The last few weeks of April are incredibly busy for me as I have multiple presentations, papers and an exam. However, definitely going to keep it together and keep pushing. How is the last bit of April for you?

i was setting up my bullet journal for June this afternoon and still thinking about previous posts I reblogged about the gentrification of journaling and what is 'necessary' to start journaling, so I decided to do something very unusual for me and share a few completed pages. The top two images are from my current bujo, and the bottom two are from my last one. I had no pictures of my first one, which is a shame. You'll notice I have completely dropped the trackers, rearranged the layout (no more monthly pages!), and started writing snippets about my day in the space leftover. For a year, I also wrote my readings for class in a different space than daily chores, which helped me distinguish between meetings and homework. In my first bujo, I also had a separate section for recording what I ate for dinner (which was sparingly used).
Bullet journaling may not seem worth doing anymore for me, since I have all but resorted to a common weekly planner layout without any bells or whistles, but I still find it works for me. It doesn't take me very long to set up a month (maybe 20 minutes?), nor do I have to stick to a layout if I choose to switch it up. For instance, the top right photo shows that I tried a-page-a-day set up to little success - I wanted to fill all that space with detailed journal entries as a new year's resolution, but by the time February rolled around, I was back to writing two or three bullet points, if anything. I reverted back to weekly spreads when planning the rest of February. I also fill pages from the back with notes from lectures, meetings, and brainstorming sessions, so I usually finish a journal in a year's time. All my supplies are from my undergrad days, and I'm not sure I'll rebuy things like the mildliners or the huge Stabilo pen pack when they dry up.
Does having the markers make it fun? Sure! Will I someday returned to printed planners? Maybe! Do you need this stuff to be a proper bullet journaler? Absolutely not.

YOUR ANNOTATIONS ARE SO PRETTY AHHHHHHHHH can i ask where you get them from?
thank youuuu 🥺🥺🥺 i like to use the following supplies for annotating:
highlighters — i like to match the colors of the highlighter to the cover of the book, so what i use really depends on the book cover itself, but my go to highlighters are zebra mildliners, pilot frixion light pastel erasable highlighters, and some lighter/more opaque tombows!
pens — muji 0.38 in black; my go to pen. (i'll also use some of the other muji pens i have if i'm doodling/drawing, but i don't do that as much in my books anymore)
sticky notes — i use either monolike sticky notes, or the clear sticky notes that i have lying around! i also have some kraft paper-y sticky notes that i bought a while ago for bullet journal purposes that i've been using in my annotations!
tabs — i like using morandi & color note tabs! i like to match the tabs i’m using to the page covers for aesthetic purposes, and these are the ones i usually use.

okay its the end of the year im going to talk about my bullet journal themes
Tumblr media
for some reason i didnt do a proper cover page for 2022 but heres the quote page. i did the clouds in tombow dual brush pens and the highlights were done in clear sakura gelly roll stardust pens
Tumblr media
january 2022 i did aliens bc aliens is cute. i did this setup with various knockoff tombow dual brush pens an artists loft fineliner and a bunch of assorted gelly rolls
Tumblr media
february was a rlly fun setup. i was kind of in my feelings so i did doves and burning olive branches. no further commentary. i dont remember which pens i used
Tumblr media
my aquarium no longer looks like this so im glad i decided to immortalize it in my bullet journal! it was just a fun and silly theme. i love fun and silly themes
Tumblr media
gwins bday is in april and his fave animals EVER are penguins. i dont remember which black marker i used for this setup. it might have been the tombow fudenosuke but dont quote me
Tumblr media
i think the soap bubbles theme was my favorite theme this year. this was done entirely in tombow dual brush pens. i messed around with scrapbook paper for the first time and it really added a lot to the setup
Tumblr media
no quote page for june bc i barely used my bujo in june. this setup is entirely done in copic multiliner and fluorescent mildliners
Tumblr media
i wanted to mess around with low effort setups in july since i barely used my june setup so i did blood. you could adapt this to be goo or whatever if you didnt use red but this was all done in crayola supertips
Tumblr media
and then i did a super high effort spread for august. this is in my second place spot for favorite theme. the washi and stickers were a lot of fun
Tumblr media
low effort theme. again. i used only kuretake brushables for these
Tumblr media
and then i put entirely too much effort into october. the leaves were colored with sakura koi watercolor brush pens the wood was a kuretake fudebiyori the grass was an ohuhu natural brush pen and the pumpkins and flapjack were done in tombow dual brush pens
Tumblr media
i was lazy again in november. jam jars. they were super duper adorable but also insanely low effort. i dont even remember which pens i used for all of these. i think the strawberry jam was an ohuhu natural brush pen orange was a staedtler dual ended art marker lemon was a crayola supertip raspberry was a kuretake fudebiyori and grape was i think a kuretake real brush pen. the lettering was done in a pentel fude touch sign pen
Tumblr media
and then december was simple and graceful. i loved how the lettering came out. the pinks were done in kuretake real brush pens and the blacks were done in an off black crayola supertip. so yeah. thats my bullet journal for the year. damn.

Soon to be college freshman, Can you give me advice? Like what I'll need when I move into dorms? Study tactics? Things like that? (Also, I wanna be a teacher!)
That’s so awesome!!! Here are some things off the top of my head:
Dorm supplies
(Technically I wrote these for another post a while back but I still stand by these recommendations tbh)
A good lamp (ideally a sunlight lamp or something that has natural-looking light so you don’t hurt your eyes too much at 2 am)
A storage tower thingy (great for toiletries and other small stuff like that)
A fluffy rug makes a hugeeeee difference in my opinion
Hanging shoe rack (you can put hats, belts, socks, etc. in it, not just shoes!)
A planner or notebook for a bullet journal (if desired)
An essential oil diffuser + your favorite essential oil scents (instead of air fresheners, I think they give a much nicer feeling plus you can customize it way more)
Fairy lights
One of those comfy armrest pillow thingies idk what they’re called ok
A good pair of headphones!
A good water bottle that DOESN’T LEAK
Mildliners or some other nice-looking highlighters (if you like to highlight your notes or textbooks)
Study tips
When you’re trying to focus, seriously put your phone away somewhere you can’t see or use (I like using the app Forest and putting my phone in a drawer, though there are a bunch of other similar apps out there such as Flora, Plantie and Study Bunny!), turn off any notifications that would come up on your laptop, and close any tabs that you’re not currently working on. I know this is so one of those things you see in every list of advice, but it truly can make such a difference in my opinion!
Have a system for keeping track of assignments. I use Notion, but at different times since being in college I’ve also used a planner or a bullet journal, so find a system that works for you and use it religiously
Keep a calendar of classes and other meetings. I use Outlook but you could also use Google Calendar or even just writing it down in whatever planning system you choose. Don’t just rely on yourself to remember when your classes are, because at some point you’ll miss a meeting. It also gives you more peace of mind and mental space for other things, too
Personally, I find that doing a quick and easy task in the morning before I move onto more difficult assignments helps a lot with motivation, so give that a try and see if that also works for you! Some people also like doing their hardest task first, so just figure out which one suits your life the best
Tbh I have a lot more tips but they’re so dependent on like what types of classes you’re taking, if they’ll be online vs in-person, so hmu if you want more specifics!
Other tips
If you are truly not wanting to do a piece of homework, try to figure out why that is instead of just forcing yourself. A lot of times it can be that you are ignoring things like hunger, exhaustion, mental health, etc. and it’s really important that you take care of some of those essential things first. Mental health comes above schoolwork, and you need to make it a priority in your life so you don’t get burnt out
Have a life outside of schoolwork. Join a club, do volunteerwork, make some friends and talk about things other than classes, go into town from time to time, pick up or continue doing a hobby, anything really. So many people get completely stuck in their college schoolwork bubble that they forget to also live their life somewhere in there too
Best of luck!!! I hope things go as smoothly as possible for you!

My dream job would be testing and reviewing stationery for a living lol. I think I like it so much because it helps me look forward to studying. But tbh I’ve also learned that you then also actually have to do the work, the stationery alone won’t do it. And also, making your notes pretty to the studyblr-extent is a waste of time if you’re doing it for productivity.
The zebra sarasa vintage are so nice! I think if I had to choose between the two sets, the one that has camel yellow would be my favourite, but they’re all great. Unfortunately you can’t buy them individually unless you buy the premium version (metal pen body) where one is like €10.
Also I’ve had the same issue with bullet journaling as you did. But I’ve seen a post on here that discusses how it was essentially created to be a disability aid and that’s made me consider maybe trying it again.
Do you prefer European/American or Japanese stationery?
i hope u get that dream job! or at least that u turn it into a hobby like having a youtube channel or an instagram page about it. i really find comparisons in stationery items sooo valuable and someone has got to do it so maybe it could be you! and u obviously have very valuable insight, i totally agree with u that aesthetically pleasing notes aren't the end all be all of actually properly studying like it's about effort as u said and about methodology. neat notes can help (i can't study anything that looks messy) but it's not magic lmao
listen i've bought notebooks in the 10€ range but i don't think i could do it for a pen alkjdflg except if it was a fountain pen maybe. but i'm gonna get the sarasa vintage when i get paid! ty for the recommendation again <3 and for helping me find an alternative to muji pens!
ultimately i don't think i have a preference, i find that western stationery can be rather bulsky or sport really ugly colours LMAO and i really do love a pastel like most eastern asian stationery brands are now putting on the market that's why i got an expensive ass A4 notebook granted it's from a french brand but it was definitely inspired by japanese items. it was all about zebra mildliners before stabilo came out with the pastels too! but i'm glad that they're doing that bc i don't really want to order everything, i like going to a physical store and pick up what i want. but u really have to look long and hard whereas for stuff i see in korean and japanese online stores they just immediately grab my attention and the shape of the pens is never too bulky and the colours are great and the quality seems really good... although i will say in terms of quality the germans are really at the top. deutsche qualität! what about you??

honestly my advice to baby studyblrs is just do whatever you want. if you feel like getting twelve hundred mildliners and you can afford it and you want to make really over the top color coded notes do it. you want to spend ten hours on canva and photoshop making a header for your blog, or for your masterpost? go nuts. you want to put a super saturated pastel filter over every photo? sure, do it. you want to raise the exposure of every pic so high that the paper blends into your white desk? why not?
i used to take an erasable highlighter and make the most complex, confusing notes ever. i used to do calligraphy titles for every. single. header. and add in highlights with white pen and drop shadows with black pen. i used to make my post headers animated gifs with smoke or rain or whatever on top for the aesthetic. i used to have literally hundreds of spotify playlists for very specific moods and i used to bring a metric ton of markers and fucking crayons or whatever to school every day. i used to spend like three hours every week setting up next week’s bujo and a full day every month on the monthly layout.
and yea, now i literally just keep a black pen, a ruler, a pencil and a couple highlighters in my pencil case. now i bullet journal with the cheapest dot grid notebook i can find with my One Good Black Pen only, no colors, barely any calligraphy, maybe a sticker or two once in a while. now i don’t even use a ruler on my weekly setups and i scribble things out instead of painstakingly using white-out. now my notes are pencil, pen and a highlighter *sometimes*.
but i don’t think i would feel as comfortable with my notes or my bullet journal if i hadn’t gone through the phase where my notes were extra and color-coded af, and i still highlight the sides of my notebooks so i know which is which from above or below. yea, my bullet journal is pretty spartan, but i still like to flip back and look at the pages i have that are perfect aesthetic collages. plus it’s nice knowing that i could do that if i wanted to. and i genuinely think the phase where i spent 3 hours on every page of notes helped me get better at taking the quick notes, because i know what’ll work for me now and what won’t.
i don’t regret the phase where i spent hours trying to figure out the best way to optimize my tagging, even though now i usually just slap on “studyblr” “og” “dark academia” and throw my shit out into the void. so sue me.
i guess what i’m trying to say is if you’re just starting a studyblr, do whatever you feel like doing, and if you don’t feel like doing what you were doing anymore, switch it up. i’ve taken like six months off of posting and i’ve posted every day for weeks. i’ve edited photos to look like they were taken on the surface of the fucking sun and i’ve edited photos darker than my nightmares. you don’t need to be consistent, i STILL am not consistent with my content. throw shit at the wall, see what happens. have fun, get stupid.

ATEEZ as students studying
HONGJOONG:
king of self-care! but studies for 15 minutes then take a 2 hour break and calls it self-care (omg he thinks he’s me or smth)
has power naps every single day at least 30 mins because he’s Stressed
always thinking of ways to drop out during the middle of lectures
that one kid that talks to nobody & sits at the back of the class with his hood on to hide his airpods
doesn’t do it anymore bc one time it disconnected and “there’s some whores in this house” blasted out loud & now he’s paranoid
shows up to group studies but lets the group carry him,,, but he puts out One Really good idea to get his name on the paper
only cares about topics he’s interested in, other than that he’s just astral projecting
“yo can you send me your answers so i can compare mine?” but he copies it and says “we got the same answers” (all men do is lie</3)
calculates his marks; “ok so i need at least a 80 on this...oh wait no, a 95...damn okay...”
the type to arrives late with ice coffee
SEONGHWA:
wakes up at 5 am to study instead of staying up
scented candles and lofi music for the ~studying mood~
a linguistic learner
learns best by teaching others so he’ll do group studies often to help other people
teaches people without making them feel dumb
uses grammarly for his emails with 3 paragraphs asking 1 question with a proper greeting and a ‘sincerely, park seonghwa’
professor: ok - sent from iphone
you’ll never see him during exams week, he’s Gone
a loyal user of the outline method
his desk must be cleared at all times! a clean workspace makes it easier to focus
brings extra pencil just in case anyone needs them bc he’s the sweetest person ever (he’s fully aware that he’ll never get them back but it’s okay bc sharing is caring)
does his readings on time (you’ll never catch him slacking)
actually has his shit together for the most part 1/2
YUNHO:
writes “i love you” or “sorry” at the end of his tests (that he bombed)
the type to ask you to print “just one thing real quick” and it’s 15 page and at 2 am
uses emojis like :D & \(^o^)/ when sending emails to his professors
has a bad habit of copying word for word on the slide and he doesn’t actually understand/learn anything
goes to the library bc he thinks that’ll help him be in the ~studying vibe~
it doesn’t. ends up texting or watching youtube gameplay
has never heard of the colour-coding system in his entire life and ends up with a page filled with neon highlight
snacks breaks are the only thing keeping him Normal
leaves himself an encouraging note at the end of the reading page so when he’s finished he feels good !!
friends with all of the professors and uses all office hours
strongest points are his guessing skills in multiple-choice questions (process of elimination ftw!)
he tries his best, doesn’t care about marks that much because he knows it doesn’t determine him (and he’s right!)
YEOSANG:
probably runs a studyblr/gram
has the cutest note ever, his handwriting is so pretty!!
he thinks that buying an ipad pro & apple pencil will make him smarter
likes it bc he can doodle on it then erase them easily :”)
has to wear blue ray glasses because of how he looks at a screen so much
mildliners, muji 0.38 gel pen, 6 ring binder, minimal planner, washi tapes, you name it! he visits muji and daiso every other week
buys wayyy too many planners and notebooks which he never ends up using
only uses pastel mildliners because they’re easy on the eyes. cringes every time he sees yunho’s highlighters v_v
his flaw is that he spends 10 mins writing his header with brush tip pens
mutes the group project gc but gets his part done like the good classmate he is
sweats every time he gets an assignment back, takes a whole ten minute to mentally prepare himself
a visual learner; makes mind maps, flow charts, etc
actually has a working printer that he uses pretty often to prints lessons before class just to be Extra prepare
tells everyone he slept well but his bullet journal habit tracker for sleep says otherwise (plz rest!!)
exclusively uses college ruled paper like the sane person he is
SAN:
uses wide-ruled paper (unfortunately not everyone is perfect</3)
starts off very positive, motivated, and organized
then everything goes downhill by the second week
will definitely set byeol on top of his keyboard, take a picture, and send it to his professor as an ‘excuse’ as why he needs an extension (it works)
can’t sit still for any longer than 30 mins, his legs are always bouncing or fidgeting with pen
flashcard king! spends a lot of time on them but it’s worth it
a utensil chewer (always willing to share his pencil but when ppl saw the bite marks they’re like No Thanks >_>)
can’t study well with groups or himself bc he’ll be distracted,,, so he needs one person that can ground him bc when they’re in the zone, he will too be on his x game mode
sends his assignment at 11:58 pm hoping his professor will take the Hint (plz don’t be afraid to ask for help u_u)
prefers listening to ghibli studio soundtracks but then he either gets emotional or sleepy
sometimes forget to mute his mic and we just hear him groaning in frustration
“haha sorry i just stubbed my toe...”
then mutes his mic and goes back to his mental breakdown
MINGI:
the only person that studies every single day just to get his brain used to the information and running
probably listens to anime op or edm music for that Energy Boost
everyone either hates or love him because...
1. loves him bc he always comes clutched with study guides (and willing to share if he likes you enough)
2. he’s good at everything even if he’s not paying attention/doing it last minute
just naturally good at retaining information and applying them
asks Big Brain question that even the professors are shook
sometimes he gets super into the topic and wants to know Everything
“i’ve never failed an exam in my life” and he’s right! big brain mingi
fetal flaw is that he forgets easily (hence why the last minute) and has to write on his palm as a reminder
clicks his pens All the time so he switched to pens with caps just to keep others from jumping him
takes naps 10 mins before classes
actually has his shit together for the post part 2/2
“if no one got me, i know khan academy and quizlet got me. can i get an amen”
WOOYOUNG:
y’all know that one mf that doesn’t have a pencil?
yea he’s been using the same one someone lend to him before a test and never returned it
it’s been two months and it’s still working well and they’re never going to get it back
a minimalist,,,, but in a bad way</3 bc he carries his stolen pencil and paper that he spilled his energy drink over and that’s about it
just throw loose papers in his bag and forgets about their existence
doesn’t do binders or notebooks, just crumbled up paper
sometimes carries a textbook just to show everyone that he’s got his life together
really noisy for No reason, always wants to know other’s marks
a kinesthetic learner
hides his screen with he gets the kahoot questions wrong (you’ll never catch him slippin)
plays coolmathgames.com during class
doesn’t really know what to study/prioritize so he overwhelms himself with every single topic ever
thinks he’s god by pulling an all-nighter to look at the 60+ slides last minute
Swears he’ll change and do better next semester,,,</3
goes to the cafe, takes pictures of his notes & laptop, post it on his story, then leaves
JONGHO:
thrives off of red bull and ice americanos
gets notes and study guides from his upperclassmen because everyone loves jongho
an audio learner so he’ll probably work out or go on a jog while listening to lessons/audiobook
never pulls all-nighters bc it messes up his sleep schedule and says he’ll do it in the morning but he never does
doesn’t even own a highlighter, he’ll circle or underline stuff with a red or black pen
has never touched a textbook in his life
only the study guides and slides, his textbook is collecting dust rn
his notes are literally Only for him because his handwriting only makes sense to him
has questionable handwriting,,, it’s like decoding
multitasks a lot but it ends up taking a lot longer than he wanted to (bc it’s a myth)
very spontaneous; he’ll grind for 5 hours straight but sometimes he won’t even touch a pencil
works best when he talks about the work in groups and share information with each other, like having a convo about the topic
unmutes his mic Once after the lesson to say “bye”
does his work right after the lessons but then takes a short break & doesn’t even Look back for the rest of the night
-
a/n: tag yourself ! i’m a bit of hohong (i projected myself on all of them in some way lmaooo)

How is everyone's September going? Mine has been....hectic. I've been really busy in lab (I pretty much go every day including weekends) so I've been struggling to get things ordered, but you just gotta keep fighting to have some work-life balance! That's something I promised myself I'd try to do in 2023 (I've succeeded....occasionally lol)

What you must know about Bullet Journal (BuJo) 📔
Fun and creative journals are still becoming a trend. Yes, digital journals are more accessible but having a physical journal is still timeless. Besides, even those decorations are getting categorized if they are trendy.  I will tell you some recommendations, tips, and other information about how I do my bullet journal. Let's break it down into 4 parts!
I. Introductory Notes
So, what exactly is Bullet Journal?
"BuJo" (Bullet Journal) is the more popular term. Generally, it's a diary but more visualized and organized. It also comes from a type of page that is called "bullet or dotted. Here, we're not using blank or lined pages here. The diary we knew is like a plain and long entry into our daily lives. But BuJo is more on a creative side. This type of journal is more flexible because we can do whatever we want. You can also do some decorations base on your personality. And this doesn't require artistic skills because it's personal use.
As I already mention about "personal use". This is not something you buy that has a template. You will have to purchase a dotted paged notebook. Others are using grid pages but it's fine besides your personal preferences are what matters here. In my opinion, I prefer BuJos to Planners. You don't need to wait until this or that month to start. BuJos doesn't have dates, templates, or whatsoever which you can start at the beginning, end of the year, or any in-between. Oh! and this can be your helping hand for your self-care routine logs!
II. Identify your theme and aesthetics
Of course, we must decorate based on what "aesthetics" suits the best to ourselves. Here, this step can tell you what kind of person you are. Since I can't tell what exactly your likes are, my tip is to find inspirations on Pinterest.
1. 'Soft' / Pastel theme
The keywords are 'Pastel', 'cute stickers' and 'Korean inspired aesthetics'. This theme is my current favorite. It will be easy for you if you have plenty of stickers. And using pastel highlighters is the key! You can use the Stabilo brand because it's affordable and nice quality but if you are into pricey but serves the best, go for Mildliner.
Tumblr media
2. Vintage theme
This theme is more on a brown palette and cursive or 'calligraphy' is common for titles or headers. This was my previous theme before I get into pastels. Achieving this is not hard, all you need is kraft papers, old pages from books or newspapers, metallic pens, and vintage stickers that you can purchase on online shop.
Tumblr media
3. Minimalist
In case you want to use your simple drawings skills instead of stickers this them is for you! Grab your highlighter and pens. For color schemes, go with neutral, brown, or gray to achieve a minimal theme.
Tumblr media
4. Mono (one color theme)
This is suitable if you want to have a clean look on your pages or just have one color in your mind. At least, you won't struggle to mix and match the colors. Have a 1 color set of papers, pens, and stickers, and you're settled.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
III. Variants in BuJo
Here are the things that you can do with bujo.
1.  Weekly (or daily or monthly) summary
A very helpful foundation to keep track of everything you want to accomplish within a time. You can include or make a calendar, series of to-dos, activity goals, or whatever serves your purpose. This can be your reference to things that change your life. If you have this you will keep motivated on what you achieve.
2. Dedication page
Another way of showing that 'fanatic' side of yours! For example, this is what others called 'K-pop spread' or 'page'. You can create your own and use your idol's favorite photos and decorate them. Any artist is okay as long as you're really a fan.
Tumblr media
  3. Visual Diary
Basically, you can talk about your day using stickers/pictures for more visuals. It will give you the mood you want to portray. I always use this variant because I'm the type of person that narrates my daily life but in a 'cute way'
Tumblr media
IV. Start and Create!
Now that I gave you a glimpse of this type of arts and crafts, it's not too late for you to start! I can assure you that this is fun. This type of activity helps us when times are tough for us. And we need something that will acknowledge us to take care of our health and make time for ourselves. Making BuJo is not strictly requiring you to be consistent or do it 24/7. The point of this is, whenever you need an outlet for things BuJo will be your friend.

any pastel highlighter recs/faves?
i know mildliners are always the most popular recommendations, but i’ll give u some other less mainstream options haha
dong-a pastel highlighters: they’re korean highlighters, which might make them harder to find, but they’re my current fav rn! the twinliners + miffy highlighters are both super great, but pick the twinliners if you want a dual tip (chisel tip on one end, bullet tip on the other). the miffy ones are scented, but they only have the chisel tip.
pilot frixion: these are super pale and transparent, which make them good for thin paper. there’s little bleedthrough, and these are more of a true pastel compared to the mildliners imo. the downsides are that they do erase under higher temperatures, so don’t leave these in your car during the summer + they can be a little too light for some folks. i find these easy on the eyes though.
uni propus soft color: i.....only like 2 colors out of the set (the aqua and purple) bc i think the rest are more fluorescent than pastel, but they have such little bleedthrough. the chisel tip is also more durable than the mildliners because of the clear plastic window in the tip. if you like all the colors, then get the set, but if you’re only interested in one or two like me, it’s more worth it to get them individually.
staedtler triplus textsurfer: these are less of a highlighter and more of a flexible marker, but i like that you can use them as a thin highlighter, a marker, and a brush pen because of the flexible tip. it’s just....so versatile, i love it. i love the colors, and in retrospect, i wish i had gotten the set. i’m getting super good use out of the ones i have tho (pink, brown, grey), and these are some of my more recent stationery favs.
kokuyo beetle tip soft color: these r interesting because they have two colors in one pen. the colors are a true pastel without being as transparent as the frixion. i genuinely like these a lot and should probably use them more HAHA. i can only use them as highlighters using the broad chisel tip though. i don’t find myself using the thinner tip or the “dual function” double colored line that the pen offers, but if you think you would use that a lot, go for it.
i wouldn’t recommend the morris retractable highlighters, the stabilo boss pastel highlighters, and the zebra mildliners because of their bleedthrough. they’re just so laden with ink that the tip often bleeds through my notebooks and loose-leaf papers. the zebra mildliners are fine if you start using them regularly because they stop being as inky way faster than the morris or the stabilo, but then, the tip frays and wears down easily. they’re still fine if you have them, and i still use mine regularly, but i use them more for markers and decoration and bullet journaling than i do for actual highlighting.

Any advice on how to start a studyblr?
sorry for the late reply!!! i’ve only gotten around to fixing stuff now. i hope this is still useful.   i find that these studyblrs have really wonderful guides, and were things i in fact looked at when i started my own studyblr: @studyquill: https://studyquill.tumblr.com/post/157697042218/part-1-start-a-studyblr-0-make-the-blog @eintsein: https://www.eintsein.com/post/152763310590/a-beginners-guide-to-starting-a-studyblr @emmastudies: https://emmastudies.com/post/158774823455/starting-a-studyblr in terms of personal advice + small things i’ve learned for being on studyblr and for opening and maintaining a studyblr: GENERAL GUIDELINES/SOME LIFE AND STUDY ADVICE 1. running a studyblr is and always will be secondary to actually studying. it is a tool, and it does place you within an intelligent and hard-working community. however, a studyblr will not in itself give you good grades or motivate you to study all the time. (trust me. i know this from 1L law life). create good study habits and time management first, and use studyblr as a supplementary tool to refine systems you already have in place. which brings me to my second point: 2. it really helps to see what other studyblrs have in terms of study resources and tips first. i think that’s one of the most valuable things you can take away from studyblr! when i was really lost and inexperienced, i looked at how other people worked through their personal and school problems, and i found my own way of doing things.  it’s okay to be a lurker at first and reblog reference (make a tag for it) because when you feel lost, you have your own pool of self-curated advice. you’re looking at other content and materials not to necessarily copy what people are doing and posting, but to integrate what they’ve learned into how you prefer to study and organize. 3, but do not compare yourself to others. i know it gets overwhelming to compare yourself to the seemingly perfect and beautiful things people have on here. when i was starting out, i was really sad that i didn’t know how to make beautiful bullet journals, and study in really fancy places, and have buckets of mildliners, and effortlessly get good grades. we only look at others to learn from them, but their experiences and lives are not, and never will be, ours. your life is your own, and you will become much more happy and productive when you accept what you have and what you can do as it is.  ACTUALLY RUNNING A STUDYBLR: SEVERAL TIPS  1. consider why you actually want one, and plan how you want to use it to achieve your goals. i started mine during thesis semester, and wanted to use the studyblr to stay accountable! 2. buying fancy things will not make you productive. you buy nice school things not to post for the aesthetic hashtag studygram shot, but because it genuinely makes your life easier and makes studying more comfortable.  3. follow people whom you admire and follow people with the same interests/course. it helps when you see that people are doing the same things you’re doing, and going through the same version of academic hell that you are. (jk). but seriously, the beauty of studyblr is in the community of people who love learning. reach out to them, and they’ll reach out to you. (and that becomes followers and mutuals!) 4. be nice. care about other people. care about social issues and current events. what you’re studying only matters if you’re a decent person, and knowledge does not exist within an isolated, academic bubble. 5. tagging. tag. know your studyblr tags. take note of ones that match your posts, and use them so that your posts can reach a lot of people. 6. TAKE PHOTOS IN NATURAL LIGHTING. IT ALWAYS LOOKS BETTER. find your own photography style, and the best way to represent how your study sessions actually go. be yourself and don’t feel like you have to “live an aesthetic”.  7. share the things you’re studying. share the things you’ve learned in relation to studying and productivity. others need those lessons too, and your wisdom and experience is something that will help somebody else. the priority here is learning, and inspiring other students to do the same. if you’ve learned something, pass it on.  8. always, ALWAYS focus on getting your schoolwork done and on fixing what you need to do versus spending time planning and making fancy notes and forming new systems and habits. organization and posting on studyblr are productive. but in the end, we’re all here to finish our homework and get our degrees. if that means staying off studyblr in the meantime, do that first. make a queue if you have to.  i hope that helps! i know this is a bit messy, but this is generally what i think i’ve come to realize over the 2~ years of running my studyblr. do message me if you have more specific questions, and i’ll try my best to help. -- sam <3

1. LG 27" HD Monitor
A second monitor will make your life 300% easier if you're doing your readings at home. Some people work better outside their home, but I take advantage of the peace and quiet in the early hours of the morning and get readings done before class. This keeps them fresh in my mind for class!
I use an HDMI adapter to connect it to my ancient laptop from undergrad, which is still chugging along just fine.
2. Sony WX-1000XM4 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones
Also crucial for studying, regardless of where it's taking place. These are comfortable and, in my opinion, a great price and worthy investment. I was able to stretch many years out of my high school Beats and decided I wanted to invest in some higher-quality headphones.
3. UBOTIE Wireless Keyboard & Mouse
A wireless keyboard maximizes the space and utility of a dual-monitor setup. This keeps you from having to reach over to your laptop to get to the keyboard. Personally, I love the sounds and feeling of a typewriter (shoutout to my gap year admin job for teaching me how to use one!) so I really love this option.
These were super easy to setup with the USB connection that's attached to the mouse.
4. YSAGI Reversible Desk Pad
Instead of buying a mouse pad, I went for a full desk pad to add a little color to my monochrome setup. This one is durable and so easy to clean.
5. LEUCHTTURM1917 Medium A5 Dotted Hardcover
I debated for a long time about the best way to keep track of readings and assignments. I've tried so many planners in the past, and I had yet to find the perfect one that I love so much that I keep up with it for the entire year. After doing some research, I found the perfect solution -- a planner that is entirely customizable, thanks to the bullet journaling method.
Bullet journaling is an umbrella term for designing your own journal/planner, usually on dotted paper. Because you design it however you'd like, it is very forgiving of a forgotten week or realizing you don't need five different trackers for every aspect of your life (or that maybe you do!). I set up the entire month ahead of time and fill it in with reading assignments each week.
Once I've filled the pages of this one, I'll likely replace it with a larger notebook and thicker pages (this one is 80 g/m2). The pages are numbered and it includes a table of contents, as well as two bookmarks.
6. Zebra Mildliner Double-Ended Highlighter
These are hands-down my favorite highlighters. They're light enough to not bleed through, they're a perfect size, and I love the colors in the assorted pack. These are double-ended, so they easily transition between highlighting your readings and emphasizing your notes. These same reasons make them perfect for use in a bullet journal.
7. Herschel Little America Mid-Volume
Another law school decision I spent the entire summer debating. How do I choose a backpack that looks both professional and fun? Once I decided on the Herschel, I also struggled with what size. I'm 5'4" so I ended up choosing the smaller 17L option, which ended up being the perfect size for me.

100 Days of Productivity Challenge Day 9/100
Good morning! I honestly feel like lazing around today but I’ll push through it. I have a writing exam on Wednesday, so I need to prep for that and review my past mistakes either today or tomorrow.
I picked up my new glasses in the morning and can’t tell if I like them or not. If things go well, I only need to wear them until January so it doesn’t really matter how much I like them. Take care of your eyes guys and be sure to give them a break every now and then if you wear contacts!
I ordered some stationary for bujo at the start of this month and the first item has arrived! The mildliner pack I got is cute and I love the colors. I’m planning to start a bullet journal at the start of 2021 maybe I’ll post my spreads here in the future.
If anyone seeing this has any plant suggestions (that are not toxic to cats) could you please share them? I really love monstera plants but they’re toxic to cats...T-T.
I don’t really have much of a goal for today. There’s nothing I really need to focus my day on aside from picking up some items from the pharmacy and figuring out a schedule that makes my supplements the most effective. I also need to start thinking about possibly freezing some meals for the future.
Here’s a quick rundown of my day.
Woke up at 8 AM
Picked up new glasses
Did some personal research and listened to a few episodes of the podcast ‘This is Actually Happening’
Made lunch for the family
Studied for 2 hours
Picked up some supplements my doctor suggested, I couldn’t find the specific eye drops I needed...T-T
Picked up some groceries* (*read pudding to comfort me through finals)
Solved worksheets

This was from last year! I posted it before but I didn’t do anything I wrote in that list and I didn’t want to be a big phoney so I deleted it but here it is again anyway because I miss my grey mildliner :”( in fair tho it lasted two years!!
I eventually shifted to the original style of bullet journaling, which helped me more than the artsy one. I do plan on having a separate journal for the creative stuff. My takeaway is: don’t be afraid to try again if a method doesnt work for you! don’t force things to work if they don’t, bc things like a bujo r supposed to help you hehe.
