#which introduces fascinating new problems

So Watcher is launching a Dropout (it's not called Dropout but they're clearly using the same template format platform thing idk what it's called, and the same pricing structure), and the reaction so far has been wildly different than what I remember from Dropout's launch. I was curious about why that was or if I was just misremembering the Dropout launch, so I went back to the Dropout launch video to compare them and I think I can see where some of the difference is coming from.

I wanna clarify first though that this isn't a knock against Watcher or the fans who are reacting one way or another or anything like that, I genuinely am just fascinated with how different the reactions are to what seems to be the same business decision. This also isn't a 'wow watcher sucks and dropout is so much better' I'm just using them for comparison because they did the same thing with different results. ALSO this isn't about the business decision itself, just the presentation! Disclaimers out of the way, here's the analysis.

Title and Thumbnail So the Watcher.tv announcement video is titled "Goodbye Youtube" and the thumbnail is Ryan, Shane, and Steven sitting on a couch looking serious, with a dark background. That really makes it seem like they're quitting (which, ok, they are quitting youtube but not quitting quitting). Viewers are already primed to be upset, and it's easier to go from upset to angry than upset to excited, curious, or neutral.

Compare to the dropout announcement video: "How the Internet is Ruining Comedy" - inline with other collegehumor video titles, might make you curious. Thumbnail - Big News! with Sam smiling and a bright background. We know its big news, but he looks happy, and the exclamation point let's us know they want us to be excited. Viewers are primed to be curious and excited.

Tone The Watcher announcement has 2 main tones. The first half is very sentimental, almost sad or wistful at times, and while there are parts that veer into pride at achievements, it's mostly bittersweet and sentimental. The second half is a bit more uplifting, but still quite serious. It reminded me of a tech announcement, like when they introduce the new iphone or something like that. Very professional, sleek, and serious, which isn't automatically a bad thing! But I do think that's not the vibe a decently-sized chunk of the audience expected or wanted. Many people watch Watcher for the cast's dynamic with each other, humor, and the more relaxed/conversational/friendly feel that most of the series have.

Compare to dropout - excited and comedic tone. Still professional, but also fits the expectations of the viewers. People watch collegehumor for the humor (it was in the name, after all). They also poke a bit of fun at themselves, which lightens the mood, shows self-awareness, and alleviates some of the bad feelings about paywalling.

Focus The Watcher announcement focuses a lot on the creative journey of the cast and company, as well as how this move will benefit them. Which isn't a bad thing, that's actually quite interesting! The problem here, I think, is actually more about what isn't here - a solid explanation of how this will also benefit the viewers and why the viewers should be excited. There's a brief description of one new show, and the promise that existing shows will get an upgrade, but we weren't given many specific details about how they'll be improved, and there's only one new show to tempt us into subscribing. Some people will be excited for that, some people won't, and some people will be excited but not enough to subscribe. Having 2 or 3 series (even if it's 1 fleshed out plus a few teasers of what's in production or what is being planned) plus some more details about how existing shows will be improved would've helped. Without that, it really does seem like it'll just be the same stuff viewers were getting for free, but now paywalled, rather than new and exciting stuff. That makes a big difference. I think with the fans not getting as much focus, this also led to some (accidental, I hope) hurt feelings. Based on what I've seen from fan reactions, all the talk about hitting the peak of what they can do on youtube and wanting more, translated for many people to 'youtube isn't enough' which became 'you (the current viewers) aren't enough.' Which I don't think was their intent! But I also don't think fans are wrong for feeling hurt by that.

Compare to dropout: They clearly explain how the move will benefit fans, and reassure viewers that existing content will stay where it is, and only new content will be behind the paywall. (Watcher clarified this too, but in a comment. It's not in the video itself, which is a huge problem.) They include clips of several new (at the time) series that would be premiering on dropout, including things that specifically could not be made on youtube (due to weed, violence, and sexual humor), so the reason for the shift is clear to the audience.

Advertisers Both videos contain the sentiment that being monetarily successful on youtube means working to appease the advertisers, and that over time what the advertisers want and what the creators want drifts further and further apart, putting strain on the creators.

However, I think the message gets lost a bit in the Watcher vid. Instead, it leaves viewers with the idea that the main problem is just ads are annoying instead of advertisers putting constraints on content. I'm not even sure what the specific constraints are for watcher, because they didn't give any examples. And the focus on ads being annoying leaves viewers frustrated because people typically either don't mind ads or they already have an ad blocker.

Timing and Size Okay, this isn't exactly about presentation, but it is still a factor that impacts perception so I'm tackling it. And I'm actually going to do dropout first. CollegeHumor launched dropout in September 2018. Pre-pandemic, but also pre-Sam Reich as CEO. The company was still owned by IAC. It was a Company, and while it wasn't huge it wasn't tiny either. So launching dropout was a Company Decision, a Business Strategy. Some people were upset about, but it wasn't a personal betrayal (generally, anyways). If I remember correctly, this was also not a high point for the company. They kinda needed dropout to do well to keep things running smoothly (which is why they shut it down and sold it to Sam just 1 1/2ish years later), so the sudden shift made sense.

Watcher Entertainment is a company, but it doesn't feel like one. Ryan, Shane, and Steven own and operate things, but they're also the faces, and they're youtubers. Which makes every business decision they make feel more personal to viewers, especially those who have been watching for a long time. They've also seemingly been doing well on youtube, which makes it more difficult for viewers to understand why the sudden change is happening now. They do talk a bit about it, about the company expanding and wanting to do things that advertisers don't like (which I've already covered). However, mostly the choice to start a streaming platform is framed as 'the next big step' without much clarification on why it's the next big step. Plus, it's post-pandemic, and a lot of people are still struggling financially with the ripple effects of that. Yes, $6 isn't a wild amount of money, but there have been some months where $5 absolutely meant the difference between paying all my bills or not, and I know I'm not the only one. This, coupled with a lack of clarity about why exactly they're doing this, leads to fans feeling hurt, betrayed, bitter, and frustrated.

Now, presentation and framing isn't everything. No matter how perfect your announcement is, some people are still going to be upset. It's a big change, of course people will be upset! But I do think a more careful presentation would've alleviated some of the hurt and anger that fans are feeling. While I do think a lot of the reaction we're seeing is due to the decision, I think (based on what I've seen) that some of it is also based on the poor communication in the video itself, and that could've been avoided!

So I'm gonna get a little speculative and describe what I would've done. In this hypothetical, they've decided to launch the streaming service and brought me on just for the announcement.

Firstly, switch the title out. If they're married to Goodbye Youtube then add a (and hello...?) after so it's at least obvious they aren't fully quitting. The dark color scheme of the thumbnail fits their regular vibe, but they want everyone to be excited so they should look excited. Next, let's lighten the tone up. Being proud of what they've done so far is great, but we don't need the sentimental music and bittersweetness. Remember, the goal is to get viewers excited about what come's next - so let's focus on what actually comes next! Talk about specific show plans and mention why they wouldn't work on youtube. Then, take some time to reassure the fans. Predict a few likely worries and address them in the video. Acknowledge that it's a big change, that it will take time to get used to, and that not everyone will be onboard, and let the fans know that it's ok if they aren't onboard.

Like I said, this wouldn't fix everything. There are a few differences in between dropout and watcher that don't have anything to do with presentation. Dropout launched with primarily new shows rather than new seasons of existing shows, and they continued uploading to youtube relatively regularly in addition to the content behind the paywall, which I do think went a long way to keeping fans happy. At this point it's unclear if watcher will do either of those or not. But, while I don't think it would fix everything, I do think improved communication in the announcement would've helped.

He first saw you in town. He was with Sebastian to take some things and investigate a new case given by the queen. But the care was totally forgotten when he saw you. You were the most beautiful person he has ever seen. He knew that you are from an aristocratic family from your clothes and your maid but didn't know which one.

So he puts Sebastian to do some research on you and he learns that you were Elisabeth's cousin. He couldn't believe it. Even more when he first talked to you at Elisabeth's birthday party. You were just so calm and welcoming that he felt safe in your presence. Your quiet but clear voice made him feel like he could tell you everything and you wouldn't judge him.

And because of that he broke the engagement with Lizzy and started to court you. Elizabeth's mother was a bit mad but couldn't stop Ciel because he loves him as her own son and he deserves to have happy memories.

So you two start to date after some time whit a new engagement made between Ciel's family and your's. He started to call you often at his mansion and talk to you. He could've sworn that you were an angel from heaven when you first comforted him after he had a nightmare and you stayed at his mansion overnight. You were so gentle with him like he was made of glass and would break at the slightest touch. It was such a different feeling that he felt he doesn't deserve it.

All this time he thought that the only thing that counts is to revenge his family and to reestablish his family name but now he starts to doubt it. The only thing that he can think of is that he doesn't want to lose you ever like he lost everyone else. He will protect you whit his life and will make sure that you are always comfortable.

God forgive anyone that hurts or embarrasses you because Sebastian will take care of him.

Ciel would often come to you to talk about what is bothering him and would be grateful for who you are that he sends you different dresses and jewelry that he knows will look good on you.

Alois Trancy

He saw you in a museum in the art section. He couldn't believe how much you looked alike whit a portrait of a very beautiful women that lived over 200 years ago. He couldn't take his eyes of you so he made a move. He came to you and introduced himself in the hope that you will see him as fascinating as he sees you. And you did. You introduced yourself and engaged in a conversation whit Alois.

Your voice and your looks made him not want to leave you alone at all. He feelt like he is talking to an angel who came to safe him. He learned that you are the grand grand granddaughter of the woman in the painting and that she was one of the most beautiful women that lived in that time and that you are happy that you could resemble her.

He started to court you and made the engagement whit your parents. He asks Hannah some things that you would like and if you don't he will punish her severely.

He will eventually tell you everything about his past and about Claude. He feels so safe with you that he couldn't bring himself to hide it. And the moment when you just tell him that it doesn't matter, it doesn't define him he swore he could die right then and there as a happy boy.

He would tell Claude to protect you and to kill anyone who comes too close to you whit bad intentions.

He would be very clingy. He doesn't like being away from you. He feels like you are his lifeline and can't leave you.

Do you remember the time when Alois was on his knees in front of Claude to prevent him of leaving? He would do that when you wanted to go have some tea time whit another girl. (What can I say he has abandonament issues.)

He feels that he is the luckiest boy on the planet because he can have such a beautiful and calm lover who sees him for who he is and not for his money.

BnHA Chapter 407: Wait Why Are You Running Away

Previously on BnHA: Kacchan figured out how to control his quirk upgrade and was totally chill and normal about it. Definitely not terrifying at all. He actually spent the entire chapter smiling and laughing like the wholesome little boy he is. I don’t know why Kid For One is so freaked out about it. He even politely introduced himself using his childhood nickname. Clearly he just wants to be friends with you, KFO!

Today on BnHA: Horikoshi is all “sorry to keep you waiting, here’s the AFO and Yoichi flashback you ordered at long last” and proceeds to serve a nightmarish stew of HUMAN MISERY and RATS and STABBING and CARNAGE and SO MUCH MURDER and THE SINGLE MOST FUCKED-UP CASE OF CODEPENDENCY ANYONE HAS EVER WRITTEN. I was not even remotely prepared for any of this, and if anyone else claims that they were, I will call you a liar to your face. If this chapter had a mouth it would scream. anyway so eventually it occurred to everyone that they should maybe freaking study this shit, idk. and eventually the researchers concluded that the superpowers came from a new gene that apparently isn’t human. and upon hearing that, society apparently lost its freaking mind. which is fascinating to me because it implies that the turning point wasn’t actually the superpowers themselves, but the realization of what it meant

like, so they were apparently fine with it when they thought it was a “mysterious disease”, but somehow it hit different when they learned it wasn’t actually a sickness at all, but instead the Next Step in Evolution. and it became an “us vs them” thing, as opposed to a “we have to cure these poor people” thing. damn

anyway so now Japan is a dystopia and we’re cutting to a big crowd of merc-looking dudes who are getting ready to attack some “meta freaks”, how lovely

small and weak, but also so, so cute. all of the cuteness genes went straight to him. no wonder AFO was jealous

(ETA: just want to press pause for a second to speculate about what type of twins AFO and Yoichi are, since it has some relevance to the story, and especially to the OFA/AFO quirk lore. so! at first glance the two of them would appear to be fraternal twins, just based on the fact that they have very different appearances, and also the fact that Yoichi doesn’t have the AFO quirk – no holes in his hands, etc. identical twins are born from the same fertilized egg, so in theory they would both have the same sequence of DNA, which means Yoichi would have had the same quirk as AFO. but that doesn’t appear to be the case. so all of that points to them being fraternal, not identical.

on the other hand, there is one piece of evidence in this chapter that does support them being identical twins, and that’s the fact that per the narration, AFO absorbed most of the nutrients from their mother. a few minutes of google fu informed me that this condition is relatively rare, and only happens in cases where two twins share a placenta, which typically is only the case for identical twins. HOWEVER, for what it’s worth, there have also been rare instances where two fraternal twin placentas fuse together and become a single placenta. AND this apparently also increases the chances of one of the twins gaining more of the nutrients and causing the other twin to have a lower birth weight.

so based on the evidence here, my conclusion is that the two of them are most likely fraternal twins with a case of placental fusion. besides, you can’t tell me that stealing his baby brother’s placenta while the two of them are literally still in the womb doesn’t sound like exactly the type of BS that fetus!AFO would pull, lol.)

but. even if it’s not actually what I would call love, there’s still... attachment, there. it’s the closest he can get to actually caring about someone. guh. just, somehow they have both managed to humanize him, and at the same time made him less human than ever. this manga, man. this fucking manga, though

jynx decided they want to make touhou-like shmups, and decided to approach this by building most patterns around extremely fast bullets relying entirely on player reaction or having already seen a pattern before, infamously the most disliked and player-antagonistic way of approaching bullet hells

jynx added a great iteration on touhou-like shmups with flash bombing, an infinitely regenerating way to clear bullets if you put yourself in active danger in contrast to the use of bombs as a safe but finite resource, and then made sure you could only use it if you aren't focusing your shots, which you spend over 90% of a touhou-like doing

jynx created "absurdly extra" stages just as a complete fuck you to the player. half of them are humanly impossible to complete

jynx's version of character development is to add more characters. jynx will drop one of the most fascinating backstories you've ever heard that has groundbreaking and sweeping impacts on len'en lore, yet somehow being entirely consistent with it, and then proceed to do literally nothing and minutes later introduce another character with one of the most fascinating backstories you've ever heard. len'en has 40+ characters and all of them have been in perpetual Big Things Are Coming hell for over half a decade

jynx has spent over an alledged 15 years working on the world and lore in mugenri and the outside world, desperately wants to share this and continually mentions the short stories and lore dumps they write, which we never see, because they have somehow convinced themself the only way to show this story is through touhou-likes, which are notable for showing "story" as an excuse for people to shoot bullets at each other

jynx treats feature creep like an arms race. there isn't a single idea they come up with that doesn't end up in a game or is planned to at a later date. len'en 4 is still technically unfinished despite it having enough paths to dwarf all the previous len'en games combined thrice over and featuring the entire cast of the series in it (i will stress again, 40+ characters), and they've promised a dlc with even more stuff to do

jynx wanted to make a mobile cafe management simulator after having made nothing but bullet hell shmups on pc, just because it sounded fun, realised their previous tools couldn't make mobile games well, realised they'd be going in entirely blind on a new tech stack, realised they'd be going in blind on a genre they have no experience with, decided to tag on a second entire game to the cafe management with a turn-based rpg, realised they also have no experience with that genre, continued anyway, learnt how to use unity from the ground up, realised the multitude of issues unity development brings, decided every single character also needed to be in this one with unique boss battles, realised the problems of having 40+ character assets and 5min+ music themes in a mobile game that very infamously is a platform you need to stick to strict asset and tech limitations, decided to stream in assets from a server, made it a live service game because it would be online and that was an obvious next step, stuck through it, totalling in five years of dev time to make a full "gacha" game that is generous beyond belief and makes them a net zero in ad revenue vs server costs

jynx iterates nothing. literally everything you see in their games is the first go and if it sucks, too bad

jynx creates all their music with default fl studio sounds and the touhou trumpet. everything's unmixed. they earnestly believe that loud = better

jynx, allegedly, "blacks out" when making music after hitting some kind of flow state, and wakes up with a complete track. like everything else, these are never iterated on

[FNAF AU] The Glamrocks

"Let's bring a bright welcome to our redesigned, pushed to their potential and superstars to the Glamrocks!"

People have the desired for me to redesign the Glamrocks for my AU "Security Breach: Revision" so here they are!

I am so happy how is getting together this AU which the next step is bring 'em the introduction and start this AU! But don't worry! THIS IS NOT EVEN THE HALF OF ALL THE GANG AROUND THE MEGA PIZZA PLEX.

The Glamrock take their places in the show stage and their own places and rooms. The Glamrocks proceeds to be in Rockstar Row as their room locations, meanwhile the Glampops are in the Popstar Path in the opposite side of the Rockstar Row. Entering to the show stage located, Rockstar Row is placed on the left side, while Popstar Path is on the right side.

The Glamrocks and the Glampops doesn't... like each other that much, there's a misunderstanding between them, an argument of which is the best music genre: Pop or Rock? Meanwhile Glamrock Freddy hasn't got any problem about it as his Glampop version, the others seems to not understand that it can be a good mix between Pop and Rock.

The Recycled has no problems with non of those gangs, even tho, they're fascinated by their concerts in the show stage wishing someday to be able to perform regardless their looks.

Reminder of this AU:

"Security Breach: Revision" amplifies the size and space of the Mega Pizza Plex and brings a second chance and update to FNAF 2, 3, 4 and Sister Location animatronics. More new locations, reincoporated and modified animatronics for a better experience and new places to explore!

This AU would be shown as comic and doodles to make you know about the characters interaction with each animatronic and discover lore behind them. Details, facts, exploration and even more forward the actual story prologue before Security Breach, either way is a completely reimagined story of the actual game and universe which NON OF THIS IS CANON.

Animatronics are NOT Possessed by any children, or similar, no corpses inside the animatronics, nothing, they're clean and their personalities comes from advanced AI system programmed by the technicians and Fazbear Entertainment.

So with it, I can introduce you to them:

Glamrock Freddy: The leader, the rockstar, the best father figure you might ever seen (daddy issues?); Freddy is someone really caring and the main character of the megaplex, adored by many of course. He cares for the children, makes sure nobody's hurt, makes sure everyone is having a faz-errific day and a good stay, he gives joy and smiles and what he loves most is to be with the ones he cares most and help anyone in need. He's a good mentor by the way.

Glamrock Bonnie: The most respectful one, Bonnie is everyone's bestie and he's really extroverted. He has got no shame at all but he does everything right, a good icon to follow I tell ya, he takes the electric guitar side while Freddy sings. He's a cool guy and actually loves cooking along Chica, he takes the Bonnie Bowl place and his star meal is carrot cake!

Glamrock Chica: An extroverted fella full of energy but not too clean nor neat at all- Chica smells like strawberry pie because she BAKES! Rockstar and baker? Why not my guy, she loves pizza, sheloves food in general and her star meal is strawberry pie. Chica is passionated with her work as guitarrist, never stops rocking as a Barbie girl (bc of the colors)! She's kind and really warm friend to be with but she rarely goes by herself to someone. Seems she's making distances.

Roxanne Wolf: She's the best! A good rockstar, the best keytarrist, a badass mother to take care of your children in Roxy's Raceway. She has many fans and as her clothing looks like, she loves so much car races and anything vehicle related. She's a good racer but a bad loser, to any birthday kid losing a race, she goes straight away to stop those other racers trying to make the birthday boy to win. As the security guards requested to Roxy, she takes care of Cassie and she has full access and membership forever because her dad passed away by "strange circumstances" deep down the Pizza Plex (do not worry tho, Cassie has mother so she just comes visit the place often). Roxy might have a really high ego and pride but... she blames herself a lot when plans don't go as she would like to.

Tears of the Kingdom and the Orientalism of the Mummy - Dehydrated Ganon

Plenty have talked about the portrayal of Ganon and the problems with both him and the Gerudo as a whole. I haven't seen as much talk about dehydrated Ganon specifically and wanted to share some of what I'm aware of.

TotK in many ways can be read with the number of plot points it lifts from classic mummy films, which in turn means it also picked up all the racial history and tropes that come with that.

Dehydrated Ganon and Phantom Ganon are mummies. He's explicitly referred to as such several times in the game and the game's opening relies on a number of classic mummy movie tropes in its presentation as introducing a corpse-like Ganon.

Here's an excerpt from the The Mummy On Screen: Orientalism and Monstrosity in Horror Cinema.

Male archaeologists, heroic adventurers and female heroines are all drawn to enigmatic corpses and/or racial ‘Others’, being variously hypnotized, transformed, romanced, coerced and/or transported away from their humdrum lives, sometimes through time to re-experience an ancient past in which they once lived, sometimes through space to Egypt where the monster stalks or seduces them.

Helen in The Mummy (1932) is a woman who succumbs not only to the influence of the Mummy but also to the lure of Egypt itself and its ancient ways that still hold sway.

 If one accepts Wood’s thesis, one can see the Mummy film as having a formidable formula, with the Orient serving as an effective site and its chief monster functioning as a potent medium for the release of the suppressed.

The game is built on Zelda being zipped to the past and her experiences in an ancient, mystical world and seeing the founding of Hyrule while Link is integrated into the resources left behind.

After Link and Zelda were drawn in by the Mummy's call to investigate beneath Hyrule following the rise in illnesses from the gloom.

Zelda is whisked away to ancient Hyrule where she spends time with her very heavily Native coded (which would need an entirely separate post on the tropes associated with that and the way the game uses Anti-Native tropes) Zonai pals.

She's in a rush to return home, but this new space also ends up being a big learning environment for her. She's exposed to this ancient and alluring culture that fascinates her and provides many of the wants and needs she expressed in BoTW.

She's given the supportive parents she's needed--a supportive father figure who explicitly supports her utilizing study to achieve her goals and a loving mother to teach her how to use her powers. She even gets a cool engineering/history auntie who shares a lot in common with her.

All of these things are stolen from Zelda because of the evil mummy.

The game makes great effort to play into the exoticized idea associated with the Zonai, right down to infusing Link and Zelda in their culture with Zelda given a new outfit, home, and lifestyle, and Link gifted with Rauru's power.

The Zonai in TotK are characterized less by their beliefs or the perspective of Mineru or Rauru and more framed in relation to the resources they provide others--the secret stones, the Zonai devices, the exotic, mysterious, ancient powers and knowledge, the zonaite you mine, Rauru's arm, etc.

That leads into another issue with how Tears reinforces the idea of Native extinction in how the Zonai are more characterized for the resources everyone is extracting from them rather than their actual peoples' thoughts and feelings and how that form of erasure harms real Native people outside of the fiction.

There's also the aspect of how the land and resources of these Native people are almost destined to fall into the hands of largely white, "civilized" Hyrule leaders with every other group serving under Hyrule's order geographically and narratively while the Zonai are people we only interact with in memories or as spirits.

The Orient until the second half of the nineteenth century had largely proven a fruitful terrain for colonial conquest and achievement for the British, but from the Indian Mutiny of 1857 towards the end of the century various military setbacks began to point worryingly to a decline in British power…In the aftermath of such events, rather than being perceived as ‘passive’, with ‘no capacity for violence’ (Mercer and Julien 1988: 108), the inhabitants of the Orient became more forbidding, a change in perspective reflected in the literature of the period that simultaneously portrayed anxiety concerning Britain’s own newfound sense of vulnerability.

Richard Marsh’s The Beetle...depicted Egypt as every bit as capable as Transylvania of bringing a primitive threat to the civilized West.

As Marsh’s novel exemplifies, the legacy of the ancient Egyptians had transformed over the course of the nineteenth century from one that bestowed valuable knowledge into one that offered secrets best left unearthed, being increasingly tainted as the years unfolded through its association ‘with the mysterious and supernatural, the questionable and disreputable’.

Mummy films rely very heavily on presenting the "other" as an exotic and almost tempting place for the civilized white protagonists to find and change themselves.

They also acted as a way to depict non-white people to bypass several censorship restrictions in earlier decades, so you often see them framed as romance films with an emphasis on a commentary about that dangerous, tempting allure of the mummy being used as a commentary on interracial relationships and intermingling of the civilized and uncivilized with a white gaze in mind.

Many mummy films also would utilize racial coding to characterize the mummy as hostile, dangerous, tempting or seductive in relation to the white, civilized character, something done with several other movie monsters like Dracula, King Kong, etc.

No matter the Zelda game, the structure ends up being largely the same with Ganon in that Hyrule or wherever is shown to be peaceful until the "evil man of the desert" invaded and defiled their space with his wickedness and disrupting the order of the gods and the status quo.

Dehydrated Ganon specifically is another extension in linking Ganon and his wickedness and evil to his heritage and status as a SWANA-coded character, in a lot of using tropes associated with Black people, etc.

He's not just evil because he's a selfish overlord, he's an evil "other" Middle Easterner invading the pure and peaceful environment the game made the effort to set up, and his constant presence looms in the game in how his corpse-like mummy servant is busy carrying out his will.

The Mummy and Nubian were a particularly suitable pairing considering contemporaneous racial stereotyping...Elizabeth Young years later highlighted others, identifying the black ‘brute’ as a stereotype that ‘carried particular force’ in 1930s cinema as ‘a monstrous beast.

Cultural attitudes towards African Americans manifestly became intertwined with contemporary ones concerning those of North African Egyptian Mummies in this version of the play.

In addition to Zelda being taken to the ancient past, we have the element of Ganon stalking and scheming to his rise to power in how he defiles the sanctity of ancient Hyrule continuing in the pattern of referring to him as the "man of the desert," another means of codifying Ganon as inherently evil by way of his heritage. There's almost constant reference to his home, the desert and anything else associated with othering him.

Ganon has previously used religious iconography in how the Gerudo crest used to very closely resemble the symbol of Islam.

He also uses racial coding associated with antisemitism in how he's a green-skinned, hook nosed magic-wielder.

There's Anti-Black imagery in his muscularity and chains and how he devolves into a mindless, savage brute.

There's all the decades of sentiments toward SWANA people wrapped up in him and the mummy is a continuation of that in how dehydrated Ganon is presented as a stalking, corrupting presence who defiles the sanctity and draws the civilized white protagonists in with his tempting allure. Phantom Ganon is a looming threat who can arise out of nowhere.

I know dehydrated Ganon is the same dude as regular Ganon, but I do think there's an extra element to discuss in how Tears uses decades of old mummy horror and the racial coding that comes with that to further the idea that Ganon is an evil SWANA man who needs to be feared and eradicated.

Hob is over 600 hundred years old, he’s got a ton of trauma that he never knew how to deal with until he learns about something in the early 2000’s…. Age regression. Hob didn’t have a childhood in the traditional sense so the idea of going to back to a childlike mind set fascinated him, but now he can’t exactly control when it happens. Whenever he gets stressed out his mind instantly goes to it, which had caused some problems especially after his stranger, Dream came back into his life. Hob had to pretend, hide his stuffed ducky and paci whenever Dream came over. He had to control his mind if anything vaguely distressing came up. This of course became an even BIGGER problem once him and Dream got together, they started sleeping in the same bed (well Hob slept anyway) and his ducky hadn’t seen the light in many weeks. Everything was going great until Dream asks a question. “Hob dear…are you pregnant?” Dream asks one day laying his head in Hob’s lap as the bigger man was reading a book. All this got was a book dropped on his face. “Oh dream I’m so sorry are you alright? You just um startled me with the question,” Dream of course was fine no mere mortal book could pose any threat to him, although under the cover of darkness he would admit his nose hurt a little.

“I am perfectly fine, Hob Gadling. But you have not answered my question.”

“Dream…I don’t know how to tell you this but I don’t exactly have the parts to get pregnant.”

“hmm,” Dream pondered, “how strange” he said laying back in Hob’s lap.

“wait wait wait hang on..why you’d think i was pregnant?”

“you dream of nurseries, baby bottles, stuffed animals…I don’t mean to look into your dreams but when we were in such close proximity it just happened I’m very sorry for invading your privacy,”

“was it a duck?” “Pardon?”

“the stuffed animal was it a duck?” Dream only nods in response.

it takes Hob a few more weeks to actually tell Dream what that meant. His Dreams had become more frequent and Dream was learning things but he wasn’t sure how to apply them. This was of course until Hob was mid panic attack and Dream somehow knew the duck was in the closet. “Hob…hob look at me,”

he looks up from his position on the floor barely able to breathe.

“I found a friend who really wants to talk to you,” Dream pulls out the duck from behind him and Hob immediately snatches it, seeming to calm down immensely. Dream didn’t ask questions that night, only comforted Hob, that however does not stop him from asking questions later. “You are not with child,”

Hob chuckles stirring his soup. “I know that love,”

“You are the child,”

Hob drops his spoon, he wants to run he wants his ducky, but he has to stay strong and deny everything.

“I am 600 years old I’m less of a child than your average person,”

Dream walks over to him and cradles Hob’s face in his hand.

“Hob…darling.”

He can’t look at Dream, he can’t.

“I’m not going to judge you, I merely wish to help you,”

Hob sighs and tells Dream everything. it’s a slow process after that, Hob formally introduces Dream to Ducky and shows him the pacifier after that, those being his only two items, Dream intended to change that. And after a few weeks a…dynamic began to emerge. And a year and a half later this is where our story unfolds.

Hob had a bad day, dream can sense it a dark cloud had entered the New Inn and it was quickly coming up the stairs, Dream wasn’t quite sure if Hob needed his other moniker today he would wait until the other man told him. Hob taught a lesson on the 1600’s because of his class schedule he technically taught it three times, he hated his unit on the 1600’s but someone had to do it. He was dropping fast he had to get upstairs, everyone knew not to speak to Mr. Gadling when he got in a bad mood because he usually didn’t talk back and looked like he didn’t understand what you were saying.

When he gets up there, the doors unlocked. Dream knows, little Hob has such trouble with locks. He opens the door and there stands Dream with a look of such openness and sympathy Hob knows he definitely knows. “D-d-da daddy,” Hob manages to choke out crying. Oh he definitely needed Dream’s other D moniker today. Dream swoops Hob into a hug, after so much time he was a professional at this. He holds Hob’s face in his hands. “Tell me what you need little one,”

“h-hungry”

Dream knew, he had known Hob was doing lectures on the 1600’s he would feel his hunger more acutely. He had prepared for this. He holds him close, petting his hair. “oh my poor baby is hungry, that just won’t do, why don’t we get dressed for a night in, and Daddy will get your bottle off the stove, how’s that little one?” Hob only nods, letting Dream hold his hand and lead him to the bedroom. Getting dress for a night in meant Hob’s little pajamas made of the softest and most comfortable Dreamstuff of course. Soon Dream heard the ding of the stove as he was settling Hob in bed. “Now my darling boy, you stay right here while Daddy goes and gets your bottle,” Hob looks hesitantly off to the side. “What’s wrong, hob?” “D-ducky,”

that’s what Dream had forgot! He summoned Ducky from his corner in the closet and handed him to Hob.

“Ducky!” Hob was delighted and held on to his bird companion close

Dream chuckled and went to fetch Hob his bottle. When he returned it seemed as if Hob was animatedly telling Ducky about his day, it was mostly baby babble that Dream didn’t understand, but Ducky could, Ducky always understood. Dream quietly knocked on the door so as to not startle Hob.

“Hobbit, Daddy’s got your bottle,” 

Hob looked up and squealed in delight at Dream’s presence or at the presence of food, Dream wasn’t sure, it didn’t matter anyhow all that mattered was that Hob was happy.

Dream came up to Hob’s side of the bed.

“Dweam!” 

“Yes Hob Dream is here,”

He goes to hand Hob the bottle but strangely Hob only looks at it. 

“Oh, is someone really little? Can Daddy hop into bed with you?”

Hob nods and Dream slides into next to him. 

“Do you want me to feed you?”

Hob nodded eagerly, he must have been very young to be almost nonverbal.

Dream maneuvered the both of them until Hob was in Dream’s lap. 

He held the bottle up and Hob drank down almost greedily.

“Slow down little one you don’t want to upset your tummy, my, my, someone was hungry, wasn’t he?” 

Dream fed Hob and rocked him back and forth as he cuddled Ducky.

“You’re my good, brave little boy. You did so well today. Now it’s time for daddy to take care of you,” 

Once Hob had finished his bottle Dream fed him some sugar coated strawberries to get some solid food in him. 

“Full”

“Oh good boy, thank you for telling Daddy.”

Dream put away the strawberries and rubbed Hob’s little tummy.

Sometimes when Hob was little Dream would park him in front of the tv, this was usually on the weekends when Hob regressed more to decompress than anything else. Little Hob was obsessed with cartoons, he’d sit for hours unmoving fascinated by the moving pictures, Dream started diapering him after one too many accidents. But Hob didn’t need that right now. Right now he needed his Daddy. 

“Alright baby boy, do you want daddy to tell you a story?”

After that he had fallen asleep in Dream’s arms. 

Although there are pit falls when this happens…

The next morning…. 

Dream was in the kitchen preparing some tea waiting for Hob to wake up, he never woke up regressed so this was bound to be entertaining. 

“Aw fuck I did it again, we’re really in it now, Ducky,” he could hear Hob mutter from the bedroom.

“Dream,” he called from the bedroom.

“Yes darling?”

“I uh… wet…my ……protection,”

Dream chuckled, he always did.

“Do you need Daddy’s help?” Dream teased. 

“What! No no I got it I’ll just do it myself, I’m a grown man thank you very much,”

Dream chuckled and headed for the bedroom, he never in fact did it himself.

So I have little to no experience with writing age regression BUT I'm absolutely fascinated and delighted by the concept! And let me tell you, age regression + Hob made me absolutely melt. I feel like I could really get into what an amazing way this would be for him to cope with immortality (because while it is a gift, it causes significant strain on him) but mostly I just want to appreciate how cute this is!!! Hob and Ducky melted my heart, he's such a sweet boy and I'm so glad Dream will be taking good care of him from now on!! The whole thing about him being extra hungry when he's little just made my whole chest clench up - give that baby his bottle!!!!!

Also love fully grown Hob at the end and how they're teasing each other, loving each other, accepting each other. No real embarrassment, because Hob knows that he's loved and cared for! Plus him still talking to Ducky absolutely cracked me up.

I would definitely love to see more of this kind of thing in the dreamling-sphere! Thank you so much for sharing this adorable little ficlet.

Let's talk about..

Gale and Topaz's Childhood, or well, a portion of it.

Let's start with Gale first. Gale was the firstborn of Lord Atlas and Lady Luminia, destined to be an Authoritative Figure within the Militia of the Kingdom. Though before responsibilities were placed on his shoulders, he was given the proper time to live out his childhood as a young Qilin rather than immediately going through the complex process of having him know his duty and place within the Family. To their surprise, Gale was granted his powers when he was only six years old, (In Human Years) which was a good and bad thing— of course you don't want your house looking like a mess whenever you returned home. While he wasn't the most social and adept in conversation among his peers and relatives, he was highly curious of the world around him. He had an adventurous spirit who saw beauty in everything and wanted to learn about new things every single day to the point that Luminia agreed to take him to visit different parts of their Home Planet to explore, of course with his Mother's guidance. Though as the years went on, he slowly got better at socializing and both of his Parents started to train and test him for his responsibilities. His Father, while a Diplomat, was the one who taught him how to fight; teaching him different fighting styles, how to hold weapons, how he can control his Aerokinesis, and he even was able to outbest his Father in a duel at one time. Whereas his Mother introduced him to the more complex duties that will be in store for him once he becomes a Commander; strategy planning, outpost locations, memorizing borders around the Kingdom, and so on. He had a fair time as he grew up, though there were times where he'd come off as strange towards other children due to his eccentric behavior and fascination for the dangers outside of the Kingdom, even promising one day that they'll venture out to even the dangerous of Planets to study and learn of the mystique that is hidden beneath the dark atmosphere.

And well eventually, he became a Commander, underneath the Legion of the current King at the time. It was an honor, even Gale couldn't stop smiling when he was promoted to such a high status. He was well-respected and admired by a lot of people because of his excellent leadership skills, even other high ranking elites that were above his position. A valiant warrior he was, but he would never press a threat too much if it meant it risked the safety of his squadron.

Now, for Topaz. Topaz was.. the odd one in the Family really. She was super energetic and friendly, but her enthusiasm was incredibly overwhelming and tiring from what others say, even her Parents get their energy drained the moment they stay in a room with her for five minutes or less. She unfortunately had difficulty making friends due to her bizzare and weird knowledge that she learned while reading her Father's journal and book collection, which to be fair, was odd for a child like her. She was only like, what? Four at the time? She had a creative mind and liked to talk about the possibilities that would come in the future, and you could say she was the problem-solver in the Family. The only problem was.. she was powerless. Atlas and Luminia thought she was a late bloomer, but even when she came of age, she still lacked any power. But this didn't discourage the couple, they wanted their Daughter to be known not for her powers, but for her intellect— and maybe fighting too? She had a bit of a habit imitating Gale's fighting moves whenever he was training, which gave Atlas the idea to also train her alongside her Brother. Years went by, and she pursued the path of knowledge and wanted to be a Scholar, though that immediately changed when her Father had asked if she wanted to become the Royal Advisor for the Royal Family, specifically the Princess who had been recently crowned just a few days ago to be officialized as a working member of the Monarchy, which of course, Topaz had agreed to with excitement.

Somehow, she landed the role after a rigorous and complex process of tests and qualifications. She adored her job and was happy to lend advice to Princess Fei-Shā whenever she needed guidance. She's happy that she and Gale weren't so far apart from each other when it came to their duties, that meant they could spend time together during breaks or when the Princess allowed them to be together for a while to catch up with their life. She was greatly respected by everyone thanks to her thoughtful planning and insight on confusing topics, no matter how hard it was, she still pulled through with her best. Even without powers, she was still able to outshine the rest with her wit.

That's all for now. Maybe I'll tackle certain chapters of their childhood.. maybe write a fic about it too.

Oh and, these two argue about strategies. A lot. Everyone finds it amusing how hard they'll try to prove the other that theirs is more superior.

There is a reason why the first thing he wanted after regaining a body was food. It brings him joy!

He was ready to go back to the simpler food of his younger years when he gave up being Count to start a new life with you. It had even become something he associated with his old vices

So when he sees the stuff you manage to create over a campfire, he falls in love with you all over again

Starting today off by introducing our 21st colonist, Henry!! Woo! How exciting- and annoying. My colonist bar had to break into two rows on top of each other to handle so many pawns! it won't be a problem for long, don't worry

Henry is a little boy who is of the 'Hussar' xenotype, which just means he's a genetically engineered super-soldier who will apparently develop a dependency on Go-Juice later in life. Hooray for him. He has a wooden foot and lil' bandaids on his face, which makes me think this kid has seen some fights way too grown-up for him. Fortunately, the colonists at Eureka don't believe in sending children into combat, so Henry is free to spend his days learning and having fun.

The first thing Henry did (after putting on a new shirt) was go hang out with Irwin in the school building to learn about melee. For what it's worth, Henry is already the third-best melee fighter in the colony, at the same level as Kawoo, and only beaten by Irwin at level 14 and Connie at level 11.

I think he is going to get along swimmingly with Irwin.

Then we had a drop-pod raid, which I did not think was going to be a problem because there didn't seem to be that many Saurid raiders... But, alas...

I guess someone named "Executioner" would ruin my day, huh?

The problem with drawing the adventures of these colonists is that I get way too attached to them. So, uh... I wrote eulogies. Sorry. They're under here if you feel like reading 'em.

Wendy Marsengill

Wendy Marsengill was killed on the 13th of Decembary, at the age of 27. She is survived by her wife of 1.5 years, Tamarind, by a vast and eccentric family, including her Aunt Kawoo and cousin Andy, and by many friends in the settlement of Eureka and beyond.

Wendy had a fascinating start to her life when she was recruited as a Child Spy. She went on to become a Barber in her adulthood, though, at some point, she ended up on a distant Rimworld and was lost to madness as a Wild Woman. She wandered in this state for some time before joining the Animist Alliance, where she met and eventually married her wife Tamarind.

Wendy was the best cook in the settlement and often was single-handedly responsible for keeping the colony fed with properly cooked food, and nobody ever got food poisoning while Wendy was manning the kitchen.

Some of Wendy's greatest moments include wearing a jester's hat to her own wedding and somehow managing to cement herself as the most Australian colonist in my head based on a single social interaction way-back-when.

Pearl the Cheetah

Pearl was the first animal to join the ranks of Eureka's ever-growing menagerie, not including Rogan the rottweiler who crash-landed with Albina, Brennan, and Irwin.

Pearl landed near our burgeoning settlement in an animal drop-pod, where she was rescued and nursed back to health by Head Researcher Brennan. Pearl decided to stay with us and spent a very long time sleeping on an animal sleeping spot on the rough marble floor of Irwin's ascetic bedroom (sorry, Pearl. You deserved better).

Once Andrei McCarthy joined the colony, it was love at first sight, and he bonded with Pearl almost immediately. She was eventually given a proper animal bed in the room Andrei shared with his wife, Kawoo and their infant son Andy, before Andy moved to his own room.

Pearl was brave, beautiful and very fast, as cheetahs often are. It is a tragedy that I can't draw animals as well as I would like to, or she would have featured far more prominently in all these posts. I'll miss her. She made silly noises when I zoomed in on her sometimes. It's going to be quiet without her.

i have to rant about this or i might cease to exist. 

lokius...

for one, i love queer ships (canon or not) but i also like to stay true to the show i’m watching, and i personally don’t have a big problem with sylki (just a little underwhelmed with it if i’m being honest). but the more i look at loki and mobius’ relationship, the clues and that damn song, the more it feels actually plausible that this could turn into something real.

i’m going to somewhat rank these from 1 downward, 1 being its probably coincidental, down to this is too spot on to be nothing. all while i sip leisurely at my tea.

1. “i’ve studied almost every moment of your life..”

it kind of speaks for itself. its a pretty simple bit of dialogue, and most likely doesn’t mean all that much, but what is mobius’ fascination with loki variants? this is higher on the list mainly because mobius has been assigned this case, he's a detective and its his job to dig deep, he's consumed by his work, therefore it isn't strange for him to know so much about loki's life on the sacred timeline.

2. the tie adjustment scene

trust me, i'd love to put this lower on the list, but theres one thing that makes me believe this is-- albeit disappointingly-- a coincidence. it was improv. maybe that, for some people, is more of an indicator of canon lokius, that tom hiddleston felt that that scene was being led in such a flirtatious direction, however, this scene was more his following along owen's playful presence on set, which just makes it kind of sweet. but this is one of my favourites scenes, regardless of the intention behind it. loki will always be a flirt, after all.

3. loki's bisexuality

as much as i would have loved to see more on loki's sexuality-- perhaps slightly more explicitly given his status as the god of mischief-- i'm not going to hate on sylvie and loki, because that would simply erase the existence of bisexuality, hetero-presenting relationships exist and to deny so would again, erase the meaning of bisexuality. however, the ending of season 1 does raise some questions. loki and sylvie's separation sets up the future of marvel, it needed to happen, so this might not mean much at all and we now know that season 2 will focus on loki searching for sylvie through timelines. but how purely queer would it be for loki to realise some stronger feelings toward one agent mobius, and perhaps loki and sylvie's relationship was something that was meant to stay platonic, who knows? this is considerably more fanon than my other theories, but i had to include it, given that to me, its a reasonable arguement. lgbtq+ characters need to be introduced and this was kate herron's goal from the beginning. she also said that she hoped marvel went further with this new information and explored more thoroughly. forgive me for this more outlandish inclusion, but it has been on mind for awhile now.

4. the presence of the dagger / "love is a dagger..."

we all know this one, we've all screamed over it and we all hope it means something more than just a coincidence. with marvel's history of in-depth attention to detail (comic references, foreshadowing years prior to a movie's release), it feels a little too purposeful, doesn't it? again, i'm trying to keep rank these into something somewhat believable with viable evidence, so something i will mention is that loki has lacked any close friendships his whole life. gaining a relationship like this would hold deep value to him, and parting ways would likely pull forth some deep bittersweet emotions. platonic love is arguably more important than romantic, the need to be understood without judgement and that is what both mobius and loki have given each other. the tears in loki's eyes during this scene is a clear indicator of their care for each other, but whether that goes deeper is unclear.

my thoughts fluctuate on this one. for one, its simply so beautiful and meaningful to loki's development (and mobius') that whether its meant platonic or with an underlying romance, feels like it hardly matters, because it holds as much meaning either way. "love is a dagger", it appears in so many forms throughout the series: mobius giving loki his daggers, only for them to be taken away by B-15 a second later, this hug scene and loki and sylvie's fight in the citadel. its so prominent in this scene, its hard to dismiss, yet marvel fluctuates so much with their details that its hard to tell if this was intended the way i'm seeing. regardless, its beautiful and definitely a worthy inclusion.

5. the lokius song / mobius' apparent jealousy

lets get one thing straight, natalie holt is an amazing composer and i will back that to no end with my spotify wrapped this year, trust me on this. so when i first started listening through the second album, like a true neurodivergent kid, i was memorising every song name and i have to say, i lost it a little when i saw the name of this song. natalie confirmed that sif and loki had a 'thing' during the point that the time loop scene was set, so one cannot dismiss the possibility that she could know a little more about the prior scenes than we realise. i was skeptical when i first saw people's impressions of these scenes, after all, they had all reunited after loki technically betrayed mobius, so it was understandable that mobius wouldn't exactly be pleased with the circumstances that they're meeting again. but something about the way he looks at loki and sylvie when he's leading them down the hall, he just looks kind of heartbroken and disappointed. again, this could have been the result of loki's betrayal, if the way he calls him a bad friend is anything to go by, but the substance of this scene holds so much in it. and his little rant about loki and sylvie's "twisted romantic relationship" breaking his reality, hits a little hard. maybe this wouldn't have meant much if it hadn't been with that bloody song, because tell how just an angry, hurt mobius = lokius? it can be jealousy regardless of romantic feelings, friendships feel it too, but this feel a little more substantial.

worthy inclusions:

sylvie's "he cares about you" comment in the void, and loki's near dismissal of it.

loki falling asleep in the archives, he trusts mobius.

am i the only one that finds it cute how loki hangs out at mobius' desk while mobius is off doing other work?

conclusion:

look, i'm going to be honest here, i grow sceptical of my own arguments at times. these are very minor things, and i didn't even realise they were pushing loki and sylvie in the direction they were until they kiss (in other words, i'm a little oblivious), so i want you all to take this with a grain of salt. i like to stay true to the actual characters and their makers, i don't have unrealistic expectations and i am no director, actor or screenwriter. i am not saying how i think the next season should go, i just wish it could go to in this direction to some degree. i have my doubts, but my hopes too. regardless, i'm just happy to see these characters at all!

this is what so many seem to forget. there may be restrictions (cough cough disney), but everyone working on these shows and movies have put their hearts into it and i want to appreciate that for what it is! this doesn't mean you aren't entitled to your own opinion, of course you are! but just remember the show/characters you've fallen in love with and if you didn't have them at all. i'm overjoyed to see loki with a close friendship after so many years of watching him being proverbially kicked while he was down. ultimately, loki and mobius' friendship (and possible romance) is what technically saved loki and that's something beautiful in and of itself.

I don't think its impossible! but i keep an open mind for both directions their stories could take.

- You made conversation with him as you both cleaned up the mess, and you found yourselves bonding quite quickly. He mentioned something about his gem problems and you looked at him with starry eyes, and told him you were half-gem too!

- Steven was so shocked yet fascinated, he’s never met another half-gem half-human hybrid. You both showed each other where your gem placements were and soon enough, you both were exchanging phone numbers so you could keep in touch

- News quickly spread to the Crystal Gems that Steven made a new friend, who was a hybrid iust like him, and they all encouraged Steven to get to know you more — which he obviously did

I’ve been seeing posts about rewriting Wish and I decided to join!

Also I would like to say I do not hate the movie at all. This movie is very charming and a love letter to Snow White which is really cool. I would also like to say that many people put a lot of work into the movie and tried to make it to the best of their possibilities and I really appreciate that. The only problem I have with the movie is some plot aspects and diving a bit more into backstory but that’s all. Overall this movie is very charming at moments and I love the fact that they tried to combine 3d and 2d animation to combine the old and the new. I also love the detail of the backgrounds but I feel they should’ve done 3d and 2d for that too instead of just painting it so it would match the characters. (But I do love the backgrounds they look so pretty!)

So here are some ideas that I would experiment with with the concept of Wish.

First off, Asha would be the daughter of the king and queen. This will add more conflict and it will know make sense if Magnifico reveales the truth about what he was doing, especially on her 18th birthday. Asha in this version would also be more hard on herself to be the “perfect princess” from her parent’s influence, but as a result she is also a bit rude towards the servants of the castle and doesn’t really know how to show affection since her parents are very distant from her ever since doing their villainous deeds. Her character development over the movie will be her having a change of heart. With the influence of star boy she will make friends with the seven friends/servants and bond with her people and their culture. She will also develop a romance with star boy(Cyrus) which will help her realize and improve her mindset while it also referencing the movie romances in the renaissance films of Disney.

Magnifico and Amaya will both start out as villains in this one as well. Magnifico would be more bold and loud about his ego and evilness while Amaya in the beginning of the movie would have a sarcastic and “sickingly soothing” nature with her ego(reflecting the personality of their cat Charo) But Amaya will realize the error of her ways towards the end of the movie but there will be hints of unease on what she is doing throughout the movie. Magnifico and Amaya will be introduced as both king and queen with a very big ego and kingdom but under all of that, their people are not being treated as well. They also give their servants too much work to complete throughout the day. This will show how they only care about their moral, their fame and power being plastered over the whole world. The only reason they haven’t told Asha about their big plan is because they both agreed to leave her out of this which will make them seem more human and develop more conflict especially when Amaya finds out Magnifico tried to extract a memory from Asha as a child without him telling her. Also when Amaya decides she will not stand beside Magnifico anymore it will be a lot harder for her to leave since they both love each other. Overall the villainy of these two with be explained more in depth and result with bigger consequences.

Cyrus(star boy) will be the star that Asha accidentally wishes on during her “saying of the wish” ceremony. His personality will be described as bubbly and peppy, he will also be mute so his movements and emotions will be very animated. Asha and Cyrus will meet in the forest and at first Asha will be very stand-offish with him but over the film she does grow close to him. Cyrus is the prince of the stars or the star people and when he comes down from earth, he is fascinated with the human life but still at the same time seems to be familiar with a couple of things, especially when going in the castle. This will be explained later when we figure out that the star leaders and Magnifico and Amaya used to know each other, this is how Asha and Cyrus met for the first time as children.Their romance will be built off of giving knowledge to each other of their type of life like how Cyrus will teach Asha to be kind(star will also represent the influence disney has had on many people’s lives) while Asha teaches Cyrus how to live up to the responsibilities of the title of prince of stars(and soon king of Rosas). Also the name Cyrus does have two meanings but I’m using the one that means “heir” to point to the fact that he is a prince.

I love the little interactions with the seven friends and it is very charming in the movie. In this version their characters will be fleshed out a bit more and they will have a bit more relation to each other than just being friends. I think that maybe most of the servants in the castle were adopted from orphanage in exchange for work, which would make the king and queen look good on the outside but really this was just a way to easily get servants without trying. This will explain why they are all so close to each other and there could be a moment where they are hesitant to rebel against the king and queen since they were the one’s who took them in and they feel like they are betraying them. Asha also could’ve know the seven friends when she was younger, but when Magnifico ripped the memories from her, she completely forgot her whole friendship with them. This will also add some conflict between them thinking that Asha completely abandoned them. I also would like some of them to be related to each other to give some more dynamic like making Safi and Bazeema brother and sister and only Dario immediately being friends with Cyrus when he meets him. I would like them to have little character like learning to accept themselves as they are or they can improve by doing their tasks by using their strengths. And the betrayal with Simon I would definitely keep in there but he moral would be attached to the king with a type of deal thing. Simon has already made his wish Magnifico knows this while he is trying to find his daughter and this starboy. I’m thinking that he will find out about the little romance Asha and Cyrus are having and would make a deal with Simon that if he separated them somehow, he would have his wish granted. Once he has now separated Cyrus from Asha, he gets his wish granted but only to the benefit of the king to now find Cyrus.

Valentino would be an early birthday gift from a neighboring kingdom that Asha, in the movie time, has only had for a week. So she is very distant from him and pushes him away when he gets to close to her. But Valentino follows her around and when she meets Cyrus he is given a voice which would be voiced by a toddler since he is a baby goat. He has eaten many of Asha’s books when he has a chance to be in the castle(and some of Magnifico’s books)which will come in handy when they need to know what speed Magnifico is planning to use on all of the subjects from far and wide at Asha’s birthday ball.

The main conflict and mystery of the film would revolve around this. Magnifico wishes on two stars(the second star to the right and the first star on the left which would be a Peter Pan reference) which were the leaders of the stars. He was granted powers from his wish and set forth to study these powers and use them for his fame. He meets Amaya who has the same morals as him and falls in love while building a kingdom. He still knew the star leaders and as he started to gain more power he started to abuse his power. Meanwhile he now has a 6 year old daughter named Asha and one night the star king and queen come down to earth to confront Magnifico and Amaya. But Cyrus followed his parents down and meets Asha who is playing outside in the garden. While they bond, the king and queen of stars confronts Magnifico and Amaya and it turns into a battle but soon the star king uses to much of his power which, for a star, results in them exploding. The star queen is devastated and since you can’t kill stars, Magnifico and Amaya banish her to a book to which she becomes the entity that whispers and makes you evil. Meanwhile the big explosion is heard and Cyrus helps Asha hide before the remnant winds of the explosion shoot him up into the sky while he is is flying.

Asha is eventually found by her parents and she is terrified. Amaya is worried for her and so is Magnifico but since Magnifico is experimenting with taking people’s wishes and memories, he decides to try and take away Asha’s memory of that night in her sleep with Amaya knowing. But it backfires as he takes most of the memories from her childhood but could feel the power radiating from the memory. He decides to keep it when he sees this star boy that could potentially reveal what happened that night. And the big plan the king wants to do basically is take everyone’s “life force” since everyone is made from stardust which could fuel his power and doing it at his old observatory would be necessary for the spell he has to cast.

There will also be a moment in the story when Cyrus saves his mother from the book but Asha is now dead due to her using all of her strength in magic to defeat her father. Cyrus wants to heal her and tries but he can’t. So he exchanges his immortalness as a star in exchange for Asha living so he could be with her. Also Cyrus and Asha’s kiss would be them both holding up the wanted that he gave her and while they kiss their love transforms the broken kingdom into a beautiful village and palace and Asha and Cyrus become king and queen.

Those are just some ideas that I have been having and what I would use the concepts for. I really love the idea Wish had and I’m really hoping they try to remake the movie or make a spin-off series to try and repair this idea and explain some plot holes. And this is only a little sliver of what I’m thinking for a rewrite. But overall I really these ideas and think they would be a cool concept to work with. :)

Its not just the fanbase that likes V9 though. Fatmanfalling, Tom Horan, VexedViewer, Mrcheese. All major rwby critics who have never been nice to RT have stated this is the best volume. Its a consensus thats very wide. Which is fascinating

I don't follow the Youtube scene so I haven't seen their interpretations myself, but I wonder if this trend stems from the fact that, technically speaking, Volume 9 has done a lot of what critics have been calling for.

Jaune is absent for the first half of the Volume

The group is disagreeing with each other

Ruby is the focus of a major plot-point

Blake/Yang are indisputably in a canonical relationship

Penny's death is at the emotional heart of the Volume

This is a character-focused season

The Cat's presumed connection to the Gods ties this "fluff" arc into the wider narrative

There are other examples too, with the point being that if you were to just condense the Volume into talking points, yeah, it would come out looking really good. I wonder how many fans - critics and non-critics alike - are swept up in the relief of finally getting a lot of what we've been asking for... not realizing or admitting that it's a monkey's paw situation were we're also getting a series of unintended consequences as a result of these wishes. Again, I haven't seen these vids myself, but at some point I'd love to know a) if critics are factoring in the comparison aspect when calling this the best Volume (that is, "best" by RWBY standards doesn't mean free of serious problems) and b) if everyone still holds this view post-finale and after a bit of time has passed. I mentioned several posts ago the allure of RWBY's spectacle and given that I find myself doing this on occasion with other shows, I wonder how many fans would change their tune after revisiting Volume 9 after a bit of downtime. When we're not swept away by the shock of old!Jaune and the horror of Ruby drinking the tea and the excitement of seeing characters like Pyrrha again... when the novelty of the Big Reveals has worn off, do these moments still resonate? Or does that then leave room for a, "Actually, that's not very well done" response?

It is fascinating either way. I personally think this is one of RWBY's worst Volumes, due to how it has spectacularly failed to follow up on the conflicts introduced in Volume 8, its mishandling of new conflicts (like Ascension), and the overall tone of the Volume where we have a gag-focused start swerving hard into incredibly dark themes all while taking place in a world that, frankly, has had no time to be fleshed out. The fact that Little underwent the same fate as Maria and Pietro last episode - here's a side character you and the group are supposed to care about, but they're forgotten by the story after a horrific event where it's unknown whether they lived or died - just says to me that RWBY is still suffering from all the same problems, but now with increasingly ~shocking~ events to help distract viewers from that.

You caught his eye fairly quickly, it wasn't hard to notice you, you're absolutely stunning to him. In fact, you made him turn his head and consider walking up to you and striking up a conversation that wasn't god related, no one has ever managed to do that before. You looked as if god had blessed the earth with it's very own angel... absolutely stunning.

He deeply regretted not talking to you that day, he felt an unusual connection to you, one he's never felt before. He believed the lord had brought him a soulmate and he blew his chance to kindle that relationship. He prayed long and hard every day that you would return, but weeks went by and there was no sign of you. He thought you were long gone and fell into a merciless depression until he happened to see you again, shopping in a local store. He believed the lord given him a second chance and quickly took the opportunity to introduce himself.

You two talked about all sorts of things as Gregor showed you around town, you both felt that intense connection.. and that connection did not go unnoticed by the inhabitance of the town, either. They watched you both walk around and laugh together in shock and awe, some applauded the old geezer in their heads for getting an absolute knock out, some looked away in anger because they envied such a bond… The eyes boring into you both did not go unnoticed by father Gregor, who ended up sneakily leading you to the church away from the many prying eyes to continue your conversation.

As he sat in the peers next to you and watched as you spoke about your many fascinating interests and hobbies, he felt a warmth spread across his cheeks and he knew at that moment that it was meant to be.

After he told you some more about himself he hesitantly asked you out on a date by inviting you to eat out at a nice restaurant just up the road tomorrow night… You quickly interjected and basically said "Hell, why not tonight!?".. He was not expecting you to be so eager to go on a date with him, but a warmth grew within his chest when he saw the sparkly light in your eyes as you thought about it, so he agreed.

You both had a marvelous dinner, you ended up scooting over to his side of the table and sat next to him as you both ate, which Gregor loved tremendously. You both had fun together as you fed each other and cracked some playful jokes. You were both pretty much in your own little world, away from all problems, away from all pain.

It wouldn't be long until you moved into his place, turns out he lives in a small cabin some ways behind the church. You thought it was very charming and cute. The solitude gave you immense peace and seemed to ease all of your anxieties. IT was new, but certainly welcome.

You both live in harmony, when one of you is down, the other brings the other up and encourages them. It's a very healthy relationship, filled with lots of love and appreciation for one another.

Gregor is a very attentive lover, both in the bedroom and in general. He makes sure to check up on you daily and make sure you are doing well mentally and physically and always asks if you need help with anything. If you tell him you don't he'll just follow you around like a lost puppy until you can find something for him to help you with.

He's very good at choosing the best date spots, he usually takes you some where away from all the commotion where you both can relax and just be together, such as by the lake on a picnic or a small hiking trip up a peaceful hill, or a small trip out of town for a few days, an adventure in itself, one he does not know where will lead but as long as he's with you, he's willing to face anything that it may bring.

He always brings you flowers once a week, he never misses a beat. He always comes with the most beautiful bouquets you've ever seen in your life. Quite frankly, you're half convinced he has a secret little garden some where hidden away that he made just to bring you flowers. All the flowers you've seen in the town suck and are usually half wilted, so he must be going out of town if he is buying them... To you, he seems like the gardening type. He has mentioned before that he has had a few vegetation gardens in the past, so why not a flower garden?

If you happen to run into him in public and give him a kiss on the cheek he will absolutely melt, he'll stammer and flush bright red as he watches you walk away with a hand out to grab for you. He always wants to kiss you back in the moment but once he snaps out of his love trance he realizes it's probably best to not do that in front of older people.

Please give him kisses in public, he likes for everyone to know that you belong to him. Please sit so close to him that you think you're both going to merge together, he wants attention and he doesn't know how to ask. Please smother him in kisses on hard days, he adores you and only needs your love and attention to unwind and to feel safe and secure.

You wouldn't think a priest would be the jealous type… but you'd be dead wrong, Gregor is one of the most jealous men alive. You are the only person he's ever loved, of course he's going to be jealous of anyone who comes near you. If he even so much as sees a man talking to you he will be by your side in a millisecond with his hands carefully placed onto your stomach. Or if you're in a professional setting, he'll walk up and wrap his arm firmly around your shoulders and at that point you know you're going to have a rough night later.

------------------------------------------ Jealous sex is a must for him, it calms him down and is one of the only ways for him to not feel sour towards the people he caught in your presence. He's ashamed that he feels that way towards people and prays regularly for god to help guide him into a less jealous lifestyle, but why did god make you look so beautiful and so perfect that you catch the attention of every man in the room if he wasn't allowed to be feel jealousy? He's starting to feel like it's just part of nature… mostly from you reassuring him and telling him it is, in fact, normal and healthy to feel jealousy and that it's okay and he doesn't have to repent every time he feels it... You are straying him further away form god he feels, but he will follow to the ends of the earth and listen to everything you tell him, even if that means you does get lead astray.

Gregor often feels the need to, in his words, "repopulate", but he rarely acts on these urges. He tends to just stew in them and pray to the lord above that you can't tell… you can always tell and you happily service him when you notice. Your usually stoic boyfriend starts to get nervous and fidgets with his hands every time you're near him, he gets that… look.. in his eyes when he looks down at you, he pushes his body and his crotch closer to you, obviously subconsciously… not to mention the extreme body temperature he lets off when he's horny. It's insanely obvious yet he still has no idea how you can tell, and you refuse to tell him because you love to watch him suffer as he tries to figure it out.

You wouldn't expect Father Gregor to be hypersexual either, would you? Well.. he is, and he often suffers in public because of it. God forbid he gets aroused whilst thinking of you during a visitation. He's starting to think god does this to him for entertainment.. which made you burst out laughing when he first confessed that to you, but after you looked back up at his shameful puppy face you managed to recollect yourself and reassure him that it's just nature and it's nothing to be ashamed of.

He's incredibly thankful when you service him and always offers to service you in return, even if he's completely worn out. You can't tell if he does it for his servicing kink or out of appreciation. You assume it's a bit of both. Gregor loves himself a good roleplay in the bedroom, that and bondage? It's a god send for him. He only uses the finest silk ropes on you, he makes sure to tie them just tight enough for you to be stuck but to still be slightly loose so that you're comfortable. He makes sure you are100% comfortable the whole time and if you ever need to, for any reason, he will stop immediately. Occasionally he likes to give you a light spanking as well. He's extremely obsessive, he thinks about you 24/7 and worries about you constantly. When he does start to really worry, he prays for god to watch over you and to send his mightiest angels to protect you... You think it's very sweet and you absolutely believe god does send angels your way because you have managed to avoid accidents that would have otherwise killed you. You're insane lucky to have him in your life and you will cherish and protect him forever.
