i’m sure this has been said before and much more concisely but the whole parasocial relationship that audiences have with creators has only perversely grown in the sphere of literature. i see the most examples on places like tiktok and yours truly, tumblr, but it’s cropping up everywhere now. comments like “x author TOTALLY didn’t understand y character—they should have totally did this instead”. there’s a huge difference between an author mixing up/not fully fleshing out plots but to have this strange sort of hubris to suppose you know an author’s character better than said author is just inane interesting. this also extends to the very not new but never endingly exhausting theme of “why would author EVER write this like ugh i almost stopped reading here” okay bethany why didn’t u. it’s not every single authors job to cater to ur interests. not everything u read is supposed to be making a morally sound point, certainly not supposed to meet your personal version of one. literature is art, is subjective, is open and unrestrained. it’s not “oh my god this character is soooo toxic why is the author gaslighting us and omg there isn’t enough sPiCe” like grow up and learn critical thinking god

Twisted Wonderland Vampire AU Introduction
pt.1 featuring housewardens
cw: aged up characters, biting, blood drinking
Vampire AU based on the game Ikémen Vampire. The boys all live together in an isolated mansion that you happen to stumble into - now that you’ve discovered their secret, they can’t just let you go
pt. 2 diasomnia pt.3 octavinelle pt. 4 pomefiore
Malleus:
Malleus and Lilia are the original founders of the mansion.
They are “pure-blooded” vampires, meaning that they were born vampires, rather than turned.
As a vampire, Malleus has been so, so lonely all his life. As his guardian, Lilia decided to try to make his eternity less so by filling up their mansion with turned vampires - those who could have a taste of their own eternity, should they chose.
Although this was the initial goal, the newly turned vampires didn’t take to Malleus quite as well as Lilia might have hoped, often finding company with each other, and leaving him alone as he always has been.
Until you arrived at the mansion that is. Malleus hopes you’ll pay him some portion of your attention at least, even if it means he must find a way to drag you away from the others
Leona:
One of the earliest turned vampires to come to the mansion.
He hasn’t told you his reason for becoming a vampire, although it seems to be something to do with his history with his family.
Leona typically spends his days napping around the mansion.
He falls asleep anywhere and everywhere, so the other residents occasionally trip over him when walking through the halls.
Although he seems lazy and apathetic now, Lilia has told you that he was once a much more passionate individual.
He doesn’t seem too interested in your blood like some of the others, but you wonder what it would take to bring out his previous… intensity.
Riddle:
Always a stickler for the rules, Riddle simply couldn’t die without completing a checklist he keeps hidden from everyone’s view. Thus, he became a vampire.
You once asked to see the checklist, and never asked again when you caught sight of his angry face.
Riddle spends his days arguing with the other residents over rules they never agreed to follow.
He has a genuine love for reading, and with the massive library in the mansion, with books from all the ages Malleus and Lilia have lived through, Riddle is never at a loss on what to do.
Sometimes he leaves the mansion, although no one seems to know exactly where he goes.
Riddle refuses to touch you, let alone take your blood, calling it “improper”.
Lilia has, however, told you that Riddle is a bit… different from the other vampires.
His transformation went a bit wrong, and he has an abnormal and sometimes uncontrollable urge for blood, that the others just don’t have.
He has found a way to live normally, and has shown no sign of his condition to you, but when one of the other boys has decided to take your blood, you notice that Riddle seems to disappears as quickly as he can.
Azul:
Azul wanted to be turned to continue his lucrative business of course!
He is always, always pitching his contracts to you and the other residents.
Azul once tried to get you to sign over your blood, but Malleus put a quick stop to it.
Despite his tricks, he is one of the more friendly of the vampires, chatting pleasantly with you when you see him in the common areas.
Azul typically spends his days outside of the mansion, presumably trying to conduct more of his “business deals”.
You can, however, occasionally find him in the library, studying alongside Riddle. They never talk, but they do seem to enjoy each other’s silent company.
Azul’s interest in your blood seems more profit wise than personal interest, although the latter is not missing entirely.
Kalim:
A bundle of joy, Kalim seems totally out of place in this mansion full of vampires.
He doesn’t seem to remember how or why he got here in the first place, but that doesn’t stop him from gleefully enjoying his days.
Kalim spends his days relaxing and chatting with the other residents - those that are more sociable than others.
Kalim often relies on Jamil to take care of him, reminding him of his need for blood to survive.
Despite Jamil’s harsh suggestions to take blood from you, Kalim never considers it.
Your sunshine, Kalim is the only one you know you can trust here.
Vil:
You don’t know much about Vil, as he disregards your presence most of the time.
He’s let you know that he doesn’t know why the others insist on keeping you around. You’re not really sure yourself, to be fair.
Rook has informed you of Vil’s status as a model and actor, that being the reason for him being away from the mansion more than anyone, although he has to stay in the shadows more, with his vampiric nature.
You gather his job and fans are the reason he decided to become a vampire, although you question how long he’ll be able to stay in the spotlight without people noticing his differences…
Vil shows little interest in you as a person, let alone your blood. Despite his words, you have seen him tense up when you once got a paper cut in his presence.
Idia:
If you know little about Vil, you know close to nothing about Idia.
He stays almost exclusively in his room, and you only catch glimpses of him returning to his room from the kitchen.
You can really only guess what he does in his room.
Despite his reclusive and shy nature, he appears kind - compared to some of the others at least.
He hasn’t tried to take your blood, and for that, you are thankful. Maybe even thankful enough to seek out his company in the future.

Chosen of the Sun | | dawn // sixteen
| @amuhav | @catamano
next / previous / beginning
EIRA: Hey. TAYUIN: Hey. EIRA: Drink. TAYUIN: I’m not thirsty. EIRA: Aster can be an idiot, but he was right about one thing: You need to loosen up. TAYUIN: Isn’t it a bit ironic you saying that? EIRA: Why do you think I’m here? You should be flattered I even thought to share. TAYUIN: I am a bit, yeah. EIRA: Good. So. You wanna talk about it or something? TAYUIN: Not really. EIRA: Let me rephrase that: Talk. TAYUIN: What’s to talk about? I have no reason for being here. Even if I win now, I can never be Chosen of the Sun. Maybe it’s not such a great feeling to know that even the gods can’t fix me. Not that I ever thought they could. EIRA: So, all of that means you can’t enjoy a night out? To be honest, I expected you to be the type to lose yourself in shallow bullshit, if just to distract yourself from the truth. TAYUIN: Maybe I was like that. Before. EIRA: Before? TAYUIN: When I was back home. When I had nowhere to run. Sure, enough wine can make you forget things for a night. It doesn’t change anything. EIRA: No, it doesn’t change anything. EIRA: Is it true what the witch said? You’re a prince? TAYUIN: I was. It doesn’t matter now. EIRA: You ran away? TAYUIN: There wasn’t much else to do. EIRA: Must have been the pits, then. If it was so bad you wanted to leave. I always imagined homes and families were the kinds of things people fought to keep. Not that I’d know. I never had that choice. TAYUIN: Your parents are…? EIRA: Dead? No idea. I was barely one day old when they decided I wasn’t worth keeping. So, I imagine they aren’t worth knowing. Maybe if I’d grown up with them, I’d have been like you and run away in the end, too. Then it all would have ended up exactly the way it did. Suppose some people just aren’t meant to have children. TAYUIN: You… might be right. EIRA: You should tell him, you know. TAYUIN: Him? EIRA: The priest. You should tell him what happened with the witch. TAYUIN: What good will that do? It’s not his burden to bear. EIRA: If his premonitions return and he finds out unceremoniously, you’d have rather he heard it from the horse’s mouth. TAYUIN: I… EIRA: What are you so afraid of? TAYUIN: I don’t know. Hurting him… I guess. He didn’t see a problem with throwing himself on the fire for us. What is he going to think when I tell him what I agreed to? He’ll feel guilty, again. He’s a good person and I don’t know how to deal with that. EIRA: Do you regret the bargain? TAYUIN: Regret has nothing to do with it. There was no other way out. Whatever she asked for, I would have had to agree. There’s so few people in my life who’ve ever shown me any real concern. And maybe he—like some of them— only does it because he’s obligated to. But it doesn’t feel that way. It feels genuine with him. And that’s why— EIRA: You like him? TAYUIN: What? EIRA: Is that not what you were going to say? TAYUIN: No! Why would I— EIRA: But you do like him. TAYUIN: I wasn’t— EIRA: Cut your shit. You aren’t in there turning down Prepaid Pretty Boy for nothing. TAYUIN: I just wasn’t in the mood! EIRA: Yeah. Right. TAYUIN: Just go back inside, already!       EIRA: laughs I don’t know, I’m starting to like the ambience out here. TAYUIN: You and the Bard are just in cahoots to ruin my night. EIRA: Stop whining and finish your thought. TAYUIN: …Fine. I just… don’t want to see someone like that… someone like him, punished. And maybe a part of me is afraid of losing the opportunity to have someone to really listen. I guess now I’d feel the same about you. EIRA: You’re not alone in that. TAYUIN: For once, it’s nice not to be alone.

"Why must you make things hard for me?" Jungkook whines as he lays in his bed after you've shown him the new lingerie set you bought at the mall.
"I don't know what you mean," you giggle. "Want me to model these for you?" you hold up the baby pink lingerie and white thigh highs. Jungkook curses, cock already half-mast. Must you tease him so? He's in his apartment across the hall, already drowsy from his long day at work, with plans of seeing you in the morning but you had been so eager to show him your purchase and he had agreed not thinking it would be something so salacious and lacy?
"Fuck, please," he begs as he rolls onto his back, his free hand lazily stroking his cock. His teeth sink into his bottom lip, muffling the moan that threatens to escape him.
You change off camera before showing him. Jungkook can't help the moan that leaves him—so whiny and almost pornstar-like. It does wonders for your self-esteem.
"Kookie," you start.
Jungkook knows he's done for. He doesn't even give you a chance to finish before he's getting out of bed to head to your apartment.
It takes him all of thirty seconds to knock on your door and you welcome him in wearing your lingerie set. He kisses you the moment he steps through the threshold, leading you to your bedroom, where you lay under him.
"You look fucking amazing. Feel how fucking hard you've made me," he groans when he grinds his hips on yours. You moan, kissing him hard on the lips, fingers tugging on his hair as he runs his hands over the lacy material of your very exposing lingerie.
"I'd fuck my baby into you for wearing this," Jungkook curses as he traces the small lace flowers, feeling the wet material between your legs as you arch into his touch.
"Fuck me," you plead, eyes rolling to the back of your head when his fiery tongue licks your wet slit.
Jungkook focuses on the sweet taste of your cunt, his tattooed fingers pushing your lingerie out of the way as his tongue licks long stripes over your cunt, tongue swirling over your clit as your fingers thread through his hair.
"Kook!" you gasp sometime later, thighs trembling as your thighs clamp down on his head, your back arching as your orgasm hits you hard.
"That's it, baby. Come all over my tongue like a good girl," he curses, licking his lips before diving back in.
"Kook!" you gasp as you try to catch your breath. Jungkook undoes the clasps of your bodysuit before he's positioning himself between your thighs. His large hand pulls the cups down, lips wrapping hungrily around a pert nipple as he sinks into you.
Jungkook goes slow, enjoying every sweet sound that escaped you, but you're hungry for more.
"You don't have to be gentle, Koo. I won't break," you assure him and he shushes you with a kiss as he fucks you harder, rougher until you're sobbing his name when your next orgasm hits.

so one of my other problems with babyjack is that the fandom just seems to have this sort of collective cognitive dissonance about it, in almost any context or discussion. like this post as probably my only standing example (bc it’s the only one to have gotten traction), there are all these tags about how babyjack leads to bad dean criticism, or how it’s nice in aus but they want canon complex jack, and like I’m not entirely disagreeing with that, but it is so fucking frustrating that people are still ignoring the actual problem with it and either only focusing on the most surface level issues that personally affect them or their corner of the fandom, or making up some point of acceptability for it that frankly isn’t theirs to make.
it’s the autistic experience of our struggles never being seen or cared about until they become other people’s inconveniences, and our voices being used to say something else entirely. when the main takeaway of that post is how the fandom’s treatment of jack being in a way he’s explicitly shown to hate being treated directly mirrors autistic people’s struggle for autonomy in the real world, I really do not need you to make it about how it makes your golden website boy dean look like a big meanie pants, okay? that’s definitely a part of it, but it’s not at all what we are talking about, and it 100% should not be the only reason you care.
and especially when the other takeaway is how this is just a smaller scale issue that comes from autistic infantilization, the absolute last take I want to hear is that you find that infantilization acceptable as long it’s an AU or something else separated from canon. believe me, I’m beyond glad more people actually prefer canon complex jack—like, I don’t think you guys understand that that is legitimately a rarity to find here— but the thing about babyjack is that the concept itself is inherently ableist, and directly relies on his complexities (and the representation he means for us) being removed and erased so that he can even exist in the context of those AU’s. It feels very… ‘have your cake and eat it too’ to me.
I’m trying not to sound angry or accusatory, but I am also tired of having to force civility on a problem that’s pretty much just an open secret thar everyone collectively ignores and beats bushes around solely because they prioritize #domesticdestiel over all. I mean, do you guys even hear yourselves sometimes? Like half of it just boils down to “Autistic infantilization is always bad, except for this one context where it makes my ship look domestic and redeems my blorbo,” and it’s getting really fucking annoying to have to constantly explain something that is not only painfully easy to understand, but is understood and actively ignored, and still play nice so that somebody out there might listen.
So many people will say they like canon Jack and want more of him from the fandom, and I more than agree, but motherfucker you have a blog! You have the tools! Be the change you want to see! He doesn’t have to be your fav or your blog thesis blorbo, but if you want it, you are literally fully equipped to make it! Write some meta, draw some fanart, whatever. Better yet, you could even stop engaging with and perpetuating content that actively pushes down on what you want and, I must reiterate, is actively harmful and ableist. If you want domestic silliness go right ahead, but you don’t need to resort to ableism to do it.
I don’t think I’m asking too much or asking rudely, and frankly I don’t even think I owe niceties to anyone when it’s a problem that has been openly ignored for 6 years and holds plenty of bearing in the real world concerning my identity and community and shit we face constantly. Outside of our screens, we are constantly fighting for autonomy and recognition and representation, and even to be seen as people. Online spaces, especially fandom spaces, are a huge source of escapism and support that we wouldn’t get otherwise. So for the love of god, please stop bringing that fight here.

I'm confused. I don't understand how one minute, you say you ship Forwood and have Forwood content on your blog. But then most of your other posts about Caroline are bashing her and saying how she's useless, irrelevant, and annoying. Basically implying that as a person on her own and outside of her relationship, she isn't worthy and has no purpose or agency of her, and is only capable of being interesting and likable based on the guy she's with.
You're not required to like Caroline, but it doesn't take liking her to see how harmful and problematic this kind of mentality is. I don't know what's gotten into fans recently, that they suddenly have it out for Caroline, but the things I've seen being said about her lately are just not acceptable. She may not have been a perfect person, but regardless of what she did, that's no excuse for people to dog her out the way they have. I mean, you're acting as if Caroline is the devil incarnate or some kind of terrorist or something. And just because she was my favorite, doesn't mean I approved or agreed with everything she did. But unlike you and most fans, I know how to give constructive criticism and hold people accountable without having to dogpile on that person.
And as for Elena, I did like her in seasons 1-3, but seasons 4 and onwards? I'm sorry, but she was just vile and horrible. I will never stand by and defend or make excuses for someone who knew for a fact that her boyfriend raped and abused her best friend, and still chose to be with him anyway and just didn't care. Whether you like Caroline or not, regardless of you thought she was useless and all that, that doesn't change the fact that at the end of the day, Damon did rape her and abuse her in season one. It doesn't make what he did null and void. Unless you're one of those who's in denial and refuses to accept that Damon is a rapist and abuser. Or who victim blames/shames Caroline for that and says she deserved it. Which in that case, you've got bigger issues and are just as bad as all the rest of them.
Why don't you keep that same energy and aim that vitriol at characters who actually deserve it, and have done shit far worse and more abhorrent than Caroline? Like the majority of the men on the show? But I seem to have forgotten that men can do vile shit time and time again and still get defended. While if a woman makes even one mistake, she'll be burned at the stake over it for the rest of her life.
I “like” Caroline with Tyler because she’s forced upon me but when she’s with Tyler, she’s contained into that relationship and I don’t have to deal with her crap & her drama. So I liked them in sense it gives me a break from Caroline. She doesn’t have to shoved everywhere.
Tyler makes her bearable. I “ship” them in the sense of Caroline must be with someone because she’s there then I would prefer her to be with Tyler rather than anyone else on the show, I would “ship” her with Matt as well because it’s literally the same.
I never defend Damon or reblog any posts defending that rapist, it’s honestly disgusting that they actually made him & Caroline “close friends” or whatever bullshit is that. He has shown NO remorse or guilt for what he did to Caroline, or Bonnie or Stefan for that matter.
I’m disgusted that I was hardcore Delena shipper & Damon defender (never about what he did to Caroline, as a Delena shipper I just conveniently forgot what he did, no seriously I did)
Damon is an ACTUAL CREEP, hanging out with teenagers looking his age a man in his 30’s paining over a teenager he hardly knows/understands, where his whole life purpose is to just obsess with her 24/7.
It’s honestly pathetic, creepy and weak. What he couldn’t find someone closer to his age, a woman in her 20’s-30’s?
He has to go after his brother girlfriend? Why it does NOT add or make any sense and Elena is NOT at all the right fit for him in any shape or form, even if he wasn’t a rapist, creepy stalker he does NOT like WHO she is, he does NOT care about the things & people that matter to her, he mocks it, he belittles it and he literally thinks he “knows her better” because Elena has a fun side to her. He does NOT actually know her NOR UNDERSTANDS NOR love her, he loves the “nicer” version of Katherine (the only woman he actually truly loved with all her evilness) which is what Elena is to him, nothing more nothing less, Damon 100% PROJECTS Katherine into Elena but this version is actually nice to him but that’s about it.
The fact in his delusion after yeh werewolf but in 2x22 he “sees” Katherine and NOT Elena (even as Delena shipper back then I found that to very odd, because he supposedly spent the whole season hating Katherine & loving Elena yet he sees Katherine) just proves that he never actually stopped loving Katherine, she just hurt too many times and he has pride, had Katherine truly offered to be with him at any given time a real offer, I 100% know he would have taken her upon that offer and they would been the villains of the show for years (oh wait even though they weren’t together, they kind of were)
Damon is literally the male version of Katherine, the only difference Damon being a handsome “charming” MAN he was EXCUSED for all of his actions, he was DEFENDED endlessly Inter expense of other characters and freaking storylines.
The Damon the whole fandom seems to love oh so much is literally a made up Damon in their heads, I know this through my own personal experience and from how the still Delena stand defend him, this “sad little boy who was never loved hence he did all these awful things” he just needs the “love of a good woman” is what they want to believe him to be, it’s NOT who he truly is.
The reality is that Damon is pathetic, creepy, disgusting stalker/rapist and if Damon wasn’t played by such an attractive actor and played by an average looking guy who they (the make up artists)?also make him ugly with the right makeup, people would see the REAL Damon for exactly who is.
The reason you don’t like Elena S4-S6 is because that’s NOT the real Elena, the real Elena “died” when she became a vampire, her moments with Stefan before she broke up with him, that’s also the REAL Elena FIGHTING very hard to stay herself.
The Elena that’s with Damon is vampire sired Elena, and there was never an actual logical or real explanation or any kind of REAL evidence that her sire bond to Damon was ever actually broken.
The fact that she didn’t take the cure shows that NOT the real Elena, that she STILL did whatever Damon wanted (which for her to never to take the cure). Throughout S4 all she ever wanted to become human again and I would think that after her brother died to make sure they find it, that she would actually take it, if nothing else, she would take it for Jeremy’s sake so that his death actually means something.
Now onto your issue with me not liking Caroline, I literally NEVER ever liked her, not for one real minute, sure she had her moments here & there as vampire but I NEVER liked, she’s annoying af, selfish, shallow, stupid, self created and just right down BORING and stereotypical. She’s just an empty pretty vase/vessel for the writers to fill with whatever bullshit story they come up with.
I have actually tried to like her, believe it or not but I literally COULDN’T, just truly can NOT like her at all, she’s too blah as a person to me ever like or relate to in any shape or form.
Her fans/stans also just made it much worse, I didn’t like her but I have grown to hate her over the years because fans/stans such as yourself, who just can’t accept that there are people out there who hate/dislike their “precious” Caroline and nitpick onto other characters or much worse bully & give life threatening messages just because people actually “dared” to HATE their “precious” favorite Caroline, this “angelic Karen, Barbie vampire” who can do NO wrong at all, and everyone “must” be crazy about her.
Now as I have already explained everything to you, even as someone who hates/can’t stand Caroline, carline has never loved anyone to else as much as she loved Tyler, whoever ships Caroline with Klaus clearly does NOT love Caroline because she has made so very extremely and very annoyingly clear she is NOT interested in Klaus.
So if you shop Caroline & Klaus, you are shipping two people who do NOT actually exist (just like Delena or Hayley & Elijah) they are NOT their TRUE/REAL selves when these couples are shipped, simply projection of what people think these characters are.
I hope i answered everything and that next time you don’t just assume things about a person then hide behind “ anonymous” to feel as if you are a better person or whatever.

Duty swept Ayaka away a while ago, leaving you in the Masquerade Hall alone. You’ve got a vice-like grip on the once-pristine glass you’re holding that’s now riddled with sweat from your clammy palms and squished fingerprints from your constant fidgeting. You haven’t taken a single drink from it the entire time, instead holding it just to feel more like those around you. This was a bad idea from the start. And the worst part of all is that you knew it was a bad idea, but couldn’t bear the thought of turning Ayaka, your newfound best friend, away.
So you went along with it. You found an outfit elegant enough for the occasion, —the occasion being a Masquerade Ball for nobility and high-ranking government officials from all the nations of Teyvat, held in bustling inner-city Fontaine,—you chose a mask upon arrival (and were stuck with only two options, one being a slightly cracked, oddly colored fox, and the other being the obvious choice of a falcon with intricate, vine-like designs,) and you took a deep breath, hoping to simply grin and bear it.
You’re hardly an individual who can be considered “from nobility.” You come from a family of miners: hard-working, but not exactly high on the list of social status, especially in a place like Inazuma where titles often hold much weight. You don’t exactly fit in here, either. Though you spent a fair amount on your outfit, it’s painfully obvious that yours would be considered cheap if you were to compare it to anyone else’s here. It’s then that you passively start to regret not having let Ayaka have an outfit made specifically for you as she’d offered many times over. . .
“Don’t go to the trouble! Everyone will be focusing on you and Ayato, —not me. The way your outfits look is much more important!” You’d insisted at the time, and even now, you agree with the heart of your assurance.
But everytime someone so much as glances in your general direction, you fear they’re then turning back to their wealthy comrades to snicker about how “unfortunate” you must be to have shown up in something so lackluster. After all, the most expensive thing adorning your body at the moment is your earrings that aren’t even yours to begin with. Ayaka lent them to you as a last minute touch up, happily clipping them to your earlobes while mentioning that she’d never worn them before because they never seemed to match her outfits properly, “but they match yours perfectly!”
You weren’t so certain about that, but again, didn’t have the heart to turn her away.
“Care to dance?”
You nearly jump out of your skin and drop that fairly sullied glass held tight in your hand when Ayato approaches you with that request. He notes the way you flinch and quickly apologizes.
“I’m sorry,” he says, but a dangerously amused smile seems to play ever so gently on his lips just below the hem of the silver, gem-adorned cat mask that rests atop the upper half of his handsome face. “I didn’t mean to startle you.”
To say that Ayato makes you nervous would be a grave understatement. You know much of him, but have spoken to him personally very few times. Of course, being close with Ayaka has afforded you sneak peeks into parts of his life from time to time, but you’re certain that admiring him from a distance and truly knowing him are two completely different things.
It doesn’t help that you have a crush on him, —one that Ayaka thankfully has yet to pick up on, as far as you know. She likely wouldn’t be mad, but as her elder brother, Ayato feels beyond off-limits. You often feel guilty for harboring any feelings for him in the first place, so there’s no telling just how much worse that would get if you ever indulged in that attraction actively. . . Although, you doubt someone of Ayato’s status and admittedly high-levels of handsomeness would ever glance in your direction. There’s distance there that need not be filled, as far as your perception of it goes.
“That’s okay,” you manage a coherent reply before explaining: “I’m a little on edge is all. I don’t come to events like this often.”
But you’re sure he’d already deduced as much from your clothes.
“I try to avoid them when I can,” he admits in return. “The idle chatter is a rather tedious endeavor.”
You’ve heard that sentiment from Ayato before.
“I imagine it gets tiring being someone of your status at gatherings,” you acknowledge.
“Ah, you know who I am, then?” He says, almost sounding saddened by it.
Huh. . . ?
Did he really think that a simple mask would be enough to hide everything else? It’s not as if he and Ayaka both don’t stand out amongst a crowd. Even with their faces covered, it’s nearly impossible to not notice them each in their own regard. Ayaka’s giveaway is her long, powder-blue ponytail that bounces ever so slightly when she walks, as well as the way she seems to glide across the floor like she’s dancing sometimes.
And Ayato. . . His giveaway is not only his hair that might as well be sparkling under the dimmed lights of the hall, but his voice; so melodic and sweet, but confident all the same. The voice you’ve heard in passing a million times before when he enters the Kamisato Estate and you hear him walking by through the halls from Ayaka’s bedroom. He moves in ardent strides and drips with security. He lives in a completely different world from you.
“. . . Kamisato Ayato,” you say, answering his question.
His amused smile seems to falter into one of melancholy.
“Correct,” he confirms. “Being from Fontaine, I’d just assumed I’d need to introduce myself properly.”
He leaves out the part about assuming your lack of nobility or high status based on your clothing. While he can be tactless at times, he knows much better than to mention something so careless. Just as well, he still thinks you look lovely tonight, even if your outfit hadn’t been hand woven to match your every dip and curve.
“Being. . . From Fontaine?” You inquire further, feeling hopelessly confused.
Although, you must admit that it makes sense he wouldn’t recognize you. He traveled with Thoma rather than his sister after he learned that Ayaka would be bringing a friend along, so he hadn’t a clue what you’d be wearing or what mask you’d be donning. Not to mention the fact that most conversations between the two of you have been quick and in passing, Ayato simply stopping and greeting you to be polite rather than out of genuine interest. He’s busy, always rushing about from place to place, or locking himself away in his office to complete stacks of paperwork that might as well be tall enough to reach the ceiling.
It makes sense that he doesn’t really know you well enough to pick you out of a crowd, especially with a mask on the upper half of your face. Unlike you, he likely hasn’t memorized your voice. He hasn’t looked on as you grace his presence with your own, heart thumping a little faster.
“The falcon masks,” Ayato elaborates, “they’re quite popular among citizens of Fontaine, no? Perhaps I assumed too quickly.”
You should tell him. You really should. But the opportunity to be someone else before him is just so enticing that it’s hard to resist. Impossible, even.
“You’ve got a good eye,” you tell him.
It’s not really lying if you don’t outright deny his suspicions. Lying by omission, sure. . . But not simply lying.
He laughs, low and charming.
“I must agree,” Ayato answers, but somehow, it doesn’t seem to be the case that he’s referencing the falcon mask’s connotation.
If you didn’t know any better, you’d think he was flirting with you.
“The offer to dance still stands, by the way,” he says, offering his hand for you to take. “If I may?”
Without fully thinking, you begin to reach up, but stop yourself halfway. There’s a lot wrong with this situation, and you’re beginning to worry that you’re going to wind up in over your head. What if Ayaka sees? Although, that’s unlikely considering that she’d been ushered away by some very talkative businessmen from Liyue to another room entirely, and if her luck were to rear its ugly head, she might well spend the rest of the night getting an earful from them. And you know better than anyone that she wouldn’t be the type to interrupt or easily find a way to remove herself from the situation.
I should tell him.
You open your mouth to make the confession, but another spills out entirely.
“I. . . I’m not a very good dancer,” you say.
For what it’s worth, that is true. In a setting like this, you haven’t a clue how to move your feet or dance with someone else. Ayaka had offered to teach you some simple steps, but you’d insisted that it wouldn’t be of any use, and if not for Ayato’s startling request, you more than likely would have been right.
“I’m not much of one myself,” he notes, almost playfully so, “but I can lead a few choppy steps, if you’d give me the honor.”
He’s persistent, but not pushy. You know you can decline and he won’t be upset. . . But his hand is right there, outstretched to you of all people, and it’s hard not to feel like the luckiest person in the world.
So you take him up on his offer and let your fingers softly grace the flat of his palm. He offers you another smile, although you can't seem to read between the lines of this one, and he places your sullied glass on a passing collection tray. As promised, he leads you in an easy dance, whispering to you the directions you should step the first few times as he seeks to ease you into the movements.
"You're a natural," he compliments, though you're sure he's only being polite.
You gaze up at him through the wide slits in your falcon mask, quickly finding his eyes behind the holes of his own. Even under the shadow cast from his feline disguise, you can see the bright, heart-melting periwinkle sparkle of his irises. You've never before had the opportunity to gaze up at him like this, but you quickly subvert your gaze to the ground, pretending to watch your feet as you move slowly in his wake. He's so. . . Perfect. So much so that it's driving you wild.
To dance with someone like him at an event like this is a dream come true; but in the back of your mind, you know it wouldn't ever truly last. He'll move on, find someone of higher status, whether by way of choice or pressure to do so. He'll never think twice about you once this night has passed.
"Your eyes are beautiful," he says in a low, whispered voice.
Your heart all but palpitates at the compliment. It feels so sincere, —like it's not just something he's saying because he wants to have a fleeting love affair with someone he thinks to be from another nation. This behavior of his, if a bit reckless, is genuine. . . Maybe even devastatingly so.
"I-I don't know about that," you answer with a brief stumble, quickly finding your verbal balance once more, "—but thank you. That's nice of you to say."
His fingers, once loosely hooked around the tippy top of your hip, relax to a semi-firm hold. Like it or not, every touch is melting you down even more, and even the thought of being caught by Ayaka has completely slipped your mind. You don't have the will to fight these feelings away for the time being. It's hard to not live in the moment when every graze of his fingertips electrifies your nervous system and leaves you tingling from head to toe.
As you dance with Ayato to the soft, violin-heavy music that plays in the background, you lose yourself. You can't help it. Everything is too intoxicating, and though you've purposefully avoided all the alcoholic drinks tonight, you've found yourself lost and delirious all the same.
Kamisato Ayato. . . It's all your fault. . .
"If I may," you request softly, "why did you ask me to dance with you? Out of everyone else, I mean."
His answer is quick and concise, as if he didn't even need to consider it. Or, perhaps it was more so that he'd been waiting for such a question all along.
“You seemed to be the only person here who wanted nothing from me at all.”
It’s hardly difficult to imagine all the people that have likely approached him tonight in need of something here and another there. . . Ayaka began dealing with very similar things the moment she entered the hall. You’d been on your own for most of the night, chatting with her in between the exhausting conversations about politics, foreign affairs, and other things you have little to no experience with outside of being her companion. You know little more than the average person even still, as Ayaka prefers to keep business and friendships as very separate endeavors.
“It must be rough,” you acknowledge, “. . . I doubt I could manage even half as well as you do if I were in your place.”
“You flatter me,” Ayato smiles again, “but I’m hard-pressed to believe you. I have a feeling you could manage just fine.”
Again, it’s so genuine that it almost stings.
“Beyond that,” he continues, reaching up with a single hand to push his mask up to the side, revealing his full face to you, “I’m interested to know more about you. What brings you to this event?”
Your sister.
“Um. . . Nothing really in particular,” you reply vaguely, hoping to leave it at that.
He doesn’t press it, though he is curious as to what your answer means. Something about the way your kind eyes flicker up at him, and then quickly away again almost sheepishly, is familiar to him somehow. . . Not that Ayato is any stranger to nervous eye contact.
“Might I ask for your name then?” He inquires.
Your heart begins to race. What are you to do in this situation that you’re completely and utterly unprepared for? If you’re honest, what happens if he recalls the day you introduced yourself to him officially? It’s not much of a longshot to assume that Ayaka has spoken of you to her elder brother, and though he may not know you personally at all, he likely knows of you. But you’re drawing a blank and can’t seem to think of any fake names to offer him that don’t sound completely and utterly ridiculous. The silence between the two of you, while having only lasted for a few seconds by now, seems deafening.
Just when you’ve decided to succumb and let the pieces fall where they may in order to avoid the long-term embarrassment, a saving grace seems to swoop by with slicked back hair and a gaudy suit on. A man you’ve never seen before approaches Ayato and all but pulls him away from you, as if you had never existed in the first place. . . And maybe in their world, the one Ayato lives with the rest of his wealthy, noble counterparts, you never truly did. He’d interrupted you as if you were little more than dirt on his shoe.
“Mr Kamisato, it’s been quite a while! I’ve recently heard news that the state of affairs in Inazuma has been faring quite nicely since you were given a higher position. Though I’m sure the work is tedious, I imagine the results have been pleasing for both yourself and. . .”
You’re out of earshot before the man finishes, having slipped out of Ayato’s grip and back into reality. With murmured apologies, you slip through the crowd and into another room altogether, spotting Ayaka in the far corner. You can tell her smile is strained, but there isn’t much you can do to help her. In fact, there’s really nothing you can do at all. So instead, you slip out onto the balcony of the building, desperately in need of some fresh air.
It’s cold out here, and though lots of people are mingling inside, you feel alone, —completely isolated in your own little prison. You slip the mask off your face and hold it in your hands, trying your best to hold back tears as you crane your neck to look up at the sky. Stars seem to twinkle amongst the inky expanse above, but their joyous concert falls on deaf ears. A small sob bubbles up your throat.
To make matters worse, you reach up to hastily wipe away your shameful tears, only to find that one of your earrings is missing. One of Ayaka’s earrings. You know you have to find it, but you can’t will your legs to move. Even more so, you know you don’t exactly look your best right now, and the thought of letting anyone see you this way is completely humiliating.
You resign yourself to huddling against your knees, back pressed to the wall in the far corner where you can’t be seen from the inside. There, you let yourself cry for a few minutes, —allowing yourself to feel every inch of sorrow and discomfort, thinking maybe it’ll make you feel better. It doesn’t. . . At least not really, anyway. So much had been right, and then so much had been wrong. Or, maybe everything had been wrong the entire time and you were just too caught up in the moment to realize it.
By the time your tears stop flowing and you’ve leveled your breathing out, someone has joined you on the balcony.
“Y/n?”
His voice is familiar, almost comforting in the moment. You draw your gaze up to meet his eyes from where you’re sitting.
“Thoma. . .”
“Is everything okay?” He inquires, softly adding: “if there’s something you need to talk about, I’ll be glad to lend an ear.”
You give a bitter laugh, mostly at yourself. He’s just being kind, as he always is, in true Thoma fashion.
“I just don’t think I belong here,” you tell him.
“All the fancy clothes and all the jewels, —all the people with more Mora than I’ll likely ever see in my entire lifetime. People who’ve lived most of their lives well off, doing things I can only do now because of my friendship with Ayaka. . . And even then, it’s clear that I just don’t fit in. The divide between myself and everyone else is wide enough to swallow me whole.”
Thoma gets it, probably more than you might expect. With how well he’s integrated himself into the Kamisato siblings’ way of life, it’s almost too easy to forget that Thoma is much like you. He often accompanies the two on various trips, aiding in their schedules, sometimes taking care of the finer details. His official title is that of a housekeeper, but he does much more than just that behind the scenes of it all.
“I understand where you’re coming from,” he tells you gently. “I really do. It’s not easy sometimes, even for me, and I’ve been to dozens of events like these.”
“Could’ve fooled me,” you reply with a soft smile, “you look the part, and I’m sure you play it well enough.”
“I certainly didn’t at first. I was completely overwhelmed, and probably feeling a lot like you are right now. Completely lost and afraid to make any mistakes, worried that everyone was judging me no matter what I was doing, as if everyone could see right through the nice suit I was wearing and the smile I was trying so hard to keep plastered on my face.”
“And it’s like everyone just knows somehow that you’re not meant to be here, that you’re not cut out for this kind of environment, and they’re all just standing around waiting for you to mess up and completely humiliate yourself or something,” you add bitterly.
“At the same time though, you seem to be invisible,” he continues. “People maneuver around you and disregard your existence sometimes, —as if you’re so insignificant that they couldn’t be bothered to give you the time of night.”
“Exactly,” you sigh deeply.
“But,” Thoma says, optimistically so, “a lot of that is all in your head. Most people don’t come to these kinds of events to poke fun at others, and the rude people only stand out because you’re already focusing on all the negatives. At the end of the day, someone like you. . . People like us, —we have just as much a right to be here as anyone else.”
“I do believe that’s true,” you acknowledge.
“I just. . . Wish that everyone else believed that it was true as well.”
“Well, whether certain individuals like it or not, here we are,” he says candidly.
You smile.
“Thank you for talking with me, Thoma,” you say.
“My pleasure,” he replies, eyes slitting into little crescent moons as he gives you another smile.
Just when he’s about to comment on how chilly it’s gotten as the night has deepened and suggest that the both of you head back inside, another man steps out onto the balcony.
“Thoma,” Ayato says, “have you seen Ayaka by any cha—”
He stops himself mid-sentence when he realizes that you’re sitting in the darkest corner of the balcony, arms wrapped around your knees.
“Nevermind,” he withdraws his previous question, “. . . would you mind giving us a bit?”
Thoma asks no questions, simply nods his head and does as was asked of him. He slips back inside and moves away from the entrance to the balcony, just to be clear that he has no plans of eavesdropping on whatever conversation is about to take place.
You have a hard time even looking up at him now, nonetheless meeting his eyes. It’s far too late to pull the falcon mask over your upper face again, so with no hope of hiding your appearance now, you take a quick breath in and resign yourself to whatever outcome is waiting on the horizon.
Ayato seems as calm, cool, and collected as he always does. It’s almost intimidating now.
Before he speaks, he offers his hand to you for the second time tonight. Once more, you take it. It’s warmer the second time around. . . He helps you to your feet and doesn’t mention that your eyes are puffy or that your face is a little tear-stained.
“It’s a bit cold,” he notes, slipping the jacket of his suit off in order to drape it over your shoulders.
It smells like him, and you don’t have the will to hand it back. Your shaking hands grip at either side, pulling the jacket around yourself a little tighter.
“Thank you,” you say in a voice barely above a whisper.
“I suppose I did presume too quickly that you hailed from Fontaine,” he comments.
There’s no hint of bitterness in his voice, —in fact, there’s little more than a silent understanding. You’re not certain of how much he’s been able to grasp from your brief interaction, but you have a sneaking suspicion that your feelings for him are no longer a complete secret. Which is embarrassing, of course, but. . . It could always be worse.
“I’m sorry,” you apologize, nearly choking on the words as they bubbled up from the back of your throat. “I know that I’ve put you in an awkward position, and that truly wasn’t my intention, I just. . .”
You trail off, uncertain of what to say. You don’t really know what happened. It was like you were being swept away, completely overtaken by the way his warmth seeped from his palm to the tips of your fingers. Selfishly, when you had the opportunity to touch someone you’d long thought to be out of reach, you couldn’t manage to turn him away.
“There’s no need for you to apologize,” Ayato assures you. “I’m the one who asked you to dance, after all. It was my mistake not recognizing you much sooner. You did feel familiar to me somehow, but I couldn’t seem to place it.”
You stay silent, unsure of what you’re supposed to say in reply, or even if you’re supposed to reply at all.
“Ah,” he says, as if a lightbulb has gone off over his head, “that reminds me.”
His long, lithe fingers fumble around in his pocket for a moment or two before he removes them and holds a dangling crystal between them. Your eyes widen a bit at the sight of Ayaka’s earring, —one half of the pair you thought you’d lost for good.
“I realized who you were after you’d rushed away,” he explains. “These earrings were a gift from a member of Liyue’s Qixing given to Ayaka last summer. I recognized this one the moment I saw it on the floor at the tip of my shoe. The pieces came together easily after that.”
Ayato turns to the side, bringing the earring close to you.
“May I?”
You nod in approval, and he says nothing more, instead reaching out to brush a few loose strands of hair out of your face and tucking them behind your ear. He then clips the earring to your earlobe before pulling his hands away and returning them promptly to his sides.
You swallow the lump that’s formed in your throat.
“I really am sorry,” you tell him, “even if you don’t think I have to be. The truth is that I was happy when you asked me to dance and once I realized you didn’t recognize me, I thought that if you knew who I was, you’d have taken the offer back. So I didn’t say anything.”
“I wouldn’t have taken the offer back,” he says firmly.
“When I told you that I wanted to dance with you because you were the only person in the room that I didn’t feel wanted me to do something for them, I meant that. And I meant it when I said your eyes are beautiful as well, —because they are. Especially now. They reflect starlight like the surface of the ocean.”
You clam up in the face of such a bold compliment. Ayato makes it hard for you to breathe sometimes. And as if to emphasize his points, he offers his hand to you for the third time that night.
“Would you like to dance with me? No masks, no interruptions. . . Just the two of us and the waxing moon.”
With your heart pounding like a drum, you take him up on his offer yet again. It feels much more intimate now that you’re away from everyone else, his hands stationed along your hips and your hands resting on his shoulders. You decide then and there that when this party ends, you’re going to be honest with Ayaka about your feelings for her elder brother. Whether this goes anywhere between you and Ayato is one thing, but not telling Ayaka the truth is another, and she’s likely deserved to know all along. Avoiding it has given you a lot of grief, and with these sudden and fully unexpected developments happening as they are, you know it’s better to be honest with her now and not blindside her with this later if things end up getting serious.
Hopefully, everything will turn out okay in the end.
You have a feeling it will.
But for now, you’re content where you are, dancing with Ayato under the light of a thousand stars.

Fuyume Hanamura Idol Story 2
Tumblr media
ーA basic studio within the ES building, two years since the establishment of ES
Fuyume: …
Midori: …
(What am I supposed to do?)
(This new kid…Hanamura-san, was it? The staff told him that I'm going to be using my experience in the field to guide him through today’s job.)
(It’s already been a whole 20 minutes since then and neither of us have said a word to each other..)
Fuyume: …
Midori: (I-I have to do what they told me to and teach him what he needs to do. I know I suck at this stuff but between the two of us, I’m the one who’s more familiar with this type of work.)
(But there’s no way I can bring myself to do it. I really, really don’t want to.)
(This kid is radiating an aura that screams ‘don’t talk to me’...this whole time, he’s been doing something on his phone while occasionally whispering and muttering to himself.)
(I think…he’s even been taking selfies and posting them online…?)
(It feels like he’s in a world of his own making.)
(I’m scared~, I don’t like it~ , I don’t wanna talk to him~...)
(Now that I think about it, he was there listening when the staff put me in charge of coaching him so he must know what’s going on too.)
(He should be turning to me and saying something like ‘Please give me your guidance, Senpai!’. It’s the polite thing to do, really.)
Fuyume: …Um.
Tumblr media
Midori: !? Y-Yes? What’s the matter…?
Fuyume: …They’re calling Yume.
Midori: (Huh, what does that mean? Is he one of those people that hear voices that aren’t there? Is he crazy?)
Fuyume: It looks like it’s time for Yume to go up now.
Midori: (Oh, right, the staff are calling for him. Seems like they’re ready to start the shoot.)
(What do I do? I didn’t teach him how to do a single thing.)
(From what I’ve heard, it sounds like this kid is a popular amateur model? I think they call it a cos…player?)
(There’s no need for me to come in acting high and mighty and tell him what to do, right?)
(I bet he’s already familiar with how these jobs work. He seems so confident for some reason…?)
Fuyume: Fufufu. Yume will do his best.
Today, you’re all invited to step into Yume’s world
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fuyume: Sniffle. Sniffle sniffle.
Midori: (What am I supposed to do?)
(All that confidence he was giving off was just a front…)
(He doesn’t know the first thing about professional modelling and kept insisting on using methods from his amateur days.)
(I wonder what that one staff member did to have this kid going off at him the entire time? Just when I thought he’s behaving well, he suddenly started berating and denying that guy’s humanity.)
(Not to mention all the complaints he has about the lighting or the costume...)
(He started telling the staff to take pictures from his cutest angle and even asked to wear the outfit he had brought along himself.)
(After all the back and forth, it was agreed to put the shoot on hold for a while. When this guy realised the staff weren’t going to listen to his opinions, that's when the tears started...)
(The staff asked me to see if I could do something to motivate him or change his mindset but…is that even in the job description? Shouldn’t this be the responsibility of a manager or something?)
(Who am I kidding? We probably wouldn’t be in this mess if I had just done my job and shown him what to do from the start.)
(I’m at fault here too, so I feel like I should at least do something.)
Tumblr media
Fuyume: Midori-sama.
Midori: Huh? Yes, what’s…wait, ‘Midori-sama’ ?
Fuyume: Yume has seen you in a magazine before and thought you were as dashing as a prince. Fufu.
So you’re Midori-sama. ‘Cause you’re a prince. Fufufu.
Needless to say, you don’t have what it takes to be called Yume’s prince, since that title is already taken by another.
There is no sin in beauty. Fufufufu.
Midori: (Huh…? What is he talking about…? I don’t understand a word that’s coming out of his mouth. Are all the kids like this these days…?)
(Hey, wait a second? He’s acting surprisingly unfazed for somebody that I thought was crying into his hands just a minute ago? Was he faking it…?)
Fuyume: Melon soda, plum and kelp tea, coffee.
Midori: ? What? Are you casting some kind of spell?
Fuyume: I’m trying to make the drink that Esu found during his adventure. What else was in it again…?
Midori: I-It’s going to taste awful if you mix so many random flavours together.
Fuyume: I’ll be able to drink it. I will drink it. I want to relive Esu’s story for myself.
Bottoms up. Glug glug…
……
Tumblr media
Fuyume: …
Midori: Tastes awful, huh…? I warned you not to drink it. You can tell just from looking at it how bad of an idea that is.
Here, spit it into this cup.
Fuyume: Urgh, Yume has a long way to go.
His image of a perfect princess is still far out of reach.
—I’m sorry, Midori-sama.
Midori: Uh, for what? I can’t keep up with this conversation…
Fuyume: Yume messed up again…he couldn’t keep his ego in check and screwed up the job. He even made Midori-sama mad.
So…Yume is sorry.
Midori: Oh, uh, you did cause a lot of problems but…no, nevermind, that’s not true. I should be apologising too. I was trusted to be your mentor but I haven’t taught you a single thing.
I’ve failed as a senpai, huh?
Fuyume: It’s alright. Besides, even if you had given Yume some pointers, if he didn’t like what he heard, he'd probably just get annoyed and ignore you.
He’s always been like this—so egotistical. It’s the only princess quality he has.
Regardless, Yume is sorry. The staff member that Yume was blowing up at was someone he had met before. They'd shown up to one of Yume’s photo shoots in the past with a super bigheaded attitude.
They were giving out business cards and masquerading as a professional. It was seriously the worst, they started taking over and ruined the mood on set.
A photo shoot is supposed to be a part of Yume’s world.
Ever since that day, Yume hasn’t been able to forget all the hate and frustration that he felt. When he saw that they were here today, he couldn’t stop his emotions from bursting out.
Yume can’t stand being in their line of sight. He hates being treated like a toy and having that person making up their own ideas of him…so, uhm, he’s sorry.
Yume honestly never wanted to cause all this trouble for you.
Yume was hoping we could get along…he wanted to talk to you but he was too embarrassed and nervous to know how to.
You looked like you were in a bad mood today, Midori-sama. The vibe you were giving off made it seem like you didn’t want anyone to approach you.
Tumblr media
Midori: (Oh…)
(So we both had the same impression of each other…I should’ve known that he’d be feeling nervous about his first professional job.)
(Even I was feeling anxious when I first arrived on set.)
(I know how it feels to be in his position…that’s exactly why they asked me to be his mentor today.)
(I’m terrible, aren’t I? I’m never going to make any growth.)
Hanamura-san.
Fuyume: Yes?
Midori: Let’s go and apologise to the staff once you’ve had a drink and taken a moment to calm down.
Fuyume: Yume doesn’t want to apologise.
Midori: Oh…okay, I understand. If you want, I can go and ask for the staff member that doesn't like you to be removed.
It’s within our right to request things like that. You can even step away from jobs you don’t want to do too.
Fuyume: …
Midori: That being said, if we don’t do our jobs properly, we’ll cause problems for even those that don’t have anything against you, Hanamura-san.
We'll end up being hated and labelled as 'someone I don't want to work with' by the people around us.
Fuyume: Yume hates being hated.
Midori: Then let’s go and give them a proper apology. Once we’ve done that, we can focus on finishing off the job.
It might be late, but I’ll teach you the correct methods to use. Since I’m your senpai, I’ll make sure I put you on the right path.
Admittedly, this’ll be tough for me…I’m not important enough to be bossing people around, and I suck at talking to people too.
Fuyume: Mm…Yume isn’t good at it either. People always seem to get confused when he tries to have a normal conversation with them. It’s weird.
Midori: That was meant to be a normal conversation earlier…? You really do live in a world of your own.
(Crap, I didn’t mean to say that out loud. He’s probably going to get mad at me now. Judging by the way he seems to hate being challenged, I’ll bet that he always had his way in the amateur world.)
Fuyume: Fufufu. Thank you, Midori-sama.
Midori: (Huh? He took it surprisingly well? This kid doesn't make any sense to me…)
Fuyume: Yume wants to put his world on display for everyone to see.
He's grateful that you noticed its existence.
You made Yume happy, so Yume must thank you.
Fufufufu, Yume just had a sudden burst of motivation. He’s going to turn over a new leaf and do the very best he can to make sure this job is a success.
Midori: R-Right…I’m glad you’ve found some motivation.
I’ll do some reflecting of my own and give it my all too.
Let’s work together to finish this job, Hanamura-san.
Fuyume: Stop saying ‘Hanamura-san’, Yume wants you to call him ‘Yume’ instead. It’s been getting on his nerves all day. Yume doesn’t feel like working anymore.
Midori: Whaaat…?

I truly believe in my heart that white westerners have no empathy. Not all of them, but most of them. They have no empathy for those who are not white. That’s why they can only empathise with POC stories when they are recontextualised in a white lens. They can’t empathise with the Palestinians, but they can empathise with that Hunger Games girl, Katniss. They can’t empathise with Armenians, the Sudanese, the Congolese, etc, but they can empathise with The Handmaid’s Tale. When Ukraine happened, they all said “this doesn’t happen to people like us”. They can empathise with “Israel” because Israelis are white in their eyes.
Not that I had any, but I have lost all faith in white westerners, especially liberals. At least conservatives let me know that they hate me from the get go. they don’t pretend to love me like the liberals do.
ay i honestly agree. i don't mean to sound super defeatist but the white westeners have shown time and time again how much they just do not care about non-white people, and that they can never understand what it's like to live without white privilege. of course, not all white westerners are like this, but as you said, most of them are. and it is genuinely sickening how awful they are at TRYING to pretend they're empathetic. they only care about rebellion if it's star wars or the hunger games or something, where everyone is white. but the second you bring up real poc struggles suddenly they demonize you and simply cannot understand why you are fighting back. and so many people don't even understand how traumatizing it is being non-white is in a white supremacist world. i only hope one day people will understand and learn to take a stand with the oppressed, but i don't see that really happening soon. the west is rotten to the core and it MUST fall in order for the world to progress.

I’m not sure if it’s ok for me to ask you this but I really like your posts and the way you interpret. Disclaimer: I am not antielain but I get confused with her sometimes. If anything I say comes off harsh I apologize and plz kno I didn’t mean that way. Just heads up this will be long
I guess I sometimes think ppl expect almost too much from elain. Part of it is because we don’t know much of her character/personality. Like ppl expect that she’ll do a complete 180 and prove us all wrong. I do think she will prove us wrong but not like that I guess? Not so drastic? I’m thinking similar to how Nesta grew in her book where it wasn’t a complete flip of her personality but it was a build up on it. I personally think that’s the whole point of these books it’s to learn to give love to ourselves (via the characters) rather than change ourselves or personalities”for the good of others”
So I think ppl associate bubbly chatty extremely giving bighearted personality to elain bc of how she was as human, before her life changed completely. But I don’t even see her as that back then? Basically there is a “type” I see assigned to her by fans and for me it’s just not quite there.
There is so much anti-elain content out there so I understand wanting to contradict that and disprove the haters. And I don’t mean to bash anyone, but I guess envisioning her in one “appropriate” way by fans is strange. I hear too many what ifs about her and ppl getting upset at those who don’t agree with the what ifs of her personality/character (those “what ifs” are treated like gospel)
Additionally- I saw a post of yours mention that elain might be disturbed about feyre’s pregnancy and how she might be upset with herself for not being acquainted with her powers to foresee it and I honestly love that. it’s an exciting addition to look forward to about elain, but couldn’t sjm have mentioned that in nesta’s book? Like a scene where the three sisters talk about it or something?? This is what I mean about seeing a lot of expectations for elain’s character. Dont get me wrong I love this idea and I theres a good chance e it’s true, but I have to see it be shown for her character and so far I’ve been given nothing. Also why didn’t anyone tell Elain that the childbirth could harm feyre?? Maybe she could’ve done something! That could add to Elain’s character right! Even if Elain isn’t involved with ic stuff that’s her sister. I mean, Elain was smiling at her sis by the end (could be hiding her pain of sisters almost-death maybe?). Do we really have to wait for Elain’s book to know that she was disturbed by the events of feyre’s childbirth?
An anti-elain thing I see is that she’s not very bright. I don’t agree with this. I’m thinking if she was always aware what was going on bw nesta and feyre could she have done nothing? Especially since nesta has said she would do anything for Elain’s happiness. What of feyre’s happiness u know?
Elain never hurt others like Nesta did but when it’s pointed out how kind she is, I do believe it, but I can’t help but wonder if she showed that kindness to her sister Feyre. Like Feyre is so quick to say that about Elain, and Elain did own up to her mistakes, but it’s hard not to imagine how Feyre must have felt as a kid. feyre is so sure of Elain’s love for her I’m just wondering where that surety comes from because as a reader there’s a bit of a disconnect to what makes feyre feel that way. Could it be feyre’s guilt of them turning fae? And then elain never blaming her sis for it? I think maybe a little of it is that feyre understands elain. Do you think elain is a dreamer im the sense that she wishes good things for all people? Elain did had a chance at happiness due to her family’s love for her, maybe id like to see more of it reflected for her family? Do something big for them? I know she shows them affection constantly, and i love that I think it’s so sweet, but it still doesn’t tell me enough about her. As of now, Elain to me comes off as someone who puts herself first (not selfish but just knows her worth, not self destructive like nesta ), which will be exciting to see from the classic self-sacrificial type of fantasy mc, she is someone who maybe isn’t always quite aware of what she needs to do but she was the will and desire for it, and lastly, though she focuses on her well being she is still aware of the feelings and concerns of those around her.
I guess I see that elain has some flaws and I’m okay with it. She’s probably hard on herself like Nesta is to herself. And I think she’ll probably still have a few hiccups along the way in her book which is always exciting in a book. I don’t tell myself that she’s this perfect, sweet, summerflower child who’s never done anything wrong. I think she is currently lost snd For now, could be changed later)I think that maybe this is the first or one of the few times where elain isn’t the one fully happy while others around her are l so it’s a new thing for her to understand, navigate, and find the happiness within herself and around her (she’s already doing some of that). Maybe she always found the happiness around her from things being good but now needs to find it within? Also she is now finding the part of herself she’s always maybe wanted to. Or now needs to be due to now being fae.
And why would it be wrong if she’s imperfect? What is this obsession with her being perfect knows it all who doesn’t owe anyone anything? Since the fandom likes to talk about these characters like they’re real- elain would most certainly not think of herself that way.
Maybe I’m not seeing it all clearly of her character? Sometimes it is hard for me to keep her character and personality separate I admit. I know she loves her family, I know she’s concerned about a lot that’s going on, but we only get like 1 instance of her showing anything and that’s it. So when the characters just keep saying this and that about Elain’s traits, but Elain is shown having that trait or quality once im ?? Where you at girl?
Ultimately I tell myself that it doesn’t matter how a character begins but rather how and what they grow into. I think being turned fae has forced her to do a lot of growing up (I don’t mean this in a bad way at all. As a reader, I think it’s v interesting)I’m willing to bet if sjm had done more planning from the start i would feel entirely different. I think im at a confusing spot with her character, but at a 100% hopeful&optimistic for her story kind of spot.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and If you don’t answer I completely understand. Frankly, I don’t want to add to any anti-elain discourse ( or even anti- nesta I love her) My intention wasn’t at all to bash Elain’s character. I am absolutely not an anti but if anything comes off sounding anti I apologize. I’m looking for some discussion and understanding of her honestly. I think the most important knowledge I’ve gained from your blog is that elain shouldn’t and can’t be compared to the other female characters of this series especially her sisters. I mean, none of the characters should even be compared, but yeah expecting her to be exactly the way her sisters are is not the way to go about understanding her character. I love your posts about elain and I very much like Elain thanks to you. I’m lowkey obsessed with elucien bc of you. and your posts are what got me interested in her character since you pay attention to her in such a healthy way.
Nothing you said came off harsh at all and I was excited to receive your message!
This is going to be long and rambling so I apologize in advance.
I absolutely agree that some seem to expect too much from Elain, both right now and later, especially when SJM has given us quite a bit of growth from her already and she's not going to become a completely different person.
She started off the series kind but fine with allowing herself to be taken care of. She still had thoughtful moments though, she used her "allowance" from Feyre to buy Feyre paints and to buy her father a new chisel rather than using it all on herself.
But by the end of ACOTAR, she started taking care of Feyre, planning the ball to honor her return, finding her a dress, preparing a horse and a satchel for her.
In ACOMAF, we see her apologize for failing Feyre, we see her willing to risk her engagement by letting Feyre use their manor to meet with the human queens.
In ACOWAR, after she had lost everything, she only spent weeks (maybe 2 months) sitting silently in her room in a depressed state. Then she started learning how to bake (and now helps cook for the IC) and thought of a way to help the humans, by having them head to Graysen's estate. Then she was cruelly rejected by Graysen, was kidnapped a second time but still helped save Briar and Az, then saved Cassian and Nesta (as well as many others) when she stabbed the king but then saw her fathers murdered body.
Though she mourned those things in ACOFAS, she still did not regress. She continued taking care of Feyre and Rhys's garden, began helping those in Velaris with their gardens, continued cooking for the IC. Then in SF we see her stand up to Nesta, see her offer to search for the Trove, see her go to the Hewn Cith with the others despite Feyre offering to let her stay home and despite the fact that it's cruelty bothers her.
I honestly don't know how anyone could expect anything else out of her before her own book and even after her own book, she's not going to morph into someone unrecognizable. She's not going to become a bloodthirsty, dagger wielding spy who thrives on going after the enemy and plotting their demise.
I see some claim she needs to get fed up with the others holding her back, where she'll head off on her own or seek out Lucien to help her. But where in Elain's personality has she ever shown to be rash? Where has she ever shown to be that angry with her sisters that she's going to go behind their backs to prove something? It's exactly like you said, Nesta's arc made sense for Nesta because that was within Nesta's personality.
If Elain has a problem, she addresses it with the person (as we saw in her argument with Nesta) and moves on. She was laughing by the end of SF when Nesta said "fuck you". She nearly watched Feyre and her nephew die in front of her. At the end of SF, Elain and Feyre were beaming at Nesta while Elain held Nyx in her arms.
Where in that is anyone getting the "I'm mad and I'm going to prove them all wrong!" vibe from Elain?
I have a feeling Elain's setup will be that of Rhys coming to Elain for help with something in Spring or the continent and that will kickstart her book. She's already told us that "she's part of the court and will do what is necessary" so all that we need to have happen is Rhys finally asking her to get her hands dirty. Her setup doesn't need to look like Nesta's did.
I do think we're going to see a different version of Elain when she's around her people (Lucien, Vassa, Helion, Jurian, the LoA), but to me that's kind of a given based on SJMs pattern of the FMC coming into her own once she's with her found family. So I do think we'll get more of the outgoing, life of the party version of Elain that we saw in ACOTAR, at least the Elain once she was overseeing their new manor and at the ball.
To your point about Elain feeling guilty, I don't think, if Elain were taking the events of Feyre's pregnancy onto herself, SJM would necessarily tell us that in SF. For one thing, Elain doesn't often share her deepest sorrows and regrets with her sisters. We know she's mourning her father because we're told how often she visited his grave but it's not because she sat down and had a deep heart to heart with Nesta or Feyre over it. Just like we had to wait for SF to see Nesta's complicated emotions over her fathers death, I think we'll have to wait for Elain's book to get inside her head and understand how she's processing everything that has been happening. For another, the end of SF was meant to wrap up Nesta's arc. We were meant to walk away with that HEA vibe for her character, not necessarily focusing on anyone else. I think SJM subtly hinted that we're about to have Elain's story when she closed out the book with the rose carving, when Nesta lets go this symbol of Elain and releases it into the world as a "permanent marker of beauty and good" but I don't think she wanted us majorly focusing on anyone else outside of Nesta and her journey.
For anyone calling Elain dumb, I think ACOFAS and SF prove how intelligent and aware Elain is. After Elain talks of traditions, Feyre notes her wisdom. In SF, Cassian notes how Elain had seen everything about Nesta and understood.
SJM has confirmed that Elain is a quiet dreamer, that she has a different strength than Feyre or Nesta, and that she expresses love openly in a way that Nesta always struggled with so I don't think we can deny those aspects of her personality, I'm not sure why people keep trying to claim her story can only happen if she spirals down the way Nesta did or until she gets angry at their treatment of her. I think it's more important to respect that because Elain is so different from her sisters, the start of her book might look different than what some expect and maybe she's going to simply internalize her frustrations then talk it out with them in her book. If she's even harboring resentment. I mean, SJM already had Elain call Nesta out for treating her like a child, she joined the others in the Hewn City as "part of the court", and she was laughing when Nesta swore at her and nearly lost both Nesta and Feyre at the end of the book so maybe Elain isn't really worried about resenting her sisters right now, maybe she's just glad they're all safe and alive.
I do think Feyre and Nesta see certain aspects of Elain's personality but as all sisters do, I think sometimes they are blinded by other aspects. I also think they at times see her in a way that makes them feel better about things. Like Nesta assuming Elain was fine and settled at the start of SF only for Elain to remind them that she's struggling too. However, I do think Elain isn't truly Elain around them either, that she hides some of who she is. Like Rhys said, she may have been worried about disappointing them.
And yes, Elain has flaws (as they all do). It's funny that some will claim she's one dimensional while complaining about her flaws in the next breath. If she's canonically kind, loving and makes them all laugh at times while also being flawed....then how can she be one dimensional? I think it's because some are expecting her character to look like that of Feyre or Nesta's characters and the other badass female warriors in the series (or her other series). And that's a very narrow minded view, to only think someone is interesting if they look like every other single warrior heroine that SJM has written.
And despite her flaws, she has never lashed out at the other characters and I don't think she's given enough credit for that. She was afraid of the fae yet willingly opened up her home to them, has treated Feyre's found family with kindness from the start, made sure Feyre had a special cake for her birthday and has never blamed Feyre for what happened to her, held Feyre when Feyre was breaking down after Elain's kidnapping (so yes, I do think she has shown Feyre kindness ever since Feyre returned to the human lands in book 1).
Like you said, it's not that she's so much selfish as in "I do what I want regardless of how it affects others" so much as 1) she is more of an optimist and it's not easy for an optimist to understand a pessimists pov because optimists are constantly trying to focus on what's good and 2) she does seem to have a sense of her own worth and isn't going to beat herself down the way Nesta did, at least not to the extreme level did. She can still struggle with things while not self sabotaging. It's the same with Az and Lucien. Both Az and Lucien struggle with self worth and trauma but only one of the two is constantly trying to risk his life in foolish ways, arguing against orders, fixating on things he has no control over (i.e. Mor / mating bonds), brooding, distancing himself from the group. The other, despite his sadness, tries his best to focus on what he can control and I think that's Elain to a tee (T?).
And Elain has been open about the things she wants but she's never forced others to do them for her. For example, Nesta asked Elain whether she wanted to head to Prythian in book 2 or stay and Elain said she had to stay. Because she was engaged. So logically, it makes sense that she would. But never did she insist that Nesta had to stay with her, Nesta chose to stay. Elain should be allowed to make her own choices without someone calling her selfish.
I think she definitely could be labeled as selfish in the first two chapters of ACOTAR but I don't think we can say the same by the end of that first book. Some will claim Elain was selfish for bringing up their father to Nesta when, if she were observant as is claimed, she should have seen Nesta didn't want to talk about him, but.....Elain should be able to talk to her sister about their father because Elain lost him too. The trauma of their fathers death did not soley belong to Nesta (especially considering Elain actually loved him meaning she lost someone she was extremely close with) and while Nesta had a right to say she didn't want to talk about him, Elain is not wrong for attempting to bring him up in the first place.
And your comment:
"Ultimately I tell myself that it doesn’t matter how a character begins but rather how and what they grow into"
is hitting the nail on the head. Elain was meant to start in one place then grow from there but she's not going to grow into her full self until she's with the right people in the right place. I think the reason Elain's personality doesn't jump out to many is because she's not in the right place with the right people, just like Feyre wasn't fully herself in Spring and only came into who she was meant to be once she was in the NC. And maybe the reason there was more room for SJM to show us Nesta's personality was because as soon as Nesta ended up in the NC, she was with the right people in the right place. Her struggle came from letting go of her own self hatred but it was clear that she was free to be herself, even act out, because she belonged.
If Elain was super sassy, bubbly and outgoing in the Night Court then the entire narrative that SJM has built for her falls apart. She's got her full personality on mute because she's still waiting to find her own path with her own people and it's only then that her sisters will finally see her for all that she is too.
That's what I wish some in the fandom would understand about Elain. That they really shouldn't villain-ize a character for at times seeming odd and out of place, where she's in the background and not involved in the way the others because SJM has been hinting at her having to leave the NC before she can become true FMC energy. She's not going to have that energy before her book though even when she does, she's still going to be recognizable. She's still going to be loving and kind, she's still going to make friends easily, she's still going to want sunshine and nature. I think anyone trying to keep her in the NC tries to reason away the fact that they'd be sucking out a major part of her personality by claiming "Velaris has sunshine too! She can just avoid the Hewn City!" That's like saying someone can get the same sunshine in Alaska as they can the Bahamas.
But until it's time for her full arc, SJM has to keep Elain in a bit of a holding pattern since she's been driving home the narrative that she doesn't fit in where she's at. Elain isn't boring or worthless, she's just waiting for a reason to leave the NC and do her thing (again, something that won't happen until her book) and her individual journey can not be compared to Nesta's because no matter how much she fought it, Nesta always belonged in the NC and it was made clear to readers from the start.

Gemini moon and Virgo moon compatibility
i think virgo as a moon placement makes little sense. As well as Gemini. What is your mercury, intellectual, chatty, analytical ass sign doing in the planet of EMOTION AND FEELING? doesn’t make sense. it just doesn’t click. (with a special shout-out to sagittarius moon)
I’ve noticed these placements talk about their emotions A LOT very easily and quickly without realizing. They will tell you exactly what they are feeling but also not truly recognize how they feel. Discussing your emotions is not the same as understanding or processing them, but to mercury moons it is. This is coming from a virgo moon with a gemini moon best friend; i have also known other people with these placements, but obviously these two are the most relevant to my experience. We can spend hours discussing how we feel with each other and be able to explain the emotion down to the last detail, but then do nothing with it. As if by talking about it, we have conquered it. **spoiler alert: we have not.**
HOWEVER I do think these signs work so well together. If you are a virgo moon you need a gemini moon friend and vice versa. Virgo moons and gemini moons will naturally feel comfortable with each other and easily banter. Gemini offers playfulness of air. Virgo offers ground beneath both of their feet.
Virgo moons can reserve their darker thoughts and shameful feelings, but a gemini moon does not have that same filter when they are with someone they love. Gemini moons bring virgo moons out of their shell (which is dire for any virgo placement). Virgo is the hermit sign, so in the moon placement they will isolate their emotions and therefore themselves from even loved ones (capricorn moons have a similar trait). a gemini moon can easily pull virgo moon of this. because they are both ruled by mercury they have similar thought processes, but a gemini will not hide those from someone they feel comfortable with. that vulnerability shown by gemini gives the virgo comfortability and a sense of safety to reciprocate it. realizing how much the two have in common and someone to understand them gives the virgo a sense of belonging. Everyone feels like no one could possibly understand them sometimes. These two signs can understand each other in a way that does not clash like two virgo moons or two gemini moons might. they offer compatibility not just similarity.
Now of course the virgo moon has something to offer the gemini moon as well, other than comfort, and that is stability and counsel. Listen, you virgo haters are not going to like this: Virgo moons have very good advice to offer. Yes, it can be unsolicited which makes it to not be taken seriously and simultaneously diminishes the value of it. There is something to be learned in any advice offered to you, and a virgo moons advice will likely offer organization/structure. Gemini moons need that. They are witty and quick, and their emotions are , frankly, all over the damn place. Their thought process is not super methodical, and a virgo moon can bring that to to the friendship. Virgo is a very analytical sign which means virgo moons are good at analyzing emotions. Geminis don’t have this skill on the same level. Now the worst things about virgo moon is that they analyze their own emotions AND YOURS. so you best believe while that gemini went on a 10 minute rant about how they feel, virgo was taking notes and compiling their response. gemini moons are the most receptive to this “constructive criticism” because they can feel it is in a comfortable space and is the virgo moons idea of love and support.
maybe this won’t resonate, but whether or not you agree with the points made, you must recognize: virgo and gemini work phenomenally together as friends. Not only as moon signs. if you are a gemini sun you need a virgo sun, gemini mercurys need a virgo mercury, so on and so forth. I don’t know how these two signs do together romantically, but platonically, it is golden.

Eden Academy — the Random Classmates
I’ve been rereading for a bit and I can see that Endo takes great care into making sure he uses the same classmates for the Eden scenes. Lots of them also have recognisable designs, and in a lot of crowd scenes, characteristics of each kid are carefully drawn. You can legitimately chart a lot of the nameless kids throughout the chapters. On the Eden Academy page on the wiki, there are even pics of recurring nameless kids.
Even a lot of the kids appear, the majority have no known personality or dialogue. So now I’ll try to chart the few that actually appear more than the others.
First, we have the Mean Boy Trio / Mean Girl Trio.
Tumblr media
These kids have consistently appeared since Ch9, each of them bearing recognisable designs. Outside of Damian and co, they’re are the classmates who are most likely to make fun of / undermine Anya. Sometimes they get individual panels, making them the most “commonly seen” nameless kids. The boys are usually shown together and same for the girls.
We don’t know any of their names, so for convenience’s sake I’ll try to assign them something lol. From left to right we have: Bald Boy, Slicked Hair, Curly Hair. Then Headband Girl, Forehead Ponytail, and Bob Cut. Curly Hair doesn’t appear as much as the other five though.
Tumblr media
We see Becky and Anya isolated, Damian and co in the upper left corner. Below them is the Mean Girl Trio. Note that Mean Girl Trio often sits close to Damian Trio, Damian Trio tends to sit at the back of class, Becky and Anya at the front of the class. Even from this tiny pic, we can note that most of these kids have designs. For example, the Long Rectangle Hair boy at the upper right corner is one of the kids living in Damian’s dorm. Directly below him, Braids Glasses Girl is featured in the Arts and Crafts chapter. To the left of Becky in the lower left corner is half of Long Hair Glasses Girl, another one in the Arts and Crafts chapter.
Anyway, Mean Girl Trio sits next to Damian probably because they want to suck up to him (esp Headband Girl).
Tumblr media
Here we see the Mean Girl Trio laughing at Anya. And then they seem flustered when Damain doesn’t agree with them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we see some of the mean boys. The boy with fluffy curly hair and exposed forehead seems to be a new recurring character (in both the Stellar Star Ch and when Anya returns to school post-cruise). We see Mean Girl Trio and a girl with a hair clip laughing at Anya in the Stellar Star Ch. In the other chapter, we see Bald Boy and Slicked Hair in a panel with actual dialogue. Fluffy Forehead Guy also has dialogue. The kid with parted hair is also seen next to him in both chapters.
The Arts and Crafts chapter shows close ups of some characters, most notably some girls. I especially took note of this cute Black Buns Girl who actually verbally defends Anya. Someone who isn’t Becky or Damian being nice to Anya?? Hmm?? This has potential! The girl next to her, the one with Long Hair Glasses (as I mentioned earlier), also seems concerned about Anya.
Tumblr media
Both girls also didn’t like it when Damian stole their paper, again with Black Buns Girl speaking to protest (even if it’s just a word).
Tumblr media
Becky sits next to Braids Glasses Girl and she’s shocked by Becky’s Loid figure lmao.
Tumblr media
Back to the Anya returns to School Ch. As we know, everyone thinks Anya’s story is ridiculous and chooses to get excited over Becky.
Tumblr media
Black Buns Girl is back, shown to be excited about Becky’s adventures. Hair Clip Girl, who previously called Anya a “psycho-girl” in the Stellar Star Ch, asks Becky to spill all that gossip. Long Hair Glasses is briefly shown as well. More notably, 2/3 of the Mean Girl Trio is here. Headband Girl and Forehead Ponytail are eagerly approaching Becky. This is interesting because if you scroll up, you can see that Headband Girl says “that other girl (Becky) must be in her (Anya’s) gang” in Ch9, showing she had an initial unpleasant impression of Becky.
… And I’ve hit the image limit. Well, I guess that’s all I have for today. It’s interesting to track the little movements of these characters and how you if you squint, you can see a tiny bit of personality.
Another interesting note is that George doesn’t appear a lot of ensemble scenes. Rip to his presence I guess haha
Anyways, still thinking about Black Buns Girl who’s one of the few who’s nice to Anya… 🥺

next / previous / beginning
KYRIE: Mm. She takes her job personally. Not that she really ever cared for us. Being entrusted with our guardianship went to her head years ago. I always remember her arguing with the council about what we ought or ought not to be doing. She never liked sharing the responsibility. Guess it made her feel important lording over God’s chosen. EVE: She acts as if you’re still a child. KYRIE: I don’t think she could ever see me otherwise. EVE: Do you ever miss your real mother? Don’t you… wonder about her? KYRIE: Hard to miss something you’ve never known. I could say I wish I’d had the chance to know her, but then… I wouldn’t be here if she hadn’t been complacent in surrendering us to the church in the first place. EVE: I never knew my mother, either. Yet, I often dreamed of how my life would have been different had she lived. When I would see other children with their mothers, the happiness they showed… it made me yearn for something I, too, had never felt, but still wanted, deeply. KYRIE: In a way I envy you. I haven’t the imagination to fathom things like that; Whatever it must have been like to grow up as someone else. EVE: But you had your sister. KYRIE: Yes… I had her. EVE: Kyrie, you shouldn’t give up hope that she might still be alive. Tell me, honestly. Is that the real reason behind your decision? KYRIE: I don’t know… Maybe. I just don’t see the point anymore. I had hope. But I can’t feel her. It’s just… silent. Is it better to think she’s out there somewhere, in pain and alone? I don’t know. Everything is so dark. EVE: Surely, she wouldn’t want this for you. And she’s not the only one. There are people who care for you now. KYRIE: I could hardly believe that. EVE: It’s true. Don’t you think I worry for you? KYRIE: You’re… different. EVE: I’m not the only one. Kyrie there’s… something you should know. KYRIE: What do you mean? EVE: I… was nervous to tell you. I don’t know if this is something you should hear now, considering your condition, but if I don’t… If your sight returns, perhaps just saying so now would be kinder. KYRIE: Eve? EVE: It’s Tayuin… He’s gone after that witch. The one who cast the curse. KYRIE: He’s… what? EVE: He, Eira and Lord’Tevus left sometime in the night. Only a few of us know they’ve gone. I expect that’s for the better. KYRIE: But… how… Why? EVE: Isn’t it obvious? To save you. KYRIE: That’s— I’ll… I’ll go, then. I’ll go after them, I— EVE: You’re in no condition to do anything. And certainly not the type to go traversing dangerous terrain. KYRIE: I can’t let them. This is all— EVE: It’s done, Kyrie. You’ve nothing to do now but accept that. KYRIE: How can I? If something happens to them— EVE: Calm down. You’ll exert yourself too much. KYRIE: But… EVE: You know they’re capable fighters. And clever. Well… KYRIE: laughs Some more than others. EVE: If for no other reason, I will acknowledge Lord Tev’us is a powerful force. Though, I would be lying if I said it didn’t concern me greatly to hear he’d gone along. On the one hand, his abilities are nearly unmatched. On the other, it’s hard to know where his loyalties lay. If he has any at all. I admit, part of me thinks he’s only gone for selfish reasons. He’s shown us well enough he cares for no one but himself. KYRIE: I know your experiences with him have been unfavorable. However, I… don’t know if what you say is the heart of it. EVE: What do you mean? KYRIE: Lord Tev’us is… complicated. Perhaps, not easy to like. EVE: Not easy to like? He’s callous and self-serving. Do you forgive all that he has done? KYRIE: I didn’t say that. But I needn’t forgive him to understand that he and I have wildly different perspectives. That doesn’t mean I agree with his, nor that I think he’s absolved of judgement. But do I think that he is beyond redemption? Do I think him incapable of caring for anyone outside himself? KYRIE: My answer to that is…

Trimax: Vol01 Part 1 Vol01 Part 2 | Vol02 Part 1 Vol02 Part 2
My thoughts on Trimax Vol02! Not so much deep art or thoughts analysis in this one :)
Tumblr media
I wonder if the name has any meaning to it? As far as I understood this is the mansion where Legato and his henchmen are hiding, so I wonder if there’s anything to that name. Now what I found just now was that there is a musician by that name who apparently made two songs, one called “My Only True Love” and “I’m Coming Back from Viet Nam”, but no chance to listen to them. Interesting, I guess.
Tumblr media
Joke: Midvalley must be playing really bad if that’s his audience’s reaction
Tumblr media
It’s also cool to note that Gauntlet is trying to warn the men about Legato, that they should get away! He might hold no sympathy for them but he also doesn’t wish for their ugly demise that’s inevitable when Legato steps in.
Tumblr media
Oh this whole chapter is SO yucky and bleugh and evil but the most evil thing is this panel right here. Sometimes the horrors that aren’t shown are the most horrifying ones.
Tumblr media
Vaaash ♥ Every time our boy is remotely smiling I want to pet his head and boop his nose and hold him close.
Tumblr media
Maybe I’ve overlooked smth during my first two reads or misunderstood smth but dear ma’am, who are you?? My only theory is probably nonsense. Or maybe it’s just some extra being controlled by Legato to help him move around?
Tumblr media
I couldn’t resist. I need to make fun of Legato every time I see him.
Tumblr media
Nick looks really cute with these glasses. Also good for you, Wolfie, getting to drive such a pretty boy in your sidecar!
Tumblr media
The killing game? I thought they were only meant to bring Vash neverending und unbearable suffering? (Though Vash can’t know that)
Tumblr media
Lovely use of the soundwords again!!
Tumblr media
And this one! Also cool how the swoooshing of the blade is indicated with this white space. Black outlining and then a light shading...hmhm (taking notes)
Tumblr media
Aah I love it when one part of the face is covered in darkness, showing mostly the eye. It’s so looming and effective. Actually, now I do wonder if this is something that’s still used in nowadays mangas or not? I don’t read lots of mangas atm and only one other shounen, so I’m pretty out of the loop how manga style has evolved (of course everybody has their own style but in general, I think you can often see if a series is older or newer. I NEED to analyise what specifics do give that away because that’s pretty interesting)
Tumblr media
I think this is the first time it’s kinda directly stated that Vash is not human, isn’t it? Just smth interesting to note I think.
Tumblr media
Ooh we all know you’re also thinking about you and your own sinful existence, Wolfie.
Tumblr media
I really like this page and especially the left panel! The ground is so utterly devoid of any details, apart from the sand clouds and the lines that the roller blades have left. I really enjoy how Nightow keeps mostly to lineart without using lots of shading in the clothes, that’s a thing he does mostly in the faces the enhance expressions as far as I could tell.
Tumblr media
Gotta agree with Wolfwood on this, Vash is being a bit naive. He makes it sound so easy, so much so that it could be understood as an insult to all the suffering that Rai-Dei had to endure, to the way that his life is now. I mean it’s not the case but it does sound like Vash doesn’t want to know or hear about Rai-Dei’s crimes, by saying it “doesn’t matter”. All in all it is understandable that it only fuels Rai-Dei’s anger.
Tumblr media
I love pages where it’s no sound, only little snippets of action taking place, with different perspectives.

To be frank with you, I don’t think that Dream went about announcing or creating the USMP in a good way.
For starters, Dream could have shown basic respect for Quackity and waited before announcing his SMP. He couldn’t even congratulate Quackity for the QSMP without making it about himself. Dream didn’t even wait a month before announcing the USMP, which you must admit is very similar to Quackity’s idea, which has been in the making for way longer than Dream’s has, based on how Dream doesn’t even have all 60 members of his server nor, you know, an actual quality translator (at least based upon his most recent video).
Plus, what connection does Dream have to other languages? I, for one, distinctly mentioning something about how the only language he speaks is winning, and yet now he’s all for overcoming cultural bounds and uniting people from all across the world? I acknowledge that a person’s opinions can change, but then again, there’s the matter of timing that I mentioned earlier.
Overall, I don’t believe that Dream would have been condemned this way if he had announced the USMP later. However, I do believe that he is being heavily inconsiderate of Quackity and that there is a very high possibility that he is trying to ride off of Quackity’s coattails for whatever reason. That reason could be relevancy, as with the obviously faked letter that he supposedly got from Google (obviously faked because of the multiple spelling and grammar issues), or it could be that he is trying to replicate the DSMP and its popularity again.
Regardless, even without getting into the moral qualities of Dream’s character and whether the accusations about him are true, it’s obvious that he is being rude to a certain degree (the degree of which is debatable, but the rudeness definitely not) towards Quackity and what he is trying to achieve with the QSMP.
Sorry for typing out this long essay, but I feel strongly about this topic, and whenever I feel strongly about something, my brain goes into writing mode (it’s the autism—just kidding, of course). I hope I didn’t come off too mean, I just wanted to share with you my views on why the Dream might not have the best intentions for creating the USMP.
Okay so i also talk a lot but my thoughts come a lot more fractured so you might see a ton of edits to this post
So first of all, i actually do agree that the announced of the usmp was not very good. Personally i think he should maybe have waited a bit more, or idk, but i do agree that it didn't come out the best way
The thing about connection to other languages I think that Dream is doing it both because of some of his friends (Korean in specific, Tina really want to learn korean again after she lost most of what she knew, and there are a few more youtubers Dream is friends with and/or knows that know or are korean) and because he genuinely enjoyed connecting with people from other places and languages! Idk if you saw him during the squid games and more even on spreen's heaven event but he was clearly having lots of fun and really really loving talking to people
And a thing about the Dt that most people who dont watch them dont really know, is that they're all kind of shy around new people. Dream is exited but kind of scared, Sapnap is really really shy and will stick to people he knows (you can see on his first irl stream with Karl, he looked like a spooked cat) and George will be weird with people he doesn't know but he doesn't really make a connections quickly like how Quackity for example does
You can really see how these events left a really strong impact on Dream (and his community!)
(Also, some other languages might also been chosen because of his friends, Foolish, Tubbo, Tina and [Oh fuck another person but i forgot her name] were/are working really really hard on learning Spanish, but didn't really get a chance to use it. Other ones, like Japanese, might just be a "oh! I bet there are tons of cool people there" but really i dont know the streamers, so i cant say for sure)
I can talk a bit about why portuguese tho! Most big brasilian youtubers started out as minecraft youtubers, and they're actually really big! I cant really vouch for them (they're not bad, just... like annoying bad, except that one guy, but we dont talk about Monarca) some of our youtubers were on the top of all creators on the site a few years ago (i havent really looked since then)
So it's a big untapped community that does actually love interacting with people from other countries (there's a reason that "come to Brasil" is a meme, other then the fact that no band ever comes to brasil)
I cannot comment on the google thing because i genuinely dont really know what you're talking about
But about congratulating Quackity, I think multiple cc's were congratulating Quackity and saying his project was really cool (including Dream) even before it was announced, and im pretty sure he congratulated Q after the qsmp trailers came out
But yeah, again I think it was kind of weird how the announcement of the usmp came, but i dont think it was because Dream genuinely wanted to hurt Quackity or try to overshadow him
About the quality of the translation, i actually think its kinda funny? It definitely shows that Dream (and Callahan! Who is absolutely incredible) were actually trying to create this themselves and not just copying from something else.
I also think its not meant to really be perfect? I for sure think it will be better when we see it live, but I think the usmp and the version of the translator we see in it are not meant to be the best version it can be, but more an example so people can take it and alter it and transform it. Thats why i think its free to access and edit, because it was meant to be taken and changed by the community
But hey! One of my favorite tropes is language barriers, so i might he a bit biased on the "It's okay that the translator is glitchy thing"
(I also think that language is so complex that the translator will never truly be perfect, with complicated words and frases and *regional dialects and words that dont truly have translations, like "saudade" or "cafune", i think that there will always be little misunderstanding and confusion and bugs, but we can just pause and try to explain it differently, like it always is in conversations)
[*side note, im kind of doxxing myself a little, but my dialect literally replaces the word "thing" for the word "train" and we only do that in my state. You can also always tell when someone writes something in portuguese making sure that people could translate it because we talk/text completely different, you can translate você but not ce so some things get caught up]
This is actually really nice! Its nice to share views without being aggressive and going for each other's throat. I hope is discussed everything? It's 2:31 am and im sick so i might have missed something and im glad to talk more about it if you want to
But yeah, long story short, i do agree that the delivery of the usmp was weird and kind of disjointed, but i think it came from a place of genuine love and excitement with Dream, he just hyperfoxused on it and forgot to think of some stuff. And i think it will be fun to have multiple multilingual smps and that in the ends usmp and qsmp will be different in some core ways
I hope i wasnt rude as well! If i did i genuinely didn't want to come off as agressive

Recalled • Part 5 • 37 - Nero
Previous • Series Masterlist • Part 5 Masterlist • Next
When the instructor said she’d be in second month classes Nero hadn’t noticed that he was saying mostly as a figure of speech. Nero was not placed in second-month classes, because that’s impossible, it’s not legal. Second-month classes are done in the helicopters, the first month is all about safety, you can’t exactly get in a helicopter without knowing all of that. Well, unless she stayed in the military, they didn’t seem to care much. She’s got this nickname in class, “Living Taxidermy” At this point, she’s pretty sure it’s an actual slur, like Slot Mongeler for Chance folk, or Fur Poacher for the people of Turtle Island. At least her sheepish classmate doesn’t call her that, nor Roland, nor Trevor will ever call her that.
The sheepish classmate, Fred, wants to go into piloting for an airline. Trevor says the kid won’t last long, but Nero thinks it would be good for Fred, you’re up in the air, sure, but there’s not much other than turbulence that could really go wrong on a commercial airline.
Trevor… Nero isn’t really sure when he and Roland started dating, she’d say that he had Roland wrapped around his finger if it weren’t for the fact that Roland doesn’t always agree with what Trevor says. Trevor will sometimes say insensitive things aloud about unwinding, about how Roland must hate his parents. Roland will awkwardly smile at Nero, and she’ll just roll her eyes back, they both know Trevor means well, but Nero herself knows that things aren’t that black and white for Roland. It’s not like she can make a comeback to Trevor, she barely knows more than he does about Roland’s past. Nonetheless, they seem fine for each other, she just hopes that when they break it off, one doesn’t end up broken.
“I’ve always noticed something,” She says to Carter while they curl weights. “There’s no gym bullies? Is that how you’d say it?”
Carter nods. “It’s because I eat bullies for breakfast. Every single one of them that sets foot in here has either been humbled or shown the door.”
Nero looks at him in admiration. “I feel like the more I learn about you, the more I’m amazed.”
Carter seems to be taking that lap of community college before going into a dietitian role. His parents work in the beauty industry, his mother is a cosmetologist, while his father is a bodybuilder. A bodybuilder in the sense that he'd look like Cam if the man couldn’t afford to get grafts of the same skin tone as his original body. “You should see the pictures of him when I was a kid, it’s wild!”
“How does he get the money to do all that anyway?”
“Mr. Universe pageants mostly.”
Unlike his father, Carter is going towards what is now considered more homeopathic ways to build the body.
“I want people to enjoy their bodies, not wish they had different ones.” He tells her, his only exception is people who are trapped in their bodies, like girls or boys who want to be the opposite, or nothing, or everything, et cetera.
“They used to have an old way of doing things, where they’d cut a few parts and flip them the way the patient thought they should be. I like the new way better, ‘cause then they have the right gonads, no offence.”
“None taken, they’re probably already using the Biobuilder for those procedures anyway.”
Carter points over to Trevor. “Trevor is still a showoff, but he used to come in here just flexing on any guy he could, and then he’d look over to see if any girls were watching.”
“I’m not surprised.”
“You’re very doubtful about him.”
Nero sighs, “It’s not that, it’s just,” She leans in closer, whispering into his ear. “I’ve seen the guy cry a lot, could you blame me for not wanting a chance to see him cry again.”
Carter nods, “I get it, Roland’s a confident guy, takes a lot for a dude to be alright with crying in front of others.”
“I don’t think it’s confidence, I think it’s such deep-rooted trauma that he can do nothing to hold it back.” Nero laughs, “Sorry, the therapist in my brain is talking again.”
“No, keep going, I like talking to him.”
At this point Carter knows Nero doesn’t consider herself one person, he’s even taken to memorizing which part belongs to who. It’s become a game for both of them to point out certain body patterns.
“Such wise words sir!” He’d say to the therapist.
“You wanna arm wrestle?” He’d ask Nero’s right arm, it would always take him up on it, 75% of the time her arm would win.
“Agitated aren’t you, Roland?” He’d tease, and at some point, she had to tell him to stop as once he got Roland going her body would not stop spazzing angrily.
“Y’know when I first learned you two were friends, I thought Roland would be like the big brother,” He smiles. “I guess I was wrong.”
“Well, we both have a younger sibling, so I suppose we are older siblings to ourselves, but I think Roland is the one who needs more of a shoulder to lean on. I’ve kind of just been thrown into the world with an already adult mind, I know exactly what I’m doing, but I have no idea at the same time.” She explains.
“You’ll get there eventually!” Trevor yells across the gym.
“You can hear us from that far!?” Nero questions, yelling back at him.
“The walls are echoey!” He yells again.
Nero suddenly feels a little guilty for talking about Trevor, part of her knows she means well to be concerned for Roland, while the other part of her knows she only feels guilty for being caught.
The next day they head into class, and the first thing sitting at their desks are the tests they did yesterday. Nero's eyes immediately darted for the ninety percent mark at the top of her paper. ‘Good ‘nough.’ She thinks.
“I got ninety-eight!” Roland exclaims in earshot of Nero. “So did I!” Fred cheers and Roland grins back at him.
“Knew you could do it!” Nero says Fred looks astounded. “You did?!”
“Of course, you were studying hard weren’t you?”
Fred goes back to being sheepish. “I, yeah I was.”
Nero looks back over to Roland, but she’s caught in the gaze of Trevor. He glares at her, his eyes flickering between her and Fred, he then looks back around smiling at Roland like nothing happened.
“What the hell was that?” Nero mutters.
“You saw it too?” Fred asks.
“Yeah.”
“He does that a lot to me, please don’t say anything about it, I don’t want it to get worse. We’ve only got another week together before we’re randomized into different classes again.”
Nero sighs. “Alright, but if it gets worse, tell me alright? I don’t want you to suffer.”
“Ok, thank you.”
“No problem.”
After class is over Trevor waves Roland away to talk to someone, and that someone is Nero.
“Was that supposed to be a jab at me?” He interrogates her.
“What are you talking about?”
“The whole ‘Knew you could do it’ thing.”
“Maybe, it’s a playful one though.” She brushes it off. “Don’t take it personally, I was happy that Fred was doing well more than rubbing it in your face.”
“So you were rubbing it in.”
Nero huffs. “What’s your problem with me, Trevor?”
“My problem is that you hate me.”
Nero slams her left arm onto one of the lockers Trevor leans on, scaring him. “I DON’T HATE YOU! I’m worried for the sensitive guy who’s dating the guy who makes quips all the damn time. All you have to do is slow down, listen to him, and understand all the shit he’s been through. I don’t hate you, I just want Roland to be happy, Capiche?”
“Yeah, right, capiche.” Trevor walks off. “I’ll give him all the affection I can get him.”
As he leaves, Nero feels guilty again for getting mad at Trevor, is she being too protective over Roland?
