You awoke early the next morning. Much earlier than normal. The small clock sat on the desk beside your bed barely had its big hand brushing the four. There was little to no light outside. You pulled your hand to your face to rub some of the sleep out of your eyes.

The only sounds around you were the occasional soft snores from your roommates and a deep rumbling in your stomach. Shit. You must have fallen asleep last night without eating anything. You raised your arms above your head and coaxed a few cracks out of your spine before slipping out of bed. The green, fur-lined slippers lay right beside the head of your bed, waiting patiently for you to sleep your feet in.

You were no longer tired and didn’t feel like laying in bed until classes started, trying to urge yourself back to sleep. You figured you could catch up on some personal reading and have a mug of tea.

Beneath your bed, was a small wicker basket your mother had made for you on your eleventh birthday. It was intricately woven with two pastel ribbons secured on either handle. You loved it dearly and it had held many things as you grew up. At the moment, it held a large assortment of teas and a small kettle that you could hang over the fire in the common room. You knelt down and retrieved the items, deciding on a nice rose and lavender blend.

You gathered the things together, slipped the book you were currently reading into your arms, and made for the common room. At 4 o’clock in the morning, where the sun was not even up, you were expecting few students, if any, to be occupying the room. You were hoping for none.

The common room was always pleasantly splashed in moonlight around this time of the morning. Its cool rays showed through the water just outside the windows and bathed everything in the whiteness. Everything except for the warm fire in the middle of the room. You waltzed over to one of the plush couches, not seeing anyone else around—thank Merlin.

Wandlessly, you conjured some water, watching as it filled your small kettle. You hang it on the fireplace hanger and collapse into the couch, propping your book open. It had been over a day since you’d last read—some fiction about a knight’s journey dealing with the PTSD of his position—and you wondered if you even remembered what had happened the last few chapters. Your eyes found the small words on the page and let yourself fall into the story.

After a few minutes, the kettle began to whistle. You marked your place in the book and tossed it to the cushion beside you. You wanted to get the kettle off the flame before it started screaming and waking up the whole Slytherin house.

You wrapped your hands in your night robe and slipped the kettle away from the fire. With a whispered incantation, your favorite mug from under your bed appeared on the side table. You poured the steaming water into it and watched as the steam poured over the lip of the cup, its billowing moisture brushing against your bare legs.

Once you’d allowed the tea to steep and it had cooled, you became comfortable once again, leaning against the edge of the couch’s arm, sipping your tea every once in a while. It really was a good book. You’d almost found yourself forgetting about the ridiculous events of yesterday.

Until….you sigh. Out of the corner of your eye, a pair of legs appear coming down the stairs to the male dormitory, then a chest, then a face. A particularly difficult pair of eyes met yours. You all but groaned and rolled your eyes. You could not believe it.

“Hey,” he said, a small chuckle coming out of his mouth. It was awkward and the silence that followed it was somehow worse.

“Uh, hey?” You knew he was just talking to you now because he felt just as weird as you did—at least, that’s what you assumed. Before, he never went out of his way to acknowledge you, now…

No one spoke for at least a minute, the both of you just stared at one another, briefly found the other’s eyes, then quickly glanced away again.

“Well don’t let me interrupt you, I was just passing through,” he says, shoving his hands in the pockets of the plaid pajama pants he was wearing. Your eyes followed him as he began to walk towards one of the bookcases in the corner. He wore a black tank top that showed off his muscular arms beautifully. Your line of vision traced the thick vein that wrapped around his arm, curled down his wrist, and disappeared with his hands in his pants pocket. The pajama pants sat low on his waist and framed the sharp edge of his hip bones. You watched closely as he contemplated the options on the shelves before him.

His eyes caught something interesting. He raised up on his tip toes and lifted his arm to grab it. The tank top slid up his stomach, revealing the strong line of muscle that traveled from below his ribs and down to what lay beneath his waistband. The band of his undergarments traveled briefly over his hips. Fuck. He looked absolutely edible.

You shake that thought off and turn your head back to your book, forcing yourself to focus on the words before you. Surely, this was a normal feeling. It was just natural hormones forcing you to look for a mate. This was simply Mother Nature taking its course. Completely ordinary.

But Merlin, the way he had looked at you when he’d come down the stairs. His eyes, so dark and wanting, glancing over you in your too-big night robe and your ratty shorts. You felt like the most desirable thing in the world with the way he looked at you. Maybe you were just imagining it, but he looked as though he wanted to devour every inch of you.

Your fingers scraped over the book’s pages, letting the light scratch of the parchment control your thoughts. Intrusive ones that you indulged for just a moment before realizing what a weakness it was. Ones that gripped your hips and bit your chest and traced your thighs.

“Do you mind if I sit here?” His voice appeared behind you suddenly. You jumped at his abruptness.

“Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to—”

“It’s fine, Nott, take a seat wherever you’d like,” you sighed, trying once again to refocus yourself. But as he traveled over to the love seat at the far end of the rug probably no more than ten feet from you, you couldn’t help but glance up over the pages every so often.

You watched as he made himself comfortable, legs spread wide open with one ankle resting on the other knee, one hand against the arm of the chair propping his head up, the book balanced against his raised leg, and a strong arm coming up every once and a while to flip the page. As he launched himself further into the story, he began to fidget a bit. His thumb and forefinger pinching his bottom lip, the knot in his throat sliding up and down as he swallowed, his hips readjusting themselves, sliding them slowly against the cushion and—

You slammed your book shut. You couldn’t live like this. You were just going to force yourself back to bed. At the sudden sound, Theo’s eyes shot up in a worried glance.

“You okay?” he asked. You began to gather your things, tucking your now-cooled kettle under your arm. When he realized what you were doing, his book dropped to the cushion beside him and he stood abruptly. You stopped and the two of you watched each other, waiting for the other to speak. His eyes were slightly widened and he was breathing a bit heavier than usual. You watched as his chest rose and fell quickly. Neither one of you moved.

“You know I’m—” “I’m sorry if—”

You both began talking and stopped at the same time. Theo dropped his head and you glanced away, finding the stained glass windows particularly interesting.

“You go first,” he says. You sigh.

“I was just going to say that I’m going to go back to bed,” you explained, avoiding eye contact.

“Oh,” he says, sounding particularly dejected. Or maybe he didn’t. You couldn’t tell what you were and weren’t imagining the last few hours.

“What were you going to say?” you ask.

His eyes glanced around the room. His fists opened and closed, flexing the tendons that ran gracefully along his forearm.

“I was going to say I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable with the whole…,”

“Yeah, it’s fine,” you brush it off, “let’s not make it more than it is, okay?”

“No, yeah, I didn’t mean to,” he quickly says. “I just wanted to make sure you were okay.”

His eyes find yours and for a second you feel your heart liquefying, melting and rushing down your ribs, sliding across your stomach and legs. Your eyes hold and it feels as though neither of you can look away. You can hear your heart pounding in your ears and echoing against your back.

His lips open and close multiple times and the heavy breathing is back. His chest rising and falling, rising and falling. His honeyed lips pulsing with each breath. His eyes slipping down the length of your body but your vision is too shaky to even notice it. And when did you guys get closer to each other? His hand now rested delicately on the back of the couch you stood in front of. There was but an arm’s length between the two of you. You could just reach out and touch him…

“Yeah, uh…,” you interrupted, your eyes falling away from his. You broke the moment. “I’m fine. Thanks for checking in, Nott.” He chuckles.

“Do you even know my first name?” His eyes find yours once more. No, thank you. You finish gathering your things and begin to walk around the side of the couch.

“Um, I do but…you know, if we aren’t making this weird, I figure we just go back to the way we were. You not knowing I exist and me not caring that you do.” Yikes. Fucking harsh. You shake your head and start walking past him to the staircase.

His hand suddenly wraps around your arm, your skin stinging like he had electrocuted you. You jump and he pulls away quickly. He mumbles a quick apology. You brush it off swiftly. God, this was painful. You imagined your friends watching this play out and cringing so hard they passed out. Because you were on the verge of doing the same.

“Is that seriously what you think of me?” he asks, his eyebrows furrowed and eyes filled with concern. You sigh again.

“I’m sorry, that was rude, I shouldn’t have said that,” you apologize. “But before…this whole situation, we didn’t talk to each other. We went about our days, blissfully ignorant to one other.”

His eyes hit the ground. He knew it was true. The both of you knew that if this hadn’t happened, nothing would have changed between your relationship—or lack thereof.

“If you want to…you know, be friendly,” you start. His eyes raise to yours. “Come to the library with me or have lunch with me.” You felt pretty sure he wouldn’t. He had a reputation to uphold.

He and all of his friends were ‘well-known’ around Hogwarts. They were all handsome, smart, and hailing from very old, wealthy Wizarding families. Everybody liked them or wanted to be them and you knew that well. All cliches aside, you were a Half-Blood and probably none of their concern if not the subject of their bigotry.

“Okay.”

“Okay, what?”

“Okay, I will do those things with you,” he shrugs. “Give me a time and place.”

You were flabbergasted. And you were sure your face was showing it painfully well. You didn’t know what to say without sounding like a fool.

You wanted to say yes. God, how you wanted to say yes…Should you? Is it even worth all of the trouble? You know if anyone sees the two of you chatting it up at lunch, rumors will fly and you’re not so sure you’re comfortable being at the center of those. Yeah, no. You’re definitely not. Say no.

“Um…alright,” you breathe, smiling nervously. “I usually eat lunch by the Black Lake and read. I’ll be there today.” Merlin, help.

“Okay,” he says, smiling. “Well, don’t be reading while we’re eating lunch together.” You laugh.

“I won’t, as long as your conversation can keep my interest.”

“Oh, I’m pretty sure it can.” He sends a wink your way. Embarrassingly, a bit of heat blossoms in your stomach. This was ridiculous. You weren’t thirteen. You needed to get it together.

Zofie was sprawled out on Azriel's chest. Her tiny limbs were on either side of him. Even with her trying to hold onto the spymaster as if she were a little koala climbing the tree, the length of her arms and legs barely covered his ribcage. So she was left there, lying like a little sea star. Azriel's eyes were closed, but from the way he slowly ran his fingers through Zofie's hair, you could tell that he wasn't asleep. You couldn't help the little smile that spread across your face. Zofie hadn't slept through a single night when you finally got to see her. She was tossing and turning. Clinging onto any emotion she felt swirling around, not sure how to block out the overwhelming waves. But not with Azriel. The male seemed to be the only person able to make her busy head shut down.

When Rhys finally winnowed back to the house of wind late last night, Zofie was in his arms, rubbing her eyes tiredly. But the moment she saw Azriel leaning against the wall, she nearly left the high lord's shirt in scraps as she wiggled to get down, her tiny feet instantly darting towards him. The same way she had rushed towards him in his mother's house when he had come to see them. No one stopped her this time. Her eyes were full of tears midway through the distance she had to cross to reach him. "Azriel", Zofie had muttered so quietly, so wearily, as if a breath too hard might chase him away. "Hi, baby Z", Azriel muttered softly, "Come here, sweet girl". She launched into his chest with all of her force, clinging to his broad shoulders and nuzzling against his chest. His tiny, flickering star. So tired. So warn out. Azriel leaned down to kiss her head. The need to soothe the discomfort that she felt bubbling deep within him.

But Azriel's eyes had darted upwards. To the boy who stood there. Eyes cast down. As if he was hoping to be forgotten. As if he was prepared to be. Azriel reached out an arm toward him. Axel's emotions were a whole different story. The boy needed a male in his life. Someone who he could trust and look up to. "You hadn't gotten too big for hugs, huh?", the spymaster had joked. Axel's eyes glossed over with tears. "I'm sorry", the boy muttered, shaking his head, "I didn't mean to".

But Azriel only smiled his way, "If I had been in your shoes, I would have protected my sister the same way", Axel's hopeful eyes met his. "We tangled ourselves in a ball of misunderstanding. But you have nothing to be sorry for", and these words had been the undoing. The final straw that had sent Axel rushing into Azriel's arms as well. "I got so scared you would leave us just like everyone else did", the boy admitted through the hiccups, Azriel reached to cup the back of his head, bringing him closer to his eye level, "But I'm here, aren't I? I haven't left".

They had slept holding onto Azriel the whole night, and even now, with the morning sun high up in the sky, neither of them was stirring. You had slithered out of bed rather quickly. The bitter taste of your nightmare lingered. The guilt lingered. The guilt of potentially keeping the kids away from the man who was supposed to be their legal guardian. But your insecure heart played a big part in hurting them all. Hurting Azriel. Your mate... "You're thinking so hard, my brain might boil over", Azriel called out from the bed, making you turn your head to the side.

You tightened the blanket you had around your shoulders. "Are you going back today?", You chose to change the topic quickly. The longing you felt for this man was unmatched, but the claws from your past held you back. Swirling around your head, you painted images that weren't real. For the most part, at least. "I have a couple of meetings, but for the most part, I just want to be here", Azriel said. You felt his eyes on you. Watching you carefully. It was almost as if you were a wild animal. One that could start flailing around out of nowhere. "Maybe train with Axel, but I think that might have to wait", Azriel continued, trying to keep the conversation afloat.

"Wait... Why?", you muttered, turning around to face the male, lying in the bed that felt way too big when it was just you and the kids sprawled out in it. "Do you have a wrap?", the spymaster questioned. You frowned, "A wrap?", "Yeah, something I can snuggle Zofie in so she can continue sleeping". You blinked a couple of times. He wasn't serious, right? You misunderstood him. Had to. "Azriel...", your voice died down as you shook your head slightly. "This had drained her", Azriel stated firmly, running his hand up and down the girl's back. Her squished cheeks looked so sweet, with slightly parted lips and cheeks all rosy from the deep sleep.

You shook your head once more, "You can't go around wearing her against your chest". He was a spymaster of the night court. A predator. A scary male. Not a family man. At least not in front of the people in power. "Why not?", Azriel asked as if he quite literally didn't understand why this was making you confused. "To a meeting?", you questioned his choice once more, but he only shrugged, "She needs me; I rather know she's sleeping than wonder how much she can go on without a proper rest". Your heart swelled, beating just a tad stronger. You tilted your head slightly, watching them. Watching the way the two kids had melted again, Azriel, wondering if he knew just how much they loved him. How much you wanted him to take them away from the place they had to grow up in? You opened your mouth but closed it quickly.

"I have to go back to the sanctuary", you breathed out after a heartbeat. You didn't want to go. That was the last place you wanted to be, but you felt obligated to. "You don't have to", Azriel stated calmly. "I have duties", You laid down the well-learned lines. Making sure there was no way to detect a tremble in your voice. "You're off duty till that attack is taken care of", he was quick to remind you, and you knew. You knew, but... "I have...", you muttered, feeling your hands turning into fists beneath the blanket, the scabbing skin ripping beneath the bandages. Azriel let out a breath, taking a moment to let you breathe before saying, "You don't have to, but if you want to, I will take you".

It all felt so weird. Azriel was still waiting for someone to trip over an empty bottle and wake him up. Mirthroot to wear off and chase the illusions away. He had held you last night. Had even kissed you a couple of times. You were there. You had to be because he felt the warmth from your skin, and you felt so close. The bond had been singing quietly. Yes, the kissing died down quickly. Yes, all you had done for the most part was lay your head on his shoulder. Breathing. Pulling yourself together. And Azriel stood there. He stood there with his hands on your hips, like he always did. He felt the guilt. The way you questioned your choice of bring Elain into this, the way you felt jealous of her, the way it ate at you. Your self-esteem. So he stood there. Letting you be in the same space. Chasing the fear away. How much was going on in that head of yours? How much of it was still a mystery to him?

"You're listening?", Azriel blinked a couple of times, only to be met with Rhys looking at him with an annoyed expression. He was thinking too hard himself and stroking Zofie's hair had put Azriel in a trance of sorts. You had ripped the black sheets up just so you two could fasten the girl against the spymaster's chest. She hadn't stirred even once. If not for the raising of her chest, one could mistake her for being dead.

"She has raw magic running through her", Rhys stated, his own eyes fixed on the slumbering face. Azriel hummed. He had suspected that there was more to Zofie as well, by the handful of emotions she, not doubt without knowing, released into his system by touch alone. "Yeah, hence why she's sleeping", Azriel nodded. Making a mental note to find someone who could teach her how to control the gift that she had. But not now. Not everything at once.

"Come on, tell me about the camps", Azriel nodded towards the pile of papers that the three of them had been ignoring for the past hour. Catching up with his brothers was nice, but not what Azriel needed now. Rhysand swirled the whiskey in his glass, taking a slow sip. "It was a setup", the high lord breathed. Azriel growled at that, "Rhys, stop playing", that was as clear as day. It was planned. Anyone with a working brain cell could tell. The question was, why? And by whom?

"We found a couple of leads, but they are questionable", Cassian added, crossing his arms over his chest as he spoke. "Why would they target her? Because of her magic?", Azriel questioned. He had run through the list of logical reasons over and over again, and nothing else made sense. It had to be the magic. The fact that the sanctuary used your powers to lead their missions.

"Yes and no", Rhys breathed, his eyes falling on the painting of his mate that hung in his office. Azriel had found him staring at it more than once. Had made fun of it more than once. But now he knew better. Rhys found peace in it. He found peace in Feyre, and Azriel couldn't hold it against him. "They have unpaid debts with her. Well, that's what they believe", the high lord added. Azriel shook his head; if not for Zofie, who was snuggled against him, he would be hitting his firsts against the table by now, "Rhys, you're talking in riddles, and that's pissing me off". The high lord turned to meet his brother's eyes, "Has she told you how she ended up in the sanctuary?" No, and to be fair, Azriel had just naively believed that you loved the job, and it was simple like that. But with the importance that everyone has placed on your magic, it seemed to be a whole different story. Not to mention another thing that was making the territorial male within him stir as he said, "No, but I assume you do". It was clear from the way Rhys had looked at you that night on the balcony. There was more. Rhys, too, had played a part in your life. And Azriel knew that Rhys had sought someone out when the panic of losing Feyre had almost driven him to madness, but he never thought that it would have been you.

"You know I can't...", Rhys breathed, but Azriel was quick to cut him off, "Tell me one thing, then. Is this related to the thing that presumably chased her in the woods up the hill?", from the way the two males nearly pealed, Azriel knew the answer without words. "Chased her?", Rhys leaned forward, brows furrowed. "No one can get near the house of wind...", Rhys put a finger up to silence Cassian. Azriel held his high lord's gaze. A pang of almost jealousy pierced him. Rhys knew more than Azriel did. But until the moment you felt comfortable opening up, he would have to trust Rhys's knowledge and judgment. "Azriel. Who chased her?", so the spymaster told them everything that he knew and saw just the other night.

The place seemed colder. It was colder and much more suffocating as you walked through the white corridors. You could hear the kids singing from the main communal hall. The sound of their voices was the only thing soothing you now. You had become used to this place. You had sworn to never leave it. What was out there anyway? What did they have that you couldn't get here? The answer was Azriel. You knew that now. Your mind swirled around his warm hands. The comfort that washed over you when he was close. Then why were you so afraid to let yourself love him? To trust once more.

The clicking of Padme's quill pen filled the empty hallway. You hadn't even realized that you had once again returned to her office after finalizing the paperwork she had asked you to summarize for her. The high prestress didn't even lift her head as you stepped in, carefully lowering the folders on her desk.

"When will you be fit to go on another mission? The situation in the camps is unsettling", she said calmly, continuing to write. You stilled. For the first time in forever, your head started to scream—never, I'm not going back. I will never face them again. But you pushed the thoughts aside, "I can't summon; my hands haven't healed", you turned your still-bandaged palms in front of her. But Padme only let out a little chuckle, "Haven't you, or are you not letting them heal?", the priestess met your gaze. Piercing through your walls. You knew she would never buy it. You had healing magic running through your blood. This should have been healed the moment your body was free from iron. But you had prevented it from...

"The children must be returned to the sanctuary", the words made your blood freeze over, big eyes darting up to meet her, "Padme, don't do this". You were ready to beg. You would not let go of them. You would bear your cross, but the kids will not live a life of isolation just because of you. "They need to continue their education", Padme reached for another book, as if she wasn't having the most important conversation with you now. "They are learning alongside the high lord's son", you bit back, trying to contain your emotions but feeling your magic sizzling without your veins. "You are willing to break their hearts like that? What will happen when this pink mirage fades?", the high priestess stated bluntly, without a doubt not missing the way a shiver ran through your body.

"It won't", you breathed out. You were willing to do anything and give up everything if only Axel and Zofie could finally have the family they deserved. "You're sure?", Padme leaned across the table, watching your every move. Scanning you. Assessing you. "A sacrifice lamb and her two children", she breathed, almost in amazement. "You're not a princess, and he sure won't be your prince charming", Padme slapped the book shut, making a shiver run down your spine. Everything went dark for a moment before your knees hit the solid surface.

"Hold it steady, but don't tighten your grip on it", Azriel said in his soldier's tone. "That's you denying your own words", Axel grumbled, "How can you hold something steady but not have a firm grip on it". Azriel couldn't help but chuckle. He had forgotten the frustration one had to go through to learn the basics of fighting. Sure, he had trained with Feyre and then Nesta when she finally warmed up to the idea, but it would never be the same as teaching a child. A youngling. "If you hold it too firmly when you aim to throw", Azriel said, tightening the grip on his wooden knife's hilt, "It will affect the throw; it will be hard to hit the target". Azriel moved stepped forward. "But if you'll hold it loosely", the spymaster quickly knocked the weapon out of the boy's hands, "Your opponent will use that again."

Azriel had offered flying lessons, but Axel had denied them. "I want to learn to protect them", the boy muttered, "Actually protect them". And who was he to deny him? Azriel was already at the camp, learning the basics at a similar age. "That's just not fair", the boy grumbled, leaning forward to reach for the wooden knife, only for Azriel to flick it further away. "Hey!", Axel protested, making Azriel let out a chuckle. Even Zofie, who woke up not that long ago, giggled from the side of the training ground. You could barely see her beneath the layers Azriel had wrapped her up in. She had turned into a little floating head. But she was warm, and the chilly breeze would not nibble at her, that's all that Azriel cared about.

Azriel was ready to beat Axel to it once more until Zofie muttered, "Nyx said he'd teach me", the spymaster turned back quickly. "Pardon? Ow!", a light stab pierced through his left foot as Axel jabbed the wooden knife there, already running off laughing like a manic. "Why was Nyx talking to you about knives?", Azriel pulled his attention back to the little girl. An odd sense of protectiveness bubbled within him. Zofie shrugged her shoulders, "He just said that if I wanted to learn something, I could ask him". It was all innocent and sweet, but Azriel still shook his head. "Why don't you ask me first, yeah? Just to make sure", he cupped her crimson cheek. Under his dead body, will any boy teach his star anything? He'll have a word with Rhys about this. Nyx was way older too; he needed to understand the importance of suggestions like this. "Okay, little monsters, let's go inside before you both turn into ice cubes", he quickly scooped Zofie up, making the girl let out a chuckle, sending a handful of his shadows to drag a still-laughing Axel into the house as well.

When you yanked the doors of the house of wind open, you couldn't even identify the emotions that swirled within you. Padme had dumped down the slope of the mountain. You could see the house, but the walk there was quite steep. You had gritted your teeth. Had cursed her. But the scary thing was that you couldn't feel Azriel. It's like someone ripped the part that belonged just to him out. Leaving a big chunk of nothingness.

Azriel's head swirled towards the door, "What the hell are you doing here?", he was out of his seat almost immediately. You had agreed that he would come pick you up. You would pull at the bond, and he would be there in a heartbeat. He should have known that something was not right from just how silent the bond was. Too quiet. Too little emotions slipping by. No emotions.

"How did you get here?", Azriel quickly reached for you, looking you over. You just shook your head. You had no idea how Padme had done that, or was it even her in the first place? "I have not", you muttered, biting the inside of your cheek instantly. "You have, love", he said softly, and you couldn't help but let out a shaky breath in return. "No", you muttered. "Y/N", Azriel said a lot more firmly, and you didn't skip a beat, matching his tone, "Azriel". Your eyes fell on him. Watching him. Every little, tiny detail. A little scar ran over the side of his face. Faded and barely visible, but...

You quickly closed your eyes. "Tell me this is real", you breathed out, pulling away so you could press your aching palms into your eyes, "Tell me that you won't change your mind". Azriel reached for you, carefully touching for your wrists but pulling them away from your face only when he felt your palms sagging in his hands.

"Who's feeding you these thoughts, hm?", Azriel said softly, moving your arms around his torso so you would hold onto him. "Who's tarnishing every little spark of hope you have?", he breathed out, reaching for you himself so you two could be wrapped up in one another. "You don't understand", you said quietly, an angry tear running down your cheek. Azriel quickly reached to brush it away. Taking a heartbeat to breathe before saying, "I don't; you're right, there's a lot I don't know", he admitted, "But I want to, and if me knowing and it can help", Azriel said, moving his palm to cup your cheek, "Then I'm asking you to tell me because I can't watch you pick yourself apart, my love. Not when I might find a way to help". You let out a choked-out sob, tightening your grip around him. "I don't deserve you", you breathed, "You don't deserve this mess". Azriel shook his head, "Someone up above mated us. We're one. I want us to be one".

You took a shaky breath. This was the moment that could make or break it. Unleashing the darkest parts of yourself. Walking through the cold, bloody night. What if he ran away afterwards? What if his love wouldn't hold? But the warmth within your chest. One that blossomed so deeply within you, urged you to let go of the burden that ate at your soul. "Then it's better if I show you", you breathed out, knowing that if you staggered even for a moment longer, you would find a handful of reasons why you shouldn't do it.

Azriel frowned slightly, "Show me?" A cold pain pierced him, one that never meant any good. "If I'm the one thinking of the place when we winnow, will I be able to sway your magic?", you asked, already feeling your skin go clammy. "I mean, I can open my mental shields for you", Azriel stuttered, trying to understand what was happening. You nodded, "Then I'd like to show you something". Your eyes met his worried gaze, and all you could offer was a sad smile as you clasped his way bigger palms.

You knocked gently on Azriel's mental shields, and he welcomed you in without hesitation. You felt the cold swirl building up around you until all you saw and felt was the feeling of Azriel's hands. The coldness didn't give up, even when the mist faded away. Replaced by an icy wind that rippled both of your clothes. Dread ripped deep within your skin. You closed your eyes quickly, trying to steady your breathing.

"What is this place?", Azriel's voice cut through the roaring wind. You blinked a couple of times. Letting the broken, burnt-down houses, rotten fences, fallen clotheslines, and sheds with fallen roofs fill your senses. Looking at this now, you would never imagine it looking any different. A year or two, and the last bits of wood would fall in full. Nothing would be left here. Nothing but one thing. You stepped forward. Walking towards the center of the camp. Towards the cube-shaped cage, wines sprouting all over the bars now. You turned back to Azriel, catching his lost eyes, muttering "This is home".

11th house: our ideal friends and how we are percieved in social settings.

This post will talk about the type of relationships that you like to hang out with according to the planet or sign that falls in that house, since one of the themes of this house relates to friendships and what type of person you appear to be in social events or gatherings.

As always, take it with a grain of salt, I hope it resonates with any of you and please don't copy or repost this post without giving the proper credits to the owner.

Aries/Mars in the 11th house: you tend to attract people who are athletic, energetic, driven, enthusiast or, at the very least, you enjoy to hang up with people who have this kind of energy. On the downside, you could atract people who are agressive or violent. Intelligence is something that you value too because, just like the sign of Gemini, this sign is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication. You like to make people with whom you can talk about your day to day life, your work, your health and viceversa. You like to know the same things too. You don't mind to comment or recieve comments from others when you now that they are doing it to help you.Just be careful of not being affected by people who are overly critics and wants to look smarter and viceversa.

Libra/Venus in the 11th house: you like to be friends with people who are caring, loving and put the right balance between give and take. Treating others fairly and respectfully is a crucial element that your potential friends need to have because that is what you value the most. I mean, it's like, if one day I spend a lot of time giving you confort because you need, I will really like to think that you'll be there for me in case I go through something similar. Well, we are not perfect, so be carefull with cutting people off if they don't fit in this criteria unless they really step over your boundaries despite trying to make it clear what you don't tolerate. In social spaces, people see you as loving a fair to everyone.

Scorpio/Pluto in the 11th house: those who have this aspects, you tend to connect with a small group of friends, but when you do connect with someone, you do it with all your will. You defend and protect your friends with all your might and espect the same thing from them. If someone breaks your trust or confidence, you cut them from your life, even though that hurts and transforms you deeply. Only in a few cases there is a second chance but, despite this, they don't tend to be the same because they had breaked your values of intimacy, trust and respect in a relationship. On another view, you could have a transformative time while socializing (this can be both: good and bad), maybe it is easier for you to connect with people that went through traumas or transformative experiences through life. For others, you are someone who looks either intimidating or private in a social setting but, despite this, they can not ignore the fact that there is an inner power within you.

Sagittarius/Jupiter in the 11th house: these people tend to make friends with relative ease and tend to be popular due to their ability to uplift others through their light energy and sence of humor. Honestly, there have not limit in terms of who they want to be friends with. They can be friends with people that comes from different cultures, countries, religions or beliefs. They don't care much about these things in my opinion (unless the individual has strict rules/beliefs that alows them to only meet certain types of people), because they are naturally curious about the stories they have to tell. Despite this, a sence of humor and stories/knowledge is something that these natives value in friendships.

Capricorn/Saturn in the 11th house: these individuals tend to make friends with people who are either older than them or maturer. They don't socialize much due to circumstances or because they simply don't like it, specially with people of your generation. Be careful with that. And maybe that's because you were the younger sister/cousin and had to interact with much older people so, when the moment came to play with kids of your own age, you didn't know what to do or didn't understood why they were acting so immaturely. You may come across as someone serious/mature in their interaction or responsable and enjoy talking about the older generations, their experiences through life, and struggles.

Aquarius/Uranus in the 11th house: the natural sign and planet that rules this house. The type of people you like to hang up with are those who either share the same humanitarian nature as you or have a rebellious side that they are not afraid to show or they are seen as outcasts by other people. Your friends could belong to the groups such as the LGBT or the feminist movement, but it doesn't have to be. The most important thing is that you like to make connections with people that will accept the unique qualities that you posses, your rebellious side, your humanitarian nature without judgement. In a social gathering, people could see you as rebellious or as someone who brings a unique energy to the space that it's very magnetic if you use it well.

Pisces/Neptune in the 11th house: with Neptune or Pisces in this house, it is clear that you can connect easily with people who either share the same passion as you towards espirituality or are as imaginative as you or maybe they understand you on a soul level. With these aspects, it is possible that you are able to feel the energy or the emotions of the people with whom you spend time with. The downside of this, is that you could attract energetic vampires or people who have problems with drugs or alcohol. You could even hang out with them. Be careful with this, especially if you end up having problems with addictions. On a lighter note, if you had the last problem, this can give you a compassionate look towards people who went through hard process such as addictions and rehabilitation. In a social getting, you may look dreamy, mysterious, tired or ethereal to others.

So far I’m not really getting *you*, I feel nothing. Not in a bad way, but everything is about other people. Which is funny because I have a video I haven’t started yet about how a character’s transformation throughout a series is through his relationships, which I think is what you offer to others. It’s not a subconscious thing, it feels as if you actively seek to help people or point out issues within relationships or people so they can fix them. You value bonds and community and you like things to be even. However this isn’t just you so let’s dig a bit deeper.

Ah I was just thinking ‘they probably really need to feel comfortable’ just as Cancer flew out. Mmm you might have fourth house placements not necessarily Cancer ones, but it’s just more about being easily...frazzled? Oh you’re difficult to explain lol. It’s not that you’re easily frazzled because you can confront/spot these issues within others and it’s not simple things like ‘oh well did you talk to them’, it’s usually deep wounds that long conversations unearth. However at the same time you’re very simple and a bit introverted? With Pluto coming out in reverse, because I always take my oracles upright, it feels like struggling to deal with that energy on your own. However you have all of this glowing energy to welcome others so that they can be loved and comforted even though you can’t do that for yourself.

Solar! Oh, are you one of my cardinal siblings?! I would guess signs but whenever I pull this section they never match hehe, but I did guess maybe a Cancer Rising, however that doesn’t add up — I’m rambling. Understanding why I took Perfectionist, you sometimes present yourself as someone who needs to always seem okay. I don’t think it’s physically? It’s more like that Virgo cringe of being wrong or making mistakes or like. Existing, let’s be real lmao. However you are very open to new phases in your thinking or view of the world — which does remind me of when people do room makeovers. Changing their aesthetic for something else? It’s like you sometimes do that with who you are (forgiving of your core values). As I said, this section tends to be people’s view which can sometimes conflict with the first pull, but in this case it can match up because the Eleventh can speak to group integration and the Eighth can be constant transformation, just not in the way people seem to think.

Really the only thing to add is that you might be a bit restrictive with how you express/present yourself? As in you overthink or you feel like you’re not allowed to do certain things because you didn’t suffer enough for it? Unfortunately problems and emotions will always present themselves regardless of your status, you don’t have to be at a certain level to be frustrated, it’s okay. Also you feel a bit goofy, I hope you’re allowed to let that side out enough.

Oh? Well, as a side note the cards came out without issue, so there’s a feeling that you know yourself quite well. More than you might realize because I feel like you...there’s a feeling of you making adjustments for yourself without realizing. There’s a house opposition but it feels like it’s working well so far here. In tune with your body and soul, so when something feels off or you’re feeling sluggish, you make adjustments to one portion of your life and you’ll be feeling a bit better the next week. There’s also a pretty forward quality here about you, you don’t pretend to be anything you’re not and you’re down to earth. This first pull can also point to a healing quality about you — the dynamic of the 6th & 12th can usually have someone who ends up working for charities or having a natural ability to help others in some form underneath their daily routine.

I already had a feeling this pile was something else. I don’t know there is a very relaxed energy about your. Even while listening to your first song, it still felt more calm despite the meaning of the song? Considering these are Benefics and The Sun, it’s like you do your best to always look on the bright side of things. I mean yes this can point to overindulging and running away from issues, especially since we got the Twelfth, but I’m feeling more tranquil and like...happy. I’m not getting negativity. So it’s just minding your business and trying to live a peaceful life. Also lowkey spiritual/philosophical, always looking for more.

Not surprised by these cards. Due to your actual energy, you seem very harmonious and pleasant to be around. However looking at these songs I’m getting it’s clear that you’ve experienced connections/situations that weren’t so pleasant. As I mentioned before, you’re someone who prefers to live a happy life, you don’t want to stay in negative places. I keep being drawn into the hole on the Sun card. I’m getting nothing else, so I think right now there is some healing that needs to be done to the ego — or identity. To piece this together, it’s like someone is being too self-critical of who they are, and to solve this they need to implement self care because I also got that. That could just be parts of the personality but I’m getting. Nothing. Let me see.

Oh my god I can’t read any of this literally. Sag-Pisces makes me think of Jupiter influence, and could point to avoidance for this particular reason. It feels like being asked what to drink, not knowing what to choose so asking to try everything. Everything feels very flimsy, so either I have a lot of people within this pile or we just need to work on who we are at our core a bit longer which is just what happens in life. Cancer being in reversed is also important, because I never take my oracles that way unless they fly out as such. This signifies a lack of nurturing in some sort. Or the emotions are being pushed to the side. Ego can’t survive without emotion — it’s just a paper bag at that point. It feels more like trying to fit into another archetype or be someone that you’re not? Like following trends as an example. I’m pulling advice for you, one second.

Energy to Embrace: Whale, Oyster, Peacock

Yeah, you have to embrace your own qualities and put them back out into the world. All of these cards show that there has been some damage done, so I can understand that there is some insecurity or fear in doing that, but masking as someone else is not the answer and it’s causing more internal confusion/damage. I don’t think that’s your dominant personality, but as I said before there are times where people test you or think lowly of you and that’s when it comes out. Like ‘ah they’re too spineless to do that’ and then you do it to prove them wrong or just piss them off honestly. With the second house I don’t think it’s money that’s a concern, but more like that items that you have, or the clothes. It’s like how you’re seen and present yourself, which can be counted as valuables because they reflect you. Sagittarius and Uranus are both outspoken and well, you want to make sure you’re noticed sometimes.

warnings: dbf!joel, random date x reader, nothing graphic but sex on the first date, break-in, brief mention of animal death ig, caught in the act. wordcount: 1k a/n: i know it's just a quick lil drabble, and i used to write a lot if fanfics, but i never actually posted any of them, so this feels like a bigger deal than it is, help ♡ ps: not edited and barely skimmed through after writing!

"so... this is me," you gesture to the house you share with your dad, averting you date's eyes. it's been a great night, and you'd love to invite him in, but you can hear music from your dad's records playing, and the low rumbling of his friends' voices. you saw them before you left for your date, all of them complimenting your hair or your dress or your legs. except for Mr. Miller, your next door neighbor, who rarely says anything at all. he looked at you all the same, though.

"cute house," your date replies. you chuckle nervously. "it's my dad's. i'm staying with him for a while to save some money."

"you grew up here?" he carefully takes your hands.

"i did", you smile, as you finally meet his eyes. "back in my childhood bedroom."

"hot..." he whispers. you laugh.

letting go of his hands, you take a step back.

"my dad has guests... so... i'm sorry to end the night here." you give him a half smile. the butterflies from the nice evening turn to dread. you don't want the night to end, and you want nothing more than to take him to bed, but the potential humiliation of having to sneak him in past your dad and all of his friends stops you.

he takes a step forward and closes the distance between you.

"why does it have to end?" he whispers, taking your hands again. "we don't need to go inside."

you cock your head, unsure of what he means. it's late november, and while the texas climate usually is nothing to complain about, your short dress won't warm your legs after the sun has set, and you're not too keen on getting arrested for indecent exposure either. not tonight, anyway.

a roar of laughter escapes from your house, and you can see your dad's silhouette in the window. next to him, Joel Miller takes a long sip of what's probably his eleventh beer of the night. you've seen him drink alone on his porch, you can't imagine how many units the awkward man goes through in a social situation.

Joel Miller... you look over to his house. his porch lights are on, but the rest of the house is dark. obviously, he's in your house. which means... his is empty...

an idea.

"we don't need to go inside... my house." you whisper back, meeting your date's hungry gaze. he lifts his eyebrows, intrigued, and you lead him away from your house, towards your neighbor's.

your neighbor used to have a cat. you know because you used to feed it. the first time your dad asked if you could pop over once a day while Miller was away you thought it was a joke, because grumpy Mr. Miller didn't strike you as a cat person. even after the cat was hit by Mrs. Adler's car last year he didn't seem like much of a cat person, burying it in his backyard without shedding as much as a tear.

knowing him, though, he still keeps his spare key in the same place.

and with a triumphant look to your date, you pull a key out from under his mat. "ka-ching," you wink. he looks around. "you sure?" he asks, swallowing harshly, as you swing the door open. instead of answering, you grab him by his shirt collar, and pull him inside.

Joel Miller's bedroom is cold, colder than you expected, the blue walls making it feel even colder, and taking off your clothes is not tempting. but given that your dress is already halfway over your head, you go for the skin-to-skin way of warming up instead.

the two of you quickly shimmy under Joel's covers, and a streak of excitement not coming from your date moves down your spine as you inhale the scent from the pillows, and for a brief second imagine what it would be like to share this bed with its owner instead.

while your date is in the bathroom, you let yourself float back into the unexpected fantasy that had hit you. you couldn't deny you hadn't thought about it before. Joel Miller was, for lack for a better word, a DILF. but given his status as your dad's best friend, and your 20 something year age gap, you'd never let yourself dwell on the though too much.

you bury your head in the pillows, inhaling the scent once again, and hear the floorboards creek. expecting it to be your date coming to slip silently back into bed with you, the deep grumble of your neighbor's voice makes you gasp.

“is there a reason you’re naked in my bed?”

you flip around, instinctively covering your chest with the blankets.

"mr. miller!" you squeak. "oh my god, miller, i'm so sorry, i--" you stutter as you try to come up with an excuse for the situation.

only a second passes before the toilet flushes, and Joel looks towards the bathroom, before looking back to you, brows raised. "and you have company?"

your date freezes in the doorway, hands shooting down to cover himself. "oh--" he begins, not sure how to continue.

Joel bends down to pick up the young man's shirt from the floor, tossing it at him. he catches it awkwardly, and quickly scrambles to pick up the rest of his clothes. you send him an apologetic look.

"you can go," Joel states, clearly to your date, but he's looking at you. "we'll talk once you're dressed." he throws your panties at you, and walks past the naked man into the hallway, shooting you another glance through the door before you hear him disappear downstairs.

after quickly apologizing to the guy who will surely be calling you "the worst date of his life" from now on, and sending him on his way (no numbers exchanged), you patter down the stairs, hoping Mr. Miller has somehow forgotten the whole thing.

he hasn't. he's sitting at the kitchen island with a beer. your eyes meet, and you look away quickly, not sure where to rest your gaze.

"want one?" Joel holds up his drink and nods towards the fridge.

"i should go, my dad--" you don't finish your sentence, as you turn to leave.

"wait." he calls after you. you stop, not turning around. "your dress."

you sigh. "thanks, it's vintage."

as you're about to keep walking, he calls again.

"it's tucked into your panties."

oh. my. god. oh my god. you quickly untuck it, throwing him a quick glance over your shoulder as you jog towards the door.

you can swear he was smirking.
