MHA 412 leaks (rant)
Iam not a fan of the leaks I really am not because wtf is going on?!?!?!
Tumblr media
1) THIS !!! THIS WAS ONE OF THE WORST THINGS TO COME OUT OF THE FLIPPING MANGA. What the actual hell like there is no izuku introspection and also I get the idea that's being displayed here but it was done horribly in my opinion. It also doesn't make sense on applying this ideology to shigaraki considering that he literally told shigaraki he could never forgive him because of what he did to Eraserhead.
Look not giving up on the idea of people being able to change could be a good thing and idea that could be explained through midoriyas character and making him a symbol of hope. However, that doesn't excuse the horrible stuff going on between bakugo and izukus dynamic. Izuku has clearly been shown having negative feelings towards bakugo (as he should) and we should of seen those negative feelings explored this to me feels like an utter BS of an excuse to be like no izuku is just naturally a living saint which IS ALSO UTTER BS. We have seen izuku get mad and fight like a lunatic a whole bunch and now Iam supposed to believe that izuku can never feel a bad or negative emotion towards anyone because of this?!?!!?!?! The bakugo redemption fails due to many things but the main thing is the lack of izukus thought. about it.
Here is the thing YOU CAN FEEL NEGATIVE EMOTIONS AND HATE SOMEONE BUT STILL HAVE HOPE THAT THEY CAN CHANGE AND BECOME A BETTER PERSON but horikoshi does this to make bakugo look better?!?!? Why?!?!
Tumblr media
2) ALSO THIS?!?!?!!
Wdym izuku has to give up the thing that he had to gain so he can win?!?! How is he gonna win is horikoshi going to make this a vestiges fighting eachother type of bs whole izuku defends himself quirkless somehow ??!?!??!??! Also why is it that he is THE ONLY CHARACTER WHO IS GETTING CONCEQUENCES?!?! Like you have tokoyami and hawks who lost their quirks but gained it back because AFO died so why not ( NO CONCEQUENCES) and then you have bakugo who LITERALLY CAME BACK FROM THE DEAD (no concequences) the only real concequences there were are some injuries then and there but that's it nothing big for the major and fan loved characters happend they're all alive and fighting.
If the point was that izuku could of become a hero with no quirk then shouldn't if he just become a quirkless hero instead of suffering getting a Quirk more suffering more suffering losing a quirk and more suffering!?!?
3) Also don't even get me started on how dirty shigarakis character is being done this guy wants to destroy stuff for fun not because he believes that the only way to rebuild a society suitable for him and his friends is by destruction or another ideology no he is just a psycho who wants revenge against THE WRONG PERSON!!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4) wasted potential. IZUKUS LACK OF INTROSPECTION AND POV MADE THIS HORRIBLE. like it could of been good but it fell off horribly due to the fact that he didn't have any development and he is just jumping to ideologies. I think this ideology suits him but in theory he hasn't developed enough for him to have it in the first place. Also the lack of pov also makes us DOWNPLAY HIS BATTLE Strategy AND THE THINGS HE IS DOING. LIKE YALL AREN'T DEEPING THAT HE CANT BREATHE THIS GUY MAY DIE OR GET SEVERE BRAIN DAMAGE BUT IS STILL FIGHTING LIKE A MADMAN and I don't see people talking about it all Iam seeing is "oh bakugo parallel hehe bs". Horikoshi then goes on to show us panels of izuku training and you can tell there isn't a lot because NO ACADEMIA ARC AND BAD PACING OF STORY. The idea of him destroying society's pain rug could of been cool but again not enough pov or introspection or anything
Tumblr media
5) WHY IS STAR AND STRIPES HERE?!?!?!! Like did shigaraki steal her quirk because I forgot and if he did then why hasn't he killed izuku using her quirk that's so stupid. Horikoshi has told us and shown us that shigaraki wants death and destruction. He ruined shigaraki and is he now downplaying his intelligence or something or is this some plot hole because why is she here and why isn't her quirk being utilised also what happend to shigaraki using danger sense?!?!! Like I swear that stuff was active last chapter so what happend now can the vestiges just deny and not give him access or something but if that's the thing he can freely use ragdolls quirk.
ALSO SHIG AND IZUKU ARENT THAT WELL DEVELOPED AND ONLY HAVE PARALLELS THROWN AROUND WITH NO INTERACTIONS SO HOW IS THIS GONNA WORK

So here’s a thought: in the latest chapter; Kudo’s transfer causes Deku and Tomura to relive and mix memories of first meetings with/opening up to future friends. Considering how Kudo was the one who met with and reached out to Yoichi; do you suppose it’s possible we could see the rest of the transfers bring forth memories thematically relevant to the sacrificed OFA user? And if so, can we guess what these memories could be?
Hmm, it might be tough given how most of the OFA vestiges are...not the most fleshed out characters MHA's ever produced, but I’d like to take a crack at it.
Tumblr media
~En: memories of Danger & survival We’ll be going in the order I roughly think Deku will shoot the vestiges over, even if that means starting with some especially basic ones. (I'll also be avoiding memories they were both there for since they'd be uninteresting.) For the case of En, the most fearful of the group; that'll be a simple set of times these two were each in danger.
For Deku; that could mean facing Machia or Redestro, although I'd also love him to see some visions of heroes like Endeavor or Star & Stripe coming for his life as well. If he wants Tomura's perspective, he should get his perspective on heroes trying to kill him. And there's quite a few to pick for Tomura to see from Deku; the Zero-Point robot, Muscular, Muscular again, Lady Nagant, ...maybe Gentle?
Tumblr media
~Bruce: memories of loss & what comes after To keep things simple still, both of these are two moments (+ surrounding context) they each saw an ally die to a villain. The same villain: Overhaul.
Deku would get to see Overhaul kill Magne right in front of the League. Tomura would see him kill Sir Nighteye in front of his interns. Then as I theorized previously, we could get too see one or both of them experience the blended memory of beating fused Overhaul into the ground and taking his arms for great justice & greater revenge.
Tumblr media
~Nana: memories of family & allies (Also, since the effect should be pretty strong by now, and also because it's interesting, let's suppose they may start actually experiencing memories now instead of just playing them in the background.)
For Deku; Perfect as it may seem, it's a bit early to see the Shimuras, so this might instead mean seeing some lower stakes memories with the League. Maybe their training with Machia, maybe some early recruitment moments if that doesn't step on Kudo's thematically relevant memories. Really just check out @codenamesazanka's post here for some great ideas; with special mention going to Tomura sympathizing with Bakugou because he was chained up at the sports festival. I'd love for Deku to see Tomura directing his humanity to League members like Twice, but humanity directed towards Bakugou would be a great foot in Deku's door. (Which of course means the best thing for Deku to see each such kinds of Tomura's humanity, for Deku to compare.)
Tumblr media
For Tomura; Oh there's a plethora of choices for Class 1A hangout moments he could see. Although to be honest...I've not been the most invested in these moments, so I can't say which'd be most impactful for Tomura to see. I'm a villain fan, what can you expect?Although if I had to guess, knowing this series and whose memories we're talking about, it'll be something focused on Bakugou. Call it a hunch.
Tumblr media
(Though it'd be nice if we did get to see Inko again instead. And I'd laugh if this was how we got to see Deku's dad at long last.)
~Banjo: memories of…okay kind of struggling here since there’s not much to Banjo. Honestly think he might get stolen instead since his quirk's such a lifeline & Tomura could probably steel more than one quirk by the end of this. But if he does get launched; maybe he could cause…memories of friendship? Or of high emotions?
For Deku; that might mean seeing memories of the League working together, maybe in Daika. Or speaking of Daika, maybe it could be Shigaraki’s city destroying awakening. Or maybe the time the League got ambushed & restrained in their bar and Tomura yelled at All Might just how much he hates him.
Tumblr media
For Tomura; there are also quite a few of Deku’s memories that could qualify here. Maybe the fight with Muscular, maybe his 2nd fight with Bakugou, or maybe it could fittingly be the time Uraraka and Shinsou saved him from Banjo’s own quirk.
Tumblr media
~All Might/Toshinori: memories of (not) being rescued.
For Deku; I think this would go as I described in this post: a mixed memory of him rescuing Bakugou from the sludge villain combined with Tenko wandering the street; resulting in desperately trying to pull Bakugou out from the sludge for hours or days while people pass him in the street, until he finally drags sludge!Bakugou to the bridge to encounter AFO. If he wants Tomura's perspective and see what drove him to villainy, this one's a big part of that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Shigaraki, this would be a far simpler memory; but an impactful one too I think. The meeting with All Might where Deku was told he can be a hero. How Tomura would respond to those words, I can’t be sure. Maybe it’d be as meaningful to him as it was to Deku. Perhaps he’ll dismiss the words as just an old dream he doesn’t care for any more, or acknowledge their meaninglessness coming from someone else’s memory. Or if I’m so lucky; maybe he’ll even think back on all the members of the League & other criminals looking to him to make the world they feel safe in and say to All Might “what do you think I’ve been doing?” (Probably not but I think it’d be cool. A guy can hope.)
Tumblr media
~Yoichi: memories of their origin.
For Deku; this would obviously be seeing the crying Tenko crying outside of his house because he was abused by his family. Maybe also the events earlier in that day seen in ch.235 too. This would lead to Deku attempting the thing quite a few readers see as the natural conclusion to this memory sharing; Deku reaching a hand out to save the crying child…and it won’t work. I mean duh; this is a memory. He can’t talk to or do anything for the past version of Tenko; all he can do is learn, all he can do is watch the deaths of the Shimuras transpire and hope he gets something out of it that’s worth losing all of OFA.
Although, if I may propose one interesting twist in this: I’ve been theorizing for a while now that AFO could’ve taken the Shimura family’s quirks and hidden them & their vestiges in Tomura. This wouldn’t be my favourite way to bring that up (I’d rather they first meet with Tomura instead); but suppose that allows Deku to talk to the Shimuras as he lives through Tenko’s last day with his family? Could at least be neat.
Tumblr media
And for Tomura; I can’t think of a more appropriate Origin-y chapter than chapter 1 page 1: Izuku getting bullied by Bakugou. Maybe they’ll also both be in the same place (we did suppose Deku would meet the crying child above after all), and Tenko could take the place of the kid young Izuku was protecting. I could see Tomura being quite moved by the image…before scoffing. Deku, his self-claimed ‘hero’ who’s been getting in his way and attacking his mind this whole time? Protecting him? And from Bakugou of all people, or anyone else Deku saw as a hero? Lol. Lmao even! Maybe if it was AFO; afraid Bakugou prevented something so convenient from happening though. But as far as Tomura's seen; Deku will save him from anyone & anything except the heroes who mean him harm. A bit like his mom & grandparents with Kotaro. But then maybe he could see Bakugou actually attack Deku, like really beating him up, and it could cause him to wonder…why? Why would Deku then forgive him? Rescue him? Work along side someone who’d treat him like that?
I don’t think any basic-arse heroic symbolism that hasn’t even reflected Tomura’s reality so far would really change his viewpoints or anything. But that question might nudge them. Might introduce the idea that the worst, most powerful people with no big incentive to change, can do so anyway. So maybe, just maybe, Tomura doesn't need to kill them and wash their influence clear as the only way forward for his villainous ilk.

Quick thoughts on recent MHA chapter 410.
-AFO was always going to die to the Rewind. Bakugo didn’t kill him. He held him back from Izuku just long enough for Rewind to finish.
-It’s disappointing that Hori showed us Yoichi looking sad at the end of the prior chapter, but didn’t include him anywhere in this chapter. It’s a strange choice.
-As is always true, the current rough translations are strange. The first page initial translation has AFO remarking that, with how Tomura looks, the AFO vestige has “died”, so he lost his trump card, but he can still win this? WTF does that even mean? It’s AFO’s POV so is he saying he can still win in another way?
-AFO actually says “Yoichi, I need you”. That’s very different than how he’s spoken about Yoichi prior. It seems to be more about how he knows he’s about to die and wants his twin. Not a “I have to have you”, “You need to be mine”, “You’re mine”, but an honest “I need you because I’m about to die”.
-Why the FUCK couldn’t Hori just add a quick panel of Yoichi when AFO says that? Why isn’t Yoichi shown in this chapter at all? Drives me nuts.
-I like how AFO’s final thoughts align with the backstory we got. He had a fucked up childhood and never made any good memories, so he wanted everyone else to feel as he did. He wanted everyone to look at him(nod to wanting to be the Demon Lord from the comics) and needs his brother. His true feelings and he can’t stand it so he goes out screaming about how he can’t handle all the emotions.
-So, the AFO vestige is “dead”, but Tomura still has the Quirk? That doesn’t add up to literally anything related to vestiges we’ve seen thus far. Stars and Stripes was able to destroy vestiges within AFO and then those powers were lost. AFO ate vestiges so they wouldn’t go against him. So, is the AFO vestige really gone? If the Quirk is still being used then the vestige of that Quirk is still there.
-So, Tomura was able to take Danger Sense INCLUDING the vestige associated with the Quirk. Again, this contradicts the whole “AFO’s vestige is dead, but Tomura still has the AFO Quirk” thingy.
-WHERE THE FUCK IS YOICHI?
So, yeah. I’m a fan of AFO, but I always knew he was going to go out with Rewind. It’s just disappointing how he went out. Having Yoichi there, especially after the “Yoichi, I need you” would have made it better. I mean, don’t fucking show me Yoichi looking sad watching the end of Bakugo and AFO’s fight and then not have him around when AFO blips out of existence. Huge let down.
Obviously, we’re getting a Tomura redemption thing because of course we’re going to use AFO as the entire excuse as to why Tomura mercilessly killed hundreds of people throughout the series WITHOUT the AFO vestige and WITHOUT remorse.
Yeah know, I’ve still always wondered about the vault door in the realm of OFA. The shots we’ve gotten of it has always felt ominous and it begs the question as to why the door is there, all chained and locked up, in the first place. I’ve always thought that maybe there’s an AFO vestige or will be and the door is holding him back. It isn’t a stretch that AFO could now exist in the OFA world either through the twin thing or that a vestige pops up since he originally had the stockpiling ability that he gave Yoichi. I dunno. I think it would be kinda funny.
I’ll never not be salty at the lack of Yoich interacting with original AFO. So bad.

what's your opinion on the big 3? When I was hyperfoxed on this series they were the thing I care Abt the most (I enjoyed season 4, obv I'd change some stuff now but I still remember it being atleast ok)
I hate how dirty they did my girl nejire, as far as I'm aware they didn't even do anything with her after the whole pagent thing she just got a small backstory about how she was sad (don't know all of it I haven't been keeping up that well w the manga)
mirios not having a quirky and having to save eri (a girl who I can't imagine would be that skilled at the age she is and has been training on lizards to give his quirk back all together, I'd imagine it taking a few more months but bnhas time is shit so) and coming back in the war arc to punch one person and then basically do noting iicr
The only decently written one was amajiki, I wish they had more going on I think they have a fun dynamic (w them helping taking care of eri and me rlly liking idk what it's called but I love the fluff it brings) :(
Lots of mixed feelings, in all honesty. Lots of mixed feelings.
I'll admit, a big part of my mixed feelings about them is they showed up as the latest, 'Stomp on Izuku's everything' at the point in the story where it was becoming obvious that there was always something stomping on Izuku, and that gave me a bad first impression on them I've never been able to shake... which isn't helped by how they're connected to the clusterfuck of Nighteye, of all people, which is kind of my whole thing with Mirio (warning; I am biased):
As a person, he's obviously nice, but as a character, basiclly his entire reason for existing was, 'give Izuku an existential crisis' and I don't think I've ever forgiven him for that, really. His entire character is just bigger, stronger, older, happier, more capable, more confident, more successful, more loved Izuku, who had a Quirk his whole life and only had to dig deep to find out how strong it, and he, was all along.
Unironically. It's....
It's a really bad look, to be blunt; he feels kind of like a bad fanfiction character written by a bad writer who wanted to put their super special OC in the story, except he's canon.
Since we've never seen him even think something unheroic, there's really nothing that distinguishes him from that impression factual statement, which, again, makes it hard for me to give a shit about him, or even remember him... which is a problem Hori seems to share, lol. It doesn't help that I loathe Sir Nighteye and that most of his development time is spent admiring him, to boot, and that his parts of the story are either empty or focused on a living plot device I can't quite like no matter how hard I try because of how blatant the emotional manipulation is about the biggest story breaking, SOD shattering plot device until Stars and Stripes showed up.
If he ever got any kind of development to flesh him out a human being rather than being either Izuku and/or a heroic archetype, it'd help, but beyond all of that his biggest personality trait is liking jokes, and that barely even comes up. Or, rather, considering both the Final Arc and his response to Bakugou's name, along with Nighteye's own tendencies, 'jokes', maybe.
He doesn't deserve it, I admit it, it's not his fault, but I just can't get past that. He also doesn't deserve to just be forgotten until his big moment of a butt joke, but... MHA, everyone. In all honesty, I'd just like him better if his entire story arc didn't exist in and as some of the worst parts of the Overhaul arc, but he's tainted by that fact.
I freely admit that I am unfairly biased against him, so take all of that with a mountain of salt.
As a side note though, god, the story doesn't seem to realize how badly Nighteye is using the poor kid; Mirio thinks Nighteye is training him because he's worthy, while Nighteye mainly seems to be doing it because he's the closest thing to an All Might clone he can get, bar him actually cloning All Might, even if he grew to like him for who he is. I'm not sure Nighteye ever thought of Mirio with just his Quirk as anything more than a temporary situation; even at the start of canon, when on his own merits he's rising to fame with how successful he is, Nighteye's overall focus is still about getting AFO into the kid.
I almost wish I could see Nighteye explaining how all of his training came down to getting All Might's Quirk, just to see MIrio react and tear Nighteye down a peg about it, except Hori's history of handling these kinds of things means he'd never be allowed to be properly offended on his own behalf, the poor bastard.
Moving on, Tamaki. Out of all of them, he's had the biggest of an on-screen story arc, and in a intellectual way his Quirk is easily the most interesting. Unfortunately, while he has a personality, it feels so bland at times that he's far easier to remember for his Quirk than who he is.
I liked his story, really, but at the time it was overshadowed by Mirio and his everything, and by the time he showed back up it was clear how irrelevant it and he was, so it was more about how (admittedly, very) cool he get his Quirk to be than it was about him, and with some brutal honesty, it's probably because his Quirk is so interesting that he even got that much focus beyond that initial arc by Hori.
And... Nejirie.
In a combat sense she's easily the best of them, really; Mirio is almost purely defensive, which limits him (especially if he's not surprising someone with it) while Tamaki's Quirk, while flexible, is so conditional in ways that can easily hold him back (we only ever see him fight with full preparation; if he's not gearing for a fight he'd be easy to ambush), and like a lot of things in the Final Arc, his big laser canon thing is.... questionable.
Nejirie, though, is just simply powerful. In a setting where everyone has one power and one main application of that power, where you either fly or blast things, but not both, she's the closest I've seen to a 'traditional' super hero, like you'd see in Marvel or DC.
At the same time, though, out of the three of them she least has a story, for obvious reasons, and it's a disgrace, really. If Hori had just spent some time on her, on the her backstory that apparently exists (yeah, I'm not sure where that is either), she could have been so interesting... but really, all she is is the Girl Teammate. Her personality traits are The Girl Teammate's personality traits. She's just The Girl Teammate stamped over all of the interesting stuff, and it's such a waste, it really is.
And finally, as a unit? The Big Three is a shiny toy that Hori forgot in the corner somewhere as soon as he got bored with it. He spent a few minutes oohing and aahing over them, focusing really hard on developing interesting powers, how they could be used, and how strong they were, only to start to lose interest as soon as those powers were established, and he was writing the three of them off before their introductory arc was even over.

Welp, guess I'm talking about My Hero Academia again because Season 6 is just mediocre. Actually, I'm not gonna talk about Season 6 as a whole more like the last few minutes of Season 6.
So near the end of Season 6 of MHA, Stars and Stripe is revealed and brings up the fact that she was directly requested by All Might to help against Shigaraki. People who have read the manga know that she is powerful, but I also believe that people who are anime only can also conclude that she's powerful because she's the USA's #1 Hero and she was called by All Might, Japan's former #1 Hero. So, why hasn't All Might requested her before the War Arc? Shigaraki is a damn threat not just to Japan, so why wasn't she requested to help against him? If she's USA's #1 she should at least be equal to Endeavor and Endeavor was giving Shigaraki a hard time in the war arc, well my answer is that she just wasn't thought of until after Deku's arc.
Tumblr media
Keep in mind that there was an American Character in MHA named Pony Tsunotori who was revealed to be an exchange student from the United States. Not once has Pony mentioned Stars and Stripe and how she looks similar to All Might.
Tumblr media
And that's because Stars and Stripe didn't exist until now, she's not a character, she's a plot device and not a good one. All Horikoshi had to do was make a few hints at her existence, but he forgot that other continents worldwide also have quirks. I'm probably gonna re-read the manga just to see her fate because I'm pretty sure that she's just gonna die. Horikoshi habitually kills or severely injures his female characters, but not so much with the male ones. Anyway, thank you all for reading and I hope you all have a nice day! ❤️

About the unfairness of Volume Covers.
Tumblr media
Ngl, I was so optimistic. All other final arc covers have been absolute bangers! Look at the Deku-Shigaraki one, or the BkDk one, they're sooo good! Plus, if we had, DkSk, DabiShouto, then why didn't we get a TogaChako? Like seriously? Was Toga that important that they decided to give her a solo cover when it could easily have been a TogaChako battle cover just to complete the Trilogy? Heck, this could have been a battle cover and no one would have a single complaint....
Tumblr media
Why is that, when it comes to Volume covers, Ochako gets the most shit treatment? Like she could have easily been a part of a lot of covers, and she could easily have gotten at least one solo Volume Cover but nope! 400+ chapters and not a single Ochako dedicated cover making her the only MC in MHA to not have a single volume cover.
Heck, even Toga, her antagonist got one but not Ochako.
Heck, even Star and Stripes got one but not our main female lead.
Heck, even Lady Nagant got one but not Ochako.
What's worse is that it's not even bad contextually but it's just soo random that it feels like a total disrespect to the amazing TogaChako arc that this volume covered.
Tumblr media
When, I saw the TogaChako colour page, I knew we weren't getting a TogaChako battle cover, plus it also had the Todoroki family drama, and Todoroki is Hori's favourite, so he had to be included somehow, despite already getting his cover in vol 36. But seriously this is so unfair.
If we count it chapter by chapter, TogaChako arc covers 5 CHAPTERS, i.e. 391 to ch 395 making it the CENTRAL arc for volume 39!! And not only that, her Quirk Awakening happened in this Volume!! She literally saved everyone's ass in the GUNGA battlefield!! (Yeah, she did that, it's not even an argument)
When Bakugo got an awakening, he got a solo cover. When Todoroki got an origins chapter, he got a solo cover. Then why not Ochako? The main trio literally appears in almost every other cover, then why not the same respect be extended to the main female lead?
Why is the unjust only to Ochako. It's not even the first time, this is happening. It happened in vol 22 too, when she saved Deku from BlackWhip in season 5 and Everyone was on cover, excluding her.
Tumblr media
Why? Because after the layout, Hori decided it looks better without her. What a shame.
Her own solo cover, is way overdue and what's worse is that since the series is on the verge of end, we will NEVER get a solo cover for her. All hope is lost.
And that's sad because Ochako is such a good character! And when people like SnS, Lady Nagant and even Mirio get a solo cover, then why not her?
I wasn't this angry with vol 33, because the art was phenomenal...Ochako was looking absolutely stunning!! The tears in her eyes, and the microphone in hands were the absolute highlight of that cover but this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They have some weird flag in the bg, they're sitting on that golden throne that is supposed to represent Mech AM or something....plus unlike Izuku-Chako-Iida, these three people have NEVER had a single interaction in the entire manga!! Vol 33 was about a young hero who has been overburdened with responsibility and his two best friends fighting the world to save him but vol 39?
It's meh.

Y’all I’m so upset about this jjk episode ngl. Nobara died for Yuji’s character development. As if seeing Sukuna waste shibuya to a crisp and Nanami explode before his eyes wasn’t enough. And people are gonna excuse this for realism...
Tumblr media
As if this isn’t still a story with characters that serve the plot. “Oh it’s thematic, it lands with the themes.” There’s nothing wrong with having a meaningless, tragic death. But as a writer you need to be careful bc it can tip from that to being wasted. And it’s not easy to do that. But Gege has done this several times, let us not forget Megumi’s status in the manga. You know how ppl felt when, if you’ve read mha, in regards to the whole Star n Stripes vs Shigaraki. And like ppl were upset that she came outta nowhere and essentially died barely accomplishing anything. And the whole thing felt pointless and a waste. That’s how some of this feels but it’s happened several times with more relevant characters.
Not all deaths, Nanami and Mechamaru’s deaths were done really well and they were tragic and meaningless. Which makes it frustrating bc he can write a good death. Idk it’s just some ppl, including me aren’t a fan of having characters they’ve invested in or fuck, the story itself has built up. For them to be prematurely sacrificed on an alter for the sake of a theme we all get by now. “Well that’s the point.” When you keep doing that over and over again, it loses its “spark” if you will. Now it’s just another day another body. And it starts to feel more like you don’t know what to do with this character so this is just the alternative. And those are just not good decisions.
I’m sorry for the rant but I’m heated. Love/hate relationship with this series fr 😭

If you fought thanos with all stones except the time stone what mha squad would you roll up with. You get one fully mastered quirk, 7 characters in their prime, could be heroes or villains, villains aren’t allowed to backstab the team though personalities could be conflicting like all for one and all might on the same team might not have the best synergy or trust. You and the team are guarding the time stone, everyone knows the situation to stop him from obtaining the stone and snapping.
Assuming this is MCU version of the character, because otherwise these characters have zero chances.
Whelp, I'm immediately taking Prime All Might, Prime All For One, Prime Tomura, Prime Deku, and Stripes and Stripes. You already know why they're here, and I'm not going to waste any time explaining otherwise. I will mention that Stars and Stripes could be useful for countering certain applications of the stones and diving in to give sudden protection to people. On top of that, I'll take Monster Overhaul. His multitude of powers is nice, as is the sheer control he has over the battlefield, but he'd be better as the resident healer. Then there is Prime Twice, who's here to provide distractions and to help me cheat by letting me take other members of the LOV. Kurogiri in particular, would be useful since he can play the same role that Doctor Strange did. And for my own, I'm taking "Rewind". Look, it's cheap, but I'm here to get the win, and if that means having to pull a Bakugou on baby version of Thanos, then so be it.

So I got an issue with quirks in MHA
Hori tried to make them into a sort of scientific thing and it’s restricted by biology and all that and during the beginning of MHA it is
But as it progressed it veered away from that, I think it started with the introduction of Shinsou
A verbal response to him is all it takes to be put under his quirk, how does that work though? He doesn’t plant something on them or anything he just talks
This continued with the introduction of the Big Three, specifically Tamaki
It says he able to transform parts of his body into things he’s eaten okay, how long until he can’t transform into them and how long does he have to wait until he can transform into them?
Then Nighteye can apparently see into the future somehow with no explanation, Eri being able to rewind the time of things, and it all comes to ahead with Star and Stripe being able to fucking manipulate reality with just an order why aren’t these things magic or some shit!?!?
I mean hell look at Aizawa’s quirk, he is able to temporarily shut someone’s quirk off unless they are mutative but the classification of quirks isn’t clear cut
There are plenty of quirks he’s successfully erased that should count as mutative
It’s just frustrating
Hi @professionalranter31👋,
That's a firm problem I have with MHA and quirks too. When Hori began MHA as you said Quirks, even emitters like Bakugou's, were somewhat scientific in nature. I.e Bakugou's Nitroglycerin is made as a scientific combination of his mother and fathers chemicals.
However as the story progressed and Hori valued POWER more and more, Hori began to take more and more liberties with what he previously established.
I.e Shinsou as you said, Hori doesn't explain how it works through just answering something he said, does Shinsou have to mentally lace his quirk in his question / the thing he wants you to answer? I presume so...
Also is there a limit to how much Shinsou can do this at one time?
What are the side effects of over using Brainwashing?
Does he have to concentrate to keep control over someone once they've answered him?
Hori tells us none of this, when previously, those aspects of someones quirk was all established - if not in the narrative then in the information page about their character.
Again, as you rightfully pointed out, the narrative only escalated in the lack of exploration of peoples quirk's as the story went on (as Hori's cast also became more and more bloated which I think is also part of the problem here.)
Hori seemed to not care so much anymore about the hard limits he set in place for peoples ability. With the newer cast members;
Nighteye foresaw so far into the 'future' that he saw All Might's death. Nighteye also specifies that this is if All Might continued hero work - leading me to believe his power is actually seeing a possible future which he views as absolute. I wouldn't have so much of a problem if this were addressed however when Nighteye 'foresee's' something that is treated as a fact/ hard outcome. So when Midoriya 'changes the future' it's treated like a WOW moment rather than a plot hole.
Eri. Her power levels are a massive problem. I've spoken about before how I view her as a narrative breaker. She's been shown to be able to rewind people out of existence and the heroes have shown no problem in using her when it suits them. So now the reader wonders why the heroes aren't using this little plot device whenever someone dies/ is dying, or to rewind AM to prime form or to give Aizawa back his eye and leg. All because Hori didn't bother give her power hard limits before slotting her in the narrative.
Talking of narrative breakers, Stars and Stripes. The biggest narrative breaker of MHA, to my understanding she touches something and says a rule upon it and that rule no matter how extreme is enforced. This is pure b.s. This removes all the stakes in the Heroes vs Villians fight since if there is a hero out there that can do this (and a personal friend of All Might's nonetheless!!) why not get her aid sooner!? Where's her quirks limits? Side effects to her quirk? Anything? S&S essentially is in a stage of Godhood. Yet Hori only uses her and kills her off to nerf ShigAFO!
As for Aizawa, I will need to rewatch/reread MHA to clarify on that. Since I believed his Erasure did work on mutant types. I had thought his Erasure simply made that mutative quirk's body part affected limp which isn't a problem if it does. However, if it isn't meant to, then you are right this is a problem.
Bringing this back to Bakugou, he's a key example of Hori caring about Biological limits in the beginning yet as time went on not doing so. Bakugou's supposed quirk side effects, wrist pain, shoulder pain etc are never shown. He's also able to pull moves A.P shot out his ass when his quirk should never be able to pull off that move. And am I really meant to believe that his explosions clear Izuku's smokescreen instead of kicking smoke everywhere/ making more smoke? Sure Hori...
TLDR - At the beginning of MHA, Hori cared about setting hard limts for quirks, and exploring how they worked. As time passed and the cast grew bigger Hori stopped caring about this and now only cares about power and flashy fights, which is very disappointing.

I know these were probably randomized but I feel so bad for Manga- he’s against Stars and Stripe right off the bat-
Therefore he gets the earliest propaganda of all time! He is my fixation blorbo and he is getting the full kablamo of my rambling!
So, fun fact, Manga Fukidashi was most likely meant as a joke character. What is he actually? ABSOLUTELY FUCKING BUSTED IN THE MHA UNIVERSE
The Japanese language has WAY more onomatopoeia than English, and considering some nonsense like ‘big’ is among them, you can imagine how out of hand that can get. The example I used canonically made a wall SO FUCKING BIG a zoom out was needed to the point you couldn’t see anyone anymore! From ONE word!
And taking even English onomatopoeia into consideration, the basic ‘boom’ and ‘zap’ can cause effects that, though certainly weaker, mean Bakugo and Kaminari may not even need to show up at times. Or even Iida, depending on how something like ‘zoom’ would work- the versatility is off the charts.
And what’s his downside? A sore throat. That’s it. Sure, I know how those are and they’re fucking horrendous, and the backlash kicking in after only a few uses can definitely be annoying, but good god if this kid discovers throat numbing spray the whole League may as well run in fear.
Legit his only weakness overall is an apparent over reliance on his quirk to do the things needed, leaving him basically open for up close combat- and if you’ve seen his images, you’d know he’s built like a twig.
But the thing is- a bit of training in that department and he reaches a whole new level of terrifying. Not only can he also silently relay information with his head if needed, it even means that SHINSO would be reduced to the scarf- especially since ‘shush’ is an onomatopoeia and that definitely silences shit.
In essence, this kid is like the Charlie Brown Christmas tree of MHA characters- doesn’t look impressive, and gets overlooked by everyone, but goddammit he can do what’s needed and very well at that
This reminded me of one post that said hypothetically Manga could kill AFO with a "kung pow penis" and that imagery still makes me laugh.
Anyway, polls drop tomorrow so best of luck!

Almost forgot to show the goods I got from Fan Expo SF yesterday!
Tumblr media
Natalie was so sweet, we had a fun little conversation about our fan merch collection, apparently she has a wall grid with a bunch of fanmade keychains & I told her about my current pin binder project. I also wished her luck bc I'm excited to see her take on Star and Stripe for the next season of MHA.
As for Monica, she adored the Tsu fan print I got from one of the vendors and even did a li'l "ribbit" when she signed it and also complimented my Sanrio x MHA collab shirt!
My brother and I got a kick out of Richard Horvitz when he signed our Invader Zim stuff while doing the chaotic irken's voice. He also let us know that the Helluva Boss cast is gonna do a big meetup for the upcoming Sacanime con, so we're hoping we can make it to that one too (Should I go, I'm considering doing an Octavia cosplay, if I have time to get the materials necessary).
Not sure if I should post it here cuz of face reveal, but I got two recordings: one of Maurice in character as The Brain asking me to help assist him in world domination, and the other of Rob in character as Yakko & Pinky making me and brother laugh. They both also gave us great advice on voice acting and it was truly a delight to meet them as I previously felt like my chances of meeting them was gonna be a "once in a blue moon" type of thing.
All & all, it was a pretty fun con (even tho my legs are killing me from walking around all day yesterday)!

MHA 413 leak rant
For a war commander kudo is really risking everything. Look kudo is a war commander so logically speaking he would prioritise and should prioritise people's lives more than whatever silly idea he has of freely giving shigaraki a free power up while leaving an Already exhausted midoriya defenceless?!?! Like he wants AFO/shigaraki dead but he thinks of an idea like that. Like it's a logical idea I guess I can see where it comes from but did we forget that shigaraki isn't a regular human and already is able to have the mind and physical capacity to deal with multiple quirks at once so how is the whole let's give him OFA to slow him down and make him enter an almost nomu state gonna work if we already know it kinda won't?!?!? Also the whole idea of the vestiges fighting tomura seems a bit iffy to me like?!?!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why is Bakugo here and why is he used as an example. Why is horikoshi trying to bring bakugo into everything it's getting boring and way too out of hand. Also what was the point in using bakugo as an example I don't get it kudo man you have seen bakugo abuse izuku for years and you're like yes lemme use your abuser as an example for how this transfer will act like?!?!?! It's a horrible idea honestly or may I say horribly introduced and executed but the point is there was no need for bakugo being here in this chapter in anyway shape or form so idk why he is there and why it has to be kudo that mentions him like seriously what was the point.
Tumblr media
I get the idea but it's low-key horrible. Ok i get where the whole idea came from but it's horrible and you need to admit that. Like the whole idea of having to defeat tomura from the inside because he is "too strong" isn't as great as it sounds. Even if they are successful with such an idea wouldn't tomura be able to sense it considering that he has danger sense. Also where is danger sense why don't we see shigaraki use it?!?! Did hori realise that izu would be in a major disadvantage did shigaraki just becomes dumber and forget to use it or is izuku trying to do something like toga did and attack him with the intention of helping him and not harm him? Guess we will never know the last statement cos of izukus lack of INTROSPECTION!!
Stars and stripes. (1) why is star and stripes in the OFA vestige world are the OFA and AFO vestige world's overlapping and becoming one or something because if they are then why can't the OFA vestiges fight shigaraki from there it makes no sense why izuku has to lose or transfer his quirks to shigaraki so they can kill him from the inside in. (2) why the hell isn't shigaraki dead?!?!? The whole point on why shig didn't die in the beginning when fighting star is because of his identity crisis which was an interesting plot point but executed horribly and now that we know that shigaraki recognises himself as a symbol of destruction and chaos shigaraki shouldn't he die?!?! I mean why is he just mentally injured and showing tenko or something why isn't he dead? It makes no sense is horikoshi saying that tenko and shigaraki aren't the same person because if they aren't why is shigaraki still alive and why the hell is it that the crack is tenko or something or a sad child it makes no sense. The whole plot point doesn't make sense like SHIGARAKI AND TENKO ARE THE SAME PERSON WHY IS HORI SAYING THEY AREN'T?!?!
Tumblr media
Izuku, poor izuku. This chapter really really shows that horikoshi doesn't really care about izuku and how much character development he lacks and it's just sad. The vestiges realise that he doesn't wanna let go of OFA because he views it as a gift from his favourite hero and that's it. (1) this in my opinion shows how much all might and izuku lack in their relationship. Izuku still views all might as a grand hero or some bs like that and not as a flawed person and father figure he really cares about and is connected to through quirk and blood. (2) the lack of izukus introspection. Look I go on and on about this I know I do but it really doesn't help Izuku's character and the way horikoshi tries to depict and illustrate his character. I think it would of been an ironic thing that deku the word that stands for a nobody and a wooden doll is used for izuku and we see his character become a doll who has to strip all his feelings and sacrifice everything for the sake of the world and nothing but horikoshi low-key doesn't do this properly and I am pretty sure that's not even his plan fro izuku which makes it suck even more. (3) we are consistently told in this chapter how izuku feels or how he is supposed to feel and we don't see what he feels which to me is utter bs considering that this is his fight and that he is going through some tough stuff rn. ALSO HOW THE HELL CAN IZUKU Individually TRANSFER QUIRKS?!?!? OR IS IT JUST FOCUSING ON THE IDEA THAT SHIGARAKI WILL STEAL A VESTIGE NEXT
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All might? Honestly speaking it's cool that we got an all might interaction but it didn't offer much like we caught up with what he is doing and how he is but that's kind of just it for me. We didn't get anymore like it may of felt out of the blue and wants necessarily paid much attention to which I guess I might be complaining too much but ehh he was just there nothing much 🤷‍♀️ he kind of useless rn. Also the idea of all might sensing izuku was that supposed to be a dad might moment where we see how they are connected in an inseparable way because if it is I feel like this chapter low-key contradicted itself with it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ps this is my opinion but MHAs writing has gotten into a much more devastating state lately and I feel like horikoshi really can't be bothered but imma still sticks round for the ending just cos I can.

BnHA Ch.364 leak reactions:
AFO didn’t steal Jeanist’s quirk back in Kamino, so he has to steal random pants now. (If rewound AFO were to arrive at UA naked, would he end up in a spare gym uniform?)
AFO says this body will die but it’s okay because he “passed the baton” to Shig….yeeeeaaaah, not buying it. Also, unclear if AFO will rewind himself into nothingness, because that would give him very little time to have a big impact…and what was he saying about desperate villains?
SHIGABOWL! YAASSSSS! Compete for Tomura’s favor!!! He deserves people being nice to him.
Edgeshot does something useful! He, uh, dies to become Bakugo’s heart. Wooo, Katsuki & Toya with their regenerated tissue!! But also…Edgeshot dying to revive Bakugo still leaves the heroes minus one of their pros. They’re thinning in numbers because there’s so many things for them to protect and save.
Nope, still don’t like Star and Stripe, even if she’s got the right spirit in saying adults have to help the younger generation. And I still don’t think the U.S. involvement here is a good thing for Izuku (or MHA’s Japan in general). I feel like All Might reaching out for her hand is, like, the Americans fantasizing and projecting that Japan’s #1 “passed the baton” to them.
I mean, remember this gem from Agpar?
Tumblr media
Politics aside, I’m impressed with Horikoshi’s rendering of the White House and the Oval Office!!! Especially well done on the desk!!

Controversial take on Shigaraki
Shigaraki is getting a lot of hate now, more than ever, and I won't justify him, I get it. It's legit.
But somehow I never thought about him as a real villain. I started MHA from the anime, and until season 3 he was quite bland to me. During the USJ attack I even thought he was gonna be only a small boss, not the major antagonist, and when he reappeared I was surprised. His motives were shallow, and his childish nature irked me.
Then the Shie Hassaikai came up and I thought: "Finally! Real villains!". It was the first time after Stein and AfO I enjoyed the villains, but the way Shigaraki presented himself to Overhaul struck me: he was more firm, more charismatic, more confident, and I liked it.
But it was My Villain Academia (obviously) that made me reconsider his character altogther, not only because of his past, but also about his resolution. His resilience while fighting Machia, his developement in his beliefs, the relationship that united him to his comrades, the way AfO groomed him, the unlocking of his true powers... I finally understood why everybody referred to him as "The King".
Again, I don't want to justify him for his crimes. He is a villain, he terrorized people, he kidnapped a kid and plots to destroy everything, but when I try to recall if he actually killed relevant people or characters the fans love (that's the reason why you hate a character, not just because "I wAnT tO dEsTrOy ThE wOrLd", that's unoriginal and too common), almost nothing came to my mind.
(MANGA SPOILERS AHEAD!)
He decayed his entire family and his house, but he was a little kid who had just gotten his Quirk. He was scared, hurt. He felt fear and joy at the same time, but the experience was traumatic to him nonetheless.
He never killed the students, and all of his attacks actually failed (USJ, the Nomus in Hosu outshined by Stain and contained by the heroes, the camping which led AfO to prison and the LoV to lose their base... )
He took care of Overhaul. Brutally, yes, but he didn't kill him even though he could have. "I want to destroy everything that pisses me off" he said, and he clearly stated that he hated Overhaul.
During the fight in Deika he destroyed the entire city and in doing so killed and decayed plenty of the MLA members, but they were villains too, people organizing a coup d'etat and aiming to take the power.
After awakening during the first war, he decayed many things and Midnight died, but not directly by his hand.
Stars&Stripes almost sacrified herself, but she managed to destroy some of AfOs quirks along the way.
Currently he's fighting, but nobody died yet. Yes, he injured Bakugo, but he survived and is ready to fight back.
Most of all, I think most people forget the most important thing: He's not Shigaraki Tomura anymore.
He's All for One. Or, at least, his mind is buried deeply under AfO's influence. Yes, he "agreed" to this, but it's AfO who's ruthless and doesn't give a fuck about anybody, not even his "son" and heir. His son and hair whose eyes lighted up when Mirio mentioned him not having friends. His son and hair whom Izuku saw through OfA as a scared little kid.
I don't know. I just can't hate him. It's AfO I loathe and despise, and I really wish Tomura will decay that piece of shit in the end.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Other than BakuDeku, have you ever mentioned all your favorite characters and why?
It's hard to name a character I don't like (I mean, there's Mineta, but believe it or not he has at least one or two aspects to him I still find interesting). Horikoshi excels at character creation/design in my opinion. Katsuki and Izuku are my top two obviously, but I relate so much to Shouto sometimes it hurts (there's a reason I don't like to write meta about him too often, because it'd get a little personal). I have a special soft spot in my heart for Aizawa, and I think Mina is underrated. Oh gosh and Kaminari is so lovable. All the students are precious beans, really.
Since I was won over by the students more than anything, I wish we got more incidental stuff with the villains so I could enjoy them in that way. The villain who shows the most fun character for me is Mr. Compress. I have my own views on the League of Villains as characters that I don't see much of from the rest of the fandom (to me they're more like a representation of the lost generation and the disillusioned youth--a social problem for society to grapple with, not so much philosophical antagonists or justified radical freedom fighters). They're emotional expression first and foremost, and they just co-opt whatever movements are around them to sway future allies with similar emotions, which tricks said allies into believing it's the movement or philosophy the League truly represents rather than the League's disillusioned zeitgeist. Since there isn't much fandom discussion of the villains in this way, I just don't find myself engaged in fandom stuff for them. But on the rare occasion I find a post or something that does take this approach with them, I get a bit nerdy for it lol.
And I think the pro heroes like All Might and Endeavor and Best Jeanist and Star & Stripe each represent fascinating paradoxes about society and morality while also showcasing the nature and flaws of humanity.
Funnily enough, when I was first starting out with MHA and not so invested yet, the characters I called my favorites were Aoyama and Best Jeanist for their clever designs and memetic potential. Aoyama very quickly became a representation of a certain set of disabilities that are prominent in my life that often get played for humor, so I found myself rooting for him often enough (and was grateful that most of the humor that exploits him is more to do with his supposed arrogance or oddness rather than his disability itself).
