September 15, 2021 | “Egyptian Desert” Microworld by Benny Productions
Lately I have been watching YouTube videos by the digital artist Benny (Benny Productions), and one of his Photoshop projects is to create microworlds, which look like 3D “worlds,” like cubes taken out of the earth. In one of his YouTube videos, titled “This is NOT 3D SOFTWARE? | How I Create ‘Microworlds’,” he describes his process of creating these microworlds in Photoshop. The microworld he creates is the “Egyptian Desert.”
He takes stock images and “fits” them into a template cube image. I assume the underground portion of the microworld may not be accurate, though (I say this not knowing what kind of rock is under the Sahara Desert even, so why am I even commenting? Heh.).
According to Geography’s “The Geology of the Sahara”:
Named for the Arabic word for desert, sahra, this vast region sits on top of the warped, deformed, and folded African Shield, composed of some of the oldest rocks on the planet, forged when life was limited to single-celled creatures living in the oceans. These older rocks underlying the present-day Sahara are mostly granite, schist, or gneiss, all mixtures of igneous and metamorphic rocks forged deep beneath the surface. The rocks that form the African Shield were laid down near the surface, buried, remelted, re-fused, and returned finally to the surface. The African Shield comprises the hard bedrock of Africa and has held the continent together during the hundreds of millions of years that it has been split, shifted, twisted, and rammed into Europe as a result of the movement of the crustal plates.
What all of that looks like from a cross-sectional perspective, I have no clue.
You can see all the microworlds he has made on his website. The Egyptian Desert is #10.

SEKHMET
First born of Ra. She was the lion goddess of war and vengeance. Also from disease and medicine. She was a symbol of strength and power, and it was said that her breath created the desert.

It’s so funny bc I thought this scene in invincible was a moon knight parody bc the guy looks just like Oscar Isaac but it turns out the invincible episode was released an entire year before moon knight and it’s just a total coincidence

Safiya the Sakhmet, Lost Desert resident kyrii! She's a freelance scribe; if you've got copper ingots, she's there to make sure you complain about 'em. On papyrus. So it's official. She's got a big crush on this dancer from a Qasalan performing troupe. She's been offering services to the troupe at discount just to get a chance to flirt with her.

At long last, this picture is finished! I worked several months on this, trying to push myself to finally incorporate some more interesting perspective angles and landscapes into my works.
This is a little visual preview of what's going on in my writing right now. Currently working on my second manuscript featuring Demetra, "Prophet's Grave". It seems she's left the comforts of the capital city Cheienna and ended up... well, where exactly? And what new challenges will she face there?

I swear to God though I will murder Hollywood solely for the part it played in making people think Egypt was mostly sand and barren desert villages, instead of literally a very lush, very green, river valley and river delta. You know, because the whole reason ancient Egypt was as successful as it was, is the fucking Nile

the kavetham brainrot is real, I have multiple foreign language tests this week and I’m starting two new courses but instead I’ve been researching architectural styles of the middle east, north africa, and southeast asia to be able to write this akademiya era fic because Kaveh is a genius and a passionate prodigy and I refuse to not write him as such.
after multiple hours of research and a lot of reading, I am now extremely angry and disappointed about how genshin dropped the ball with indo-islamic architecture in the rainforest, it could’ve been so colorful and beautiful and connected to real architecture. but it’s so orientalist in game. ironically the desert is better in terms of architectural adhesion to real cultures. pls ask me about it im going crazy
