Over this past week I have learned the sad news about the death of Nex Benedict, a 16-year-old, highschool student in Owasso, Oklahoma.
Nex identified as non-binary and was attacked by upper class girls the day before they died. It was reported by Nex's grandmother that they were the victim of bullying at their school for at least a year.
It isn't known whether the school or administration ever intervened for Nex. It doesn't seem like it. Currently it appears like the school and district are more concerned with "damage control" of their image.
I am angered by this news. Nex was a kid, just like their peers. But political rhetoric, fear, and hate poisoned the environment that Nex had to attend five days of the week.
Schools are places of learning, not places of indoctrination and norm policing. When people are this age we are all learning and forming our identities in life whether it's more complex than someone else's or not. We are all in a stage of formation and discovery.
Nex was not given that. Nex had that taken from them and told that they couldn't discover and be who they felt they truly were. Nex was harmed because of other people's irrational and unfounded fears.
And there is too much silence. Too much hiding. Too much cover-up now that they're gone. Everyone involved knows they've done wrong and they're panicking. They know. There needs to be accountability.
Nex was not protected. Nex was not allowed to be the person they wanted to be. Nex was not able to attend school without fear. Nex was prevented from living their full life.
This was cruel and hateful. Unacceptable.
Preventable.

I don't usually do politics but I feel like some people are too stupid to realize.
if you "don't take a side", you are complacent in genocide. you are the bystander effect. you are the privileged first worlder turning a blind eye to bombed families and torture-ridden childhoods and mothers wailing, crying, praying, covered in the blood of their children, for somebody, anybody, to give a single fuck about the hell they're surviving. you're Just Not Worried About genocide, and that's repulsive.
if you stand with Israel for any reason, whether you're "anti terrorism", "fighting anti semitism", or with any other poorly concealed propaganda bred opinion on the weight of your actions, you are the problem. you are the Germans during WWII blindly agreeing with who they've been told was the bad guy, and who they've been told was suffering. you are the civilian backers keeping funds flowing into these lying, deceitful, greedy and murderous people. you are the racist scum of the earth, cheering on the side who have, many many times already, declared the civilian casualties of Gaza to be "animal people". you have decided that the massive amount of civilian death, intentional or not in your eyes, is worth getting rid of these "terrorists" you've been told to fear.
in a matter of years, you'll be the monster. you'll look back on yourselves and think wow. I could've done something. I could've held my tongue. I could've cared a little bit, spread the message, signed a petition, reblogged a post, anything, just the littlest thing, to stop this. people will look back on this and see a genocide. a genocide of innocent people ethnically and racially deemed by propaganda to be Animal People, and terrorists. you will be partly responsible for the murder and torture of children.
and you'll hate yourself.
and in the name of all that is holy in this world, I hope you do.
I hope you people can't stand yourselves and the association with genocide that you've built for yourselves.
you don't get off scot-free just because all you've done is discourse online. You Are Killing People.

I'm trying not to feel very depressed about current political state in Texas. But it would be helpful if people's first reaction to "Texas GOP wants to secede" is not "good let them go."
Just this last week I was seeing a lot of conversation about how British people shouldnt be making fun of Americans because it's basically punching down, when most of the citizens are basically being held hostage by gerrymandering and voter suppression. But when Texas GOP presents a clear threat to the millions of people who live here in Texas who dont fall within the white protestant heteronormative standard, we're being told by other Americans, you deserve to get fucked.
As much as I want to just pack up and leave and hope my family follows me somewhere safer because I know that's the smarter decision? I have a community here. A diverse community of people from different religions, races, ethnicities, queer identities. We are voting blue. We are here fighting. Because some people just don't have the luxury to leave no matter how bad it gets. Derision isn't helpful right now. There are way too many things to care about all at once, so I'm not asking people to care, just that they stop writing us off.
If you are here and are afraid too, just know, you aren't alone. We're not giving up yet.

love it when the business/hospitality course I'm being forced to study is not only elitist, ableist, and super capitalistic and corporate, but also forces us to watch mildly racist and sexist youtube videos from over a decade ago to uphold arbitrary social norms that everyone agrees is cringe
nobody cares how you shake someone's hands or how you keep a business card. Literally nobody. Just don't be blatantly a jerk lmfao

not nearly enough people are fuming about the cass review. do you understand the eventual implications? trans people in the uk will be considered children up until the age of 25, and denied HRT/surgery/even basic measures like legal name change and social transition. all owing to a biased and largely unscientific study. you know what “treatment” for gender dysphoria is recommended by the review instead? conversion therapy.
this will kill people and they know it, because they prefer us dead and out of sight. the government, the NHS and even the opposition have made this clear again and again. a twenty-five year old can have sex, get married have children, join the military, earn a living, be halfway up the corporate ladder or highly successful in their chosen career field by that age, but they can’t transition under NHS rules. this is a death sentence for trans teenagers and they are going ahead with it. it’s trans genocide, same as across the pond.
i’m so afraid for my trans siblings and our futures. i’m so scared for myself. what are we to do if not even the party that is supposed to be on the “left” gives a shit about our safety and mental health as long as they get voted in? labour have become tories with a red coat of paint. it all feels hopeless

There is an irony to US Republicans beating their chests and shouting about how much they hate big government interference and that their individual constitutional rights - the most sacred thing on this earth short of their religion - are under constant threat.
They then use this same government that they claim is oppressing them, to bludgeon, coral, control, other, villaonize, criminalize, and police those who they deem as undesirable. As competition. As threats.
They claim victimization by a system while weaponizing and using that very same system to victimize others.
It's utterly ironic. Horridly privileged. And is a pattern that has been cut and sewn across history many times with deadly aftereffects.
People who try to convince you that you are being harmed or threatened in a literal (or figurative) way are fear mongers and sewers of hate. They want to convince you that life as you know it is under threat and that the only way to prevent it is at the low low cost of removing others.
Fear the other. They're stealing your jobs. They're causing a rise in crime. They murder their own babies. They don't respect the sanctity of marriage. They don't think like us. They don't act like us. They don't look like us. Because they are not us. They are other and therefore it is ok for us to treat them as "other". We have stripped them down and shown you all the ways in which they will hurt you. Hurt us. They are other. They are against us.
This is the mentality.

Bodily autonomy is not just about abled people choosing not to have a baby, it's also about respecting disabled people's right to have one. And it's not just about mentally ill people's right to treatment and meds, but also about their right to refuse both. It's about respecting people's right to choose for themselves, even when you disagree with their choices. Real bodily autonomy includes the right to make a choice that YOU wouldn't make or advocate for

Some messages left by queer Palestinians who face annihilation by the Israeli government in their retaliation against Hamas. The Israeli government has dropped thousand of bombs, leveled streets, cut off water, gas, and electricity, bombed hospitals, ambulances, mandated evacuation and then bomb evacuees. Innocent people are dying in the mass.
There is no need for this government to employ these acts of collective punishment. The same logic that is used to condemn the acts of Hamas, should be used to condemn the actions of the Israeli government. No one deserves to slaughtered and dehumanized.
And keep in mind, that this terror is not unusual for the Palestinian people, and this is another horrific event in a decades long oppression and apartheid.
