Summary: Headcanons for if you were a pirate and Varian's s/o

Genre: mostly fluff with a bit of angst

Notes: I love sea shanties so yes. Also I'm just doing headcanons for this bc I tried writing a fic but my motivation and inspiration dried up. Reader is 21 and Varian is 20.

Warnings: bit of blood and small stab wound, cursing

He absolutely LOVES your voice, no matter what you think about it

He will beg you to sing any songs you learned from sailing or other pirates

His favorite is the Wellerman (this is my favorite and I'm definitely projecting shhhh)

"Please, Y/N! You like singing it, I like hearing it, it all works out!

"Fine, but this is the last time today."

"Yay!"

There once was a ship that put to sea...

You steal little things that remind you of him while on your travels

It's mostly rare chemicals and shit that he mentions in passing

You remember everything he needs

He never once gives you any lists of stuff, but you come home with a big ass bag full of stuff for him every time

"Y/N, this is too much."

"Nonsense! You said you needed all this shit so I got it for you!"

"...did you pay for any of it?"

"...maybe, maybe not. You can't prove anything!"

"Babes, you know I love it when you get me alchemy stuff, but can you at least try to pay for it?"

"...with money I've stolen or..."

"Oh my god. You're impossible."

The first thing you ever bought with your own money was new alchemy beakers for him

You also find little things for Rapunzel to bribe her into letting you date Varian

Eugene and Lance tell you stories about their thieving days and you take notes on what got them caught

You eventually win Ruddiger and Max over using stolen apples

Varian demands you come back every time you get injured so he can take care of you, and while he wouldn't know if you didn't, it goves you an excuse to come back to visit

"Babes, I get that it's dangerous on the high seas, but how the fuck do you get so injured? It's almost like you do it on purpose..."

"Well, you're not really wrong there..."

"Y/N! THAT'S NOT GOOD!"

"Whaaaaat? It gives me an excuse to come back and see your handsome face."

"And while I love seeing you, there has to be a different way."

"This is nothing. This stab wound is practically nothing compared to what I've had to deal with before. Besides..."

"Let me guess, I should see the other guy? Also, that isn't comforting or surprising in the slightest and I can't decide which is worse."

"Ding ding ding! I'll be fine! 'Tis but a scratch."

"Not just a scratch. Your shirt is covered in dried blood."

"Most of it isn't mine..."

Cassandra joined your crew at one point while on her travels

You noticed her name was familiar from Varian's stories about her, but didn't question it

Cassandra's a common enough name, right? She wasn't the same one who kidnapped your partner and almost killed him?

To be fair, you almost had the first time you guys met

He had seen your sword and wanted to get a closer look

He had barely put a finger on it before you had shoved him against the wall and put it against his neck.

He was down bad immediately.

"No one touches my fucking sword except me or the people who get it in the gut. Got it?"

"L-loud and clear."

"Alright. Can I buy you a drink? That got a little out of hand there."

"That would be nice."

She caught you writing a letter to Varian one time and you guys found out how you know about her

"Whoa, what's that?"

"Believe it or not, Cassandra, but it's a letter. For someone really important to me."

"Oh do tell. Who is so special that they've got the mighty Captain Y/N blushing like a small child?"

"First, I'm blushing like a Captain. Second, if you really need to know, his name is Varian."

"Oh my god, wait. Varian?"

"Yeah?"

"Kinda short, black hair with a blue stripe in the bangs, raccoon with him all the time, absolutely loves alchemy?"

"Wait, do you know him?!"

"Know him? I almost killed that little shit!"

"Wait a minute, YOU'RE THAT CASSANDRA?!"

"HE TALKS ABOUT ME?!"

"He said something about a kidnapping some years back. Said you were a great friend until you got corrupted and then un-corrupted."

"Huh. Would've expected a worse report from him."

Okokok, quick rant

Okay, so we all know Cassandra from Tangled the series, right? imagine after everything that happened she decides to go away from corona for a bit, just to clear her head a little and to kind of give herself a break, and then she meets this extremely welcoming pirate crew where everyone on it has gone through some kind of villain arc and some of them simply want to become a better person.

Cass decides to join the crew, initially its just temporary since she wants to go back to corona at some point.

however things change when she falls inlove with her captain, and now Cass cant decide whether she should stay and hope for her [the captain] to love her back, or go back home to corona and hope she loses these feelings.

then, she finally decides that she'll confess to the captain one evening and she promises herself that if she gets rejected she'll just go home and stay back with rapunzel.

but then the captain actually loves her back and now she wants to stay with the crew, but she misses home and cant choose.

so now she talks about it with her new girlfriend and they decide to go to corona and let rapunzel and the rest meet the crew.

in the end Cassandra gets to have a happy life with her badass girlfriend and every so often they dock near corona and visit to tell people about all of their adventures.

i just couldnt get this idea out of my head, and now im wondering, should i write actually write this?? let me know!

As the song ["Bad Reputation"] began playing, they [Raps, Marika Kato, and Cass] all sang along. Their voices were so loud that people could hear them on the island below. One of those people was the brown-haired man whose boat had arrived on the island's docks: Eugene Fitzherbert. His light brown eyes spotted the dinghy flying through the sky. He saw a woman with blonde hair inside. He was taken aback. "Blondie?" he asked confusedly. He wondered why the woman he loved was speeding away from the planet at a high rate of speed.

Wounds don’t just magically heal. He has had more than enough of them to know that.

Chapter 27: Sick - Eugene + Cassandra

Eugene woke up feeling…not great. There was an ache and heaviness to his limbs. A chill his body could seem to shake, though he could feel himself sweating. The light pouring into his window was somehow too bright. And all he wanted to do was roll back over and go to sleep. He knew he was sick.

Chapter 28: Whispers - New Dream

Rapunzel was used to whispers. In royal and noble circles they were generally unavoidable. People like to talk, and to be fair, Rapunzel often gave them things to talk about. From cutting her hair short one time, to her artist style in painting, to all the extra studies and activity. Even about her close friendship with her handmaiden, Cassandra. Some claimed she was more like her Aunt Willow than her mother. Either way, she was used to them.

Chapter 29: Games - New Dream

“Don’t play games.” Eugene said in slight warning. “I am not.” Rapunzel assured innocently.

Chapter 30: Ring - New Dream

Rapunzel looked at the ring on her finger. Watching it glint in the moonlight that poured in through the window. Then Eugene laying beside her.

Basics of the AU are as follows: Skull is definitely of the pirate persuasion, but definitely not the captain of a ship. Possibly he’s a former Wench that took up the opportunity to not be stationed at a port because his bestfriend was tired of seeing him suffer the outcome of rough trade. He owns an awful lot of soft clothing--gifts from former clientele--but he owns more sharp things. You only see the one cutlass, but he absolutely has other things. Billy is absolutely, 100% not pirate material and did not sign up for being on a boat in the middle of the ocean at least one third of his time--he has sea sickness for the first three months--where he burns to a crisp if he’s above deck in midday. He is an explorer, a researcher, an intellect of highest esteem--a member of the royal court like all of his forefathers--who blushes like a maiden every time he sees Skull fresh out of bed at breakfast. Still working on the rest.
