Formerly Gould's Book and Video Arcade (established 1967, moved to this historic building in 1989). Run by the eccentric second-hand bookseller, Bob Gould - until his death aged 75 after a fall on the job in 2011 - the cavernous old ironworks famously offered about 1.5 million titles for sale at any one time over three levels. About 45,000 of those books were catalogued. The business was taken over by his daughter Natalie, who shut the doors on the chaotic and ramshackle set-up in 2018, with an extraordinary closing down sale, and moved to much smaller premises at the other end of Newtown. Fondly remembered. Now lies derelict. Newtown.

13.7.19 I have never been so happy to see a ladder in my life. This is a beautiful bookshop I visited in Bath from when I went a while ago. It's a dream of mine to have shelf ladders, that roll along onto my kitchen cabinets so I can reach the top shelves on both. Xxx Emily

I love old bookstores! I found this little gem on a discount shelf, so decided to study a branch of magic I don’t really know. Witches need knowledge like fish need water

That's the thing about books. They let you travel without moving your feet.

Took a small detour to an out of the way bookshop yesterday. Didn’t get the chance to spend a lot of time but it was the highlight of my day
