rtc pet headcanons because i’m bored
ocean - definitely allergic to anything that moves so pets are pretty much out of the question. maybe a goldfish that was given to her as a joke bc it matched her hair. although it was a joke, she goes HARDCORE in taking care of it. that fat little goldfish gets treated like a princess. if anything ever happened to it ocean would enter a month long period of mourning
noel - BIG WEIRD PET ENERGY. i think he used to have one of those guinea pigs with the really long hair named Lola (Lola) and then after she passed he got a bird and named it after Sally from Caberet. He just. feels like a bird guy. Also definitely wants a hairless cat in the future
mischa - doesn’t have any actual pets (says he can’t take care of them) but the second he sees a hurt or stray animal he takes it in and nurses it back to health and tries to find it a good home through facebook. everyone goes to him if they need pet help he’s like Uraniums own unlicensed vet. even nursed noel’s bird when she was hurt. idk he seems like such an Animal Guy
ricky - we all know and love his fourteen cats. i think theyre all named after superheroes, and his favorite is a little calico named Daredevil. his family dresses them up for halloween each year with a theme.
penny - doesn’t have any pets, but collects taxidermy and calls all of them her ‘pets’. she posts them on national pet days and calls them all her dogs. she also names them really weird things. like she posts two taxidermied mice with the caption “happy national dog day to Quandale Dingle and Bouillon Cube”
constance - ABSOLUTELY LOVES DOGS SO MUCH but her family is nervous about having a big dog around her baby brother, so they have a little yorkie :) she also helps mischa with his pet adventures, she seems like she was the type of kid that desperately wanted to be a veterinarian until she realized she couldn’t stomach seeing hurt animals.

Happy pride everyone!
So... I decided to do something for Pride Month. For every day of the month I have picked a flag and "drawn" a corresponding character based on the palette.
If I have made any mistakes please feel free to comment, I will be glad to try and fix it. Or at least remember it for next year :)
I hope you enjoy my month of posting every day after taking like five months off!
Major Disclaimer: I did NOT do any of the drawings. I merely found a base on google or Pinterest. The only thing that belongs to me is the design (except the flag as a pallet and BG, of course.) Sorry if this makes you enjoy it any less.
Edit: I just realized, I spelled “belongs” wrong. Seriously, Darthhope? You had to? (That also means I spelled it wrong in all my posts, sorry about that)
Masterlist!
Pride peacock
Gary the gay goldfish
Lola the lesbian lioness
Bart, Barry, Betty & Berniece The Bisexual Bats
Poly the Polysexual Panda and her friend Pam the Polyamorous Pencil

oh, daisy, i am SO glad you asked! I do!! I collect Boyd's Bears, Mary's Moo Moos, Cherished Teddies, and generally any little ceramic or resin-cast animal figurine found at an antique store! Have some photos of my big shelf:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Something I don't collect but want to... Oh! Enamel pins! I've always wanted to have a big pin collection. I went to an antique store last week and saw the CUTEST raggedy ann pin and I wanted to buy it so bad, but I couldn't buy it bc I'd already bought two Mary's Moo Moos and I. do not have anywhere to put a pin.
3. Favorite song.... The Ballad of Jane Doe. I'm 99% sure it's gonna be the top song on my spotify wrapped this year. I love listening to it on low until the "and from the ground, beneath my feet-" and then slowly turning it up almost all the way (or sometimes all the way) for the angry part.
4. I love hamsters! They're very cute. They stink, though, and they have too short of a lifespan for me to own one. I tend to love deep and I couldn't take it </3
5. Favorite class... Probably Pre-AP 3D Art and Design! I have friends in there and I love the teacher and the class itself. It's like sculpture for kids who actually want to be there and have taken ceramics or sculpture already.
Here's some pictures of the piece I'm working on now! It's a bobcat skull. (and a picture of my teacher's goldfish)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
6, 7, 8, and 9. I do not wear wigs, I have never worn a wig, and I don't know if I'll wear one in the future? They kind of freak me out tbh, and I have a lot of hair.
10. Favorite color - Baby pink!
11. Favorite headcanon(s) of mine.... this is a tough one. I really like the idea that Jane's dolly was originally a gift for Ezra Penny had bought from an art vendor at the fair, and I like the idea that Constance and Penny grow closer to each other than anyone else in the choir in an everyone lives au.
12. Song currently/previously stuck in your head - Can't Take My Eyes Off of You by Frankie Valli

Note
TW students you would be wary keeping small pets around / ask to pet-sit? Like they would be horrible at taking care of them or end up on the menu somehow.
I'll stick with pet-sitting, specifically, and let's take it house by house...I'll put a "keep reading" after Scarabia. HEARTSLABYUL Trey is completely trustworthy, case closed. Riddle...is MOSTLY trustworthy, but I think how good he will do depends on the pet. If the pet is something like a goldfish, a hamster, a rabbit, something very small and very low-maintenance that doesn't make a lot of noise, he won't have any issues. But if it's a dog or a cat...that may be a bit more of a problem, because, to be honest, as much as I love my doggies and my kitty-cats...they can be quite a handful. And we know what a temper His Majesty has. Deuce is also similarly mostly trustworthy; in his case, I think he's RESPONSIBLE enough to take care of a pet, no matter what, the question is more competency. He IS a bit of a doof sometimes. Last but not least...I wouldn't trust Ace or Cater with a ten foot pole. For one thing, if it's a goldfish, specifically, I wouldn't put it past Ace to swallow the poor thing if, like, it was on a dare or something. And in both their cases, regardless of the pet, their both such carefree, scheming characters that I feel like they'd end up neglecting and/or getting annoyed with the pet after a time, no matter what it is, and trying to put the care on somebody else. SAVANACLAW DO NOT EVEN THINK OF ASKING LEONA OR RUGGIE. Leona is too lazy and too irritable, and you'll probably return to find that, whatever small animal you had as a companion, he's already used it to pad out his hips because it interrupted his nap or died from lack of care or something. Ruggie is more responsible, true, but...well...he's also Ruggie. Chances are he's already planning to try and eat it while you're gone. Now, to be fair to him, he might at least TRY to do a good job if you offer him enough payment...but the keyword is "try." I think Ruggie could last a day or two, but after three days, he'll be at his limit. And whatever you do, if you DO decide to trust him for some odd reason, don't pay him up front: he'll just take the money, eat your pet, and be done with it. Jack, however, I think is fairly trustworthy: he's not as "savage" as Leona or Ruggie, and tends to be the "nice" one of the trio, so much like Deuce, it really just becomes a question of competency...and between the two, I generally trust Jack more than Deuce. Jack is especially good with dogs, and while he might get annoyed with cats, he'll rein in his instincts. Totally not because he knows it would make you sad if he ate the darn feline. Nope. Not for that reason at all. He just doesn't think the stomachache is worth it. Yeah. That's all...ahem. OCTAVINELLE Azul is actually pretty trustworthy; he's probably one of your best choices, in fact, in terms of both competency and responsibility. HOWEVER, it's going to cost you a pretty penny, as you would imagine. Jade is...semi-trustworthy. I'm not sure about him, to be honest; on the one hand, he actually has fishbowls in his room, so we can presume he keeps pet fish...on the other hand, whether they're ACTUAL pets or just "convenient snacks he keeps hanging around" is up to debate. (I usually like to headcanon it's actually the latter, because I'm sick in the head.) Still, he's generally the most patient and responsible one of the trio, but just like Ruggie, paying him up front isn't a good idea: Azul will make sure your pet is well-cared for regardless, because customer satisfaction, but Jade might be the sort to take the money, put on a reliable front...and then let his brother "play" with your pet for most of the time you're gone. Speaking of, just like with Leona and Ruggie, DO NOT EVEN THINK OF ASKING FLOYD...and if you do ask Jade, know that Floyd is probably going to be with him at least half of the time, so it really depends on how much you trust him to keep Floyd in line. At best, Floyd will quite possibly cuddle your pet to death (and I mean that LITERALLY, hence why it's still a bad thing), and at worst, he'll either neglect them or just devour/crush them because they got on his nerves and he's sick
of them. Floyd is one of the worst options you can possibly choose. SCARABIA
Well, to be quite honest, whether you ask Jamil or Kalim to take charge, the result will be the same. If you ask Kalim, Jamil will join him to make sure he doesn't mess anything up, and if you ask Jamil, Kalim will join him because he just wants to gush over how cute your pet is, whatever they may be. Unless you're one of those sorts who has an ant farm or pet spiders or something - which will be a decided NOPE for both lads, especially Jamil - they're both actually pretty trustworthy and reliable, if only because they'll always work together. Kalim will deal with the affection, Jamil will deal with the actual technical responsibilities, so to speak.
POMEFIORE
Epel is actually pretty good at taking care of animals, I like to think. You can trust him no matter what. Rook and Vil, however...they can be iffy. Vil is better at tending to his makeup than cleaning out a rabbit cage or taking care of cat litter, let's put it that way...he'll try his best, but he'll grumble about it constantly and might not be as competent as you would expect. And Rook...well...Rook depends on the type of pet you have. If it's a common domestic animal of some kind, a typical dog, cat, fish, gerbil, etc., you have nothing to fear: the most he'll do is coo over how adorable they are in French. BUT, if you have a more EXOTIC pet - some kind of really fancy fish, or prize-winning pooch, or something like that - Rook is pretty much in the same class as Ruggie at that point. He won't necessarily EAT them, but Rook can be more Cruella-like than Professor Crewel at times, when it comes to more exotic and fascinating beasts, so please proceed with caution. IGNIHYDE Just like with Kalim and Jamil, whether you ask Ortho or Idia doesn't really matter, because you'll really end up with both. And both of them are actually pretty trustworthy BECAUSE they'll both be doing it. As we've seen in the Vignettes and such, Ortho has a lot of know-how thanks to his databanks, but in PRACTICE he won't always get it 100% right: knowing and doing are different matters. Idia, meanwhile, is kind of the opposite: we know he loves cuddly things, especially kitties, and he probably wouldn't have a problem with fish and hamsters and such, but he's more affectionate and understanding than he is legitimately knowledgeable at first moment. Just like Kalim and Jamil, though, the two can balance each other out: Ortho has the knowledge, Idia is there to help execute it. The worst that might happen is your pet might be snuggled to insanity, if they're even a snuggle-able type. DIASOMNIA Despite one being a bat-fairy, one being a crocodile-man, one being a dragon-fairy, and one being a narcoleptic swordsman...all four of these guys are surprisingly trustworthy! They're all responsible and unlikely to just randomly devour your precious pet. However, three out of four of them have decided weaknesses: Sebek gets annoyed easily, so if your pet is something that can be a bit noisy or rowdy, that's probably not going to go so hot. Especially given his appetite and carnivorous tendencies, he probably will work with low-maintenance types best. Silver LOVES animals, and animals love him, so he's actually one of the best options you can choose...but his tendency to just randomly fall asleep at moments COULD lead to some inadvertent accidents, so make sure you provide him with coffee or something to at least try and help there. As for Malleus...Malleus is probably the worst of the four to choose, despite him being so powerful and such, because he just doesn't understand a lot about the world, so to speak. He doesn't really know HOW to care for most pets, and with rowdy ones, that inner wrath of his is probably something they could set off. HOWEVER, since he cares about you, he'll try his best to make sure not to do anything wrong, even if that means getting help from others: he's not too proud to go to the experts and ensure he does this favor to its fullest. He's just a bit more unstable, so to speak, than the rest. Honestly, the best option of the four to choose is Lilia: despite his trolling demeanor, he's generally pretty responsible and he's certainly been around long enough and understands enough of the world to deal with a great variety of pets.

Pretty eyes
I've been working on this on and off for a few months now and i finally finished it :3 So have some MC telling the boys how pretty their eyes are.
Lucifer's look like a Garnet. Arguably they’re his best feature.
“Is there something wrong with my face Mc? Lucifer set his pen down and tilted his head in question. “You’ve been staring for quite some time now.”
Mc was supposed to be helping with some of the paperwork but they ended up starting at Lucifer as he worked instead. "Sorry I was just lost in thought for a minute there."
"Oh? What were you thinking about if I may be so bold?" Lucifer smirked, and Mc was almost certain he was aware the answer was about him.
"I was just thinking about how pretty your eyes were."
"Oh?" His eyebrows raised in question waiting for them to continue.
"They're a nice dark red like a ruby or Garnet stone. They also seem like they're almost glowing at times." They left out the part about how they seem to soften just a bit when it's just the two of them alone like this.
"Seems you've thought on this for quite some time." Lucifer chucked when Mc blushed slightly at the observation. "Either way, thank you, Mc. Compliments are always nice to hear from you." He finished going back to the paperwork that littered his desk, a smile still on his face.
Mammon's are like a pretty blue sky like I could really get lost in those fuckers. The gold in his eyes is also really cool like how there is gold in a lapis lazuli.
Mc watched as mammon excitedly explained his latest money makin’ scheme, his eyes lit up to match his bright smile.
“What do ya think?” He finished explaining, hoping for some sort of feedback from his human.
“Your eyes are really nice,” Mc said, fondly smiling at the demon who was now a blushing stuttering mess.
“Wha?! Mc- Oi-” He buried his face in his hands softly yelling for a moment. “Ya can’t just say shit like that outta nowhere!” He pouted, crossing his arms trying his damndest to look upset.
“It’s true though. I like looking at them, they're like a bright blue sky.” Mc expected Mammon to preen under the praise but instead, he got a bit smaller looking off to the side. “You don’t like them do you?”
“They look the same as the damned angels. Demons ain't supposed to have angel eyes. Makes me look weak.” Mammon refused to meet Mc’s gaze.
“The great mammon? Weak? I don’t think those fit together very well. You’re one of the strongest demons I know.” Mc insisted, hoping to boost the demon’s ego a bit. “They also remind me of Lapis Lazuli. Did you know that royalty used that stone a lot?”
Mammon looked up at the mention of royalty. “You saying I’m like a king or somethin’?” He paused thinking over it for a second before smiling widely. “I like the sound of that. King Mammon. You gotta be my second in command though ya hear?”
Levi’s reminds me of a goldfish. Like Henry. Feel like it’s lame but he’d probably just be impressed u noticed something to compliment lmao weeb boy with no confidence
“Hey, normie? Are you even paying attention still?” Levi waves a hand in front of MC’s face as they snap back to reality. ”If you didn’t want to listen to me you didn’t have to come. I get that it’s probably boring to listen to me talk on and on like this.”
Mc shakes their head. “Sorry Levi I didn’t mean to zone out and you aren’t boring me.” They were listening to him at first however the way his eyes always lit up when he talked about his special interests. “Your eyes are really nice, you know that right? They’re like…” they paused, their mind coming up a bit blank. “They're kinda like Henry 2.0 I guess. A nice golden orange… sorry that sounds kinda lame.” They turned attention back to Leviathan who was covering his face in an attempt to hide his blushing embarrassment.
“Yo-you can’t just say- say stuff like- like that normie! It’s like you’re trying to kill me here! A direct hit to my heart, It’s super effective!! Stop laughing!! I could have died MC!”
Satan's are also hard to describe because they’re such a unique greenish-blue color. The forest. They’re like the forest. They’re wild and unknown but you can’t help but wonder what lies within.
"Do I have a cat on my head again Mc?" Satan barely even looked up from his book. "You keep staring."
Mc laughed pointing at the cat that had settled on their lap a whole ago. "No, the cat is sleeping, I was just thinking."
"Oh?" Satan fumbled around on his armrest looking for something to save his page in the book."Penny for your thoughts?" He picked up a random piece of paper looking it over before closing it in his book and turning his attention to you.
"It's just your eyes, they're pretty." Mc shrugged.
"Pretty?" Satan sounded genuinely confused. Though when you think about it not many people would be calling the Avatar of Wrath's eyes pretty.
That is except for the human sitting right in front of him. "They're like a nice deep green forest. And they match the cat's." They set a hand on the cat's head as if to emphasize their point.
"Oh. That's…" Satan sat trying to figure out what to say. He apparently couldn't find the words since he just smiled before settling on "Thank you Mc. That means a lot."
Asmodeus’ are hard to explain but god they’re pretty…. They feel like the taste of the orange creamsicles. That makes no sense but that's the best way I can describe them.
“I can see you staring at my reflection darling.” Asmo smiled at Mc through the mirror on his vanity. “I don’t mind of course just wondering if you’d like something from me.
“I was just admiring your eyes, Asmo nothing big,” Mc replied simply. There wasn’t any reason to hold back any compliments from the demon, in fact, he’d be more upset with compliments being withheld from him.
“My eyes? Well, keep talking Mc. I’m sure you have lots to say about them since they’re the best in all of the Devildom after all!” Asmo quickly got up from his vanity sitting down in front of his human as if to give them a better view of his eyes.
“Well, they’re very pretty.”
“I know they’re pretty Mc.” Asmo playfully rolled his eyes. “Come on, don't hold back now. I know you have some better words in that pretty little head of yours.”
Mc tilted their head and sat thinking for a few minutes. “Well, I guess they kind of remind me of those orange creamsicles but specifically the taste of them if that makes any sense.”
Asmo giggled. “Well, it’s certainly a unique way of describing something. But I get that you can’t find words to describe something as beautiful as me. You have wonderful eyes as well darling. Only second to me of course.”
Beel’s and Belphie's are like dawn and dusk and I think that's beautiful…
Mc sat across from Beel and his twin who was snoozing away. It was quiet and peaceful for once, aside from Beel’s munching away at his pile of snacks. They smiled to themselves staring at Beel’s violet eyes.
“You okay?” Beel asked, pausing before taking another bite. His eyes shifted to a slightly more worried expression.
“Yeah, why?” Mc asked, tilting their head slightly.
“You’ve been staring at me a while now. I was worried I did something.” He smiled happy that nothing was wrong but was still curious why the human had been staring for so long.
“You didn’t do anything wrong, Beel.” Mc was quick to reassure the demon. “I was just thinking about how pretty your eyes are. They’re kinda like a sunrise you know.” Mc smiled fondly at the demon.
“You’re too sappy, it's gross,” Belphie spoke up causing the other two to turn their attention towards him. “Not to mention you sleep in too late; you probably don't even see the sunrise.” He lifted his head just enough to glare at Mc. There was no malice behind it though and felt softer than what was clearly intended.
“I’ve seen a couple here and there.” Mc shrugged now staring into Belphie’s eyes causing the demon to avert his gaze. “Your eyes are like a sunset.”
“We have the same eyes stupid. Can’t be both a sunset and a sunrise.” Belphie mumbled just enough to be heard.
“You don’t though. Beel’s eyes are more warm and optimistic like the coming of the new day, while yours are cold yet peaceful like the cover of the night sky. They’re the same yes but they’re still different.”
“That’s beautiful Mc.” Beel happily smiled as if the human had hung the stars.
His twin just mumbles something about them being gross and sappy again burying his head in his arms to hide his blush.

For the meta thing, how about big sisters with absent mothers: Winter and Yang? Like, how they dealt with things differently and what a friendship between them would look like
anon i just want you to know that as soon as received this ask i barged into my girlfriend’s room to be like “is this you???” because this ask is so EXQUISITELY tailored to my personal interests that i was like “literally who else would cater to me like this” and it was not her, apparently!!! so thank you very much for this ask.
of course i have SO MANY thoughts about this topic that it took me a complete month to marshal them into something faintly coherent, if staggeringly long, so. i hope it’s worth the wait.
S(chnee)-side: how to lose brothers and alienate sisters
let’s start from some well-trodden ground: the season 5 character shorts, and their subsequent caricaturization via Chibi, which posit the Yang vs. Winter dichotomy as something like “Yang loves Ruby by diving into a monster’s mouth for her, and telling her she always has her back, and Winter does the same for Weiss by...siccing monsters on her, and telling her that she won’t always be around to save her from them.” much hay has already been made about the reasons why the two of them would act in the ways they did, so for the purposes of my own meta i’m going to skip over those, and concentrate on how content since season 5 has updated these conceptions.
and on Winter’s end of things, these conceptions have been updated by showing that she’s, uh.
Tumblr media
...full of shit.
we’ve now had TWO instances of Winter going above and beyond to protect someone vulnerable. the first time was for Penny, with whom she has a sisterly bond, and the second time was for Ren, with whom she has...exchanged a few lines of dialogue. if she’s so ready and willing to hurl herself bodily into the path of an aggressor for someone who is basically a stranger, then why all the pageantry with Weiss about how she can’t (or won’t) save her? did she carve some kind of blood relative exemption into her saving people thing? does it only apply to people who wear a lot of green?¹
to properly address this question--and to bring in the Willow of it all--i think we should step back and ask: how does Winter actually feel about the Schnee name?
not Jacques’ name, mind. nor anything he did to besmirch it. Willow’s name, and Winter’s birthright.
because what has always been interesting to me is that while Weiss has talked about reclaiming or rehabilitating the Schnee name from their father’s meddling and still clearly wants to reconcile herself with it, even after being disinherited, Winter has only ever talked about distancing. it’s entirely possible that she had similar aspirations when she was around Weiss’ age and was just more thoroughly disabused of them, but my point stands: Winter shows a discomfort with the Schnee name overall in a way that Weiss has yet to. you don’t have to look any further than Winter’s combat style to see how this discomfort is telegraphed, as she barely uses any Dust, or Glyphs, and the one aspect of her Semblance that she does use and tout are Summons, which just so happens to be the part that emphasizes her own individual ability to conquer foes. something about the Schnee name feels irreconcilably tainted for Winter,² and while i’m sure a large part of it has to do with her father, who can make her explode into emotion confetti by just being in the same room as her for thirty seconds, a not-insignificant part can probably be chalked up to the fact that...
Willow Schnee was probably never all that good a mother.
granted: we’ve have exactly one scene (two if you count the 8.2 sneak peek) with her, so i’m fully ready to be called Boo Boo the Fool if we get a flashback and Willow was some kind of crusading super-mom prior to her descent into alcoholism, but. the idea that she hasn’t ALWAYS had to compromise herself and her children just to get by feels facile. this is not to victim blame, but to say that Willow is an imperfect person (in that she is. a person) placed into a horrific situation, which means that she could not always deal with the situation perfectly. it’s important to remember her agency--both before and after she became an alcoholic--but it’s just as important not to idealize it into something it’s not. Willow was by no means a co-abuser to her children, but she was probably always inconsistent, because living with your abuser for years on end does that to you. personally, i’ve always envisioned pre-alcoholism Willow as...well-meaning and much more perceptive and intelligent than people give her credit for, but beset with her own flaws that grew in proportion to her hurt and bitterness. she was capable of shielding her children from her husband’s worst excesses, and often did; but she was just as capable of retreating when she might have fought, of excusing Jacques’ actions to try to keep the peace, even of lashing out at those who shouldn’t have to handle her negative emotions.
her descent into alcoholism exacerbated these tendencies, but Willow has always been a complicated woman, and the idea that there was a prelapsarian time when Willow was an unmitigated good, before...idk, her Good battery ran out and she became Drunk Victim Non-Mom, is...well, it’s definitely something that a ten-year-old who had an ENORMOUSLY traumatic birthday would believe (and blame herself for), but Winter might disagree. i don’t think her view would be any more objective, if only because the day Winter Schnee has an un-myopic thought is the day i pass gracefully into the West, but her view is probably more complicated and less flattering, because Winter knew her mother more as a person, and that’s something we’re gonna talk about more with Yang and Ruby, later.
the point i want to make now, with Winter, is that her determined inconstancy, where she’ll readily jump into the jaws of a monster for her siblings in one breath and berate them and caution them against needing her in the next--that comes from her experience with Willow. the lesson she wants her siblings to learn is not just “the people who are supposed to love you are cruel, so get a helmet,” but “the people who are supposed to love you disappoint you, which is worse, so it’s better to not rely on them at all.”³ better for them to learn it from her than firsthand, but also--better for herself, because when she does disappoint them (and she did. she left.) at least she can take comfort in the fact that surely it doesn’t hurt as much; she warned them, after all.
in Winter’s mind, this kind of disappointment is an inevitability, so what’s paramount is to make sure that when it does happen her siblings are at least prepared for it. in the face of that the fact that she would actually risk life and limb to help them if they ever need it falls to the wayside; i don’t think it was a mindful decision that Winter consciously made--like, i don’t think she ever thought “i’m going to withhold the fact that i would die for them because that would contradict the whole social Darwinism thing i’m trying to drill into their heads,” because Winter’s just...not that kind of deliberate rational actor, in any arena. rather--and maybe even more damning--i think she just assumes that Weiss and Whitley already KNOW, that it’s a given for them the sacrifices she’d make for them in the same way it’s a given for her. but they don’t! because you have to say these things, and Winter has been force-feeding them the precise opposite.
ultimately all of these contradictory impulses stem from Winter’s deep-seated need for control--both of herself, and of the environments around her, and those in turn come from the fact that she was a) repeatedly wounded as a child and b) had to shoulder responsibilities far beyond her own ability as that same child, which...continues to this day. from this perspective, what matters is less keeping her siblings safe, and more her own ability to save them. she knows that’s imperfect, so she compensates by enforcing what worked for her onto them, and also by keeping them away from anything that could harm them, without their input. i never thought much of the contrast in environments for the character shorts--like of course Weiss would spar with Winter’s Summons at home like the untested shut-in she was--but what did take me aback was that in season 7, after Weiss has waltzed across an entire continent and been promoted to a full Huntress, Winter...still exclusively trains Weiss with her Summons up in Atlas, while Ruby and Yang are traipsing across Mantle killing ACTUAL Grimm. i have no doubt that this was for foreshadowing reasons, but still: it points to the fact that for all Winter loves Weiss and would fight giant monsters for her, there’s a part of her that...doesn’t trust Weiss, and wants to maintain control over her.⁴
this, i think, is part of the reason why Whitley treats her basically like an un-person: it’s not just that she left when he was too young and Jacques filled in all the gaps with lies and slander, it’s also that even when Winter was around the bigger age gap made it much easier for her to reconcile keeping him out of the loop, for his own good. she can’t ever be vulnerable around either of her siblings, but especially not Whitley, because he’s too young; he might let something slip when they’re around Jacques, and she shouldn’t be putting that kind of burden on him anyway. if he resents her when she’s just trying to protect him--except you said that you wouldn’t, Winter you absolute moron--then that’s his prerogative. it doesn’t change her own responsibilities. they can be miserable and Byronic in their own separate cubby holes and it’s fine.
(it’s not fine.)
R(ose)⁵-side: tonight, the role of Replacement Goldfish will be played by...everyone
let’s get one thing out of the way: Yang is a GOOD big sister, and some of the ways that she is good can be chalked up to the fact that she had a better home life, but only some. her character short ends with her promising Ruby that she’ll always have her back after spending the short proving it, and she has--until recently, and we’ll get to that--lived up to it. people get caught up on how much time Yang spends with Blake nowadays, but it’s important to remember that the entire impetus for Yang reuniting with anyone during the Mistral arc was about Ruby. so is the thing that separates a Yang from a Winter is that a Yang preaches what she practices, and isn’t firing a million zillion mixed signals at all times?
well--yeah, basically, but we’re gonna make a big thing out of it anyway.
what made Yang and Ruby different from the Schnees--even before the character shorts--was a sense of parity. in contrast to Winter insisting on maintaining a) the most unapproachable facade in the world, and b) a death-grip on every situation at all times, Yang was characterized from the outset as...chill (ironically). despite her Semblance being LITERALLY hotheadedness, Yang’s passionate energy never manifested in any real desire to take charge. the fact that she was fine (even happy!) with Ruby being bumped up to her year and then becoming leader speaks volumes to how much Yang trusts and respects Ruby’s judgement. rather than try to mask her flaws, she exudes this kind of...radiant fallibility and lets Ruby take care of her, or keep her in line. they complement each other: Yang takes care of more grounded concerns like individual fights and making friends, while Ruby--again, until recently--set more abstract goals and gave them moral direction.
a lot of this can be attributed to the smaller age gap, but i think it also comes from growing up as two motherless free-range children on an island--and the motherlessness is obviously a huge deal for both of them. when i started writing this i honestly thought i’d talk more about Raven, since she’s the mom who’s actually a character already, and her absence plays a huge role in how Yang deals with her abandonment issues in the present, but to be honest: the loss that cut the deepest for Ruby AND Yang is Summer, because Summer was actually around enough to be lost. despite the show frequently dividing custody of Team STRQ right down the middle between Ruby and Yang, where Ruby “gets” Summer and Qrow and Yang “gets” Tai and Raven, it’s the admixture of Rose and Branwen that makes the two of them who they are.⁶ Yang spent more time with Summer, but Ruby spends more time with Qrow, who is Yang’s blood uncle, so the dichotomy between nature and nurture is fascinatingly blurred.
i know this is an unpopular opinion, but i hope Summer really is dead, because the ways that her daughters interpellate their own identities from her absence drives so much of the story. that SUMMER was the first mother Yang lost--not Raven, because Yang didn’t even know about Raven until Summer died--is what shapes her relationship with Ruby, but also her relationship with Raven. what’s always simmering just below the surface of any Yang-Raven confrontation is that the person Yang actually wanted to find the whole time she was looking for Raven was Summer, because she wanted a mom, and a mom looked like Summer. Raven’s not stupid--it might be her one redeeming quality--so it’s likely that she’s always known and resented this. it’s not an accident that the moment Yang stopped looking for Raven for Raven and started looking for her for an easy conduit to her real family was the moment she actually found Raven.⁷ it was the first step to Yang outgrowing her old habits, of waiting for a mother to return--a classic “she needed a hero so that’s what she hurdy blah”
in a way that’s what she’s been doing this whole time. in contrast to Winter, who compensated for her mother’s flaws by ratifying them into universal law, Yang did the same by defying their supposed truth: people might leave her, but she won’t leave Ruby, and Ruby won’t leave her. it’s telling that whenever Yang leaves--even as a literal child--she always took Ruby with her, even if she planned on coming back. (it’s just as telling that when Winter left she didn’t.) she’ll always be there for Ruby, to give her the boost she needs to become the Summer they all want her to be, which means being a little of Summer herself--the part of Summer that baked cookies and slew monsters. and in return Ruby gave her...a sense of certainty, i think: that Ruby needs her and therefore won’t leave, but also that Ruby has the parts of Summer that Yang can’t muster herself--the grand heroic ideal, the moral certitude, etc.
...and now we’re finally gonna talk about the Schism, which i honestly think is the best thing that has happened to their relationship, development-wise. by the end of the Mistral arc Yang has arrived at a healthier perspective with respect to her relationships with everyone: now it’s not about indiscriminately giving herself away to people in the hopes that they might not leave her, but about choosing to give herself away to the people she loves and trusts. on one level this should not conflict with her relationship with Ruby at all, because Yang loves Ruby, but on another...the fact that Yang no longer feels obligated to perform unending support, to be the grounded complement, to fill in the parts of Summer that Ruby can’t--of COURSE that’s going to bring about conflict. because it turns out Yang never needed Ruby to give her direction or discipline. she’s now had time to think of the things she herself values, and those...don’t exactly match up with Ruby’s--or Summer’s.⁸ Yang, having known Summer as a mother, having been confronted repeatedly with the fallibility of mothers, is starting to outgrow Summer, and grow separately from Ruby.
but growing separately doesn’t have to mean growing apart, and i think Yang, at least, knows this. she clearly feels Some Kinda Way about their disagreement (and Blake’s implicit alignment with Ruby), but she’s also confident enough in her own beliefs by this point to commit to them. Yang’s taking charge instead of deferring to Ruby, and it turns out that...she’s actually not a bad leader herself, since she and Jaune have pretty much split a lot of those responsibilities. for her it’s not a question of losing faith or love in Ruby as a person, but about discovering what she herself fights for.
Ruby...sees it differently, because Ruby sees Summer differently. if Yang has always defined herself against Summer by deciding that she can NEVER fully be Summer, so she’ll make do with what she can, then Ruby’s always defined herself against Summer by marking Summer as the endpoint of her personal trajectory. what Ruby knows of Summer--that she was a person who enjoyed life and did not believe in original sin, that had a magical special destiny that was totally fine and awesome and didn’t drive her to her death, that she was a baker of cookies and slayer of monsters--is what Tai and Qrow--and Yang--told her about Summer, because Ruby was too young to remember the real Summer. so Summer for her is this abstract paragon to live up to, and no more. she can’t possibly exceed Summer, because the Summer Ruby knows encompasses literally all that is good.
when Yang tells Ruby “i’ve always got your back” in the short, a lot of it is about Yang, and the ways Yang needed to be there for other people so they’ll be there for her in return. but it’s also something Ruby really needed to hear, because Ruby needed the security and comfort of knowing that even if she screws up there are people around her who can help shoulder the burden. that security already took a serious hit after Yang lost her arm, but Ruby, kind and generous person that she is, was able to reconcile with that, because YANG HAD JUST LOST HER ARM. it would be ridiculous to expect Yang to have her back the way she used to, and besides--it was time she grew up, and growing up means becoming more like Summer, all of Summer, by herself.
and...she gets pretty far, is the thing, because Ruby IS a lot like Summer, and is incredible and amazing all by herself to boot, but the point is that no one should feel this much pressure to be All That Is Good, especially when you’re a teen. Ruby’s not ready to recognize that, partly because at this point so many people are looking to her for leadership, but also because being Summer’s heir is the only real link she has to her mom.⁹ so she hunkers down and does the best she can, in a situation that has far spiraled beyond anybody’s control...and then Yang tells her that it’s not working out, that this time it’s not that she can’t have Ruby’s back, but that she won’t. in Ruby’s mind, this could only mean one of two things: either Yang no longer believes what Ruby believes--what Summer believed, or...Yang no longer believes in Ruby, because she wasn’t good enough.
and well. it’s Ruby. it’s not hard to guess which reason she’s picking right now, especially since she pretty conspicuously refused to call the shots during the Amity heist.
but this is of course a false dichotomy. it’s not about which one of them is right, or even more right, and the show does a very good job with the framing to show that both of them have a point. similarly, what Ruby needs right now is neither confirmation that her long-held beliefs are objectively the best ones, nor that she is good enough to become Summer after all. no; what she needs instead is the knowledge that she’s allowed to fuck up, to deviate from what people have told her about Summer, to become what Summer never was. that’s something Yang can--and will--help her work out.
oh no this analogy is breaking apart: how they’d get along
...oi.
look, even beyond the fact that Winter doesn’t get along with ANYONE over much, i don’t think there’s any universe where she wouldn’t immediately rub Yang the wrong way. not only because Winter’d initially treat Ruby with the same cold tyranny that she (up until very recently) treats Weiss, but also because Yang’s partner is Blake, and--to say nothing of Atlas/Schnee-on-Faunus oppression--she was personally made collateral during the fallout with Blake’s abuser.¹⁰ i myself wouldn’t say that Winter abused Weiss, but to Yang’s protective and skewed view...
well, can you imagine Weiss trying to explain the way Winter ~~~trained her to the Bees? “oh, she sent a pack of Beowolves to hunt me! it was a meant-to-lose fight and when i started doing well she just moved the goalposts. one of her wolves almost ate me before i begged her to stop but it...probably...wouldn’t have...it was fine! my Aura didn’t dip THAT much. Winter’s the best!!” Yang’s hair would have been on fire after the first sentence, is all i’m saying. this coupled with the fact that Yang would very likely view Winter leaving Weiss and Whitley through the lens of Raven doing the same thing to her, and i think it would take a pretty long time for the two of them to see eye to eye on anything.
which is not to say that they have nowhere to go but antagonism, because at their cores Winter and Yang both have a) no hesitation whatsoever when it comes to protecting the people they care about and b) a tendency to define protection literally, often bodily. the difference is that Yang’s Semblance weaponizes these protective instincts for her, and she learned the limits of taking that too far. Winter...doesn’t, and hasn’t.¹¹ that COULD lead to some interesting conversations, but i don’t think Yang has quite the emotional clarity and generosity to reckon with that yet, and they’re not about to talk about it inside the Giant Whale.
a necessary part of Winter’s development is learning to respect the people around her instead of instantly categorizing them into boxes labeled “to fight” and “to protect and order around.” her friction with Yang could be an intriguing way to explore that; i have no doubt, for example, that Winter would have hurled herself between Elm and Yang just as readily as she had between Elm and Ren. similarly, i think if Winter ever were in the same room with both Raven and Yang she’d last about ten seconds before trying to rip Raven’s hair out with her teeth, because Raven is neglectful and casually demeaning in ways that are instantly recognizable to Winter (in the same way they were to Weiss).¹² the issue is that her doing any of these things for Yang--y’know, the same Yang who IMMEDIATELY gave Blake the cold shoulder when she tried to pull the whole “i’ll protect you” crap--is that she would only find it confusing and frustrating, and likely wouldn’t mince words expressing that.
Yang’s a big sister herself, and therefore knows all the big sister tricks, and Yang has a consistent pattern of not wanting to rely on other people, particularly people she sees as adults. so the best path toward a Winter and Yang friendship is probably not the head-on approach, but obliquely through someone else. that someone else can’t be Weiss, because Yang would be already hypervigilant about the way Winter treats Weiss--but it could be Ruby. even putting aside the fact that she is now one of the most important people in the world for BOTH her sisters, Ruby herself is very easy to love, and Winter loves very easily, despite herself. what they have in common--idealism and a martyr complex--would also engender some cool interactions, and Ruby would let Winter take care of her, if only to make Winter feel better.
i could see that being the impetus for Yang tentatively, grudgingly forming her own friendship with Winter, because there ARE things that Winter can give Yang, even if Yang can’t (or won’t) admit she wants them. it’s nice to try out being the kid sister, once in a while.
still, even if they get that far: i can’t imagine their relationship as anything friendlier than this.
¹ tbh neither would actually surprise me; what Winter does and doesn’t let herself do is only knowable to the Gods Who Have Forsaken This Land, and they’re certainly unknowable to Winter herself.
² maybe she knows that the whole “the Schnees were up-from-bootstraps-good-capitalists until that guy Jacques came along” thing is stupid!! i don’t care that he’s Santa Nicholas Schnee ain’t shit
³ this i think is why the current thing with Ironwood is such a bitter pill to swallow, because...she thought she’d been so careful. not in thinking that she’d chosen a man who couldn’t disappoint her, but in caring so deeply about him and investing so much of herself into him, despite the fact she’s only ever let herself call him “sir,” or “General.”
⁴ though i will say, to give Winter some credit: she actually accepts the fact that her sister is totally her own person now with a lot more aplomb than i’d expected, both in the “you stole an airship” scene and during all of Sparks. i wouldn’t be so generous as to read subtle treason into her disclosure of Ironwood’s Winter Maiden plans, but it does point to Winter’s desire for control being much more easily unlearned than that of her boss.
⁵ geddit? it’s a joke about handed-ness because now they both have the Hand Tremor
⁶ Tai is, as always and on purpose, the stabilizing agent. “appropriately underwhelming,” as Winter might put it, but absolutely essential.
⁷ of course then Raven had the gall to resent THAT too, because she’s the worst, and...see above, about Winter Schnee’s self-unknowing.
⁸ curiously, the values that Yang most espouses now--the importance of knowing what you’re getting into, protecting what is tangible, what is within your ability--are a) hard-won from years of taking care of Ruby and b) ones that she shares with Raven. the only difference is that Yang’s circle of protection extends far beyond Raven’s, which only includes herself.
⁹ weirdly enough the best person to talk to Ruby about this might be Raven, who has a very skewed perception of Summer herself (because Raven’s perception of EVERYONE is generally fucked up), but probably won’t hold back when talking about Summer’s flaws. Ruby won’t want to hear any of it, but i think she needs to.
¹⁰ i do think Blake and Winter would have some interesting conversations, if Blake ever...was generous enough to deal with *gestures at all of Winter.* it’s easier to compare Blake to Willow given the shared nature of their interpersonal abuse, but Winter on the other hand knows what it’s like to be hand-picked and groomed by a charismatic man with a singular vision who ended up wholly compromising that vision for the sake of their personal ego. that the White Fang are a good force perverted while the Atlesian Military is rotten to the core would...make the conversation more lively? it’s probably fine?
¹¹ “i’m Winter Schnee and i have maladaptive coping mechanisms that i am currently clinging to, as a maladaptive coping mechanism”
¹² though there...probably IS a world where Raven and Winter end up getting along after the initial skirmish, and it disturbs Yang and Qrow to no end

Trouble: Prologue
Tumblr media
*Gif not mine*
Rating: M
Words: 1.2K short because shes a prologue
Warnings: None right now, but will be smut eventually
Request: OPEN/CLOSED
Summary: After Haley’s passing, Aaron Hotchner has lost the light in his eyes. He seems to find it it the most unlikely of places, an occult themed coffee shop ran by a witch.
A.N: I took some liberties describing the reader, so if that’s not your thing I’m sorry. The idea of Hotch dating a goth witch is just *chefs kiss* to me. This story will switch from 3rd to second person as most of my stories do.  All crystal and tarot information may not be completely accurate because I got them from my best friend who’s a witch, and even then I zoned out slightly. Message to be added to the taglist. Much love, Cia
Prologue: Got so much to lose
The months following Haley’s death were rough. Anyone could tell you that.
Hotch was reckless. And despite what he told everyone, still hurting. Not to mention, he was still trying to find the balance between work and home life. Jack was way more understanding of his dad’s need to work than any kid should have to be at his age. That didn’t stop Aaron from at least trying so he always had early mornings to late nights at the office so every weekend he was home for he could leave early Fridays and spend the weekend with Jack.
That however was putting a strain on him, he was tired almost all the time and frankly the office coffee wasn’t doing it anymore. Which is why he found himself at Hallowed Grounds Coffee and Tea one morning.
The first time he’d heard about it had been one morning when he walked in on his team members arguing about it.
“I can’t believe you went to HG without me!” Garcia said to Reid, who was sipping smugly out of a coffee cup that had ‘Dr. Know-it-all’ written on the side with a smiley face. “What happened to loyalty?”
“Sorry, Garcia. It was a last minute thing, I needed something to wake me up.”
Garcia pouted as Hotch approached them. “Why’re you arguing so early in the morning?” He asked.
“Spencer went to Hallowed Grounds without me, even though I was the one gracious enough to tell him about it.”
“Hallowed Grounds?”
“Yea, it’s a new coffee place not far from here.” Spencer adds. “Coffee’s amazing plus the girl who works there is nice.”
“Oh, you have a crush on her! That’s why you went without me.” Penelope squawks.
Spencer laughs. “No, the coffee’s just that good. Y/n’s nice and all but she’s a little...intense” he says, trying to find the right word. Hotch left the conversation then as it was not his forte.
Upon entering, Aaron immediately took in the occult feeling of the shop. Black and brown color scheme,a giant black and white painting of the entire zodiac chart, 6 shelves lined the walls in a zigzag pattern, 5 shelves were full of books, the first one he zeroed in on said “Beginners guide to tarot” he could only assume the rest of the shelves were full of that. The last shelf held a black cat who was peacefully napping. There was soft jazz music that Hotch could hear someone softly humming to but couldn’t see them. Hotch already felt uneasy, but he was already feigning for coffee so he rang the bell on the counter that was sitting next to what he believed was sage burning in an ashtray.
“One second!” A melodic voice called out. He heard some rummaging in the back before a woman stepped into view.
The first thing he noticed was her hair. It was tied up in a bun, a rich green color, her roots black which he could only assume was her natural color. The second thing was everything else. She wore red eyeshadow and heavy eyeliner that complimented her green hair, dangle earrings which now that she was closer he could see they were goldfish in bags. Tattoos lined her arms, not seeming to have a theme but she had a lot of them. And an apron tied around her waist that read It’s Poisoned in cursive font.
The last thing he noticed was her face. A ring piercing in her nose, a bright smile on her face, shining eyes. She’s breathtaking was the first thing Hotch thought.
“Hey, Sorry. People don’t really come in this early so I like to take the time to finish baking goods for the morning rush.” She said, smiling. “Haven’t seen you in here before though, Welcome to Hallowed Grounds, what can I get you?”
Hotch clears his throat, unexpectedly taken aback by the young woman. “Just a black coffee please.”
“Alright, that’ll be 2.45.” Hotch pretends he doesn’t feel the shock in his hand as she took the card from him. “Now I actually don’t have anything brewed yet, like I said I don’t really expect people this early. But if you want to wait it shouldn’t be more than 3 minutes.”
“Why are you open then?” Hotch asks, wincing at how rude he sounded unintentionally.
“Whoa, Mister.” She brushes off his brashness with a laugh. “Apparently I’m open this early in case Grumpy Gus’ like you need their black coffee before work. Which by your suit and inability to smile, I’m assuming you work at the FBI building down the block?”
Hotch nods, watching her deeply as she worked. He knew he was being creepy but he couldn’t help himself, there was something extremely captivating about her. He’s never thought of another woman that way after Haley.
She sets the coffee to brew before turning back to him. “Yea, I assumed so.” She then picks up a cup and a sharpie. “Can I have your name? For the order?”
“Hotchner. Aaron Hotchner.” He says. He didn’t know why he gave this completely stranger his full name but he trusted her for some strange reason.
“Hotchner… That sounds familiar.” She says, now just drawing on the cup, thinking. She then points at him with the sharpie. “You’re Penny and Dr. Know-it-All’s boss, aren’t you?” He nods again, assuming you were talking about Penelope and Spencer. “I love those two, even though Spencer likes to argue with me about my beliefs too much.”
“You believe in the Occult.” Aaron says, more of a statement than question. She nods.
“I believe in spirituality. And that the soul is powerful enough to put power into anything it believes. The occult is just what I chose.” The coffee pot dings at the pot. She turns pouring it into the cup she’d been idly drawing on. She then capped it before handing it to Hotch. He examined the cup on it was a delicately drawn sunflower, a smiley face and Agent Grumpy Gus written in her delicate script. He couldn’t help the smile that spread across his face. “Have a good day, Aaron, hopefully I’ll see you again.” She smiles.
“Can I know your name?” Hotch says, before he can stop himself. “It seems only fair.”
“Y/n…” She says, smiling. “Can I give you something?” She says.
“Sure.” He responds, watching her reach under the counter through a small bin he couldn’t see the contents of. She rummages a while before finding what she wanted. She smiles, placing a small, clear crystal in his left palm.
“I dedicate this crystal to the highest good. I ask that it be used in love and light.” She says, softly closing his palm around it. “Clear quartz. Deflects negativity and attracts positivity, hopefully it’ll promote some happiness in you.” She winks.
“Is this a service you provide to all your customers?”
“Only the ones who the spirits tell me need it.” She shrugs. “Now I have cookies to get in the oven, have a good day at work, Grumpy.” She says turning to go back into the back of the cafe.
Aaron stares after her for a second. Not fully grasping what just happened. Only thing that was clear in his mind was that he needed to see the woman again. He took a cautious sip from his cup.
Fuck, it actually is really good coffee.

While it lasts
This was supposed to be kind of a S4 theory about akumatized Luka + a canon-verse Lukanette approach. I guess my hand slipped?  This is similar to my previous fic ‘Betrayer’, in which Juleka was the akumatized one.
Warning: ANGST.
AO3 _________________________
"Jagged Stone is your father" Anarka had just told her twin children.
Luka's world was shattered into pieces.
Jagged Stone. His favorite musician. His inspiration. His mother's old music partner.
Their father.
One word occupies his mind: abandoned.
And the image of him takes a 180 degree turn. From admiration to despise.
His idol abandoned him. Him and his sister. His mother too.
Why?
He hates it. He hates all of it.
He hates it so much, not even his girlfriend Marinette can calm him down like she usually does. Not even her sympathetic voice or her sweet heart melody can heal him. Neither could her hand pressed on his in comfort.
Juleka's mind had gone blank for some seconds. Memories of how fond Luka was of Jagged Stone occupying her mind. 'Cool', she thinks, and then she focuses on her brother, who is clearly in shock.
In silence. In a trance.
He can't hear anything anymore, she realizes, after noticing how he isn't paying attention to either Marinette's, her mother's or her own calls.
His heart song is strident, loud, noisy- And his eyes lose all his light, all his kindness too.
'Abandoned'
This word keeps spiraling in his mind. On repeat. In an infinite loop.
"Luka!" He hears Marinette's voice call him in alert, finally making him snap out of it and find the strength to fight the akuma that just entered his guitar.
“Marinette… Don’t abandon me…” he begs, holding her while fighting not to lose control and fall under Shadow Moth's control.
“I won’t”, she assures him, clearly supporting him. She keeps encouraging him not to fall into the darkness of the dark butterfly.
Her melody is sincere. So sincere she can’t hide her still unburied feelings for certain blond hair and green eyes that make her heart flutter. And he can see it: the moment that is bound to happen, the moment Marinette will break up with him to go to Adrien. The moment all walls separating them will collapse and they will meet each other in the tangled maze of secrets they’re currently trapped in. The crumble of the castle that allowed him the miracle to have her by his side at this moment.
“You won’t” he whispers, feeling his biggest fear close: Silence- loneliness.
Abandoned.
His arms tighten around her, holding her even closer, impeding her from moving. He pulls her so close he's even hurting her a little. Marinette slightly protests in a cry, but she’s more emotionally affected than physically. "Luka-!"
She's scared.
She wants to assure him she’s honest. She wishes to be able to give him all her love, her existence-
And his newly appeared akuma form is willing to take it all.
His guitar is now a big fish net, his body has grown 3 times bigger and his looks are similar to a sea God. ‘Glaucus’, he calls himself. The name of the God of the fishermen in Greek mythology. His hair is longer, and his belly has become a transparent fish tank, where he plans to keep his loved ones, both safe and close so they don’t abandon him.
Punishment for the ones who abandon, lie and betray.
Protection for the loved ones.
'Justice', he calls it.
He doesn’t even need a big fish tank, because his loved ones are limited. A countable number of individuals is enough for him: Marinette, his mother, his twin sister, the rest of Kitty Section… Mylène too, maybe, since he would feel bad for Ivan if he left her out of it. And he would consider Marinette's family too, since he knows how much she appreciates them.
As for punishment? It's also clear: Jagged Stone comes first, followed by Lila Rossi among others who have dared to hurt his loved ones, such as Chloe Bourgeois and Bob Roth.
Marinette trembles at the vision after he finally lets her go of her to grab his fish catching instrument. A tear escapes her eye, and slides to fall from her chin. And then she runs: because that’s the only way she can help him: run, transform, defeat him and fix the damage she will fight to prevent from happening.
But she's ignoring the most important fact. The fact that that's exactly the action which will lead to her down fall, the sight that frightens Luka the most: Marinette turning her back to him, leaving him all alone.
His song abandoning him.
Rage, pain and despair fills his heart, unable to be contained with his meditation or her music. The music he himself turned into a loud mess, sounding just like nails scraping on a chalkboard, painful to his ears and his soul.
And that’s when he traps her, his net capturing her and turning her into a small, bright pink colored mermaid, he literally swallows to get her inside the fish tank he carries inside his transparent glass made belly.
A relieved sigh leaving his throat: Marinette is now secured. She won't leave his side again. ‘Who’s next…?’ He questions himself, looking at his horrified mother, Anarka as he smirks. He'll soon have all of them in his treasured fish tank.
And what will happen to those who deserve punishment? Fish out of the water- dry fins gasping for oxygen. Dead fish with eyes as cold as their hearts. Or even better- Jagged is going to be abandoned on his own before that- just like he cold-heartedly abandoned him and his sister.
And now that he mentions it… 'Where's Juleka?'
The akuma looks for her, but he doesn't see her around. 'She can wait' he decides, his chants summoning a big sea wave to carry him to his unwanted father's hotel suite.
__________
Jagged Stone can't believe his eyes. An akuma claiming to be his son has just turned Penny into a goldfish, who is now struggling with tiny desperate jumps for oxygen to breathe through her newly acquired fins. Impossible without water. Fang is next to join Jagged's personal assistant, now tiny and convulsing.
"Who are you!? Why are you doing this!? I have no kids!! Don't lie!! Stop this! Turn them to their original forms! They could die!" The rock star angrily begs under Glaucus lashes.
"You're the one who is lying! My mother never lies, so you are the one lying when you say you have no children! You're the one who abandoned us!" He yells as angry as Jagged. "All the admiration and respect I had for you is now hate and disgust! You deserve punishment for the sake of Justice!"
"Stop right there, mermaid boy. Didn't we already make it clear what the difference between revenge and justice was when you were 'Silencer'?" Chat Noir joined the battle, protecting Jagged from being crushed under the akuma's weapon.
The akuma attacks again, but this time he's stopped by someone else. Someone Chat Noir brought along with him- a new superhero.
_______
During the time Marinette was trapped, Tikki, safe and sound, had carried a Miraculous to Juleka, who was watching terrified at how the events developed on TV. She was too focused to notice the kwami, but she clearly noticed the box that fell on her hand out of nowhere. Reaching it, she curiously opened it, and a magical creature appeared in front of her.
"Hi there! I'm Roarr. It's nice to meet you, Juleka!" The little tiger introduced himself.
"What are you? What's going on?" Juleka questioned.
"I'm a kwami. I grant powers! Put on that jewelry and call for the magical words to transform into a superhero"
"Me? A superhero like Ladybug? I don't think I can-" she nervously mumbled, unconfident.
"The guardian chose you for this mission! You want to save your brother, right?" Juleka nodded. "Then say the words: Roarr, transform me"
"Roarr, transform me" Juleka said, and magic surrounded her. Her new appearance was purple with tiger-like orange colored stripes over her body. Her mask was the same colors of the suit, and a pair of tiny ears decorated her now tied hair, her ponytail loose in the wind.
Moments later, she ran towards the hotel, unknowingly followed by Ladybug's kwami.
And the battle started.
________________
"Luka! I know you're hurt, but Jagged is telling the truth! He never abandoned u- you! He never knew he was a father! He probably doesn't even know by now!" The new hero desperately yelled.
"Lies! All lies! He deserves punishment! And you do too!" The akuma points at the heroes and Jagged who is hiding behind them.
"I'll show you the truth!" The tigress announces, calling for her superpower.
Her claws become shiny and with one touch, she marks an ‘X’ on Jagged's forehead, and a purple cloud comes out of his mouth and surrounds them, as if they had just entered his dreamland- except it's, in fact, the rock star’s memories.
Luka is in denial. It is true. Jagged Stone never knew about them. Which means he abandoned them unknowingly. Was he innocent, though?
No, he wasn’t. Because he had indeed abandoned his mother.
_______
Meanwhile, Marinette had been trying to find a way out of the fish tank. She couldn't transform into Ladybug even if Tikki was free, because that would make her identity public. She needed another plan.
That's when she asked Tikki to get Juleka the tiger Miraculous- and it had, once again, been the right choice.
Marinette couldn't just stay still, watching. She fought to find a way out.
Making use of the constant moving water, and with Anarka and Kitty Section's help, she found a way up, arriving to his heart. Or was it the akuma’s heart? It didn’t matter to her as long as she could save him.
The sight was not what she had expected: a vast sea surrounded by colorful stained glass with the people he cared the most portrayed on them. Anarka, Juleka and Kitty Section were there. Big, colorful and shining bright.
Marinette continued swimming in his inner tormented sea of darkness until she found another glass under a cliff: hers. It looked beautiful, but unreachable, since a rose garden guarded and protected it. Untouchable beauty.
Was this Luka's vision of her? A beautiful flower surrounded by thorns, with green stains on paint messing with the almost perfect piece of art’s balance and making it painful to watch?
Marientte felt her heart ache in guilt.
She knew she was the cause of the hurt in his eyes which he sometimes looked at her with. He had always seen through her, despite how much she had been starting to believe her own lies about ‘moving on’ and ‘love’.
Marinette shook her head: no time to waste. Cry later. Focus now.
Her tail brought her to a cliff island with a broken stained glass window next to it. The one that belonged to Jagged Stone, as his name was written on a rock. It most likely broke at the revelation of Jagged being Luka’s father, but now the window was pitch black, with the pieces scattered on the floor. Silent.
She could feel his fears of being abandoned in her own skin, and froze at the realization: his endurance and his strength were only there thanks to music. A music his heart lacked at the moment.
Music.
That's the answer. Music was what healed his heart. This time too, he needed music.
But what could she do without musical knowledge? Or without any instrument to play?
'My voice' she notices. ‘I still have my voice’
Marinette starts singing her own heart song as composed by Luka, while the battle outside continues, now with their visit to Jagged Stone's memories.
Perfect timing.
And clouds appear over Jagged's glass window, the wind carrying some pieces back to its original place- partly reconstructed.
Maybe the mermaid form had another purpose, Marinette wonders. Maybe Luka couldn't completely let go of music, after all, whether he was akumatized or not. Or maybe...
Back to present, Marinette sees a light up that lifts her out of Luka's insides. Next time she blinks, she has recovered her original appearance- clumsy human girl Marinette.
"Run!" Chat Noir commands, and she obeys. As she runs, she gazes back at Luka, who shows her a painfully sad smile.
"Marinette!" Her kwami calls her before she can give it deeper thought. "Tikki! Spots on!"
Moments later, Ladybug makes it to the battle. "Lucky charm!"
____________
The battle ends soon. Too soon, to Ladybug's surprise. ‘Why did he offer no resistance?’
She'll have time to think about this later. First… "Miraculous Ladybug!" Ladybug rushed to recover Juleka's Miraculous so they could go back to Luka as soon as possible.
"Thank you, Ladybug" Juleka says, running off to hug her brother.
Marinette detransforms next and soon reaches them too. But she hesitates again. Should she be by his side when she hurts him so much?
Luka meets her gaze and smiles softly, apologetically and embarrassed, but clearly welcoming her. And she doesn't hesitate anymore to join their collective hug, melting in love after a swirl of emotions. They part from the hug and they all focus on Jagged Stone who is still processing what happened.
"Wait a second- Are you really my children…? You thought I abandoned you…?” Jagged asks the twins, before turning his head to Anarka. “Why didn't you tell me? Weren't we partners? 'Rock-'n'-roll until the crocodile controls'. Remember?"
"You said you wanted to go solo. You left me behind. Did you really expect me to go back to you after the humiliation I suffered? I gave you my heart and you threw me away as soon as you could!" Anarka yelled.
"I was young and immature, and not the best father figure, I admit it! But I deserved to know! You should have told me!"
"I'm telling you now! They are your children, Luka and Juleka. If you ever want to meet them, you know where we live. Don’t you ever come back if you plan to abandon them later" Anarka says, grabbing her children's shoulders and guiding them to move out of the hotel room with a push.
"I'm sorry…" Luka mumbles to Jagged, before leaving the room.
"I'm the one who is sorry…" Jagged admits to Marinette before she runs to follow the Couffaines and Kitty Section. “I’ll go visit sometime! I promise!”
“Are you ok, Luka?” Marinette asks after leaving through the hotel doors, seeing how Jagged is looking at them from the highest balcony.
“I will be. Eventually…” he returns his gaze down to focus on Marinette, reaching to hold her hand. “I don’t need Jagged’s music as long as I can listen to yours''
Marinette feels her cheeks burn.
________________________
On their way home, Marinette can’t take what she’s seen out of her head. ‘It was Luka's heart, right? And Luka’s true feelings. He truly loves me’, she realized. ‘But why…?’
With an instant of bravery, Marinette pulls Luka's hand to separate themselves from the rest of his family and friends.
"Luka… I- Am I painful to be with? To watch?" She bites her lip a bit and asks in terror. “Am I hurting you?”
"Of course not, Marinette. Never.” Luka assures her with a soft, faint smile. “You're more than I could ever ask for. You're the most beautiful song I've ever heard"
"Even if I have those unbearable to watch green stains...?" she whispers, embarrassed and angry at herself for not being able to make her feelings go according to her wishes.
"It can’t be helped, can it? And even if that’s the case, for me, you’re still the most beautiful despite those colors"
“Is my heart song really enough to cover for that ugliness? I hate it myself…”
“You shouldn’t. Imperfections can enhance beauty. I don’t mind them as long as I can hear your song up close” he answers.
“But-! Are you sure…? Aren’t you afraid I might end up abandoning you?” she finally asks, scared for his answer.
“I am. I’m terrified” he admits. “But how am I supposed to stand in the way of your wishes- your happiness? I can’t and I won’t do that” Luka shrugs, “Aren’t you scared of being abandoned too?”
“I am” she answers, after giving it some thought. “and that’s not the main reason for it, but I want to stay by your side” she realizes, “more than ever”.
Luka squeezes her hand and shows her a soft expression. “Thank you for always saving me. Akumatized or not,” he whispers to her ear. It surprises Marinette to see how his cheeks are pink over his fond smile.
“No-! I- I just sang a song and- It was all thanks to the new her-” she stopped herself. Luka couldn’t possibly remember what happened when he was akumatized. No one told him, no one showed him the news. He couldn’t know he turned her into a mermaid, or how she sang. Yet he thanked her for saving him.
‘Of course he knows’ Marinette understands. ‘Yet he didn’t reveal me to Shadow Moth and he let me go on purpose, too’. Her thoughts deepen. ‘I get it now’ she reaches her conclusion. ‘He wanted me to save him. He wanted me to take him back after he realized he was on the wrong side. It makes sense. He protected me despite being akumatized once again- like when he was Silencer’.
The girl’s feet stop walking for a moment at the revelation, causing Luka to look back at her. Taking one step closer, she raises on her tiptoes and gives Luka a kiss on his lips, surprising both of them.
‘I wonder what kind of music his heart is hearing now,’ she wonders, ‘because I can only hear a grateful and sincere happy tune in my own heart right now’
“Your heartsong is beautiful” she finishes with a smile he reciprocates.
Most likely, both of them knew deep inside that their relationship as it was now was bound to end at some point, sooner or later. Maybe both of them would always be afraid of loneliness and being abandoned, too. But wasn’t it enough to enjoy the music they created in that instant, while it lasts? Isn’t it the same with live concerts? They might end, but the sensations last forever in memories. Is it something to regret? Neither of them felt it was. And perhaps both of them secretly agreed with that logic as they continued walking hand in hand, enjoying each other's company and welcoming their mutual love and support, in whatever form their relationship changes into in the future.

Do You Trust Me?
Someone To Stay Ch. 6
Spencer x fem reader
Tumblr media
Y/N POV:
*whack*
You smack your alarm as it goes off for the third time this morning. You look at the clock: 7:15AM. Was it later than you get to sleep in for work? Sure. Did you want to get up this early on your day off? Nope. Between JJ being the planner and Penelope's excitement for the weekend, they had convinced the the group that it would be best to get an early start. It was a several hour drive the to the lake, and they wanted to make the most of our time there.
You roll out of bed and look in the mirror. Sweats and a spaghetti strap tank...this will have to do. You leave your hair in the messy bun that you slept in. Half asleep, you fumble around for some socks and slip on some sandals. A horrific choice you know, but we're going for comfort here, not fashion. It'll be fine. You're not trying to impress anyone, and you'll fix yourself up once you get to the lake. You fully intend to nap part of the way there. You don't even bother to grab breakfast. Instead, you grab your bags you packed the night before and head downstairs. Spencer is probably waiting on you already.
You see him pulling the car up, right on time, as you make your way down the stairs. You slide into the passenger side, setting your bag down in the back seat. Reaching into a road trip bag in your lap, you pull out a blanket and pillow and curl up in your seat.
"Good morning sleepyhead" he chuckles. "Not a morning person, huh?"
You grin. "What gave it away?"
He hands you a paper bag and a coffee cup.
"Don't worry, it's green tea and honey" he reassures you, sensing your hesitation.
"I also got you a bagel."
"I don't know who's been giving you trade secrets but food is really the number one way to win me over." You glance over to see a slight smirk on his face. "How are you so awake? You had time to get ready, grab food, drive to my apartment, and you still seem more awake than I do."
"I'm kind of used to not getting much sleep." He shrugs this off as if it's nothing. You sense he doesn't intend on explaining any further, so you decide not to push him.
"I brought some snacks too. You're welcome to anything you'd like." You pull out a some goldfish, fruit gummies, and Capri suns.
He responds with a laugh.
"Ok you have the appetite of a ten year old."
You feel embarrassed for a moment until you see the smile he's giving you.
"It's cute though."
You find yourself blushing, not used to compliments. "Yeah I guess sometimes I just like to let loose, let my inner child out. Not everything has to be so serious all the time, ya know? What we do, both of us...it's stressful stuff. Sometimes eating whatever the heck I feel like helps with that. If that means chocolate milk and cocoa crispies cereal for dinner then so be it!"
Spencer gives you another smile before holding his hand out. "Alright, you won me over. I'll take a Capri sun."
You can't help but laugh as you watch him try to insert the straw with one hand and drive with the other. After awhile you decide to help him out.
"Here, let me see that." You fix the straw and hand him back the drink. "Goober" you laugh as you rolls your eyes at him.
"So what all are you planning on doing at the lake this weekend?" He asks.
"The question is...what am I NOT going to do?"
"Ugh." He rolls his eyes and laughs. "No fair. You're athletic, coordinated. You can actually do all the fun stuff."
You turn to face him with an incredulous look on your face, jaw dropped. "You're kidding me right? Me? Athletic? That's funny!" You laugh shaking your head. "Nahh I'd say we're on a level playing field. I'm not coordinated at all! I just like go have fun, try adventurous things. Like kayaking, I'm just mediocre but I still love doing it. The only sport I ever did was swimming."
"Ha! You were a swimmer, we're going to a lake, and you think we're on a level playing field?"
"Ok fair enough" you concede. "Will you at least try something new this weekend? Please?" You bat your big brown eyes at him, a technique that rarely failed you.
He feigns a look of annoyance, before a smile finally starts teasing at the corner of his lips. "Alright, alright." He throws his hands up in surrender. "But only if you help me with whatever it is we do. A swimmer and a nurse, you're practically our lifeguard for the weekend. Don't let me drown, ok?" He teases.
"Well since you asked so nicely." You give him a playful punch in the arm as you both laugh.
After a brief moment of silence you hear Spencer speak up. "Did you know that Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympian of all time, winning 28 medals in total, 23 of those being gold medals? He swam in his first Olympic Games at only 15 years old, and won his first gold medal at 19. And you...already knew this didn't you?" He stops when he sees your eyebrows raised, giving him a slight smirk.
"Yeah Spencer" you smile, shaking your head at him. "I don't mind though. I like hearing all the cool stuff you know."
You spend awhile listening to Spencer talk about everything from Olympic swimming facts to CPR statistics and the origin of the different swimming strokes. A lot of it you don't know already, and you enjoy learning all of this stuff from him. After awhile, you unintentionally drift off to sleep.
He looks over and smiles, he doesn't mind. This happens to him quite often, and the fact that you encouraged him to share his knowledge gives him comfort. He reaches over and pulls the blanket over your shoulders. Hoping to drown out the sound of the highway, he puts on some classical music at a low volume.
You wake up a couple hours later as you hear the loud sound of gravel under the tires.
"Morning sunshine" he grins at you.
"Oh I'm sorry! I wasn't going to make you drive the whole way."
"It's ok, you got your rest. Better you be rested up and have fun today than stay awake just to drive."
"Thanks Spencer." You smile to yourself. He really was very sweet. Good friends are hard to come by, especially ones you can trust that will stick around. You secretly hope that Spencer doesn't plan on dropping you as a friend anytime soon.
You climb out of the car and take a look around. You've arrived at a modest log cabin, sitting right on the edge of the lake. It's surrounded by y'all trees, so thick that you can't see any buildings anywhere else, if there are any. You stand there for a moment taking it all. You lean your head back and close your eyes, enjoying the sounds and smells of nature. It felt like home. You grab your bag out of the backseat and make your way along a dirt path toward the cabin. You stick yourself hand out by your side, brushing the leaves on the trees as you walk by.
"You really are in your element here, huh?" you hear Spencer call out from behind you.
"Oh you have no idea. Just wait till I get in the water" you shout back over your shoulder.
The two of you make your way into what appears to be the common living room. The cabin appears to be completely wooden everywhere, floors, ceilings, walls, beams. There's rustic decor and lots of plaid, but it's done tastefully. It feels so cozy, and you love it.
"Y/N! You made it! We're in here!" You see Penelope's head pop out of a doorway. You enter a room to find two sets of bunk beds. Penelope and Alex have taken bottom bunks. JJ has her stuff placed on the top bunk above Alex. You set your suitcase in an empty corner and throw your pillow on the bed above Penelope. You feel her sneak up and pull you into a tight hug. "Hey bunk buddy! This weekend is going to be so fun!"
"I'm surprised Penny, the outdoors don't seem like your type of weekend."
"Oh don't worry honey! I brought a float with coasters and a tray for the lake! I'll be sipping on wine and tanning all weekend."
"Just make sure to wear sunscreen okay." You give her a nudge and a smile.
"Okay Nurse Y/L/N." She rolls her eyes and laughs.
"Don't worry! I brought enough sunscreen for everyone."
"Haha, of course you did Aunt JJ."
You look over to see her unpacking her suitcase and organizing her things in the drawers and closets. You decide to do the same, that way it will be easier to find all your things later. After you've all finished unpacking, Alex says she's going to take a quick nap. After getting ready in your swim wear and coverups, you, Penelope, and JJ wander over to the guys room to see what they're up to.
You peek in to see Spencer reading on the bunk above Hotch, who appears to be on a FaceTime call with his son, Jack. Rossi isn't in the room. He's probably already started organizing things in the kitchen. Derek looks like he's ready for the lake, already in swim trunks and rubbing on sun tan lotion.
"You need any help with that, hot rod?" Penelope jests.
"You know it mama."
At this response, Penelope runs quickly across to room and helps Derek to finish rubbing in the suntan lotion on his back. She looks to be enjoying it a little too much.
You and JJ stay leaning in the doorway, laughing.
You finally speak up. "I don't know about y'all, but I've been stuck in a car all day! So if you need me, I'll be out at the lake!"
"I'm right behind, ya." JJ turns to follow you.
At this, Spencer finally pops up from behind his book. "Oh umm, we're going outside now? What are you going to do?"
"I don't know yet Spencer, come with us and we'll figure it out."
You wait on him while he changes into some swim trunks and a t shirt. He stands in the doorway a bit awkwardly, hesitant to leave the cabin.
"Come on!" You grab his hand pulling him out onto the porch and down toward the lake, following behind JJ, Penelope, and Derek.
When you get to the waters edge, you see the group has already spotted a rope swing. Derek appears to be climbing into a position to jump from. JJ stops him, to test the integrity of the rope first.
Penelope watches as Derek effortlessly climbs up the rocks. "My monkey man" she smirks.
Once JJ seems satisfied that the rope won't break, Derek swings out over the water, doing a back flip before making a splash in the water that sprays everyone watching from the shore. A chorus of groans rings out, half from annoyance at the show off, half from not wanting to get splashed.
You remove your shoes and your coverup as you prepare to get in the water. You can tell Spencer is making a conscious effort to avert his gaze. You blush, suddenly remembering the girls' previous comments about how good you looked in the slick back two piece.
You quickly make your way up the rocks and grab onto the rope as it swings back towards you. Spencer gives you a concerned look.
"Are you sure you want to do that? You could get hurt!" He shouts up at you.
Instead of answering you give him a quick smirk. You back up and get a running start for momentum, holding onto the rope as you swing out over the water. You let the momentum push you out as far as it will take you, as you angle your arms and body to dive deep into the water, just like you used to off the starting block in swimming. As you feel your body dive down into the water, you angle back up and do a quick, few dolphin kicks, propelling yourself much further from the shore. When you finally surface, you're about 20 or so meters from the shore. You see the group staring at where you dove into the water, confused and concerned.
"Over here guys!" You shout at the group to get their attention. They look up to see you much further away than they expected.
"Hey, you weren't kidding!" Spencer laughed.
"We might have to have ourselves a little competition little miss mermaid!" You laugh at Derek's new nickname for you.
You do a few strokes to bring you back to shore as you climb out of the water. You slick your hair back out of your eyes as you wring your hair out.
"Alright Spencer! Your turn!"
You giggle as you grab his hand and drag him towards the rocks.
"Umm yeah this is definitely not a good idea. You clearly know what you're doing, but I will definitely hurt myself. Did you know that drownings are the third leading cause of unintentional deaths?"
"Stop being such a party pooper! Loosen up a bit. Now climb." You cross your arms giving him a look that lets him know you mean business.
"If you fall, your knight in shining armor, Y/N will catch you!" Derek shouts from his spot where he's swimming in the lake. JJ and Penelope are watching from a float shaped like a giant unicorn. Typical Penny.
"Shut up, Derek!" Spencer shouts back at him.
You can tell that he's actually nervous, and not just unwilling to participate, so you decide to climb up after him.
"How about we go together?" You smile at him.
"Can we do that?" He asks, clearly not believing you.
"Yeah! See how there's a plank of wood on the bottom here? There's room for both of us to stand. And then we just hold onto the rope. We'll back up to get some momentum, then right when we get to the edge, we'll hop on the rope ok. But make sure to let go before it swings back towards the rocks."
The look he's giving you says he still doesn't think this will work.
You take his hand in yours, giving it a quick squeeze. "Do you trust me?"
You see the anxiety wash away as he's overcome by comfort. "Yeah, I do actually" he smiles, squeezing your hand back.
"On three okay? One...two...three!"
Before you know it, the two of you are landing in the water. You both come up for air as he starts a splash fight with you. You're both giggling and splashing like little kids, but having the time of your life. You feel water peg you in the back of the head. You turn around to see Hotch and Rossi armed with oversized water guns, peeking out from behind the trees on the shore.
"Hey that's not fair! We're unarmed!" You shout at the two men.
"Come join our team!" Rossi yells back. You and Spencer look at each other confused. You look up to see Alex carrying four water guns out to the water toward Derek, JJ, and Penny.
You and Spencer turn to each other, each with a huge grin. "Oh it's on!" You say.
"It's so on!" he replies before you both make your way onto shore as quickly as possible. Hotch and Rossi hand you each a weapon and the war commences.
After a long fight, the team in the lake finally surrenders. Your team is the clear winner.
"Winner's get dinner first!" Rossi shouts before the four of you make a mad dash for the cabin. You grab your towel, guessing that Alex had laid it out for you, as you see the other ladies' towels laid out as well well. Rossi had the dinner on warmers, so it's all ready for you. As the four of you take your plates full of food to the dining table outside, you pass your opponents. A series of snickers and goofy faces ensues as your team teases them endlessly.
You felt so comfortable around all of them. For people with such serious jobs, they sure do know how to let loose and have fun.
A/N:
I hope everyone is still enjoying it! I know it's a slow burn but it's so cute right 🥰I plan on picking up right where we left off! Please reblog or comment if you liked this chapter! I love hearing feedback!

Penny Date
Fluffvember Day 23: Penny Date - Noelle Silva (gender neutral reader)
Summary:  A number and a coin decide where you go on your date and you make the most of it
Word Count: 1,141
masterlist
A/N: For those of you who don’t know,  the general idea of a penny date is that you decide before you set out that you're going to flip a coin X number of times. Then you get in the car and begin driving, flipping the penny every time you come to a stop sign or stop light. I didn’t want to make this a modern AU so I adapted it to fit Black Clover :)
-----
Noelle laid back on your bed, arms over her eyes and sighing in exasperation. You looked up from your book and gave her a concerned glance, “What’s wrong Noelle?” She peeked at you from beneath her arm, “It’s nothing really. I’m just bored.” Setting your book down on your desk, you twisted in your chair to give her your full attention. “We could… go to that cafe you like?” You suggested, smiling when you saw Noelle’s face scrunch up in response. “But we did that yesterday.” You suggested several more places, but Noelle said no to each one; you didn’t mind much, Noelle was always particular about things and when she got in a mood like this, coming up with something that would catch her fancy would take a while.
Tapping your chin thoughtfully, you wracked your brain for an idea. You gasped when it came to you, “That’s it!” Noelle gave you a questioning look, “What’s it?” You couldn’t help the smile that broke out onto your face, “I know what we’re doing today.” She sat up slowly, resting her arms on the bed to support her. “You do?” She asked. You nodded, “Give me a number between 1 and 100 Noelle.”
She chewed on her lip thoughtfully. “20,” She decided, “But what for?” You simply smiled and stood up, reaching out your hand to help her to her feet. “You’ll see! Let’s go.” You left the hideout hand in hand, Noelle a bit bewildered but happy to be going somewhere with you. Inwardly, you chuckled. This is a great idea! You’d heard Magna and Luck talking about how a ‘Coin Date’ worked a while ago and it had intrigued you but you hadn’t had a chance to pull the idea out until now.
As you walked, Noelle was confused to say the least. You got further and further from the hideout and the terrain was becoming less and less familiar to her; she couldn’t bring herself to ask though, she had enough trust in you to know you had things handled.
Once you made it to town, a commoner's town, you pulled a coin from your pocket and held it up, the sunlight making it gleam. Noelle cocked her head in confusion, “What’s that for?” You gave her a cheeky grin, “This little guy is going to decide where we have our date today.” Noelle’s eyes nearly popped from her head, “What?! How is a coin going to decide?” You stifled a chuckle at her reaction, “We’re going to flip it and it’ll tell us which direction to go.” The gears started to turn in Noelle’s head but it wasn’t making her feel any more secure about the situation.
“Heads is right, and tails is left. When we reach an intersection we’ll flip it to decide.” Noelle nodded slowly, the picture starting to come together, “So when you asked me that number earlier, that’s how many times we flip it?” You nodded, “Yep!” Noelle wiped her hands on her skirt, although she had grown considerably more comfortable in common spaces, she still felt awkward and out of place sometimes, and this was no exception. She swallowed hard, “Are you sure about this?” You grabbed her hand, “Just trust me.” You said with a wink, sending heat straight to her cheeks.
You walked through the town, flipping your coin until you eventually reached a small building. “Should we go see what’s inside?” You asked, coaxing Noelle along. When she nodded, you pushed open the shop door, a charming little bell announcing your arrival. “Hello!” A woman, seemingly the shop owner, said. “Hi!” You replied, smiling easily at her. Noelle could scarcely believe it, there were so many animals in one place.
“What is this place?” She asked, a little bit of wonder creeping into her voice. You and the shop owner looked at each other before chuckling a little bit. Noelle’s face heated up in embarrassment but before she could object to your laughter you squeezed her shoulder, “Oh Noelle, you are very much not a commoner. This is a pet store, you can adopt pets here.” “Oh I see.” she said quietly, looking around at all the animals.
As Noelle walked around you took a chance to talk with the owner of the shop. “Do you contract with an adoption or rescue agency?” You asked, wanting to make sure you were doing business with a reputable person. “Yes, I assure you we do. All the animals here except for the fish are rescue or shelter animals. I can show you the paperwork if you need it.” You waved your hand, “That won’t be necessary, I believe you ma’am.”
You returned to Noelle’s side, where she was watching the rabbits in their pen. “They’re cute aren’t they?” You said from behind her shoulder, making her jump slightly. She instantly relaxed though and reached for your hand. “They’re adorable!” You could tell that she was resisting the urge to squeal, it was in the way she clenched her hands. You smiled and turned to face the counter, “May we pet them?” The owner nodded, “Yes, gently though. They scare easily.” You nodded in acknowledgement and Noelle gently reached down petting the rabbit with two fingers. She gasped and you looked at her worriedly, but her face melted into a smile. “It’s so soft.” She said softly.
Noelle turned to you, eyes lit up, “Do you think I could own a rabbit?” You thought for a moment, then frowned. “I’m not sure if that would be a good fit for you. Rabbits can die of shock from water and as a water mage that probably wouldn’t work out very well.” Noelle frowned, “I see…” You squeezed her hand, “Is there anything else that catches your eye?”
She looked around and her eyes lit up as something caught her eye. A flash of gold swimming around in a little bowl. “What is that?” You leaned over to see what she was looking at, and caught sight of a goldfish. “Oh! That’s a goldfish. From my experience they are relatively easy fish to take care of.” She clasped her hands together, seemingly entranced by the little fish. “Can I-?” She asked.
You nodded, “Yeah I think that could work! But be prepared to do water changes and clean the bowl, and feed it.” Noelle nodded enthusiastically. You gathered the necessary supplies and the two of you went up to the counter. After you checked out and were back in the forest once more, Noelle squealed with glee. “My first pet! I could kiss you right now.” You couldn’t help but smile, “I’d like that.” Noelle leaned in, and you kissed right above the fish bowl, it was a picture perfect moment, but nonetheless, if the fish could have rolled its eyes, it certainly would.

The object of her affection - chapter 4
Tumblr media
chapter 1 here
chapter 2 here
chapter 3 here
After two exhausting miles under the scorching july sun, Susan finally made it to the bus station. She dropped her luggage on the ground with a thump, and sat on a bench. Oscar woofed from inside the leather bag and stuck his little tongue out, his beady dark eyes begging for some refreshment. Susan pulled out a bottle of water and a bowl from one of the luggages. She took  Oscar out, and after she filled the bowl, he drank excitedly, wiggling his little tail left and right.
Tumblr media
According to the schedule on the far wall the next bus from New Haven to New Bedford, where the ferry would sail to, would be in another hour, at around twelve-thirty. She sat Oscar back inside his bag, pondering what to do in the meantime. She looked over at the cafe next to the tickets office, but she decided she was too nervous to eat. Besides, she had her own ration of food and drinks already. Noticing a newspaper on the other side of the bench, she picked it up, and began flipping through it without much interest. After having quickly exhausted her favorites - the Arts and Leisure, comics, and Lifestlye sections, she moved to the World news and Economics pages. Somewhere between the Irish General election, and Hindenburg accident consipracies, though, she began losing focus, and between the summer heat and her own exhaustion, she started dozing off. She would have fallen asleep like a log, If she hadn't been roused quite suddenly by the sound of tinkling brass bells, followed by a high-pitched squeal.
Susan shook herself out of her reverie just in time to see a tan colored shadow running away in the distance, skirting between a befuddled elder lady's legs to follow a tall man carrying a travel bag.
"Oscar!" She shrieked, dropping the newspaper on her lap to chase after her beloved pet. "Somebody stop that dog!"
She zig-zagged through the crowd, yelling to no avail. Oscar wouldn't listen, and the crowd even less so, everybody too busy getting to their destination to pick up the stray dog.
"Hey, you, Sir! Tall man with the bag! Stop!"
Susan continued her chase for what felt like a lifetime, but was probably a little more than a minute, until the man reached the platforms area, stopping in front of a shiny, green bus.
"You!" Susan mustered all the breath she had left, resting one hand on her left hip, and pointing her finger his direction.
He turned around, knitting a pair of sandy blonde brows that matched his wavy hair.
Susan drew out a breath, getting closer. "You know how long I've been following you?"
"Well, I can't say that I'm not flattered -" the man began speaking, before realizing that Susan wasn't talking to him, but to somebody else. A Somebody that at the momently was most definitely chewing on his bag.
"Hey, get off my bag!" he pulled the dog by his sides, trying to get his grip off the leather, only to get bitten in the process.
"Ow!" he yelped, retreating in defeat.
"I'll take care of it." Susan said matter-of-factly, before crouching down. "Oscar, be a good boy now. Get off the gentleman's bag and I will give you a big, fat, cookie, uh?" she said in a soft-spoken manner.
Oscar didn't budge.
"Fine, two. Last offer."
Oscar growled, slowly letting go of his grip. Susan picked him up and cradled him in his arms.
"Cheeky! How many times have I told you not to run away!" she admonished him.
"You oughta put him on a leash. It's not safe." the man spoke up, rubbing his hand.
"I could never do that to him," Susan said, petting Oscar tenderly, "he's meant to be free. I would be no less animal than him if I restricted him like that."
"He's an animal alright. Look what he did to my hand!" he raised the offended appendage. "Not to mention the bag."
The bag in question now sat on the concrete pavement, slighlty slumped on the side, a couple of bite marks evident in a corner dripping with dog drool.
Susan raised her eyes from the bag, taking a better look at the man. He couldn't have been more than twenty-five, and at least six foot two, if her estimation was right. With sandy blonde hair and blue eyes, he had the homely appearance of your typical corn-fed, all-american male you would see on advertisements. He could pass for handsome, she supposed, If you squinted your eyes, though he had nothing on Joseph. His jaw was too squared, his nose not aristocratic enough, his figure too broad. He lacked any kind of sophistication, in short.
"I don't know what's gotten into him." she explained, "He never behaved like this before. It must have been that bell on your bag that set him off. He's very sensitive to noises."
Tumblr media
"I suppose the biting is just a fun bonus." the man deadpanned.
Susan was about to retort, when something stopped her in her tracks.
"Mr. Murphy!" a male voice called from the bus.
Susan and the man turned around at the same time. An elderly gentleman sporting a bowler hat and monocle was peeking out of one of the bus' windows, a scowl on his face.
"Yes, sir?" Murphy replied.
"What's taking you so long? I don't have the whole day, young man! This bus is leaving in ten minutes."
"I'll be righ there, Mr. Sullivan." Murphy said, showing his pearly whites.
Mr. Sullivan retreated back into his seat, muttering to himself.
"So, that's not your bag." Susan winced.
Murphy shook his head. "No."
"Oh."
"You better hope Mr, Sullivan doesn't see that."
Susan tilted her head "It's not that visible."
"It's not not invisible, either."
Their conversation was interrupted once again by Mr. Sullivan, this time bangin out of the window with a cane.
"Hey! I'm not paying you to pick up dames! Let's go!"
"Yes, Mr. Sullivan." Murphy said, finally picking up the bag and stepping onto the bus.
Susan watched the window as the two men talked a bit inside the vehicle, before Murphy put the bag on the suitcase compartment.
"Did he notice?" she asked, once he was back.
"No, thank God, but he will soon. Let's go before he does." he took her by the arm and led her back inside the station. "By the way, where are your bags?"
Susan stopped in her tracks, her eyes widening in horror. "My bags! Oh, my God, I completely forgot about them! You don't suppose they got stolen while I was away?"
"I don't suppose. I know."
Susan sprinted away just as she did before, this time with Oscar safely tucked into her arms and Murphy following them in tow.
Just as she suspected, the bench where she had sat up until a few minutes before was now empty, save for the newspaper she had been reading and Oscar's tin bowl.
Susan dropped Oscar and sank on the bench, resting her elbows on her knees and holding her face with both hands. "This has to be the worst week of my life."
"Oh, cheer up." Murphy sat beside her ."Your life ain't half over yet. There might be worse weeks coming."
Susan turned around to face him, "You have a very twisted sense of humor, you know that?"
"But it keeps me going."
"You know, this is all your fault."
"Mine!?!"
"Yes," Susan poked him in the chest. "Yours. If you had just stopped the first time I called you -"
"Wait a minute! I though we already went over this! You left your dog without a leash. It's on you."
"But you held me up."
"Ever thought about getting a parakeet, or a nice goldfish?"
Susan arched an eyebrow in his direction."You like giving an awful lot of advice, for someone I don't even know."
"That's easily fixed." Murphy conceded, holding out his hand. "I'm Connor."
"Susan." she replied, but she didn't shake his hand. Instead she turned her head, looking around conspicously. "You think he's still here?"
"Who?"
"The gentleman who stole my bags."
"I'd hardly call him a gentleman. But, no. "
"That's just perfect. I got no money, no clothes. No dignity." Susan pouted.
"Say, where are you going?" Connor asked.
"Martha's Vineyard."
"I could give you a ride if you wanted."
Susan furrowed her brows. "Why?"
"I'm a taxi cab driver. I have to get the old clunker back in New Bedford – I can drop you at the port on my way."
"I could still go by bus, you know. I've got ..." she took out a few pennies out of her skirt pocket and began counting. "fifty cents."
"I hate to burst your bubble, but that will only cover you for the bus ride."
"Not if I can manage to pass myself off for a twelve years old."
Connor shook his head. "Would you really rather spend six hours on a smelly bus packed with sweaty European tourists, than spend three hours with me?"
"Three hours?"
"Hmm hmm. I can have you on that Ferry by four."
Susan pondered what do. The stakes were too high to hesitate. Oh, What the hell, If she had to hitch a ride to get to her destination as soon as possible, so be it. What was the worse that could have happened?
"We have a deal."
