wholesome headcanons (seijou edition)
kyoutani absolutely loves all types of animals
if someone needs to get ahold of kyoutani, their best bet is to start with animal pics
for all their insults and teasing, seijou is very protective of their captain and will fight a bitch for him (even the first years and kyoutani; especially iwaizumi)
one time one of the second or third years spotted him at the end of a crying session and they were ready to commit a war crime
praise from iwaizumi = the best thing you can ever get inside and outside the court and turns everyone into puppies wagging their tails and waiting for head-pats
even oikawa is aware of the power of iwaizumi’s praise
iwaizumi is not aware of the power of iwaizumi’s praise
kunimi is so perpetually tired so when a pillow found itself a home in the clubroom, nobody was surprised
kunimi is not the one who put it there but it’s got his name written on the tag, he doesn’t know who did it but he uses it consistently
watari is extremely chill. like he’s down for anything. chaos? sure. group nap? absolutely. beating someone up when they mess with kindaichi? why not. stealing someone’s dog? hell yeah
kindaichi is the baby of the group
pretty much everyone has the contact info for each member at oikawa’s persistence, so when mattsun & maki notice someone is having a rough day, they spam them with memes and aggressive praise
movie nights are a thing, at least every other week, typically at a third year’s house
everyone loves kindaichi’s mom
everyone loves kyoutani’s dad
oikawa’s nephew attends oikawa’s practice sometimes and iwaizumi knows that oikawa’s worried abt what takeru thinks of him, so he gets with the other third-years to makes sure to hype oikawa up and make sure he Looks Cool in front of takeru (complete with extra praise from yahaba)
watari regularly brings baked goodies to practice, he loves to bake and share
one time oikawa was having a bad day, so the next day watari brought milk bread per iwaizumi’s request
just. just non-toxic iwaoi and non-toxic seijou, okay
kyoutani has a pet snake named Honeycomb (any pet of Kyoutani’s has a cute name and yahaba thinks this is so hilarious and low-key adorable)
yahaba goes to oikawa for romantic advice (and for all his bravado and confidence, oikawa is secretly touched and gives him genuine advice)
yahaba goes out of his way to make sure yachi gets an apology from what happened during the warm-ups for their match in s2
any requests for different pairings/teams?? sibling relationships?? let me know!! here’s the karasuno edition!

A/n: Uhm, hi. This is my first post, I have no idea what I'm doing but enjoy! Oh, and you can call me Katena or Kat!
Summary: You're a manager of the Karasuno Volleyball Club. You've just returned home from a hard day of matches against Johzenji and Wakunan and your boyfriend Kageyama Tobio is exhausted and in need of some loving. -> just cute fluff and caring for your bf
~
Tobio got off the bus with a heavy yawn.
Once everybody had assembled, Ukai-kun took the word. "No post-match meeting today, you need all the energy you can get for Seijou and Shiratorizawa tomorrow."
We said our goodbyes and all dispersed on our ways home.
"Do you want to sleep at my place tonight? It's closer." I asked Tobio.
"Mhm." He hummed in agreement, looking at me with tired eyes and I smiled again. "Let's go."
The way to the dorms was less than a two minute walk, though the many stairs to my room still posed as an obstacle which I had to help my boyfriend overcome, taking his bag and pulling him up the stairs about halfway through.
When we reached my dorm and I closed the door behind us, Tobio pushed off his shoes and I put them on the rack alongside mine.
"Do you want to take another shower?"
"No, already did at the gym." He moved toward the bed.
"You have to eat something babe." I put his bag on the floor and took off my jacket.
A disagreeing hum was all I got as an answer.
I sighed. "Fine, but you'll eat a proper breakfast in the morning."
Tobio dropped himself face first into the bed, giving me another hum of agreement through the blanket.
I couldn't help but chuckle as I grabbed a glass from the kitchen cabinet and filled it with water. He was so cute, completley exhausted and too tired to even speak.
After adding a bit of citrus juice, I brought it to the bed, reaching over Tobio to place it on the windowsill.
"Scoot over a little, baby."
The setter rolled on his side to face me and I laid down next to him. "I brought you some water."
He turned to the glass before taking two big sips from it. Then he wrapped his arms around me and pulled himself closer, so that his upper body was resting on my chest. My hands instinctively found their way to his hair, gently running my fingers through and massaging his scalp.
A heavy sigh left him and he melted even deeper into me.
His breathing became steady and deep, his eyes closed the moment he felt my touch.
After a while of caressing his head, I moved my hands down to slip under his beige sweater I loved so much and began trailing my fingers across his bare back.
He hummed in pleasure and I continued ever so gently massaging his back.
"I love you..." It was muffled and quiet but I understood as he placed a kiss on my chest, which I returned with a kiss on his head. "I love you too Tobio."
It took only a few more seconds until he'd fully passed out. I joined him in his dreams not long after.

You bounced the ball in frustration after Karasuno lost to Seijou. The third years thought they were going to be at the Spring Tournament but Karasuno lost so they haven’t dropped by the 2nd gymnasium. You, along with your fellow first years and second years, are anxious whether they’d stay in the club. Truth is, you have this fear of getting hit by a ball ever since a dodgeball game back in elementary. You ended up going home with tissues shoved in your nostrils because of a nose bleed.
Ever since joining the club though, you got a bit braver. Maybe it’s the thing cloying at your chest, your pitiful unrequited crush on Tsukishima, or the fact Karasuno failed to participate in the Spring tournament, you thought maybe getting hit by the ball in the face isn’t so bad anymore.
“Oi.”
You bounce the ball harder.
“Mascot.”
Speak of the devil, you catch the ball and cradled it with one arm on your hip as you turn around. “What?”
“School’s over.”
“I know.”
“Why’re you still here?”
“I’m joining the girl’s volleyball club, haven’t you heard?”
“As a mascot?”
You roll your eyes. “As the club advisor.” Your voice dripped in sarcasm.
He gestures for you to toss the ball at him and before you knew it, you and Tsukishima volley the ball to each other back and forth.
“You’re leaving too?”
“I’m not leaving. And don’t say that, our senpais could change their minds. There’s no way they could just leave the club without giving their all. It’s not fair. Nishinoya-senpai has a whole lot more to offer. Kageyama could learn a lot from Suga-senpai’s leadership skills. I won’t let them quit the club, I’ll camp Suga-senpai’s class room and convince them to stay.”
“Why Suga-senpai?”
You make a noise of frustration when your receive made the ball too high up. Tsukishima jumps a little and makes a passable toss at you. “I never realized how much Suga-senpai has influence on the whole club until the match against Seijou. Not to mention, he was cool, I kept looking over him and he was so impressive. I also want to wipe Seijou’s ball captain to the floor. He was so smug, but I guess with his skill, he should be smug about it. Still, Suga-senpai is the best.”
Tsukishima makes a wolf whistle, “The mascot and our captain: a shoujo manga, huh?”
His teasing pissed you off, so you attempted to perform a spike which he easily caught. “I don’t have a crush on Suga-senpai.”
He pushed his glasses up. “So you say.”
“So you say.” You mocked. “You’re so annoying. Why am I even talking to you? I like the moon, alright?”
“The moon?”
You give him a firm nod. “I like the moon.” Kami-sama, was Tsuki dense.
“You’re so weird.”
You shrugged and walk away. “So you say. Kageyama and Hinata’ll be here soon. You should practice with them. They’re frustrated too.”
---
“Why did you turn down Hinata and Kageyama’s request?”
Tsukishima pointedly ignored your question as he sipped on his orange juice.
“You know because you turned them down, Yachi offered to tutor them?”
He gives you a stoic stare, sipping still. “And your point is?”
“Because instead of annoying me during class breaks, you could be with Yachi tutoring them.” You push his head away from your desk. “Go away, I need to write some mock quizzes.”
“What, you need help with your grades too?”
“I’m not smart.” You chewed your bottom lip nervously. “So I need to study. I retain memory better when I do it this way. Plus, maybe Kageyama and Hinata are the same. I can give this to them when I’m done.”
His eyes soften at that and then he pats your head. “You’re a good kid, aren’t you?”
Your cheeks turned hot in a second. “Yeah, yeah.”
---
‘I like the moon.’
You screamed into your pillow.
Really? Did you really say that? You like the moon? You could do better than that!
You kicked your feet in rapid motions like you do when you swam as a kid. The embarrassment was unbearable.
Could you really be more obvious than that?
‘I like the moon.’
Suki. Like. Suki. Moon. Tsuki. Tsukishima.
‘I like the moon.’
‘I like Tsuki.’
‘I like you, damn four-eyes.’
You wish you could shut your brain off.
---
You stare at the poster Yachi did for the club and a wave of envy washed over you, the next you felt guilt and ashamed for feeling that way. Yachi’s cute. Yachi’s talented. Yachi’s nice. A second “Small Giant.” It was a picture of Hinata doing his jump spike. The crows soar toward the nationals once more. Donations received will be used for: away games, training camp, travel expenses, food expenses, and lodging expenses. For information, contact Karasuno High School boys’ volleyball club faculty advisor Takeda.  It was a poster asking for donations. This was a whole lot more useful and impressive than you being a mascot. You suddenly feel like an idiot. This is amazing for the club, right? So how come you feel so much worse?
Tears pooled at the corner of your eyes and your lips trembled. You let out a small hiss to reprimand yourself. No wonder Tsukishima likes her. You don’t think you have it in you to attend club that day.
Tumblr media
This is ridiculous, you’re being weird. Be happy for the club.
---
AN: Legit winging this. Don’t  have any plans for this but let the writing gods and idea gods to take the wheel and possess me for more parts I guess

Chronicles of Aoba Johsai’s Manager part 1
Tumblr media
I FELT THE URGE TO WRITE AGAIN- so here we go with a new series!! ahhh i’m so excited mainly because i’ve been having aoba johsai brainrot :D also i’m sorry this is so long i forgot how to add a cut into my posts… hehe
pairings: aoba johsai x female!reader
Tumblr media
The boys volleyball club at aoba johsai high school were desperate for a manager
it was very tiring having to do all the tasks a manager was supposed to do. it was easy enough to fill water bottles but taking stats? making snacks? the boys had no experience or time to do any of that.
which is why when word circled around the school into the ears of both Yahaba and Kindaichi that a new second year girl transferred into school the two of them RAN their extremely long legs over to the club room after school
here was their chance to have a manager that didn’t give a shit about oikawa because (hopefully) she didn’t know who he was.
the other members of seijou were all on board with the idea and thus a new task was created: recruiting
oikawa immediately suggested that he goes up to the prospect and seduces her into joining the club as manager however he was shut down by the ENTIRE team. they reasoned that you wouldn’t want to accept the offer if it was offered to you by someone who was still injured
he went and sulked in a corner
eventually the team decided on iwaizumi to recruit their future manager as he seemed to be the most responsible and an upperclassman
however the team failed to think of where to find the girl they were looking for and this left iwaizumi with nothing to look for besides a second year girl. a needle in a pile of other needles if you will.
by complete and utter chance you are a very smart person and are taking a corse meant for third years as a second year. this course is one that iwaizumi also signed up for and his eyes BUGGED out of his head when his teacher called you up to the front to introduce yourself
as luck would have it there was an empty seat RIGHT next to him that his teacher told you to sit at
iwaizumi couldn’t believe his luck but then he realized he was supposed to ask you, this mf beauty of a stranger, to join his club after meeting you .03 second ago
then he saw your backpack. your backpack FULL of volleyball keychains and tags from tournaments
and so after class he stopped you from leaving a stuttered out the words “you manager volleyball my club”
smooth iwa. real smooth.
you laughed it off and said that you were actually on your way to ask his club if they needed a manger
the rest of the team was waiting anxiously in the gym for iwaizumi’s arrival and the entire gym erupted into chaos when iwaizumi shows up with you behind him
Tumblr media
ahhh ok first part done! next time i think i’ll do introductions and the first practice? so many ideas only two thumbs..
chronicles of nekoma’s manager!!
masterlist!!

hc of surprising iwaizumi , kuroo and sugawara at their volleyball practice and the reader is from another school?? and their teams dk that the guys are dating someone and their reactions to the reader 🤩 thank you
This is the cutest thing!!! Hehe I loooove incorporating the teams into requests, it’s always so fun. Alsooo I realized after writing it that I made it so the teams already know of you, so it’s just a tiny bit different from your request.
-
IWAIZUMI HAJIME
The train station where you arrive in Miyagi is so close to Seijou, and you know that Iwaizumi will still be in practice, so you figure it’s the perfect opportunity to meet his teammates he always talks so much about
You end up wandering around a bit until a straggling student points you in the direction of the gym, and you can hear the voices and the sounds of practice before you even open the door - suddenly you’re second guessing your decision but it’s too late to back out now
No one notices you at first, but you immediately find Iwaizumi in the group and you can’t help but smile - it’s been so long since you’ve actually seen him in person and you’re just trying to decide whether you should run to throw your arms around him sweat and all when someone else notices you
“Hi there! You looking for someone?” The one who can only be Oikawa lifts his hand above his head in a wave, flashing you a wide smile, when Iwaizumi looks up and practically chokes
“Y/N, what are you doing here?” He sputters out, looking at you like he can’t quite believe you’re actually there, still rooted to his spot
“Wait, Y/N?” Oikawa jabs Iwaizumi in the side with his finger, and that quickly a murmur sweeps through the team, who are suddenly looking at you with supreme interest. “The Y/N?”
“Hi, Hajime,” You say sheepishly, and the sound of your voice finally sets him into motion and he jogs across the gym to you and wraps you up in a giant hug, you have a hunch that he’s also trying to shield you from the curiosity and prying eyes of his teammates
“What are you doing here?” He asks as the rest of the team starts to gather around the two of you, clamoring to be introduced to you, or at the very least get a good look at you. Iwaizumi is hovering very close by your side
“I got here early, and, well, I wanted to meet the team you talk so much about,” You admit as you look around, trying to put faces to names - ”That’s so cute, Iwaizumi, you talk about us?” “Shut up” “Does he talk to you that way, too, Y/N-chan?”
Basically Iwaizumi can only stand by in mild horror as you bond with the rest of his team about what a “brute” he is (it’s all in good fun, of course), even though he’s secretly tickled that you’re getting along with them so easily
KUROO TETSUROU
“You should come check out one of our volleyball practices sometime” You’re not sure if Kuroo had been completely serious about it, but you can’t quite believe that the serious, dedicated team you always see on the court is the same one Kuroo is always telling you the most hilarious stories about, so you have to see for yourself
You’re just about ready to open the gym door when you hear Kuroo start talking and you hesitate just long enough to hear the beginnings of his “We are the blood in our veins...” speech. You shake your head even though you can’t help but smile - What a dork.
When you open the gym doors, the team is all huddled in a circle, but the moment they hear the door slam shut, every single head turns in your direction
“Y/N?” “Tetsu!” Very few things can actually stop him mid-speech but you just so happen to be one of them - he squeezes out of the huddle and meets you halfway across the gym, lifting you off your feet in a tight hug before he sets you back down and just grins at you
“Hi!” The tall gangly boy who appears behind Kuroo can only be Lev, “Yaku-san said he wasn’t convinced you’re real, but you must be, because you’re here! OW!” The swift kick could only have been delivered by said Yaku, and you stifle a giggle behind your hand at the glare Kuroo shoots his way
“Blink twice if he’s keeping you against your will,” Yaku deadpans, then smiles and holds out his hand for you to shake, “I’m joking,” He pauses, “Kinda. I’m Yaku Morisuke, It’s nice to meet you”
Just like that, the floodgates open, and one after another you make the acquaintance of the rest of the members of Nekoma volleyball club - even Kenma, who you’ve met before, offers you a small smile and wave
“Alright, that’s enough of that,” Kuroo finally herds them away from you and shows you to a spot on the bench so you can watch the rest of practice
“You’re not allowed to come to practice anymore, you distract the guys too much,” He says afterwards, grabbing your hand as you’re walking to his house
“The guys?” You giggle and quirk your head to give him an incredulous look. “Yeah,” He nods stubbornly, but he pulls you just a little closer to him.
SUGAWARA KOUSHI
You can hear Karasuno’s volleyball practice well before you even reach the gym doors - Suga said they were a lively bunch this year, and he wasn’t kidding. You’re actually quite curious to meet this team your boyfriend is so proud of.
When you open the door, the lively chatter makes it so that very few people even notice you’ve come in - you spot your boyfriend across the room in the middle of a conversation with a freckled first year, and recognize the perfect opportunity presented to you
As you make your way through the gym, you’re noticed here and there, but you just put your finger to your lips, and to your delight they all play along right to the moment you come up behind him
“Koushi!” You shout right as you jump on his back, and the shriek he lets out has them all practically doubled over in laughter as he whips around, immediately hugging you tightly to him when he realizes it’s you
“No way, you’re Y/N!! I knew you looked familiar!” Crows an orange-headed first year who can only be Hinata, reaching in and shaking your hand emphatically
“It’s an honor to meet you, you’re even cuter than your photos y’know” “It’s truly unfair that Suga-san got an s/o before I did” “Please ignore them,” And just like that, you’ve met three of the second years
“I’m sorry,” Suga says then, tugging you partially behind him, “They’re a lot,” but all you can do is laugh because they’re just exactly what you’d imagined them to be like
“I think I love them already,” You chuckle, and you can see the relief on his face
The introductions and excited, overlapping conversation last until Daichi finally claps his hands together and declares that everyone needs to get back to practicing now, and you’re impressed by how quickly the mood shifts
For the rest of practice, you’re half-convinced that most of them are showing off just for you, because they keep glancing your way after making an impressive play, so of course you have to cheer for them
As they’re leaving, Hinata tells you that you should “totally come to practice more often,” and Suga rests his chin on your shoulder, “I agree,” He grins before pressing a kiss to your cheek

an absolutely massive Haikyuu!! fic rec pt. 2
IwaOi this time around. My favorite ship. The world’s favorite ship...there’s so many
Undecipherable, by ioo (4k. G. canonverse)
I’m pretty sure the author meant ‘indecipherable’, nevertheless! I am appalled that this work doesnt have more hits. Y'all are sleeping on it and that's not okay.
The sound of the door slamming against the wall has Hajime startling back to the present. He looks at the source of the disturbance and finds himself face to face with Oikawa, red in the face with breathlessness and a leather-bound notebook tightly clutched in both of this hands. When he spots Hajime, he makes a beeline for the bench and slaps it down right next to him.
"Koi no yokan," he says. "The sense one can have upon first meeting a person that the two of you are going to fall in love."
primavera, by tothemoon (8k. T. canonverse)
All of tothemoon’s works read so beautifully
They say it takes twenty-six years, for certain breeds to fully bloom.
Learning to Walk (So That We Can Run), by ricekrispyjoints (27k. M. canon-divergence)
I've read this work so many times. Like, so many times and I’ve never tired from it. Gorgeous. The shift from friendship to romance felt so natural, love it.
"I'm not healing like I should be."
In his second year of university, physical therapy just isn't cutting it. Oikawa's knee is getting worse, and he can't hide it anymore.
Or: the light angst, project-your-own-life-experiences-on-Oikawa knee surgery fic you didn't know you wanted.
Priorities, by weirdmilk (2k. T. canonverse)
Kissy, kissy.
‘I just -’ Oikawa begins, ‘it might be difficult to get married, sometimes, I think.’ He chews on his lip.
Iwaizumi makes a questioning noise.
‘Ah,’ Oikawa says, and then, in a rush, ‘if I didn't want a wife at all - what then? If I said that to you. If I told you I can’t see it. Like - the wedding dress. The bride. I just can’t see it.’
Iwaizumi swallows again, his heart beating much faster than the conversation warrants. He wonders whether Oikawa can hear it. ‘You’re eighteen. You aren’t supposed to see it yet.’ He snorts. ‘I mean - if we’re sharing shit, I’ve never even kissed a girl.’ He doesn’t mind admitting it. It’s not something that bothers him - he’s never prioritised girls very highly, and despite Oikawa’s largely undeserved status as Miyagi’s most eligible teenage bachelor, he doesn’t think Oikawa has ever wanted a serious relationship with any of his fan club, either.
Oikawa and Iwaizumi can't sleep before their first practice match with Karasuno.
Before Midnight, by fathomfive (2k. G. canonverse)
Reads like a fairytale.
The sky turns, the seasons turn over, and Iwaizumi and Oikawa track the movements of the stars. Nothing is ever quite constant, but it's close enough.
The grass is stiff with frost. They walk in silence past the raked-over vegetable garden and up the back hill, footsteps crackling, and stand side-by-side at the top of an incline that used to seem much bigger. Iwaizumi glances over but Oikawa’s already gone, eyes searching the sky with no hint of hurry, just a kind of reverent patience.
make a bet, keep a promise, by raewrites (13k. M. canonverse)
Bet still on.
Sometimes, in still moments, Iwaizumi wonders why out of all the people on earth he ended up with Oikawa Tooru. Why it’s his face that lingers on his fading conscious in the last moments before he falls asleep, in the first blurry seconds upon waking up again. Why when he looks to his side, he expects Oikawa to be there in the same way he expects to see five fingers on both hands, a natural extension of himself, ever present.
Why he can’t imagine a future without Oikawa in it.
It begins with a bet made between the two boys in the mid-summer of their eighth year. It starts with volleyball, but like with most things involving Oikawa Tooru and Iwaizumi Hajime, things are never quite that simple.
our hearts still beat the same, by knightswatch
two birds, by thelittlebirdthattoldyou (5k. T. canonverse)
Of heartbreaking letters and paper crane wishes.
Five months into the term, two months after he’s stopped replying to Oikawa’s texts, the first package arrives. A small square box, wrapped in brown paper and tied with string, and Hajime almost trips over it on the way to his dorm.
There’s a letter attached.
Oikawa doesn’t know how many times he’ll have to put his feelings down on paper before Iwaizumi believes them.
Through My Eyes, by anchoringsouls (2k. G. canonverse)
Okay! Okay, we were doing great with the soft, happy love up until the last part! That's great, just great!
“I think if you ever saw yourself through my eyes, you would fall in love with yourself the same way the way I did with you.”
in time it could be ours, by deusreks (3k. T. canonverse)
Anyone wanna go back in time and make a time capsule with me only to dig it up years later and we’re actually in love?
Set post Seijou's match with Karasuno. There's a moderate amount of rolling in the dirt. No pajamas were hurt in the writing of this fic.
There, in their joint backyard, was Oikawa Tooru, clad in his silly luminescent space pajamas, digging a hole near a cherry tree.
“What the hell, Oikawa.”
Tooru stubbornly continued digging. He looked pitiful in that moment; everything that was grand about him in daylight was meaningless in the darkness. He was only a boy with a shovel whose broken heart mirrored Hajime’s own.
we can do better than that, by spaceburgers (16k. M. canonverse)
Of course, of course, the IwaOi road trip fic. AnD thErE wAs ONly OnE bED!
Oikawa and Iwaizumi go on a road trip during the summer after their high school graduation. It doesn't go as expected, but maybe that's not such a bad thing after all.
They Say it Rains Diamonds on Jupiter, by exsao (35k. T. canonverse)
I don't know, just gorgeous. Hajime’s so in love.
"You're in love with him."
Hajime considers denying it. He considers deliberately choking on his drink to express surprise, to create a distraction by spitting onto the man in front of him's pristine white shirt and causing a commotion. Instead, he swallows his mouthful of soda and heaves a small sigh once his mouth is free.
"Yeah," he says instead.
He's never been good at lying, anyway.
Midnight boys/sunset town, by carafin (10k words. T. Housemates AU):
The author says they played off of the fact that Oikawa oftentimes forgoes his sleep in order to work, and wrote it so that he doesn't sleep at all. This was so cute, kinda sad, mostly not. Love how Iwaizumi just goes along with whatever crazy stilch Oikawa is on.
In which Iwaizumi Hajime grows a few chili plants, participates in an eating contest, breaks into a park, and falls in love with a man who doesn't ever sleep - not exactly in that order.
5 Reasons Why Iwaizumi Hajime's Flatmate Is A Complete Weirdo (An Incomplete List)
1. He's obsessed with that stupid bucket list of his.
2. He's the proud owner of seven truly ugly, criminally hideous movie posters with aliens on them, which he insists on pasting all over the damn living room.
3. He's always stealing Hajime's sweatshirts.
4. Sometimes, he wakes Hajime up for breakfast. At 5AM. On Saturday mornings.
5. He literally never, ever sleeps.
The Best I Ever Had, by FindingSchmomo (62k words. T. Canon-divergent):
You’ve read it, your mum’s read it, your dog has probably read it (you really need to take facial recognition for him off your phone, he’s got some weird nighttime habits). So basically this fic caused me physical pain and then pumped me full of morphine and now I’m good! Beautiful read, hated Oikawa for a while, Iwaizumi is the only boy I would ever feel safe alone with.
A story of separation and time lost. Oikawa and Iwaizumi lose contact, and life goes on. Now, a decade later and back in Japan, Oikawa wonders if he can pick the pieces back together, despite knowing Iwaizumi has moved on. A story of their past, present and future, pieced together by shaky hands.
darlin', your head's not on right, by aruariandance (13k words. T. canonverse)
Again, I’m pretty sure anybody who's anybody has read this fic and for good reason! Super sweet realizing you're in love fic. Makes me reconsider wanting to get married.
'“Our wedding,” Oikawa says by way of explanation, tapping his finger against his magazine more emphatically. “What colors should we use? Color scheme is important, apparently.”
Iwaizumi feels his lifespan shortening.
“I was thinking our Aoba johsai colors to go for more, you know, softer tones? Besides, I’ve always looked great in that sea foam green color. Oh, and I guess you look decent in it, too.” He grins, saccharine sweet, and Iwaizumi has never been so tempted to knock one of his perfect pearly white teeth right out of his stupid mouth."
or,
Oikawa teases Iwaizumi about a childhood promise he made to marry him when they were older, except suddenly it's not really a joke at all.
the courtship ritual of the hercules beetle, by kittebasu (66k. T. canon divergent)
Is this one of the most famous Iwaoi fic? I don’t know. Looks like it, I know it's my personal favorite. Where Oikawa studies bugs for a living and can’t seem to come to terms with his feelings. Very angsty, love that in a fic.
Tooru is pretty sure he could manage the mating habits of a mosquito. It’s the mating habits of people he can’t seem to get right.
 Terrarium, by sausaged (11k. T. Post-canon)
Honestly, I’m so surprised this fic doesnt have more hits! It’s so good! Made me ache! I love the memories and character growth shown through the growing of the terrarium, absolutely adore that kind of symbolism. So beautiful, give it some love because it's one of my absolute favorites.
He's practically a professional at being proactive (lies, lies, and lies when it comes to Iwaizumi).
At this point, is he really happy with just staying best friends forever? Will he be writing journals and collecting rocks forever (he will, he knows, but that is aside from the point)?
Can he really tag his Instagram photos with #YOLO if he doesn't actually put that phrase into practice?
A story about Oikawa Tooru, Iwaizumi Hajime, plants, and rocks.
Lips like sugar, by ohhotlamb (8k. T. canonverse)
Why did my childhood best friend never offer to help me practice kissing only for us to realize we were only interested in each other? I had a fake high school experience.
Hajime is offered to learn the art of kissing from a true professional, one Oikawa Tooru. It's not as bad as he thought it would be.
Falling Slowly, by bravely (commovente) (3k. T. canonverse)
So special, imagine loving one person, and one person only like this for the entirety of your life. This is getting too sappy, I want off of this ride.
over the years, some things change; but over the years, some things stay mostly the same.
(alternatively, mornings with oikawa and iwaizumi over the years).
No sleep in the city, by loveclouds (7k. T. canonverse)
Mass/volume = Iwaizumi, apparently. (Please. If anyone gets this absolutely horrific joke, lets elope).
Along their journey to find Tokyo's best ramen, Iwaizumi finds himself asked again and again why Oikawa is still single.
Time, by surveycorpsjean (5k. E. canonverse)
Growing older together.
When they're twenty-three, their story only begins.
Everything With You, by Ellessey (14k. E. canonverse)
Came damn near to crying, you can just feel Iwaizumi’s pain. Fight scene was probably the most emotion evoking one I’ve read in a long while.
‘Hajime still loves Oikawa, but he understands now. Oikawa can't look at him and see someone he could potentially date.
And that makes it easier to not focus on the little things that used to drive him crazy—Oikawa's long legs, the way he's always hanging off of Hajime, how his whole face changes when he gets ready for a jump serve, and he looks like he could take on the entire world and win.
This new arrangement though, this living together situation, is presenting a new set of variables that must be adjusted to, and the nakedness is one of them.’
--
For years, being Oikawa’s best friend has worked out fine. Hajime is hopelessly in love with him, but it’s enough. Then Oikawa—who, by all accounts, has never been anything but determinedly, assuredly straight—gets a boyfriend. Or a boy friend-with-benefits. Hajime doesn’t know, and he doesn’t give a shit about the definition.
What he knows is that remaining best friends is starting to seem a bit too painful (way too painful) to be considered a solid option.
The Best Best, by rikke (12k. T. canonverse/future fic)
Takeru is a whole mood. Don’t want kids, but I do want domesticity and this fic feeds me well.
“Congratulations, Iwa-chan! You’re a dad!” Iwaizumi hears as soon as the door opens. He’s dealt with Oikawa for all of his twenty-one years of age now, but this declaration is still sufficiently disturbing enough that he turns from his place on the couch and braces himself for whatever Oikawa has done this time.
Or the one where Iwaizumi and Oikawa babysit Takeru for a week.
cheek kisses, by ohhotlamb (G. 3k. Future fic)
Sooo cute!!
“Every time,” Hajime murmurs, “every time I see you again I remember how fuckin’ crazy I am about you.”
Routine, by snoqualmie  (2k. T. canonverse)
Again, anyone wanna be my childhood best friend so we can put face masks on each other and fall in love? I died, truly.
Iwaizumi is fourteen years old, horny too often and angry all the time, and he’s just starting to notice that Tooru’s legs are really long, that his lips are kinda soft looking, and his fingers feel good pressed under his jaw.
Thirty Years and Change (the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, by sunsmasher (19k. G. canon divergence)
Be wary, I would give this fic an upper rating to probably Teen and the follow-up fic is Explicit. But, Oikawa on the Japanese national team is just a dream as is, but add in a rekindling friendship and an angsty make out sesh? Mwah, delizioso.
It’s July 10th, 2024, and Oikawa Tooru is an Olympian. His smiling face airs on an NHK promo every 45 seconds. He’s captain of the national men’s volleyball team, reigning star of the professional leagues, and he hasn't spoken to Iwaizumi Hajime in two years.
He has, however, sent Iwaizumi tickets for the 2024 Los Angeles Summer Games.
“So go,” says Matsukawa's voice. “It’s only a few weeks. You’ve got a whole city to hide in if it gets awkward, and if it doesn’t get awkward, well…”
It’s like watching the future reconfigure, like being in high school again, watching team after team fall to Oikawa’s faultless planning and shameless charm.
“I’ll get to watch a whole lot of volleyball,” Hajime says, and resigns himself to fate and/or Oikawa Tooru.
“Hey, when you get there, can you bag a gymnast for me?” Hanamaki asks, and Matsukawa squawks.
Chasing Paper Suns, by carafin (10k. T. Future fic)
Again with the growing up and coming back together, this time with more angst than the last. Lovely, really lovely read.
Post-high school, Oikawa makes it to the national volleyball team but Iwaizumi doesn't. The next three years become an exercise in growing up without growing apart.
Some days Hajime likes to think of himself as Oikawa’s counterpart—the two of them blending into a single devastating unit, the invincible setter and his unyielding ace, the bond between them unbreakable and true. Other days he feels like he is chasing after a rising sun, always running and running with his eyes fixed on the distance, trying to cross a chasm that stretches on without end, caught in an endless and exhausting pursuit.
the yellow room, by ohhotlamb (14k. T. canonverse/future fic)
Makki and Mattsun see bullshit and call you out on your bullshit.
“I told you, we broke up like six months ago. We’re not dating anymore.”
Hanamaki eyes him suspiciously. “You live together.”
“Yeah, so?”
“There are pictures of you two kissing stuck to your refrigerator.”
Hajime shrugs. “That wasn’t my idea. Anyways, they’re good pictures. Good lighting.”
the river runs, by tothemoon (11k. T. post-breakup)
My heart ACHES. Happy ending, promise! Just read it.
One year since their breakup, Oikawa Tooru starts a list of daily reminders, tips, and tricks called HOW TO FORGET ABOUT IWAIZUMI HAJIME, and he’s determined to make it stick.
This is a firsthand account of how to deal (and rather spectacularly, at that).
I sure hope that guy gets fired, by Xov (29k. T. canonverse/time loop au)
The only thing better than one confession, is MULTIPLE confessions. Oikawa trusts Iwaizumi unshakably, and that's beautiful.
It was the fourth time experiencing the exact same day that Iwaizumi Hajime reluctantly admitted to himself that something was very wrong.
my only friend was the man in the moon (until i met you), by ohhotlamb (7k. T. canonverse)
Just so innocent and sweet. Oikawa said ‘effort’.
In which Oikawa has a life-altering revelation, and Hajime is starting to think it involves him.
Bet On It, by originalblue (13k. E. canonverse)
Tooru being nice for a week? That can only end one way… with a d*ck in Hajime’s mouth.
Hajime knows exactly how shitty Oikawa's personality is, and has no scruples whatsover about betting Oikawa six thousand yen that he can't be nice for an entire week.
especially for tender ones like us, by viverella (17k. T. canonverse/post break-up)
Gods! See? See what I mean? How could I forget about a work as heart wrenchingly beautiful as this? Give it some love, actually, all of the love.
The worst part of it all, Tooru thinks to himself sometimes, is that even as they fought and kicked and screamed and tore each other to shreds, it was never that Tooru stopped loving Iwaizumi any less. The worst part of it all, he thinks, is that loving Iwaizumi turned out to not be enough.

 sunset town, by skiecas (33k. T. canon-divergent)
Another work that I just CANNOT understand why it doesn't have more hits. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. I almost cried.
In the summer of 2020, Oikawa Tooru returns home from his first successful stint as captain of Japan’s national volleyball team. In one hand, he holds the undisputed weight of an Olympic medal, and in the other, his unresolved feelings for a childhood best friend.
Two years down the road, reconciling his lifelong dream with his lifelong love proves to be the greatest challenge.
of odd numbers and intimate regrets, by bravely (commovente) (5k. T. post-canon/one night stand au)
Basically, Tooru and Hajime sleep together after not speaking for seven years and of course there’s feelings and angst and a belated chance at happiness and a life together.
Tooru’s spent the last seven years of his life in a carefully constructed schedule that is, he realises now, as much a habit as it was a way to forget about the person in front of him.
[or, the one night stand AU between two people more than friends but not quite lovers, measuring the passage of time in distance and long-gone memories, the expansion and contraction of the spaces between their fingers each time.]
cross my heart, open wide, by acchikocchi (7k. T. canonverse)
Super cute, super short. Realizing you're on a date with the wrong person one-shot.
For a minute Hajime doesn't know what to say. Everything and nothing crowds his mind, leaving no room to think. That he's never tried this. That volleyball's over. That he's graduating in five months. That it would be really nice, at least once, to go on a date with a good-looking guy.
Hajime goes on a date. It's not with Oikawa.
Fernweh, by oikawashoyo (19k. G. canonverse/post time skip)
A mature(ish) Tooru?? I love works that show Tooru growing and living happily in Argentina and this one is just beautiful. (Plus! Plus, Skai did a piece on it as well and I love ALL their work so you can visualize everything). Love it.
Argentina is stretching out before him, an opportunity, a challenge. He is reminded of his losses, his insecurities, his disappointments; sees them form a tall, tall wall blocking his path to success. He takes a deep breath and knows he is going to shatter it.
In which Oikawa's whole life is spent longing for the horizon — in the form of a dream, a home, and a boy.
i breathe easily in your arms, by orphan_account (2k. M. canonverse)
Soft, soft sex
When, after completing their high school graduation ceremony and heading home to enjoy their freedom, Oikawa had pulled him into his room and pressed his lips hesitantly against Iwaizumi’s own, it seemed an inevitable development in the unfolding narrative of their shared existence.
Despite years of having a bed to himself, the sensation of another body taking up space in his sheets, curling against his chest, creating warmth, feels natural in much the same way.
old and new, by Mysecretfanmoments (5k. T. canon divergence)
Finally a fic where they don't freak out on confession and it's sweet.
“You seem—sad.” Was that the right word? Others sprang to mind: desperate, lonely, anxious.
Tooru looked away. “Are you going to make me say it?”
“Say what?”
Tooru folded his arms, sighed. “I missed you, of course.”
Hajime swallowed.
“No need to look that way. I told you, I’m not one of your macho man buddies. I’m allowed to say stuff like that without being embarrassed—”
“You’re being ridiculous,” Hajime complained. “No need to be so defensive. I’ve missed you too.”
“Oh?” Tooru seemed to get a little of his own back, leaning forward on his elbows. “What about me did you miss?”
((Going to separate universities, Hajime and Tooru learn the true meaning of "distance makes the heart grow fonder"))

This was more emotional than I thought a 6k friends with benefits fic could be, okay? Okay.
Wherein Hajime and Tooru are fuck buddies, Hajime curses his treacherous heart, and Tooru is bad with feelings.
we shine like diamonds, by whitemiists (26k. T. canon divergence)
I couldn't not include this work. It deals with internalized homophobia so well and I really resonate with it.
In all seriousness, I’m very lucky to live in a country where my sexuality is widely accepted and my heart goes out the LGBTQIA+ peoples who are forced to hide themselves. You are loved and your sexuality and gender-identity are not wrong and never will be.
Oikawa is nine when he first hears the word. The boys on the playground whisper it like it's dirty, like the way they daringly mutter the word fuck and then look over their shoulders to check their parents hadn't heard.
"You know Abe-kun from class?" they snicker, hands cupped around their mouths like they're passing along a filthy secret. "I hear his older brother is... gay."
Look For Him, by Leryline (18k. E. canonverse)
A collection of kisses. I love Hajime’s grandmother.
She laughs gently. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you so heartbroken before, Hajime.”
Iwaizumi sighs and prods at the mackerel with a chopstick. “Sorry. I can’t help it. It’s just different, you know? Like Oikawa pissed me off so much that now he’s not here I don’t know what to do with myself.”
“But you weren’t always annoyed with him, were you?” his grandmother smiles serenely and takes a sip of her tea. “My, my, Hajime, old women see everything. I saw you out there with my finches, when you were kissing Tooru’s nose. Your mother and father used to do the very same thing, you know, when they were younger. And look how long they’ve lasted. I hope you and Tooru last, Hajime. He’s very good for you.”
-
Oikawa has kissed Iwaizumi more times than either of them can count; it’s a constant thing, their lips never really leaving the other’s skin. There are, however, times when they’ve kissed that are burned into their memories. Eight of them, to be precise.
film reel life, arsenicjay (8k. T. canon divergence)
Such a unique and creative idea! Reading from the eyes of a camera, so beautiful!
The only person Iwaizumi is lying to is himself, when he insists: I am not in love with Oikawa Tooru.
how to let your planets align, by tether (tothemoon) (15k. T. end of the world au)
This is the only remotely non-happy ending fic I will be including on here, and it's purely because it's a gorgeous read. And yes, I ached. Your lips, my lips, apocalypse.
It is the last day on earth, December 2nd, 1985, when you realize you're in love with him.

Can you do Karasuno and any other team with a R manager who looks really masculine? Like tall, buff, deep voice, etc. The first time they meet is when someone comes in and is like "this is your new manager" or smth. And the team mistakes R for a male. I don't want R to be insecure about it, I want her to be confident with it!😂 Please and thank you!! Don't do it if you don't want to!😄
A reader manager who looks masculine
A/N: This request is unique hahaha! I got excited while typing this because idk, it suites my tastes. I also didn’t expect this to be this long but oh well haha! anws, here’s your request! I hope you enjoy it and thank you for requesting. \( ̄︶ ̄*\))\
A/N2: It’s already 3:40 AM LMAOOO and I can’t sleep that’s why I decided to finish writing this []~( ̄▽ ̄)~*
~sky Karasuno, Seijou and Fukurodani
KARASUNO
Tumblr media
The first time Kiyoko introduced you to the team made the boys stopped from practicing.
All of them gathered around you and were looking at you with a confused look.
They got even more confused when Kiyoko said you are their new recruited manager because they thought why would they have a guy manager.
but when Kiyoko said your name, everyone are shock, even tsukki is lowkey shock because you have a feminine name.
However, Kageyama was not shocked because of your feminine name, he was surprised because he expected you to join the taekwando club.
Kageyama was like “Oh, Y/N, I thought you joined taekwando club?”
“I want decided to laylow while I’m in highschool so that I can focus more on acads”
Everyone was more shock because you and Kageyama are talking.
But they are more shock with your deep voice, your voice is deeper than Asahi’s.
“Y-you know each other?” Nishinoya asked you and Kageyama.
“yeah she’s my classmate”
“SHE?!?!”
“You’re a girl?! I thought you’re a guy!” Hinata said to you with a shock face then Daichi scolds Hinata.
“Oi! don’t say that to her!”
“It’s okay I’m used to it” you assured Daichi.
It’s not new to you because even way back in childhood, a lot of people mistaken you as a male.
You were insecure before when you were a kid because the other kids were like teasing you as a giant.
But as you grew older, you become confident with it, you are like “idgaf of what you are saying”.
You used your privilege and attended taekwando, so that if someones tries to bully you, you’ll give them a wack on their faces. lmao I’m just kidding.
For you being tall and having a deep voice is your favorite trait you had because people will know you.
Anyways, the third years would be protective over you.
They are the “protect Y/N at all cost”- squad, even when the lower years would ask you questions like “why is you voice so deep” or “why not grow you hair long”.
The third years would be like “STOP BULLYING HER” meanwhile you’ll just answer them
Hinata and Noya are high key salty with your height lmao ( ̄y▽, ̄)╭
Hinata highkey wants to be friends with you because you’re different to others like he’s curious while Yamaguchi is just lowkey because he is awkward. my cute bby,
Tanaka and Nishinoya are boasting on the other teams of having a tall manager and they’re happy because they can see Kiyoko talking and smiling.
The third years will always give you compliments and they are always simping on you.
AOBA JOHSAI
Tumblr media
It’s a little weird because you are recruited by their head coach.
You are his niece and actually agreed to him of being the manager of seijou.
Well anyways, you just agreed to meet him at the gym after your classes so that you will be properly introduce to the team.
So when you arrived to the gym, you were welcomed by a confused team that’s looking at you.
But then the third years were like “Oikawa is this one of your fans?” “Is this your new girlfriend?”
And you were like “Oikawa? who’s that person?” “I’m single pls”
When they heard your voice they are shock because damn that voice is deep for a girl like you.
They didn’t expect to a girl like you to have a deep voice.
For them, you look like a shy tall girl that look lost in the gym but they didn’t know that you act manlier than Oikawa.
So when they heard your voice the first years thought, to be specific Kindaichi, you’re a man that is cross-dressed.
So Kindaichi asked you “Are you a boy that’s cross-dressed in girl’s uniform?”
The team looked at Kindaichi with wide eyes, they all went speechless.
Even you, you’re too shock  to say something, it’s not your first time to be mistaken as a guy.
But people only mistaken you as man when they only heard your deep voice and also when you had a pixie cut during your middle school year.
That’s why you decided to grow your hair again.
You were back to reality when Oikawa speak up and defended you or more on like starting to be flirty with you.
“Now, now, Kindaichi, that’s not nice of you to say that to a beautiful lady like her”
He doesn’t care about your deep voice and you being manly, if he wants to flirt with you he will.
He will introduce himself and gives you cheesy pick up lines like:
“are you an alien? because you abducted my heart” ”
The the whole team rolled their eyes then the third years just sighed while Kindaichi, and Yahaba looked at Oikawa with nothing but hatred.
All of them so done with their captain flirting around the girls.
Iwaizumi was about to walk over to you and Oikawa but suddenly stopped when you answered Oikawa back.
"are you a garbage? because i want to throw you away”
With that comeback, everyone started laughing with the third years having the loudest laugh.
Matsukawa and Hanamaki praises you saying that you’re cool and wanted to be friend with you so that they have a new ally against Oikawa while Iwaizumi looked at you with an amuse look and a smirk.
In the middle of their laughing, their head coach enters the gym and saw you.
All of them stopped laughing and greeted their coach, same with you, you greeted the coach which is your uncle.
“Oh, Y/N glad you make it.”
Everyone was confused again because the coach knows you and greeted you back.
But their confused look were replaced with a shock expression when the coach properly introduces you to the team.
“This is Y/N, your new manager and my niece”
Oikawa was the most shocked because he flirted with his coach’s niece lmao.
While his fellow teammates are now trying to hold their laughter because their captain is dumbed af.
When they went to the court, the third years went to him and teases him.
“So, coach’s niece huh?”  (¬‿¬) Hanamaki said
“You need to be nice to us, Oikawa, if you don’t want us to tell our coach how you tried to flirt with Y/N earlier” Matsukawa then said.
FUKURODANI
Tumblr media
Yukie was the one who introduces you to the team.
When they first saw you their reaction are like “huh? the new manager is a guy?”
All of them are confuse except for their captain.
Bokuto was all excited because for the first time they’ll be having a male manager.
He was like “Wow! a male manager, amazing!”
You just chuckled while Yukie was lowkey panicking while waving her hands to the team.
“Y/n is not a guy, she’s just tall and all”
When Bokuto heard that, he looked at you with a pouty expression. lol such a big baby.
“Aww I thought she’s a guy”
The team facepalmed and Akaashi step then apologizes in behalf of Bokuto lmao.
But you were like “Oh it’s okay, I’m used to being mistaken as a guy, no worries”
When they heard your voice, they are amaze and like “woah”
Even Akaashi who’s good in controlling his expression was amaze and accidentally blurted his comment about your voice out loud.
“w-wow, your voice is so deep- I’m sorry for that”
You laughed about it and told that for you, your voice is your charm.
Bokuto looks at you for a while and gotten curious about your sports because you’re tall and have an athletic body.
“Y/n can I ask you a question? What’s your sports before?”
You looked at him and answered that you play volleyball in your middle school.
He got excited when heard about it and even his teammate got lowkey excited.
He asked about your position in volleyball and you answered wing spiker which made the captain more excited.
While Akaashi had already expected of you being the wing spiker of your team.
For him, if you’re not the wing spiker, you will be the middle blocker because you’re tall af.
Anyways, Bokuto asked you why you didn’t continue volleyball this high school.
and you were like “I want to focus more on my academics because I want to get in to nice university but I still want to have an extracurricular activity so I just joined as a manager”
With that Bokuto asked you to sometimes play with him.
Akaashi tried to stop the captain and apologize to you again but you agreed to it and made Bokuto happy.
Well, you actually also made the whole team lowkey excited because they can play with you.

________________________________________________________ Even if you said it just turned 6 pm, the outside had become darker as night than it is as dusk. Lately, days are short and the wind that touches the face is cold. It was right to wear a coat when you left the house which you thought may be a little too early to wear.
By the rotary in front of the station, Michimiya Yui is finding stars in the open night sky.
“That one is Orion.” Then, where is the North Pole? Was it the one in the middle of the Big Dipper? No, that’s wrong. If she draws a line from a certain constellation, it should be there. But, what constellation was it? Ursa Major? Ursa Minor? She's sure she had memorized it back when she was in elementary.
After returning her raised head and immediately giving up on finding the North Pole, Michimiya Yui hurried back home.
Will she be able to come home before the 7 pm special program? Did she set-up the video recording in advance?
She was carelessly worrying about the television program while hurrying back home.
Then, her feet suddenly stopped.
“Eh, no way.”
Among the people who are similarly hurrying back home, Michimiya’s eyes are staring at the back of that person wearing a black jersey walking around a block ahead of her.
“What do I do? But what if, I’m wrong? No, I’m not wrong. What to do? Impossible, he is also not listening.”
Though for some reason Michimiya was muttering, she bit her lips like she'd made up her mind and looked down at the boots she’s wearing. From her boots, tights, skirt, and coat, she checked her attire from bottom to top.
“It’s okay. I’m not wearing anything weird.” As she nodded encouragingly, she fixed her bangs through the camera of her phone.
Yoshi!
Then, slapping her cheeks with her two hands, Michimiya kicked the pavement and started running on the night road. Like she was rushing towards the court as if there was a match starting.
“Sawamura!”
____________________________
“Ah, what the- So it’s you Michimiya.”
The man who turned back, wearing a black jersey and holding a sports bag was, of course, Karasuno High School’s volleyball team captain, Sawamura Daichi.
Hahaha, she was told, “what the…”
Though slightly hurt by that, Michimiya without being disheartened asked Sawamura, “Why are you around here? What about today’s practice?”
“Ah, since we ended early today, I went to buy some things like my phone charger. Here.”
After showing the plastic bag from the electronics store, Sawamura continued. “I think it’s because it’s worn out but the one I’m currently using is in really bad shape. I thought that since I can also use it in Tokyo, I should probably prepare a replacement in advance. I just don’t want to panic when it happens.”
“Preparation for Spring High, huh?”
“Yeah. How about you? Where are you going, Michimiya?”
Being asked back, Michimiya hesitated just for a moment.
“Eh? Ah, I just went to hang out with Mao for a little bit. Did you know that we really ate a lot? Recently I’ve been wasting so much that my pocket money is not enough, and I certainly gained weight after retiring!” she said and laughed.
Ah-- what is she saying? She didn’t need to specifically say that she gained weight. Michimiya felt disheartened. However, Sawamura replied.
“Heeeh, Ukai-san also said the same thing before. He gained weight after he retired.”
The matter about girls’ talk of gaining and losing weight was completely ignored.
“Haha, is that so!”
Though laughing with all her might, Michimiya is feeling down.
---- Somehow, she feels like she's the only one pointlessly going around.
Sawamura who is standing before her is completely and truly the same as always. He is a person who just blurts out things like “How about we run for a bit right now?” whenever he likes and who makes a face of a typical men’s volleyball team captain. Michimiya is somehow pressed for words. She doesn't know what she should say. Maybe, “Ukai-san and I are similar then?” She can only say trivial things.
Why is that?
During middle school, she wasn’t this nervous when she was speaking to Sawamura. They even usually talked about things like their club activities, family matters, and tv programs. No, sometime in middle school until recently, she feels like there was no feeling of not knowing what she should talk about. Since when has it been like this?
“Michimiya, that’s where your house is, isn’t it? Because mine is straight ahead.”
“Yes.”
When she lifted her face, Sawamura was pointing across the pedestrian crossing. That’s right. They will separate ways from here on. Sawamura goes straight ahead while Michimiya crosses the pedestrian crossing to the other side.
“Bye,” Sawamura said, and he quickly walked away.
“Ah, yeah bye.”
The moment she said that and waved her hand, a wave of sadness came over her.
Though it was one of the rare times they got to go home together, somehow the time passed indistinctly. At least, if the stoplight was red then he could have waited until it turned green, but it was already green. Rather, she could have called him out. No, isn’t it nice that until here they were able to walk together and talk a little? Like this, after a few months, it’ll be graduation.
That’s right. When this winter ends it’ll be graduation, and chance meetings like this will be gone. Ah-- but even if it’s like that, saying things like “bye,” he just went straight ahead like that as usual.
-----------------------------
Watching the back of Sawamura as he started to walk away, her chest got tighter. It’s difficult. Painful. The pain pushes tightly starting from her chest coming all the way up to her throat. It’s a reproachful green light and yet why does it flicker as if it drives her forward if she won’t cross the street. Ah, she hates it. She really hates it.
What she hates is that she's the only one who isn’t straightforward. She's weak, huh. She hates being weak. She wants to become stronger.
Then once again, she slapped her cheeks and tried to motivate herself at that moment.
To find the way out, the pain, which had forcefully and continuously come up from her chest all the way up to her throat, had become words that popped out of her mouth.
“Sawamura!”
_______________________
“Yeah, what’s the matter?”
Sawamura who was called stopped just ahead and turned around.
“Eh? Ah, No…..Uhm, It’s…., E--- The, hahahaha…..”
What does she do? She's troubled. She didn’t have a purpose for stopping him.
Since the earlier “Sawamura!” was similar to a hiccup or a sneeze which selfishly came out of her mouth contrary to what she intended to do, she really didn’t have a purpose for calling him out. But, she can’t say that.
What to do? What to do? She should say something. It’s going to be weird if she doesn’t say something. Uhh….
Though Michimiya was in a hurry, when she found the bright street lamp by the road ahead, once again her hand moved before she could think. She pointed at the street lamp and said. “Ah! Uhh, Salt! Right, salt and soy sauce, then olive oil? Yup, that! Somehow it looks like they only have it at the big supermarket here. What’s that? Pickiness? My mom seems to have something like that? It’s troublesome, isn’t it?”
“Eh? Ah, is that so?”
Without noticing Michimiya’s slightly peculiar energy, Sawamura said, “Ukai-san also said something similar to that. Something about beer, I think?” He looked at the direction of the supermarket once again, “Then, we’re going in the same direction.” He ascertained. Michimiya, without knowing why,  thought “Thank you, Ukai-san!” While thanking him from the bottom of her heart, she nodded.
“Yes!”
“Then, let’s go?”
Behind the two who started walking, the stoplight turned red.

She lied.
The fact that she easily blurted out a lie, perhaps, she is bad. What does she do?
Mom, I’m so sorry. Until now, I planned to live an honest life but from today, I have become a bad liar.
As she was apologizing to her mother, the pain Michimiya felt until a while ago was gone. Her heart, on the contrary, was refreshed, her footsteps light. Even the awkwardness when speaking to Sawamura disappeared.
“Even so, it’s finally Nationals huh? It’s really amazing. Because when you speak of Spring High, it’s just so amazing that you’ve come to not really know what it is,” Michimiya said.
“That thing is not true right? Gestalt Collapse, huh.”
“No. But Spring High is just so unreachable. Ah, I shouldn’t say that. We aimed for that after all. However, rather than 'We’ll go to Nationals' things like ‘We won against Seijou’ or ‘We won against Shiratoriza’ are more familiar. You can actually feel it ‘like woah, it’s amazing!’”
“Aah, if it’s like that, I think I can understand.”
“For me, I can’t go to Tokyo but I’ll definitely watch on tv and give my support!” Michimiya replied.
“Aah, yes please.”
“But you see, both you and Sugawara are not only doing club activities but also studying at the same time, men’s volleyball really is amazing, huh.” While they were talking about things like that, Michimiya noticed something.
If it’s something about volleyball, they could talk normally. Ah, that’s right. It’s probably after she retired from club activities that she had come to not know what to talk about. Maybe it’s because they’re not both volleyball team captains anymore. Maybe it’s wrong? She wonders what it is. No, well, she guess it’s okay since they can freely talk if it’s about volleyball. However, up to the point that she told a lie, how is it that they can only talk about volleyball?
Sawamura without noticing the complicated feelings of Michimiya who was walking beside him, like the way he is, said and laughed. “No, back in first year I did receive failing marks you see. I’m worried about how next year will be.”
Things like who will be fit to be the next captain? Or how Seijou's 2nd years would be? What kind of people will Dateko’s 1st year players be? Even here, stories of nothing but club activities continue. If Sugawara were here, he'd probably say “You’re slow!” then get angry or laugh, but luckily or unluckily, Sugawara is not here. It’s only the two of them.
Then while both of them continued talking about their club activities, the two, at last, arrived in front of the Supermarket.
“Then, I’ll go shopping now!”
After she pointed at the almost blinding bright inside of the store, Michimiya laughed and then waved her hand as if it was nothing. “Bye!”
Truthfully, they were supposed to separate by the crossing but even if it’s just around 5 minutes, it was nice that they were able to walk together a bit longer. Yes, that’s good. She shouldn’t think things like disappointment or sadness, or “It’s ends here huh.” She told herself. However, not knowing about Michimiya’s resignation, Sawamura instead of waving back said, “I’m hungry. I think I’ll also buy something.”

The apple is red and colorful while the carrot is bright orange. The radish somehow reminds her of negative things so she’ll ignore it while the cauliflower is fluffy like a puppy which makes it cute. The tofu is tightly lined up and if she looks at the Japanese pickled vegetables, surprisingly it’s beautiful as it is of various colors. How come? Was the supermarket always this sparkling? Michimiya cheerfully walks around the crowded store while holding an empty basket.
Tumblr media
Whenever she goes out to the supermarket for errands she does not really think of anything but today whatever she sees looks delicious and fun. “Meat!” “Steaming Hot Pot!” Even the senseless BGM is fun. The various fruits, ice cream, pasta sauce, toothbrush, flour mix. The candies which change colors, even the combinations of sorts of the small steamed buns by grandma’s house. Anyhow, to the extent that she wants to put anything inside her basket, even herself knows that her spirits are way too high.
Calm down, dear self. It’s impossible. I can’t calm down.
“Ah, this one. Someone frequently bought this for me when I was a child. So it was 20 yen.”
Sawamura said who was beside Michimiya who in turn was holding a yogurt-flavored candy.
“This is the same one as Nishinoya ate just recently.”
“Eh, for real? It probably suits him.”
“Does cheap sweets suit him? Or does it not? No, wait. It does suit him.”
“Right?”
Then, they looked at each other and laughed.
Crap. This is fun. Forever and ever doing it like this.
“This. My mom usually buys this but honestly, it’s bitter.”
“No way! I discovered chocomint soy milk,” Michimiya exclaimed.
“Natto snack? What do you mean?”
I wanted to exchange things like that while walking round and round but I can’t do that. The things I have to buy have been decided beforehand. Truthfully, it’s okay even if I don’t buy anything.
“Uhh, salt, where is it again? This is where flour-related products are. Uhh… ah. There it is.”
As she arrived before the shelves where the condiments are, Sawamura who followed her was shocked.
“Wow. There are a lot. Which one are you buying?”
“Eh? Ah.. uuh”
Then, what should I buy?
More than she thought there were a lot of salt, salt, salt in front of her. Michimiya is at a loss. To begin with, she doesn't know what they were using at home. For now, she will just pick the one slightly expensive and put it in the basket. Well, it doesn’t really matter whatever she gets.
Beside her, Sawamura took the same salt and muttered, “Deep-sea water salt, huh. How is the taste different from the usual salt?”
“It’s a little mild, I think? But I’m not sure. I don’t lick only salt anyways.”
“Mildness, huh? I think I understand the differences in salt. I think if it’s Shimada-san, he probably knows.”
Looking at Sawamura’s face who was looking at the package of salt so earnestly, Michimiya, without thinking, laughed.
“What is it?” Sawamura questioned.
“Eh? No, it’s nothing! I just thought that maybe I should buy another one and try to compare them.” While dodging the question, Michimiya put a bag of ordinary table salt.
“Not a master of sake but a master of salt huh.”
“Yeah.”
Then, at the next shelf, she chose the barrel-prepared natural soy sauce because it also has a slightly higher price. Continuing at the opposite shelf, she chose the organic extra virgin olive oil.
“With these, I’m done! Then, what are you buying Sawamura? Bread? Onigiri?”
“Eh? Aah, do they have yakisoba bread?”
“You like that right?”
“It’s not that I particularly like it...wait? Hmm, do I like it?”
Sawamura is thinking while making a serious face again. It’s interesting.
But, to prevent not being asked “What is it?” again, Michimiya controlled herself from laughing and walked to search for bread. Not really. There’s not one thing that is particularly interesting. We’re just shopping as usual. But, she can’t help break into a smile anyway.
Eventually, she saw that there was no yakisoba bread. Worrying about what to get between hamburger bread and chicken sandwich was also fun. Choosing the money inside her wallet which was just barely enough was also fun. Everything was fun. Everything.
She probably understood the feelings of the people in musicals who suddenly sing and dance, Michimiya thought. If she does not pay attention and consciously make a meek face, she would  to an extent carelessly skip inside the store. She can’t help that it’s just a fun, fun shopping experience.
_________________________
After exiting the supermarket, Sawamura immediately started eating the hamburger bread. Based on the reasoning that the poor can’t afford manners, in front of a young high school man’s hunger, things like manners are too much.
“You’re really hungry huh.”
When Michimiya laughed, Sawamura inserted the straw into the packet of his milk coffee and strangely asked back, “Eh, there’s no need to lie right?”
Ah. My ears hurt.
It was when Michimiya looked down.
“Ah, it’s Karasuno’s volleyball team”
Suddenly, after the name of their school was called, Sawamura and Michimiya at the same time raised their heads. In front of their eyes were three men wearing blazers standing.
With a half-eaten hamburger bread in one hand, Sawamura opened his mouth.
“Ah. It’s Datekou’s Moniwa-kun and...”
That’s right. The ones who called out were Date Tech High School Volleyball team’s 3rd year students, Moniwa, Kamasaki and Sasaya.”
“Eh, people from Dateko?”
“Yeah.”
Though the two students from Karasuno were surprised with this sudden chance meeting, the students of Dateko, on the other hand do not at all express their surprise through words and instead are showing inexpressible discomposure.
If one thinks that the ex-captain Moniwa is retreating while unsteadily staggering, the former middle blocker Kamasaki stands dauntingly, with eyes open wide and barely moving. At their back, former wing spiker Sasaya calmly opened his eyes wide. Though for a short while the three were at a loss for words without even saying any greetings. Eventually they looked at each other’s dumbfounded faces and with trembling mouths, talked.
“Ha…. more than the fact that you're going to the Nationals, a man and woman walking side by side? What is this? What’s with that? Reality?”
“Wait, these two…shopping together?”
“Shopping...no way….perhaps, this is that rumored ‘Nabe-pa’?”
“Wait, Nabe-pa is an urban legend, right?”
“What urban legend? Do you understand what we’re saying?”
“Is it bad if I don’t understand?”
“Well, of course it's not good.”
He doesn’t understand what the conversation is about. He doesn’t understand, but looking at the people he knew suddenly start a useless quarrel in front of them, Sawamura cannot stand quietly.
“No, Uhh, Sasaya-kun? Here is the front of a store, so….” As he was trying to stop the scene, the other three, who were now looking teary-eyed, glared back at him. Without thinking, he winced. At that time, the three people from Dateko gave out something like those times when Sawamura, who unifies the 1st and 2nd year problem children of Karasuno, almost lost his nerves or probably some iron wall higher than the one they face during matches.
Watching the three fighting over nabe on the road, Sawamura said, “I think they’re the type best left as is.”
“I think so, too.” Michimiya firmly nodded.
Together, these two, as captains, have come to unify their team members. On one side they are not at all dull nor late bloomers, but they fundamentally excel in assessing the situation. These two decided that this is where they should draw back from the three.
“Let’s go."
“Yeah.”
Then, the two left the three players of Dateko and started walking away from the Supermarket.
“I wonder what that was?”
“Maa, there’s a lot of things.”
“Right.”
After laughing, they looked at each other.
“Well, since I go this way...”
“Aah”
“Bye”
Michimiya laughed. Today, they said several goodbyes. Yet, there was no sadness like the one she felt until a moment ago. If she said any complaints about having a fun time like this, surely she’ll be punished.
“See you tomorrow.”
“Yeah.”
The two waved their hands and then, they walked onto their respective paths.
_____________________
After fixing her hold on the grocery bag, carrying it with two hands instead of one, she muttered to herself.
“So heavy--”
The bag contains 2 bags of 1kg salt, 1 liter of soy sauce, and 50 ml of olive oil packed in a glass bottle. There’s no way it’s light.
After all, these are not needed. It would have been good if she had chosen lighter ones. Something like pepper or wheat or fried tofu. Either way, how will she explain to her mom the salt, soy sauce and olive oil. She can’t say the truth. With that said, she also has to say another lie.
Be that as it may, she was paying for her sins, and her mind was cloudy. At that time, a voice behind her was heard.
“Michimiya!”
When she looks back, she is surprised. The person who was crossing the pedestrian is Sawamura whom she just parted with just now.
“Eh? Eh?!”
As she stood holding tightly the rustling heavy vinyl bag, Sawamura, who caught up, said,
“I forgot to say something.” His face changed to a serious one after he smiled.
When Michimiya straightened her back without thinking, Sawamura talked.
“Thank you for the protective charm you gave before.”
“Eh. Ah, yeah.”
“I’ll bring it to Spring High as well.”
After saying only that, Sawamura said, “Bye.”
Then again, he turned back and started walking.
“Ah, yeah!”
With his back facing her, replying only was the best she could do.
“.......................”
It’s the usual Karasuno Volleyball Team Jersey. The back of a black jersey which is more familiar than their uniform will immediately tell you it’s Sawamura. No matter how dark it is. No matter how far he is. There’s no mistaking it. Indeed, it’s a back that has the dependability of a captain.
------ Indeed a captain?
Michimiya thinks.
Was I able to show my friends and kouhai a back like that? Without being ashamed, was I able to perform and be devoted?
As soon as she thought of that, Michimiya shouted, “Wait!”
Sawamura stopped his feet and turned back. “What is it?”
Michimiya held out the heavy vinyl bag and said. “This! You see, this, today, the truth is we don’t really need it.”
“Eh? Ah, is that so?”
“Yeah, I’m sorry.”
Michimiya put her head down after saying that. Sawamura answered, as if he was slightly troubled.
“No, there’s no need to apologize, right.”
“No. It’s no good. Because….” Michimiya shakes her head.
Sawamura spoke. “It’s okay. Even if you don’t use it today, someday you’ll use it right?”
“Eh? Ah, yeah. That’s right but…”
That is true but the problem is---- As she was thinking that, Sawamura continued.
“Recently, Ukai-san said --”
“Eh? Ukai-san again?”
“Yeah. Somehow, when he went along to do his family’s shopping, he was asked to line up several times to buy this bread called “Only 1 Loaf of Bread” from one of the famous stores. They have to eat it before it goes bad so everyday, every meal he continues to buy the bread and with that, it was really tiring.”
Bread? What is he talking about? Michimiya was doubtful but Sawamura’s face was serious all throughout so in the meantime she’ll keep listening.
“If you compared that to the bread, the salt and the soy sauce isn’t so bad.”
“Ah, yeah. Maybe it’s because it doesn’t get moldy?”
“Right?”
“Yeaaah?”
So, that’s it. That’s what the story was about, huh. Will it get molds? Will it not get molds? Is it good to talk about mold? Salt certainly does not get molds but…
At that time, her head was full of things about mold.
Sawamura spoke again, “Then, tell me how the Deep-sea water salt tastes like.”
“Eh?”
“Hey, salt master. Earlier, you said that it might taste mild but on the contrary, without putting unnecessary things, there is a possibility that it’ll have a sharp taste, right?”
Being lured by Sawamura’s serious face all throughout, Michimiya forgot about molds and pondered.
“You’re right. Yeah, I’ll try it once I get home.”
“Well then, tomorrow, please let me know.”
After saying that and smiling, Sawamura said, “bye,” and once again turned on his heel.
“Yeah! Tomorrow!” She cheerfully called out and waved her hand.
She saw his back walk across the street and watched it grow smaller and smaller as he moved farther away. It was when he finally turned at the corner and disappeared from her sight that Michimiya released her breath.
“Tomorrow, huh.”
As she said that, she held her cheeks with her two hands.
Hot, I’m sure my face has become bright red. Good thing it is dark, she thought. Since I’m absolutely making a weird face.
As she breathed in the perfectly clear winter air with all her might, Michimiya looked up at the night sky.
“So Tomorrow!”
She breathes out all her feelings together with a frosty breath. Then she faced front and started walking. Holding the heavy and precious package, she embraced in heart her small, small promise with Sawamura.
Salt, it’s okay to just taste it as is but maybe she should try making an onigiri and compare? There's also the option of dipping boiled egg to it and eating it.
As she is thinking about things like that, she starts to run before she knows it.
Just by running, it feels like tomorrow will come faster.

wholesome headcanons (oikawa edition ft. iwaizumi)
in honor of oikawa tooru's birthday (7/20) i'm doing another round of wholesome headcanons, this time specifically for our favorite ✨ sassy jellybean pretty boi ✨ i've got a request in my ask box for kagehina headcanons so that'll be next!! <333
despite having a huge fanbase in & outside of his school, oikawa is an absolute bi disaster
he gets flustered really easily (you can't tell me he didn't have some kind of bi panic when he first met suga)
oikawa has a pretty solid skincare routine and if he doesn't do it every day he gets self-conscious; it's such a good routine that ppl approach him to ask what his secret is for his clear skin
iwaizumi was there for all the experimenting and also follows a similar skincare routine, at first to show his support but then he admires the difference in how his skin feels so he continues to follow it
for all of his insults and teasing, oikawa doesn't actually hate kageyama—more like he sees him as an annoying little brother
this means that if someone hurts kageyama and he finds out abt it, there will be hell to pay
oikawa is very flexible with the concept of gender & sexuality and has no problem supporting any of his teammates or fellow classmates
imagine there's a non-binary kid in his class and that kid gets bullied for their form(s) of self-expression? disaster bi oikawa to the rescue
oikawa gets cold easily and so he's drawn to warm things (i.e. hot chocolate, sweaters, blankets, heaters/furnaces, iwa-chan)
oikawa is easily bribed/cheered up with the promise of milk bread
oikawa keeps up with the sci-fi subgenres of alien invasion/conspiracy & space opera and could write entire essays on the proof of aliens and it's just really endearing to hear him talk about it cos he's got that level of passion that rivals his love for volleyball
he's really good at calming people down when they're in a state of panic or distress
oikawa is perpetually sleep-deprived due to staying up late practicing, watching movies/anime/youtube/vb game recordings, studying, etc., and so sometimes he dozes off during the day and if that happens around any of the team, they get respectfully quiet
one time ushijima bluntly agreed that oikawa is attractive around other ppl, including oikawa ("yes, why wouldn't he know he's attractive? he owns a mirror" - a snippet of dialogue from @thursday-26, posted with permission) and oikawa was so surprised he couldn't do anything but stare and blush like the disaster he is
oikawa still has the little plushie takeru gave him when takeru was like, 3 or 4
sometimes oikawa watches the sunset and sends the pics he takes to iwaizumi, mattsun, and/or makki
that's it for now!! <33 happy birthday, oikawa. you deserved to go to nationals.

dad iwaizumi and im not just talkin bout what i call him in bed
his smile 🥺 this was so cute to write
Tumblr media
As the clatter of contents in the heavy box you were attempting to heave from a shelf comes tumbling down, you think that this is how you die, squeezing your eyes shut, in the dusty attic of your house, sunlight filtering through the faded window panes.
The awaited collision doesn’t come though, and as you peek open your eyes, you meet the gaze of Hajime Iwaizumi, who looks amused as he easily holds the cardboard box in one hand.
“Why did you just stand there as a six pound box came at your face?”
“Because I knew my strong husband would be there to save me.” You coo, grabbing the box from him, as he rolls his eyes, and when you set the box down, you press a kiss to his cheek with a grin.
The entire day was to be dedicated to dusty boxes and storage, cleaning out unnecessary junk that was lying around the house, but also to nostalgia in resurfacing old memories.
“Look at this!” Your near death experience flits out of your mind as you begin to dig into the contents, holding up a picture frame, depicting Iwaizumi’s graduation photo.
“I hope you’re tossing that out.” He points, looking up from joining you at the box, and you laugh over the frame, shaking your head, refusing. “Look at this though.”
The pride shows in his features as he holds up a sash, depicting in bold letters ‘CHAMPION’ and you roll your eyes.
“Hey!” Iwaizumi defends at your action, narrowing his eyes. “This is how it all started.”
“You’re a sap.” You smile, resting your arms on his shoulders, pressing a chaste kiss to his lips, to which he hums, hands on your waist.
“Gross!”
“Get a room!”
“Bleh!”
The booing chorus causes you both to pull apart, chuckling under your breaths, turning to face your three kids.
“Do you know what this is?” Iwaizumi distracts them from their initial disgust, only shifting it to disdain at the sash in his hands.
“This is how I got a date with your mother.”
You snort as your kids’ interest is piqued and Iwaizumi thrives under it, retelling a day that seemed so close yet so far in the past.
It was when Kyoutani had been constantly challenging Iwaizumi, and the exact date slipped your mind, but you remember it was summer, the clubroom of the volleyball club hot, but not unbearable. An arm wrestling contest had been proposed for everyone, fueling all the competition in everyone, along with Iwaizumi’s apparent reign as champion (which he still upheld that afternoon)
You recall the slight tint in the Ace’s ears as he was asked what he wanted as a prize, asking in a voice so low, Oikawa had to stoop down, and you had to lean forwards to catch it.
“You do know I would have gone on that date with you even if you hadn’t won, right?” Your hands are on your hips, amused, and Iwaizumi frowns, mid telling of your first date. “I’d be stupid to not accept a date with Seijou’s Ace.”
“That’s not important.” Iwaizumi dismisses finally, and your kids giggle.
“You beat everyone dad?” Your youngest inquires, awed, and Iwaizumi grins, flexing, and your oldest and middle children laugh.
“Of course I did. Don’t ask your Uncle Tooru though. He’ll say he won.”
“I wanna try!”
You watch, heart soaring as an impromptu competition was set up, using the cardboard boxes, and in a matter of seconds the back of Iwaizumi’s hand hits the surface as he groans in faux defeat while your kids cheer.
If another box had come crashing down at this moment, your family’s laughter in your ears, the sight of pure love in everyone’s eyes, you would’ve been content with your fate, yet it wouldn’t be a long while until you were at that day, and as you met Iwaizumi’s gentle gaze, you were happy with that even more.

Failed Attempts | Iwaizumi x Reader Oneshot
Tumblr media
Word Count: 3162
----------------------------------------------
He carried a vibe around him. And it's intimidating. He's really quiet and focused in class, but he's not the best student. He's quite popular with the boys, but for some reason girls just never really notice him, especially not when he's always around that guy. Iwaizumi Hajime is someone I'd classify as an undiscovered gem. Girls don't seem to see his charm, and they never seem to notice the bright light he's capable of giving off.
As always I sit at the back of class, glancing constantly at the raven haired boy as he scribbled things down into his notebook during math. I've noticed him since the first day I met him, back in our first year of high school. I sat right behind him, but I never talked to him.
He's always busy, I noticed. He's either reading something, talking to someone, or going somewhere. I see him so often, even outside of class. I'd see him on my way to club, he'd be heading to his own club. I'd see him on my way home; he only lives a few blocks away from me. Even though I see him so often, I never actually sat down and talked with him...
Oikawa-san is pretty friendly, he'd greet me whenever we walk by each other in the hall. And whenever I am greeted by Oikawa-san, Iwaizumi would also nod at me. Even though that's a typical 'oh I noticed you' response, every time it happens I somehow get super happy. I don't know what makes him so interesting to me. To be honest I just enjoy watching him completely destroy other boys in arm wrestling, or produce a god-like record in running 1 km, or even be asked to join all the sports team. Around my second year of high school I realized I want to talk to him. It was the first day of our second semester and god granted me this golden chance. First day of the semester we get new seats, and I happened to sit right next to him, to his left. "Good morning Iwaizumi-kun," I greeted, and thank god my voice didn't crack.
"Oh, hi," Iwaizumi replied. Say something, start a conversation, I told myself.
"Long time no see," I made out.
"Mmhm, long time no see," he replied. Good job, great way to start a conversation, I slapped myself in my head. It didn't take me long to realize that Iwaizumi, despite being the vice captain of the volleyball team and always surrounded by boys, is actually quite the introvert. He enjoys his silence, and he likes lone time, which I heard from Oikawa. I'm not really familiar with either of them, but if I had to say who I'm closer to, it'd definitely be Oikawa. He walked with me from class to my club a few times, just to tell me how sad he is that the coach doesn't let him play due to his injuries.
Of course, my attempts to talk to Iwaizumi didn't stop there. After class, I wanted to invite him to eat lunch with me. But the moment I opened my mouth, "Iwa-chan, let's go eat lunch together!" Oikawa called out from the other side of the room. And then all the other volleyball team members would miraculously show up. I nodded my head, Okay, guess that's that. In the end, I ate lunch with my other friends.
From time to time I'd see him in the halls or on the street, but he always seem like he's in a hurry to go somewhere, so I couldn't really bring myself to interrupt his journey. There was once I saw him down the hall on my way to the cafeteria, and since it was lunch time and he was alone I figured I'd invite him to lunch. "Hey, Iwaizumi-kun!" I greeted. "Where are you headed?"
"Oh I'm going to the teacher's office," he said.
"Oh, is that so, well have fun, I guess," I waved and left. Yeah.....so much for inviting him to lunch.....
A few weeks later, after my club activities, I'm in the art club by the way, I saw Iwaizumi walk out of his club room with Oikawa, ready to go home. I was so ready at that time. I gathered up my courage. Today is the day. Today I'm going to ask them if we could walk home together. Then I could talk to Iwaizumi. "Hey! You guys heading home too?" I called out.
"Oh hey!" Oikawa noticed me and waved back, big smile on his face. Bless him for his friendliness. I know people call him a playboy, or whatever, but to me he is a god given blessing, my key to approaching Iwaizumi.
"Oikawa, I'm gonna go to Kitagawa right now, I'll see you tomorrow," Iwaizumi said. I stood there speechless. If I remembered correctly, Kitagawa Daiichi is the middle school the two came from, but what business does Iwaizumi have with his middle school? Especially at eight in the evening!
"Okay, I'll see you then!" Oikawa waved at his best friend.
"Bye!" I said to Iwaizumi. He shot me a faint smile. Although it was just one out of courtesy, it killed me inside out. God why is he so handsome? And that smile of his...just unfair! And I watched him leave...again....
"So, wanna go home together? We're in the same direction right?" Oikawa offered.
"Oh yeah, sure!" I replied instantly, hiding my disappointment. To be fair, Oikawa is fun, definitely someone I enjoy being around. He knows how to start a conversation, and is really open and funny. He's slightly arrogant, but that only adds to his charm. I totally understand why girls like him, not just for his face. Either way though, I only see him as a pretty cool friend.
This leaves me wondering, why is it so hard to talk to Iwaizumi?! Every time I see him, he's there and then he's gone, off to do something. It's not that I don't try to talk to him, it's just I don't want to be obvious and I don't want to be rude. When he's talking to someone else, I can't just go in and invite myself into the conversation just to talk to Iwaizumi.... No.... I can't.
Originally I was interested in him as a person, and a possible love interest, since you know...I'm interested. However at this point he just became a challenge I wanted to overcome. I'm actually the type to try to overcome anything I find an obstacle, and at this point I just want to sit down and talk to him, in a real conversation about things like what he likes and what he does on his free time, things like that. I won't be satisfied with things like 'oh isn't the weather nice' NO! I'm. Going. To. Talk. To. Iwaizumi. Period!
Of course, what I decide and what I do doesn't quite line up on the same page....
"Hey~..... Akane-chan!" I walk past Iwaizumi who was in a conversation with Matsukawa, from class 1, and greet my friend from middle school. Akane-chan and I haven't talked much since high school started so she was surprised to hear me call out to her out of the blue, but we ended up chatting up on our lives and catching up. In the end we even ate lunch together and decided to hang out more often. Wow...I even tightened my relationship with an old friend.... And I still haven't talked to Iwaizumi....
Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months. Now, we were in our third and final year. I'm at the stage where if we see each other we'll say hi and bye. That's an improvement....right? At least now he says hi to me without me initiating it.... But then he turns and leaves soon after that, and goes where he needs to go.
"Why are you so obsessed with Iwaizumi? In my point of view I think Oikawa is much better looking," Akane asked during lunch. We were sitting in the courtyard, eating our bentos. Yes, I actually became much closer to her due to my failed attempt of talking to Iwaizumi, she knows this now.
"I don't know, I just can't seem to stop. Ever since day 1 I've been trying to talk to him and fate just doesn't want me to apparently!" I said. "Plus, I don't see Oikawa that way. He's cool and all but not my type. I like someone more... Interesting."
"Like Iwaizumi."
"Well......yeah?" I nodded in an unsure way. Now that I think about it, I wouldn't quite describe the boy as interesting. Sure he's got some quirks, but they're quite typical for a boy, and plus since he's always with the oh so great Oikawa Toru, he just seems kinda plain if you think about it. However, despite all that, he always leaves me wondering what's on his mind. I'm always thinking about where he's going next, where the place that takes him away from me is. I'm always questioning how he's going to respond to my next attempt to talk to him. Iwaizumi Hajime is the boy that keeps me on the tip of my toes. "Yeah," I decided. "Yeah, like Iwaizumi."
"Honestly, I don't even know what to say," Akane chuckled. "Good luck I guess?"
"To be honest I don't even have any hope for a chance with him. I just want to fucking talk to him! Is that so hard?!" I groaned.
I even started going to his games. Seijou is quite the volleyball powerhouse so plenty of our students go to watch the volleyball game. I made it my own duty to go watch his games whenever I can. I gotta say, he really looks best when he's in that volleyball jersey. I love seeing him in that number 4. The way he jumps into the air and smashes down the ball with those muscular arms, whoa. The more I watch him the more obsessed I get. Next time I see him I'm definitely going to say something about his performance in the game.
"Hey Iwaizumi-kun, I saw your game. You were great!" I would say to him.
"Thanks! Hey I didn't know you like volleyball?" he'd say back to me.
"Well, yeah I'm actually quite the volleyball fan, but I don't know much about it."
"Wow, you should watch our practice some time."
"I'd love to. Maybe we could walk home together after your practice and you can tell me some more about volleyball?"
"Sure!"
Yes, that's how it's going to work.
The next day I walk into class, he hasn't arrived yet. I sat my stuff down and started replaying my conversation in my head. And finally, the door slides open and a familiar raven haired boy walks in. His had dark circles under his eyes and he seemed to drag himself into the classroom. I hesitated, but I still went up to him and said, "Iwaizumi-kun, I saw your game yesterday. Great job!"
"Oh, thanks," he said and then went to his seat. O...kay...... Not how I imagined it would go. It seemed kind of inappropriate at the time to continue the conversation, so I just decided to go back to my seat. That was embarrassing....
I just can't seem to find the right time and way to talk to him.
Then came what seemed like the chance of my life. Akane and I were sitting in a cafe on the weekend, staring at the menu, and that's when we heard a pleasant voice, "Hey you guys are here too!" Oikawa and Iwaizumi walked over to us from the cafe front door. Of course it was Oikawa greeting us.
"Hey! What a coincidence!" Akane said, excitement in her voice. I could guess the reason behind her excitement. She was probably happy for me, and this god given chance. Knowing that I'd probably screw it up, she was determined to grab this chance for me. "Sit with us! Here for lunch?" Bless her.
"Yeah! Come on Iwa-chan," Oikawa and Iwaizumi sat down at our table. Akane invited Oikawa to sit on her side, leaving Iwaizumi to sit with me. Oh my god..... This is my chance! But what do I do?! I haven't planned anything beforehand...
"Hey, Iwaizumi-kun. Fancy seeing you here!" I mustered out.
"Yeah, didn't think I'd see you here," he replied nonchalantly. Okay, how am I going to respond to that?
"Um, yeah, I actually quite like this place. I come here occasionally," I said.
"Let's order something to eat," Oikawa said. I was thankful for the fact that Oikawa was here. Even though he always seems to take Iwaizumi away when I want to talk to him, he always seems to get me out of an awkward situation with Iwaizumi.
"Actually, I'm not hungry, I'm gonna go now," Iwaizumi stood up.
"Eh? But Iwa-chan, you were the one who was complaining about how hungry you were!" Oikawa said. My eyes widened and I turned to Iwaizumi, who was now towering over our table, cheeks slightly flushed.
"Shut up! Well I'm not hungry anymore, I'll leave now," Iwaizumi said. Huh? But why? Is it because I'm here? Does he not wanna be with me? Is that why he leaves every time I talk to him? Before I could ask him, he started walking out the cafe. I opened my mouth to call his name, but instead I just looked at Akane. According to her later on when I asked, I looked like it was the end of the world at that time.
"Go after him!" she shouted at me, as if it was the obvious thing to do like brush your teeth in the morning. Instantly, I dashed off. I ran out the cafe and sprinted towards Iwaizumi. The familiar silhouette looked unnaturally painful to me. I'm so used to seeing him turn his back on me, but this time, I didn't want to stare at him from behind anymore.
"Iwaizumi-kun!" I shouted as I finally grabbed him by the edge of his sleeve. The boy's dark brown eyes widened at me and my actions. "Are you leaving because of me?! Do you dislike me?!" Now his face went blank in disbelief. Suddenly, he was the one who became flustered.
"No! No! Of course not! You're great! How could I dislike you!? I just thought you'd like it if I left you with Oikawa," Iwaizumi said, violently shaking his hand, signally no.
"What? Why would you think that?!" I demanded, slightly appalled by the idea.
"Well, don't you like him?"
"No! What makes you think that?"
"I mean, all girls do. And he seems to like you quite a bit. You guys talk to each other a lot. He even mentions you during practice sometimes. I figure you guys are-"
"Hold it! Hold it! I don't like Oikawa any more than a friend! In fact the person I like is you, not him!" I just blurted things out like an idiot. I quickly slapped my hand over my mouth when I realized that I just confessed to him, out of the blue. That was the thing I swore I wouldn't do. I'm supposed to get to know him, have him get to know me and get him to like me and then confess when I'm sure of his feelings for me. Ugh. Now I just ruined it. Goodbye my chance of ever being together with Iwaizumi. He thinks of me as a creep now.
However, Iwaizumi's reaction was out of my expectations, as always. Instead of showing disgust and horror, his face was flushed red with embarrassment and surprise. He placed a hand in front of his face, as if to hide the blush on his cheeks, but unfortunately the shade has already reached his ears and neck. "O-Oh..." he mustered out after a while. Oh? I just confessed to you and you say 'oh?' I thought. "Um...I'm sorry..." Great, now he's gonna reject me. "I didn't know. I guess I'm kind of clueless when it comes to this..." Ugh...please just reject me already don't keep me hanging. "Um...is it okay if we get to know each other a little bit better first?"
"Huh?" I asked, confused.
"I think I should get to know you better...before I give you a reply," Iwaizumi said, face still red as a tomato. I think that's so cute. "Is that okay?"
"Y-...Yes! Yes of course!" I nodded violently. "I'd love that!"
"O...Okay," he seemed to be getting more and more embarrassed at the moment.
"Iwaizumi-kun, could it be...this is your first confession?" I asked. Jackpot. His ears were literally emitting steam now. A smile made its way to my lips. I was already enjoying this side of him. I want to get to know him more, to see more sides of him. "Then, maybe we can start with lunch together?"
"A-Alright...." he nodded.
For the record we didn't go back to the cafe with Akane and Oikawa. We completely forgot about them and decided to go somewhere else, somewhere more....private. With that, we began to talk regularly, exchange texts, and I'd come to watch his practice and games with him noticing.
As if we were always that close, Iwaizumi and I started calling each other by first name basis. And we'd eat lunch together, go home together (with Oikawa) and even hang out on weekends. To be honest I was kind of satisfied with the way we are. Even if in the end he told me he didn't see me as a lover, I'd still be okay with it. Of course, if he said yes and became my boyfriend, I'd be happier than a mouse with cheese.
And so the day came. It was the December 23rd, Friday. I walked out of club that day after school, and there he stood, in front of my club room, as if waiting for me. "Hajime," I called out. He looked up, brown orbs meeting mine. His look told me that he was serious. At that point my heart dropped a little. I knew today was the day. It was the day that would decide whether we'd stay as friends, or god would answer my prayers. I gulped.
"I'm here to give my answer to you," he said to me.
"I'm ready," I told him.
He walked up to me, each step he took made my heart feel heavier and heavier. My breathing literally stopped when he was finally in front of me. He towered over me like a wolf over a rabbit. It was to be expected from a volleyball player such as himself. At that moment, however, he looked the most intimidating out of all the moments I've seen him. A breath, and he parted his lips. I closed my eyes, squeezing them shut, bracing myself for what is to come.
"I love you, __________."

⊱ ────── {.⋅ ☼ ⋅.} ────── ⊰
only two more weeks before the spring high preliminary tournament starts.
the team has been training extra hard for the past month to have a chance against their seemingly invincible longtime rival, shiratorizawa academy. as if their standard three hour practice from three to six pm wasn’t enough, the rest of the third years have joined their captain, oikawa tooru, in practicing an extra hour in preparation for the competition. it’s their last tournament, their last opportunity to go to nationals, their last chance to make their goal possible in their high school career.
oikawa, in particular, has been ending his practice later than everyone else’s for the recent half of the month, and you’ve willed yourself to stay as late as he does to look after him and forcibly push him out of the gym the very millisecond the time on your phone displays seven pm.
last time you checked, however, it was already half past seven in the evening. the guards who were doing their check up rounds before closing the school had finally convinced the four third years to stop practicing and go home on their third stop by the gym, and by that time, you were too tired to change outside in the girl’s bathroom near the gym due to how late it is already.
usually, you don’t change inside this gym’s changing room for girls since that room has been barely kept clean and tidy. in the three years that you’ve been in aobajousai high school, and in the three years that you’ve spent four hours (or so) a day inside this very gym, you’ve only ever been the female member inside the four walls of this very facility, and as the sole female of this club, you’ve only ever went inside the girls changing room every month to check it’s state of cleanliness.
you’d think that the male volleyball club would try to get help from other students in cleaning the slightly-larger-than-average gym and managing their players, but as you witness the yearly attempts of the club’s recruitment for another  managerial position, no one has ever been approved by both of the coaches nor the majority of the club members.
except you, of course. who else would be alone in this dusty changing room that no one else has used for three years or more?
you stripped off your white shirt, wiping off the light film of sweat from your shoulders and upper back with the sullied piece of clothing, then picked up your white button down top from the bench in front of you and slipped your arms through the sleeves quickly, not wanting to catch a cold right before an important event in your life. you started to button from the lower middle, unbothered to wear your uniform properly because, well, you’re on your way home. it seems like a waste of energy to close every button in this shirt when you’re going to take it off in your house anyway.
you’ve barely buttoned up to your chest when you hear a door being opened and closed, loud and clear; the sound of the door’s latch bolt sliding into the latch strike crisp in your ears. it sounded too clear for your taste, so you turned around and saw oikawa, his back to your front, in the middle of taking off his shirt in the same room as you. wait a minute, why is he in the girl’s changing room? there’s barely any people in their changing room right now, so why is he here?
caught up in your thoughts, you still with your hands still clutching your half open top and your spandex shorts clinging tightly onto your legs. you don’t notice oikawa take off his shirt completely and turn to look around, and you don’t notice him widen his eyes and open his mouth because holy shit, you’re alone and practically half naked in front of him.
it’s not like he hasn’t thought about it before; he can’t deny that his crush on you since the first year may have contributed to his, uhm, imaginative and creative thoughts about you late at night. it doesn’t help that you’ve grown so close to him, especially since you spend more than half of the day with him as his classmate and as his manager of the volleyball club.
he catches himself before he spends too much time staring at you, instead  coughing awkwardly to get your attention. you blink as you do, shaking your head as if it’ll physically get rid of the thoughts from your mind and quickly turn back around and start buttoning up the remainder of your shirt.
“what are you doing here?” you asked, your voice low but loud enough to reach his ears, cutting through this somewhat tense air between and all around you. internally pushing away your shock, you grab your skirt from the bench and slip it on awkwardly in silence when you don’t hear anything from his end of the room. well, he’s definitely not making it easier for both of us.
you sighed and turned around with your hands clasping the latch on your skirt closed and pulling the side zipper shut.
“what are you doing here,” you repeated your question to him. it seems to pull him out of his thoughts, and being the cheeky fucker that he is, he responds with me? oh, i’m just taking off my clothes. i don’t want to get a cold, you know?
“are you gonna tell me why you’re here or do i have to punch the answer out of you?“ you asked him rhetorically, animatedly punching your right hand to your open left palm rhythmically as you slowly stepped closer to the famous captain-setter of seijou. oikawa flinches at the sound of your fist slapping against your palm; he holds both of his arms out in front of him to distance and physically limit you from getting closer to him.
“no— please don’t misunderstand, i mean no harm!” he almost shouts at you, the tone of his voice high and almost whiny.
“somehow, i doubt that.”
"why?!” he groans at you, stuttering over his words and taking a few steps back when you reach his outstretched hands. with your right hand on your hip and your left arm dangling by your side, you try to best to shoot an intimidating glare at the male in front of you.
“it sounds like an excuse. start explaining. now.” he flinches and steps backward, but his back meets the cold wall of the room and he’s now cornered in his place.
“i’m not here to do anything bad, i swear!” you continue to glare at him with forceful, inquisitive eyes and a slight tilt of your head; he starts babbling a few seconds later, telling you how the third years are bullying him and that he just  wants to change clothes without being attacked physically or verbally, so he runs away from them and takes refuge here. “i’ve changed here a couple of times already, so i’m surprised that you’re here.”
“it seems like a waste of time if i walked back outside,” you hummed dismissively. you stop glaring at him and oikawa lets out a sigh of relief, dropping his outstretched arms back to his sides and slumps against the wall.
“it’s kinda funny though,“ you start, walking back to other end of the room to retrieve your things. ”i bet girls would kill for this opportunity. kinda sounds like a plot of a shoujou manga,“ you joked to him.
“just a shoujou manga?“ he asks, six feet away from you now. with your back to his front, you don’t see nor hear him walk over the distance between you. instead, he surprises you by whispering directly into your ear from right behind you; you barely register the sudden heat of his body pressing flush to your back as you bent down slightly to pick up the discarded pair of tracksuit pants on the floor.
“how about we turn this ‘shoujou manga’ into a different, more mature genre?“
the contrasting feeling of his slightly cold lips and the hot, humid wispy breaths as he whispers on your ears has your mind going blank and your brain going into overdrive at the same time.
ex-excuse me? what?
oikawa notices your reaction and smirks to himself. he just finished his four and a half hour intense practice, and his mind has been flooded with the thought of the upcoming tournament for the past three and a half months, but right now, all he can think of is how surreal it feels like to have one of his late-night fantasies play out in real life.
… well, sort of.
breaking out of your thoughts (not that you had any), you quickly turned around and pushed the male away from you. you tucked your chin close to your left shoulder, shielding your face away from him as you feel the cheeks on your face slowly growing hotter.
“stupid, what the fuck are you saying, shittykawa?!“
“[name]-chan~ my arms are so sore right now. can you pull the waistband of my pants down for me?“
“you little piece of shit— come here!“ you growled at him as you opened the nearby locker and pull out a mop, swinging it at him, but he dodges your attempted attacks easily. when he sees that you stopped trying to hit him for a second, he takes his chances and grabs the end of the stick, pulling it behind him and, in return, pulling you close to him. you lose your balance, falling directly into his chest. you both fall to the ground, though, and he softens his fall by placing his hands behind him just in time, and you place your arms on his shoulders in panic while falling.
“now, now, [name]-chan. don’t go falling for me during times like this.”
“i will kill you—“
“hmm? kiss me, you say?“
“you insufferable brat!“ you reach to wrap your little hands around his neck in an attempt to choke him, but before you realize your actions—
“oh, [name]-chan, slow down there! i imagined this part to go at the end where we— “ he stops himself when you both hear loud footsteps on the other side of the wall. you exchange looks and quickly move to stand up. he manages to pull you inside the locker just as the doorknob begins to jiggle, and you barely had time to grab your discarded clothing and the mop to hide with you inside. oikawa closes the door shut just in time for the only three other possible students left in this campus, in this very gym, to step in the changing room.
"oikawa?” you hear hanamaki call out to him loudly at the end of the room, “you here?”
“i heard noises here just earlier,“ iwaizumi comments. they grow silent, but their footsteps are loud and booming amidst the quietness of the room.
“where did you think he’d ran off to?” in here, in this locker that barely fits us both, you answer back at matsukawa in your head.
the person they’re looking for has both of his arms on each side of your head, caging you in with not only his arms, but also with his intense stare from above you. you’re grasping the mop along with the clothes tightly in your hands in between you, but that doesn’t stop him from pressing tightly against you; the stick of the mop digs slightly in his abdomen and in the middle of your lower chest, but you don’t notice the pain when you’re too focused and caught on his hypnotizing gaze.
“don’t make any noise,” he instructs to you lowly. you feel the vibration from his chest to your own, and it sends goosebumps trailing down your arms. “if you do, they’ll find us here.” he leans his head lower towards yours, placing his mouth back where it was just a few minutes ago.
“if we stay silent, they’ll probably get out soon,” he whispers, and you involuntarily shiver at the feeling of his breathe on your ear.
“stop that, you’re tickling me,” you try your best to keep your voice steady as you tell him that while looking straight into his eyes, as if you were challenging him. on what exactly, you aren’t sure— but you feel like you’re losing to him right now, and you do not like it.
“you’re tickling me with your hair.”
“well, sorry. you’re pressing up against me, you know—”
“well, sorry,“ he mimics you. “this locker is really tiny for both of us!” you stay silent after that, hearing someone’s footsteps growing louder and seeing them pass by the locker through the tiny slits at the top. you hold in your breath when they stop and stand just a few feet away from the locker, but oikawa doesn’t see this because his back is towards their direction.
“is it because i stink?“ he asks. you don’t see well in the dark, but you swear that his eyebrows move up as if he’s taking offense to you holding your breath.
"no, you idiot! they just stood outside the locker for a few seconds.” you whispered loudly to him, deeming it safe when you see iwaizumi (you identified him when you saw his dark hair through the slits) move away right after oikawa’s question. ”also, you don’t stink, you’re just sticky.”
"well maybe it’s because i just practiced volleyball for four hours—"
"oh like i don’t see you practice volleyball for four hours everyday?”
“be quiet!”
“you’re the one who pulled me into this locker!!”
“sorry,” he apologizes with a small sigh, turning his head and looking away from you as he does. he’s silent after that, and you return to listening for the trio’s footsteps and trying to peek through the narrow openings of the locker when you hear him speak up once again.
“for us to be inside this small locker, it kind of makes me excited."
"ha?” you growled at him. even with the limited amount of light passing through the slits, you see how intensely he’s looking down at you. you feel like an animal being preyed upon, and you reluctantly dodge his eyes, the feeling of being caged by him creeping once again.
“don’t bother hiding,” you feel him smirk. “we’re so close that i can feel your heart beat. you can feel my heart beat too, right?” you don’t trust your voice to answer him verbally, so you shook your head slightly, still looking away from him. you feel him shift his right arm to pull your right hand separate from the stick of the mop (which you were still grasping unto very tightly) and slowly guide your hand towards the middle of his chest. “here, touch it. it'’s beating faster than usual.“ you feel how deep he’s breathing, and how slow and controlled it is compared to your own. you hear the soft thudding of his heartbeat with your hand, but it’s powerful enough to render you speechless for a moment.
"see? it’s fast, isn’t it?”
“yeah, but isn’t it because we’re, i don’t know, hiding in a locker?”
“true, but it’s also because of you,” he responds easily and immediately, as if he had already prepared that answer in his head or as if the response just came naturally to him. honestly, it could be either of the two.
“it’s a shame that it’s so dark in here, i want to see your expression right now.” he nears his face back to your own, this time dropping his head on your shoulder and turning his head to look up at you. “but i’m sure your ears must be so red, your face must be so cute right now.”
he’s really killing you with this position, because he’s breathing in your ear and your neck, and you can’t help but shiver once again in response. he breathes in and lets out a syllable because stopping himself, hearing the trio outside exit the girls changing room with groans and complaints on their lips. you almost let out a big, audible sigh when you hear the door open again. in a blink of an eye, the room grows dark and the sound of the door shutting once again echoes through.
oikawa, still on your shoulder and his mouth close to your ear, exhales shakily. you try your best to suppress your reaction as you hear him continue. “i can’t believe they shut the lights off,” he mutters under his breath. “d'you think they locked it?”
“i-i’ll go check—”
“wait,” he places his other hand on your other shoulder. oh, if you weren’t before, now you’re definitely trapped. “they might come back here. let’s wait for a few more minutes.“ his hand is on one side of your shoulder, his head is on the other and is blocking your body from the exit, and to top it off, he has one of your hands hostage, placed on his chest with his larger hand on top of yours while your other hand is clutching tightly to a mop and your clothes.
fine, it’s not like i can move anyway.
thus, you spend the next few minutes in silence. oikawa notices that you shiver every time he exhales, and being the absolutely tease that he is, he decides to blow: one light, but long consistent blow directly into your ear. you can’t help but squirm against him, but he holds you captive in his arms.
"hmm? what is this, are you weak against this type of thing?” he drops his head back to your shoulder, feeling his lips move against your neck into a smirk. “if you let out your voice, they’ll find us here. endure it, [name].” he stops.
then he blows once again.
“stop that,” your voice cracked.
“sorry, but you’re so cute.” he giggles lightly, rubbing the side of his face against your neck like some sort of humanized version of a cat headbutting against his owner. “i want to tease you more, but they’ll wonder where we are if we take too long.” slowly, he moves away from you, and with the feeling of his body separating from yours, you’ve now returned your awareness and finally loosened your grip on the mop. no doubt, your left palm is red and white all the same due to how tightly you’ve been gripping the mop and your clothes.
oikawa peaks through the slits of the locker, pushes it gently when he deems it safe to go out, then hops out of the locker. he turns around and offers you a hand, but it’s so dark that you don’t notice; his eyes have adapted to see well in the dark due to the all nighters he pulls to watch his opponents’ recorded games.
you feel a hand grasp yours and pull you towards the room. you almost stumble and fall to the ground if it weren’t for oikawa standing right in front of you; instead of your face meeting the ground, your cheeks collide on a solid chest, and your arms unknowingly wrap around his waist. the hand that tugged on yours earlier is now placed on your upper back, securing you tightly inside his arms once again.
“w-what…”
“be quiet for a while, they might’ve heard something." i don’t hear anything, though. you try your best to listen outside for any possible audible sound, but you can’t heart anything. ah, whatever. if he can see better than me in the dark, then maybe he has better hearing than me, too.
”my heart’s beating so fast right now,“ he says out of the blue. you tilt your head up at him, your chin resting against his chest, but even in this distance, you can barely make out the details of his face. "oi, don’t make such a face this close.” he lets you go, but grabs his hand back onto yours. slowly, you both walk towards the door. he stops for a moment, and you can kind of see him place his right ear to the door, trying to hear if there’s any sound from outside.
“i think we can go out now. you go out first, i still have to change.” he opens the door slightly, sneaking a peek out and opens it further when he sees and hears no one out. “here you go.”
you were able to take a few steps outside before oikawa clamps a hand on your shoulder and blows into your ear once again. you feel your face grow hotter, and you feel the shivers run down your spine in slow motion. you’ve shivered so many times today but you still aren’t used to the feeling of it.
you turn your head to look at him, but your eyes are still adjusting to the light, so your vision blurs for a few seconds before sharpening to the sight of oikawa smirking down at you; the light accentuates his features nicely, and you’re reminded of the fact that he’s still shirtless before you.
“i knew it," he murmurs. "i knew you made a cute face.” he boops your nose lightly with his index finger and turns you back around. he leans into your ear once again, but this time he’s right behind you. he murmurs directly into your ear, his voice low and husky and raspy all at the same time, “i know your weakness now, but don’t try to show that face to anyone else, okay? only i get to attack you and see you like that before me.
from now on, i’ll go all out on you. be prepared, okay?”

Oikawa flaunting his volleyball/seijou wins to his crush in an attempt to impress her only for her to be like I don’t play volleyball I have no idea what you’re talking about 😂😂😂 thank you *sends you a million flying kisses 😘
A/N: you didn’t specify if you wanted headcanons or a scenario, so I went with a short scenario - I hope you don’t mind !! This was SO cute to write. Also, i sent u a forehead kiss in return, it should arrive in 3-5 business days 😘Word count: 522
_________
‘I spent years learning my jump serve technique,’ Oikawa boasted, ‘I saw it on television one day and decided to start learning.’
[Y/n] couldn’t devise an explanation as to why Oikawa constantly rambled about volleyball to her. She wasn’t even a part of any sports clubs.
‘Everyone else on Aobajohsai has their strengths,’ Oikawa continued enthusiastically, ‘that’s why we’ve never lost a match. The team with the better six is stronger, right [y/n]-chan?’
‘… right.’
Well, they’d never lost a match against a team that wasn’t Shiratorizawa, but Oikawa didn’t want to mention that. She never really responded to his flirtation, so he decided to impress her with his team’s achievements.
It was almost ironic to him, considering that his ex girlfriend dumped him over his obsession with volleyball. She was right, though - his top priority will always be his volleyball career. Oikawa did love flirting with girls, but that was as far as his advances went.
‘We’ll be going to the interhigh preliminaries soon,’ Oikawa proudly stated.
‘That…’ she paused, ‘… sounds great,’ Oikawa found it disheartening that she never provided engaging responses. They were mere acknowledgements.
‘It is! Do you think we’ll win our next match, [y/n]-chan?’ he gave her his signature wink.
‘… yes.’
‘Well, we’re already ranked in the top four volleyball teams in the Miyagi Prefecture,’ Oikawa bragged, ‘but we’re aiming to take Shiratorizawa’s place at the top. Makki and Mattsun -’ Oikawa interrupted himself, ‘ - oh, Makki’s our wing spiker and Mattsun’s our middle blocker,’ he explained.
Jump serve, middle blocker, wing spiker, interhigh-preliminaries… [y/n] had no clue as to what any of those terms meant. ‘Oikawa-kun,’ she interjected, ‘I-I don’t…’
Blood rushed into Oikawa’s heart instantly, causing it to beat at a quicker pace. ‘What is it, [y/n]-chan?’ he grinned amiably, ‘you can tell me anything!’
Whenever girls began their sentences that shyly, a confession always followed; but this time, he was ecstatic to hear it. Oikawa was relieved that his efforts led to the result he’d been aiming for.
‘… I don’t play volleyball,’ a rosy hue dusted itself onto [y/n]’s cheeks, ‘I never…. know what you’re talking about.’
The brew of confusion and surprise on Oikawa’s face caused her rosy cheeks to turn into a dark scarlet. ‘O-Oikawa-kun!’ she exclaimed with concern, ‘I’m so sorry, you were always excited when you talked about volleyball, I never wanted to interrupt you,’ she waved her hands apologetically.
One of Oikawa’s strengths was maintaining a calm demeanour. He had no issue immediately recovering from [y/n]’s unexpected confession, delicately grabbing her hands and engulfing them with his larger, calloused ones.
‘I can show you how to play, if you want,’ Oikawa smiled confidently. Genuinely. He was constantly surrounded by fans who fancied him for superficial reasons. Iwaizumi knew him well - Oikawa’s smiles towards them were never genuine. It was a facade he crafted out of politeness.
That was what consumed him with benevolence the most - the fact that his expressions towards her were genuine.
[Y/n] let out a barely audible gasp in response to the gesture. ‘I’d love to learn about volleyball,’ she beamed.

The Second Uniforms - Haikyuu!! Light Novel Vol. 10
As requested by anon. Sorry it’s taking so long! It’s a cute little chapter between Kiyoko-san and Yacchan. Translation under the cut.
The first day of Spring High, the night after Karasuno High School Volleyball Club won their highly-anticipated first match. Once they’re done with the team meeting for the match against Hyogo representative Inarizaki High School tomorrow, the members walk out to their respective rooms in the ryokan. Among them, their advisor and coach Takeda Ittetsu calls out to the manager Shimizu Kiyoko.
“I just got a message from the committee the regarding the uniform for the match against Inarizaki tomorrow....”
Shimizu turns around and calmly replies, “Is it the second uniform?”
Takeda is caught off guard by how good her guess is. “Yes, exactly,” he answers while pushing his glasses up.
“I’ll get them ready for the match,” Shimizu bows and exits the room. Walking down the corridor, she lets out a chuckle. She’s reminded of a certain happening after school the other day.
---
“Second... uniform?”, asks the first year manager Yachi in the club room one day before practice.
“Yep,” Shimizu searches inside the locker and takes out two paper bags from the cleaners. “There’s another one beside what we usually wear,” she adds while taking out a piece from the paper bag. Seems like they have been left inside the paper bags all this while, the plastic cover from the cleaners are still on. “Here, this one,” she passes it over to Yachi.
“Ah, right,” Yachi opens up the plastic cover and takes a look at the content.
“Orange... uniform? Which school’s...” Just as she says that, she notices the word ‘Karasuno’ written on the chest.
“Wait, it’s ours!?”
Shimizu laughs looking at Yachi’s popped out eyes, “Yep.”
Karasuno’s uniform is black with orange accent on the collar and side area, but this one is the complete opposite -- orange with black accent.
“I didn’t know we have this inverted version. It’s like Nishinoya-san’s uniform. Somehow having so many of them seems blinding to my eyes....”
Tumblr media
“It’s my first time seeing this, but did we use to wear it a lot?” Yachi continues while bringing the uniform up towards the lights.
Shimizu lightly hums while jogging her memories. “Hmm, I don’t think I’ve ever seen it used in an actual match. Hmm, I wonder....”
“So it’s that uncommon,” Yachi nods. But suddenly, “Ah, but,” and Shimizu looks at her.
“Um, why do we need two different types? Even if we have two matches in one day, to purposefully get one in different colors...”
“That’s because it will be confusing if the opponent team has the same colors.”
Shimizu proceeds to explain, “Remember Aoba Jousai and Datekou? Their uniform colors are similar right?”
Aoba Jousai, the team led by the prefecture’s number one setter Oikawa Tooru, and Datekou, the team boasting the iron wall block, come to Yachi’s mind.
“Ah, right. Both of them have white uniforms with green accent.”
“Yep. That’s why when they are having a match against each other, one of them will be wearing its second uniforms. You can pay attention to it next time.”
“Yes!” Yachi neatly notes down ‘Second Uniform’ on her notebook that appears out of nowhere. Since joining the club, Yachi has been taking detailed notes daily and memorizing things like volleyball rules and the managers’ duties. Looking at her serious junior, Shimizu feels at ease knowing that she can rely on her. But right at this point, that same junior mutters as she jots down, “Seijou vs Datekou match... looked confused...” while trembling.
Shimizu smiles lightly at that, but quickly turns into a serious expression. “There’s also another important reason,” she adds quietly.
“Uh, ah, right! Wh- what would that be?”
Still holding her pen and notebook, Yachi quickly straightens up. Shimizu moves closer and continues in hushed voice.
“You know that Spring High matches are aired on TV, right?”
“Ah, yes. If I’m not mistaken, there will be TV personality too, right?”
Shimizu nods, “Yep. So at that time, if both team have similar color schemes...”
“Color schemes?”
Yachi’s mom works at a design company, so hearing about colors she reflexively leans forward. Shimizu then whispers into her ear, “... it won’t be TV-worthy.”
Hearing those unexpected words, Yachi was at a loss for words.
Uh, TV-worthy is... What is TV-worthy again? Something like Insta-worthy? Eh, but... Ehh?
Seeing the flabbergasted Yachi, Shimizu lets out a chuckle. “Just kidding, it’s just a rumor.”
“Rumor....” Yachi lets out a sigh and feels her strength has left her.
Still feeling drained, Yachi thinks that it’s true TV might do something like that. After all, the set on TV shows are always so bright, it looks like Christmas light-up everyday. The wardrobe too, always stylish and pretty.... A match between black and black, surely it would be a bit too gloomy. And if it’s too gloomy, it can’t be good for the ratings... Yep, the bright colors, like this second uniform bright, would be better for TV ratings. Yep. But, surely the opponent team would’ve thought as much. That means we have to pick the TV-worthy color first....
“That means... the color that will win against any color scheme. We need to research on the strongest color....”
Seeing the serious look on Yachi’s face, Shimizu went, “Hm?”
“Ah... no, I mean, so- sorry! I was just thinking about the TV ratings...”
“TV ratings?”
Tilting her head, Shimizu puts the uniform back into the paper bag. “Well, anyway, I couldn’t recall when was the last time we took these second uniforms to the cleaners, so what about we take them there once more before Spring High?”
“Ah, yes! Th- that’s true! ... Ah, that’s not it! I’m sorry for troubling you. I’ll do it!” Yachi comes to her senses and takes the uniforms from Shimizu’s hand.
Looking at the uniforms, Shimizu mutters, “Come to think of it, I heard that you shouldn’t leave clothes on the plastic covers.”
“Eh, is that so?”
Having stored the uniforms back, the two take the occasion to tidy up the club room a bit while having a chitchat.
“It’s something about the lack of ventilation causing the germs to grow more easily instead.”
“Eh.... I always put my clothes on the drawers with the plastic cover on. I’m such an uncivilized person!”
“No, me too. Despite knowing about it, I left the uniforms on the plastic cover.”
Hearing that, Yachi brings her hands to her head, “Again.... I didn’t think before I speak and said something rude.... I wish the ground would just open up and swallow me.”
“No, Hitoka-chan, look, don’t go hiding inside the locker please.”
Leaving the tasks at the gymnasium to Yachi, Shimizu brings the second uniforms down to Uchizawa Cleaning. She too will be retiring once Spring High ends, so she wants to give Yachi the chance to get used to the manager’s duties while she can.
Leaving the school, she walks down the slope and reaches the shopping district soon after.
Ever since the spring of her 3rd year, the look of Karasuno shopping district that she always frequents seems to have changed. Of course, it’s not that the shopping district itself that has changed, it’s her feelings about it.
Spring - Ukai Keishin who leads the Karasuno Shopping District Team took up the coach position on the volleyball club, and what used to be a plain old shopping district has turned into a shopping district filled with familiar faces of the alums. Be it the appliances store or the supermarket, they’re all the businesses of the alums who always come cheering for Karasuno in matches and bring them foods.
Nowadays when she sees someone from the alums team on the shopping district she’ll bow slightly to greet them. When she visits their shops they’ll give her some discount. The little things that weren’t there before brightens her time there now. Somehow it gives the feeling of home town.
Then there’s also the shop she’s entering now, Uchizawa Cleaning, that also belongs to one of the volleyball club alums.
“Welcome!”
The one manning the counter is the alum Uchizawa Hidenori himself. Not only does he cheer for Karasuno at matches, he also drove them all the way to Tokyo for their summer training camp. They really owe this senior of Coach Ukai a lot.
Shimizu lowers her head and passes the paper bag, “If you please.”
Taking out what’s inside, Uchizawa recognizes the second uniform straight away.
“Ah, I know this.”
“If you please,” she lowers her head once more. Uchizawa looks fondly at the orange clothes in his hand.
“You guys are actually going to Nationals, huh?”
Not knowing how to answer, Shimizu simply nods. Uchizawa adds, “Ah, I mean, see, in the prefectural matches there isn’t really any school wearing the same colors right?”
“Ah....” That’s true, Shimizu notices. They’ve never worn them this past year. Within the prefecture, there’s no need to.
“Other than practice matches, there isn’t really any chance to wear them. So you can say these uniforms are something that you can only wear if you keep winning through official matches.” Uchizawa explains while looking at the radiant uniform under the light.
Looking at his figure, something comes to Shimizu’s mind. Did Uchizawa-san and Coach Ukai have the chance to wear these uniforms in a match? There were probably a lot of chances to wear them when we were called a powerhouse - when The Little Giant was there... Come Spring High in January, will our own team have the chance to wear them...
While thinking about the Tokyo Gymnasium that she has yet to see, she can only stare at the uniform that connects the smile of the Karasuno alum before her and the feelings of so many other people together.
“Right,” Uchizawa’s mind seems to switches back to his job. “While we’re at it, should I use delicate wash? No extra charge.”
“Ah, no, please put it on heavy duty. Inside the plastic cover the germs have...”
“Hm?”
“Ah, no, it’s nothing.”
Seeing Shimizu turning red and looking down at the floor, Uchizawa can only tilt his head in wonder.
---
Walking back to the girls’ room at the ryokan, Shimizu takes out the neatly folded second uniforms from the heap of luggage there. This time she took them out of the plastic covers as soon as she got them back from the cleaners.
Noticing the orange color in the room, Yachi comes.
“Um, could it be that tomorrow...”
“Yep, we’ll be wearing this one.”
Hearing that, her shoulders jolt. “At... at last, the time to be TV-worthy...”
“That’s right.”
The two managers look at each other and laugh.
The second uniforms - the proof that they have won through the prefectural qualifier. To Hinata and the other first years, this will be their first time wearing them. Looking forward to everyone’s reaction wearing them tomorrow, the managers continue their preparation.
