I have some bloody thoughts on Joanne Freakin Rowling

Sooo HP is a great franchise and she has earned the cred she gets for creating it all.

Now she is truly terrible at respresentation and that’s a big problem. I really don’t want to excuse it by saying that the books weren’t written now in the 2020s and that it was some years ago because the books were still written in the 2000s. But I still feel like as a straight white women maybe she just doesn’t know. She doesn’t know how much being represented matters to people and that has made her a bit blind to the problematics of her lack of it. Still, she could have made much better work of it and maybe put some thought into reaching a lot of different groups of people.

She as a person a really don’t know to what extent she is problematic but I still feel like her books ARE good and if maybe they where made into movies anew you could change things to make it more inclusive. (Making Harry and Hermione POC, Remus gay, maybe including mental illness and neurodivergence)

I don’t really know where I was going with this - just that we can still give her the credit she deserves while pointing out her flaws and take a stand that she REALLY should be better at including people who are not what society deems ‘standard’

Maybe- but it’s still part of a pattern where actors in their 30s are being hired as young adults or even teenagers. And there’s a pretty big difference between being 22 and being thirty. And age difference of 8 years when ur over 50 isn’t that much but 22 (just graduated college, brain not even finished evolving) and 30. Maybe if hiring older - than the characters- actors was something done literally always this ones it wouldn’t matter. But unfortunately it is and unfortunately- like I said- I find it annoying.

genuinely kills me how many people are so disappointed about taylor being cast as alex specifically because the most common fancast wasn't the actual person who was cast, and i just want to say that of course so many people simply wanted a Latino™ without caring about the actual heritage of the actor, but personally the joy i feel about having an actual mexican person playing alex as opposed to Literally Anyone From Mexico And Down™ because white people don't see the difference between all types of Latinos and think accents and behaviors are interchangeable, is simply unmatched

Okay I gotta be honest

I’m kind of upset that Hera was kind of portrayed as a kind of villain in The Rick Riordan universe.

Her husband (Zeus) is u know kind of a dick and honestly she is entitled to be upset about all the shit and cheating that he did.

Hera (or Juno) is the goddess of women and I feel like she could have been a really badass feminist who stands up for all women no matter what.

I just think that as a goddess in mythology she is really inspiring and could be more of a symbol of female power more than just a jealous bacht that people ‘hate’ on
