Title: Don't Worry - The Other Guy is Dead Now
Tumblr media
Okay so this turned out a bit.... darker? Than I originally intended? But Lan Wangji's cultivation is too high to just get a cold
So! Protecting his husband from a poisoned blade intended for the Yiling Laozu it is!
Don't worry, the person who did won't be trying it again. And Lan Wangji is gonna be fine.
Sorry! I'm sure you meant it to be cute and fluffy
My drawing pen said no. IT MUST BE ANGST.

TYPE: One-shot
JURISDICTION: It’s fluffy, your honor.
PAIRING: Lan Sizhui/Jin Ling
SIDE CHARACTERS: Lan Jingyi, Fairy
ELEMENTS: Humor, junior banter, Gusu setting, canon universe, crush/light romance, wholesome interaction, helpless Jin Ling in an embarrassing situation because we love to see it~
{ AO3 }
In which Jin Ling is terrified of spiders, Lan Jingyi is a mischievous chaos gremlin and Lan Sizhui comes to the rescue on a night hunt gone hilariously wrong.
Requested by a friend. 🖤🕷️🕸️
The frigid night air whipped through Jin Ling’s hair as he leapt from branch to branch in pursuit of a straggling corpse. This was his first night hunt in Gusu without his uncle nearby to supervise. The feeling was both terrifying and liberating but he also knew his uncle’s expectations of him were much higher.
He had to hunt something big.
He launched himself into the air with the toe of his boot, readied an arrow in his bow and released it into the corpse’s head. It stumbled forward and collapsed to the ground with a pathetic groan.
Jin Ling landed beside its limp body and kicked it in the side for good measure.
A sudden whirlwind of white and sky blue descended from above along with the silver glint of a sword. The sword pierced through the corpse’s neck as its wielder landed gracefully beside Jin Ling.
Jin Ling clenched his fists and stomped one foot into the dirt. “Lan Jingyi, will you quit it already?!”
The young Lan disciple next to him wiped the blade of his sword and smirked, tossing his long black bangs to the side. “Why would I quit when it makes you so mad?”
“It was already dead!”
“It twitched.”
Jin Ling grumbled and crossed his arms over his chest. “Why are you even following me around? Can’t find your own prey or what?”
“You don’t know? I’ve been asked to keep an eye on Young Mistress Jin.”
Jin Ling’s eyes narrowed at the nickname. “And who’s keeping an eye on you and your annoying mouth?”
Lan Jingyi sheathed his sword and placed his hands on his hips with a triumphant grin. “No one! So you’re just gonna have to deal with it.”
A strange breeze wove between them, directing their gaze to a darker section of the forest heavy with mist.
Seeing this, Lan Jingyi really did shut his mouth as the air around them turned glacial and sinister. Jin Ling took a step forward and squinted into the rapidly forming fog. “Corpses?”
Lan Jingyi shook his head. “I don’t think so. They would’ve attacked us by now. This mist, though…” He stepped forward with Jin Ling and outstretched his hand toward the growing cloud. “It feels natural but intentional. Like it’s camouflaging something.”
Jin Ling’s brows narrowed and a mischievous grin tugged at the corners of his mouth. “Then what are we standing here for? Let’s go see!”
In a blur of yellow robes and blind enthusiasm, Jin Ling flew into the mist as fast as he’d spoken. Lan Jingyi tensed and called, “Hey, wait!” as he reluctantly chased after him.
Though it was hard to see through the mist, a flash of yellow pierced his murky sight. He instinctively reached out, grabbed and pulled what he thought was Jin Ling’s clothes but when he yanked his hand back, a pained cry escaped from the young Jin disciple. Lan Jingyi looked down to see that he’d grabbed his hair instead.
Before he could let go and apologize, Jin Ling twirled around and thwacked him upside the ribs with his sheathed sword. Lan Jingyi wailed pitifully and buckled over. He held his side and hissed in pain. “The hell was that for?!”
Jin Ling shoved his peeved face through the mist and glared down at him. “What do you mean what was it for?! You almost ripped my hair out, idiot!”
Lan Jingyi whined and rubbed his sore ribs. “You really do have the temper of a young mistress.”
“Shut up!”
“Point proven.”
Just when Jin Ling was about to hit him again, a curious skittering noise came from the towering trees above them. Lan Jingyi winced as he rose to his feet. “Shit… I knew it.”
Jin Ling gave him a look of confusion and annoyance, still bitter about having his hair yanked like a horse with no reigns. He worked on fixing his loosened ponytail and asked, “Knew what?”
“This place, this fog—I knew it seemed familiar. There’s tales about mist covered nests deep in Gusu’s woods that belong to giant man-eating spiders.”
Jin Ling froze at the mention of spiders. Though he kept this fact to himself, he hated spiders and the thought of a gargantuan blood-thirsty spider speeding towards him on its abnormally large, spindly legs made his skin crawl. “I’ve… I’ve never heard of such a thing. Ridiculous! Probably just a lame rumor meant to scare kids and keep them out of the woods.”
“Maybe,” Lan Jingyi shrugged, “But I’m pretty sure I’ve heard the old man talking about it with HanGuang-Jun back at the Cloud Recesses.”
Jin Ling swallowed at the thought of Lan Qiren and Hanguang-Jun seriously discussing something like this. “Whatever,” he dismissed. “I see no webs and no spiders, so I’m going to go check out that noise and catch something. Stay here and keep scaring yourself with pointless stories if you wanna be a baby.”
Jin Ling did his best to hide his anxiety and whipped around before jumping up into the trees. Lan Jingyi scowled and scrambled after him. “Young Mistress Jin!” he shouted, hoping to anger him enough that he’d come back. However, Jin Ling ignored him and pressed on.
Irritated, Lan Jingyi closely followed the sound of rustling leaves and groaning wood as Jin Ling pounced from branch to branch above him. Finally, he heard a sudden ‘oof!’ as the noises in the trees stopped.
“Jin Ling?” Lan Jingyi called, unable to see anything through the dense fog.
“Wha… what is this?!” Jin Ling said, his tone strained and full of confusion.
Lan Jingyi heard the small twinge of panic in the other’s voice and followed it to a modest clearing where the mist was significantly thinner. He waved away the remaining milky haze until he was greeted by a sight so comically bewildering that he blinked several times to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating.
In front of him was a giant spiderweb woven between the trunks of two strong trees and caught in the center was a struggling Jin Ling with all four limbs splayed like a flying squirrel hovering a mere four feet off the ground.
Lan Jingyi stared blankly for a moment before erupting with laughter. The vision before him was so hilariously satisfying that he almost fell over. Jin Ling’s rage was bubbling up again but he opted to ignore Lan Jingyi’s cackles and focused on trying to tear his hands and legs free. He punched and kicked and rocked forward but the web was surprisingly strong, as though it was specifically woven to catch human prey.
“This is too good, it’s too good!” Lan Jingyi chanted, practically rolling on the ground with wild amusement.
“Will you shut up already?” Jin Ling snapped. “I can’t focus with all your screeching!”
Lan Jingyi tried to catch his breath in between laughs. “If you didn’t storm off like a moody mistress, you wouldn’t have to focus on this.”
Jin Ling tried to lunge forward but it was no use. The web had him locked in place from head to toe. He exhaled and stopped trying for a moment. “Then how about you make yourself useful for once and get me out of here?”
Lan Jingyi pretended to contemplate while an impish idea surfaced in his mind. I’ll just leave him here for a bit to scare him, then come back to help, he thought. He choked back his laughter and composed himself before staring up at Jin Ling with a feigned serious expression.
“No way,” Lan Jingyi barked, his tone sharp but still laced with amusement. “It’s your own fault for barging into this situation, so get out of there yourself!”
Jin Ling fumed and flailed as much as his trapped limbs would allow. “Seriously?! If my uncle finds out you left me here, he’ll… h-he’ll…!”
Laughter bubbled out of Lan Jingyi. “He’ll what? Scold you for getting caught instead of doing the catching? He’d probably leave you here too!”
Jin Ling’s face burned with anger and embarrassment. “Then get me down so we can finish the hunt and actually catch something!”
Lan Jingyi crossed his arms and puffed out his chest like a cocky pigeon. “Nope. Think of this as a cultivation trial. If you can free yourself from that web before the spider comes back, you’ll be ready to face the deepest, darkest depths of Gusu’s wilderness.”
This was the second time he’d mentioned the spider. Jin Ling’s face paled at the thought of whatever mammoth eight-legged beast owned the web he was trapped in. He could barely handle normal sized spiders, though he’d never dream of revealing his fear to Lan Jingyi.
While Jin Ling manically tore through hypothetical scenarios and outcomes if the spider showed up, Lan Jingyi turned around and started walking away. “H-Hey!” Jin Ling shouted. “Where are you going?!”
“Hunting!” Lan Jingyi called back before disappearing into the trees.
Jin Ling huffed with frustration and wiggled around. “What a loser.”
He quickly realized that struggling only made the web’s grip on him stronger since the more he flailed, the more heavy strands of sticky silk wound themselves around his wrists and ankles. Burning the web away was out of the question since he couldn’t reach his talismans and calling his uncle for help was far too embarrassing.
He wouldn’t be surprised if his uncle really did just leave him there like Lan Jingyi predicted. Regardless, he couldn’t reach his flares either.
Jin Ling furrowed his brow and pouted angrily as he brainstormed. “I can’t believe I’m asking myself this,” he mumbled, “but what would Wei Wuxian do?”
Suddenly, he had a flashback to the last time Wei Wuxian ‘handled’ a difficult situation: by running around like a chicken with no head and shrieking for HanGuang-Jun to come save him.
“Useless!” he spat.
He didn’t know how Wei Wuxian could be so shameless, so ridiculous. The last thing he needed right now was another Lan showing up and gloating at his predicament.
Just then, a rustling noise came from the bushes to his right. He froze, remembering the spider but whatever was in the bushes was far too small to create such a large web. Jin Ling watched carefully as the fluffy head of a well-groomed dog popped out of the leaves accompanied by the gentle chime of a round bell around its collar.
“Fairy!” Jin Ling exclaimed. “Where have you been?! Quick, go get help from—“
Jin Ling grew quiet as more rustling came from the bushes and a tall, handsome boy dressed in the white robes of the Lan sect stepped out. He brushed a generous amount of twigs and leaves out of his raven bangs that had accumulated from following Fairy through the forest.
Jin Ling’s face blanched. “…Lan Sizhui…?!”
Lan Sizhui looked up at him with a pair of wide, doe-like eyes that sparkled quite brilliantly in the moonlight. His mouth fell open at the sight of Jin Ling in the web, not entirely sure how to respond to the situation.
“Young Master Jin! There you are,” said Lan Sizhui, a wave of relief in his pleasant voice. “Are you alright?”
Jin Ling glowered at him and turned up his nose. “Tch. How about you ask your annoying Lan twin? He’s the one who left me here!”
Lan Sizhui blinked. “Lan Jingyi…?” He sighed and walked closer to Jin Ling, Fairy trotting triumphantly at his side as though she’d brought her master his knight in shining armor.
Lan Sizhui studied both the web and Jin Ling for a moment and suppressed a chuckle. He looked up at him with a sympathetic smile. “You’re stuck?”
Jin Ling turned beet red and snapped, “I’m not!!!” I-I’m just thinking…!”
Lan Sizhui smiled again, amused by his unwavering pride and reached for a small hunting knife that was strapped to his upper thigh. While Jin Ling was trying his best not to look at him, Lan Sizhui began carefully cutting away the web around his wrists.
Jin Ling’s face was burning with humiliation. Out of all the people Fairy could’ve brought, it just had to be Lan Sizhui—the last person he’d ever want to see him like this. Not to mention, Lan Sizhui was almost a carbon copy of HanGuang-Jun, albeit much more talkative and expressive. Jin Ling mentally prepared himself for receiving a long-winded, boring lecture once he was saved.
After a few minutes of meticulously sawing through the web, Jin Ling’s right hand was freed. He thought about grabbing one of his talismans and burning the rest of the web but his thoughts were instantly scrambled by the tender way Lan Sizhui held his hand to help him balance.
Shocked speechless, he ripped his hand away and immediately fell forward at an awkward angle, crashing directly into Lan Sizhui’s shoulder. He went from holding his hand to hooking his one free arm around Lan Sizhui’s neck and he couldn’t decide which of the two positions were more embarrassing.
His paranoia told him that Lan Jingyi was hiding somewhere in the bushes watching, snickering and memorizing every detail for blackmail purposes. Jin Ling sneered at the thought.
He stared down at Fairy who was sitting obediently in front of the web, wagging her tail and watching with keen interest as Lan Sizhui worked on freeing Jin Ling’s other wrist. However, he wasn’t prepared for the offset of balance that came with both of his hands being freed. For a moment, he felt as if he was actually going to fall and all of his anger melted into a potent jolt of fear.
Jin Ling yelped as he quickly clasped his other hand around Lan Sizhui’s neck and trembled with nerves. “Wah—! Don’t drop me!”
Lan Sizhui blushed from seeing Jin Ling so worried. The way he was hugging his neck made his cheeks flush a few shades darker. He gently but cautiously patted Jin Ling on the back in an attempt to reassure him. “I won’t drop you. I’m not Lan Jingyi, you know.”
Jin Ling grumbled at the mention and plopped his chin onto Lan Sizhui’s shoulder, glaring into the distance like a perturbed cat.
“I’m doing your ankles next,” Lan Sizhui warned. “You can use my back for support, okay?”
Just as Jin Ling was about to protest, Lan Sizhui crouched down. Jin Ling’s torso propelled forward and he hastily propped himself up with his forearms, using Lan Sizhui’s back as a platform. If the positions before were embarrassing, this was simply mortifying. His eyes darted around his eerily quiet surroundings as he tried to think about anything other than Lan Sizhui’s selfless chivalry, the way his lean muscles moved beneath Jin Ling’s body as he cut the web, and the warm scent of orange blossom and cedar wood clinging to Lan Sizhui’s clothes.
But the only unrelated thought that came to mind was the spider. Suddenly, Jin Ling wished he’d kept thinking about Lan Sizhui and stealthily inhaled the clean scent of the Lan boy’s robes for comfort.
“Um… Sizhui?”
Hearing Jin Ling say his name without ‘Lan’ was a rare occurrence and usually meant he had something serious to say. Lan Sizhui glanced to his side in acknowledgment. “Yes, Young Master Jin?”
Jin Ling swallowed. “Are there really giant spiders in Gusu’s forests? And do they really eat people?”
Lan Sizhui smiled. “Lan Jingyi’s been telling his horror stories, I assume?”
Jin Ling deflated onto Lan Sizhui’s back with an exasperated huff. “So he lied to me.”
“Not entirely,” Lan Sizhui revealed. “There’s giant spiders in the forest but they rarely eat people since nobody ever ventures that far in. I’m actually surprised you managed to find a web so close to the Cloud Recesses.”
Jin Ling furrowed his brow. “I really have rotten luck, then.”
Lan Sizhui laughed and shook his head, his hands still working dexterously at the webs around Jin Ling’s ankles. “For this situation, I’d say you lucked out. Take this web, for example—it’s still sticky enough to catch things but it’s fairly old and probably abandoned. Even if I’d showed up later than I did, the worst that could’ve happened is you being stuck here for a bit longer.”
Jin Ling slapped a fist down onto the small of Lan Sizhui’s back, causing the taller boy to rock forward from the shock. “That’s still a ‘what if’ scenario! I swear I’m gonna sic Fairy on Lan Jingyi the moment I see him next!” His voice fell quiet as he crossed his arms and looked off to the side. “I really could’ve died out here.”
A caring softness spread across Lan Sizhui’s face and his voice came in a barely audible whisper. “I’d never let that happen.”
“Huh?”
“Hm?” Lan Sizhui replied, pretending as if he didn’t say anything. “Ah, nothing.”
Finally, both of Jin Ling’s ankles were freed and he scrambled up Lan Sizhui’s back until his arms were hooked around his neck again. Lan Sizhui held him at the waist and carefully lowered him to the ground, letting him tap the toe of his boot on the dirt to make sure it was safe before planting his feet.
Jin Ling slumped his shoulders and sighed with relief, glad to be out of the web. Lan Sizhui expected him to go back to his fiery, combative self but to his surprise, Jin Ling frowned up at him with a bashful, apologetic expression.
“I… t-thank you for helping me.”
The words seemed incredibly difficult for him to say but they were earnest. He could tell by the way Jin Ling’s amber eyes burned with gratitude like a storm of autumn foliage. The sight was rather breathtaking, though he didn’t dare admit this out loud. Lan Sizhui blinked in disbelief before settling into a friendly smile. “Of course. I’m just glad you’re okay.”
Jin Ling blushed again and quickly looked at the ground, the sincerity of Lan Sizhui’s words setting his nerves alight.
“Oh,” Lan Sizhui said, eyes trained on Jin Ling’s wrists. “Let me see your hands.”
Jin Ling snapped his head back up. “H-Huh? Why?” Even as he asked the question, he subconsciously lifted his hands as if Lan Sizhui’s melodic voice possessed him to do so.
“The webs,” Lan Sizhui said. When he smiled, his eyes smiled too and Jin Ling paused to study the way his irises shifted from indigo grey to deep azure to cold amethyst in the moonlight—so strikingly opposite to Jin Ling’s wildfire gaze. He couldn’t look away even if he tried.
With his hands hovering in the air, Lan Sizhui began untangling the remainder of the webs from Jin Ling’s wrists and discarded the thick silk strands onto the ground.
Fairy immediately took notice of this and trotted over to Jin Ling’s ankles. She bit and gnawed at the webs on his boots and ripped them away quite efficiently. Lan Sizhui grinned at her efforts. “Good girl! Your master is lucky to have you.”
Normally, Jin Ling would’ve retaliated by now but Lan Sizhui glanced back up at him only to find he was frozen in place with a look of bewilderment as if he’d realized something important and didn’t know how to process it.
Lan Sizhui’s fingers lingered on his wrists for a moment. He frowned and tilted his head. “Young Master Jin? Are you feeling alright?”
Jin Ling finally looked down at where Lan Sizhui’s slender fingers grazed his skin and blushed so furiously he thought his head might explode. He felt dizzy and warm and unable to function. When Lan Sizhui suddenly reached up to brush a strand of spider’s silk from his hair, his chest buzzed like a hive of bees.
“Sorry,” Lan Sizhui said sheepishly. “I just noticed it now.”
For whatever reason, a million thoughts were running through Jin Ling’s mind that he would’ve slapped himself for earlier. Maybe it was the air or the time of night or some strange delirium from being trapped in the web—he couldn’t be sure. He just knew that right now, in this moment, he really liked Lan Sizhui.
He liked his tranquil eyes and gentle smiles. He liked the way his soft raven bangs swept over his headband and tempted his fingers to brush them to the side. He liked that he had to look up at him because of their height difference. He liked how his quiet, soothing voice washed over him in clement waves.
But most of all, he liked the way he touched him. Cautious but daring, soft yet protective. Jin Ling realized that from the moment Lan Sizhui showed up, he felt safe regardless of how many fits he threw.
“Sizhui,” Jin Ling said, trying his best to regain himself. “Can we…”
There was a significant pause between them but Lan Sizhui waited, afraid he might scare Jin Ling into saying ‘never mind’ if he interrupted. He didn’t even know what he expected him to say but he felt anxious with anticipation.
“Can we stay together? For the rest of the hunt?” Jin Ling immediately tore his gaze away from Lan Sizhui, shocked at how such simple words could be so humiliating to say.
Lan Sizhui’s lips parted and his eyes glistened with surprise. He lightly squeezed Jin Ling’s wrists and beamed at the request. “Of course.”
Jin Ling looked back at him with a shining expression, drinking up every detail of Lan Sizhui’s smiling face. When Lan Sizhui released his wrists, he suddenly felt cold so he sidled up beside him as close as he could without causing suspicion.
Their shoulders brushed together as they left the now mangled web and walked back into the forest, Fairy trotting happily behind.
“I’m still gonna kill Lan Jingyi,” Jin Ling muttered.
“Let’s just work on killing corpses for now,” said Lan Sizhui, laughing nervously.
“I’ll turn him into a corpse first, then!”
Lan Sizhui sighed. Senior Wei, what have you been teaching my a-Ling?

Hey, if anyone has an art request, just send me an ask and i’ll do it (for free)! I’m bored and need the practice tbh... Can’t promise it’ll be great, but i’ll try!! no nsfw stuff or illegal/creepy ships please. i’d prefer if it was for a fandom i like, cause then it’s much more fun (particularly any mxtx works, bsd, toh, atla, harry potter, etc. I’m in a lot of fandoms so just ask if you’re not sure). :D

4. I'd like to request an ITMF! It's for any fics where Madam Yu gets her comeuppance. I'd previously made this request, but due to unfortunate timing, it coincided with the sudden trend in jiang bashing fics. It's not the same thing. I'd like to read something where yzy get put in her place for her behaviour towards wwx, whether that is lwj, jly, etc or even wwx becoming so successful she is kicking herself (e.g. To have and to hold by moominmamashandbag). Thank you and I love you 😘 @theladypeartree
this body yet survives by RoseThorne (T, 45k, WIP, WangXian, No War AU, Recovery, Trauma, Dissociation, Courting Rituals, Near Death Experiences, Attempted Murder, Eventual Happy Ending, Panic Attacks, Protective Siblings, Triggers, Protective LWJ, Protective LQR, Yúnmèng Siblings Dynamics, Bad Parent YZY, POV Third Person, POV LWJ, Depression, Good Sibling JC, Good Sibling JYL) madam yu getting her comeuppance - there's a few fics where wwx is nearly killed due to her abuse that gets publicly witnessed prompting the Lan to offer him sanctuary. One I believe is called "this body yet survives" by rosethorne on ao3.
🧡 Company by WithBroomBefore (T, 29k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, Pre-Relationship, Getting Together, POV LWJ, Fix-It, Pre-Canon, at least to start, WWX goes to Cloud Recesses, But Not In The Usual Way, fear of character death, Everybody Lives, Hurt/Comfort, Happy Ending, Light Angst, good teacher LQR, Implied/Referenced Child Abuse, brief discussion of past minor character suicide, Kitten, Not YZY Friendly) Another one on ao3, I forget the name, but the summary says something like "lz meets a dying boy in cloud recesses", but wwx lives in the fic.
~*~
5. ITMF wangxian military au? @whateverweilanlovechild
~*~
6. In the mood for some fics where jc got a brother complex. I mean, jc absolutely loves wwx or he's like ' shutup! My bro is the best! ' or ' he's amazing!!! ' or ' LWJ!! STAY 10 KILOMETRES AWAY FROM MY BROTHER!! '
~*~
7. Hello!!!
For ITMF: any fic's where wangxian are in a relationship but nobody knows? Preferably canon setting, but others are also cool. Bonus points if they aren't even trying to hide it actually.

Mad about the Boy by TriviasFolly "For a moment Lan Zhan wanted. He wanted the right to kiss Wei Ying wherever he wanted, whenever he wanted. The right to do it without fear, without hesitation. To hold his hand, to see him go grey. The roar of a lawnmower coming to life grounded him to reality. He neatly shoved those feelings back into their box. That future could never happen for people like him"
Ominous by 3neetee ““You promised me a game,” they said. “Can you guess which one is your son?”
Enraged, Lan-furen declines to choose and cheats her way.
“Both.” She said with all her might, “Both are mine.” She can’t just look at the other baby and call it a monster; for it bears her child’s face. Lan-furen is already full of maternal love for both.
And with her choice, she expected to be punished. But instead of being angry, the fae leaves with a click of their tongue.”
Alter by DarkStunning. "The water and the wind mix and Wuxian looks at Jiang Cheng, "Now!" He screams and they both release their full powers.
The whirlpool rises, urged on by the wind and a small funnel of water quickly grows in size until a large typhoon has developed in its place in minutes.
The roar of power overshadows the screams of the Wens as they scramble about the ships. Cultivators trying desperately to remove the anchors and run, but eventually deciding to jump on their swords to escape. However, the typhoon is huge in both width and height. The funnel of rain and wind stretches heavenward and the conditions are so rough it makes flying or escaping impossible.
Wuxian watches without empathy as the monster storm makes its crawl towards the first ship. There’s a moment of stillness just before it makes contact, but then it's as if the power of the winds just suck the ship in and obliterate it into pieces.
It was harrowing watching something so large just be ripped to shreds within a matter of seconds. Wood, sails, people go flying and as it continues on, leaving behind only scraps."

Wangxian is adorable, yanli is the best, and lqr has such a good scene almost at the end! Author just uploaded the last chapter so you can binge read and leave some love in the comments!
[podfic] Let the Streetlights Guide You Home by jellyfishfireI (M, 3.5-4H, modern, car racing au, references to drug use & underage driving, UST, the fic by tellthemstories) I describe this as the "illegal streetcar racing AU you never knew you needed". I was introduced to this story by Jellyfisfire's JAW-DROPPINGLY INCREDIBLE podfic and I was instantly and irrevocably *hooked*. The story is insanely well written with emotions that will punch you in the gut and an incredible reinterpretation of canon into the illegal street racing world. Add to that Jelly's voice which pulls out every one of those emotions and the bass thumping and tires squealing and I was HOOKED

16. Not quite sure if this works for this blog? Itmf a Fandom that u think fans of the untamed/mdzs would also like? Maybe it has similar themes or cinematography? Shares the same actor for a main character? You found out about it because of the untamed Fandom? Etc. Explain ur reasoning :)
mreisse: Word of Honor is a logical one? Someone said "Guardian crawled so that Untamed could walk and Word of Honor could run." It's on Netflix so easily accessible for us westerners. I found a fan translation of the book by priest but no official release in English, so not sure how book fans will take it. It's more martial arts than monster fighting but the costumes and dialogue are to DIE FOR. Although I'm pretty sure everyone around these parts already know, I figured...
flamingwell: Guardian!! Listen, I thought LWJ was the essence of gay pining until I met Shen Wei. That man is the concentrated pure essence of gay pining so strong it threatens the fabric of the universe. Beyond that, want straight-laced gay 4 disaster bisexual smarty? Want canonically gay book turned into a show that, while it passes censorship, *everyone* is committed to showing the relationship for what it is? Want found family? Humor? Loads of hurt/comfort? Mutual protectiveness? Battle couple? Some of the best acting around (okay, only from the mains, but DAMN do they carry it on their backs)? Keeping secrets from loved ones? Self-sacrificial tendencies? COME ON DOWN TO GUARDIAN!

17. Itmf: fics that did something in a cool way. Maybe a clever plot device, an unexpected twist, a deviation from fanon that worked well, an unexpected deviation from a route the majority of fics in the Fandom do take, etc

[mdzs] In depth analysis of Lan Xichen’s name
It’s been 2.5 years since my last MDZS name analysis(!!), and since then I’ve gotten so many requests from the fandom wanting to see more. So here’s to everyone who have enjoyed reading my posts so far - today I’ll be diving into Lan Xichen’s name. Sit back as this is an interesting one!
Tumblr media
Lan Xichen is his zi ,or courtesy name, which means ‘chancellor of the morning sunlight’ (Xi 曦 - morning sunlight; Chen 臣- chancellor, minister).
It derives from the poem ‘Xian Qing Fu’ 《闲情赋》 (Ode to a Quiet Life) by Eastern Jin dynasty recluse poet Tao Yuan Ming 陶渊明. Tao is remembered for his appreciation of beauty and serenity of the natural world around him, often admiring the good of others and documenting his wishes for a peaceful and fair society. (NB: The majority of Chinese people would know of the phrase ‘世外桃源’ - Xanadu / fantastical place of great idyllic magnificence and beauty, which originated from him.) This particular poem is a long study on the beauty and virtues of an idealised woman, and is known today as one of the most iconic bodies of work celebrating a woman’s true inner qualities. “悲晨曦之易夕,感人生之长勤” (bēi chén xī zhī yì xī, gǎn rén shēng zhī cháng qín), translates figuratively to ‘it is regrettable that the light of this morning will soon be replaced by the dark night, reminding people that life is filled with endless fatigue.’
One can’t help but draw parallels to Xichen’s life - he was always a noble figure, approached people with sincerity, treated everyone with an equal level of respect and believed deeply in those he stayed close to. But life could not always pay back what he gave to others, as he learnt of his trusted friend Jin Guangyao’s corrupt ways and betrayal - the light that was replaced by darkness.
I find it fascinating how poet Tao’s perspective of the world is so similar to Xichen’s. Tao is known for spending much of his life in reclusion, living in the countryside, receiving only a few guests he had a strong bond with, reading and indulging in his love for poetry. As a talented and knowledgeable man, he spent a decade of his life as a politician - but soon lost faith in a system that was characterised by nepotism, violence, corruption and civil disorder. Torn between ambition and the desire to retreat into solitude, he chose the latter. I wonder if MXTX drew inspiration from this, as Xichen also began as a leader in the cultivators’ world, is a huge lover and collector of literature, and after all the turmoil also decided to withdraw into reclusion.
Xichen’s birth name is 涣 (Huàn), which has two main meanings: 1) ‘melting of snow’; 2) ‘water dispersing in all directions’. His title is 泽芜君 (zé wú jūn), which literally means ‘nourisher of barren lands’ (泽润 - to nourish, bestow; 平芜 - land overgrown with weeds). Combining the two, we can understand his name to mean ‘water disperses in all directions, nourishing everything it touches’. 泽 in Chinese is used specifically to describe bestowing something deep, long-lasting and meaningful (as supposed a one time gift/favour - which would be 惠). In the book, MXTX also describes him as “清煦温雅,款款温柔” (meaning ‘warm, gracious and elegant, gentle in all aspects’). Clearly, his name highlights the grace and kindness he radiates and bestows on everyone around him. He is the keeper of peace and righteousness.
Bonus:
Note that the word Huan 涣 has a water particle, similar to his brother Lan Wangji’s birth name Zhan 湛 - it brings to mind the ‘Twin Jades of Lan’ title for the brothers, with a water element - like Pisces.
Interestingly, in ‘I Ching’ or ‘Book of Changes’, the ancient Chinese divination text which contains of 64 hexagrams, there is a 涣 hexagram:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, it represents how gentleness can summon greatness. I copy the below from iching-online.com:
Tumblr media
In simple terms, it symbolises water that washes away dirt and baptises new life within oneself. And the aftermath is precisely Zhan 湛 in his brother’s name, meaning crystal clear water.
Other name analyses:
Wei Wuxian
Lan Wangji
Jiang Wanyin
Lan Sizhui

More Wangxian Faves: Post-Canon & Canon Divergent
This list was made to honor the request in the notes on my WWX recs post from @100percentserenity for some more fics featuring Wei Ying set in canon or canon divergent fics. Now, not all of these are strictly from his POV, but they all feature him at his quick-witted, charming, & hopelessly oblivious best. Canon divergent can be a pretty wide category, so do keep that in mind if you see a rec & think, "This isn't very canonical.." Haha. There are two repeats from my first Wangxian rec list, but they fit the ask & are both excellent & worth mentioning twice! Now, in no particular order, may I recommend:
Far Away You Are by cqlorphan (E, 17,358)
Thoughts: I absolutely loved the idea of the esteemed Hanguan-jun being this not-so-secret purveyor of comfort hugs & heartache advice. Wei Ying’s shock upon finding this out was so funny I couldn’t help but laugh, & my amusement only intensified when he made the scary Yiling Laozu face while asking who broke Lan Zhan’s heart, only to be told it was him who’d done so. I wanted to hug all the Juniors myself. They’re all so very precious. This was a lovely story where very little hurt in the end, & sometimes that’s just nice after the gut punch that canon gives us.
my age has never made me wise by idrilka (E, 63,439)
Thoughts: I absolutely loved this. It was pretty CQL (The Untamed) compliant & told the post-canon story of Wei Ying wandering alone as a rogue cultivator after the events of the show. Of course he was pining after his zhiji the entire time, so when he heard gossip that the Chief Cultivator might be married by summer's end it nearly undid him. The angst was excruciating, but One Brain Cell WWX Strikes Again fics somehow always manage to be fun at the same time. I've read several post-canon, wandering Wei Ying stories, & this one was particularly good.
Not What We May Be by brooklinegirl (E, 29,222)
Thoughts: I love Wei Ying’s cleverness in this. He’s his usual irreverent, chaotic, charming self, & I never get tired of how wonderfully his mind works. The odd phenomenon occurring in the town he’s staying in was an interesting mystery to solve, & I had to laugh when Lan Zhan arrived with the usual Lan Juniors ensemble in tow. Watching them all work together to figure out how to fix the issue while also dealing with the healthy side helping of oblivious Wei Ying & searing sexual tension between him & Lan Zhan was a fun treat.
All Caught Up by brooklinegirl (E, 36,934)
Thoughts: Wei Ying proposing to Lan Zhan to get him out of an arranged marriage he didn’t want is so something he’d do. There is no character more quintessentially chaotic good than Wei Ying. You can’t change my mind. The practice kissing was a lovely regular feature from this author, & my particular favorite thing in this fic was Nie Huaisang’s cameo as their pseudo wedding planner with his classic meddling while insisting he’s useless shenanigans. This was super cute. I liked it a lot.
love, in fire and blood by cicer (E, 360,042)
Thoughts: This was an example of a cool MDZS-specific trope I hadn't seen before, & in it Wei Ying, the infamous Yiling Patriarch, was a cultivator who had achieved immortality (aka, he's OP as fuck but in a fun way). The great sects enlisted his help to win the Sunshot Campaign, & what did he demand in return? Lan Zhan's hand in marriage, of course! It was a fantastic slow burn in which poor Lan Zhan suffered the mortifying ordeal of falling in love with his own husband. An amazing & complex plot, chock-full of angsty goodness.
Birthday Party by waffles_4_breakfast (E, 100,123)
Thoughts: I loved the idea that Wei Ying would actually get to attend Jin Ling's one month celebration, but I was, of course, still concerned about the continued danger he'd be in. This fic nicely showcased Wei Ying's sharp wit, charm, & ever-present sass. I also loved his dramatics when it came to his interactions with Lan Zhan (and in general, of course, haha), but their sweetness together was ultimately my favorite thing about them. The continued threat to Wei Ying's life & all the plotting surrounding it was interesting, but the best things about this fic were the characters & their bonds with each other.
Fentao-laoshi's Guide to Cut-Sleeve Pleasures by occultings (E, 31,775)
Thoughts: This was set during the Cloud Recesses Study Arc, & it was so, so good. The sexual tension between them was just simmering the entire time, & the idea of them “practicing for marriage” on each other was fucking hilarious. Their banter was top notch, & I absolutely loved Lan Zhan’s nearly overwhelming desperation for Wei Ying, not to mention Wei Ying’s bullshit getting him in over his head (as usual, but this time in a fun way, haha). The feelings were actually very sweet, too. I enjoyed this a lot.
wide enough and wild by impossibletruths (E, 64,120)
Thoughts: I love the tag “Noping Out Of Society With Your Boyfriend And Your 50 Wen Refugees: The Novel”. It made me laugh before I’d even started the fic. While this was set during the time period in which Wei Ying frees the Wen refugees, they didn’t end up in Yiling this time. I won’t get too specific, but they still ended up rebuilding their own little settlement & farming to survive, basically. Lan Zhan found them & decided to stay. The slow burn was so good, & I loved the pining in particular. I cried a couple of times in this. It really was just that good.
your problem as a mountain. by cupofwater (E, 30,989)
Thoughts: It was so cute to see the difference between Wei Ying’s & Nie Huaisang’s fantasies, & Wei Ying’s turning out to be more vanilla & romantic in nature absolutely cracked me up. I nearly hurt myself laughing when Nie Mingjue sent Lan Zhan some of the letters by mistake, & I was delighted by Lan Zhan’s reaction. I won’t spoil it, but the smut was lovely & despite the misunderstanding our boys definitely both got their happy ending, haha.
The Vermilion Ribbon by Unforth (E, 233,368)
Thoughts: This sat on my Marked For Later list on AO3 for the longest time, & I really did myself a disservice by not reading it sooner. It was absolutely fantastic. The world-building, pacing, & intricate plot were all brilliantly done, & Wei Ying being in the Wen clan was nothing like I imagined it was going to be in this. Instead of his core family being the Jiangs, we get Wen Qing in Jiang Yanli’s role & Wen Ning in Jiang Cheng’s. Now I’ll warn you that this got super heavy in some places, so mind those tags & take care of yourselves. Nothing was graphic enough that I had to stop reading, but it didn’t shy away from the serious subject matter it covered either. The whole fic was a real emotional roller coaster, & I can’t recommend it highly enough.

˚◞❀˳ You were betrothed to Wen Ruohan from the time both of you were young. You watched him grow into the man that he is today — from a humble little boy to the tyrant he was raised to be. It's no wonder that you felt some level of anxiety when it came to marrying him. It always seemed as though he looked at you as nothing more than the partner he was forced to be with. The one who would be at his side and bear his children. Never a wife nor a lover — but a partner. Another duty to his clan.
˚◞❀˳ Which is what led you to believe that your wedding night would be nothing more than a formal consummation. A simple had to be done for the sake of carrying on his lineage. The ceremony droned on, yet you could only focus on the pair of beady crimson hues that fixed upon your form. Taking in your every feature. From your face, to the stunning scarlet silk that clothed your frame, to the jewellery that your handmaidens dolled you up in. At some point you had considered his gaze to be that of judgement — but perhaps that was simply your nerves. Regardless, when the two of you retired for the evening, you didn't know what to expect.
˚◞❀˳ It wasn’t until his lips were on your neck and his large hands found their place upon your waist — when lean, strong fingers pulled apart silk and his gaze fell into something dark that you truly knew what you were in for. Your back meets the bed and without a second thought, he’s over you.
“My, they certainly chose quite the fair wife for me,’’ his murmur lingers heavy in the room, akin to each breath that you take as you lay there beneath him. Scarlet wedding robes long discarded while he still dons his own as he kneels over your smaller form — apart from his lengthy, dark tresses that he has since pulled out of his topknot and now frames you like a curtain. As though concealing you from the world, for his eyes alone.
Calloused hands that appeared oh so delicate caress your bare sides and his lips find their place back onto your neck. Pressing a series of rough, open-mouthed kisses along your sensitive flesh as he steers his hips into yours. Rolling, grinding and eliciting the prettiest of noises from you. Noises that have his grin curling into your skin that he claims with a series of bites and deep purple marks while you leave a patch on his robes damp from your arousal.
“Excited already?” The sect leader breathes as a warm palm presses over your cunt, pushing another moan from your now-parted lips. “So wet. . .’’ his words fan against your heated ear and you can’t help but buck against his hand with a desperate whine. “It’s almost pathetic.’’
˚◞❀˳ There was no taking his time when it came to you. Any stories you’ve heard of easy love-making and tender touch on a woman’s wedding night are none of what you received. He grabbed, groped, dragged his nails across your skin — he bit, suckled and nibbled hickeys all over your body. He teased and taunted, mocked and degraded; and you loved every second of it.
˚◞❀˳ It took little to no time until his slender fingers were buried to the knuckle in your squelching cunt. Thrusting pointedly at a bundle of nerves that had your back arching and hands clambering up to touch him for the first time that night. Your nails find his shoulders, and he hisses under his breath. For a moment you thought he may have reprimanded you, but he responds in the form of digging his thumb against your clit and rubbing quick, frantic circles. Tormenting your inexperienced body and making you beg for mercy from his fingers alone.
“So tight, how will you ever take me?”
All you can respond with is a splutter of moans and pitiable whines of his name. Your eyes flutter and loop back as your hips attempt to buck into his hand. “N-Ngh — my - m-my lord,’’ your pant is cut short by a fresh sting on your thigh and you whimper at his free hand that slaps down onto it — leaving behind a blush in its wake.
“Stay still.’’ Wen Ruohan’s words hold the same authority that he uses on a day-to-day basis. The hand that recently spanked your supple flesh squeezes at it before forcing your hips into the sheets and holding you firmly. His large palm and long fingers press down onto your pelvic bone and the thrusting of his hand buried between your legs abruptly speeds up. You splutter another series of moans dripping with your frantic pleasure.
“That’s it, that’s it,’’ you swear that you hear a groan resonate from his throat. You’re not sure. The swell of pleasure makes everything far too hazy and all you can do is limp your head back into the sheets and cry out quiet calls of his name and little whines about how it’s too much and you can’t cum again.
“Of course you can — no,’’ his sharp teeth clamp down on your neck just as your body spasms with another approaching orgasm. “You will.” He accentuates the promise with the curling and shallow thrusts of his fingers up into that one spot that made your toes curl and air leave your lungs.
“You still have to take my cock for the night. Don’t you dare forget.’’
˚◞❀˳ It’s something that you were far from ready for. The second that he disrobed himself and at last your eyes met the head of his throbbing cock. Pink, pulsing and leaking with precum. Despite your greatest attempts to control your expression, you could barely hide the widening of your eyes from him — and it boosted his already inflated ego. Resulting in a chuckle while he wrapped a hand around himself and gave a few pumps.
˚◞❀˳ “It won’t fit,’’ you’d try to reason with him as a shred of anxiety swells around your heart. But he merely clamps his hands down onto your thighs and spreads you wide, witnessing the creamy mess leaking from your cunt abused by his fingers only moments prior. “Oh, my dear,’’ he chuckles, and the endearment is enough to put you on cloud nine. “We’ll make it fit.’’
˚◞❀˳ It was painful, to say the least. The stretch of his cock had your head spinning and the air knocked out of your lungs. Multiple times you whined and whimpered for him to take it easy — which to his credit he did. Easing you with shallow thrusts and more kisses across your neck already littered with his lovebites.
˚◞❀˳ It was only when he was certain that you were accustomed to his length and girth did he steer you into the sheets and bully his cock into your weeping cunt until you were keening to the high heavens for him.
“N-Ngh —! My lord – p-please, oh please ah,’’
Every noise that left you only fuelled his actions. His hands refuse to leave a spot of you untouched. Caressing, squeezing and pinching at all parts of you. Thighs, breast — at one point he fixed his thumb onto your clit and delights in the way you fall into the sheets with spluttered gasps and desperate tugs at his wrist.
“Slow, s-slow,’’ you try to reason with him but are greeted with another onslaught of his hips that leave bruises onto your tender flesh. His large frame drives you into the sheets, holding your squirming form still as his cock parts your walls on repeat. Harsh, quick, as his groans and hushed grunts have long since started to spill from his lips. “Slow? You want me to slow down when you are sucking me in like this?” To prove his point the hand on your clit drops with his index and middle finger splitting into a v-shape to caress your slit stretched out by the girth of his cock.
“Look at this pathetic little cunt. Can’t even take her husband — hmm? How will you bear my children?” His words prompt you to bite down onto your lip and your nails scratch along his back as you bury your head into his shoulder. “I-I can’t — my lord, please,’’ your whine falls on deaf ears as he only slams the entirety of his cock into your flushed walls and shallows his thrusts into a relentless, constant pound.
“Sshh,’’ he groans and despite the harsh treatment on your poor cunt, his hand delicately caresses the side of your face and he brings his hungry lips to yours. Devouring you whole as he has the rest of your body. “You’re mine,’’ he breathes, crimson hues half-lidded and hips stuttering as he approaches yet another release. Ready to fill you up and spill more of his cum onto the ruined bedsheets.
“And what’s mine does not complain. She just takes what I give her.’’

MDZS Daycare AU where Wangxian are co-lead teachers for a class of 10-18 month old babies and have a secret of their own.
---
Lan Wangji is the morning lead teacher while Wei Wuxian is the evening lead, and their shifts overlap for about 5 hours which is where max chaos ensues.
Mianmian, the assistant teacher in the mornings, and Mo Xuanyu, the assistant in the afternoons, like to confer over their findings when they take their breaks during nap time, leaving their heads in the classroom to...stare? Glare? at each other. They're not sure.
When Mianmian gets in for her shift at 8am, Lan Wangji is already there with the youngest kid on their roster, Wen Yuan, who always gets dropped off first every morning before she even arrives.
The babies trickle, with a mixture of tears and giggles, and of course a complete mood turn around once their caregivers have left them, A-Qing especially who goes from sobbing bloody murder to laughing maniacally as soon as her dads leave.
Lan Wangji keeps the morning peaceful with circle time and baby meditation which is mostly him and Mianmian trying to get the babies to sit still and somehow succeeding? Lan Wangji has to be magic.
They read a few books and sing some cute songs with the babies and it's all really nice and tranquil.
Then at 10AM, Wei Wuxian comes in and all hell breaks loose.
Where Lan Wangji is all about structured play meant to engage the babies' fine motor skills, Wei Wuxian is a "let them run free and wild" type.
His favorite activity is to cover a peace of long sheet paper in puddles of paint and let the babies go wild. Sometimes Mianmian and Lan Wangji are able to get smocks on them first…but most of the time there's a frantic clothing change before lunch so the babies don't fall asleep in paint covered clothing.
Mianmian has no idea how Jingyi always manages to get pain in his diaper, but yeah. Always.
She's trying to change as many babies as she can while she watches Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian argue again about Wei Wuxian's plans for the afternoon activity, which is really just "collect mud during out walk from outside and bring it inside!"
Lan Wangji glares at him with his mouth in a straight line while Wei Wuxian is clearly trying to not laugh at his face. At least little A-Yuan is there tugging on their pants to act as a cute buffer. No one can ever resist little A-Yuan.
He still hasn't learned how to crawl yet, so he scoots around everywhere on his butt which is insanely adorable. And he recently learned how to say "Ge!" and Wei Wuxian just about burst into tears the first time he did.
To be fair though, right now A-Yuan calls everything "Ge".
His teachers, including Mianmian? Ge.
Friends? Ge.
His carrots? Ge.
His bunny stuffy? Ge.
Naturally, nobody minds at all.
Around lunch time, when half of the babies are nodding off in either their simple rice dishes or mess of mashed something, Mo Xuanyu comes in to help them get the babies ready for bedtime. They spend half the time getting Wei Wuxian to lower his voice, with Lan Wangji sending him a dirty look.
It's funny because Mianmian has seen Wei Wuxian fill in as the only head when Lan Wangji was out. He absolutely knows how to be quiet at nap time.
Makes sense why he just smirks at Lan Wangji instead of really watching his volume.
Once the babies are all asleep, the head teachers confer over their lesson plans while rubbing the backs of the few stragglers who never quite sleep as fast, Mianmian and Mo Xuanyu go out for a walk and eat their lunch.
There, Mianmian fills Mo Xuanyu in on the day's anctics, which mostly just becomes a chance for them to gossip about their lead teachers.
"They're insane, I swear," Mo Xuanyu says as he takes the cheese off his pizza slice and eats the bread and cheese separately for…some reason. "Like how did they even start working together?"
"I heard Yanli had them placed together because they requested it." Mianmian eats her pizza normally, thank you, with extra pineapple and ham and mayo drizzled all over.
"God they're like obsessed with each other, I swear."
They head back in just as Zizhen starts crying, waking all the other babies and then they're off, Mo Xuanyu heading diaper duty this time while Mianmian gets their afternoon snacks ready. Wei Wuxian reads a book with way more theatricality than necessary for babies who probably don't have the ability to understand yet, but they watch him, enraptured by his voice as Lan Wangji puts their sleeping mats away.
Mianmian leaves soon after, once the babies are seated with their cheerios and blueberries and sippy cups, leaving Mo Xuanyu to help out with the afternoon shift.
They take the babies out in a walk using a giant baby wagon that honestly looks like it belongs on a rollercoaster and Mo Xuanyu is a bit put out that he can't fit in the seats. He's tried. They checked.
They take the babies on a promenade around the waterfront area where their daycare is, Wei Wuxian flittering about grabbing sticks and leaves for sensory exploration and pointing out all the cool birds. At the same time, Lan Wangji stands perfectly stoic and vigilant for passersby trying to take pictures of a kid they don't know (like who does that???) as well as a sniffley nose.
Usually that sniffley nose is Wei Wuxian, who is getting more energy out than any of the babies. Lan Wangji hands him a tissue all the same.
They get back in soon after, which is around when Lan Wangji has to leave to get to his night classes for his Masters in Early Childhood Education.
Mo Xuanyu heads up the afternoon circle time, singing songs and making up the lyrics cause he really never had the chance to learn nursery rhymes when he was a kid. He watches from the corner of his eyes as the head teachers mutter something to each other by the door, heads close together. But he can't focus for long when Jingyi has decided to climb on top of A-Yuan who is, for whatever reason, perfectly unbothered.
Lan Wangji leaves and Wei Wuxian joins them, taking over circle time. That's when the real fun begins.
Wei Wuxian's goal at the end of they day is to tire the babies out as much as possible so their poor parents won't have a hard time getting them to rest.
Mo Xuanyu thinks that's just an excuse for all the caffeine he drinks kicking in.
They start with one of the messier art activities Wei Wuxian can't get away with when Lan Wangji is around, usually involving some bits of natures that he'd dub "unhygienic".
"Pfft," Wei Wuxian tells Mo Xuanyu, for the thousandth time. "Everyone needs to eat dirt. Builds immunity."
Mo Xuanyu isn't sure that's how it works, but at least the babies love splashing in mud and sticking leaves to pieces of paper.
Once they change the babies into a second set of spare clothes, it's dance party time. The best time actually.
Babies can't really dance, but it's cute watching them wiggle their little butts and try. Wei Wuxian usually picks at least one kid to dance to Old McDonald with, spinning them around and around.
Usually the baby he picks is A-Yuan. They're not supposed to have favorites, but well Mo Xuanyu can't blame him. He is the cutest.
Sometimes they get noise complaints from the other classrooms, especially the actual baby room with the 3 month to 9 month old and their sleep schedule that are basically all the time.
Wei Wuxian typically just smooths it over by bringing Jin Ling over to join their party.
It's technically not allowed, and theoretically they should be careful since he's the boss' son and all, but Wei Wuxian is the boss' adopted brother and anyways the teachers on the baby baby room just give him a grateful look for keeping the colic baby busy and away from their splitting eardrums.
Once the dance part is over and Wei Wuxian and Mo Xuanyu are lying on the carpet, letting the babies crawl over them in some attempt at "building movement skills", they get a bit of a reprieve before the real challenge of the day starts.
Pick up time.
This is when Wei Wuxian actually listens to Lan Wangji's suggestions for small group play, and they divide into three groups, one with independent play in the pretend area for the older babies that are more toddlers now and two others focused on sensory exploration and fine motor skills. Fancy words for saying the dollhouse area, the playdough zone (monitored by Mo Xuanyu because these babies will absolutely eat it) and the puzzle table that Wei Wuxian keeps an eye on as he greets the parents.
He's great with them, seriously. The parents love Wei Wuxian. It's like a switch flips and he goes from chaos gremlin to genius in childcare, offering really well thought out explanations for the activities the kids engaged in as he hands their artwork to the parents.
They ask him to babysit all the time, but Wei Wuxian deflects and makes some excuse about having busy evenings and weekends, then gestures to Mo Xuanyu who always needs the extra cash.
Mo Xuanyu is always struck with awe at this. He has a lot to learn from Wei-qianbei.
Sometimes the parents join them a bit for play, but a lot of the times, they just leave. Bustling their babies up in their coats with extra cuddles and taking them home, happy to spend a few hours with them before bedtime.
It's Mo Xuanyu's favorite time of the day actually. A good parent's unconditional love for their kid, who can resist?
The last one to leave, is, of course, poor little A-Yuan sitting at the puzzle table with Wei Wuxian. Once the second to last kid leaves, usually Jingyi screaming down the hall as his amused mom follows sedately after him, Wei Wuxian gives Mo Xuanyu a tired smile and tells him he can go.
"Are you sure? I can help clean up?"
The room looks like a tornado ran through it, every time. Mo Xuanyu always feels guilty leaving early, but he has night classes…so…
Wei Wuxian waves him off, "Don't sweat it, I have to stay a bit later anyways. I've got this."
Mo Xuanyu relents and goes over to smack a wet kiss on A-Yuan's chubby cheek before he leaves. He gets a gummy smile as his reward, and he and Wei Wuxian laugh as he leaves the room.
Mo Xuanyu can't help but feel a little sad for A-Yuan. The first to arrive and the last to leave. His parents must be so busy. He hoped they get to spend time with him on the weekends at least, hopefully.
The classroom is always quiet this time in the evening, and Wei Wuxian fluffs A-Yuan's messy mop of hair before he stands up.
"Well, A-Yuan…shall we clean up before your baba gets here?"
It doesn't take long actually, and Wei Wuxian has only just finished putting the toys away and is about to start on the mess in the sink when A-Yuan's other dad arrives.
Lan Zhan always come by after his last class to pick them up. He usually has a line of tension across his forehead, the long day having finally gotten to him.
Wei Wuxian smooths it out with gentle kiss and a hug, and asks "Who annoyed my poor husband today? Should I go beat them up for you?"
Lan Zhan's stiff shoulders droop as he relaxes into Wei Wuxian's embrace, releasing an exhausted sigh.
"Su She," he mutters into Wei Wuxian's neck, lips pressed against the soft silk of his skin.
Wei Wuxian snorts, "Of course. I'll get him for you, baby. Make him wish he never thought about messing with you."
Wei Wuxian runs his fingers through Lan Zhan's hair, luxuriating in the moment, before their son pipes up, not one to be ignored for long.
"Ge!"
His dad share a private laugh. "One of these days you'll call for us properly, right little bunny?" Wei Wuxian says, lifting A-Yuan into the air and smiling at his sweet giggles. "Come on, try it. Ba-ba. A-Die. Ba-ba." He sounds the letters out and points to him and Lan Zhan in turn, so there can be no mistake.
A-Yuan just tilts his head in confusion and gives them a puzzled look. "Ge?"
Wei Wuxian heaves a weary sigh as Lan Zhan takes A-Yuan from him and cuddles him against his chest. "Well, at least I tried. I'll just finish up here, and then we can head home, mmkay?"
"Mn." Lan Wangji nods as A-Yuan burrows into his shoulder with a sleepy sigh. He presses a kiss against the soft baby hair that grows wild on A-Yuan's head, swinging them gently back and forth as Wei Ying putters about and straightens the rest of the room.
He always wants to make the room prefect for Lan Wangji when he comes in early tomorrow morning. It brings a small smile to Lan Wangji's face thinking of the level of consideration his husband gives him, even with their conflicting teaching styles.
After this, they'll head home and enjoy a nice simple meal, spend an hour with A-Yuan just the three of them, before bathtime and bed.
Then, Lan Wangji and Wei Ying will have their own time, just for them.
Tomorrow, it will all repeat.
Maybe it's not the most conventional lifestyle in the world, but there's little Lan Wangji can complain about when he gets to spend every day with his husband and son, doing what they love, together.
fin.

Binghe though. Binghe's a lot of things. Binghe's like a dizzying amount of things.
As a Qing Jing Peak disciple, Binghe had gone through dehumanizing privation. He had gone through so many disappointments and losses that he had decided not to cry anymore. He was not going to show weakness because weak things get stepped on, like his mother had been.
He's still trying, thinking if he is good enough, then he can succeed and gain acceptance, he only has to hide or downplay who he is; and be what they want him to be, those golden people who had already made it into the status of a full human being worthy of respect, even if they got there by virtue of a luckier birth. There is something wrong with him that he needs to hide and overcome.
This theme comes back with Meng Yao and Mo Xuanyu in MDZS.
I believe both Binghes were still trying when they were each pushed into the Abyss. After that, Bingge knows that cannot happen, so he becomes a thing of nightmares instead. (Meng Yao tortures and murders and keeps the facade with ever-rising cost. Mo Xuanyu annihilates himself to gain revenge.)
Bingmei--tries again. Genuinely. He tries with the Huan Hua Palace. If he is good enough and toes the line and smiles gently and is always correct, shizun who said that demons are not inherently bad might come back to that point of view. Just keep everything that happened in the Abyss, in the Abyss. Keep that demon stain hidden. Manipulate. Lie. Be a hero. They will accept you then. The person who loved you the last time you were pulling this act, who made you feel genuinely loved, will love you again if you correct yourself.
There are so many things about Bingqiu in canon that I find unsatisfying, but if you're putting a character through all of this, I can't really even begrudge that they play-act good disciple/indulgent master, that Binghe reverts back to the innocent act that has never had more than a passing familiarity with the truth, asking SQQ to treat him as a loveable child. He knows that Shen Qingqiu knows exactly what he is like and who he is. He's just found a way to behave that Shen Qingqiu responds to with love, and it's the same one he was projecting when he really was a child, even if this time they both know it is an act, a request for affection.
When Shen Qingqiu calls him a pure-hearted young man, I think what he means is that Binghe wanted to be a hero, not a villain, and he's not driven by greed or cruelty, but is seeking acceptance, and has been reacting to repeated rejection, failure to integrate.
When Shen Qingqiu says he himself has reached enlightenment, he means he has put his pride aside to be able to give of himself fully and without reservation to another who needs him, whom he loves. Both of them needed that at that moment, and I think they needed to keep giving and receiving for some time.
Anyway I started writing this illness-fuelled wall of text to say that Binghe wouldn't act like a whiny child around anyone else, because he's a chameleon who responds to what you expect to see, if he cares about your opinion at all, and who he is by himself is a results-oriented overachiever with the same crack in the middle that most other perfectionists are also working so hard to conceal.

Jiangui / Ah! What the Hell - Mo Ran’s whip from 2ha
“There is only one person in this world who can open Ever-Yearning. This person is extremely important in your life; you must love this person dearly, and this person must also love you in return, and be wholly devoted to you.” - Ji Baihua regarding the Ever-Yearning box containing Jiangui
Mo Ran’s Holy weapon in his second life, Jiangui - which translates to “Ah! What the hell” due to Mo Ran accidentally exclaiming this when opening the Ever-Yearning box.
Jiangzai - Xue Yang’s sword (MDZS)

Little Palace Mistress’s Whip (SVSSS)
Submission: Shen Qingqiu is whipped, and not just for Luo Binghe?
Longcheng / Dragon City - Xue Meng’s sword from 2ha
Since Xue Meng could not receive a holy weapon from Jincheng Lake, he used Longcheng, a high-quality scimitar from Taxue Palace. From what I remember, Mo Ran gifted him the Wangshu Crystal from the Carp Essence that was requested by Song Qiutong to help him cultivate/add to his sword, making it something similar to a “heavenly weapon.”

Submission: The sword that stabbed through Lan Xichen's best friend, Jin Guangyao. Tragic sword.

Suibian - Wei Wuxian's sword (MDZS)
Suibian is Wei Wuxian’s sword that sealed itself after his death. Its name translates to “Whatever” due to Wei Wuxian’s inability to think of a suitable name and telling Jiang Fengmian to name it “whatever.” This is, in my opinion, the funniest thing Jiang Fengmian has ever done in his life

fic writer meme!
[RISES FROM THE DEPTHS] I'm here!! Thank you so much @uhuraisgay and @englishsub for the tags, and also for reminding me that I've missed Tumblr
1. how many works do you have on ao3? 50 even - which was more than I thought!
2. what's your total ao3 wordcount? 187,448
3. what fandoms do you write for?
My fic-writing impulses come along like cicada seasons, except without any regularity whatsoever: I do a lot of dabbling in a lot of fandoms, I can never really tell if something's going to light my brain on fire. Most of my fic output came from Yuletide for a long while (I loved the grab bag aspect and writing little treats for small fandoms, but then my holidays got busier), and then Yuri on Ice and MDZS were my biggest fandoms by far, especially MDZS. I've written Yuwu recently, and I'd love to write some Trigun, LoZ, or Mysterious Lotus Casebook one of these days.
4. what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
grow
the only way out
The Guests of Cloud Recesses
detente
bespoke
And the soft animal is our runner-up at #6!
5. do you respond to comments?
I usually don't unless it's a request or a question, but I read and treasure every one.
6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I am too tender for Bad Endings for the most part, but my canon-verse Nie Huaisang fic after me comes the flood does not end in a particularly good place for anyone involved. (But even then, we know it gets better for him eventually... albeit at the expense of several bystanders)
7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I tend to write pretty gentle, occasionally LIGHTLY bittersweet happy endings (that's the cafecliche guarantee baby) but part of me wants to say 'the only way out' (and probably 'the yunmeng accords' series in general) here. I tend to write fic when I want to play around with the emotions or relationship dynamics that can already be found in canon, so 'the yunmeng accords' is probably as close to a fix-it as I'm going to get.
8. do you get hate on fics?
Not usually! I was part of the Great MDZS Anon Hate Train of 2021, but that was the worst I've ever gotten by several magnitudes - the vast majority of commenters are fabulous.
9. do you write smut?
Not yet! It's not off the table, though.
10. do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you have written?
I actually don't think I've ever written a crossover! The closest I've ever gotten was when I look over my shoulder, but even that's 'Wangxian in a Conjuring-esque ghosthunters in love situation' and not really a formal Conjuring AU.
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
I've had plagiarism brought to my attention a couple times, but truly just a handful. I still remember getting a message on FF.net that someone had ripped off a line from my Black Lagoon fic. The SCANDAL of it all.
12. have you ever had a fic translated?
MDZS is the first fandom where I've gotten translation requests, which is always so cool! To my knowledge, I've had fics translated into Russian, Spanish, and Ukranian.
13. have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, but brainstorming fic concepts with my brilliant friends is one of my favorite thing in the world.
14. what's your all time favorite ship?
omg ever? Well Victuuri and Wangxian have been the ones that really lit my brain on fire (if I own the Nendos, it's serious) but let me also throw it back to Fakir and Ahiru in Princess Tutu. That is ROMANCE.
15. what is a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I would have really liked to have one more entry to 'the yunmeng accords!' I had a couple of ideas that I really liked, but nothing that caught fire quite enough to dive into it. That said, I am currently working on something short and Yunmeng Shuangjie-related, at the very least...
16. what are your writing strengths?
Emotional through-lines, pacing, and that sweet, sweet catharsis. I'm drawn to particular fandoms when they leave me with an emotion that I need to break down over the course of several thousand words, and I know that shows through in my writing.
17. what are your writing weaknesses?
Choreography! I'm not a very visual thinker, so sometimes it takes me a while just to figure out how to block the characters in a given scene. I also have a lot of trouble getting into a draft until I figure out the voice, which, when it comes to fanfic, will either come to me extremely easily or not at all.
18. thoughts of writing dialogue in another language in fics?
Yeah, absolutely! (But if you don't speak the language, do your research!)
19. first fandom you wrote for?
[rubs my temples] an X-Men crackfic.
20. favorite fic you have written?
Oh my god. WELL. 'grow' and 'the only way out' I think are the best fics I've written, and 'when I look over my shoulder' and 'the soft animal' are also extremely close to my heart. But 'detente' might be the favorite child. It just gushed out of me.
I think a great many of you have been tagged at this point, so sorry for any double-tags, but: @bluecrystalrainingdaggers @tigerjpg @floofyfluff @vinelark and anyone else who'd like to go for it!
