You would need time to plan out your next steps, you pondered whilst maintaining a stone cold facade. You would have to play your cards right, he would deal with you based on how you acted as you stood before him. Truthfully, the idea of living with him puts you on the brink of physical sickness. You would rather die than be forced to stay under the same roof, lips curling slightly with disgust as he gave you another look filled with shame and guilt.
“I will not stay here,” was all you spat at him. “Not here, not in this court with you, I wish to be sent elsewhere.”
“Elsewhere? Do you understand what will come of your sudden return to our lands?” Thesan’s eyes were fixed on you, his voice near hoarse. “Y/N, I know that–”
“I will not stay here. I ask this one thing of you. I will not spread word of your pathetic sterileness, nor my title to the Dawn Court if you will simply offer me this one thing. Do you not owe it to me?”
While the immense grief and pain in your voice was authentic, you made sure to create the illusion of your complete and utter wreckage. Mustering up tears, you had to get out of this place. There was no possibility of your survival if not, not even at the hands of these so-called people out for your blood–but at the hands of yourself. Every bit of you was exhausted, conveying complete and utter devastation into your eyes as he debated your request.
Do you not owe it to me?
Thesan rubbed violently at the bridge of his nose and nodded to himself, he squeezed his eyes shut and for a moment you remembered the admiration you once felt for him. Admiration turned into blazing resentment and rage that had nearly created an earthquake. He wouldn’t force you to reside here under him, would he?
“I will do my best at making other… arrangements,” said Thesan after a few moments of tense silence. “I make no promises, as we may very well be approaching the brink of another war, however in the meantime you should wash up.”
A breath of relief escaped you, “what of the guards who know who I am? I told them.”
“I should like to call in a favor from Rhysand,” he murmured, almost as if he was speaking to himself.
.·:*¨☆◦✦◦☆¨*:·.
“Leave me, please” you said to the servants gently, thanking them for the filled tub and fresh gown that was laid out for you within the spare bedroom and adjacent bathing room.
Everything was so prim and proper and doused in sunlight, it made you nostalgic for a life that once was. The water was steaming, layers of blood and grime covering you as you sunk down into the tub. The magic of the tub was forced to refresh itself almost as soon as you sat, growing murky immediately as you began to scrub your skin raw.
Would it be easier to drown yourself, you breathed a shallow breath. No, someone was posted outside of the bedroom door listening in. A guard, most likely. He would hear, putting an end to your pathetic excuse of a suicide attempt and then Thesan would never let you leave. Or maybe he would, perhaps your untimely death was just what he hoped for in order to rid himself of the problems you presented him with.
Getting clean felt impossible, even with the tub enchanted to replace its filthy water. Your hair was oily and your skin remained covered in a film of grease. It took over an hour just for you to feel somewhat clean. At the camp, there had thankfully been a tub with running water and an enchantment of certain supplies so you never went without. Food, however, was hunted for you and everyone else. As the only female, every night you received what was left on the bone of whatever animal they had slaughtered in the nearby woods, eating last time and time again.
One of the servants came in to help you dress in the gown custom to the Dawn Court, it fell to your ankles and glistened with what you could have sworn was pure sunlight. The tall woman braided your hair back and applied rogue to your cheeks and an oil to your lips. As you gazed into the mirror before you, you could hardly recognize yourself for the first time in five decades. There was something so regal about you, a light cascading off of you like an aura of gold. Thesan possessed the same coloring, the light pouring out from him in bouts of power.
The woman knew who you were, you could tell that much from the way her eyes danced across your reflection. She said nothing, though. You thanked her, smiling softly as if she had not just seen you covered in days old blood and filth. The Lost Princess, you recalled what the male had referred to you as outside. She has no idea what to think of you, it seems. Maybe that was for the best, perhaps you were better as the shadow of a girl who once was but no longer existed. Instead, some sort of killer prowled beneath your now eternally crimson stained skin.
“The High Lord has called for you,” the woman said softly, pulling you from your thoughts and causing your eyes to drift to meet her gaze in the reflection of the mirror.
Once you had begun your trek back to the same room as earlier, the sun had begun to fall and the sky was painted endless shades of pink and orange. There was so much open space, all of the windows gaping to allow for as much sunlight as possible during the daytime. You had never felt so exhausted, eyes burning from the lack of sleep you had acquired on your journey and the use of power earlier on in the day.
When you entered the room, Thesan was in conversation with a man that you could only assume was Rhysand. He was attractive in an almost inconceivable way, like one of the Gods. None of the males at the camp had resembled anything like him, no one in the Dawn Court resembled anything like him. Lucky High Lady, you thought mindlessly. Rhysand seemed to chuckle at nothing, turning to meet your gaze.
“Princess,” he greeted you with the friendly upturning of his lips. “Welcome back from the dead is in order, I suppose. I’m Rhys.”
“Funny,” you huffed a stiff laugh at him and extended a hand for him to grasp. Power ricocheted off of Rhysand in a way that caused your stomach to flip. “Y/N.”
His eyes simmered with something like pity mixed with amusement, he was not blind to the fact that you still had not looked Thesan in his eyes. Rhysand had been steadfast in arriving at the Dawn Court, his solemn look told you that he had been briefed on some of what was going on. How much, though? What had Thesan deemed important enough to share and what was determined as insignificant. Clearly as you had been cast away as insignificant, he could not be trusted to relay information.
“Rhysand has consulted with his High Lady and they have agreed to offer you a place to stay in the Night Court for as long as you should require it,” Thesan informed you.
“At what cost?”
“No cost,” Rhysand assured you at once. “Thesan has… told me of your circumstances–”
“What circumstances?” You demanded, cutting him off. “What did he tell you?”
There was a tense silence as you grew flustered and aggravated by your cousin. Thesan knew nothing of your circumstances, he knew absolutely nothing of what you had endured. Rhysand had strangely given you a look of understanding, it was as if he knew exactly what you were thinking. Like he had been inside of your mind, reliving the experiences with you.
“He told me of your power, he told me you have yet to learn how to wield it as well. He says that he senses you may have inherited more than just his healing gifts, but that the nature of your identity is sensitive. I admit that I do have to agree with him in concealing your return, Princess–for now, at least,” Rhyand only looked to you, his words carefully chosen so as not to upset you. “I have a house in Velaris, the city where I live, it houses three people as of late. My two brothers, Azriel and Cassian, and my mate’s sister Nesta. You would stay there, it is secluded enough that you will have as much privacy as you desire. I spoke with my healer Madja, she has agreed to allow you to work under her in an apprenticeship of sorts. She’s one of the best, not just in Velaris but anywhere in Prythian. I feel you both may be able to benefit from each other, her experience and your magic. My cousin Mor has offered to train with you once she arrives home from Vallahan on business, until then one of my brothers–”
You cut him off again, “Training? I do not wish to offend you, but why should I need your family to train me?”
“Y/N,” he began, assessing how honest he should be. “You have no muscle built up whatsoever and considering the fact that you have no hold on your own power–I suspect that your ‘training’ consists of the intent to kill and luck. In Velaris you would learn to fight and hopefully hone some of that power.”
It was this or nothing, you knew that. Either you would remain in the Dawn Court, or you would go with Rhysand and figure it out from there. Thesan’s face was now unreadable as you looked between both of the High Lords.
“All the while I hide away so that no one knows my true identity?”
“No,” Rhysand responded. “You have matured, when you left this court you were only a girl. No one in Velaris will question you once I dim some of that power coming off of you. My inner circle knows your true identity, however to everyone else you will be ordinary High Fae. This is partially why you’ll work under Madja.”
Nodding slowly, you consider your options or lack thereof. Rhysand seemed genuine enough, you thought to yourself and could have swore he smiled slightly. Giving Thesan a once over, you met those violet eyes and nodded slowly.
“Alright, I’ll go to Velaris.”

Not long after this encounter, Y/N runs into Prince Azriel, heir to the throne. Of course she expects him to be as frightening as the other members of the Royal Family. But he is quite the opposite. While intimidating in stature, his personality is quiet and kind. An unexpected friendship ignites between the two. And that friendship eventually turns into more. There is only one issue— Azriel’s betrothed, Princess Elain.
Both Y/N and Azriel will need to overcome their complicated feelings for one another if the future of the kingdom will continue to live on. But the more Y/N thinks, the more unrealistic her feelings become. After all, she is a servant and Azriel is the future king. Their relationship should have never made any sense, yet it is all the other craves.

Chapter 6
No matter how hard you tried to block the bond, Azriel was practically shoving all his feelings to you. Anger, disappointment and resentment.
“Yeah I know how you feel about me shut up” you screamed hoping he could hear you. You shook your head and chuckled.
I’m going mad. Look at me I’m alone in my bedroom screaming. You thought.
Nah that’s just the effect Azriel has on anyone.
You froze. Did your brain just reply to you? Your brain is male?
No darling I’m not your brain. You are practically screaming all your thoughts for every daemati in Prythian to hear.
Rhysand?
Yeah, since you destroyed my peaceful nap why don’t you tell me what’s really bothering you?
You huffed.
Azriel is bothering me. I don’t want that stupid bond. I don’t want to be tied to a male now that I’m taking control of my life.
Azriel would never try to control you, on the contrary he would love to help you become stronger and independent.
He didn’t comment on the bond, so he already knew you figured.
He resents me, and even if he didn’t how could I be with a male that treated me like shit ever since I stepped foot in your court.
That’s between the two of you. Now next time you decide to think so loudly please raise a shield around your mind I really need my beauty sleep.
You snorted at that, and a smile appeared on your lips.
How do I do that?
Think of a wall around your mind.
Okay thank you.
I hope everything works out for the two of you.
You didn’t reply.
You glanced outside and noticed the sun setting. You realized that you had stayed in your room for the whole day and with a sigh you got ready.
You peeked your head out of your room checking for any sign of Azriel, when you were sure that he wasn’t lurking around you stepped out and started walking down the hall. You found the door of the house quite easily and stepped outside.
10.000 steps. I can do this.
You started walking down the stairs, at some point you lost count of the steps, you were panting, and your knees trembled.
I can do this.
You gritted your teeth and forced yourself further down. Black dots appeared in your vision, and you felt yourself slipping, you tried to grab the stones around you but you couldn’t hold on. You closed your eyes waiting for the impact. Something hard hit your back and then strong arms wrapped around your waist. You opened your eyes again and you were in the air. Azriel’s scent of cedar and whiskey filled your nostrils and your body relaxed automatically.
When your feet touched the ground of the main street of Velaris Azriel gripped your elbow and turned you, so you were facing him. His face was filled with anger as he stared down at you.
“What the fuck were you thinking?” He growled.
“I just wanted to go for a stroll in the city, I didn’t want to bother any of you.” You confessed. Your voice steady and loud and you kept your eyes on his as you spoke.
“Did you really believe that you could go down 10.000 steps?” He exclaimed and threw his hands in the air making some faes look at the two of you.
“I don’t know I just wanted to try” you glanced at the ground as you realized how stupid it was.
“Next time find one of us, and if you can’t just pull the bond” he was calm now. His hand moved to your face, and he pushed a strand of hair behind your ear.
“Thank you” you smiled and stared into his eyes.
He held your stare and you both stood there frozen for a few minutes. Nesta’s words replayed in your mind making your heart clench. You took a step back and cleared your throat.
“I should go, you probably have more important things to do” you said and hurried off before Azriel could reply.
You strolled around the city, smiling at the small children who were running around the streets. You found Rita’s easily and stepped inside, your eyes immediately scanning the bar searching for Aeden. You spotted him and walked to the bar, taking a stool and sitting right in front of him.
“Do I expect the lovely company of the shadowsinger too or just you?” he quirked a brow.
“Just me” you smiled.
“Okay then” he returned your smile. “Mood?”
“Hm definitely better than the last time” you replied.
He grabbed two bottles and filled two glasses, he grabbed a straw and stirred, placing it in his mouth when he was done and tasting. He hummed and placed one of the glasses in front of you, keeping the other for him.
“Did I get you in trouble with the shadowsinger?” he asked with a worried expression.
“Not at all, he just took me home and let me sleep” you shrugged.
“Okay then.” he replied and then stared at you. “I don’t think that this was how a babysitter would act…”
“I know. He is my mate” you replied, and Aeden choked on his drink.
“You could fucking start with that” he exclaimed. “You tell me that you have a babysitter and never mention that said babysitter is the fucking god of death, and now you let me speak about him without mentioning that he is your mate” his voice was practically a high pitch noise at the end of the sentence.
“God of death?” you furrowed your eyebrows and Aeden nodded.
“Anyway, I didn’t think it was important, I’m going to reject him” you shrugged.
“Why?”
“You just called him the fucking god of death and now you’re asking me why?” you snorted.
“You females love dark and dangerous males.” He replied.
“True, but only when they treat us differently than everyone else. In my case this doesn’t happen, he is making my life a nightmare.”
“But…why?” Aeden’s face was filled with confusion.
“I don’t really know. I suppose he doesn’t like the way I was raised, and he thinks I’m weak.”
“That’s not a valid reason” he shook his head.
“I know!” you huffed “What about you? Do you have a mate?”
“My mate died in the war with the king of Hybern” Aeden frowned. “He was an Illyrian warrior.”
“He?” you asked with wide eyes.
“Yup, my mate was a male”.
“I didn’t know this was possible” you said.
“Two males falling in love?” Aeden quirked his brow.
“No, I know this can happen, being mates I meant” you explained.
“Oh yeah I didn’t know either.” He shrugged. “So you prefer the company of males, or it was just the bond?” your question was genuine, and Aeden smiled.
“Trying to get into my pants dollface?” he asked and chuckled by your shocked expression. “I like both males and females so you might actually have a chance” he winked. You shook your head with a grin.
“But if I was in your place, I wouldn’t lose the opportunity to get that shadowsinger into my bed. He is so fucking hot” he continued.
“Tell me about it” you mumbled and then gasped, your hand shooting up and covering your mouth.
Aeden burst into laughter at your confession and clapped his hands.
“Shut up” you whined and hid your face with your hands.
You stayed with Aeden for a few hours and when the club filled with faes you kissed him goodbye and left. You really enjoyed your time with him. You walked around the city with a smile on your face, happy that you made a new friend. As the night settled for good you reached the first steps of the house of wind and glared at them.
One day. You thought and glanced up.
You didn’t want to tug the bond in case Azriel was with Gwyn, you didn’t want to interrupt them especially if Gwyn has feelings for him. You ignored the ache in your chest at the thought and opened the shield around your mind.
Rhysand! You shouted.
You don’t have to shout. He whined.
Sorry, I need someone to take me to the house.
Okay.
The beating sound of wings filled the silence and Azriel landed in front of you.
“Rhysand called me” he explained when he noticed your confusion.
The first buttons of his shirt were undone, his toned chest on display and his hair a tangled mess. You bit your lip and removed your gaze from him. “I’m sorry I didn’t want to interrupt” you said.
“Interrupt what?” he asked.
“Whatever you were doing.” You replied and stepped closer. He picked you up and shot to the sky. When you landed you quickly removed yourself from his arms and walked inside.
“You’ve been drinking” he noted.
“Yeah I was at Rita’s”
A low growl escaped his throat.
“With that bartender?” he asked, and you snorted. The nerve that male has.
“How’s Gwyn?” you blurted out before you could stop yourself. Azriel stared at you with a confused look.
“Okay I guess?” he replied, “How is that relevant?”
“Forget about it” you sighed and started walking towards your room.
“Why did you ask me about Gwyn?” he pressed following you.
“Because I know you’re fucking her.” You shouted.
“What?” his eyes narrowed “even if I did, its none of your business”.
“The same goes about who I am fucking”.
In a blink Azriel had you pressed against the wall , his face inches away from yours and his shadows covering both of you. You could only see, feel and smell him, nothing else.
“Are you fucking him?” he snarled.
“Its none of your business” you smirked surprising both you and him. “Answer me” he yelled and punched the wall beside your head. The spot on the wall collapsed and you flinched. His face became red and his eyes watered.
“Fucking answer me” he yelled again, and a few tears escaped.
You gaped at him. You couldn’t understand why he was acting like that.
“Azriel you’re scaring me” you whispered.
He stared into your eyes for a few seconds and pushed himself off you. He gestured at your door, and you walked in shutting and locking it.
You leaned against the door and closed your eyes, trying to calm yourself.
You heard a small thud, and the door shook slightly. You felt his presence through the bond and realized that he was leaning against the door too.
What’s happening? You thought and a tear escaped.
If I forgot to tag someone please let me know! I hope you enjoyed the chapter!

Rhys in grey sweatpants, I had that image put in my head now I want to spread the gospel 🧎🏻‍♀️🧎🏻‍♀️
Just him with his sleep hair and voice in nothing but his grey sweatpants 😮‍💨
UMMMMMM
Rhysand is totally the best dressed of all the males in the night court and possibly Prythian.
Only Eris rivals him in the clothing department and I stand firm on that statement.
He just knows what gets you going. He knows the colors that suit him and he is not afraid to work it.
I feel like for the most part, Rhys really plays the role of high lord well. And he dresses the part too.
All of his clothes are freshly tailored and laundered. He never really wears the same outfit twice. And when he meets you???
He makes sure that you have all the clothes that you could ever want or need. He also insists on matching most days. You basically are THE moment in Prythian, everyone who isn't you wants to BE you. And it is all thanks to Rhysie's impeccable fashion sense. All your clothes make you look like the star of the night, pun not intended.
And all of your shoes and jewelry he has designed for you? Don't even get me started. Each outfit needs its own individualized look and feel and vibe. And he makes sure that is there for you. He is always there to help you put together your look.
Playing dress up for him is sooooo much fun. He has you doing twirls in your dresses and gets on his knees to help you put your heels on. He kisses every portion of your exposed neck whenever he clasps on your necklaces for you. You are treated like an utter princess around him, never having to lift a finger beyond your desire.
He also loves to help you with your earrings. And he is so gentle with it too. His pretty violet eyes focusing on your ear lobe as he ever so carefully puts in your earrings. He makes sure that they don't feel to heavy or cause any irritation to your ear as you are sensitive to different kinds of metals. When he is done, his eyes focus back on you with this look of utter pride that you are his. You are his mate. His high lady. His everything. And he is just obsessed.
You are lucky if you can make it to ANY event on time because this male will find any excuse to show you just how obsessed he is.
Back to Rhys' fashion sense...
He really rarely wears clothes that are "lounge wear." TBH, I feel like he started moreso a little after meeting you because he sees what it does to you.
Rhysie is the kind of male who can look good in practically anything. But in lounge wear??? send freaking help he is the hottest male to have ever EXISTED!!!
His gray sweatpants are one of your favs on him. He is always wearing it with a tight black or navy blue t-shirt that clings to his chest and shoulders and biceps. You can basically see the outline of his abs whenever he wears those shirts (which you will be riding later so help you gods).
And omg just think of all of his tattoos exposed on his corded forearms. And think about those muscles flexing while he fingers you speechless.
Anyway, poor rhysie needs to replace his sweatpants any time he wears them because they always end up stained from you riding his thigh.
But he knows that.
Thats why he wears them, slutty smug bastard. The smirk any time he pulls them out and surprises you by wearing them is enough to know that he knows exactly what he does to you. And he is proud of it too.
His formal clothing is not to be forgotten.
His tight fitting dress shirts where he leaves the top two buttons open so that you can see his smooth tan chest underneath??? The dark swirls intricately peaking out and climbing up his neck??? The small silver chain he wears??? The one that has your name engraved over and over, all along the metal because he belongs to you??? Because he knows that every part of him, his heart and soul, is all entirely owned by you???
The only ring he wears is his wedding ring too.
Sigh, I need a Rhys.
This was terrible but I love Rhysand so you are gonna get my unhinged thoughts about him always.

imagine being Rhys and Feyres sweet little housewife 🤭🤭🤭 baking and cooking for them, making the home clean and peaceful for them, going shopping, sitting on Rhys’ lap whilst he works, sucking on Feyres tits whilst she paints being spoiled and babied ALL the TIME, extreme princess treatment, it’s not a want it’s a need 🤍🤍🤍
Housewife headcanon
Feysand x reader
A/n: I don’t want to be a housewife BUT I would be for them
Warnings: fluff and slightly nsfw at the end
After a year of dating Rhys and Feyre they convinced you to move in
When you did they were adamant about you making yourself at home because the River House is your house too
Since acts of service is your love language you easily became incorporated in their daily routines which they love
You get up early before Rhys goes to training and make him a small breakfast and coffee. The first time you did this he was surprised. “Darling you didn’t have to do this.” He said, kissing your temple before eating. “I know, but I wanted to. I know you don’t eat before working out and that’s not good for you Rhysie.”
Before he leaves you give him a kiss and tell him “have a great day baby, I love you.”
Then you go back to bed to cuddle with Feyre for another hour until she gets up
You bring up coffee or tea - whatever she’s in the mood for - and the two of you get ready together. Sometimes Feyre does your makeup if you feel like it. You love having her hands all over you, she’s soft with you when she plays with your hair and holds you
When Rhys comes home the three of you sit down for a proper breakfast and talk about what your plans are for the day
Your first few weeks you took it upon yourself to add more furniture into some of the rooms and make the living room a little less old gothic looking
You got a new rug, new arm chairs, and a big comfy couch with new blankets and you hung a few of Feyre’s paintings
Over the months you worked on de-gothifying the place and making it more homey
When that project was done you could tell Rhys and Feyre felt more relaxed at home. All those dark colors must’ve reminded them of literally everything bad and work of course
You also love to cook! Going to the farmers market is your favorite. Fresh bread and foods from all over Prythian at your fingertips
Once a week you make a big meal for the 3 of you with stuff you bought from the market. You also make dessert which is usually ice cream, brownies, or cookies
Feyre and Rhys have always showed you so much love and affection, even before you moved in
To show you that they appreciate everything you do they dial up your Princess treatment to what feels like a million
They buy you any and everything you could ever want
They love taking you out for shopping trips in the city together but sometimes they get so busy you go on your own
You like going on your own sometimes, that way you can get them little surprise gifts
Other days you feel like doing nothing but sitting around the house or being with one of them while they worked
With Feyre you helped her with correspondence or planning lessons and gallery’s for the art studio
Sometimes the two of you would snuggle and read together on the couch in her office
Other times creativity would hit and Feyre would ask you to pose for a sketch for a painting. As she paints you sit with her just in awe of her talent
“You’re amazing Fey. I don’t know how you do it,” you say to her. Feyre turns her head to quickly press her lips to yours as thanks. “Thank you my love, I couldn’t do it without my muse,” she teases
When you compliment her she’d boop your nose with whatever paint she was using and you’d giggle while blushing like crazy
That usually ended with the two of you covered in paint naked on the floor
With Rhys you love taking naps in his office either on the plush leather couch by the fire or sitting on his lap
You read or help him sort paperwork and write letters to the other high lords
Usually working with Rhys is pretty boring unless your in his lap staring up at him with heart eyes, admiring that beautiful jaw line and sparkling eyes
“I can feel you staring darling,” Rhys lightly chuckles out. Your cheeks turn pink a little and you hide your face in his neck. “I can’t help it you’re just so damn pretty.” You mumble. “Another laugh shakes Rhys’s chest. “Hey, look at me.” You slowly pull away from his neck and meet his violet eyes
Rhys shifts you so you’re straddling him with your back to his desk. His hand comes up to softly hold your chin, forcing you to keep eye contact with him. “I love it when you stare at me pretty girl. Reminds me of how much you love me. Do you stare at Feyre too?”
You nod, a soft smile pulling at your lips as he inches his face closer to yours. “Mmhh, and what does Feyre darling do when you stare at her like that?” Rhys gently kisses you as he taps on your mental shields, asking to see what you did with Feyre yesterday
You happily show him, hoping you can end up in the same position with him
You also show him images of the 3 of you together in bed hoping that you can have both of them sooner rather than later

Bats & Fire 02
"Food Feuds"
warnings: none
wc: an unhealthy amount to write in one day (3.4k)
Tumblr media
Going to a restaurant for the first time with your mates was an… interesting… experience.
Rhys, being your first mate, had to navigate this new, brave world on his own…
“This is Stacie’s,” Rhysand says, thumb rubbing your waist as the two of you approach the restaurant he had picked for your fourth official date. “It’s one of the nicest restaurants in town.”
“It’s beautiful,” you reply with a wide smile, gaze dancing across the gilded front of the restaurant. “It looks like it was made for royals.”
Rhys gives you a pointed look.
“……..And I am with a royal.”
“Yes, you are, princess.”
The two of you go to the host counter, and the hostess immediately recognizes Rhys. She curtsies, and then says “right this way” and leads you into a private room. The walls are a deep green, the floor a dark wood, and the ceiling is glass, allowing you to look up at the night sky above.
“Wow,” you whisper, tilting your head back to admire the glittering stars.
“I had a feeling you would like this,” Rhys chuckles, then pulls out your chair for you. You sit immediately, and he pushes you in.
What a gentleman!
“Thank you for taking me here.”
“Of course. Here—they have a rather extensive menu, take a look.” He hands you a rolled up piece of paper, which you take.
The menu is extensive. More than extensive. Anything you could really think of is listed here. You spend a few minutes looking — meanwhile ordering a glass of your favorite wine. You settle on one of your favorite dishes, but make note to ask for it without the Fuska root, a common addition to dishes in Prythian that you really didn’t care for.
You make small talk with Rhys, just discussing life in general, and learning more about each other. You order your meals, and not even ten minutes later, they come out on a tray.
You can smell it immediately.
“Thank you,” you murmur, waiting until the server leaves to frown.
Rhys immediately notices. “What’s wrong? Is it the food? Is it me? What can I do?”
“No, no, it’s okay—” You put on a smile, picking up a bit of your food on a fork. “They just kept the Fuska root on it. I’m not a big fan, but it’s still edible.”
Rhys is up in an instant, taking your plate and heading for the doorway.
“Rhys, no, that’s not—”
“Nonsense. You deserve the best, and I’m not letting you eat something that they fucked up.”
He leaves before you can even get out another word.
And then doesn’t come back.
You repeatedly glance at the clock, occasionally stealing a bite of his food to tame your growling stomach. After five minutes, you grow concerned, and stave off your boredom by folding origami with the napkins.
You’re on your fifth napkin swan when the door swings open, and in comes Rhys, the server from before, a chef, and a woman who looks to be the manager.
“Mademoiselle,” the chef starts, bowing deeply. “I am very sorry.”
The other two bow as well, the manager rambling on about her apologies and free food and restaurant gift cards.
“Oh, dear Mother,” you mutter, then plaster on a sweet smile. “No, no need. Thank you so much for all your hard work.”
After a few more profuse apologies, the staff scurry off, leaving you and Rhys alone.
“That was…”
“They made a new dish for you. It should be just how you ordered it now,” he smiles, starting to eat his food.
You smile back, and dig in.
An hour later, the check comes. You reach for it, but it’s already in his hand.
“Rhys—”
“I’m paying.”
“Rhys, no—”
“I said that I’m paying. You don’t have the talking ribbon.”
“Excuse me—”
But he’s already signed it and handed it back to the server. You bare your teeth at him, but he just chuckles.
“This, my darling,” he gestures to the server, walking away with the check. “This is a fight you will never win.”
Tumblr media
Azriel was next to take you out. He chose a gorgeous riverside restaurant by the Sidra, and it took your breath away…
“Wow,” you whisper, mouth agape as you stare out at the water. “This is stunning.”
“I thought you might like it.”
You smile, turning back to him. “Thank you for taking me here. I really appreciate it.”
“Of course.”
You make small talk, and as it’s only your second date, there’s a lot to discuss. You ask what it’s like to fly, to which he says he could fly you home that night. You ask about his work, his childhood, dancing around the topic of the scars on his hands.
The server comes, and you both order, once again asking for no Fuska root on your food.
Azriel pays attention to every word out of your mouth like it’s from the Mother herself. He’s practically taking notes. Just before your food comes, he pulls out a small jewelry box, opening it to reveal a dainty necklace smelling of magic, with a little blue gemstone pendant.
“Is it enchanted?” you ask, gingerly taking the silver chain and holding it up to the light.
“Yes. It’s spelled to be durable, unbreakable. You can wear it while working and won’t have to worry about it being damaged.”
However, in examining the necklace, another thought comes to your mind, which makes your brows pull together and eyes narrow.
This would be an excellent way to strangle me.
“It also will unclasp with enough force,” Azriel adds, practically reading your mind. “So you can’t be choked by it. Unless you hold it a very specific way. A way that only I know. For safety, of course.”
That was.. specific.
Your cheeks color slightly, but you nod. He stands, walking over behind you and carefully wrapping the chain around your neck and clasping it into place. His fingertips brush the nape of your neck, and blood rushes to your ears as he tucks a piece of hair back into place.
He strides in front of you and turns, gently taking your chin and tilting your head from side to side. “You look incredible.”
“Thank—”
The door swings open, and in comes the server with your plates… and for the second time, the tangy scent of Fuska root wafts into the air.
Azriel is at the door in front of the server in milliseconds, if that. You’re not entirely convinced that he didn’t winnow there. “She asked for no Fuska. This has Fuska. She’ll need it remade, properly this time.”
“Azriel it’s—”
The server frowns, her brows pulling together as she gives your dish a sniff. “Well I can’t smell it. So I’m sure they made it correctly. Fuska root doesn’t even have a taste.”
Azriel’s wings flare slightly, and you cringe. This server has made a grave mistake.
“Well, she doesn’t like Fuska root. So you’ll need to bring this back to the kitchens, or I will,” he growls, the azure siphons on his wrists glowing.
How did he know that?
The server rolls her eyes, shoves Azriel’s dish into his hands, and then turns and leaves with your plate.
Azriel’s wings relax, and then he turns around and walks back to the table with a perfectly neutral expression.
“That wasn’t necessary,” you murmur. “I’m sure she’s just tired.”
“Of course it was necessary. Rhys told me that you hate Fuska root.”
You reach over, taking a piece of Azriel’s food, and nod. “I don’t like it. But it’s not the end of the world if I have to eat it.”
“If you don’t like it, then I will ensure that you never have to eat it.”
Mother damn, Azriel knows how to make you blush.
A new server comes back with your dish, this one not containing even a hint of Fuska scent. You thank them, and are left to eat and talk with Azriel.
“The food is really good,” you talk over a mouthful, grinning. “And no Fuska in sight.”
Half an hour later, you excuse yourself to ‘go to the restroom.’ In reality, you head to the front desk.
“Excuse me,” you start. “I’m sitting at the table closest to the Sidra on the outdoor patio. I’d like to pay for my check.”
“Oh…” the hostess frowns, looking down at a piece of paper. “I’m sorry, ma’am, but your check has already been paid.”
“M’excuse me?”
“The gentlemale with you passed us his payment information on the way in, with specific instructions to not let you pay,” she replies, giving a sheepish smile.
You sigh heavily, running a hand over your hair. “Okay. Okay, thank you.”
With that, you head back to your table, noticing a shadow at your feet that looks rather happy with itself.
You step on it.
Tumblr media
Cassian, naturally, got you for your next restaurant date. He brought you to Rita’s… which is a bar… but it sure was interesting...
You enter Rita’s on Cassian’s arm, and immediately ‘accidentally’ drop a slip of paper saying to not, by any means, let Cassian pay.
The host frowns and shakes his head silently, making an arc motion with his hand. It takes you a minute to understand, but then you realize…
Cassian pre-paid before we even came here.
SHIT.
Tumblr media
Twenty Minutes Later:
You lean across the table to hear Cassian better, your Fae ears straining to hear him over the phone evening dance music. “What?”
“I said we come here all the time!” He replies, motioning through his sentence to get the point across.
“Oh!” You nod, giving a thumbs up. “I’ve heard about this place in letters from Mor. I guess she really likes it here.”
He grins, taking a sip of his cocktail. You follow suit, trying not to scrunch up your nose at how sour it is.
“Here,” He gets up, holding out his hand. “The waiter won’t get to us for another twenty minutes, this place is swamped and they’re really slow. Let’s dance.”
You laugh and nod, taking his hand and letting him pull you onto the dance floor. He’s not a very good dancer, but he’s certainly good at moving you around.
He slips behind you, placing his hands on your hips and swaying with the beat. You press yourself back against him, grinding your hips against his to the music. He laughs, tipping your head back to kiss you, and you oblige, turning and wrapping your arms around his neck.
You dance and dance through six songs, until you both retreat to your table, looking a little disheveled.
Right on cue, the waiter comes to the table, notepad in hand. “What can I get for ya?”
You order, and as soon as you’re finished, Cassian speaks. “And no Fuska root on her dish. None at all. NADA.”
“Sir, the dish doesn’t come with—”
“She is deathly allergic to Fuska root. She will die if you let it near her plate, and then I will have to hunt you down and kill you.”
You chew your bottom lip, raising a brow.
“Yes, sir. And… and what would you like?”
You snort, watching Cassian order and then handing the waiter your menu. When the male walks away, you turn back to your mate.
“How’d you know about the Fuska thing?” you ask, sipping your lip-pursing cocktail.
“Rhys and Az told me.”
“How… how exactly did they put that?”
“They said you absolutely must never come into contact with it, and if you do, then to profusely apologize for not protecting you enough and then hunt down the chef and choke him with Fuska root until he’s cold and dead.”
You blink once. Twice. Thrice.
“I’m… I’m not allergic. I just don’t care for the taste.”
Cassian’s ears redden, and he looks away. “…Same difference.”
“No, no, it’s not—”
“Shhhhh.”
Tumblr media
After your array of adventures with the Night Court brothers, the Autumn males got your next two dates. First was Eris, who took you to a restaurant adjacent to the palace. Which was, again… in a tree...
“Why must you build everything in trees, six stories up? It feels overkill,” you comment as you get to the door, Eris opening it for you.
“It’s safer. And Autumn is known for that kind of thing. Besides, I find it comforting to be in trees, surrounded by colorful leaves,” Eris explains, his thumb rubbing your hand. “I can have some buildings built on the ground for you.”
“Please,” you laugh, following the host as he leads you to your table, which is up another flight of stairs. “Remind me to never wear heels in Autumn.”
“You’re— you’re wearing heels?” Eris gapes, lifting your skirt slightly to check. “Why are you doing that?”
“You said this was a fancy place,” you reply, taking your seat in a comfortable booth by a window, overlooking the palace and the people below. “It’s pretty standard to wear heels.”
“Not in Autumn… we do a lot of climbing. Females primarily wear bendy flats. I can buy you some this evening.”
“Flats?”
“Flats.”
You lean forward, dropping your voice into a whisper. “Did I die? Is this heaven?”
He snorts, shaking his head. “Not quite.”
The server comes to take your order, and you go first. Luckily, the meal you order doesn’t come with Fuska root.
“I’ll take the garden salad, with light dressing. Oh, and could I get a side dish of Fuska root?” Eris asks, with a wink in my direction.
Oh.
Someone likes Fuska.
The server nods and leaves, and you shake off his order and shift your attention to the most important part of the meal.
“I’d really like to pay,” you say, clasping your hands over the table. “Please.”
“No need.”
“Please—”
“I own this restaurant. Anything I order or a guest of mine orders is free.”
You groan, pinching the bridge of your nose. “It just gets worse…”
“Sorry?”
“Nothing. Nothing.”
You start small talk, and end up in a discussion about your families. Eris describes what it’s like to be a royal, and to have so many siblings. You explain how your parents raised you and your little siblings to be monster specialists — your father is a researcher, and your mother is a hunter. You and two little sisters — one of which is only eighteen, so just a kid in Fae years — and little brother were essentially court hoppers, always camping and on the move.
The waitress comes with your food, and when they walk away, you start to dig in.
“Here,” Eris says with a soft smile, holding out the side dish with the Fuska root. “I figured you’d want it with your meal.”
“Oh, uhm,” you lean away from the scent slightly, nose wrinkling. “No… no thanks…”
Eris tilts his head, looking from you, to the dish, then back to you. “I thought you loved Fuska root… and put it on everything? I figured you had forgotten to order it.”
“Eris, where did you hear this?” you ask, a bad feeling forming in your stomach.
“Rhysand and Azriel told me that you loved it. Cassian said you get sad whenever you have a meal without it.”
Ah. Sabotage.
“Have you… have you considered perhaps they were… lying?”
His smile drops, and he pulls the plate back. “Don’t tell me…”
“I’m sorry,” you bite your lip. “I don’t like the taste of Fuska.”
Eris grits his teeth, shooting up out of his chair. “I’m going to kill those morons—“
“Eris!”
Tumblr media
With your other four mates having already taken you to a meal, naturally Lucien was last. But not least. Definitely not the least…
“I think I need to brief you on a couple things,” you say, looking up at Lucien sheepishly as he guides you to a breakfast restaurant for brunch.
“Should I be nervous?”
“No, because I’m briefing you now.” You stop walking, reaching up and putting a hand on his shoulder.
Lucien raises a brow. “Alright…”
“I am not allergic to Fuska root, but I don’t like it either. It’s just not my thing. I do not love Fuska root.”
“…Okay? You made me worried about that?” He cocks his head to the side, a piece of his long, silky red hair falling over his forehead. “Noted. No Fuska, but you’re not allergic.”
“Wait,” you narrow your eyes. “Nobody told you anything about me and Fuska root?”
“No… should they have?”
Ah.
Neutrality.
This must mean that your other mates don’t see him as a threat as they saw Eris… but they didn’t help him out either.
“Have you paid in advance for the meal?” You ask, hand gripping his shoulder tightly.
Lucien gently eases your fingers off of him, raising your hand to his lips and kissing your knuckles. “No… was I supposed to?”
“No. No, you weren’t supposed to… so can I pay? Pretty please, with no Fuska root on top?” You jut out your bottom lip, pouting.
He chuckles, but shakes his head. “I think not.”
“Please?”
He takes a look into your begging eyes and sighs, pulling you close to his side and resuming your walk to the restaurant. “Halfsies?”
“That works!”
You shower his face with kisses, then have to pause and use your sleeve to wipe away the lipstick marks.
“I’m not going to lie to you; I don’t think I’ve ever had a female beg to pay for dinner.”
“Oh, you don’t even know. You don’t… even… know.”
Tumblr media
But only getting to split the check with one mate didn’t sit well with you. Not at all. So you organized an all-mates dinner, at a restaurant that none of your mates even knew existed, in a village on the coast of the Dawn Court…
“I need to make an advance reservation,” you tell the hostess, throwing back your hood and leaning against the front counter. “For six, during this time two months from now.”
She raises a brow, tilting her head to the side. “Okay… but you could have just written.”
“I could have. But I’m giving you my payment in advance. You must not let any of my other guests pay. Not a penny.”
“……Alright, not a problem—”
“No, no,” you lean forward more. “You don’t understand. They are very important people. They will try to make you let them pay. This cannot happen.”
The hostess frowns, a bead of sweat forming on her temple. “How important?”
“Two High Lords.”
She gasps, a hand flying over her mouth. “Ma’am, I’m not sure I can deny them—”
“You must. Tell me, have you ever had a pixie problem?” You cock your head, pulling out a jar of swarming pixies, shouting with their little tiny angry voices and making clinks as they fight against the glass.
A strained noise comes from the back of her throat. “No— no, please, put those away. If those are seen in here, we could be reported for bad sanitization… they always swarm people’s food!”
“Oh, I know,” you smirk, placing the buzzing jar on the counter. “Don’t you worry. You won’t have a pixie problem. As long as you just… don’t let the High Lords pay.”
The hostess nods, quickly pushing the jar back into your hands. “Ma’am, yes, ma’am. Now put them away.”
You nod with a smile, tucking the jar into the pocket of your coat. “Good. I’ll see you in two months.”
With that, you pull your hood up over your head and leave the building.

Two Months Later:
Azriel returns to the table where you and your other four mates have been sitting and eating for the past hour and a half. He has a sour expression as he sits back down, and then turns to you.
“What did you do.” Azriel says, and it’s more of a demand than a question.
You shake your head, shrug, and take one of Cassian’s fries, who is seated to your right. “I have no clue what you’re talking about.”
“Yes. Yes, you do. Why won’t they let me pay?” Azriel glares at you, frowning.
“You tried to pay?” Lucien glances up from his food, making a face. “We agreed that Rhysand and I were splitting it.”
“I tried earlier,” Eris admits. “When we first came in, they wouldn’t let me pay either.”
Rhys joins in, staring at Eris, “You tried to pay, too?”
Cassian chuckles, turning to you. “What did you do, exactly?”
“You know, pixies can be a really big problem for restaurants around here—”
All of your mates groan in unison.
“I win!”
You take a big, heaping bite of your meal. You smile to yourself for the rest of the dinner.

Pairing: Elriel Rating: E Word Count: ~4k Tags: PWP, Smut, Outdoor Sex, Feral Behavior, Dominant Azriel, Slight Degradation Kink, Forbidden Love & Secret Relationships, Established Relationship, Post-ACOSF, princess (derogatory), princess (affectionate) Summary: After Rhys reiterates his orders from that wretched Solstice night months later, Azriel snaps, and Elain quite happily earns herself a new nickname.
The long-awaited sequel to Breathless!
Read this fic on AO3 or check out a snippet under the cut.
Tumblr media
The heat of high summer threatened to roast Azriel alive as he flew over Velaris. His shadows shrouded him from the worst of it, cool and mistlike where they lay against his skin, but even they could not fully shield his exposed wings from the sun’s furious glare.
Keep your hands off of my fucking princess.
Rhysand’s voice still echoed in his mind, the memory a fresh hell that was certain to haunt Azriel during his sleepless nights.
If you can’t get your mind out from between her legs, then you could at least pretend to have a shred of respect for her position.
Clenching his jaw against the fury gathering in his throat, Azriel tucked his wings, angling for the ground. Nosediving through the air was reckless, thoughtless—a move that would have gotten him whipped as a novice if any war camp commander had seen—but he savored the wind that stung his eyes and tore at his hair.
This rush of adrenaline felt better than the vicious, lung-shredding unworthiness clawing at his insides. That feeling had sunk its talons into him in his cell beneath his sire’s keep and held on all his life, through wars won and promotions earned and centuries of pining for a female who never wanted him back.
And just when he thought he might have shaken it…
Now that Nesta has publicly accepted her bond with Cassian, Elain is the closest thing the Night Court has to a princess. And I won’t let you ruin the opportunity in front of us with your cock.
It was back.
In an instant, Az was just a nameless bastard again, clothed in rags and kept secret behind a door locked from the outside. A small, weak boy who had only scarred, ravaged hands and shadows that drove him near to madness to his name.
He burned to think of the way Rhys’s cold eyes had pinned him to his seat in his heavily warded study in the House of Wind—black, empty pits of night void of any trace of stars. Though Azriel put everything he had into reinforcing the walls of ice around his mind, a ravenous, beastly feeling had stirred at the sight of the disdain in his brother’s expression.
Hell, he’d almost had to rustle his wings just to remind himself that they were no longer two emaciated, useless things hanging limply off his back for well over five centuries.
He had held off though—barely. If only so Rhys didn’t witness that moment of insecurity.
You know better than anyone how many eyes are on her. I won’t have her dragged through the scandal sheets every week like Cresseida and the Vanserra brothers. I expect you can respect that, at the very least?
Azriel could. The gossipmongers of Prythian had better spies than most governments. He could only imagine the malicious horse shit they would sell on every newsstand and street corner if they got the faintest hint of a rumor about the High Lady of Night’s quiet, reclusive sister.
The ground rushed toward him, but he waited until his shadows cried out in fright to snap open his wings. Every muscle and tendon in his back screamed with agony as he caught the wind, pulling out of his dive with a low groan.
While you were gone, Elain expressed a desire to take a more active role in the politics of this court. She cannot do that if she is embroiled in a fucking feud between my spymaster and the gods-damned Autumn Court.
Azriel, stupid with rage, had opened his mouth then. Can’t she? Feyre’s reputation hardly suffered after being caught between two High L—
Even now, with the wind roaring in his ears and his own wingbeats defeaning him, Azriel could hear the ear-splitting CRACK! as Rhysand’s hands slammed onto the desk he so rarely used.
The desk he only used when he wanted to speak to Azriel alone these days.
Keep your hands off of my fucking princess.
The snarling command played on a loop in Azriel’s head.
And here he was, soaring low over the rooftops of the city, so easily identifiable in his leathers and Siphons.
Reckless.
Stupid.
Everyone would see him.
People would talk.
He didn’t give a single shit.
He glided over the theater district, the Rainbow. The shadows whispered of shady dealings at the Palaces as they quickly passed beneath him—more insider trading from the governors, apparently, and Azriel tucked the information away for later—and gave way to the Sidra, which snaked down to the grander estates on the river’s eastern banks…
Neat, manicured hedgerows and alabaster stone crept into view.
Azriel hadn’t originally planned to go back to the River House at all after Rhysand summoned him out of the city for a meeting in the House of Wind. It was too risky, knowing Feyre would be home from her evening stroll to put the baby to bed by then. But his head went quiet at the sight of freshly trimmed rose bushes and clean-swept gravel paths.
His feet touched down between the dahlias and the petunias.
And there she was, wielding a spade against the weeds that had terrorized her rhododendrons since the spring. It was undoubtedly hard work; as he watched, she sat back on her heels and swept the back of her hand over her glistening forehead, leaving a smudge of dirt on her smooth brow.
Elain, the shadows sighed fondly, forgetting the hell Azriel had just put them through.
One, a bold ribbon of utmost darkness, cooed, Princess.
As if Elain could hear the damned things calling to her, she turned her eyes toward him, squinting into the sun. Azriel’s chest squeezed with tenderness as her full lips formed a smile for him. Just for him.
“Azr— Oh!”
Azriel was upon her in three steps, falling to his knees in the cool patch of dirt beside her and hooking an arm around her waist. With his other hand, he took hold of her wrist, disarmed her in a swift, gentle twist of his. He tossed her spade into a bed across the gravel path.
Better not to have sharp objects anywhere near her right now.
Her tinkling laughter trickled over him like water, a moment of cool relief from the sweltering day. ”Azriel, what in the world brought this on?”
He didn’t say a word.
He wound the thick length of her hair around his fist and kissed her. It wasn’t a gentle kiss—it was clashing teeth and bruised lips and sharp, possessive nips until he tasted precious metal on his tongue.

Young Love and Old Money (Cassian x Female! Reader)
Part 1 , Part 2, Part 3 , Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8
AN: Sorry  I’ve been a little MIA recently. I was pretty busy last week, but I’m back now and I’m so excited to be writing this series!
Warnings: Sexisim, trauma from under the mountain, Rhys isn’t the nicest in this but he has his reasons.
Word Count: 3,458
Tumblr media
As I sauntered down the hallway towards my brother's study, I couldn’t help but feel my palms sweat and my heart race. It was the first time he had ‘summoned’ me in such a manner since we had escaped from under the mountain. That was a year ago, and ever since we made it back to Velaris he had been different. Colder. Not that I could ever fault him. Rhysand and I’s time under the mountain was grueling, but it was far worse for him. First he sacrificed his freedom to save Velaris, then he sacrificed his body to save me.
My whole life I had been told I beheld a beauty that was otherworldly. However, I had no powers to go alone with my looks. Once I got older rumors across Prythain grew of two siblings of night. Rhysand, who would be the most powerful High Lord to ever grace the land, and me, his younger sister who was born without magic but given the most coveted gift of all. Some even said that Rhysand stole my magic away in our mothers womb, making him the most powerful high fae alive and leaving me with nothing but a pretty face.
At first I loathed the idea of being powerless, but I soon realized the power my beauty had over others. High Lord’s begged for my hand left and right, males of reason and education would lose all inhibition around me. I quickly became The Jewel of Prythain, a name that was used far more often than my own. The second Rhysand and I’s mother and father realized that, they locked me away. Me and my virtue were far too good a bargaining chip to be let loose into the world. At first it was jarring, having all my freedoms taken away. But Rhys would always come home and tell me the tales of him and his new friends Cassian and Azriel. In a way I got to live through him and I was forever thankful for it.
When our parents died Rhys gave me more freedom but I neglected to take them. I became close with our cousin Mor and even spent time with his friends Cassian and Azriel, but that was the extent of it.   I had grown so used to living in solitude that I didn’t long for much more. His time as High Lord was short lived, soon after the death of our parents Amarantha came into power and Rhys was to be taken under the mountain. As the princess of the night court, I had no other option but to go with him, or risk Velaris.
The second we were down there Amarantha sunk her claws into him. Rhys fought and resisted her, and for a few weeks he had been able to keep her at arms length. All of that changed when Hybern came to check on the state of things. He took one look at me and ordered Amarantha to hand me over to him, to be his whore. I had never been so scared in my life, and I had no idea what to do. Rhys spoke up and told Amarantha that if she kept me safe he would go to her bed willingly. It was enough for her to spare me, but it never spared me from the grief of knowing what Rhys was putting himself through to protect me.
50 years came and went until we were finally free from under the mountain. I remember the smell of night blooming jasmine gracing my nose as Rhys winnowed us home. Mor was the first to greet us, then Amren. Finally Cassian and Azriel flew to the townhouse and the sight of all of our old friends was almost unreal. As I watched them all embrace us, my eyes couldn’t help but float to Cassian. Had he gotten taller since I last saw him? Bigger muscles? More handsome?
After settling in Rhys changed. He was harsher, colder, no doubt the things he experienced under the mountain still plaguing him. He stayed in the townhouse while I took up residency in The House of Wind, both of us needing time to ourselves to process what had happened.
I had lived in the House of Wind for a year now, only seeing my brother once a month for family dinners, and I suppose today.  I approached his office doors and knocked quietly.
“Come in,” his voice boomed, more High Lordly than I had ever heard before.
I step in the door and shut it quietly. For what reason? I’m not sure, there was just something about this new Rhys that made me feel so small, especially now.
“You wanted to see me?” I ask my brother, standing before his desk.
“Yes I did,”  he started, sifting through papers. “I wanted to tell you that I finally read fathers will and there’s something in it that concerns you,”  he says.
“What?” I ask in disbelief. While our father wasn’t a cruel man he never paid much attention to me, focusing all his attention on Rhys, his male heir.
“He has it written in his will that he struck a deal with Beron and Eris Vanserra years ago.” Rhys says sliding a paper over to me. “The Autumn Court will give us their armies if you marry Eris.”
I glance at the paper Rhys has handed me. Sure enough in fathers hand writing is a contract signed by all three parties. An agreement I was never told about until now.
“Hybern is on the move and Azriel say’s that he will dock on our shores when he arrives. I think now is as good as ever to call in the contract.” he states leaning back in his leather chair.
“You want me to marry Eris?” I ask, hoping it wasn’t true. I knew very little of the Prince of Autumn, except that he was a sadistic brute who had a way with women.
“Not just me sister,” Rhysand drawls sensing a fight. “It was our fathers will as well. I have every intention of finishing what he started. We leave tomorrow for the Autumn Court. You will meet Eris, and Beron and I will go over the details once more.”
Part of me boils at the idea of what my brother is saying but then I remember why our mother and father locked me up. Why every High Lord thirsted for me under the mountain. I could still hear their voices uttering, “There’s The Jewel of Prythian” and, “The most beautiful female of Prythain,” completed with, “I heard that Rhysand stole her power in the womb leaving her with nothing but her beauty”
This was my fate from the moment I came of age. A bargaining chip to whatever High Lord or Prince was willing to pay the most for. I wanted to scream and cry and beg Rhys not to make me do this. But then I thought of  all he sacrificed for me under the mountain. I could do this for him.
“Then I’m excited to meet him brother,” I said, giving a fake smile.
“I was hoping you’d say that,” Rhys smiled, the tension from his shoulders dissipating at my words of cooperation. “You are dismissed to begin preparations for tomorrow.”
I nod my head and take it as my queue to leave his office. The second the double oak doors close I feel my heartrate pick up and I’m suddenly dying for a breath of fresh air. I walk quickly to the front door, my dress billowing behind me as I try to keep my tears from falling. I sit down on the front steps of the townhouse and let the spring air blow across my face. My tears fell slowly but surely as I let all my composure go.
My mind raced with thoughts of Eris, all the terrible things I had heard of him over the many years. How other High Lords were terrified of the day Beron passed and Eris took his place. If they were terrified of him as a ruler, how scared should I be to have him as a husband?
A shadow slammed into the ground outside the townhouse pulling me from my thoughts. I tried to wipe my tears away and act like nothing was wrong, but I knew better than to think I could fool my Spymaster for one moment.
“Hey are you okay? What’s wrong?” Azriel cooed. Azriel and I had gotten close since I came back from under the mountain as he and Cassian also lived in the House of Wind. He had taken on the role of big brother since Rhys was battling his own demons.
“I just got done talking to Rhys,” I sniffled, feeling the large Illyrian sit next to me. “He says I have to marry Eris.”
“Vanserra?” Azriel clarified and I nodded. “He can’t be serious, Eris is a monster.”
“Apparently our father had it arranged years ago, but I didn’t know about it till now. We’re going to the Autumn Court to meet him tomorrow.” I explain,  wiping my eyes.
“Well I guess that explains why Rhys called me down. Do you want me to talk to him? Maybe I can stop this.” Azriel says, taking my hand in his.
“No it’s okay. Rhys is right, war is coming and if this marriage can protect you and Cassian as well as our people then I’ll do it. Besides, Rhys sacrificed so much to keep me safe under the mountain, I owe it to him to do this.” I sigh, feeling my breathing calm down as Azriel rubs circles on my hand.
“You shouldn’t have to sacrifice yourself for Velaris and you shouldn’t be trying to even the score with Rhys. Rhys did what he did because you’re his little sister and he loves you, not because he wanted an IOU,” Azriel explains, continuing to rub circles on the tops of my hands. His scared and calloused hands soothing me.
“Maybe, but I’m going to do it anyway. I won’t let this city down or my brother,” I say, taking a deep breath.
“Then you are the bravest princess I know,” Azriel says, kissing my brow. “Not that I haven’t always known.”
“Thanks Az,” I smile, bumping my shoulder into him.
“I’m sure this meeting won’t be very long, want me to fly you home when I’m done?” Azriel asks.
“That would be great, thank you,” I smile, even though my eyes are still glassed over.
With that Azriel went inside to talk to Rhys, leaving me outside to take in the fresh air. I sat watching the people of Velaris going about their daily lives. Couples holding hands on the Sidra, children playing in the streets. I couldn’t help but wonder if the Autumn Court would have a place like this, and even though I was still here I couldn’t help but feel a bit of prophetic homesickness.
Tumblr media
The next morning was full of primping and trying on a million gowns. Rhys had sent Nuala and Cerridwen to make sure that I was groomed to perfection. Even though they had taken hours I couldn’t help but fuss over every detail while looking in the mirror in the living room of the townhouse. After I  made sure that the pins holding in my crown were secure I smoothed my hands over my dress a million times, trying to wipe the sweat from my palms.
“You look beautiful,” crooned a deep voice.
I nearly jumped out of my skin, bumping into the table under the mirror and knocking over a vase. I turn to find Cassian standing next to me, red siphons faintly glowing and looking handsome as ever.
“Sorry I didn’t mean to startle you,” he smiled, picking up the vase and turning it back upright.
“It’s okay,” I smile. “It’s my fault for being so lost in thought.”
“Everyone ready?” Rhysand asks stepping into the room where Cassian, Azriel and I have been waiting for him.
“Ready as I’ll ever be,” I sigh, stepping towards him so he can winnow us to the Autumn Court.
The second we arrive I’m greeted with a cold chill running up and down my arms. The smell of wet leaves and woodsmoke surrounds me, and if I wasn’t being brought here to be sold off like cattle I might even say that I liked this place. Rhys led me up the stairs to the palace, Azriel flanking Rhysand’s side while Cassian flanked mine. The closeness of him almost made my skin buzz with excitement. I mentally slapped myself, reminding my brain that I was about to meet my future husband.
The palace of the Autumn Court is beautiful to say the least. The marble floors are bathed in amber light from the various chandeliers that hang from the ceiling and swaths of deep red and golden fabrics are all over the rooms. A set of large oak double doors opens before us and I’m greeted to the sight of Beron Vanserra sitting atop his throne, his eldest son Eris standing at his side.
Eris was tall and lean. His eyes were like molten fire and his mouth turned up at the sight of me. If I didn’t know a thing about his character I would’ve said he was handsome. The throne room was intimidating and I couldn’t help but notice that only one throne sat atop the dias. Apparently The Autumn Court didn’t believe in High Lady’s.
“Rhysand, welcome to my court,” Beron greeted us, stepping down to walk towards Rhys.
“We are honored to be invited,” Rhysand smiled with a charm that only he could possess.
“This must be your sister y/n,” Beron smiled. “Step forward girl.”
I wasn’t sure if Beron’s voice was like a spell that propelled me forward or if I was just so scared my body was acting on instinct. But the second the command left his mouth I took two steps toward him.
“Very nice,” Beron drawled as circled me like prey making my cheeks burn with embarrassment. “I see that all the stories of her beauty are true. Can you vouch for her purity, Rhysand?”
“I can assure you that she remains untouched,” Rhys says and bile nearly rises in my throat.
“Wonderful,” Beron claps his hands together. “Eris why don’t you and y/n take a stroll around the terrace while Rhysand and I finalize the details.”
“With pleasure father,” Eris says, stepping down from the dias towards me taking my hand in his. “You are even more beautiful than the stories say,” he smiles, pressing a kiss to my hand.
“You flatter me Prince Eris,” I smile, allowing him to lead me outside.
“I’ve been told that flattery is one of my many talents,” he smirks as the fresh Autumn air hits my face.
We walk until we reach the bannister of the terrace. I lean against it, peering out over the valley below us. Bright bursts of reds, oranges and yellows flow throughout the land, the setting sun making the scene picture perfect.
“Over there are the kennels where I keep my hounds,” Eris tells me, pointing to a large red barn off to the left.
“That’s right, I’ve heard you’re a magnificent hunter,” I smile, craning my neck to see more of the barn.
“It’s true, I’ve been hunting for years. I’ve tried thousands of other hobbies but nothing gives me quite the thrill that hunting does,” he explains and I can sense the double meaning in his words.
“What’s that over there?” I ask, pointing to a patch of land riddled with targets, bows, swords and what appears to be a fighting ring.
“That, my dear, is where my brothers and I train, and that’s where our sons will train once they can wield a sword,” he explains and his words make me sick.
“And if we have a daughter?” I tease trying to keep the conversation light.
“Then she will be a pretty little wall ornament for a future High Lord, just like you are,” he says brushing a hand down my bare arm. “But know this, you will bear me a son.” he growls and it feels like an order.
I swallow hard trying to keep the tension rolling through my body from gracing my face, “Of course my prince,” I say turning towards him.
From the corner of my eye I see Cassian leaning against the door watching the two of us, and I wonder if he has been here the whole time.
“Who are you?” Eris sneers.
Cassian straightens up, a playful glint in his eye, “I'm merely the humble guardian of your future wall ornament, ensuring she remains as exquisite as she is now." He says with a charming smile that would normally bring me to my knees. Instead it was taking everything in me not to laugh.
Eris’ jaw ticks at Cassian’s tone but he remains ever the calm and collected prince he was brought up to be. “Very well then.” was all he could say before we were interrupted by my brother and Beron.
“Look at them, they already make a very handsome couple,” Beron says to Rhysand.
“I can’t argue with that,” Rhysand smiles. “Come sister we’re going home, you and Eris will have time to talk later this week.”
I don’t argue or ask questions as I am dying to get out of this wretched palace as soon as possible. I bid my goodbyes to Eris and take my brother's hand as he leads me out of the palace and winnows us away. It isn’t until the scent of jasmine fills the air that I let myself finally take a deep breath. I barely have a moment to think before Rhys speaks up.
“Things went well, but Eris has asked for the contract to be changed,” Rhysand states.
“In what way?” I ask, fearing the worst.
“He wishes for you two to court for a month, if at the end of that month he finds you agreeable you will become his wife,” Rhys states.
In a way part of me is relieved, if at the end of the month Eris decides he doesn’t want me anymore I’m free. Free from this marriage, free to stay home with my family.
“Then I guess I’ll have to continue to spark his interest,” I say, my words betraying me.
“Precisely,” Rhys nods. “Azriel come with me I have a mission to discuss with you, Cassian fly y/n to The House of Wind.”
“On it boss,” Cassian replies jokingly, turning to me. “Ready to go?” he asks me.
“More than you know,” I sigh, tossing my arms around his frame and letting him fly me out of the townhouse.
I had always loved flying, I remember when Rhys first summoned his wings and was learning how to use them. He would come home with cuts and bruises all over him that Madja had to clean up. She always joked that he spent more time being bandaged up than he did in the air. But the day that Rhys finally learned how to fly he rushed to tell me all about it. Later that night he snuck me out of the townhouse and took me on a flight around the city. I had never felt so free in my life.
I felt the same way now as the wind whipped my hair behind me, Cassian’s warmth seeping through my clothes keeping me from getting cold. I tried to not breathe in his scent of cedar and leather, but with my face so close to his neck it was hard to ignore.
A sudden gust of wind had us blowing sideways and I gripped his neck tighter, peering down at how far the drop would be.
Cassian chuckled, “Don’t worry princess I got you,” he assured me, holding my body a little closer to his own just to ease my worries.
“I know you do,” I laugh nervously, trying to act unaffected.
“Are you sure? Because you’re still gripping my neck like you’re going to topple out of my arms.” Cassian chuckles again.
I loosen my tight grip,  feeling embarrassed. “Sorry,” I murmur, trying to cover my blushing cheeks.
“No need to apologize,” he laughs, touching down on the balcony outside of the living room.
“Thanks for taking me home,” I say softly, turning towards the door.
“Of course, anytime,” he smiles before taking off into the sky again.
I watch his form disappear into the clouds and as I make my way into my room I can’t help but long for that smell of cedar and leather.

Part 1, Part 2
His heartbeat is drumming in your ears. He’s impossibly close. You should not have said that. But he’s intoxicating and he’s making a mistake.
Your hands reach his chest and his muscles tense where you touch. His head lowers even more. But you turn your head to the side and push him away.
“I’m sorry” you apologize, hands still on his chest.
“You’re making me crazy” his hands land on your waist but he doesn’t close the distance.
“Rhys… what I meant to say is that you shouldn’t marry someone you don’t even know.”
“You said I should marry you.” Now he steps forward again, keeping your back pressed against the door.
“I… are you really this blind?”
“I want you to speak clearly” you turn to face him again.
“I’ve been in love with you for so long… but that’s irrelevant when there’s a war coming”
“I didn’t know… if I had… I would have found another way…” his hands rise to your face, cupping your cheeks, keeping your eyes on him.
“Is there something to be done?”
“Not without making a mess of it all.”
This would end badly. There is no world where this plan works. Your mind races as you place a flower in your hair and check your reflection in the mirror before opening the door to reveal a polished looking Cassian. He flies you to the House of Wind from where you winnow to the Court of Nightmares with the rest of your friends to attend the royal wedding.
Upon arrival you regret the floral dress you put on, it makes you stick out like a sore thumb against the preferred black of the Night Court. You are seated in between Mor and Cassian, trying your best to school your features into cool indifference. There’s a lot riding on the next few minutes. Nausea creeps up on you and you resort to breathing techniques to calm yourself down. This is stupid, so very stupid.
Rhysand is waiting at the altar, hands in his pockets. He looks beautiful, graced with unnatural poise. The guests have all been seated. Everyone is waiting for the princess to walk down the aisle.
A soft melody erupts from the symphony stationed on the right side of the altar. Everyone stands and looks towards the doors. An auburn haired angel dressed in white lace walks in, chin tucked, eyes downcast. The bouquet in her hands is almost as large as her torso. It occasionally slips from her grasp as she floats towards Rhysand. She 's so young. She shivers and you know it’s not from the cold. When she gets close enough, Rhys extends his hand towards her and you watch as he helps her up the steps.
You gulp.
The ceremony proceeds beautifully. The priestess made a few remarks on how honorable it was for them to unify the two courts in love, especially during the turbulent times that Prythian was facing. It makes you want to hide under the pew.
Then she says the words you were dreading, expecting and hoping to hear.
“If anyone has an objection, speak now or forever hold your peace.”
Your hands turn into white knuckled fists.
“Me! I object!” a collective gasp is drawn from the room. Everyone looking for who would dare protest against the royal wedding. You look at your friends and they look right back at you with matching wide eyes and slacked jaws.
The priestess wastes no time in composing herself.
“Why do you object to this union?”
The princess’ eyes are filled with tears as she looks at the challenger, her lips threatening to twist upward.
“The High Lord of the Night Court could never love this female more than I do. I’ve loved her since we were children and I’ll love her until I am dust.” The young male pushes his way through the crowd until he stands in the center of the aisle. “Ember, my heart, everything I am is yours. You can toss me away if you wish, but I’m asking you” he gets down on his knees “I’m begging you to not do this”.
Rhysand does not let any emotion alter his stoic expression. The priestess interjects again “if the couple wishes they could take a few moments to… absorb what this male is saying”. Ember nods and follows Rhysand to a backroom.
The murmurs pale in comparison to the shouts sputtering out of Beron’s lips. “I will have your head for this, you insolent worm!” The young male stands firm in the aisle but you know it will be moments before Beron incinerates him. So you stand from your seat, walk towards him, grab his hand and lead him to the very room Ember and Rhysand must be in, your friends hot on your heels.
“Fantastic timing, y/n” Rhys smiles your way. Ember rushes from where she stands to the young male at your side and wraps her arms around neck in a bone crushing hug.
“What is going on?” Cassian asks, hand on the hilt of his sword in case Beron barrels through the door.
“My betrothed loves another, the wedding cannot go on.”
Azriel is  next to interrogate “we need the soldiers Rhysand.”
“And we will have them.”
“Someone explain, now” Mor demands.
“This whole wedding was my fathers’ plan, I never wanted to marry Rhysand. Mika-” she smiles at the name “is my mate and being married off to the highest bidder was the worst heartache of my life… anyways” she turns her gaze to Rhysand “thank you for understanding.” In a blink of an eye the young couple vanishes.
“She’s leaving Prythian to start a new life somewhere else, Beron will still have to provide the backup since he could not hold up his end of the bargain” Rhysand smirks at his inner circle. Mor rushes towards him and slaps his chest “did you know all along that this would happen?” Her nostrils flared “no, this was a surprise for me as well.”
With a few words from the priestess the crowd disperses in a huff of dissatisfaction. Beron and his sons leave with a flurry of threats and ill wishes but Rhys reminds him of the bargain mark that stains them both.
“I can’t believe it worked” you laugh as you and Rhys walk through the door of your apartment.
“What's it worth being daemati if I can’t use it for my benefit every once in a while?” He smiles and you still can’t believe it.
“What if we’re not the only ones who don’t want this wedding to happen?” you had asked him last night.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, what if there's someone the princess would rather be with, and what if they object to the wedding and run away together?”  The fact that her actual mate was there was pure luck.
He’s still smiling as he walks towards you, caging you in against the wall.
“I have been waiting to taste you for so long” you grab the collar of his jacket and pull him down to meet your lips. It's a mess of teeth, lips and tongues as he makes sure to thoroughly explore your mouth with his own.
His hands go to your thighs and he picks you up, wrapping your legs around his ways. You moan at the feel of him pressed completely against you. Before it can go any further you pull away “this doesn’t mean I’ll marry you tomorrow.”
“Alright.”
“I love my work and expect to be assigned on another expedition soon” he’s kissing your neck now but stops briefly to say “y/n, we can do this however fast or slow you want. But right now I want to relish in the fact that I can finally touch you” he punctuates the sentence with peck on your lips “so if you don’t mind” he nibbles on your earlobe, then licks his way down to the base of your neck, leaving love bites along the way “we can just focus on this for right now.”
