Yes Lan Zhan is a Stoic Boy™️ who gets real silly after one (1) drink and does shit like steal chickens and invent graffiti, but did we forget when he tied Wei Ying's hands together, pretended to run away from him, then looped Wei Ying's arms around his neck like "oh nooo you caught meeeee"?
That shit is peak drunk Lan Zhan. What a fucking child, i love him so much

11. itmf fic where wwx is cultivating the ghostly path like in the novel. i'd like recs for a cultivation that's more a compassion/empathy-based collaboration that results in the liberation of the resentful dead not an antihero necromancer forcing the dead to do his will for the greater good. thanks ❤️🩵

12. Hi! I was just wondering if you have any good, longer fluff pieces. They can have plot, but in general everyone is happy and no one gets hurt (unless it’s jgs). I know canon makes it a bit more difficult, but if you have any recs, that would be great! I’m just looking for fluff, humor, and plot
Thank you!

ahhh I just sent in an itmf ask about WWX dying but not really? I meant to specify that I want him to be "dead" for a long period of time, not just a brief gimmick. 🔒Brotherhood by LtLJ (G, 10k, JC & WWX, CQL canon, Canon Divergence, Yunmeng Brothers Reconciliation, Angst with a Happy Ending, Canon-Typical Violence, BAMF WWX, BAMF JC, breaks from canon during the time skip, YLLZ WWX)

Hiiii apple!!!! I was wondering if you have any headcanons about the juniors waking up early or how they handle mornings? maybe if they were all studying at the cloud recesses or something and have to wake up at the same time as the lans 🤣
OH YES, YES I DO. ✨
I’ll start with the one who’s obviously the best at handling mornings:
• Lan Sizhui
He’s the unofficial leader of the ducklings, so of course he’d be up at 5am sharp with zero complaints but he’d also be the one waking the others up if they sleep in, not to annoy them but to make sure they don’t get in trouble.
The majority of the time, he wakes up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day but I do headcanon that he occasionally tries to stay up a little late to read, study or practice guqin and there’s just some mornings where he wishes he could sleep in—because let’s be real, no matter who you are, we all have those days.
• Lan Jingyi
He wakes up at 5 for two reasons: food and because he has to. Otherwise, he’d definitely wake up at the crack of noon and eat chicken for breakfast every morning if he could.
Unfortunately, no matter how long he’s been waking up at the same time, his internal alarm clock just doesn’t set for 5. Usually, Lan Sizhui finds him sprawled out on his bed like a starfish with his mouth hanging open, still very much passed out and has to shake him awake at the last minute to save him from their seniors—even if that means smacking him with a pillow or pushing him off the bed.
• Ouyang Zizhen
Oh, my dear sweet Zizhen. He’s literally Nie Huaisang with a filter. He won’t complain, but he definitely doesn’t want to wake up at 5. He rises like a zombie on the verge of tears, rolls out of bed like a sloth and falls back asleep at breakfast.
Lan Sizhui has to keep waking him up so he gets a chance to eat his food before Lan Jingyi tries to steal it, despite getting smacked on the hand with Lan Sizhui’s chopsticks every time.
• Jin Ling
God save whoever wakes up our Prince of peonies because he is not a morning person in the slightest. The only one who can even attempt to wake him up without risking injury is Lan Sizhui and even then, Jin Ling hates him for it.
But he knows Lan Sizhui is only looking out for him, so gets up and sits in bed with the blanket wrapped around him, staring at the wall with puffy, murderous eyes for several minutes before begrudgingly getting ready for the day.
He doesn’t talk to anyone before he’s had his tea, and anyone who tries to talk to him before he’s had his tea?
May they rest in peace. 🪦🙏 (RIP Jingyi)

I take requests for fluff here, and once a month I hold a 3-emoji writing event. I also occasionally ask for writing ideas.

Tumblr media
-ˋˏ🌥 ┈┈ @battleguqin inquired ; ❛  be careful.  ❜
HE HAS TO GET IT FROM Wei Wuxian, that was the only thought that rang through Lan Wangji’s mind when he felt Lan Sizhui connect with him and push him out of the way. Of course it doesn’t him far, not only was Lan Wangji bigger he was also stronger than the young man. Something to be expected considering how long he’s been Cultivating compared to Lan Sizhui.
Instead of letting himself be moved out of the way, his arm lowered down to wrap back around the Junior Lan and twisted them both out of the way. He feels the claws of the monster connect with his arm, feels it rip at his flesh and slash his robe open. A simple tear in his clothes wasn’t about to stop him from fighting, not even the fact he can feel the blood that dripped down his forearm only to be absorbed by the tattered remains of his robes. It definitely strung, definitely hurt, but his primary focus was both on Lan Sizhui.
The arm around the younger man’s shoulders tightens slightly and then moves enough to grasp him on the back of his collar and pull him from his waist. He tucks him behind his back, where he would be safe, his gaze never once leaving the monster across from them. “Do not move.” The order is given quietly and with a heavy warning, one that Lan Sizhui would clearly be able to hear in the tone of his voice. That determined force and worry.
Trusting him to not move, he summoned his Guqin and placed his fingers on the strings.
When dealing with monsters of unknown origins, it was difficult to nail exactly their weakness and even more difficult to fight when attempting to defend someone. To not let your emotions control you in a fight is one of the first things Lans are taught when studying the ways of the sword. With certain people, it’s something that has caused Lan Wangji problems before. Wei Wuxian and Lan Sizhui were two of those people. Constantly aware of them and trying to protect them, he can get himself in trouble. That was what happened here, he was too focused on Lan Sizhui to notice when the creature had turned his eyes to him instead. This was part of what made teaching the boy he had taken in so difficult.
Tumblr media
When the fight finally ended and the monster was eradicated, he returned Wangji to the cloth cover and once more strapped it to his back with Bichen. As he made his way over toward Lan Sizhui he ran his gaze searchingly along the other’s body, worry once more prevalent in the way he held himself. For the most part, Lan Sizhui seemed fine.
Then, his gaze flicked up to meet the set of eyes that so strongly reminded him of someone else's. “...Sizhui.” Do not do it again. Attempt to shove him out of the way. Telling him to be careful when he clearly didn’t consider himself in that situation.
He’s lost someone important to him already, if he lost A-Yuan too there might be no recovering for him.
“Do not act irrationally.” When words fail, recite Cloud Recesses' rules.

Iron Hook
It’s really quiet a freaky little tale and Jin Ling is back, which is good.
I like the way Wei Ying educates the Juniors by making sure they all, get turns and learn when they’re on night hunts.
I also love how they get uncomfortable just at the sight of how Lan Zhan holds Wei Ying.
My guess is that they can’t wait to get away so they don’t have to see WangXian ripping clothes off and more.

mdzs/cql ask meme: 1, 2, 6, 12, 25 :)))
1. which adaptations have you seen/watched? which one do you like best and why?
I’ve watched both the donghua and CQL (and read the book and some of the manhua). I’m not sure if I have a definitive answer to which visual adaptation is better? The donghua is gorgeous, especially all the demonic cultivation in the third season (plus it was my first mdzs adaptation, my first danmei of any kind actually). I do really enjoy CQL tho, and there are things I like and dislike about both adaptations. That answer is a total cop out but it’s also the truth 😂
2. top 5 favorite characters? what specifically do you like about each one?
Okay so I thought I had this, no problem, and then I counted again and realized I had six characters lmao... I’m not doing this in order bc that’s too many decisions to deal with
1. Wei Wuxian - What can I say, I love a tragic hero! I am intrigued by how smart he is (inventing demonic cultivation, lure flags, etc) but also how he makes mistakes and does some really fucked up stuff even tho he has good intentions. A great complex character!
2. Lan Wangji - I mean who doesn't like Hanguang-jun? He's a badass and a romantic, plus he's stubborn as shit. I really appreciate his relationships with the juniors. I also think his whole teenage angst about liking wwx is fantastic, and also him being super horny and dominant... I am a fan of novel dynamics for wangxian's sex life lol
3. Xue Yang & Xiao Xingchen - I am a slut for a good tragedy and for messed up characters! Plus I love identity porn. Yi City and XueXiao were basically tailored to my personal taste.
4. Lan Sizhui - He's just a good boy! And I like the added complexity of his identity.
5. Jiang Cheng - Honestly it took me a little while to latch onto him as hard, but he grew on me steadily. I originally mostly thought about him in relation to WWX, but damn he's been through a lot! Raising his nephew and running his sect on his own after he's lost everything? Really fucking sad and angry about it? That's good shit!
Also want to note that I like all of these characters in all adaptations, but their actors all did a fantastic job in cql and really added to my love for the characters, especially Wang Haoxuan as Xue Yang and Wang Zuocheng as Jiang Cheng!
6. unpopular opinions?
1. I don’t hate Jiang Cheng or Lan Qiren? those can be pretty unpopular opinions
2. I’m a white American and my reading of danmei is definitely colored by my different experiences/worldview... I try to be aware of that as much as I can be and to read meta by Chinese disaspora (EDIT: I wrote this like a year ago and idk where I was going with this, but I think I was trying to say something about how I try to make sure my opinions aren't culturally insensitive? Bc some of the takes you see definitely are)
12. do you like any other of mxtx's works? is mdzs your first of hers or did you watch/read the others first?
It’s less obvious on tumblr bc there’s less content I come across compared to twt but your girl is a Scum Villain main lmao (EDIT: That was written a year ago when I started answering this ask. One of the advantages to twt's whole mess is that there's more scum villain content on tumblr now!!)
That said, I have read all three MXTX novels, watched all three donghuas, watched CQL, and read at least part of all three manhuas (rip sv manhua)
my order of watching/reading (with some overlap) was something like: watched mdzs donghua s1-2 >>> read mdzs novel >>> watched cql >>> started scumbag system >>> started heaven official’s blessing donghua >>> read scum villain >>> read what little there is of the sv manhua >>> waited several months?? and then read tgcf >>> dabbled with mdzs and tgcf manhuas >>> watched mdzs donghua s3
25. queer headcanons?
- I definitely see Wei Wuxian as bi, altho I can understand reading him as a gay man who isn’t actually attracted at all to the women he flirts with - On the other hand, 90% of the time I see Lan Wangji as gay. The other 10% is me going “but what if Wei Ying was a girl tho”
I don’t think I have a lot of definitive non canon queer headcanons for mdzs honestly? There are definitely ones I enjoy and ones I don’t really see, but a lot of times I’m just happy to be taken along for the ride of other people’s headcanons for a fic or meta. Here are a few I’ve enjoyed:
- Asexual Jiang Cheng - Bisexual Jiang Fengmian (in love with Wei Changze) - Trans headcanons/AUs for various characters

I have greatly enjoyed your Best Boy Jingyi tag! A Concept: the Lan clan have already weaponized Jingyi (see: LWJ ignoring JC and letting Jingyi take him to task on more than one occasion, LQR being all 'I See Nothing' when he goes off on Su She). I wanna see JL and OZ do the same thing on Four Duckling adventures. "We're sect leaders, Jingyi, we can't say it! You go!" and of course he does. I think it would be beautiful. Everyone wins.
dude they wouldn’t even have to ask him, they’d just keep their mouths shut for two seconds and he’d already be tearing into whoever is causing problems. it backfires on them sometimes because he doesn’t pull any punches when he’s talking to them either (which is why he and jin ling get off to a rocky start, because jin ling is sensitive, bless him). but everybody needs a friend who will tell it to them like it is. you always know where you stand with jingyi, and in a world of political maneuvering and two-facedness, someone who will just come out and tell you when he’s peeved with you is a breath of fresh air.
(okay i was delighted by your asks so i went to check out your blog and that’s how i discovered you’re currently writing A FIC ABOUT THE DUCKLING ADVENTURES???? i am so excited to read it this weekend, omg)

I really enjoy that my post about NHS is gaining traction again because one thing that drives me mildly insane about this fandom is the insistence that we need to find a reason why the characters are morally good and good people and they are justified in everything they do.
The only people in MDZS that are ‘Good’ are the Juniors, everyone else has made some bad fucking decisions because they were pushed into a corner, or just generally love carnage (Xue Yang my love <3 ) but they’re all covered in blood!
Wei Wuxian is a mass murderer, both in war and out. He very much did kill his brother in law, yes he lost control but he still killed him. The necromancy is more culture wise but like fucking with innocent spirits? Destroying chances at reincarnation? Ripping innocent and sleeping spirits out of the neverworld to serve him? That’s fucked up
Jiang Cheng probably (and I say probably because we don’t get any proof just heresay but yeah he probably did) killed Demonic cultivators, he lashed out at his family and hurt those he cared about in his anger. He also helped Wei Wuxian murder and torture Wen Chao.
Lan Wangji? Did not give a single Fuck about the Wen’s and actively tried to get Wei Wuxian to leave them behind but Wei Wuxian was too stubborn. (And we can also talk about the kidnapping, holding Wei Wuxian against his will, you get my point)
Lan Xichen has his entire, refused to acknowledge the signs and keeps turning back to A-Yao thing. Also we could put in the bit of him and NMJ not stepping up for Jiang Cheng which caused the Jiang’s to bear the full brunt of Jin Guangshan, but also like I get it because of their position after the war. So was it a shitty thing to do? Ye. Understandable? Ye. Also like??? Didn’t stop his brother from carrying a screaming, fighting, very upset Wei Wuxian (currently known only as Mo Xuanyu) into Cloud Recesses and locking him in. Which is like hilarious since it’s fictional but also like morally not very good if you’re going to try and say he did nothing wrong.
Nie Huaisang? Put the thirteen year old kids in danger, actively well aware that they could be slaughtered by: The Arm, Xue Yang, Random Fierce Corpses. He has no gurantee that Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji will arrive in time to save them, or that they could even win against Xue Yang. He also deliberately caused Lan Xichen to kill Jin Guangyao, and helped (and no I’m not going to say manipulated because MXY was well aware of what he was doing because HE was the only one who could have gotten the spell and I think it erased that MXY was also a murderer just post death) Mo Xuanyu prepare a suicide ritual that would guarantee the death of the entire Mo Village. Also raised a guy using a Demon summoning spell with no guarantee that he wouldn’t be batshit insane or corrupted by the spell.
I do not get the need to make any of the characters stand on moral pedestals because none of them are ‘Good’ people but I’d also say that, bar a few exceptions, none of them are ‘Bad’ people either. They’re just People, and constantly trying to rewrite canon to make your fav Unproblematic does a disservice to the writing.
#mdzs#the untamed#Jiang Cheng#Wei Wuxian#nie huaisang#lan wangji#Lan Zhan#Lan Xichen#meta#I think?#no but seriously the kids are the only ones you can consider good#and even then I really hate that because good is a choice not a fact#like every single one of the adults had committed some kind of war crime/ fucked up bad/ did something super shitty#there’s no morality argument here all your favs are problematic <3#but also like?? it’s fiction#stop erasing parts of the characters to make them Good and Unproblematic to justify you liking them#Lan Wangji is a petty fucking bitch and I like him SO MUCH#there’s a point where ‘Everyone has their own interpretation’ is just not valid anymore and it’s#when you rewrite canon or erase parts of it to make the character fit what you want and then demand other ppl do the same#or just act like you have the high ground because you don’t want to admit that Lan Wangji is a disrespectful brat who gets away with shit#bcz his brother let’s him#he is not a paragon of justice#he’s a paragon of a little brother who’s family babies him#(not a hit on him tho I’m sure some of you won’t care but ye LWJ is a shit <3 )#basically I’m super fucking annoyed that people insist on making these guys Heroes and Perfect Moral Examples#when half of them are mass murderer’s and the rest are literal teenagers#like if you want to only read fanon then great but stop insisting it’s canon and getting pissy when others don’t follow it#this gets me going almost as much as the Wangxian= Sizhui’s dads thing#because no… they are Not

I was thinking about generational trauma and how what their parents do ripples down to effect the choices of the mc's and how that then ripples down to the juniors and how they handle things, but also how the mc's (especially jc, jzx, lwj) go out of their way to avoid making those mistakes - think jzx and jyl and how lwj taught his juniors not to obey mindlessly and how jc is so clearly a safe harbour for jl and how even in mirrored situations the juniors are much better equipped than they were
An entire generation looked back at their parents and said “RIP but I’m different”.
Yanli’s mother and Zixuan’s parents are united in really wanting them to get married, and she really likes him but he’s demonstrated that he’s just not that into her? She’s not going to touch his dick until he says he wants her out loud in public and builds her a Lotus pond. Zixuan will marry a woman he loves and knows he can build something good with. He will find their son delightful for the short time he has with him
Lan Wangji is raising a child with a complicated secret family history, who is related to people widely considered to be criminals and monsters? He’s going to bury that child in rabbits and love and raise him to understand that there are two sides to every story and there is often good in people even if they’re broadly reviled. When a zombie and a necromancer walk back into his life he’s going to be allowed to see them whenever he wants.
Jiang Cheng has a surprise orphan baby he didn’t plan on raising? He’s gonna love the shit out of that kid. Jin Ling is going to grow up knowing no one is allowed to hurt him, someone will always come running if he screams for help,  and there’s at least one person out there who is always, unquestioningly going to be on his side.

1. I'm looking for a fic that's during the Cloud Recesses study arc where, WWX I think, found out Wen Chao couldn't read and started teaching him. I think a couple of the other kids started helping him, MianMian maybe? I can't remember much but they definitely helped him learn how to read and became friends. TIA
FOUND? Wei Wuxian’s Super Special Super Secret Book Club by Anonyma (T, 31k, WWX & WC & LQY, WangXian, Canon Divergence)
~*~
2. hello!! All good? I'm looking for a collection of one shots, and I can't find it, I read it a little while ago but I remember a one shot, where Jiang Cheng and Wei Ying were discussing the fact that Wei Ying had saved the heirs of the sects in cave and Jin Ling was listening and Wei Ying was saying that if he hadn't saved the heirs Jin Ling wouldn't exist and Jiang Cheng said something like, Whatever.... Honestly, I don't even remember the tags, but Jiang Cheng and Wei Ying realizing that Jin Ling had heard, Wei Ying asks what Jin Ling wants. @sweettiebah
FOUND! 🔒 Chapter 11: Careless Words of Short Prompts by Vrishchika (JL POV - Not JC Friendly - WWX loses his patience)
~*~
3. Hello !! Ive read this fanfic a while ago and I have multiple ss of it since i like to save memorable parts of the fic but now i cant remember it anymore </3 i dont remember the synopsis but there was a scene where Lwj and Wwx were in an inn while out night hunting, and wwx suspected the person serving them to have poisoned lwj, wwx got really angry and threatened the guy to the max
quote:
Wei Wuxian slammed him against the wall again, cutting off his rapid ramblings and jostling his fractured arm. "Your stories bore me," he spoke lowly, peering his head around slightly so as to almost look into Heng She's face. He still had yet to acknowledge Lan Wangji's presence. "Tell me why you poisoned the tea, or I will hang you in the street by your intestines, ripped open to let the crows feed on your liver." @jingyisbff

4. Hello! T__T I have my focus mode on so my distracting apps like twitter (x) are paused. I took a 5 minutes break and opened it. I saw a threadfic of Bottomji/Topxian (Omegaverse) They already have 3 kids (Yuan, Twins) but they are all alphas. lwj wants a daughter (or an omega son). He rode wwx that night then let him knot him for 3x. They were on a date and lwj bought some robes for a girl the confronts wwx that he wants a daughter.... Thats all Ive read. I want to read the whole thread but my app closed. 💔 Can you guys help me with it? I cant find it anymore.

5. Hi, I need help finding a fic I’m pretty sure I’ve seen recommended on here a couple years ago.
I don’t remember the title or the author. It was on AO3. It was an Alternative Universe fic where WWX is an art student (and lived in a dorm with the Wen siblings) and LWJ has a very active but discreet sex life. WangXian know each other but they’re not together. Eventually they start sleeping with each other (WWX doesn’t realize LWJ actually likes him and he’s not just another hookup). There is also a secondary plot about one of LWJ’s past hookups stalking and tormenting them at a club or party at some point? T
his is all I can remember, unfortunately. I hope to reach someone who knows which fic this is by asking on here. WangXian nation, do your thing! 🙏
FOUND? show me a quiver, give me tonight by spookykingdomstarlight (E, 115k, wangxian, lwj/others, communication failure, mutual pining, artists, demisexual wwx, angst w/ happy ending) It doesn't match exactly but some details do
~*~
6. For fic finder, a fic I read a good while back.
It was one of those “jgs magically spies on the burial mounds to get people to hate wwx and the remnants” but in this one wwx and lwj did the “a-yuan is birthed from wwx” thing and the people spying believe it. Lqr passes out for a bit and lxc and jc start planning a wedding since lwj apparently deflowered wwx. I think it was completed
FOUND! Assumptions by draechaeli (T, 50k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, Mainly Novel with a few CQL and Donghua bits, Somebody Lives/Not Everyone Dies, Adoption, Adoption but WWX birthed them all, not mpreg, Not Established Relationship, Fluff, Canon-Typical Violence, Fix-It, gender non-conforming titles)
~*~
7. Hello! Here's one I've read a dozen times and would swear I have bookmarked, but now I can't find it. Basically, LZ is a courtesan/assassin who's sent by JGS to seduce and kill the powerful Yiling Patriarch. Meng Yao is working with LZ, although he has his own plans against JGS, of course. WWX later realizes LZ's brother is alive and looking for him, so he brings them together. (By the way, are you thinking of adding a Courtesan compilation? There are plenty of good ones to rec!) Thank you! @ladysalieri (we don't have a courtesan au specific comp but we do have a royalty one that includes a few! ^^ - Mod C)
FOUND! out to get you (to get you) by iliacquer (E, 41k, wangxian, graphic depictions of violence, switching, top/bottom LWJ, top/bottom WWX, power play, courtesan LWJ, assassin LWJ, dark lord WWX, bondage, happy ending, past slavery)

8. Hello i am looking for a fic where modern lwj time travels to the canon era and becomes original lwj, in the fic he is betrothed to yilling patriarch wy who sends him letters, and wy becomes more desperate and insane because lwj doesn't answers his letters. @ahiku-chan
FOUND? if this is a dream, i pray to never wake up by dangodangomilk (M, 27k, WangXian, Marriage, Weddings, Engagement, Canon Divergence, Parallel Universes, YLLZ WWX, false amnesia, Implied/Referenced Sex, Fluff and Angst, Sexual Content)

9. hello! i'm looking for a fic from lwj's pov. he runs into wwx (dark) in yiling i think, after burial mounds but before his new body. lwj is horrified by how bad he looks and convinces him to go to an inn (wwx mean), they have sex. during this lwj realizes that wwx's bones are all broken from his fall in the burial mounds and he is holding them stable with resentful energy. he can't heal them, but the resentful energy is working as a stopgap. possibly of it's own volition? bittersweet? thx! @saydams

10. Hello!! I love this blog, where I find fics to read!! A few days ago, I asked someone to find me a fic, but I'm here again because I remembered med and another fic that I loved reading, but currently can't find.
The things I remember: Wangxian has an spiritual connection, which is why the golden core transfer does not occur (and it is qing who informs Wei Ying of the connection, as Madam Yu knew and gave tea to undo the connection but it did not work ) and if I'm not mistaken Yanli is the one who told Wei Ying that the spiritual connection no longer exists (which is obviously wrong)
If you can't find it, I ask you to recommend something similar.
Thank you ❤💛🖤 @sweettiebah

11. Hi, im looking for a fic where when Wei Wuxian was dead others tried to flirt with Lan Wangji. I remember one of the scenes where Shizui was walking to the jingshi and overherd someone (a cousin of Lan Jingyi?) trying to flirt with Lan Wangji. I think it was a 5+1 type of deal. No matter the way i word it, i cant find it. I`ve been looking on and off for months. @herebedragons02

Thats as much as i remember I hope it's enough to go on. If it helps any it was either a Jiang Cheng bashing fic or a Jiang Family bashing. / Hi i'm looking for a Jiang Cheng or Jiang Family Bashing fic (can't remember which it was) where Nie Huaisang gets severely injured by Jiang Cheng and Nie Mingjue almost declares war on the Jiang Sect. 14. Hi! For next fic finder, could you help me find a modern wangxian au with combination of arranged marriage, marriage of convenient (i think it is), and contract marriage. YZY arranged a marriage between WWX and LWJ for a bussiness cooperation. WWX agreed to that so he can get away from the Jiang (especially YZY) and to make his own carrier. Then LWJ and WWX make a contract to make the marriage last until 2 years and decided if they want to keep the marriage or not. I think LWJ playing his guqin and WWX is used to that and when 2 years almost up, WWX didnt want to get divorce. The fic is focused about them getting to know each other. I think thats all i can remember. I read that in 2021 so the detail is kinda patchy. If you dont know the fic at least a confirmation that im not the only one that ever read this. Thank you! @idontknowwhattowriteforusername
Hi, im #14. Unfortunately its not the fic that iam searching for. The one that iam serching for focused on wangxian, other characters barely appears. Even the jiangs only gets mentioned. Wwx didnt work for Jiang, i think he is graphic design freelancer? The agrement for divorce is between the two of them, their family didnt know about their agreement. They choose how long they stay together before divorce after they think that the project between their family is finished so their divorce wont effect the project. WWX even has a plan after their divorce to open his own office. If i remember corectly, WWX realize he didnt want to get divorced is a few days before the day of their divorce. Like he is in his room and thinking that after their divorce, he cant listening to LWJ playing his guqin and spend their days together and he didnt want that.
I really hope i didnt mix several fic together. Thank you!

16. Hi! 20. Hello! I’m looking for a fic where during the Sunshot Campaign, Wei Wuxian was able to tame the Xuanwu, resulting in victory. However, he wasn’t fully able to control its bloodlust so it was sequestered onto an island in Lotus Pier.
However, he leaves one day for a brief visit to Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli, JGS paid a child to visit the island and the child is killed. This causes WWX to go with the Xuanwu into the water surrounding the island and he disappears for many years.
Later on, Jin Ling ends up trying to prove himself by going into the forest surrounding this island (which has since filled with resentful energy). And finds that WWX has come back and the Xuanwu has been purified.

In which Jin Ling is terrified of spiders, Lan Jingyi is a mischievous chaos gremlin and Lan Sizhui comes to the rescue on a night hunt gone hilariously wrong.
Requested by a friend. 🖤🕷️🕸️
The frigid night air whipped through Jin Ling’s hair as he leapt from branch to branch in pursuit of a straggling corpse. This was his first night hunt in Gusu without his uncle nearby to supervise. The feeling was both terrifying and liberating but he also knew his uncle’s expectations of him were much higher.
He had to hunt something big.
He launched himself into the air with the toe of his boot, readied an arrow in his bow and released it into the corpse’s head. It stumbled forward and collapsed to the ground with a pathetic groan.
Jin Ling landed beside its limp body and kicked it in the side for good measure.
A sudden whirlwind of white and sky blue descended from above along with the silver glint of a sword. The sword pierced through the corpse’s neck as its wielder landed gracefully beside Jin Ling.
Jin Ling clenched his fists and stomped one foot into the dirt. “Lan Jingyi, will you quit it already?!”
The young Lan disciple next to him wiped the blade of his sword and smirked, tossing his long black bangs to the side. “Why would I quit when it makes you so mad?”
“It was already dead!”
“It twitched.”
Jin Ling grumbled and crossed his arms over his chest. “Why are you even following me around? Can’t find your own prey or what?”
“You don’t know? I’ve been asked to keep an eye on Young Mistress Jin.”
Jin Ling’s eyes narrowed at the nickname. “And who’s keeping an eye on you and your annoying mouth?”
Lan Jingyi sheathed his sword and placed his hands on his hips with a triumphant grin. “No one! So you’re just gonna have to deal with it.”
A strange breeze wove between them, directing their gaze to a darker section of the forest heavy with mist.
Seeing this, Lan Jingyi really did shut his mouth as the air around them turned glacial and sinister. Jin Ling took a step forward and squinted into the rapidly forming fog. “Corpses?”
Lan Jingyi shook his head. “I don’t think so. They would’ve attacked us by now. This mist, though…” He stepped forward with Jin Ling and outstretched his hand toward the growing cloud. “It feels natural but intentional. Like it’s camouflaging something.”
Jin Ling’s brows narrowed and a mischievous grin tugged at the corners of his mouth. “Then what are we standing here for? Let’s go see!”
In a blur of yellow robes and blind enthusiasm, Jin Ling flew into the mist as fast as he’d spoken. Lan Jingyi tensed and called, “Hey, wait!” as he reluctantly chased after him.
Though it was hard to see through the mist, a flash of yellow pierced his murky sight. He instinctively reached out, grabbed and pulled what he thought was Jin Ling’s clothes but when he yanked his hand back, a pained cry escaped from the young Jin disciple. Lan Jingyi looked down to see that he’d grabbed his hair instead.
Before he could let go and apologize, Jin Ling twirled around and thwacked him upside the ribs with his sheathed sword. Lan Jingyi wailed pitifully and buckled over. He held his side and hissed in pain. “The hell was that for?!”
Jin Ling shoved his peeved face through the mist and glared down at him. “What do you mean what was it for?! You almost ripped my hair out, idiot!”
Lan Jingyi whined and rubbed his sore ribs. “You really do have the temper of a young mistress.”
“Shut up!”
“Point proven.”
Just when Jin Ling was about to hit him again, a curious skittering noise came from the towering trees above them. Lan Jingyi winced as he rose to his feet. “Shit… I knew it.”
Jin Ling gave him a look of confusion and annoyance, still bitter about having his hair yanked like a horse with no reigns. He worked on fixing his loosened ponytail and asked, “Knew what?”
“This place, this fog—I knew it seemed familiar. There’s tales about mist covered nests deep in Gusu’s woods that belong to giant man-eating spiders.”
Jin Ling froze at the mention of spiders. Though he kept this fact to himself, he hated spiders and the thought of a gargantuan blood-thirsty spider speeding towards him on its abnormally large, spindly legs made his skin crawl. “I’ve… I’ve never heard of such a thing. Ridiculous! Probably just a lame rumor meant to scare kids and keep them out of the woods.”
“Maybe,” Lan Jingyi shrugged, “But I’m pretty sure I’ve heard the old man talking about it with HanGuang-Jun back at the Cloud Recesses.”
Jin Ling swallowed at the thought of Lan Qiren and Hanguang-Jun seriously discussing something like this. “Whatever,” he dismissed. “I see no webs and no spiders, so I’m going to go check out that noise and catch something. Stay here and keep scaring yourself with pointless stories if you wanna be a baby.”
Jin Ling did his best to hide his anxiety and whipped around before jumping up into the trees. Lan Jingyi scowled and scrambled after him. “Young Mistress Jin!” he shouted, hoping to anger him enough that he’d come back. However, Jin Ling ignored him and pressed on.
Irritated, Lan Jingyi closely followed the sound of rustling leaves and groaning wood as Jin Ling pounced from branch to branch above him. Finally, he heard a sudden ‘oof!’ as the noises in the trees stopped.
“Jin Ling?” Lan Jingyi called, unable to see anything through the dense fog.
“Wha… what is this?!” Jin Ling said, his tone strained and full of confusion.
Lan Jingyi heard the small twinge of panic in the other’s voice and followed it to a modest clearing where the mist was significantly thinner. He waved away the remaining milky haze until he was greeted by a sight so comically bewildering that he blinked several times to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating.
In front of him was a giant spiderweb woven between the trunks of two strong trees and caught in the center was a struggling Jin Ling with all four limbs splayed like a flying squirrel hovering a mere four feet off the ground.
Lan Jingyi stared blankly for a moment before erupting with laughter. The vision before him was so hilariously satisfying that he almost fell over. Jin Ling’s rage was bubbling up again but he opted to ignore Lan Jingyi’s cackles and focused on trying to tear his hands and legs free. He punched and kicked and rocked forward but the web was surprisingly strong, as though it was specifically woven to catch human prey.
“This is too good, it’s too good!” Lan Jingyi chanted, practically rolling on the ground with wild amusement.
“Will you shut up already?” Jin Ling snapped. “I can’t focus with all your screeching!”
Lan Jingyi tried to catch his breath in between laughs. “If you didn’t storm off like a moody mistress, you wouldn’t have to focus on this.”
Jin Ling tried to lunge forward but it was no use. The web had him locked in place from head to toe. He exhaled and stopped trying for a moment. “Then how about you make yourself useful for once and get me out of here?”
Lan Jingyi pretended to contemplate while an impish idea surfaced in his mind. I’ll just leave him here for a bit to scare him, then come back to help, he thought. He choked back his laughter and composed himself before staring up at Jin Ling with a feigned serious expression.
“No way,” Lan Jingyi barked, his tone sharp but still laced with amusement. “It’s your own fault for barging into this situation, so get out of there yourself!”
Jin Ling fumed and flailed as much as his trapped limbs would allow. “Seriously?! If my uncle finds out you left me here, he’ll… h-he’ll…!”
Laughter bubbled out of Lan Jingyi. “He’ll what? Scold you for getting caught instead of doing the catching? He’d probably leave you here too!”
Jin Ling’s face burned with anger and embarrassment. “Then get me down so we can finish the hunt and actually catch something!”
Lan Jingyi crossed his arms and puffed out his chest like a cocky pigeon. “Nope. Think of this as a cultivation trial. If you can free yourself from that web before the spider comes back, you’ll be ready to face the deepest, darkest depths of Gusu’s wilderness.”
This was the second time he’d mentioned the spider. Jin Ling’s face paled at the thought of whatever mammoth eight-legged beast owned the web he was trapped in. He could barely handle normal sized spiders, though he’d never dream of revealing his fear to Lan Jingyi.
While Jin Ling manically tore through hypothetical scenarios and outcomes if the spider showed up, Lan Jingyi turned around and started walking away. “H-Hey!” Jin Ling shouted. “Where are you going?!”
“Hunting!” Lan Jingyi called back before disappearing into the trees.
Jin Ling huffed with frustration and wiggled around. “What a loser.”
He quickly realized that struggling only made the web’s grip on him stronger since the more he flailed, the more heavy strands of sticky silk wound themselves around his wrists and ankles. Burning the web away was out of the question since he couldn’t reach his talismans and calling his uncle for help was far too embarrassing.
He wouldn’t be surprised if his uncle really did just leave him there like Lan Jingyi predicted. Regardless, he couldn’t reach his flares either.
Jin Ling furrowed his brow and pouted angrily as he brainstormed. “I can’t believe I’m asking myself this,” he mumbled, “but what would Wei Wuxian do?”
Suddenly, he had a flashback to the last time Wei Wuxian ‘handled’ a difficult situation: by running around like a chicken with no head and shrieking for HanGuang-Jun to come save him.
“Useless!” he spat.
He didn’t know how Wei Wuxian could be so shameless, so ridiculous. The last thing he needed right now was another Lan showing up and gloating at his predicament.
Just then, a rustling noise came from the bushes to his right. He froze, remembering the spider but whatever was in the bushes was far too small to create such a large web. Jin Ling watched carefully as the fluffy head of a well-groomed dog popped out of the leaves accompanied by the gentle chime of a round bell around its collar.
“Fairy!” Jin Ling exclaimed. “Where have you been?! Quick, go get help from—“
Jin Ling grew quiet as more rustling came from the bushes and a tall, handsome boy dressed in the white robes of the Lan sect stepped out. He brushed a generous amount of twigs and leaves out of his raven bangs that had accumulated from following Fairy through the forest.
Jin Ling’s face blanched. “…Lan Sizhui…?!”
Lan Sizhui looked up at him with a pair of wide, doe-like eyes that sparkled quite brilliantly in the moonlight. His mouth fell open at the sight of Jin Ling in the web, not entirely sure how to respond to the situation.
“Young Master Jin! There you are,” said Lan Sizhui, a wave of relief in his pleasant voice. “Are you alright?”
Jin Ling glowered at him and turned up his nose. “Tch. How about you ask your annoying Lan twin? He’s the one who left me here!”
Lan Sizhui blinked. “Lan Jingyi…?” He sighed and walked closer to Jin Ling, Fairy trotting triumphantly at his side as though she’d brought her master his knight in shining armor.
Lan Sizhui studied both the web and Jin Ling for a moment and suppressed a chuckle. He looked up at him with a sympathetic smile. “You’re stuck?”
Jin Ling turned beet red and snapped, “I’m not!!!” I-I’m just thinking…!”
Lan Sizhui smiled again, amused by his unwavering pride and reached for a small hunting knife that was strapped to his upper thigh. While Jin Ling was trying his best not to look at him, Lan Sizhui began carefully cutting away the web around his wrists.
Jin Ling’s face was burning with humiliation. Out of all the people Fairy could’ve brought, it just had to be Lan Sizhui—the last person he’d ever want to see him like this. Not to mention, Lan Sizhui was almost a carbon copy of HanGuang-Jun, albeit much more talkative and expressive. Jin Ling mentally prepared himself for receiving a long-winded, boring lecture once he was saved.
After a few minutes of meticulously sawing through the web, Jin Ling’s right hand was freed. He thought about grabbing one of his talismans and burning the rest of the web but his thoughts were instantly scrambled by the tender way Lan Sizhui held his hand to help him balance.
Shocked speechless, he ripped his hand away and immediately fell forward at an awkward angle, crashing directly into Lan Sizhui’s shoulder. He went from holding his hand to hooking his one free arm around Lan Sizhui’s neck and he couldn’t decide which of the two positions were more embarrassing.
His paranoia told him that Lan Jingyi was hiding somewhere in the bushes watching, snickering and memorizing every detail for blackmail purposes. Jin Ling sneered at the thought.
He stared down at Fairy who was sitting obediently in front of the web, wagging her tail and watching with keen interest as Lan Sizhui worked on freeing Jin Ling’s other wrist. However, he wasn’t prepared for the offset of balance that came with both of his hands being freed. For a moment, he felt as if he was actually going to fall and all of his anger melted into a potent jolt of fear.
Jin Ling yelped as he quickly clasped his other hand around Lan Sizhui’s neck and trembled with nerves. “Wah—! Don’t drop me!”
Lan Sizhui blushed from seeing Jin Ling so worried. The way he was hugging his neck made his cheeks flush a few shades darker. He gently but cautiously patted Jin Ling on the back in an attempt to reassure him. “I won’t drop you. I’m not Lan Jingyi, you know.”
Jin Ling grumbled at the mention and plopped his chin onto Lan Sizhui’s shoulder, glaring into the distance like a perturbed cat.
“I’m doing your ankles next,” Lan Sizhui warned. “You can use my back for support, okay?”
Just as Jin Ling was about to protest, Lan Sizhui crouched down. Jin Ling’s torso propelled forward and he hastily propped himself up with his forearms, using Lan Sizhui’s back as a platform. If the positions before were embarrassing, this was simply mortifying. His eyes darted around his eerily quiet surroundings as he tried to think about anything other than Lan Sizhui’s selfless chivalry, the way his lean muscles moved beneath Jin Ling’s body as he cut the web, and the warm scent of orange blossom and cedar wood clinging to Lan Sizhui’s clothes.
But the only unrelated thought that came to mind was the spider. Suddenly, Jin Ling wished he’d kept thinking about Lan Sizhui and stealthily inhaled the clean scent of the Lan boy’s robes for comfort.
“Um… Sizhui?”
Hearing Jin Ling say his name without ‘Lan’ was a rare occurrence and usually meant he had something serious to say. Lan Sizhui glanced to his side in acknowledgment. “Yes, Young Master Jin?”
Jin Ling swallowed. “Are there really giant spiders in Gusu’s forests? And do they really eat people?”
Lan Sizhui smiled. “Lan Jingyi’s been telling his horror stories, I assume?”
Jin Ling deflated onto Lan Sizhui’s back with an exasperated huff. “So he lied to me.”
“Not entirely,” Lan Sizhui revealed. “There’s giant spiders in the forest but they rarely eat people since nobody ever ventures that far in. I’m actually surprised you managed to find a web so close to the Cloud Recesses.”
Jin Ling furrowed his brow. “I really have rotten luck, then.”
Lan Sizhui laughed and shook his head, his hands still working dexterously at the webs around Jin Ling’s ankles. “For this situation, I’d say you lucked out. Take this web, for example—it’s still sticky enough to catch things but it’s fairly old and probably abandoned. Even if I’d showed up later than I did, the worst that could’ve happened is you being stuck here for a bit longer.”
Jin Ling slapped a fist down onto the small of Lan Sizhui’s back, causing the taller boy to rock forward from the shock. “That’s still a ‘what if’ scenario! I swear I’m gonna sic Fairy on Lan Jingyi the moment I see him next!” His voice fell quiet as he crossed his arms and looked off to the side. “I really could’ve died out here.”
A caring softness spread across Lan Sizhui’s face and his voice came in a barely audible whisper. “I’d never let that happen.”
“Huh?”
“Hm?” Lan Sizhui replied, pretending as if he didn’t say anything. “Ah, nothing.”
Finally, both of Jin Ling’s ankles were freed and he scrambled up Lan Sizhui’s back until his arms were hooked around his neck again. Lan Sizhui held him at the waist and carefully lowered him to the ground, letting him tap the toe of his boot on the dirt to make sure it was safe before planting his feet.
Jin Ling slumped his shoulders and sighed with relief, glad to be out of the web. Lan Sizhui expected him to go back to his fiery, combative self but to his surprise, Jin Ling frowned up at him with a bashful, apologetic expression.
“I… t-thank you for helping me.”
The words seemed incredibly difficult for him to say but they were earnest. He could tell by the way Jin Ling’s amber eyes burned with gratitude like a storm of autumn foliage. The sight was rather breathtaking, though he didn’t dare admit this out loud. Lan Sizhui blinked in disbelief before settling into a friendly smile. “Of course. I’m just glad you’re okay.”
Jin Ling blushed again and quickly looked at the ground, the sincerity of Lan Sizhui’s words setting his nerves alight.
“Oh,” Lan Sizhui said, eyes trained on Jin Ling’s wrists. “Let me see your hands.”
Jin Ling snapped his head back up. “H-Huh? Why?” Even as he asked the question, he subconsciously lifted his hands as if Lan Sizhui’s melodic voice possessed him to do so.
“The webs,” Lan Sizhui said. When he smiled, his eyes smiled too and Jin Ling paused to study the way his irises shifted from indigo grey to deep azure to cold amethyst in the moonlight—so strikingly opposite to Jin Ling’s wildfire gaze. He couldn’t look away even if he tried.
With his hands hovering in the air, Lan Sizhui began untangling the remainder of the webs from Jin Ling’s wrists and discarded the thick silk strands onto the ground.
Fairy immediately took notice of this and trotted over to Jin Ling’s ankles. She bit and gnawed at the webs on his boots and ripped them away quite efficiently. Lan Sizhui grinned at her efforts. “Good girl! Your master is lucky to have you.”
Normally, Jin Ling would’ve retaliated by now but Lan Sizhui glanced back up at him only to find he was frozen in place with a look of bewilderment as if he’d realized something important and didn’t know how to process it.
Lan Sizhui’s fingers lingered on his wrists for a moment. He frowned and tilted his head. “Young Master Jin? Are you feeling alright?”
Jin Ling finally looked down at where Lan Sizhui’s slender fingers grazed his skin and blushed so furiously he thought his head might explode. He felt dizzy and warm and unable to function. When Lan Sizhui suddenly reached up to brush a strand of spider’s silk from his hair, his chest buzzed like a hive of bees.
“Sorry,” Lan Sizhui said sheepishly. “I just noticed it now.”
For whatever reason, a million thoughts were running through Jin Ling’s mind that he would’ve slapped himself for earlier. Maybe it was the air or the time of night or some strange delirium from being trapped in the web—he couldn’t be sure. He just knew that right now, in this moment, he really liked Lan Sizhui.
He liked his tranquil eyes and gentle smiles. He liked the way his soft raven bangs swept over his headband and tempted his fingers to brush them to the side. He liked that he had to look up at him because of their height difference. He liked how his quiet, soothing voice washed over him in clement waves.
But most of all, he liked the way he touched him. Cautious but daring, soft yet protective. Jin Ling realized that from the moment Lan Sizhui showed up, he felt safe regardless of how many fits he threw.
“Sizhui,” Jin Ling said, trying his best to regain himself. “Can we…”
There was a significant pause between them but Lan Sizhui waited, afraid he might scare Jin Ling into saying ‘never mind’ if he interrupted. He didn’t even know what he expected him to say but he felt anxious with anticipation.
“Can we stay together? For the rest of the hunt?” Jin Ling immediately tore his gaze away from Lan Sizhui, shocked at how such simple words could be so humiliating to say.
Lan Sizhui’s lips parted and his eyes glistened with surprise. He lightly squeezed Jin Ling’s wrists and beamed at the request. “Of course.”
Jin Ling looked back at him with a shining expression, drinking up every detail of Lan Sizhui’s smiling face. When Lan Sizhui released his wrists, he suddenly felt cold so he sidled up beside him as close as he could without causing suspicion.
Their shoulders brushed together as they left the now mangled web and walked back into the forest, Fairy trotting happily behind.
“I’m still gonna kill Lan Jingyi,” Jin Ling muttered.
“Let’s just work on killing corpses for now,” said Lan Sizhui, laughing nervously.
“I’ll turn him into a corpse first, then!”
Lan Sizhui sighed. Senior Wei, what have you been teaching my a-Ling?

Hello! If it's ok, can I ask for some headcanons about Juniors when they accidentally touch a headband (head ribbon?? how is it called?) Of their crush from a Lan sect? Btw, I looooove this blog (and you)! And I really like the way you edit your texts, idk just your emphasis of this little emotional parts in cursive and this ?indent? (once again Idk what it's called, English isn't my first language, I'm sorry) adds to the atmosphere so much, in my opinion. Anyway, love you 💗
hi friend!
ahh, thank you for your all compliments! making me feel all the fluffiness on the inside! and i’m so glad that you’ve taken a liking to the text editing. :) i’ve been working around and playing with that and finally just settled on the format now. thank you so much!
and such a cute request for our lovely Lan Juniors, i would love to write it for you!
cheers~

Lan Sizhui
“it’s-”
you barely have time to finish your sentence when Sizhui spins around, his hand latching onto his forehead ribbon that was falling off
you both stare at each other with wide eyes
you didn’t mean to catch onto the end of the ribbon like you did, but it had fallen
“it-it was falling, i didn’t mean to-” you try to explain and watch as Sizhui’s flicker between your hand that’s holding on the end of his forehead ribbon and his own end
you widen your eyes at the insinuation,
you release your end, hand drawing back as if burned
“i’m so so so so sorry, Sizhui, I’m really sorry” you apologize profusely because it was inappropriate and wrong and it was a responsibility-
“you’re responsible,”
you widen your eyes and look up to him, confused, scared
“what?” you breathe out, because you both don’t know each other really well and also what? how were you supposed to be responsible for him???-
“h-how can i? why, i mean, what?” you ask in complete shock and Sizhui holds his forehead ribbon in his hand, steps close to you
you move back as he moves close, until your back suddenly hits the tree trunk that you didn’t see before
“you’re responsible now,” Sizhui tells you, when you can’t move back any more
you blink at him, wondering what the fate you had just bought to yourself
Lan Jingyi
“ah, ”
Jingyi looks back at the sound of your voice, eyes widening at your hand on his personal box
“y/n! that’s my-”
you, being the curious friend that you are, had already taken out the folded forehead ribbon without ask, taking in the sight of it in your hand
it was your first time at the Lan Gusu Sect, and your sect did not share the same traditions that they upheld
so you didn’t know,
“wow, this design is so beautiful,” you note, finger gently running over the cool metal of the carved out clouds
before you can get a better look, the forehead ribbon is ripped from your hands
you look up immediately at Lan Jingyi, his face a tomato red, his eyes a darker shade than the carefree easy spirit that had welcomed you and your sect at your stay here only a few hours ago,
“Jingyi,” you call to him, but he has already stomped away
he’s more than embarrassed and he can’t bring it in himself to tell you what the meaning of your touch holds in his clan
because would you dare to be the first?
be the only one for him?

Spilled Pearls
- Chapter 14 - ao3 -
If Lan Qiren hadn’t had any idea on what to do with Cangse Sanren to begin with, he had even less of an idea of what to do when he received a letter from his sworn brother which, after some deciphering of the small talk and insincerely meant pleasantries that could just as easily be read as implicit threats, seemed to boil down to so I hear you have a lover now? and also come to the Nightless City at once.
I do not have a lover, Lan Qiren wrote back crossly. You should send whatever spies you have packing because they are clearly completely useless to you. Also, I have classes that I have no intention of missing. If you want company, recall that you have a wife.
That won him a few weeks of blissful silence, possibly due to Wen Ruohan’s shock but more likely due to Lan Qiren having spitefully chosen to send his reply by usual post rather than by special post, which was more expensive and also generally reserved for important sect matters and not for obvious fishing attempts for gossip about the personal lives of juniors.
Which Wen Ruohan should be above, anyway. What did it matter to him?
The response, not long after that, went something along the lines of so what you’re saying is that you haven’t won the immortal mountain’s disciple yet? if you come to Qishan, I can advise you and that irritated Lan Qiren most of all, because right up until that point he hadn’t known that Cangse Sanren was a disciple of the famous Baoshan Sanren, the best-known immortal still in contact with the mortal world.
Mostly because Cangse Sanren hadn’t ever bothered to introduce herself.
It bothered him, a little. More than a little. She knew how much he valued people acting according to the rules; even if she didn’t care for them, shouldn’t she respect his inclination?
(It turned out that she didn’t introduce herself because she didn’t have a proper name, just the title that everyone used for her. Baoshan Sanren let everyone keep the name they came to the mountain with, but Cangse Sanren had come too young for any name at all, and so she’d never gotten one in all the suspiciously unspecified years she had spent on the timeless mountain. It was a pretty good reason not to introduce yourself, as such things went, and it also belatedly explained why she took offense to people calling anyone old.)
I am not trying to win anyone, he wrote back to Wen Ruohan. And even if I was, which I am not, I would still have classes and am not currently at liberty to travel. Has there been some sort of terrible tragedy such that your Wen sect is so desperate for additional people in the Nightless City?
You are not just any person but my sworn brother, Wen Ruohan responded. Am I not entitled to see you? Maybe I want to see this beard you’re reputedly growing.
Lan Qiren rolled his eyes and threw the letter into the box he was keeping all the others. He was trying to grow a beard, as it happened, though being a newly-turned eighteen it was a slow and frustrating process. He wasn’t entirely sure he liked the itchy feeling of it growing, either, but stroking his chin as if in thought was nearly as cathartic as waving his hands, only more socially acceptable; he liked that part very much.
He’d always had a tendency towards strange motions – moving his hands or arms, tapping on things, or rocking back and forth when he was especially distressed – but his brother had always hated it especially, always quoting Do not move arbitrarily at him even though he knew that that wasn’t the fundamental meaning of that rule. That wouldn’t have been so much of an issue, except most other people seemed to agree with him, citing the importance of acting in a dignified and restrained manner, limiting unnecessary movement and remaining still and calm as a placid pool of water no matter what the circumstance.
The beard was an acceptable compromise. Given how common beards were in the sect, it would be hard to criticize Lan Qiren without accidentally insulting an elder – and it felt so good to be able to move freely, the action serving as an aid for emotional regulation that he desperately needed.
Of course, Cangse Sanren thought it was ugly.
Lan Qiren didn’t agree, but he also didn’t think it was any of her business what he did with his face. Even if it was ugly, so what? He wasn’t particularly egotistical.
Accordingly, he thanked her stiffly for her opinion and then proceeded to ignore it.
Apparently, that didn’t sit well with her, a fact Lan Qiren only discovered when he woke up one day, groggy and unclear as to what had happened the night before, to find himself shaven clean and Cangse Sanren beaming at him from within his own room, to which he had never invited her.
He did not react well.
Stories of your shouting have reached even Qishan, Wen Ruohan’s next letter said. Was what your little lover did really so bad? I hadn’t known you were so sensitive. It’s not as if it won’t grow back.
This is your fault, Lan Qiren wrote back, irrational and upset, his calligraphy rough from the way his hand shook – though whether in rage or something else he couldn’t quite tell. I don’t want to hear from you.
Truly his reaction had been out of proportion with Cangse Sanren’s offense. Shaving a beard, especially a half-grown thing like that, was little more than a childish prank, even if it had taken him several months to get as far as he had; in the end, it was really only a blow to his vanity, and perhaps the loss of a convenient emotional crutch.
And yet, when he’d woken up and seen her there where she wasn’t welcome – when he’d realized that he couldn’t remember the evening before, just the way he couldn’t remember what had happened in the Nightless City that day, waking up to Wen Ruohan smiling at him and an oath he didn’t know nor want – when he’d tasted the sour taste of day-old liquor on his tongue –
He’d panicked.
She’d realized it, he thought in retrospect; the ever-present smile had slowly dripped off her mouth as he stared at her blankly for the first few moments, frozen, and had morphed into an expression of shock when he had broken through his paralysis to start screaming at her to go, get out, leave – he’d even picked up some of his own things to throw at her, just to make her leave faster.
He continued smashing his things after she’d gone, unthinking in his frenzy and unsure why he was so upset, and in the end when clarity had returned and he realized what he’d done he’d been so ashamed that he’d grabbed his guqin and slunk away, retreating to the rooms where the Lan sect entered into seclusion. He couldn’t go into real seclusion with so little preparation, of course, but he was practiced enough at inedia that he could skip meals for a few days and not need to see the world for at least a week.
Part of the feeling of shame was that he didn’t know why he had reacted so badly. Wasn’t it normal for peers his age to play that sort of trick on each other? It hadn’t been meant as a real insult.
He had no right to feel so betrayed.
And yet, he did.
Cangse Sanren had visited later that day, her hand tapping lightly on the door bound by wards and her normally brash voice murmuring explanations and not-quite apologies – saying that she hadn’t realized what it had meant to him, that she wouldn’t have done it if she’d known, asking if he wouldn’t come out to talk to her about it and let her apologize properly.
He ignored her.
He ignored her the next day and the day after, too. His hands were unsteady when he tried to play calming songs for himself, his music tangled and knotted up like the feelings in his chest.
On the fourth day, she came and sat by his door in the evening, late and near to curfew.
“I didn’t know, you know,” she finally said after sitting there for nearly a shichen. “About what happened to you in the Nightless City.”
His hands froze over the guqin.
“Drinking liquor comes as easily to me as breathing,” she continued. “No one’s ever been able to play a trick on me because I got drunk – it’s everyone else who falls over in the end, not me. Maybe what why, when someone told me how badly your family handles its liquor, I thought only of how funny it would be…and not how it would feel, waking up and realizing that you didn’t know what happened. What someone could have done to you.” She was silent for a moment. “What I did do.”
Lan Qiren shut his eyes tightly.
Yes, he thought to himself. She was right. That was why he was so upset.
It wasn’t about the beard at all.
“An oath made when you didn’t know it doesn’t count, you know.”
He laughed harshly, the sound catching in his throat like thick mud. “It does,” he said, and his voice was hoarse from the lack of speech. “Of course it counts. It’s my honor, in the end…anyway, there’s no reason for me to lose my head over it. Sect Leader Wen’s powerful and influential; there are those who would cut off their right hands for a connection with him, much less an oath of brotherhood.”
He wasn’t even all that angry at Wen Ruohan for doing it, either, not really. There wasn’t much point – his few experiences with the other man so far showed that that was just what he was like, always taking instead of asking, and scheming was as innate to inter-sect politics as fighting. Might as well be angry at his grandfather for the ancestral weakness to liquor in the Lan lineage.
It had only been the shock of Cangse Sanren’s unexpected actions that had made it feel like a knife stabbed into his back, a scabbed-over wound suddenly ripped open again.
“You didn’t trust him,” Cangse Sanren pointed out. “You trusted me. And I scared you.”
Perhaps that was true.
“You’re still you, you know. Even while drunk.” She chuckled. “You talk more, care less what people think of you; you’re a little more willing to stand up for yourself, a little more bitter, a little less consciously kind. You told me all about music, something that went over my head, then went to sleep in just the right and proper way, albeit right on the floor. I had to wait until you were asleep to shave you.”
That was a relief to hear. Lan Qiren hated the idea of being so vulnerable.
Although – perhaps he wasn’t. According to Lao Nie, he’d apparently kneed Wen Ruohan in the balls that night for bothering him with nonsense or possibly for trying to leave before he finished explaining something, sometime either before or after their oath.
(After, he assumed. If it had been before, it seemed more likely that he would’ve ended up dead.)
“Anyway, I wouldn’t have done anything serious,” she added. “You wouldn’t have woken up married or anything.”
“It’s not you,” he assured her hastily, alarmed by the thought. “I didn’t mean to imply anything about your character, which I know is good; I know you wouldn’t have done anything like that. It’s only – you don’t always know what people think is enough, coming from the immortal mountain as you do. If someone really wanted to push the issue, or if you didn’t have the background you did, just you being in my room unattended might’ve served as an excuse. And then where would we be?”
She was silent for a while.
“You really don’t want to be married to me,” she finally said. “You’re not playing games or anything; you really don’t.”
Lan Qiren felt something lurch in his chest.
“No,” he said, painfully honest. “Did – did you?”
“Maybe a little,” she said, and Lan Qiren winced. The possibility hadn’t even occurred to him, not even when others had suggested it.
“I didn’t mean…”
“I know,” she said, and her voice was warm. “Don’t worry about me, Qiren; I’ll get over it soon enough. There’s no pain I won’t forget a day later, never learning anything, it’s just the way I am.”
He gnawed on his lower lip. “…can I ask why?”
“Why you, you mean?” He could hear her shrugging through the door, the fabric of her clothing rustling against the wall she was leaning against. “You care about things, deeply and truly. Rules, honor, the right path…I like the way you think, the way you care. You have a good heart and a good brain. Why not you?”
“I’m sorry,” he said, and felt rather a wretch over the whole thing. “I didn’t mean to…to…”
She laughed. “You didn’t lead me on, Qiren! You only ever treated me as a friend, and I was, I think. Maybe still am?”
“You are,” he said, and looked down as his guqin, then sighed, picking it up and going to the door. There was no point in pretending to be in seclusion now that the knot in his heart had loosened, and he was starting to get hungry. “Come on, let’s go. I feel a need to graze on the kitchen’s leftover vegetables, as if I were a wild rabbit.”
She beamed up at him, round face shining like the moon.
The next day, after he finished doing penance for missing classes without advance notice – two dozen strikes, but no more – Lan Qiren went down the mountain and purchased some tea said to have especially strong stimulant properties, and gave it to Cangse Sanren.
She blinked at it, then looked at him.
“If you brew this in the morning, you won’t be so tired all the time,” he told her, and shrugged. “Since we’re friends and all.”
He didn’t have that many friends – so few as to not even have recognized her as being one. He was determined to cherish them.
She smiled.
The next day after that, there was surprising news in the Cloud Recesses, the gossip reaching the classroom faster than the messenger sent there specifically for that purpose.
Wen Ruohan had come to pay a visit.

Restless Rewatch: The Untamed, Episode 01
(Masterpost) (Next Episode)
Tumblr media
Warning: This is **FULL **of spoilers, not just for this episode but for the entire series. If you haven’t finished all 50 episodes, please don’t read it!
Intro: 2020 continues to be much much too much while also being incredibly boring, and Im done with Shen Wei’s Lewks, so now I’m doing a deep meta dive into the Untamed. Let’s roll!
Prologue: The Battle of Mordor
The Demise of our Protagonist
Unlike some other shows I won’t name, The Untamed kills its suicidal queer protagonist immediately, rather than waiting four seasons, so we know what we're in for.
This is Wei Wuxian, who is about to yeet himself off of a cliff. He is having a bad day.
Tumblr media
Note: if mouth blood bothers you...C-Drama might not be your thing.
Reasons for mouth blood: a sampler
Tumblr media
Anyway...cliff time
Tumblr media
Note: if (fictional) suicide bothers you...C-Drama might not be your thing.
To be fair there are hardly any suicides in The Untamed. No more than ...five? As long as you don’t count the entire population of the Wen Corporate Headquarters in Yiling or those wall bandits in Qinghe or Madame Yu or all those Wens who supposedly threw themselves into the mud puddle or that Mo guy who broke his own neck. Plus watching Wei Wuxian’s cliff drop several more times from multiple angles. So, you know. Hardly Any Suicides.
This is Lan Wangji, who is about to have his first losing encounter with physics. He is having a bad day.
Tumblr media
In fact, if it is possible to have a worse day than the guy who is currently falling to his death, Lan Wangji is having that.
Tumblr media
This is Jiang Cheng, who is feeling extra stabby from this camera angle. He is having a bad day.
Tumblr media
Camera operator: why you gotta take it out on me?
(Much, much more after the cut!)
The Amulet Situation
This is the Stygian Tiger Amulet. Yes, by all means, (Netflix) subtitles, let's use a 12-dollar word, “Stygian,” that every English speaker who is not a Shelley/Byron shipper will have to look up. Let’s not use a normal word like "deathly" or "corrupt" or you know... "Yin" which is clearly what they are saying on screen.
Tumblr media
Why does this tiger amulet look like a chameleon crossed with a remora? Wei Wuxian can paint photorealistic bunnies on a flimsy lantern while sitting in a field having distracting teenage lust, but two months of meditating with super magic gets him a tiger that looks like a chameleon. And don’t try telling me this is a traditional-Chinese-art vibe because this jade tiger from frickin 1000 BCE is way more tigerish than Wei Wuxian’s attempt.
Tumblr media
Try harder next time, Wei Wuxian.
This is thousands of cultivators having a battle.  What do you mean, it looks like about 40-60 dudes?
Tumblr media
Any time someone in The Untamed refers to a number of people, it is like when you do your high school play and look off into the wings at nothing and say “Hark, A Ship Approaches!” and everyone’s parents nod indulgently.
Jin Clan Mountain Hunt:
Tumblr media
*viewership nods indulgently*
This is Captain Blowhard, over on the right, courtesy name Clan Leader Yao. His job is to talk smack about Wei Wuxian and stick up for whoever is the biggest asshole in any given scene.
Tumblr media
He represents mainstream cultivation-world values so here he is shanking one of his allies to take the deadly amulet of evilness.
The Present Day
Spilling All That Yiling Laozu Tea
Down at the Exposition Tea Shop, the Lan juniors are chilling and listening to Tea Dude tell the story of Yiling Laozu.
How did they get permission to take this field trip? “Principal Qiran, we want to go downtown to hang out with the local rabble and learn about your favorite person, Wei Wuxian.”
Tumblr media
Waiting in the wings is the man with a fan and a plan, Nie Huaisan(g), who is paying tall loot to get these stories told.
Tumblr media
...Why? Is Mo Xuanyu having tea here and listening? Or is Wei Wuxian being summoned back by hearing all this smack being talked about him? *Shrug.*
Gank Your Soul
Drunk flag guy out here talking about spirits. Wikipedia tells me that In one school of Daoist thought, a human being has a collection of physical souls (魄 pò) and ethereal souls (魂 hún). Drunk flag guy is saying “hún ” at the moment.
Tumblr media
The many types of souls don’t translate well into English, where spiritual vocabulary has always been shackled connected to Christian beliefs, and is too limited for this context. So when the subtitles have conversations like “Is it a soul eater? No, no, it’s a spirit taker!” just roll with it. (Speaking of hún, if you have any interest in linguistics, do yourself a favor and go read all the wonderful meta @hunxi-guilai)
Tumblr media
The spirit-carrying flag looks a lot like Raava and Vaatu from Korra which...probably doesn’t mean anything.
The Demise of our Trill Host
Suicide #2 happens about 8 minutes in.
Tumblr media
Mo Xuanyu is that hippie roommate with the annoying wind chimes and bead curtains and blood spatter.
He is super mad at his terrible family and also at Jin Guangyao, who sent him home to his terrible family. I wonder if Fan Man Nie Huaisang influenced Jiggy’s decision-making there. Mo Xuanyu’s choice to die for revenge might be excessive, given how easy it actually is to murder the Mo family.
Being Alive Is Fine I Guess As Long As I Get To Fuck WIth People
Wei Wuxian starts his new life by splashing a little water on his face, which instantly makes his hair go from this
Tumblr media
to this.
Tumblr media
He looks at his reflection and wishes he was dead, which--mood--but he gets over it as soon as he finds someone whose day he can fuck up.
Tumblr media
And he is ALL in on being crazy.
Tumblr media
OP wishes she had the Wei Wuxian kind of crazy instead of the kind she actually has.
Meanwhile, this is the sane Mo cousin:
Tumblr media
This asshole is wearing one of the best fabrics in the whole show, incidentally. Asshole.
My favorite bit of Wei-Mo craziness is when Wei Wuxian does a meaningless 360 all the way around this dude before ducking in the opposite direction, which is like when I make 4 right turns around a whole block to avoid making a single left across traffic.
Tumblr media
Perhaps I Do Miss One Thing In This Life
Wei Wuxian has pining thoughts about Lan Wangji, so he plays WangXian on a fucking blade of grass well enough for Sizhui to recognize it from his dad's guqin jams.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian is a better flautist than even Inspector Gadget BeatBoxing Flute Guy (Google it).
Our Many Many Spirit Lure Flags have Lured A Spirit, Oh Shit
Lan Clan has a Plan and Wei Wuxian is a Fan
Having one single lure flag stuck in Wen Ning’s torso caused spirits to basically eat him alive, so to catch one evil spirit, 6 disciples holding flags on the roof plus 8 more flags on the ground seems like a good amount. Wei Wuxian is like “yep, a single one of these will lure every spirit for five miles, carry on, younglings.”
Baxia Does the Heavy Lifting
Wei Wuxian is supposed to kill four people because of this curse situation, and in the course of the series they all die, and he kills exactly zero of them. The curse on Wei Wuxian’s arm should be called the scorekeeper curse.
Tumblr media
Baxia’s spirit pinballs around the Mo clan, rapidly killing three people on Mo Xuanyu’s list plus a couple extras for good measure.  Who's a good blade? Baxia is! Yess you are! Yes you are!
Tumblr media
This here is the exact point in the show where your friend, who has listened to you squee about The Untamed for three months and finally agreed to watch it with you, will say “what the fuck am I watching?” and try to get up off the couch. Tackle them!
Tumblr media
This also the point where we all realize that the prosthetic and practical effects in this show were probably not made by the people who made the clothing, because the quality is...variable. The white eyeballs are pretty good, but the glove of death is ridiculous.
Tumblr media
Camera operator: why you gotta take it out on me?
While Baxia goes to town on the Mo clan, the Lan Clan babies...watch? And tie up the various victims after they are already goners.
Tumblr media
Narrator: Her son is dead.
Meanwhile,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian, you motherfucker. You’ve been alive for like 7 hours and you’re already building a new zombie army. No wonder you don’t want them to call Lan Wangji.
Hanguang-Jun Cut It Up One Time
Lan Wangji shows up and very slowly kicks zombie ass with his guqin. If you are used to Hong Kong action speeds, you will find The Untamed very peaceful.
Tumblr media
All of the baby Lans fan squee up at Lan Wangji like he's the cultivation world's David Bowie and...they're not wrong. Jesus Fuck, he’s charismatic.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji is soft boi when he discovers this murderous sword full of dead-bastard energy, because it reminds him of his true love.
Tumblr media
Like the talk about souls, the conversations about the nature of the murderous entity really don’t survive translation into English.
Servant: it’s a ghost!
WWX: it’s not a ghost, it’s a spirit
Babies: It’s a spirit
LWJ: it’s not a spirit, it’s a [...] ghost
Our Protagonist gets the FOH
Wei Wuxian is soft boi when he sees Lan Wangji, but not so soft that he considers actually, like, sticking around.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian is also clueless boi, noting Lan Wangji’s white clothing and thinking, as in the past, that he looks like he’s dressed in mourning. The term he uses is 戴孝, which google tells me means the type of outfit worn by Jiang Yanli after Wen Ning rips her husband’s heart out someone who is in mourning.
Tumblr media
Actually, Wei Wuxian, you dumbass, he is in actual mourning, actually, for you. Dumbass. He probably packed away all of his blue outer robes 16 years ago and only takes them out occasionally to reminisce about that nice date you had on your mountain of corpses.
On his way out the door Wei Wuxian manages to find a red ribbon for his beautiful hair, so things are looking up.
Tumblr media
Where to go next...hey I know, how about that one haunted mountain with the killer statue, you know, the one that all my executed friends and child came from? That’ll be fun and a great way to put the past behind me!
Episode 02 Restless Rewatch is here!

A Comprehensive List of Jin Ling’s Many Uncles
- an indulgent headcanon extrapolated from canon. It’s fiction but we’re still doing some media analysis.
- Jin Ling’s POV
- Canon-compliant
- accidentally deleted the original post, so reposting again
Mo Xuanyu: crazy queer uncle. You’re disgusted and confused by him and you also want to protect him. He bows too low to you.
Wei Wuxian: that other crazy queer uncle. Life coach. Believes wholeheartedly in learning via Direct Experiences. Will be disappointed in you to hear you didn’t get into a fight in boarding school. Somehow imparting a lesson on how to be a good person while stealing peaches with you at midnight. You’re sure enough of his love that you know you’re not gonna die when he tosses you head first into a hoard of angry ghosts.
Jiang Cheng: crazy angry uncle. Dad. High expectations. Really wants you to do well in swordsmanship. Got you a tutor to teach you how to shoot when you’ve turned out to obviously be better at that. Loud murder thunder on the outside, soft loving rain platter on the side. You’re sure enough of his love that you can scream back just as loudly when you two argue about what future path to take.
Jin Guangyao: crazy evil uncle. Mom. No expenses spared since you obviously deserve the best. Gave you a puppy you didn’t think you needed. Smells soft and nice and likes it very much when you hug him out of the blue. Tucks you behind him and plays the calm placater when your other uncle come storming in demanding how you’ve managed to blew up some horror death tomb the other day. You’re sure enough of his love that the possibility your lord-uncle may dispose his heir-nephew never even crossed your mind.
Lan Wangji: uncle by marriage. Apparently. You have no idea how to interact with him except to sit next to him in silent support as Wei Wuxian flounces around in dramatics around you at a bunch of low level resentful spirits. He gives you a silver nugget when he gets up.
Lan Xichen: uncle by... Not marriage apparently. For some reason you’re more scared of him than your Jiujiu. You tone down your voice by 50% when he’s around. Recommended some really good tutors to homeschool you. Always passes you an extra sweet when xiao-Shushu pretends he’s not looking. Taught you breathing exercises and the language of flowers. He’s always at your house and you don’t know how to feel about that.
Wen Ning: uncle by... friend osmosis? Idk you hang out with Lan Sizhui too much and apparently mi uncle es su uncle. You’re still very conflicted about him but he once rescued you and four other juniors from a lightning snake monster by running four miles really fast and carrying all of you in his arms. Apparently it was nothing. You are now marginally less conflicted. You suspect it’s the osmosis thing again.
Nie Mingjue: uncle by sworn brotherhood? Once gave you a really rough head pat when you were a baby. He had really large and warm hands. You don’t remember much else.
Nie Huaisang: uncle by sworn brotherhood’s brotherhood? You avoid him when you’re a child because you’re a bit vain and you don’t like his type of frivolity. He sends you presents on your birthday. You avoid him when you’re a young adult because if you ever see him you will probably rip his face off with your bare hands. He sends you inter-sect business letters.
