If Sam Cortland Lived

In this au, I think Sam was still tortured. They never found his body, but Farran confessed to killing him and there was so much blood that nobody except for arobynn thought he survived

Celeana goes to Endovier, and Sam regains his strength in arobynns dungeon. He fights to get stronger so that he can break her out.

He tries, once. And realized he couldn't get to her. He spends literal months coming up with a plan to get her out

But alas, she is called to the champions tournament. He waits a few months to scope out the castle, to get a layout to rescue her

But she's happy. He sees that she has moved on from his 'death' and is flirting with Dorian. He's crushed and doesn't really know what to do with his life

Arobynn sends him on missions still, and is the only person who knows he's still alive. He becomes very depressed. About the time of Heir of Fire, he goes apeshit. He tries to kill Arobynn, and when he fails, he runs. He takes the hell off. His POV in the book is about him surviving and evading Arobynn. But he runs into some valg and we learn more about them in his POV.

Then in queen of shadows, Aelin has fallen for Rowan. The revolution is forming. Literally three days after killing Arobynn, Aelin feels like she's being hunted. She and Sam have a huge fight scene and then she realizes. Nobody else has this skill. Nobody else can tumble like that.

Cue an emotional reunion scene

Sam struggles because he very much still loves her. Aelin struggles because damn, she missed him. But she's moved on.

Sam learns to accept this and move on.

Magic falls and he learns he has powers. He can control the earth itself. Where Aelin is fire, he is earth. He helps take down the castle.

Empire of Storms, he rides with Aelin and the rest of her court into Terrassen, but then when they race to go to skulls Bay, he knows what he needs to do. He has to go to the southern continent and meet up with Nesryn and Chaol

He and Chaol do NOT like each other. They are just too similar.

He just loves the ruk riders! He and Sartaq become good friends. If it wasn't for his home being in Adarlan, he definitely would have stuck around.

When he gets back to Anielle with the others, he has a whole arc with his powers. He swallows half the army with his powers, and then gets gravely injured or something. Like half of KOA, he is unconscious.

I haven't read the other half yet but FEEL FREE TO ADD ON

It's so weird that El/riels are so stuck on the suppose 4 books of build up, claiming that Sarah wouldn't break up a ship that has been around for long.

As if Sarah didn't do that to Chaoleana, Samleana, Dorleana, Chaolsryn, Moriel, Feylin, Ruhn + Hypaxia etc. Like bro, she'd done that many times. If she wants to sink El/riel she will and it doesn't have to make sense to you if it doesn't.

Don't even get me started on "Gwyn is just a sidd character" "The other bat boys didn't get a book so why should Azriel" people. Yeah, it's not like Yrene didn't vanish after like one chapter in Assassin's blade and came back in CHAOL'S BOOK. That's were they met and they also ended up married at the end of the book and pregnant at the start of KOA. Gwyn and Azriel showed us far more than Yrene and Chaol before their book came out because Chaolryne legit hadn't met before. If Sarah can pull a simple side character that appeared like 6 books ago in 1 chapter and never came back, she can definitely introduce us to a new character and make her Azriel's endgame in the next book.

It's just deniel to say Elucien and Gwynriel have no chances of happening when those 2 ships have so many points that are similar to all the other endgame ships. You don't have to believe that they will end up together if you think El/riel makes more sense, but to say they have zero chances.. girl be serious.💀

That's the problem with it all. That even with examples from every other series and multiple other characters, E/riels still act like Gwynriel or Elucien aren't a possibility. Which is truly insane.

Mates disliking one another at first but getting their HEA together? There's precedence for that.

Females sleeping with another male despite being drawn to someone else and trying to ignore those feelings? There's precedence for that.

Characters not wanting a Mating Bond because it means giving up their humanity before they're ready? There's precedence for that.

Characters thinking they're in love or having feelings for one character while ending with another? There's precedence for that.

Characters getting a book despite never being introduced into the main series prior to that? There's precedence for that.

Characters having buildup in one book, ending up with them in another book yet still not ending up together by the end? There's precedence for that.

Characters acting like they're satisfied with where they're at in one book only to grow and change and realize their lives were meant to take them in a different direction? There's precedence for that.

It is INSANE and I truly mean that, to act like Elucien and Gwynriel aren't still a possibility based off the writing style of the author. Maybe they won't end up together, only SJM knows for sure, but it's really concerning that anyone would call us crazy for shipping those ship because they believe there is zero chance.

oh😅 some people won’t really like it

But in my opinion, Samleana isn’t worth the entire hype all over it?

Maybe my dislike was born from people saying that Sam was "Celaena’s mate", that Aelin would choose Sam over Rowan if Sam was still alive because that’s just… not true.

If Celeana was a person to herself, which she isn’t, she would be human. Without a mate. And if she did have a mate, as much as I hate that, it would be Chaol. In my opinion he is the only man, other than Rowan, that she truly loved.

I don’t think she really loved Sam. He showed her sympathy and a somewhat healthy interest after 8 years of her being groomed every single day, so she got interested in him. But I never felt… love? It was just, ‘oh, Sam likes me, I will kiss him’

She did not trust him for her secret identity (may I add that she trusted Chaol more with it even if he was still loyal to the King?), she never fully trusted him as a whole. He was there and I’m happy that Aelin had this little break from abuse, but there is no big love story

Also, I think it was @westofmoon who pointed that out, but Aelin has this little habit of only remembering the good things when someone she loved died. She never mentions again how Sam was also an asshole to her at the beginning (I don’t call him abusive or shit, just that he isn’t the little angel this fandom makes him?). She did the same with Nehemia, she never really got angry at how their friendship was a lie and she was manipulated.

I don’t hate their relationship or anything, the only relationship I dislike in the series was Chaolaena 😂 but it kind of annoys me when people make it look like Sam was the big love of Aelin’s life and she went for Rowan as a last chance for happiness because Sam was dead, that is so untrue and undermining of the true bond between Rowan and Aelin

Just because Aelin wondered at one point if Sam was her mate doesn’t make them soulmates or ‘right person, wrong time’. She also wondered if Chaol was her mate and it was two months before she went to Sam’s grave. Aelin needed that sense of belonging a mate bond would give her, that’s it. And Rowan was the one to give her that without even knowing and without a spoken mate bond
