lol don't worry about it! Nothing about you talking about your fic will make me feel left out! I'm just happy to help you out with your work! If anything will make me feel left out, it's the lack of rogues content and people within this fanspace underutilizing Vlad and not having much of that juicy, juicy polycule content (specifically Vlad/Jack/Maddie) that I keep coming back to Danny Phantom for. :p Speaking of, I want to be as transparent as I can with the information I'm giving out, because just like all comics fans, I'm not an expert on everything and I am very much in my own specific niche and haven't read everything out there! I'm actually not much of a Batfam fan and am much MUCH more of a rogues fan! (Specifically my hyperfixation is focused around Harvey Dent and Two-Face.) So while I do have some information about the members of the batfamily, my knowledge isn't nearly as comprehensive as someone who's deep dived into that part of the DC universe! I'll give you the information I can, and hopefully someone with more cohesive Batfam knowledge can reblog this post with extra notes to fill in the holes I have in my knowledge. >.<

Adoption Order

So I can't tell you the specific specifics of adoption specifically, but I believe that the order of each member joining the Bat Family would probably be along the lines of: Dick Grayson -> Barbara Gordon -> Jason Todd -> Tim Drake -> Cassandra Cain -> Stephanie Brown -> Damian Wayne -> Duke Thomas.

Batgirl and Duke recs

Again, I haven't read much Bat Family stuff because my primary focus is on the rogues. But I do have a handful of recs! If you're willing to watch a long-ass video instead of reading, I would actually highly recommend Linkara's retrospective on Cassandra Cain and here's the link to said video! It's very good and goes into just about every major comic appearance she was in at the time of the video first coming out (in 2019)! You will get a very good image of her character from that, I like Linkara's analysis, and by watching that video, you will definitely be able to come away from it with a number of recommendations for both Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown! (He does talk about Steph some in this video, but it's limited.)

Speaking of Stephnie I'm sorry to say that I don't really have any recommendations for Steph as I sadly have just not really happened to come across any works that have her in them in my poking around in different comics and related media. But honestly, while I can't give you any recs for Steph, maybe you should toss Linkara (@atopfourthwall) a message! He's actually a decently active Tumblr user and given that he wants to do a different retrospective on Stephanie Brown, certainly he would have things to recommend!

As for other Cass reccomendations... The only thing I have in my back pocket is Spirit World. It's not about her, it's a solo series about the brand spanking new character, Xanthe Zhou, but Cass IS a main character in it, and people seem genuinely happy with what they did with her in that story!

If you're looking for good Barbra Gordon content... Well... Personally I would recommend giving her episodes in Batman: the Animated series or the issues that include her in The Batman Adventures a look-see...? It's always a solid time with her around in B:TAS, or in the Batman Adventures! They characterize her very well in those serieses!

If you want both a Cass and a Barbra suggestion... Maybe check out No Man's Land...? Asking you to read all of the comics that were part of that saga might be a little much, but there is a novel adaptation of the No Man's Land storyline out there, and personally I listened to the reading of that novel as done by Graphic Audio and it is genuinely excellent! Like, the marketing may be tacky, but it is on the level of quality as something like an audio drama podcast or a Big Finish Audio. It just happens to be a book reading. :p But No Man's Land IS where Cass was first introduced, (also where Harley Quinn joined the comics universe fun fact!) and it has plenty of good moments from Barbara in it too!

As for Duke... Honestly, if you aren't already reading the Wayne Family Adventures, then you really ought to. >.< That series is available for free on webtoon and the first several strips have him as the main character before it becomes more of an ensemble cast thing. (And in case you were wondering it IS official DC media!) >.< I also haven't read much of Duke's stuff, and so in terms of his backlog, I really don't know what to recommend. The one story that I did happen to read that heavily featured Duke... Was "My Own Worst Enemy" (it's like volume 1 of All-Star Batman) which was... Fine...??? Like, as a Two-Face and Harvey Dent story, it was pretty bad and ablest in how it portrayed Harvey's DID. (But this isn't necessarily unusual for books that include him... SIIIIIGH!) But it was also incredibly stupid and fun, and had a lot of good forwards momentum and offered a number of interesting ideas that I don't entirely hate! So overall I find it... Fine... But as a Duke story... Honestly it's not bad as far as a Duke story can go! And the back-up story for that little arc (the Cursed Wheel) was pretty alright too! I do feel like after I read My Own Worst Enemy that I did understand Duke just a little better as a character! So while it's not good... You might find it to be decent in what you're looking for...? Because I really cannot speak on any other stories he's been in. >.<

Klance post canon, but the internet is obsessed over Keith. Since the internet is the internet, they end up graphically talking about how much they want to smooch Keith and do some Stuff with him, and Lance is not very happy about this.

Some random event comes up, and overnight Lance is instantly trending on social media!! He now has a bunch of people drooling over him too!!

The paladins do go attend galas and interviews and all that schmooze because they are celebrities (they literally saved the world??). People eat the content that is posted up, and that’s when the first few klance shippers rise. Most people are like “??? Where did you get that from” but the klancers are confident in their ship.

Keith and Lance are put into their old “rival” dynamic—instead of combat-related issues, it’s now about who is hotter. People argue about this A LOT and honestly KL probably talks about their rivalry in at least one of the interviews,which makes the fans EVEN CRAZIER!!

The Klancers are seen as delusional for picking up the (VERY REAL) fond looks Keith gives Lance in interviews because “Keith isn’t gay!!” (*cough* Lance is openly bi)

AND THEN LANCE GETS CASTED TO STAR IN A TV SERIES??? Everyone is pumped especially because he’s one of the main characters and he’s being paired with this one pretty girl (IT COULD BE ANY POPULAR WOMAN IDK) that he’s met up with a couple of times.

Flash forward to the series debut (and maybe even the second season) and people ARE GOING FERAL! Not only because Lance and the girl in the show are depicted as a really cute couple and have a really good development of their relationship throughout the first like 2 seasons before they get together (WHAT KLANCE COULD’VE BEEN, DREAMWORKS.), but mainly because there’s a NEW leaked bts where Lance is spinning the girl around in the rain and doing romantic stuff idk and people are posting about how they want to go jump in a highway

But then someone posts a video of lance spending time with keith IN THIS LITTLE LAKE WITH A WATERFALL!!1!1!!1 AND HE’S TWIRLING KEITH AROUND JUST LIKE HE DID WITH THE GIRL??1?1!!1?

The romance between Lance and The Girl in the series WILL BE 200% non-toxic. This is so I can make a plethora of people scream and cry over it in the fic, just like how they did with klance in 2017 (Except for the fact that. Y’know… they didn’t end up together 💀💀).

Jealousy will be a huge element in the story. Whether it’s Lance/The Girl or Keith/I don’t fucking know, there is going to be lots of yearning.

Uhhhhh I’m terrible at making stories and consistently updating so I can’t promise you a completed fic!!

Waterparks is a weird little pop rock pop punk emo band type thing, hard to really narrow them down? Sometimes they lean more pop [funeral gray, 2 best friends, etc] BUT they can also lean REALLY HEAVY into the other stuff [REAL SUPER DARK, RITUAL, etc]

They consist of three dudes, Awsten, Otto, and Geoff!! Awsten as the lead singer and many different instruments, Geoff does some epic guitar moves and awesome backing vocals and such, Otto does the literally best drums EVER and some backing vocals!!!

Awsten changes his hair color based on albums or general vibes of their content, CURRENTLY we are in a red hair era for their latest album INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY which is absolutely one of their absolute best!! My personal favorite is A Night Out On Earth, or RITUAL !! ❤️

Geoff has a twitch channel, it's super fun and chill and he is genuinely so awesome and sweet. UnderscoreGeoff, I think it's called! Such good hang out vibes!

Otto is a serial killer but don't mind that.

Awsten has synesthesia which I believe is why everything is super related to colors, and why the albums and songs have very specific colors associated with them!

Jack o' Frost Ep 6 (Finale) Stray Thoughts

Last time, things finally came into the open, and Ritsu made the only choice he could: he ended things with Fumiya. Still, the birthday scene that led into the couch make out was incredible. This show is the first time I've ever enjoyed an amnesia plot, and I'm excited for this finale.

The little brother is very attractive.

The leads are playing the tension of this separation so well. Fumiya being considerate just doesn't land after everything that's happened, and looks like the last hope it is.

Of course the neighbor knew about their problem, and she is here to meddle!

Wanting to forget a relationship because it was painful is relatable, but the experiences we've had with others are part of who we are.

I like that everyone around them roots for their relationship. It makes everything Fumiya did a little bit easier to accept, because you know that there was a time when they were really good.

I love when we pan the camera to see characters just missing each other. It never gets old.

I like how Ritsu hasn't been center framed in a while. Makes it feel like he's a bit off. Meanwhile, Fumiya is centered because he knows what he needs to do.

I really like the style of art Ritsu makes.

Oh look at that. Ritsu moved into the center frame as he started to remember his history with Fumiya.

I don't care that the frost is fake. It's used perfectly.

Okay, but Ritsu remembering their actual first meeting that Fumiya didn't is actually so romantic.

"Thank you for remembering," also got me. Goddamn.

I'm really loving the way they use the lighting every time they go to this diner.

What a gentle finish for this show, and maybe the MBS BL Project.

Final Verdict: 10, Highly Recommended. I've been giving out a lot of tens lately, but so many shows have completely delivered on their premises! This show actually made me appreciate the amnesia trope (one I usually loathe) by combining it with something I've been begging for: stories about queer people staying together. Ritsu and Fumiya had some pretty big problems, but they cared about each other so much that their own community wanted them to try to figure it out. That's just so lovely.

I'm beyond thankful that we completed this year of BL by focusing on a couple that worked out after starting off at a crisis moment. I sincerely hope this isn't the last we see of BL from MBS, because I've enjoyed this experiment in Mr. Unlucky, Senpai, Takara and Amagi, Eternal Yesterday, Candy Color Paradox, and Jack o' Frost. With the bonus content from Utsukushii Kare, MBS gave me so much to enjoy

While I admittedly was harsh on some of these shows, I am so glad we went on this journey. Thank you all for joining me.

10. Most disliked arc? Why?

I didn’t not like it narratively, but I didn’t particularly enjoy the whole arc of trying to get Linda and Arthur back together :/ I did appreciate it in a “fellas we are never breaking the cycle” way, but it kinda drove a wedge between me and my enjoyment of Arthur’s boyfailure arc at some points. Linda kinda reminds me of my adorable little WASP-y mom so seeing her threatened and upset because a man will do anything but go to therapy……eugh, hard watch.

13. Unpopular opinion about XXX character?

Alfie - this is gonna maybe be a bit controversial (or not? idk it took a while for me to wrap my noggin around the vibes) but……I don’t think Alf is all that religious? He is very very involved in his community and seems to be a well respected member of Jewish society in Camden Town, but idk how much he really practices in his day-to-day. I could be entirely wrong (would be happy for a Jewish PB fan to correct me if I am, and honestly I much prefer the headcanons that imply it matters a bit to him because as you’re about to see….I love cultural exchange) but Alfie’s irreverence and self-deification don’t really come across as terribly devout to me. If you consider the non-TV works to be canon, he definitely seems to be of the impression that nothing really matters beyond the carnal. He does seem to believe in a God, but that God’s existence isn’t really consequential to him. So I think his Jewish identity is more forged in community than shared reverence! I can relate, in a way; I never practiced Catholicism, but because my entire dad’s side did and I grew up in a highly Catholic neighborhood, it impacts how I interact with the world. So that’s how I kinda see it: it’s not the religion that he practices, but more the identity of someone raised with the religion.

I also wanna doooooo……..

Polly - she wasn’t always a wise, rational woman throughout the show. There were plenty of times she acted out of anger, fear, stubbornness… and while I do love that we kinda treat her as our voice of reason, she’s still as flawed as the rest of them. I feel like I’ve seen a lot of fics fall into the idea that Polly knows everything. It makes for a good story driver, but I feel like that unfortunately just doesn’t encompass who Polly is as a person. I don’t wanna ramble super long AGAIN but I think a lot of her interactions with/about Michael kinda demonstrate that. She’s easily blinded by her fear of loss in particular, and in a way it’s very similar to Tommy’s motivations. I think that’s part of why they butt heads sometimes. I’d like to explore that more myself!

14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?

Oooh boy, this one is kinda tough to say. But I think we have a looooong way to go as a fandom in terms of cultural sensitivity. I know we’re working with source material that already has a pretty problematic and shallow way of going about Romani characters, but I think it’s our duty as fans to sorta….grapple with that a bit? Address it with nuance? Or at least listen to POC, particularly Romani, creators who take issue with the things done in the show and in fan content. There are SO many aspects of the show itself that play into racist stereotypes about Romani people, and I’ve seen a number of tropes and fic concepts that revolve around those stereotypes in particularly shocking ways (for example, maybe don’t have “sold to the Shelby family” or “magical g**** fortune teller” as a plot point??? Many levels of inappropriate to that). I do largely give people the benefit of the doubt because I know that not everyone knows what to look out for, especially if they themselves are not targeted personally by bigotry in their communities, and fewer people know where to go to figure that out…. but I feel like specifically Romanichal culture is a strong enough theme in the show to warrant SOME promotion of cultural research. Of course we all have work to do (I’m no exception, and I wholeheartedly welcome concrit if anything in the story seems off) but I feel like some people really lean into exoticism and stereotypes without any unpacking of why they’re doing it. And, when other people express discomfort, I’ve seen more than once the sort of response that sums up to “well so-and-so said it’s not a slur/bad trope/stereotype so I’m gonna keep using it”. Thankfully it’s less prevalent here on tumblr but it’s still a problem! Let’s rid ourselves of the idea that any one culture is a monolith! Cultural exchange and education are exciting! Decolonize your writing! Respect and an open mind go a long way!

It's just so horrid. Yes I get what's happening is horrible and spreading awareness is good, but please put trigger warnings. I am highly sensitive to gore from trauma in my own childhood and I don't want to be triggered every time I try see my favourite blogger or when I try find silly little Tumblr posts. I have had to block Palestine on my tags and content and stuff because of this (as in the "content you see" thing)

On the one hand, yes, being able to freely express your experiences and opinions is an integral part of a blogging environment, especially the lesser understood and highly personal things like being neurodivergent.

On the other bloodied, splintered hand, the echo chamber culture of ‘relatable’ content, and how it makes numbers when it comes to likes and reblogs, have led to this lamentable and detestable state where people will, with chief authority no one granted them, declare This or That as #neurodivergentculture in an echo chamber of “So True!” accompanied by a chorus of “oh god oh no am I neurodivergent? I do This... And That...”, sure is great to see people that have rarely thought or considered they might be divergent, because a lot of the time they aren’t, suddenly go full Barnum Effect over a post and start dreading that they may be afflicted with the terrible curse of maybe being like me for fifteen minutes, when I’ve had to deal with it for my entire life. Not to mention, every little damn thing anyone does or experiences is suddenly #neurodivergentculture, it’s definitely not at all that humans are immensely diverse, in particular the generations that started with Millennials, who value individuality and expression far more than the preceding generations, or that something like autism or ADHD contemplate an incredibly diverse set of potential behaviors or issues unique to each person and individually not exclusive to being autistic or ADHD, no, it’s definitely conclusive evidence and a surefire way to declare oneself one of the Accursed.

It would be peachy if we stopped trying to make everything relatable content and a way to segment The Typicals from The Divergents, because that’s when you get a lot of people, ADHD, for example, looking at what others are saying their ADHD experience is, and likely taking one of the two roads: 1) Damn! That’s Also Been Me All This Time Starting From Now, Or I’m Not A Real ADHD-Having Person! or 2) Your Experiences Are Invalid, As They Are Not Like Mine, and it goes without saying neither is good, with the most common being Number One, because, again, in the understandable search for identity and not feeling alone in a world not made in the slightest for us, we as neurodivergent people are incredibly susceptible to that oxytocin rush of being able to see ourselves in others that comes with relatable content, and it’s about time we act more responsibly about it. It’s infinitely more productive to frame your experiences as your own instead of trying to make of them something universal, because autism, ADHD, and other forms of neurodivergence are, in fact, highly personal, and you’ll definitely find people that share your experiences without having to frame your experiences as THE experience.

so, I wonder if any among you have been noticing that i have been more active on here lately. While part of that is intentional, i think most of it is related to the fact that I am giving up Instagram for Lent. Am i catholic? no. am i Christian? maybe, I'm not sure. not really. still, I am giving up Instagram for Lent, which sounds enormously silly to say. I think this will be good for me, and in fact it already has been good for me. I am the kind of person who can't handle shortform content when it is constantly available to them, and I would like if i haven't found myself of Y**T*b* shorts from time to time since them. still, the compulsion to pick up my phone and scroll in order to numb my brain and distract myself is definitely fading, and it has only been a few days.

Because of the way my brain functions and also my work situation, it makes sense that I still spend quite a bit of time on my fucking phone. (although my screentime has decreased by about 2 hours.) as a result, I am spending more time on other apps, tumblr being the main one to pick up the slack. its been good! despite all of its problems (most of which are probably not going away anytime soon), i do feel like it is designed in a way that is less addictive and more enriching than other apps. There is no way to "reblog" an Instagram reel, and even likes feel kind of meaningless since most of what is on there is just reposted from other sites and disconnected from the original creator, and you can't even go back and look at your old likes. Being on tumblr has more of a community feel to it, and even if I am mostly just reblogging I get the enriching feeling of feeling more like a curator/creator.

I deleted tiktok about a year ago? since then, i have occasionally gotten back on to make videos or check on friends, but never for more than maybe 24 hours. While other copycat short form platforms can be a timesuck, there is something so fucking lobotomizing about tiktok itself. literally get brain horrors anytime i use it now, and i highly highly recommend doing what you can to make the switch if you still use it. I think more people around my age (21) are seeing that and reducing their interaction. Its kind of sad sometimes to not constantly be aware of what is trending, but there is also a kind of bliss in not constantly being aware of what is trending :)

So I present as pansexual but sometimes my brain says that I’m just straight because the only people that I’ve found that are also supportive are only girls (my sex is male) and I’m starting to wonder if it’s true. I can’t remember if it’s something like imposter syndrome or what it is, but I just wanted to ask about it.

I mean I want to be in a queer relationship but then my brain is like “you’re just saying you’re gay to look cool” or “you say you’re gay but you’re just an ally”

And I feel the same way about my gender identity, I present as non-binary and want to get non-binary gender affirming surgery and other procedures, but my brain’s like “you just want the surgery to have more sex” and I don’t know what to believe.

so first off, you are valid as hell. you dont need to fully know who you are yet, it takes forever to figure this stuff out. like i only recently came to terms with my gender and am still figuring out my attraction. no matter where you are in your journey you are valid as hell.

with that out of the way, i can't tell you how you're meant to be attracted towards peoples. you could be omnisexual, you could be romantically/sexually attracted to girls only but different attraction types such as alterous for other genders, you could be abrosexual (like genderfluid but for sexuality), or something else entirely.

however i have two bits of advice for you, both in the form of quotes.

"but what if that little queer crush is completely insignificant in my life now and I've basically forgotten it???" i hear you say. well now i have a quote from a book called Imogen, Obviously, where main character Imogen is having a bisexual crisis over a girl, and is talking to her sister Edith about it.

one of them is from onetopicatatime from youtube (i highly reccomend for some chill but also educational content about lgbtqia+ things), who i remember saying once "if you think you're faking it, you're probably not." if you relate to queer experiences, or you think you might have had a queer crush at one point, then dont disregard that!! this community is more than large enough for you, and all of your experiences are valid, no matter what.

Even if you and another pan person on the internet both identify as pan, and that person has been hooking up with literally anybody they find mildly hot at a bar, and you've had a few small crushes on small selections of people who happen to all be the same gender, that doesnt mean you're less valid. maybe they're older than you and have had more time to be attracted to people. maybe theres no cute/hot boykissers at your school/work/etc.

i'm not pan, but the definition describes the potential for being attracted to people regardless of gender identity. i dont see anything there telling you that you have to be attracted to every. single. person you see. maybe its a coincidence, or (and I say this as an aromantic person who always thinks that im just weird for not wanting to date people) maybe you just haven't found people you really connect with yet.

being scared of not being queer "enough" or faking your identity is essentially a hallmark of the queer experience at this point, and I think it really just takes time to feel comfortable in your identity. it sucks but I think that's just how it goes.

part 2 - gender wowie

i think it's good to think about what are your reasons you want to get gender affirming procedures. like do you want them to stop dysphoria? to wear clothes that fit your gender better? to feel more attractive to yourself, and better about yourself when others are attracted to you?

if you think it's the right pathway for you, go for it. but remember you're valid as trans, or enby, or anything, no matter if you physically transition or not. however, you don't have to decide NOW NOW NOW NOW. like for example maybe you're multigender and one part of you really wants to look like your assigned gender, but the other half wants to be the opposite or in between. or maybe you're genderfluid and you feel too much like your AGAB too often to be sure you wanna transition.

final takeaway is that its gonna take time to feel sure about being queer and your place among the community. also, maybe do the aroace thing of categorising every person you know and seeing if you would be attracted to them or not, cause at least you get closure then, if not then you get queer attraction instead. also, if you have the means to, maybe try dressing as the opposite to your assigned gender (ask for Visa gift vouchers if your parents / guardians aren't supportive and you don't have an income / credit card)

also im sorry if something I said didn't really help in the way I intended or I made a dumb assumption, sometimes I try and say something but it comes out meaner than intended, I tried to rectify that if I realised but hopefully I got everything.

FROZEN III

Being direct, aren't we? I don't know what you're asking of me, anon, is this meant to be a writing prompt or something? Since you're not being specific, I will just share my opinions/thoughts on Frozen 3. Assuming you know that I ship Helsa and I like Hans (else, why are you asking me? I don't often interact with general Frozen fans here), I'll probably bring it up in this post. (Warning, this will get personal.)

My first thought when I saw the announcement was, "Well, someone has to milk they cashcows at some point, right?"

I wasn't thrilled, in fact I was rather sceptical. I don't like Frozen 2 for a lot of reasons (I won't elaborate it because it's exhausting having to repeat it, I'd rather not talk about it or see anyone paraphrase it for me, thanks), and in my head the franchise is done, just like that. Some people I know also lost their interest in the Frozen fandom, prompting me to do the same (the only things keeping here are my friends, Helsa, and Frozen the Musical), so am I excited to have my love for Frozen rekindled? Not really. But am I excited to see the fandom revived and the possible new contents that will come along with it? Absolutely!

I'm rather indifferent about Frozen 3, honestly, and I have ZERO expectation about it, whatsoever. At the end, Disney is a multibillion dollar company, and they are likely to prioritise profit over quality content. But if it ends up getting a good writing, that's good for them, I guess. Though, I'm personally planning to avoid any news related to Frozen 3.

I would like to see them explore other places too, tho, maybe The Southern Isles? I wouldn't mind a redemption arc for Hans (although the chance seems highly unlikely, lol, that's how low I set my bar). I don't need Helsa to be canon, but maybe and interaction would be nice to see (or I could write my own enemies to lovers fic for self indulgence purposes instead, idk).

If I had to guess the plot, however, I'd say Frozen 2 is just a fever dream but the moment Elsa goes about her day, she hears that 4-note siren call, and she goes on a journey but *gasp* there's someone behind the bushes, at least Anna is there with a sword looking cool like in that trailer, etc. (this is a joke, please don't take it seriously), or maybe it could be assassin!Anna, spy!Elsa, and telepath!Olaf trying to prevent a war from breaking out (again this is my attempt at humour, based on a conversation I had with some friends), who bloody knows? Anything could happen, really.

All I'm saying is that, try to manage your expectations and maybe mute tags/keywords of topics you wanna avoid for your own sake (I do that, and my online experience has never been better). I hope these answers are satisfying for you, anon.

Shots and their consequences

There was something the Mafioso understood aside from obedience - that was taking shots and dealing with the consequences. Of course, he had been taught the skills capable of taking down any of the townsfolk who got in his way, all he had to do was just leave the body.

HEY SO UH. This was. Small drabble I wrote ages ago, but mainly kept it to myself and a couple of friends bc. Hehehe…

I’ll be honest, this is completely different from the content I would typically produce. Or uh, produced… I wrote this back in April, and my little pea brain in October thought “Eh? Why not share it with the [checks hand] seven town of salem enjoyers.”

Highly doubt this will happen again but… idk maybe I might want to make a comic that takes place pre-salem loosely based off the town of salem canon (we will focus on the mafia) (we always focus on the mafia) (coven, town and neutral enjoyers i am so sorry /lh)

There was something the Mafioso understood aside from obedience - that was taking shots and dealing with the consequences. Of course, he had been taught the skills capable of taking down any of the townsfolk who got in his way, all he had to do was just leave the body.

The same fate was for the mayor, who now was lifeless at his feet. A shame, really. For someone with control and authority, he had just been treated like the Sheriff. The Doctor. The Vigilante. The only difference? He could have been so much more if he wasn’t such a coward.

There again, cowardice had never been an option for the Mafioso. Only obedience.

Maybe that’s why he didn’t understand.

Stumbling out of the window, the Mafioso looked up to the night sky. A familiar comfort. Quiet and serene, yet left Salem in a glow which only seemed to heighten the mystical disease which plagued this town. He wandered from the Mayor’s house, back into his own home. His job was done for the night, the shot was taken.

Now came the consequences. He sat down on the old chair and just. Thought. What does cowardice achieve, exactly? Come to think of it, was hiding in the veil of the night a coward’s move? Would a coward kill others for the sake of his family?

Was he a coward for relying solely on following orders?

At that point, a knock came from the door. Great. It’s probably going to be that Investigator, snooping around and asking about his skillset. Just what did he have going for him anyway? The ability to not ask questions? The ability to unconditionally do whatever he was asked? The ability to take control, like a witch? Now wouldn’t that be nice… at least a witch isn’t at the whim of a boss who hides behind his own pawn. His boss was the closest thing to a father figure, of course. Yet, there had always been this strange disconnect between the duo. Still, things can’t be helped, it’s merely business…

The Mafioso proceeded to open the door, only to be greeted by a short woman in a blue dress.

His fellow business partner, the traitor. He sighed as he mumbled:

“Weren’t you supposed to be at that alleged bodyguard’s home?”

“Wasn’t there,” the traitor explained, rubbing her arm “I assume the jailor took him. Probably mistook him for the boss.”

Typical. Everyone has to hide away - himself included.

“If you don’t mind…” the traitor continued “Figured I could… have some company?”

“Go on.” The mafioso rolled his eyes as he gestured her to come in. Nervously, she smiled at him, before entering his home. The Mafioso followed behind her, closing the door. It was fairly common for the traitor to ask for company, she hated spending nights alone - that was for certain. Usually, anyone would be willing to spend the night with an adorable, precious lady…

The same lady who always seemed to linger around him, like a butterfly around a rose. A shame he was all thorns.

Lately though, she had asked for his company specifically. Heck, once her targets were asleep, she would sneak out just to visit him. This had been going on for the past couple of nights, and the mafioso couldn’t help but secretly - yet eagerly - await her arrival. At least after dealing with the… everything else first…

“I assume you’ve dealt with the quiet one, yes?” The traitor suddenly asked, now having taken a seat. All he could do was nod, reminding himself of how cowardly that Mayor was. He didn’t say anything else as he paced across the room, trying not to remind himself of the struggle that occured between them. Slowly, the traitor turnt towards him, noticing the brooding look on his face. It was normal for him to be lost in thought but she couldn’t help but observe just how he looked… in pain. As if, for once, he was the one being hurt by the thorns.

“Hey, Mafi” The traitor began, getting up from her seat “Is something bothering you?”

No response. He just… stared at her, a sickly, hollow look in his eyes. The traitor just gulped and she got closer to him.

“It was definitely the right target, yes?”

Again, nothing. He seemed to actively avoid eye contact, his mouth quivering. Cautiously, the traitor paused for a moment, trying to figure out some way to get him talking. However, when she finally figured out something, he sputtered out:

“I'm no different from the others, am I?”

The traitor’s eyes widened, the concerned look on her face now blended with confusion.

"I mean, everyone expects you to be covert," he continued "Masking yourself behind bundles of lies in hopes that people just. Understand."

"If you don't want to die, of course." The traitor pointed out "Nobody is going to want to go for the most beautiful flower in a bush. It would be too obvious."

He swore she gave him a wink.

"No, they instead go for the ones who bury their heads in the dirt and hope that nobody pulls them out" He slowly explained, looking down as he finished:

"The ones like me"

He sighed as he leaned against the table, just like he relied on everyone else. Honestly, why would he even admit that? If he had admitted that to the boss - or anyone else for that matter - they probably would have tried to actively argue against it. Or worse, literally beaten some sense into him. In fact, he was half expecting her to do the exact same thing, and he would just have to listen to her, like everyone else.

However, the traitor instead just slowly bowed her head as she whispered:

"Makes two of us."

She proceeded to reach her hand out towards him, a faint red tint seeming to bloom on her cheeks. Cautiously, the Mafioso tilted his head towards her.

"Let's be real, we're all cowards in this town." The traitor carried on "We're just the ones who are fully aware of it, and want to change it."

How was he meant to change his fate? All he did was follow orders. Obedience is key, after all. However, it all made sense once she chuckled as she proclaimed:

"Trust me, there's nobody more courageous than you specifically. After all, a coward wouldn't blindly risk his own life if it meant he got closer to being that change."

With that, the Mafioso got up and hesitantly reached out his hand towards her, only for him to pause and ask:

"...could I hold you, for a moment?"

Surprisingly, she immediately went straight for him, wrapping her arms around his chest. Initially he froze, unsure if it was even acceptable for him to return the gesture. Yet, when she began to stroke his back and mutter… something laced with… Understanding? Pity? Admiration? Either way, he reciprocated the hug, leaning down to rest his head on hers.

It felt like an unfamiliar feeling was growing inside of him.

Maybe one day he could understand what it was.

What book are you currently reading? I’ve been taking a fiction break and reading The Sprawl, by Jason Diamond, which is about reconsidering the bad cultural rep of suburbs. And it’s pretty good! A good amount of research and depth without being too dense, but it’s also not a book that’s pandering to a shallow shelf grab (I will never forgive The Secret Life of Groceries for how bad it was).

What’s your favorite movie you saw in theaters this year? Oif dude I’m terrible at remembering stuff like that. Did Marry Me come out this year or last year? Because that I will gladly rewatch again and again, so sue me.

What do you usually wear? During the work day it’s old jeans and work-tattered shirts since I’m a landscaper (or in winter’s case, long Johns, wool socks, jeans, undershirt, thin hoodie, thick hoodie). Outside of work, in the summer it’s usually a tucked in t-shirt and high waisted jeans, and in the winter it’s high waisted jeans and a sweater. I live in Seattle so I don’t usually get to wear my “”nicer””” East Coast stuff because god forbid someone wears a pair of slacks casually in this goddang city. (Said with affection for Seattle, but not for its odd fashion limitations).

How tall are you? About 5’2”.

What’s your Star Sign? Do you share a birthday with a celebrity or a historical event? Libra, and Keanu Reeves, maybe? Or maybe he’s just a Libra too. Idk, I truly barely keep track of celebrities unless I have to lol.

Do you go by your name or a nick-name? At my last job I went by a shortened name, partially just to try it out (it’s one of my short forms I go by at cafes or for fleeting intros as well), and partially because my boss barely attempted with my full name on day one. Don’t have a lot of fondness for my full name outside of the fact that it means a lot to my mom but it’s whatever. Most online spaces that are relatively separate from “real life” I still go by Roshon.

Did you grow up to become what you wanted to be when you were a child? Hmm not sure I had any concrete ideas on what I wanted to be when I was a kid…fleeting daydreams of geologist, chef, non-specific scientist, civil servant? Museum work when I was in high school and college. And it’s not that I didn’t become any of those things, but I think they’ve all been incorporated into who I am today and I’m not sure I’d need to be any of those things professionally to feel fulfilled. Also I love what I do now, but I highly suspect I’ll be one of those people who live a lot of different lives…restaurant work, administration, landscaping….

Are you in a relationship? If not, who is your crush if you have one? Engaged! We’ve been together for about five and a half years. (: does that make me sound old or what lol

What’s something you’re good at vs. something you’re bad at? Being patient; it’s pretty easy for me to exercise patience and take a step back on stuff. I’m bad at admitting I don’t know things, especially things related to pop culture. There are some things (like knowing actors, for example) I’m very open to admitting, but other things like familiarity with famous movies or tv shows, I’m just bad at admitting I haven’t seen them?? It’s dum. Idk why I’m so self-conscious about it.

Dogs or cats? Both, and even though I live with a dog I adore, on a shallow level I probably still favor cats more? But our dog is very dum and cute.

If you draw/write, or create in any way, what’s your favorite picture/favorite line/favorite etc. from something you created this year? Got back into my bullet journal this past year and was pretty pleased with my October theme. What’s something you would like to create content for? I still have PruAus fics I want to see through one day. Not necessarily holding myself to that promise. But I’d like to. Not sure if that actually answered the question.

What’s something you’re currently obsessed with? Making a mini crevice garden.

What’s something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year? My previous job- really liked it when I started, and the first half year I was there, and then slogged through the winter months and thought it’d be better in summer when they get busier but it just felt worse. Not necessarily a purely them thing, I’m sure, but still.

What’s a hidden talent of yours? My German, maybe? That might be more of a ‘nobody expects the Asian kid to know any German’ kind of thing, moreso than a hidden talent. Also, half talent, since I’m still not fluent. Did decent when I was in Berlin in October, though!

Are you religious? Spiritual, maybe, religious, no. Still vaguely consider myself Unitarian, but even then it’s still more as a community/mindset thing rather than a religious structure thing.

What’s something you wish to have at this moment? A 7,5-10 gallon tank that’s in a more vertical format rather than horizontal…really itching to redo the scaping in the tank and get a few more fish. Still recovering from the holidays, though, haha. So I guess it all comes back to money, predictably.

It’s time to reconvene The Asker’s Studio™️ because I’ve got questions!

It is my exceedingly good fortune @blackmonitor that you are reading @myevilmouse Conflicting Aesthetics at same time I am, so that I reap the benefits of your artistic talents. In chapter 3, Mouse drops a heavy paragraph relating the frustrations that our artist, Seta, is experiencing whilst sketching Thrawn:

It wouldn’t be perfect. That was the problem with truly fascinating subjects. Capturing his aura was the best she could hope for. Thrawn, even half-naked, exuded command. The sense of power, a demeanor of authority was prevalent, almost but not completely camouflaging a latent vulnerability. Not self-consciousness, something else. Seta could see it, imagined Thrawn would deny it existed, but wouldn’t be content until its flavor was imbued in the lines of her art. It was the sum total, everything wrapped in a charismatic fog of mystery, emphasizing the thing that made him most alien—which also made him intriguing and attractive beyond the physical.

I asked the omniscient Mouse if she was 1. An artist 2. If she was, was this description from experience? The answer was No on both counts. WHUT?! I am not satisfied with this answer. I need to know MORE!

So my dear honest to goodness real artist: Could you please reflect on the paragraph above from an artist’s point of view.

Hint: short answers are not acceptable (jk) 🤣

“So my dear honest to goodness real artist...”

Oh yes, that paragraph! That was chilling! And I had the opportunity to read it as a lost artist who didn't draw anything for YEARS, and now, as someone who brought joy to many people with my silly drawings. In both cases, it touched something in my soul.

First of all, let me talk about the method of my drawings - not the technical details I already described here.

So art, for me, is about communication - communicating something to the viewer, even in a portrait or anything. It should tell a story, an emotion, or just some vibes to the viewer. Otherwise, it has no point (according to my point of view, but this is highly subjective, so forgive me if yours are different).

For example, take my first Thrawn portrait. 

Before I started to draw it, I wondered what I should draw - how to draw him. Back then, I read the first Ascendancy book, so it was obvious that I wanted to see him in that uniform. So when I found my reference from the comic, I changed it to communicate what I wanted - a man destined for greatness who failed.

But how? Well, my method is this - in mind, I became that person (like writers do it). I imagine how he would act, what he would feel… general things. And when I can see that back from my display, I'm happy. Like Seta, I always put my interpretation of the character into the drawing - the posture, the expression, and emotion. @myevilmouse did a beautiful work of describing all those things and the struggle!

The overall vibes and emotions are always superior to the technique or realism in my art. I want to communicate basic understandings in a pleasant form. Sometimes this works better, and sometimes it's not. But I always worked like this even before I did fanarts. So for me, Seta's struggle is real! But I never tried to reach hyperrealism 🤭 That's not for me. Swift projects, maybe a few days on them, move on to something different.

Similarly, in writing, @myevilmouse wrote down beautifully the struggle of sketching someone sitting in front of you, and you know almost nothing about him. In cases like that, I usually use my imagination. Fill out the gaps. I have a basic knowledge of personalities which I use these times. And while I am drawing someone, I'm always thinking about them - not necessarily them in the picture, but other different situations - filling those gaps in my mind.

The goal for me is to put something into the picture. When that something is "looking back to me," I'm happy. Maybe it's something only I can sense, Idk. But that's my goal, similar to what Seta felt as @myevilmouse described it.

For me, Thrawn is a fascinating individual to draw - because he is a great character! And there is so much potential in him.
