“Daddy?” Spencer turns around from the frying pan to look at his daughter. Against common belief, he is quite the cook. But this only started when he became a father, after he realized a child won’t be able to live off of a diet consisting of coffee and anxiety, just like he did at the time. “Yes, Sweetheart?”
She looks down to the piece of paper on the kitchen counter in front of her. “Why did Mommy leave us?”
The spatula falls to the ground. It’s a question the father did not expect on a Tuesday morning before school. “It’s because of me, isn’t it? She saw me the first time and didn’t want me anymore. It’s my fault Mommy left us, left you, just like Linda said.” Tears begin to stream down her face.
“No no no”, her father is quick to turn off the heat and walks around the island to hug his daughter. “None of this is your fault. I don’t know what this Linda said, but it is not true. Your mother had her own reasons to stay out of our lives, but it has nothing to do with you.”
This doesn’t calm her down. “What are her reasons? Why did she leave us? Why did leave me?” Frantically she tries to keep her sobs down in order to speak. Spencer never has seen her this upset.
“Sweetheart, are you sure you are in the right state to talk about it now? Why don’t we calm down and get something for breakfast on our way to school and talk about it after I pick you up this afternoon?” He suggests, hoping the thought of a cup of hot chocolate from their favorite bakery would help her.
(Y/N) looks up at him with bloodshot and glassy eyes. Snot runs down from her nose. Spencer is quick to get her a tissue and make her blow into it, cringing internally about all those germs. “Do you promise to tell me more after school?” Big eyes look up at him and the father hurts. It hurts him, because there are so many things in her future that will break her and all that because of her mother. He can’t shield her from all of it, as much as he wants to he isn’t able. Because there always will be people, people like this Linda, who will make the girl conscious of her absent mother.
“I promise”, he tells her and holds his little finger out for her. (Y/N) smiles while linking hers with his, knowing her father will keep this promise just like any other of his. “Good, and now pack up we got a bakery to visit!” Quickly the girl grabs the piece of paper in front of her only to shove it into her backpack.
A little later she sits at her desk and looks at her teacher expectantly, just like her fellow classmates. “Ok children, today we won’t work further on our addition and subtraction worksheets-” The teacher’s sentence is cut short by the eruption of cheerful shouts. Just (Y/N) looks at the multiplication sheet in front of her.
The teacher is quick to quiet the class again. “Instead we will continue our work on the mother’s card you started doing yesterday. Linda was so kind to tell me that you don’t have the chance to finish them at home, because your moms are there. That is why you do it here and your worksheets at home.”
With a frown on her face (Y/N) pulls out the blank piece of paper that made her feel bad ever since her teacher handed it out to her yesterday. While everybody around her chatters happily with other classmates, she just stares at the paper. It is a reminder of something she doesn’t have, something she lacks and will never get: A real mother. A hug from her mother. Not even the motherly reassurance one gets after a nightmare. Nothing.
“Hey orphan. Ya realizing your mom doesn’t love you and that’s why she left you?” Linda, someone (Y/N) later learns to call a Mean Girl, struts up to the younger one’s desk. A sigh leaves her lips before answering. “You do know for an orphan I need to have neither a mommy nor a daddy. And I do for a fact have a dad, a loving one actually.”
A more light than hard slap on the back of her head makes the girl’s body jolt. “I don’t care, but I know that your mom hates you enough just after looking at you to know she doesn’t want anything to do with you.” After that Linda goes back to her table, leaving (Y/N) feeling more miserable than before.
Some starring on the paper later her teacher passes her table. “Is there something you want to talk about, Sweetheart? You seem very sad.” That is an obvious fact. Finally the girl is able to lift her gaze. “Miss Ramirez, I don’t know what to do.” This is probably the first time ever she said this sentence in school.
“Mother’s day is in a few days, Sweetie, and this is why we all make these cards. It’s a thank you to your mom and a way to show her how much you love her. You love your mom, don’t you?” The shake of her head shocks the teacher. Immediately an alarming signal rings through her head, because this is a red flag. “Why? Did she do something?”
“Miss Ramirez, I don’t have a mommy. She- she left Daddy and me.” Tears fill (Y/N)’s eyes. Her teacher is quick to hug and sush her. “Oh Sweetie, this is not a bad thing. I’m sure your mom loves you very much, even if she is not there with you. Do you wanna go out for a bit to calm down?” Meanwhile she connects the obvious signs of a single dad in her mind. Missed parent teacher conferences, unnecessary hovering over the child and the tendency to be categorized as a helicopter parent. Yes, Dr. Reid ticks all of those boxes.
Its the second time of the day that an adult asked (Y/N) to calm down, and frankly it doesn’t really help with the situation at hand. “Can I do my homework outside? It’s too loud in here”, she asks between sniffles. Both of them know that the class’ volume is not the real reason for the request. “Of course, Sweetheart. If you need something, just come in and ask me. Alright?” (Y/N) nods and gets her multiplication sheet and a pencil before leaving the classroom.
At the end of the school day, Spencer is there to pick up his daughter. For days like these, where are no cases, Hotch gave him a free pass on (Y/N)’s very first day at school to leave the office earlier to be able to pick her up himself. As a father and someone who works the same high demanding job as him, he knows that little things like these are often the most important. And even if there were a case today, Spencer would have stayed back. He promised his daughter the truth and this is what he is going to tell her.
“Hey Dr. Reid. Do you have a moment?” Her teacher greets him at the classroom door. Concerned about his child’s wellbeing he nods and follows her back out of the room. “I gave the children the assignment of creating a card for their mothers, because mother’s day is rolling around. Today (Y/N) told me her mother left you, is that right?” This is the moment Spencer connects the dots. This is the kick off that made her question her mother’s motives about leaving all of the sudden.
The young doctor clears his throat. “Uhm yes, that is right. Actually, I’m going to talk to her about it right after school on her demand.” Miss Ramirez nods with an understanding nod. “Thank you for your honesty, Dr. Reid. I also want to warn you, in two days we will hold a celebration in honor of mother’s day with the kids’ mothers. You are invited as a father, because this is a special situation. But I also give (Y/N) a free pass for this event. It can be very traumatic for her.”
The dad thanks her, but his thoughts are somewhere else. He is mad. He is mad for his daughter, because she will always be the one with a “special situation”. The odd one, because yeah, it isn’t uncommon for fathers to leave (which isn’t anything less sad and traumatic), but an absent mother hits differently.
But Spencer is also hurt. Hurt, because for her young age, there is already the word “traumatic” thrown around. No, it isn’t enough that her dad works a job with the risk of him not coming home from a case again, or being the target of an enemy. No, she also has to go through the experience of missing a parent, never knowing how her life would be if it wasn’t for someone like her mother.
Even with Spencer trying to fill that role, there will be a time where (Y/N) will ask herself all of the “what ifs”. He can’t stop it from happening, and that is his biggest pain right there. Because he can’t shield her from her own thoughts. At the age of six she already is a bright, brilliant and talented mind. Now in a few years or maybe just months, she will start to think about her mother being the root of her pain, bad experiences and hurt. Her thoughts will lead to a downward spiral of how a person can do something like her mother, who acted like that with the knowledge of which consequences will follow. And Spencer can’t stop this from happening.
“Daddy!” A small thud comes from (Y/N) colliding with his leg. Just by the way she squeezes it he knows that she hasn’t had a good day at school. “Hey Baby. Do you want to go to the office for a bit? I think your Auntie Penelope told me something about a new science set she got for you. Or do you want to go straight home?” Spencer asks after lifting her into his arms. Immediately she hides her face into the crook of his neck. “Home”, she murmurs. Home it is then.
“Aaaaaand here comes the little missy’s hot chocolate!” The father says in a funny voice while carefully putting the cup into his daughter’s hands. She sits covered in a blanket on the sofa, looking expectantly at her father.
Spencer sighs at the lack of reaction. “Are you sure you want to hear it?” (Y/N) nods adamantly. “Ok, but I got to go a bit back for this story
“It was about eight years ago, I worked on a case with your Aunties and Uncles back then. I was the one who had to get the last round of coffee for the night at a small 24/7 diner. As I walked in I thought I died, because I was sure an angel stood right in front of me. Well not-” “Is that Mommy?!” (Y/N) cuts him off excitedly. Spencer smiles slightly. “You need to listen to the story!” The girl shifts in her seat. “Right, sorry.”
As I was saying: well in front, because she sat at the bar waiting for her order. I nervously ordered the coffees and had to begin three times, because I kept messing up, mesmerized by her sole atmosphere. As the waiter went to put the coffee pot on, the woman turned towards me and introduced herself. After that she asked me what I was doing late at night in a small town like that and we somehow forgot everything around us by just talking. After that we stayed in touch. Six months later we became a couple, she moved to DC in order for me to still be able to do my job here.
“Two years later your Mom got pregnant with you, and it was quite a surprise to us. But we felt ready at that time and so she moved in with me and we had you. The first few months were great, we couldn’t be happier. BUt then you continuously became ill. At first just a cold, then the pocks and so on. I think it was the third night in a row where you held us up all night. I took a year off from work to care for you with your Mom. I carried you through our apartment the whole night, giving you a bottle, singing, reading, doing anything.
“Then I saw her standing in the doorway. Even though there was baby vomit on her sweatpants and I had never seen her eye bags being this dark, she was the most beautiful woman to me. I approached her with a smile, but her frown only deepened. I thought it was because she worried about you and your health. Instead she told me she can’t do it. She can’t be a mother, that she wasn’t cut for this job.” Her exact words still resonate in Spencer’s ears to this day. He knows exactly what she said, word for word, and they never stopped to sting any less.
“So Mommy left us because I was too much trouble?” (Y/N)’s voice sounds even sadder than before. “No, it never was because of you. She knew exactly what it meant to have a child. Your mother knew what kind of work it takes and what the future brought. You have absolutely nothing to do with it. Some people are just not made to be parents and it’s better when they realize it themselves and leave the situation.”
(Y/N) nods, her mind running wild. All of that makes plenty of sense but at the same time not. “Sweetheart, that doesn’t change the fact that I love you and I will never leave you. You are my everything and I’m so happy to be a dad to such a wonderful little girl like you. I want you to remember that your Mom may not be here with us, but she still loves you. And I’m here for you, for anything you need, want or don’t want. Do you understand me?”
She nods again and curls up into her father’s lap. “Can we watch something?” She asks after a bit of silence, where both of them indulged their own thoughts. Quickly the TV turned on and some kids movie plays. The rest of the day the small family spends all the time cuddled on the couch, because at the moment they need to feel the other there with them.
The next two days Spencer calls (Y/N) in sick at school and himself at work, because together they fly to Vegas. Just because her own mother wasn’t ready for the job, doesn’t mean they can’t appreciate the work her grandmother did as a mother. That and you never know how much time you have left with the people who are dear to you.

“It is better to hope than despair.”
-Lailah Gifty Akita,
You finally knocked. After standing in front of that door for what felt like an eternity now, you finally knocked. Your legs felt like jelly, and your heart was pounding in your chest. You were feeling more anxious than the day of your wedding, and the irony of the situation made you almost laugh. Almost, but not quite. You were about to when Lisa opened the door.
She was as radiant as ever, a big, warm smile on her face. Honestly, it surprised you. You knew that she knew. Now that Chris was back, there was no way Lisa wouldn’t know what was going on. That man told everything to his mother.
Lisa let you in, and you followed her into the living room. The house felt like a second home to you. Actually, it felt more like home than your place with Chris sometimes. There was always something happening here. When you left your house, you almost came here. But you felt like it was unfair to Chris. Lisa was his mom, and her house was his safe place, not yours.
“Chris told me everything. How are you holding up honey, are you okay?” Lisa asked you
Her kindness broke your last defence. Her genuine, motherly concern about you made you feel guilty that you didn’t come to her sooner. Lisa had always been so kind to you, taking you in as her own daughter from the moment Chris introduced you as his girlfriend. Your lips started to shiver as you were trying your best to hold the tears back.
“Oh, honey… please don’t cry.”
She took you in her arms, and you broke into tears. It may have lasted five minutes or an hour; you weren’t sure. These days you were crying so much it was just the new normal.
Your best friend had been a great support to you, but she had to. She was your best friend. Chris’s mom was supposed to be on his side, defending her son’s best interest. Not yours.
“Why didn’t you tell me things were that bad, Y/N?” Lisa asked you
You looked away. Somehow ashamed that you thought Lisa would reject you.
“I … I don’t know. Chris is your son, and…”
“And you’re my daughter. Y/N, you’re family. We all love you!” Lisa said, taking your hands into hers. “Plus, I bet some even love you more than Chris,” Lisa joked.
You laughed, feeling a little bit more at ease now. “I’m sorry…” you whispered.
“Don’t be. I am sorry we didn’t see anything,” Lisa said
You shook your head. It wasn’t their fault. They weren’t responsible, Chris and you were. It was your marriage, after all.
Lisa asked for your version of the story, and you could tell she was trying to be as partial as possible. You hated that you had to put her in that situation. She cringed when you told her Chris didn’t notice you were gone until he went to Carly’s place.
“That boy…” she said, shaking her head. “I’m so sorry, honey,” she said, a sad expression on her face.
“It’s not your fault Lisa. Actually, it’s not even Chris’s fault. I can’t force him to stay married to me,” You said
“You think he feels… forced to be with you?”
You shrugged. “I mean… why else would he be as far away from me as he possibly could?”
Lisa watched you closely. You could tell she wanted to say something but was refraining herself.
“You two should talk. Maybe you could solve this…” Lisa said
“I don’t think us talking would do any good. We tried that yesterday; you should have seen how shi… messy it was”
Lisa tried to hide her smile when you stopped yourself from swearing. “If talking to each other doesn’t work, maybe you should try talking to someone else…” Lisa suggested
You frowned. You didn’t see how Chris and you talking to Lisa would help. Yes, Lisa was a wise woman, but as she said herself, she was your mother both. Knowing Chris, he would take it personally if his mother called his shit out about his marriage. You still remembered what happened the last time Lisa agreed with you instead of Chris. He was salty for days.
“I love you, Lisa, but I don’t think talking to you would fix this,” you gently said
Lisa laughed. “I wasn’t talking about me, honey. I meant a therapist.”
“A therapist? Like couples therapy, you want us to go to couples therapy?” you asked.
Lisa nodded. You never thought about that.
“I thought couples therapy was supposed to happen before couples decide they want a divorce.”
“Not necessarily. It could help you express your feelings in a safe place. And, you decided you wanted a divorce, honey. I don’t think Chris agrees with you.”
You frowned. If Lisa thought the warm smile would help you accept the subtle criticism easier, she was wrong. You were even worse than Chris when it came to being right.
You loved being right and hated being told that you could have done something wrong, especially in that very particular situation. You were right. You had to be right. It would kill you to realize you were wrong and left the man you loved for nothing.
“Do you think I went too far…” You said, the tears resurfacing
“Oh no,” Lisa immediately told you. “You did what was right for you, and that’s the most important. I can’t even imagine how you must have felt, alone in that big house.”
A huge weight lifted off your shoulders. Secretly you thought people didn’t understand you. You were married to Chris Evans, living what they thought should be a fairy tale.
Even though you and Chris were what people called a private couple, he would sometimes tell things about you or express his love for you when he was being interviewed. When those things happened, your friends would always send you messages, reminding you how lucky you were.
They didn’t know how far they were from the truth. Most of the time, you were alone in your bed when you were reading their messages. Alone and lonely.
People think they know things about your life, your marriage, but they don’t. They would have to walk in your shoes, feel what you daily felt to actually understand.
When you left Lisa’s house, she had convinced you. She made you realize that even though things between You and Chris were pretty bad, your relationship was worth saving, or at least you owed it to Chis and yourself to try. Even if therapy didn’t work, you still owed it to yourself and Chris to end things the most peacefully possible. Before being your husband, he was your friend. You needed at least that friendship to be saved.
Instead of going back to your best friend’s place, you went home. It wasn’t even a conscious decision. You started driving and found yourself taking the way home. Instead of turning back, you continued. You realized waiting wouldn’t help. You’d waited so much already, now was the time to act.
As you opened your front door, you felt submerged with that particular sent. You were home. Despite what you told Chris yesterday, this house was your home. You chose almost every piece of furniture.
Chris was more than happy to leave it to you; he didn’t understand why you needed so many pillows on the bed or a particular shade of beige for the dining chairs. Instead of explaining everything, you would just ask for his opinion when it was absolutely necessary. Plus, it was hard to decorate a house via FaceTime.
Thinking of it now, decorating this house helped you manage your loneliness for some time. You were proud of every single room, from your bedroom to the laundry room.
You found Chris and Dodger sleeping on the sofa. You weren’t surprised. The couch was probably Chris’ favorite spot in the whole house. You had your office, and he had this sofa.
You were tempted to lay next to them. They felt like home. But you didn’t want to wake Chris up. If there was one thing Chris was lacking, it was sleep. You also noticed the dark circles under his eyes yesterday, and the current situation was not helping his sleep deprivation.
When you noticed a few takeout boxes in the room, you knew exactly how to occupy yourself. Chris used to love your cooking. Your skills were definitely better than his, but as your husband liked to say, one cannot be good at everything. You smiled when you remembered how you would tease him about his horrible cooking skills, and he would remind you how messy you were.
Even now, after thirty minutes of cooking, the countertop looked more like a war zone than a kitchen island.
“It smells good.”
You jumped. You didn’t see Chris coming, and now you had tomato sauce all over your blouse.
“Chris! You scared me!” you said, looking at him.
He was leaning against the opposite wall, observing you. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.”
You looked at him with more attention. He looked less tired. You wanted to say something, but Dodger was all over you before you could open your mouth.
“Hey, baby. I missed you so much,” you said to your dog.
Dodger started to bark. The high pitch he usually reserved to Chris when he was coming back home after long periods of absence.
It broke your heart.
“He missed you,” Chris finally said
You didn’t know what to reply. You didn’t want to say something that would create a hostile environment for the rest of the evening.
“I need to change myself,” you said, showing your now stained blouse.
You were gone before Chris could even blink. Once in your bedroom, you found everything exactly as you left it. You rolled your eyes, mentally asking yourself how Chris could be so organized. And then you realized he wasn’t that organized. It wasn’t just the bedroom that was exactly as you left it. The walking closet and the bathroom were too.
Chris wasn’t sleeping in your room, and you wondered why.
When you went downstairs, you found him making the table.
“I thought I’d made myself useful,” Chris said when he saw you.
You smiled. That was the kind of evening you used to dream about. You and your husband casually sharing dinner together.
Chris was very attentive, serving you wine, asking you if you needed anything. You wished you could be so relaxed. You wished you weren’t about to drop a massive bomb on him.
“Why aren’t you sleeping in our bedroom?”
Your question surprised you both.
“I… I don’t know. It doesn’t seem… right.”
You looked at each other, your eyes saying more than a thousand words. Again, you were reminded how easy it would be to just give in, to just come back. But it would be a temporary relief, one you would only enjoy until he’d decide to leave again.
It took you the whole dinner, and filling the dishwasher, and watching the first part of a show to gather enough courage and tell Chris you two needed to see a therapist.
It happened before he was about to kiss you. You could feel it in his eyes, the way they became darker, and the way his body leaned closer to yours. You could feel your heart beating faster and the room suddenly feeling hotter than before.
You wanted to give in, you missed his touch, you missed his kisses. You missed sex with your husband. But you knew it would make things more difficult. Sex had never been a problem in your relationship. Actually, it made you forget about the problems. You couldn’t remember how many times you were on the verge of telling Chris you weren’t happy with the situation and totally forgot about it the minute his hands were on you.
“No,” you said, standing up.
You started walking around the room, trying to compose yourself. It was frustrating how all your perfect, well-prepared plans got ruined the second you were around Chris.
“Y/N,” Chris whispered.
“No, we are not having sex!” you half screamed.
You needed to convince not only Chris but yourself that you were not having sex tonight. But looking at him, looking at him, looking at you made things very hard, literally and figuratively speaking.
“We’re going to therapy,” you quickly said
Chris blinked. “I’m sorry, what?”
You cleared your throat. “I said, we are going to therapy.”
You could tell he was surprised. You didn’t know if it was good or bad.
“Y/N… I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
It was your turn to be surprised. You opened your mouth but closed it immediately after. You wanted Chris to explain himself before jumping to conclusions.
“With how public we are and…”
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” you said, anger quickly possessing your whole body.
“Y/N…”
“You’re worried about your reputation? Do you even want us to be together, Chris?” you asked him.
“I’m not worried about my reputation. I’m worried about… our privacy.”
“Chris, therapists have a duty of confidentiality,” You said, raising your voice.
“Well, you won’t believe how many people would break it given the right sum,” he screamed back.
You wanted to scream, anything that would release the frustration you were feeling inside.
“Do you even want to fix this?” you ask, as calmly as you were able to
Chris huffed. “I was begging you to come home with me yesterday. Of course, I want to fix this.”
You crossed your arms. “me coming home right now would not fix things; it would bring us back to this,” you said, throwing your hands up.
“And this is so bad, right?” Chris asked, bitterness in his voice.
“No, this is perfect. This is what I want permanently. It will kill me to come back to this if this is not forever.”
The room went silent. So many emotions went through Chris’s eyes, and you were trying to decode them all.
Chris finally drew a long breath. “I am not going to couples therapy.”
His words stung more than you could have imagined. They also unleashed the silent anger that was rising inside of you since the beginning of that conversation.
But instead of screaming and crying and pleading with Chris, you reached for your handbag. You were done trying to negotiate with him. You were done trying to spare his feelings.
You removed the divorce papers that had been sitting in your bag for days now. You threw them on the coffee table near Chris and waited for him to look at them.
You could see him become very pale, and if you weren’t that angry, you would be worried.
“Are they…” He started
“Yes. Divorce papers. We go to therapy, or you sign them. It’s your choice.”
Chris was startled. “You can’t be serious.”
“Oh, I’m more than serious. I have a pen if you want to sign now.”
You looked serene, but inside, your heart was dropping lower with every second Chris wasn’t doing anything. You knew you were forcing his hand, but he left you no other choice.
“So, what is it going to be, Chris?”
Chris took the divorce agreement into his hands, and you held your breath. Your heart started beating again when he tore them in half.
He gave you a deadly stare, but at this point, you didn’t care anymore. He could be angry, scream at you, even hate you, as long as it meant you were doing something to try to fix things, you could take it all.
“Text me when you find a therapist you can trust,” you said before taking your bag to leave.
If he thought you’d be the only one sweating for this, he couldn’t be more wrong. It takes two to tango. It was about damn time for Chris to act. Because you were sure that this time feeling sorry or even good sex wouldn’t fix things.

Merry Christmas | Fred x Reader
Prompt requested by @n3ssm0nique: Best friends were all that you and Fred were. Right? Or at least that’s what you thought. But will Christmas at the Burrow change things?
Warnings: literally absolute adorable fluff JFC, Fred being adorable, George being George
Word Count: 5.6k words
A/N: I AM SO PROUD OF THIS FIC IT IS SO FUCKING CUTE My first Fred fic, babeyyy!! Weasley Nation Rise! Just an FYI, we are wholeheartedly pretending that the Burrow didn’t get destroyed for this fic hehe.
Flashbacks told in italics.
Tumblr media
“Thank you for letting me stay with your family for the holiday, Mrs. Weasley,” you graciously tell the woman in the kitchen who hovers over a kettle, brewing you a cup of tea. You sit on a chair in the dining room, keeping quietly to yourself, hands folded in your lap. The sunlight streams in from the window, warming you up, the tip of your nose still chilly from your travels here. The Burrow was still quiet; it was early in the morning when you arrived, expecting everyone to be up, but you should have known better that only Molly Weasley would be up at this hour. Everyone wanted to catch up on their sleep while on holiday from school.
Mrs. Weasley turned around to offer you the warmest smile, “No need to thank me, dear. You are always welcome in our home. And please, call me Molly.” She pours you a cup of tea in a delicate piece of china that you knew she saved for when guests came in fear that if she used it in her regular rotation of dining wear her children were bound to break it. “Drink up, dear. You must be freezing. The wind is unforgiving this time of year,” she adds, wrapping a blanket around you making you smile at her motherly gesture.
This year you were spending the Christmas holiday with the Weasleys due to your parents work schedule. They were traveling abroad for work which made you upset that this would be the one year you haven’t spent the holidays together. But when you mentioned in passing that you would be spending the holidays alone this year in passing to George Weasley, he insisted that you would spend it with the Weasleys. You told him that the offer was kind, but you didn’t mind going to your aunt and uncle’s house to spend it with them and your cousins, but George said you would have more fun spending it with his family. Which you knew he was right, so you eventually gave in.
Spending Christmas with the Weasleys also meant more time with Fred which made your heart flutter. You had been best friends with the twins since year three, but you and Fred became especially close in your fourth year. Since then, you two were inseparable. But the more time you spent with Fred, you eventually grew romantic feelings for him. You feared that these new feelings towards Fred would ruin your friendship, so you had kept it all bottled up, knowing that it was best to just stay friends and nothing more.
As you sipped on your tea, still wrapped up in the blanket Moly gave you, you heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Molly hovered over the stove again, this time cooking up a large amount of breakfast foods for the many people who would be dining this morning. “Oh, (Y/N)!” Ginny says when she reaches the bottom of the stairs. “I didn’t know you were coming this early,” she skips over to you, giving you a large hug. You had always taken a liking to Ginny and how outspoken she was. You had to be if you were the only girl amongst the Weasley boys. “Fred! George! (Y/N) is here!” Ginny yells up the stairs. “Wait until they see you. They couldn’t shut up about how excited they were for you to get here. Especially Fred,” she tells you with a wink. Ginny knew about your little crush on Fred after she coerced you to tell her after she told you about her crush on Harry.
After the words fall out of Ginny’s mouth, you hear bumbling and crashing from up the stairs before wild running down the stairs. “Easy, boys!” Molly yells at them while flipping bacon over in the pan. “(Y/N) is not going anywhere! No need to rush,” she laughs at them before looking at you with a smile. Molly knew how much her boys loved you. She shook her head while laughing, continuing to cook up enough sunny side eggs to choke a horse.
George saw you first and a beaming smile came on his face. “There she is!” he yells as you laughed, scooping you up in the biggest hug, spinning you around. “I’m so glad you’re here!” he exclaims as you wildly giggle. He places you down gently before looking over at his mother, “Merlin’s beard, Mum, the poor girl is in a straitjacket the way you bundled her up.” George helps you get out of the blanket, wrapping it over your shoulders lightly. “Much better, right? Now you can give people a proper hug,” he teases, hugging you once more.
“Hey, save some for the rest of us,” a voice calls from behind George. You pull away from George and see Fred patiently waiting to give you a warm welcome. When your eyes meet, your heart instantly starts beating faster and a pink hue makes its way up to your cheeks, warming your face instantly. A small smile dances on your lips as Fred gives you a cheeky grin. “Hey, you,” he winks, making his way over to you.
Fred engulfs you in a hug, picking you up and spinning you around similar to George, holding onto you tightly. He puts you down as you beam, hands resting on his shoulders. “Hi, Fred,” you smile up at him, eyes locked on his, allowing yourself to relax under his touch. The joy on his face was evident, his eyes twinkling with happiness and his mouth drawn into a toothy smile.
The two of you just stood there for a moment before George clears his throat, making his presence still known. “Alright, enough of that you two,” he speaks, knowing very well that the two of you had unspoken feelings for the other. George liked using that as leverage against the two of you when he wanted something to go his way. And this holiday, he was going to make sure that the two of you were going to confess those feelings to each other. “We’re glad that you came for the holiday, (Y/N). It’s gonna be wicked time.”
You pull your gaze away from Fred, peeling your hands away from his shoulders, but Fred keeps an arm around your shoulder, pulling you into a side hug as you smile. This was fine for best friends, right? “I was just telling your mum thank you for having me. I’m excited that I can spend it with my best friends and their family,” you beam as Fred squeezes your shoulders.
“Breakfast!” Molly calls to the rest of the house. With that, you immediately hear footsteps run down the stairs that are unmistakably Ron’s.
Behind Ron follows Harry, the both of them with major bedhead, still in their pajamas. “When did (Y/N) get here?” Ron asks, raspy with morning voice, rubbing his eyes as he tries to get used to the sunlight.
You shake your head, “Good to see you too, Ronald.” He chuckles as you pull him into a big hug, Ron squeezing you tight. Ron was like your younger brother. He was always pushing your buttons, but in the most playful way possible. “Hey, Potter,” you rustle the other boy’s hair as he laughs, giving you a small hey.
Everyone gathered around the table, taking a seat and a plate, piling mixed breakfast foods onto it. The sounds of happy munching and forks hitting plates filled the air. Light chatter between siblings and friends ensued as you sat and took in the atmosphere. The Weasleys were always so happy and that’s why you loved the family so much. They always managed to make the best out of whatever situation was thrown at them. No matter how dark times got, they were able to find lightness and laughter. When you first became friends with the twins, you were in a really sad place, always very homesick. But when the twins came into your life, they brought so much joy and hope into your life. Now you can’t help but feel out of place when you are not with them.
Fred interrupts everyone’s conversations and speaks, “Since (Y/N) is the guest of the house, sorry Harry, you don’t count anymore,” Harry shrugs, “(Y/N) gets to pick what’s on the agenda for today.” Fred sends you a smile and a wink making you lightly chuckle.
“That seems like a big responsibility,” you say as everyone looks at you.
But before you can say anything else, Ginny grabs your hand and pulls you out of your chair. “I need (Y/N) first to help me with something,” she tells the group. The twins look at her suspiciously, knowing that the youngest sibling was up to something. “It’s girl things. You wouldn’t understand. Right, Mum?” Ginny looks at her mother for support as Molly gives her a thumbs up and wink. “Right then, come on (Y/N),” she drags you to the stairs.
“Ginny, I didn’t even finish breakfast,” you laugh at the girl who has an iron grip on your hand as she pulls up the winding stairs of the Burrow.
Ginny just looks at you quickly before saying, “Ron can finish your plate. Besides, if you think breakfast was a lot of food, just wait until lunch.” With that, you make it to Ginny’s bedroom as she slams the door behind her. The fourteen year old sits on her bed as you slowly take a seat next to her. “So, are you and Fred gonna get together now that you’re here?” she excitedly ask.
You sigh. You wish it were that simple. “I don’t know, Gin,” you softly smile at her. “Anything can happen, honestly.” Ginny rolls her eyes as you laugh. “Give me your brush. I’ll braid your hair,” you tell her. A bright smile finds it way to her face as she grabs her hairbrush from her desk, handing it to you, turning so her back is facing you. Carefully, you brush out her long ginger hair, pushing it away from her face as Ginny happily sighs. “I’ve always wanted a younger sister,” you tell Ginny honestly. You did feel like Ginny was your sister in an odd, yet comforting way. When you first started hanging out with the twins and Ginny arrived to Hogwarts, she kind of latched herself onto you. At first, you were a little shocked, knowing that Ginny wasn’t like this around most people. But for some reason, she trusted you and you with her. Ginny became your little sister very quickly, always coming to you for advice and guidance when it came to school, boys, and everything in between.
“I always wanted a sister,” Ginny retorts, making you chuckle. “Seriously. It can be so much sometimes with all these boys in the house and it’s just me and mum. It’s always nice when you or Hermione visits. It gives me someone to talk to rather than having to constantly hang out with those bloody idiots,” she rolls her eyes, making you laugh.
From outside the door, you hear a hey! The two of you look at the door as Ginny springs to her feet and opens the door to reveal a Harry and Ron eavesdropping on your conversation. “Get out of here, you stupid gits!” Ginny chases them down the hall as the boys laugh wildly. You laugh at the young girl’s antics before she returns into the bedroom. “Do you see what I have to deal with everyday? Drives me mad.”
Ginny returns to the bed, sitting back down as you start to braid her hair. “Poor you,” you tease. The two of you sit in a comfortable silence as you braid her long hair, the ginger hair now perfectly styled and swept back from her face. You pat her shoulders, letting her know she’s done as she takes a look in the mirror, smiling at the results. “Like it?”
“Love it,” she looks at you before coming back to sit next to you. “But anyway, I really do hope that you and Fred get together. You’re perfect for each other. And Merlin, he never shuts up about you. It would just make so much sense if you two were together.”
You knew Ginny was right. Fred and you were a match made. The two of you knew how to have a good laugh, but you balanced each other out. He was always there for you when you needed him most. Fred was everything you wanted. But you feared that he didn’t feel the same in contrast to what everyone told you. The fear of rejection from your best friend was a terrifying thought, so keeping things to yourself seemed like the best option. “We’ll see, Ginny. I’m hopeful,” you brush her cheek.
As you and Ginny sat in her bedroom, what you didn’t know was Fred and George were outside, leaned against the wall, eavesdropping on your conversation much more slyly than Harry and Ron. George bumps Fred in the shoulder with a smile as Fred blushes. This just made holiday much more interesting for everyone.
------
The week has gone nothing, but smoothly. Matches of quidditch in the backyard, playing chess, late night bonfires, and long chats all ensued throughout the week and it just made you sad that the holiday would be coming to a close in the upcoming days. You were having so much fun being around the Weasleys and staying in their home. It felt like home to you in a comforting, yet odd way. It felt like you belonged here. Molly treated you like a daughter and Arthur even forgot that you were going to leave at one point, thinking that you had moved in.
But in all of the fun, you and Fred hadn’t got a moment alone. You knew that George and Ginny both were anticipating when you two would finally make a move. Hell, everyone in the house was anticipating when you two would do something. But within the week the most intimate thing that happened was you waiting to use the bathroom and Fred getting startled that you were outside waiting, him still wet from the shower, towel tied around his waist. The two of you just stared at the both, bright red blushed on your cheeks. “I didn’t know you were waiting for the bathroom,” Fred had said. “You could have just come in. You know you’re always welcome too,” he said with a wink making you gulp. And with a wink he was gone, leaving you shocked and unable to speak.
Tonight was another bonfire, everyone in the backyard circled around the roaring crackling fire. The flames were the only things illuminating everyone’s faces. You looked around with a smile, enjoying the night. Ginny sat disgruntled and mad at Ron who sat in between her and Harry, Harry also a little pissed that Ron couldn’t take a hit that he would rather be snuggled up to Ginny rather than his best mate. You giggled at the sight, sipping on your hot chocolate as Ginny just glared at you. With her eyes, she gestured for you to git next to Fred would was just a seat over from you. George was too busy telling Ron a story about one of he and Fred’s many adventures when they first got to Hogwarts, Ron completely enthralled. Sit next to him, Ginny mouths to you.
Absolutely not, you mouth back, eyes darting to see if Fred was watching you. He just stared at the fire, legs kicked up resting on a log, his hands behind his head. I’m not gonna make the first move.
Ginny rolls her eyes. Just do it, she mouths before returning her attention to George and his story. You sigh, looking at your almost empty mug of cocoa. You look at Fred longingly, wanted to be cuddled up next to him under the blanket that rests on his lap. You imagined being able to rest your head on his shoulder, his strong arms wrapped around you, protecting you as you felt safer that ever. He’d kiss the top of your head before resting his head on yours, enjoying the way your body melted into his. As you get lost in your imagination, you realize that Fred has caught you staring at him. Your breath hitches in your throat and you blush, unable to look away from him.
Fred chuckles and smiles at you softly watching you as you are curled up in a ball on the chair just a few feet away from him. Your lips were perfectly pink and the tip of your nose a little red from the windchill in the air. The jumper you wore was pulled over your hands as you cradled the mug in your hands. You looked absolutely adorable as a small smile was on your lips. Fred sighed as you giggled a little at him. He just shook his head at you jokingly before dropping his left eye in a wink.
“I’m gonna go get more cocoa,” you announce to the group, but your eyes don’t leave Fred’s as if you were just directing the statement to him, as if you were telling him to follow you. You rise from your chair and make your way inside. There are small whispers being exchanged behind you that sound like words of encouragement as you smile to yourself before going inside. Shortly after, you hear footsteps follow you inside. As you go into the kitchen and pour yourself more cocoa, you turn your head to see Fred beside you. “Hey, tiger,” you tease him.
He laughs at your nickname for him, “Hey, gorgeous.” Your heart flutters, knowing that he’s been calling you that for years, but now when he says it, it has new meaning to you. “You alright?” he asks.
You nod, happily, turning to face him, ignoring the task you originally came in here for. “More than alright. The week has been lovely,” you tell him as the two of you walk aimlessly around the lower level of the Burrow. “I can’t thank you enough for letting me stay with you and your family for Christmas. It means the world to me,” you genuinely tell him.
Fred smiles, “Of course. There was no way George and I were gonna let you spend it alone or with some weird family members.” You play with the cuffs of your jumper nervously, a thousand thoughts dancing around in your head about where this conversation was going to go. The two of you come to a halt as Fred speaks, “You mean a lot to me, (Y/N).”
His confession makes your heart speed up. “You mean a lot to me, too, Fred,” you confess to him, looking deep into his eyes. “Truly.”
“I don’t think you quite understand how much you mean to me. You make me feel really happy, (Y/N),” Fred tells you, taking a step closer to him. The two of you were so close that you could hold a magazine between the two of you. You can feel his breath on your cheek as you look up at him, biting your lip gently. “I really don’t know what I would do if we had never met that day at Hogwarts,” he recalls making the two of you chuckle. You remember when you met in the common room, them mid prank on a poor first year student as you had joined in on the prank. From that moment on, Fred was infatuated with you, much to your surprise. “And now we’re on our last year at Hogwarts and I’m just scared that I won’t be able to see you as much as I’d like to.”
Impulsively, you take his hand in yours. “Don’t say that,” you shake your head. “I’ll see you all the time. I’ll make sure of it. I can’t imagine living life without you, Fred, honestly,” you tell him, speaking so raw and genuine from your heart. You wanted to kiss him so badly, comfort him that there was no way he was going to get rid of you. He had you and there was no way that either of you were letting go of the other. You were so deeply connected to other that the notion of losing each other was nauseating.
Fred smiles gently before looking upward, you following his line of sight. Above you dangles a small bunch of mistletoe. Your heart stops and then starts beating impossibly faster. The both of you look back at each other, a little smile dancing on both of your lips. This was a good excuse as ever to share a kiss, you could just blame it on the mistletoe. “Mistletoe,” Fred breathes out with a light laugh, you joining. “I hate breaking traditions,” he teases you as you laugh.
“I hate nothing more than breaking a tradition,” you tease back.
Fred looks at your lips and then back at your eyes, waiting for you to do something. Gently you nod as Fred leans in closer and closer. It was like this whole scene was in slow motion as you both lean in, waiting for your lips to collide gently. You couldn’t believe this was finally happening after years of waiting and longing. You were going to kiss Fred Weasley.
“Oh, sorry,” a voice interrupts you both as you jerk away from each other. “I didn’t know I was interrupting something,” you look over to see Ron awkwardly standing in the doorway before darting away back to the group outside as the group yells at him, Ron yelling back he didn’t know in defense.
Fred huffs, “What a bloody moron.”
The moment was gone. It was over. Your chances of getting that kiss from Fred was gone. You both knew it. The two of you looked at each other sadly as you sighed. You gave him a look that said I wanted you to kiss me. He gives you a sorry look as you just stand there for another moment. “Stupid Ron,” you break the silence, making Fred laugh.
He pulls you into his side, wrapping an arm around you. “Come on, the fire is still burning,” he tells you, walking outside. “I’m not letting you get away so easily, no matter how much of an idiot Ron is,” he whispers in your ear, making you blush. What a flirt.
As you return to the group, everyone stares at you two as you walk back together. “Nothing to see here,” Fred dismisses them all as Ginny groans loudly. Fred pulls you next to him on the loveseat that was outside, not wanting you away from him now that Ron disturbed your moment. “You really are a moron though, Ron.”
Ron furrows his brows and raises his arm in defense. “What’s going on?!” he says, completely confused. Was the boy really this clueless?
“Oh, you’re bloody joking,” George says, throwing a pillow at Ron, everyone joining in, hitting Ron with a pillow, everyone erupting with laughter as Ron tries to defend himself.
Although the moment was ruined between you and Fred, this moment was heartwarming as you all picked on Ron before returning to watching the fire burn out.
-----
Two days later, Christmas morning rolled around and Ginny jumped on top of you waking you up, excitedly. “Merry Christmas, you animal!” Ginny hugs you as you groan, slowly waking up. “Mum made pancakes and there’s presents downstairs! Come on, (Y/N)!” she pulls your hands up and out of bed.
“I’m coming, I’m coming,” you laugh.
Suddenly, every Weasley is up and down the stairs in seconds as everyone takes their usual seats around the table. Arthur proudly shows off his muggle radio and explains that muggles listen to Christmas music this time of year, him tuning it until pleasant music emits from the small box. Molly plates everyone a large stack of pancakes dosed in maple syrup. You watch as Ginny squeals in excitement, sitting herself down next to Harry as you watch with a smile.
“Merry Christmas,” George gives you a hug.
You smile at your best friend and squeeze his torso. “Merry Christmas, Georgie.” He rolls his eyes at the nickname you coined for him as you laugh. You see Fred at the bottom of the stairs as he makes his way to you. “Merry Christmas, Fred,” you smile.
Fred pulls you into his chest for a bear hug as you sigh in him. “Merry Christmas, darling,” he whispers into your hair, placing a gentle kiss on the top. You can’t help, but blush at the gesture before the three of you take your seats at the table. “Pancakes, bacon, eggs, and toast? Merlin, mum, you really pulled out all the stops this year,” Fred teases his mother.
Molly smiles, “This Christmas is special this year so that warrants a special breakfast.” Molly sends a wink your way as she hands you a plate. “Merry Christmas, darling. Eat up.”
Everyone munches on the delicious plate of breakfast food, complimenting Molly on how extraordinary the meal was. And that’s when the presents start to come out. Molly and Arthur hand out presents to each of their children as the impatiently unwrap them. Each Weasley gets a hand knit sweater with their respective initial on them as you giggle as Ron pulls his over his head. It was absolutely adorable that they all had matching sweaters. “And don’t think we forgot about you two,” Molly speaks as she hands you and Harry boxes.
“Oh, you didn’t have to, Molly,” you tell her as she insists to open it. When you open it, you see a navy sweater with your initial on the front. “Oh, I love it!” you cheer. “Thank you so much,” you beam. You really did love it, immediately pulling it over your head to wear it over your pajama top.
Molly claps as you do so. “Now, you’re officially a Weasley. No need to marry Fred anymore,” she teases as Fred nearly spits out his pumpkin juice. “What?” she asks. “Did I say something wrong?” You just blush a wild shade of crimson that matches Ron’s sweater as Fred excuses himself, making George let out a wild laugh.
As if the timing couldn’t be anymore perfect, an owl flies through the window with a letter in its mouth. Arthur gets up and retrieves the letter from the owl before it flies away. “It’s for you, (Y/N),” he smiles, handing you the envelope.
You furrow your brows, not knowing who it could be from. You rip open the seal of the envelope and peel the letter open which reads:
Dearest (Y/N),
Merry Christmas, darling. We miss you so much. We are so upset that we cannot be with you on your favorite holiday. But rest assured that we will see you soon after our trip comes to a close. We have beautiful gifts for you from the places we visited and we cannot wait to give them to you. Paris is truly the most beautiful place on Earth.
We hope that you are having a grand time with the Weasleys. Give them our love and gratitude for hosting you.
We are so proud of you and everything you have done at Hogwarts, love. You are truly remarkable. We love you so much and are so excited to be reunited with you soon.
All the love in the world,
Mum and Dad
XXOO
“It’s from my parents,” you tell the group with a smile as everyone softly smiles. You look at the Polaroid pictures that they attached in the letter. Your parents are smiling in front of the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, and the Louvre. “They’re in Paris. They send their love and gratitude to everyone. They said that they love me and miss me and they’re proud of me...” you trail off as tears start to form in your eyes. A lump starts in your throat and you become very sad and embarrassed at how you are reacting. You just miss your parents so much. “I’m sorry could you excuse me for a moment?” you ask as everyone nods, completely understanding how you feel.
You rise from the table and move into another room of the house, letting the tears slowly fall from your eyes. You are sure not to make any sounds, too embarrassed that you’re even crying in the first place. Sucking in a shaky breath, you try to collect yourself, squatting low, burying your head in your hands.
As you breathe in and out shakily, you feel a hand on your back, rubbing it gently. “Hey, shhhhh, come here,” Fred’s voice says as he pulls you into him, as you cry into his jumper that his mum made. “It’s alright, darling, it’s alright.” He sits on the floor as you rest next to him, holding onto him tight as if he would leave you. But Fred wasn’t going anywhere. “I know you miss them, but they are right. They’ll be back so soon. You know that they love you and they’re proud of you. What’s not to be proud of? You’re brilliant,” he tells you, rubbing your back in circling, gently comforting you.
Moment pass and you slowly pull away from Fred, looking at his now tear stained sweater. “Oh, man, I’m a mess,” you wipe your tears away as Fred shakes his head, brushing your hair away from your face. “Sorry about your sweater, I can clean it up.”
“I like it better like this,” he says with a smile. You just laugh at him as you sniffle. “I have something for you,” he tells you as you furrow your brows.
He pulls a small box out of his pocket. You sigh, “Fred, I thought we weren’t buying gifts for each other this year. We said we were saving money to go on a trip after graduation.”
Fred shakes his head, “I couldn’t resist.” You slap his arm teasingly. “Open it.”
You slowly open the small box and your eyes widen. Inside is a small golden locket engraved with beautiful detailing. You open the locket and inside is a picture of you and Fred from last year in the common room, laughing on the couch together. The memory brings an instant smile to your face. This was the sweetest, most thoughtful gift anyone has ever bought for you. “Fred, I don’t have any words. This is beautiful,” you tell him.
“You like it?” he asks, nervously.
“Do I like it?” you laugh. “I love it. Thank you so much,” you tell him. “Could you do the clasp?” you ask, turning around and handing him the necklace. Carefully, Fred places it around your neck and clasps the necklace. You hold the locket in your fingers as you smile at him. “Why did you do this?” you ask, furrowing your brows.
Fred nervously gulps. “Because...” he starts. “You know, (Y/N)...like I said the other night...we’re close and I really cannot see myself without you.”
Your heart flutters as you look around only to recognize that you and Fred are in the same spot as you were the other night from the bonfire. Mistletoe dangles above you again and Fred follows the sightline. He stops talking and looks at you. This time no one was going to stop from you from doing this.
In this instant, you lean in and press your lips to Fred’s, connecting you two in a sweet kiss. At first, Fred is a little shocked, but takes no time in kissing you back, his hand cupping your cheek, pulling you closer to him. You hands cup his face as your lips move in sync with each other. His lips taste of syrup and you smile into the kiss. It just felt so right like this was how your first kiss was supposed to go.
Slowly, you pull away from the kiss, searching his eyes for what he was going to say. But for the first time in forever, Fred is speechless. “I hate breaking traditions,” you tease him, making him chuckle.
Fred shakes his head and kisses you again, this time more excited and passionate. His arms wrap around you, letting you know that you aren’t going anywhere. You were his now and there was no way he was letting you go. Not like you wanted to. This was home. The kiss is gentle, but loving and passionate. Your heart is beating so fast and your mind is reeling. This felt like a dream.
You pull away again from the kiss, pressing your forehead against each other. “Just so you know,” Fred speaks, “I was going to kiss you whether there was or wasn’t mistletoe.” You giggle at his antics, knowing that he was telling the truth. “This does mean you’re my girlfriend now, right?” he asks, genuinely asking, making you laugh.
“I hope so, Weasley,” you tell him. “That’s my present to you.”
He jokingly pumps his fist in the air. He places a quick kiss to your lips again. “Merry Christmas, (Y/N),” he whispers to you.
Smiling so hard that your cheeks hurt, you whisper back, “Merry Christmas, tiger.”
Fred pulls you up from the floor, giving your hands a squeeze. “And now to face the taunting,” he warns you. “Be prepared. But on a brave face. This is just the beginning. You don’t know what you’ve gotten yourself into dating a Weasley.”
The two of you emerge back into the dining room, hand in hand making Ginny cheer and George stand up, clapping. “It’s a bloody Christmas miracle!” he yells, making you laugh as Ron just sits there, absolutely lost at what is going on, mouth full on pancakes. You blush wildly as Fred pulls you into his arms, kissing your forehead. “Welcome to the family!” George mockingly yells, embracing you and Fred in a dramatic hug.
In this moment, you have never felt more at home. It was the most wonderful Christmas you had ever had and you couldn’t wait for more.

Hi! I really like your posts on TDJ! I was wondering if you had any thoughts on what the other characters (ie Jinjoo, Soohyun, Elijah, Sun Ah, etc) think about Yohan and Gaon's relationship. Thank you!!!
Hii :3 and thank YOU! Yes, I do have some thoughts on it but a lot of them will change in later episodes and we can't be too sure. I'll do the ones you mentioned + Jungho and K.
Jinju -> Gahan:
Tumblr media
In the first few episodes, it seems that Gaon and Yohan don't get along well or like each other that much in front of her, specially Gaon. While Jinju herself is a fan and tries to mediate between them when the tension is high for the sake of their team. She believes they should talk, ask for help and trust each other in everything because they're in this together as work colleagues but slowly her opinions about Yohan and consequently Gaon changes when they both start to keep her out of their business and encounters. So right now she must see them as strangers who left her out and are on the same side, they represent a threat to her new ambitions and beliefs. A vision that has been and will be encouraged by Sunah.
Soohyun -> Gahan:
Tumblr media
Soohyun was very cautious and believed in the public opinion: besides Gaon being wary of Yohan, he is a powerful judge adored by the people, they shouldn't mess with him or doubt him. But after witnessing Yohan's other side when destroying the yellow car, she sees him in another light and get suspicious of him like Gaon. The difference is: she's determined that Yohan is the bad guy no matter what and that what everyone else says about Yohan is the truth even without proof but if it's Yohan saying it, they should be careful. Even when it does seem like Yohan has a good reason and could be innocent of what they're suspecting him, she thinks his ways of seeking justice are wrong and he's still bad.
In episode 8, when she questions Gaon for just stopping by at his own house but staying at Yohan's all the time, Gaon barely looks at her as he answers with an almost fond smile that he has someone to take care in there (Elijah and Yohan) and we can see Soohyun feeling troubled by that response. Gaon hasn't be telling her everything for a while now (ever since the hospital) and it seems that Gaon is having a change of heart with Yohan while keeping her out of it, so according to that and the tvN character description, she will continue to investigate Yohan and want to find out his secrets. She won't like their close relationship and the strange deaths that will appear around them. She's worried that Yohan could have brainwashed Gaon and is a bad influence to him. Which is kinda true but depends on your point of view, Yohan has been pretty straightforward with Gaon about his intentions and Gaon already had this thing inside him, Yohan just brought it back and out of him.
Elijah -> Gahan:
Tumblr media
She sass the hell out of them, sees them both as annoying and hates Gaon for resembling her father at first but then is slowly won over by Gaon's charm and motherly ways. She starts seeing him as a friend she never had and then even a family member when she worries/gets sad that he's not home and promotes him to ahjussi status like Yohan. Gahan is the bridge between Elijah and Yohan and Elijah and Gaon. Elijah is the same thing for them (the nanny included). I'd say she sees them as a parental figure but that's just my biased opinion :P Who knows? What I'm sure is that she thinks of Gahan as her only family left.
Sunah -> Gahan:
Tumblr media
She's been watching them since that donation party thing and could see how smitten Yohan is with Gaon, going as far as acting like his chaperone and showing Gaon his true intentions, the ugly truth behind their corrupt world. She doesn't waste time on using that information to get to Yohan and poison Gaon's already wary mind about him. Later, she does it again when trying to make it seem that Yohan was the one that hurt Soohyun so Gaon would lash out and be against Yohan. Gaon must be another one of her precious chess pieces for this whole game. She won't hesitate in using Gaon to get to Yohan and vice-versa. Gahan is the weakness and strength point of each other as well as a crucial opening to whoever wants to take them down and Sunah sees them as such.
Jungho -> Gahan:
Tumblr media
The reason for Gaon's suspicions in the first place. Jungho put Gaon against Yohan without a chance of thinking it over or meeting him with a clear mind. He wanted Gaon to be Yohan's Judas. Gaon investigates and gets closer to Yohan, his mind set on betraying Yohan in the end but then he falters and gets confused about what he's learning and seeing for himself. To the point it becomes painful and troublesome to think about choosing sides and betraying Yohan. Jungho keeps pressuring him to make a choice and in that conversation at Gaon's house when they're sitting on the ground around the table with Soohyun, Jungho is already aware of Gaon's behavior and words but still firm that Gaon has to do what he is told (give everything he has found out about Yohan) and continue to betray Yohan.
And then Gaon does make a decision but to Jungho's surprise, he didn't choose him. After everything Jungho did to discipline Gaon and give him that job, Gaon ended up being Jungho's Judas and not Yohan's. So that's what Jungho must think. I have a feeling he knew from early on that there was a big chance of this happening because of the person Gaon was in the past. But he was willing to risk it anyway and that was the result.
K -> Gahan:
Tumblr media
As Gaon is investigating Yohan and thinking he was "oh so subtle and smart", K was investigating Gaon before that and tracking his steps to see how much he would uncover about Yohan. K has a strong respect and loyalty for Yohan from what we have seen so far. Maybe Yohan is like a father figure to K after he lost his father (Yohan is helping him with it) and the closest thing to a best friend Yohan ever had. It seems to me that Gaon was just another job and problem in the way for K, but when he saw Yohan going as far as almost killing a man for hurting Gaon and letting Gaon get away alive with things others never would, if they had done it with Yohan, he reacts kinda like Soohyun. K questions Yohan like Soohyun did. "Then why are you doing this?" "I don't know. He related to me so much that I was a bit flustered. I've never experienced it before" after Yohan saying that, all distracted with a little smile, we can we see K's troubled and thoughtful face. It's when he realizes Yohan is also getting confused by Gaon and their closeness. Yohan wants to do anything he can to make Gaon work on their side so he doesn't have to hurt or kill Gaon.
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
In conclusion, as we can see, all of them think of Gahan as some kind of threat, bad duo and their enemies that are stronger and dangerous together and quickly became close partners, be it friendly partners or more ;) haha as for K and Elijah, it's like "you're annoying but you became my second dad figure and made my other dad figure more bearable to be around and now I love you" and "you suck at this, but you're making my best friend more soft and happy, so I can accept your flaws and now your spot in our team".
I hope you liked it!

Tumblr media
You put all your faith in my dreams
You gave me the world that I wanted
What did I do to deserve you?
You smiled as Jordan and Jonathan gave Clark his Father’s Day presents. It was the simple things that made the hero smile.
Jordan gave him a best dad mug and card. Jonathan being Jonathan gave Clark ‘My Dad is the best Superhero’ shirt, causing the hero to go pink.
You and Lois laughed at Clark’s reaction. Seeing Jordan laugh made you feel butterflies, your laughter dying down and a soft smile on your lips.
Even though the moment was joyful and filled with laughter, your mind reminded you of your own father. Joseph (L/N), ex-witch hunter turned father to a witch.
Your mood decreased drastically, the memories of your father flooding your mind.
“(Y/N), we better get going” Lois took you out of your thoughts. You nodded at the reporter before bidding the boys a farewell. You kissed Jordan’s cheek, hugging Jon and Clark before you and Lois left them to their day.
I follow your steps with my feet
I walk on the road that you started
I need you to know that I heard you, every word
“Thanks Lois. I’ll see you later” You thanked her, stepping out of her car. “You gonna be okay kid?” Lois asked you. You only nodded before walking into the cemetery.
You looked for your family tomb, seeing many others paying their respects to the dead. You held your blue tulips tightly as you reached the tomb.
(L/N) was carved in cursive atop the stone, flowers and your family crest as well. You could feel your ancestors' spirits weigh down on your shoulders. The dead hunter's feelings surrounding the corners of your mind.
You used your enchanted key to open up the tomb, a cold breeze washed over you. You walked over to where your father’s body laid.
“Hi Daddy. I guess there’s a lot I have to tell you huh?”
I've waited way too long to say
Everything you mean to me
“You remember Jordan? Martha’s grandson. Well he’s my boyfriend now”
Really, that’s sweet
“ I also got banished from the coven, mother didn't seem fazed by it. Honestly I think she wanted it to happen”
That's Esther for you, cold hearted
“Jordan’s parents found me and took me in”
That’s great sweetie
“Lois is really nice. She tries to understand my powers and help me control them. She’s different to Esther, there’s this warmth about her its very… motherly”
I’m happy for you baby girl
In case you don't live forever, let me tell you now
I love you more than you'll ever wrap your head around
In case you don't live forever, let me tell you the truth
I'm everything that I am because of you
“Clark knows that I know about the whole identity thing. Ever since, he’s been super supportive in my studies. He had a friend who is involved in the arts to teach me more advanced magic which is fun”
I’m glad you're adding to your knowledge of magic and strengthening your abilities
“Jon, Jordan’s twin brother, is the house clown. Always cracking jokes and being a goofball. He’s a great Quarterback for the Crows and a good brother and friend”
I see you have a great friend by your side
I, I've carried this song in my mind
Listen, it's echoing in me
But I haven't helped you to hear it
We, we've only got so much time
I'm pretty sure it would kill me
If you didn't know the pieces of me are pieces of you
“Jordan. He’s so sweet and kind. He is the reason I’m even still alive. Without him in my life, I don’t know where I’d be without him. He always wants to help me grow into a better person. He knows how to make me laugh and shows me that no matter what, everything will workout”
I am so glad you have someone like that in your life, you deserve that
I've waited way too long to say
Everything you mean to me
In case you don't live forever, let me tell you now
I love you more than you'll ever wrap your head around
In case you don't live forever, let me tell you the truth
I'm everything that I am because of you
“I haven’t seen Thomas yet. It’s weird, not being in constant control by the coven. Not being told to do this or hex her. I kinda miss the other witches but they don’t seem to miss me much”
Don’t mind them sweetie. That’ll just who they are
I have a hero whenever I need one
I just look up to you and I see one
I'm a man 'cause you taught me to be one
This was when you noticed your tears, hearing the patter of your tears hitting the concrete floor.
“I miss you so much Daddy. I miss you, Luca and the real Thomas. I just want you back, to fix everything that’s gone wrong. I miss you so much Daddy” You sobbed, leaning against the floor with your palms.
In case you don't live forever, let me tell you now
I love you more than you'll ever wrap your head around
In case you don't live forever, let me tell you the truth
I'm everything that I am
“I want you to be here with me. Show up to stupid school events, meet Jordan, train with me when I’mo angry at the world and just be there when I need you most” you cried harder before you felt a warmth spreading from your shoulder.
You looked up to see Clark. He gave you a solemn look before helping you up. You wiped your tears with your sleeve before looking at the kryptonian. Clark never spoke before pulling you into a tight hug.
“I’ll be waiting outside, when you want to talk I’m here” he said before you broke the hug. Nodding as he left the tomb. You didn’t even remember leaving the door open.
You kissed your father’s plaque, “Happy Father’s Day Daddy” you whispered before leaving your family tomb. After locking the door you turned to see not Clark but Jordan.
“I know for a fact your Dad would be proud of you” Jordan smiled at you. You just smiled, letting a few more tears spill. Jordan came closer and wiped them away, kissing your cheeks. Jordan pulled you in for one more hug, kissing your head.
Whoa... whoa...
In case you don't live forever, let me tell you the truth
As long as I'm here as I am, so are you
My baby is all grown up…

OBSESSED WITH GISELLE.. what would she think of berdly’s friends ????
YAY I'M HAPPY YOU LIKE HER i'm also obsessed with her. to answer your quastion...
noelle:
very nice girl! berdly is very hesitant about letting people come over - it's just...awkward; it feels like he's revealing too much of himself :/ for a long time, noelle was the only friend of his who got to see his house and meet giselle ! anyway. giselle is not very great at interacting with her own kid sometimes and is generally worse at interacting with other people's kids. the first time she met noelle was actually at the spelling bee, since noelle got second place and also because after seeing her break down on stage berdly was like :( and kind of attached himself to her hip and was trying to cheer her up! giselle didn't retain much about her at the time but she was thinking to herself "oh what a sweet little girl", and after that berdly starts saying things like "i'm going to noelle's house after school today" and giselle's like ? who's noelle. and berdly's like, ...you met her at the spelling bee, and giselle's like OH. ok. and is secretly very pleased to see berdly making a close friend (take THAT toriel i told you he was a capable well-adjusted child-)
as noelle starts to come over every so often, giselle finally pieces together that she's the holidays' youngest daughter and remembers the big uproar about that snowstorm and their oldest disappearing during it... that aside, she appreciates how kind and clever!! noelle is. but she sees the deep-set sadness in her eyes and it breaks her heart, and she wishes she knew how to reach out... and for her part, noelle is Wary of giselle, having had many a conversation with berdly about both their moms' less than stellar performances over the years. she stays totally polite, but maintains a certain icy distance. BUT when berdly tells her that he thinks things are going to get better, she starts to let her guard down. she starts having proper conversations with giselle when berdly leaves the room for whatever reason. the ice is officially melted when giselle passes by the living room and sees noelle looking at the (few) framed photos giselle has of younger berdly hung on the walls, and because berdly is upstairs and out of earshot and can't protest, giselle asks noelle if she'd like to see her photo album, where all of berdly's Baby pictures are hidden
kris:
oh she adores kris :) they 100% have her blessing agfjkdlfldj. she loves that they’re like...themself. and they’re not interested in conforming to other people’s expectations (small tangent to clarify that a lot of kris’s character revolves around this struggle of feeling like it’d be better if they were a different person, someone worthy of being in the dreemurr family, the person the red soul tries to make them be - but they don’t want to be a different person. no matter how hard they try to force themself. they don’t want to be like... ralsei. they like who they are. much like susie, they are unapologetically themself. but they are apologizing for Not Wanting to be another person, because they do still feel like they should, but they don’t. and after the red soul stuff is resolved they really embrace who they are and stop making apologies entirely. make sense? ok great anyway)
their generally very relaxed disposition, sardonic sense of humor, and the slight spunk to their attitude... they remind her of herself when she was young! before 5795748354735748 billion things happened and she became more of a high energy whirlwind. (she’s mellowed out again in recent years but she’ll also never be as chill as she was when she was a teenager) she thinks they temper berdly, and she’s right :) they get along well!! giselle adapts quickly to essentially having a second (third. fourth? christ) kid all of a sudden
susie:
as a mother, giselle is not immune to susie’s insta-charm and adoptable aura. she isn’t as motherly and nurturing as like, toriel. but she definitely thinks very fondly of susie and likes to make sure she’s doing alright. and of course, it’s always very nice to see berdly’s circle of friends growing... since you can't really separate her from kris and/or noelle, she's a frequent guest for dinner and hangouts and etc
tem:
i just think this is a funny friendship possibility so i'm writing it into existence. she sits next to berdly ok. she pesters him until one day he's like "y'know what you're alright actually." they aren't Close-close but like idk she keeps him company on really slow days at the library. so actually lottie knows tem better than giselle does, but lottie speaks well of her to giselle! maybe one day it's raining pretty hard after school so giselle goes to pick berdly up and he's sharing his umbrella with tem and giselle asks her if she needs a ride home too. and ya sure whatever, the pastabilities
jockington:
giselle doesn’t see jockington too often - mostly just at cross country meets! but she thinks he’s a good kid. she’s super happy that he and noelle got berdly to join the cross country team because that’s what she did in high school too :) little bit of motherly pride seeing her kid do the same extracurriculars she did etc.......
catti:
berdly isn’t close with catti so giselle sees her even less than jockington. if they hang out, it’s because she’s tagging along with like jockington or noelle or kris. as berdly starts to get Over Himself and makes more of an effort to be friendlier to his classmates, catti’s like oh, chill. and starts doing things like giving him a little wave when he comes into class. they just. don’t have a lot of common ground...? they did get into a rather (positively) heated discussion about dragon blazers once tho. ANYWAY i’m thinking that giselle, lottie, and berdly all go out to qc’s while catti’s working and she passes by their table and pauses and is like, hey berdly. and moves on. and giselle’s like who is that, does she go to your school, are you two friends, etc
the high school class is so small that i do think all the kids are Pretty Much friends one way or another. but giselle knows MK and snowy Even Less than catti. she knows they like, exist. she sees them around. she doesn't know their names tho

Talk to us girl! What else do you have to say about El's arcs through the seasons and motherly love? I want to hear THIS content, f*ck all the ship wars!!
i’m so sorry this took actual months to reply to, i’m not gonna get into why just.... hi anon, ty for your patience 😭 tbh i'm not sure if i'm saying anything new, but this is almost 3k words long so hopefully i'm offering something
a few things to note before i delve into everything, bc this is a gendered topic:
el identifies w femininity, even after being raised in a lab w just a number as a name, essentially raised w/o any real gender constructs set in place, or at least not enough to understand gender fundamentally. but she identifies w femininity, as seen in the way she gravitates to feminine symbols in her surroundings. and it's interesting how her relationships w female characters are always given a bit of attention
the way fathers are portrayed on this show is... notable. we've got el's father figure brenner, as well as kali's relationship w brenner, steve's dad is apparently an asshole, ted is ted (not the worst but isn't much anyways), billy's dad been abusive his whole stay, lonnie is a danger to society, and hopper, although arguably redeemable and has been given more attention since he's a central character…… hasn't been the best all the way through. lucas' dad was p alright and dustin……… doesn't have one 🙃
meanwhile we got joyce who's the best parent in this entire show PERIOD absolutely beautiful amazing talented show-stopping etc etc, there's karen who almost slept w a minor but made a last minute decision not to (karen is a work in progress and i have a lot of thoughts about her i'm not gonna get into), dustin's mom is cute (a bit dopey but cute), lucas' mom is also cute, billy's mom is practically portrayed as an angel, and terry……… poor poor terry.
anyways there's a very clear difference.
st1
the topic of el and motherhood doesn’t really get tackled until st2, but i'm gonna go through this season by season. bc, spoiler alert, i'm fairly certain joyce will be el's mother/mother figure once the show's wrapped up. we can even say that's already happened after st3's ending, but ofc we're still in need of more personal relationship development.
basically, i believe el's relationship w motherhood, and her idea of mothers has a lot to do w joyce.
joyce is essentially el's "standard" (for lack of a better term) for what a mother is supposed to be.
someone might have to correct me on this, but i like to think that joyce is the first example of motherly love that el truly experiences (other than briefly seeing terry in the lab). not even when they first meet tho, but when the boys sneak el into the school and she "channels" will through the p.a. system.
when she hears joyce trying to comfort will and tell him to hide (which in itself messes me up bc depending on your take on the demogorgon, that shit is heart wrenching), i can only imagine what el might be thinking. what will has in joyce is completely different from what el has in brenner 😭
el's (as well as the show's tbh) view of fathers are very different from her view of mothers. fathers are demanding, ruthless, and cold. but she sees joyce, and she thinks mothers are passionate, caring, and protective, and all of that translates through a p.a. system when el hears joyce's desperation. i'm sure el sees a lot of herself in will - his fear and desperation, his terror of being in the upside down, describing it as cold and dark, just like the chamber brenner locks her in, or even the void, the water tank, her own room even - which only makes joyce's impression on her so much stronger.
and in ep7 'the bathtub' when el gets to have a one-on-one w joyce, there are certain points in that scene that parallel her and brenner, and i think that only hammers home el's idea of what mothers are and what they should be.
joyce promises her a presence. joyce is able to be there for her, comfort her, even when el is in a place like the void, that's just emptiness and darkness all around. she hears joyce's voice, and for once she's not alone. and it's nice to think she's w joyce and will in these moments, when she's in castle byers and she can act as a connection to will and joyce (a-and jonathan, sorry i don't really mention him throughout this piece, i didn't even expect to mention will this much, but jon's important too, we love a parental big brother).
it's shown how scared el can be moment to moment. the second will fades from her, she cries for him and curls up into a ball, and once she's out of the upside she latches onto joyce - and gosh the dependability!! joyce is there for her just like she promised.
this makes el meeting her own mother fuking heartbreaking.
st2
this idea of a mother sticks w el this whole time, and her idea of fathers doesn't get any better. i don't think el even pictures hopper as any kind of father figure, definitely not yet, but as a "friend," hence her shouting at him "friends don't lie". it's not until they're fighting and she shouts "you are like papa!" that it all comes full fuking circle!!
(it's the way hopper leaves her alone for hours, like how brenner isolates her in a dark chamber. it’s how in both instances, she’s still isolated from society. it's the way hopper sets rules for her that don’t allow to act instinctively on her own. it's him telling her "you wanna go back in the lab? i can make that happen." it's damaging shit. it's triggering.)
then el finds out that hopper lies to her again, but this time it's about her mother, which……..
that scene of her breaking down, crying for her mama, is so sad. idk what else to say, everything that happens from this point on is sad!!!!!!!
fast forward to el reaching terry and becky's house. i can't even imagine what el feels when she meets her mom for the first time……… and terry is in the state that she's in. barely responsive.
but i can say how el's guilt is continuously brought up time and time again, bc when she sees terry's memories and sees how determined terry was to get her back, the lengths she went through - it's all just like joyce. her expectations of a mother stays intact.
only, unlike joyce and will, things don't work out in the end for el and terry. terry suffers for trying to get el back. and it wouldn’t be surprising if that fed into el’s guilt.
(also, this has bothered me ever since first watch, but terry is portrayed w a bit of hostility when el returns. when el meets her in the void, and she's says she's home, terry tells her "no" and grabs her arm, triggering terry's memories. it's lead me to ask myself if terry holds resentment for el, and for the price terry had to pay....... or maybe it was just for dramatic scary horror, i’m not entirely sure.)
there's this moment right after el comes out of the void and back into reality, and becky tries to comfort her. bc of terry's unavailability, it's a possibility that becky could've been the mother figure that el needed. but the awkwardness in this moment - in how terry tries to comfort el, but el is still visibly shook and doesn't hug back, unlike her moment w joyce in st1, when el practically clings to her - kinda foreshadows how things just aren't gonna work out so ideally.
this next bit regarding el avenging terry may or may not be a lil "out there" but i think it's interesting to think about.
el views finding kali as something terry wants her to do. and kali echoes that sentiment. kali essentially acts as this one last tether el has to terry, which may be why she thinks of kail as a sister.
i have a lot of thoughts about el's self worth, her morality, her means of protecting others no matter what she suffers. i’m not about to go on a tangent, but just to get the main idea out there: el straddles a line between viewing herself as a monster and viewing herself as a protector, and anything outside of that feels is out of her reach.
what kali gives her is a chance to sorta explore that monstrous side of herself - the side that is willing to hurt others, even when there's no one in immediate danger to protect.
but kali is her last tether to her mother. and what kali is asking her to do clashes w what she pictures a mother is meant to do. i'm not saying kali is some kind of mother figure, nor is that really the bigger picture. but finding kali is something terry "told" her to do. it all plays a part in the scene when they confront the man that followed brenner's orders, ray carrell.
would terry actually want this for el?
el sees a photo of that ray and his daughters, and reminds herself of what she wants, what she yearns for, and what she's been deprived of. the reason why she feels so much pain, and is having so much trouble healing. and she chooses to protect the children - to prioritize the children - instead of giving in to the monster inside of her planted by brenner.
kali has different values. she's chosen a different path for herself. we're never really sure what kali knows about her own past, who she's met in her life, but we do know that she's lost people, and she doesn't have much of a connection to terry despite el considering her a sister.
and that comes full circle when kali makes el see brenner.
the words brenner uses here are technically just kali's words, since she told el the same things and brenner in this scene is just an image created by kali. but that's what makes this scene so brilliant. this scene is kali talking to el, but she’s masked as brenner.
brenner tells people they're sick. kali still believes she's sick. kali hasn't healed despite claiming to - instead she's become a mirror to brenner.
this is el's view of fatherhood: demanding, ruthless, and cold. brenner hurt el, and bc of all that hardship, el is in danger of becoming a mirror to brenner. and unfortunately, this is what kali has succumbed to. kali has failed to realize the monster she's so convinced that she is, is a concept completely fabricated by brenner.
this is what leads el back to her friends. just like how terry did everything in her power to save el and suffered devastating consequences, el returns to her friends to wholeheartedly put herself in that very position.
it's so touching to see el and joyce hug. although, joyce is still "will's mom" to el (she even refers to her as such in st3). but she still holds that connection to the byers family. el still prioritizes will's safety, just as she prioritized the kids back in chicago.
now to briefly cover what el and hopper's reconciliation means for this topic - it's a very vulnerable scene. one of the most vulnerable scenes in the entire show. el and hopper allow themselves to understand and relate to each other, through guilt and trauma and emotion, and bc of the profound impact of this conversation, hopper is…… enough. it’s still uncertain that el considers hopper as a father figure, but at this point she lost her mother, and she lost kali, and hopper lost sarah. they have each other though. and it gives both of them the chance to finally begin to heal.
el channels the anger she feels being deprived of a mother to close the gate. but the gate's essentially a scar still struggling to heal.
st3
it may be a mystery to no one that i'm not a big fan of st3, and there's not a lot to talk about in terms of el and joyce. couple notes about them tho, before we get into the real shit that happened this season
hopper asks if joyce could talk to el and mike for him, which she turns down, so they're deliberately being kept apart by the writers (i also feel like we have v limited knowledge of what joyce thinks of el, so she might be keeping her distance for reasons i'm not really sure of yet).
it's cute to think about how hopper's letter isn't just hopper's letter, but it's joyce's letter to el as well. el just doesn't know it.
let's talk about billy's mom.
el's relationships w female characters on this show always seem to be given a lil extra layer. and el's immediate draw towards billy's mom is so charming to watch. she calls her "pretty" and feels as if she's is looking at her, all before she even finds out who the woman is.
once again, the standard for motherhood on this show is enforced by billy's mom and her literal angel-like presence. she's good to billy, she allows him the freedom of doing what he loves, but not before warning him that dad might get mad!! great!!
billy goes through very similar phases that el went through
his father is abusive, and hurts both billy and the mother
billy loses his mom
the lack of proximity to his mom eventually leads him to mirror the toxicity of his father
the moments that el seems to recognize rather quickly are when billy's dad is being abusive, billy desperately wanting his mom to come home, and billy quickly succumbing to toxicity.
we've explored this pattern in previous seasons, so it's pretty easy to piece together, even within a quick montage.
so when el has her moment w billy, reminding him of his mom, it's so incredibly powerful. when you think about how much this moment upon, after everything that happened in the previous 2 seasons, it just hits.
just as we've discussed how motherhood throughout the show has meant prioritizing the safety of the ones you care about and protecting them against all odds, billy protects el from the mind flayer to the point of self sacrifice.
(and while i may not agree that it completely works just bc of how i feel about billy as a character, it works to tie in all these themes really well. also i'm sure there's other kinds of readings you can do on this scene, i even thought about this scene completely differently a couple months back but ANYWAYS-)
honestly, the way el comforts max in this scene...... feels kinda motherly. there's definitely something to be said about how el's not always treated as just a child - despite still learning speech, she's still been forced to grow up in other aspects of herself, and she constantly puts herself in a position to protect others. but this scene w el and max is sweet, and it's nice that max has el for that moment before el eventually moves away w the byers.
and ofc, el loses hopper this season, which in her mind leaves her parentless. joyce is there regardless (tho joyce taking over for hopper and watching over el does kinda happen in a "no explanation needed" kinda way, and i'm not really sure how i feel about that).
joyce and el have still quite a ways to go before really developing the mother-daughter relationship that feels inevitable at this point. and after hopper's death, the way this season ended, and the way joyce and el interact, there's a bit of uncertainty as to how their relationship will develop. even after the 3 month jump, they come off as rather distant from each other.
nut yeah, i'm excited for st4. after engaging in all the ship wars, and having my own gripes w how the duffers write romance, i think i'm starting to fall back in love w this show. writing this has definitely made me feel happier about the show, and made me feel excited about certain aspects of the show that might've been in the back of my mind, but now it's all at the forefront.
i really do love el as a character, and joyce might be a very close second, if not at the same level as el. their stories have been leading towards each other since the beginning and i can't wait until we get the payoff.
i hope someone reads this lol. again i’m sorry this took months......... depression uh anon, i hope this is what you wanted 😂 and if anyone feels compelled to add on feel free to do so 😊………. hopefully it's positive lol

I loved your ranking of character arcs (for the main seven)! Would you mind going into more detail about Ron's character arc, and how he developed from the first to the last book? I apologise if you've already answered a similar request! :)
[Ranking of character arcs]
Well, during the first three books Ron is rather static - he’s awesome, but he doesn’t has much in the terms of “character growth” moments. He does epic stuff like the chess match, following the spiders et all we know, but that isn’t character growth as much as it is freaking badass.
The first three books serve to sow the basics for Ron’s character: he’s a devoted friend, he can face death with a laugh, and in spite of his bouts of rudeness or temper he’s fundamentally kind and doesn’t take himself too seriously - something two people like “boy-who-lived” Harry and “child prodigy” Hermione desperately need.
But what the first book does is introduce Ron’s emotional baggage.
"I'm the sixth in our family to go to Hogwarts. You could say I've got a lot to live up to. Bill and Charlie have already left -- Bill was head boy and Charlie was captain of Quidditch. Now Percy's a prefect. Fred and George mess around a lot, but they still get really good marks and everyone thinks they're really funny. Everyone expects me to do as well as the others, but if I do, it's no big deal, because they did it first. You never get anything new, either, with five brothers. I've got Bill's old robes, Charlie's old wand, and Percy's old rat."
This introduces us to Ron’s inferiority complex and its origins.
And later on, The Mirror Of Erised helps elaborate:
Harry stepped aside, but with Ron in front of the mirror, he couldn't see his family anymore, just Ron in his paisley pajamas.
Ron, though, was staring transfixed at his image.
"Look at me!" he said.
"Can you see all your family standing around you?"
"No -- I'm alone -- but I'm different -- I look older -- and I'm head boy!"
"What?"
"I am -- I'm wearing the badge like Bill used to -- and I'm holding the house cup and the Quidditch cup -- I'm Quidditch captain, too."
Dumbledore will then add his grain of salt -
Harry thought. Then he said slowly, "It shows us what we want... whatever we want..."
"Yes and no," said Dumbledore quietly. "It shows us nothing more or less than the deepest, most desperate desire of our hearts. You, who have never known your family, see them standing around you. Ronald Weasley, who has always been overshadowed by his brothers, sees himself standing alone, the best of all of them. However, this mirror will give us neither knowledge or truth. Men have wasted away before it, entranced by what they have seen, or been driven mad, not knowing if what it shows is real or even possible.”
Something to know about Dumbledore - he’s JK Rowling’s mouthpiece. When she wants to tell us something, she puts it in him.
And... well, this looks like a rather... selfish interpretation of Ron’s desire. Especially the “standing alone” part. It somewhat implies that Ron is selfish - especially compared to Harry’s desire which is oh so pure and oh so sad because boo hoo orphan family stuff. (I may be letting all the times Harry fans have pulled the “butt herry iz an orhpan!! :’((” card colour my perception.)
“The best of all of them”. When Ron sees himself being both Head Boy and Quidditch Captain. He’s combining his brothers’ successes into himself. His belief is that this is how he could stand out and be loved - by combining his brothers’ accomplishments.
Anyway.
Goblet of Fire then makes us see Ron’s main problems - his insecurity can lead him astray. First he believes that Harry left him behind during the Triwizard, because why not? After all Ron has already seen that betrayal can come from the craziest places (Lockhart, aka adults/authority figures, Ginny being the Heir Of Slytherin aka family even against their will, and last but not least, freaking Scabbers, aka SEEMINGLY INNOCENT THINGS YOU FEED AND PROTECT). Add to it his budding feeling that he is overlooked in favour of Harry (the twins giving Harry the Marauders’ Map...) and Ron’s emotions get the best of him, which isn’t helped by Harry’s entitled attitude and his acting as though Ron is stupid for questioning him. And then Viktor Krum appears as a prop show us what a catch Hermione is and to be all that makes Ron insecure. The Yule Brawl serves to foreshadow Romione but also to show the negative aspects of Ron’s insecurity, namely jealousy and how he lashes out when he feels betrayed. However, at the end of Goblet of Fire, Ron symbolically outgrows his jealousy by asking Viktor Krum for his autograph.
Order of the Phoenix will then go on to show Ron being jealous of Krum, although being a bit less vocal about it... and it also gives Ron half of the things he’s dreamed of in first year: he’s made a prefect, and joins the Quidditch team. But those are immediately made hollow by the... lackluster reaction of his loved ones and by Malfoy being a vile piece of pond scum. The fact that he’s prefect could have been used to make Ron take on more responsibilities and showcase his motherly side more, but Rowling only used it to again pit him against Hermione by making Ron look like “the immature one” and making Hermione “the responsible one”. And then, to REALLY drive home the point that Ron isn’t allowed to have anything for himself, she has Dumbledore say “oh yeah Harry, you were supposed to be prefect, even though you’re basically allergic to rules and authority and also are emotionally stunted”, and so in a symbolic way VALIDATING Hermione’s reaction to Ron being prefect. Yeah fuck you too Rowling. And the Quidditch debacle could have been used to give Ron confidence in himself. Actually, it does somewhat give him confidence once he trounces Slytherin in the last match of the year. But the fact that Harry and Hermione weren’t present means that Ron’s victory is an afterthought, a background event, a minor thing. Yet, Ron still proves his maturity and patience by just accepting that his friends weren’t here to see him play. They don’t deserve him, seriously. This year also marks a drama-free year for Ron and Hermione, which could have then been built up to make them grow even closer in the next book... but oh, the faults of TERFs...
Half-Blood Prince basically takes all of Ron’s progression through the last two books and says “see that? All that? Well let’s pretend it never happened and do it again, but shittier!” The thing is, Rowling wants Ron to “make himself worthy of Hermione” like the very progressive person she is. But she is also aware that Ron is kind of a naïve romantic who wouldn’t date around while he’s in love with someone else. Unless... Unless she resurrects plotlines that have already been finished, thus bringing Ron back to square one. Now he’s back to not being able to play Quidditch properly and Hermione acts the saviour because girl power. Now he’s back to being enraged by Viktor Krum’s name. Now he’s even less mature than he was in Philosopher’s Stone because Plot Be Like That. JKR did do a pretty good job at setting up the whole argument, not gonna lie. Since Ron is so sensitive to betrayal, finding out that Hermione had lied to him about Krum would indeed make him furious, especially when he finds out that Ginny knew about it and (apparently) so did Harry. Basically, the entire sixth year is built to undermine Ron’s growth and character, both because Harry must be in love with Ginny and in order to properly appreciate Ginny he has to appreciate Ron’s qualities less, since Ginny and Ron basically have the same qualities Harry appreciates but he can only be in love with Ginny; and also because Ron “needed to make himself worthy of Hermione” courtesy of double-standards, sexism and general immaturity from our author.
Finally DH closes the horrible loop. Rather than letting Ron grow secure and confident, Rowling instead insists on pulling him down, and down, and down, then gives us Harry saying “she’s like my sister, I thought you knew” as if that somehow would fix the self-esteem issues and the self-hatred and the sheer abuse Ron is subjected to by his friends - and for someone as obsessed with "love redeems” as Rowling is, it probably is, but those of us suffering from depression know better. Even though the Epilogue shows us Ron being happy and confident enough to joke about fame, it still leaves a bitter taste in the mouth when you realize that Ron-bashers take the “Confunded the instructor” lines to absurd levels and use it as “proof” that Ron is a bad husband / lazy / a cheater / etc... when it’s immediately followed by -
"I only forgot to look in the wing mirror, and let's face it, I can use a Supersensory Charm for that."
This is basically Ron doing the wizard equivalent of the rear-view camera. But of course, bashfics have been written to make it so Ron causes a horrible crash accident and Hermione calls for divorce and blah blah blah sigh.

I was wondering what your thoughts were on the fact that O.ctavia only realized what Bellamy has been through when she had to witness Hope's birth and then raise her?
okay frankly that's something i think often about especially when i see o gifs with hope and d/yoza.
the truth is that i'm a little bit 50/50 on that.
i know back last year half the fandom practically said it's total bs and the other half admired it and i myself am split. this is one of the few things that i don't have a concrete opinion about which i don't think it's bad.
i always try to look at things from all sides if i can do that.
so i'll start with what i personally would have wanted which is for O to realize what Bellamy had to go through without the experience of having a kid born in her arms.
I wanted her to just *get* him and I'll explain why-this entire time she's been the angry kid that he raised who got on earth and demanded she had her own life and as much as he was possessive at first that possession and controlling manner just turned to protection and love, meaning he knew he had no say in her actions but he still worried and loved her very much because in every sense she was his child and he was more of a father to her than a brother ever, let's face it.
so i wanted her to kind of reach a point and i believe that point was season 6 where she stepped back and reflected on her actions before, which she did! i believe she made some great progress but i wanted her to also perhaps think about her brother and WHY he had to let go of her a bit but also WHY he acted the way he had all this time. I needed her to simply try to get his point of view.
i believe that O as a character was possible of this. why? because from the beginning she's been willing to see other points of views, other stances-like the grounders, Lincoln's, L/exas as a leader, the mountain people and frankly she has usually made good estimates about certain situations meaning-she knew L/incoln wasn't a bad grounder, she realized Indra is a badass but not an asshole and she could see why L/exa wasn't the best leader despite her great efforts, just as she could see why the Mountain was wrong-so I knew she could do that.
I think that frankly they just chose the easier way out.
Which was for her to go through this storyline with H/ope with D/iyoza.
And on the other hand I don't mind that either because the truth remains that until you do have your *OWN* child you cannot FULLY understand what this all means. From that aspect I can get it, you know?
I think on the other hand what makes O such an interesting character too-she doesn't relly as heavily on feelings as Bellamy does. Bellamy goes full heart, he just spills all his love out and gathers the pieces of his own heart-he doesn't care if he'll get it broken, in fact, he knows he probably will and that is part of his self-destruction too and why that is so sad and fucked up for his character.
O is the absolutely opposite-she guards her heart, she goes to extremes to do so, she's badass and she wants to just be strong, keep going, be independed and deep down find a home, that is her big dillema really, that she doesn't have one.
She had her mom and brother but that got ruined right? Then she had L/incoln and he died and then she had nothing...until H/ope and D/iyoza.
Why?
Because it is in a way a replica of her own family-Doesn't anyone see the similarities between D/iyoza and A/urora in a way as strong motherly figures? Then O as Bellamy and Hope as herself?
Perhaps the only way to find her home was to create a new family of her own. I think maybe that is why Bellamy and her as fucked up as it is and as much as I hate it, never had their goodbyes.
But that's for another meta.
So yes, I do believe that the only way she could truly understand bell is to just go through what he did and she experienced that even if ...I believe in less dire cirumstances and at a much more mature age.
O loves deeply and passionately too, just as bell but she chooses who to open her heart to while bell just adopts everyone and wants to take care of everyone O is not like this-she is careful and she has every reason to.
And for that reason I can see both sides of the debate.
Personally I prefer if she didn't have to go through that to just get her brother.
But I understand on the other hand why she had to.

Mom-Friend Looking For A Dad-Friend - Part 1
Summary: Saru x chubby!reader in which you are Sylvia Tilly’s older sister, (Y/N) Tilly. You are a therapist on the USS Discovery and the ship’s resident mom-friend. Your little sister thinks it’s about time her Starfleet parents finally hooked up. (Title is based off of my Hinge profile)
(Y/N)’s POV
You were settling into your office on the USS Discovery, situated just down the hall from the med bay. It was small but cozy and would only get cozier once you unpacked your plants and little trinkets from home. Once the doors were closed behind you, you set your box of mementos down and took a moment to take in the room. Making sure that the doors are closed, you take a moment to squeal and pump your fists in the air. It’s quite unprofessional for a lieutenant commander, but you’ve never had a whole office to yourself before.
Apparently the ship’s former captain, Gabriel Lorca, never felt the need for counselors or therapists, which you thought was horrible and inconsiderate. But when your own captain, Captain Pike, announced that he was transferring temporarily to head the Discovery, he had requested you accompany him to be the ship’s temporary counselor. He didn’t go into much detail for “security reasons,” but he felt that the crew would benefit from your services and your motherly nature.
It also helped that your baby sister was an ensign on the ship.
Your little celebratory moment was ruined by the sound of your doors opening. You froze, imagining the captain or some high-ranking commander walking in on your moment of unprofessionalism. Honestly, this was not a reflection of your normally responsible self and as you turned slowly around, you were running through in your mind exactly how you would defend yourself. Until you saw the familiar red and wild hair of your sister.
You run forward and envelop her in a hug, relishing the feel of a familiar body pressed against yours. You have been so worried for her while you were away on the Enterprise and she was off fighting a war. Not a day went by that you didn’t dread the idea of getting the message from your mother that she was gone. But now she’s here, safe and sound in your arms where you can protect her, like you always have. You were so wrapped up in fussing over your sister that you didn’t even notice the incredibly tall man watching you both fondly from the doorway until he cleared his throat.
“Oh! Oh right.” Sylvia steps to the side with her arm stretched, literally presenting the tallest and... cutest man you had ever seen. Immediately you were entranced by the ridges of his face and his eyes. Oh dear Lord those eyes.
“Commander, this is my sister, (Y/N). (Y/N), this is Commander Saru. He was my sponsor to the command program and was--”
“Previously acting Captain, yes. Captain Pike filled me in.” You step forward and extend your hand to him. You try really, really hard not to shiver when his fingers engulf your palm and hold it securely. You feel so small in front of him -- which is rare for you, your past boyfriends made it a point to constantly bring up your largeness -- but your hand fits perfectly in his like two puzzle pieces finding each other. It’s as thrilling as it is frightening.
“I’m Doctor (Y/N) Tilly. It’s very nice to meet you, Commander.”
“It is a pleasure to meet you, as well, Doctor.” Oh he was such a gentleman.
Saru’s POV
Saru was expecting another Sylvia Tilly, when said ensign insisted that he come meet her sister. And because he was so fond of the tenacious girl, he allowed her to all but pull him through the halls towards an office just off of the med bay.
“I just have a feeling that you two will really like each other,” she was telling him as they approached the doors. “She’s so kind and sweet. She was basically the mom I always wanted which was nice considering the mom we did have was--” As she rambled, Saru just nodded his head and mentally prepared himself to engage in some pleasantries and then a quick return to the bridge for a meeting with Captain Pike. He was honestly in a somewhat sour mood after having the captaincy stolen from him, even if he knew it was going to be temporary anyway. Hey, a Kelpien can dream.
What he was not expecting was the sight of quite literally the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. But there she was, hugging her sister tightly and soundly in a very cramped office filled with boxes of plants and flowers. And when you took his hand and grinned up at him, he felt his heart soar and a tingling in his limbic system. He could stand in the glow of your smile for hours and so desperately wanted to know what a hug from you felt like. Probably like being home. He had to restrain his arm from reaching out for you after you had pulled away from the handshake. He was completely and utterly hooked on you.
Sylvia seemed to notice, because she shot him a devious grin at the sight of what he was now realizing was his own love sick smile. Really, you have to be more professional, he scolded. But you’re chatting happily away with your sister while unloading your plants, cradling each adorable pot like a mother carries her child. Alright, professionalism be damned, he knew he needed to be next to you every moment for the rest of your lives.
On Kaminar, Kelpien life expectancies were uncertain but undeniably short, which meant that when decisions about family, friends, children had to be instinctual. And while Saru knew that he was safe from that life, that he was far more secure than anyone from back home could have ever hoped for, he still felt those same instincts. He felt them for Michael and Captain Georgiou and Sylvia and now here you were, the sight of you creating a piercing, knowing feeling deep in his gut.
You struggled to hang one of your plants on the highest shelf behind your desk. Just as you were about to pull out your spinny chair and use it as a stool, Saru quickly made his way over so he could hover over you.
“May I?” He was genuinely nervous that you would say no and he’s not quite sure why. But this was important, this offering of help and for care. You gave him a toothy grin and carefully transferred the plant from your hands into his large, awaiting ones.
“Thank you, Commander. This is my String of Hearts and she likes to be up high.” Saru didn’t bat an eye at the fondness you held for the plant, rather he was quite familiar with the love you felt for them.
“It’s really no trouble. I too have quite the collection back in my quarters.”
“Really?”
“Yes, they are mostly plants from my home world, although I have collected quite a few species from visits to other planets.”
“Maybe you could show my sister some time, Commander!” Sylvia’s voice, really it’s more like a yelp, interrupts you both. You were eyeing her strangely while Saru tried his best to signal her with his widened eyes, stop, please with a hint of what are you planning. Sylvia just grinned widely and devilishly at them both.
“If, um, you don’t mind Commander, I would be happy to have lunch with you sometime to discuss our plant babies,” you offered slowly, your voice soft and hopeful. Oh, oh, he definitely wanted to have lunch with you. Was today too soon? Probably. Okay, calm down Saru, she’s not going to disappear.
Third Person POV
Four Months Later
Sylvia was just absolutely ecstatic that her plan was working. When she had started getting closer to Saru during the way, started seeing his paternal nature and his unmeasured empathy towards others, her mind had immediately thought of her darling sister. How you were just as nurturing as him and cared about everyone, how you were so caught up with loving others that you very rarely had time to meet anyone who loved you just as deeply. How the only two boyfriends you had ever had were complete assholes who took your tenderness for granted and only gave you criticism for return. How you were so hesitant to fall in love again and how she was absolutely sure that Saru was made for you and vice versa. So as soon as you stepped onto the ship, Sylvia begged and bothered Saru to come welcome you until he finally agreed. And oh is he glad he agreed.
From that day on you and Saru became practically inseparable. Saru made it his mission to be near you every second possible and you found yourself quite taken with the impossibly sweet man. Which was unusual, you had built this thick wall around your heart after your last relationship ended. But Saru just wormed his way past your guard with his gentle smiles and thoughtfulness. You would spend every meal together, talking about your plants, your favorite books and music. He had even started teaching you some basics in some of the many languages he knew. You don’t know why, but knowing about his profound knowledge of languages made you fall even harder for him.
Everyone on the ship seemed to realize that you were made for each other, too. There were bets made about when you would get together, whispers about ships through the halls. The drama over when Discovery’s mom-friend and dad-friend would make it official was a welcomed respite from the stresses of their mission to find the Red Angel.
But the turning point for you was one night when you were completely swamped with patient notes and analysis. You had just messaged Saru letting him know that you had to skip your dinner plans to finish your work. You were quite disappointed, you hadn’t missed a dinner with him in the four months of your friendship and you lived for your conversations with him. It was just so comfortable and he made you feel so heard. But tonight you were looking at a sad, late night meal in your quarters after you were exhausted from staring at PADDs all day. At least, you thought so, until your door opened mere minutes after you had messaged Saru. In walked this precious man, carrying your favorite soup and a cup of coffee on a tray, along with some tea and salad for himself.
“Just because we can’t have dinner in the cafeteria, doesn’t mean we can’t have dinner together.” He gave you a shy look as he set the tray down in front of you and took a seat on the other side of your desk. Honestly your heart felt like it was about to burst from your chest. He was a dream, a lovely and beautiful dream.
“Saru I... Thank you.” You set your PADD down and decided that maybe a short break couldn’t hurt.
“You are most welcome, (Y/N). I couldn’t bear the thought of you not eating a proper meal.”
“Is this potato leak soup?” Saru nodded, pleased with himself.
The two of you ate silently for a while as you continued your work. Saru was quite content in watching you. It was quiet moments like this where he would take in everything he loved about you besides your mind and wit. The soft curl of your hair, the way your eyebrows creased as you read, or the bright (e/c) of your eyes. His eyes very slowly trail down, when you aren’t flashing the occasional smile at him, to take in his other favorite part about you. Saru -- and he gets incredibly embarrassed when he thinks of you like this because he is a gentleman through and through -- just really loves your body. In a totally not creepy way, he is obsessed with how small and soft you are compared to him. He still has dreams about the first time you hugged him and the feeling of his arms around your plush waist holding you close.
“All done,” you announce with a sigh. Saru snaps his eyes from where they were lingering on your collar bone back up to you. He throws on his most innocent smile, trying to pretend he wasn’t just fantasizing about wrapping his body around your own.
“Thank you again. I’m sure this is not how you wanted to spend your evening, sitting in silence while I just work away.”
“Nonesense.” He pauses, debating his next words. “Any time spent with you is time well spent.”
You bite your tongue for a moment, wondering if you should let slip the words you so desperately wanted to bestow upon him. Would he think you’re being too forward? Would he think you were flirting with him? I mean, you did want to flirt with him, and hug him and kiss him and rub your hands down his-- woah, calm down, (Y/N), he’s right there.
“Still,” you start, deciding to take a big risk. “It was incredibly sweet of you. I’ve never had anyone bring me dinner before.” Saru beams and fills his heart swell at the praise, but his joy stalls at that one offhand comment.
“Never?” Honestly, he was curious. You had never mentioned past relationships before and he was secretly dying to know if he was even someone you would consider for a romantic relationship.
You take a deep breath, “I mean, I’ve only ever had two boyfriends in the past and neither were that... thoughtful. Well, at first they were. But over time they both ended up being a bit too self-centered, a bit too critical.”
Saru feels like his cup is about to break in his grip. How could anyone be so cruel to you, so unappreciative, so blind?
You bow your head, worried you might have divulged too much but Saru leans forward and takes one of your hands into his. His thumb rubs your knuckles and immediately your past relationships and the sad memories they dredge up vanish. As if there was no one before him, as if there was always just Saru.
“If you don’t mind me being so forward, it is their loss. (Y/N), you are a wonder, anyone who cannot see that or appreciate that is a fool and does not deserve you.” He’s staring at you incredibly intensely, his lovely eyes trying to convey all the adoration he feels for you, his desire to see you cared for as you deserve.
Your eyes shine and you don’t even think. You just stand and round your desk, engulfing Saru in a hug before he can rise to meet you or he can see the tears in your eyes. Your body folds perfectly into his as his arms wrap securely around your waist. In this position your heads are level, and he uses this opportunity to slightly nestle his head against your neck and shoulder. He hopes he’s being inconspicuous. He also hopes you’re getting the message, that he is absolutely smitten with you.

My new cat | j.w
Non idol! ateez, gn reader
TW: mentions of d**th, cats (?)
Word count: 1.8k
A/N: My first piece in tumblr, my writing feels shitty but oh well :(
Tumblr media
Wooyoung, your first love, probably your last too. The short relationship with him had been filled with kisses of all types: passionate, cute and innocent, aggressive, and apologetic. You can still feel the last kiss you shared. What hurts the most is that neither of you knew it would be your last.
The tears escaped your eyes for days until you there were no more left to shed; the constant pain in your chest, the emptiness hurt, the silence in your home was deafening. You needed a distraction, something that could fill the void in your heart and home, even though you knew that whatever you decided for, it would never be as loud and filling as Wooyoung. For once his screaming and excited squeals were missed, the pain you felt when he shouted in your ear long gone; you could only hope one day something could bring you that happy pain again.
~~~~~~~~~~
   "A cat? I don't know Lia, I want a loud animal, I need a strong distraction, cats are too independent, don't you think?"
  "You're delusional, cats are responsible yet caring, you just need to remain open and let the cat choose you not the other way around. Or you could pick up the first cat you see and have a little demon to accompany you, it wouldn't be too different from Woo, would it?"
You sigh, you don't know whether to laugh or be angry at her, however, she was just trying to remind you of the everyday Woo you fell in love with. You were scared of forgetting him, forgetting your life together.
  "A cat will do I guess" you give up, Lia was as stubborn as Wooyoung, you would never win.
~~~~~~~~~~
"You have a cat!" An excited San rushed past your front door to get his hands on Mew Mew.
"This ailurophile I swear to god," A tired Hongjoong said while hugging you, shaking his head in disapproval before he shouts "leave the cat alone, we would like to make it out with no scratches!"
"Sorry about them Y/n, you know how they are, an obsessed man and a cocky one who doesn’t miss the chance to show off his vocabulary” Seonghwa engulfs you in a big cozy hug and you hadn't felt so warm in months, his motherly nature really was a blessing.
Meow you feel something stepping on your feet and scratching your legs.
  "Mew Mew? Need something baby?"
To say your cat was demanding was an understatement, your cat was the clingiest one in the entire universe, it reminded you of Wooyoung constantly, and although at first, it hurt, you started to feel glad that you could remember him without feeling so much sorrow. You were at peace with his absence, most of the time.
"Hello Mew Mew, I'm Mingi" Your sunfish best friend saluted the cat in your arms, from the corner of your eye you see Hongjoong’s left eye twitching at the action thinking how come no one respects me like that?
"Step aside, I want to pet him," Yunho softly pushes Mingi and extends his giant arm to pet your companion "wait! Mew Mew is a boy, right? Omg, I might have misgendered your pet, I'm so sorry Mew Mew!" he starts bowing in apologies and the tips of his ears turn red in nervousness.
"Calm down, he's a boy, no one is misgendering anyone" You snatch Mew Mew from Yeosang who had quietly coaxed the cat into going to his arms.
"Hey! That's my best friend!" He exclaims with the most adorable pout you had seen on him. Without you noticing, the boys glare at Yeosang to shut him up. You didn't know yet, and you might never know, it's up to your one functioning brain cell to get a hint, but even that could take a few lifetimes.
Jongho walks to the couch while humming, his unbothered persona balances the room, a moment of silence settles to appreciate his vocal cords, that is until Yunsan start bickering about what movie they'll watch.
All of you are now spread out in the living room, some laying on the couch, others on the floor over tons of blankets, while Seonghwa decided to take two chairs for Hongjoong and him. They really are like grandmas you think.
~~~~~~~~~~
  "Thank you for this wonderful evening Y/n" Hongjoong reaches out for you to hold you against his chest, the warmth coming out of him reminding you how grateful you are for still being alive, lucky to be surrounded by so many bright and warm stars.
  "It was my pleasure having you all here for the day, I missed you guys a lot," You say after letting go of Hongjoong "I also wanted you to meet Mew Mew, especially you, Sannie"
  "Thank you, I loved spending time with him" San shows a blinding smile while muttering an imperceptible again.
  "Life is a special gift Y/n, we're glad you are making the best of it" Jongho pulls you into a hug, you quickly melt in his embrace until you realise what you're doing. You could only remember being hugged by him four times, his arms feel like ambrosia, healing the last broken bits of your heart.
~~~~~~~~~~
While washing the dishes, you see a brown-black fluffy ball jumping up the counter and walking towards your busy arms. "I can't hold you right now Mew Mew" you reject him softly, the cat is stubborn and climbs up your arms to your shoulders, settling himself there with his tail going behind your neck to give warmth to your other shoulder.
You scoff, what a clingy cat you got, but at least you're reminded that you're loved, "I love you too, baby" you reassure him and he purrs in return. Pleased with your affection and warmth, he rubs his head against your neck.
~~~~~~~~~~
   "Wooyoung! Stop pretending to be tired and help me with the table please"
Not receiving an answer back you frown, about to call for him again, reality slaps you in the face. Wooyoung is gone. However, before any tears slip down your cheeks, your new companion purrs and jumps up the table, he sits down beside a used napkin and looks directly at your eyes. While the time you spent with your cat felt like years, it had only been a few months. His constant affection made you forget he wasn't a human, and sometimes it was hard to believe a cat was so loyal and tuned in to your emotions than your own therapist.
Looking into your cat's eyes always led you down a rabbit hole full of love and gratefulness, however, this time was different, looking into his cat eyes you could see emotions you had never felt in him before, very human emotions in your opinion. Mew Mew seemed to be sorry, "don't pity me now Mew Mew, I'm not delusional, I just forgot for a sec". The cat meowed and jumped in your arms, that was when you had a crazy idea.
  "Yeosang! Hi, I'm sorry are you too busy right now? Ok, what about the boys, can they come over for a bit too? Perfect, thank you!" You look at the cat that now sleeps soundly over your piano. He's still as cute as you remember him.
~~~~~~~~~~
"What's the matter Y/n? We were worried you called so suddenly" Yeosang throws himself at you, hugging you while checking for injuries.
"I'm alright, don't worry. Come, let's sit down, ok?"
The room is quiet, and the only thing you can hear is the soft snores coming from the impostor laying shamelessly on your piano. Your eyes naturally drift towards him and a smile is painted across your face without you intending to.
"He's Wooyoung, isn't he?" The question makes every man in the room panic, the person in question quickly jumps off the piano and runs towards your lap.
"Well, it's not like you're not allowed to know. We just weren't expecting you to catch up so quickly" San says while reaching out to caress the cat and whine something about broken agreements and betrayals.
"Now I understand why you called him your best friend," Yeosang's cheeks are dusted with a fluffy pink colour, “at the time I was so immersed in my pain that I forgot that you all were hurting too. For that I'm sorry."
"Your connection to him was different, you were kind of left alone but we still had each other" Hongjoong reassures you while taking your hand in his.
"That's why he decided to stay with you, not us. San had seen him in the street a few days after Woo passed, he brought him back home of course," Seonghwa rolls his eyes at the memory, even though his face fails to show any annoyance at San's actions, "after spending time with the cat we felt like Woo was still with us, Yeosang and San realised first, after all, they were the closest to Woo back then. We started calling for Wooyoung and the cat would always respond, he would look at us like he knew what we were asking for."
Without you noticing, there are tears running down your cheeks and wetting Wooyoung on your lap. The feeling of knowing that you didn't lose him forever was unexplainable, a mixture of relief and sadness because it took you so long to understand your cat's affection.
"It might take you a bit to get used to having him with you again, especially as a cat, but we know you love Mew Mew nearly as much as you love Wooyoung, so don't think you're going crazy at some point, because you're not" Jongho softly states with his signature gummy smile and Mingi pats your head.
"We're glad you're back" Mingi whispers to Wooyoung, and the latter purrs at Mingi in response while wagging his tail playfully against his thigh, the usual gestures he did as a human.
~~~~~~~~~~
  "Woo wake up! Time for lunch!" Your voice bounced off the walls, and in a matter of seconds, you heard the rushed steps of the boy (technically cat) in question. Excited sounds coming out of him.
Once you settle your plate, drink, and cutlery on the table you look at the cat who was staring at you, pretending not to be tempted by the food on the table. Glaring at him playfully and doing a motion saying that you're watching him, you go back to the kitchen for his food, and once his plate is set next to the wall, you sit down and start to eat, however you're interrupted by hissing.
  "You're hissing at me? How dare you, little brat!" Wooyoung hisses again and proceeds to push his plate with his snout, "ok I'm kidding baby, come up here" You take the plate and place it on the table so you both can eat together. Your cat is bratty.
~~~~~~~~~~
"I love you baby, thank you for coming back to us, back to me" Your cat purrs and snuggles into your chest, rubbing his body softly against your shirt to keep his smell there. Your cat is clingy.
I'm happy to be back with you Y/n

Snapetober
Here is my participation #4: Day 8 Secret Injury.
You can also find it on AO3.
So, this is a little interlude in the universe of my current WIP "That Awful Snape Boy" (you can of course find it on AO3 too). I'm not sure it actually fits anywhere in the timeline of the main fic but it's like a mini-AU in the same world.
For those who are not reading it: basically, McGonagall ends up adopting Severus at the beginning of his 3rd years at Hogwarts. It's a long road for them, a difficult one but also full of love and care. This little moment would fit during their first summer holiday together.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Severus was trying to keep up with his guardian, fighting against the heavy limp he was now sporting. Damn leg! Minerva was pretty far away, zigzagging between the shop's aisles at what seemed to Severus like lightening speed. How could this woman move that fast?
She had taken him on an impromptu outing that morning, seemingly out of nowhere. While he admitted now that he enjoyed spending time with Minerva, he had been in pain all night, and anyway: shopping was definitely taking it a little too far… He had tried to stay at the cottage, but she was adamant that she wouldn't leave him alone for a whole day like that. Severus had replied that he was left alone at his parent's for days on end since he was three: it didn't seem to placate her… the suggestion only putting that little spark of anger in her eyes, as it often was the case when his biological parents were discussed.
Apparently, even fourteen years old were not to be left alone for that long? Severus thought she was being a little extreme with this: Lily and Petunia sometimes spent the whole day alone in the summer when both their parents had to work!
He tried not to look too much into his feeling that this was linked to the little sad moods he had been experiencing lately. She was worried about him and he felt like trash because of it. Why couldn't he just be happy? What more did he need seriously? He was a pathetic, ungrateful piece of garbage. A useless worm.
The pain flared up suddenly and, giving up, he stopped behind a jackets' display to let his leg rest a little. This was going to be a long day…
He only had himself to blame for this one, as usual. The day before, he had been running on the Scottish beach near the cottage – just enjoying the fresh hair, the calming music of the sea and the freedom of it all – when he had stepped on a treacherous rolling stone and twisted his knee quite badly. It had hurt like Hell at the time. Severus remembered having literally seen a white flashing light for a moment at the intensity of the pain. However, after having taken some tentative steps in the sand, it was still hurting of course but not as much and not to the point where he could not walk at all (he admitted now that it had been quite worse after having rested his knee all night unfortunately).
He had felt really bad about it, somewhat guilty too. It was like the universe was trying to remind him than freaks like him didn't deserve the mindless fun of a run on a beautiful, deserted, white-sanded Scottish beach. Those things weren't for disgusting kids like him, what had he been thinking?
To be honest, it was only mid-July and this first summer holiday with Minerva was already surreal. He had a room here too, to his stupefaction since he wasn't aware at all that she had made any preparation before they came together to spend the summer here, and hot chocolate was offered even more frequently than during the school year.
Severus, however, felt somewhat unsettled by it all. Everything was… weird? He didn't feel like he should have those things, like Minerva's kindness was deserved on his part. He also had moments when he just felt… empty? Sad? Like nothing really mattered and everything was just grey and not worth it. It was scary and it had been sapping his energy in waves since the start of the holidays. Without school to distract him from it, it was suddenly worse than it had been all year.
All of that made it even more critical that he didn't end up bothering Minerva with again another thing that would add to her already worried state. He just felt like she would be so much better without the like of him really… He was the worse thing that had ever happened to her.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
The boy had been quiet all day, moody even. Minerva had tried to ask him what shop he had wanted to do next – it was after all his first outing in an all-wizards town in the Outer Hebrides – but she didn't seem to be able to have him engaged with their little trip.
It was a shame since it had been an excuse for just that in the first place. She was so worried about him… He had been moody, withdrawn and quite frankly sad since the beginning of the holidays and even his obvious joy at discovering the cottage and the magnificent scenery of her Harris' cottage didn't last very long.
Minerva sighed. The day had been a failure in the end…  they were making their way back to the isolated little cottage, walking in the fine sand on the beach, with a magnificent sunset in the background; and yet their hearts were as heavy as the silence between them.
She turned her head to make sure Severus was still following her – he had been lagging behind all day – when she suddenly caught him grimacing in pain, his left leg giving way beneath him before he caught himself and tried to speed up with a set expression on his little face.
"Severus Snape, you stop where you are young man!", she said to him at once, alarmed.
Startled, Severus stopped in his tracks and looked at her with that worried expression of his, making her heart hurt for him once again. She felt like her anger at his parents was never going to fade away. Her anger at herself too, for not having seen, for not having stopped this three years before, when she first saw the scrawny first year entering the Great Hall for the first time. Too small, too thin, too intense and crafty for a child his age. How could they have missed it? That question was never going to stop haunting her.
The boy was looking at her, directly into her eyes with that defiant expression that used to infuriate her but that she knew now was just his way of being scared, and said nothing, waiting for whatever was going to fall on his head this time – there always was way too much resignation in his expression.
"Is your leg hurting, Severus?", she asked softly, using her newfound "motherly voice" in an attempt to reassure him that he wasn't in trouble at all. This script between them was certainly getting old.
"It's nothing, I can deal with it."
"It doesn't seem like it's nothing when it's making you limp and stumble like that. It looks painful too. What did you do?", Minerva asked, worried.
"It's nothing, really… just… I twisted my knee a little yesterday, I won't do it again I promise, please, don't be mad at me?"
"Oh, Severus. How many times do I have to tell you that I won't be mad at you for things that are outside of your power. Come here child, let me see."
She wanted to hug him tight, that smart, broken child; but she knew that he still wasn't always comfortable with physical manifestations of affection so she refrained herself.
Looking sheepish, he limped towards her, looking at his feet, like a criminal having been caught red-handed.
"Sit on the sand Severus, and pull your trouser leg above your knee please, I want to see what we're dealing with here."
And as often, he did just that. Minerva was still quite taken by surprise by this… and they all thought that he was a model of insolence just a year ago… The child was in reality quite mild on a teenager's antics scale. Or maybe she knew how to handle him now?
She crouched before him, her back protesting at once, and looked at his injury closely. His poor knee was blue and swollen, very painful looking. How on earth had he been able to walk on that all day was beyond her.
"Severus, child, why didn't you tell me? This is a pretty bad sprain I think… I won't be able to treat it right away… but really, you're not walking another foot on this, that's for sure."
"But…"
"No buts. I will cast a feather-light charm on you and carry you to the cottage. I should have some Every-Day-Destrainer-Cream there. Would that be alright?"
"Yes… but you don't have to, I can walk, we're nearly there anyway."
"This isn't a negotiation! What's the first rule for living with me, Severus?"
He looked suddenly annoyed, making her smile fondly, that for once so common manifestation of teenage rebellion at the prospect of any discussion about house rules was comforting. Her whole guardian experience was so backwards… Worried when her child was quiet, happy when he was being a reluctant teenager.
"I'm not allowed to do anything dangerous or that can hurt me in any way."
"Exactly! Now, don't move", Minerva did the wand gesture, casting the spell non-verbally on her young charge, "and it's done!"
They looked a little silly, the middle-aged witch carrying the gangly adolescent on her back towards their little cottage. Minerva certainly didn't mind.
That silly, moody child was not going to be in pain anymore, she sweared it. She was going to heal him, and not just the knee, damn it.

Mini Fanfic #564: Protective Ice Mother (Persona 3/Persona 4 Arena)
8:56 p.m. at the S.E.E.S. Main Lobby.....
Labrys: (Sighs Relaxingly While Snuggling onto Teddie Under a Blanket on a Sofa)
Teddie: (Giggles Softly) Goodness, Labby-chan~ Did you really miss seeing me that beary much?~
Labrys: (Giggles Softly) Ya bet your cute butt I do~ (Gives Teddie a Playful Smirk) Plus, you being my handsome Teddie-Bear is all the more reasons this momma needs to give you some lovin'~ (Begins to Lovingly Kisses Teddie's Cheek)
Teddie: (Giggles Ticklishly) Labby-chan!~ Your lovely kisses are already tickling me!~
???: ('Ahem')
The two couple immediately stop what they're doing and look up and see that it was none other than Mitsuru Kirijo staring down at them in her usual stoic, motherly fashion.
Teddie: (Starting to Get a bit Nervous) Oh! M-M-Ms. Mitsuru-Senpai! Hello!
Labrys: Hey, Senpai. What's up?
Mitsuru: (Arm Are Already Crossed) Oh it's nothing in particular. I'm only here to make sure you two have nice, formal date night with one another this evening. As well as making sure neither of you do anything I would not approve on.
Labrys: (Rolled Her Eyes in a bit of Annoyance) Honestly, senpai. We're not doing any funny business here! We're only cuddling.
Mitsuru: Yes. And while cuddling with one another is nice and all, it could also lead into something different completely if not careful. Something you two aren't clearly old enough to do just yet.
Labrys: ('Ugggh') We know that already, senpai! All that 'birds and the bees' junk we learned in class. We ain't born yesterday, ya know?
Mitsuru: I'm already aware of that, Labrys, but there's nothing entirely wrong with giving you another reminder of that fact. Speaking of which.....(Turns to Teddie)
Teddie: (Immediately Gave Mitsuru her Attention) Y-Y-Yes, Ms. Mitsuru Senpai?
Mitsuru: (Took a Bit of a Deep Breath Before Speaking) Teddie, I just want to let you know that I never have any negative feelings towards you whatsoever. Labrys has already told me how much of a kind and considerate person you are and I firmly believe that fact.
Teddie: (Genuinely Surprised by Mitsuru's Words) Oh....I....(Smiles a Little) Thank you, Ms. Mitsuru-Senpai. I believe you and everyone else in this organization are beary good people too.
Mitsuru: (Simply Nodded) Thank you. However.....
Teddie: Hm?
Mitsuru: (Gives Teddie a Cold Piercing Glare) It would be a very huge shame to execute a kind young man like yourself if you were to ever....break those boundaries.
Teddie: (Immediately Gets Scared Again by Yelping in Fear) T-T-That's would never ever ever ever happen, Senpai!! I-I-I love Labby-chan with all of my heart!! I would never hurt her o-or make her sad or cry!! She means sooooo beary much to me! Please, senpai, you gotta believe meeeee!
Mitsuru: (Gently Pats on Teddie's Head to Calm him Down a Little) And I do believe you, Teddie. All of us here do. I only wanted to make sure we are on the same page on this matter.....(Gives Teddie a Small Cold Glare) We are on the same page here, right?
Teddie: (Nodded Rapidly in Fear) Yes ma'am! I understand it completely! Definitely on the same page!
Labrys: (Glares at Mitsuru) For God sake, Mitsuru-Senpai! Stop scarin' my boyfriend already!
Mitsuru: ('Sigh') Alright Alright. I suppose I said all I need to be said for one night. (Walks Away From the Couple) I'll be taking my leave now. Enjoy the rest of the evening, you two. (Turns Around and Points at Labrys) But not too much fun. Do you understand?
Labrys: ('Sigh') Yes, ma'am.....
Mitsuru: (Smiles in a Satisfied Manner) Good. Have a goodnight you two. (Walks Away)
Labrys: You too.....(I swear....I know Senpai means well, but she is taking this whole 'Momma Bird' role to the extreme sometimes....) (Turns Back to her Teddie-Bear Right Next to Her) You okay, 'hon?
Teddie: ('Sighs in Complete Relief') Yeah.....I think so....I almost forgot how scary Mitsuru-Senpai really is on her bad side.......
Labrys: Aww.....C'mere you. (Gently Pulls Teddie into a Loving Hug) It's okay. Momma's here to make ya feel all better. (Kiss Teddie on the Cheek) Promise.
Teddie: (Smiles Softly While Blushing) Thank you. I'm sorry for being scardy-bear a while ago...
Labrys: Don't worry about it. We all know how terrifying Mitsuru-Senpai is. Hell, even I'm scared her sometimes and I have an axe. Also.....(Smiles Softly) I already know for a fact that you love me to pieces, Ted.
Teddie: Of course I do, Labby-chan. You're my princess knight in shining armor~ My world even~
Labrys: (Smiles Brightly) And you're my sweet, handsome Teddie-Bear, whom I'm gonna love and cuddle all night~ (Begins Kissing Teddie while Cuddling with Him Under a Blanket)
Teddie: (Giggles Softly by the Kiss) Labby-chan!~ That still tickles!~
Labrys: Damn right it does!~
Meanwhile in the Kitchen......
Ken: Honest, Senpai. Did you really have to scare Teddie like that?
Mitsuru: (Simply Sipping on her Tea) I'm afraid so, Ken-Kun. I had to take my role as a 'Mother Hen' as serious as possible. Surely you would know that by now.
Ken: ('Sigh') Okay. So..... Hypothetically speaking, if I were to ever date a girl and bring her back here on a date, would you act the exact same way as you did to Teddie?
Mitsuru: Yes I would.
Ken: (Eyes Widened in Shocked) Seriously?!
Mitsuru: Yes seriously. (Gently Ruffles the top of Ken's Hair) You are my baby boy, Ken-Kun, and as such, it is my job to make sure that the person you are going out with treats you with the upmost respect and care. Understand?
Ken: (Rolled his Eyes While Blushing a Little) Uh-huh.......
Mitsuru: Don't think I didn't notice you rolling eyes at me, young man. We raised you better than that.
Ken: ('Sighs in Defeat') Yes, ma'am. I'm sorry.

Hi Bye, Mama!
*With spoilers
Mama. The whole drama revolved around this important character of our lives, mother. From the first episode to the very last, it was all about the decisions made by mothers, the actions made by mothers, that created this 16-episodes long drama. And they are not talked about much enough.
Tumblr media
My favourite of all the main mothers is no doubt Minjeong. I've talked about what I wanted to say in my first review blog but I still feel that I have more.
A strong woman who willingly gave up her life for her crush, her love for Ganghwa, to a broken man and a motherless child who wasn't hers to begin with. She did her very best to not let Seowoo grow up in a broken family, and not let Ganghwa live on his life alone.
My favourite episode of hers is definitely episode 10; your place where I cannot reach. This title applied to both the mothers, Minjeong and Yuri. For Minjeong, we saw that ever since she opened her eyes in her daily life, it was Seowoo. Everything was Seowoo. She wasn't even able to have a proper cup of coffee; before she could, Seowoo was already crying for attention.
While taking Seowoo to the daycare, Minjeong was dressed sloppily; her hair messily tied up, her clothes un-tucked, and just a baggy pair of pants enough to keep her from the cold. Whereas the other mothers were nicely dressed up with makeup and everything else. She gave up even herself, for a child that wasn't hers. It's motherly instinct, and she gave Seowoo everything she needs from a mother.
Beginning, as I said, I felt that Ganghwa married Minjeong just so Seowoo could grow up in a complete family, but it turned out that Ganghwa did love Minjeong, but not as much as Yuri and he was very much broken. As for Minjeong, yes she does love him, much more than he loves her. But as we saw that Minjeong sent Seowoo to all kinds of lessons and as those lessons took up lots of Seowoo's time, Minjeong was left with no time to play with her. And I just felt, Minjeong was just purely fulfilling her normal motherly duties without going the extra miles to let Seowoo have a good time.
In that episode, as her monologue said, she thought all her effort will be able to move things to the way she wanted, but with her sloppy looks, as she walked away from the daycare after dropping Seowoo off, those nasty mothers were gossipping about her as they commented saying Seowoo doesn't look like her, and that she is just a stepmom. Just like what Minjeong said, is stepmom not a mom too? The name "stepmom" has the word "mom" too. What makes a stepmom no less than other moms?
Just cause she didn't go through the 10 months of having the baby in her? Just cause she didn't go through the pain of labour? Just cause she didn't go through the process of giving birth? She raised Seowoo up as her own, not making her any less than other children.
She had her divorce paper ready, as she felt locked out from Ganghwa's broken heart. She tried her best to let herself in, to help him treat his wounds. But as she said, she felt that she is in a home that had been bombed, and treating those cracks tired her.
The reason she said when Hyunjong asked her why did she stop her divorce, was that she loves Ganghwa too much. I doubt that was just it. Shortly after her divorce paper was ready, she took Seowoo to test for her growing process, which turned out to be slower than other children her age. Her motherly instinct probably stopped her from leaving this broken family. Quoting Yuri's words, she held onto the cactus Yuri created and didn't even realize she was bleeding herself.
She tried to care for her own wounds, but she put Seowoo first, she put this broken family that had been hurting her first. She just wanted Ganghwa to open that room in his heart, that he kept closed for her, even if he was willing to open to anyone else. Her, his wife. She didn't want to help to treat his wounds, she just wanted him to open up to her.
He finally was honest with his thoughts in front of her once, but that was after Minjeong learned about everything regarding Yuri. "Why are we having this conversation only now?" Even after knowing Yuri was going to leave, she wanted to carry on with her divorce. I'm grateful that she didn't in the end, be it because she felt it wasn't right to, or she wanted to protect what Yuri left behind.
Minjeong wasn't angry that Ganghwa and Yuri lied to her. Yes, it was too much for her to take in. One of the people in the world whom she treated as a best friend, is the biological supposedly-dead mom of the child she is raising. Who wouldn't be shocked? Though I felt that she shouldn't be the only one kept in the dark about the truth, she deserved to know just like everyone else.
Minjeong was sad, that she was going to loss a friend when Yuri was leaving. Even after Yuri told her about the truth, she asked if Yuri could just stay. If Yuri did stay, it meant that Minjeong will lose everything to her, everything she had for the last 5 years. Even if Minjeong was ready to give them up, Yuri having to leave means Minjeong could have them all back. But no, Minjeong didn't show any signs of happiness that Yuri was leaving, she wanted Yuri to stay. She cherished her so as a friend, she felt comfortable with someone else other than Ganghwa and Seowoo.
Minjeong, the kind-hearted angel sent from above to bless Seowoo and Ganghwa. Upon knowing Yuri's mom had been watching Seowoo from afar at the playground, she would bring Seowoo to that exact same location when Yuri's mom was there, just so Yuri's mom could take a look at her granddaughter. No conversation was needed; just two moms, each knowing each other's thoughts and feelings.
Thank goodness she was Seowoo's mom and Ganghwa's wife. She is too nice, too nice to be mean to. How could anyone want to hurt her? Just as Yuri said, even if she was greedy and would want her place back, how can she do it when the place was taken by Minjeong? She saw everything that Minjeong did for her Seowoo, she was grateful for it, and that 49 days was enough for her.
When Minjeong told Ganghwa that she will be leaving him, she was being considerate again that it tore my heart into pieces. She knew Ganghwa would want Yuri to get her place back so she could live. She herself would want Yuri to live too. But she knows Ganghwa won't be able to ask her to leave, so she did herself. It definitely broke her heart that Ganghwa didn't stop her when she said she'll leave, it just proved to her that she can never replace Yuri. She knows, Ganghwa knows, but this scene made it more obvious.
When I started this drama I thought to myself, if it's a happy ending, someone will not be included in this happy ending. I was greedy to wish for everyone to be in because, who is there not to love? But we all know, that is impossible.
And I am so glad that Minjeong was included. She deserved it, to be loved and to love.
Tumblr media
Yuri's mom, Jeon Eunsook. This actress was one of the main reason why I wanted to watch this drama. Every role she played in any dramas was amazing. And I knew this drama would be too with her as a cast, and it didn't prove me wrong.
The first time we saw her in the drama was when Yuri's family went to offer their prayers on her death anniversary, which cruelly coincided with Seowoo's birthday, and of course Ganghwa wouldn't be there to offer his prayers to remind himself of the pain he had been through, and was still going through.
As Yuri's family was cleaning up, Yuri's dad started crying again at Yuri's photo, which received criticism from her mom. But the next moment, Yuri's mom was in the toilet, sobbing to herself. I think that was enough for a half-bucket of tears?
As Ms Mi Dong quoted, "a woman who lost her husband is called a widow, a man who lost his wife is called a widower, and a kid who lost their parents is called an orphan, but there's no words to describe a parent who lost their kid. It's because there's no word to describe it, describe the excruciating pain." Can we imagine how much pain Yuri's mom went through? Just like the quote I used in my first blog, "I had her for 10 months, raised her for 30 years, and it's only going to take me 3 years to let her go?"
We all probably thought that she was going to the temple everyday to pray for her daughter's peace. But no, she prayed so hard just so she could see her daughter once again. She sobbed, saying she missed her daughter so, she just wanted to see her once again. She kept everything in Yuri's room as they were, just so she could feel that Yuri was really alive once. When she said that she remembered everything about Yuri, but one day she suddenly couldn't remember Yuri's voice, Yuri tried comforting her by saying voice is the first thing that human forgets. But we all know, that wouldn't be able to bring much comfort to Yuri's mom, as forgetting something about her child would scare her lots.
Yuri's 49 days as a human happened because of her, and I couldn't love this reason much more. When Yuri cried saying that her return was like a punishment and that it brought sorrow to the people around her, she forgot that how happy her own family was. How happy her mom was to have her back. The 49 days was said to be a gift to Yuri, but it was also a gift to Yuri's mom who prayed desperately for it.
Tumblr media
Cha Yuri, the main lead of this drama. Everyone have talked much about her so I'll just skip to the ending and my own thoughts about it.
Hi *Bye*, Mama! I wasn't very surprised that she was going to leave. But I would've been mad that Yuri would leave just like that, just cause she felt that there's no place for her anymore.
In the beginning, yes it felt that it would've been possible for her to get her place back. And when she finally said what she thought, that she wants to live, Ms Mi Dong just said, you've finally let it out, you've held it long enough. Yuri didn't want to express what she felt because it would hurt everyone she cared for; Ganghwa, Minjeong, Seowoo.
But upon knowing her life would be exchanged for her daughter's life, she instantly decided to leave. She found a life much more precious that her own; the life that she created with her own flesh and blood, her own daughter. She was willing to give up her own life just so her daughter would be able to live on in peace.
I love this painful plot twist. It isn't unnecessary, it drew a beautiful fullstop to this painful drama. Of course, a mother's sacrifice would be used as the ending. It just showed that there was no difference between Yuri and Minjeong; they both are mothers to Seowoo, and they both made sacrifices for their daughter.

사랑의 불시착 (crash landing on you)
genre: k-drama (romance)
what? i’m not writing about a book, but a k-drama? yeah. if there was ever a k-drama with a story and characters worthy enough to be reviewed as if it were a book, it would be this one. i’ve never cried harder watching the last three episodes of this show than i have for literally any other movie or tv show. and after watching the very last scene, i felt so… fulfilled. i’ve never cried harder, but i’ve also never been more fond of a cast and story. for once, each and every single character played an important role and had their own vivid personality that made the story so much richer. and i feel like you can’t say that about a lot—if any?—of the usual k-dramas. also, there are spoilers all over the place, so beware.
i didn’t realize this until recently, but i fall in immediate love with strong character-driven stories. and the characters were 1000% a huge factor of what drew me into this drama. i’m not only talking about the leads, but the side characters as well. there was not a single person out of place or unnecessary to the story. they all added their own unique little spark and made each scene all that more entertaining to watch. the five “avengers” (that’s what they’re nicknamed in korea heheh)? i love them to death. they are the MOST adorable little group and seeing how much they cared about jeonghyuk and seri made me feel all fuzzy inside. i loved seeing them on the screen. and the village ladies? even though they were a bit irritating in the beginning, they won me over soon enough with their cute little flirting and motherly habits. both groups were people that genuinely loved and cared for one another like family, related or not. and seeing that made me so, so happy. we don’t see enough of that wholesomeness enough nowadays. speaking of family. even though seri’s family pissed me off at the start (and of course we still despise sehyeong and his wife), i grew to be fond of her parents and sejun and his wife too. and i especially appreciated how the parents actually supported their kids instead of pushing them to follow the decisions of their elders. finally, the parents in a k-drama acknowledged that their children were adults with their own decision-making capabilities.
and may i SAY. seri’s character as the female lead was amazingly refreshing. what i’m used to seeing in a female lead is a poor or weak girl dependent on some rich heir or ceo of a company for her entire life’s needs. most dramas these days are moving away from that stereotype, but women still tend to be portrayed as the weaker sex. so what i absolutely adored about yoon seri is that she was a powerful woman in her own right. she created her own thriving company from the ground up with hardly any support from anyone, and definitely not from her own family. she had her own power and money and she knew how to use it. and when the drama shifted from taking place in north to south korea, we got to see her take care of those closest to her using her own means. also, she fucking took a bullet for her man. SHE, for HER MAN, took the bullet. where else have you seen that shit in a k-drama before? cuz i sure as hell haven’t. it’s always the man protecting his lady, which is good and all, but wow, i feel like i had some part of me vindicated when she selflessly went for that gunshot. and seo dan??? my QUEEN??????? we love that after pining after a guy for ten whole years, she finally found someone that helped her realized her own worth, which allowed herself to grow into her own person. see? it is possible to have TWO very strong, very beautiful, female leads in one very popular drama. take that, the extremely patriarchal society in south korea that’s been in power for generations.
let’s talk about love and how it brought out the best qualities in those that encountered it. let’s talk about selflessness. because that’s basically what love is, isn’t it? risking your own life time and time again because you’d rather take the fall than have your significant other suffer. because seeing them hurt is a thousand times worse than getting hurt yourself. and even when you ARE purposely hurting them (but hurting them in order to protect them, obviously), you just can’t let them completely out of sight or mind. i’ve never seen a more pure love depicted in these 16 episodes than i have my entire life, whether that be in books or the screen. they’d die for each other, time and time again, because of love. and that’s a pretty common theme in all dramas, korean or not, but something about the way neither of them spared a second thought about their own safety or wellbeing because the other person was too important to risk losing, just made me sob fat tears over and over and over. the way they’d do anything, ANYTHING for each other, just to ensure the other’s happiness, just completely ripped me apart. when jeonghyuk said to seri that seeing her in the interrogation room was a pain for him, forcing her to leave, and then immediately sprinting out of the room when he heard that she collapsed, had me in literal pieces. the same for when he would not leave the window when she was undergoing treatment for sepsis. ESPECIALLY WHEN HE STEPPED BACK RIGHT WHEN SHE WOKE UP. LIKE, DUDE, PLEASE, YOUR HURT IS HURTING ME TOO. SO MUCH. also, we cannot forget about the moments between gu seungjun and seo dan. i’m just. well, i’m proud of every single lead’s character development, but those two. wow. when things started really building between those two, i kind of had a feeling he would be the one to go. i don’t know what it was, but when he did go, that felt like a punch in the gut. but personally, the scenes between them i did cry for were when he confessed what he loved about her on the bridge, and when he gave her the ring in jeonghyuk’s house. they each really found someone who could finally break their walls down, someone who loved them for who they were. and my god, that shit is beautiful man.
i feel like i could list so many more scenes where i completely lost it over the emotional depictions of love, and how each scene showed that love can overcome basically anything, but i’m not going to. because then i’m going to cry all over again. my god, just what kind of CRACK were the writers on these last few episodes??????? did they have a personal vendetta against the viewers for wanting us to suffer this badly????? well actually, for all the crying i did, i thoroughly enjoyed every tear, so. thank you. thank you for bringing to life such a purely beautiful couple like jeonghyuk and seri and showing us that if we really want it to, love can conquer all. and thank you especially for having the courage to tackle—and doing it with such tact and class—a difficult topic like north and south korea’s division. you know, while i was watching the scene where jeonghyuk and his comrades were being sent back to north korea, i thought, “if everyone in north and south korea and maybe the entire world watched this drama, we could reunite them again.” seeing the pain on the characters’ faces whenever seri tried going back south, or when she had to send them back north, hurt me differently than the hurt i felt when i watched romance scenes. because that shit is real. that shit happens in real life—friends and family have been torn apart because of the split between north and south korea. i would know, because i’ve heard the stories from those not only afar but close to me. i guess it also hurts that much more because that’s my history as someone of korean descent. can’t we all just love each as we are? as humans with flaws but also redeeming qualities as well? if we all got to know each other, each other’s good and bad and happy and sad parts, i would like to think it wouldn’t be that hard.
