The Museum

Gee, coming up with things for this was not unlike coming up with adventures for the Sorcerer’s Quest--brain farts galore! But I managed to come up with some stuff. I’ve got references to official MOTU canons, but I’m mainly doing my own thing because Trolla is free real estate for the most part. 

Okay, here we go. 

IRL you’d want a parent to be a chaperone, but Orko’s a Certified Good Boy, Montork trusts him to help keep an eye on children. 

Starting off by defining the Mage Emblems, because I’ve been looking for an excuse to do so in-story. Heck, this whole thing is an excuse for more Trolla worldbuilding, haha.

Doing a bit of exploring and seeing some prominent figures in Trolla’s history that I had fun coming up with (or rebranding into something else, i.e. Blim from the She-Ra episode ‘The Greatest Magic’ now being practically Santa Claus). 

And I’m skipping Dr. Seagg’s presentation because most of the artifacts he talks about aren’t really relevant to this tale, I will say he mentions belongings of the Ringbearers, and at some point, the Horn of Evil comes up. 

“Oh, he drives his sister up a wall, but he hasn’t done any property damage.”

Anyway, let’s go back to exploring this museum:

Considering that Ringbearers are extremely rare and Destroying Angels pop up at least once a generation, somebody had to keep them busy so that less innocents are killed in a rampage. DAs are extremely difficult to kill, you either need a Ringbearer or a Storm Spell cast by the Overlords (which was mentioned in an earlier post where one of Orko’s neighbors recounts the last Destroying Angel rampage), and the latter takes a bit of time to charge.

Anyway, I admit to being a little nervous touching on Eternia. With it being the main setting of MOTU, I’m trying to strike a balance between being faithful to certain key factors and tones and stuff, but also putting my own little spin on it. 

It is kind of funny to have this story set on Trolla and portray Eternia as the mysterious world the Trollans wonder about from time to time. In this AU, Trolla’s been cut off since the Ultimate Battleground, so they have no idea what current Eternia is like.  

Orko can ask the questions when he ends up on Eternia. 

Also, say ‘Hi’ to Adam! 

I know that’s not what He-Ro’s staff looks like... I couldn’t figure out how to draw it. TT_TT

SPOP Sword of Protection

To be specific, the First One/Ancient Eternian creation. Also an addendum to my post of SPOP She-Ra design.

In general, it quite resembles the DC Masters of the Universe Design of the (awakened/active) Sword of Protection:

It also resembles with it's circuitry the 200X version of Sword of Power...but also the 200X Sword of Protection itself, that appeared only in concept art form and toy form:

It having a crystal blade, might be inspired by the Sword of Power when wielded by He-Ro and champions before him (with the Sword turning metallic when King Grayakull inherited it).

BUUUT, it might be as well or even more possibly inspired by the 80s Sword of Protection toy, with a translucent blade:

The SPOP Sword of Protection's rainguard and crossguard resemble the Filmation Crystal Castle:

Hi sorry I need to do some more Pokemon posting bc this is the funniest shit. the cute-looking Pokèmon TCG series is making "TM10" part of its branding. Like, TM10 from the games - its the TM for the move Hidden Power, thats cute! Its reflecting the main character discovering herself in the same way the move works in the game, what a cute little detail!

Except uh. Just one problem.

Game Freak in all their brilliance removed Hidden Power from the franchise four years ago in Generation 8* and its still not able to be used in Scarlet and Violet. Its not just that you cant teach it to Pokèmon anymore, you straight up cannot use the attack even if you trade in Pokèmon from older games who know it. Its like a banned technique.

So then that begs the question – if the TCG show is gonna be referencing TM10 this much, but TM10 *isn't* Hidden Power anymore, surely that means TM10 is another similarly inspiring attack - Stored Power, or Calm Mind, or Smart Strike?

Well, depending on if its Gen 8 or 9, I hope the kids will have fun Discovering Their Own Magical Leaf and/or Discovering Their Own Ice Fang. Truly inspiring words. love how well managed this franchise is

Finding the sword kicks off the whole show. She transforms into a giant magic lady and is now in charge of saving everyone from the  big bag guys (which she used to be a part of). A bunch of stuff happens, but eventually her identity is now tied to having the sword. She is fully convinced that w/o the sword (and therefore She-Ra) she’s worthless. This culminates in having to destroy the sword or the world ends. She’s super depressed bc her whole self worth was tied to the sword and being she-ra. On the way to save her gf, she turns into way cooler she-ra (her own version of it that is not controlled by the sword which was made by her colonialist ancestors). Her sword is now part of her identity instead of her identity revolving around the sword.

This movie is super straight /s I think he also beats an entire army of knights with nothing but his sword and a chaotic good shapshifter so that's pretty cool. He's also south Asian, has a prosthetic arm he made himself and is honestly such a goofy guy (in a good way ofc) if that's anything.

Ballad of the Ringbearers, Pt. 1

I was initially going to have the whole ballad here, but I realized that it would have been a really long post like the Sorcerer’s Quest was, and my computer does not like the really long posts. This thing might end up being two or three posts. 

Besides, I figured that we’d focus a bit on the originator of the Oracle Ring, the Ancient Oracle himself, Arzon, and his involvement during Preternia times. As a bonus, I decided that the “song panels” should be colored.

Obviously the history would be more complicated than what a children’s song contains (not to mention it’s the Trollan POV), so you really only get a glimpse of this AU’s take on the in-universe history.

Anyway, we’ll pick up the song on the second verse in the next post.
