Astarion/Karlach. Act 1 conversation after some questionable choices.
--
Someone approaches you at camp. You're a little on edge about this, tense despite the growing bond with your companions. The memory of the gith's sword against your neck is still fresh.
"Hey, soldier. Got a minute?"
It's Karlach. You relax.
"For you, my dear, of course."
She sits down beside you. You can feel the apprehension and ambient heat radiating from her skin. She picks at a loose thread on her shirt; you wonder if she's going to ask you to repair it for her. She always gets distracted mid-stitch or sets the fabric alight.
"You seem different," she says. "Since we've been here. Since you, uh, consumed that tadpole. Not sure I like who you're turning into lately."
"Worried I might be at risk of sprouting tentacles? Darling, I didn't know you cared."
She reaches out as if to playfully punch your arm, but catches herself, sparing you a nasty burn.
"Shut up. No, it's not that. It's just... You enjoy it, huh? The power it gives you. Power over other people. Toying with them."
You do, honestly. It feels good to be the one giving the orders, for once. And you need every advantage you can get with the odds stacked against you. You need to understand and control your new Illithid abilities before they control you, or Cazador does. An army of crazed cultists could be a useful asset if it comes to that.
But Karlach doesn't sound so happy about these developments.
She shouldn't have let you into her (figurative) heart. All you know how to do is break them.
"Well, how could I not? It's so easy to manipulate those brainless goblins. And we both know I detest hard work."
She frowns. "Nah. See, I think there's more to it. Getting your way and having a little fun at their expense--that's one thing. But I watched you torture someone, no tadpole required. So c'mon. Real talk, Astarion."
Ugh. You're starting to hate when she uses your name instead of a silly moniker. It means she's serious. Or cross about something. Or both.
"Fine. It makes me feel strong, all right?"
"Well yeah, I figured as much. Dig a little deeper."
Karlach will be the death of you, you think. Maybe that one will stick and she'll cry at your funeral. Good. It would serve her right for prodding so much. Trying to see you, and not just what you want everyone to see, either.
"I haven't felt anything even close to this strong in 200 years. You don't know what that's like. Suddenly I have authority. I can impose my will over others, force them to obey. With Cazador, I was so...powerless. Now I'm not."
She shifts uncomfortably. "I mean, that's great and all. But is that what you really want? To be like your old master?"
You bare your fangs. "I am nothing like Cazador!"
She raises her hands placatingly. "Whoa, hey! At ease, soldier. Didn't mean to hit a nerve. I'm sorry."
She looks at you a bit like you're a wounded animal. It makes you want to lash out even more. Instead you take a few deep breaths, the way Lae'zel once showed you during a sparring session. Harness your body, and the mind will follow.
"Finding that druid Halsin. Seeking the hag's help. Githyanki purification. The search for a cure is what brought our merry little band of freaks together, isn't it."
"...Yeah, I suppose," she says slowly, not quite sure where you're going with this.
"What do you suppose happens to me if we do find a cure?"
"I don't know. Who can say where any of us will be?"
"Take a guess. Lae'zel returns to her queen, Shadowheart completes her mission, Gale goes home to his beloved Waterdeep, Wyll carries on saving kittens from trees or something. And yours truly?"
"You could always come with me," Karlach says, a sentiment as absurd as it is sweet.
"No parasite means no freedom," you tell her. "Nothing to stop Cazador taking me back."
"That's where you're wrong." There's an intensity in her eyes. Not the familiar fiery explosive battle rage, but a calm controlled burn. "You helped me at least thrice over. Even if we never find a way to cool down my engine... Said I wouldn't let anyone hurt you, and I meant it. Your demons are my demons."
You look away, your throat suddenly tight, a confusing mix of fear and gratitude swirling in your gut.
"You don't know what he's capable of. You'd be a fool to do that for me."
"Psh. Who says it's all about you anyway? Maybe I just personally want to set the old bastard on fire. Sounds like he has it coming."
You laugh, and your chest feels lighter than it has in days.
"Right you are, Karlach."
"And for what it's worth, you know...I think you're pretty damn strong no matter what."
You don't agree. But it's a nice thought all the same.

To Victory ↠ Danse x Reader
➼ Word Count » 0.8k ➼ Warnings » None ➼ Summary » Danse has a crush on you and doesn't know how to communicate that.
"Get behind me, soldier!" Danse shouted, clicking the safety off his gun as he moved to shield you from the hoard of ferals sprinting your way.
"Why do you keep doing that?" You asked once everything had been killed.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"You keep stepping out in front of me. I've taken on ferals before, you know? I could've killed them." You smiled as you spoke. For a while now, Danse had been quick to defend you from any slight danger the two of you encountered on your mission. It was nice of him to do and you appreciated the gesture, but it wasn't at all necessary.
"I―uh, I do it for everyone." He sheepishly said.
"For squires maybe, but I've never seen you do it for any of the other knights." You were trying hard to meet his gaze, but he seemed to hold it strictly ahead.
Your statement seemed to fluster him as he started to stutter, "I―are you sure?"
"I'm sure." You giggled, "Maybe I'm just special." You teased, grinning when you saw how embarrassed he was quickly becoming. "Anyway," You began, "what's first on the list?"
"Maxson's sent us to clear out a building in Lexington. We wipe out everything in it, and then we're done for the day." He recited, messing with something on the side of his gun.
You shrugged, "Sounds simple enough. Are you doing anything after? Maybe we could go get a drink or something?"
"A―uh, a drink? From where?"
"The Prydwen I reckon. Unless you wanted to go all the way down to Diamond City, but that's a far walk. I'd rather just alert a Vertibird to our location and fly back home, wouldn't you?"
"Yeah―let's get a drink after this."
You nudged his shoulder with your own as you walked―or more so his side as he towered over you in his power armor, "No need to be so stiff, we've shared a bed before, remember? What's going on?"
"Nothing's going on, I'm perfectly fine, soldier." He answered, still avoiding your gaze.
You hummed, "If you so say."
You coughed as the smoke signal from the Vertibird grenade floated upward into the sky, calling the two of you a much-needed ride. The Super Duper Mart was packed full of ferals when you entered, and completely empty when you left. It was easy work for the two of you, even if Danse was on edge the entire time.
"Good work out there," Danse announced, hesitantly placing his hand on your shoulder once the two of you border the large machine.
"Thanks, Danse. We needed something easy after the last mission at Fort Strong."
The bar on the Prydwen was clustered, full of your coworkers as it usually is in the late afternoons. Tons of people stood together in the singular hallway where the weapon and drinks were being sold, the majority being there for both services. You felt yourself being pushed into Danse on multiple occasions, having to apologize after every shove.
"Cheers to another victory?" You spoke, holding your bottle out towards your companion, resting your hand on his arm to stabilize yourself in the overflowing crowd.
He grinned at you, clinking his glass with your own, "Yeah, cheers to our victory."
You stared at him expectantly for a moment, watching him take a sip of his drink, "So, you gonna tell me what's wrong?"
"What do you mean?"
"C'mon, Danse, don't act like you haven't been acting stranger lately, you're all awkward and shit. What's going on?"
"I just―have a lot on my mind." He vaguely admitted, focusing his gaze on his glass intently.
"Oh yeah? And what's the big thing you're keeping secret?" You asked, leaning closer to the bigger man.
"Ask me again later." He responded, "I rather not be around so many people when I tell you."
The subject was then forgotten about as you rambled to him about your week, him adding his input as you went before the two of you went off to your respective bunkers. Danse's heart ached for you every step of the way as he watched you disappear out of sight. He'd tell you how he felt one day, it just had to be the right time. He just prayed that time would come soon, or never at all, that'd be nice. He wished he could just sweep it all under the rug and forget about it. He hated the way he worried for you, it did nothing but make him tense. You both had a victory on your most recent mission, but he still didn't make any more progress on admitting his feelings for you, it'd have to remain a battle for another day.

I know I shouldn't let others influence my thinking, but e/lriels have made me dislike elain in the past where I used to be pretty indifferent due to her underdevelopment because 1) of what vile bullies they are (it's always the Nice characters those people flock to for some reason) and 2) the odd ways they choose to interpret her character is so hugely unappealing to me (they either want her to be a carbon copy of her sisters/gwyn, or remain a blank slate uwu baby girl without a personality for them to self insert on for smut, which I get but like... c'mon) I just wanted to say you and a handful of other eluciens are turning me around to her and are making me excited for her book where I wasn't before. I love your analysis's of her character and how you want to see her grow 🥹 I still see things that make it hard for me to look at fan art of her but every time I feel gross I come back to your blog and that settles my spirit lol I'm pretty sure y'all are the only ones that actually care about her character development and WANT her to succeed and grow.
Messages like this make my day, thank you ❤️ And you're right, there are way too many versions of Elain out there and some of them really are cringe worthy. If Elain's character was meant to be read a certain way then I don't think we'd have the constant (and I mean CONSTANT) references to how different she is from her sisters. How Nesta was born "Illyrian" and "Elain is Elain". Meaning Nesta was someone who had it in her to be in a place like the NC so they felt frustrated she wasn't living up to her warrior potential while Elain is someone different. How Nesta wore the Illyrian leathers in the war AND immediately took a dagger while Elain was against both things and only accepted TT after Feyre's reassurance (then walked away without looking back). (It's noteworthy that Gwyn too had no issues wearing leathers). How Elain declares she's part of their court but the color black sucks the life from her while Night Court black on Nesta brings Cassian to his knees and causes him to remark how Feyre looks like a goddess. How cruelty bothers Elain yet we never have that mentioned in reference to her sisters or Gwyn. How her own sisters consider her merely a pleasant companion and not someone they'd turn to first or loyal like a dog. How Elain, at her best, was thriving in a social setting, hosting balls, talking to everyone yet some try to pair her off with the most aloof character of them all who doesn't enjoy talking to others all that much. Some readers might not feel there's much to go on about Elain just yet but there are definitely things throughout the series that do form a picture and I'm not sure what good it does for anyone to ignore them. Predicting an endgame ship will only work when you take an honest look at who the characters are as individuals and I find that too many ignore the actual things SJM has told us about Elain's character (and no, I'm not talking about the things Elain is currently trying to convince herself of) just so she's a better fit for a male and that's actually really sad. That they have to erase parts of her in order to make E/riel make sense.

Grumpy
Boba fett x fem reader
Summary: boba is a grumpy man but we love him... Also for a real summary: the reader is annoying, always talking and being a goofy person. And boba only tolerates it because he loves her.
Warnings: slight language I think? Slight jealous boba, he's also a bit insecure in this one. Fluff, FLUFF.
Pic credit to @xxrosaaa29xx I'm using your pic for scientific research purposes 👀
Also dala means "woman" in mando'a incase whoever reads this didn't know and found themselves in confusion like I do most times....
I know I also said I'd write for din more but, c'mon! My bestest friend ever here inspired me to write this!
Thank you my amazingly beautiful friend @friendscall-me-mom this was spurred on because you 👀
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Boba was a busy man, he couldn't seem to hold still for more then two minutes. He always had something keeping him busy or somewhere to be, but that's the way he liked it. So ever since boba claimed the throne that once belonged to jabba the hut and later jabba's companion Bib Fortuna, boba found himself almost never leaving the palace, it was relaxing yes, a nice relaxing thing actually, but also a little too... Uneventful for his liking. So after leaving Fennec in charge over the palace, someone he knew he could trust, he brought you along with him to venture away from tatooine to accompany him on his first bounty hunt in almost six years.
When he had gruffly asked you to join him, it left you baffled. You thought he'd enjoy a nice time away from you considering he always spoke of how annoying you are, he always ignores you are tries putting a distance between the two of you. In your eye's he hated you, his actions displaying such. But in all honesty? Boba fett found himself attracted to you, his brown eyes always glued to you when you walked into the room, gaze unable to leave your figure for a second. His heart always doing the annoying flip it does whenever he hears your laugh or catches a glimpse of that beautiful smile adorning your face.
He pushed you away because he didn't know how to love you like you deserved, you was always so... Happy, bubbly personality and jokes putting a smile on everyone's face. He was afraid that if he let you love him, his usual grumpy and hardened personality would dent your chirpy one. So... He pushed you away.
But you didn't ever see the adoring looks he gave you, or the faint tug of his lips when you told a joke. All of those things went unnoticed by you, partly because the helmet he wore and the fact he always hid his emotions well. Something you found infuriating. But despite that, and his constant grumpy behavior towards you, you found yourself intrigued by the man, you couldn’t deny he was a handsome man. Dark eye's that seemed to sparkle whenever the light hit them just right. And although his words was always short, sometimes even harsh on the more stressful days for him, you found yourself hanging on to every word he spoke, his voice intoxicating, beautiful. You scolded yourself many times for falling in love with boba fett, but then again how could you not have? When he showed you rare moments of kindness - especially when you had both met on tython, you having permission from your friend din to stay with boba. Because din saw how you looked at boba, he knew you was in love with him.
But damn was boba oblivious, or either he knew you was smitten with him and just hid it well. Whatever the case, you was slightly hurt by the fact he always found a way to either distance himself from you are push you away.
Slave I was quite, boba sitting in the co-pilot seat while you let your mind roam freely to dwelling thoughts. But you let out a little laugh, the sound drawing boba's attention as he tilts his helmet in your direction.
"what's funny dala?" he asked, speaking mando'a, a nickname you've learnt well. He often enjoyed using it in a mocking manner though, it usually rolled off his tongue whenever he was annoyed or like said, mocking someone, aka, you.
You shrug, a grin on your lips. The reason you was amused though, was today's previous events played on your mind. You and boba had both stopped by a cantina on Batuu, only stopping their for fual and a bite to eat. Because you wouldn't shut up until boba finally gave in and took you somewhere to eat. And as you was both enjoying a meal, boba choosing a nice empty booth in the dark corner as he took his helmet off. A man had been flirting with you, it was harmless really, a few compliments on your beauty and a few hints of how the man genuinely wanted to get to know you better. Although he seemed nice you didn't really want to speak with him, so let him down easy.
But boba was, for some odd reason to you, pissed off with the man's constant talking. He didn't like how his eyes roamed your body, didn't like how you indulged him, and he really didn't like how he talked to you, using those flirty little comments and jokes, coaxing a laugh or two from you. Boba hated it, he was fuming. So without hesitation, boba threatened the poor man's life with a cold hard stare causing the man to flee the whole planet with fright.
Although you was slightly mad at boba in the moment, you found it hilarious now. Letting out another laugh you try and cover your mouth, stifling the laugh. "what is it?" he seemed genuinely curious but his words came out bitter.
"you scared that poor man to death boba... He literally left Batuu because of one simple glare and a few threats!" you laughed, grabbing your side because of how hard you was laughing now. "di - did you see his face!" you wheeze out through laughter, "he almost pissed his pants!" you shake your head and your laughter dies down.
Boba, unknowingly to you, had a smile on his face, Almost prideful. He focuses his attention on you now, loving the sight of your wide smile now. He had thought he angered you with how he scared the man off, he thought you was actually attracted to the other man. But seeing you laughing about the situation put him at ease, you wasn't mad at him.
"I thought he was bothering you, he was surely bothering me with his jabbering" boba tried to brush the topic off. He felt slightly annoyed he was jealous over the fact the man had made you smile and laugh. And the man was younger, his face not as scarred or aged as boba's. He didn't want to admit it, but he felt a little insecure when around you, why would you want him when the galaxy had so much more out there for you?
"oh he wasn't jabbering, he was being nice... But you scared him enough to flee the planet" you giggle, amused by the situation.
He only grunts in response, one of many signs he was in a grumby mood. You flicker your eyes down at his side, the side his beskar failed to cover.... Grinning you reach over and poke him.
"stop being grumpy" you muttered playfully, his visor snapping in your direction before falling down to look at where you kept your hand, ready to puke him again.
"I'm not grumpy princess" he harshly grunts out while taking your hand in his and throwing your hand back into your lap. "don't touch me..." he muttered. He may have came off as angry, but under the helmet he was flustered, your touch sending a delightful warmth spreading all over him, turning his face red.
Your smile filters for a moment, thinking you may have infuriated him. The sight makes him guilty until he sees you grin again. "you have to be ticklish, everyone is. I'm now making it my goal to find you're ticklish spot!" you declare cheerfully. Boba shaking his head.
"I'm not ticklish. let me be dala" he spoke while putting the ship on autopilot as he went into hyperspace. Standing up he leaves the cockpit, you following him. He walks into the cargo area, plopping down on a crate as he takes his helmet off, usual stoic expression on his face as he cleans his helmet off. A act he does out of boredom you've grown to discover.
"not ticklish eh? So you won't mind..." you sit beside him making him go stiff visibly, his hand freezing as he wiped the visor off. "this!" you slither your hand on the spot between his neck and shoulder and start tickling, but he does even smile, much to your dismay.
"please stop" he deadpanned. And you do so with a huff. "I'm not ticklish so stop" he continued wiping his helmet off.
You sigh deeply and cross your arms. "I've never seen you smile nor laugh, If I can't find you're ticklish spot then I'll tell you joke's!" you state, his face slowly morphs into one of annoyance.
"please don't... I left tatooine for two reasons: peace and to be able stretch my legs for a bit" he said while looking up at you, his dark eye's capturing you for a bit.
"then why did you invite me to join you? You know I annoy you with my presence" you say, arms crossed.
He invited you because he knew how men eyed you on tatooine with hunger, with a undeniable look of lust. He hated it, wanted to rip all their eyes out for doing so. He knew that if he left any man could waltz up to you and flirt their way into your heart. So he brought you with him because he'd be damned if he left you on tatooine, he never wanted to leave your side.
"because I knew that if I didn't you wouldn't shut up, I've heard how you wanted to leave the place for a little vacation as you put it and I had already planned on hunting so... I invited you" he muttered, blowing on the visor to ensure its clean before sitting it aside, now cleaning his blaster. It wasn't a lie, he heard you telling Fennec how you wished to escape the sands and scorching hot heat for at least a little bit.
Your heart swells at his words, to anyone it was nothing. to you... It was his way of showing affection. He knew you wanted a vacation so he took you with him, if you didn't know any better you'd say he even planned this hunt because that. But that was wishful thinking.
"did I ever I tell you the story of how Mando got zapped by those jawa's?" you snicker, knowing that would at least make him smile. But he nods, confirming you have.
"more then once mesh'la" he didn't mean to let that one simple word slip from his mouth, but it did, and from the beaming smile and small blush on your cheeks, he knew you knew what it meant.
"oh you think I'm beautiful now?" you tease, seeing the way he tensed up whenever the word rolled off his tongue, you knew that you turning it into playful banter would ease away whatever it was that made him tense like that.
"shut up girl" he grumbled while standing up, you doing so making him huff. "don't follow me around like a damn lost child!" he snaps, taking you aback slightly. But you shrug his words off, although they did hit pretty hard.
He saw that and grumbled something before continuing whatever it was he was doing. "what if I don't wanna stop!" you say with a giggle, following him to the poor excuse for a bed he used.
"then I guess I'm gonna have to face the fact you're goal and life purpose is to annoy me" he said, sitting on the bed, slowly stripping the beskar off piece by piece. You could only watch as his soft shirt he wore under it exposed the softness of him, his tummy practically begging for you to reach out and tickle it -
You grin at the thought his tummy would be ticklish, it was a mischievous glint in your eye that alarmed him. "oh no" he muttered as you grin at him and flop down beside him on his bed.
"admit it boba, you enjoy my company" you sigh with a big smile, his scoff only making you giggle. He opens his mouth to respond but whatever he wanted to say was forgotten the moment you tickle his belly, soft and adorable like you always thought it would be.
His eye's widen as he finds himself laughing, a smile on his face. He falls backwards on the bed as you crawl on top of him, straddling him as you continue tickling his belly as your heart flutters at the sight of his smile and sound of his gruff laughter.
"you do have a ticklish spot!" you laugh, his large hands resting on your hips as he flips you over, now he was hovering over you.
"you are relentless" he mused, his smile now gone and replaced back with his grumpy expression. "don't ever do that again mesh'la" he grumbled. But he couldn't deny how being so Close to you makes his desire to kiss you grow strong. Once he catches
"oh Stop being grumpy, it’s lame." you tease him, cheeky smile. He shakes his with a huff.
"You're an idiot" he retorts while rolling off of you, much to your dismay. He sits up and back in the position he was once in. You sit up beside him.
"but you love me" you said it before you could register what exactly fell off your tongue. Boba seemed to freeze beside you, making fear settle deep within your very core. "I - I didn't mean - like -
Your stuttering was shushed by the smile boba gave you, it was soft, didn't quite reach his eye's but it was still genuine. "unfortunately dala I do..." he didn't look you in the eye, instead, his cheeks starting to turn a little pink as he fiddle with a piece of his armor he picked up off the floor, he didn't want to see you possibly reject him, he didn't want to see your face when you laugh at him for confessing such a thing.
But maker was he surprised when you scooted closer and gently cup his cheek making him look at you, the genuine soft smile on your face different from the cheeky ones or mischievous ones you'd always offer the bounty hunter.
"do you mean it?" you ask him, voice barely above a whisper as your eyes search his dark brown ones for the answer, and you saw it, swimming amongst the endless brown hues of his eyes. A truthful, raw emotion besides being angry he showed you, displaying it before your very eyes. Love, adoration, truth....
"I have loved you since the moment I saw you, although I'll have to admit I thought you and you're mandalorian friend was already a couple. That's why I hesitated to talk to you so much" boba confessed, a smile beaming on your face as your eyes glow with joy. Your thumb subconsciously stroking one of many scars on his face.
"likewise, I've never seen someone quite as handsome as you before, nor as intriguing" his snort of amusement made you give him a confused look, wondering what he found funny.
"oh so you find me intriguing?" he smugly replied causing you to roll your eye's. Your free hand that wasn't holding his face, fell to his soft tummy. He tenses up and gives you a warning look. "don't" he muttered.
But you only grin at him, "why not? If you want to laugh at me I'll give you something to laugh at" you slip a hand up his shirt, his warm skin soft. Your touch had his heart doing a flip, if not for the fact he knew you planned on tickling him, he'd find this soothing.
"I wasn't laughing, just simply asking a question"
"after you let out a little laugh" you point out, he shakes his head ready to protest, but you had already begun your assault, tickling his belly. Practically in his lap again as he fell back.
You both knew that if he really wanted, he could stop you easily. But hearing his thunderous laugh echo across the ship and seeing his beautiful smile? It made you beam with happiness, a sight boba couldn't get enough of.
Needless to say, after the hunt you and boba has shared a kiss, slept in his arms every night as he claimed you as his. When you both arrived back on tatooine and into the palace you called home, Fennec had seen how boba had became extra protective over you, seeing how he couldn't seem to leave your side. She knew the hunt brought you both together, it was a relief, now she didn't have to see you both dance around your feelings for each other.

Masterlist
TLC Ship Week 2021!
*written for tlcshipweek2021- kaider for prompt 'Song Day AU'
@kaiderforever
Summary:
He keeps the crown on her head making sure to not disturb her intricate yet beautiful braid.
"Now you, My Queen are perfectly ready!"
...
Last minute panicked thoughts can make a person desperate for escape, a mildly insecure Cinder looks for comfort in her boyfriend- one who is having a trip down his memory lane.
Ship: Kaider
Words: 2k
Genre: Hurt- Comfort, Trip down a memory lane
Prompt: 'Song Day AU'
Song: Perfect Now by Louis Tomlinson
__
*Post Winter
A/N: Some mild changes are made in the song lyrics to meet the Cinder's characters.
Bold Letters are Song Lyrics
Italics are memories
Plain words are present
Kai's Perspective:
You say to me your jeans don't fit You don't feel pretty and it's hard to miss
"Kai, I don't think this is a good idea- like I feel we should just stay inside..."
"Cinder, you do seem to realize that you are the one hosting the party?" he asked only to receive a nod for confirmation as she examined herself in the mirror.
"I don't think you can ditch your own party, one which has so many international leaders in it at least."
"Can't you just go and tell them I'm sick or something like that?" she lamented.
Now, this took him by surprise, Cinder had put hours and minutes to make the State Dinner cum Lunar Ball a success and seeing how she wanted to last-minute ditch it was strange.
"Hey, everything okay?" he questioned, standing behind her.
"Yeah," she said, offering him a short smile, "Just stressed out to back out last minute."
I wish that you could see my point of view As someone staring back at you
Nudging his head in the crook of her neck, he placed his lips at the base of the collar bone, "Don't worry, you would do good!"
"Easy for you to say- I'm panicking on the inside! This is my first time trying to act like royalty. I'm even wearing a pretty dress hosting a big parade of leaders like the Queen of Luna. I just don't want anyone to think I'm the incompetent Queen who has no idea of what ruling a country is- I really don't want to come out as a fool to anyone," she rambled.
"Cinder, look at me," he asked and stared into her eyes, "You will do fantastic and not come out as an ignorant ruler to anyone. I will be there to help you through it remember?"
"I don't think asking you how to use the cutlery at the dinner table is the best thing to do to make an impression," she sassed him.
"Now that depends on the person sitting near you- you won't want Queen Camilla seeing you be unroyal enough to not know how to hold your spoon now would you?" he retorted.
"Well, I'm worried about that too," she admitted, clearly going back to the same topic from which Kai was trying to drive her away.
Sighing he asked, "Is this because of what happened the day before yesterday?"
Reluctantly she nodded her head, her reflection seen in the mirror before them.
"C'mon no one cares even in the slightest if you hugged me before all the masses of people and journalists, I have heard we are quite trending in today's news-"
"Kai, you are not helping!"
"Maybe you could go for a kiss next time," he suggested.
"Ha, as if I would, after what happened?!" she exclaimed.
"Who cares about what Camilla and Andrea think anyways?"
Cinder had made a nice fuss in her own mind trying to regret her decision of bear-hugging Kai before everyone, which on his part he was delighted about. And maybe Queen Camilla and Prime Minister Andrea had been a bit too loud about speaking of Cinder's rash actions.
"Hmm.. yeah. Obviously, I do," she said, clearly not paying attention to her words.
"Did you sleep yesterday?" he asked.
"A little bit," she hesitantly admitted.
"How long?" he demanded.
"A few hours maybe-" he shot her a glare which did its work as she answered,"- two hours."
"Stars above, if not for this ball. I would have put you to bed."
"What's the hurry, Kai?" she asked, making the tips of his ears flush light pink.
"Okay- okay. I think you are fine now that you want to flirt with me!" he affirmed.
She smirked and moved around to face him, setting her hands on his shoulders and laughed, "Scared of me, are you, Emperor?"
He pulled her closer, holding her in a warm embrace and whispered, "Aren't you wickedly evil, Your Majesty?"
He leaned in closer, capturing her lips with his own, tasting the red lipstick she had put. Before they could initiate anything more intimate, there was a knock on the door followed by Iko's voice, "You two should really come out before someone makes the right assumptions about what you are doing in there!"
Now this made both of them flush with embarrassment as they gave flustered looks towards the door anticipating the arrival of Iko inside. She never came saving them both from a lot of discomforts.
"Well, I think we should get going?" he questioned.
"Yeah, I think I need a moment," she replied.
"Then I would-"
She cut off his words, asking," Would you please stay here?"
"Uh- Sure, Cinder," he replied.
"Thank You, Kai." She said looking relieved.
He decided to sit on the armchair till she picked herself up to look like a regal Queen. With silence for his only companion, his mind wandered around, thinking about the person standing a few feet away from him.
One Friday night when we're all out I turn to you and you're looking down And you don't wanna dance I know you love to dance You never stop given half the chance
"He looked at her only to find her avoiding his gaze. Staying back he asked, "Hey, what happened?"
"Uh- nothing!" she lied terribly.
"Cinder are you going to really make me believe that?"
"I don't know but just buy that lie," she pleaded.
"You don't want to get your hands dirty?"
"I don't feel like myself right now."
Surprised he incredulously asked, "You, a mechanic doesn't want to go under a podship and get your hands dirty?"
"No," she muttered.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah. Why?"
"You just seem stranger than usual self."
"Trust me, Kai, I don't want to become dirty before my first diplomat meeting as the Queen while another mechanic is already present there," she insisted.
"Fine then.""
Just keep your head up, love, keep your head up Don't hide away, don't ever change
"Kai, do you think I should get a Garan's device too?"
"Well, I don't think you need to have that device. Like irrespective of what people tell you and what you try to convince yourself- you are a Lunar. The Lunar gift is surely fabulous- like don't get me wrong but you can feel someone's bio-electricity, it's sorta a blessing in disguise unless you decide to use it for the wrong purposes- I know you won't do that. Practically, I think it might help in Earth-Lunar political relations if you have the device but it does not really make much of a difference. Winter has it yet stupid leaders think she is manipulating them with her beauty. I think you should not install it- the gift is a part of you. Being Lunar- It is what you are! Don't change it because some angry citizen calls you a Lunar witch. You are what you are and I love you for that!"
"Kai if I would have been there I would have kissed you senseless!"
"Good, I don't deserve anything less after making such a sentimental speech," he said, smirking.
Keep your head up love, keep your head up Don't look away, don't look away 'Cause everybody's looking at you now My, oh, my
That time when she had addressed the issues on cyborgs and Lunar- discrimination on Earth. Her eyes were ablaze with passion as she happens to look determined to make a difference. To change the wrong-doings around her, to change the age-old prejudices in the society- to change the future of both her nation and her kind.
"-I believe that together we can make a difference. I hope the sufferings of people in the society decline and look forward to the situations changing for cyborgs, Lunars and Earthens. I look forward to a world where we can live together harmoniously. I consider that no one is liable for the nature of misery and treatment that my kind has suffered in the past. I trust we can change the world for every one of us- for the better of my kind."
Even when your tears are falling down Still somehow You're perfect now
""I'm so relieved that I can't cry right now."
"Cinder, I told you it would have been fine and I'm sorry... Besides I care- "
"Kai, they happen to call me names. I did not want to look like a sick crybaby before them who cried just because I was called an 'ugly Lunar slash Cyborg','" she fumed.
Seeing how she needed comfort more than ever, he hugged her, drawing circles on her back- trying to loosen the tension in her shoulders.
"Cinder, even if you were ugly crying right now, you would have been the most beautiful person in the world," he reassured, meaning them.
"You are perfect just the way you are!""
You never do but if you asked me to I'd tell the truth lying next to you 'Cause you're the only one When it's said and done You make me feel like being someone good to you
He wondered if he should tell her how beautiful she was. She was the perfect mixture of strength, compassion and determination. She never fetched compliments, never asked Kai how she looked, if she was pretty. That did not stop Kai from showering her with affections that she had been lost on in her early years.
Even at your worst You steal the scene and it's unrehearsed
"Queen Selene Channary Jannali Blackburn was sighted in the outer sector TC-6 helping a young man of 20 named, Mr. Stiton. He tells that he was facing difficulties when Her Majesty encountered him during her tour to sector LM-14. He states that she helped him fix one of the technical difficulties faced while flying a podship. Her Majesty previously had worked as a mechanic in the city of New Beijing. Sources tell she was the best in town."
Kai wondered who these so-called sources were. Somehow Cinder managed to excel at unexpected works- even when she was not trying, she had everyone's attention.
'Every insecurity as a neon sign as bright as day'
"Kai, I really think I should cover my hand! Just pass me the glo-"
"No! You are not wearing the gloves to cover your hand," he denied, making sure to keep the said pair of gloves away from his girlfriend.
"It's so different, not to mention with the hand being gloveless I feel naked, can't you please give me that glove, please," she begged, with a pout.
"Cinder, I said 'No'. There's no way I'm going to let you wear that. Stars- and Iko wanted you to flaunt your leg!" he exclaimed, dragging his girlfriend out.
How could a person as bold and determined and beautiful as Cinder, ever feel insecure?
If you knew what you were to me You would never try to hide away
Cinder, through her own eyes, was an unworthy soul but if she only knew what she meant to Kai- more than just a lover. Within just a year, she was his everything. She was the one- being with her made him whole, made him feel blissful and lively, like all of sudden his life had found its meaning. She was like the water in a desert, the fire in the cold, the chill in the heat. He would convey the depth of his feelings someday- not today. This was a conversation for another day.
I guess some queens don't need a crown And I know why
She looked too good, even powerful without the Lunar crown and Kai finally understood the meaning of, 'Some Queens don't need crowns.'
Still somehow You're perfect now
He keeps the crown on her head making sure to not disturb her intricate yet beautiful braid.
"Now you, My Queen are perfectly ready!"

A/N: Hurt-Comfort Trope or was that too much insecurity!? This I think is the last of my 'insecure' fics.
It was written for 'Song Day AU' using the song 'Perfect Now' by Louis Tomlinson (If you have not listened it by now you better do it right away!)  Just Emperor Kai love in his girlfriend Queen Selene- not going to miss a chance to call her perfect now, is he?
I have short-listed too many songs for this prompt and I'm likely going to try to write for all of them.
Be sure to comment and vote.
I do take requests so if you want you can hit me up (I write for Kaider only.)

Book Two: Sapphire (Ignis x Reader) Chapter III
The next morning, Gladio dragged Noctis out of bed so they could leave. Ignis finished dressing himself and looked around the motel room. He couldn't find Prompto or (Y/n). Having no doubt the boy had taken the spirit again, he walked out of the room. Scanning the area, he immediately found the two. What shocked him was Prompto's position. He was laying down on the ground on his stomach, his legs swinging back and forth. His camera was trained on the skvader as she laid down on the ground.
"C'mon, work with me here, (Y/n)!" Prompto begged. "How about you hide behind the motel and transform? And when you're ready, you can call me."
The spirit yawned, her nose wiggling slightly. She flopped down on her side with a faint grunt. Lowering his camera, Prompto nibbled on his bottom lip. "Okay, that was really adorable, but not what I was looking for."
"Prompto," Ignis called out, stepping off the porch of the motel. "You'll soil your clothes laying on the ground in such a manner."
"Aaand Mama Ignis has appeared," he sighed. Pushing himself off the ground, he held his camera close to his chest. "Morning to you too, Iggy."
(Y/n) shot up at hearing his name. She dashed over to the advisor and climbed up his body until she was situated on his left shoulder. She threw her long tail around his shoulders, nuzzling her body against the side of his neck. Once she was comfortable, she flopped down and allowed her hind legs to dangle from his shoulder.
Just then, Gladio and Noctis exit the motel room. Ignis glances at his other companions before deciding it was time to leave. "Let's see ourselves to Galdin, shall we?"
"Might as well," Noctis mumbled tiredly.
The group climbs into the Regalia and departs from Longwythe Rest Area. (Y/n) remained on Ignis' shoulder as he drove, enjoying the sensation of the wind blowing through her fur. She looked around as they passed through a ravine of sorts as the radio came to life. The station was broadcasting the news of the upcoming wedding between Noctis and Lunafreya. She could hear Gladio teasing the prince slightly when the broadcast ended, but tuned them out and continued to enjoy the scenery. It was her first time outside of the Crown City and she wanted to enjoy every second of it.
When Galdin Quay came into view from the highway, Prompto stood up in his seat in excitement. "Hey! I see the sea!"
"I "sea" it too," Noctis replied, eyes focused on the clear waters of the ocean.
"That's Galdin Quay," Ignis informed the group.
"Kinda wanna go for a dip," Gladio commented.
Noctis noticed the strange rock formation in the distance. "That a big mountain behind it?"
"No, it's an island," the strategist answered.
"Nobody goes to Galdin for an island, though," Prompto stated. "They go to kick back and get massages!"
"And savor the seafood. It's famously delicious."
"Sounds great," Noctis said.
"Somethin' to look forward to," the shield claimed.
(Y/n) couldn't tear her gaze away from the beautiful beaches of Galdin Quay. The water was clear and the sand was pure white. She already knew what she wanted to do, even though it would risk revealing her human form to Noctis, Gladio, and Prompto. She was going to relax on the beach and nothing was going to get in her way, not even Ignis.
Arriving at Galdin Quay, Ignis backed the Regalia up into a parking spot located by the gas pump. Everyone exited the vehicle and headed towards the Mother of Pearl. Walking across the lengthy boardwalk, they reach the entrance of the restaurant/hotel. A member of the staff greeted them, bowing politely with a hand over his chest. Their destination was the docks, which were located in the back.
They didn't make it far before two men approached them. The taller one had unkempt hair and was cladded in multiple layers of dark clothing. The other man had spiky black locks and wore a faded green jacket with a black t-shirt underneath. Below the waist he wore matching combat pants and black boots. Around his neck swayed the dog tags of what appeared to be his identification as a hunter.
The auburn-haired man was the first to speak. "I'm afraid you're out of luck."
"Are we?" Noctis asked, slightly bothered by the men's presences. He wanted them gone as soon as possible and he had no idea why.
"The boats bring you here."
"What about 'em?" Prompto wondered.
"You're not leaving anytime soon," the spiky-haired man answered. "Better get comfortable."
Gladio crosses his arms, glancing between the two strangers. "And what're your stories?"
"We're impatient travelers, ready to turn ship. The ceasefire's getting us nowhere," the auburn-haired man replied. He then gestures to his companion, who tosses a coin at Noctis.
Gladio snatches it out of the air before it can hit the prince. He examined the coin before looking back up at the strange men. "What's this? Some sort of souvenir?"
Prompto saw the coin and gaped. "They make those?"
Noctis also saw the coin and shook his head. "What? No."
"Consider it your allowance," the taller gentleman remarked with a small, unsettling smile.
"Yeah, and who's allowing us?" The shield scoffed.
He bowed slightly. "Men of no consequences." He then patted his companion on the shoulder. "Come, dear friend. Let us set off."
The spiky-haired man stood still as if her feet were nailed to the floor. He didn't budge as his emerald eyes dwelled on the skvader resting on Ignis' shoulder. Her sapphire eyes locked with his, earning a smirk from the stranger before turning to follow his friend.
"Yeah, right," Noctis sneered under his breath.
Prompto fiddled with his fingers in wonderment. "You believe what those guys said about the port being closed?"
"I'm skeptical, though I won't discount the possibility," Ignis replied.
"I say we go check it out for ourselves," Gladio said.
Walking through the Mother of Pearl, they pass by numerous of people who were enjoying what Galdin Quay had to offer. (Y/n) jumped off the strategist's shoulder and flew to the docks ahead of the boys. She sat near the edge of the docks and gazed out across the ocean. There were no boats in sight.
When she turned around, her eyes landed on a well-dressed young man who was sitting on one of the benches with his legs crossed. She realized he was staring at her with a wide-eyed expression. Carefully approaching him, she sat down a few inches from him. Her tail swished behind her as she squeaked at him, startling him.
The young man, having never met a guardian before, leant down and outstretched his hand to pet her. He was hesitant, but he pushed his fear aside when she stood up on her hind legs and nudged her head against his hand. "Well, aren't yous a friendly one."
(Y/n) looked away from the man when she heard Prompto groan out, "Aw, man. Not a ship in sight. What gives?"
The guardian turned around to see the boys were searching the docks for boats. The young man who was petting her stopped and addressed her companions. "According to my sources, the empire, giving strict orders not to let any vessels leave the docks of Altissia. Real shame if you were late to your own wedding-right, Prince Noctis? Name's Dino, by the way. Pleasure. The crown prince of Lucis, bounty hunting in his fancy car... Surely you didn't think it'd go unnoticed-at least not by this reporter? Lucky for you, this reporter has integrity. If you wanna remain incognito, I'll respect your wish...in exchange for a favor."
Noctis glared at him and kept himself from lashing out in anger at the man's threat. "What do you want?"
"Hey, I knew you'd come around!" Dino cheered. "Lemme see your map."
Reluctantly, the prince hands over the map. Dino pulls out a pen from his pocket and circles an area on the map. Putting the pen away, he handed the map back to Noctis. "Marked where you need to go on your map. All you gotta do is find me some rough gemstones-like this one. Do this, and your ship'll come in. Don't, and the papers'll run you outta town. Capisce?"
(Y/n) stared Dino down as the boys walked away. She didn't blink, which frightened him slightly. Although he was trying to hide his emotions behind a mask, she could tell from his silver gaze he would never truly blow Noctis' cover.
Satisfied with her analysis, she let out a final squeak before flying off to rejoin the others. She caught up with them just as they were stepping off the boardwalk. She wound up crash-landing on Noctis' head. She hung limply from his head with a faint huff. The prince tensed slightly when she collided with his head, but this wasn't the first time she's done so. He grabbed her small body and held her at eye level a few inches from his face. "Don't think I didn't see you with that reporter. You on his side now?"
Outstretching her front paws, (Y/n) made sure her sable claws were retracted before placing her paws on Noctis' cheeks. She squeaked, tapping her soft paws against his face lightly. A smile blossomed on the prince's face. He couldn't help but find her actions adorable. "Yeah, I know you would never betray us. You and Specs are attached at the hip."
The skvader climbed across Noctis' arm the moment he released her. She perched herself on his shoulder as he entered the backseat of the Regalia. Ignis, Gladio, and Prompto followed suit and it wasn't long before they left Galdin Quay to find what Dino requested.
Not far down the road, Ignis pulled the car over to the shoulder and parked. Everyone stepped out of the vehicle and followed Noctis up a stony path. They crossed over a rocky overhang that spanned across the road below. The prince, along with (Y/n) who was still on his shoulder, carefully examined the map before putting it away.
Eventually, they reach an outcrop where they find an enormous bird slumbering. It ruffled its feathers in its sleep, burying its beak against its puffed out chest. Prompto gasped at the sight of the immense beast. "Oh em gee. We're supposed to get near that thing?"
"Pipe down before you wake it up," Gladio hissed just above a whisper.
Crouching, Noctis took the lead and carefully maneuvered around the bird. The others were close behind him, eyes focused on the creature as they held their breath. (Y/n) flattened her small form against the prince's shoulder as they circled around the front of the bird. She could sense just how powerful it was due to its size alone.
Successfully making it past the zu, Noctis stalked over towards a mineral deposit. He grabbed one of the loose pieces of garnet stone and put it into his pocket. He glanced at (Y/n) from the corner of his eye once receiving a soft squeak in response to being able to find and secure what Dino wanted. "Better get it back to him," he whispered to her. She nodded her head in response.
Turning around, Noctis proceeded back the way they came. Ignis was by his side as they rounded around the zu. Unfortunately, the large bird was awoken by a seemingly unknown force. It unfurls its wings, flapping them as hard as it could and creating a powerful gust of wind. (Y/n) dug her claws into Noctis' jacket in a desperate attempt to keep herself from being blown away. Morosely, it wasn't enough. Her small body was sent sailing through the air as the zu took off.
Luckily, Ignis was close by and saw what happened. He snatched her body out of the air and held her close. He loosened his grip on her after the wind died down and the bird was out of sight. "Off it goes..."
Noctis inhaled deeply to calm his racing heart. "Oh, we made it out alive."
"Barely. I seriously thought we were at journey's end," Prompto whimpered.
"But that feat was fit for a king," Gladio commented.
"We've acquired what we came for. Time to return to Galdin," the advisor said. He released (Y/n) and watched her fly around without the fear of being blown away. She went ahead of the boys and returned to the Regalia.
Prompto had also been watching her until she vanished from sight. "You're not scared she'll fly off and never return, Iggy?"
"Not in the slightest," the tactician answered without hesitation. "The bond we share is unquestionable."
"In other words, you both like each other so much you stick together," Gladio smirked with a chuckle.
""Like" is not a plausible word to describe the bond between (Y/n) and I," Ignis corrected the shield. "What we share is far beyond "like"."
"Just saying how I see it."
The advisor's eyes narrowed at him. He wanted to question him, but he walked off before he could. With a sigh, he shook his head and followed after his friends.
During the car ride back to Galdin Quay, (Y/n) was in the backseat with Noctis and Gladio. Descending the windy road leading to their destination, she shoved her head into the prince's pocket, startling him. "H-Hey, (Y/n)!" Looking down, he saw her head pop out of his pocket with the fragment of garnet in her mouth. He wondered what she was going to do with it until he watched her fly out of the car and towards Galdin Quay. "Someone's impatient..."
The skvader was indeed impatient. She was eager to relax on the beach and that would only happen as soon as she could sneak away from the group and transform. She thought delivering the garnet to Dino herself would speed up the process. Why? She wasn't exactly sure.
Landing on the bench beside Dino, she placed the stone down and nudged it towards him with her nose. He picked it up, examining it closely to ensure it was what he asked for. A mix between a smirk and a smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "Would yous look at that? Just what I asked for!" He immediately got to work creating his newest piece of jewelry. (Y/n) watched in amazement as he turned the small stone into a beautiful bracelet with what supplies he had with him. Once he was done, he admired his craftsmanship. "Gotta say, this is my best piece so far."
Just then, the boys arrived. Dino reveals his newest creation to them and handed it to Noctis. "Nice work, kid! Sorry for giving you such a hard time. I just had to get my hands on this, even if it meant blackmail. You understand, don't ya? Y'see, I'm a reporter by day, and an amateur jeweler by night. This elusive little beauty's gonna become a masterpiece. To make it up to you, I'll share a little scoop. That special coin you got-it commemorates the Oracle's ascension. That guy was tossing 'em out to everyone. Musta picked 'em up back in Niflheim. And speaking of freebies, here's one from me. Come back if you wanna buy more!"
Ignis eyed the fine piece of jewelry as Noctis accepted it from Dino. "I doubt a souvenir like that could make its way into the hands of an ordinary citizen."
"Well, it's our pocket change now," Prompto commented.
"As promised, I'm in the process of securing your ferry tickets right now. Told ya, I'm a man of integrity. Should be smooth sailing from here, so lemme know when you're ready to ship out," Dino stated.
The prince crossed his arms. "We've been ready."
"Guess I should've expected that," the reporter cackled. "The ship won't arrive 'til tomorrow! How 'bout you find a place to spend the night?"
Prompto glanced around at his friends. "Do we even have the money to spend the night?"
"We could always go camping instead," the brute spoke up.
"We do have the funds to secure a hotel room. Although, it will be the only one for a while until we procure more funds," Ignis explained.
"No way I'm camping if we can afford a hotel room," Noctis said. "You guys go do that. I'm gonna do some fishing."
"Can't let His Highness go alone," Gladio stated. "I'll go with you."
"Me too!" Prompto waves his hand in the air. "I wanna take pictures of the beach!"
"Then (Y/n) and I shall make arrangements," the advisor informed the others. Noctis, Gladio, and Prompto left the docks to head to the beach. Ignis and (Y/n) headed towards the rooms available inside the restaurant and paid 10,000 gil for one. They entered the large, beautiful room where the spirit changed forms. She sat on the edge of the bed for a few seconds before flopping down on her back. Her (h/c) locks fanned out across the sheets as she stared up at the ceiling.
"Feeling enervated?" Ignis questioned as he had been watching her.
"A little," she confessed. "Sleeping has been difficult to do ever since we left the city. Even napping is difficult."
"Something plagues your mind?" He inquired.
"Nothing like that, but..." The sapphire-eyed girl sat up. She placed her hands in her lap, staring at the floor. "I hear a voice in my sleep, and even sometimes when I'm awake. I've tried to push it aside as nothing, but something tells me I need to listen. Maybe I'm finally going crazy."
"Shall we investigate this voice?"
She shook her head. "No, don't worry about it." Standing up, she walked over to the windows, which made up one entire wall of the room. She admired the beautiful, glistening ocean for some time. She then focused on her reflection in the window. Alongside herself, she saw Ignis sitting down in one of the chairs. He was flipping through the book that held all his recipes. With a huff, she spun around. Her heels clacked against the floor as she walked towards the door.
Ignis looked up the moment she strolled past him. Looking over his shoulder, he called out to her. "(Y/n), where are you heading?"
"The beach. I've been dying to relax ever since we first came here. It'll also help me sort out my thoughts," the guardian replied.
"What of the others?"
"They won't know it's me." She opened the door. "I'll be back soon, Iggy."
Stepping out of the room, she closed the door behind her. Walking through the Mother of Pearl, she could already feel eyes on her as she sauntered by many people. She tried her best to ignore the stares, knowing not many people have seen a guardian due to their scarcity. She clamped a hand over the sapphire gemstone embedded in her chest. She held her breath and sped up her pace so she could reach the exit quicker.
(Y/n) exhaled heavily. She dropped her hand from her chest the moment she was walking across the long boardwalk. She thought she was in the clear, but her eyes widened when she saw Noctis, Gladio, and Prompto were already on their way back. She thought they would've been gone longer. Pushing her thoughts aside, she looked away from them and prayed to the Astrals they would simply stroll past her. However, her prayer went unanswered. The moment her eyes locked with Prompto's, her body tensed. She immediately looked away and continued walking. As she walked past the blonde, she did force herself to look back at him and offer a kind, shy smile.
What she didn't see was Prompto's wide-eyed expression. His jaw was unhinged, hanging in disbelief. He nearly dropped his camera because of the shock he was in. Gladio also took notice of (Y/n), not recognizing who she was. He crossed his arms with a smirk as his eyes watched her head to the beach. "Now there's a woman."
Wondering who his friends were staring at, Noctis looked at the guardian. Just by looking at her, he could feel a sense of familiarity but pushed it aside since he didn't recognize her. He looked away and saw Prompto and Gladio still had their eyes focused on her. "Why're you guys staring?"
"Dude, are you seriously that blind?" Prompto gasped. "We just came across another goddess! That's two in two days!"
"If you're so interested, go talk to her."
"M-Me?"
Gladio smacked him on the back. "Go for it, pipsqueak. If you fail, I'll take over."
"I'll try...."
Meanwhile on the beach, (Y/n) took her heels off and walked across the sand. She didn't mind the sand sticking to the bottom of her tights since she could easily brush it off later. She admired the lapping waves and the various fish swimming around. The salty breeze blew through her (h/c) locks, a sensation she came to enjoy. Even the sun's warmth against her skin felt different. She wasn't sure what it was about the beach that made the sensation different from anywhere else.
A few peaceful minutes ticked by before (Y/n)'s attention was drawn by a small 'click' and a flash. Looking to her left, she saw Prompto with his camera raised. Her eyes widened in surprise at seeing him. She could even see the faint blush on his cheeks, not sure if it was from the sun or embarrassment.
"I-I'm so sorry!" He quickly apologized. "I-I should've asked before taking your picture."
The guardian smiled, desperately trying to suppress her shyness. Morosely, she wasn't successful. "I-It's okay. Is, um...is there something I can help you with?"
The boy shook his head. "N-No, I just thought y-you were really beautiful and it's my job a-as a photographer to capture everything beautiful."
Her smile widened at his pure heart. "That's very sweet of you."
Prompto quickly looked away, his blush deepening. "S-Sorry to bother you."
Before she could reply, he stormed off. She watched him run all the way to the Mother of Pearl, blinking in surprise at how fast he was sprinting. She hadn't expected Prompto to say such a kind, sweet thing to her. Now it was going to be awkward when she would introduce herself to him and the others in the near future.
Sighing, she combed her slightly disheveled hair behind her ears. She closed her eyes for a few minutes, listening to the waves as they lapped against the white sand of the beach. Just like before, her blissful moment was cut short when sensing the presence of another. This time, she was all-too-familiar with the presence and knew who it was before even looking. "Come to join me, Iggy?" Turning her head, she met his emerald gaze. Unlike with Prompto, she didn't stutter. Ignis was the only person she wasn't shy around because of how long they'd been together.
"I have," the strategist answered. "Although under false pretenses."
(Y/n) looked off in the distance and saw Noctis, Prompto, and Gladio watching them closely from the parking lot. They were trying to hide themselves behind one of the vehicles parked. "Oh, no... Is this their plan?"
"More of Gladio's than Noct's or Prompto's."
She placed her heels in the sand. "Is this another bet to see if you can get a woman?" It wouldn't have been the first time the boys had forced Ignis to speak to a woman to see if he did have any charm.
He pinched in the bridge of his nose. "Indeed..."
(Y/n) reminisced in the many memories she's made with him. "Now that I think about it, you never did bring home anyone. I know you're really serious about your dedication to Noctis, but that doesn't mean you don't have time for your own life. Your happiness matters, too."
Ignis casted his gaze to the ocean. He already knew why he hadn't brought home anyone, not even during his high school years. While he had been occupied with juggling school and his duties to the Crown, he always found time for himself in order to keep his sanity in check. Unlike many people his age who were bringing home a special someone, he didn't have to go search for someone who captured his heart. The young woman beside him already captivated his heart without her knowing. He'd been infatuated with her for many years now, but he kept his true feelings bottled up. He was frightened she wouldn't want him in return and even if she did, he was worried he couldn't commit himself fully to the relationship being the advisor of the prince. He didn't want her to feel as if she came second because of his duties.
What Ignis didn't know was that she already felt second in his heart. Ever since formally becoming Noctis' advisor, she was no longer first in his world. She was placed on the back-burner, knowing her life wasn't as important as Noctis'. In her mind, she was disposable. The prince wasn't. Just like Ignis, (Y/n) kept her deepest emotions buried in the darkest corner of her heart. She admired his conviction to his position, not angered in the slightest when she was no longer the most important person to him.
"Ignis?" The guardian gently called out his name after a prolonged silence.
The advisor reconnected his gaze with hers. "Yes?"
"You will find your own happiness, won't you?"
"I will in due time. As should you, (Y/n)."
She didn't care about her own happiness, only his. Faking a convincing smile, she nodded. "I'm sure I will find that special someone soon." It was a bitter lie on her tongue. She clutched the hem of her dress, bunching up the fabric before releasing it. Bending down, she grabbed her heels. Her eyes drifted over to the other boys, smirking slightly when seeing their flabbergasted expressions. "I think we can safely assume you win this bet. Make sure Gladio pays his dues. I'll see you back in the hotel room." She went to walk past him, but stopped. She decided to add a little spice to the mix and kissed him on the cheek. With a prideful smirk, she glanced one last time towards the trio hiding behind a car. "That'll give them something to talk about."
Ignis watched (Y/n) as she slipped on her heels and left the beach. He placed a hand on his hip, remembering how soft her lips were against his cheek. She'd kiss him like that many times before, but this time it felt different. He wasn't sure why, though. From where he stood on the beach, he could hear Prompto's wails of disbelief. He could hear him complaining about how he was able to score a kiss on a cheek from the girl before she left. His own smirk tugged at the corners of his lips, but it never came to fruition. (Y/n) truly did stir up the pot with such a simple action. Now, he would have to spin a tale to prevent the others from figuring out who she truly was.

Pairing: Ethan Ramsey X f!MC (Dr. Pooja Sharma)
Word Count: around 2.2K
Rating: General
Prompt :- @choicesaprilchallenge2021 Day 6: Sonder
Derry Roasters was abuzz with enthusiasm, but it didn't seem to act on her. To her, it felt like someone had turned the hourglass of her life, let the sand flow and forgot to turn it back. Her time had stopped there on its tracks.
Around her, people rushed through their day, not waiting for anyone. She felt like the still picture amidst a fast-motion video. Sonder was the word Pooja would use to describe the way she felt. Sonder, for her, is Surprise and Wonder intertwined in a single word. Wonder, at how life changes every minute of every moment. And Surprise at how, even after so many afflictions, tribulations, one will find the happiness that destiny had in store for them.
The thoughts in her mind swirled and asked for all her cognizance. Transfixing her mind in them, she let her emotions engulf her with leaden steps.
Ting Ding Ding
Pooja's eyes tardily broke contact with the empty bone china coffee mug as she picked up her phone.
Brookline Rejuvenate sent you an email.
But for her, it manifested being a testament that all of it was happening.
That she was not tumbling around in an atrocious daydream, which would vanish the instant, she fluttered her orbs agape.
Yes.
Edenbrook, the nonpareil hospital in the entire States, was closing down.
Every day of operating there, felt like she was relishing in the will-o'-the-wisp of her aspirations.
The thoughts of Edenbrook made her mind travel to the day when it all began. The elegant calligraphy on the envelope with the Cerulean and Lime Green Logo that bore her name. The message that turned her life upside down forever.
Then the Diagnostics Team. The extreme cases they had solved. They saw its end too. They were working their free hours at the free clinic or in the ER. Everything, every day, seemed to rush around her.
The days seemed to fly past, and so did the time remaining for Edenbrook.
Everyone had started looking up places to carry on with their medical careers & residencies. But no one wanted to leave Edenbrook before it closed down. They wanted to cherish every day before the ticking clock struck midnight and supply the last of their best healthcare to as many people as possible.
The thought of leaving everything behind was painful for Pooja. You are taking away the most valuable of things, she convinced herself. You are taking away memories. Beautiful memories. Painful memories.
But there was another nagging thought that piqued her time and again.
The Gala was everything she ever imagined. But the most memorable of the moments was The Kiss. He had kissed her.
In front of everyone.
Her mind went to the embedding touches Ethan left on her that night.
Now, as Edenbrook's time came to an end, and she planned about the rest of her residency, she thought of her and Ethan's relationship.
Were they meant to be? Were all those feather-light touches, the kisses in the rain, the tears they shed together, going to end in vain? Were their lives only connected till here?
Was it the beginning of the end?
"You're here."
You will live a hundred years, Ethan Ramsey.
Tearing away from the colossal reticulation of her thoughts, she turned towards him. His summery blues, meeting her ambers.
"Hey You"
Ethan came over and sat in front of her.
"You didn't tell me you were coming here. I had to ask Alex and Sienna to know about your whereabouts."
Pooja let out a tiny laugh. "Whereabouts? You are making me feel like a criminal."
Ethan chuckled. "If so, then you would be the most beautiful criminal I have ever seen."
This made Pooja giggle harder. "You are talking as if you have met hundreds of criminals."
"I will never win any debate with you. So let's just...let it be?"
"Accepting Defeat, Dr. Ramsey?"
"If it makes you smile that, then I will always accept defeat for you."
A blush crept up her neck as she said, "Okay, too much. Now stop"
Ethan let out a last chuckle as his order arrived. A Vienna, a coffee and black forest cake for him and a butterscotch one for her.
Taking her piece in hand, Pooja said, "All I need is you."
"Hey, what about me?"
"Ah, you know you can never win the battle against this" She held up the cake.
"You're ridiculous."
A subtle tee-hee, and they were surrounded with a perfect silence as they got lost in each other's world.
A world where all the hustle-bustle inundating them evaporated. There were no questions asked, no side looks given, and no stops in the world of their love. In this world, their coffee, cake and their memories were their sole companions.
There were no catechisms, no side looks given, and no obstructions in the world of their love.
"So…umm..." Ethan began.
"Yeah?"
Oh, C'mon Ramsey, it is obvious that you have fallen real deep for her! Alex's usual tease came ringing in his ears.
Oh Lexandra, why don't you leave me alone?
But she is right.
Ugh! Since when did The Ethan Ramsey, the man who could make an intern tremble with fear, start to fumble?
He took a deep breath, centred himself and began again.
"Can we go on a tour? With all of your friends or the Invincibles as you all ridiculously like to call yourselves.
"Wait. You Remember That?"
"How can I forget when you are singing the name in front of me every 10 minutes or so?"
"Or maybe you need a membership to the Invincibles? Which, I should make clear, you are not getting."
"You are ridiculous-"
"-ly smart. Ya, I know, Thank you very much. And speaking of the trip, I would go on a trip at any time, anywhere, you don't need to ask. Just tell. I will be ready in 10 minutes."
"You know I am not talking about a trip from here to Brookline. We could go on, you know, an international tour. To a place of your choices."
Pooja's face became Stoic, expressionless. A sudden flurry of anxiousness spread through Ethan's Heart.
Then he remembered. A tip Alex had given him "free of cost" as she would like to say, a few days back.
"Anytime you are asking Poo to go on a trip to one of her favourite places, just count till five after placing your point."
"Five? Why?"
"Just do as I say, and you will see for yourself" Alex winked and left.
So he did.
One, He saw Pooja's eyes widen a bit.
Two, Her Amber eyes were full of joy and excitement.
Three, A light blush and the faint dimple on her left cheek appeared, adding a shimmer to her beauty.
Four, Her lips crept up in a faint smile.
Five, Her face and expression fully express-
"YAY! YAY! YAY!" Her cheer came along which earned her side-glances from the other customers. But who cares when it's an international trip you are talking about?
Of course, Ethan thought, Lexandra was right.
"That is a Thantastic idea!!!"
"I am sorry, but Thantastic?" Ethan couldn't help but chuckle. She was a source of his never-ending amusement.
"Gawd Thanie! Thantastic is just an Ethan version of Fantastic. Duh!"
She bent over the table.
Deceiving him to think that she was going to kiss him. In front of the entire coffee shop.
Only for her to smack his forehead lightly and comedically.
Since when did you become a sappy idiot like that? Ethan mentally ridiculed himself.
"Stop making a comedy show out of me in front of the entire coffee shop."
"Stop acting comedically, and I will stop too" Pooja shrugged and flashed that one dimpled smile that he had come to be a fan of
The things the girl does to me! And I thought love didn't exist. Even Ethan's mind was satirizing him.
The snap of two fingers brought him back from Ethan-land to the Derry Roasters, Boston, Massachusetts.
"I thought Ethan-land doesn't exist. Glad to be proven wrong." Pooja's mocking giggle was a melody he wanted to record on a vinyl and play on a record player time and again.
He thought of presenting a counter-argument.
You still won't win.
So instead of wasting his energy in vain, he decided to save it for later.
"Hmm. Coffee done. Now let's head home. We will ask them to pack the cakes."
"Buy a few more."
"Hmm?"
"You know trip planning? And I am pretty sure I said that you can bring along your fri-"
"I think you mean The Invincibles?" Pooja cut him off, cocking her right eyebrow.
"Whatever." Rolling his eyes, Ethan didn't let his amusement seep through his features.
They both got up. Ethan bought a bunch of cakes while Pooja giggled, nearly tripped and sprained her left ankle lightly, and finally succeeded in texting her mates to join them for trip-ing plan.
When Ethan came out of the coffee shop, hands full, he saw her slight limping as she walked towards their car.
Shaking his head, and having a mental peal of laughter because of her clumsiness, he went to the car. Opening the rear door, he kept all the goodies on the back seat.
Then he turned towards Pooja. She still had all of her attention transfixed in reading something fascinating on her phone. She didn't even notice him.
In a quick motion, he went up to her, and before she could process the whole thing, picked her up bridal style and seated her in the front passenger seat.
The next minute, he was behind the wheel and was driving them home. More specifically, The condo of the Invincibles.
Mental eye-roll.
"Ahem, Ahem"
Of Course. She was yet to speak something.
"So what are you now, Super Ramsey? Picking me up in the middle of the pathway?"
"You were limping, Poo."
"You know I can manage myself just fine."
He stopped the car. The condo was still a block away.
"Why did you stop? This is not where we live. You know that."
Ethan turned towards her and caressed her cheek softly.
She melted into his touch. Her eyes closed momentarily, her beautiful eyes and alluring shadowy eyelashes reflecting the serenity her heartfelt.
"Poo. I know you are a strong, independent woman. You like to be self-dependent."
He paused a short breath. Taking her hand in his and kissing the top of it, he continued,
"But I cannot see you hurt, be it a slight limp or a broken arm. I will always take care of you."
"I know you will. You always do. But a limp, a broken arm is faint compared to what I have been through. You don't need to worry about me all the time."
"I will always worry about you."
"Eth-"
He placed a finger on her lips. "No more ifs, or buts. It is something I wanna do. Not something I have to do."
And with a look of assurance and care, Ethan started to drive again. His features were calm, his blue eyes had hues of red and golden of the traffic in front of them.
The unsaid string of words that dangled between the two of them was what had tied them together so strongly. Which made him believe she was meant to be his and her to believe that he was meant to be hers.
Pooja waited for that day, impatiently, when he would be hers and she, his. Angst in fiction was her love, but angst in her real life? Not really. At least, not with Ethan Ramsey.
Stop being melodramatic.
She snapped at herself.
It took them an additional five minutes to reach the condo. Once there, Ethan was the first one to get out of the car. Pooja followed. She stood next to Ethan, who was now taking out the pastry boxes.
His senses called out to him, informed him of her presence. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the exact spot where she stood.
Then, as if it was a second nature to him, he swept her towards him by the waist and kissed her in four steps.
First, He kissed her dimpled cheek, earning a gasp from her.
Then, he kissed her forehead and left silent praises for her heart to hear.
Third, His suck on her neck felt like the touch of a feather to her.
And Lastly, His soft pink lips meet her rosy moist ones, full of passion and a love so pure that threatened to overpower their senses.
Slowly, he turned her around in the rhythm of a dance, and hugging her from the back, he sensually pulled at the tip of her ear as his soft words warmed her heart.
"Shall we?"
Not what she wanted to hear, but the feels in her heart didn't let her feel disappointed.
"Of Course." A reply she made with an unvoiced wish that the next time he kisses her like he did today, he says those words which will make her, his forever.
PS: Here's to hoping that this was not an utter mess and you enjoyed it. Thank you for reading and have a good day ahead🧡

Bulletproof Heart Pt.4
Tumblr media
AN: YAY its finally here! Thank you so much to everyone for reading and for your patience! This is the final part of this series. enjoy <3
"Y/N?" a gentle tap on the wall outside your bunk. It was Liz. "We have an interview with Spin in like 5 minutes."
You groaned and pulled your wrinkled sheet over your face, turning away from the sound of her voice, soft and hesitant as though she were afraid the slightest noise would shatter you further.
"You guys go without me," was your muffled reply, "I've hogged the spotlight enough anyway."
" Are you sure? They'll probably be pissed the lead singer isn't there."
"Then let them be pissed."
Liz lingered in silence for a moment before deciding it was best to leave you be. It had been a couple of weeks since you'd found out about Alex's little foray into filmmaking, and a gush of old trauma had emerged new again. All the work you had put in to rebuild yourself and to forge a new life had all but crumbled away in a matter of minutes, and you isolated yourself in response.
You stopped leaving the bus because of the stares. Once rumors had gotten out that there was video footage of you doing the deed, people seemed to glance over at you before whispering insidious somethings among their companions. You didn't need to hear their conversations to know just how humiliating their words were. Things took a turn for the worse when reporters began to have the audacity to ask you about the video, probing into if you were in a relationship with Alex. It was then that you realized he had sabotaged your moment, your success, and made it all about him.
You began to miss a few shows, something you had never done before. But you just couldn't bring yourself to give a damn. Your bandmates kept their distance, realizing you needed your space; but their concern was permanently painted on their faces.
"Hey Y/N," Gavin spoke hesitantly one afternoon, "You know...Gerard's been asking about you."
The sound of his name made your heart beat quicker. You hadn't made an effort to see him since the video came out. "Oh?"
"Yeah he really wants to see you. He's worried about you...we all are."
"I'm fine." you said curtly. "I mean, tell him not to. I'm fine. I just need to be alone."
"You sure? I think some social interaction might do you some good--"
"Gavin, I want to be alone. Please."
He merely nodded before heading out the bus door, finally giving you what you asked for.
Out of respect for the fans, you managed to pick yourself for performances again, but it felt like you were merely going through the motions, your passion nearly extinguished. You became angry at yourself for feeling this way, like you were giving up on yourself and your goals. Between sadness and guilt, there was no bright side you could look to as an escape.
Then, you ran into Alex.
This was what you had really been dreading. You knew how smug he must be, knowing he must've gotten under your skin, his favorite place to be. You'd snuck out of the bus for some much needed fresh air, but you didn't need to go far before you heard your name being called.
"Y/N! wait up!" a chill shot down your spine. You didn't turn around. Instead, you began walking faster.
"Hey, hey, hold on a second--" He grasped your arm, but you pulled it back so quickly it seemed to surprise him.
"Leave me the fuck alone."
"C'mon don't be mad."
You couldn't help but laugh at the nerve of his comment. "How could I not be? I didn't even know you had filmed me. I didn't get to agree to any of this! And then you decide to make it public? And you," you said, angry tears building up to a waterfall, pushing a fist into his chest, "you are a nightmare that won't go away! Why can't you just leave me alone?"
Alex was calm-- So calm that it only angered you further. "You're thinking about this the wrong way. The publicity could be great--I mean people are already eating it up. They love us together. Honestly? I did us both a favor." He smirked, making your skin crawl. "But there's something else, Y/N. Something you should remember." He leaned forward, speaking into your ear in a low, serpentine voice, "This is what happens when you think you can go off and make something of yourself without me."
You were speechless, your stomach dropping as if it had been kicked. "You're disgusting. I'm leaving."
"Going to see your friend Gerard? Hey, ask him what he thinks of our movie for me. I'm making another one with some My Chem fans anyway." He spoke to you with your back turned, already walking away, but you could hear him smiling.
You halted in your steps, torn between slapping Alex across the face, crying, or simply walking away. After a deep breath and far more self control than you knew you possesed, you chose the latter, swiftly walking back towards your bus to isolate once more.
****
The sun was revolting.
That was the first thought when Gavin flung open the curtain that marked the border of your bunk, your own personal ecosystem that no one had dared enter for the past few weeks. He kneeled on your mattress and reached over you to open the blinds on your wall, and you winced as the sun struck your face like a laser.
"Merry Christmas, Y/N!"
"Gavin, its August."
"Well it might as well be Christmas when you hear what I have to tell you."
You groaned and rubbed your eyes. "What is it? I'm prepared to be underwhelmed."
"I didn't even need to open that window! There's that bright and sunny optimism we've come to know and love."
You hit him with a pillow. "Out with it."
"Alex got--"
"ALEX GOT KICKED OFF WARPED TOUR!" Liz shouted, bursting into your bunk from out of nowhere.
"What the hell Liz! I wanted to tell her!"
"Too slow!"she teased.
Your head was reeling. "Wait, wait, wait....what? How?"
"Don't know all the details but it definitley had to do with his...activities. Turns out he was asking underage fans to flash him and his band to get backstage and shit. Someone snitched I guess, thank god. The whole band's been kicked off and banned from Warped tour.
For the first time in forever, you laughed.
You practically cackled. You laughed so much that it felt like you couldn't stop.
"I think we broke her." Liz muttered to Gavin.
"That's fucking amazing." you said, wiping tears from your eyes.
"It is, and its good to hear you laugh again." Gavin said. "Come out with us later, to celebrate."
"I will sometime, but I'm still not quite ready. People are gonna try to ask me questions, I just know it. I'm still not up for it."
Liz and Gavin nodded. "We'll be here when you are."
***
Later that afternoon a few quick knocks sounded from the bus door. You debated getting up to answer it, but human interaction was the last thing you wanted right now. There were a few more small knocks; and you able to ignore the unwanted visitor until, after a moment of silence, something slid under the door. Once you heard their footsteps disappear into the distance, you peeled yourself from your nest on the couch to investigate.
It was a white envelope with your name scrawled across the front. You hesitated for moment, wondering if another piece of your past was about to jump out and bite you. But after steeling yourself you pressed on, your fingers swiftly retrieving the mysterious contents.
You immediately smiled. It was a card with a drawing of you on the front, in a style that was unmistakably Gerard's. You were on stage wailing into the mic, confidently waving your middle finger. You couldn't help but laugh.
Fuck em all. The world needs you out there. If you're feeling up to it, come to our set tonight.
Hope to see you there.
-G
You closed the card and reveled in the much needed buzz of happiness it gave you. Gerard. You thought he would've have been angry with you since you had all but ghosted him these past few weeks, but that clearly wasn't the case. Your legs wanted to run after him, but you as you were covered in dorito dust and sadness, you decided to stay put. You'd make yourself somewhat presentable and then see their performance tonight.
***
You stood just off stage,  just hidden enough in your oversized hoodie to feel comfortable. Right before they began their set, Gerard turned and saw you, eyes widening with a glad surprise as though he hadn't thought you'd actually come. His expression quickly melted into a welcoming smile, and you couldn't help but break out into soft grin of your own.
The band greeted the crowd, already energized and cheering them on. You'd expected them to launch into a song, but instead Gerard began speaking.
"This is a special set tonight guys, because someone very important to me is here. Someone so strong, so kickass that sometimes I wonder if she's even a real fucking human being." He glanced over at you, eyes electric and impassioned, immediately i heat rise to your shrouded cheeks. "Well some asshole tried to hurt her. Tried to make her feel small. But I want her to remember she's too fucking amazing to ever let someone make her feel that way."
You could feel the sting in your eyes as tears began to build.
"And that goes for all of you out there, cause these same assholes have been messing with fans too. So if you ever see shitty ass rock dudes in shitty ass rock bands asking you to show them your tits for backstage passes, I want you to spit right in their fucking faces and yell 'FUCK YOU!”
The crowd went crazy, and you couldn't help but let out a small cheer as well, despite the tears streaming down your face.
"Y/N," Gerard breathed, "This is for you." and with that, the band launched into one of the most passionate sets you'd ever seen. You stayed for it all, loving every moment. As soon as it was finished, Gerard thanked the crowd and made a beeline off stage, directly where you had been stationed all evening.
His eyes were dancing with happiness at the sight of you, pumping with the adrenaline of performing, sweat still dripping from his dark hair. "Hi," he said, pausing for amoment as though he was holding back from so much more, "you came!"
"After the invitation I received? How could I not?"
"So you liked it?"He beamed, his cheeks, pink from exertion, reddened further. "I wanted to do like a mini comic but I ran out of time." As he grinned, fresh crimson gleamed from a small split in his lower lip. What you thought had been makeup turned out to be a genuine injury.
"You're bleeding." you observed softly.
His brows furrowed in confusion, a finger darting to his lip. He dabbed it, smearing blood onto his chin.
"Damn, again? Don't worry, it's nothing."
You didn't hesitate to grab a tissue from your pocket, step forward and gently press it against his cut. He looked down at you with affection, causing you to look away as your heartbeat picked up its pace. Instead you analyzed his face and noticed it was patterned with small bruises.
"Doesn't look like 'nothing' to me. What happened?"
It had been just the two of you speaking intimately just off stage, but crew and media began pouring through and milling about the area. You realized just how close you were standing to Gerard, and pulled your hand back when you noticed people watching. A pew passerbys patted Gerard on the back, offering their compliments of the band's performance. He quickly thanked them, barely turning his attention from you, afraid you might run off. He grabbed your hand, leading you to a quiet area.
"I may have gotten into a fight."
"What!? You don't even leave your bus, how did you get into a fight?"
"I had to. Someone very important to me was being hurt."
You stared at him for a moment, putting the pieces together in your head. Gerard knowing about the video, Alex's sudden departure from the tour...
"Gerard, you didn't."
"I did, and I'd do it again, Y/N. Besides, you can't say he didn't have an ass-kicking coming to him."
You let out a soft laugh, but your vision began to blur as tears welled. A swirl of emotions welled inside of you, tumultuous and much more than you had anticipated feeling tonight. You were touched that Gerard was so concerned about you. Embarrassed that he had to get involved at all. Glad that he did, after all.
At the sight of your tears, he stepped closer. It was him now who tenderly wiped your face, brushing away stray tears with his thumb.
"Jesus, Y/N, I can stand a few punches to the face but I can't stand seeing you cry."
That was all you needed to hear to get oceans pouring from your eyes instead of streams. You embraced Gerard, burying your head into his shoulder. Gerard folded his arms around you in response.
"Y/N I want to tell you...I mean I hope you know...just how important you are to me and how I feel about you. You deserve to be happy."
"You're so nice to me that I almost don't know how to process it." you admitted beneath an awkard, tear-ridden laugh. "Thank you. You need to know you're important to me too. I..I just--" You planted an aggressive kiss on his cheek, unable to express your myriad of emotions in words.
"There, I think that expresses everything."
"Everything?"Gerard asked, brushing a strand oh hair behind your shoulder, "There's a few points I'd like to add."
His hand cupped the side of your face and your lips met, softly at first, a salty mixture of tears and coppery blood. The kiss quickly deepened, caught in your own world, unable to get enough of the taste of each other. That is until Gerard winced and pulled back, blood dripping from his lower lip. His cut had only deepened from your exertions.
"We'll have to postpone this until that's better." you said, handing him another tissue.
"Damn. Kinda regretting that fight now." He laughed.
"Don't regret it. Besides, its not an entirely bad look on you." you teased.
A bashful expression crossed his face as he brushed his hair back from his face.
"I hate to say it but I have a press thing to do in a few minutes with the guys. Meet me in my bus later?" He said, offering another peck on your cheek.
"I'd be crazy not to." you replied, ambushing him with one final hug before he walked off.
You realized something immediately. Despite everything, the heartache, the surprises--you regretted nothing. And as you lifted your fingers to your lips, still buzzing from impact, you knew this had been a tour that changed your life, after all.
Tomorrow, you'd be back onstage, ready to begin again.

dub-ble trouble

Three days into Kazunari's doctor-prescribed silence, Misumi has an idea to let him be heard. After all, that's what triangle buds do for each other, right?
You think your cheap tactics can work on me? Yosh, here we go—eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen hit combo! Hah! Take your stupid DOT debuff and eat it!
“Itarun! Whassup, my man!”
“Hm? Hey, Kazunari.” Itaru's eyes don't leave his handheld console, fingers still dancing as he chains one attack after another mercilessly.
Wait a second.
Kazunari?
Itaru looks up just as the final crit finishes off his enemy, right in time to see the rest of the room also gawking at Kazunari with varying expressions of surprise. Well, almost everyone else in the room. Judging by his regular face-splitting grin, Misumi doesn't seem very concerned, while Kazunari himself is wearing a look of perfect cheerful innocence, looking every bit as if he hadn't been explicitly prohibited from saying even a single word.
A clink from the kitchen. The Director sets down her mug, brows knitting, and uh-oh, Itaru recognises that look on her face, that's the look Sakyo has when he's this close from a ten-minute unskippable scolding cutscene. “Kazunari. Why are you talking.”
Misumi turns to Kazunari, blinking slowly like a confused cat. “Kazu? Is that a question? It sounds like one, but not really…”
Kazunari nods, still wearing a smile bright enough to light a small village.
Misumi pauses. “Oh. Okay!” He frowns for a second, then opens his mouth, and then Itaru swears he hears Kazunari's voice say: “Aww, Director! It's all good! Sumi's doing the talking for me, so I don't have to say anything for real! Dope, right?”
Silence.
“Dude.” Itaru stares at Misumi, then at Kazunari, and back again. “Are you… dubbing him?”
“Yep!” Misumi nods enthusiastically, hair flying in all directions. “I asked Kazu if he wants to try it, and he said yes! I'm going to talk for him!”
“Huh?!” Tsuzuru, standing in the kitchen with a cup noodle in his hand, blurts out. “How do you even know what he wants to say?”
“Of course I know!” Misumi declares, something strikingly like indignation clouding his face. “Kazu and I are buds, so I know what he wants to say! Right, Kazu?”
Kazunari grins, throwing an arm around Misumi's shoulders. “That's right, Sumi!” he—well, not says, not exactly, his mouth and throat didn't move and the voice clearly came from Misumi's direction, but Itaru is forced to admit that was an eerily pitch-perfect imitation.
“Kazunari Miyoshi, CV: Misumi Ikaruga,” he murmurs. “Huh. Fancy that.”
Tsuzuru blinks, sighing deeply. “I feel like I'm watching a puppet show…”
Kazunari reaches a hand towards the playwright, and immediately Misumi jumps into action. “C'mon, Tsuzurun! This way, I can still say my lines when the Summer Troupe is practicing, and I can talk to you guys! It's faster than typing, too!”
“That doesn't make it any less weird!”
“Still,” the Director shrugs, “that's a good point. You can keep on LIME-ing things to us for daily conversation, but practice has been kind of tricky…”
Tsuzuru jolts. “Director—! You don't seriously think—”
“If it's for practice, why not? It'll help the others get the feel for their timing, and you have to admit, doing this sort of double-act takes a lot of skill and concentration. It's basically an extended role study.” She turns to the two, eyeing them pensively. “And like they said, it sure is faster than typing.”
“So you prefer dubs to subs, huh?” Itaru grins.
The Director shrugs. “We can try it out for today's practice,” she decides, completely ignoring his comment. Oof. “But no promises after that.”
Kazunari pumps his fist, triumphant, and Misumi mirrors him with an excited little hop. “Yay! Thank you, Director!” he shouts in his own voice, before following it with an in-character (?) “Thanks, Director! That's so poggers of you!”
“Really, you guys?” Itaru throws his hands in the air, letting his console drop onto his lap. “Isn't anyone gonna mention how scarily spot-on his Kazunari impression is? Seriously, you should consider becoming a voice actor.”
“Huh?” Misumi's eyes are round as melons. “But I already act with my voice!”
Kazunari elbows him lightly, and, oh, here we go, he wants to say something Misumi doesn't know about, doesn't he? On one hand, Itaru could step in now and explain how voice acting is a different profession from normal acting, but on the other hand, he could also wait this out and see how the dubber and dub-ee resolve this.
He expected pantomime, at least a few gestures, maybe even the return of of Kazunari's phone to type out whatever it is he intends to say. What he did not expect was a few seconds of eye contact, after which Misumi simply turns around and says, with perfect confidence is his telepathic abilities: “Whoa, is that really a thing? Can stage actors just switch and become voice actors like that?”
Tsuzuru slams his palms against the kitchen counter. “How?” he demands. “How do you do that? Miyoshi, was that even really what you wanted to say?”
Kazunari nods, and so does Misumi. Twin pairs of nettled glares pin Tsuzuru in perfect synchronisation. “We're triangle buds,” Misumi repeats, with every air of an older sibling who has to explain the same thing over and over again and is running low on patience, “so I just have to use my triangle senses! It's easy!"
Tsuzuru stares at them, confusion and frustration flashing into desperation across his eyes. Finally, he sighs, shakes his head, and takes another bite of his cup noodles.
“But, really. Can you switch from stage acting to voice acting that easily?” the Director echoes thoughtfully. “It's one thing to convey your emotions to an auditorium, but when your voice is all you have to go by… Without gestures, body language, or even eye contact, that's a whole different kind of practice, isn't it?”
“Funny, that's exactly what Azami said the other day,” Itaru grins. “But it does happen now and then. Sometimes they still do stage acting and only voice one or two characters, but some people change careers entirely. Like—
“I'm home!”
The door swings open, and in walks Tenma, eyes immediately seeking out the clock on the living room wall. When he notices the group congregating in the kitchen, he juts his chin and pops off a sincere, if somewhat exhausted, grin in lieu of greeting.
“Welcome back,” Tsuzuru says.
“Tenten! Welcome back, piko!”
“Hey, Tenma. How was the photoshoot? Did you have fun?” The Director smiles, and Itaru mentally adds it to his ever-increasing hypothetical list of Reasons Why the Director is Everyone's Mum.
“It was fine,” Tenma shrugs. “Regular stuff, just—wait a second, what was that?”
“I asked if you had fun.”
“No, not you, Director! Before that!”
“Welcome home, piko!”
And Tenma all but jumps in his own skin. “Hey! Aren't you not supposed to talk yet? You said it's going to take a couple weeks at least! It's only been three days!”
“Oh, here we go again,” Itaru rolls his eyes theatrically. “Dialogue re-triggered.”
“Kazunari didn't say that. Misumi did,” Tsuzuru rattles off, numbering the points off his fingers. “He's going to voice Kazunari for today's practice. The future is still undecided.”
“The future always is,” Itaru notes mildly, pretending not to see the dirty look Tsuzuru shoots him.
“It's all right, Tenma!” Misumi assures him, before adding in full-on Kazunari mode: “The Director gave us permission, so we'll be in your care, yeah?”
“Sheesh… Seriously, you guys?”
“It's not a bad idea,” the Director says. “Or do you prefer yesterday's drawing boards?”
“No! Not the drawing boards!” Tenma's eyes widen in panic. “That's impossible!”
“Aw, but I think your pictures were nice!” Misumi puts in, coated in pure hundred-proof sincerity. “I liked the beef with the face and wiggly bits!”
“The what?”
“Nothing! It's nothing!” Tenma shakes his hand in the air, as if physically swatting Itaru's question aside. “L–look, it's almost time for practice, right? I had to hurry back from the photoshoot for practice, you know! Don't just stand around like that, let's go!”
“You heard your leader,” the Director chides, though the twinkle in her eyes completely undermines any seriousness in her words. “You boys go ahead, I'll catch up with you after I finish my coffee.”
“Okay!” says Misumi.
Kazunari snaps a mock salute, complete with a wink.
“Yes, Ma'am! C'mon, Sumi, let's go, piko!”
And with that… dialogue? Monologue? Something in between?—the dubbing duo bustle out of the kitchen like matched whirlwinds, curtains fluttering and footsteps echoing in their wake, while Tenma trails behind with a considerable gap in energy levels.
“I'm never gonna get used to that,” Tsuzuru mutters as he watches them leave.
“Eh, could be worse,” Itaru offers philosophically.
“Like how?”
“Could be Citron doing the dubbing.”
Tsuzuru shudders, pain shooting across his face like a thunderbolt. He finishes the last of his noodles and drops the emptied cup into the rubbish bin. “Now, that's just…”
The Director shakes her head, half a smile tugging at her lips. “Relax, they'll probably get bored of it sooner than later. Just let them have their fun for now. Besides, it can't possibly get any weirder than this, right?”

Blend In - Adler x Fem!Bell
A/N: have an Adler x Bell!Reader from my stash of Adler x oc content! Enjoy this thing I wrote, adapted for everyone to enjoy! Things in italics are in German!
T/W: fluff and not paying attention to the op at hand!
Tumblr media
---
"We need to keep a low profile. Which means, Bell, none of those bright ideas of yours."
"I'll put them away for later," You promised with a nod, coming to a stop beside Adler.
He retrieved a pack of cigarettes, offering it your way first so that you could take one. Then, he took one for himself, placing it between half scarred lips. As he grabbed his lighter and lit it, his eyes scanned the crowd for your target.
He happened a glance to you, who had an unlit cigarette, and promptly ignited his lighter, holding it your way. He... didn't mean to do that.
"Sorry," He apologised, to which you merely offered a small smile.
Upon spotting your target a few seconds after, Adler subtly gestured ahead. You did your best to nonchalantly look over, confirming the ID.
"We have a positive ID. We're going to pursue," He spoke lowly so that the agency could hear, gesturing for you to follow as he began to walk ahead.
It seemed like a straightforward approach, thankfully, and the crowd wasn't too much of a - -
"You've got to be shitting me," You came to a stop, tapping Adler on the arm before gesturing, "They're heading into the carnival."
"We have to go after them before they get out of sight," Adler informed as if you wouldn't know that. "We need to blend in."
You took a long drag of your cigarette, perking up as his elbow gently nudged you; you looked to his arm, which was extended your way. You blinked.
"Are you sure, sir?"
"C'mon, before they get too far."
You took that as the go ahead, slipping your arm through his to link you two together. You dropped your cigarette to stomp it out, placing a hand on his bicep and walking side by side into the crowd and music. Bathed in the warm glows of the lights, your breaths were suddenly evident in the German air. It was getting cold.
The carnival was large in size, meaning there was a lot of ground to possibly cover whilst following your guy. Yet, despite this, you were looking around at the night sky and various stalls, both food and games.
"Bell?"
"Yes?"
"Something got you distracted?"
"The carnival," You revealed, voice somewhat distant. Adler found himself admiring the way you eyed the food stalls and the various games, and how you looked at the prizes. "It's gorgeous. I wasn't expecting this."
"Stay focused," He ordered lightly, following your gaze to a donut stand, "We're close."
"Sorry, you're right."
As you walked, however, you just couldn't help it. Your head lulled to the side, resting against the chilled leather of his red leather jacket. He assumed it was to further allow you to blend in, but a part of him hoped it was a conscious thing. His heart beat ever so slightly faster.
You came to a stop at a stall due to the fact that your target also came to a stop at a stall a little further up. It was a donut stall, the kind that you had been eyeing before, and Adler, after a moment, gestured the owner over.
"One of your glazed, please."
"Just a moment, please," the owner requested happily, freshly dunking one before wrapping it and offering it his way.
"For you, my darling," He directed to you, his companion, catching you completely off guard.
Reaching out, you took the donut, "Thank you."
Glancing to where your target was, and noticing he was beginning to walk, Adler started following him again.
"Thank you for this. I'm quite hungry, and it helps us blend in. Bonus on all accords."
"Don't mention it. Consider it payment for when we last went drinking."
"A single donut?" You playfully scoffed, taking a bite from it, "You can do better than that."
Leaving it at that, the next hour or so went about the same. You would periodically stop, Adler would, depending on the stall, buy something small for you, and it'd repeat. He'd pull you close every now and then, and your conversation grew slightly from the mission.
He found himself having a good time, more so than if he was solely focused on the mission at hand. He found himself placing his hand over yours on his bicep. He found himself admiring you from behind his sunglasses when he could.
You somewhat perked up when you eventually crossed the games stall you had first set your eyes on; a game where you shoot targets, and one of the prizes was a (f/c) duck. An adorable (f/c) duck. A (f/c) duck you were fantasising about adding to your collection and cuddling.
"Bell?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you want one of the animals?"
"Oh-? I didn't know I was staring. Hah, sorry."
"Do you want one of the animals?" Adler repeated, a little more firm.
"..yes. But, we have a job to do."
"He's fine for a second. C'mon."
Taken off guard, you glanced to your target, who was busy at a stall, before looking to the oncoming game.
"I'll take ten bullets, please."
"There you go," The stall owner placed down a small tub, "Good luck. I'm sure he'll win you something, ma'am."
Sliding his arm from yours, Adler loaded the gun and took aim; by the time he was on the last bullet, all but one target was down. He loaded, paused, and then looked to you.
"You try to hit the last one."
You hesitantly reached up, grabbing the barrel, "I don't want to be the one to miss."
"I'll help you," Spoken after a quick glance over his shoulder, and he moved to stand behind you.
He placed his hands over yours, helping you line up the shot. At this range, he could smell the familiar shampoo in your hair and the perfume you wore. He savoured the way you leaned into his chest, clearly expecting the kickback of a normal weapon, and he listened to your breathing.
You, on the other hand, could feel his breath fanning your neck and the top of your head. You could feel his heartbeat, and the smooth yet rough feeling of his hands was a welcome experience. You wanted to stay like this for a while. You wished you could.
You pulled the trigger, and the target was shot down.
"Congratulations!" The stall owner beamed, to which you half turned to gaze up to Adler and grin his way. "Which would you like?"
"The duck, please! Thank you very much," Spoken as you pointed out and then accepted the prize, a shine to your eyes that Adler found endearing. You turned to completely face him, still encased in his arms, and beamed, "Thank you, Adler. This will make a fine addition to my collection."
For the first time in a very, very long time (real or fake), you witnessed a smile grace Adler's half scarred lips. It caused his eyes beneath his glasses to crease, and your heart skipped a beat.
After what felt like an eternity, Adler closed the height gap and captured your lips in a kiss. Despite the initial shock, you eagerly returned it, a hand placing itself onto the back of his neck to pull him a little closer. To make sure it was real. That it wasn't another dream.
It was a pleasant exchange, disrupted only for air. Adler's eyes fluttered open, gazing upon you with a shroud of lust and satisfaction.
"Adler," You whispered, barely audible above the music, and he ran a hand over your hair.
"We can talk about that later," He promised, offering his arm for you to take again, which you happily did.
"That... that covers when we last went drinking."

Hi fren! How about that scenario we were discussing earlier, where Seb comforts Mey while they’re grocery shopping because the situation is making her anxious? 💖🖤
It should've been the same as every other time she'd gone shopping. Walked around. Got what she needed...
But suddenly she was noticing everyone's faces, noticing glances at her! She didn't even know why it was suddenly more bothersome... It wasn't because Sebastian was with her, they'd been together over a year and had gone out to many public places.. but..
"Hmm, it looks like they have good options for stuffed ravioli.. Both dry and frozen kind. Would you like something like this for dinner tonight, dear?"
Sebastian's voice seemed muffled and far away, even if they were right next to each other.
"..Mey?"
Her eyes kept looking away, at everyone else.
"Did you hear me?"
Especially when someone like this lady with a little girl in the cart and a little boy close by her side came near as they were trying to get through.
Sebastian had to put an arm around Mey Rin, and gently push her out of the way eventually, smiling his naturally social smile to the stranger in apology.
When the woman was long gone, Mey Rin's companion was bending to look into her face.
"Are you in there?? Mey??"
"Whu--!" The small girl jolted and her mind caught up in time before her instinct to scream kicked in. Only a small eep coming out before she slapped a hand over her mouth, and yanked herself away from her boyfriend, stumbling back.
The bright lights of the store danced in her vision even if she was now looking at the floor.
Her feet.
She could feel Sebastian's hand much more firmly as he put it on her back, started rubbing up and down, and up to the nape of her neck, letting the coolness of his palm reach her own bare skin.
"Hey hey, I'm sorry!" He was hissing frantically. "It's alright, dear. Shh. Are you okay??"
She whimpered, shut her eyes and shook her head.
"N.. No.. I dunno why, no I don't... Just- M-My anxiety's through the roof right now, it is."
"Ohh boy," Sebastian hissed out. "Well, we managed this far, right? It's okay.. We can head out now if you want-"
"B-But we're not entirely done! I'm sorry, I'm--"
"Shhhh it's alright, listen.. If you want to try keep going and finish up, we'll keep going. I'm right here."
Mey wanted to sob, but she smiled a trembling smile instead, trying so hard to force herself to focus!
She stared into her sweet Sebastian's face. His reassuring smile and pretty eyes. He patted her back a little more, then waved over at the frozen food behind the doors.
"Did you hear what I was saying about the ravioli?"
For some reason, Mey Rin giggled at this. It was likely out of hysterics and stress but Sebastian suddenly asking about if she'd heard him talking about ravioli before made her crack up.
"N-No.. I know you were talkin', but I- I blanked out a bit there."
The man beside her was smirking a bit, looking ready to laugh too, but he opened his mouth, looking ready to just repeat whatever he'd said...
Before he suddenly went "Psh," and dramatically leaned against the freezer door.
"Boy, have I got a story to tell you about these things," He uttered, and made a thumbing gesture back at the product behind him.
"They're not to be trifled with!"
Mey blinked a second longer..
Was.. was he.. d-doing a bit now??
The girl burst out laughing, high and bubbly and a bit unhinged to her own ears.
And seconds later she saw Sebastian reddening and laughing too, covering his eyes.
Yeah. Sebastian had definitely been trying to do a bit.
And the awkwardness and rarity of it was what made it actually hilarious.
Sebastian never did over-the-top goofy things, not like their friends Bard or Ronald..
Not that he was completely always a serious sort, but his humor was usually much dryer and sarcastic and sassy and--
"You dork, you!" Mey finally managed and waved a hand at him as if to shoo him away.
"What the hell were you really sayin', c'mon!!"
"Okay, okay, I tried... Thank goodness no one we know was around to see that." He muttered much quieter to himself.
Now that's the Sebastian I know. Mey thought, and grinned as she finally heard what her love had really been asking.
"I was asking if you wanted something like this stuffed ravioli for supper or the other, unfrozen kind we saw earlier?"
"OH," Mey gasped, then hummed and frowned a little..
"Actually.. I.. was hoping to order out pizza tonight...?" She hesitantly told him, smiling bashfully.
Sebastian groaned... but after rubbing his head he nodded.
"Alright, okay.. It does look like it'd be that kind of night, doesn't it," He uttered, almost looking a tiny bit sad he wouldn't get to cook..
Especially when he wanted to treat his anxious Mey!
Mey picked up on this.. and suddenly threw the door open and grabbed a frozen bag of stuffed ravioli.
"But- well- maybe tomorrow you can cook it, okay?! I'm curious now since you've never cooked that before for me!!"
Sebastian's eyebrows lifted.. and he smiled some more.
"Well.. alright. We'll make it a fancy home dinner night, maybe even get some wine?"
"Yeah!!" Mey grinned, beaming up at him.
And inside the man beside her sighed with relief.
In most cases when Mey had anxiety attacks they were at home.. Or he wasn't with her in person when she had one in public.
He wanted to do his best to help her despite getting scared himself by seeing it first hand.
Whatever had happened to Mey Rin growing up to cause her to be like this..
Sebastian hoped to prevent her from ever feeling that again.
He made sure to take her hand, touch her shoulders, her back, to make sure the rest of the time in the store she knew he was right there.
He didn't dare try anything too goofy again.. But he did his best with what he could do.
She wasn't alone this time.
Sebastian'd make sure of that.

To The Top || A Marauders Band AU
Chapter Three: This Side of Paradise
Read here on AO3
How did James and Lily go from disliking each other to falling in love?
They spent time together didn't they? That's how most people do it.
In past interviews, James had described his relationship with Lily Evans as "love at first sight."
That's because it was. Just because it started with love doesn't mean that they didn't have their problems in the middle.
Were any of the other boys in relationships at the time?
No, unless you count Frank who at the point was dating Alice, but they hadn't made it official at this point.
And according to Emmeline Vance herself, she was involved in the band during the early days. How did she meet them?
She lived with them. At Maxwells house. She shared a room with James.
//
Emmeline hated sharing a room with James.
He was messy, he was loud, and above all, he was a complete inconvenience whenever she wanted to bring someone home with her.
She always texted him, a quick and simple rabbit emoji, a quick way of saying "I'm about to bring someone into our room who I intend to have sex with. Please clear all of your shit to the side and go sleep on Sirius and Franks floor please."
But did he ever do it? Nope. Never. Not once.
One time he left a framed photo of himself with rose petals and candles on her bed.
Another time he had Sirius and Frank play the loudest least sexy music ever from their room once they had heard Emmeline and their date come in.
Another time James had replaced all of the photos of her friends and family with photos of the Backyardigans with James photoshopped into them. (They don't even know where he found the time for that one.)
And this time James hadn't even bothered to check his phone.
"Jesus Christ James what are you doing?" she asked the lump of blankets on his bed. She turned to her companion, a tall blonde girl with blue eyes, "Im so sorry, I told him to leave."
Her date just shrugged and started to gently kiss Emmeline's neck, "I don't mind so long as he's quiet," she said.
"Please don't," James squeaked from his bed.
Emmeline rolled her eyes. "Could you give us a second please?" She asked the blonde.
After the girl (she couldn't remember her name) left the room, Emmeline stormed over to where James lay. She pulled the sheets from on top of him and folded their arms. "What are you playing at?" she hissed.
James didn't answer, just mumbled a bit and waved his arms about.
"Are you drunk?"
"Nurr."
"Are you sure?"
"Nurr."
Emmeline uncrossed her arms, "What's this about, James?" she asked, their voice much softer than it was before.
James sat up, "It's nothing it's just... nothing. I'm sorry I didn't see your text I'll leave." He began to get out of bed.
"Hang on a sec. Wait up," Emmeline held their hand out and James sat back. "What's going on?"
James sighed and opened his mouth to answer when Sirius and Frank entered the room. "Why is there a lesbian in the hallway?" Sirius asked.
Emmeline gave him a look, "Nevermind about her, why is Potter depressed."
"I'm not depressed."
Emmeline's look was pleading.
Sirius sighed, "You remember that girl that he met at Christmas?"
"Dark red hair that reached her chest, emerald green eyes, plus size, has a smile that glows, exactly a head smaller, three piercings, a tattoo of a wolf behind her ear and wearing white Doc Martens?" She nodded. "Yeah, I remember."
"She was at the gig we played today and she rejected him."
"Well bloody hell is that all?" Emmeline sounded offended. "I thought someone had died or something but you're cockblocking me just because you couldn't get laid yourself. That is low Potter."
Emmeline could hear Frank trying to hold in his laughter and James looked up at her with a shocked expression.
"I didn't see your text!"
"I sent you fifteen rabbits! Fifteen! If that wasn't enough indication that the girl I was bringing back was important-"
"I DIDN'T SEE IT!"
"YOU KNOW BETTER THAN TO NOT CHECK!"
"Alright! Alright, inside voices both of you," Sirius got between them. He turned to Emmeline. "Emme. What's so important about the lesbian in the hallway?"
They shrugged, "First fuck of the year ain't it?"
Behind her, Frank started laughing. In front of her, James looked like he was about to kill them.
"All of this for some random lesbian you found off the street?" Frank wheezed.
Emmeline's face scrunched up in disgust. "Alright let's get some things straight," she said, wagging her figure at each of them. "Firstly, it's the first day of the year I need a good start. Secondly, she's bisexual, and thirdly I didn't find her on the street she was at a house party that I just came from."
"So all of this for some random bisexual that you found at a house party?"
"To start this new fucking year off right! Can't forget about that!" Sirius chimed in.
Emmeline had never wanted to hit them more.
"Are we done?" James asked. "I'm a bit over talking about this."
"Oh, I'm sorry your highness are we bothering your coming of age moment?" Frank asked sarcastically.
"Yes, you are ruining my coming of age moment." James hissed. "Now if you don't mind, I prefer to be depressed alone, not with you lot and a bisexual from a house party!" He pulled his covers back over himself.
"Aww come on mate don't be like that. So you don't reject for once in your life it happens to everyone. Doesn't it guys?" Frank said turning to Sirius and Emmeline for support.
"Yeah, the amount of times I've flirted with straight dudes is embarrassing," Sirius said the same time Emmeline said, "Ah not really I'm a catch."
This got a smile from James.
"Ay, there's a smile!" Frank beamed. "C'mon, well go to the pub. Turn that frown upside down."
James' smiled grew and he nodded, finally getting out of bed. Emmeline, Sirius, and Frank cheered.
"Wait!" Emmeline said, "What are we going to do about the bisexual?" she whispered as if she could hear them from the other side of the door.
Frank shrugged, "Bring her along!"
They cheered again and made their way out of the bedroom door. Only to find that the girl Emmeline had brought back was no longer there.
"Ahh fuck her," James said when he noticed Emmelines disappointed face. "She would've brought the mood down anyway."
The Leaky Caldron was the quietest any of them had seen it. It was past 1 am by the time they had gotten there and most of their company were about to do their last rounds.
Sirius preferred it like this. It was easier to get a drink, it was easier to hear your friends and it was easier to actually move around. He was never fond of really crowded places like that.
Emmeline had gotten them all the first round and James got the second, by the time they were on the third Sirius noticed three guys walk into the pub. He immediately recognized one of them as Lily Evans' friend.
He opened his mouth to tell the others but Frank jumped in before he could. "Hey, those guys were at the gig today," he said subtly pointing at them.
James went pale, "Yeah, and one of them was talking to Lily when I went up to talk to her," he muttered.
Emmeline hit Frank's arm, "See what you've done," she hissed. "Don't worry Potter, Ill go throw my drink over him. Now, which one was it?"
"Emme, we've talked about this you cant just throw drinks over anyone you like," Sirius told her and slapped her hand away from her drink.
Sirius expected them to make some snarky come back, but instead they just stared at him and raised an eyebrow. Sirius was about to ask her what the hell she was doing when she threw her arms up and gave him a disapproving look.
"Really Sirius?" she asked. "Out of all the people for you to fancy it has to be one of them?"
Sirius went bright red, "I haven't got a clue what you're talking about," he lied.
"Don't lie to me."
"Well, I can't help it can I?"
"Oh my god, Sirius. Right, which one is it? I'll throw my drink over him instead."
Sirius nearly jumped out of his seat, "Why do you have to throw your drink on anyone?"
Emmeline gave him a judging look. "You can't date the friend of the girl who broke your poor mate's heart, Sirius."
"Yeah Sirius," Frank said in a mocking tone. "You can't break girl code."
Emmeline side-eyed him but ignored his comment. "Let's say you two date, and you falling love and get married and James is your best man while whats her name-"
"Lily Evans"
"- Lily Evans, is his best woman. And those two have to help plan your wedding, but they can't agree on anything because James holds grudges and your wedding is ruined. Do you really want your wedding to be ruined?"
James raised his eyebrows. "That's why this is bad? Not because of my feelings or anything?"
"I was getting to that."
"No, you weren't!"
"It was implied!"
Sirius downed what remained of his drink. "Alright, alright," he intervened before they could get any more annoying. "I just won't date him, you don't have to throw your drink over someone every time we go drinking Emme. We'll just continue our lives and never see each other ever again." Although if Sirius was being honest, he didn't really like the idea of never seeing his mystery boy again. "It's not like we talked or he took any notice of me anyway."
"Emme, get your drink ready," Frank said suddenly. "One of thems coming over here."
Sirius" head shot into the direction where Frank was looking. Unfortunately, it was not the scarred boy but rather the oldest of the group. Sirius wouldn't be surprised if he was the other three boys' father, as it was obvious that they were all related somehow.
Meanwhile, James had to steal Emmeline's drink before she could get her hands on it.
The man noticed that he was being watched and gave the group a small smile. "So sorry to bother you," he said as he got closer, "But were you by any chance the band that played at the fate earlier today?"
Nobody answered for a moment, each one of them was waiting for someone else to take one for the team and talk, in the end, it was Frank.
"Yeah, we were," he told him. "Were you there?"
The man shook his head but smiled. "No, but my sons were," he said pointing to the table where the three boys sat. Upon realizing that the group was now looking at them, each boy quickly turned their head to make it look like they weren't watching. All of them seemed embarrassed. The man laughed.
"They seem to have this problem when they see someone they know and their first reaction is to hide rather than say hello."
The four of them laughed awkwardly as if they weren't the exact same.
"Anyways, I just wanted to come here to prove a point," he said with a friendly smile. He turned to leave but backtracked on himself and pulled a card from his pocket. "Actually, if you guys ever need somewhere to play there is this club that likes to play small bands. Give them a call if you like."
Emmeline immediately reached for the card and took it from him, before any of the boys could tell him that "they're not a small band."
"Thank you, much appreciated," she said with a smile and the four of them watched as the man walked away.
Frank took the card from Emmeline and read it over a few times, then he and Emmeline began talking about if it would be worth giving them a call. James stayed silent and finished his drink, only giving his thoughts every now and then. Sirius on the other hand hadn't taken his eyes off the scarred boy, who was now interrogating his dad, along with his brothers. For a split second his eyes shifted and locked with Sirius'. He gave him a smile - that one that you give to random people on the street - and looked down at his drink.
Shit, Sirius thought. There is no way that I'm never seeing him again.

There was 'too strange to be true,' and then there was 'too strange not to be true.'
The former was usually easy enough to determine, at least for a woman of Sagani's age and experience: she'd be a piss-poor mother, hunter, and leader were she to give credence to every tall tale a guilty child or unscrupulous trader told her. But sometimes a situation was just unusual enough, skirted that line between plausibility and absurdity just so, that Sagani found herself well and truly baffled. Like now, with these kith.
They'd seemed like a regular bunch of adventurers at first glance, although a motley one. They'd been chatting amiably amongst themselves when they'd noticed her, and if she hadn't heard them talking about a carved bear-- and if Itumaak hadn't nudged her hip and whined, pointed eagerly at the strangers with his whole body-- she probably would have ignored them entirely and let them disappear down the road, over the horizon.
Leaving her alone. Again. And still at square one.
So she had cast her line, and had been completely knocked off guard at the response she'd gotten. She had been expecting the folk man-- the big blonde with the country drawl-- to do what Dyrwoodan men tended to do, and bloviate at her until he lost interest and herded his mismatched crew off to their next thrilling adventure. But instead, he had crouched down to regard Itumaak with childlike delight while, to Sagani's mild surprise, the redheaded orlan had stepped forward and taken the conversational lead.
What with all the bigotry against orlans she'd heard tell of since arriving in the Dyrwood (and the handful of incidents she'd witnessed firsthand), Sagani hadn't anticipated the leader of this little pack to be one-- and a woman at that, although her foreign accent cleared up some of the confusion. Listening to her bold, clear, confident voice, Sagani had been unable to stop herself cocking an eyebrow and cracking a bemused smile at this strange little encounter.
And it had only gotten stranger the more they'd conversed. While answering the orlan's questions about her hunt for Persoq, Sagani had noticed the giant aumaua behind her scribbling frantically on a sheet of vellum, his excited eyes darting between the orlan and herself. She'd also noticed the folk man ignoring the conversation entirely to focus on trying to get Itumaak's attention, as well as the elf standing alone in the back who may or may not have been talking to himself behind his grimoire. And here she'd been, expecting more slack-jawed farmhands. Gods, these people were odd.
Yes, Sagani, they're a bunch of freaks. Not like you, a middle-aged female long game hunter from an isolated village on an island in the arctic who's searching for a dead man with her snowy white fox.
Maybe that was what made her put Persoq's bear in the other woman's hands, that guilt at thinking her and her companions odd when Sagani had such an unusual story herself. And at least these people were actually friendly, for once. She still hadn't decided whether they were necessarily trustworthy or not, but she could fairly confidently tell that they weren't about to pull some kind of shit. Body language was too relaxed, atmosphere was all wrong for violence or trickery. Hel, this girl wasn't even asking for coin. So why not let her have a go at it?
And now, watching the little woman sway on her feet and stare like a sleepwalker, Sagani was starting to wonder if she had made the right decision after all. She wasn't normally an easy woman to rattle, but something about the orlan had changed, something behind her eyes, and it lent her an eerie, uncanny quality that made Sagani's skin crawl.
"What's going on?" she blurted, hairs on the back of her neck standing on end. "What's happening to her?" Itumaak finally snapped at the annoying folk man, curling his lip and snarling, and the big blonde backed off as the fox leaned into Sagani's side.
"Oh, uh, yeah," the man stammered, "prolly shoulda warned you about that. She gets like that when she's doin' her Watchin', or whatch' call it." He dug his thumb into an itchy spot between his eyebrows, side-eyed Itumaak. "...Your fox bite?"
"Yes," she muttered, eyes still fixed on the orlan woman, on Persoq's bear.
"Can I pet him anyway?" The man's blue-green eyes shone with sincerity.
"Worry not, madam! She'll come out of it soon enough," the aumaua interjected, tucking his writing tools away in his satchel before peering intently at the adra carving in the orlan's hands. "At least, she seemed to come out of it rather quickly when she spoke to the spirits in Caed Nua. This might be an entirely different experience, as far as I'm aware." He chuckled and gently waved his gigantic hand in the redhead's face, and she stared through him, completely unresponsive. "Fascinating, isn't it? I wonder what she sees..."
Sagani glanced up at the huge man, careful to keep the orlan and Persoq's bear in her peripheral vision. "You're telling me you all came from Caed Nua? That old keep west of here? I was told that place was nothing but a wraith-infested death trap." She felt her heart drop, just a little. Yeah. I thought these folks might be too strange to be true.
"Sure's Hel was," the folk man grumbled, his tone suggesting he knew from experience. "'Course, that was before we showed up."
The little huntress narrowed her eyes at him. "Care to explain exactly what you mean by that?"
The shy elf finally spoke up, cringing with embarrassment as he drew near. "Er-- begging your pardon, madam; what my cohort meant to say is-- Well, come to think of it, actually, perhaps introductions are in order--"
"Cliffs," the orlan gasped, and Sagani's focus was back on her in an instant, Itumaak yipping softly with surprise. To her credit, everyone else jumped too, startled by the little woman's sudden return to consciousness. But still, she couldn't afford surprises like that, especially when it came to Persoq's bear. Never again. Beast's Hooves, woman, never take your eye off your quarry...!
The orlan shook her head and blinked, finally seeming to come out of her reverie. "By the sea, I think," she continued, trembling slightly as she placed the adra carving back into Sagani's waiting hands. "Pretty high up, but that salty spray still reached my face."
Sagani's gaze flicked rapidly between the green-purple lump in her hands and the woman in front of her. "...What? I-- what just-- what did you do?" That was nothing like the last "Watcher" she'd dealt with, and she knew he was full of shit. But it didn't necessarily mean this girl was on the level, either...
"I... watched, I suppose. Well, not just watching. It was more like... being inside someone else's head, feeling what they feel as well as seeing what they see." The redhead rubbed her eyes, smiled wearily at Sagani. Reminded her of her oldest child after a prematurely terminated nap. "In this case, I was inside Persoq's head, or his reincarnation's, anyway. Damned disorienting, I have to admit. And it tends to make me look a bit foolish at times."
"Right. I'll bet." Too strange not to be true? ...Maybe. Maybe not. The ranger stuffed the carving back into her pack, not quite ready to admit defeat yet. "Y'know, after my story about that charlatan Watcher, I'd have thought a 'real' Watcher like you would have more to say about the experience than that."
"A woman after my own heart!" The aumaua butted in again, looming up behind the little orlan like a sunrise. "I'd love to hear more myself. She only ever gives us the barest hints of what she sees, what the spirits tell her! ...Although," he added sheepishly, "I understand sometimes the scenes that play out before her are... not exactly easy to talk about."
"Yes, Caed Nua and the Endless Paths are not exactly places with happy pasts, Kana," the elf reminded the aumaua gently but firmly before turning to Sagani. "I know we must seem... an unusual bunch, madam, and you've no reason whatsoever to trust us. And we were each just as skeptical when we met her, and just as shocked as you the first time we saw her peer into the aether. But she has proven multiple times over to each of us that, ultimately, she is telling the truth: she is a Watcher."
Gods, they're persistent! If they're liars, at least it seems they've got their story straight. "You realize I don't even have any coin to offer you for... for whatever that was." She knew how dangerous this could turn out to be, but she could feel herself wanting to believe them, wanting her long, difficult search to finally yield a solid lead...
The little woman shrugged, unconcerned, and turned to the road in front of Sagani, shouldering her pack once more. "Didn't ask for any coin," she stated simply. "Although, if you've a tent, we'd trade you for it. Someone ruined ours."
The folk man tore his attention away from Itumaak's fluffy, rapidly swishing tail to regard the orlan with indignation. "Hey, c'mon, Axa, I said it was an accident--"
And as if on cue, he was silenced by a crack of thunder. All of a sudden, the humidity and the smell of ozone was overpowering, and the gathered kith all turned their faces to the heavens.
The first drop of rain hit Itumaak on the nose, and he sneezed.
"Welp," the big blonde sighed, "Sun was settin' anyway. Guess I'll get started on a lean-to for us." He trudged off into the nearby brush, and as the others followed behind him, the aumaua and the elf gave Sagani polite, awkward little smiles. The orlan woman-- Axa, as Sagani knew her now-- watched them go and then turned to her, raised her eyebrows in an unspoken question. The rain was starting to come down in earnest now.
Oh, come on already--
"I... There's... a little rock outcropping about 15 minutes' hike southeast. Should fit five and a fire 'neath it." Sagani reached down and scratched Itumaak behind the ears, and he pressed himself into her strong, steady hand. His reassurance comforted her, and she smiled. "And a fox, of course."
Axa smiled back at the dwarf, her cohorts turning back toward the two women. "Well! I never thought I'd say that that sounds more appealing than my current projected sleeping arrangements, but here we are. You'll lead the way, I trust?"
Just remember, Sagani: if you wake up tomorrow and Persoq's bear is gone again, you'll have no one to blame but yourself.
The huntress shook her head and chuckled. "Sure will. Follow me."

Jungkook straightens his back. The resolve on his face settles into a firm decision. He takes a long swing from his soju, emptying the bottle, and turns towards you.
"How do you suggest I go about doing that, then?"
"How do you mean?"
"You're a girl. How would you want someone to tell you that they were into you?"
"What, do you think every girl likes being asked out the same way?" At his dumbfounded expression, you scoff. "Aish, I don't speak 'girl,' Bunny. You know her. What would she like?" You tap the side of his head with your knuckles. "Use that brain."
Jungkook rolls his eyes, shoves your hand away, and replies, "Just humor me, would you? Give me some ideas."
Unable to ignore his insistence, you huff out a breath and tilt your head slightly. "Well...if you're scared of face-to-face, maybe try over the phone?"
"Like a text?"
You shake your head vigorously, an unintended groan slipping out. "What? No, that's the worst idea ever! I was thinking more phone call confession. Those are cute."
A tiny smirk tugs on the corners of Jungkook's lips, and the sides of his eyes crinkle as you speak. "That's a kdrama cliche if I've ever heard one."
You grab one of the throw pillows and hold it up, eyes narrowing at your target. "Say it again, I dare you."
The brunet raises his hands in defense. "I didn't say it wasn't cute!"
"You wanted ideas, you get ideas." Lowering the throw pillow, you hold it to your chest and turn your eyes from his. "Don't take my word for it. Would she like that?"
"Maybe...it's worth a try, honestly."
"That's really not a great way to answer that, Kookie." Turning around so that you're sitting cross-legged in front of your companion, you place the pillow in your lap and gesture towards him. "So, if you wanna call her, now you need to decide when."
His eyes widen a bit, and a pink tint covers his cheeks. "After the Lunar New Year, maybe?"
"Why not now? Everyone's in a celebratory mood. Everyone's happy. This is the best damn time, and besides, you got me—your loyal wing-woman—here to help you."
Jungkook rolls his eyes. "You're not seriously suggesting—"
"—Call her," you interrupt. "Right now."
The brunet's expression shifts from surprise to horror. "We don't even have service thanks to the storm!"
Pulling your cell from your pocket, you show your companion the three bars with a smug smile. "Storm's passed, Bunny. Call her."
"No way."
You grip the edge of the pillow and lean forward "Why not! I helped you ask out that girl in tenth grade. You were a chicken then, like, even more so than now. I can guide you through this."
Your best friend shakes his head as he pulls himself to his feet. Shuffling away from you, back towards the makeshift kitchen in front of the bakery, he replies, "Not gonna happen, [Y/n]."
You pick yourself off the ground and follow him. "Seriously, though. Why not? How long have you been wanting to ask this girl out? A while, yeah? Take it from me: waiting only makes it harder."
Jungkook begins to clean up the makeshift kitchen, keeping his hands busy on that task and he murmurs a soft reply. "I'd rather do it on my own time. Nothing against you, I just..."
Seeing his obvious discomfort, and realizing that he's not going to change his mind, you relent and let your next argument fall away. You grab a reusable grocery bag from the shelf by the registers and return to help him put things away. Jungkook's gaze flickers up to yours, clearly taken back by your silence.
"That's it?" he asks. "You're not going to push it anymore?"
"No, no," you reply, giving a dismissive wave of your hand. "You wanna do it on your own time, that's okay. I won't force you."
"Then why do you sound so salty about it?"
Tilting your head to the side, you blow a piece of hair out of your eyes. "'Cause I'm always salty?"
Jungkook snickers at your retort, showing his agreement through his lack of comeback.
The following minutes of cleanup are silent. The two of you enjoy each other's company as you put the ingredients into the bag, clean the cooking equipment and pans, and fix the mess around the cooking area. As you retrieve the dishes from the cubby area in front of the window, Jungkook counts out the amount of money owed to the store. Plus an extra tip to account for the mess and disturbance for the evening. You've known the owner for some time, and you highly doubt he'd mind given the circumstances, but seeing Jungkook go out of his way to make things right gives you a sense of pride.
And the little whisper of curiosity perks up again at the thought of who he might be pining after. It had better be someone worthy of him. You're protective of all your friends, but none more than your best friend. It twists your stomach in knots to think about him going through another heartbreak.
But what if this girl really is the one for him? You've never known him to be secretive. If she means this much to him, and he's too shy to talk about her, she's worth asking about.
Again.
You slip behind him at the register, standing up on your tip-toes to whisper, "Although, if you had asked her out already, you'd be at her apartment getting some right now instead of freezing your ass off here with me—"
The brunet groans loudly, caught off-guard by your sudden appearance, and tosses the bills onto the counter. "—Fucking knew you wouldn't let it go."
"I'm just sayin'! Year of the Rabbit could've started off with a bang for the Gym Bunny."
He turns on his heel, staring you down with an unamused expression and cocked eyebrow. "You realize I'm not even born the Year of the Rabbit, right? I'm Year of the Ox."
With a wave of your hand, you reply, "Ox, Rabbit, whatever. It's not even good luck for your birth year, anyway. Be glad it's not the Year of the Ox."
"At least I'm not Year of the Tiger, like you."
"Which explains my shitty year last year," you snide, referencing the prior year in the Chinese zodiac cycle. "Well, what's your girlfriend's zodiac then?"
Jungkook runs a hand through his dark, unruly locks as he turns his back to you. "Um...Rabbit."
"Oof, then maybe don't call her."
He moves across the room, scoops up the blanket from the flower shop, and shakes the crumbs of food from the interior. Eyes still averting yours, he returns, blanket in hand. Draping the scarlet fabric across your shoulders, you fall silent. All sarcasm and teasing instantly fades at the closeness. The gesture silences you; tattooed fingers are gentle and warm as they tighten the throw around you, brushing against your exposed neck.
"Wh—What was that for?" you murmur, voice suddenly softer in the neon light of the bakery.
Jungkook grins, and your heart drops into your stomach when his dimples take center-stage. "You looked cold."
"Oh...really? I feel fine."
A single inked finger caresses your cheek, leaving a trail of tingles and warmth in its wake. "Your cheeks are rosy." His voice is even quieter than yours, and for a brief moment, his gaze locks with yours.
Swallowing dryly, you cup your cheeks between your palms. "I feel warm."
He chuckles, "That's probably the soju, Flower Child."
You narrow your eyes as you stare up at him, keeping your vermilion cheeks covered. "You're trying to distract me, aren't you." It's more of an accusation than a question.”
Jungkook sighs heavily, dropping his hands from the blanket's periphery. "You're really not gonna let this go, are you?"
"I'm just curious!" you exclaim, shaking yourself out of the stupor caused by his closeness. "Who's lucky enough to grab your attention?"
His eyes close for a brief moment. In the silence, you feel the heaviness return to the conversation. The air is uncomfortable, and you find yourself shuffling in place.
"After the holiday," he breathes, letting his attention move to the tile flooring below. "Maybe...Maybe—"
The sound of explosions and the sight of scarlet flares raining from the sky cuts his sentence off. You jump slightly, instinctively moving closer to him. Jungkook's hand reaches for yours, and when you glance up at him, you see his eyes glued to the windows that line the front of the supermarket.
When it happens a second time, he drags you towards the front, moving slow and cautious. The scarlet lights rain down from the sky again, and from your spot against the glass, you see the aftermath of multicolored firework displays.
Once you realize what the origin of the explosion is, a grin spreads across your face. Your fingers lace with Jungkook's, and you tug him towards the supply closet from where you came hours prior.
"C'mon!" you cheer. "The snow's stopped, and we gotta get a better view."
"Where?" your best friend inquires, though he allows you to tug him along behind you.
"The roof! Follow me, I think I can get to it from the attic!"
The Busan native follows you without question. Your hand in his, the pair of you trek across the supermarket, into the supplies closet, and back up the ladder into the attic space. You recall Yoongi telling you at one point that there was an entrance to the roof somewhere inside.
Upon entering the connecting space above the stores, you're met with the familiar chill and darkness. Jungkook utilizes the flashlight on his cellphone without you having to ask. Trudging along, you find the entrance to the roof in less than a minute. The door is small and hardly recognizable but thankfully unlocked.
Pushing through, you and your companion land on a long rooftop that gives a gorgeous view of downtown Seoul. The snow has stopped falling, and the storm has moved on in the direction of the Yellow Sea. Every rooftop, every building, every street is covered in white. But slowly, as if Itaewon-dong is awakening after a winter slumber, lights reappear. Flares, lanterns, fireworks: the city comes to life before your eyes. Hues of gold and scarlet contrast beautifully against the porcelain.
Another firework bounds into the air, originating from the hill near Namsan Tower. You tug on Jungkook's hand, nodding towards the edge of the building. "C'mon, let's get a closer look."
Leaning against the edge of the building, arms propped against the railing, you turn your gaze upwards as a third round of fireworks shower the sky with warm colors. Jungkook stands beside you, hand still over yours on the brick ledge. The temperature is still around freezing, but you hardly mind. But you have a sweatshirt and blanket wrapped around you, and your concern shifts to your best friend.
"Are you cold?" you ask, looking over at him.
His breath comes out in vague clouds, but he's smiling as he shakes his head. "Nope."
"Are you lying?"
"Maybe..."
With a playful roll of your eyes, you shrug the blanket from your shoulders and drape it over him, covering his head and shoulders with ease. Jungkook tries to push it back into your grasp, but you give him a scowl and state, "Don't give me that, Gym Bunny. I have a sweatshirt. All you have is that jacket, and it's hardly meant for snow. I'm perfectly warm—"
To your surprise, Jungkook grabs the edges of the blanket in both hands, moves to stand behind you, and wraps his arms around your middle. The blanket acts as a cocoon of body heat as he sets his chin on your shoulder and pulls you back into him. "How about this, then?"
Stammering over your words, you try to hide your blush by turning back to focus on the fireworks. "Yeah, that works, I guess."
You can feel him smirking against your shoulder as Jungkook takes your affirmation as a signal to relax against you. He's fully aware at how his back-hugs shut you up, and he's completely willing to use them to his advantage.
"Happy New Year, [Y/n]," he murmurs after a few minutes of silence.
Tugging the blanket tighter around you both, a small smile slips onto your face. You've never been one to believe in Lunar New Year miracles, the ones your grandmother told you about when you were small, but with Jungkook this close to you, you can't help but stand in awe and wonder at the butterflies in your stomach.
"For what it's worth, you don't have to tell me anything," you add, trying to hide the tender and sensitive heart you're nurturing. "I know you'll share when you're ready, and I hope you didn't feel like I was pressuring you."
Jungkook shakes his head, chin brushing against your sweatshirt. "I never thought that."
"Oh? Good..." You heave a sigh. "Must be some girl."
"She is," he admits. "And it's not that I don't want to tell you. I just..."
Shaking your head, you reach your hand up and back to pat the top of his head without turning around. "You don't have to say anything. Let's...Let's just watch the fireworks, yeah?"
Jungkook doesn't respond verbally, but the way his arms tighten around your center lets you know he's heard you.
"Happy New Year, Jungkookie."
In that moment, under the fireworks, you conclude that it doesn't matter who this girl is. As long as you have him in your life—no matter the role—you're content. You can live with being best friends if it means he's happy. That means more to you than the feelings you push down, and you'll always put his joy above yours.
Because if there's one thing that Jungkook has always been, it's your closest friend, your partner in crime, your one constant thing. Ever since you two met, he's always been bunny smiles, shining eyes, and pure of heart. He's always been there, at the edge of your vision, peripheral and steadfast—like the fireworks exploding in the corners of your eyes.

What about domestic headcanons for our best captains, Daichi, Kuroo, Bokuto and Oikawa? Just lie how they’d be as a husband and dad and stuff...
thank you for this request! on with the HCs :) hope you enjoy!
fun fact: i actually worked in backwards order for these so i started with oikawa and i tried to match the same amount for everyone else hehe (i also put this in a perspective of a female reader!)
Sawamura Daichi
Tumblr media
Daichi—model citizen, model son, but when it comes to you, y’all might as well call him a goner because he doesn’t really know what the heck to do with his feelings.
Don’t get me wrong, he’s an awesome boyfriend, but that’s after you get over the hump of mutual crushes and “what do we call ourselves?” talk.
He definitely took his time in proposing to you. After like, what, six years of dating? He seems like the type. He knew that you were the end game for him, but he wanted to make sure you knew he was the end game for you. (If you catch my drift.)
He doesn’t like to attract attention, so he proposes to you in a really lax way, which you prefer actually.
You’re probably cooking breakfast one day, and this man has had this ring in his immediate vicinity for weeks, but this is the moment he wanted.
You turn around and he’s on one knee and you start crying before he can even say anything.
“Yes.”
“(Y/N), I haven’t said anything yet.”
“I know.”
“Will you marry me?”
“Yes.”
It’s a beautiful ceremony and a beautiful reception held at a small park. You wouldn’t have it any other way.
He is, of course, the textbook companion. If you had to nitpick, you’d say that you wish you had your honeymoon at a destination, but hanging out in your new home, something just for yourselves, is pretty special.
Well, your home didn’t stay for just two people and you purchased it for that specific intention. You both are the type that knew you wanted children. It takes you a while to conceive, but it’s not a big deal because eventually, your daughter is born!
Again, literally the best dad from the get go. Your daughter is such a daddy’s girl, but hey, she loves him just as much as you do and you couldn’t ask for anything more. She’s a little spoiled, but she gets it from you. You’ve been spoiled by the best.
“(Y/N), can we get a dog?”
“Who’s asking, you or your daughter?”
With the largest eyes ever, “Both of us.”
How could you say no?
He’ll do anything for his children (assuming you’ll have more in the future).
The Karasuno boys come over often, with their own kids or without. Their lives aren’t complete without the other crows and their kiddos.
Kuroo Tetsurou
Tumblr media
Kuroo and you meet in college. Although you are in the same year, he already places in courses meant for third year college students.
You probably swooned the first time you met him. Like c'mon, a guy who is tall, hot, athletic, and has a brain? Signing you up since yesterday.
You found your ways to him and he eventually brought you on a date!
One date turned into hanging out, being there for his intramural volleyball games (because let’s face it, he’d probably want to focus more on school rather than playing professional college volleyball), and definitely study sessions where you don’t necessarily talk, but you like to keep each other company!
He wants the proposal to be more private, so he’ll do it at a family party! He picks this mostly because your parents are a large part of your life and he wouldn’t want them to miss this for the world! (To be honest, you don’t quite realize that this party is technically for you. Your parents suggested that he hold it on an important date, so that you wouldn’t have any suspicions. I’d probably do the same thing.)
Kuroo literally chooses the moment to surprise you with his proposal right as you’re about to dip into some chips lololol
“You can finish your chips later, but can I ask now if you’ll marry me?”
Probably a really shit way of asking you to marry him but it’s endearing, you know? Of course you say yes, how could you not? You’re so in love with the dude that even the dumbest things that come out of his mouth are adorable.
It’s also a small wedding because how will you be paying for a 100+ reception in Tokyo? No thank you! The list is cut down to about 50 people and it’s a lot more intimate and your style.
Your honeymoon…let’s not talk about it right now. Let’s just say that even though the two of you planned for kids down the road, you had one nine months after those days of the two of you by your lonesome.
It’s a girl! Kuroo hoped for a boy, but he literally falls in love with her from the moment she’s born.
“(Y/N), she’s so beautiful. You did that, you gave birth to her.”
Two years later, a son comes along. He treats his children the same and he has a lot to teach them about everything! Of course, volleyball is an important thing in your household, so don’t be surprised if you hear the three of them yelling over a volleyball match on the TV. (One of them has a different favorite team than the others and it is not the boys.)
“Are you kidding me? How is that out?!”
“Dad, what do you mean, that was out by a long shot!”
“Yeah, dad, you know I don’t like this team as much as you guys, but that was out for sure.”
He’s domestic by the definition and he loves to take care of you and his family.
Bokuto Koutarou
Tumblr media
Bokuto’s plans for proposing to you are simple: dinner at your favorite restaurant and propose at the end.
Most of his schemes are sweat-proof, but he couldn’t shake the idea of you potentially declining his proposal.
“Akaashi, I love her so much—”
“She’ll say yes, you don’t have to worry.”
When he arrived to pick you up, the sun is beginning to set so you are literally shimmering as you step outside.
“(Y/N)…you look so beautiful. Like a goddess! I look so, agh, I don’t know—”
“Don’t finish that, you look handsome, Koutarou,” you seal his lips with a kiss.
As the dinner progresses, his fidgeting is more prominent.
“Koutarou, are you okay?”
“Why wouldn’t I be? I’m doing just fine! Maybe you’re the one that’s a little off!”
Dessert has you living in bliss and when he rattles off things he loves about you, you can’t help but to grin at your love.
This all makes you more surprised when he gets down on one knee and proclaims, “I love you, (Y/N)! I want to be your husband and the father to all of your babies. Please let me be that to you, so will you marry me?”
“Yes, yes, yes!”
An eventful wedding and honeymoon go by and you’re back home, living your lives together.
He actually wants to wait to have children until he establishes a career after his professional volleyball days are over. He just doesn’t want to spend all of his time away and have that hurt the family dynamic.
It’s rough when he’s away for long periods of time, but your alone time is something you cherish, as well as a clean house, because once he takes one step in, the house is dirty.
You two raise three children: a boy and a set of twins, a boy and a girl.
While Bokuto attempts to raise the boys on volleyball, it is actually the girl who gets hooked on the game.
“I can’t believe my little princess is playing the game I love so much!”
Bokuto tries to defend his daughter from the boys of the guys he used to play against. (In other words, Oikawa and Kuroo’s sons.)
Oikawa Tooru
Tumblr media
To me, Oikawa is the type to propose after an important college game of theirs, after you’ve been dating since high school.
“We’ve been together for the longest time, so will you do me the honors of being mine for the rest of our lives?”
This is the one moment you’ve seen him at his most vulnerable.
Your wedding day is a big production, and after you are off to the honeymoon, it’s just a good time to relax and be in each other’s arms and company.
Even though he’s gone for some business trips, he likes to make the most of the days he’s with you—breakfast in bed, beach days (with volleyballs in stow), candlelit dinners.
Scratch only one moment. His second was when your son is born two years after you are married. It is a brutal birth, but you two came out healthy and happy.
With the birth scare, he is nowhere to be found because he’s off crying at the prospect of losing his wife and his son in one go.
“Iwa-chan, w-what if they both die?!”
“They won’t.”
When your son becomes old enough, Oikawa definitely teaches him how to play volleyball.
Oikawa also brings back little souvenirs from every business trip he returns from.
Upon looking back on old photos, “Dad, where is this one from?”
“This one is from our high school volleyball games. See, that’s your uncle, Iwa-chan, but don’t call him that. He’ll be upset at me.”
“And that one?”
“A business trip! That’s where me and mom went for our honeymoon too, but we don’t have any photos for you to look at from that.”
“How come?”
Oikawa chuckles and pats his son on the back. “Secret!” He exclaims as he winks at you.
