Shang-Chi x widow!reader

summary: Shaun sees a new game circling the internet and decides he HAS to challenge his girlfriend to a round.

warnings: violent play fighting, very brief mention/ joke about DV (no actual domestic violence!!), very brief mentions of Shang-Chi and Readers times as trained assassins, sex joke at the very end.

authors note: I have never written any sort of fight scene or action before so this is very new to me, but it had to be done. Also, I requested this idea to another creator here on tumblr before deciding I wanted to give it a go myself. If they write their own version, I’ll tag them so you can read that version as well!

You sigh, blowing a strand of hair out of your face. You roll off the edge of your bed, clicking your phone off in the process, and saunter down the hall toward the sound of his voice.

Shuan stood in the center of… what used to be your living room? Both recliners and your big green couch were pushed flush up against the walls. You could see your coffee table stacked on top of your dining table in the next room over. All your blankets and knick knacks were scattered throughout the space. On the bookshelf, counters, window sills - anywhere but where they belonged.

He was looking down at his phone with an amused smile on his face.

“Done some… redecorating, have we?”

He glanced up, excitement clear on his face. “I’ll put it all back later. Give me one of your socks.”

You stared at him. “Give you… one?”

He nodded, jutting his palm out. “Yeah.”

“… why.”

“I found this game, it looks super fun!” He said, walking over to where you stood. He held out his phone, which was playing a video of what looked to be a set of twins. Each girl wore one white sock. “The goal is to rip the other persons sock off and keep yours on!”

You watched the girls tickle, tackle, and wrestle each other until one emerged victorious, sweaty sock in hand.

“I don’t know Shaun, I’m not sure I wanna play a game where I have to free your dawgs.” You teased.

“Hey! My ‘dogs’ aren’t that bad. Yours on the other hand-“

“That’s the spirit!” He said, tossing his phone on the couch. “Now, give me a sock.”

“Fine.” You sigh, trying to seem unamused. In reality, you were rather excited to play. The game looked fun enough when the girls played, but a round between two ex- child assassins? Things were going to get interesting fast.

Shaun beams at you and slides the sock onto his own foot. He looks at you, then your remaining sock, and raises an eyebrow. “Are you wearing mismatched socks?”

“Do you want to play or not?”

He backs away, hands raised in a surrender motion. “My bad, my bad, I should know better than to question you.” He moves a good three feet in front of you and reaches out for a handshake. “May the best man win.”

You yank his hand forward and flip him over your shoulder, slamming him down hard onto the cushy carpet. You twist and dive, aiming for his pink striped sock, but he rolls away quickly, jumping to his feet.

“That’s totally not fair! We hadn’t started yet!”

“Sorry, I didn’t realize you made all your opponents wait for your mark before fighting.”

He scoffed. “I was trying to be civil with you.”

“Don’t.”

He kicked out with his bare foot, leaving the socked one on the ground. The impact set you back a bit, but you regained yourself before slamming into the TV.

“Watch the furniture!” He teased, diving down toward your feet.

You dove over him, rolling and landing on your feet far on the other side of the living room. You crossed your arms and tapped your socked foot impatiently. “Gee, I thought the great Shang-Chi would find this game tedious. Assumed you would’ve won by now.”

Shaun rolled his eyes before running toward you again. You attempted to jump out of the way, but he snagged you by the waist. He tackled you to the floor as carefully as he could. Sweet, but his mistake. He only held you with one arm, using the other to stop your fall, making it easy for you to wiggle out of his grip.

You rolled slightly to the left and knocked him face first into the carpet. You crawled toward his foot, forgetting to keep your own feet away from his hands. You yelped when you felt him grabbing at your ankles and started kicking violently. He managed to tug your sock a bit, but lost his grip quickly.

You yanked yourself away from his hands, curling your feet under yourself into a crouch position. Shaun wasted no time crawling toward you, laughing as he went. You scuttled backward but came to an abrupt stop when you slammed into the couch.

He was closing in. You didn’t have anywhere else to run, so you took the offensive route and thrust yourself forward, sending the two of you sprawling across the carpet. The force of you landing on him was unexpected and totally knocked the wind out of Shaun. While he laid there catching his breath, you swung around and reached for his sock.

Of course, he regained his breath too fast. He sat up and grabbed you, pinning your arms to your sides. “Not cool y/n.”

“I can be less cool.” you panted. He started to say something, but you thrust your arm back and elbowed him in the ribs. You snaked out of his grip and ran across the room yet again.

Shaun stood up slowly, rubbing his rib. “Come on!”

“Sorry baby.” You laughed. You stuck out your bottom lip in a teasing pout. “I’ll kiss it better after I win.”

“Oh no, I can’t let you win after this.” He chuckled.

But you had a plan.

…Hopefully, the TV wouldn’t pay the price.

You ran at your boyfriend, gathered at much momentum as you could, jumped up, and wrapped your legs around his neck. He stumbled, but managed to regain his balance.

“Aw dude!” His voice was muffled. “Can a guy get a warning before getting a crotch to the face?”

He started smacking his own back, desperately trying to grab at your sock. But ultimately he couldn’t reach your feet at the angle. You laugh and let yourself fall backward. You dangled yourself from his shoulders and looked through your eyebrows to locate which foot had the striped sock.

Honestly, there were a million ways Shaun could have escaped this position. But all of them would’ve been pretty painful for you, and you knew he would never actually hurt you for a game. Or anything, for that matter, but especially not a game. So he continued to reach and grab for your sock.

You reached down and tickled his right leg. He kicked out a little, as that was the last thing he expected from you. He stopped reaching for your sock and grabbed your thighs instead, trying to keep you from falling while he lost his balance.

You took the opportunity to snatch the sock off his foot.

“BOO!” Shaun complained.

“Whats that?? I can’t hear you over the sound of me WINNING!”

You reached your hands down to the floor and unhooked your legs from behind Shaun’s head, gracefully kicking down as if out of a handstand, and waved the sock around in victory.

Shaun stared at you. “I can’t believe you just black widowed me.”

You shrugged. “I can’t believe you talked such big game just to be taken out by a little tickle.”

“And a crotch to the face?”

“Whatever.” You rolled your eyes. “So… what do I win?”

A mischievous grin spread across your boyfriends face. “Who said you won? We gotta do best two out of three.”

“What? No! I won fair and square-“

Shaun ripped the sock out of your hands and took off down the hall. “BEST TWO OUT OF THREE!”

You padded into your bedroom with a glass of water and a handful of ibuprofen. Shaun was already under the covers, but you could see bruises sprouting up around his exposed upper body. You weren’t much better — you had a nasty spot right on your cheekbone, as well as littered all over your body.

“Hey,” you greeted gently, sitting on the edge of the bed.

He set his phone down and looked up at you with his beautiful brown eyes. “Hey.”

You took his hand and dumped a few ibuprofen into it. “Maybe we should play a little gentler next time.”

He smiled before popping the tablets into his mouth. ��Maybe.”

You passed him the water glass and he took a swig before passing it back to you. You took your own dose and set the glass on the nightstand. Shaun pulled the covers up for you to crawl under, to which you happily did, curling right up against him.

He ran his fingers over the forming bruise on your cheek. “Aw dude. Does it hurt?”

“I’ve had worse.”

“People are gunna think I hit you.”

“You kinda did.” You laugh.

“Not on purpose!” He defended. He moved his hand to cup your face before sending you a pointed stare. “You, on the other hand, had malicious intent.“

“And who won all three rounds?”

Shaun glared at you but couldn’t argue. He leaned forward and pressed a gentle kiss to the bruise. “Thanks for playing with me.” He said softly.

You reached up and rested your hand over his. “Anytime. Thanks for putting the couch back.”

He chuckled, closing his eyes. “Anytime.”

Headcanons for the early days of the deadly alliance

a second deadly alliance hc post has hit the hourglass......highly suggest u read my previous post about their past before reading this one!

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

shang tsung was surprised to see that damashi had found someone else to be apart of their scheme to take over the realms

he was a bit upset at first

does that mean i have to share the fruits of my labor? he thought to himself

quan chi, who was still kind of dazed by the whole stunt damashi pulled back in the mines, doesn't say much

he nods, quietly mumbles formalities and fumbles with his hands quite a lot

damashi tells shang they must work together in order to rule

shang was a bit baffled at the notion at first- the man before him who barely spoke and was covered in dirt and grime was supposed to help them somehow?

to which damashi gets a bit angry with shang, he explains the innate magic he possesses and his potential

"you would dare question me, shang tsung?"

immediately shuts down any protesting from him. damashi is his benefactor after all. surely he knows what's best for them

so fine. he'll try and work with the newcomer

the first few months did not go well AT ALL LMAO quan chi wasn't very talkative and he always practiced magic by himself

shang was always the one trying to initiate conversations and secretly observed the other sorcerer practicing

little did he know quan chi did the same

he's. still a bit nervous about approaching shang directly. since he was the later one to join and train under damashi's guidance he felt like his magic was subpar of shang's

he did appreciate the space shang gave him tho. he just needed some time by himself since now that he was out of the mines he was able to do whatever he wanted

day and night he would bury himself in books about all sorts of things, but he took a liking to architecture, biology and different kinds of magic- especially forbidden magic but he wasn't sure if he should be dabbling in that until damashi learnt about his interest in darker magic, that's when he started fully enabling him to practice netherrealm magic

it wasn't until sometime after that did quan chi ask shang for help for the first time

shang was more than happy to help to quan chi's surprise, he didn't think the other sorcerer would be as open as he would be atm

"it would benefit us to have a good relationship, quan chi. after all, any alliance that aids us with our plans is one worth having, is it not?"

he was glad that shang seemed to like him

he thought for the longest time just from first impressions that shang still disliked him, but they seem to be getting along well now

and this made quan chi willing to open up more to shang as well

happy days :)

the three of them were stationed at an abandoned outpost in a remote area, damashi would be the one helping them gather whatever they needed since he could shapeshift and he didn't want any of them to be under the rada

it wasn't anything fancy but they had what they needed

shang had a shitty little basement where he did his experiments, also where he kept syzoth in

quan chi didn't get to see the basement until shang decided to give him a tour. he had always wondered where shang was most of the time when it was mostly damashi who went outside

sure quan chi was shocked at first seeing all of shang's creations. but he wasn't one to judge

he knew shang came from awful conditions as well, they've both been mistreated by everyone around them so why couldn't they do the same?

plus the experiments intrigued him immensely

it was after shang showed him his basement did quan chi elaborately plan on building him a proper vivisection chamber

he wanted to show his gratitude somehow. along with damashi shang has also helped him a lot with practicing his magic

around the same time they had gotten insider info from damashi that the heir to the throne has tarkat

and with how skilled shang was at persuasion and sweet talking, they easily landed a place in outworld's court in no time with the promise of a suppressor/cure for the disease

they transferred their workspace to the laboratory that was provided to him, which was WAYY nicer than what they had before, just the look of it gave others a good impression of shang: a diligent scientist who was neat and efficient

with quan chi's architectural knowledge they built the vivisection chamber underneath the laboratory. shang planned out the whole facility and what he wanted to include while quan chi mainly did the construction since he was familiar with this kind of work, shang even created new specimens for a few extra hands

Do you have any headcannons about other characters’ reactions/feelings on Bishang? Like Liu Kang, or one of their allies? I feel like Shao and Quan Chi would be endlessly annoyed by Shang’s obvious favoritism towards Bi-Han.

General Shao: is just generally annoyed at everything and everyone all the time, so that goes double for Shang Tsung. He’s just too flamboyant and blasé, and ever since first setting his eyes on Bi-Han, he’s become insufferable about the man. He has no idea why, in the bloody pits of the neatherrealm, Shang Tsung needs a wholeass squirtle squad of Bi-Han clones. Shang claims they’re absolutely necessary and vital, but Shao has scarcely ever seen them sent out in battle, so what are they really being used for??

Liu Kang: totally not jealous because he's a god and above that sort of thing. Liu Kang had specific ideas for how Bi-Han’s life and fate should play out. But he should have known better than to send Bi-Han anywhere near Shang Tsung because these two historically cannot leave each other alone. He’s that one Shrek meme “Can you not talk about Bi-Han FOR FIVE MINUTES?” Considers going back to the mines just to be free of them.

Some MK1 headcanons

Multiverse (as in the characters that are your allies or you have to fight at the end, from different timelines)

I have had so many thoughts about what these guy’s timelines are like you have no idea-

-Kitana Khan and Jawspell (Kitana+General Shao and Mileena+Quan Chi fusions) are from the same timeline. Kitana overthrew her mother and she rules Outworld with an iron fist while Mileena, (who tried to use dark magic in an effort to cure herself of Tarkat) is the Royal mage and is her sister’s trusted advisor

-In Titan Kitana’s timeline, the umgadi doesn’t exist. Her version of Tanya is similar to MK10 Tanya, who wishes to separate Outworld from Edenia

-Johnny Savage (Johnny Cage+Baraka fusion) comes from a reality where tarkat spread to earth. He is the leader of his universe’s tarkatans, and despite his monstrous appearance, he’s actually pretty similar humor wise to Liu Kang’s Johnny Cage

-he is ultimately more angry and wishes to spread Tarkat, wanting people to suffer as he does

-in Firefly’s timeline (Li Mei+Scorpion fusion), she was instead claimed by the Lin kuei instead of the Umgadi and was taught pyromancy (instead of having it innately like Kuai Liang)

-Screen Demon (Ashrah+Johnny Cage fusion) and titan Kung Lao are from the same timeline. This version of Kung Lao helped Ashrah escape from Quan Chi’s control, but was ultimately powerless as she became consumed by the fame Hollywood brought her

-Titan Subzero’s version of Kuai Liang was murdered by Shang Tsung, causing him to fight his version of the sorcerer for the hour glass to become its keeper, ultimately killing him. He is horrified when he meets Liu Kang’s Kuai Liang, seeing his scar and learning that another version of himself was responsible

-Frostbite (Nitara+Subzero fusion) learned cryomancy in an effort to help defend her people

-lizard queen (Sindel+Reptile fusion) comes from a timeline where centuries ago, Zaterrans overthrew the Edenian lineage and took the crown for themselves, thus resulting in a Zaterran lineage ruling Outworld

-Quantom Chi (Geras+Quan Chi fusion) is from a reality where Geras rebelled against Liu Kang, tired of servitude. He learns dark magic and kills his version of Liu Kang

-the good versions of Shang Tsung and Quan Chi (those who fight evil Titan Shang Tsung and Titan Quan Chi)are also titans, but are also reformed as they both started out like their current MK1 counterparts

-if you picked Reiko in the final Armageddon sequence, it’s obviously not the current timeline’s Reiko. This version of Reiko comes from a timeline where he was raised by a version of Baraka who never got tarkat and is still a soldier. Therefore, he’s much more merciful but still a very deadly soldier

-Dark Thunder God Kung Lao (I think it’s Kung Lao? I couldn’t tell during the Armageddon sequence) comes from a timeline where he grew extremely jealous of his version of Raiden. Influenced by his timeline’s Quan chi, he kills his best friend and steals his amulet in his pursuit of power

-The Shao that aids Liu Kang in the end (the one that appears if you pick general Shao) comes from time line where he and Liu Kang have swapped places. A former Outworld soldier, he saw the beauty of earth and decided to protect it. Liu Kang, hungry for power, became a conquerer who shows no mercy

Bonus! Zaterrans!

-there are variations among their species that make them look like other sorts of reptiles in their regular forms, for example

-crocodile-like Zaterrans having longer, more v-shaped snouts, visible lower teeth, and a much slimmer build for moving through the water

-Zaterrans resembling thorny devils being a bit shorter than most other Zaterrans, but being able to defend themselves with their thorny spines and is able to project blood from their eyes

-Komodo dragon Zaterrans with longer tails and having a bite force and jaw strength that is stronger than most Zaterrans. Their jaws open extremely wide

-then for chameleon-like Zaterrans (such as Khameleon herself) , they have their crests, curly tails and independently mobile eyes in their reptile forms

-in their reptile forms, Zaterrans can survive EXTREMELY long periods without air in frozen water (or colder weather). (Some reptiles can go up to 3-4 months without air!) if their variation doesn’t permit this, than they can hunker down in safe places, slowing their metabolism and limiting their movement, waiting for the cold weather pass

-this is basically a process some snakes go through call brumation-in human or reptile form, Zaterrans commonly sleep with heated or weighted blankets, just on warm surfaces in general

-females are usually bigger than the males

-there’s really no “mix” of variations, as if a “regular” Zaterran would have children with a more crocodilian-like Zaterran, then those children would exclusively look like one parent in their reptile forms

MCU Characters During a Blackout

A/N: I don't know why Tumblr forced Labels on a few of these even though they had nothing but fluff but hopefully these are ok. What's the matter Tumblr? Too many hot characters for you?

Steve never wants you to be scared of a blackout. It's most likely just a power issue, if it was anything really bad he would have already gotten the call to action to stop it. Since there's nothing better for the two of you to do than wait for the power to come back why not cuddle up for a bit, he can tell you funny stories from his meetings and missions with his friends. He always wants to cuddle with you, to feel warm next to you instead of remembering the cold.

Bucky hopes you're not scared of the dark cause it looks like the powers gonna be out for a while. While it is he can light up some candles for the two of you, get the mood real romantic. For what you may ask? For all the kisses he's gonna give you today. You'll probably get tired of them by the time the power gets back but it's the price you'll just have to pay. It is a really hard task to do, so he'll need encouragement for a few hours.

Sam doesn't see much point in worrying about it. This could be a good opportunity for the two of you to talk more often. He misses you if he's being perfectly honest. He wants to talk to you when it's not just over the phone or late at night when he comes back. Both of you are usually pretty busy so now you can take it easy for a bit, no phone calls, no one to interrupt you. You can also get the occasional kiss if you really want, not like he could resist a cutie like you.

Loki takes this as a chance to tease the hell out of you. You can't escape his teasing when you can see him, let alone now. You feel kisses in the dark, his hands pulling you down onto him, then his whispers teasing you, making you all warm and hot under him. Alone in the dark, there are quite a few things you could do together, but it might be a bit clumsy, well for you at least, unless you memorized his body like he did yours.

Thor lifts you in his arms and carries you to bed. If there's a blackout there's really nothing for the two of you do other than bedroom activities. Sleeping of course. Get your mind out of the gutter for a bit. After you sleep you can tell him what you dreamt about and if it involved him in any special way. He always dreams about you, but he doesn't tell you all of the details. Perhaps now would be a good time to do so, but you first. And for that you got to sleep a bit.

Natasha promises to keep you safe until the power gets back on. She knows some people can get scared of the dark, especially when it's sudden like this. You have nothing to be scared of when you've got her by your side. Other than that her laptop still works and there are quite a few movies on there that you can pick from, maybe you can watch one to pass the time, or watch funny videos, something to take your mind off the darkness.

Stephen uses his magic to make balls of light that follow the two of you around when you walk so you don't run into anything and get hurt. He can heal you if it happens but it's better to prevent it. With his powers there's no blackout in his house really, but it's not fully lit up. It's almost like mood lighting when you really think about it. See, he can be romantic when he wants to be. Okay no, he didn't think about that part but it's a nice thought to have.

Peter makes you both a few cups of warm drinks to share while you wait for the power to come back on. Getting warm and cozy is the best thing to do now. The drinks are a little bit sweet, that way when you kiss the kisses will taste just a tiny lit sweeter then usual. He didn't plan that, honestly, but not that you said it yes, it's a very good benefit to have. He almost doesn't want the power to come back on, he's way too cozy with you against him.

Shang-Chi gives you his big hoodie so you're not cold while the power is still out. He knows you most likely wouldn't get sick but just knowing that you're wearing his clothes makes him happy. And if you get too warm he will be more than happy to take it off you as well. You know since there's a blackout he can't really do his usual training routine, but there are many other ways to work up a sweat. You can still wear his hoodie during it.

General Headcanons #4

Shang Tsung has two laboratories: one above ground where he experiments on souls and one below ground where he experiments on flesh.

Ermac was created when Shang Tsung (Deadceptmageddon and Between the Matches) or Quan Chi (Throughout the Eras) infused thousands of souls into a corpse buried in an unmarked grave.

Quan Chi has a collection of cursed artifacts he plans to hide in the mortal realms.

Shang Tsung and Quan Chi enjoy debating each other on the properties of souls.

Quan Chi plays the saxophone when he is sure nobody else is present.

Skarlet is able to survive entirely off of liquids, though she does enjoy the feeling of eating food.

Tanya's flexibility nearly rivals Havik's.

Rain is a very firm believer in "an eye for an eye".

Mileena has a small garden that she keeps hidden from the world.

[TWST AU]: An MC/Yuu who fights like Xu Shang-Chi

[Synopsis]: In this timeline, MC/Yuu was transported to Twisted Wonderland and uses their knowledge of material arts to survive through chaotic adventures.

[(A/N)]: I love Simu Liu and how he acted as Shang-Chi to show Asian representation in the Entertainment Industry.

The first time MC/Yuu came to Twisted Wonderland, they were in a middle of a battle against The Ten Rings clan.

MC/Yuu broke out of the coffin with their bare hands, shattering the lid into splinters and scaring poor Grim.

They were confused and still on defense mode then asked Grim who send him.

MC/Yuu: Who sent you? Wenwu?

Grim: Who-wu?

MC/Yuu: Never mind. *Sprints out of the room*

Grim: Hey! I need those clothes!

The chase still happens like in the canon storyline, but with some parkour stunts and losing Grim until later in the Library.

Crowley was almost knocked down while he came into scene, but you know you can’t sneak up on a former assassin.

MC/Yuu (plus Grim after he was captured by “The Whips of Love”) were dragged into the Dorm Sorting Ceremony and the same disaster happens.

MC/Yuu: *Witnessing a mess after under a minute* …This is crazier than seeing Morris the first time.

They brought Grim in as an emotional support buddy since their childhood wasn’t too good.

[Campus]

MC/Yuu: *Blocks an attack and knocks out the Savanaclaw student* I told you to stop, but you didn’t listen. I mean, what were you proving? Your large physique or that attitude?

Ace: Whoa! How did you do that?

MC/Yuu: I was trained to be an assassin in a clan called The Ten Rings. They’re not good people and last time I was with them, Wenwu was tracking down his son after he left.

[During Chapter 1]

Trey: Thanks for coming with me, MC/Yuu. I could use a set of hands.

MC/Yuu: No problem. If it saves Ace from being a “magicless student”, then he doesn’t have to complain about my living situation.

Trey: Yeah, it’s for the next Unbirthday Party. I just needs some over from that tree.

MC/Yuu: Okay. That sounds easy.

Trey: Careful, they have an outer shell covered in spikes. I provide some gloves-

MC/Yuu: *Kicks the tree which shook off some chestnuts* This enough for the tart?

Trey: *Surprised* Huh. They are enough.

[Back in the Heartslabyul kitchen]

MC/Yuu: Wenwu talked about some wannabe who was impersonating him as The Mandarin, the leader of the Ten Rings. Anyway, I found out he’s reintroduced to his career of becoming an actor.

Deuce: *Curious* When did that happened?

MC/Yuu: Oh, when Shang-Chi, Katy and I were looking for Xialing after she was imprisoned.

Deuce: Oh.

[During Chapter 2]

MC/Yuu: *Fighting against Overblot!Leona* Is this what you want?! *Pulls out replicates of the Ten Rings* You sore fighter!

Ace: Beat his ass, MC/Yuu!!!

Deuce: Careful, Prefect!

Jack: Don’t kill him!

MC/Yuu:

Overblot!Leona: *Falls back from the impact and spat out the Blot stone*

Everyone: OH!!!

Ruggie: Ya didn’t have to knock him unconscious!

MC/Yuu: I’m sorry! I’m still getting use to the rings.

Epel: What should we start with?

MC/Yuu: *Holds up a wooden board* Break it. Use whatever strength you possess and maybe we’ll start from there.

[Within a second, Epel breaks the board with his palm. Except he received 5 splinters.]

MC/Yuu: *Inhales with caution* Vil is gonna kill me.
