Cap-IM Rec Week - Day 7
Today’s list is short--it’s highlighting work you wouldn’t normally give a chance to, and that’s pretty rare for me. I give everything a shot because I’m a greedy whore when it comes to Stevetony. But here are two works that standout and that I thoroughly loved. I’ve really enjoyed @cap-ironman Rec Week--if you’re looking for more recs, check out @stevetonyweekly where I post all the Stevetony content I read each week.
Tiny Spy Assassin Steve by copperbadge
An AU in which Steve Rogers was born into the modern day and never received the Serum, but managed to make it into SHIELD as a handpicked protege of senior field agent Abraham Erskine. Along with Phil Coulson, Clint Barton, Natasha Romanoff, Peggy Carter, and eventually Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, Steve still tries to make a difference.
Particularly in the life of Tony Stark, who picked up what he thought was an art student in a bar, and ended up dating one of SHIELD's top agents...
I am EXTREMELY picky about pre-serum Steve fics and this one is just--fan-fucking-tastic.
[Podfic] Straight on till Morning by Sineala by M_Samro
Tony Stark resigned his commission in Starfleet five years ago, after a disastrous away mission, and he swore he'd never go back. He just wants to be left alone to build warp engines in peace. But the universe has more in store for him than that, as he discovers when Admiral Fury comes to him with an offer he could never have expected and cannot possibly refuse: first officer and chief engineer aboard the all-new USS Avenger, a starship of Tony's own design. What's more, the Avenger's captain is Steve Rogers, hero of the Earth-Romulan War. Believed dead for over a century, Steve is miraculously alive... and very, very attractive.
But nothing is ever easy for Tony. As he wrestles with his secret desire for his new captain and his not-so-dormant fears, another mission starts to go wrong, and Tony becomes aware that Steve has secrets of his own -- and the truth could change everything.
So this fic--podfic--deserves two spots on the list. First because I almost didn’t read it. Star Trek was the first media I can remember watching as a child (dear god, the nightmares from those fucking ear bugs) and it remains one of the nearest and dearest to my heart, so I’m extremely picky about crossovers--but I trusted Sine and it quickly became one of my favorite Trek fics, in or out of the fandom. I’m ALSO picky about podfic--I get very very little time for podfic and I’m super picky narrators on these kinds of things--audiobooks/podfics/podcasts--so I wasn’t sold on the idea, but I had a house to paint and a friend rec’ed it and omg, best decision ever. As emotional as the reading the fic made me, listening to the podfic was even more so. I love it to an unhealthy degree, honestly.

📝Peter Parker
| Send Me A 📝/[Memo]
Okay so I mostly use the Peter / Spiderman from the 2017 cartoon aka Marvel's Spider-Man. Because this would be the same one in the same verse for the Avengers we write for.
Tumblr media
Peter attends Horizon High but before he transferred schools he went to the same one as Nina. (Nina and Brook in the start tots au)
Tony knew Peter's identity first because of the time they meant and interacted it wasn't hard for him to connect the webs (ha!) between the spider hero kid and the awkward teen kid that both fanned over him in the same manners.
As Spidey Peter accidentally lost Cap's shield in a villain's home, HE DID GO TO THE DOOR TO ASK FOR IT BACK! but yeah that turned into a mess.
In star tots au he would for sure notice that Brook was getting bullied because...he also got bullied before he got to transfer schools. He joins Nina on the revenge for Brook quest though.
When it comes to Nina and Brook they are basically his sisters. Nina and he share interests in heros and science gadgets. Not to mention you never want to be thier target when it comes to a sassing marathon. They are both bad on thier own but when they can bounce off each other?
Peter loves getting to be a nerd in another sense with Brook. They like a lot of similar book series and have a sort of book club. They watch the movie adaptions and annoy Nina because they don't shut up about everything that was done wrong.
Not from this show but other things that I think fit well, Petes birth parents were in SHEILD as agents. But of course, died he doesn't know about the connection but a few members of the team have found out. So Peter having a spot with the team now is kind of a nice way to have something he lost. I don't plan him, ever finding out. Just a fun connection for him.
Peter often dose do a lot of solo work getting work outside of the whole avengers stuff but if he in need of help he's asking Nina and Brooke to come with him
Tony's the one who brought Spider-man in to the tower, he went around in full costume for about six months.
Nina and Brook were the first he told his identity to, likely holds more weight in the star tots au, but it was still a big moment for him. he still keeps the whole secret identity for a bit longer before feeling full comfortable with sharing it with the rest of the team
Really really really needs and wants Steve to like him to but he feels like he aint doing enough there. He feel the same towards Tony as well but least with Tony the being smart thing helps.
Pete actually has helped Nina study a lot for school. And she dose the same they are study buddies.
Peter walks on eggs shells the most around Peggy, he was raised by his Aunt May so he's good about manners. But he gets a bit nervous on how to properly be respectful to the Peggy Carter.
Brook has someone to share cursed food with because Peter is one a growing boy and already eats trash and apparently likes gross food combos u-u yes im disappointment but hey someone on Brooks side at last.

My tourettes and vocal tics are so bad today that I feel sick to my stomach, and I don't know why this is happening. It's usually so chill. And it extra sucks because I'm actually well rested today, so my brain isn't foggy and I actually feel motivated to do shit (like write). I even woke up and stayed awake at 10am, like?? That hasn't happened in a million years. I guess it only makes sense that there had to be some sort of trade off, yeah? 😭😂 It's days like this when having a roommate is hard. It makes me want to spend the day in my car somewhere

I love your fics sm keep it up - a fellow italian <3 (I saw that in your bio and I loved it)
Love is not always easy
Peggy Carter x reader
Marvel Masterlist ~ Buy me a coffee☕️
"We got the rods, where are you?" Peggy's voice resounds in the device on the ground and a small smile appears on your lips, seeing the irritated gaze of the blonde in front of you.
"You interfering ..."
"Last chance, Miss Frost"
Your determined gaze doesn't leave her face as she looks at you with hate.
"Same to you, Agent y / n"
You jump forward and try to hit her in the face but she grabs her arm. A black substance begins to come out of her hand and spreads over your skin. A groan of pain escapes you from her lips and you try to get away from her grasp quickly, you head and kick her away with a kick in the stomach but you lose your balance. The wooden railing breaks and you fall, grabbing, thanks to who knows what miracle, a wooden plank on the ledge. You try to hold onto yourself with all your strength, ignoring the thorns that enter your hand.
Whitney gets up from the floor and walks resolutely towards you. A smile appears on her lips as she places her hands on her hips and she watches you be there, poised.
"Oh I'm sorry Agent y / n. Not everyone's cut out for Hollywood "
Whitney kneels, holding out her hand so you can grab it, but your grip slips before your fingers brush and you fall.
You hear someone yell your name and see a man take Whitney away, shocked by what happened. You tilt your head and look at your body, understanding the reason for your pain.
An iron rod has literally stabbed you and blood begins to flow from the wound, dyeing your white shirt red.
"Y / n!"
Peggy runs to your side and you start moaning in pain. She takes out a handkerchief and with trembling hands, she presses it around the wound trying to stop the bleeding as much as possible.
"Please, stay with me, stay with me y / n"
The rest of the journey is confusing, you just remember Jarvis and Peggy dragging you into the car and then nothing. Just dark.
When you open your eyes again, and you do it for the pain, you realize you are on a sofa, in a house you don't know.
"Well awake ... the heartbeat is quickened" a blonde, who you recognize to be Sousa's girlfriend, speaks, before looking at your wound. She pulls away your shirt causing you a lot of grunts of pain and then she speaks.
"The bleeding is under control, it would be better if I went to the hospital"
Her tone is worried but you shake your head.
"No! No"
"Then, deep breaths, y / n ... because this is gonna hurt."
As she tilts the bottle of alcohol, you scream in pain as she comes into contact with the open wound.
"Aahh!"
You think you have passed out. When you wake up, Violet is no longer in the living room and Peggy's voice resounds in the room.
«Yes Sousa, she will be fine. Thanks, I'll tell you "
Peggy ends the call, putting the phone down.
She turns to you and, when she sees you awake, her eyes light up and a small smile purses her lips as she comes towards you.
"The uranium rods are safe," she tells you, sitting on the chair opposite the sofa as she helps you sit up.
"Good. So, being skewered like a piece of meat on a spit did something. "
Peggy gives you a dirty look while she gently caresses your face.
"Don't joke y / n, you really made me worry."
"I know and I'm sorry Peg" you close your eyes, enjoying her caresses.
"I almost lost you today ... I can never live such a thing again"
You open her mouth, wanting to tell her it's not her fault, but she shakes her head. Peggy puts her face close to yours and you look at her confused.
"Peg, we can't ... not here"
You whisper those words with your heart sinking with every breath. Her words said too many times, in too many situations and with too much pain. Words repeated over and over, every second of your relationship while hiding from prying eyes, gossip and evil looks. A secret well hidden in the four walls of your room, a secret pact between you, a secret and crazy love. A secret that would have led to your death if not something worse if it had been discovered.
A secret that had to remain so, then.
Peggy smiles and collides your lips. The kiss is sweet, full of hidden love and that feeling that you have been forced to repress for years now.
«I don't care what happens ... I will fight for our love. Today, when I saw you lying there, I thought about all the times we had to hide and I promised myself that we would never have to do it again. Life is too short to love in secret. "
Peggy hugs you in a hug and you relax in her arms.
"I love you Peg"
I look at her softly and your hand reaches her, intertwining your fingers.
"I love you too y / n"
You two stay like that, you look intensely in the eyes. Yors eyes are full of love and you start when someone clears their throat.
"Miss Carter, Miss y / n… Mr. Howard told me that he has booked for you, given today's unpleasant situation, a trip to Italy as soon as Miss y / n feels better."
“Jarvis is wonderful, thank him. From both of us"
The man nods and turns, about to leave the room but stops. He turns back to you and a shy smile appears on his face.
"And Miss Carter ... I wanted to tell you that that was an excellent speech"
Peggy blushes and you giggle, seeing the blush that dyes your soul mate's cheeks.
"Thanks Jarvis"
Peggy murmurs and as soon as Jarvis leaves, he buries his head in the crook of your neck.
“Ugh… it was so embarrassing. Howard will come to find out soon and then- "
"Peg, Howard already knows"
You smile amused and your smile widens even more when you see her shocked face.
"WHAT!?"
Thanks for reading! I hope this is more or less what you asked for. Anyway let's write to each other sometime, it's nice to know that there are Italian people on Tumblr XD. Have a great day!<3
P.s: se vuoi te lo invio in italiano :)
P.p.s: Hello people! In five days it's my and my sister's birthday (yes, we are twins) and since I don't know if I will be able to collect all the money to send her to London (it has always been her dream and I just want to make her happy), I wanted to ask you if you could donate something to buy her a sweatshirt she likes so much. It's a sweatshirt with a cute Larry fanart and it's signed by Harry and she's been dreaming of it for a while and I wanted to make it for her for our birthday. It costs about 70 dollars but I only earned about twenty between one job and another so I wanted to ask you if you could help me. She is very important to me and her happiness matters more than anything else. Thanks so much for your help. <3

Imo i think while Peggy is the subject of bad character writing it's recognized less because unless she had a limited presence in the MCU ( unless you watched Agent Carter which most didn't). Sharon has the same problem tho to a much higher extreme because unless you are following behind the scene stuff or read the comics you get very little of Sharon before TFAWS. Its bad writing but if thats too large a part of what you got for the character its what you now have to judge the character on.
I will say that kind of take on Peggy is much less common and has more to do with not liking how they are handling Peggy now rather than bad character writing alone. But I do think this becomes a problem for many female characters in fandom in general.
Because they are often written badly compared to their male counterparts. And while it's not their fault they are written like that they are fictional characters. How they are written is to a large degree is what they are.
But I think in MCU specifically ( since they are based however loosely on the comics) its also based on fandom latching on to the comic canon vs not. For example its common to hear about comic canon vs the MCU depiction after a movie comes out.
After the Avengers for example people talked extensively about Hawkeye how he is in the comics. And many mcu fans were like damn I know comics and MCU are seperate things but thats a shame they didn't go with that version that seems like so much more fun. Many who didnt read comics started incorporating that version of Hawkeye to their fan content some even started reading Hawkeye comics.
Alternately similar things happened with Bucky and Sharon. People pointing out things like oh Bucky was actually Steve's kid side kick in comics and Sharon had Natasha's role in WS. But unlike with Hawkeye there was less lamenting of what could have been. People felt that the story hit better with Bucky as an adult who was Steve's best friend getting brainwashed. And they felt they liked that position more with Black Widow who they already knew getting this new character dynamic with someone. Rather than bring in another character to put in that position.
So the fan works often didnt bring in that version of Sharon and Bucky.
So imo the frustration with bad character writing is emphasized more when there is a contrast to better wrtten characters ( either other characters bring written better or the same character having been written better in a diff incanation).
And they are shit on that more when there isn't really a version of them a good chunk of people prefer to see instead ( like Sharon for example especially in the movies im seeing more defense now though of the character in the show but might just be people I follow and its actually uncommon).
While the fandom might mourn the loss of good character writing and try to use fandom to fix things in fic if there is a version fandom prefers more ( like Natasha in AOU ).
You get it.
Peggy, Sharon, and Bucky all fall under the same umbrella (with Sam too, and everyone except Fury, Natasha, and Maria) where in a movie starring Steve, their characters essentially worship him. They’re all Steve’s fans who love him unconditionally. In the comics, they had no problem calling him out when he did stupid shit, especially Sharon. But not many people were willing to read their comics because the obsession over how pretty the actors were drowned out any character complaints. Only Hawkeye received enough (very much deserved) complaints that led to the Fraction/Aja series picking up sales and fans. So it allowed Hawkeye to get better writing. They don’t know what to do with the other three, so Bucky’s character plateaus on wanting a new Cap that he approves of, Sharon’s writers bashing her while viewers ask what the fuck, and Peggy just being written to fill in Steve’s shoes because the actress wants to keep working with the MCU and his actor wants to do anything else.

some uh. General and kinda unoriginal thoughts
CATFA and TWS
- Bucky was BIG AS SHIT COMPARED TO STEVE ONCE UPON A TIME LMFAO
- The torture for buck started early on man. When he was held prisoner at that factory. The gears were already in motion. Its sad to see that his fate was basically sealed then
- I need to look up if in the Agent Carter show if bucky is mentioned at all. They obviously had tabs on him, he obviously was photographed and they knew he was the cause for several assassinations throughout history. But nick told steve “we didnt know” but they did because at the end of TWS natasha is able to give steve the file they had on him??? ((EDIT: IVE BEEN TOLD HE ISNT! why not bruh))
- Bucky’s hair in TWS. I WISH my fucking hair looked like that im not lying or exaggerating. One day im gonna roll up to great clips with a screencap of bucky when he first fights steve on the highway and be like “do this.”
- Those dudes watching bucky get braineashed/tortured ??? Bro??? Like holy shit thats humiliating. Having a crowd WATCHING you suffer is beyond fucked
- Bro the ultra glossy-eyed pained look in bucky’s eyes as he’s punching steve in the face 💀💀 made me sad
- totally forgot about the flashback scene where bucky is like “just come move in with me” to steve. Those kids had it hard.
- Sebastian stan is just. I really appreciate him as an actor. Like he genuinely gives CHILLS when he acts as the winter soldier, but can make you feel so at ease as just good old un-trauma-filled bucky. The duality of man.
- I thought about how masks might give bucky ptsd ? Not give him ptsd but like, trigger him. Because of the muzzle/mask they made him wear (even tho it looked badass, srry..)
- Okay time to talk about sam. In TWS i JUST NOW made the connection to how traumatic seeing Rhodey fall in Civil War must have been for him, considering Riley. That made me sad man.
- Sam is so fucking cool and badass he’s my favorite MCU character rn i hate that I never appreciated him before
- What does bucky DO between saving steve from the river at the end of TWS and Civil War? We first see him in Romania (right?) in civil war (which i love. Hell yeah). But whats he doing BEFORE that??? Literally on fucking edge the WHOLe time, probably having night terrors and shit. Trying to figure out who he is and if he’s under anyones control.
- Oh my god Bucky killed JFK????? NOOOOOO FUCK
- So this one site is saying TWS is like. May 2014 (in MCU time of course) and then they date Civil war as June 2016. So HOLY SHIT WHAT WAS BUCKY DOING FOR TWO YEARS??? Can someone give insight?? Pls
- So then thatttt means the time gap between Civil War and TFATWS is. Idk. Infinity war happens in 2018 i think?? So bucky is in the cinematic spotlight now for? TWS(2014) —2–> CW(2016)—frozen for 2–> Infinity War(2018)— blipped for 5–>Endgame(2023). According to two sites, TFATWS takes place a mere 6 months after endgame. So there we have it. Bucky has been out of the ice for like, almost three years, since he was frozen/blipped for 7. Wow. If im wrong let me know PLEASE
- “Whoever he used to be. The guy he is now. I dont think he’s the kind you save, i think he’s the kind you stop”— says sam wilson, mere years before joining said man’s (‘couples’)therapy session via locking thighs.
- Steve tbh kinda left bucky thats like. Yeah okay FINE go live out your life with peggy. Yes thats cute and shit but also you literally left bucky and it WASNT THE END OF THE LINE.
- I desperately wish they gave us footage of Nat’s meeting with bucky, she mentioned it in TWS.
- Civil war bucky literally contemplating his worth as a human is sad. His words! “Idk if im worth all this.” Aka living or dying
- Just noticing how like. Exhasperated bucky was looking at his new arm (in infinity war) like.fine. Where’s the fight ig... He looked so peaceful just chilling with the goats in wakanda bruh
- I literally wont even get into my thoughts on TFATWS
- Both Sam and Bucky oddly enough love sleeping on the floor (i say love but its just the trauma of being a soldier ik) but hey the besties have something else unintentionally (?) In common
- tee hee haha sam and bucky’s ‘meet cute’ was bucky ripping the steering wheel from sam’s hands as he was driving. That’s a good brunch story.

Get ready folks this is gonna be a long post about a topic im very passionate about. Steggy, of course. Fair warning, I'm on the alternate timeline side.
A lot of people have said "if you watched Agent Carter you know that Endgame was ooc for Peggy." As someone who's seen Agent Carter three times through, I'd like to counter that.
The point of AC was never that we were watching her forget Steve, or fall out of love with him, or anything like that. We were watching her live her life. We have a luxury as the audience to know things that characters don't. We know Steve's not dead. Peggy doesn't. In her mind, she listened to him crash a plane into the ocean, of course he's dead. She can't change that. Especially in season one, we are watching her grapple with her feelings of blaming herself for his death, holding onto him, accepting her love for him, and moving on with her life because she has to. And in season two, we see the aftermath of that. She's more open to romantic relationships and she's in a more secure place overall, but the little mentions of him never stop because she'll never really stop loving him. Because fellings don't die with a person.
The woman who said "I suppose I just wanted a second chance at keeping him safe," did not stop loving Steve Rogers. Yes the ending scene of her pouring the blood was beautiful and represented her moving on and letting go, but would we want her not to? Of course not. Because how else are you supposed to react to death? You have to move on or it consumes you. I would never want her to live for 70 more years without letting go of him to an extent. But she didn't forget him. She didn't lose her feelings for him. Because that's different. We saw his picture in her office. She loved him, she said so herself.
I support Peggy moving on, and I support Steve doing the opposite. Why? Because they had two entirely different perspectives of the same situation.
To Peggy, Steve died. Period. That's it. She can't do anything about that. He's dead. To Steve, he lost everything. And she wasn't even dead when he woke up. He made the decision to die for the greater good, but instead was robbed of 70 years of his life. While he did eventually have to deal with Peggy's death, it was a natural death of natural causes that came after a long life. That's not what Peggy had to look at with Steve's death. And with Steve thrown into this new crazy world with extremely advanced and rapidly growing technology, I think it's safe to say that in his darkest moments, he had some "what ifs," some fantasies about time travel. Which is justified. He's allowed to hope. Steve didn't move on because it wasn't the choice he made and technically, if you're being really really ambitious, it didn't have to be something that couldn't be changed, maybe, someday. But a maybe is all you need to have some hope. It wasn't something that had to be accepted because it shouldn't have happened. Peggy moved on because Steve made his choice, that she ultimately agreed with even though it hurt to lose him, and there was absolutely no hope that anything could ever be done about it.
That doesn't mean she wouldn't have changed it if she could. We were shown that in season one. "I wanted a second chance at keeping him safe." In this case, the second chance was holding onto any last piece of him she could and guarding it with her life, but that comment shows that she would have happily taken more than that. Like, actually Steve.
Yeah she lived her life. I'm glad she did. Steve was glad she did. But go back to right after she lost him, she would have done anything to get him back. And even as she lived her life, she never forgot him, she never let him out of that special place in her heart. In AC, she said that she believed Steve was better than her and that she aspired to be like him. She named SHIELD, SHIELD. (Grant Ward said it, "someone really wanted our initials to spell out shield.") She kept a picture of him in her office. And in TWS, we see how happy she was and always would have been that Steve was alive.
It's been confirmed that Steve went back to 1949, which means all of AC is canon in both timelines, which I'm very happy about. That development that we see is important for her, whether she gets him back or not. She'll always know what it felt like to live without him, and of course she doesn't need him to be happy or to live a good life, and she would never think that. But after 4 years of living with him dead, it's been absolutely cemented in her mind that she never wants to do that again. The look on her face during the dance says it all, she is content. She is at peace. Finally. He's ok. She doesn't have to blame herself anymore, she doesn't have to torture herself with what could have been anymore, because that's "no way to live." And she can have everything. She's already started SHIELD at this point, she won't stop being her amazing self just because she has him back, but her life just got that much better.
I think if anything, what AC does for us is show us, for one Peggy moving forward, but also that at the end of the day, her best case scenario is, in a fairly simplified way of putting it but you get it, a good standing in her workplace and Steve. That doesn't mean she needs to have that to be happy or fulfilled, but ideally that's what she wants. We know she gets the first one in timeline A. She is co-founder and long time director of SHIELD and by the end of her life has become pretty iconic if I do say so myself in her field. And in timeline '49 B she gets both. Her best case scenario.
And I for one am a fan of Peggy's happiness. Of her living out her best case scenario. It's what she deserves.

Love Isn’t Always On Time Part Thirty Six
Previous Part | Next Part | Masterlist Notes: Not Beta-Read.  I hope everyone's doing well :) Thanks to everyone that reads/comments/likes/reblogs. Y'all keep me going!
Warnings: None Summary: The service ended and the mourners drifted out after the casket - Sam said something about meeting us back at the hotel, and neither of us answered. I patted his hand when he squeezed my shoulder, but I couldn’t bring myself to speak. I felt a little sick.
Tumblr media
I had been reflecting on my time with Peggy when Sam reached around Steve and poked my arm. I glanced up at the podium and did a double-take when I saw her - the pretty blonde ‘nurse’ that had lived across from Steve’s old apartment in DC. I shot Steve a look and he gave me a small head shake. Great. Something for us to talk about later.  The blonde’s eyes landed on us, and I saw her tense for a moment before she turned her attention to the congregation. “Margaret Carter was known to most as a founder of S.H.I.E.L.D... but I just knew her as Aunt Peggy.” I did my best to tamp my own surprise down, even as I felt Steve take in a sharp breath beside me. I lowered my head, leaning back in the pew and listening to the woman’s eulogy. It was beautiful - captured Peggy to a tee, and reminded me of the moments that I had had with her in a time that shouldn't have been mine - time that could’ve belonged, by all accounts, to her and Steve.
The service ended and the mourners drifted out after the casket - Sam said something about meeting us back at the hotel, and neither of us answered. I patted his hand when he squeezed my shoulder, but I couldn’t bring myself to speak. I felt a little sick.
Steve and I lingered in the church for a while. He got up, unable to sit still, and paced for a while before settling against the pew. I didn’t move, looking down at the program, the date of her death smudged from where my fingers had run over the program so many times. I heard the light thud of heels on carpeting, felt Steve turn, and heard him say, “When I came out of the ice, I thought everyone I had known was gone. Then I found out that she was alive. I was just lucky to have her.” “She had you back, too.” Natasha’s voice was warm, almost soothing in the empty space. I could feel her watching me. “Who else signed?” I asked. I wasn’t sure I could handle any more condolences for the day. “Tony. Rhodey. Vision,” Natasha’s voice conveyed the surprise I felt. “Clint?” Steve asked. Natasha shook her head, “Says he’s retired.” “Wanda?” I asked. “TBD. I'm off to Vienna for the signing of the Accords. There's plenty of room on the jet.” She turned to me, then, “Just because you’re sleeping with him doesn’t mean you have to agree with him all the time.” I cast her a dark look that made her smile widen. “If I was worried a disagreement would ruin our sex life, I would never talk to Steve,” I pointed out, “I have my own reasons for not signing.” “Such as?” “Well, for one, I don’t get into nearly as much of the nitty-gritty as you all do. I have less stake in the game.” “Maybe, but you’re with someone with a massive amount of stake in the game. The Accords could make things safer for him, too. And wasn’t it your tip that sent us into Lagos? If you trace it back, that whole incident could be made your fault. Wanda’s in the public eye, why don’t you take a shot at it for once?” Natasha asked, tipping her head to the side. I felt my jaw clench. “If I was made to answer for sending you all into that situation, I would. My reasoning was sound.” “You had one mission go bad and now you’re afraid of the nitty-gritty. What would Peggy say about that?” She pressed. My hands fisted in the program, Peggy’s face crumpling as I stood, ignoring the head-rush and initial bout of nausea. “If this is your rallying call to get me to your side, it’s not working. You really need to work on your pep talk, Romanoff,” I said icily. I turned, stalking away from the two of them and ignoring the feeling of Steve’s hand trying to catch hold of my wrist.
-- "How are you doing down there?” Steve asked. I felt the bed dip as he pulled the covers back over my head. I grunted in response, face still buried in my pillow.  “She didn’t mean to wind you up like that,” He said softly. “She knew what she doing,” I mumbled, tipping my head up to look at Steve. He looked as tired as I felt. I pushed myself up into a sitting position, pushing the suit jacket off of his shoulders. He complied, shrugging it off and tossing it over the back of the arm chair in the corner of our hotel room. He kicked his shoes off before climbing into bed, pressing his face into my neck. “I didn’t know Sharon was S.H.I.E.L.D,” I commented lightly. “...I forgot to mention it.” I could hear a little bashfulness in Steve’s voice, and I rolled my eyes. “It’s alright, you had other things to worry about that weekend. Fury, Bucky, Sam, Nat... The free world... The fact that you almost died... Again...” I dragged out. Steve lifted his head a little to look me in the eyes. “I wasn’t keeping it from you,” he promised. I lifted my hand, stroking over his cheek gently. “I know,” I nodded, “ ‘m not mad, Stevie. I was just surprised, is all.” Steve’s head dropped back onto my shoulder, and he curled closer, wrapping his arm around my waist. I felt myself getting comfortable just as there was a banging at our door. I groaned, kicking my feet a little. “What now,” I whined as Steve pulled away, getting up and peering through the peephole. He opened the door, frowning, and Sam barrelled in a moment later. “Sam?--” I started, but Sam was already turning on the television, and flipping channels to the news. “You have to see this-- shut the door,” He urged Steve. I pushed myself to the edge of the bed, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes and focusing on the broadcast as Sam turned the volume up: “A bomb hidden in a news van ripped through the UN building in Vienna. More than 70 people have been injured. At least 12 are dead, including Wakanda's King T'Chaka. Officials have released a video of a suspect who they have identified as James Buchanan Barnes, the Winter Soldier, the infamous HYDRA agent, linked to numerous acts of terrorism and political assassinations.”

I heard you were looking for prompts, what do you think it would look like if Steve were around during Agent Carter (s1), like maybe by the Iron Ceiling episode
So, it’s been a loooong while since I’ve seen the Iron Ceiling or any Agent Carter and I don’t have the spoons to watch the show, so we’re gonna improv. So not historically accurate because I am not researching stuff.
This is a full-fledged fic And probably not what you wanted either because this is so rushed out. Rip me
--
“You sound exhausted.”
Despite that Steve was over the phone and given the sound of it, somewhere where there wasn’t much insulation due to the wind in the background, she could tell he was giving that sappy smile. It was combined with a small laugh and the shift of the phone line as it crackled when he held it closer.
“What’s new?” He sighed instead of commenting on Peggy’s statement. It only made her worry more. When she remained silent, he sighed louder. “Pegs, I’m fine. Okay, yes I’m a little exhausted, but so are you on your end given everything. We’re both strained and I...miss you.”
His voice dropped down to the last two words, how desperate it sounded, made her heart drop. She wanted to crawl from this warm bed and wrap her arms around Steve and tuck his cold face into her neck to let him warm up. She wanted to protect him from not just the elements but the aftermath of a war that the public had no idea was about.
He whispered the last two words because he was forced to - not because he had anything to hide, so Peggy told herself this despite it tugged on her in almost a jealous means. They were both professionals, they could remain professional over the phone and in the rare times they got in person. It was the only few times they got to be in private did those veils drops.
Steve being rescued had been nothing short of a miracle, an act of God or whatever deity was out there that was looking out for them. She had been the one to pull him from the ice, one of the first faces he’d seen when he woke up in one of Howard’s private hospitals. She’d been by his side his entire recovery, from learning to walk again and to have some cognitive function. The fact she refused to leave his side [see here: Philips had ordered her under the SSR’s watchful eye to keep an eye on their prized specimen] had resulted in them getting much closer in their relationship.
Not only that, but it had caused her to start the American Branch of the SSR later than she had intended. While the boys in the office had no idea Captain America was alive [as they would all see to it], they knew of her history with Steve and used it against her as much as they could.
Steve’s existence, his being founded was kept under wrap and key. The only few people who had known about it were her, Phillips, and Howard. And of course, by now a recently rescued James Barnes and the Howling Commandos. As soon as Steve was stable enough, they sent him straight back to work, and given his contract with the SSR, they figured him pretty much property of the government.
It sickened Peggy to her core.
She was used to hiding her relationship and being professional in other’s eyes, but keeping Steve at arm’s length so he could be the government puppet in a whole new meaning was not what she wanted for her beloved.
“Peggy?”
“Hm?” The woman blinked, aware Steve had been on the other end, breathing noisily against the cold climate he was in to stay warm. “I apologize, darling, I was lost in my mind. As I was saying, I think our earlier appointment of meeting up to compare notes will be scheduled earlier.”
Underneath it, she was by all legal terms, still his liaison. Not only that, but she had been tasked with collecting information from both the Commandos, and that included at least monthly meetings with Steve. They might’ve been professional where they could share longing looks behind professional’s backs, but at least it was something to look forward to.
Steve knew everything going on with Howard and the SSR and her recent suspicions that there was a mole within their sights. Not just that, but Peggy was suspecting her phone lines had been bugged due to her involvement and friendship with Howard.
“Is it now?” Steve asked, turning his head to give a strained cough. It tugged on her heart. That didn’t sound too good. “Should I tell the boys?”
“Please do. I’ll wire in the details you’ll need. Anything you boys need on your end?”
“Dugan would kiss you if you brought him his usual stash. Pinky needs more fuses if you could snag a few. Oh, Bucky needs another set of binoculars and some more gloves.”
Despite he wasn’t here, she was nodding. Her hand worked without watching what she wrote on the paper. Steve knew of her suspicion of being bugged and had agreed code talking would keep the guys on edge and keep their conversations safe.
“I’ll see what I can do, no promises, darling. Please get some rest. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Peggy sighed as she got off of the phone, looking down at the pad of paper on her bedside table. Someone has been trailing us, be on the lookout and keep your weapon on hand.
And Dugan? Dugan just wanted his alcohol.
--
“Peggy, Dugan forgot the password again.”
Knowing that voice anywhere, she smiled despite her reserve as the familiar faces of the boys she had called family appeared out of the bushes. If she was concerned about a missing familiar face, then it didn’t show. Instead, Peggy found herself suddenly staring at the gray sky above them. The ground was cold and hard beneath her, but the body colliding with hers to knock her off of her feet was not.
There was a split second of silence before the Howling Commandos erupted into a field of laughter much to the rest of the stoic men’s confusion. Well, not so stoic now that the shock had runoff. Including the face tinted pink above her.
“Hello to you too, James,” Peggy laughed, Bucky slowly getting off of her chest and smiling in that boyish way that made her both jealous and loving.
“I didn’t believe ‘im when he said it, but I’m glad to be wrong.” Bucky was still as Brooklyn Boy as ever despite not having been home in months. He climbed to his feet and pulled her to hers, brushing the snow off of them. He pulled her into a proper hug, finding the Howling Commandos hugging her.
“You served with Captain America.”
Her heart clenched at the awe in their tone, looking at Jack who looked at her still with disbelief, as if she had lied this entire time about her connection to the Howlies. She shared a look with Bucky who looked as if he’d swallowed a lemon, standing near her left side. Dugan looked down at her too and he nodded in her direction.
“Not as long as she has. You good, Carter? Ready?”
Jack’s mouth opened, perhaps to dismiss Dugan treating her of all people like she’s the leader of this mismatched band of guys, but it was well ignored when they started to march through the snow. She watched as Jack hesitated as if debating on not following them before he scrambled not to be left behind.
“Pegs, you’re with me. Barnes, you too because I won’t have you pouting again.”
Peggy laughed, despite herself as she pulled herself up into the jeeps with Bucky’s arm thrown around her waist to help assist her. Bucky, for all his childish needs, stuck his tongue out at Dugan before the vehicle rumbled to life and they started to roll out. The quiet didn’t stretch on long, just enough for the loud engine to cover up any whisper talking.
“How is everything?” Bucky asked, his silver eyes wide with worry. “Steve has told us...everything that he could.”
“Same as ever,” Peggy sighed, shaking her head slightly. She glanced back to watch Pinky distract the SSR boys with a quick history chat. Good. “Howard’s still in deep shit and every step forward feels like one back. How’s Steve?”
Bucky frowned because they both knew that’s not what he was asking. “Exhausted. He never knows when to admit defeat. He was denied again to be stateside. He was told again his presence is needed out here.” The man rolled his eyes with a huff. “He’s one more bad night away from going AWOL, not that any of us blame him, poor guy is doing the job for all of us, plus whatever shit ya’ll send him to do.”
His tone told Peggy that he didn’t blame her, he was as frustrated as she was. “Hopefully it doesn’t come to that. I’m sure some sense will be knocked into him sooner or later.” Her mouth opened to ask a question but a look from the jeep across from them caused her to close it.
Jack was watching her and closely.
--
“Carter!”
Peggy heaved a heavy sigh as she repositioned her grip on the logs for their fire tonight. They were well enough hidden in the trees to ensure that no one should see the smoke with the light dusting of snow and gray skies around them. Stopping their conversation, she gave Jones a friendly smile and passed the logs off to him. She didn’t miss the annoyed look Jones shot Jack as he marched their way.
She wanted to snicker at how he was forced to walk, almost waddling like a toddler in this new environment. A comment was on her tongue, but to play fair, she bit it back and raised her chin. “Yes, Jack?”
“I don’t remember Dooley giving you command of our mission. You may disrespect his orders in the office but you will not disrespect me here.” He towered over her, a twitch in his jaw telling her that he’s been thinking about this far too long. She wanted to laugh, honestly because it almost sounded like he was jealous of her and her involvement with the Howling Commandos.
“He didn’t,” she replied in an equally cool tongue, shrugging her shoulders. “If you’ve been paying attention, Agent Thompson, I’ve been pulling my equal weight around here just as everyone else has.”
“Your involvement is this is only because of your pestering Dooley and your connection with the Commandos. Remember your place, Carter. You spent far too much time under Cap-”
A gloved hand clasping Peggy’s shoulder and making her knees buckle caused Jack to turn almost white as the environment around him. Despite knowing the situation, she had almost hoped the gloved hand belonged to Steve, but given how tightly it gripped her shoulder and the freehand that pulling on the strap of the rifle, she knew it was Bucky.
His lips were pressed into a thin line, eyes boring into Jack’s. He stood a little taller due to the boots, but it was enough for him to use his height over the agent.
“I’m sorry, what was that?” Bucky mused, raising an eyebrow. “Peggy spent too much time where? Pegs, you wanna head back to camp, Pinky and Morita have a trick they wanna show you.”
Jack huffed, giving a roll of his eyes as Bucky’s arm pulled her closer to his chest. “Nothing, Sergeant. Carter and I were having a private conversation that you butted in.”
“If it’s nothing, then you won’t mind if I pull her away to help start the fire. You know us Howlies, too busy spending time worshipping the ground Steve walks on to know any survival skills. Only way we survived was cause of her.” He dug into his pocket and tossed Jack a small flashlight, nodding his head. “Go find us some more firewood, will you? It’s gonna be a long one.”
The look in Jack’s eyes told her that this conversation wasn’t over yet and honestly Peggy was looking forward to that.
“You know he’s going to think that you’re only protecting me because of Steve,” she sighed, shrugging his arm off as they walked back towards the distant camp. “Thank you, Bucky, but I can handle myself against Agent Thompson. It’s not the first time he’s been a right ass to me.”
“I know,” he grumbled, satisfyingly stomping on a branch to break it in half. “Steve has told us some things. He almost seems jealous of your connection to us - like you spend a whole war keeping our asses alive and you wouldn’t want to befriend us. Jackass. I think he’s waiting for us or you to slip up. They still think Steve’s a frozen capcicle?”
Snorting, Peggy gently smacked the sniper’s chest. “Yes but don’t let him hear you say that. Where is he?” She was used to being professional, keeping Steve at arm’s length in company but the fact he wasn’t around for her to assess with her eyes made her wary. If something had happened, they would’ve said something by now, especially Big Brother Barnes.
Bucky’s tongue clicked on the roof of his mouth, shrugging his shoulders. “He’s close by. He wanted to keep an eye tag tailing us, be sure we’re not being followed.”
That did sound like Steve, alright. He wanted to defend all of them, keep an eye on the stragglers, and be sure no one was planning an attack. Peggy got the feeling he kept distance because neither of them was sure this charade of professionalism could be kept up if he was here. Then there were the SSR boys and their belief Steve was dead.
--
“So how are you here?” Li asks, breaking the soft chatter that had been happening around the fire.
Peggy swallowed the rest of the bourbon down, passing the canister back to Dugan. She didn’t need to see who Li was directing the question to, she could feel Bucky tensing up beside her. He’d been a little tense since Jack stomped back into camp, dumping the mood uncermonsely and sitting far back away from them.
“Yeah, Buck, how are you here?” Juniper snickered, nudging his friend with his elbow. “You kinda just showed up one day.”
“And you adopted me like the straggly, little pup that I am,” Bucky huffed, rolling his eyes. “Thanks for the scrap, Carter.”
He nudged her slightly but behind the bright silver eyes and the need to make jokes and defuse the situation, he saw the curiosity in Li’s eyes.
“It’s just...we all read the reports. You died. You fell off the train,” Li pressed, not reading the situation. “So, how are you here?”
Sharing a look with Peggy, Bucky shrugged again. He opened his mouth but Dugan spoke up before any of them could. He knew of Bucky’s time in HYDRA, they all did, they had pulled him out of HYDRA, but he didn’t need to relive the past because of some curious agent who couldn’t tell his left from his right. Certainly not one who didn’t bother to spend two seconds respecting Peggy.
“We found him,” Dugan grunted. “What those files didn’t tell you was Phillip’s, Captain Rogers’, and Agent Carter’s insistence on finding Barnes’ body. No one can survive a fall like that, but God above decided Barnes was too annoying to let die. And the fact he still owes me ten bucks.”
They all laughed because it wasn’t far from the truth. She watched Bucky sigh in relief and Dugan clasping his arm in solitude as he passed by them to dig through the bags.
“He only fell because Captain Rogers couldn’t hold on. Bet that guy rather polish his shield and shiny belt buckle -”
“You want to say something?!” Bucky snapped, the almost relaxed atmosphere had turned tense as he turned to glare at Thompson who had been sulking on the edge of the camp. “If you got something to say about Captain Rogers, then say it.”
“James,” Peggy breathed, squeezing his arm. “Let Jack be if he wishes to express his dislike of Captain Rogers, that is on him. Not for you to fight everyone who sees’s fit to voice their negative opinion.”
Not that she didn’t want to sock Jack in the jaw for that comment. Bucky’s death had torn through Steve, it ripped out any part of him that remained human, that clung to humanity. He was a changed man from that day on. He was reckless, rash, and only survived because she interveined and made him see that he was human, serum, or not.
Bucky grunted as he sat back on the log and shoved his half-eaten bowl of stew at Peggy’s feet. “Eat. I ain’t hungry. I’m gonna go take a piss and set up for the first watch.”
There was no point in arguing. Jack had sullied what had almost promised to be a relaxing night [as relaxing as they could get in this environment]. She laid out her bedroll after being sure the surrounding area was clear. She almost hoped she could see Steve. Almost.
“If Barnes is alive, any chance of Rogers being alive?” She heard Rameriz whisper to Li as her head laid on the pillow.
“A crash like that? There’s no tellin’. Barnes was extremely lucky but I dunno...fall from that height? You’ve seen the tracks…”
Their voices faded as Peggy listened to the sound of footsteps near her. She opened her eyes to see Bucky above her, thanking him as he laid an extra blanket over her before silently nodding and dawning his rifle. She would argue with him over him getting rest later, right now, she was exhausted and selfishly wanted to sleep.
--
In the morning, a fresh wave of snow had covered any tracks that surrounded the camp. It blanketed around them and put out their fire in the middle of the night. Despite the fresh snow, Peggy could see faint outlines of thick boots that stood near her bedroll and as she sat up, waking up before anyone else in the dark forest, she felt something heavier fall off of her than just the extra blanket.
A thick jacket that was too big for Bucky and even Dugan.
Steve had been by.
Unfortunately, the new jacket didn’t bypass anyone, not even a blurry-eyed Thompson.
“Whose coat is that?” He grumbled to her as they packed their bags for the mission ahead. “I didn’t see anyone wearin’ that last night.”
“It’s mine,” Jones grunted, passing Peggy to take the extra layer from her shoulders with a small nod from her. “Does it matter, Agent?”
“No,” the man grunted, a frown still on his lips. She knew what he was thinking - she was far too comfortable with the Commandos. When they got back to the office, this would bite her in the ass, she was sure of it, not that it stops her. “Just curious, is all. Not like Carter to wear a man’s coat. Thought it might’ve been her sweetheart.”
Peggy made a face, throwing her bag harder than necessary over Thompson’s shoulder and towards the pile they made for the jeeps. “The only sweetheart I have is my gun, Agent. Now if you’re done worrying about my lack of love life, we need to get moving if we want to use the snow to cover our tracks.”
“Don’t blame me, you’re the topic of gossip when it comes to office blabber,” he snickered, raising his hands in mock defeat even when Peggy rolled her eyes.
“If you must know,” Montgomery spoke up as Peggy stalked away to join Dugan and Bucky pouring over a map. “She’s all our sweethearts. Try having that for Valentine’s Day.” His wink didn’t go unnoticed nor did Peggy slapping his hand away and arguing with Bucky over an advantage point.
Jack huffed out in annoyance. This was his lead and Commandos or not, he was taking back control.
--
Peggy could feel the tension building up in her jaw, resisting the urge to rub at it. She could feel it twitching out of tension from clenching her jaw so tightly her teeth might snap in half. It was the only way she could distract herself from not wanting to yell at Jack who ‘stepped up to the captain’s plate’ and started to give orders.
Any argument had been instantly shut down with the argument that he was in charge, reminding Peggy of an older kid in charge of his little siblings. Any argument was useless when Jack was determined that he was right and they were wasting precious time.
“Barnes, keep a distance with that gun. Carter, you’re in the rear. Keep a lookout.”
The order made her roll her eyes at the back of Jack’s head. No matter how much he tried to take control of the situation, to put on his best I’m in charge voice, he was no Steve and had very little regard for people’s safety. Just the end task ahead of getting them in and out with the Doctor in tow.
It was a bad idea, but fine, if he wanted to stick her in the back to keep out of his hair, then she’d easily take this opportunity to keep away from him. Dugan and Jack lead them and despite Bucky was somewhere in the trees pretending to be a spider monkey, Jones fell into step beside her. Despite his larger size than her, he was quiet. He was the more reserved out of all of them.
“You could stay,” he mused softly, nodding his head to Dugan’s bowler cap. “We could always do with you back in our lead. Especially that one. God knows Steve misses you, Pegs. You’re much better off here than with these jackasses.”
A small smile twitched on Peggy’s pale lips, adjusting her hold on the gun. “I know, Gabe, thank you. I do miss you guys. It’s not against you or even Steve, I am needed back on stateside. Maybe I’ll consider the offer another time.”
He laughed, the laugh rumbling in his chest like promised thunder. “Perhaps that is best, hm? Steve needs to rest anyhow and if you were with us, he’d be far too worried about you, no matter how much he denies it.”
Peggy’s reply was lost to the sound of something falling in the forest. Something heavy. James. “Bucky!”
There’s no way Bucky could miss these branches, they practically made a sturdy bridge. He had sure enough footing but the sound of a bullet whizzing past her was enough to tell her he’d been shot at. “Gabe, disperse the others. Spread out. They’re-” She looked up when another flew past her, seeing movement in the trees. “They’re spread out. Treetops. Below. Take cover. I’m going after James.”
There was no point in arguing with her, the Commandos knew that well. She slid in the snow to avoid the flying bullets, using the shelter of the thick trunks to get to where the figure laid. He was breathing, grunting in that manner that told her he was in pain but he was alive.
“James,” she breathed, dropping to her knees. “Hey, hey, look at me. Can you walk? We need to get out of here.”
The man’s eyes were glazed over, most likely a concussion but he was no stranger to those. He nodded his head and moved to sit up, moving his left arm to grab at the gun. They both watched as it just twitched, the arm not responding to his movements. In the limited light of the rising sun, she saw the nasty break in his arm and his green complexion.
“If you vomit on me, James, I will be very cross with you. I’m going to splint this best I can with what we have, then we need to move. You can curse me out on the way, deal?”
She’d take that grunting as a yes.
Using the strap from both her gun and Bucky’s, cut with a knife, she placed his broken arm between two sturdy pieces of branches. It wouldn’t do for a permanent fix but it was better than nothing. Bucky did his best not to curse or shout in pain, hearing him whimper and gag. By the time she was done, he looked like he was about to vomit up their cold breakfast. Throwing his good arm over her shoulder, she steadied his weight to lead them into the denser forest.
“Carter! Where the hell have you been?!”
Jack almost seemed worried, but Peggy didn’t have time to consider it, dropping Bucky down on an overturned log. She was sweaty and pissed, worried. The bullets had stopped coming. That never stopped unless ordered to. They’d been found. This was going to make it all the more difficult.
“Getting Barnes before we let him die from your carelessness. His arm is broken. Dugan, any casualties?” She breathed a sigh of relief when the man shook his head. “Good. They’re still out there. How long have they been quiet?”
Jack’s jaw gritted as he looked down at his watch. “Three, four minutes now. Why?”
“I’m going to handle them before they expose us any more. We’ll be lucky if we’re not met with retaliation at the door.” Snatching her gun back, Peggy stood up, taking Bucky’s and laying it in his lap. “You’re still a decent shot even without your arm.”
She got maybe two yards away, returning to the trail before Jack ran up to her.
Jack’s hand snatched her rifle from her, his temple throbbing now. “You will not! That’s exposing yourself and us to danger, letting them know we’re holed up here. We don’t even know where we are, we ran off the trail because of them. We need to spread back out, find the trail. We’re sitting ducks.”
“All the more reason for me to go into the trees, Agent.”
Peggy tried to snatch her gun back, a bullet striking the trunk next to her head. Her breath lingered in the air for a split second, jerking her head back out of shock. She pushed Jack out of the way when she heard the next one, preparing to feel another bullet tear through her body. Her eyes closed, body tensed, but no pain came.
Her eyes opened when she heard the gasps, seeing a familiar figure dressed in a dark blue suit and holding up the end of a shield. He towered over her, using his larger body to shield her from the spray of bullets.
“Everyone out!” Steve snapped, waving his hand. “Agent Thompson, get your ass off of the ground and help Pinky with those explosives. One stray bullet and we don’t have to worry about who’s in charge. Dugan, Jones, get Bucky and get him on his feet. Dugan, give him a splash of your liquid courage. Buck, three, six, and nine o’clock, are the worst of our fire. I’ve taken most of what I could out. Morita, Montgomery, and Juniper, you get these SSR boys further in the woods. Thanks to your little leadership, Agent Thompson we will now have to wait for nightfall and pray we’re not found.”
If anyone had any questions about his skills, to what Steve wanted, no one questioned it. Everyone instantly charged into action.
Steve’s arm wrapped around Peggy’s waist, holding her close for a fraction of a second too long as he set her back on her feet. “You were hit,” he murmured, baby blue eyes that she’s forgotten how soft they were looking down at her shoulder. “Grazed.” He touched the wound and she flinched, having been unaware a bullet had been that close to her torso. “I’m fine, Steve. I can handle it once we can breathe.” She paused, watching Dugan pick Bucky up and raise the rifle in his direction before firing. They made a good team, odd, but good.
“We need to get going too, can’t be on Thompson’s bad side, now can I?” Steve mused, raising his brow in a way that told Peggy he didn’t care regardless. “I got my bike. We can lead them on a wild goose chase while they escape. You ready?”
“I thought you’d never ask.”
--
“He’s alive?”
The words were spat at her when she’d later arrived at their makeshift camp miles and miles into the dense forest. Peggy calmly dismounted from the bike with Steve’s help even if she didn’t need it. She wanted the excuse to feel his hand in hers while she ignored Jack’s bulging look.
“Thank you, Captain Rogers, for the assistance and ride,” Peggy hummed giving Steve a polite nod and a firm smile. She turned back to Jack while he started to unpack the bike, rolling her eyes. “Unless we are suffering from the same hallucination, then I will dare say that yes, he is alive. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’d like to get this wound looked at.”
At least the man had enough sense to let her brush by him, still standing and looking after her and Steve in shock.
Steve was ever the gentleman as he rolled Peggy’s sleeve down, enough for her to pull her arm out of the sleeve. It was cold in their little spot in the dense woods, not wanting to risk lighting a fire. Bucky was already asleep despite the rough ground beneath them, his head in Pinky’s lap. His arm was set in a better-made splint, but still rough for their situation.
“This is going to burn,” Steve murmured, pouring a little alcohol on her wound. She hissed in pain and ignored the looks she and Steven were getting. This was strictly professional despite how she was straining to not jump his bones right then and there. “I warned you.”
“Seconds before pouring,” she huffed. “Though, I suppose a little pain is needed to be kept in my senses.”
If Steve had anything to say, it was lost to Jack coming back into camp and sitting beside Li. He rubbed his hands together, blowing hot air between them. “It’s going to be a cold one,” he grunted. “We’ll need to watch in shifts, two per shift, we-”
“We’ve already planned that,” Dugan grunted, his mustache ruffled as he tossed his bowler hat on their bags. Or what was left of them. “Pinky and Li are taking the first shift while we all rest. Yes, that includes you, Steve.” He pointed his thick finger threateningly at Steve’s chest who just pouted at him. “You need to sleep. Pegs, tell him.”
“Yeah, Carter,” Ramirez snickered, “tell him.”
Rolling her sleeve back up and adjusting the gauze, she thanked Steve in a small voice. “Captain Rogers isn’t a child. He doesn’t need to be told what to do but if you’d like my advice, Captain, sleep while you can.” Her eyes told him the rest before I make you.
She wanted to comment on his appearance, the rugged stubble from his lack of shaving, the longer hair that was starting to sweep off of his forehead. His eyes looked almost hallow, black bags underneath causing the blue to stand out. He looked like complete shit, a hallow version of himself and it ached at Peggy’s heart.
“This stays between us,” Steve grunted to the SSR boys while their bedrolls were rolled out. “No one else needs to know I’m alive.”
“Did you rescue him?” Li asked, in awe, if not astonished whisper as he turned to look at Peggy. “Why didn’t you say anything?!”
“That’s above your pay grade,” she snapped back, watching Steve kneel by Bucky’s passed out form and tenderly hold his face in hands that seemed almost far too big. She wanted to say more, the more pity part of her that wanted to dig her elbow into the man’s chest and tell him she shouldn’t have to be involved with his hero to have some decent respect.
“Hm,” Jack grunted from where he slouched against an overturned log, “I can see who was on top in this relationship.”
--
It was clear Jack wore a chip on his shoulder. He had some resentment out for Steve and maybe that’s because he favored her, despite how he tried not to show it. He turned to look at Peggy for advice, not Jack who was once again trying to say he was in charge. He asked Peggy about the situation or would ask Dugan or Li, literally anyone but Jack unless he had to.
This little petty game kept up for two days where they traveled under the cover of night.
Steve had kept his distance as they planned, but they couldn’t help it when the Howlies left just enough room in their camps to sit side by side or when it was Peggy’s turn to take a watch, Steve would find himself awake even if it wasn’t his turn to watch with her. Or his bedroll would be close to hers. They’d find small ways to touch one another and even that got under Jack’s skin.
Due to Bucky being out of commission thanks to the broken arm, it was left up to Peggy. No one objected but Jack’s temple throbbed as Peggy easily took the rifle and lined herself up with a perfect shot of their guard. She silently laid on a few sharp and frozen rocks that were set above them, stomach pressed to the ground and breathing slowly.
One snide comment from Li or Jack had gotten to her, but not her aim. The bullet flew from the rifle and the man guarding the roof fell into a heap. Steve’s hand closed around hers as she was guided off of the icy rocks, the snow crunching underneath her feet.
“Nice!” Bucky breathed, shrugging the left shoulder. “Though, you still twitch your foot when you’re about to pull the trigger.”
“I’ll show you where I twitch my foot if you start that,” Peggy snapped, much to Bucky’s grinning face. “Satisfied?”
The last words were said to Jack, his nose wrinkled just ever so slightly as if to say let’s see.
“Everyone has their plan then?” Steve grunted, looking down at the map. “Three teams. Li, Jones, Montgomery, and Bucky to the west end. Double-check the boiler rooms, any nooks, and cranny. Juniper, Peggy, Pinky, Morita, and Ramirez to the east. Spread out. The rooms look to be larger and some have hidden doorways. Jack, Dugan, and I will take the top floors. We’ll meet in the middle in an hour. Jones, Peggy, and I have our radios, use it only if in trouble.”
“Yeah, Dugan, only if in trouble,” Morita laughed, elbowing the broad man. “Not when we think we’re hearing screaming.”
At Li’s confusing look, Dugan rolled his eyes. His cheeks flushed a soft pink. “It was a frog that I heard. Cap, can we go?”
Peggy caught Steve’s eyes as he rolled up the map. There was no bother hiding the fact that he did this on purpose, separating them to just get alone time with Jack. She raised an eyebrow at him and he sheepishly shrugged his shoulders.
“Steve, let’s go,” Bucky grunted, smacking Steve on the side with the splint and regretting it with a whimper.
Pinky’s arm threw around Peggy’s shoulder as their groups dispersed, leaning far too much into her frame. Not that she minded. Pinky always had a lingering smell of gunpowder on his fingers. “How much you wanna bet he’s gonna make Jack’s death look like an accident?”
“If Steve isn’t rash? He won’t. But then again...I’m afraid he’s never made a not-so-rashed decision in his life.”
--
Watching the love of your life fall to the floor in front of you seconds after he’s sacrificed himself yet another time to save you changes a person. There’s no radio this time. No radio, no signal blocking them, no interference, no cut-off, and left wondering. She’s staring down at Steve, her heart in her throat. It all happened in a split second, but the second he hits the floor, she’s in action.
A hand is tearing off the bottom of her uniform, pressing it over the bleeding wound where the bullet has embedded itself into Steve’s thigh
He groans at the contact and grits his teeth. “Is this revenge from the alcohol?”
“You wish,” Peggy grunts, keeping her eyes focused on the bleeding wound. She steadied her breathing despite the anxiety welling up inside of her. She wanted a second chance at keeping Steve safe and god damnit, she was going to take it.
The forces of God would not take Steve from her. She’d be damned if they did.
“Dugan,” she snapped into the radio. “We need to extract. Now.”
Her head snapped up at the sound of thundering steps, snatching Steve’s discarded shield to block his body, still pressing on the wound with all her might. She’d never thought she’d be so relieved to see Jack’s pale face. The man looked sick.
“You-you-shit.” His eyes nearly bulged out of his head at the sight of the bloodied rags in Peggy’s hand. “Carter, you’re hurt.”
“No,” she huffed. “But Steve is.”
“Fuck.” As if that was somehow worst and yeah, she had to agree it was, even if Steve wasn’t agreeing with it. He was still gritting his teeth and trying to sit up, trying to catch his breath.
“Come here, alright? I need you to put pressure on his wounds.” The guy was in shock and any amount of distraction to keep his hands busy was better than him standing in shock.
With Jack putting pressure on Steve’s wound and the Captain finally stopping his fight, Peggy got back on the radio. She was starting to become frantic, watching Steve’s face pale and Jack was starting to fluster. “Dum-Dum if you don’t answer me right this instant - Steve is hurt. We need extra-”
Her answer came in typical Howling Commando fashion - an explosion on the far wall. The ground shook beneath her, the ceiling threatened to cave in right in that instance. Everyone was piled into the back of the jeep, a crowd of people rushing forward to help her get Steve up to his good foot and rush him back towards the jeep.
“Get Jack,” she snapped at Pinky. “Make sure he doesn’t hurt himself. He’s in shock - have Montgomery give him those tabs.”
Getting a groaning Steve laid out on the floor of the jeep, Peggy laid Steve’s head in her lap. She didn’t give a damn who saw. She was tired, grungey, sick to her stomach with worry for the shivering Captain.
The fact he wasn’t speaking, arguing with her told her the amount of pain he was in.
Bucky and Jones were already on the wound, Steve’s face pinching as his pants were ripped open.
“Steve,” Peggy whispered, stroking her hand through her hair with a soft smile. “Look at me.” Her hand cupped his jawline, the pad of her thumb stroking a scar he’d earned from a shaving incident a few years ago. His blue eyes fell on hers, gritting his teeth and holding her hand when Jones started to dig the bullet out.
“This is r-revenge for...for something,” he grunted, gripping the floor of the jeep tightly. “Fuck, you coulda just talked to me, Pegs.”
Peggy chuckled, only to keep herself from crying. Stress. The strain on them. She was thankful when the jeep emptied once they’d reached their pickup point. An abandoned airport where a plane waited for them.
“Sometimes it’s easier to let others talk for me.” She bent her head down, pressing a soft kiss to Steve’s lips. His felt so cold against hers.
Hearing a clearing of a throat, she looked beyond the pair at Steve’s feet, to Jack. He was still pale and shaken, but there was life back to his eyes that hadn’t been there before. “I didn’t see anything,” he mumbled. “I was just warning you that wheels up in ten.” He hesitated around the jeep, frowning before he was gone.
“Want me to go hunt him down?” Bucky grunted, pulling back from Steve’s bloodied thigh with alcohol in hand. “For sport?”
A fond smile tugged on Peggy’s lips. There was that Big Brother Barnes quality. “As much as that would solve many of my problems, darling, I can handle myself. Jones, you heard the man, what’s the verdict on Steve’s leg?”
Gabe’s small smile tugged on his lips as he pulled back, wrapping the gauze tighter around the wound. “You’re...rather lucky, Steve. There’s no permanent damage, but given your exhaustion and our lack of supplies, you will be slow to heal. You should head back stateside to get some proper R&R, have the wound properly treated. We did what we could, but no promises.” He clicked his tongue, his fingers pointing to Bucky’s chest. “And you are going with him. You got a broken arm.”
Bucky’s full lips pulled into a pout but underneath it, Peggy could see him vibrating. “What a shame that I broke my arm from a jackass’s decision.”
“Are you sure you guys can afford to lose them?” Peggy asked, gently laying Steve back down as she climbed out of the back. “We can send extra men to make up for them.”
“If you staid we wouldn’t need to worry about it,” Dugan mused, tapping on the side of the jeep. “But you’re needed elsewhere to keep those jerks in line. And make sure this one doesn’t try to run a marathon through Brooklyn on that leg.”
“Not much of a runner,” Steve grunted, letting himself be pulled up. He set his weight on his good leg, letting Jones and Dugan pull him to his feet.
As Steve was being put onto the plane, Peggy heaved a soft sigh as she turned back to Dugan. The hug from him was everything she missed - the bear hug that reminded her some things were worth savoring. Pulling away, he patted her cheek and grinned under that thick mustache.
“You keep our boys in line, won’t you? We can’t lose ‘em again,” he grumbled, shrugging his shoulders slightly. “And keep yourself safe. We’ll get to the bottom of this. We’re just one call away, Pegs.”
“Of course I will,” she mused. “Someone needs to. And thank you, Dugan. You’re a life savior. Literally. I’ll miss you.”
Sitting back between Steve and Bucky, Peggy could feel like she could breathe for the first time in a while. Steve was going to be okay. He might need longer rest than others, but he’d be okay. Dugan was wiring the information to Phillips as they spoke. Her head rested against the wall, feeling Steve’s hand tighten in hers in his light slumber. Against her shoulder, Bucky was snoring.
“Marge.” Her name made her eyes open to see Jack in front of her. Her body tensed, coiled, and posed, ready to fight because her boys were in her lap and exhausted, hurt. What more could he want?
“Yes, Agent Thompson? I was hoping we could get some shut-eye before we touched land.”
“I won’t keep you long. You’re...busy.” His eyes fell to Steve, watching the man’s face twitch in her lap. “I wanted to thank you for...assisting me back there. Any other person would’ve left me to my own devices, especially after the decisions I’ve made. You didn’t, you were the bigger person and I’m...thankful.”
Well, that’s the last thing Peggy expected to hear from Jack’s lips. An apology and him expressing how thankful he was for her? Well, that was rare. “It wouldn’t be fair for you to die because you were in shock. I’m glad you’re okay.”
His head bobbed, Steve grunting making him flinch slightly. He still wasn’t 100% okay. “I’ll leave you to it. What I saw...I won’t tell anyone.”
“Good,” Peggy huffed, letting her head rest on the wall and close her eyes. “Because I’d hate to have to kill you because you decided to be stupid.”

Once you reach the bridge you come face to face with Phil, before you get a chance to say anything he pulls you into a tight hug.
"I'm so sorry Phil." It's no secret that he's been a father figure for a while now, one of your biggest fears is that you'll disappoint him. Leaving him behind without a word was difficult to do.
"You don’t ever have to apologize, you did what you thought was best for you. You're back now and that's all that matters."
Once he let's go things just seem to fall into place as if you never left.
"So I heard you fangirled and made an absolute fool of yourself in front of Steve Rogers." You laughed when you noticed his face go red.
"I did not make a fool of myself." He tried to argue.
"Oh, Steve, I'm such a huge fan, you know I watched you sleep. I helped design your new suit. I hope you like it, I love you." You mocked his voice in an exaggerated tone.
He playfully shoved you. "I really missed you kid."
"I missed you too." You look up when you hear someone clear their throat.
"Agent Carter." Nick is giving you an unreadable look. "It's good to have you back."
You nod and give him a quick smile. "It's good to be back sir." Once he walked away you let out a breath you didn't know you were holding and waited for the rest of the team to make their way inside.
You noticed how amazed Steve and Bruce were of everything around them. To your side Natasha opened a file on Clint, you walked behind her and put your hand on her shoulder trying to assure her you'll find him. She stands up and gives you a quick but warm smile before showing Bruce to the lab.
You and Darcy watch Phil nearly make a fool of himself while he asks Steve to sign his near mint condition trading cards. Something you knew he was always proud to show off. They're interrupted when Jasper Sitwell gives them the location of the man you're looking for.
"Captain, Carter." Fury looks towards the both of you. "You're up."
You both quickly nod and go off to change into your stealth suit. Once you're dressed you roll your shoulders trying to adjust to the feeling.
Darcy walks up behind you with your sword in her hands. "I made sure no one put their hands on it since you left."
You take the sword and unsheathe it. "Oh how I've missed you." You put it back and quickly attach it to the back of your suit.
Darcy gives you a hesitant look. "Are you ready?"
You let out a breath. "Ready as I'll ever be." You both make your way to the quinjet to meet up with Natasha and Steve and head off to Stuttgart, Germany.
Tumblr media
On the quinjet you stand near Natasha and Darcy in the hopes that you don't make an absolute fool of yourself in front of Steve.
"Go over there." Darcy mumbles towards you.
"Darcy, shut up." You mumble back before looking behind you making sure he didn't hear you.
Natasha quietly laughs and rolls her eyes. "We're 5 minutes out prepare to land."
You walk towards the back of the quinjet and stand next to Steve. "Hi." You mumble awkwardly.
"Hi." He looks down as he talks trying to avoid your gaze. "So. How long have you worked for S.H.I.E.L.D?"
"Um, about 9 years. I started off in a lab and worked my way up."
"That's good." He started flexing his hands. "So-."
He was about to ask you something when he was interrupted by Natasha. "Alright, we're here."
He opened up the ramp and looked towards you. "See you down there." And immediately jumped after.
Before you could second guess yourself you followed his lead and jumped. When you land you see Loki knock Steve to the side. You quickly unsheathe your sword and swing towards Loki, he deflects your sword with his staff. Like second nature you continue to swing your sword and deflect his attack. All you hear is the clang from your sword hitting his staff. Before you can dodge it you feel his staff hit your back and knock you down. You hear Steve stand up and begin to fight Loki again. After a few good hits he's knocked down once again.
As you're about to get back up you see someone you hoped you'd never have to see again. "You've got to be kidding me." You sheathe your sword just as Loki raises his hands to surrender. You walk towards the quinjet hoping to ignore the thorn in your side that is Tony Stark.
Tumblr media
You stand towards the front with Darcy and Natasha as they fly the jet back to the helicarrier. "I swear, if either of you knew about this-" Your hand starts to grip the back of their chairs.
"We didn't." Darcy looks up at you. "I know we didn't tell you about Steve but trust us, we would never keep this a secret."
You start to calm down, you look up once you see flashes of lightning and roars of thunder. "Where did this come from?" There's a crash on top of the quinjet and you all look up.
Stark opens the ramp. Seconds after, you see a blond muscular man with a hammer enter before quickly grabbing Loki and jumping out. Immediately after you see Stark walk to the edge of the ramp and fly out of the quinjet, Steve grabs a parachute and prepares to jump as you quickly follow suit.
"I'd sit this one out guys." Natasha speaks up as she continues to pilot the quinjet.
Before you get a chance to respond you see Steve jump out of the quinjet head first, you follow his lead and jump out seconds later.
You both land in a forest, up ahead you see Stark and the man from earlier in the middle of a fight. Steve throws his shield and it ricochets off both their chests. "Hey!" He calls out to them. "That's enough! I don't know what you plan on doing here-." He continues before being interpreted by the blond man.
"I've come here to put an end to Loki's schemes." He speaks up in a commanding tone.
You hesitantly take a step forward. "Then prove it, put the hammer down."
"Uh, yeah! No! Bad call, he loves his hammer."
You glare at Stark and roll your eyes. He always had to make a joke of everything.
The man swings his hammer back and knocks Stark behind him. "You want me to put the hammer down?" He leaps up and swings his hammer preparing to strike.
You feel Steve pull you behind him as he raises his shield above your heads. When the two connect there is a loud boom and a flash of light. The four of you are thrown backwards.
You slowly start to get up and look at the destruction around you. "Are we done?"
Tumblr media
You've all returned to the bridge of the helicarrier. The blond man who you've learned is Thor is telling you about Loki's plan with the tesseract. A chitauri army invading earth, you all continue to discuss it when Phil and Stark enter the room.
As always, Stark acts like the know-it-all he is, and tries to take charge. He starts messing with the screens in front of him when you notice him place a small disk under the desk. You look around but no one else seemed to have noticed what he did.
You look towards Steve when he speaks up. "Does Loki need a particular type of power source?"
"He'd have to heat the cube to a hundred and twenty million kelvin just to break through the coulomb barrier."
"Finally someone who speaks English." Tony walks up to Bruce. "It's good to meet you doctor banner, your work on anti-electronic collision is unparalleled. And I'm a huge fan of the way you lose control and turn into an enormous huge rage monster."
You scoff and look towards tony. "Is everything a joke to you."
He gives you a puzzled look. "Excuse me?"
You walk towards him until you're face to face. "Everything is always a joke, you can never take anything seriously can you Stark?"
"Tell me something, how do you think your parents would feel if they knew you turned yourself into a science experiment?" He knew what he was doing, what buttons to push to make you crack.
"Don't you dare talk about my parents, you lost that right 16 years ago." You grabbed him by the collar and slammed him against the wall. "I became the person I am today despite you and I know my parents are proud of me. You even try to talk about them again and I won't hesitate to break every single bone in your body."
Nick walked into the bridge. "Carter! Take a walk."
You dropped him and walked out of the room with Darcy following.
"Come on. You can't let him get to you." She grabbed you by the shoulder and turned you around.
You ran your fingers through your hair in frustration. "I know, but it's just- as soon as I see him, all the hurt just comes flooding back."
"Close your eyes and breathe. We just gotta get through this." She pulls you into a hug.
Phil is walking towards you with a look of concern. "Hey, are you alright now?”
"I think so. Phil, be honest with me, did you know he was going to be here?" When you noticed that he was avoiding eye contact you knew.
He let out a deep breath before looking you in the eyes. "Yes, Fury sent me to drop off the information on what was going on and all of you.
You did your best to keep the tears at bay. Phil was the one person you should have been able to trust not to keep anything from you. "How could you, you knew exactly what him being here would do to me and you couldn't even give me a heads up."You shook your head and walked away.
He was about to follow before Darcy stopped him. "Don’t, just give her time."
You walked around and tried to give yourself time to cool off. If you couldn't trust Phil to be honest with you, who could you trust? You were so deep in thought you didn't notice you were about to bump into Stark. You glared at him before he cleared his throat and tried to walk around you. Before he could you grabbed him by the arm and slammed him against the wall.
"What's with all the slamming?" He tried to push you away before you pushed him back.
"I saw what you did, you attached something to the computer. I don't know what kind of game you're playing but it needs to stop. You and I both know I don't trust you so you better watch your back because the second you slip up, I'll be there." Before he could speak up again you let him go and walked off.
You hear Natasha speak through your earpiece. "Loki means to unleash the Hulk. Keep Banner in the lab, I'm on my way. Send Thor as well."
You immediately rush towards the lab, you see Nick and walk in behind him. "What are you doing Mr. Stark? You're supposed to be locating the tesseract."
"We are." Bruce speaks up. "the model’s locked and we’re sweeping for the signature now. When we get a hit, we’ll have the location within half a mile."
"And you’ll get your cube back, no muss, no fuss. What is Phase Two?" Tony questions Nick.
"Phase two? Nick what is he talking about?" You look towards him waiting for him to respond.
Before he does, Steve walks in and slams a large hydra gun on the table. "Phase Two is S.H.I.E.L.D using the Cube to make weapons."
You look at the gun in disgust and shake your head as you back away from Nick. "What is this? Why is S.H.I.E.L.D making weapons of mass destruction? This isn't right, this isn't what my grandmother wanted."
"Last year earth had a visitor from another planet who had a grudge match that leveled a small town. We learned that not only are we not alone, but we are hopelessly hilariously, out-gunned. They're not the only threat either. The world’s filling up with people who can’t be matched, they can’t be controlled. They forced our hand! So we had to come up with some-"
Before Nick was able to finish his explanation he was interrupted by Tony.
"Nuclear deterrent! ’Cause that always calms everything right down.
You looked towards him, anger written all over your face. "Very hypocritical, coming from you."
"Remind me again how you made your fortune, Stark?"
"I’m sure if he still made weapons, Stark would be neck deep-"
"Wait-Wait! Hold on! How is this now about me?"
You scoffed. "Isn’t everything?"
Everyone continued to talk over each other. Arguing back and forth. It's suddenly interrupted when the monitor makes a noise, signaling the Tesseract has been located.
Bruce walks over to it when he seems to see something on the monitor. "Oh my god."
There's suddenly an explosion and you're all thrown across the room. You, Steve and Tony scramble to your feet and run out of the lab to try and find the source of the explosion.
You talk into your earpiece. "Hill we need an update."
"Engine three is down. The line looks mostly intact but it’s impossible to get out there to make repairs while we’re in the air. Somebody’s gotta get outside and patch that engine."
You nod towards Stark before responding. "We're on it." You look at the two men in front of you. "You two go ahead, I'll secure Loki."
You run in the other direction, dodging people in your way. You didn't notice the man around the corner, as you run your head is slammed with the butt of a gun knocking you down. When you look up you see a man aiming his gun at you about to shoot, before he does you quickly grab the pistol strapped to your hip and shoot him between the eyes. You get up and round the corner continuing to your destination. Further down the hall you hear two more men about to round the corner. Before they do you jump up and swing on a hanging pipe kicking one of the men down and against a wall before jumping down and throwing a roundhouse kick to the other. You shoot them both and continue running.
You're about to reach Loki's cell when you hear an explosion. You rush in and see Phil on the floor, blood on his chest. You drop your gun, run to him and drop to the ground. "No no no no no come on Phil stay with me, you're gonna be fine I just gotta get you some help." You reach for your earpiece but he grabs your hand and stops you.
"It's going to be okay kid, I promise." His eyes started to water and his breathing was getting shallower by the second.
"Don't do this to me Phil, I've lost so many people I can't lose you too. You know I need you, I won't be able to do this without you." The tears were coming and they weren't stopping.
"You're not going to lose me, I'll always be right here." He put a finger to your chest right above your heart.
You grab on tight to his hand and put your forehead against his. "I love you, please don't leave me Dad."
You didn't notice the smile on his face when he heard that. "I love you too, I promise it'll be okay."
You looked up when you didn't hear him anymore. "No, No!" You reach for your earpiece. "I need help.” Your voice started to crack. “Please, I need help in here!" You don't know how much time passed but you felt a pair of hands pulling you up but you refused to let go. "No I can't, I can't leave him." When they finally got you up, you saw it was Darcy holding you back. You broke down and she was there to hold you. You continued to cry, you heard Nick behind you notifying everyone about what happened.
"Agent Coulson is down."

I JUST FINISHED AGENT CARTER SEASON 1
SO IM GONNA TALK ABOUT IT
Going in I had very little expectations for it tbh
I heard about how that did inhumans so I was pretty nervous, because I love Peggy (and Steve) so I hoped they wouldn’t do her dirty
But
They did EVRYTHING RIGHT
THEY DID PEGGY GOOD!!!!!
My dad loves the 40s, and I’ve been cramming Marvel down his throat for, like, forever, and I had never seen it and he seemed interested so we watched an episode or two when he was home
Peggy and Howard’s relationship???? GOLDEN
We know Howard is a playboy who sleeps around, and Peggy is (kind of) okay with it, and he only makes a joke once or twice that they both know is in good fun
I’m thrilled that they had such a good male/female friendship especially during that time period without forcing anything (because we know her heart was recovering from Steve 😞)
On the OTHER hand... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Daniel and Peggy ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
They had such a nice building relationship!!!
Coworkers turn friends turn allies turned.. possible love interest?
Nothing was ever said or done, but I feel potential there and I’m excited to see where it goes!
If anything they’re good friends and I’m down for it
Also Enemies to friend with Peggy and jack
AND PEGGY AND JARVIS’s RELATIONSHIPPP
AND JARVIS IN GENERAL
THATS WHERE TONY GOT THE NAME?????
DAMMNNNNN
When Howard settles down, he probably sent Jarvis to watch tony because he wasn’t the best dad
But back to peg and jarv
A chaotic agent and a flustered butler
What more could you want?
Overall it had a great mystery element and we were left of a cliffhanger, and we start season 2 tonight
Also I wonder in Zola is leviathan??? Because the hypnosis dude was in the cell with him and they were speaking cryptically (tho hypno guy [whose name I never bothered to learn] had a muzzle on)
ALSO
BITCH????
THE RUSSIAN GAL GOT AWAY??
ThE FUCK???
I NEED ANSWERS DAMMIT
AhEm
Anyway

hi i'm always here to talk about agent carter! favourite episode, favourite headcanon, and favourite recurring character?
i’m so glad i bullied you into watching it you have no idea XD
favorite episode is hands-down “snafu.” i mean, the interrogation scene alone puts it immediately at number one, but also PEAK peggy & jarvis content. “mr. jarvis, how would you feel if we smashed that mirror with this table?” “i would feel splendid about it.” “have you ever been HANGED, mr. jarvis?” “no, i can’t say that i have.” im love them. and daniel dottie fight scene! and team carter really starting to work as a team! and from a storytelling standpoint i adore how literally all of the action up until the end takes place in two buildings that are across the street from each other. and talking about the end... man the last 10-15 minutes of “snafu” really fucked me up. gah best episode
favorite headcanon: oh god i have so many that i adore. a personal favorite right now is that phillips is behind the scenes receiving all the case reports from team carter’s antics (the stark case, the isodyne case, etc) and just flipping his shit because goddamn it carter can we have one (1) normal year?!
(another fave right now is that jack starts affectionately calling peggy “sousa” and daniel “carter.” this leads to a lot of confusion among the junior agents)
favorite recurring character: DOTTIE. my murder wife i love her so much
send me what’s your favorite... asks!!!

Masterlist
You adjusted your dress slightly as you watched the party from you perch atop a high barstool. Who would have thought that experimental arms dealers liked 40’s themed parties? Apparently other arms dealers by the looks of it. “This place is a real whos who of people you don’t want to fuck with, isn’t it?” You stated more than asked as you stirred your drink with a mixing straw.
“Yeah, unless you’re us.” Clint’s voice said through the communication device in your ear.
You chuckled, taking a sip of your drink. “Unless you’re us. How is setting up that distraction going?” You peeked down the hall where two guards stood watch over the entrance to another corridor. “Macho Man and Biceps Mcgee don’t look apt to let me through.”
“Patience Y/N/N, patience.” You rolled your eyes as he continued. “The Blues Brothers should be off your back in a few minutes.”
“Stop calling me that. I didn’t need to help you with this mission, remember?” You said, leaning against the bar. This was not how you intended to spend your day off. “Why did I agree to this again?”
“Because I’m your best friend and you love me?” He offered as the lights flickered. You looked down the hall again to see the two guards moving to investigate. Bingo.
“Oh, right.” You said as you slid off the stool. “You wouldn’t stop begging me until I caved.” Head held high, you walked into the hallway as if you owned the place. “You owe me an introduction to Captain America when this is done.”
“You know, I wouldn’t need to introduce the two of you if you just joined the avengers.” He said as you turned down the now unguarded corridor. “The door you’re looking for should be on your left.”
“I don’t like the limelight.” You defended, “Remember the entire reason why you’re asking me to do this is because you can’t walk into a room without being recognized anymore. Not after what happened in New York.”
“Yeah, yeah. You would think people would have forgotten by now.” Clint grumbled making you stifle a laugh. Forget the people that saved New York from giant space whales? As if. You tried the door Clint had directed you to and found it locked. You sighed. “Probably should have expected that.” You pulled a bobby pin out of your hair and started to pick the lock. “So what exactly am I looking for here? Just some files?”
“That’s what Hill said.” He confirmed. “Probably something on the tech they are trying to sell, you know, arms dealery stuff.” The lock clicked and the door swung open. You quickly slipped inside, closing the door behind you.
Wasting no time, you immediately started pilfering the desk in front of you, looking for anything that might be of note. “This guy’s desk is a fucking mess. Do you have any clue what I’m looking for specifically?”
“Uhhh,” Clint replied, making you groan.
“You didn’t think to ask for specifics?” Jesus Christ, half of these documents are in german, do you even kn-” Your eyes went wide as you looked up. You didn’t know how you managed to miss the giant, bell-shaped, hunk of metal with a fucking swastika in the middle of it when you entered the room, but you did. Especially since, now that you noticed it, the thing seemed to produce a low, unnatural hum. “Uh, Clint?”
“What is it? Did you find something? You gotta hurry up the guards are on their way back.” Clint urged as you approached the Nazi bell.
“Are you sure Maria only said anything about files?” The bell seemed to grow more agitated as you stepped closer, vibrating strongly enough that its edges seemed to blur. “What the hell is this thing?” As you reached out, the door crashed open. You whipped around to see the two guards from earlier, their guns aimed directly at you. Thinking fast, you dove towards the desk as the guns fired. The bullets hit the bell with a thundering clang, causing the bell to go deathly silent before emitting a dull blue glow. The glow quickly intensified into a blinding blue-white light until a shock wave of energy exploded from the bell with a deafening gong.
You were thrown against the back wall with such force you saw stars. Groaning, you stumbled to your feet as alarms started blaring. Swearing to yourself, you blindly grabbed a handful of loose papers, and ran out of the room, jumping over the two, now unconscious, guards in the process. Glancing both ways down the hall, you swore again as you saw a swarm of guards running down the way you came. Papers in hand, you sprinted down the corridor away from the guards.
“Clint? I could use a little back up right about now!” You hollered but got no response. “Clint!” you said again, raising a hand to your ear. Your heart dropped when you felt no communicator. “Son of a bitch.” Hooking a right down another hallway, you stumbled as the building shook, another loud gong ripping from the bell now rooms away. Damn, that thing was loud. The walls began to crack from the force of the shockwaves. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that bell was going to bring the entire building down.
You looked over your shoulder, the guards were nowhere to be seen. God only knew if they were going to come back or if they had decided to save themselves. With the noises the building was making, you honestly couldn’t blame them if they chose the second option. The red glint of an exit sign caught your eye as you turned down yet another hall. “Thank god.” You gasped, forcing yourself to run just a little faster. You lunged at the exit as a third gong tore through the building.
You fell out of the emergency exit gasping for breath as the sound of sirens screeched overhead. You froze as you took in your surroundings. Why was it so dark? Pulling your phone out of your bra, you checked the time. 5:36 pm glowed up at you brightly. You shook your head, that was impossible. It was far far too dark. You looked back at the building you escaped from, only to find it completely restored to its original state. Except, you noticed, there was no door for you to exit out of. “What the fuck is going on here?”
The sirens continued as you turned on your phone’s flashlight. No signal, you noticed, great. You walked out of the alley and down the street, not a single light was on anywhere, not even streetlights. Did that bell have something to do with this? You looked down at the papers you managed to grab as the sound of planes roared overhead. ‘Die Glocke’ was all you were able to read before being unceremoniously dragged into the shop next to you.
“What the bloody hell do you think you’re doing? Walking around with a torch in the middle of an air raid? Are you mad?” The woman scolded, your phone in her hand. your jaw dropped as the woman fumbled with your phone: Peggy Carter. The Peggy Carter. The same one whose picture you passed every day walking into the shield offices. That Peggy Carter was now standing in front of you, trying to figure out how a cell phone worked. “How do you turn this bloody thing-”
An explosion rocked the street, shattering the glass of the shop they were in. Both women dove to the floor on instinct. You took the phone from Peggy and turned off the light. You popped your head up and peeked through the broken window. The building you had just escaped from was now reduced to a pile of rubble. Holy shit, you realized, That bell has sent you back in time. You had no chance to rationalize this information when you heard the signature sound of a gun being cocked. You turned to see Peggy pointing a pistol at your head.
“Who are you, what are you doing here, and what is that?” Peggy gestured to your phone. Oh god, how does someone even begin to explain time travel via nazi bell?
You took a deep breath. “Do you want the answer that makes me look like a nutcase? Or the quickly cobbled together lie you probably won’t believe?”
“I want the truth” Peggy answered firmly, making you feel very much like a scolded child.
“My name is Y/N L/N. I am here because of an accident.” You said slowly, trying to give yourself time to plan out how to explain time travel. “I, well, I was sent back in time by a giant Nazi bell.” You glanced at the crumpled papers still in your hand. “Here!” You shoved the papers towards Peggy. “Die Glocke, the bell! Maybe this can help explain it.” Peggy eyed you warily before taking the papers. Peggy squinted at them, reading slowly with the lack of light. Slowly, she lowered her gun, instead, focusing on the documents.
Peggy sighed, “You’re right. Your story does make you sound like a nutter, but these documents…” her voice trailed off as another bomb rocked the street. “It isn’t safe up here.” She said simply, grabbing you by the arm and pulling you towards the back of the building. “How did you get into this situation Y/N?”
You stumbled, trying to keep up with Peggy, as she dragged you through the shop. “I’m an agent of shield.” You paused for a moment, should you really be saying this? “An organization you help form after the war.”
“At this point, the war doesn’t feel like it will ever be over.” Peggy sighed again, stopping in front of a blank wall. She stepped forward and pressed an unseen switch. The wall opened up to reveal a small elevator.
You stopped just short of following Peggy inside. “Are you sure this is a good idea during an air raid?”
“We don’t have time for this nonsense,” Peggy said, rolling her eyes and pulling you in by the collar just as the doors began to close. Peggy looked over the papers again in the dim light of the elevator. “You said you were an agent Y/N?”
“Yes.”
“And no doubt you want to get back to your time.”
“Well, yeah, that would be preferable.”
Peggy nodded. “Then I supposed, you would have no issue helping us find this bell HYDRA created.”
You looked at her, “Who is ‘us’ in this equation?”
“The Strategic Scientific Reserve. SSR for short. Have you heard of it Agent L/N?” The elevator rattled as more bombs exploded above.
You scoffed, “Heard of it? I was named after one of the agents. Yeah, I’ll be glad to help, especially if it gets me home.”
Peggy furrowed her brow, “What agent were you named after?”
“Agent Y/N M/N L/N? My family has been in shield since its inception, I grew up hearing all the stories about her.”
Peggy shook her head as the elevator stopped. “There is no Agent Y/N L/N. Unless you count yourself.” She said before stepping out into the hall.
You went wide-eyed as Peggy’s words sank in. “Oh my god. I was named after myself.”

I don't watch Agents of Shield but I did watch Agent Carter and I noticed you've reblogged gifs with Daniel Sousa?? Did they bring him into AoS and give him a love interest to make up for the fact that Endgame shoehorned Steve into he past with Peggy and ignored poor Daniel completely? I was so bummed at Endgame's Sousa erasure (among other things)
hey!
so technically all the timelines are whack and i dont really know whats going on but i think that was the initial idea. which is dumb, because despite the russo brother’s desperate plea in saying steve was the father of peggy’s kids, endgame canonically states that by changing the past you do not change the future. you simply create an alternative timeline. so steve is just chillin in his own au and did not erase the original timeline which has peggysous
now aos pulled ties with mcu and has been running their own show. they didn't want to address the snap, so they went back in time. consequently, they ran into daniel sousa and learned that in the ‘original timeline’, he died in the 50′s after exposing/trying to expose hydra. so they fake his death in the 50′s and take him on their time travel adventure. daniel dies in the og/mcu/agents of carter timeline, you may ask? no. because shield has already said aren't in the mcu timeline, they're just doing their own thing. also they made their own time travel rules and now they are also in an alternate reality that is not the og timeline the show started in.
does that make any sense? not really. BUT aos saw an opportunity to bring back my main man and he is ADORABLE. he’s all out of time and in awe with the 2000s and space ships and robots and the like. and he's being super cute with daisy, one of the main characters of shield. i personally always shipped daisy with someone else (now dead) and i ship daniel with peggy. but peggysous is alive and well in one timeline and in the aos timeline sousa is being the most STAND UP MAN and being really sweet to a girl who has had a lot of heartbreak. so im totally here for it.
(but also when we first see him, one of the shield agents is pretending to be peggy and he hears that peggy is in the next room and he stops to fix his hair. he also very much compares daisy to peggy and says that ‘some of his favorite people’ are people like daisy, i.e. peggy)
most important takeaway: steve rodgers did in no way shape or form erase or change peggysous, he is living in his own weird ass au bc his character arc was ~demolished~ and he is dead to me & agents of shield just borrowed daniel and are ALSO in an alternative timeline where daniel gets to be a time traveller and look really cute in his blue shirt.

Agent’s of SHIELD season 6 thoughts.
Spoilers under the cut.
Honestly, I’m not sure how I feel at the moment. It was a wild ride, that’s for sure! I guess I’ll start with what I didn’t like hugely
The pacing felt a little off? I dunno, maybe it was a bit of a rush at the end, we didn’t really get to finish Sarge’s storyline. Everything was speeding into the season 7 set up a little quickly? It felt forced and rushed, but I did enjoy it.
I’m not sure how I feel about LMD Coulson. Because... it’s not Coulson. And like... why bother killing him in the first place if they’re just going to bring him back again and again? I kinda feel like I would prefer it if he just stayed dead? I dunno, I’m just gonna spend the whole of the next season being sad because it looks like Coulson but it’s not.
Maybe nitpicking here, but that grenade Fitzsimmons were holding took a long time to go off? Idk if it’s just me being ignorant, but I swear grenades go off much faster than that!
And maybe another small thing, but still no infinity war tie in. I spent the whole season half expecting people to turn to dust at the end of the finale, but they neatly managed to avoid that.
Right, that’s basically all the bad stuff out of the way, let’s get into what I loved!
Sarge - honestly his whole storyline was great! I loved how he was created by the monoliths, I loved everyone coming to terms with him not being Coulson. the angst. That bit in one of the last two episodes where he made a joke and Daisy and May just looked at each other and I was like “COULSON.” That bit also reminded me of how freaking good Clark Gregg is at acting. Sarge and Coulson are so different.
The Ftizsimmons relationship was fantastic as always. Their episode with just the two of them was honestly one of my favourite in the whole season. And flippin’ heck they’re separated again. I do not know why I’m surprised - honestly, I’m not. I was expecting one of the two to have been dusted. And since he’s a Fitzsimmons, I’ll mention Deke here because I love him and he is amazing and his rant about how he didn’t fit in anywhere and no one liked him gave me emotions I love him.
Snowflake - I have to have special mention of her because I loved her and I loved her all the more because she’s a Kiwi! also im slightly ashamed that it took me a full like two episodes to realised her accent was New Zealand and not Australian I am not used to hearing my country’s accent in US tv Anyway, Snowflake is great and I’m kinda sad we didn’t see anymore of her beyond the party. And Jocko was honestly amazing - he’s a likeable guy.
Piper and Davis were amazing - I’m glad that they were both given bigger parts to play. And I’m still mad that Davis died. He survived so much - I think he’s been in it since season freaking one. And now he’s dead. And speaking of Piper and Davis, what happened to Piper and Flint after they left in the quinjet? Where’d they go? Is Flint still around?
AGENT FREAKING MELINDA MAY TAKING A SWORD TO THE CHEST AND THINKING NOTHING OF IT AND THEN KICKING IZEL’S ASS HECK YESS THAT IS MY QUEEN. And then Daisy having to watch her mother die after the whole thing with Sarge/losing Coulson
Now, once I realised that we were in the past, I was like ‘huh cool.’ Then, when Jemma mentioned an ‘expert in SHIELD history’ my first though was PEGGY CARTER. They’re in like the 40s now, right? Okay quick google search says that Empire State Building was finished in ‘31, so maybe sometime around then? But still... Time travel is involved. I really want to see Peggy and Jarvis. Now I need to go and actually watch Agent Carter.
ALSO I WANT TO KNOW WHAT WAS IN THE LETTER COULSON WROTE TO DAISY. I THOUGHT THAT WOULD BE IN THE FINALE AND MAKE ME CRY BUT IT DIDN’T. IS IT GOING TO BE IN THE FINAL FINAL EPISODE?? I WILL CRY IN THAT CASE
Alright. I think I’ve said way too much already, adn I really doubt anyone is going to read this, but I needed to write out some stuff. Twas an over all good season. My favourite episode would have to be episode 10 - the one where Izel takes over and Davis gets killed :( But the one with high Daisy and Jemma and the Fitzsimmons episode were also pretty good!
One more season to go. I need to watch Agent Carter and then do a binge watch of all 6 seasons before that!
IF LEOPOLD FITZ AND JEMMA SIMMONS DO NOT HAVE A HAPPY ENDING BY THE TIME THIS SHOW IS FINISHED I AM GOING TO RIOT.
Let them settle in Scotland and raise a whole lotta kids and Deke can be Uncle Deke even tho he’s actually their nephew.
