(Untitled) AU of an AU

P.S. The thread was getting long, it was difficult to reblog on my phone, so here you go @haiseiscute333.

Also, this is 2k words, which I finished in one sitting, so apparently I'm not burnt out. Just idea and inspiration wise, in regards to my existing works OTL

Break-ups sucked.

At twenty-four, Nico genuinely thought that he was past this stage and on the road of settling down with the love of his life. Well, that was the plan, but the universe obviously had something different in mind. Because after two blissful years of being in a relationship, he and Percy Jackson broke up.

For the record, it was him who broke up with America’s all-time male sweetheart, and not the other way around. Not that that information would ever become public. Just like our relationship, Nico thought bitterly as he stabbed his strawberry parfait with a metal spoon. It was one of the many reasons why they broke up in the first place - he became tired of being Percy’s “mystery partner”. Two years was ample time for Percy to come out to the public regarding his sexuality; Nico highly doubted that the public would persecute their sweetheart for coming out as bisexual. He’s not even coming out as gay, Nico scoffed, stabbing his parfait once more. But no, Percy insisted he needed more time.

To be fair, Nico was fine with that. He was willing to wait for Percy because he genuinely believed that he was the love of his life. They even shared - what Nico considered at the time - a most wonderful and magical summer together as children, for Pete’s sake! Kid Percy even knelt at his feet, professing his love for him, and claimed he would marry him in the future with one of those tacky candy ring pops. Nico wished he could shove it up his ass, along with his many broken promises in the span of two years. But, coming back to the original subject, even Nico had his limits. Percy forgetting his birthday again in their two years of relationship, and going to America’s sweetheart, Annabeth Chase’s, celebratory party was it.

In retrospect, Nico should have ditched his ass a year ago when Percy neither confirmed nor denied to the media of being in a relationship with Annabeth. Or maybe, when he forgot Nico’s birthday because he was busy shooting a film. Or maybe, when he forgot their anniversary because he was booked for photoshoots and interviews. But, for once, Nico had been stupid, just because this was his childhood sweetheart. He really should’ve known better.

Now, here he was, dressed in disguise in ‘Elysium’ - his (secretly) favorite hole-in-the-wall dessert bar - stabbing the poor strawberry parfait in his hand as he wallowed in self-pity. Did he cry over Percy? Of course, he did! But not for the reasons anyone might assume. That fucker made him waste two of his precious years on him, of course he would cry over the time he lost! This, stabbing a parfait, was just part of his self-healing. Tomorrow, he will be a better person. He’d be the industry’s charming darling, as he had been for years. But for now, he just wanted to be human without the paparazzi’s eyes on him.

“If you stab that any harder, the glass will break.” A soft voice interrupted his thoughts, making him pause mid-stab. Scoffing, and with a retort on the tip of his tongue, Nico raised his head to glare at whoever was addressing him, only for him to visibly pause, suddenly at a loss for words as he gazed directly into the most gorgeous man he had ever seen. And that was saying a lot, since there were a lot of genuinely good-looking guys surrounding Nico on a daily basis.

The man before him was either a businessman or a lawyer, or somewhere along those lines. He was dressed for the part, and he exuded an imposing amount of confidence to be the part. He possessed a lean physique, his body adorned by a pristine gray suit that surprisingly complimented his wavy yet artistically messy platinum white hair. But in Nico’s opinion, what was most striking about him was the color of his eyes - those gorgeous emerald green eyes that seemed to glisten under the dim lights, especially so when the man offered him the most pleasant smile he had ever seen on anyone.

There was, however, only one flaw: the man before him looked almost like the carbon copy of Percy Jackson.

“Do you mind if I join you?” The man politely asked, gesturing towards the empty seat opposite of Nico. “I won’t stay long.”

If Nico’s mind wasn’t malfunctioning, perhaps he would have questioned why this gorgeous man decided to sit with him when there were a lot of empty tables and chairs in the nearly empty establishment. But, at that moment, all he could do was nod his head robotically, his traitorous heart doing somersaults in his chest as the smile on the man’s lips widened and brightened in response. Almost immediately, as soon as the man sat down, a steaming cup of coffee and a glass of strawberry parfait was placed in front of him by one of the servers who, just as quickly, made themselves scarce.

“Here.” The man pushed the strawberry parfait towards Nico’s direction, much to the latter’s confusion. “That-” The man gestured with a tilt of his head towards the then unappetising-looking parfait in between them which Nico had been brutalizing seconds ago. “-can’t possibly be appetizing. Please, take a fresh one. My treat.”

Russet-brown eyes narrowed in response, logic and reason slowly starting to return to Nico. “Thanks for the offer, but I’m good with the one I ordered.”

For some reason, the man looked disappointed at his refusal but nodded in understanding. “I see. I won’t force you. But, rest assured, it had nothing in it.” As if to make a point, the man scooped a little bit of everything on his spoon, his eyes never leaving Nico’s as he slipped it into his mouth, his lips wrapping around the utensil.

This man should be illegal, was Nico’s questionable thought, as he watched the movement of the man’s throat, his own swallowing in tandem unbeknownst to him. Emerald green eyes sparked with amusement and delight at his response which Nico failed to notice in his moment of (apparent) weakness.

“So, what brings you to this hole-in-the-wall establishment?” The man casually inquired, pushing aside the dessert in favor of drinking his coffee. He carefully took a sip, his eyes slipping close for a brief moment as he savored its exquisite flavor.

“I could ask the same thing,” Nico countered, still cautious. “What’s a… businessman or a lawyer doing in a place like this?”

“Both, actually,” the man answered, lowering his cup. “To answer your question, I actually own this dessert bar. One of my many ventures.”

“A failed one?” Nico blurted out without thinking, slapping a hand over his mouth a second later due to his slip.

Surprisingly, the man laughed. “Is that what you believe? Success is… subjective. As long as the Nico di Angelo continues to patronize my humble establishment, I don’t see it as a failure.”

At the mention of his name, Nico stiffened in his seat, his eyes widening in alarm. The spoon slipped from his hand, landing on the table with a soft thump.

“What…? How did you…? How long…?” Nico couldn’t finish his statements. He should’ve bluffed, denied the man’s statement, something, but he was certain that it was futile to lie in front of his person. But how did this person figure out his identity? His disguise had always been impeccable. Even the paparazzi had yet to capture any images of him in disguise, only what Nico intended for them to gather.

“I’ve known since the moment you stepped inside all those years ago,” the man admitted, taking another slow sip from his cup. “But, as with any establishments that I own, it is my policy to give any of our patrons utmost privacy. As for how I know…”

Those gorgeous eyes stared intently at Nico once more, as if he was searching for something. It was only for a second, but Nico saw sadness in them when the man, presumably, didn’t find what he was looking for.

“I would recognize those beautiful brown eyes anywhere,” the man finished, his lips curling to a small smile while Nico’s cheeks reddened at the compliment. “You’re rather famous in this establishment, if you must know. But not for the reasons you’re thinking of. You’re… notorious for visiting whenever you’re in a horrible mood, taking out your anger on the food,” the man stated, gesturing towards Nico’s recent victim. “The staff actually sent me over, just to make sure you wouldn’t hurt yourself, in case you break the glass.”

“I-I’m sorry. It won’t happen again,” Nico said, embarrassed. It won’t happen again, because he mentally decided to never come here again, for the sake of preserving his dignity, or whatever remains of it.

“It’s fine, Mr. di Angelo,” the man said in reassurance. “I’m glad that you can find comfort here. Besides, this place is still running despite being a ‘failed venture’ because of you. If you stopped visiting…”

The man trailed off, but Nico could connect the dots. Great. Suddenly, he had a bunch of stranger’s employment in his conscience.

“Since you know me, I think it’s fair that I should know you as well,” Nico said, picking up his spoon from the table. Since the dessert was mostly liquid at this point, he simply stirred the ingredients inside the glass, combining them together.

“You do. You should…” the man murmured absent-mindedly, but with the clanking of the spoon against the glass, it was lost on Nico. Fixing a smile on his face, the man introduced himself. “I’m Aeon Oceanus. Just Aeon is fine.”

“Oh,” Nico blinked. “Not… Not Jackson…?”

To Nico, it seemed that he had said the wrong thing as those gorgeous eyes suddenly hardened marginally, a slight coldness to them.

“You’re wondering if I’m related to Percy Jackson.” It was a statement, not a question. Guiltily, Nico lowered his eyes to the table as Aeon sighed softly. “It’s fine. I get that question a lot. Perseus, that brat, he’s my younger twin brother. He took our mother’s maiden name since he ‘doesn’t want the family name to buy his position in the industry’,” Aeon explained. “Forgive me but I don’t really like talking about that child. It’s not as if we’re on the best terms either.”

Nico could tell. He had never heard Percy talk about an older sibling, let alone a twin. Then again, they… never had a lot of opportunities to talk. They couldn’t meet too much since that would spark rumors of them dating, which as true as they were, Percy didn’t want to be involved in. And when they did meet, it was only because their work schedules coincide or they were working on the same project.

Was I even in a relationship? Nico wondered, downing half of the parfait-turned-smoothie in one go. Thinking about it, they were more committed to their relationship towards their work than each other. Perhaps, that was why Percy couldn’t come out, Nico had to consider. Perhaps, in Percy’s head, Nico wasn’t offering him enough support as a partner for him to feel safe to come out.

Aeon quietly observed the many emotions that flitted across the younger male’s expression. He might not be on good terms with Percy, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t aware of the… events in his brother’s life.

“I should get going,” Aeon announced all of a sudden, rising from his seat. He fixed a polite smile on his face as he turned to address the young celebrity, handing him his business card. “It was a pleasure to have your company, regardless of how brief it was. If you need anything, please feel free to contact me.”

“Legal reasons? Or business reasons?” Nico asked.

“Anything,” Aeon said. Nico wasn’t fully aware of the weight of his words, but he soon will. “I have matters I need to attend to, but please feel free to stay for as long as you like. It’s on the house.”

“It’s fine, no worries,” Nico refused immediately, shaking his head. “I can pay for myself.”

There was a playful twinkle of Aeon’s eyes as he leaned down, the suddenness of the gesture surprising Nico who could only stare at the older male in stunned silence as the gap between their faces gradually became less and less. Nico barely registered the man’s thumb brushing lightly against the edge of his lips as his sense of smell was suddenly assaulted by the man’s pleasant cologne.

“This is enough payment,” Aeon said, showing his thumb towards Nico, who took a few seconds to compose himself and process what was on the other’s thumb. Belated, he realized with embarrassment that it was a small amount of cream. Before Nico could offer a tissue or a towel to wipe it down, Aeon brought it close to his lips, a pink tongue swiping gently across the pad of his finger. His eyes never left the younger male all this time, his gaze burning… something… pleasant in Nico.

“I’ll see you soon, Mr. di Angelo,” Aeon said, his words sounding like a promise as he bid his goodbye, leaving the flustered celebrity behind, clutching tightly yet preciously onto the business card left in his hands.

It was the day before your 16th birthday. The night, actually. There were only a few hours until midnight, officially starting your birthday. You and Nico had been friends since you were little, and the tradition of being each other first birthday wishes had started so long ago that you couldn’t remember a time when the two of you didn’t do it. Keeping your childhood tradition alive, you and Nico sat in your backyard, sharing a blanket to try 一 keyword: try 一 to preserve yourselves warm, fighting against the cold Swiss night.

Slowly, you lower your head, laying it on Nico’s shoulder. It wasn’t abnormal for the two of you to be touchy with each other, after all of the years you’d been friends, it was like second nature. You had never been as comfortable with anyone as you are with Nico. Which is why the silence of the moment didn’t bother you.

For a moment, you turn your head to look at Nico, your best friend, partner in crime, and favorite person in the whole world. And he looks back, with his big brown doe eyes that make your heart flutter and your brain short circuit. And your faces are so close, your noses almost touching and you can feel his hot breathing on your face. For one moment, you swear he’s coming closer, alternating his eyes between your eyes and your lips.

Until his alarm sounds loud. It’s midnight.

You two almost jump away from each other, wide startled eyes looking at each other.

“Happy birthday,” Nico says, an awkward smile gracing his lips.

You nod, saying thank you so quietly you’re not sure he heard you. But he did, Nico always listens to you.

You had always known Nico was destined for greatness. He was the most hardworking, passionate, and dedicated person you had ever met in your entire life. However, it was still quite difficult to believe you really traveled all the way from your little part of the world in Switzerland to the US to watch the NHL Draft. But, if there’s a person in the world who deserves it, it is Nico, you know it. And when The New Jersey Devils take him 1st overall, you can’t believe it. You can feel your heart bursting with pride. Nico hugs you tightly and you whisper to him, telling him how proud you are. It’s one of the happiest moments of your life, how could it not? It’s Nico, your Nico, whom you’ve known since you were 2, and he was achieving his biggest dream. You were so happy for him. Still, there was this terrible feeling at the back of your mind. When he first left Valais for Bern, it was hard, but he was still in the same country. Then, he left for Canada, when the Halifax Mooseheads drafted him. And now, he’d just been drafted into the NHL, and it felt so much more real, and the unavoidable reality which Nico and you are never gonna live in the same country again dawned on you, while you were sitting there, watching him become a devil.

It takes a while until Nico has some time to talk to you and his family again, he has been giving interviews to what seems like every single hockey reporter in the world. But when he finally gets to talk to all of you, he’s glowing, smiling so hard you wonder how his cheeks aren’t hurting. After talking with his family for a good while, you and Nico finally get some time just the two of you.

“Are you ok?” He questions, looking at you. Damned be Nico Hischier and his ability to read you, to always know exactly how you’re feeling.

“Of course I am Ni. I’m so happy for you. So proud.” You answer, truthfully. “I’ll just miss you. But we’ll survive, right?”

“Obviously. It’s me and you always, remember?” Nico lets a half laugh escape, smiling down at you, holding your right hand in his.

“Always, Neeks. Always.” You reply, looking up at him, interlocking your fingers with his.

You and Nico stare at each other for a few seconds, getting closer and closer until Katja calls you out from the other room for some more pictures.

Summer was always amazing. Nico came home, and you’d make the most of the time you had together. This year the Devils’ had gone on to the playoffs, still ending their season short of a Stanley Cup, but it was still incredibly impressive what they had been able to do. So, when Nico got to Switzerland, he definitely looked like he was more at peace with the way their season came to a finish, unlike previous years. And it was probably one of the greatest summers you had in recent years. But not today. It is Nico’s last day before he has to go back to Jersey.

You had brunch with his siblings, and now you two were in his childhood bedroom. It was not your first time here; in reality, you probably had been in this room more than Nico himself if we’re being honest. Both of you were sitting in his bed, side by side, going through a box of old pictures Rino found a few days ago. There were so many memories, so many moments eternalized in those pictures. Nico and you had been laughing at the faces you made, at all of the things you’d been through together.

You couldn’t pinpoint the moment you threw your legs on top of his, or even the moment you two had gotten so close. But when you noticed, you were almost on top of Nico. Truth be told, Nico had noticed. He always did when it was you. He knew everything about you. He knows that your favorite color is lilac, that you play with your bracelet and rings when you’re nervous, that your favorite subject was chemistry because it made you feel smart, and how you always hide your smile with your hands when you laugh 一 which Nico firmly believes should be a crime, because how dare you hide your smile?

So, he noticed. And he had been fighting with himself for around twenty minutes now because you look way too good not to be kissed, but he was so scared. You are one of the most important people in his life. It had been (Y/N) and Nico for 22 years, he couldn’t lose that. It was very difficult to ignore the urge to kiss you, hold you, and tell you about how much he loves you, how he has been in love with you since you were 14, and how he has tried so fucking hard but he will never find anyone like you. It was bordering on impossible. Until it was impossible and, in a strike of courage, a second of bravery, Nico Hischier finally kissed you. Both his hands holding your face, while you, after moving on from the shock, reciprocate the kiss, one of your hands in his neck and the other in his hair.

Nico kissed you slowly. He was kissing you like there was nowhere else he’d rather be. He smiled into the kiss, finally kissing the girl he always wanted. His heart was missing beats and he felt his hand couldn’t bring her close enough to him. Somewhere in the universe all of the stars could be burning out, the sky could cave but all he cared about was how she tasted and the warmth of her skin against his. Neither of you had ever felt so alive and you bith know this is the start of something beautiful.

I spent awhile looking around tumblr and other discords and there's a shocking lack of community that creates Percy/Nico fanwork? I couldn't find any events running.

And honestly, that's pretty tragic considering that this ship is 3/4ths canon (Nico loves Percy, and Percy considers Nico a close friend he's looks out for, protects and has jokes with). Not to mention, they're literally co-parenting a dog together?

Anyways, I wanted to get a sense if people would be interested in an event running for the week of Nico's birthday (Jan 28th, 2024 - Feb 3, 2024). So vote! Sudden Confession?!

Leaves crunch against your feet as you lift your head up with a smile, eyes closing as you take in the quiet morning as you walk to school, one hand clutching your backpack and the other holding your phone which kept buzzing

You shrug it off, thinking maybe your friends were going crazy again and we're on each other's necks, you only wanted peace and nothing else so you drop your phone in your backpack

"Yuvie!" You turn your head to your name being called, the peaceful demeanor quickly changing to you trying to not blush as you see your crush Nicholas run up to you

"Hey, you're early too" he strikes a conversation bit awkwardly, you just nod and wallk with him

Walking to school with him wasn't any new to you or him, you two always were early so you just started walking to school and he'd drop you back home too

You notice how your hands kept brushing past his, red spreading across your cheeks as you power your head, hand gripping onto the backpack as your heart goes crazy

Nicholas however notices how you were red, his mind thinking you were probably just too cold so he mindlessly takes off his hoodie and drapes it on you and walks like he didn't just worsen your condition

"What?" Nicholas asks trying to find out why you were growing redder each second, you just shake your head, "you dint talk much do you?" He asks again, now smiling, "i prefer to hear people talk" you say shrugging as you look away

"I like that about you" he states, you look at him, now it was his turn to be red, "hm?" You ask tilting your head in confusion, "you listen, not many people listen to others, you're actually a sweet girl and i love that about you" he states again looking away, you bite back a smile and just nod, "you missed your class" you say to which he stops in his tracks and runs back to his , "thank you!" He yells before stumbling into his class, "cute" you mumble and walk into your class

"Aw is yuvie thinking of her crush again?" Her friends state as they coo at the girl who shot a glare at them, "don't even start, it's only 8 am, save the readings for later" she huffs as she buries her head in her arms, only to smile and kick her legs mentally at the cute interaction between her crush and her

"Psst, Yuvie." You heard a familiar voice call out to you. Turning around, you spot Nicholas, the boy that makes your heart go crazy. "Hey, Nico." The shyness in your voice didn't go unnoticed. Nicholas finds it so cute. He can't even hide the way he smiles upon hearing your voice. "How are you today?" Nicholas' charming smile makes your heart beat faster and your face feel hot. "I'm doing fine I guess, what about you?" You struggle to make eye contact with him. Another thing he finds so cute. "I was doing okay, but I'm feeling great now that I'm speaking to you." His flirtatious words always managed to make you feel weak in the knees. "Oh hush." You giggled and so did Nicholas. Whether you knew or not, you were so important to him.

"Nicho... it's been a while now, don't you think you should confess?" Jo suggested. "I mean.... yeah... I've been thinking about it." Nicholas scratched the back of his neck nervously, thinking about how he should go about confessing. "If anything, please be like Jo who got his girl and not like Maki who's still contemplating on if he should confess to Ma-" "Zip it." Maki glared at Eujoo. "My bad." Eujoo let out a nervous chuckle. "You're right though, it's time I let Yuvie know how I feel."

The day was coming to an end. You were peacefully walking home, when suddenly your stomach began to growl. 'Should I grab something to eat?' You thought to yourself. "Hey you!" Nicholas whisper shouted. "You scared me!" You playfully hit his arm. "Why are you walking all alone?" Nicholas continued walking beside you. "Because.... I am." Nicholas chuckled at your answer. "Okay then. Hope you don't mind me joining you." Nicholas winked. "No, I don't mind." That feeling in your chest came back. The beat of your heart speeding up.

"You okay?" Nicholas tilted his head to the side, eyes showing concern. "Oh, yeah I'm fine.... just a little hungry." You avoided making any eye contact with him and continued walking. "Oh really? I can buy you something to eat." Nicholas offered. "No, it-" "What would you like?" He smiled at you. "Hmmm, maybe fries." You finally mustered up the courage to look him in the eyes. "Got it." Nicholas held eye contact for a moment, taking in how beautiful you are.

"Are you sure?" You slowly took the cup of grapes out of his hand. "Yes, anything to see my girl happy." Nicholas didn't mean to let that last part slip out, but he hoped you didn't notice. However, you did. "Did you just call me.. your girl?" The heat rose to your cheeks as you processed what he said. "Well, I just exposed myself." He couldn't stop himself from laughing. "What do you mean?" You couldn't believe the situation. Was Nicholas about to....confess?

"I like you, Yuvie...so much." Nicholas leaned a little closer to you. "I..... like you too." You shyly smiled, lowkey enjoying where this was about to go. "Will you be my girlfriend?" Nicholas' gaze made you feel a lot of things. You honestly forgot you were in public. "Yes!" The excitement in your voice was amusing to Nicholas. Suddenly, he brought his face even closer to yours and placed a little peck on your lips. "That's all?" Even though the peck was just a second, you still felt the feeling of his lips lingering. "We're still in public silly, I'll kiss you properly in private, so let's go." Nicholas smirked at how you looked away upon hearing his words. Well, now you had to get going because you definitely wanted Nicholas to kiss you properly.

Nico DiAngelo woke up in an impossibly white room.

It was rather unnerving; after all, his own bedroom at home was dark and shady with no light other than the sun’s merciful gaze, which also retreated into the horizon as dusk fell. So when his eyes opened to the bright walls surrounding him, he flinched and closed them immediately, groaning as the pain in his stomach finally sank in. Slowly, surely, his senses started coming back to him; the soft cloth on his body, the cold, still feeling of the air around him like time had ceased to exist, the strong scent of artificial fragrances with a bitter undertone. Gently patting down his torso, Nico soon realized his jacket was gone–the one his sister had gifted him on his tenth birthday–and his feet were bare. Lying here in the small rectangular room made him feel cold and restless, a feeling he didn’t like one bit.

Suddenly, like a bursting dam, memories flooded into his mind. They were completely out of order, but Nico managed to piece them together.

“Did you push me?”

“What if I did?”

“Oh, you’re so gonna get it, goth boy.”

Every movie made bar fights seem cool and tough, but in reality they were just petty fistfights between drunk people. Nico mentally berated himself for being so stupid, responding so rashly to that tattooed man. He just wanted one drink, really, one drink to forget…everything. One drink to take his mind off of things. But the after-affects made him regret all of it. If he was sober, he wouldn’t have stumbled into the large, muscled man next to him, and he most certainly wouldn’t have a throbbing black eye.

The lesson of the night? Being high alone was better than being high in public, because that just meant trouble for everyone.

But all that regret rushed by him and anger washed over him like a waterfall. Gushing anger, like the rush of blood thrpugh his veins. Bubbling anger, like a scalding pot of boiling water. He didn’t even know why – maybe he was still slightly drunk – but envisioning the man who’d given him so many bruises made Nico want to punch him where the light didn’t shine.

So when he heard light footsteps approaching, he blurted, “Fight me.” The exact words he’d recklessly said to the drunk man before he’d generously given him not one injury, but four: two punches to the jaw, one black eye, and a blow to the abdomen. It sort of sounded like a restaurant order, Nico thought deliriously.

“I’m sorry?”

A slender figure appeared over him, frowning with his head tilted. His bushel of blond curls made Nico want to reach up and touch them, though he was too tired and too beaten up to do so. This person seemed to glow, like the sun’s rays impersonized.

But the thing that really caught his attention was his eyes. They were the clearest blue he had ever seen, like a crystal clear lake. Nico couldn’t bring himself to look away.

“Fight me,” he repeated in a daze.

“Okay, I think you should get some more rest, uh..” The man looked down at the clipboard in his hand, furrowing his brows. “Nicholas. Can you get some rest for me?”

“It’s Nico,” Nico snapped on instinct. The name Nicholas was long gone, lost forever, buried beside his sister. No one ever called him that anymore, and he didn’t want anyone to call him that either. That name had been for Bianca to use, and for Bianca only.

“My apologies. Nico, we’re going to give you some pills and have you go to sleep so the pain doesn’t bother you as much. Okay?”

Nico did nothing but stare with his mouth hanging open, his head spinning so his thoughts jumbled and mixed with one another. An image of his sister flashed in his mind as the events of the night before played over and over in his head like a broken videotape.

The man placed a mask on his face, making everything in his line of sight go blurry and then fade into a black void. “Bianca..fight…me?” Nico mumbled, his head lolling to the side.

And yet again, the darkness grasped Nico in its deadly embrace.

Nico got used to the white walls. It was inevitable; after all, he was due to be there for a week, minimum. He no longer winced when the brightness flooded his eyelids, and the constant hum of the hospital would lull him to sleep every night. It was different, yes, but it became routine.

What also became routine was seeing the doctor, that blond man with the blue eyes that seemed to peer into his soul whenever he turned his gaze towards him. It sent electrical shocks through Nico’s body, though he had no clue why that happened. It just…did. He found himself watching his movements, catching his breath when his arm brushed against his skin, making him shiver pleasurably. It was a new feeling. Now, Nico didn’t like new things, but this? This was something he could get used to.

Nico remembered the first time he’d really talked to him, apart from the dazed mutterings on the first night he’d arrived. He turned red all over just thinking about it. Dr. Solace had been adjusting the machine beside him when he started making small talk.

“Quite the injuries you’ve got there, Nico.”

“Uh…”

“You were drunk, yes?”

“Oh. Yeah.”

Nico had bowed his head bashfully after his comment, completely sure that he was going to receive a talk about how alcohol was not at all healthy for the human body. Instead, Dr. Solace said with a soft chuckle,

“I found it amusing, if I’m being honest. You said some delirious stuff. “Fight me’, you kept repeating. What was that about?”

“Oh… I was just high, I guess. People do stupid stuff when they’re high.”

After a short pause, he’d continued,

“Did you respond?”

Dr. Solace had laughed then, and it was a sound Nico had never heard before. It was the sound of twinkling stars in the night sky. It was the sound of everything good and everything wonderful.

“No. But I wouldn’t fight you if you begged me on your knees. I know you’d win. I can tell.”

The best part (and the part that had Nico blushing furiously) was when he winked, his eyes glittering mischeviously as he exited the room. Every time that moment came to mind was a moment of sheer bliss. It was very unlike himself to be fond of someone after a few days of their company, but William Andrew Solace managed to wiggle his way into Nico’s heart. It was strange, but Nico welcomed it. Seeing that sun of a smile was an experience he’d never get tired of.

Apart from the doctor that came in regularly, life was hell. Hell as in everything hurt like hell. It did get better, but the uneasy feeling in his abdomen every time he woke up from a nap never faded. Nor did the pain he felt when he touched his black eye with a touch as light as a feather.

It wasn’t the best, but Will (yes, they were on a first name basis) was a ray of sunshine. And sunshine made things better. Didn’t it?

“How’s the eye, Nico?”

Will smiled gently as he walked in, his white coat billowing out behind him. Nico abruptly looked up from the book he was reading (a story about a sixth grade demigod on a quest) and shut it closed, placing it on his nightstand.

“It’s okay. Getting better.”

“The cold compress is helping, I assume?”

“Yeah.” Nico watched as he wrote something down on his notepad.

“The jaw is fine?”

“Yes, except for the occasional pain.”

“And the stomach bruise is healing, right?”

Nico went quiet.

“Right?”

With no warning, Will pulled the blanket draped over Nico’s thin figure down to his waist, gently lifting up the hospital gown he was wearing. Nico felt his face heat up as the doctor studied his stomach, exhaling deeply every now and then. His fingers brushed the expanse of his stomach, grazing over the purple bruise. Nico’s breath caught in his throat, and was only released when Will covered his torso with the blanket once again.

“Why didn’t you tell me about this? That’s a nasty one,” Will finally said with a grimace. “That’s gonna take time to get better. I didn’t think it was very serious at first, but–” He raked a hand through his unruly hair. “I’ll have a nurse bring you an ice pack and some ibuprofen, that should help. In the meantime, get some more sleep.”

“More sleep?” Nico repeated incredulously. All he’d been doing for the past few days was sleeping on and off. If he slept any more, he was sure he was going to go into a coma.

“Yes, more sleep,” Will emphasized.

“But–”

“Doctor’s orders.”

Nico suddenly realized Dr. Solace was closer than he’d ever been before. He could spot the sparkle in his eyes, the slight upturn of his lips.

“Fine,” he sighed, breaking the moment. He slid down so he was completely on his back, pulling his thin blanket up to his chin. Will shut off the lights after writing something else on his notepad, standing at the doorway.

Although Nico protested against taking rest, he found his eyelids growing heavier by the second. His sight went blurry as he finally closed them, his chest rising and falling with even breaths.

And as he went to sleep, he swore he heard an angelic voice say,

“Sweet dreams, Nico.”

Will wasn’t there when he woke up the next day. Today was the last of Nico’s time at the hospital, which meant he was free to go whenever he wanted. But, just in case Dr. Solace made an appearance again, he stayed. Sitting up in bed, Nico picked up his book and gingerly opened it, processing the words slowly. ADHD made reading incredibly hard, but Nico put up with it. Books were his escape from reality, where he had no one to care for, and no one to care for him. In the fictional stories he read, he found friends; imaginary ones, but friends nevertheless.

He had just started reading the first sentence on the page (the protagonist was just about to jump off the Gateway Arch, apparently) when he noticed a sliver of green peeking out just above the last page. Cautiously, he flipped to the end of the novel. There, on the back cover, was a sticky note. Nico quickly scanned its contents, a grin growing on his face as he did so. His heartbeat kicked up rapidly as he read it over and over again, even though he already had the words etched into his mind. He memorized the look of Will’s handwriting as he gazed at the sticky note:

Sorry not sorry - Karim Adeyemi

Pairing: Karim Adeyemi x female Schlotterbeck reader, Nico Schlotterbeck x sister reader, Keven Schlotterbeck x sister reader

Warnings: unrequited love (at first), heartbreak, fluff, some nice brothers and sister moments, guilty feelings for Nico, happy ending though, a bit of ignoring as well, tiny bit of badly translated German

Note: As always, English is not my first language. This one has been on my mind since forever and so here it is. Nico is playing matchmaker, but in the wrong way at first. I love the brothers/sister dynamic in this though. Oh and reader is the baby sister, mentioning that just in case. Please do not copy and/or publish my work, reblogging is fine!

If there is one thing she hated, it is her brother trying to play matchmaker. Nico loves to interfere with her love life and tries to get her to date some of his friends. She refuses every time, they are not her type most of the time. Luckily, Keven always backs her up when Nico suggests going on a date with another friend. She knows he only does it to make sure she ends up with a guy that would treat her right, but he clearly has no clue what her type is. Which is kind of ironic, because there is one friend that he doesn’t try to make her go on a date with and that’s just the guy that’s her type.

Nico and Karim are like brothers, they’ve been best friends since forever. She is two years younger than Nico, which makes her Karim’s age. She always gets along great with Karim as well, but the older she got the more her crush on Karim grew. She didn’t tell anyone and she still doesn’t tell anyone. Keven knows, but that’s because he figured it out on his own. He thinks it’s hilarious that his younger brother is trying to match their sister with a friend, when she’s in love with his best friend. He promised he wouldn’t tell anyone, she made him swear, but he hates the way she pines after Karim and the boy just doesn’t see. He’s afraid her heart will be broken.

And that day comes sooner than any of them expected. It’s a warm day when Keven is celebrating his birthday and he invited Karim as well, since he’s practically family and he gets along with him as well. What no one expected was Karim bringing a girl, his new girlfriend to be exact. Keven of course greets him happily and introduces himself to the girl. But the second he walks away he’s looking for his baby sister. He sees her not too far, trying to hold back the tears. The second she makes eye contact with Keven and sees the worried look he sends her, the tears break through and she practically runs upstairs. Keven immediately goes after her.

He follows her to the guest room and stops her from locking the door. He pushes through before locking the door himself. She throws herself in his arms, tears streaming and harsh sobs leaving her. He softly sways them side to side whilst shushing her and telling her everything will be alright. At the same time Nico is greeting Karim and his new girlfriend, no one has noticed that the brother and sister vanished from the party. That is until Karim asks for her, wanting to introduce her to his new girlfriend. Nico looks around trying to find her, but when he doesn’t see her he frowns.

“I’ll check upstairs, I’ll be right back.”

Nico goes upstairs, checking from room to room. He soon enough hears sobs coming from the guest room at the end of the hall. He immediately sprints the last bit and knocks on the door. He hears Keven ask who it is and then hears him ask their sister if he can open the door for Nico. He can’t hear her response, but soon enough the door opens. He walks in and finds their sister a mess in Keven’s arms. Keven almost gives him a desperate look, Nico asking him what’s going on with his eyes. Keven just shakes his head and presses a kiss to their sister’s forehead.

She looks up to find Nico looking at her, his expression concerned. Another loud sob leaves her before she moves from Keven to Nico, wrapping her arms around his waist as she hides her face against his chest. It’s like old times, Nico being the one that can calm her down the best. He gives Keven a confused look, who whispers what’s going on. Shock covers Nico’s face, he really hadn’t noticed at all and now he feels incredibly guilty. He hadn’t noticed his sister being in love with his best friend and he set up said best friend with his current girlfriend. Nico tightens his arms around his sister and starts apologizing whilst rubbing her back softly. Apologizing for not seeing, for aiding his best friend in breaking her heart.

It isn’t long before there is another knock at the door. Keven asks who it is, only for Karim to reply. And whilst Nico had managed to calm their sister down some, the sob that leaves her after hearing Karim’s voice, breaks the heart of both her brothers.

“It’s better if you don’t come inside Karim. She’s not feeling well and Nico is gonna take her to his apartment so she doesn’t make others sick at the party.”

Karim isn’t completely convinced. He heard the sob through the door and knows it can’t possibly be because she’s feeling ill. He accepts it though and moves back downstairs. Nico brings her to his car without anyone else noticing. He drives her to his apartment and once inside he grabs her a sweater and some joggers before turning on the shower.

“Get comfortable, and don’t feel pressured about not being at the party. Keven understands and we’ll make sure you won’t see Karim for a while. We’ll help you get over the crush.”

“Thank you Nic, I love you and Kev.”

“We love you too.”

Nico goes back to the party, explaining to everyone why their little sister wouldn’t attend the rest of the party. Of course their parents were suspicious, but they didn’t say anything. In the next few weeks she did everything she could to avoid seeing Karim. With the help of her brothers that was quite an easy thing to do. When the brothers had a game at the same time, she went to Keven’s game. When she could go to Nico’s game, she would be gone before the men even went into the tunnel after full time. She ignored Karim’s texts and let his calls go to voicemail. It frustrated him to no end. He doesn’t understand what’s going on or what he did wrong for her to be avoiding him. A few weeks went by and Karim’s had enough. He corners Nico to try and get something out of him, knowing that Nico can’t keep his mouth shut at all.

“Why is your sister avoiding me? And don’t try to lie to me, I know she’s avoiding me. I just don’t know why.”

“I don’t know. And if I did know I wouldn’t tell you.”

Karim is shocked as Nico passes him. Nico’s never reacted to him like this before. And this is the first cold shoulder Nico has ever given him. After getting all his thoughts together, he runs after Nico. Nico has a fast pace, clearly trying to get away as fast as he can. Karim calls his name and it only makes Nico walk faster. Karim sprints after him though and grabs his arm. Nico immediately pulls away, but Karim jumps in front of him. Nico heaves a deep sigh as he avoids Karim’s eyes.

“I can’t tell you. I’ve already hurt her enough when it comes to you. I’m not gonna make it worse.” Karim is even more confused now.

“What do you mean Nico? Hurt her enough when it comes to me? What is this about? Please tell me, she’s my friend too and I have no clue why she’s decided not to have contact with me.”

Nico sees the look in Karim’s eyes and knows he won’t let it go. So he heaves another deep sigh before explaining it all to Karim. How Nico setup Karim with his current girlfriend, not knowing his own sister was harboring feelings for Karim. He told Karim about the crying and the promise of helping her avoid Karim so she could get over her feelings. Karim stands there with wide eyes and when Nico is finished with his explanation, he slaps Nico at the back of his head. Nico looks at Karim confused whilst rubbing the spot Karim just hit.

“I’ve been in love with her too! If I would have known I would have never agreed to you setting me up. Not that it matters because we already broke up, but still. How did you not notice it from either of us?! I know we didn’t notice, but you?!”

“Hang on, you love my sister back? And you’re also single again now?”

As Karim nods at Nico’s words, Nico immediately grabs Karim’s arm and pulls him to his car. In the car he calls Keven, explaining everything to him. Keven scolds Nico at first, for telling Karim everything, but since it’s all working out now, he’ll make sure their sister is home. Nico drives as fast and safely as he can. He feels the need to fix this, it’s his fault his sister has a broken heart when it’s not even necessary for her to have it because Karim loves her back. They arrive at Nico’s childhood home, where she still lives and both of them jump out of the car as fast as they can.

Nico tries to open the door fast, but before he can even put the key into the lock, the door opens. Keven is standing there and urging them to come inside.

“She’s been trying to leave the house for the past 10 minutes, she has plans with friends. What took you so long?? You know what nevermind, she’s in the living room.”

Nico looks at Karim, who ushers him forward because he knows she’ll react badly if she sees him first. So Nico heads into the living room first, only to find his sister in an incredibly bad mood, shooting daggers with her eyes at him. He immediately holds up his hands and her expression softens a bit. She was expecting Keven to come in and at the moment she doesn’t really like her eldest brother for keeping her home. Her eyes rake over Nico as she immediately spots that he’s nervous and yet she can’t seem to think of a reason why. But when she spots Karim behind him, she knows why he’s nervous and rightfully so. Her pissed off expression returns with more fire.

“What the fuck Nico! What is he doing here, I thought you were on my side.” She practically hisses her brother’s way. He looks a little lost for words, she’s never been this pissed at him before but then finds his words.

“Sorry not sorry, but I told him.” She eyes her brother suspiciously not sure what he means, although she can guess what it is that he couldn’t keep a secret.

“Told him what exactly?!”

Nico tries to make himself a bit smaller, pulling his head in as he prepares for her wrath. “I told Karim about how much you like him and …”

Nico doesn’t even get to finish his sentence before she hurls the couch cushions his way. He tries to avoid them as much as he can, even hitting away a few, only to have to run the second they stop because she’s running at him. As a footballer though he’s quite a bit faster than her and he outruns her around the kitchen table. As he runs back to the couch, she tries to catch him only to be held back by Karim. She tries to twist and turn out of his hold, she even tries to stomp his feet to get to Nico.

“It’s okay, I like you back. I like you back!”

He almost has to shout to get her attention because she’s hurling insults at Nico, but once it registers what he’s said, she freezes on the spot. The room is so silent you could hear a pin drop. She slowly turns her head to face Karim.

“Don’t even start. You have a girlfriend, there is not a single universe where you like me back.” She sounds incredibly sure about herself, but everyone can see she’s doubting her own words.

“I don’t have a girlfriend anymore. I dumped her because she wasn’t you. I’ve been crazy about you for years, it’s a miracle Nico never noticed, let alone you. And please don’t blame Nico, I cornered him. And without him telling me, we wouldn’t be here right now.”

She watches Karim’s eyes as he talks, trying to see a lie in there. She doesn’t find one, yet remains silent. It makes Karim nervous now too, has she gotten over him in the past few weeks, is what he wonders. His hold on her loosens a little and she immediately breaks free, making a break for Nico, who didn’t expect it. He closes his eyes and tries to turn from her, afraid of getting hit when he feels her hugging him instead. He opens one eye to make sure, he feels her tighten her grip and sees her hiding her face against his arm, which is protecting his chest. He pulls away so he can free his arms to wrap them around her.

“Like I said before Kleine Schwester; sorry not sorry.” She laughs a little at that before whispering a small thank you.

She turns back to Karim, who is standing there a little unsure. She walks up to him slowly and stands in front of him without touching him. She observes his reaction to her presence so close and concludes that he is trying not to lean towards her, to give her space. She looks him in the eyes before asking: “You’re 100% sure that you don’t have a girlfriend anymore?” He agrees with her straight away, only to be surprised when she puts her hands on his cheeks to pull him closer. She murmurs a soft ‘good’ before pressing her lips to his.

He immediately reciprocates and wraps his arms around her waist. They ignore the gagging sounds from both Nico and Keven. He pulls away first to catch his breath and press his forehead to hers.

“I have to correct myself, I think I do have a girlfriend.”

There are gasps behind them and her eyes widen in panic, afraid she’s just kissed a taken man. “You.” He whispers to her. She relaxes only to tense up again to hit his chest. He starts laughing at her reaction and tries to avoid the hits against his chest. When she calms down enough, she wraps her arms around his waist whilst his arms wrap around her shoulders. She presses a kiss to the corner of his mouth.

“I don’t think I ever agreed to be your girlfriend, Adeyemi.” This time it’s him that panics, but he sees the playful smirk on her face.

“Is that so? Well then it seems I need to ask you a question. Do you want to be my girlfriend?”

“I’d love nothing more.”

his boots! there's nothing special about them. nicked them from a military surplus however long ago. easy to get on and stay on, well worn in at this point. comfortable and probably steel toed. hes not sentimental about them, if he lost them or they wore out he would get the same pair again and those would be his new favourite boots. theyre good boots!
