Why Levi and Petra?

Of course, upon general viewing of SNK and its characters, it's clear that they have established Erwin, Levi, and Hange as the leading trio of the Survey Corps. They represent this faction of the military and in interesting ways, mirror the main protagonists of the series.

While there is a lot to be said and appreciated about Levi's relationships with Erwin and Hange, I have come to find that the character who humanizes him is the lovely (albeit forgettable) Petra Ral.

Early in the series, we are introduced to Levi as Humanity's Strongest Soldier. Erwin makes use of his abilities in this sense, and Hange often relies on his strength in combat as well. That is not to say this is the extent of their relationships: we have Levi's iconic "Give up on your dreams and die" scene with Erwin (S3 E16) and the infamous "Maybe we should just live here [away from my responsibilities] together" request from Hange (S4.2 E8). However, something to note with both scenes is that while they give depth to Levi's relationship with both characters, he essentially serves to highlight others. In the former, Levi's response directly challenges Erwin's dream, and allows this commander a defining moment of growth. Similarly in the latter, Levi is used as a means for Hange to express and eventually overcome their fears and insecurities about the deal they've been dealt as the new Commander of the Survey Corps (which at the time was rapidly disbanding under the Jaegerist movement).

In other words, Levi is the "subplot character" to Erwin's and Hange's individual arcs. (According to John Truby, 'The subplot character… provides another opportunity to define the hero through comparison and advance the plot.')

Which begs the question… at what point in the series, if any, is Levi defined as a character in and of himself?

Two prominent scenes from season 1 come to mind, which are namely: 1) The dying soldier scene (S1 E9), and 2) Petra's conversation with Eren in headquarters (S1 E15).

In the first, Levi comforts a dying soldier and vows to carry on their will and exterminate all Titans. When the soldier passes before he can reply to Levi's words, Levi turns to his fellow soldier Petra and asks her if he was heard. Petra provides confirmation, emphasizing the peaceful expression on the soldier's face.

In the second, Petra confronts a gloomy-looking Eren, who has been tasked to clean headquarters along with the rest of the Special Operations Squad (aka the Levi Squad). She specifically points out how Levi is 'not the hero he's expected to be' in the sense that he has a terrible personality, though she does so while smiling almost fondly, as though it doesn't matter what his personality is because they can always put faith in him as their Captain. It seems she wants Eren to understand this - or a notion similar.

It is in both moments that we are able to clearly see Levi beyond being a powerful soldier. Always, he is a threat. When he enters the scene we expect the shift in the dynamic of the battle - we expect him to win. He's a trump card. Erwin's last words to him are an order (S3 E16), and Hange's last words about him is "he's [Armin's] underling now, so really put him to work" (S4.3.1). Levi acknowledges Erwin's and Hange's humanity, bolsters it even, with the conviction of "dedicating your heart". In SNK he is the symbolism, the embodiment, of a soldier. That's all he really ever gets to be. Even his softest moments with - heck, anyone in the series - are meant to deeply reflect on the guilt, the burden, the purpose of getting the job done. ("So… you're telling me… I've spent all this time and energy running around killing people?" (S2 E12) / "Just think, if your hands were still clean... Jean wouldn't be here right now." (S3 E2) / "If we just run away and keep on hiding, what will we have left?" (S4.2 E8))

But for those singular moments in season one, he's more than just the threat. We see him as a human not only with (personality) flaws, but also with dreams and convictions, tied so seamlessly with his comrades' cause that we are reminded painfully, at the end of the series, that it was Levi who carried them all to the end. Throughout the story we see Levi lament fallen soldiers; we are exposed to how much he empathizes with his comrades and their deaths, to the point where it can be said that no one keeps us more aware of the lives that have been lost throughout the show more than Levi himself.

In this manner, Petra was the subplot character to Levi's hero. She gave the audience a (subconscious) glimpse of the Humanity within "Humanity's Strongest" and built the bridge that would lead us to compelling and important revelations about Levi's thoughts and actions as the show progressed. It's Petra whom he finds tending to a dying soldier; Petra whom he asks for confirmation that the soldier heard; Petra who, against all expectation, asks Eren to see past the station, the status, the soldier, to the person himself.

"He's not quite the great, perfect hero society makes him out to be, huh? The real Captain Levi is shorter than you'd expect, temperamental, crude, and unsociable. (…) You thought that because he's skilled, he doesn’t have to follow the rules like everyone else?" (S1 E15)

It's even Petra who, despite her rank, asks Levi to step aside when Eren becomes a half-baked Titan. Here, Levi's robust intuition and split-second decision making skills are shown even away from the battlefield. It's Petra who leads the Special Operations Squad in their apology to Eren (S1E19 "Bite"), who first instills in us (narratively) the notion of trusting your fellow comrades. More specifically, she is who convinces Eren to place his life in their hands. It's this notion that Levi carries with him even until the final arc - "I've saved Eren countless times over - each time, more comrades dying. All because I believed he was the hope of humanity." (S4.1 E13) In the manga (Ch112), it's Petra we see at the forefront of this belief.

"Do you, Eren? Do you find it that hard to trust us?" It's Petra who dies, her words the final say in convincing Eren: "I believe my squad will be victorious." (S1 E21)

"It's like some awful joke," Levi reflects later on, as his comrades' dying hopes and dreams flash by in the canopy of the forest. "What the hell was the hope that we saw? Such bullshit. It's not even funny." (S4.1 E13) "We" here could definitely mean the soldiers who've given their hearts, but the metaphorical representative of this heart is Petra herself... "Eren! Trust us." (S1 E19)

And in the end, it's Petra in the forefront alongside Erwin and Hange, representative of her fellow soldiers, the one (experienced/veteran) Scout we've seen and interacted with in the entire series to have professed the values of hope, of trust, of belief, which is henceforth carried on by Levi himself, his own convictions, his own dreams. They are, in the entire series, the glimpse we get into the Scout Regiment beyond the series' titular character and his comrades in the 104th, and a thorough dive into what makes Levi Humanity's, not simply its strongest.

Her character song, "The Light of Dual Wings", can literally be taken as an allegory of the dreams the Scouts have entrusted to Levi. That's how prominent she is as a Scout; how coded her devotion to Levi is, whether interpreted platonically, romantically, or narratively, as the dedication of hearts.

So, yes, I love them together. I love their scenes, the implications of them narratively, the values Petra professes so effortlessly in the air, washed away by the higher tides of the Female Titan arc. I love that it's still Petra at the forefront, in all of Levi's reflections moving forward, because she is our first glimpse into Levi's character, the real him.

In the end this is just a ship post struggling to keep from delving too much into the symbolism of Levi and the Scouts (how Levi is the face of the Scouts more so than Erwin himself, really), the truest depiction of humanity's collective fight for freedom in this entire series. In his early days, Eren wanted to be a Scout, after all. It is Levi and Petra who push him forward into 'that hell' - for better and worse, respectively.

My final TOH Headcanons regarding queerness and relationships

Luz Noceda: Luz is obvi staying with Amity for the rest of her life. Luz is hardcore gnc, and legit uses any pronouns. He slays. They’re still bisexual :)

Amity Blight: Amity is a cis girl that’s a lesbian. I Like it that way. I know lots think of Amity as transfemme or demigirl, and I like those ideas, I really just want a cis queer like Amity :) (also she’s Maybe demisexual)

Aziraphale: Mamma Mia, of course it would be, and he knows the words to every single abba song (Angel eyes is obviously his favourite)

Crowley: Call me by your name. A love story but also pretty raunchy, dark (🍑) and so sad (The ending left everyone devastated)

Jim: Trolls. He sits there mouth wide open, cross legged with terrible posture and a hot chocolate watching it.

Gabriel: Nothing he would never indulge in human pleasures like that! (It's American psycho in a patronising film bro way)

Beelzebub: Human centipede or anything Actually messed up and disgusting (In true 'Lord of Hell' fashion)

Muriel: Nativity. Cannot grasp that Christmas films aren't normally watched year round (On another note, they adore Christmas because of the pretty lights and gift giving)

Dick Grayson’s Nightwing Suits (2/2) - Elseworlds/Multimedia Edition

Dick has appeared in quite a few Elseworlds (non-canon comic universes) and Multimedia projects. Most of the suits used in fantasy settings seem to take much of their inspiration from Dick’s early more flamboyant costumes. In recent years, he’s also worn jackets in two separate Elseworlds and one video game.

This isn’t a complete list of all Elseworld and Multimedia suits. A lot of Elseworlds suits are quite similar to the fingerstripes suit while cartoons have the habit of using a bird emblem.

Brothers of the Night Designed by: Michael William Kaluta (drawn by various) First Appearance: JLA: Riddle of the Beast (2001)

Riddle of the Beast is a fantasy adventure DC describes as their version of Lord of the Rings. The regalia and warrior suit Dick wears are clearly meant to draw parallels to Dick’s early suits with their focus on midnight blue and feather-esque stripes of gold.

Facets Designed by: Scott Lee First Appearance: New Titans Annual #10 (1994)

In their version in ‘Facets’ the New Titans rise in a magical world of sword and sorcery. Here too Dick’s warrior suit is largely inspired by the Mulletwing suit, which was his suit at the time. Even though the golden wings seem functional, they aren’t.

Unused Kingdom Come Suit Designed by: Alex Ross First Appearance: None

Dick Grayson appeared in Kingdom Come as the original Red Robin but, apparently, there were plans to make him Nightwing. The black suit has a dramatic cape and a beaked hood. A large golden bird emblem stretches over Dick’s chest. Alex Ross later repurposed the suit and used it for a Nightwing Chris Kent design.

Gotham City Garage Designed by: Aneke First Appearance: Gotham City Garage #4 (2018)

In Gotham City Garage, Nightwing doesn’t wear anything but a leather jacket with some clothes. A variation of his iconic symbol has instead been inked onto his chest. Because of his connection to Catwoman, the emblem is a cat.

Batman: White Knight Designed by: Sean Murphy First Appearance: Batman: White Knight #1

Sean Murphy has designed a few different suits for Dick, but this is the one that truly features what a Nightwing suit needs. Apart from the jacket with emblem and suit combo, Murphy notably gives Dick a triangular mask. It also incorporates the bird emblem that The Next Batman Adventures popularized.

Futures End Designed by Sean Chen First Appearance: Batman Beyond (2016) #40 (2020)

Unlike most of Dick’s suits, the Futures End suit features a much narrower chevron. It is underlined by a kind of angular u-shape.

The Next Batman Adventures Designed by: Bruce Timm & others First Appearance: The New Batman Adventures S1 E2

The Next Batman Adventures marks Nightwing’s first appearance in a cartoon. This Nightwing suit is notable for its use of a chevron in the shape of a bird. This design element has since been incorporated into several other designs, including Nightwing Rebirth’s and Bruno Redondo’s suits for the comics.

Young Justice The Animated Series Designed by: Phil Bourassa (Lead Character Designer) & Various First Appearances: Young Justice S2 & S4

Unlike the comics, where Dick’s suits have gotten darker over time, in Young Justice Dick starts out with a small bird crest before changing to a suit with a large chevron and fingerstripes, though the blue is darker. The same trend can be observed in the DC Animated Movie Universe.

Harley Quinn the Animated Series Designed by: Shane Glines & Alex Wilson First Appearance: Harley Quinn S3 E2

The Harley Quinn Nightwing suit is much brighter and lighter with a large, light blue chevron and a blue-collar, but the most original aspect of this design is not the suit at all - Dick has brown skin, something which the Rom had previously only been drawn with for a brief time in the 2000s by Gregory Wright. This was quickly changed, as in Nightwing’s first appearance in the Harley Quinn tie-in comics he has pale skin.

HBO Titans Designed by: Laura Jean Shannon & Joyce Schure First Appearance: Titans S2 E13

The Titans suit is currently the only live-action version of the Nightwing suit. Though Dick Grayson has been featured in several live-action movies and shows, he is almost always Robin, not Nightwing. No other character has held Nightwing in a live-action adaptation.

Gotham Knights Designed by: Laura Jean Shannon & Joyce Schure First Appearance: Gotham Knights (2022)

Dick’s latest video game suit incorporates him wearing a jacket as well. While the Arkham Games gave him the neutral chevron, Gotham Knights is using the more modern bird head in combination with it.

i've started a little series of weekly posts documenting every MoC i made (digitally) over the last few years:

Week 9: 2022

some old MoCs returning, lego art, 90th anniversary toa team, video game stuff and more Rock Raiders (yay)

this one will be the penultimate week.

remember back in week 2 (2018) where i tested out the differences in rendering between stud.io 1 and 2? i tested out the mecabricks extention for Blender to render some digital bricks.

this took way too long to setup and render, so i decided to not use blender for rendering after that (escpecially after the win11 updated fucked with my graphics card)

another mandalorian s2 set MoC. din djarins N1 starfighter, based on the last N1 set we had back in 2015. i think these proportions aren't good, but a bit better than the official set. (its still too big though)

the Horizon: forbidden west set was also teased/revealed around that time, so i decided to make a diorama with just the watcher (and one with a corrupted one) that would be a bit more managable in both cost and size than the tallneck.

i still got the tallneck, becauce those robot dinos are cool as hell and i want to support video game based sets, even though i am a big supporter of the concept that LEGO should make more original themes instead of big and expensive licensed sets (like rivendell....)

some greebles inspired by the ones on the Icons (formerly master builder) "theme" of sets, also my header image for tumblr.

back in 2017 (week one) i made The Slugcat Portrait mosaic, and i decided in 2022 that i would remake it to be more in line with the way i would built with bricks at that time. i think i improved wuite a bit.

i like the 90 years of play tahu, even if his design was considered to be controversial, so i decided to make the full 2001 set lineup for bionicle. i think they turned out pretty good, but i find it a bit annoying that the maccaroni piece does not exist in tan or medium blue (a dicontinued colour)

anyone remeber Valley? the momentum-based FPS platformer? no? it wasn't really mind-blowing, but i still enjoyed the movement and flow of the game. i also always wanted to try out the Legoland Miniland style of character building. this was the perfect opportunity to combine both of these things.

i think the proportions might be a bit off, but i still like this little desk friend

someone asked me on twitter to send them the instructions for my marble machine MoC (as seen in week 7), but i didn't want to give them such and outdated build, so i re-designed it to be more up to date.

they ended up giving me about 14 $ for these instructions, which made me pretty happy.

i tried to make a micro-scale version of the exo-force set 7701 Grand Titan. i really dislike the way this one turned out.

Lego Ideas had yet another contest. this one was about designing a poster for the then new 21334 Jazz Quartet. i called this one "Golden Sounds" and it is the first mosaic-type MoC that i made where i first sketched it out to kinda figure out how i wanted it to look.

i like the way this one turned out, but i think i should've built it in such a way that the colours in the background wouldn't be as dim.

remember last week when i said i wanted to make more Rock raiders MoCs? turns out i did. a lot too.

this VTOL-style transport vehicle was kinda inspired by those industrial transport helicopters and was supposed to be some sort of reimagining of 4980 tunnel transport. i think it's a bit too clunky and a bit too skinny at the same time. not my favourite.

also there's a modular open container (is that what they're called?) that can be fixed under the vehicle. (as well as the room container that you'll see next)

Modular bases are so cool you guys. this one is inspired by 4990 Rock Raiders HQ and those big old moving platforms Nasa uses. it could be controlled with a motor, has a removable cockpit (with an access hatch) and the platform has a lot of room for modules. like the crystal refinery, the room container, the high platforms, the crane and the crane attachment holder.

here are a few variants for the room container: an artifact storage with workbench, a small break room and a laboratory. i like those and i might do more in some time in the future. idk yet.

my take on the rock monsters. some crystal infested/energized Fauna.

first some bipedal designs (the left one is a modded version of a deviant form an eternals sets) that could be more agressive carnivore types.

in the middle are some quadrupedal guys that could be a bit less agressive and even friendly. Left is a modded version of my SCP 860 creature from week 4 (which was based on either an legendary beast from Chima or a dragon from elves) and the right one is a recolour from the fluffy-tailed Hog from my satisfactory series from week 3

and lastly, some insectoid designs, a kind of beetly creature and two ants, one of them with wings. these could be some sort of neutral (like in minecraft) swarm that might be a problem for buildings and cocky miners.

this is probably my favourite of my Rock Raiders Builds from 2022. it's 4920 rapid rider built with modern pieces that has been overtaken by the energy crytals. it can be fully freed from crystal and reassebled, which is nice.

we'll see another rapid rider next week...

My First Depictions of Dionysus + Why I Imagine Ariadne the Way I Do

So, it's quite funny my first time seeing depictions of Dionysus: Percy Jackson & the Olympians and True Blood.

Why was I watching True Blood in middle school? I loved vampires, fantasy, and mythology + I was watching it with a trusted adult (my older brother lol) so it wasn't as if I had to stomach the grittier parts of the show on my own.

But, if you've read the Percy Jackson books and also seen Season 2 of True Blood, which heavily centers the mythology of Dionysus and the maenads, then you can imagine my shock when I saw S2.

Is this the SAME god I was reading about? The SAME god that's cranky all the time because has to drink diet soda all the time?

It shouldn't come as a shock that the True Blood depiction is more accurate to his mythos (though, not entirely due to the whole "association with Satan" thing they had going on). So yeah, needless to say, I was quite educated on the wine god after that.

BUT here's another thing: it also gave me some insight into Ariadne.

See Season 2 confused me, because by that point I had read The Titan's Curse and learned that Dionysus had a wife, Ariadne. So, when Maryann was talking about wanting to marry Dionysus, that was a head-tilter. While Dionysus isn't exactly 100% faithful to Ariadne in mythology, he sure as hell isn't ditching her for someone else either.

But that being said, Maryann is what I think of when I think of what someone who wants to marry Dionysus would be like. While I'm not saying Ariadne would be as evil as Maryann (rest assured, Maryann will forever be iconic.) she would definitely vibe with Dionysus' whole madness, hedonism, liberation from social restraints, etc...

And it perfectly works out. Given how much Ariadne was put through in her life, the labyrinth, and her hopes being crushed by Theseus, I could totally see her adapting a "fuck it all," "doing me" type of attitude, and low-and-behold, she just so happens to meet the god that represents the "fuck it all" mentality.

So depictions of Ariadne that portray her as meek or even scared of Dionysus have just never made sense to me. I always imagined her as a party-girl who thrived off of Dionysus' energy and was totally down for his lifestyle; and likewise her outlook after Theseus' abandonment is what attracted Dionysus to her as well. They are wine-drinking hedonists together.

And yes, of course, she can still have her domain of weaving, Ariadne can be a party-lover and still have hobbies!

EDIT: Just remembered Ariadne's Roman name is Libera, which obviously has ties to the Latin root word liber meaning "free." Liber is also a translation for "Dionysus." One of his epithets is Eleuthereus which means "of liberation, freedom." Just further proving my claim that they are more alike than different :)

What are your expectations from this new Dawn of DCU relaunch?

Apparently the "official" name is New Dawn. New York Comic-Con this week means we're getting a bunch of announcements on what's coming post Dark Crisis. Good time to get in some predictions now before the official announcements drop. My expectations are:

Williamson will be writing a relaunched Superman ongoing. He's set to be a part of the Superman panel at NYCC and he's the odd man out there. PKJ, Jurgens, and Russell have major Superman specific books either already out or on the way, Williamson does not currently have anything starring Clark. Between Jon's book being established at this point for better or for worse, Clark returning back to Metropolis, PKJ saying Action is shifting to being a Superfamily book on Twitter, the rumored Cavill cameo in Black Adam this month, and Superman's 85th anniversary next year, there's no way DC isn't going to have a proper Superman book for 2023.

I wager that Conner's Superboy miniseries by Porter and Lindsay will be scheduled to debut in Jan as part of the new linewide relaunch. DC is probably hoping that will boost it's sales and get more people to pay attention.

I also expect Williamson to be writing the "Legacy League" title with Jon, Jace, Yara, Jo, Jackson, and maybe a few others. Meanwhile I bet Waid gets the "classic" League, with the lineup being that Dan Mora banner drawn above, and Taylor gets the Titans with the New Teen Titans lineup. Or maybe I have that reversed and Waid gets the Titans while Taylor, as the new golden boy, gets the Justice League.

Waid is also supposedly writing a "Magical Crisis" event next year which will feature all of DC Mystic.

Geoff Johns will be revealed to be writing a Legion of Superheroes 12 issue miniseries as a companion book to his JSA mini. First however there will be a War of the Four Legions mini-event similar to Batman vs. Robin, which will use Hypertime to eject the Bendisboot from being the "canon" future and restore Johns' Retroboot. Johns probably has other minis in the works that might get announced too.

Stephanie Phillips is off Harley Quinn and I'm guessing that's because she will be writing a new Green Arrow book. She's expressed a lot of love for the Arrows, she wrote the Roy Harper one shot for Infinite Frontier, and the only other one I could see getting the book over her is Williamson.

Shawn Martinborough has been teasing a Red Hood book so that's likely to show up

Official announcement that Nightwing #100 will be a wedding issue between Dick and Babs

Milestone was already announced to get a second season, so maybe we'll get details on Static, Icon & Rocket, and Hardware S2.

John Stewart & the Emerald Knights was teased at the end of the previous GL run. Thorne is writing a Stewart one shot that I believe will act as an "issue 0" to let any potential newcomers get background on what happened in the previous series and then go directly into the new ongoing which Thorne will also write. For Hal I'm expecting there will be a new Hal Jordan & the GLC book delivering traditional GL stories starring Hal as the main protagonist. Guessing Williamson will be writing that, would've said Waid but he seems to already be stretched thin with all his rumored books. I bet Sampere is going to draw the Hal book given he loves Hal and GL, he's said he has post Dark Crisis DC books in the works, and DC is likely going to give him a dream book as a reward for doing the event.

Not sure if we'll get a new Aquaman book, his movie is now not coming until Dec 2023, but if we do I'm hoping Jackson & Lanzig will be writing it since I greatly enjoyed their Voidsong book.

Tom King has three new comics projects in the works, it's probably too early to announce what they are but you never know.

Webtoon will announce more DC series, probably at least one featuring the Superman or Wonder Woman corners of the DCU.

And that's all I can think of. I'm sure there will be some surprises, at the very least I want Dan Watters to get a major DC book somewhere since I've greatly enjoyed his work, and all he has right now is an Azrael mini. There will be some Black Label book announcements, probably mostly Batman, some more minis here and there, and with any luck Batman won't be 50% of the line anymore.

One last major thought going forward. Infinite Frontier was an attempt to increase diversity at DC, an attempt which seems mostly to have flopped. DC did try to put the spotlight on their nonwhite characters, to increase rep for LGBT, to bring in more non-white/non-straight creators for their books, and it didn't work out overall. The Aquaman books had an all black writing team, which attempted to raise Kaldur to equal status with Arthur and shift Manta into a more anti-hero role, and the books absolutely tanked. John Stewart and Jo headlined the GL title, and sales were just ok. Most of the Future Staters have been busts with only Jon and Jace currently holding on to their titles. We got some really great books out of IF, absolutely love Ram V's Swamp Thing run which gave us a new Indian Swamp Thing, but I'm expecting New Dawn to be to IF what Rebirth was to DC You: a return to focusing on the traditional (white and straight) A-Listers. Johns and Waid seem set to take over as the new architects for DC once more, and that "bread and butter" old school storytelling is what those two love.

No doubt there will be the usual bitching from Twitter and Tumblr about this shift (although maybe not given nobody seems to have loved stuff like Bendis Legion) but you guys who wanted more diversity didn't show up for it, so DC is "embracing tradition" once more. Hopefully that Legacy League book does actually happen and that at least keeps some of the new blood from falling into Limbo. Outside of the direct market, Webtoons seems like it might be able to keep carrying the torch for diversity at DC given that's where they launched Vixen and Zatanna.

i was sooooo upset when Leo's VA changed. now when i rewatch i can handle it but when i hear 2k12 Leo's voice it's 100% the og VA. space season was...something. most of it is not my fave but there's tiny lil nuggets here and there that are either actually good or i've just gaslit myself into enjoying lmao, like leo spending all that time in the holodeck talking to splinter 🥺🥺🥺 the cheese phone is iconic. 2k12 def has some grade A hurt/comfort. plus mikey has his short lil mask ends and freckles for the first time, absolutely love hehe

oh the movie is so whack. when i saw it for the first time i was CONVINCED it was a sequel. i'm so curious how it got like greenlit and survived all the way to release. ugh yeah they should've left that cut scene fr!! literally, how was he supposed to learn how to lead...alone. how? why? my questions will never be answered i fear.

(which having read comics now, donna and wally not being in teen titans is a tragedy, god i love donna.) i like revisited them in sept. after a tmnt rewatch and re-fell in love with dick grayson lmao, decided to try out the comics and learned that there were more robins than just dick and have not been able to stop thinking about them since. i don't know how i didn't know. jason and tim are literally in yj s2. i had seen so many "batman adopts children like crazy" memes. how was i unaware? we'll never know. how about you, did you get in through comics or show/movies? (also, i assume dick is your fave robin; somehow mine is tim. i love them all desperately, to be clear, but at some point when i wasn't paying attention my soft spot for him swallowed me whole lmao)

Same for me! I can accept his new voice actors, but in fics, I usually hear his og VA unless they specify his hurt leg/changed voice. LOL no yeah the space season had it’s moments, plus it gave us Chompy! Oof Leo being so attached to his dad and losing him like that… only for him to lose Splinter again and for real later on 😭. The freckles and short mask were so cute for Mikey! It made it 10x more effective when Mikey would use his big puppy dog eyes against Leo, and Leo would fold 😂.

Yeah!! 2007 is actually supposed to be a sequel of sorts to the live action 1990s tmnt movies! And then there was supposed to be a sequel to 2007 with Mikey joining the Foot to save his family or something. We could’ve had it all 😭.

Love that The Last Ronin is the only one you’ve read 😆. I enjoyed that comic until maybe the last 2 issues or so, they felt a bit weaker than the other issues. I know they’re doing a Last Ronin video game, would love it if they did some animated movie about it or something.

Ohh Teen Titans/YJ gotcha (and right?? how dare they leave out Donna 😭). That was basically my intro to it all as well I believe. The multiple Robin reveal is always so fun 😆. Aalskdja idk how you were unaware once watching YJ S2, but I won’t fault you for it bc there was just a lot of shit going on in that season 😆. And yeah Dick is definitely my fav, probably grew attached to him from YJ S1 though I always liked Robin best from the Teen Titans show, and that’s also Dick. And aww Tim’s your fav 💖. Dick and Tim have such a lovely brotherly bond.

Also, have you ever watched Supernatural or Merlin? Because if you love platonic/brotherly love, those two will fill your cup x10. (I mean well… there are seasons of SPN where Sam and Dean fight, and I hate those seasons the most lmao, but when they’re on the same page, they’re amazing together in the most crazy way possible.)

Attack on Titan - Season 2 A "This Opening Theme Deserves Awards" Commentary (*full manga spoilers)

-ooh i like the op -sasha, my loveliest sasha <3 -connie just found the ~titan on top of his house~ and i'm like tearing up here -through all we've been through, the one person i never forgave is zeke. i just cannot with zeke. which is silly, everyone's drowning in blood, and yet. -nanaba is an icon, just sayin -ymir's transformation scene gave me goosebumps -the scenes between ymir and historia are so good and emotional -low-key love the ending song bc it's so random compared to what comes before. usually the eps end like RAWR ARGH ARGH KYAAAA RAAAAH and then you just sort of melt into swaying along with the ending song and chill. -i still can't get over reiner's 'btw we're the titans,' it's so good -hannes to mikasa and armin: "it's always been your guys' job to clean up after that moron's [eren's] messes, right?" truer words have never been spoken -seriously will any op slap as hard as the s2 op, i love this song -ay ay ay, eren's speech at reiner on how he's neither a soldier nor a warrior but a mass murderer that killed innocents and that he isn't even human anymore… ay ay ay. a) you'll come to understand, love, and b) …right back at you. -you know, technically i could think of many ops that are visually more stunning than this, but if i had to give one the top spot, it would still be this one. it just fires you up, man -seriously tho, the music, the voice acting, the animation, they've elevated ymir so much -man, they killed it, the dina-eren-mikasa moment, they killed it, this entire episode is SO. GOOD, it goes SO HARD -jean to eren: "but i think it's up to you to decide whether our comrades died in vain or not." ehehe, eren's villain origin story part 2 (/joke). -dude they cooked in the last ep, it was so good???

//So I will be taking a few hour break before replying today other than to a few short rps. And on a further note? There are other characters I'm interested in from Final Space, but I'll see how I feel as I need a break from creating a character/making new icons and bios and they won't be as detailed as Ash who needed A LOT of help to make sense.

Spoilers below since well, it talks about the characters but it's Fox, Clarence and Sheryl then Bolo as a side character. The reason being is that it's hard for me to find a sci fi series I actually think is good and while Final Space has many flaws in S3? It ultimately is a really good universe and premise.

Clarence: He'd be S2 timeline only and I'd have a ending for him with his death slightly rewritten with the final convo with Ash. He'd be primary and at least have Fox or Ash or both with him albeit not the focus at times.

Fox: He'd be S2 to S3 only and I'd have an ending for him with his death slightly rewritten. Mostly with Ash and Gary talking to him as he bleeds out and him talking about them being the best family he's ever had. He'd be primary+ and can be stand alone and also be with Ash.

I am debating if I'd have a verse where Ash brings them back with Bolo's help as it seems almost a touch too cliche, but at the same time? Fox's death without being rewritten felt a little forced for angst while Clarence's felt more natural and satisfying for an ending to the character other than not including certain details. I don't think it's unusual however considering the lengths they went to get back Avocado. I'd like to see anyone interested their thoughts on the viability of the idea, rather than my own wants.

Sheryl: I'd write her ending of probably having to cut her own arm off to save Gary after probably Gary kills Invictus while inside his head or whatever, then dragging her unconscious son while she's bleeding out then cauterizes her wound and how she's learned the meaning of family and what it means to do for them, rough draft concept but yeah. She'd be trans, cyborg, then have a robo arm that's probably more CQC based than weapon based compared to Gary's as she'd pilot them out. I suggest this because Sheryl is amazingly precise and combative even compared to the likes of Avocado.

Bolo meanwhile is cool, but I already wrote his ending basically? He'd be essentially the key to helping make more Titans as the universe is, however and is already apart of Ash's plot. So he's kind of technically a side muse already? But eh. He's not the most flexible character due to obvious reasons.
