“…Fall…”
Kakashi x You
Tumblr media
In the midst of a fierce battle, you find yourself injured, unable to continue fighting. Just as despair begins to take hold, Kakashi swoops in, his unwavering resolve shining through. With gentle care, he carries you to safety, his protective presence providing comfort in the midst of pain. Back at his place, Kakashi tends to your wounds with meticulous care, his skilled hands soothing your aches and pains. As Kakashi tends to your injuries, he creates a soothing atmosphere in his home. Soft music fills the air, casting a calming spell over the room.
As you recover from your injuries, doubts and insecurities creep into your mind. You start questioning if you're truly deserving of Kakashi's care and affection. The weight of your past mistakes weighs heavy on your heart, causing you to pull away from him. Kakashi, sensing your inner turmoil, tries to break through the walls you've built.
Kakashi gently grabs your hand and starts to make gentle circles on the back of your hand to help ground you. Then he has you drink from the warm tea he made you.
Kakashi found himself unable to contain his feelings any longer. He mustered up the courage and looked into your eyes, saying, "I love the way your hand fits mine. It's like our fingers were meant to intertwine.”
Kakashi gently cupped your face with his hands. With a soft smile, he leaned in, your soft lips meeting his in a tender and passionate kiss.
Time seemed to stand still as you melted into each other's embrace, feeling a deep connection that words could never fully express. You knew you didn’t have to fight alone any longer, and Kakashi will always be there to catch you when you fall.

Uchiha Itachi Goodbye Letter
Tumblr media
My Dear,
I hope you can forgive me but this is something that must be done. I love you. I'm sorry that I can’t say goodbye in person but if I did that I’m afraid that I'd never leave. I love you so, so much and I’m so sorry I have to leave you. This is my fate, I have accepted it. Please accept it too. There is nothing you can do to stop my death from happening so don’t live with the guilt in thinking that you could have. I want you to know even after my last breath I will still love you wherever I end up, my love for you is undying. I wished we didn’t have to end like this but we do. Maybe in another life we would have been together forever. Farewell my love please live a full and happy life even if it’s without me.
Sincerely, Uchiha Itachi

I live for you and your writings <3
Anyway, I do have a request if you would like to fill it!! - how would the naruto boys (itachi, neji, sasuke, naruto) react to a stranger telling their pup off or/ scolding them for a small little mishap that happened while their back was turn? And they only realize it after a good few minutes of their pup being shouted at?
Hehe ty for all your hard work
Thank you so much!! You're so sweet <3 I really, really loved this prompt; it has taken me so long to finish, but I wanted to to it justice! I've just done Naruto and Itachi and Sasuke. But I really hope people enjoy this one!
WHEN A STRANGER SCOLDS THEIR PUP (Omega! Itachi + Naruto + Sasuke)
ITACHI
Tumblr media
Itachi's eldest and only son, Yasu, was a very independent and responsible little boy, even though he was only 7.
So it came as no surprise when Yasu asked if he could wait outside the nesting shop instead of coming in with Itachi, because it was a beautiful day and he wanted to stand in the sun.
Itachi was originally hesitant, but with his newborn strapped to his chest, he begrudgingly agreed, knowing that it would be unfair for him to expect Yasu to be mature when it came to his baby sister, without giving him any of the benefits of that maturity.
"You must stay touching this wall at all times," Itachi said seriously, taking his little pup's hand and pressing it against the front wall of the nesting shop. "No leaving this wall unless you're coming inside the shop to find me, promise?"
"I promise," Yasu said, a serious smile on his little round face. "You can trust me, oma."
"I know, my love," Itachi whispered. He pressed a kiss to Yasu's forehead. "I won't take long."
"Okay, don't worry, oma, I'm a big brother now!"
Itachi laughed gently, standing and patting his son on the head as he did. His son was so much like him, and yet nothing like him at all.
But things only stayed sweet for about ten minutes.
Because as Itachi was wandering around looking for a new blanket for Yasu (a strategy other parents had recommend so that he didn't resent his new sister for taking up so much of Itachi's time), he heard crying.
He heard Yasu crying.
He dropped the basket to the ground with a clatter and ran out of the shop as quickly as he could, cradling his newborn safely to his chest.
What he saw caused a flash of anger so hot, he wasn't surprised when his sharigan activated on instinct.
There was a man, towering over his son, shouting and spitting at him, a large finger pointing accusatorily at Yasu's face.
Yasu's face was red as he choked on his tears. His little hand was still pressed up against the wall, but it now shook in time with his sobs.
Itachi's fingers latched onto the man's wrist with an iron grip, twisting the arm with the precision of a shinobi, just enough to hurt, but not quite enough to break. All at once, those shinobi instincts came flooding back even after all these years. He wanted to hurt this man for making his son cry, and he knew full well that he could do it.
"What do you think you are doing shouting at my son?" he said coldly, instead of breaking the man's spine like he desired.
The man's face went pale immediately. Itachi squeezed his wrist harder when the man didn't immediately reply.
"I- I-" the man stuttered, losing even more colour from his face. "I was just..."
"Not good enough," Itachi said coldly, sharigan spinning. The man whimpered pathetically. Itachi had no patience for bullies, especially those targeting his family.
Itachi held eye contact with the man for a few moments longer before he suddenly released the grip he had on the man's wrist and deactivated his sharigan. The man stumbled backwards and just barely avoided falling to the floor.
"Leave," he said coldly. The man wasted no time in doing as he was told and Itachi, despite having been the one to tell him to go, had to supress the urge to follow and eliminate the threat to his pup.
"O-Om-oma- oma," Yasu choked, tears and snot streaming down his face. He held one arm up in the universal request to be picked up, but he seemed too scared to stop touching the wall and approach Itachi himself. "O-Oma, I-I- didn't-"
Itachi suppressed the anger as best as he could and dropped down beside Yasu so that they were eye to eye. Yasu immediately barrelled into his side, still careful to avoid his baby sister.
"I'm so-sorry, oma, I didn't me-mean to! He said- he said- but you said I- I- couldn't move a-a-and-" he wailed, pushing his face into Itachi's collar bones and gripping his clothes tightly.
Itachi shushed him, "It's alright, sweetheart, you didn't do anything wrong." He rubbed Yasu's back firmly, anger burning through his veins as he felt his pup's tiny shoulders shake. While Itachi didn't know what had caused the conflict, there was nothing that Yasu could have done to warrant such a disgustingly aggressive reaction.
His newborn, clearly unhappy with being smushed, soon started up her own wailing, until Itachi was crouched outside the nesting shop with two distraught pups.
Itachi could feel himself becoming frazzled as none of his attempts to calm either child worked at all. People were giving him looks, some kind and some less so, and while he had never cared much what random people thought of his parenting, it was a stark reminder that he was far from the safety of home.
"Itachi?"
Itachi actually sighed in relief when he heard you come up beside him. You were planning on meeting him here after he finished shopping, but thankfully, you seemed to be a little early.
Itachi didn't waste any time greeting you, he simply scooped the wailing baby out of the sling on his chest and passed her to you.
"What happened?" you asked, sounding baffled as you accepted the infant and immediately began soothing her. Itachi ignored you and readjusted Yasu so that he could hug him properly. The boy cried heavily into his shoulder, but at least Itachi could fully cocoon him and keep him safe from the outside world now.
It took a few minutes, but with two pairs of hands and the ability to pick Yasu up properly, both the pups started to settle, their wails turning into little sniffles.
Itachi's face must still have promised murder however, because you kept your eyes focused warily on the surroundings and didn't ask for clarification on what had happened again.
"We're going home, darling, I promise we'll be there soon." As far as Itachi was concerned upset pups needed to be at home where it was safe, so he immediately abandoned the idea of finishing his shopping.
You followed his lead and you both made it home in record time, Itachi holding Yasu and you cradling the baby. Neither of you spoke as you walked. There was a mutual understanding that you'd address what happened after you were safe.
By the time you got home, both pups had fallen into an exhausted sleep.
"What happened?" you asked quietly as you gently closed the front door behind you. "Is Yasu alright?"
Itachi took a breath to smother the barely contained burning rage, "Some fully grown adult," he emphasised the word like it was the worst insult possible, "thought it appropriate to shout at Yasu when he was waiting outside the nesting shop."
"For what reason?" you asked, baffled and angry.
"I don't care." Itachi's voice was tinged with a growl and his hands flexed protectively around Yasu. "I believe he was too frightened to get the words out regardless."
You snorted, "Good."
Itachi's smile was tinged with gleeful cruelty, "Indeed."
NARUTO
Tumblr media
When people asked him what he disliked most about being Hokage, Naruto would always make a joke about paperwork.
That answer wasn't exactly incorrect, as he did find the paperwork tedious and irritating, but it wasn't actually the part he disliked the most.
The part that he disliked the most was how much the job kept him away from his family.
Especially his three-and-a-half year old son, Riku, who was the most precious person in the world and who was also having a hard time adjusting to Naruto not being at home as much, even though it had been almost a year since he took up the role.
He tried to make as much time as he could for Riku, sending a clone to tuck him in at night, spending his lunch break eating with him (and his mate) in his office, hell, Naruto even had a tiny pair of noise cancelling earmuffs in his desk so that Riku could sit on his lap while Naruto heard mission reports.
It wasn't perfect and it didn't feel like enough, but it was all the Naruto could do at the moment.
And today was one of the days that you and Riku would be joining him for lunch in his office.
Unfortunately, a spontaneous mission debriefing had started before he could slink away for lunch.
And while Naruto knew that it was not this team's fault that their mission had increased in rank and thus required an immediate verbal debrief, (this had happened to Naruto himself more times than he could count), he was finding it hard not to feel frustrated with the group in front of him.
They were keeping him away from his son which was making him antsy.
A glance at the clock confirmed that his family were certainly waiting for him outside by now, and the guilt was difficult to push down.
It was at that moment that the door to his office suddenly creaked open. Naruto's eyes jumped automatically to it as the team leader stopped speaking. Naruto's secretary knew he was in a meeting, so who was at the door?
At a much lower height than expected, the intruder's chubby little cheeks peaked nervously around the door. His tiny hands were held cautiously to his chest while he chewed on his bottom lip, but it was the head of bright blond hair that had Naruto's heart jumping into his throat.
It was Riku.
Naruto was already half way out of his seat when Riku finally saw him. His whole body relaxed and a smile crept onto his face as he toddled into the room. Naruto felt his own exhaustion melt away in response; his son was the cutest thing he'd ever seen.
"Oma!" his son cheered. "You're here!"
Naruto laughed, forgetting all about the debrief, as he moved around his desk. "Of course, I'm here, silly. Where's appa? How did you-"
Suddenly, another person entered the room, his face twisted angrily. He grabbed Riku by the wrist, startling him and Naruto in the process.
"What did I say?!" the man, Naruto's secretary, demanded, squeezing Riku's wrist. "I told you to wait quietly, and that you weren't allowed in yet, but you barged your way in when my back was turned! Out! Right now! I'm so sorry, Hokage-sama, I won't let this happen again."
Naruto had heard far worse from far scarier people when he was Riku's age, but Riku wasn't like him. He wasn't capable of the bravado and retaliation that Naruto had used to limp through his childhood, no. Riku was a sensitive child. He needed everyone to like him, to be gentle with him, and Naruto knew that he wouldn't be able to cope with such blatant negative attention.
Naruto watched as his pup's anxiety spiked, and he felt his heart drop in response. Riku's wide eyes bubbled over with heavy tears that covered his little flushed cheeks. His mouth moved like he was trying to speak, but he was simply too frightened to get any words out.
Naruto's secretary was not happy with the lack of movement. "Out, now!"
Riku was frozen, and when the man tugged him, knocking him off balance, all the colour drained from his face and his breathing became harsh and disjointed. To make things worse, his darling pup, who had only been out of nappies for a short few months, lost control of his bladder from fear.
Naruto saw red. A wave of killing intent swept over the room. It was so strong that Naruto was distantly aware that his guard was shifting nervously where they were hidden, and that several members of the debriefing team had fallen to their knees. Naruto only had eyes for one person though.
Naruto's secretary dropped his hold on Riku like he'd been burnt and fell heavily into the door frame, shoulder first. Naruto had fought in a war, but he'd never moved as fast as he did in that moment, as he planted himself between his secretary and his son.
"Get. Out," Naruto ground out, somehow keeping control of his voice. Naruto had never attacked a civilian, and he didn't want to start now, but if this man wasn't out of his sight in the next three seconds, something was going to snap.
Thankfully, the man didn't need to be told twice. With a terrified face and wobbly limbs, he stumbled out of the office with all the grace of a newborn giraffe. Naruto felt no guilt when he heard the man retching on the floor.
Wasting no time, Naruto spun around and grabbed his pup up and into the safety of his embrace. He didn't pay any attention to the dampness, and some of the furious anxiety left him as soon as his instincts registered that his child was safe with him.
Riku was still very stiff, but he did reach out and grab Naruto's collar. His breathing was worryingly sporadic.
Naruto cooed and purred at his pup, rocking him gently from side to side. His rage was still bubbling below the surface, but he kept his outward presentation comforting and gentle.
"Oma's here," he whispered into his pup's hair. "Oma's got you. You're safe, Riku."
Naruto sat back down in his chair and arranged Riku on his lap so that he was cocooned in his Hokage's robes. He then grabbed the earmuffs from his desk and slipped them over his pup's ears to help him calm down.
The team that had been debriefing were still stood awkwardly in front of his desk. They were all back to standing upright, but they seemed unsure of what to do seeing as it was hardly appropriate to continue the debriefing, but they also hadn't been dismissed.
"You guys can go. Just leave the report on my desk."
They all bowed and scurried out of the room.
Naruto ended up sitting there in silence for a few minutes, just processing what had happened while he calmed down his son.
He hated using his power to make others afraid. He loved being a friendly hokage that everyone could trust and look up to. But he had been so angry that he had lost control.
He was still angry, if he was being honest with himself.
And he also felt guilty. Because that small part of him that always questioned whether this job was a selfish desire, was suddenly so much louder.
This wouldn't have happened if he had been at home with his family for lunch like most parents with young children.
He was broken out of his thoughts when you arrived, fresh from your bathroom break, having walked into the aftermath of chaos.
Of course you were there; you always joined them for lunch, it had just escaped Naruto's mind until you were in front of him.
Riku had calmed down a lot, but he was still staring at the wall, holding Naruto as tightly as he could with his little hands.
"What happened?" you asked quietly, coming straight over to him and Riku. You smoothed a hand over Riku's hair and crouched down beside him. He kept one hand on Naruto and latched the other one onto your hand as soon as you were in range.
Naruto just shook his head, feeling exhausted all of a sudden. "Let's just head home. Riku needs a change of clothes and a nice bath with lots of bubbles."
To your credit, you didn't ask why, you simply nodded and allowed Riku to bury himself in your arms while Naruto gathered his things. He wasn't coming back into the office today, and he told you as much.
"Are you sure?" He pretended that your surprise didn't hurt as much as it did.
"Yes," Naruto said shortly. He needed to find a better way to balance his job and his family, because this just wasn't cutting it.
"Okay," you said easily, rocking Riku. "Let's head home then. We can talk there."
SASUKE
Tumblr media
Some people called Sasuke an overprotective parent, but Sasuke knew that his parenting style was entirely justified.
If someone was rude to his daughter, they deserved to have their life ruined as far as he as concerned.
If teachers made up lies about her, Sasuke would refuse to listen.
If his daughter was bullied, Sasuke would go and... speak... to the parents of the bully to 'encourage' them to be better parents.
This was an entirely normal response in his opinion. That was his daughter, his child, and while he sometimes struggled to verbalise his love, his daughter would never question his dedication to her.
She was still only seven, and needed his protection.
One day, when he was walking to meet her halfway from school, he noticed that she wasn't alone.
A tall woman, much too old to be a peer from school, was standing close, shoving her finger in his daughters face. His daughter didn't look cowed. She was staring, with her arms crossed, but this didn't stop the woman from her tirade.
She started shouting about how rude his daughter was, and how that was to be expected when her oma was the village pariah.
How dare she?!
He acted without thinking.
The kunai flew from his hand before Sasuke had even registered the movement, piercing the hand of the woman who had been pointing aggressively at his pup's face.
She shrieked as the pain registered and blood began running down her arm. Sasuke watched, stoic faced, as he walked towards them. The only emotions her pain brought to him were positive ones.
His daughter whirled around and he was privileged enough to see her face turn from confused to delighted as she recognised him. She was truly the light of his life.
"Oma!" she cheered, happily. He nodded back, a small smile on his face. He was proud to see that she didn't look scared at all, but that certainly didn't excuse the adult that had been shouting at her.
"Are you crazy?!" the woman hissed, holding her hand to her chest. Her face was twisted with rage and pain instead of fear, which cemented her in Sasuke's mind as an idiot. "They'll take away your shinobi licence for this!"
Another kunai found its place in his hand. These kunai really had a mind of their own today. "Are you threatening me? After you so blatantly attacked my daughter?"
"Attacked?! That rude little-"
The kunai flew from his hand again, this time flying less than an inch from her ear. It shut her up immediately.
"Choose your next words carefully." His daughter came over to his side and hugged him around the hips. He rested a hand affectionately on her head.
"I'll be reporting this to the hokage," she hissed. Sasuke was not scared; the worst thing Naruto would do is give him a disappointed look. His lack of fear must have shown on his face because the lady stormed off, far less injured than Sasuke would have liked.
Sasuke watched her go before he knelt down to his daughter's level and scanned her from head to toe. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine." She grinned at him and adjusted her school bag on her shoulder. "That asshole couldn't have scared me if she tried."
"Language," Sasuke admonished gently, poking her in the forehead.
"Am I wrong, though?"
Privately, Sasuke agreed. "Let's just head home, your appa should be along any minute."
When you did meet up with them, you had to listen to your daughter singing about how she had the coolest oma in the world.
And when you wholeheartedly agreed, Sasuke could no longer keep the blush off his face.

Ghost (Gaara x SandNymph!Reader)
Synopsis: Gaara insists that he's been dating you for about a month. Well, Kankuro and Temari haven't seen you once and are convinced you're not even real. Temari is extremely concerned.
Word Count: 2.3k
Tags/Warnings: SandNymph!Reader, No Reader Pronouns, Humor, Fluff
Notes: I'm using "nymph" because I thought "sand spirit" or "spirit" would be confused with Shukaku, you know, Gaara's literal "sand spirit."
Tumblr media
“A… date…?” Temari was in such disbelief over what she had just heard that she had to repeat it aloud. The lecture she had prepared about scheduling meetings died on her lips. Gaara spared a questioning glance from his paperwork, holding his pen just barely over the pages below. He held his posture completely still as he studied his sister’s expression of disbelief. Her eyebrows shot to her forehead. “You?” she blurted.
He frowned.
“Is it that hard to believe?” Gaara returned to his work, the previously motionless pen now sailing across the page. Termari opened her mouth before closing it again, at a loss for words, as she studied the schedule nestled in her hands. The slot of time that had been sectioned off still sat there just as it had the last time she stared at it. The location was marked “rooftop.”
The note made Temari quirk her lip in pleasant surprise. She nodded to herself, cocking her head to the side as she stared at the combination of letters. Now that she thought of it, the rooftop of the Kazekage office wasn’t a terrible date location. The time would set Gaara’s date to start around sunset, making for quite the romantic atmosphere she didn’t know he had the capabilities to foresee.
Temari glanced toward the Kazekage headpiece displayed on the wall behind Gaara’s desk, wondering if the not-so-subtle nod to his position had been intentional when he chose the setting. It was quite the power move. She couldn’t decipher whether it was too intimidating or if her little brother secretly had more charm than he let on.
“Do you need something from me?” Gaara corralled his paperwork, leveling the pages against his desk. Temari shook her head, physically dismissing her thoughts as she brought the schedule forward to place it in front of him. She stood there and rocked on her heels, always one to make it known when she had an opinion. Gaara let out a quiet sigh and spoke in an even tone. “Yes?”
“Don’t you think the Kazekage office is a bit intimidating?” Temari hummed, glancing off to the side. She pivoted the ball of her foot on the intricately woven carpet below. Gaara’s writing stopped for a second before picking up again.
“Considering that this is my place of employment— and that I’m the Kazekage— I would hope not.” Gaara quickly dismissed the question, much to Temari’s chagrin. “But I suppose we can afford to purchase a decorative plant or two.”
“I meant for your date,” Temari protested. An undetectable smirk tugged at Gaara’s cheeks, tarnishing his otherwise unreadable expression. “You knew what I meant.” Gaara blinked as he pivoted in his chair to stand and retrieve a few more pressing documents. Temari perked up instantly, folding her arms as she moved around the large wooden desk. “What’s with that look?” She jabbed a finger at him.
“I didn’t say anything,” Gaara insisted with a shake of his head. A small crease appeared above his brow. He brushed past his sister, adamant about finishing his clerical work over engaging with her.
“You didn’t say anything, but you were thinking it.”
“Temari.”
“You put a date on your official calendar and didn’t even tell me about it?” As angry as she sounded, the gleeful inflection that whipped up the end of her sentence betrayed her. She leaned against Gaara’s desk to his left. With another subtle heave of his chest, he slowly met her eye. Her irises glinted.
“We’ve been seeing each other for quite some time. This is nothing new.”
“Wait, what?”
“Temari, please. If this is all—” He tapped the schedule with the back of his pen. —“I’d appreciate it if you left me to my work.”
Temari visibly deflated and left with a huff, knowing ultimately that she had been pushing her luck. She glanced back at her brother one more time before gently closing the office door. It was time to compare notes.
***
“It’s been maybe two months?” Kankuro took a sip of his tea with a shrug of his shoulders. Temari couldn’t help how her mouth hung open in disbelief. She stepped forward, slamming her palms on the surface of Kankuro’s glorified desk. A few papers went toppling to the floor as he visibly jumped. Liquid spilled over the side of his cup. “Probably longer?”
“You didn’t tell me?”
“I thought you knew!” Kankuro raised his hands in defense, three fingers still wrapped around his beverage. He snuck another sip. “I mean, it’s the same time every week. He puts it in the calendar for fuck’s sake.” Kankuro placed his cup on a few scattered papers in front of him, moving just in time to catch a falling pile of files.
“What do you mean ‘probably’?” Kankuro randomly spread the compilation of work across the desk, all the forms and other important documents blending together in the unorganized mass. He only shrugged, clearly disinterested in the matter at hand. “Kankuro.”
“I dunno!” He shrugged again, but higher this time, sinking in his chair to pout at the clock mounted on the wall. Kankuro had hoped that he could waste the rest of the workday away in peace. The bodyguard to the Kazekage being a clearly redundant position, there was only so much ass Kankuro could kick in the comfort of an office environment. While he certainly performed other tasks, those tasks… could be done another day. “I think he gets stood up half the time anyway.”
Temari tried to instigate a conversation about Gaara’s dating life twice that day, and twice, one of her brothers attempted to get her to drop the subject by inadvertently dropping the juiciest tidbits into the conversation. Suffice it to say, neither time worked in their favor.
Kankuro tried to turn away from Temari in his swivel chair. She rotated him back. Fury mounted in her eyes.
“He what?” She towered over him with her
“I don’t know that for sure,” Kankuro whined, letting his head tilt back onto the back of his chair. He kicked an ankle up onto his opposite knee, cradling it in his lap as he braced himself for Temari’s firestorm. “He just always comes downstairs alone whenever I’ve been here late. But then again—” Kankuro scratched lazily at the back of his head. —“That’s me being here late.”
“Your brother has been dating—”
—“Our brother…?—”
“Your brother has had a more successful dating life than you—”
— “Okay, uncalled for—”
— “And you don’t want to know who it is?” Temari placed her fists on her hips with a puff of her chest. She sighed, walking around him to gaze out the window, watching people trickle in and out of the office building. Only when she had her back turned did Kankuro relax.
“‘Mari, I know you’re concerned about this, but I honestly don’t think it’s anyone.”
Temari snapped back around, causing Kankuro to sink back into his chair. She quirked her brow. Her lip twitched downward skeptically.
“What do you mean?”
“You really think he’s actually seeing anyone?” Kankuro stressed, leaning forward. He glanced in the vague direction of Gaara’s office. Temari followed his glance in consideration. “Even if he is the Kazekage, it’s just another degree of separation from being a regular guy.”
“You think he’s making it up?” The two locked eyes simultaneously, both having the same thought but neither wanting to vocalize it. Kankuro averted his eyes guiltily.
“I wouldn’t say he’s making it up…” he trailed off. “He has us, of course. And he has pretty good interactions with most people in, like, a Kazekage kinda way…” Kankuro heaved in a deep breath. “I just think he’s, um… compensating. I’m sure he’ll tell us everything when he’s ready.”
Temari wanted to fight him on his point, but she knew that Kankuro was right.

The rooftop housed a small garden. Flowerpots ranging in size lined the east side. A few sturdy stands had made their way upstairs, offering a few neat displays for the pots to sit. one of the older secretaries routinely arrived to work early to maintain his menagerie of drought-hardy plants: a well-kept compilation of cacti, succulents, and desert flowers. Over quite a number of years, the old man managed to turn the dreary, cracked rooftop of the Kazekage building into a rather peaceful space.
You were already waiting for him when Gaara arrived. The glow of the fiery-colored evening outlined your silhouette, a sunset of painted crimson surrounding you in his sights. You turned as soon as you heard the door.
Gaara stood in the doorway of the stairwell.
Your simple, traditional robes fluttered slightly in the evening breeze. Particles of sand fell from your fingertips, leaving a rounded puddle beneath around your feet.
But he didn’t move. Instead, Gaara leaned against the doorframe; the inside knob of the wide-open door sat under his fingertips as he stood enamored with you. You lit up at the sight of him, beckoning him over. Gaara tried to suppress the bashful smile of admiration that slowly crept onto his lips.
He stepped forward, letting the door close behind him, and stopped short in front of it. Gaara shifted his weight to his back leg. Two neat dimples indented his cheeks as he raised his arms, holding his pointed index fingers and thumbs to make a square shape as he lined you up in his vision with the blazing sunset in the background.
Gaara squinted one eye. You rolled yours.
“Get over here,” you protested playfully with a droop of your shoulders. Gaara’s lips tightened to form a twisted line as he snickered to himself, jogging forward to embrace you. You pressed your forehead against his.
“Have I ever told you that sunset is my favorite time of day?” Gaara said softly. You kissed the corner of his lips.
His fingers laced through yours. With a brush of your palm, a few more grains of sand fell to the ground. You chuckled, letting a sentimental smile rest across your mouth, pulling away to lead him to the edge of the rooftop.
But Gaara stood still, letting the tension of your pull stretch his arm and stop you mid-step. He used your momentum to pull you back into his arms, adding a spin as he did so.
“You must have missed me a lot,” you quipped as you used his leather-clad shoulder to steady yourself. Gaara shrugged with an informality surely unbecoming of a political figure as important as the Kazekage. But the soft gaze that focused back on you held nothing but genuity.
“Every time I looked upon the sand,” he hummed, finally releasing you. You cocked your head to the side, mischief already beginning to cloud your illuminated irises.
“Every time?” you repeated with a snicker and planted your hands on your hips. “It’s a miracle you can get anything done.”
You backed up a step, and Gaara followed. A few feet before the edge of the rooftop, you had set up a modest, woven blanket and a spread of simple, traditional foods. The two of you sat, perfectly shrouded from prying eyes by the tall cacti that grew around you.
“Bold of you to assume anything ever gets done with all these new global alliances.” Gaara’s forehead creased with amusement as he poured the tea for both of you. You began to fix the plates. “This is a government building, after all.”
“Oh, so the Kazekage has jokes. Does Baki know? I’m sure he would be thrilled to hear you say that.”
“I can’t say he does.”
Gaara set your tea down in front of you. The sun had lowered enough so that you could see each other clearly in the indirect light. The sky cast a golden color over the desert, and the fading beams trickled through the desert flowers that surrounded you.
“Well, I’m glad you found some time to take a break.”
“I always have time for you.”
***
The sun had set by the time Temari finally left the office. Bright moonlight lit up the roads as she began her trek home after a long day of running papers. Homes were lit with warm lantern light, laying the path before her. Kankuro already left hours ago.
She strode through the street. A few people milled about around her, also commuting home from work or closing up small market stalls. In a moment overtaken by thought, Temari stopped in the middle of the sidewalk to turn back toward the office building.
The outdoor lights had been lit. She searched for Gaara’s office window, only to find it dark. Perhaps he went home at the same time Kankuro had. Given the week they’ve had, Gaara deserved some well-needed rest, Temari decided. But two figures caught her eye just as she was about to turn her back to continue her walk.
Obscured by the tall plants on the rooftop, Temari could have easily missed them if she had been looking from any other angle. She looked to her left, then right, scanning the street for people before she stepped forward, squinting to get a better look. Temari hadn’t forgotten about Gaara’s date for a second, but she hadn’t expected it to go so late into the evening. And while she happened to see you and Gaara saying your goodbyes, she might as well see who’s dating her little brother.
But as soon as Temari began to look closer, you disappeared into a swirl of sand, and the grains blew into the breeze.
Thank you to all who liked, reblogged, followed, and supported. Your support means so much and is greatly appreciated.
Notes: I prefer to avoid gendering readers in my work. Originally I was wondering how to talk about you in third person without having to pick a set of pronouns, but the dialogue wrote smoother than I originally even thought! It's very possible to write reader inserts without mentioning any specific third-person pronouns, it just requires some creativity, flexibility, and thought— I stand by this!

How Genin Naruto, Sasuke, Neji, Hinata, Sakura, Rock Lee react to going on a go mission in a long time and when they return the reader is waiting for them at the gate and is so happy that they are back that he hugs them and ends up knocking them down and doesn't let go of them for a while and stays with them all day. (The reader and they are in love with each other)
author's note: First post in a long time! I took a little bit of a liberty with some of the characters, but the general idea is there for all of them. It was a while since I got this request and I was working off of the material I had written in my Google Drive (and the majority of this request was written two months ago), so if you would like me to rewrite some of the entries please let me know. I can do that. For now, though, I hope you all enjoy!

Uzumaki Naruto
When returning from a week away, Naruto is dorking out to Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi about how he totally helped out when the enemy was attacking the three of them. Sakura gets in a word about how he was tussling with cats, not enemy shinobi, before you leapt off a roof onto Naruto’s back.
The unexpected piggyback ride leaves him stumbling and bristling, screaming, “WHO IS THAT?!” In response, you lock your legs around his torso and grip his shoulders through the flailing, giggling like a maniac. When he hears your laugh, Naruto whips his head up to get a glimpse of you and… well… this has the result you’d think it would.
The back of his head slams into your nose and you release your grip, the two of you now nursing matching wounds as the rest of Team 7 stands off to the side watching the show with deadpan expressions.
“What was that for, Uzumaki? I was just trying to say hi!” you would quip, pointing a finger from your free hand at him, your other pressing into your face to quell the pain.
“It’s not MY fault that I was ambushed!” he would yell, pointing back at you. At this point, you two were attracting the attention of the civilians and Team 7 needed to drag you two away forcefully.
After the two of you calmed down, you ended up apologizing for scaring Naruto with your silly prank. He laughs it off and accepts, saying it was an accident and that it was pretty funny and harmless in the end. He even offers you another piggyback ride around the village, this time without the headbutting, which causes your heart to beat a little faster as you accept.
Uchiha Sasuke
As usual after returning to Konoha with Team 7, the only people to greet them at the gate were Sakura’s parents. Naruto darted off to… wherever the hell he goes to cause mayhem, while Kakashi simply vanished into the air, leaving Sasuke to make his way home alone. To the empty Uchiha compound. He always took the long way.
However, this particular day, it seemed that he had a shadow — you. Sasuke knew you’d been following him since about halfway through his walk home, when he spotted your ninja garb through the crowds swiftly taking cover in an alleyway. Half of him was always irked by your insistence that you spend time with him. Didn’t you have anything else better to do? But the shameless part of him, the one that yearned for a friend, was thankful that you took the time out of your day to be with him despite his prickly and cold attitude. Besides Team 7, you were the only one that ever kept trying; only you could possibly understand the motives behind that decision. Does he feel guilty about it? Yes, damn it, he does. He should be focused on his goals, not whatever the hell this is. Something in him is healing, though. And tells him to let you in. Just a little bit.
On the threshold of the compound, you stepped from Sasuke’s peripheral and appeared with a bag of treats. “Hey, Sasuke!” you greeted with a wide smile. “I saw you got back while I was out in the markets,” You noted the scrapes and bruises over his body, as well as the state of his clothing and his sour expression. “Rough mission?”
He would respond with an affirmative noise, taking the bag from your hands and leading the way to his house. There, you would chew his ear off with stories about your training and small missions while he sat in silence, sharpening his dull kunai and shuriken from the mission. The rest of the compound may have been haunted by the ghosts of the massacre, but right now, something in Sasuke felt a little bit at ease in that household for the first time in years as you and him munched on junk food together.
Hyuga Neji
The second that you get word that Team Guy is expected to return from their long-term mission, you plant yourself at the gates to welcome them back. They must be far away, however, since you’ve been lounging with the guards for way too long, playing cards and gossiping about practically every other shinobi in the village.
In the blink of an eye, one after another, two flashes of green speed through the gates, leaving clouds of dust billowing. The draft from, assumedly, Lee and Guy’s movements, sent the cards from your game of blackjack spiraling into the air. The chunin assigned guard began lunging for everyone’s cards to get an upper hand, leaving you to struggle for just your own. You had a damn good hand, too! At least you thought? Of course this would happen…
Tenten shot by soon after, begging for her sensei and team mate to “please stop this nonsense”. It barely occurred to you, though, that the one person you were looking for was still missing as you lunged and grabbed for your cards. Your vision had tunneled up with your head, your gaze flickering to the… Huh? Where your cards were once fluttering in the air is now only blue sky.
“Hey!” you shouted, whipping your head down and around. “Which one of you took my cards? Picking on the genin, are you? How—”
“I have them right here,” a voice snarked from your left, putting five fanned-out cards right over your field of vision. “You should probably fold soon. You’ve only got seven out of twenty-one. Unless you’re the one that bet that entire pile of chocolate.”
“Neji! You’re back too!” You snatched the cards from his outstretched hand and turned to the regrouped chunin, throwing your cards down on the dirt face-up. “I fold.” In one fluid motion, you turned and took Neji’s wrapped forearm in your hand, taking him into the streets of Konoha. He opened his mouth to complain, but not before you shut him right up with a wide smirk, telling him this is exactly what he advised.
Hyuga Hinata
Daring not to sprint with the delicate pastries in your grasp, you walked hastily towards the main entrance of Konoha. Team Eight was supposed to already be there. Have you missed them? Maybe Kiba held them up somewhere along the way following some random animal’s poop scent for a prank. That situation would certainly not be ideal, but at least you would be able to see Hinata the second she got back to the village.
Unfortunately, you seemed to be a little late as you caught her in the shadow of the shopping crowds. You approached in her direct view and waved to make sure she wasn’t shocked too much. But you still enjoyed the slight flush of her cheeks and little smile that you could only catch if you were truly paying attention to her.
“Hinata!” you called, handing the box to her as she whispered a greeting in return. “I got you these pastries! I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go find somewhere around to hang out and eat them with me?”
“Oh!” She reached out and snatched the offering with a swiftness you didn’t know she possessed. Still holding it out, Hinata bowed to you with a small “thank you!” coming out before she panicked and took off with an air of sorrow. What you didn’t see was her blush shoot up to her ears and down her neck.
“Ah! No, I wanted to share them!” you sighed with a laugh, beginning the chase. I wanted to spend time with you! Hinata does, too. She just needs a minute to get that darn blush off of her face! Though, when you do catch up with her and sit down, you note that her ears stayed red the rest of the day.
Haruno Sakura
Sakura really wasn’t sure what the heck all of the petals were for. She was initially shocked senseless when her parents weren’t there to greet Team Seven. Everyone milled by like they didn’t exist. Naruto wanted to drag everyone to Ichiraku’s, but being tired of his nonsense after the past week, Sakura allowed her attention and stride to wander away from the group after giving a half-hearted farewell. When she rounded a corner, a cherry blossom petal in the breeze caught her attention.
She thought it wasn’t even cherry blossom season. Was this a genjutsu? Or maybe they were fake. Determined now to find out, Sakura began to follow upwind, the direction from which the petals came from. The further she worked into the forest, the more she was convinced it was a genjutsu — she could smell the cherry blossom. Her hand twitched over her kunai strap as she worked her chakra network overtime to disrupt the illusion.
Awaiting at the destination was what seemed to be a massive pool of the pink petals. If Sakura wasn’t convinced this was some sort of trap, she would be in awe of the beauty surrounding her. A completely normal summer forest with a pocket of spring right here.
“You won’t find any disruptions in your network because there’s no genjutsu.” You rounded a tree trunk, a picnic basket in hand. “I just wanted to get you away from your team for the rest of the day. You’ve probably had more than enough of them.”
“Oh my gosh. Oh my GOSH. You are the best!” Sakura squealed, jumping down from the trees, hugging and twirling you.
You invite her to sit on the blanket of petals you set up, preserves you managed to purchase with your savings from Ino’s family’s store. (Of course, you’d never tell her that.) It seems like you’re able to guess all of her favorite foods and drinks as you whip them out of the basket comedically, pretending to summon everything like a magician.
Until sundown, the two of you are able to enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the quiet ambiance of the surrounding forests of Konoha, the only noises being your uproarious laughter and soft gossip breaking just over the static of the leaves in the wind.
Rock Lee
(The same beginning situation as Neji’s, so if it’s familiar, that’s why!)
You take off after them across the rooftops without thinking, wanting to greet Lee. Vaguely behind you, you can hear Neji and Tenten yelling at them to stop, that their race was supposed to be over at the gate. It took a good few moments before they actually were able to pump the brakes and de-accelerate, kicking up the dirt road.
You, however, purposefully ram yourself into Lee’s back from above like a hawk, giving him a hug that almost puts him out on the ground. “Welcome back! I missed you,” you yell, interrupting his argument with Guy-sensei on who stepped over the threshold first. He greets you warmly after recovering from the shock, returning your hug with just as much vigor. “I am sorry for leaving for so long, but we are back!”
“Ah, how wonderful youth is!” You forgot that Guy-sensei was right there, so you withdrew, a bit bashful. “Let me ask you, young (Y/N), who did you see enter the village first? You were there, right?”
You confess that in all honesty, you were not focused on that at all, just the fact that your friends were all back. At this point, Tenten and Neji catch up, ready to give the lecture of a life. Which is why you’re not surprised at all when your ride spins around and takes off to avoid the scolding, laughing and trying to figure out where the two of you want to lead them for a post-mission meal.

Naruto Founder's s/o who Attempted S*icide
T/W: Hinted non-explicit suicide attempt, references to depression
A/N: I'm not in a good space so here is some angst to vent! These men were born and raised during war and political instability, so their understanding of mental health is terrible. GN! reader
Hashirama:
Tumblr media
You were the light of his life always laughing and smiling
Whenever he was stressed with Hokage duties he took refuge in you
He never sensed anything was wrong until you tried to kill yourself
He's the one that found you and healed you
The village was supposed to be a safe place for his loved ones yet you were not safe in the village he built
He blames himself. He feels like your happiness, and everyone in his village is his responsibility. He's your partner and your Hokage
Away from you, he starts drinking and gambling a lot to forget what happened and distract himself
Tobirama has to eventually find him and sober him up
His brother informs him that he needs to stop being self-destructive and blaming himself for what happened
Bags are now permanently under his eyes. He clings to you in sleep now, not out of love, but because he's terrified of losing you like he has lost so many
He's lost brothers, family and friends to war. To protect his loved ones was one of the reasons for creating the village But he can't protect you from yourself
He is an amazing healer so there are no physical scars on you. However, every time he sees you, he sees those injuries on you- he is forever scared mentally
He loves you and he drains himself trying to keep you happy
He doesn't show you he is struggling at all, he is scared his depression will cause you to spiral downward and attempt to take your life again
So he puts on a happy, joyous and carefree mask. Now he is performing at home as well as performing as Hokage and clan head
He secretly asks Tobirama to watch you when he is unable to. Tobirama starts to dislike you. You burden his brother, himself and the village. To him you are a liability, a weakness of his brother and a danger to the village. He would never hurt anyone his brother loves but he advises Hashirama to break up with you and tries to convince you to leave Hashirama, and preferably the village
Tobirama
Tumblr media
He's angry and he's disappointed but mostly at himself because he feels so powerless
Despite being an amazing tactician, he didn't predict and prevent this. He feels so inadequate and starts doubting himself
Ever the logical man, he sees there's a problem and he wants to fix it. And nothing will get in the way, not even you
However, emotions do not follow logical thought, and you cannot apply cold logic to something as complicated as mental health
To you, he visibly becomes colder and more distant however he is trying to do the opposite. He expresses his love through acts of service but he is so emotionally incompetent it comes off as him being controlling, which he is but he wants to help you. He just has no idea how
He never opens up about his mental health. The trauma of being a child soldier, having an abusive father, trying to protect his brothers from abuse, losing his brothers, his alienation from being albino and autistic (my headcanon), PTSD, his strained relationship with his brother…
In his mind, as long as you can do your job as a shinobi, housewife, or merchant… and contribute to your village and/or clan, you are fine. Happiness and personal fulfilment come from knowing your place and fulfilling you are not contributing then that is a problem. If you're not doing your duty then that is a problem that needs to be fixed
He views people like cogs in a machine, if you are not doing your job then that is a problem. If you are doing your job, then there is no problem
He'll make sure you are physically well and then try to get you back to work because then that means everything is fixed
He will never talk about it, he wants to forget it, ignore it suppress it- like all his other emotions
But secretly, when he can, he'll create a shadow clone to follow you around to make sure you're safe
He will also put a seal on you that allows him to teleport to you if he senses that you're in danger. If you refuse he'll do it anyway without your permission because it's the smart thing to do and he cares about you. Your safety is more important to him than you liking him
At night when he comes back late and you are fast asleep, he'll hold you and silently cry a bit because he doesn't want to lose you.
You will never find out, he wants to be strong for both of you. In his mind no emotions = strong
In his mind, you have too many emotions, so he needs to show even fewer emotions to avoid triggering you. This is very unhealthy for everyone
After his brother advises him, he tries to be more outwardly affectionate. Even though he doesn't understand the need of pointing out the obvious, he compliments you more and kisses you on the forehead before going to work every day. Just know that he loves you
Madara
Tumblr media
Hashirama is the one to tell Madara about your attempt. He was the medic-nin that saved you and, mainly, because everyone else is too scared of Madara to tell him
Madara is angry and scared. He is one of the most powerful shinobi to have ever existed. He has one of the most powerful Kekkei Genkai, yet he couldn't protect you. He can't protect you from yourself
The way he deals with his feelings of powerlessness is to label you unworthy
If you let your thoughts almost kill you- then you are truly weak. He grew up in a war zone where everyone was trying to kill him and he's perfectly fine! (He's not)
While you recover, he'll check up on you and make sure you're healing but he won't talk about what happened at all. Once you physically recover from your attempt, he'll break up with you
He's the clan head and his future spouse would become the clan matriarch (or the gender-neutral equivalent), taking on a lot of roles and responsibilities. Madara can't have someone he views as weak representing the Uchiha, it would make the Uchiha seem vulnerable and his job is ultimately to protect the clan. Madara also worries that the stress from the job will worsen you're mental health
After the break up he'll disappear for your life completely. If you try to visit him he will never be in. He won't be in his office if you're there- you won't even see him out in the street. It will be like you were never together
Secretly, he will start stalking you because he's worried but has no idea how to help you
He stops eating or sleeping regularly because he's too worried. Also, you were the one to remind him to eat and drink. His own physical and mental health declines
Hashirama becomes increasingly worried about his friend and tries to convince Madara to talk to you
Madara has already lost Izuna and the rest of his family, he can't lose you too. He knocks on your door with some food hoping you'll start the conversation

Note
Sasuke, Naruto, Sakura, Neji with a reader who has a bijuu
Not the request we asked, but the request we so desperately needed 😭😭😭
Warnings: Mentions of 🩸and d*ath on Sasuke’s part. Gender neutral reader. Not proof readed, I wrote this on my phone.
A/N: this ask wasn’t really specific on the form or anything so I went wild 🤪
Again, i’m sorry for any mistakes in the grammar or the spelling, english is not my first language.
————————————————————————
Sasuke:
🍅You two met before he joined the Akatsuki. You too were village-less ninja, a rogue, another victim of the unfairness of the decisions of the power-thirsty wandering the forests, prairies and desserts of the different nations on the map.
🍅 You joined him, after all, you had nowhere else to go and the flag you and team Taka waved was similar.
🍅 You kept the whole Jinchuriki thing as a secret. It had brought you too much pain in times past, you didn’t need more of that.
🍅 Sasuke saw a little bit of his old best friend in you. Both of you carried around that same sense of loneliness and an aura of guilt and melancholy. He was naturally drawn to you as he was to Naruto when they were young.
🍅 You grew close and made an oath to protect eachother. Taka became your family and he became your best companion.
🍅 It wasn’t until one day, during a fight against some bounty hunters that were after Sasuke, that he got hurt and the rage that bubbled inside of you weakened the seal.
🍅 Some of the chakra of the tailed beast within you enveloped you in a coat of anger and bloodlust, completely blinded and stripped of your will, tearing the enemies to pieces.
🍅 By the time you came to your senses, there was nothing but destruction in front of you. You had done it again… and your heart sank impossibly deep.
🍅 But that dark feeling was shaken away from you the moment Sasuke reassuringly placed his hand on your shoulder. You saw support, he saw a chance of making his ultimate dream come true.
Naruto:
🍥 You, alongside Bee, were on the team of teaching Naruto how to control his Bijuu and use its power.
🍥 You had become a perfect Jinchuriki, just like bee, so when you were offered the chance to help the blond Ninja, you immediately said yes.
🍥 Before his Jinchuriki training, Naruto hadn’t met other people like him. His whole life he was hated, judged and humiliated for carrying something evil inside him. Seeing you and bee so strong and confident on the power within you made him feel somehow disadvantaged.
🍥 But it also gave him the impulse he needed to pursue the same path.
🍥 He always had been confident on the fact that he could achieve anything if he had set his mind into it, and, after meeting you and hearing your own story, he knew it was true.
🍥 It was like looking at himself in the mirror. You had gone through hell, just like him, but there were you standing… powerful and brave.
🍥 Your strength inspired him, so he worked hard to conquer that part of himself he hated the most. If you had done it so flawlessly, how couldn’t he?
Sakura:
🌸 She was introduced to you by The Fifth.
🌸 All Hokages knew what to do in case the seal was weakened or broken and, because Tsunade was passing most of her knowledge to her brilliant apprentice, she summoned Sakura to learn the process.
🌸 What she remembers the most about the first time she saw you was how “normal” you looked.
🌸 Well, her experience with other Jinchuriki was limited to Naruto only and the blonde ninja was really far from being normal.
🌸 And she wasn’t sure of what to expect when Tsunade talked to her about you, so it was a nice surprise to say the least.
🌸 She treated you kindly the whole time, as if it was a way to redeem herself on the way she treated Naruto in the past. She knew the stress most Jinchuriki went through and she didn’t wanted that to affect her task or your relationship (platonic or not).
🌸 At first, it was only going to be another learning experience for her, but she found a friend in you and someone to protect. After meeting you and helping you, she felt strong enough to show Naruto and Sasuke how much she had improved
🌸 Her aspiration of no longer looking at the backs of her teammates, but walking alongside them, was becoming a reality.
Neji:
🌀 It were his exceptional abilities as a shinobi that had him assigned as your guard. He was the first of his generation of ascending to the Jonin rank, he was more than capable for the job.
🌀 You were the Sanbi Jinchuriki so you were considered important part of Konoha’s war power. Your security was top tier priority.
🌀 Neji took his role very seriously and went everywhere with you even if you insisted that you didn’t need protection. He followed you like your shadow.
🌀 Besides the possibility of the Sanbi being stolen by the enemy, there was the risk of the seal breaking. A disaster like the one that happened with the Kyuubi was out of the question, he wasn’t going to let it happen.
🌀 For him, at the beginning, it was another task, another part of his path of becoming stronger and honouring the name of his clan, but as he spent more time with you, you two became really close.
🌀 So of course he got more protective because he started to care about you for real.
🌀 He knew that the responsibility of carrying such a beast inside you weighted heavily on your shoulders so he tried to make it less terrible for you by trying to distract you and helping you carry a somewhat normal life.
🌀 He helped you train to release your pent up frustration, teaching you meditation to sharpen your senses and let you vent when you are were too stressed.
🌀 Being a Jinchuriki was hard, but with him by your side, wasn’t that bad.
————————————————————————
I loved writing this one so much!! Specially Naruto’s part. I remember crying so much watching that arc 😭😭 thank you so much for your request!

24 HOURS - CHAPTER 2
[Alpha!Reader X Omega!Kiba]
Tumblr media
Summary: Having finished your 24 hour cycle with Neji, you were feeling optimistic about this whole drug induced hallucination/trip to the future. Although if yesterday felt a bit like a rollercoaster, today felt like free falling from a plane. GN!Alpha!Reader x Multi
Warnings: Talks of murder, some nudity. Nothing worse than the show, I think.
(Chapter 2 is finally out!! Woohoo!! Enjoy~ @omeganronpa)
Word count: 6.4k
Prologue - Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 - Chapter 4 - Chapter 5 - Chapter 6 - Epilogue
Unfortunately, the peaceful wake up from yesterday (did it even count as yesterday if it was an alternate timeline?) with the slow opening of eyes and returning to consciousness in a bed with the softest bedsheets you could imagine, didn’t want to make another appearance.
No, with this 24-hour cycle, the tone was set immediately when some kind of gremlin child jumped on you, crushing all the air out of your chest and abruptly rocketing you into consciousness.
You let out a little oof sound as you sat up, bedding falling around you. Automatically, you reached under your pillow for a kunai, but you were glad to find yourself empty handed when the face of a small child swam into clear view.
It took a few moments to realise what was happening, brief memories of cuddling with Neji lingering. The phrase you’d heard too many times decided to ring around your head again.
“You will have 24 hours with the seven people you could love the most and who could love you in return. Learn so that you may choose wisely.”
‘Yes, thank you, I’ve got it,’ you snapped inside your head, mentally waving the message away.
“Appa! It’s time to wake up!” the little boy on your lap demanded, little arms crossed seriously.
Belatedly, you realised there was a second child, who immediately started bouncing on your legs, clearly unimpressed by your dazed look. They looked about the same age, five or six years old, probably twins.
Your twins, you realised with a terrifying stomach lurch. Wasn’t that a weird thought?
“Oma told us to come get you,” the little girl said proudly, clearly happy with the responsibility or perhaps she just found glee in assaulting people awake. By the massive grin on her face, you had a sneaking suspicion that it was the second one. You also had a sneaking suspicion that the two familiar red markings on each of the twins’ cheeks gave away which one of your omega friends you were going to be spending the next 24-hour cycle with.
“Alright,” you said, trying to gain your bearings. “Go back to oma, I’ll be through in a moment.”
The twins bounced on you a few more times before running out of the room, shouting something to their not-so-mysterious oma and thankfully leaving you alone to gather your thoughts.
Right. You were in the second 24-hour cycle and along with a partner, you appeared to also have twin pups. That put extra pressure on you not to fuck this up.
Putting the pups to the side for a moment for your own sanity, you focused on the issue at hand: had you really hooked up with Kiba? He wouldn’t have been one of the people you expected to show up in this weird hallucination/trip to the future. Then again, neither had Neji.
Although now you were thinking about it, you could see it. He’d definitely been a feral child, but he’d really mellowed out over the past couple of years, from what you’d been able to see anyway. He’d bulked out, chilled out and he had a cute dog. Maybe himbos with dogs were your type and you just didn’t know it yet.
Theorising over your own romantic type completed, you got up before a second wake up call was sent and donned the dressing gown that was draped over the edge of your side of the bed.
The room itself had an incredibly different vibe to the room you’d fallen asleep in. If Neji preferred traditional minimalism and organisation, Kiba clearly preferred chaos. It was absolutely filled with things, kids’ toys, stacks of boxes, an overflowing wash bin and a large crib in the corner of the room.
Your heart jumped as you realised what you were looking at. Was there a baby?! Would you be expected to tend to the baby and take it through with you? Would forgetting the baby be an immediate red flag that you weren’t who you said you were?
No, stop, deep breaths. You didn’t even know if there was a baby in the crib yet because of the blanket covering the side you could see.
Slowly, you approached the crib, fingers crossed that it was empty. Five-year-old twins you could deal with, but an infant would quickly expose your lack of knowledge over parenting. You peeked over the top and were incredibly relieved to see that the crib was both empty and lacking a base, so presumably not currently in use. Thank kami for that.
Bullet dodged, you went to the door, stopping only for a moment to take a look at yourself in the mirror. You looked about the same age as yesterday’s version of you, but where you and Neji appeared interested in pups but waiting for the right moment, you and Kiba clearly didn’t agree with such methods.
“Appa!” a voice shouted from the other room.
Right, you had to go.
You followed the sound of voices and sizzling pans downstairs, but with each step, dread began to grow in your stomach. The number of voices you were hearing sounded like Kiba plus three others. Did you really have three pups? Already?
No, you figured out as you rounded the corner at the bottom of the stairs. You didn’t have three pups, you had four pups.
The room you had walked into was open plan, with the kitchen, dining table and living room all being visible from where you stood at the bottom of the stairs. The ‘décor’ from the bedroom had been carried through to the rest of the house. There were dog toys and children’s toys mingled into a combined pile from which you couldn’t differentiate which was which, piles of books, even a box of what looked like miscellaneous weapons that appeared to have been placed at the very specific height of ‘the twins can’t reach’.
The boy in the kitchen, perhaps about nine or so, was stirring something on the counter, standing on a little stool so that he could reach. The man beside him was definitely, 100% Kiba, who was tending to a frying pan on the hob.
There was also a girl sitting in the living room, who looked just a tad younger than the boy, head buried in a thick book that she was halfway through. She had a larger than you remembered Akamaru cuddled up on her lap.
And of course, the twins you had met earlier were performing some kind of horrendous duet under the dining room table, a bottle of shampoo and a hairbrush acting as stand in microphones. Despite yours and Kiba’s obvious disregard for contraception, you were at least glad for the foresight not to provide them with real microphones.
You had four pups. Four.
Actually, scratch that, because as Kiba turned towards you, the wolfish grin he was known for on his face, he revealed his massive tummy.
Four and another one on the way… Hence the empty crib, you mind helpfully supplied.
Is this the version of your life where you go crazy from the loneliness and make it your sole goal in life to never be alone ever again?
“Babe,” Kiba grinned at you. He was wearing pyjamas too, like all the kids. At least you fit in. “I didn’t realise you were so wiped out from your mission, you’re normally up way before now!”
Before you could process that and think of a generic reply, Kiba walked towards you in big strides and grabbed your face, slamming his lips against your eagerly.
It was nothing like the comparatively innocent kiss you’d shared with Neji last night, no, this was passionate and fiery, the kind of kiss where no one’s tongue remained where it was supposed to.
The kiss stole all the oxygen from your lungs and all the thoughts from your brain. Kiba was incredibly warm under your touch. In fact, everything was warm. The vibes of the whole house were warm. You decided then and there, with Kiba’s tongue down your throat, that you’d rather had a warm but messy home over your boring, standard issue shinobi flat any day.
When he pulled away, you were left stunned, the only working brain cell you had left was desperately trying to keep you from actively drooling.
“Oma,” the oldest boy interrupted, knocking you back to reality. You looked over and the boy had moved his little stool and was now tending the pan that Kiba had a minute ago. “Breakfast is burning.”
You had somehow survived long enough to sit down and eat, even though it had been awkward attempting to find the cutlery draw and challenging to remove the twins (Your twins! How bizarre!) from under the table.
Other than that, though, you had to admire how smoothly Kiba pulled it off. You couldn’t imagine serving four pups breakfast every day was easy, but the twins were happily gobbling up their cereal, the older girl had sandwiches with the crusts cut off and the older boy had the same cooked breakfast that you and Kiba had. (Akamaru had a mix of dog and human food in his bowl which sat at the side of the table, of course.)
It hit you suddenly, amongst the chatter, that you were at a family breakfast. How long had it been since you had one of those?
It hadn’t occurred to you that this 24-hour hallucination/trip to the future could include pups, but in hindsight you should have probably considered it. It wasn’t bad, it was just… more pressure not to screw it up.
Like, you should presumably parent them, but you didn’t really know how. You watched as the twin girl obviously geared up to flick a piece of cereal at her older brother, unsure how to stop it.
“Akemi, eat your cereal, don’t throw it on Minoru,” Kiba said absently, throwing a piece of meat from his plate to Akamaru. Right, the girl twin was called Akemi and the eldest was Minoru. You definitely needed to remember that.
“I wasn’t doing anything!” the girl denied, pointing it at her twin. “It was Kaito! You’re getting us confused.”
“It was not me!” Kaito squawked indignantly. Okay, the male twin was Kaito. You just needed the elder daughter’s name, the one with the book, but she’d brought said book to the table and didn’t seem much interested in joining the conversation. Ah, scratch that, her bookmark had her name on it: Ichika.
So, it was Minoru, Ichika, Akemi and Kaito. Got it.
“I literally watched you, Akemi.”
“Did you though?” she grinned a grin very similar to her oma’s. “Can you prove it?”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever you little monster,” he ruffled her hair as she giggled. “Eat your cereal before I donate it to Akamaru.”
You also took Kiba’s advice and turned to your own food. It was different than Neji’s cooking, but definitely not bad. It felt hearty, like the kind of food you’d eat on return from a mission. Neji’s food was traditional and much lighter.
As far as which was better, free food was free food. If someone had lovingly cooked you breakfast, you weren’t going to start ranking it against other breakfasts. That would be rude.
It was only after you’d almost cleared your plate that you noticed that Kiba had barely touched his food and seemed to be playing with it more than anything, cutting it up and pushing it around to create the allusion that he was eating.
Kiba ‘I once challenged Naruto to a ramen eating contest, ate twelve bowls and then threw up in a hedge’ Inuzuka wasn’t eating his breakfast. How strange.
Kiba looked up at that moment and noticed you looking at him. He playfully kicked your foot under the table, clearly well practiced in its exact location, and mouthed ‘morning sickness’ at you. You winced in sympathy, figuring that morning sickness this late in the pregnancy was super unfortunate. He did look a little queasy now that you focused on him and his muscular arms, no that wasn’t helpful brain, stop it, but the second Minoru looked up at him, his grin was back in place as though nothing had ever been wrong.
He was hiding that he was feeling unwell from the pups for some reason. Automatically, you thought that he should get scented by his alpha, something which reduces morning sickness for pregnant omegas, only to belatedly realise that you were his alpha and you would have to be the one to scent him. You blushed red and tried to hide your face by taking a long drink from your glass. Yes, technically you had Kiba’s tongue in your mouth not long ago but scenting just felt a lot more… intimate. You started to imagine it for a moment but quickly had to stop lest an awkward problem arise, and you taint the memory of this delightful family breakfast.
“Appa, how did the baby get in oma’s tummy? Did he eat it?” Kaito suddenly asked, looking up at you with wide, innocent eyes.
Just as you were starting to relax.
“Ah, well, you see,” you started, looking to Kiba for help. Like the arsehole he was, he simply snorted and said nothing. You had no idea what you’d told the pups already. They were only five, so they didn’t need details, but did you lie to pups this age about sex? “There’s a special thing that adult couple can do if they love each other very much, and sometimes that ends up in a baby growing.”
Kaito squinted his eyes at you for a moment.
“Adult things? Like alcohol and kissing?”
“Yes!” you agreed immediately, happy to put this behind you as fast as possible. “Exactly like alcohol and kissing, it’s super gross.”
Kiba lost it, cackling at full volume and setting off everyone at the table, even though most of them didn’t get the joke.
“Super gross,” Kiba agreed. “But only if you do it right.”
“Kiba!”
The rest of breakfast thankfully passed quickly and painlessly. You spent most of your time observing Kiba as that was what you were technically here for after all. He was a very attentive oma, you had to admit. He wiped faces, cracked jokes, cut up food and cleaned up spills, all while heavily pregnant and feeling sick. He had matured a lot from the young man you knew, but his personality was still there, shining brightly underneath the responsible actions. Sometimes it burnt brighter than others, like when he got into a rock, paper, scissors fight with Minoru over the last slice of toast and defeat him with tickles instead of rock, paper, scissors, only to give the last piece to Minoru anyway.
It was so nice to have breakfast with a group of people for once, especially people that loved you.
After breakfast, everyone had dressed and the pups had taken off to play outside and make the most of the summer weather, although Minoru had needed a little convincing to leave Kiba to do the chores while pregnant, only leaving when you had double pinkie promised to do most of it.
(“It’s summer!” Kiba had said. “We can handle the cleaning, go have some fun!”)
When the backdoor swung shut behind the last pup, Kiba let out a sigh of relief, immediately leaning against the kitchen counter and bringing a hand to rub his face. His whole demeanour changed completely in an instant.
“Are you alright?” you asked, moving over to him. “Still feeling sick?”
“Yeah,” he sighed. “I can’t wait for this morning sickness thing to fuck off, I can’t believe I’ve had it for like eight months.”
He sent a weak grin that was interrupted by a wince. It hurt to see your friend/mate in pain, so you opened your arms, offering him a hug in the hopes it’d make him feel better. He accepted enthusiastically, and although his bump made things a little difficult, he plastered himself to you as best as he could, nosing at the scent gland on your neck in a way that felt unfamiliar and ticklish, but not unpleasant.
As the nosing got more and more aggressive, you belatedly realised that he needed your scent to calm his nausea and you were just standing there doing nothing. Panicking at the thought of him thinking you were withholding help on purpose, you immediately unleashed a little bit too much of your scent.
Thankfully, Kiba didn’t seem to mind being metaphorically smacked in the face with a wall of your scent. He relaxed against you, still so warm, ridiculously warm in fact. Were all Inuzuka this warm or just Kiba?
“Thanks,” Kiba muttered against you, a powerful purr emitting from his chest as presumably his nausea subsided. “The last three pregnancies were nowhere this bad, but I guess one out of four isn’t bad odds.”
You laughed a little.
“I know some parents who would kill for odds like that, although I don’t know many that make it all the way to four.”
You felt his grin against your neck seconds before his teeth followed. You jumped a little at the affectionate bite.
“It’s annoying trying to hide it too,” Kiba continued after he’d removed his teeth from your flesh. “But Minoru has been so freaked out since he had that sex ed class at school. He’s convinced I’m gonna just drop dead the moment I go into labour, and I don’t want to stress him out more by making him think I’m sick.”
Ah, that was why he’d been hiding it.
“I thought he’d calm down once I explained that Inuzuka are built differently, that we’re safe when we give birth, but he’s still on edge and I think that’s what’s causing his nightmares, too. I just don’t want him to feel responsible for me or worried that my pregnancy is a ticking time bomb that ends in my death, y’know?”
“You really care about them a lot,” you said before your filter could stop you.
Kiba pulled out of your embrace and gave you a weird look. You flushed as you realised what you’d said and rushed to explain yourself. Kiba cut you off with a barking laugh, sounding a little like Akamaru.
“You mean my pups?” he asked playfully. “My pack? I care about them more than anything in this entire world and I’ll kill anyone who ever touches any of you, that’s a promise.”
Maybe you shouldn’t have found his promise of violence so hot, but you definitely did. If he said these sorts of things often, you could understand why you had so many pups now. And you’d spent all evening yesterday cuddling with Neji, so you didn’t even have the ‘lonely’ excuse to justify getting all hot and bothered.
“Ugh,” Kiba groaned, looking around the room and killing the mood immediately. “I know we promised that we’d clean yesterday, but do we have to?”
You snorted despite yourself, something which Kiba too offense to if the growl and the punch on the arm you received was anything to go by.
“Take a look around and you tell me,” you teased him, gesturing to a pile of dog treats that looked like they’d been co opted to play Jenga with.
“Fine,” he huffed. “But I have to keep stocking the birthing nest, so you can handle in here. Bye!”
“Wha-“
He was already gone before you could protest, his laughter echoing down as he darted up the stairs, too nimbly for someone that pregnant.
You shook your head, amused. Oh well, it would probably be good to have some alone time to clean and sort out your thoughts. A lot had happened over the last two hours after all.
About an hour and a half of cleaning later, four pairs of human feet and four dog feet came running back into the house, tracking mud over the thankfully not yet cleaned floor.
“Don’t run in the house,” you half-heartedly chastised, figuring that sounded like something a responsible parent would say.
“My idea is better!” Akemi said, ignoring you completely. “Yours is annoying!”
“No! Pillow fights are way better than lame movies! We watch movies all the time!” Kaito argued back.
They both turned to you simultaneously, fisting onto the bottom of your shirt, one standing on each side.
“Appa!” they both demanded. “Tell her/him my idea is better!”
You blinked at both of them, brain stalling, but you were distracted as you caught Ichika wincing at the shouting and covering her ears with her hands. You frowned in concern. You had noticed that she was a quieter pup that preferred books to people; she was probably at the end of her ‘chaos tether’ after an hour in the garden with the screeching twins.
“Alright,” you said, holding up a hand to stop the twins from making their respective cases for the afternoon entertainment. “Let’s keep the noise down a little, okay?”
Kaito opened his mouth to argue, but Kiba, who had just come to the bottom of the stairs interrupted him.
“There will be no pillow fights or movies right now, because you’re all covered in mud, so it’s bath time.”
“Oma!” they whined, letting go of your shirt and running to him instead. “There’s not that much mud! You’re unfair!”
Kiba only laughed at them.
“Right! You two first then, just for that, go upstairs.”
Minoru rolled his eyes at their actions and went into the kitchen and started cutting up some fruit as a snack before his bath. Ichika was sitting on the armchair now, but she still had her hands over her ears and her eyes shut. You could only imagine the noise that would come from bathing the twins, and you weren’t sure she’d appreciate it, even if the noise was muted and coming from upstairs.
“Babe,” the pet name slipped out without your permission but you pointedly ignored your blush and carried on. “Are you okay to handle bathing the twins alone? I think I need to take Ichika out for some quiet time.”
You watched as Kiba’s eyes dart over to her and his face softened.
“Of course, I can handle the twins,” he agreed. “They’ve got nothing on the kind of terror I was at bath time when I was their age, I’ve got this. Come on you two! March! Bathroom!”
“Can Akamaru come?” Kaito asked.
“No, he won’t fit in with both of you little gremlins, unless you’d rather get hosed down in the garden with Akamaru instead? We can do that.”
You quietly approached Ichika as the protests and arguments over having Akamaru join the twins in the bath continued behind you.
“Let’s go outside for a minute, sweetie,” you whispered, offering a hand that she quickly took.
“What if Akamaru just sat on the toilet, then can he come for bath time?”
You led her out the back door, the debate inside fading away as the door shut behind you. The garden was exactly as you’d expected it to be, a big open grass space for the human and canine pups to run around in, a little paddling pool in the corner, dog and children’s play balls littered around, a hose that was definitely part of the reason for the mud, a climbing frame and a casual seating and BBQ area at the very back. As you took in a deep breath of the Konoha summer air, you imagined the days you must spend out here, cooking food, laughing, maybe Kiba or your team and any of their pups would be there too, splashing around in the paddling pool or playing football.
You imagined all the details. The outfits, the food, the jokes, the little table at the back of the seating area that was definitely for alcohol. It was weirdly emotional to imagine being a part of that. Shino and Hinata would definitely come, as would Naruto, Sai and Sakura, you’d have to drag Sasuke of course, but that would be part of the fun. How many pups would you have between you all? If you and Kiba had five, there would probably be at least 8-10 pups in attendance.
It would be fun. But now, that seating area was going to be used for a different purpose. You led Ichika to one of the sofas and sat her down, sitting down next to her and wrapping an arm around her shoulders. You imagined that she was probably somewhere between lonely from the lack of attention today and also overstimulated, so you decided against speaking and instead just held her to your side. It felt strangely natural considering she was basically a stranger to you, but you had instincts on your side. Regardless of your rational mind, your base line instincts knew she was yours and that you had to protect her and make sure she was okay. You were her appa for the next few hours and it was your job to make the hurt all better.
‘Was she even a real child though?’ you thought suddenly. She felt real under your arm, she breathed, she snuggled into you like a real child, she lowered her hands from her ears as she relaxed, just like a real child. But you hadn’t technically made the decisions that would make her yet and maybe you never would.
You pushed those thoughts down with a shake of your head. It didn’t matter because she was real now, the way she fisted her hand in your shirt  was real and how she purred as you scratched the back of her neck was real. Even if she ceased to exist tomorrow, her pain and comfort mattered because she mattered, existentialism would help no one.
At that moment, she climbed properly onto your lap and buried her little head into your chest, the tiny pup purrs automatically forcing purrs from you in response. This was your pup, your instincts screamed, comfort her, love her.
You still didn’t speak, wanting to wait for her to do so first, but with this new angle, you could stroke her hair. The weight and warmth of her in your lap soothed your frayed instincts, but it wasn’t enough to calm your negative thoughts.
If you didn’t go for this life, you would never see Ichika again, or Minoru or Kaito or Akemi. They would simply cease to exist at some point tonight. Kiba would be there, and maybe he’d find someone else to give him these pups, but it wouldn’t be the same.
Ha, this 24-hour thing was more emotionally draining than you thought it’d be. It was physically draining too, being a parent of four and a partner to someone heavily pregnant. There would be many occasions, if you chose this life, where one child needed special attention at the expense of spending time with the others, just like now. It would be a massive responsibility having this many pups. Could you handle it? If you chose this life, could you be good enough for these pups, because they deserved nothing but the best parent.
Was the ‘full house’ style family even something you wanted? You thought for a minute, and while the version of you a couple of days ago would have probably shied away from such a thing, you could see it now, after living it for a bit. The laughter and the cuddles were constant and there wasn’t a second where your home wasn’t filled with love.
Ichika pulled away from your chest for a moment and looked up at you.
“Appy?”
“Hmm?”
“Can you read me a story tonight please?” she asked, shyly looking down. “Just me?”
You basically melted at her cuteness.
“Of course,” you agreed, despite knowing nothing about evening plans or bedtime routines. “What sort of story?”
“I like the one with the baker and the ninja solving mysteries together, it’s the yellow book on the tall shelf in my room.”
“Okay,” you agreed easily. You didn’t have to worry about choosing your future just yet, you still had more days to live. That was a problem for future you, present you needed to find that yellow book and also make sure Kiba had survived bath time with the terrible twins.
Unfortunately, you never did get to read her that story.
When the baths were done, watching a movie won the most votes for the late afternoon entertainment, so you had settled down as the time ticked on and the sky grew darker and soon it was almost time for bed.
Everyone was packing up the blankets and snack debris from the film when Kaito asked for a glass of water.
“Sure thing,” Kiba said, bopping him on the nose. “Wait here, I’ll get it.”
The room was quiet for a little while until you heard the faint sound of water droplets hitting the floor.
“Babe, can you make a clone to go and fetch my mum?”
“What?” you asked, baffled. He wanted you to get Tsume? You turned around to see Kiba standing in the Kitchen with suspiciously damp pyjama shorts and a puddle on the ground between his legs.
Your mind stalled as you realised what this meant.
“Seems like the baby finally wants to say hello.”
You tried desperately to keep a lid on your panic, but it was quickly boiling over despite your best efforts. Kiba was leading you towards a door in your bedroom that you’d previously assumed to be an ensuite, but it was clearly a nesting room.
His mother had just left with all your pups, overnight bags in hand, to look after them while Kiba gave birth. Poor Minoru had had a fit, demanding to stay with Kiba and crying his little heart out. In the end, Tsume had to carry him out of the door as he screamed for you and his oma. You could tell that it had put Kiba on edge, his instincts sending him mixed signals about what he should be focusing on.
So, you were trying not to upset him more by panicking. But, as he opened the door to the nesting room, you realised that you were absolutely panicking.
The nest was nice, very comfortable looking and stocked with all the supplies that you’d need, but it being nice didn’t stop you feeling like an imposter. Kiba was going to be incredibly vulnerable here and he deserved a real mate, not an imposter.
You tried to calm yourself down by remembering that this technically wasn’t real, and if it ever became real, you would be his real mate with actual helpful knowledge and experience. It didn’t help much because it certainly felt real enough to panic about, no matter what your rational mind decided.
Were you going to have to help him literally deliver the pup, you thought suddenly, heart racing.  Kiba had said that Inuzuka pregnancies were different, easier, but how different? How much easier?
You stumbled into the nest after Kiba, just about managing to close the door behind you despite the mess you mind was in.
“Minoru will be fine,” Kiba said suddenly, probably misreading the cause of your panic. “He’s done this twice before and we both know I’ll be okay, and he’s got grandma there with him too.”
He sounded like he was trying to convince himself as much as he was trying to convince you.
“You’re right,” you said, taking a deep breath and sitting beside him. Kiba needed your support here. It wasn’t about you right now.
“Then let’s get started. I want to meet the little monster that’s been beating me up from the inside for almost a year.”
You snorted, panic abating for a second as the stressful atmosphere broke. Kiba was good at that; he could change the atmosphere of a place with only a sentence.
And then Kiba started stripping, pulling off his top and throwing it off into the corner of the nest before starting on the bottoms. Oh, you should have predicted that he’d want to be naked in his birthing nest.
Strangely tough, comparative to how flustered you’d felt when Neji had pulled his shirt off in front of you, even though you only saw his back, it didn’t feel strange. I mean, you had seen Kiba almost naked a few times already, he had almost no shame after all, but the panic and the fact that this nudity was linked to childbirth killed all sexual attraction. He wasn’t there for sex; he was there to give birth and it was only natural that he be naked while he did it.
When he was completely naked, Kiba curled up on his side, breathing deeply. He needed his mate, and for the moment, that was you.
“You’re alright, deep breaths,” you cooed at Kiba, spooning him from behind as he winced in pain. His contractions were getting more intense now. The first few hours had mainly been spent feeding him snacks and playing board games, but things were speeding up now. “You’re doing so well, I’m so proud of you.”
“I’m doing this for us, for our family,” Kiba panted, squeezing your hand. “I would do anything for our pack, for you, anything.”
One thing you’d learnt this evening was that Kiba was surprisingly romantic, in his own feral kind of way. You’d also learnt that childbirth was terrifying, but you’d been trying to ignore that fact because it wasn’t helping you focus.
“Anyone who tries to hurt us will be dead,” Kiba promised, a concerning glint in his eyes. “I’ll rip their throat out with my teeth, because I chose you, because my pups are parts of me, no one will hurt them. I won’t allow it!”
You growled appreciatively at his words; they were pulling on all of your possessive instincts.
“You wouldn’t have to, because I’d kill them first.”
“Psh, as if,” Kiba disagreed, flashing his teeth at you. “Me and Akamaru would get there first obvoiusly.”
You decided to let the omega in labour win the debate for the time being. You looked at the clock and saw that it was about 01:30 in the morning. You had no idea when you’d be switching to the next 24-hour cycle because it had happened in your sleep last time. As much as you had enjoyed your day with Kiba, and your various pups, you hoped that you switched soon, before the baby decided it was time to say hello.
You sent a quick mental plea to the mysterious fortune teller, asking that the next partner be a little more chill; you were going to need a serious break after this cycle.
Kiba tugged on your hand, pulling himself and you up into a sitting position.
“You need to give me more attention, I can’t settle,” he said bluntly, staring at you. “You’re being too stiff and don’t think I didn’t notice you still wearing your clothes. Is something wrong?”
Your heart jumped. Of course, you weren’t doing as good a job as his real mate must have done, even though you were technically the same person.
“Sorry, I-“ you struggled to think of an excuse. You picked the first thing you could think of. “I’m just worried about Minoru. I feel like I need to stay clothed so I can run to him at the drop of a hat if I need to.”
Kiba’s eyebrows furrowed in concern and he nodded, he seemed to understand thankfully.
“I get that,” he said, voice surprisingly quiet. “I hated to hear him cry like that and honestly, I was close to letting him stay, but he’s with family, he’s safe and I need to feel you properly. It feels wrong.”
“I’m sorry,” you apologised sincerely. “I didn’t realise.”
“You can apologise by taking off shirt at least.”
You chuckled but agreed to take off your shirt. At this point, you were happy to do anything that could make him feel better, to make up for being a cheap knock off of the person he deserved. It didn’t feel awkward and uncomfortable, not with Kiba.
When your top half was bare, you drew him into an embrace. His skin was even warmer than earlier, and softer than you realised now that he was pressed against you properly. Kiba went limp in your arms, nosing at your scent glands and running his hands all over your back. You shivered as his fingers ran over a particularly sensitive bit. The way he traced your body was intimate and you tried to return the favour.
“That’s better,” Kiba sighed, sounding much more relaxed now. He didn’t say anything else for a while, content to nibble and lick at your neck while you held each other. Every now and then he would pull back and steal a kiss from your lips as well.
You traced little patterns and phrases over his skin, and although Kiba made no move to say the phrases out loud, you knew he was focused on them, because he would bite if you said something nice and bite harder if you said something funny or off topic, like he was playfully chastising you for teasing him.
Kiba was fun, you realised suddenly. He was fun. You had laughed all day, in fact, your cheeks hurt from smiling, wasn’t that weird.
Eventually, the patterns and phrases died down as you got lost in your own thoughts and it was over an hour later that Kiba broke the silence.
“They’re getting super close now, the contractions. Maybe two or so minutes apart. We’re nearly there.”
You were going to have to accept the fact that you may very well have to deliver this baby somehow. Maybe you should ask Kiba to run through exactly what you should do, just in case.
“Kiba, I-“ your words cut off as a blinding pain in your head stole your ability to speak.
You pulled away from Kiba as the pain spread, burning behind your eyes.
“What’s wrong?” Kiba asked. His voice sounded close, but you couldn’t see him. Water, you needed water.
You crawled in the direction of the stash of water bottles, but you didn’t quite make it, collapsing as your arms gave out supporting your weight.
“Alpha?! Alpha?! What’s wrong?! What’s going on?!” Kiba’s voice was warbled and distorted to your ears, but he sounded distressed. You wanted to reassure him, but your tongue wouldn’t cooperate.
You forced your eyes open and were met with Kiba’s worried face hovering over you and a view of the clock. As the clock ticked to 03:00, everything went black.
