WHEN YOU’RE BORN INTO THE LEES, ONE OF THE RICHEST FAMILIES OF THE CITY, YOU’RE UNDER EVERYONE’S EYES.
One mistake and you can dishonor your entire family line. That’s why they’re strict on you, the heiress of your father’s real estate firm. After your older brother Taeyong took over your mother’s hotel management business, monitoring all branches of such across the country and abroad, it’s a matter of time you take your place in the family.
After all, your future has already been pre-determined for you; from your career, lifestyle, and heck, even some of your friends. If they don’t pass mommy and daddy’s standards, might as well say bye-bye.
Standards ranging from having good grades, no nights out partying, no vices, dressing modestly, no cursing, and more, all of these things formed you into the good girl all throughout the city. You can never to disobey her family. So that’s how your life has spiral into for the past twenty-four years.
Not to mention attending Bible study every Saturday and Mass every Sunday, that’s the cherry on top on being an ideal woman in today’s society. That’s the thing when your family are diligent believers, praising for the Lord for His righteous acts for your family.
Or in other words, making your family richer and more successful each passing day.
As controlling it is, you never ought to complain. That’s the work of the devil, your mother says whenever she’d see your eyes fume from stress at times. Thus, you’re practically an angel to the eyes of the public. And no one would never second-guess your personality.
But boy, it’s always the good ones that shock the most.
“F-Fuck!” You gasp out, clutching on the edge of the table as a determined tongue swirls around your drenched womanhood. Such sensations are new to you, yet they’re so addicting. You can’t get enough, and never will any time soon.
How fast life runs when you’re merely skimming through your favorite Bible verses, reading them aloud with passion. Then in another frame, something else gets spread open with oozing content. How shy you became, yet didn’t refute and nodded to keep going. And poof, goes your beloved book in some random corner of the room.
“So sweet and innocent,” The man below you moans. “Your pussy is a dream come true.”
“Profani-Oh, God!” You try to call him out, but you’re dumbfounded when his slender fingers dart your hole back and forth. From the table, your fingers seek support from his brown locks.
“You were saying?” He peeks out from your floral dress, smirking. And god, it was the hottest thing your eyes laid on.
Lips puffy and dripping in your essence, he widens your legs more and continues diving in further. As soon as he finds that spot in you, nothing can hold your pleasure-building moans back. It’s something you’ve never felt before, or rather, something you should’ve saved for marriage. You’re doomed, or were you?
How can something so vulgar feel so heavenly?
“You may be religious to Him, and devoutly read the Bible, but you’re my religion.” He says in between lapping your clit and lower lips, slurping every bit of your wetness. “I lay my entire being for my one and only queen.”
Wetness he caused if not for his swoon-worthy charm and enchanting looks that makes you thank the Lord for bringing this man to you. Even if the two of you used to share judgmental looks out of generational hatred, love seeped its way through. And your heart cannot control who it wants to love, and same to him.
However, he’s poison to your life. If anyone in your family finds out that you’re sleeping around with the eldest son of your rival family, you’d meet your untimely doom.
But not only is he the eldest son, he’s also next in line of taking over his mother’s real estate company. Hence, spiking generations-old rivalry with your family. Aside of work, he’s your mother’s worst nightmare.
Massively notorious for his reckless behavior and the occasional scandals of his fights outside the bar with god knows who, he’s gotten away with it numerously because of his intelligence. You can only picture how dependent his parents are on him because his younger brother Sungchan is still in university, destined to inherit another family business. Other than him, there’s no more heir.
He acts like a God in this world, taking advantage of it.
Why? Because all he wants is freedom from everything. Even if he works hard and does his parts as an heir, he can’t commit to it entirely.
So he spits at anyone who gets in his way, always determined to get anything he wants. And easily, he does.
But that changed when you entered the picture, or rather reentered when he rejoined Bible study Saturdays 3 years ago. How pure you were then, leading everyone into prayer and such. How he loved riling you up to the point you blew up for the first time in a sea of curse words. How hard to get you were, even if you weren’t playing a game. How it took a single sweet kiss merely months after building a proper friendship, your first even. How such crazy lust and adventure rushed through your veins for more led to true, absolute love.
He corrupted you, but in the best way possible.
Jeong Jaehyun may be the owner of your undying affection, yet he remains your dirty little secret. And from all the years of your life, you’re choosing to rebel. It may be in private, but in time, it’ll break down its doors. Because you finally realized how you deserved so much better.
You are your own person, and you’re meant to make your choices. To be controlled like a puppet is not living, nor being tossed around as the good girl image. That’s the fault of your parents, pressuring you over and over again to uphold it or else the consequences will be grave. If not for Jaehyun, you’d never realize it. He too resonates with such thoughts, and the both of you ought to break the cycle of hatred when your time to rise in power comes.
After all, love makes you do risky things.
Just like this very moment in the Bible study room of the church, empty for the past hours.
After you and Jaehyun pretended to fight in front other rich, influential kids in the session, one of the nuns put you two on duty to clean up as punishment.
Little did they know, it was all an act so you spend more time with him. Yet it’s also a trip down memory lane of how your relationship began, when the hatred was real while working together only to be exchanged with developing love.
Lately, neither of your apartments are safe from the public eye, and motels are becoming risky to book. Vacation homes can’t be used either as both of your parents have CCTV access.
You’ll just have to make do. Anything for the love of your life.
He continues to be relentless in making you fall apart in his hands like glass, crashing blindly and powerfully. The gushing sounds of your pussy squelching and soaking his fingers, which he uses to lift up the hood of your clit.
Erect and puffy, his tongue aims to stimulate it the most.
Your throat runs dry and your thighs shake mercilessly from yet grind against Jaehyun’s satisfied face. Mascara-filled tears escape your lids, then your stomach can feel a knot ready to unwind.
“Jaehyun!” You almost scream as your mind only chant and think of him at this moment. Your hand fires up to your lips to avoid suspicion, and Jaehyun’s quick to notice muffled moans.
“Yah.” His pace slows down.
“Yes, Jae?”
“Let your hand go, or I won’t make you come.” He orders.
You’ve gone this far, and you won’t allow having your orgasm get denied. As much as you like to get your way always, sex would be the only thing with compromises. And Jaehyun has denied your orgasms numerously, so you’re at a loss.
“Sorry, baby.” You follow, lowering your hand.
He smiles from under your dress. “It’s okay, love. Now let me continue to feel good, hmm?”
Jaehyun’s the one who led you through the acts of sex. You can’t deny how intimidated you felt by that, but he’s never pressured you to do anything you’re not comfortable with. Step by step, you already know what’s it like having his fingers toying with your core while your hands and lips around his cock.
He’s a sweet and passionate lover, unlocking the door of the joys of being eaten out.
Double the penetration, double the speed of your orgasm. Jaehyun’s tongue and fingers are partners to this sexual deed, and you can only just anticipate what happens next.
“I’m so close…“ You choke.
“Let go, baby. You deserve it.”
Hard and breathtaking. That’s how your orgasm felt.
Your lips emit an elongated moan as you came in Jaehyun’s mouth. Your entire body shivers, sweating behind your gorgeous designer dress. How tainted it makes you feel, yet also heavenly. You say hello to the angels up there, who may only look down at you for your so-called “forbidden” deeds.
How you’re the forbidden fruit, and Jaehyun is one of God’s beloved children who lusted for it.
He hums louder to match your noise, bringing your thighs closer to lick your core more. Helping you ride out your high, your lungs heave hastily as if they ran a marathon. With one final kiss to your clit, he gets up from his knees and doesn’t waste a second to collide his lips with yours.
The taste of you lingers in every exchange, your arms naturally wrap behind his nape. His hands grip your waist, making your legs tangle around his lower torso. The two of you cannot simply get enough of each other, tongues clashing for dominance and filthy moans echoing the room.
“You’re such a good girl for me.” He says.
“Always.” You reply. “Only for you.”
“Not even for your family?”
“Except for my brothers, fuck them.”
Your making out session gets so heated instantaneously. It’s never felt like this before, and you cannot get your hands off Jaehyun. Whether it’s how good he is to make you come like that or his presence making you feel so at ease, you wanted more. Heck, you desired whatever this man can give you.
Or rather, you deeply desired him to deflower you.
“Jaehyun, I--”
“Yes?”
“I want--" Before you can continue your sentence, your phone beside you vibrates.
Calling: Demon Mother
“Oh, shit.” Your lips parts from your lover, while he keeps going by pecking your neck. You’re strict with lovebites, but it’s nothing too harsh.
For now.
“Be quiet.” You glare from the side.
He smiles sinisterly. “When am I not?”
Rolling your eyes, you tap on the green button on your phone. “Hello?”
“Where are you, miss? We have a dinner with important people in your father’s company in 3 hours!” Her voice booms through even Jaehyun get startled. Yet you’re used to it, and it sucks.
“It’s not easy to clean a whole room even with a partner, mom.”
“It’s not my fault you couldn’t keep your hatred from the Jeongs as discreet as us. We are never to go low and battle with such a scandalous family like theirs.”
You sigh. Even if it’s a fake fight, news got around quickly in your elite world.
“Anyways, I’m packing up and heading my way.”
“You better, or you’re gonna hear it worse from your father too.” She hungs abruptly, and you sulk on your position.
“Is she mad?” Jaehyun stands more upright, yet you don’t give him eye contact out of shame. “Talk to me, baby. Please.”
“You heard her, Jaehyun.” You say. “She dare insults the family of my lover, the one I can never shout my affections out to the world.”
“Angel.” A nickname he uses it when sadness overtakes your mind and soul. His hands cradle your face that shifts it so you can look at him. Which you do. “This is the kind of love we signed up for.”
“But I didn’t ask for this kind of life.” Your heart wrenches. “I want to be able to live and love freely. No prejudice nor judgement. Don’t you think God was cruel for this fate?”
Jaehyun sighs in agreement. Religion this, religion that. All his life his parents taught him that if he doesn’t follow his family, he disobeys the Almighty. Only to later realize that he was manipulated; brainwashed that his parents are on the same level as Him.
How wrong and immoral.
He may have lost his faith, yet it was momentarily restored when you waltzed into his life like a dancer. A couple of failed turns, only to transform into a beautiful variation.
“If there’s only one good thing He gave me,” You sense his calloused fingers brush over your frizzled hair, tucking them behind your ear. “It was you. His favorite angel.”
Your heart swoons while a tear freely falls down your cheek. “I love you, Jaehyun.”
“I love you more, (Y/N).” His lips kiss yours a little longer. It’s unpredictable when you’ll see each other again, or spend hours being by his side. And so you both savor every meeting, peck, touch, laugh, moment you have with each other.
Because things can drastically change in a heartbeat. At least for you, it did.
That very dinner later in the evening wasn’t merely to celebrate your father’s company ranking high up across the country. Defintely topping the Jeongs, which has been a long-term goal these past years. He speaks of merging companies with his colleague, the Kims. Much to your naivety, you’re the main pawn in his game.
“Be a good girl and follow daddy in this venture.” He speaks in his professional voice in his office, where you and your mother sit and listen. Sipping on his whiskey, he awaits your response. Good girls only talk when being spoken to, but it’s merely a façade now. A façade you acted perfectly in.
“How can I be of help, daddy?” How you wished you didn’t ask such a question.
“You’ll be marrying into the Kim family in the next couple of months, specifically their oldest son who’s bound to take over their company right after your wedding ceremony.”

Absolute fear.
That was what was written all over Doyoung’s face as soon as they stood in the lobby waiting to be called by the advertisement team.
They were standing in the middle of a huge lobby inside of a huge building in the district where huge corporations stood proudly beside each other. Among these huge buildings with helipads at the top and their logo standing tall in the air, is a mere subgroup of the JBG group of companies, Jacks and Heels Clothing. One of the country’s most popular producers of clothing items, often found cheap in streets of the city. Rumor has it that the company popularized the style of clothing that Korea wears predominantly.
Now, why was Doyoung all nervously chewing on the straw of his drink as soon as they entered the building.
The elevator door opens and one of the interns of the advertisement team guides them into a huge room, which was already prepared for a shooting. There were nearly 30 people from Jacks and Heels, and 20 from their styling team. The dressing room was a bit further back, but before they could even walk back there they were to greet the person in charge of this project.
She was sitting among the directors of the shoot, holding a folder in her hands. Even with her back against the group of young men, it was nearly impossible to miss her. Her low ponytail and clean look was her signature for as long as Doyoung could remember, that and her necklace, one that resembled the one he had around his neck.
“Director Jung, NCT 127 are here.” The intern walks up to one of the directors of the company.
Almost immediately she turns around and searches through the crowd of nine boys, one that landed on the boy at the back. She tries her best to control her emotions as soon as she sees him. The boys greet their signature greeting yet her eyes seem to mock the person at the back. As soon as all their heads were raised again, she reached out towards the necklace around her neck, one that she rarely took off in the 25 years she’s been alive.
“I hope we all have a smooth shooting today,” she smiles at them before lightly bowing towards them.
That was their cue before heading towards the dressing area, to get themselves ready. In all honesty, Doyoung thought he was safe, he made up all sorts of scenarios in his head about her needing to leave the advertisement team because of a meeting. He was trying his best to think about a convenient plot for him, one that involved her leaving before he shoots his solo pictures. Yet his mind also created scenes where things play out for the worst, one where Director Jung’s brother and father walk in while he shoots his stuff.
Well, they would eventually see things when it gets posted.
“Doyoung?” One of the team members from JBG calls out his name, meaning it was time for him to shoot his part after getting all dressed up.
In normal shoots he would stand in front of a mirror figuring out poses that would accentuate the products he was wearing, but today all he did was sit in the chair even after he’s had his hair and make up finished. All he did was stare at his reflection pondering about the infinite possibilities that could happen.
Walking towards the set, he saw the person he didn't want to see the most still standing behind the monitor and talking to the photography directors. He couldn’t even register why the company director was here, was this such a huge project that it required her presence? Or was she here for another agenda of hers.
“Alright,” just at that moment director Jung stands from her seat and walks towards the set, stopping right behind the photographer, “Dongyoung, focus on pants.” She instructs him using his birth name, causing those who were paying close attention to react to this interaction.
He coughs as a response, yet he was in no position to retaliate. At this moment, it became very obvious what she was doing here even if she was the director of the company.
Doyoung stands there posing using the props on set, while trying his best to accentuate the pants he was wearing. A few shots later, he stands in front of the monitor to check on the pictures that were taken. He checked if he looked well and his poses weren’t awkward, yet anyone could tell that he was a little more stiff than usual.
“Dongyoung,” she approaches him once again, “can you calm down a bit?” Rather than as an instruction it came out in a mocking term. And it had everything in him to not turn around and roll his eyes at her.
Instead he just nods his head, as she was standing rather close to him, and turns around back into the set. This time, he tried even harder to make her disappear from his sight, since the more knowledgeable he was of her presence the more difficult it became for him to not turn into a rock, or doll.
“Is this enough, Jinah?” He mutters to himself as he walks back towards the monitor to check on his poses.
Upon standing by the huge monitor, Jinah stands a little too close beside him, with their shoulders nearly touching. This time, unlike how it was a while ago, since they were preparing for the next person, there weren't a lot of people around them. The set was changing and his manager was busy calling out the next person to take photos.
“Nice to see you again,” she crosses her arms over her chest and leans in a bit to make sure not a lot of people could listen into their conversation.
“You’re here on purpose, right?” The photos were only passing by, but both their attention weren’t on it.
“Can you blame me?” Director Jung, who Doyoung has always simply known as Jinah, glares at him from her height. “We’re friends, why won’t I come rushing here when the friend who decided to cut all ties appears in front of me.”
“Us?” Doyoung points between the two of them. “Friends?” He audibly puffs at the thought. “You and I know full well that this isn’t the case.”
Jinah sighs. “Unlike you, I don’t determine our relationship by something the oldies decided upon.”
“The necklace tells you otherwise.”
“Seriously?” This time Jinah turns her whole body towards him, she then puts her hands on her waist. “I thought we agreed not to bring it up when it’s just the two of us?”
“That was in high school, Jinah.” This was the first time he turned his head to face her. At that moment, it was like Dongyoung Jinah had known all her life was not there. There was no way Dongyoung was this attractive, it was as if he was a full blown celebrity already. “You know full well that we’re at the age where the moment I return home things would immediately flow the way they want to.”
Jinah sighs, once again, and probably the most since she entered the company this morning. “What an amazing way to greet an old friend.” She turns her body back towards facing the screen and crosses her arms over her chest once again.
“The fact that we’ve been talking to each other this long already,” he turns to look at his surroundings, “is going to make people think that we know each other.
Jinah slowly turns her head towards Doyoung. “But we do know each other!”
“The daughter of the Jung family who own the JBG conglomerate, won’t just know anyone.” Doyoung was about to head back into the dressing room to change into the next outfit.
“Is that why?”
“That and knowing full well that you’re still in contact with my parents.” Doyoung’s honest response nearly made her want to hit him, but that would– in Doyoung’s words– make them appear as if they know each other.
“You do realize that once the picture comes out, they would contact me about you, right?” She wouldn’t allow this conversation to end, even as he began heading towards the dressing room.
“That’s why I didn’t want to be an ambassador in the first place.” Doyoung continued walking as he walked through the set. He knew well that people around them understood that they were– at least– acquaintances. “But no one could turn down a company as big as Jacks and Heels,” he stops right before he could stand right in front of the door, “this is an opportunity of a lifetime for my members.”
Jinah sighs again, much more than any other work day. She stands there not able to respond with his personality. Thus, Doyoung took this opportunity to slip into the dressing room to get himself ready for the next set of clothing. However, what he didn’t expect was Jinah to follow right behind him.
“Dongyoung,” she calls out her name, this time in front of her teammates, using his birth name and making heads turn. The moment she smirked, he knew that she was up to no good.
“What?” His frustrated reply, makes everyone nearly audibly gasp. Not only was he called out by director Jung by his birth name, but the way he was talking to her without honorifics threw everyone off. Even the way he was nearly stomping towards her.
“Make sure you wear the necklace in the next shoot.” She teasingly tells him in a soft voice.
She walks out of the room soon after, acting all triumphant. The room was then enveloped in absolute silence. He then walked straight towards the dressing area, and not a word was spoken as he walked through the room. It wasn’t until he entered the dressing area that murmurs began to erupt. How could they not talk?
“NCT 127, let’s take the group photos,” the team breaks the awkward tension the moment she walks in calling on them to go on set.
Since Doyoung knew he was the cause behind the tension, he decided to get himself out of the room first. He stood on the set waiting to be directed, and as he stood there, Jinah was standing at the back. Now all she was doing was merely observing them, with her arms crossed over her chest while she leaned back on the wall. Her collared shirt showcased the custom made necklace around her neck, one that looked exactly like the one around his.
It didn’t take long for them to be all standing on the set and the people began directing them on where to stand and how they would level themselves. As it goes with group photos, it took much longer than individual shots, with hair and makeup retouches in between.
During their last few photos, where Doyoung was now counting down the shots taken, he noticed Jinah standing upright staring down at her phone. It was as if she was ready to sprint out of the shooting area, but instead she came running towards the set.
“Dongyoung!” Jinah called Doyoung again with his birth name, but this time there was no space for mischief or frustration, but it was in absolute fear. Everyone in the huge room turned their attention towards their director.
“Director, is everything alright?” The overall manager of the project comes running beside her as soon as he begins running towards the set.
Jinah ran past the project manager, and barely stopped in front of the white set that was prohibited to be stepped on with shoes that were not for the models. “Dongyoung,” she called his name again and it looked like she was about to fall on her knees at that moment.
Immediately in the huddled position that the director has placed them for their last poses, he sprints out and grabs both her shoulders. He grabbed onto her just before she could fall to the floor. “What’s happening?”
“Your father,” she was trying her best not to cry, not in front of all these people, barely being able to stand was already something she had to deal with afterwards, “was shot.”
Immediately the whole place goes silent.
The young adult holding Jinah up, nearly fell at the same time. Doyoung went through all the possible bad scenarios today, all that involved his family, yet he never imagined that this would be the scenario that he has to face. He gulps down and takes time before trying to take it in. The father with whom he grew up relatively close to, the same father who he decided to cut from his life has his own life on the line.
“Where did they bring him?” That was the only line he was able to croak out.
“Your hospital,” Jinah grabs onto the shirt he was endorsing, she was sure she was wrinkling it, but that was the least of her concerns.
That was all it took for Doyoung to decide that he would be running out of that building and driving straight to the hospital. “You drove, right?” Doyoung slips his arm under her shoulders to be able to lift her with one arm.
Jinah nods her head.
That was all it took, he only released from holding her up, but never from touching her. They ran out of the huge shooting area hand in hand. Will this cause a scene? Yes. But did it matter? No.

Will It Work?
Kang Seulgi X Lee Taeyong
tags: @gerardeveryway @gomseulgiii @innssanityyy & anon who requested♡
Seulgi pursed her lips as she sat at the dinner table, in between her parents, opposite the man she just met yet knew she'd have to spend the rest of her life with. His parents sat either side of his too, talking to hers around the round table. She kept her gaze down and moved her pasta around with the fork, unable to eat because of all the thoughts circling her mind.
Will this marriage work? What if they're not compatible? Will she get a say if she wants to leave? Will he leave her first? What if he already has someone?
Sighing she took another small bite, when his father suddenly cleared his throat. "Well then, Mr Kang, I assume our deal can come to a finalisation."
Deal... Seulgi hated hearing that word regarding her, as if she was some business property. She knew all her life her family poured their lives into their works, which lead to her having completely different dreams than just taking over after her parents. In fact, that was the only reason she agreed to this marriage. It would mean a merge, and ultimately her future husband would have control over both, and she was happy to pass it on like that.
She watched her father nod. "I'm excited for the future of our companies, for sure we will climb higher in the market." the elder man turned to his daughter, while the other faced his son. Taeyong nodded, face still stoic, and got up from his seat and moved to stand behind Seulgi. He pulled out a box from his pocket, took out a ring, waited for her to present her left hand.
Seulgi stared at the ring silently. It was beautiful no doubt, but it had a meaning. If she were to let him put it on her, there was no turning back from this new life. She swallowed nervously standing up, and slowly presented her hand to him. He held it and gently placed the ring on her ring finger, all parents cheering which got more of the other customers at the restaurant involved.
She looked up at him and smiled, still nervous, only to get a half smile in response before he returned to his seat. Seulgi sighed and sat back down, trying hard not to regret anything.
>>>
It had been a month since that dinner, and now she stood in a white dress every girl dreamed of one day. So did Seulgi, but that was the only thing making her smile as she looked at herself in the mirror, loving the way the beautiful dress looked on her. But as soon as her mother came inside the room, her smile dropped.
This is it. She's about to marry someone she had no idea of.
Sighing, she followed her mother out to where her father waited for her in front of the hall doors. She didn't say anything, she had nothing to actually say. People looked at her with such happy eyes that she decided to everything to herself.
As her father walked her down the aisle, she saw Taeyong standing there with his usual stoic expression, looking away from her. It made her even sadder seeing that he didn't want to look at her even. When they neared the steps he finally turned to take her hand and help her up, eyes down the whole time. It was only when they stood in front of the officiant that he looked at her face.
The man pursed his lips, before going back to normal.
Seulgi had no idea what he was thinking. She had no idea about him at all. She could only stand there and pray this wedding ended faster.
"You may now kiss the bride."
Her eyes shook, wondering how would this play out. Her questions were answered when Taeyong grabbed her arm and pulled her closer, and quicker than she could process he cupped her cheek with his other hand and kissed her lips already. She was too surprised to respond to his gentle kiss, and could feel her cheeks heat up once he pulled away.
What was that...
Seulgi changed into a more simple comfortable dress for the reception. It was a soft yellow silk dress, sleeveless and backless, down to her shin. She walked into the hall with her friend and saw Taeyong talking to some people who she assumed were business partners, either her father's or his, and decided to go stand with him.
Taeyong felt someone coming his way and turned, his eyes freezing at the sight of his new wife in her new dress. Seulgi smiled as she came next to him and greeted the men, and Taeyong wasn't one to miss one of the younger ones eyeing her. Clenching his jaw, he excused themselves and pulled her with him away to a corner.
"What's wrong?" Seulgi asked softly, confused by his sudden action. He only stared at her with piercing eyes before taking off his suit and putting it around her.
"Don't take it off." he said before taking her hand and going back into the party. She was still confused, but too scared and kept the jacket on until they sat to eat.
It was soon time for the newly wed couple to go home, and Seulgi would be moving in with Taeyong in his penthouse. She was more scared than ever having no clue what would happen once they step into the place, and as they did (after a very quiet car ride) she just stood in the living room awkwardly while Taeyong finished untying his shoes.
He noticed her hesitation as he walked in as well, and called her. "Why are you standing here? Go to our room and change." he pointed in the direction of the master bedroom, and she quickly nodded and went in to find a lot of her stuff had already been moved in and organised.
She found her drawer of pyjamas and took a set, heading to the bathroom to clean up after the busy day they had. She decided to wear her clothes inside before leaving the room, feeling too shy to change in front of Taeyong especially after what he had done today.
Does he not like it? Is he that conservative?
She sighed as she dried her hair before leaving the bathroom, stopping in her tracks when she saw Taeyong on the bed. His shirt was unbuttoned all the way down while he leaned back on one arm and scrolled his phone with the other. She could feel her cheeks heat up again and quickly turned away.
Taeyong saw her come out and got up to shower himself. He stopped next to her, moving closer. "If you're hungry, call the maid for something. If not you can go to sleep, mines the right side." he spoke softly as if to not startle her, and she nodded. Once he went in the bathroom she looked at the bed, and saw her side was the one with an empty side table, and a box of her things from back at her parents house were left next to it.
She sat on her side and arranged everything onto the table and drawer, which she realised she had been doing slowly when she noticed Taeyong already stepped out of the bathroom. She turned towards him, blushing again when seeing he had nothing but a towel on while rummaging through his closet for pyjamas.
She turned her eyes away and looked towards the big window on the other side of the room, and stared outside at the dark night. She could still make out his reflection, and saw he had finished wearing his clothes and was now coming to bed on his side.
Taeyong got in under the covers, but sat upright instead of lying down. He pulled out his laptop from the side drawer and got to work immediately. Despite today being their wedding, he had to work on meeting presentations for his father, and being someone with a good work ethic he never disappointed his family with his results.
After some time he noticed Seulgi still sitting at the edge of the bed near the end, facing out the window. Curious, he moved forward to look over at her, and noticed she had simply been sitting there staring out at the city and playing with her fingers.
He wasn't sure how to approach her. Just as how Seulgi knew nothing about him, he knew nothing about her. Now he was worried whether his small outburst at the reception upset her. She looked beautiful in that dress no doubt, but seeing another man look at her that way angered him.
She was his wife, he had to protect her.
He closed his laptop and put it away before moving to sit to her left, leaving some space, startling Seulgi a bit. She peeked up at him, and he stared back with much softer eyes. "Why won't you sleep?" he asked gently. Seulgi shrugged and turned back to the window, causing him to sigh. He shifted even closer, their shoulders just touching, and with all his courage took her hand and held it.
Seulgi's eyes widened as she watched him touch the ring on her finger. Their marriage ring. Suddenly it hit her, it was their first night together, and her eyes shook as she looked up to see him deep in thought. "Do we have to do... uhm... do it now?" she asked softly, her voice shaking slightly. She had no experience of being intimate before, but she wasn't scared of it. She was scared because she didn't know this man, and it upset her further when she realised they're married yet had no bond.
Taeyong could tell her emotions by her eyes. He let go of her hand and simply climbed back to his side. "Come sleep." he motioned her, and she followed going under the covers on her side, leaving a small distance between them. "I'll be leaving early for work tomorrow. You can start packing whenever you're ready, our honeymoon trip is in 2 days."
>>>
The honeymoon was a four day trip in Japan, and the first 3 weren't as bad as Seulgi thought. They were awkward no doubt, but throughout their time spent together Taeyong was always with her and gave whatever she needed. If she was hungry, he'd immediately find the nearest best restaurant to eat at. If she wanted to shop, he took her to the mall. If she wanted to sightsee, he'd book a tour guide and had them take the couple for a private tour.
Seulgi enjoyed herself as much as she could, but on the third night she felt sad as she went through her photos and realised they didn't do much as a couple. Thinking about it, she figured the last thing she wanted to do was go around Disneyland as a couple. She waited for Taeyong to be done showering and come to bed while she prepared what to wear for the next day.
Once he came out, she approached him while he did his night facial routine. "Taeyong..." he hummed in response. "Tomorrow, can we go to Disneyland?"
"Sure." he answered without looking.
Seulgi continued. "I want to go for something we can do together..." she wanted to say as a couple, but held back worried how would he think of that.
Taeyong stopped rummaging through his things and turned to look at Seulgi, who was clearly nervous as she bit her lip and her toes kept fidgeting. "I'll find things we can do together, you can pick which ones to do." he closed up the small bag and turned to her fully. "Let's get some sleep now, Disneyland is a lot of walking." she nodded and followed behind him to the bed.
They slept just as they do back home, each on their own sides, and a gap between them.
The next morning they woke up extra early, knowing how time consuming their destination would be. As they sat in the car on the way, Taeyong pulled out his tab and showed it to her. "Here's things to do there, as a couple." Seulgi's ears perked at his words. "See which you'd like to go for, I don't think we can do them all since there'll be lines. But we're staying for the night parade and fireworks, so if there's time we can do more or rest."
Handing her the device, he then looked away out the window. Seulgi stared at him a little longer, before a smile took over her face. She had doubts what kind of activities he would pick out, but in the end they were exactly what she wanted.
Maybe we are more similar than I thought...
The walk around Disneyland was tiring, and Seulgi was glad she didn't mark too many things as they ended up taking several breaks in between. At one point she realised he was taking pictures of her throughout, which fluttered her heart, but she wished they'd take some together.
As he took another one and checked on it, she came closer. "Uhm... Should we ask someone for a picture together?" he looked up at her immediately, and she got nervous. "Only if you want... I know you might not, nevermind it then..." she looked down and shuffled her feet, wanting to run, but of course that's out of question.
But before she could walk back to her position, she felt a hand grab hers causing her to halt. She looked back at him and he pulled her closer, before looking around. "Excuse me," he called out to a father walking by, "could you help take a picture for us here please?"
The man nodded, and Taeyong dragged her to where she had posed before. Seulgi stood awkwardly, until he suddenly held her waist and pulled her even closer. She looked at him and saw he was facing the camera, smiling softly, and decided to just follow him.
It's just for the camera...
"One, two, smile!" the man clicked one picture. "Another one please." he said before counting again, but before he finished Seulgi felt her husband suddenly lean his head against hers. But she couldn't react, though her smile did grow. As the man announced one final picture, and counted to three, she could no longer hide her shocked expression when feeling a kiss on her cheek.
"Very nice." the man said as he came closer to return their camera. "I wish my wife and I could experience the spark of young love again." Taeyong smiled and thanked the man who returned to his family. He went through the pictures, showing some to Seulgi.
But she was still too caught up with what had just happened to focus, and just hummed along. "Let's go grab some dinner, then find a place to settle for the fireworks." he said, grabbing her hand and walking.
Throughout dinner she kept silent, only speaking when ordering her food. And Taeyong wasn't one to miss that. Halfway through he stopped eating looked up at her, getting her attention as his cutlery hit the plate.
"Is something bothering you?" he asked, stern but soft. "You've been quiet for a while."
Seulgi bit her lip, wondering if she should be honest or not. But one peek at him and she could tell he was an easy reader of expressions. "It's nothing... I was just thinking." she answered hoping it would let him move on. But of course she was wrong.
"About what?"
She sighed, putting her cutlery down as well. "About us. I'm... confused. I've never been in relationships before, but I feel like ours isn't going to be as easy as others. And, I'm worried..." she kept her eyes down as she spoke, too nervous to look at him.
Taeyong pursed his lips, staring at her for a while as worries filled his head as well. It's not that he had it any easier, he just wanted to make it as normal as possible. Finally he made his move, sliding closer to her in his chair until their shoulders just touched. Just as Seulgi looked at him, he grabbed her hand in both of his and started fumbling with it.
"Relationships aren't meant to be easy." he started to speak softly. "But I know ours is harder than usual. I don't know about you, much at all to be honest, and that's what's hard for me from making it feel normal. I try to, but I don't know what you like or you don't, what makes you happy, what you're comfortable with. I'm scared if I accidentally overstep boundaries. I don't want to make things awkward between us than they already are."
Their eyes met, simply gazing at one another before he suddenly kissed her knuckles. "I'm willing to give us a shot. I think you're a great woman, so I will try for you as I hope you do for me. And maybe instead of watching each other slowly, we can talk more to know about each other."
Seulgi's lips quivered, unable to speak, so she leaned onto his shoulder, getting comfortable when she felt him wrap an arm around her in a hug, the other still holding her hand. She smiled shyly, trying to hide it in his shirt, but he could tell.
And it made him think, this might actually work better than he worried about.
Realising the time, Taeyong moved out first. "We should go now if we wanna make it in time for the fireworks show. I'll get us some drinks on the way for us while we wait." Seulgi nodded and they got up, his hand grabbing her naturally, and headed out to their final destination for the day.
As they sat waiting for the show to begin, Taeyong leaned back on his arms, allowing for his wife to lean against his chest while looking through all the photos they had taken today in his camera. He looked as well, and both noticed the subtle smiles they had in all the pictures. It put Seulgi in thought again when coming to the picture of him kissing her cheek.
She smiled cheekily and got up, confusing her husband when she walked over to a teenage girl and passed the camera to her, saying something before returning to her seat. "I want some pictures here." she simply said. He nodded and sat up properly, his arm snaking around her waist again.
As the young lady started to count, Seulgi moved her head closer to his, smiling brightly this time. And from the corner of her eyes she could see him doing the same. One picture done, and when moving to the second one, the couple surprised each other.
"One, two, three, smile!"
Both heads turned, meaning for innocent cheek kisses, but instead they caught each others lips. Luckily the girl had caught it in the right moment, as they were quick to pull away and stare in shock.
"That was so cute!" the young girl squealed and laughed. Seulgi turned to her and smiled awkwardly, turning back to Taeyong, before they both bursted into giggles. Feeling content, the girl clicks one more picture unannounced before passing the camera back to Seulgi and dashing off excitedly. The two looked down at the last picture, smiles taking over both their faces.
Taeyong made a mental note to frame this picture up on their wall, it beats the awkward wedding one they had taken. And peeking at his wife's face he could tell she definitely felt the same. Unable to hold back, he quickly sneaked a quick kiss to her cheek, gaining her attention.
"I hope we can cover our walls with more pictures of your smile."
Seulgi gazed into his eyes as he did, and with zero hesitation moved closer into another kiss. It was an innocent one, but held much meaning as Taeyong cupped her cheek and deepened it. She quickly placed a hand between them and pushed him off gently, the same hand then playing with the collar of his shirt as she looked down shyly.
He chuckled, she was too adorable. He turned back to face the direction of the fireworks, before his hands were quick at work pulling her closer to the point she sat on his lap sideways, then rested his head on his shoulder. "It feels like I know you so long..." he whispered. Seulgi froze for a while longer, slowly getting used to this much closeness with the man she just barely knew about. "I hope I didn't cross the line."
She decided to relax herself, faced him with a smile and shook her head before laying against his shoulder again. They sat like that longer, fingers playing with each other's, when the fireworks soon started and they watched in awe.
That night, as they retired to their bed back at the hotel, Taeyong took the risk and laid down closer to his wife. He was careful and watched her expression, making sure she was comfortable with it. He noticed she peeked at him for a bit, but shifted her head towards his direction a bit, which he took as a green light.
Seulgi silently looked away as her husband made himself comfortable right next to her, their arms touching. He laid facing her, so she decided to do the same and turned on her spot.
The couple stared at each other with shy smiles, until Taeyong shifter closer to her and kissed her forehead. He took the chance to wrap her in his arms and pull her closer, resting his chin on her head.
Seulgi felt calmer than ever as she threw her arm over his torso and snuggled into his chest. All her worries her lifted with this one simple action, she no longer feared what might happen to them. All she could think about was working towards a happy future together, especially knowing his feelings and fears were the same as hers. It reassured her that she wasn't going to be the only one putting in effort.
This might work... No, it's going to work... she thought to herself as she peeked up and saw her husband drifting to sleep, feeling nothing but affection towards him. Yea, it'll work...

♡ nct dream ﹒ gender neutral!reader genre fluff, slice of life, angst, suggestive warnings language, suggestive on jeno’s, brief death joke on haechan’s note if yall have any requests let me know 🫶 here’s the tropes if you can’t tell: mark: best friends to lovers. renjun: enemies to lovers. jeno: fwb. haechan: fake dating. jaemin: second chance. chenle: arranged marriage. jisung: brother’s best friend. i cant remember who inspired this but i do know it was for enhypen lol ( masterlist )
resting on his elbow on your bed, mark’s mouth is agape as he stares at you, blinking furiously. was he dreaming? you, who stood in front of the floor length mirror, smooth down your clothes for non-existent dust and smile to yourself, “okay, how about this outfit?” you wait a few seconds before frowning, “mark? hello— mark?” you wave a hand in front of him and he jolts, “wha—? oh, um, yeah, it’s great. you look really good— … dude.” he winces inwardly at the name, but you don’t bat an eye at it and frown at his seemingly insincere words. “you’re right, it’s bad. i’m going to change.” mark catches your hand with a laugh, “dude, no! seriously, you look really— …” he trails off, looking hesitant to say the next word, even though he’s said it so many times before so easily. what was different now? “— pretty. gorgeous,” he says it without even thinking, realizing it the moment you smile bashfully, ducking your head to your chest to try and hide it but failing miserably. he studies your face for a second, eyes flickering from your eyes to your lips. and— oh. he wants to kiss you so bad. you, his best friend. oh. oh shit.
renjun doesn’t know when the lines blurred from enemies to frenemies to … lovers? crushes? all he knows is that the burning rage that used to fill him every time your mouth opened was now replaced with warmth spreading over his chest and the urge to kick his feet while giggling. words neither of you would dare to speak around your mothers, intended to hurt, were replaced with teasing, playful words with no hint of malice. your head turns swiftly, knocking him out of his daydream as you raise an eyebrow at him, “take a picture, maybe it’ll last longer.” cheeks flushing a subtle red, his eyes narrow at you, “you might break my camera.” but his pinky creeping towards yours and lips curling up at the ends says how he really thinks. you smile, flipping your hand over and making the first move to intertwine your fingers. his heart stuttered in his chest, “i— you—” you laugh, squeezing his hand once before going back to your textbook. and, yeah, he was certain he’s never felt this before.
“if you squeeze any harder, i think you’ll break the glass,” mark attempts at a joke to diffuse the tension radiating off jeno. jeno’s lips barely twitched up as he glanced down at the glass in his hand before setting it to the side, done drinking for the night. he didn’t feel like it anymore when he saw how closely some guy holds you to his side, hand on your waist. he didn’t like the funny feeling it gave him and he could only imagine how it’d feel when alcohol was added into the equation. “jeno, dude, when are you gonna make a move? you guys have been—” he glances around, checking for eavesdroppers even though the music was far too loud for anyone to hear, “—messing around for months, basically a couple without the label. and you know there’s more people interested in y/n than just him.” the two look back to the opposite side of the room where the guy was whispering something in your ear, a smirk on his face. “you need to tell them you want something more than just fuck buddies. or else you’ll lose them forever.”
“you— WHAT?” haechan winces as your voice grows louder in his ear, casting a quick look around to see if anyone could hear you through the phone. “hyuck! what the fuck?” “don’t act like it wouldn’t be a privilege to date me,” haechan scoffs playfully, hiding his nervousness behind humor; as he always did with his emotions. “i’d rather die.” “okay, well, please! my mom’s already told everyone in my family that i’m bringing someone, including my sisters!” the mention of his sisters have you going quiet, and he hopes you’re thinking about it on the other end. “god, haechan— i—” you sigh in frustration, “how was my name the first name to pop up in that tiny brain of yours?” he ignores the jab, thinking back to that moment. truthfully, he already knew why you were the first name to pop up in his head when his mom mentioned bringing a date to his family reunion. but you didn’t need to know that. not right now, at least. “you weren’t, you were actually my last choice but all my other choices would’ve said no,” he teases, hearing you scoff in disbelief and he grins. “whatever. you’re lucky i love your sisters and hate letting them down.” “and me?” he raises an eyebrow, maybe a hint of hope in his voice. “you wish.” he does.
jaemin swears he’s dreaming when he looks up and sees you. never in a million years did he think you would come back home. not when you tried so hard to leave, anyway. you’re across the aisle, switching your gaze between two spices in your hands when you feel the back of your neck prickling. your head lifts, making eye contact with jaemin immediately. your breath catches, the world freezing around you as the two of you stared at one another. jaemin had only seen glimpses of you through social media the last four years, living your life in some prestigious university with your dream job and dream life in america. he watched your life through pictures like he used to watch you sleep. you break first, raising a hand to wave shyly at him, attempting a weak smile as you didn’t know how he’d react. jaemin abandoned his cart, walking closer to you as you set the spices into your cart. “hi,” you breathe out once he stands in front of you. for years, it seemed like you could never catch your breath, always missing just one thing. and now, it seemed like a breath of fresh air, standing in front of him. his lips turned up into a soft smile, eyes shining as he said softly, “hi.”
the hotel room is silent as chenle unlocks the door with the cardkey, letting you in first and doing a quick check of his surroundings before following in. he listens to the click of the lock, eyes following your movements as you grab a change of clothes and your skincare items from your suitcase. he loosens the tie around his neck, kicking his dress shoes off and turning his back towards you. he doesn’t intend on saying anything, knowing that this situation is definitely not your favorite thing in the world. while he wished it was on his own terms, he liked that it was you. it was only ever you for him. you just didn’t know that. “chenle?” he hums in reply, shrugging off his suit jacket and throwing it on the loveseat. “you don’t … hate me, do you?” his head snaps up, brows furrowing, “what?” the word comes out incredulous and you bite your lip, embarrassment sinking in as your cheeks begin to feel warm. “i … i know this isn’t ideal, but for me, i know it’s not the worst thing in the world.” he blinks at you. you smile slightly at his dumbfounded expression, “i was angry at first, and i was so … betrayed. but, i’m glad it’s you.” you don’t expect a response, heading into the bathroom quietly. he smiles to himself once he fully registers what you just said. i’m glad it’s you. he was, too.
from your spot on the armchair, you watch as jisung rises from his seat on the couch, next to your brother. “i’m getting a drink, anyone want anything?” the rest of your friends and your brother’s friends chime in with their answers, and you wait a second for anyone to get up and follow after him. but no one does. you smile to yourself before standing, “i’m going to help him, since you assholes won’t.” your brother waves you off, too far into the video game to give a better reply. you sneak up behind jisung, sliding your cold hands up under his t-shirt and he jumps, neck twisting to look at you. “ah!” he says a little too loudly, and you shush him. you stay silent before you hear shouts of excitement and disappointment from the living room, turning back to him. “what if—” he starts to say. “as far as they know, i’m helping you with the drinks and snacks,” you poke him in his ribs and he jumps, making you snicker. you stare into each other’s eyes for a few seconds, enjoying the small moment you’ve rarely got since you all came home from college for the summer. at the thought, your face falls and jisung frowns, brushing a stray hair away from your eyes, “what’s wrong?” you shake your head, not wanting to ruin the moment but he insists. “i … i really want to tell him, ji.” you frown, watching his face carefully. “the longer we keep this a secret, the more he’ll be mad. i think we should just rip the bandaid off.” at his hesitation, you sigh and step away from him, making him take a step forward to close the distance again. “jisung, if we’re really serious about this, we have to tell him at some time.” you hesitate, “… are you serious about me?” his eyes widen, “what? yeah, i am. i’ve been serious about you since we were seventeen. i…” he looks shy, “you’re it for me. you’ve always been.” your cheeks heat up, eyes darting away shyly at his words as you allow him to close more distance between you two and press a meaningful kiss to your lips. “we’ll tell him … after everyone leaves, okay? i don’t want to hide anymore. i didn’t like it in the first place.”

speak now (lty)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Taeyong (NCT) x Reader Tags: Royalty AU, Arranged Marriage Warnings: None Word Count: 10.4 k Summary: Nothing had seemed to prepare you for this moment when you realize you were standing in the middle of a wedding. It is not something you had planned inside your mind, but here you are. A/N: This was posted a month earlier on AO3, and I keep on forgetting I should post this here as well 😭 Also, this was supposed to be part of my entries for ficwip 5 k challenge but I got carried away. Anyways don't forget, FACT CHECK on OCT. 6!!!!!! Also posted on: Archive of Our Own
Nothing had seemed to prepare you for this moment since this is not something that you had planned inside your mind. Days before the wedding day, this only slipped inside your mind, but you never wanted to make this real but today, you are in the middle of the aisle, dressed in your pretend baker clothes— why you were dressed like that was not the main point— because right now, the wedding guests are peering, and waiting for you to speak whilst the blushing bride and the handsome groom stand there expectantly, a surprised look painted in their faces especially from the bride.
“What are you waiting for? Speak now— are you against this wedding?” The preacher asked you, snapping you back from reality.
So, what really had happened before this? How did you find your way all the way to a wedding uninvited? Because honestly you are not that type of person who would just barge in a white veil occasion without logical reason.
So, for starters: the ballroom is not as memorable as you thought it was.
The time where you two were dancing all alone was the day you have said you were deeply enamored towards the prince; he has his pretty smile and his brown velvet eyes boring in your own eyes, and the soft chuckle from your lips as he almost tripped on his feet which was merely intentional. The prince was well-versed with dancing, he only wanted to see you smile that night. He matched your joyful smile you had that night with an enamored grin. That night felt so wonderful, the butterflies inside your stomach could burst out with giddiness and flutter around the ballroom, soaring, but the difference was that instead, locusts might be the one bursting out because as of the moment, instead of you dancing with him, he was out in the ballroom dancing with the woman he was about to be married with.
Oh, how you missed that feeling instead of the green-eyed monster eating all of your insides.
Do you think he had said the same words he had whispered in your ear? Does she also get those warm and fuzzy feelings inside her chest as he says all those words?
Maybe your mother was right. Men are the same. They always know how to make a woman swoon, no matter who and where they are. Because how in the heavens he was dancing with the woman when you caught his eyes focused solely on you. Not to indulge with your delusions, but you genuinely feel so bad for the lady. Yet of course, you love this attention that he was giving you in spite of it all.
Stolen glances, and longing stares in the ballroom should not be as hard as this. You had done this before and yet, the feeling of loving someone who wasn't destined to be yours crushing your soul as deep as the pits of the underworld. You should have known of this yet you still yearn to this day that you should love someone without the scornful looks from the public's eye. How could you even live and give in with secrecy?
The number one gossip you had remembered from one of the servants was that: The princes are not allowed to marry anyone below their status, and if they do, they are a disgrace to this kingdom, the One-to-Seventh of the Southern Mountain province. The conservative values that were instilled centuries ago were still preserved until the present times. Since then, no one has dared to defy those traditions except there were a lot of royal families in the province who had not taken part of the traditions. Take for example the Prince of Evening Cross Outlands, Prince Chen. The public had only known of his private affairs after one of the stewards had announced his wedding. Of course, the people were angry, a lot of the women who were head-over-heels were angry at him. And yet, the marriage went on.
Thinking of that, the old servant lady who had relayed you the gossip might be shocked if he knew the prince of your kingdom is a rebel to their traditional values. He had not yet caught because he moves so quietly like a feline in the shadows. All of your hidden meetings were always calculated. Not one soul in the palace should know about it or else... Who knows what fate you could have?
Besides, while you two aren't caught, yet , you two have the pettiest of excuses, and people would believe it all.
“Your highness, you wanted to see me?”
The prince’s eyes lit up as soon as he saw you in the room. Composing himself, he firmly nodded at you.
“I am in dire need of assistance for this book I was reading, and I need your help, Miss Librarian.”
A mischievous look in his eyes were only seen by your own while his loyal servant was too oblivious to know what he meant.
“Of course, follow me, your highness.” You stifled the giggle you had.
A soft chuckle left out of your lips as soon as you left the vicinity with the prince. There were soft kisses turned to heated moans as soon as you were led to his own chambers. Although you loved loving him in secret not until you slowly fell into his grace, there is that one morning when you woke up, you prop your arm to see him, peacefully sleeping beside you. How you wish one day you won’t be living like this behind the walls. How you wish you would never feel an afterthought, and will be permanently engraved in his heart and be shouted proudly around the kingdom. As selfish as it seems, you already knew that it might not happen unless the divines above would grant your wish.
“Do you really love me?” You then whispered as you traced his cheeks with your fingertip. You sighed deeply before you dressed up, and left his chambers quietly. You start to think what if the prince actually loves you but you wonder if that love you thought was real and not just a pastime during the night. You wonder if he would be like the prince of the neighboring kingdom, would Taeyong do the same for you?
“May I have this dance, milady?” Someone asked before you, snapping out of your trance. You almost jumped from your seat when you were surprised to see the General of the Green Knights was right here in front of you, dashing with his suit, and his styled hair.
“Oh, Sir John… you really don’t have to, I am fine in my seat, watching the party on the sidelines.”
The knight raised a brow and furrowed his brows as he looked you up and down.
“You were dressed so elegantly suited for the ballroom, milady, but you quite have the long face. What had troubled you to sulk in the corner? Was it because of a troubling, young prince—?”
You almost stood from your seat and swatted your hand fan on his arm, however, as scandalous and playful as it were, you decided to hold that thought. John was right. After all, John was one of your friends who you consider would not share your secrets to anyone. You even wanted to ask if John could read your mind, and know what is going inside your head, but you brushed that thought.
“Stop teasing, John. And do not address me like I am a noblewoman.” There was this cat-like smile on his lips as he watched you.
“I can stop addressing you ‘milady’ if you accept my request to dance with you, milady .” He keeps on teasing you until you eventually give in and extend your hand with a playful roll of your eyes.
“Milord.”  You curtsied with a roll of your eyes.
“Milady.” He kissed the back of your palm before taking your hand. You ignore the fluttering feeling inside your chest which in your defense, John had done a lot of times but everytime he did it, it was an effective heart shaker.
As John walked you in the middle of the dance floor, you could feel all the eyes staring through you. Murmurs from different ladies were heard behind your back. In spite of it all, you ignored them except for one prying eye— the young prince. You can ignore all the gossip that surrounds you as you dance with the dashing knight, however, what trickled up your spine was that the prince was preying on you like a hawk.
“You seemed distracted, milady.”
“I am fine, John.”
“Fine? You mean you are seeing how Prince Taeyong was looking at you right now?” He smirked.
“Let's just dance, okay?” You then led him into a waltz in the middle of the ballroom.
The orchestra played in a waltz where it opens where it starts sweet, and as mellow as the ocean waves, until your bodies sway like the currents. All the people were mesmerized at the way the two of you were dominating the dance floor. The ladies had their jaws on the floor as they watched you. You are not the quite the dancer you were, but you had a great mentor, Seulgi, and thanks to her, you can show how you gracefully dance with a beautiful man. You both successfully caught the attention of everyone including the person you wanted to impress the most. Applause was heard as soon as you two finished dancing. You and John took a bow, and smiled at each other
“Milady, that was an eye-catching performance, or may I say you are a show-stunner.” You were stunned as soon as you lifted up your head and saw the one who complimented you.
“Your highness, it is a pleasure!” You curtsied quickly at him, hiding your flushed face from the prince.
'Get it together!' You screamed internally.
“I must say she was a good dancer as well as you, sir John. You did well.” The woman beside Prince Taeyong was Lady Gwendolyn, his soon-to-be wife.
The music started once again, and yet another round for dancing in the ballroom commenced.
You and John excused yourselves away from the royal couple. When you were about to step on the grand staircase, you forgot to bring your hand fan with you so you told John he should go first before you. As you look around for your hand fan from where you last seated, it wasn't there. You were about to give up and head back to your quarters when you spotted a familiar figure in the corridors, holding the same fan you were holding earlier.
“Your highness, what are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be out with Lady Gwendolyn?”
“Lady Wendy says she was tired from all the dancing so I was out here, waiting for the owner of this hand fan to come back.”
“Oh, why thank you, your highness, I can now go back to my quarters, then.” You ignore his given nickname for the noblewoman.
You were about to take it from his hand and yet he didn't give it to you, raising the hand fan above his head. He did it as if he was playing a game with you. You sighed defeatedly as you looked at him.
“Your highness, I can't do this right now, we might get caught.” You said in a hushed tone.
“Oh, but when you were out with John, it was like you were tearing each other's clothes out in public. And, oh, the way you were looking into his eyes? What was that?” He sighed exasperatedly as his eyes darted out away from yours while his ears were turning red. And that's when it hits you.
“You're jealous? You're jealous of John?” You wouldn't believe what was happening right now, and good thing, there were no people around you who could witness this. You were holding your laugh out the way he is embarrassed and pouting right in front of you, you were so lucky to witness it and call him yours at first before he marries somebody else.
He was about to open his mouth for a witty retort, but he closed his mouth and sighed defeatedly.
“Forget it, meet me back in my chambers, and we'll talk about this, Miss Librarian .” He gave your hand fan to you before he would be teased to death in the middle of the palace's open corridors.
Taeyong stays silent as he gazes up at the ceiling as you rest your head on his chest. You didn’t engage with your usual frolicking with the prince tonight, instead, you only wanted to feel his warmth even if it meant to be the last time you will be wrapped around his arms.
“You will be marrying Lady Gwendolyn of House Song next month… I don't think we should continue this anymore, Yong...” Muttering his nickname was not meant for this sad feeling lingering on your chest. You can’t even look him straight in the eye because you already knew that this day would come. Although you wanted what they called the 'happy ever-after' like the old tales of princes and princesses, you remembered that all of those were only myths and not meant for someone like a commoner like you. You don’t want to tarnish the prince’s reputation after all.
“But don’t worry you can still visit me in the royal library, and we can still be friends even after this you know—”
“I don’t want this to stop…” This time, Taeyong drops down his gaze to meet your eyes, and caresses your cheek so that you can look at him.
“I know I sound foolish right now, and I know my ancestors would be rising from their graves right now if I attempted this one thing: loving someone like you. But I will promise you that I will never, ever, love anyone, even Lady Gwendolyn, but you. I know my engagement with Lady Gwendolyn has been already set in stone even when we were children and yet…” He took your hand in his own and kissed it before laying it down on his chest, having you feel the beat of his own heart. “I do admit that I am as uncertain with you for what's to come, but I am willing to commit, to the point of no return, bearing you my soul and my life, that I am bound to love you till the end.”
“Taeyong…” You were teary-eyed when he uttered those words to you. “I hope you are being true to your words, because I do not just simply give in with sweet words, Yong...” You tease him as you trace your hands on his chest.
“I know you, but you were here with me right now and I thank you for that, my love.” Taeyong chuckles softly as he resumes leaving small kisses on your wrist.
“Yong…”
“Yes?”
“I love you…”
He smiles and kisses your temple. “I love you, too…”
Silence befalls between the two of you. You watch his breathing carefully, and trace your hand on his chest.
“If you don't mind me asking, does Lady Gwendolyn already have suspicions about us?”
Taeyong falls silent for a moment. He sighs deeply and shakes his head with a smile.
“I don't think Lady Wendy would find out about our relationship but if she did, I won't let her harm you… I promise you that.” He kisses your temple softly, and you match his smile with a breath of relief.
Oh, you just wished you could just stay in his arms more than you wished for because the next day, you came unprepared.
There was a small banquet in the palace hosted by none other than Lady Gwendolyn. You were staying silent from the farthest seat from the noblewoman, but of course,
“Oh, our lovely guest, the Miss Librarian, what do you think about my dress?”
You don’t know how or why, but you don’t seem to like the aura Lady Gwendolyn gives off. Yes, she seems nice with the way you had conversed with her the past few weeks since the engagement was announced, but the more the wedding comes closer, Lady Gwendolyn is slowly giving off some wicked vibes. Maybe it’s just your problem, so you just brush it off.
“Your dress looks good on you, Lady Gwendolyn and it does suit you well.”
“Of course, the royal tailor was the one who was assigned to cater to my tastes! And soon enough, when I get to be wed with the prince, I will lavish myself with everything the royal palace has to offer!”
“Speaking of Prince Taeyong, my what a pretty couple you are!” One of the lady-in-waitings, Giselle, compliments.
The lady of the hour giggles behind her hand.
“I know right, however there is one problem… There is this that bothers me when I am with the prince…”
“Tell us, Lady Gwendolyn!”
“Don’t be afraid to tell us!”
“What was it?”
“Don’t tell this to anyone but… I heard that the prince unfortunately had his heart on someone else that's why he remains distant to me.”
A wonderful heated gossip caused exaggerated gasps from the mouths of the ladies except from you. Lady Gwendolyn’s eyes deeply seep through you. Deep inside the back of your mind, you know she was talking about you but maybe it was just you.
“Miss Librarian, are there any problems with that? Why didn’t you seem surprised about this?”
Were you that obvious? What face did you make in front of the women?
“I don’t get what you mean, Lady Gwendolyn, I’m pretty sure I am as surprised as Lady Aeri and Ning here.”
“Oh, anyway. As I was saying, Prince Taeyong had his heart on someone else. And I am quite nervous, girls. It seems he likes this cunning snake! What should I do?” The woman whined exaggeratedly as she wiped her eyes.
“Don’t invite that, snake!”
“Prince Taeyong shouldn’t fall in love with a snake!”
“What about you, Ms. Librarian? Don’t you have anything to say?”
“I just say don’t invite whoever that is, Lady Gwendolyn.”
"Thank you for your input because I will do what you'll say, ladies."
You don’t want to jump to any conclusions when Lady Gwendolyn grins at you. You don’t want to paint her as a villain inside your mind. Maybe it was just you, but you definitely do not like the way she grins at you.
Later that afternoon, you went back to your work in the library like nothing happened. You were listing the things that you needed to stock for the library. Sometimes you head town with Donghyuck but since John insisted on assisting you, Donghyuck will be staying here so that he can attend his library duties.
“Miss Librarian?”
Oh… Lady Gwendolyn. Why was she here? You wondered as you eye the noblewoman walking around all by herself. Her lady-in-waiting wasn’t around following her for some reason, and the banquet had ended hours ago! Why would she want to meet you here once more? What was she up to?
“Good afternoon, Lady Gwendolyn. What are you doing here? Do you need any books to borrow? I can get it personally for you.” Donghyuck greeted her with a smile yet the noblewoman eyed him from head-to-toe and brushed him off so that she could get to your table.
“I don’t need your help. Can you leave me alone with her?” She told Donghyuck when she had her back turned from him. Poor Donghyuck scurried away from the library, leaving you and Lady Gwendolyn in one room.
“Do you need to borrow some books, Lady Gwendolyn?” You asked, still as polite as possible.
“That is not what I am after, miss librarian.” She said with a hint of distaste. “You should be thanking me because I am too nice not to out you as the town whore during my banquet earlier.”
“Excuse me? How dare you—?!”
“I already know what you did so no need to defend yourself.” She raised her hand in the air, interrupting you in mid-sentence. “I already know about your secret affair with the prince and I knew about what happened last night. How long have you been entangling with my soon-to-be husband? You should be ashamed of yourself and stop pretending you're pure like everyone believes you to be!”
You wanted to defend yourself. You wanted to yell at her and tell the truth that it was long before she and the Prince had been together. She may be engaged with him, but the Prince loves you, but you can't seem to move your lips nor open your mouth to speak against the ruthless noblewoman.
“The prince was already engaged to me, don’t you see?” She showed her ring to you. “Yet you acted like a brothel whore. I really don’t know why Prince Taeyong still wants you even after all this time when he and I were already engaged since we were both children. So, stay away from him, do you understand?”
You don’t know what you should do during that moment. Cry? No, you can’t, she’ll just taunt you even more. Scream at her? You will be causing a commotion and you know Lady Gwendolyn’s power. So, instead, you just chose to stay silent and nod your head.
She rolled her eyes at you and scoffed.
“You can act pretending you understand what I meant, but I am giving you a forewarning, librarian. The prince will know how to love me eventually but you? You will stay miserable till you age in the end knowing the prince DID love you, but, what did he do to his little whore? He didn’t choose you in the end.” She snickered at you with a smile before she left your station.
“Oh, before I leave, you can do everything that you want before this wedding, but you will never be the one smiling in the end. Hope you enjoy watching the wedding, because you won’t— Since you said it yourself that a cunning snake shouldn’t be invited.” She tossed the crumpled invitation to your table and bid a 'sincere' goodbye to you as if she didn’t humiliate your whole being.
You tried to salvage what was left of the crumpled invitation on your desk. Your name was crossed out multiple times yet, you saw even with a small glimpse of how your name was written delicately with the intricate design mixed with flowers. You held back the tears that were attempting to stream down your cheeks when you saw Donghyuck come back once Lady Gwendolyn exited the library.
“That Gwendolyn sure is something . I don’t know what her problem was but I really sense Prince Taeyong would have a hard time living with her! She is not a good fit for a queen!” He wasn’t paying attention to you when you were wiping away the stray tears in your eyes.
“Did she say anything absurd to you, ma’am?”
You raised your head as soon as you were done wiping your tears.
“To me? Oh, she was being nice to me actually.” You smiled, distracting yourself by organizing the papers that do not need  any fixing.
“I just hope Prince Taeyong could change his mind and not marry that woman because I know that there will be chaos once she steps in the palace, and lives here. Don’t you think, ma’am?”
“Well, let’s see what the prince can do.” You smiled despite the fact that you knew that there is only a small chance of that happening if one engagement is already set in stone but in the back of your mind, you wished he would choose the right decision  and not choose the former.
-
“You’re not invited?”
John asked you as the two of you took a stroll down the town streets. You decided to take a break by doing errands away from the library. Besides you need to stock up on some materials in the royal library and you are the one who knows the materials you need. Although usually it was Donghyuck who did these errands, since you wanted to take a break, and John just happened to be staying at the palace indefinitely, you are now away from the palace and from your thoughts.
“Like why of all the people in the palace, the royal head librarian wasn’t invited at all? Does it make sense? The royal librarian who happened to be one of the closest friends to the prince wasn’t invited! Did something happen? Did Taeyong exclude you?”
“Oh, God, no, it wasn’t his fault. I guess the guests were already full, so I don’t think whoever is the wedding planner might have seen a reason why they would invite me.”
“But your assistant, Donghyuck, will be present. But you aren't? Think about it! Maybe someone just misplaced your invitation or maybe someone messed it up. Don’t tell me… Was it Lady Gwendolyn, wasn’t it?” John frowned.
There go your tears forming in your eyes when you remembered what happened earlier that morning. You tried fighting it back so that John would not see your eyes glistened with tears.
“I don’t think so— Oof!” You raised your head all too quickly and apologized at the person you bumped into. “I am very sorry, it’s my fault I wasn’t looking where I am going—”
“No worries, ma’am.” The man said as if he was in a hurry.
“Is there anything I can do for you? I am very sorry—”
“It’s fine, don’t worry.” You didn’t even see a small glimpse of his face when he bid goodbye.
Beside you, John was holding his laughter before the man left. You looked him in the eye and there, he just burst out laughing.
“What was that for?” You huffed.
“Nothing, nothing. As you were saying? Weren't you going to treat me with that favorite bread of yours?”
“I'll treat you next time since you teased me today.” You stuck out your tongue and walked five steps ahead of him. You both acted like children but you were glad that you forgot that you had a heavy heart after what happened even for a moment. Maybe you should really give up and move away from the palace so that no royal nor noble blood could mess with your life ever again.
Feels like heaven welcomed you with the buttery smell of fresh bread wafting into the air even if you were still outside the bakery. You lead John inside your favorite bakery, and good thing, not a lot of people are lining up so you easily pick up the bread you wanted.
“Welcome to Peach Bread and Pastries!” A handsome man welcomed the two of you, it seemed he was a new hire or something because you didn't seem to recognize him except for the older lady and her daughter, Joy, who already knew your order since you are their loyal patron. You wonder if Joy was there but it seems she may be out of town.
“Jaehyun!” John says all of a sudden.
You turn your head to who he calls out, and it turns out John knows one of the bakers.
“John.” He nods his head.
“By the way, this is my cousin, Jaehyun.” Johnny then introduces him to you. You try to think where you have met him. He is familiar! And when it hits you, you point your hand at John, and say, “Is that why you're laughing earlier because I just happened to bump into your cousin? Why didn't you say so?”
You playfully glare at the taller man but John only cheekily grins at you as he chooses the bread he wants.
“Well, at least you are acquainted with Jaehyun now.”
You huff with a pout and turn your back against him to choose your favorite bread among the display. You can’t seem to find it easily, so Jaehyun helps you find the bread you want. You faintly say ‘thank you,’ and lead you back to the counter.
“Thank you for your patronage, madame. I hope you can come back soon so I can serve you again.” The man smiles, dimples showing both sides of his cheeks, as he hands your orders.
When you exit the bakery, you try not to swat your hands on John’s arm when he decides to tease you around his cousin.
///
When you thought you could avoid Prince Taeyong, it was one of the hardest things you did in your life because you get to see him everyday inside the library  because that was one of his most frequent places to go to and obviously that’s where you work. Even if you wanted not to see him, he was just there. Donghyuck could see the frustrated look on your face, even if you deny that you weren’t agitated, he just continued to tease you when he knew the prince had arrived.
“The prince is here, ma’am.”
“I know. You don’t have to remind me, Donghyuck.” You resort on not raising your head because for sure, the prince was not paying attention to his book.
“I thought you two were friends? What happened?”
‘So many complicated things happen,’ you muttered defeatedly under your breath. You know Donghyuck already knows half of it, like you and Prince Taeyong but beyond that, you don’t want him to know the secret affair between you and the prince. It’s not like you don’t trust Donghyuck, what you just don’t like is his attitude because he was the type of person who will tease someone hard. And you know how mischievous he was especially towards his friend, Mark Lee, in the Green Knights who happened to be courting the lady-in-waiting, Yerim, so you rather shut yourself up.
“Donghyuck, can you point me out where I can look at more of these types of fish?”
“Oh, the head librarian knows a lot better than me, your highness! I think she can lead you there, right?” He looks at you with a cunning smile on his lips.
You glare sternly at Donghyuck, and the younger man shrugs with a nudge of his head towards the prince. You curse at the back of your mind before you head towards the prince. You fight the urge to stare at the young prince— make eye-contact, and the next thing you know, you are enchanted by him once again.
“Your highness, follow me here.”
The prince followed you obediently behind you. When you two had gotten away from the eyes of your assistant, Taeyong walks past you, and grabs your wrist.
“What are you doing—?”
“Just trust me.”
And you did trust him— like you always do. Taeyong leads you to a closet somewhere inside the library. You swear you haven’t seen this place even after working for like five years. He shows you a key, and you roll your eyes at him when he tries to open the door— which he was having a hard time opening.
“Did you conspire with Donghyuck or did you do this on purpose to have a private time with me?” You cross your arms on your chest, waiting for him to break in the two of you in the locked closet.
“What? I just wanted to see you, is there anything wrong with that?” He smiles cheekily. You almost bite a quick retort when he surprises you by dragging you inside the closet. Once inside, he presses his lips on yours but you resisted his kiss, pushing him away from you. His warmth never fails to soothe your aching heart, and you do want it so bad, yet times have changed and you do not want to get you both in trouble.
“Please do me a favor and get us out of here, Yong... You don’t have to do this.” You tried to get serious, but he holds your hand, and presses it to his chest.
“Just one last time, my love…” He kisses your forehead. “Please…”
“But you know we shouldn’t see each other anymore, Taeyong. Lady Gwendolyn already knew about us—”
“Did she hurt you?” He immediately lays his hand on both sides of your face.
“Just please, Yong, let’s just stop this…” You shake your head. You don’t want to tell him what happened a week ago when Lady Gwendolyn threatened you and you know Taeyong. He would actually break his engagement in one snap, and you do not want to be the cause of all of it— even though a part of you wants it.
“But do you think that won’t stop me from wanting you? Do you really want me to stop?”
You would be lying to yourself if you didn’t want him as much as he does. If the circumstances were different, of course you would say yes to him. After all, you wanted to end up with him without worrying about the consequences of your actions. You do want to push him away from you again, but again, he was irresistible. He knows you too well. He knows how you couldn’t resist him despite pushing him away. That one last time is a lie, you know it. You know each other like the palm of each hand, and it both warms you all up all over again despite all of the sins you two commit in broad daylight.
“Let’s just stop this—”
You lie to yourself once again but the moment he captures your lips, you want nothing more than anything but his warmth against you. You wanted to push him away, but your desire pulls you in and you still return his kiss with the same fervor and heat.  You are both hungry for desire, your hands intertwined with his own as it caresses your back.
“And even if you say no, I promise you that I will break this engagement, just trust me please… ” He pulls away from your lips, eyes gazing with your own. His eyes are mesmerizing as he stares at your own, one look from his, and you are once again trapped by him.
“I love you…” He whispers those words that should have served as a declaration of affection towards you, but it left an opposite mark on you instead.
You try hard not to feel the pang, aching inside your heart, seeing him about to be parted away with you. And to you, it was one of the most bittersweet feelings you had in your life— he was your lifeline so are you to him. You wished everything was fine. You just wished everything was never like this. You just wished everything was simple for both of you, but in the end, it was never that easy.
“I know…” You say softly before Taeyong kisses your temple once more.
The moment he opens the door, you know that was the beginning of uncertainties, and probably the end, between the two of you, and you wouldn’t be able to do anything beyond that except to mourn for your loss— that breaks your heart into a thousand pieces and it’s hard to pick them all up all by yourself.
///
The days became weeks, when you realize that you hadn't even seen Taeyong for so long now. Though the talks of the wedding inside the palace were so frequent, you know how busy he was.
Besides, the work in the library is not that heavy for the past few days. The prince hadn’t even visited the library, like you instructed him to. You wanted Taeyong so bad like you were before but in return, what you received was the price of loving someone too hard, and soon you will be left with nothing but grief and sorrow in the bellows of your heart and soul. You try not to further saddened yourself by lingering inside the palace, so you travel out of town.
The thought of him lingers in your mind especially the promise he made— you kind of hope it was true, yet, you are slowly losing hope for the two of you to be together like before. Either way, you stopped thinking about him, and just enjoy your vacation by the seaside. You bask in the salt air, brushing your skin, serenity wraps you in warmth and peace. You wanted this to set off your mind away
“What are you doing here all by yourself?”
You were surprised to hear a familiar voice. When you turned your back, Jaehyun from Peach Bakery was standing right in front of you, there was nothing different like he was back at the bakery except he was wearing casual clothes, and nothing fancy like you used to see everyday in the palace.
“Jaehyun? What are you doing here?”
“My mother lives here around the plaza.” The man smiles at you, and the prominent dimples show up on both sides of his lips. He then stands beside you, and watches the sky on the horizon.
"This is peaceful, isn't it?"
You nod to him. "Yeah, and I am glad I am away from the drama in the palace. It was soooo exhausting."
"Yeah, I heard that the prince is marrying the daughter of the nobles from House Song, wasn't it?"
"Don’t get me started with Lady Gwendolyn…" You sigh defeatedly, and the man beside you laughs along.
“Do you want to take a stroll around here? I think that would be a long story, and it’s much better if we did it around nature.”
“Oh, it’s a pleasure, thank you, Jaehyun.”
The two of you set off to a slow stroll around the town. The town was located in a rural area and you just wish that if you get to live in the palace, you hope you can live in a place like this— away from the drama, and you will just tend your lovely gardens when you go home after work.
“I didn’t know you lived around here. Seems peaceful to live here, doesn't it? Must be nice to stay here and just live far away from the kingdom.” You say with a dreamy far-off look.
“I visit here from time to time, yeah, and I still love it whenever I go back home. And don’t mind me asking, John said that you are the royal librarian? Is that true?”
“Yeah, looks easy but it wasn't, especially if the prince was around.” You laugh half-heartedly.
“Especially if the prince is around? I thought he was kind around people in the palace?”
“Oh, don’t get me wrong, I mean it in a good way, it’s just the prince could be playful and mischievous, but yeah, he was kind, don’t worry.” You chuckle lightly as memories flash around inside your mind. It is not the time
“By the way, I almost forgot, when you mentioned Lady Gwendolyn, one thing instantly made me remember what was the talk of the town before she stepped into the palace.”
“What was it?”
“I thought everyone knows it? Isn’t Lady Gwendolyn’s family responsible for what happened during the ‘Cherry Bomb incident’?”
“Cherry Bomb incident… Yeah, I remember that…”
You recall that night where you heard that one of the palace guards found out that someone stole the Cherry Statue, and they said it was only a prank, but it was already returned. Silly as it may seem, but it caused a stir the next morning in the kingdom.
“But I thought that was just a rumor the palace addressed last month, and it turns out it was Lady Gwendolyn did it?”
“You know what wealth and power can do to wipe away these rumors, besides it was just a minor incident, but I still remember the look on her face when she was caught red-handed by one of those guards. I was up that dawn when they caught her along with the Cake girls.”
“Guess, can't a woman have hobbies, huh? Looking back, it’s funny, to be honest. I can’t actually believe Lady Gwendolyn would be like that.”
Jaehyun smiles along with you.
You didn’t realize that it was already sundown. Time flies so fast, you presumed, in these parts. You excuse yourself from Jaehyun, but he stops you when you are about to leave him.
“If you want, I can treat you to dinner, my mom would be delighted to see a friend of mine.”
You cannot refuse a free dinner so you follow him along back to town, and his home is not in a faraway distance unlike in the kingdom when you will trek the hills just to go down the town proper.
Jaehyun’s mother is knitting a scarf in front of her porch when you and Jaehyun arrive. When she sees the two of you, she waves her hand, and greets you with a placid smile on her face.
“I didn’t know my son would bring his beautiful beloved to our humble home.”
“Oh, we’re not—” You wave your hand in the air, denying that you and Jaehyun are together.
“Mother, she’s my friend, I told you about the royal librarian, right? Here she is.”
“Ah, the royal librarian who loves my son’s peach bread. Of course, of course, you are their regular customer. What brings you here? Why are you two together?”
“I just happened to see your son in town. I was just taking a vacation for two days, and here I never thought that I would see a familiar handsome face.” You raise your head and smile at Jaehyun. Jaehyun avoids looking at you, but you see the redness building up in his ears.
“If I didn’t knew any better, I would think that you and my son is already together—”
“Oh, no, no, I have already promised myself to someone.”
Jaehyun and his mother look at you with your confession. His mother cannot believe this but she just smiles at you. Meanwhile his son, Jaehyun, is looking at you like you have told them the most elaborate lie, or, maybe you are just overreacting because you actually cannot decipher his face. His expression is quite unreadable, but the next few words from his mother shocks both of you.
“The prince? Prince Taeyong Lee? You know him, and you are engaged with him?! Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” His mother stares at you like you won the grand prize from the lottery.
Hearing Taeyong’s name should have brightened up your mood but the reason you were in this town was to get away from everything royal— from the prince and his fiancee and to the library— You guessed that you couldn’t run away from the flow of life.
“Ma, that’s enough. How about we eat dinner now?” Jaehyun stops his mother before she asks tons of questions about you and the prince. Good thing, his mother was easy to talk to, and she ushers you both inside their home.
“Sorry for making you uncomfortable. My mother should have known better.”
“It’s fine, it’s just… I thought I would run away from anything palace related. I am here to take a vacation.”
“So does that mean, I won’t stand a chance from the prince, then?”
You shoot him a playful look, and you roll your eyes at him. “As if I STILL had a chance with Taeyong.”
“I mean you can do something like, for example, speak that you are against their marriage during their wedding.”
“I would not stoop that low.” You counter him right away.
“I don’t know about you, but if you changed your mind, just tell me. Peach Bakery will always love to serve their loyal patrons.”
“Even if it means to crash a wedding?”
“Yeah, even if it means to crash a wedding.”
You hold your chuckle, and he does follow along, so you both end up bursting out laughing. His mother probably wonders why you two are taking so long to come inside.
Even if you wanted to stay for more than two days, you have to bid goodbye to Jaehyun’s mother. She wishes you a great journey along with his son, Jaehyun, when you go home.  When you get back to your healing vacation, you already know that you will be facing familiar faces again, and here you see back at the palace, none other than the prince’s fiancee. You honestly wish you stayed, so, you can skip the day of the wedding which is seven days from now.
Lady Gwendolyn sees you in one of the corridors, but you only smile at her and bow on your way.
“I thought you would never be back.”
“Lady Gwendolyn, good morning.” You try so hard not to slap hard in the face, but of course, you fully restrain yourself. You know it would not only cause a commotion, but it would cost your life.
“Stop pretending nice, you know you are planning to sabotage the wedding.”
“Now you have given me an idea.” You whisper to yourself, but the noblewoman had heard you.
“What is it? What are you planning—?!”
Just when she was about to claw her hands at you, the prince shows up along with his assistant, Doyoung.
“What is happening here, Lady Wendy? Is there any problem here?” The prince stands beside her. Lady Gwendolyn, on the other hand, shuts herself up but she still eyes you annoyingly.
“Lady Gwendolyn just told me that she wishes a recommendation from the royal library but I don't think she is fond of reading books as much as you do, your highness.”
You smile at the prince, and you already want to move away from him. Because the more you see him, the more you realize that there would be no other way but be worlds apart now that he was about to marry someone who is not you.
“If you may excuse me, I need to go back on my duties. No time should be wasted.”
When you leave them, you can feel the eyes boring behind your back, watching you go away.
You visit your favorite bakery once in  a while, and you always spotted John's cousin there along with your friend, Joy. You decide to talk with him, a small conversation starts up and then the next thing you know, you are closer to him. Joy noticed this and she teased the two of you but your heart remains loyal in the end even if it hurts you.
“Will you order your usual?” Jaehyun asked.
You nod at him and he seems to notice the frown paint in your face when you sit by the window.
When he brings your order, Jaehyun sits across from you.
“If you don't mind me asking, are you okay?”
You shrug. You don’t even know anymore since what is the point now that in the next few days the love of your life is about to be wed with someone that is not you. You haven't even seen his face for weeks now. And you know you are bound to give him up anyway now that Lady Gwendolyn had confronted you again the other day. You knew it would come to the point that the noblewoman would have known about your relationship, so instead of retaliating, maybe it’s best to just give him up.
“Well… what do you think?”
“What if I tell you should really consider what I told you last week?”
You know where he is going with this. You almost forgot that you mentioned to Jaehyun about your relationship problem, and wow, it is really satisfying to let those out.
“But that’s just too much…”
“Don’t worry, as a way of gratitude for being one of Peach Bakery's loyal patrons, and a loving friend, I'll help you with the best that I can.”
You want to refuse but Jaehyun has this charm you can't resist, and the voices inside your head do want to get back onto Lady Gwendolyn. Crashing the wedding without an invitation? You hadn't done that before, but at least if you have the choice then you'll just see the prince for the last time he was not wed yet.
“So? Do you want to go dress up as a baker and stop the wedding?”
“You know I won't do that...”
“But are you willing to see someone you love be taken away from you?”
You consider his offer for a moment. You actually wanted to see Taeyong in his wedding suit (even if it would hurt to see you that it will never be you), but at the same time, you might cause a stir among the guests, and worst of all, you will be banished from the kingdom.
“Then, I’m in,” You said firmly.
It was not what you dreamt of when you were a child, but there is nothing wrong with trying, right? Risking it for someone for the love of your life? You have never been so foolish with your whole life except you have already been foolish since you have been in love with the prince.
Jaehyun smiled at you. “This will take us a week, then.”
“Perfect for the day of the wedding.” You mumble under your breath.
And a week had never been so fast to slip away.
In those days, Joy and Jaehyun assist you with your plan. Joy even said that you can borrow her dress that you can wear in the wedding but you refused, you don't want to catch attention. Thus, when the day comes, you get in as a baker from Peach Bakery. When you arrive, you hear the organ play the wedding song, but to you, it sounds like a death march. You know Taeyong will make a joke out of it, and it makes you smile when it flashed into your mind.
You are wandering around the premises to blend in but John is the first one to recognize you with your disguise. John looks at you with widened eyes when sees you.
“You told me you’re not going to the wedding? What the hell happened— Oh, wait, you don’t have to tell me…”
“You’re looking at a baker right now.” You proudly grin as you twirl around with your baker uniform. “And I made it, can you believe it?”
John shakes his head with amusement.
“So, what’s your plan next—?”
“Oh, about time one of the servers shows up.” You hear the prince’s assistant, Doyoung, show up to John’s direction. To your relief, he doesn't even recognize you while he is flipping through his logbook.
“These pastries are needed to be delivered to the prince’s quarters. He likes his sweets by the way.” Doyoung orders you before he walks to the organ player, who plays like it was for the funeral.
You wave a small goodbye at the knight as you beeline all the way to where the prince is staying before the wedding starts. Some of the guests aren’t able to recognize you and you hope it will stay that way because you don’t want to cause any trouble— although you know in the first place, crashing the wedding is already considered to be one.
You take a deep breath before you knock at the door.
“Your highness! Your pastries were here, I will leave this on the table beside your door.” You leave his door right away before he can see you. You release a deep sigh and pray to the heavens that he will not recognize your voice.
What was even running in your mind when you do this thing all for a man you know in the end that it might not be worth it at all?
When you are on your way back to see John, you then soon spot the blushing bride by the dressing room, not with glee, but with a face full of fury, because although she was dressed in a beautiful white gown shaped like a pastry, makeup full-blown, she is yelling at a bridesmaid because she happened to wear white that was supposed to be color of the bride's gown only.
“You should change your gown right away!”
And so her bridesmaid did. You pity the younger lady because of the humiliation she had just experienced but there's nothing you can do but watch from the curtains.
What's the worst thing that could happen at all?
And, as much as you don’t want to admit that you will not do anything you will end up regretting at the end of the day, it led you to this point where you were standing in the middle of the aisle. You actually forgot how the hell you found your way here when you were just looking for John. But all this time, when you heard the piano start, you knew to yourself that you were not that type of person who would just drop by a wedding without having any invitation brought with you.
This was a foolish idea, your conscience screamed at the back of your mind, yet here you are, dressed in your pretend baker clothes, standing in the middle of the aisle with many eyes looking at you.
You ignored the leering eyes from the guests as they watched every step you make. You also ignored the bride's agitated look because let's be honest, she was not even the one you were there for. You then spotted the prince donning a silver-studded suit, ivory white hair handsomely slicked back as he stood aghast, seeing you there.
“What are you waiting for? Speak now, are you against this wedding?” The preacher asks you, snapping back to your reality and it hits you, you arrive at the time when the preacher asks if someone is against or not in the wedding. You know to yourself that being here is already a scandalous move, people would talk about how the royal librarian crashed the wedding and stated her objections, so if it would come to this, then…
“Well, I am—”
“Wait.”
Instead of fully speaking your objection to the wedding, you are surprised that you are interrupted by the prince. You looked at him with confusion, but you swore to yourself that he said, “I can handle this,” in his lips.
His eyes land on yours then to the preacher.
“I am against this wedding.”
His response caused a stir among guests. Gossips and murmur surrounds them, and of course, his fiance pleads at him asking why would he do such a thing.
“Your highness, this is absurd! She was a commoner! I am your soon-to-be loving wife!” Lady Gwendolyn holds his hand in hers.
“I have been against this wedding ever since I have known that this is absurd!” He pulls away his hand, and steps away from her.
“I have been waiting for the right time, and I think now is the time that I state my objections. And I have never been so surprised to see that the love of my life was here with us and I am glad she was here.” His gaze lands at yours, so do the guests.
“I have never wanted to spend my lifetime, soon to be the king of this kingdom, in a life not filled with pure love and passion. And I was glad that I met someone like her, she had brought serenity to a life that I never knew would be as colorful as the painted skies, and as serene as the rivers. And as the prince, I should have the right to choose someone that I know that would love me till the ends of the earth, because I, too, would do the same. And that is why I know that it was her, and not Lady Gwendolyn.” His eyes never left yours as he walked towards you. “This wedding is not for my liking, and by the graces, my father and my mother, I come to you not as a prince, but as your son, your offspring, would you grant my wish? And if not, I would rightfully leave the kingdom and abandon my birthright as a prince and live with my beloved wife as common people if you do not agree with my terms.”
The prince walks towards you and grabs hold of your hand and smiles fondly at you. His eyes twinkle as your eyes meet, face lighting up as soon as he gets to stand by you.
“Your highness, do not abandon me this way! If you step outside, this engagement ends now!” Lady Gwendolyn threatens.
When you thought the prince would go back for her, to your utter surprise, the prince took your wrist and ran away from the wedding. You can't help but be giddy and nervous at the same time. The swirling feeling flutters inside your stomach now that you are reunited with Taeyong. It still feels surreal to you that your dream came true as uncertain as it can be. You briefly look back when you hear Lady Gwendolyn scream at the top of her lungs, knees on the floor as she was abandoned by her own groom. The pity was not apparent, and you only feel the happiness brought upon you.
However, it seemed you spoke too soon as it was cut short.
“Taeyong!” The king roared in anger when he followed you and Taeyong outside of the church.
“I did not know that this would come to this. I did not know that the prince of the kingdom of Evening Cross Outlands would influence you like this, my child! And you decided to abandon your marriage to the royal librarian? What kind of nonsense is this? Do you want to be a disgrace of this kingdom? Go back there, and marry Lady Gwendolyn, and leave this woman!” He directed his attention to the young prince then you.
You shrunk to yourself. You almost want to die on the spot now that the king has his attention to you. You don't want any of this attention but here you are, the king addresses you like it was the day of your execution.
“That's because I do not love Lady Gwendolyn! And no other arrangement can make me fall in love with her.” Taeyong stands between you and the king, shielding you with his arm.
“You have not been asked to speak yet, Prince Taeyong.” The king pushes the prince aside, but he is stopped by the presence of the queen. The queen whispers something to the king, and he sighs when she is finished. His eyes still never left you, watching you with every step you take.
“How did Prince Taeyong fall in love with someone like you?” The queen speaks with a sincere heart as she stands in front of you.
You can feel the pressure punch down your guts. The silence is too loud, you can hear every heartbeat inside your chest. You take a deep breath, and stand firmly on your feet.
“I may not have been born as a noblewoman like Lady Gwendolyn, but I have given Prince Taeyong with kindness when we started as friends, and comfort when we ended up as lovers. I do wish he would live a good life even if he and I part ways, but if fate permits us, then all I can say is that: I can't offer anything yet but I promise you your highness but my love is nothing but filled with honesty and truth, and I swear to the divines that I am speaking this with my whole heart.” You are unable to process what you had said to the king. Your words flow coherently as possible and you hope she understood what you meant, and it is not just a petty excuse of a confession, but a declaration of your true feelings towards the prince.
“I do not need you to grant me something impossible, but a woman can dream, and I will be forever grateful for your grace.” You bow down to her but the queen stops you.
“Then that is what I only need to know.” She says with a smile as she clasps her hands with yours. You are genuinely confused at what she had said. You even look at Taeyong who shared the same sentiment to you.
“I beg your pardon, but I don’t understand.” You ask her but she only laughs heartily before she takes her own son’s hand and links to yours.
“It's a pleasure to see my son's beloved in person, so it's an honor to wish you both love, prosperity and abundance.” The queen then ushers you and the prince to the aisle. “If anyone is against this wedding, just let me know because I will be the first one to be the one to push them away even if it's the king.”
The king glances at your direction and sighs defeatedly.
“Now, where were we?” The queen links her arm in yours as you watch Taeyong go back standing by the altar.
You walk in the middle of the aisle along with the queen. You don’t feel any pressure at that moment, it actually shocks you as the events unfold so quickly.
Fortunately, there was no sight of Lady Gwendolyn in the premises; probably the royal guards escorted her outside. And it is a surprise that the guests are still around, and their faces were much better than when the noblewoman was present. You even saw Jaehyun, Joy and Johnny with the brightest smiles. You knew Johnny would be the first one to congratulate you, and of course, you silently thank Jaehyun and Joy for helping you even if you knew this plan was too risky.
When you almost arrive at the altar, the queen leaves you and wishes you with a faint good luck.
“I’m sorry if I didn’t have the time to pick a dress and you will marry me in this.” You emphasize by pinching the sides of the hem of your baker’s top.
“It’s fine. You look beautiful no matter what, dress or simple baker’s clothes.” He squeezes your hand, tracing little circles on top of your hand. “At least you are here with me.”
The priest clears his throat, and you can’t hold your laugh even in a serious occasion.
Who would have thought that in the end, you and Taeyong will be together? Of course, it’s definitely not you. But maybe the universe has the way of saying that everything will be alright in the end, and it is! Here you are, marrying the love of your life.

Before I Go || @yutaholic🔞💕💔✅ (doyoung x reader)
↳ The day has come for you to marry Doyoung and life as a princess is not what you expected. Your new husband is distant and there is trouble stirring within the monarchy. Now more than ever, you are determined to kindle a romance with the prince, but you soon learn that your marriage will be put to the test in ways you could never have imagined.
Binding Bonds || @jaedore🔞💕💔✅ (jaehyun x reader)
↳ Being the daughter of a top fashion brand, an arranged marriage isn’t what you’d expect coming out of your mother’s mouth. Especially when she says that it’s with Jung Jaehyun, the son of the CEO who owns one of the biggest trading companies. Of course he’s a heartthrob, a ladies’ man, and prince in the media, but in reality, he’s a royal pain in the ass. Your patience, emotions, and sanity is tested when you’re forced to share a life together. Will it crumble to the ground of the empire you’ve build or will there be a change of heart?
Coming Home || @cupofjae🔞💕💔✅ (yuta x reader, smau)
↳ an arranged marriage between two of the most powerful families drives a son away from the only home he has ever known. however, two long years past in success until his past comes knocking on his door, literally.
Lucky Number Seven || @paintmebare🔞💔✅💯💯💯 (johnny x reader)
↳ When your less than lovely cousin makes a jab at you, you finally snap and tell her that you're dating her ex-boyfriend (even though you haven't spoken since high school). Johnny agrees to play the role of your boyfriend, though the longer you pretend to be in love, the more you realize you might actually be crushing on him.
MOON RIVER || @ppangjae🔞💕💔✅ (jaehyun x reader)
↳ Your mother warned you of many boys. She’s warned you of the immature ones, the players, and even the fools and cowards. But man, she has never warned you of guys like Jeong Jaehyun, the President’s son, who seems to be falling in love with you with every passing day even though he’s already engaged to someone he’s been set up to marry.
***Seeds of Pomegranates || @/anashins🔞💕💔✅ (jaehyun x reader)
↳ (this was also included in my feb-march nct fic recs, so please do head over to that post! this isnt under the arranged marriage type of au, but it gives off the vibes of it to me!)

Revealing the truth might turn out to be the best option at times, and even though one heart breaks, it’s perhaps the only way the other ones can survive.
"What are you doing here?" You waited for the boy in front of your sight to revert back After brazenly looking at him for a minute or so.
"I could ask you the same." He questioned back instead of answering, his eyes were not watery this time, nor were his brows furrowed, all he wore was a smile, not the one you would want to see.
It was a grin of acceptance for his suffering, and it concealed the tears he was holding back like the last time.
"If this is your way of trying to come back then let me tell you it won't work." You blurted it out. "Haechan asked you to come here, didn't he?"
"Can you not stop assuming things for once?" He was subtle but stern, this Jeno certainly lacked the warmth in his voice from before.
He simply wasn't the same.
"I had no idea I'd see you here and if I did, I would dare not come in the first place." He declared and started walking ahead, brushing past your shoulder creating a fraction of physical contact.
He would not have gone three steps ahead when you heard the footsteps halting. "And just so you know, it was you who chased me around the campus.
“Y/N please just leave me alone." He was harsh.
"What do you want me to do?" You yelled, without turning back to face him as the two of you stood with your backs facing the others. This was followed by a moment of deep silence, giving room only for the poolside night bugs to sing their daily anthems.
"Just when I thought I don't care about you anymore, you show up. Just when I thought I loved you, you go away." The sniffs revealed the pouring deluge of misery as you yelled nonstop.
"I'm not saying that it's your fault, but don't you have a heart and mouth of your own too? Do you like being heartbroken that much? You don't even know what's going on with my life, you think I like being miserable?"
However, the opposite side made no comment.
"It's all my fault for falling in love with you, Jeno!" You cried.
Another period of stillness followed.
"Everything I had imagined shattering in front of my eyes like broken glass left me with no choice but to stare at the fracturing lines of fate."
The fact that you loved Jeno and that he loved you could never be denied under the sun, regardless of the timing or how you two were too stupid to understand and accept your feelings. In the valley of your dreams, roses were blooming, and they were sputtering day by day as though they had been drenched with fire. The ashes of burned roses were never a favourite.
"Please don't tell me you're not even here. God, I don't want to make a fool of myself again." You yelled for the last time.
Just then you started to hear sounds, sniffing and whimpering.
"I did not go anywhere." Jeno's broken voice stated.
"I-" He took a long pause. It broke your heart to see him cry like that again. Jeno took a deep breath.
"I can't go anywhere." He cried.
"You're pathetic!" You cursed gently, attempting to cease your tears.
"You're even more!" He reciprocated the feeling.
At the same time as you, Jeno turned around to face you. His cheeks were flushed, and his eyes were puffy and streaming with tears—not different from yours.
Without saying even a word, he walked towards you. You did the same. You hated him so much. You loved him so much.
He delicately touched your red cheeks while wiping away the tears with his thumbs. You remained motionless as you stood there. You and he only needed to make eye contact for it to be said—some things are better left unsaid. Before Jeno spoke, the scene was silent for around a minute.
"I-" He began.
"I'm sorry that I love you." You finished it.
Jeno nodded, sobbing.
The eyes that captured your heart and contained a thousand promises today just held tears and more tears; you could never win in front of those eyes.
You immediately threw your arms around Jeno's waist as he bent his head down and placed his lips on your forehead. He was compassionate; you could sense both love and suffering in him. Your tears, which were still flowing nonstop, were kissed as he carefully traced his lips down your face.
The impulse inside you made you grab his face and smash your lips on his. It was not like the last time; angry and rough, but a type of kiss you had never shared before. One filled with both, love and pain. You felt like holding Jeno so close to your heart that no one could ever take him away from you.
There was a sudden noise from behind the bushes again, as though someone had passed by. The two of you halted for a second, looking in the direction but then returning back to the business.
Sometimes love was not caring about the world.
-
"You could have told me this before!" You complained to Haechan the following morning.
"I did but you shut me up using the f-word and gambling with fate philosophies. Let me at least take a shower now." He replied. His eyes were not fully opened, and his hair defied gravity. Even before he opened his eyes, you broke into his room.
"Your best friend is in the middle of a love crisis and all you are caring about is a goddamn shower." You protested, placing your hands on his shoulders and forcing him to sit back down.
"It would have been easier if you hadn't kissed him as you said." He spoke forth his thoughts.
You sat next to him and said, "I fucked this up."
"We'll fix it." He put his hand around your shoulder, rubbing it and comforting you.
"Hang on! What on earth is he doing here?" The question came to your mind out of the blue.
"I don't know either." He replied.
"Don't tell me he is related to Jaemin." You panicked.
"Chill. I know for sure that they don't even know about each other." The boy reverted again.
"I lost control but I almost got over him." You exhaled.
"This is what I felt about Olivia." Haechan said.
"She was literally a random foreigner you hooked up with you fucker!" You jokingly hit his head.
"Give me the full story, without leaving out any details." Haechan turned his head towards you, this was probably the first time you saw him this serious about something in life.
-
"Good Morning! Y/N!" Jaemin pulled out a chair for you at breakfast and greeted you with a big smile.
"Jaemin!" You greeted him back, thanking him.
You were unsure of how to respond, so all you could think about was the food on your plate. The events of the previous day had been so intense that you were completely dazed.
Jaemin started the brief exchanges in between, and all the conversing you did was circle back to them. He held such pure stars in his eyes and every time you made eye contact you could not help but feel guilty about what you did last night. He was the man you were going to marry, and he had done nothing to earn the desire of your heart for a third man.
"They look so perfect together. Destined." Jaemin's father complimented from the other side of the table at the sight of his son and you.
Jaemin flushed nervously and averted his eyes at those words, and you grinned broadly. It wasn't until you turned to face your mother, who was only threatening you with her glare, that you returned Jaemin's gesture.
"Their wedding is going to be the talk of the town." Your mother commented.  "It's such a pleasure to see this!" Another woman joined.
During the dull chat, your eyes drank in the scene around the table. Everyone, including your future family, was under your observation.
Your eyes fell on Jaehyun. Instead of being the older responsible male who was always sought after for suggestions by the parents, he was only a normal man today. He was not lifting his eyes and he had been quiet all of the time. Maybe all these events were reminding him of his past.
While Mark just nodded in agreement with everything stated, Haechan had an earpiece in one ear and could not have given a damn about it. The mothers and aunts gushed about the new pair but your and Jaemin's fathers simply discussed how this marriage would help their business.
Although there were a tiny fraction of people you were still not familiar with, one of them stood out.
His physique, angular features, and gentle eyes gave you a strong sense of familiarity. You were certain that you had seen him previously, possibly only a short while before.
His posture and body language were quite similar to your brother's because he was sitting on the chair exactly next to his. He was also having trouble speaking. It seemed as though he joined the family here today for you had not seen him in the past days.
"Sometimes they are a little too much. I hope it's okay with you." Jaemin gently interrupted you, jolting you out of your reverie.
"It's okay. Simply put, they are enthused about it." You gave him a comforting grin in return.
-
Sloth was brought on by the slumberous midday hours. For getting closer, the boys had left to play golf, leaving you and the ladies alone. You made the decision to visit Daeun because you were bored. Her innocence and cuteness would wipe away the negative feelings.
You noticed discussions coming out of a room as you passed through a corridor on your route.
Eavesdropping was not the intention but you could not ignore and walk away when the topic of the conversation was you.
The mothers were talking about the future of their kids, specifically about you. They discussed a wide range of topics, including jewellery and bridal gowns, which seemed perfectly natural to you.
However, your future mother-in-law didn't hesitate to convey her eagerness for a grandchild. You felt stunned. Jaemin was someone you hardly knew, and having a child with him was not your first thought. Despite the fact that Jeno's return made your heart race, you still decided to shake it off for the sake of your family's reputation, this was a bit too heavy for you to take in.
"I'm confident Y/N will be a wonderful wife to my son!" She exclaimed with a grin audible in her voice to which your mother expressed gratitude.
"And this is what the daughters do!" She continued. "I can sit back and unwind knowing that my daughter-in-law will look after my family." His mother only seemed modern in appearance.
Were raising kids and looking after their families and husbands the only duty of a woman? Did women only belong to the kitchen? Why did the parents spend a fortune on their daughter's education if getting them married to well-off families was their only intention?
You were on the verge of breaking down. A part of you wanted to rage inside and let it all out but you knew it would mould things for the worse. You had dreams like any other kid and they were being crushed, for the hundredth time. Even the air of the twenty-first century could not wipe out the stinky mindset of the Victorian era. You thought of people who had it worse than you, you were subjected to more horrible things. You thought of the ladies in your family who were the crowns that were weighing them down day by day. Marriage would automatically give the husband a sense of superiority over his wife.
Even though Jaemin seemed different, the overall situation would still stay the same.
Two years ago when your cousin Doyoung got married, his wife met with the same fate. No matter how much he tried to stand up for the right thing, any voice that was raised for the woman was crushed down by the shackles of society. You could picture all of this happening to you.
Life was fucked up.
You held back your tears and started running back to your room.
"Y/N?" Haechan called out your name from the back upon noticing you. It must have been time they returned back.
"Not right now." Your want to cry muddled your speech.
Haechan knew you long enough to get an idea of what you were going through.  He immediately engulfed you in a bear hug and the warmth of it made you break down into tears again.
"It's okay" He soothed you.
"Your eyes are going to be weak if you cry this much." His voice was softer than the other times.
"Y/N~" Haechan continued. "Real bitches don't cry!"
He pulled out the hug, bopping your nose. "No more crying."
-
Two days passed and the same gala went on again and again. The vacation was coming to an end and nothing had changed.
The meal hours were still orthodox as they had been for the past week. Jaemin was still a sweetheart. Jaehyun was still quiet. Jeno was nowhere to be seen, you had not seen him since that night, he was never there when your heart needed him.
The only thing you could make out about the man from the dinner table was that he was close to Jaemin, but you were still unable to identify who he was. He continued giving you the impression that he knew a lot about you.
Even though you and Haechan were still formulating ideas for what to do next, you opt to brave the rain before they have a chance to be completed.
When the water reached the brim of the bucket, there was no chance of escape.
-
"I don't want to marry Jaemin." You spoke while keeping your eyes firmly on the ground. The only sound in the room was the grand clock's tick-tocking, also be kept in mind that your sudden words left them speechless.
"Do you understand what you're saying?" Your mother laughed, believing you to be making another joke.
"Yes." You said it again. "I don't want to marry Jaemin."
Tension began to build in the air.
"Y/N go back to your room if you are finding it amusing." Your father gave a reply.
"I'm serious. I don't him well, and even though he is perfect I don't think I can work a marriage with him." You said it once more.
"That's what you call giving a chance. You have to give him time." Your mother jumped in to find a conclusion.
"I've given enough already. He is not an issue, but I am unable to do this. Not once did you even ask me!" You began to speak more harshly and loudly, which was unusual, at least in front of the elders.
"Avoid making a scene. Return to your bedroom." Your dad reiterated.
"I won't. I'm here to talk!" You were stern about it.
"I understand that you're acting in the interests of business and society, but at the very least, stop playing games with me—this isn't the seventeenth century!"
Your mother was outraged as you yelled at them, but your father was silent.
"Is this how you are supposed to behave?" Your mother yelled back.
"Yes! I don't want to have a life like yours! There is someone I love!"
When the terrible truth was revealed in a household where no one had ever raised their voice before today, a hand was raised in response. More often than not, the fact was difficult to accept. Your mother's hand was a few centimetres from your face, and she was already crying. Did you cross the line?
On normal days it would be entertaining to watch a drama-packed scene like this but in reality, there is no thunder cracking or slow-motion replay of such an event, yet you were amazed when her hand did not strike you even after being hung in the air for quite some time. You could not see, for you shut your eyes out of reflex.
It was natural for your impatient eyes to open their shutters after this.
"Do you want her to go through the same things that I did?" Jaehyun spoke curtly, as he ceased his mother's hand that was soon to turn your cheek red. Where did he come from? Why was everyone everywhere? It appeared as though everyone had teleportation powers but you.
"Mom, please!" His voice sounded irritated.
"I don't want to go about this but then you know what is gonna happen sooner or later. Everyone's fine with me being alone just because I am a man. Have you not thought about Y/N?"
Your father was still quiet. Your mother was regretting her decisions, both of the present and the past and what Jaehyun was doing today seemed more heroic to you than what he did in school.
Things like these had taken place in your family before, the only difference was this time one was taking a stand for the other.
This time, when her lips pursed in an attempt to speak, your mother's gaze sank to the ground.
"Come with me." Jaehyun held your hand and dragged you out of the room, without saying anything else.
-
"I'm sorry." You were almost inaudible as you apologised to your brother, he handed you a glass of water.
"You don't have to be." He said offering you a comforting smile as if nothing had happened like he always did.
"Why do I keep on ruining everything?" You were frustrated.
"It's okay, I still love you." He used his hand to lift the corners of your lips, making you laugh at the face he made.
He placed his hands on your shoulders next. "Go and tell Jaemin everything." You nodded, it seemed like the right thing to do. He did not fault this at all, and it would hurt anyone's soul to break a heart like his. All he had done was be nice to you.
As you started to walk towards his room, Jaehyun called out again.
"There's no need to listen to them, or any of their bullshit!"
You wore a broad smile as you took steps further.
- You approached Jaemin's door and knocked. He responded quickly and greeted you inside with the same sparkling smile and charisma.
"Is everything okay?" He smiled sweetly as he asked, but to you it seemed a little strange.
"Yeah." You whispered.
"Yeah, of course, are you busy right now Jaemin?" You said it again with a brighter tone, asking the question at the sight of the same man from the dinner table.
Being so close to him brought up a memory. It was similar to the instant of abrupt realisation just before it hit you.
Jaemin cut short your eureka moment, "Not at all."
You caught a glimpse of the balcony. It had chairs and a table set with food and wine, that had been left unattended because of your sudden visit.
"Wait!" Jaemin said aloud.
Jaemin pointed to the elder man, who was not much different from him, dressed in a suit, with impeccable hair and exceptionally courteous manners, saying, "I don't think I have introduced him to you." He had eyes that felt as though they were full of stars and a recognisable smile on his sharply defined face. Jaemin introduced Taeyong, his older brother.
Although by then you were already aware of his identity, you chose to ignore it as you gave him a warm and fast welcome before moving to approach Jaemin.
"I have to speak with you."

✦•······················•✦•······················•✦
At the end of the hall, three figures stood waiting anxiously. One that stood out was a woman in her late 40’s, her white dress stained with blood that was beginning to turn brown. She looked so mortified and exhausted, she looked like she was barely standing up. Her walks were slow until she eventually sat down. Another woman, in her 50’s, was soothing her, the woman in the white stained dress. Yet, even with soothing another, her red eyes and heavy breathing, she too needed someone to sooth her. Among the three of them, there was a young man, in his late 20’s that was pacing back and forth. His cleanly pressed shirt that was once tucked, now gone and his usually cleanly gelled hair was disheveled.
Due to the silence that three of them shared with such a long hallway, once footsteps make the corner of the area they’re keeping to themselves, all their heads turn.
At the end was a face the three of them have not seen in years, except on the TV. Right beside him, was a face they saw nearly every weekend. Doyoung runs towards the three other recognized members of the family he both hated and loved. The first to greet him was the woman whose white dress was stained. Her hair is a mess, a look he rarely saw on his mother except when she wakes up in the morning.
“Mother?” He looked up at her up and down, taking notice of the blood that was all over her dress.
Anyone who knew of Doyoung's mother, Yoo Sujin, knows that she was the best definition of a trophy wife. She was smart, elegant, and hails from a rich family, yet the person in front of him was a normal scared woman, who probably witnessed the possible death of her own husband.
“Dongyoung,” her hands were shaking as it caressed his son’s face.
Immediately Doyoung took his mother into a hug. Now wasn’t the time to ask questions, he knew that well enough. Yet, everyone in this room already had their assumptions on the situation, no words needed to be exchanged for them to think of the person behind this attack. And in all honesty, it only brought him to a near breakdown upon assuming whom it may be. He tries his best to not think of what may be, but it was hard when behind the doors that they were waiting on his father was fighting for his life.
After releasing his mother from the hug, the other anxious person stands up and opens his arms.
Youngbin was one the current vice president of Byul conglomerate, a family corporation, yet in front of him was no one else but the cousin he grew up with. As Doyoung embraced his cousin, he felt the tall and mighty vice president of Byul fall into his arms. Youngbin was holding his breath, as he hid his face into the shoulders of his younger cousin. He was probably thinking of all the possible scenarios that could happen to his family. He was a father and a husband, he had a family to take care of.
As soon as they break up their hug, his aunt, Kim Juin, approaches him. And unlike the hugs he received from his mother and cousin, this one was one that assured him rather than rely on him. One whose hands were soothing his back, a hug that made him want to break down and cry at the spot, but he knew full well that he can’t do that right now.
Running echoes through the hallway. All five heads that were huddled around each other turned their heads towards the person at the end of the hall. He was still in his suit, but the upper buttons of his buttoned shirt was taken off, and just as it was with Youngbin, his hair that had traces of it being gelled, was now a mess.
“Dad!” Jinah calls out the man on the other end of the hall, and almost immediately he runs towards his daughter. For a second, Doyoung saw the mortified look on his face, one that reflected his expression of the past. He envelopes his daughter in a hug.
“T-Taeoh,” Doyoung’s mother, Sujin, slowly walked towards the best friend of his husband.
“Sujin, is he going to be okay?” That was the only thing he could ask her, in absolute fear that the frail looking Sujin would fall down.
Sujin simply looks away.
That was all it took, before tears began falling down the face of the man Doyoung had only seen with a smile. With his daughter still inside his arms, he rests his head on Jinah’s head quietly crying into her. Taeoh never shed a tear in front of people, that was except for Doyoung’s father. They’ve known each other since they were children, this was possibly the first time Taeoh would exist without the presence of Dongmin.
The door of the operating room opens, all they were expecting was another familiar face. The director and owner of the hospital was Nahee, Dongmin’s eldest sister, and she ran to the operating room as soon as she heard that her brother was brought into the hospital with his life on the line. She took it upon herself, to try and save his brother. That was why the moment they were greeted with a different set of doctors, everyone was preparing themselves to hear the worst news.
“Are you the relatives of Kim Dongmin?” Though the doctor’s voice was soft, knowing full well that the people standing in front of them were their employers.
“I’m his son!” This was the first time in years that he admits that he is indeed the son of Dongmin. Yet in his absolute panicked state, he was not in the right mind to think whether employees of their company would even care if he was related to the chairman.
The two doctors exchanged looks with each other, whether it was because they recognized him or found him attractive was the least of his concerns. He was already having a hard time hearing voices because his heart beat felt so loud right now. All he needs to hear is that his father was doing well, that he was fighting with all his life to stay alive. He doesn’t want to say goodbye to his father when they have not spoken a word to each other.
If only Doyoung had realized why the two doctors shared a look with each other, because to them he was desperately hoping to hear for the best and it was obvious. His eyes were bigger than normal and his face and ears were red and it was obvious what he wanted to hear was something that they wouldn't be telling him.
The two doctors looked between each other one more time before one of them took a deep breath in. “It is with a heavy heart…” almost immediately Doyoung’s knees gave out. He fell right to the floor and if it wasn’t for Jinah hugging him tightly, he wouldn’t have noticed that he sat himself down on the floor unable to hold himself up.
There was no need to hear the rest of the sentence for him to understand what was going on. His father was dead.
