Whats your favorite song at the moment
Hey Nonny!
Ooof Too many, hahhaha! Because I don’t leave home anymore, I’m not looking constantly for new music to add to my Playlist, so mostly it’s stuff that I come across on Tumblr and is living rent-free in my head on repeat, or me digging on my harddrives for a nostalgia kick.... currently, these are the top 5 cycling in my head, no particular order:
(EDIT IT’S NOW TEN. I COULDN’T CHOOSE. LISTEN TO THEM ALL. THEY’RE ALL AMAZING)
(EDIT 2 SORRY IT’S NOW 15!! NONNY I’M SO SORRY. I know no one cares, but I LOVE sharing my Music with people)
(EDIT 3 *SIGH* Now 20. :| HELP. Stopping before I get carried away. No one ever likes my music so I love when people ask me for my songs with genuine interest)
Nathan Evans - The Wellerman (220 Kid X Billen Ted Remix) (flashing images CW in video!) – Got into the original of this one during the sea shanty trend, and then this dance remix came out... those of you who know me well, know that I am HOOKED on remixes, especially dance remixes. So I was so happy about this official one.
The Kiffness - Ievan Polkka ft. Bilal Göregen (Club Remix) – This one I got into because I think, again, the original with the blind man was trending, and then I found this remix artist on YouTube from his remix of The Wellerman, and his is SOOOO good!! I loved this song back in the early noughts when it was popular as “Leek Spin”. But then these young folks had to go and make it amazing again!!
ZHU, partywithray - Came For The Low – (LOTS OF FLASHING LIGHTS IN VIDEO CW!) Thank Falcon And the Winter Soldier for this one! It took me a WEEK to find out what song they’re playing in the club in Episode 3 when Zemo’s dancing, and YAY I found this finally (not the one hour one, sadly, still trying to find the song D+ Marvel used for that one). I LOVE IT. LISTEN TO IT. SO good if you like heavy club beats
Sim Gretina - A Friend Like Me (Electro Swing Remix) – This is SATISFYING. I LOVE IT. Found it years ago after that homemade Aladdin carpet video was going viral, and every time it comes up on my playlist, I replay it like 6 times.
Linkin Park - Numb (80′s Remix) – That tumblr meme song that went around years ago? HERE YOU ARE!!! :D This is TOO SHORT and it’s also on repeat when I listen to it. Y’all, this is what depression feels like when you’re trying to pretend to be happy all the time LOL. It’s a whole MOOD. This one is great to blast in the car and have people confused at you singing at the top of your lungs. Like, “I AM NUMB AND AN EDGELORD BUT READY TO PARTY!!!”.
One Ton - Supersexworld – Okay, this is an OLLLLLLDDD one by a one-hit wonder Canadian band that I stumbled upon recently when I was going through my hard drives to find new stuff to put onto my iPhone. I was OBSESSED with this song when it first came out, forgot about it, and NOW... SHIT I can’t STOP. This one is BLARING when I hear it, and am so happy I found it again. It’s simple, amazing, and AWESOME. LISTEN TO IT. You will love it. Please. It’s got one verse and one chorus over and over, and it’s catchy as hell. It’s on my personal Johnlock playlist :D
Deorro - Rise and Shine – GUYS. This song. Also on my personal Johnlock Playlist, this one is SOMETHING. First heard it in my BodyPump class, I NEEDED it. It’s SO GOOD. Jazzy Club Music??? YES PLEASE! Video is all kinds of amazing? YES PLEASE. PLEASE listen to this. I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
Bloodhound Gang - The Bad Touch (Eiffel 65 Remix) – Is this song a decade old? YES. Has it been on my iPod since it first came out? FUCK YES. Y’all, Eiffel 65 is SO underrated for their remixes. This is one of their best remixes, and it’s the PERFECT walking song. YES I look like an idiot walking to it, but I love it SO MUCH. It’s better than the original, imho.
Gotye feat. Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know (Bastian Van Shield Remix) – LOL I KNOW: sacrilege to remix Gotye, but Y’ALL. This is the DEFINITIVE remix of one of his best songs. Six minutes of pure club beats, and just... ANOTHER perfect walking song that you need to SCREAM at the top of your lungs. Also on my personal Playlist, John POV, that I will share eventually.... it makes sense in the song order on the list, I promise LOL)
Tee Lopes - Marble Zone '12 – Tee Lopes is the official composer for Sonic Mania, hired because of all his AMAZING Classic Sonic remixes he did as a hobby on his YouTube channel. This one has a Tango flavour, and it’s SO good and not long enough. There’s an extended version here. Also love his Flying Battery and Ice Cap remixes. If you love video game music remixes like I do, check out his YT channel. There’s a TONNE there and it’s GREAT music to write to.
Aaron Smith - Dancin’ (KRONO Remix) – I dunno where I first heard this one, but I LOVE it. It’s like trancey club music. It’s beautiful, and WORTH a listen.
Pet Shop Boys - I Wouldn't Normally Do This Kind Of Thing [Extended Nude Mix] – Ooooof this one has been on my faves for a LONG time. Originally heard this on the PSB’s album Disco 2, back when their remixes were this good and long and clubby. I miss these so much. If you want a good club beat to thump your car, this is it my friends.
Informätik - A Matter of Time – FUCK ME I love this song. This is the song that made me want to start a Johnlock playlist. I talk more in length about it on this post here, but yeah, I still just.. MM. It’s just so beautiful and is what got me into EBM music in the first place. I listened to this and a lot of their music quite often in college when I was pining over people. Always the pining and never the requited, LOL. I just really love it.
Pride and Fall - Paragon – GUYS. This one is SO good. Trancey EBM and just, UGHGGHHGHGHHHG It gives me so many feels. I’ve loved this song for SO many years, and just, still has to be on every iPod I own. It’s beautiful, and the lyrics are beautiful and I wish I was as beautiful as this song, LOL. Please listen and enjoy. Best bit is a 3:11 :D <3
Rammstein - Mein Teil (Pet Shop Boys Remix) – GUYS. This is one of the greatest collabs of all time. I love both Rammstein AND Pet Shop Boys, and was SO EXCITED when they remixed this song for the single. This is the better of the two remixes PSB did for them, and YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO IT. PURE CLUB BLISS. This is the PSB in their remixing best!!!! <3 Plus, it’s SUPER WEIRD to hear these angry Germans backing a club beat, I LOVE IT. Also, it’s literally a song about a true story of literally eating a dick, so.... *shrugs*
Pet Shop Boys - Love Etc. (PSB Mix) – Y’ALL. This is 6 minutes of LITERAL dance music BLISS. A fantastic remix of one of my fave songs from the PSB, which is essentially shitting on the materialism of relationships. And I love this one, it’s a great work out and car song. Honestly PLEASE listen to it.
Apoptygma Berzerk - Kathy’s Song (Beborn Beton Remix) – GUYYYYYYYYYsSSSS I love this song so much. The original is much slower, and I discovered Beborn Beton FROM this song (another great artist, check them out). This song is just, a great dance song, and just makes me scream out when I hear it. Full volume, beautiful song, beautiful lyrics. It’s my Android!lock headcanon song, but it is also on my JL Personal Playlist, LOL.
Darude vs. Robert Miles - Children of the Sandstorm – One of the BEST MASHUPS in the world, and I am CERTAIN it is an official one; I was obsessed with mashups when I was in college so I have a TONNE of them, but this one has always been a fave, and I still jam to it over a decade later. Seriously, these songs SEAMLESSLY blend together, it’s fantastic. Classic club and trance? HELLS YES.
Eminem - Nobody Listen to Techno (Deep Dish Mix) – Another nostalgia hit for me. Is it pointless? Not if I enjoy it!! I LOVE this song. Deep Dish mixes were THE JAM in my college years, and like, this is just 9 minutes of PURE techno with some of his song “Without Me” sampled throughout. I LOVE IT. SO MUCH. This is a banger, and just, if you need music to listen to while driving or writing, this is one for you!!
Rammstein feat. Sharleen Spiteri - Stirb Nicht Vor Mir (Don't Die Before I Do) – And to bring the mood WAYYY down, did you know Rammstein did a love song? A beautiful, moves-me-to-tears love song? Because I did and it’s one of my FAVE songs by them. It’s SO beautiful, and the Till’s harsh voice WORKS for it. It’s gentle and soothing. It’s a German/English duet, and it makes me nearly cry EVERY TIME. Because I imagine John and Sherlock and then I die inside LOL. It’s so beautiful and I listen to this one years after it was released. Look up the translation, it is so beautiful.
AND if you guys happen to like any of these songs, copy the youtube video link and use this :)
Most of these that aren’t silly are on my Johnlock playlist, so do give the latter songs a listen! <3 I’m sorry for adding more than five... I just really love sharing things with you guys I like because I’m so lonely, LOL.
If any of y’all are playing these and trying to pick me up, *finger guns* Let’s go get cake and jam :D
AHH I like when I get asks like this! Sorry I took so long Nonny, but I just kept ADDING to it, as you can see. Had to stop because I could keep going.

Hellsing Liveblog, Ch.11-13
Tumblr media
This is the “Balance of Power” arc.
Tumblr media
One of the things that frustrated me about the Hellsing TV anime (as opposed to the Hellsing Ultimate version) was that the TV series aired while the manga was still running, and it seemed to struggle between following the source material or just diverging into all new stories.    I think if Gonzo had made up their minds one way or the other, it would have ended up a better show.   Instead, there were all these filler scenes of Seras training with human soldiers, which seemed like an utter waste of the character’s time.    Worse, this meant the human soldiers featured much more prominently than they ever did in the manga, where they all get killed off by Chapter 9 or something.   And if you know that’s coming, like I did, it makes the human soldiers that much more insufferable, because you know dorks like Farguson aren’t going to matter, but they get tons of screen time anyway.    Farguson is like every episode of Dragon Ball GT condensed into a single character.
Here, in the original manga, it’s pretty clear that the soldiers never mattered, because the only time you ever see them is when Jan Valentines’ ghoul army slaughters them all.    They only existed so Integra would have something to be in charge of, but the only ones who actually matter here are herself, Alucard, Seras, and Walter.    In this chapter, Walter practically admits as much, when he states that there were 96 staff members, and now we’re down to ten: Walter, Integra, and eight jabrones who weren’t at the base that day.    Well, maybe those eight guys will show up later and do something important?   Bullshit they will, they never get mentioned again.   The Gonzoverse might have been able to break some new ground by focusing on those human characters more, but what they actually did was half-assed, and it looks all the more futile when you know how unimportant they are to the original work.   Walter just hires a band of mercenaries to backfill all the vacant positions, and I’ll give you three guesses what happens to those guys.
Tumblr media
Concerning “Millennium”, their mysterious new enemy, no one has any idea what they are.    A bunch of people try to research it, because we didn’t have Google in 1999, or at least not Google as we now know it, so if you wanted to know something cryptic you just had to rummage through a card catalog in a library or whatever.    But Integra just makes the logical leap that “Millennium” is a reference to the “Thousand Year Reich” dreamed of by Nazi Germany.   This seems like a stretch, but I think Integra’s reasoning is that this is the only “Millennium” reference that could possibly be worth Hellsing’s attention.
Tumblr media
Later, Integra meets the Wild Geese, the merc group Walter hired, and explains their assignment even referencing the Bram Stoker novel.    So I guess Dracula is a real book in the Hellsing world, but it must be at least partially based on a true story, right?   The Geese don’t buy any of this, so Integra introduces them to Seras to prove that vampires are real.
Tumblr media
They all laugh at Seras until she starts flicking their leader, Pip Bernadotte, with her fingers.    Then Alucard shows up, and that seems to be enough to convince them.
Tumblr media
After this, Integra gets a letter from the Iscariot Organization, inviting her to a meeting with Enrico Maxwell at the Imperial War Museum.    The whole thing introduces Bishop Maxwell very effectively.   He tries to play this off as a peaceful, diplomatic conference, but he makes Integra wait, and she’s still sore about Anderson’s violation of their treaty back in Chapter 5-6.   Maxwell takes all this in stride, then replies that he could care less about the deaths of even two billion Protestants, so the two guys Anderson killed mean nothing to him.    He’s only here because the Pope ordered him to do this, and he calls Integra a “Protestant sow” for good measure.
At this, Alucard comes out to stand up for Integra’s honor, and then Maxwell responds by bringing out Anderson, except Anderson has a berzerker rage thing going, so it kind of ruins Maxwell’s posturing.    For all his contempt, he really was ordered to London to talk to Integra, so he’d probably get in trouble with the Pope if Anderson starts a big superhero battle in a museum.
Tumblr media
In Cross Fire, the unpublished manga that was sort of a precursor to Hellsing, Maxwell looked a lot like Sir Integra does now, so when Kouta Hirano brought him back for this arc, he slicked his hair back and removed his glasses.   On the other hand, Integra doesn’t look much like the early Integra anymore either.    By now, Hirano seems to have settled on her design, straightening her hair out and making her face longer and thinner.   Anyway, Maxwell’s brinkmanship has backfired, and now even he can’t stop Anderson, so what can be done?
Tumblr media
Luckily, Seras is here to provide a distraction, as she leads a tour group of elderly Japanese tourists through the gallery.    For some reason this kills Anderson’s fighting mood completely, so he leaves.    Alucard also leaves, because he hates being up during the day.    Walter gives Seras a hearty thumbs up for defusing this tense situation.    Good job, Seras.    You’re doing amazing, sweetie.
Tumblr media
All right, so what’s so blamed important that the Pope would send Maxwell to London?    Well, he knows about Millennium’s attack on Hellsing’s base, and he has some juicy deets on them.   After making Integra say “please”, he explains that “Millennium” was a Nazi military unit responsible for transferring resources and personnel for Nazi Germany.    They relocated a ton of these resources and personnel to South America for safe keeping.    Integra’s not too impressed with that, since “Nazis fleeing to South America after the war” isn’t exactly a shocking revelation.
The twist here, though, is that Millennium was smuggling Nazi stuff to South America during World War II.
Tumblr media
Also, the Vatican helped Millennium do this?   I never understood this part of the story, but I think it gets explained later.   I mean, it explains how Maxwell would have this lead to share with Hellsing, but it raises more questions than answers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Volume 2 ends with another chapter of Cross Fire, starring Heinkel Wolfe and Yumiko Takagi.    In the first story, they saved hostages from Islamic terrorists.    This one is them recovering stolen church money from radical communists, which I guess could have been a thing in 1998?    It’s basically the same story, though, as they send Yumiko to infiltrate the bad guys, then they slaughter everyone in sight.    Mostly, I want to focus on the part at the end, where Maxwell, the leader of Iscariot, justifies the use of extreme hyper-violence in the name of the Catholic Church.   You sort of get the sense that the Iscariot Organization in Cross Fire was a concept in search of a villain.   the idea of two girl-assassins dressed as a nun and a priest might have had some traction, but Hirano really seems to have had trouble coming up with worthy enemies for them to fight.    But Hellsing brings vampires into the mix, which suits the Iscariots quite nicely.
Tumblr media
Back to “Balance of Power”, the third part features Seras training with the Wild Geese in the middle of the night.   For some reason, Seras expects them to shoot targets from over 4km away.   She can do it, but only thanks to the vampiric senses Alucard showed her how to use.    It’s like she doesn’t realize that this is an ability she only has because she’s a vampire or something.
Tumblr media
Indoors, Alucard and Walter discuss the whole Nazi angle.    Al isn’t terribly surprised, because he only knows three who have ever used undead warriors for combat.
1) Hellsing
2) Himself
3) The Nazis.
He knows #3 is legit, because he and Walter destroyed a Nazi research facility during the war.    Supposedly that contained all their work on the undead, but now that we know Millennium was smuggling important stuff from Nazi Germany to South America, it only makes sense that they’re the ones who devised the Valentines’ ghoul attack.    The bigger point of this scene is to reinforce that Walter used to be a big wheel in Hellsing, teaming up with Alucard to have Golden Age WWII adventures.   And now, Hellsing will be sending Alucard and Seras to South America to investigate this new threat.
Tumblr media
Here, Walter asks the big question: Why make Seras a vampire?   I’ll have more to say about this later, but I dig this scene because it works as an exposition scene, but there’s more to it than that.   Alucard’s only apparent motivations are over-the-top violence and doing his master’s bidding.   Helping Seras doesn’t seem to fit either of those, so it does indeed feel out-of-character.   You’d expect someone to ask this question, and by now there’s really only two people left who know Alucard well: Walter and Integra.   So yeah, let’s have Walter ask the question.    But later on, it becomes clear that the point is not the question itself, but the fact that Walter is the one asking it.
For what it’s worth, Alucard doesn’t seem to know, or maybe he just doesn’t want to spell it out.   He keeps saying that it was her “choice”, except he had to make his own choice that night.    He could have just let her die, regardless of any requests she might have made.   Al remarks on her tremendous resilience on that night, since she was surrounded by death and hopelessness, but didn’t resign to her fate.    That impresses him, so I guess we can say that he chose her because he found her to be such an impressive specimen, in spite of some of her goofier behavior.    As it currently stands, Seras can’t even travel across rivers or oceans, a weakness for lesser vampires, but not a problem for Alucard himself.    He seems to think that’ll all be resolved once she finally drinks blood, and he expects that it’ll just be a matter of time before she does.    Ominous!
Tumblr media
As far as transporting Seras to South America, Alucard figures the easiest thing to do is nail her shut in her own coffin.   The Wild Geese know a smuggling operation that can fly them to Brazil without any messy customs.   That works out, since they also have to transport Alucard’s coffin, and all the guns.
Integra asks why Alucard is dressed like this, and he says he can’t wear his usual stuff because he’d be too obvious to their enemies.    Also, he doesn’t need to spend the whole trip in his coffin, because sunlight and traveling over water doesn’t bother him, I guess?    I don’t really get the water thing.    If Seras can’t travel over running water, what difference does it make if she’s in her coffin or not?    I can accept that Alucard, who’s basically a super-vampire, would be immune to the whole water thing, but it becomes a plot point later on, so... aw, forget it
Tumblr media
Integra gives Alucard only one order: Search and Destroy, which seems kind of vague when you think about it.   Anyway, she’ll be saying this about a hundred times before the story is over, so we may as well appreciate the original.

I love doing asks too. Thanks for coming up with this btw. If you’re up for it, 5, 33, and 36 please! :)
I'm always up for asks, dear fellow ask lover. ;)
Thanks for the ask ♡♡
5: any headcanons?
I think Lise Fookin Lotte got something like that in her garage:
Tumblr media
Actually a mix of that with an engine like this one:
Tumblr media
It would look like a motorbike but could fly like one of those things above and would have a huge Inquisition cross in the front . Yes, she would be the local Hagrid of Radiant.
Another headcanon: Von Teppes loves Torque.
Another one: Ullmina will go berzerk and is most likely to die in the process. I don't particularly want her to die though. Basically because of the impact it would have on Verone.
Another one: Alma will fight Torque. I want it to happen. That's one of the 1 v 1 I want to see.
Another one: Liselotte is very informal with Santori in the manga. She calls him "tu" in French and she is somehow rude to him whereas he is an elder and his rank is way higher than hers. Even with Von Teppes, she is more polite and says "vous". So I think she and Santori know each other well. Perhaps he was her mentor. Maybe because he knew/knows her family. I also think she was brainwashed as a kid because raised by the Inquisition.
Another one: I've said it already but I want the Inquisitors to fight each other. I want to see a Nonov's side and a ... idk...Bellarmin's side fight against each other. It would be a fookin mess, it would be wonderful.
Another one: if Ullmina goes Berzerk and the Inquisition split in two one day, I want Verone to get adopted by another Thaumaturge. Maybe Nonov. Maybe Santori (even he would be a better parent than Ullmina). Maybe Liselotte who would only stop smoking whenever she would be with Verone.
Is that still headcanons if I say" if" each time? XD
33. What do you think about the Conversos?
I think some of them aren't what they pretend to be. It's pretty similar to what I said about the possibility of a reformed Inquisition. I think some Conversos are used to their new life of Inquisitors and are pro Inquisition, and others aren't at the core. (*cough* Adriel *cough*)
Their past is also very mysterious. I don't have any opinion on it yet. I am...suspicious. The nature of what they really did in the past can annihilate what I said before.
Yet, from what we know about them now, I can say that their job makes me feel uncomfortable. I don't like the fact that they are infected people working for an anti-infected people organisation which hunts sorcerers down.
36: How would you rank the Thaumaturges and their miracles? Which one is the most threatening? Also, can you rank them from your fave to the one you despise the most?
I agree with pretty much everything you said about their miracles.
This is how I rank their miracles and their threat potential (it's kinda the same as your list and I think I'm gonna repeat what you said):
1. Ullmina. She is an emotional bomb and Torque gave her an incredible power. Yet she needs corpses to fight and she can't defend herself while controlling them. Which I think is not very practical. However, she is still the most dangerous of all, merely because she has no limits, she is crazy and love others'suffering. I think she will totally try to take control of someone's mind. Someone alive. Seth maybe or one of his siblings. Or just someone who will get in her way.
2. Verone. The only way to stop him is to do what Doc did back in volume 9. Perhaps ranged attacks can work too? Well, in any case, it sounds extremely difficult to fight him. He should maybe be ranked in the first place. But he is like 10 so...
3. Santori. Demolition. Annihilation. Pure violence.
4. Torque. He is maybe more dangerous than Santori. But against a non-sorcerer his sword is like any other swords. Yet I think he is a very very good fighter.
Teppes = ?????
5. Liselotte and Nonov. Equally-ranked. I think they are more of a threat if they are together. I also think that Liselotte's miracle would be ranked higher if the manga was pg 18. Her miracle is super violent, she could cut heads like she would cut idk vegetables idk lmao. I think if they fight each other one day there would be no winner. Perhaps Nonov is more attentive and smarter because more objective whereas Lise is all about rage, feelings, emotions and overconfidence and pride. Yet I think she would fight to death. Seriously, if he really pisses her off one day she would be like a mad dog. Nevertheless, I agree that her miracle isn't that wonderful. Especially compared to the others.
Then how I rank them according to how much I love them:
1. Lise. fookin. Lotte. (I mean obviously). My favorite character along with Mélie. I think you know how much I want her to have a redemption arc. But even if she doesn't I will love her anyway.
Tumblr media
2. Argh. I have to admit. Argh. Santori. Yes I know. He is a pile of trash, he wants to enslave a whole population. He wears socks with sandals. He is irredeemable. But...he is funny. He is eccentric. I love him very much. Go ahead you can judge me, I deserve it.
2. Verone. He is equally-ranked with Santori. I love him for the same reasons you do. I think he was brainwashed and that he is only a kid. I can't imagine what type of man his father is for letting his kid going to war and kill people. And don't even get me started on his mother. Gosh.
3. Nonov. *sigh* I used to like him so much in the first arc. He disappointed me in the Caislean Merlin's arc. I mean he is still great and I still love him but not like I did in the beginning of the manga. I agree with you. I hated his CasaNonova's bullshit. Yet, I love him more in the new arc. He seems to be more like he was in Rumble Town. Sarcastic, makes fun of authority and his colleagues etc. That's the Nonov I love. Also how he treated Liselotte in the end????she respects the fuck outta him and he aaah. She was suspicious because she was doing her job. Ok she is stupid and intolerant. Yes she is. But with him?? With him she is a cinnamon roll wtf. I'm sorry I am not objective. I think you can tell that I am not very objective. Yet I still love them as a team. Could be a greeeat great duo and somehow they are but aaaah.
4. Von Teppes. Stupid dumbass. I think he loves or at least respects very very much Torque so now I find him somehow cute. Somehow. I said SOMEHOW. I get so much "notice me senpai" vibes from him.
5. Torque. I agree with everything you said. I think we both agree that he is actually the worst boss ever??? He hired Santori AND Von Teppes AND Miss anger issues Liselotte AND Ullmina this fookin mess of a person AND A FOOKIN CHILD WTF. I kinda like him though.
6. Ullmina. Well *sigh*. Ahlalalala. *re sigh*. I don't hate her. I like her. Kind of. Yet she really gets on my nerves by only talking about sex all day. In front of her child. Just talk about something else dammit. That's okay when other Thaumaturges are with her. I think their reactions (Santori's actually) are really funny. But even then... *sigh again*. Well. She is a psycho. At first I was horrified to see she was so much of a psycho. Actually, I was horrified to see that every single Thaumaturges is an asshole (except for Nonov). Then I got used to it and they became my favorite dysfunctional team. Now, I think they are funny.
The amount of times I said "I think" in this hell of a post is...tremendous.
Thanks again for the ask ♡♡

Prophecy
Tumblr media
YOUNGBLOOD #2 JUNE 1992 BY ROB LIEFELD, BRIAN MURRAY AND DIGITAL CHAMELEON
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS (FROM IMAGE DATABASE)
A team who call themselves the Berzerkers are trying to rescue a man named Kirby from an army of robotic beings controlled by a mastermind named Darkthornn. They beat the guards and free him. They run off to save the day. Meanwhile, Darkthornn is watching them, vowing that "the prophecy will not come to pass".
Tumblr media
In Berlin, Youngblood have been called in to bring something back to the United States. A cryogenically-frozen man by the name of Prophet. The scientists who found him tell the story: Dr Garnet Wells, the "mad" scientist, was working on human experimentation in 1937, using homeless people as test subjects. It was also rumoured that he was using superhuman technology. One subject, Jonathan Taylor Prophet, developed superhuman strength, speed and stamina as a result. Wells gave Prophet an "outlandish" uniform and weapons, but disappeared sometime in the Second World War. Now, Youngblood must take Prophet back to the States for further research.
Tumblr media
Cougar objects that this man's work will be exploited, but Combat tells him it is their job. Cougar notices a timer on the cryogenic tube, but just as he begins to investigate, the tube opens, unleashing a wave of energy and freeing Prophet. Prophet mistakes Youngblood for the Disciples of Doom, and a fight begins. Prophet disables Cougar and Combat, but Bramha breaks his neck. However, just as they are ready to bring him home, the Disciples of Doom themselves arrive for Prophet... mere seconds ahead of the Berzerkers, led by Kirby!

REVIEW
Ok. Let’s do this.
Writing: I understand all these characters are new, so calling themselves by full name on each dialogue may be necessary, but there are better ways of doing it (like with captions). It’s fitting that this issue is dedicated to Kirby, because the king used to do this all the time when writing. To make it Kirby-esque, Prophet is another variation on Captain America, that conveniently goes out of his cryogenic chamber ready to fight. When I finished reading the issue, I had to check issue one, just to be sure I was reading the right volume. Both issues feel extremely disconnected.
Art: The Kirby dedication is not fitting anymore. Other than the Kirby character looking a little like the real Jack Kirby, this feels like something Kirby would have had problems putting on his fridge’s door. The intention was good, though. I am sure Liefeld tried his best here.
But anatomy, proportions and perspective are not his thing. I know it’s his style, but I still think that is not reason enough to not learn how to do it properly.
I give this issue a score of 3.

Berserk Live Reaction Pt3: I Understand Why People Read This Now
It’s not fair to ask a person to spend hours, or even days of their life reading or god-forbid, watching a long-running shonen manga... if they don’t like it. If you don’t like a movie, it’s over in 2 hours. If you don’t like a long manga... well, you just don’t get the satisfaction of an ending. The time you’ve spent is just spent, it’s a sunk cost.
I bring this up not because I hate Berserk, quite the opposite. There are parts of the story that I’ve come to love, even if it’s the kind of love a parent feels when they watch their toddler do something horribly dangerous.
I bring this up because this first arc is the cut off moment. If you have gained nothing from Berserk up until the end of Volume 2, there’s probably nothing in this story for you.
So the arc opens with a meaningless witch hunt. The screaming defendant is clearly innocent because beauty equals goodness in Berserk, yet she is decapitated in front of a crowd anyway to please Jabba the Potatohead over here.
Tumblr media
His main henchman is a catholic priest who kisses up to his physically intimidating boss with the power of divine authority. It’s a familiar character to anyone who just watched Infinity War last month.
Tumblr media
No not this guy... Hold on...
Tumblr media
There’s the one.
Anyway the setup is pretty standard. There’s a crooked, church-sanctioned massacre going down and Guts the handsome cowboy comes in to save the day. With a flick of his sword and a little bit of luck he... has to run away.
Tumblr media
Under the cover of shadow and with the help of a mutilated old quack doctor, Guts and Puck manage to escape the town square for a moment, but not before carving up a few soldiers and inspiring one to take revenge at any cost. While that guy gets the unholy power to kill Guts from Meatneck Potatosack’s slug demon, Guts and Puck learn that the noseless doctor who saved them is the way he is not because of any deal with the devil, but because Dickhead Potatertot decided to EAT Doc’s spare limbs and spare family members in front of him.
Tumblr media
Guts not being able to bully his way out of this situation? A heathen doctor who turns out to just be a good guy pushed to the edge? A demon-hunting king who moonlights as a demon? The theme of the day clearly is masks. Don’t think you know a person just because you caught a look at their face. Unless they’re a nameless fodder minion.
Tumblr media
Or a nameless old guy who happened to ask if a fellow human being was okay.
Tumblr media
Yeah. that’s what you get for having empathy you prick. Also, notice how little fanfare this death gets compared to:
Tumblr media
It’s a li~~iitle different.
The arc goes on, Guts faces the vengeful slugtato monster and saves Doc for all of twelve seconds until the guards catch up with him. King Saltn’Vinegar puts Doc to death as a show to draw Guts into a trap.
Puck contrasts Guts’s learned apathy with concern: while Guts runs away from Doc’s execution, Puck does their best to stop the procedure, fruitlessly of course. Puck gets captured and given as a gift to Lord Idaho’s Daughter.
Here’s where the masks begin to peel.
It turns out King Tater has a daughter he cares about, his one human trait.
Despite his constant and unforgivable atrocities, all he wants is to have a relationship with his daughter, which is obviously impossible because he’s a malicious demon and she’s a pure princess.
Guts eventually fights his way to Slugtato himself and is thoroughly trounced. The invincible warrior’s persistence cannot overcome...
Tumblr media
this...
Guts gets some good licks in, sure, but ultimately King Pringle beats him unconscious. And then:
Tumblr media
This happens. Guts finds an opportunity to use the pretty princess against her father, FINALLY an opportunity to screw the world back. And he takes it with gusto.
Tumblr media
No honor, no boundaries, just a cheeky grin from Guts as he uses the same dirty tricks against the evil king as the evil king used on him.
It’s at this point. This point here, is where... the segment that got me to care about this series begins.
Given the opportunity, Guts doesn’t just kill the Starch Lord. He tortures him.
Tumblr media
And for once, the wanton violence, the blood, the guts, the gore...
felt just a little...
Tumblr media
Cathartic.
Tumblr media
Soon after, the potato’s demon eggmcguffin transports all relevent charaters to MC Escher’s Shadow Realm where Guts’s final bosses live.
Our hero, looks like a tenderized porkchop. He hobbles toward the object of his rage, a pretty demon called Griffith, as the fiends present lord French Fry with a choice.
Tumblr media
Your eternal damnation?
Tumblr media
Or your daughter’s?
Also, Potato-head’s wife the queen fell on the “madonna” side of the two female characterizations in Berzerk, so... Boohoo for King Tato? I guess?
It’s protrayed as his own trauma but it really falls flat for me. There could be so many layers to what happened in that room that get explained away with the misogynistic explanation that, “Tater Queen was a hoe”
Tumblr media
It’s problematic. At risk of doubling the length of this review, I’m going to save this concept for a later post. There’s a lot to unpack here.
In his first onscreen act of... kindness? Tato king keeps his mouth shut and lets the demon-centipede bring him to hell for the sake of his daughter.
Tumblr media
And better yet: despite the differences in their character... Vengeance is a sin. Tato is dragged down by none other than Doc himself.
Tumblr media
Guess hell doesn’t care who started it.
Guts’s attacks bounce off Griffith’s shiny codpiece, but Griffith’s demons fail to drag Guts to hell. With the ceasefire, the demons dump the humans back on earth, and Guts is left alone with Princess Theresia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After a brief conversation, it becomes clear how similar these two are. Guts is a child, thrust into a world that doesn’t care and actively wants him dead, by no fault of his own. Unable to keep the girl safe, like the priest and his daughter in the covered wagon, like Doc, like everyone else he’s failed... Guts helps her the only way he knows how.
Tumblr media
He gives her a goal. A target to focus on. He becomes her Griffith.
Tumblr media
He wouldn’t wish this life on his worst enemy. And yet. It’s the only life he knows how to live.
_________________________
It’s not fair to ask a person to spend precious moments of their life consuming a long-running shonen manga if they don’t like it.
I bring this up because over the course of this arc I have come to understand what it is about this series that enamors people so much with Kentaro Miura’s gritty, brutal, and downright tragic story.
I don’t love Guts, and my feelings for Puck are lukewarm at best. they don’t make me laugh and despite all their hardship, they have yet to make me cry. I don’t care at all for this world of harsh shadows and useless, braindead goons who die in an instant to nobody’s surprise or concern. I don’t care for how women are either portrayed as beautiful objects fresh for the slaughter, or disgusting harlots who deserve to die, rather than as people who want things and resist this cruel world.
I don’t care about any of it. In fact, I want to look away.
But if I do that...
Tumblr media
Then Guts will be all alone.
And no depiction of distasteful, sickening gore will ever be worse than the guilt I would feel if I ever left this poor child’s fate uncertain in my own mind. No matter how much I complain about the themes, no matter how much I gripe about sometimes stiff art... I have to see Guts’s story through to the bitter end. And if Mr. Miura feels similarly, it might explain why after 25 years he still continues producing his depressing manga, despite clearly moving on to new interests.
Tumblr media

Randy Savage Unreleased: The Unseen Matches of the Macho Man
youtube
Tumblr media
Freak out, freak out, oh yeahhhhh…..sorry I could not resist, but kicking off an entry with that iconic catchphrase means it is time to cover a Macho Man home video collection. In 2018 WWE gave Macho Man the ‘Unreleased’ DVD treatment, a line of several DVD match collections containing entirely never before released on home video matches. I already covered one on here several months ago dedicated to Hulk Hogan, so it would only seem appropriate to cover another one dedicated to his Mega Powers partner, Randy Savage. Like the Hogan DVD, it has a gratuitously long title in the form of Randy Savage Unreleased: The Unseen Matches of the Macho Man (trailer). If you are into these ‘Unreleased’ sets, then check back here later this year as there are two other semi-recent installments I plan on knocking out by the end of this year. Randy Savage Unreleased is jacked with content at three discs tallying up nine hours of material. There is a total of 41 (!!) matches and 9 promos spanning Macho’s career in WWF and WCW from 1985 through 1999. Also interspersed every several matches is one of 10 newly recorded panel discussion segments with Corey Graves, Bayley, Sean Mooney and Diamond Dallas Page. The panel discussions are not throwaway one-to-minute quick takes, but instead each are nearly several minutes each where all four panelists reminisce about each stage of Macho’s career with Mooney and Page both having pivotal on-hand accounts for how Savage was at that point backstage too. Page has detailed memories of his classic WCW rivalry with Randy and recounts a story I was all ears for about a voice mail he left for Macho on Thanksgiving. Hearing Bayley’s love for Randy was an interesting perspective to take in since she states she was not aware of him until his WCW years. Corey Graves’ passion for the 1993-as-hell Macho Man rap music video rubbed off on me as I never saw it before this collection and I will link to it here so you can have it forever imprinted into your mind as well.
Tumblr media
Obviously I am not going to dissect each and every one of the 41 matches included here, but I will point out some highlights. In general, the quality of matches is fairly solid, and even though a fair amount of the first nine matches are in Macho’s early years with mostly quick, dominant encounters they were still a delight to watch his character evolve from coming out with a cape to adding in his vintage 80s bandana and ring robe and seeing his then-wife Miss Elizabeth join his side. Some early things that caught my eye were Macho’s first TV match in June of 1985 against Aldo Marino where the hype of Randy being the ‘hottest free agent’ attracted all of WWF’s managers to ringside to scout him in action. One of Jesse Ventura’s few WWF matches is here where he tags with Macho Man shortly before he succumbed to a career-ending injury not too long after signing with the WWF. I dug Savage’s first matches on here against formidable competition like former tag champ and Mark Henry manager, Tony Atlas and unearthing a high quality 1986 WWF match against the hidden gem of 80s WWF enhancement talent in one Scott McGhee. When it shifts into his Intercontinental title run, there is a good rematch included with Ricky Steamboat that had a red hot crowd and countless near falls and another good match against Steamboat where he teamed up with Honky Tonk Man against Steamboat and Hogan. His WWF Title run era features must-see WrestleMania-rematches against Ted Dibiase and Hulk Hogan.
Tumblr media
Of all of Randy Savage’s flamboyant ring attires, the one I fondly remember the most was his over-the-top cowboy hat and full body attire complete with tassels. I had no idea until going through this collection that he started rocking that classic look midway through his two year run as the ‘Macho King’ with Queen Sherri by his side. The only notable match in this collection from that run is another WrestleMania-rematch with the mixed tag bout with Macho King and Sherri against Dusty Rhodes and Sapphire. There are nearly a dozen matches from Savage’s final few years in WWF after his reinstatement, but only three truly standout. One is a unique trios pairing that has Randy teaming with Piper and Jim Duggan against Ric Flair, Undertaker and Jake the Snake, while the other is another tag bout with Randy teaming with the Dead Man to take on Ric Flair and Berzerker. Seeing the chemistry between Savage and Undertaker was something special to say the least. Lastly, Savage has a heck of a bout with a post-Red Rooster, Terry Taylor in one of the better technical matches on the set. There are a few key WCW matches to point out in here from the eight included. One is where he is part of the teaming with the Hulkster against the Dungeon of Doom and hitting all the classic Mega Powers spots, including hitting an elbow on Hogan to wake him up after he succumbed to a sleeperhold. There is an awesome Nitro match on here against Ric Flair…which has a cruddy finish unfortunately, but everything else leading up to it is the best wrestling in this entire set. The most peculiar match on here is Savage wrestling on a C-tier weekend morning WCW show, {Pro} where he takes on Kurasawa and has Hulk Hogan by his side too in a strange twist. I am guessing Savage and Hogan must be tight with Kurasawa because these two were making huge money for limited dates in WCW and to have both of them appear in this weekend morning show match is a head scratcher…..it would be kind of like tuning in to Main Event now and seeing Brock Lesnar wrestling. The final match in the set was a surprisingly delightful schmoz of a mixed tag match with Savage and Madusa teaming up with Ric Flair and “Lil Naitch” himself, Charles Robinson! I expected the worst going in considering this was in 19990 when WCW was beginning its downward ratings spiral in its last couple years, but the four pull off a lot of entertaining spots and salvaged a heck of a performance.
Tumblr media
Randy Savage Unreleased is a fairly strong compilation of matches and promos from Macho Man. I would say about a third of it is skippable, and there are a few teases of intriguing match-ups that wrapped up far too quick thanks to poor booking, like a WCW contest against Curt Hennig for example. I have no idea why there were two ho-hum matches against Mr. Hughes included either. That is almost to be expected of these ‘Unreleased’ collections, and seeing Savage’s character, moveset, attire and personality evolve from beginning to end is also fascinating in and of itself. I am glad we got a fair smattering of vintage Macho Man promos throughout his career, with his campaigning reinstatement speech and the aforementioned music video standing out the most of the bunch. Having a break from the 41 matches with the occasional promo and panel discussion segments are appreciated breathers from the action, and the panelists all bring a lot of classic Macho Man stories and memories to the table. This all adds up to Randy Savage Unreleased: The Unseen Matches of the Macho Man being a must-see for any Randy Savage aficionado.

Necrocracy / Impenitent - Necrocracy / Impenitent  (split CD)
 III: Barbarism
One of the most extreme acts to play at this year's Hordes of Belial Festival, black metallers Necrocracy certainly left their mark on crowd and me. So when at their merch table I saw this for sale for good price, I had to go get it. Little did know until I was home that this was actually a split release! A nice bonus. How nice though? Let’s dig in and find out.
Hogging the album art and the reason for the disguised split, up first of course is Necrocracy. They present a neat package of 3 tracks and a live track, of a unique mash of stompy sounding black metal, with some death metal punches. Giving a sound that's in a 70:30 black to death ratio. Kicking off with fury is “The Berzerker”, that doesn’t waste any time getting stuck in. With some wild tremolo picked guitar grooves and discordant black metal riffs, (throwing a solo for good measure too). Backed with a full sounding bass (a rarity in black metal standards), while the drum unleashes barbaric waves of blasts and thrash like snare abuse. Before quickly getting settled into a rhythmic back and forth kind of sound, providing much stomp. Vocals are a harsh mix of death metal swine growls and black metal shrieks all in a thickly distorted muddy fuzzed production cloud.
Track two “Survivalist” lashes on a stun gun long low growling shriek intro, before rocking an epic Darkthrone “Transylvanian” riff. Super! After circling the block a few times with this, the band settles into a slower groove stomp as before. The stomping comes mostly from the drumming, that bang and bash out quite the array of blasts and strum along in a monotonous way that keeps the band all in the same 2 or 3 gears for the other tracks too. Monotony can work in black metal though (just look at Burzum and the likes) so this isn't the worst thing, and there are great riff ideas and intro parts to make this pass well with the Kvlt crowd. For all their mighty fury and hellish noise they make, they are just not that very memorable songs. More than once I forgot I was listening to this until the final live track came on (jolting me awake with the louder mix. A more death metal orienteered track too). On stage, these guys were as on fire as a Norwegian church would be in 1993! A brutal punch in the jaw kind of anger came forth, unfortunately, it seems the release, however, fails to truly capture their energy, instead gives us a passable blackened death release, that is smoldering but not truly alight, yet... [7/10]

http://necrocracymetal.bandcamp.com
youtube
Now to the bonus ball and band 2 of the split, the anonymous duo of Impenitent enter; bumping the volume up by a punch. If Necrocracy muddied the waters a bit with the death metal ideas added to the black metal stream: Impenitent filters the stream back to a pure black metal sound.
Truly epic and grand jangly black riffs spring forth immediately giving me the church burning chills right from the start. The guitars on this are excellent, there is a horde full of great moments just in the guitars. Drums too do a robust job filling the sound with all the right boxes ticked there too, completing the void from the absent bass. Vocals on this side are just a fuzzy in the mix but work better with their Immortal influenced sound, but the pull in so much more. Track 2 is a thrashier number full of blackened spikes, a Viking metal edge comes in on last track with some choir vocals, the acoustic guitar gets an airing, and a splash of keys in there too.
Unfortunately with any split release: it invites completion, and its then impossible to not compare bands on some level, but if I have to pick the “subjective” better band Impenitent would win. They just seem to have more ideas and fresher dynamics to the tracks (they change gear more.) to keep me invested more. Although with more drawn out tracks so some ideas will wear thin with some folk. The fury too is toned down slightly and is not as angry though. Overall though this is a wickedly interesting walk down the blackened path once more. [8/10]

A great and easy way to display the real beginning of a video game "art renaissance" The Atari we may remember may be long gone but their memories will always be in our hearts, and on our walls. These art portrait representations never looked better over 40 years, they're high quality prints with a good weight and thickness to them. This is my nostalgia and a great way for us to look back at the beginning of true video game art. Go to Amazon
Great book, great art, but some strange omissions. A treasure and a disappointment. Amazing quality. The pages are high-color images on sturdy card stock. It's great as a book to look at or posters to take out and frame. The main drawback is some of the art they chose as posters. Some of the most iconic Atari art is absent. There is no Space Invaders, Adventure, Defender, or Berzerk artwork and yet there are three separate posters of Centipede and Asteroids. Also, two of the most iconic pieces of game art, Yars Revenge and Warlords, are on opposite sides of the same sheet. That means you can only display one at a time unless you buy two books. Go to Amazon
Buy the companion book and put it on your coffee table for people to look through, instead I loved the book to which this is a companion piece. I like this, but it could be better. Go to Amazon
High quality artwork with just a few minor drawbacks Unbeatable price for the quality of prints, and a decent selection of games that should have something for everyone. As other reviewers have noted, the 40 posters are on 20 pieces of paper...so if you're looking to frame them you need to buy two copies of the collection. Some of my personal favorites of the covers represented here include the two Missle Commands, Surround, Super Breakout, and Warlords. Would have been nice if this included games like Codebreaker, Air Sea Battle, of any of the Activision games (such as Pitfall!)... and fewer generic sports titles. I'm sure there are licensing issues with some of the games that are missing, but maybe we'll see more in a volume 2?? Go to Amazon
Worth the 35 year wait... This poster book is amazing capturing the artwork produced by Atari for its games. My formative years were spent with this art and it's nice to now be able to hang it anywhere I want. Super Breakout in the hallway, Haunted House (2 pieces included!!) in the guest bedroom, and Asteroids is going up in the powder room. Go to Amazon
This book is amazing. Very high quality prints on heavy stock This book is amazing. Very high quality prints on heavy stock. The one gripe I have is that it was not easy to peel the adhesive on the first page which happened to be the picture I was most excited about framing. I ended up peeling some of the print off in the process. I am chalking it up to the adhesive being sticky due to the heat, but I can't say for sure. I am going to buy another one hoping this time I can get the Milliped poster off without ruining it. Go to Amazon
very sturdy book of amazing Atari artwork Very large, very sturdy book of amazing Atari artwork! It is worth picking up for either a companion to the Art of Atari book itself, or just as a poster collection. Personally the sports posters are not my thing, but the art is fantastic. Well worth the money you pay for it, if you are a fan of old art, specifically Atari's art for their home consoles, then this book is for you. Go to Amazon
I have to say I'm a little disappointed that much of the art is sports related The stock of the posters is thick and is quality, for sure. Go to Amazon
Five Stars Five Stars Less pixels more art showcases these iconic images beautifully in the pages of an oversized softcover book that ... I framed mine! Five Stars Five Stars Poster collection ready to be hung on every gamer's wall Five Stars Awesome!
