Request by @luluwiie: how about Y/N helping Shouto (deliberately or not) to discover Christmas magic, and for the first time enjoy some good moments during Christmas time ? As they're still only-close-friends-but-secretely-pining-on-each-other, you know *^* Cause Pining. I love pining. Secret crush FTW

There seemed to be some kind of energy in the air – one that seemed to have wired every single one of Shouto Todoroki’s classmates into becoming a strangely more happy version of themselves. That was, of course, not to say that his classmates weren’t usually happy, they absolutely were, but during this time of year it was next level.

Taking in the scene before him, all he could really do was people-watch. Iida, if one could believe, was almost relaxed – leaning back in one of the chairs in the dorm living room and reading a book with a calm smile. A group of some of the girls, including Yaoyorozu, Jirou, and Uraraka, were trying their best to construct gingerbread houses. Even with the extra bags of icing Yaoyorozu created with her quirk, the walls kept falling down. But, even with each collapse of the houses, the girls just smiled, shook their heads, and tried again. Even Bakugou, against all odds, almost had a twitch of a genuine smile on his face as he bounced around the kitchen baking cookies, marinating several dishes for the night’s dinner, and prepping produce for the following morning.

It didn’t take a genius to figure out why. It was what many, if not most, called the most wonderful time of the year. Christmas. Well, to be more specific, Christmas Eve.

“You plan on joining in?” A soft voice sounded next to him. He smiled a bit and turned towards it.

“I’m not so sure.”

“Why’s that?”

“Christmas was never a particularly happy time for me.” Shouto wished he hadn’t really said it like that, because when he did, he had to watch your smile dim. His closest friend since the beginning, the first one he made, was you. You, with your pretty Y/E/C eyes and

“Ah.” You say. “I understand.”

“That’s not to say that you shouldn’t enjoy it. I’m just more at ease looking at all of this from afar.”

“Nah, it’s no fun if not everyone’s having fun. Especially if you, my closest friend, isn’t.” Shouto watch you brush a stray cookie crumb from the alpine sweater you were wearing.

“Baking cookies with Bakugou?” He asked. You snorted and bumped his hip with your own.

“More like stealing away with some of them. He makes a mean snickerdoodle.” Shouto hummed and turned back to his classmates, watching them make merry. He never felt so out of place.

“I may just head back to my dorm, catch up on some things.”

“We’re on break from school, Shouto.” You deadpan. “C’mon. Let’s do something else.”

“I don’t want to pull you away from anything,” he begins.

“You’re not pulling me away. In fact, I think I have a more fun idea in mind. Let’s go back to mine.”

“Just to recap,” Shouto says, sitting criss-crossed on your bead, “you want to checklist your way to making new holiday memories? So that I can enjoy Christmas?”

“Exactly!” You say, pointing towards him with the aforementioned list. “I’m telling you, I think you’ll find at least one of these things fun.” Shouto considered the list before him for a moment. Things like ice-skating, movie marathons, and gift shopping were all included.

“And you’ll do these things with me?” He asked, confirming that he wouldn’t be facing such activities by himself.

“Of course.”

“Then I’m sure everything will be fun.” It almost looked like a flicker of a blush danced on your cheeks, but he must have just been seeing things.

“Alright. Where do you want to start?”

“Well,” he considered, looking outside of his window. The sun had already set and a fair amount of snow was piling up on the ground outside, “seeing as many of our options involve going into the city, which isn’t entirely safe right now, we should probably settle on something a bit more tame.” You jumped to sit next to him on your bed, your hands going to the windowsill.

“Damn,” you say, shooting him a somewhat embarrassed look. Shouto couldn’t help but smile. He loved whenever you had that look on your face. Your nose scrunched a bit and your hands went to your cheeks.

“I’m happy with a movie,” he suggests, taking one of your hands from your cheeks. You pause for a moment, waiting for your breathing to get even after his actions, and then settle in.

“Well, it’s gotta be the perfect movie.” You think, grabbing your computer while Shouto unfurled the blanket at the bottom of your bed. “Nothing too cheesy but nothing too sad. So, probably, no Elf or It’s A Wonderful Life. Although It’s A Wonderful Life is so good.”

“Why don’t we watch it then?”

“It makes me cry. Kinda counterintuitive to me helping you make happy Christmas memories. But we’ll put it on the ‘to watch’ list.”

“And Elf is cheesy?”

“Kinda,” you admit, staring at the blinking line in your search bar. “Although it’s funny.”

“So you want something funny… and heartfelt… and something that helps with the idea of Christmas?”

“That’s it!” You exclaim, your fingers flying across the keys. You pull up a movie and sit back in your pillows with a satisfied smile, waiting for Shouto’s reaction.

“Love Actually?” He says, looking closely at the movie cover. “It doesn’t really sound like a Christmas movie.

“Trust me,” you say, putting a hand on his shoulder, “it is. The best.”

“I always trust you,” he says, giving you another one of those heart bursting smiles. The kind, it seems, he saved only for you. But of course, it was probably you making it up. He was your friend, as you had stated before, your closest friend. You did not want anything to mess that up, even if you had to keep some of your feelings under lock.

“Well then,” you clear your throat, “get ready for Christmas wonder.”

As the finishing notes of God Only Knows by the Beach Boys played from the tiny speakers in your computer, you sighed happily and closed your laptop. You turned to find Shouto, searching his face for any kind of reaction.

“So, thoughts?”

“That was…” he trails off. Immediately, a sense of disappointment in yourself bloomed.

“Oh god, you didn’t like it all did you?” You fret. “It was probably too much, I’m sorry, I should’ve found something else–”

“Y/N.” Shouto says, interrupting your rambling.

“Yeah?”

“I loved it.” Where panic took hold previously, excitement sparkled in your eyes.

“Really?”

“Yeah. I mean, some parts were certainly… interesting,” he says, making you laugh, “but I thought it was really nice. But,”

“Uh-oh,”

“I don’t really understand the whole message in terms of Christmas.”

“Huh?”

“Well,” he says, shifting a bit on your bed to face you more, “I understand that it all takes place during Christmas, but it mostly centered on relationships. Both good and bad. I still can’t believe he cheated on his wife with that girl though. And she forgave him? Just like that?” You laughed and leaned into him

“Well, I don’t think that’s the whole story. And they have kids, so she was putting them first. But, more importantly, it conveys the main message of Christmas.” You say to a dumbfounded Shouto.

“And what’s that?”

“Love, of course. In every situation, love is what remains constant. For a friend, for a family member, for their significant other… love is what Christmas is all about.” Shouto felt his heart speed up as he looked at you.

“I think I may be starting to get it.” Your breathing became short as he looked at you. It was quiet, so quiet, in your dorm room.

“You are?” You whisper.

“Yeah,” he says, bringing his hands to cup your face. You were moments from closing your eyes until someone banged on your door.

“Y/N! Todoroki! You in there?” You squeezed your eyes shut and sighed.

“Yep! What’s up Mina?” Shouto smiles as your frustration becomes evident on your face.

“We’re all gathering in the common room! One last activity before we all go to bed and wake up for Christmas morning!” You glance at Shouto to see him grinning, which makes you roll your eyes in amusement.

“Okay, we’re coming!” Shouto shuffles off of the bed first, helping you to your feet as well. The two of you leave your dorm and make your way down the hallway, only to stop in the doorway as you find all of your classmates face you with smug smiles.

“Is everything okay?” Shouto asks.

“Yeah guys, what’s up with the crowd?”

“Look up!” Uraraka smiles, pointing with one of her hands to whatever was above you. A cold sense of dread courses its way through your body as what you were worried about was confirmed. A seemingly harmless sprig of mistletoe was hung delicately on above the doorway, sitting just above you and Shouto. All of your classmates laugh as they see your face, making Shouto’s twist in confusion.

“Mistletoe?”

“Yeah,” you confirm sheepishly. “It’s this Christmas tradition where two people have to kiss if they walk underneath mistletoe at the same time. We don’t have to do it. It’s stupid, really.”

“On the contrary,” Shouto says, sweeping an arm around the small of your back, making your heart jump in your chest. “I actually kind of like Christmas traditions.” Your anxious smile turns into a wide grin.

“Really?”

“Mmm.” he hums in affirmation, using his other hand to tilt your head up towards him. “In fact, I think I love Christmas traditions.” You didn’t have time to come up with a cheeky response before he pressed his lips to yours. The whoops and cheers from your classmates faded to become background music. You couldn’t help but smile into the kiss, wrapping both of your arms around the nape of his neck. You went up on your tiptoes, leaning further into him and deepening the kiss. The both of you leaned away after a few moments, laughing as the class descended into pure chaos as several other duos, including Kaminari and Jirou as well as Midoriya and Uraraka, were being pushed towards the white-berried plant. Shouto led you back down the hallway to your room's door, pressing another kiss to your lips.

“Merry Christmas, Shouto.” You smile. Opening the door as you bid him goodnight.

“Merry Christmas, Y/N.” He says. He leaves you with one more quick kiss before he says goodnight. All you could do after you closed the door was slide down it, a lovesick smile on your face. You were in love and so was he. Actually.

U.A. High School Field Trip Around Japan: Day 7 Translation

This is the final day of Shonen Jump’s special commemoration of My Hero Academia reaching one hundred million copies worldwide, which is being rolled out daily across one-week in each prefecture’s newspaper.

BnHA Chapter 403: (But Just That One Part, Because I'm Not Caught Up)

Previously on BnHA: Truly no idea, but it kind of looks like Katsuki is riding some sort of spaceship, and everyone has gotten really, really sparkly. I see you all have been busy these past 22 months. Great job, keep it up.

Today on BnHA: “So it’s come to my attention that a truly shocking number of you are only reading this manga for a single character.” – Horikoshi Kouhei, October 2023.

so. where to start, lol

I guess I should open with an apology, because I am about to make a fairly selfish decision! what I am about to do, is post a reaction to Bakugou’s Return To The Manga. however, because I’m not caught up, I’m going to be reading this one scene completely out of context without knowing anything about what is going on. which means that I’m going to be missing out on god knows how many nuances and details, which means this reaction post will be short on those things as well. so basically I’m prioritizing my own personal gratification as a fan here even though it is 100% going to affect the quality of my reaction blog, and for that I genuinely am sorry. eventually I will finish catching up, and when that happens I will post a proper reaction with all the trimmings. that’s just how it is for now though

anyway so with that said, basically what I’ve done now is I have gone to the scanlation website, and clicked on chapter 403, and then scrolled down through most of the chapter while sort of half-looking away from my screen with my eyes squinted so that everything is mostly blurry, until I finally reached the big double-page spread with you-know-who doing his thing. namely, standing around on this giant glowy cereal bowl from the future, which appears to be either hovering up in the air, or slowly crashing onto the ground

and this right here, is exactly what I was rambling on about a moment ago. you guys I really am sorry to be doing this, because even I can tell this should be solemn and sincere moment of awe and excitement and relief. but because I completely lack any context whatsoever for wtf is happening, most of the dramatic impact is lost on me, and to tell the truth right now this page is a hell of a lot funnier than it has any right to be

like, so Deku. this boy is crying all the tears. I recklessly scrolled back up one page to see why, and it appears the answer is Because All Might Is About To Fucking Die (which, !??!?), so that’s actually VERY fucked up, and I’m sure I will have PAGES AND PAGES OF WORDS to say about all of that once I finally catch up properly. that is very traumatic and emotional and I will probably cry a lot about it

BUT, that being said, I just need you guys to know that without that context, Deku standing here with his giant head all >:O in the foreground, while Kacchan appears out of nowhere glowing with the power of a thousand suns and standing on top of this giant floating Smash Bros level that Nezu maybe probably built with his nine million dollars, is one of the wildest fucking things I’ve seen in my life. I feel like an accidental time traveler. you know when a character has one of those crazy prophetic dreams showing them chaotic glimpses of the future, and they’re just standing there all “???” because they have absolutely no clue what the fuck is going on? that is what it’s like right now

“did you miss me, Izuku. back by popular demand after being on IR for 14 goddamn months. rebuilt better and stronger than ever thanks to the heroic spaghetti man wrapped tightly around my heart keeping me alive. just BnHA things. just a flesh wound. by the way, it’s me, Kacchan, just in case you didn’t recognize me on account of my still being really far away and completely covered by smoke, and also you thinking I was dead. here let me give you a close up to make this easier”

“fuck yeah. it really is me, btw. just in case you still couldn’t tell on account of me also being like 100x prettier than you remembered. guess it’s just that blindingly handsome character development”

also, “the end of an era” um hello, yes, what?? just what exactly have I missed here with all this All Might stuff?? because apparently All Might just prior to this was in some sort of mortal danger, is what I’ve been hearing, because everyone keeps posting excitedly about Kacchan showing up in the nick of time to save him? which incidentally makes my heart so incredibly fucking warm omg. it’s what both of them need AND deserve

why is everything so goddamn sparkly right now. this is like a Sailor Moon battle over here

love that look of instant recognition and shock and overpowering relief in Deku’s eyes though. also has he really been fighting in this cracked out OFA-overflowing mode this entire time?? he looks just like he did on the cover of volume 37. I still haven’t seen his actual canon reaction to the “death”, and I haven’t been keeping tabs on his fight with AFO??/Tomura?? at all, but I’m glad it looks to have been as emotional as I could have hoped

aw fuck yeah

his precious card. I’m now almost as invested in the saga of the All Might card as I am in all the rest of this. it’s all beat to hell, but somehow still made it through in the end. just like him

so is the reason this fight is so sparkly just because of OFA symbolism, then?? or is there something else happening here?? goddammit, okay, I‘m gonna very carefully scroll back to the beginning of the chapter, because I’m 100% positive there is some sort of deeply meaningful symbolic thing going on here and I’ll be damned if I miss out on it, spoilers or no

IS THAT HIS MOM???? OH MY GOD DID WE GET ALL MIGHT BACKSTORY. oh my god. oh god. no actually don’t tell me, ahhhh I cannot fucking wait to read this properly, holy shit

so did something wind up happening to Mighty Mom later on then?? feels like it must have, since he wound up getting so attached to Nana? man I don’t want to think about any of that stuff after seeing this panel though :( just, damn it, why is this man’s whole entire life so goddamn fucking tragic

“the one thing I’ve done most is looking back to the path I took” my god I cannot wait to read this. only two short pages and I’m already buried miles deep into my All Might feels. came here for the triumphant Kacchan return and now I’m sitting here tearing up about All Might, god damn you Horikoshi YOU’VE STILL GOT IT. and I am STILL A SUCKER FOR ALL OF IT

anyway, so now back we go to the last couple of pages with this additional context, aaaaand...

...and apparently I’m now full-on crying about All Might! (: well how about that. turns out when you read the manual and follow the instructions properly this series still works exactly as advertised. don’t mind me I’m just sitting here sobbing because everything is exactly what I wanted and I apparently don’t know how to deal with that!!

THEIR FEELINGS BECOME WHAT?!?!?!

EVERYTHING IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED AND I’M GONNA BE A MESS ABOUT IT FROM NOW UNTIL THE END OF TIME BECAUSE LIFE IS GRAND!!

ARE ALL OF THESE WATERY SPARKLES LIKE. DEKU’S FUCKING TEARS LMAO OR WHAT. HOW IS KACCHAN IN THE SPLASH ZONE. HOW ARE HIS TEARS HOLDING UP THE SPACESHIP. I DON’T UNDERSTAND A GODDAMN THING BUT THIS IS NOW OFFICIALLY A SHOUJOU MANGA, I DON’T MAKE THE RULES

the urge to ruffle baby Deku and baby Kacchan’s hair is so goddamn powerful you don’t understand. this is PRIMAL. they are SO happy and SO good and perfect. I’m gonna fucking die

there’s not even any dialogue. what the fuck are they even gonna say. their expressions say it all and more. also they are being kind to me because they know I’m not caught up so they don’t want to spoil me any further, thank you my sons

lastly, I guess, because I don’t really have anything else to add now that my brain has fully turned to sappy mush: so uh. I truly have not the slightest clue how or why, but. does Kacchan have OFA though. and why is the answer, “yes he definitely does.” ???

like, I don’t understand it, but I confess that by now I have spoiled myself on the last few pages of chapter 362 for reasons (those reasons being “I finally gave in and looked at them on purpose, because I’d already seen most of them out of context here and there, and my willpower is only so strong”), and so I know that this boy was talking to vestige!Might, and as far as I’m aware that is 100% not possible unless he has some sort of connection to OFA in some way so yeah

and now here he on this last page being all Profoundly Connected with Deku while they gaze into each other’s eyes, and I can’t help but notice that said eyes are all explodey and they look a LOT like Deku’s actually. and on top of that we have all of this All Might symbolism that I’m still crying about, so like? ???

anyway so I’m not going crazy here right? like this is definitely a thing? for whatever reason?? unless you guys know something here that I don’t. in which case I actually am asking to be spoiled fully just this once, because at this point I just need to know one way or the other and I don’t care lol

anyway so that concludes my thoughts I guess! so now my absurdly ambitious goal is to speed read the manga this next week and hopefully at least catch up to Kacchan’s “death”, so that I can better understand what’s happening when I inevitably wind up spoiling myself for chapter 404 as well. the plan right now is to still type up my liveblog notes as I go, but to not worry about posting or editing anything in between chapters. so I’ll have a big backlog of chapter recaps which I’ll eventually get to uploading whenever I can, but in the meantime I can participate more in the fandom side of things. since I really want to share all of my endgame theories and so forth, but in order to do that I really need to find out just what the fuck is actually going on lol, so yeah

How a relationship with Shoto Todoroki would develop by Vi ✨

Hi everyone, It's Vi! ✨ Today I was thinking about how would a relationship with Shoto be like so I wrote this. Hope u enjoy! ☺️ (Again, I'm sorry if there are any grammatical mistakes, english is not my first language 🙏🏻)

Strangers to friends

• When you both entered the U.A, Shoto wasn't interested in making friends as his mission was to supperpass Endeavour. He didn't have time for things as trivial as establishing relationships and he made it known to everyone around him. However, everything changed when he scored a low grade at the spanish exam. He actually thought he could manage that class easily without help but it didn't seem like it and that really damage his self-esteem. Aizawa already knew Shoto would've a negative reaction so he suggested to asked his classmates for help and let's just say, the idea didn't thrilled him. Everybody was asking Yaoyoruzu, Bakugou or Deku for help but he was too proud to asked them. He would figured out something by himself.

• Shoto spent the whole week reading Spanish books but he just couldn't grasped the concept. Also, his irritation grew more as his classmates were progressing faster that him (thanks to the tutoring lessons they were given)

One afternoon in particular, Shoto was in the library working on some exercises when one girl from his class appeared. She grabbed a book and sat down near him. As much as he would like to say he couldn't care less about her, he definitely knew who she was. Her name was y/n, she had an air manipulation quirk and a very distracting face. And by "distracting", he meant "the prettiest face he's ever seen" and what bother him so much it's that, more often than not, he would give quick glaces her way during class and completely forget what he was doing.

Shoto has never been able to make friends as his father always put training above more mundane things so he had cero social skills. So this "attraction" he felt towards her was also something he had never experienced before and even he wanted to get closer to her, he just didn't know how so instead, he did his best to ignore her. However, it was kind of difficult as she definitely was the nicest person he's ever meet.

• y/n saw he was struggling with some spanish exercises and offered to help as it was her first language so it was easy for her and eventhough he declined her offer many times, she helped him anyway. It was actually the best decision she could ever make as not only he got on of the highest scores in class but also, Shoto finally let her get closer to him even if he still had this "unapproachable actitud". And that's how their friendship started and honestly, everybody was shocked that the 1A's rain of sunshine was friends with Todoroki.

• At first it was only saying hi to each other, sitting together at lunch and training together. However, over time, Shoto warmed up to her (and also to others) so they hung out at y/n's bedroom where they watched movies and also had this tradition where they would go to different restaurants or cafe every month.

• After the Sports festival, Endeavour offered y/n to do a internship at his agency along with his son but, for Shoto's relief, she said no as she went to pro hero Hawks agency. Eventhough he would've liked to spent more time with her, he wanted to keep his father away from y/n and her quirk. He felt the need to protected her but little did he know that wasn't just him being connected with but something else; something more deeper and he was about to find out...

Friends to lovers

• Fuyumi invited Shoto's friends, Izuku and Bakugou, to have dinner at their house but Endeavour and her were not expecting someone else to appeared after they all were at the table. Shoto had sent a last minute message to invite y/n but didn't want to tell his sister beforehand as she would've pushed the topic and, honestly, he wasn't ready to rationalized those feelings. Because lately, he's been feeling this kind of excitement every time he caught a glimpse of her, smiling a lot more when she was around and his breath was taken away when she would put her head on his shoulder or held his hand. He could be dense sometimes but he wasn't an idiot, deep down he knew this meant something else but was too coward to act on it. Everybody was shocked to see the young lady as Shoto was someone who kept his private life for himself. Izuku, Bakugou, y/n and him survived the tense situation and where about to head home but not before Fuyumi did an interrogation to Shoto about this new friend of his. Her sixth sense told her little brother was in fact, in love with the e/c girl. It was just too obvious! his sister noticed how his normally "irritated face" (because of Endeavour) light up when y/n arrived or how he was always attentive and paying attention to what she did or what she was saying. Also, when she asked y/n if she was Shoto's girlfriend he did not denied but blushed instead. So she really hoped his brother could be happy with her and treat her right

(Of course Fuyumi gave y/n her number for exchanging recipes and update her about his little brother)

•One particularly day, during training, Izuku and y/n were sparing together, something very unusual as she always trained with Todoroki. At first, he thought that maybe she just wanted to try fighting with other quirks (eventhough theirs work perfectly together) so he kept going with his day as usual. However, when she sat next to Midoriya at lunch and were having a very animated conversation, he started to feel a bit irritated but didn't say anything. That night, he had been so busy that he ended up showering really late. As he was walking to his room, he saw y/n coming out of Midoriya's bedroom and when she realised he just caught her, her eyes widened and she nervously said goodbye to him and left in a hurry. Oh, Shoto saw red! If it wasn't for the fact that Deku had closed his door quickly, he would definitely be freezed by now. He didn't like this feeling of pure range but he couldn't help it. Since when they got along so well? What was so fascinating about Midoriya that everybody fell to his feets? Gosh he prayed she didn't like his friend like that cause he didn't know what he would do. All this interaction lighted up an alarmed that remainded him that she won't wait forever, that he needed to confess before he lost her to someone else

• Shoto couldn't sleep that night, planning his confession and imagining possible scenarios and reactions to it. He didn't know if she felt something more than a friendship and honestly, he was scared shirtless cause he didn't want to lose their great friendship, he wouldn't known what to do with himself if y/n rejected him. He couldn't go back to how his life was before her appeared in it and made it worth living beyond a revenge. And, eventhough he was terrified of her response, it was better than to keep those feelings bottled. So the next morning he left a letter on her desk saying he needed to talked to her and that they should met at the school's terrace.

• Once she stood in front of him, he didn't let her ask any questions and just went straight to the point (as he always did) "Look y/n, the reason I called you here today was because something's been bothering me for a while. You and my feelings for you. Since we first spoke, I thought you were too good to be actually true and when you became my friend, I felt blessed to have someone I can trust and who doesn't judge me. Someone who taught me that it's ok to cry sometimes and that my feelings are valuable. I even started to opened up more to others. And all thanks to you! I'm not gonna lie, when I saw you with Midoriya yesterday, my heart hurt cause the thought of being so close to you yet losing you, was just too much. I know I'm being selfish. You deserve someone who has no trouble expressing their emotions or someone who isn't carrying childhood scars that haven't healed yet (emotionally speaking) Maybe you should be with someone as nice as Midoriya" he paused and continued "but what I'm trying to say is that, if you ever feel anything for me that makes you appreciate the good things above all the bad things I have, I swear to love you with my heart and soul. Take it both of them, it's full of you. Take all of me y/n, I'm already yours anyway... It's ok if you don't reciprocate, I mean you don't -" And Shoto was definitely not expecting for her to kiss him but he won't complain. The kiss was a bit clownsly as they were inexperienced but it was beautiful because they loved each other and they would've time to learn. From that day, Shoto kept his promise to loved her and protect her and he felt in love with her every day all over again.

This is the letter Horikoshi wrote in the extras of Volume 39, it’s quite the interesting read:

« As many of have already noticed, most chapters have become shorter. This is due to the speed at which I draw decreasing over the years and my schedule being a total mess. Because of that, I've been talking to the higher ups of the editorial department on a regular basis so that we can decide on the number of pages for each chapter in advance, allowing MHA to be included in the magazine. I know it's 100% my fault, but I always find myself thinking "if only I could draw a few more pages...!". I'm really self-centered, ain't I? How awful.

So they told me that chapter 395, "Built Upon The Joys of Others", would be 13 pages long. But, as you can see, it ended up with 15 pages. And that's thanks to Imamura-san, my editor. I made a 13 pages long first draft, but it was evident that I had to hinder the narrative for it to work. If I were a better author, maybe those 13 pages would have been enough... So, I took that first draft and handed it to Imamura-san, who read it and fell silent. After a while, he said: "...what if you added two more pages?"

An editor increasing the page count based on their personal opinion is considered a major taboo. After all, the magazine consists of many series and many chapters. But Imamura-san is a relatively younger editor, so maybe that's why. "Is that even possible?!", I asked, and his eyes lost their sparkle.

"Don't worry, I'm the only one who's going to get scolded. I liked this draft, but I think this chapter has the potential to be even better. So, I'm asking you to draw two more pages within the time limit. If the deadline comes and you haven't done it, it'll be a problem for everyone. What do you say, Horikoshi-san?"

His eyes were as black as a black hole. They were pits without any light. And that's how we managed to publish chapter 395 with 15 pages.

What I'm trying to say is that both Imamura-san and the editorial department are giving their all to make sure that MHA comes out in the best possible way. If it weren't for their efforts, maybe it wouldn't be possible for the serialization to continue. So I want to take this opportunity to thank them. Thank you very much.

And I want to send a message to everyone who's entering adulthood: meet your deadlines and avoid causing trouble for other people. Otherwise, their eyes will be filled with darkness.

(Come to think of it, I never managed to finish my summer vacation homework on time. I should have realized back then that I wasn't fit for life in society)»

hi hello ive just come from your enneagram 9 izuku post and i am just OVERWHELMED with joy & excitement after reading it, everything you said just feels so RIGHT!!

(i am a nine myself & have always felt weirdly attached to izuku in that he felt soso similar to me in such a weirdly specific way but i couldn't really explain why i just Got Him until now, so thanks for that little boost of validation lol)

with your post in mind, i couldn't stop thinking about this line from 412 and it got me curious if you had any additional thoughts on it/read it the same way i did:

the moment i read this line i immediately took a screenshot & filed it away in my Important Izuku Moments file, like idk! the wording of it, the way he's talking about shigaraki but could SO easily be talking about himself, that honestly devastating panel of the tears in his eyes...

we've gotten plenty of hints about izuku's emotional suppression (that 'heroes dont cry' scene with iida & todoroki, his flashback of all might telling him to 'stop being such a cry baby' during the afo fight, the whole 'control your heart' plotline...) but THIS line in particular feels so significant for some reason. maybe cause this could easily be izuku recognizing himself in/through shigaraki? maybe bc it is so close to izuku acknowledging the lid hes put on his own sad & lonely past? maybe bc this is the closest we've ever gotten to izuku saying i'm not okay, even if he isn't actually talking about himself yet?

im trying really hard not to ramble too much in your inbox lol, but everything you said in your post about tomura & izuku really hit home for me, i think you're so right about them. and this line in particular is what makes me think we really are going to see some version of tomura being the one to finally break through (Decay) izuku's emotional blocks & barriers (something something locked door imagery), and that just makes me really excited. for both of them :')

YAY!! I’m so glad to hear you resonated with it. It’s otherwise a bit of a “if you know you know” sort of situation, and it felt good to actually explain it.

I had a “!” moment with that panel too, and also when he says he’s determined to break through Tomura’s barrier, expose and acknowledge his pain.

My immediate thought was, “Oh hey, I’m definitely not making this shit up after all, because Horikoshi is obviously intending to confront the concept of bottling up your emotions/your past. He literally just stated it. We're on the same page.” While it didn’t directly confirm anything about Izuku, it's at least something he is aware of, which is an important first step. There's a line in Sleeping At Last's 'Nine' that I was thinking about a lot as I was writing the latter part of that post: "I'm just trying to find myself through someone else's eyes," which speaks to a need for Tomura to be Izuku's mirror, so that he can see himself.

Also, the revelation that Izuku is clinging to the idea that everyone has a "human heart" deep down is pretty clearly applicable to himself too, implying that he's dealing with a lack of self worth (a lot of Japanese fans were talking about this, and I think it doesn't come across as easily in English). I really love how Kudou clarified that Izuku is not naive for this. It's not the same as being blissfully ignorant to how cruel people can be. It's more like, "I need to believe in the worth of others or else I can't believe in myself." That's... so painful and beautiful.

I'm also excited for what comes next! Very soon!

you ever think about how katsuki's feelings of constantly *losing to izuku* have been addressed plenty times and yet - with izuku's feelings on constantly *failing to save katsuki* there's been barely anything. i know he blocks out those specific traumatic moments but like. do you ever just think about it 🧍

Kacchan is much more upfront and vocal about his feelings than many people give him credit for T-T especially since he hasn't just expressed the fear of losing to Deku, but also the fear of losing him. He hasn't directly told him about it, but it is there!! outwardly!!!! He's admitted it to himself, their future best man All Might knows all about it from their talk, as do their classmates from his behavior at the hospital, as does AFO thanks to Ragdoll's Search? (つ﹏<。)

Deku is a little repressed blockhead (and a shitty nerd who's oblivious about these things, lest we forget), but personally even if he hasn't addressed his feelings yet, to me the content that we do have is 💯🔥

I don't have them at hand atm, but pretend that the panels building up to Kacchan's rescue are here too + also insert Horikoshi's interview where he said that it was painful for Deku to give up on being the one to reach out to him (AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH-). Everything is much more intriguing exactly because he refuses to face all of this head on imo _(:3 」∠)_

In general I wouldn't say that there isn't much on Deku's part, just that it's harder to have the broader fanbase acknowledge it because many people refuse to accept anything that isn't 100% made clear (and oftentimes not even then, seeing how split the reaction to the whole Closest Person™ thing was, to remain on the topic of their relationship), so it's harder to get everyone to pay attention to these details

I have a question for you, anon - does it matter if Endeavor cared/loved her in that romantic sense you're implying? Does that mitigate his actions? Are you saying "Endeavor abused Rei but at least he loved/cared about her" or are you saying "Endeavor loved Rei so that should mean something" or....? Because Horikoshi is telling us through his art and story that Endeavor's feelings or intentions don't offset or make up for what happened; he was the villain of his own family, he was the root cause.

Plain and simple. He still abused Rei.

Also, love and caring aren't mutually exclusive. I care about my coworkers, but do I love them? No. I love my abusive parent, but do I care about their likes and dislikes? Not really.

You can still abuse someone you love and care about, ex: your children, your significant other, etc. Abuse doesn't always mean the absence of close attachment. It's often a precursor or even necessary for the abuse to take place.

The flowers are Enji's way of showing that he cares about Rei, yes. That much is obvious. He's regretful of his actions but he's also a proud, stubborn man concerned with appearances and aware he's probably a huge trigger, so he's been trying to repent with her in subtle ways. IE, the flowers. They're his way of saying that he no longer only views her as merely a person he sought out to breed the perfect hero with - she's a person who existed before meeting him and who exists without him, a person with likes and dislikes, with hopes and dreams... a person he deeply hurt physically and mentally. This is his way of starting to make amends. Sending the flowers she liked = him acknowledging her humanity outside of her "duty" to him via marriage and mother to his children.

That much is obvious.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. If speculating that maybe Endeavor harbored a secret crush or feels the basic human emotion of caring about the other parent of his children is your way of humanizing and making him more palatable, have at it. Ask yourself if Endeavor loving or caring about Rei alters, lessens, justifies, changes, his abuse.

Horikoshi hasn't left any room for debate on romantic feelings between them, though. If we're going to use the "well soandso remember that soandso likes blablabla" argument then we can also use that on pretty much everyone in bnha. Deku knows Bakugo is fond of spicy foods, and he cares about him, yes. Literally, Tomura remembers everything about Deku. At this point in the story, does Tomura care about Deku in a nice way? No. But he definitely cares about him enough to always think about him and remember things about him.

So, yeah, not sure what argument you're trying to generate, but I'm not interested in talking through it because I've talked about it hundreds of times before. I won't be talking about it anymore. The canon material is clear and meta isn't needed, and like I said, I've written about it before.

AFO Bad Ending Event Winners!!!

@possiblycringe and I are happy to announce our winners for writing and art! This was INCREDIBLY difficult and I can honestly say that the differences between any rank is “by a hair”!

Everyone’s work was outstanding and I’m honored to have so many talented people interested in this event!

Writing

So, let me reiterate how incredibly difficult this was! Everyone’s work was SO DAMN GOOD! This meant, I had to go with my gut and what endings satiated my AFO loving self! I also took into account how the story worked with the inevitable bad ending.

1st: Katydid’s Erase These Scars @aimportantdragoncollector

Katydid submitted three works for the event for each type of bad ending. This work, however, hit me differently. I’m a sucker for whump and following Yoichi’s struggle with trauma and how his brother evolves to understand him(the best AFO can) was a very interesting read. AFO won in the end, but Yoichi won’t ever be the same, as is true for anyone living with trauma.

2nd: Ginko’s Learned Helplessness @ginkotracks

This was a hard read and I couldn’t help but tear up throughout this story of reconditioning and helplessness. I like how the ending can be taken as AFO finally winning…or a nobody wins scenario thanks to the reveal of a certain “savior”. I’ve never read a fic that tackles this type of very believable canon divergent plot!

3rd: Space-Cryptid’s if the devil don’t take me, hell will @space--cryptid

Not going to lie, I had Coffeeandtoastforbreakfast’s submission in my head reading this, but most importantly, the horrific AFO in the OFA vestige world sketch they did as a follow up! I loved how AFO was so sure of himself in his win here, but Yoichi turned the tables and pulled a fast one resulting in a heartbreaking ‘nobody wins’ ending! Cryptid also did an alternative bad ending for their collab fic with Katydid, “Perennial Bloom” which was also very “bad”! Check that out too!

Honorable Mention: Silver’s Lost Treasures

I love a good alternate universe and this one was very interesting with the initial setting of an old boat taking AFO back home after finding an important treasure in the deep jungle. The relationship between Yagi and his son, in this AU, Izuku, was very well done. AFO being a maddening, manipulative, rich creep was amazing. What’s more…I just couldn’t help but have flashbacks to my youth loving the movie ‘Anaconda’, especially when Yagi is almost drowned by what I tell myself was most definitely an Anaconda! The end is frustrating for the reader, but in a good way! You can really feel Izuku’s sorrow!

As an honorable mention, I will write a 500 word snippet if you decide to do that!

I know @possiblycringe was definitely a mess trying to figure out who should get #1 and, just as with the writing submissions, entries won by “a hair”!

Like most of 1-A, Kaminari also maintains friendships with people outside of his main friend circle. He and Ojiro are seatmates and also friends. He seems to take a lot of comfort in Ojiro’s tail, and according to BNHA’s wiki, he also confides in Ojiro himself. It isn’t known, what exactly he confides to Ojiro about. But apparently, Kaminari has some stuff to confide about.

Kaminari has been portrayed as a light-hearted character, but I think there were a lot of interesting - and unfortunately lost - opportunities to explore the darker corners of his mind, similarly to what we got with Kirishima. We know that they exist, because we were shown a bit of his feelings of inadequacy, before he got his pointer shooter, and a bit of his fears, when we got the short ship scene between him and Jirou during the PLW. I appreciated those moments, but I would have liked to see much more of that.

For example, I was fine with Aoyama being the UA traitor. To me, that plotline did feel coherent. However, I’m also intrigued by fanon’s musings about Kaminari as the traitor. Especially the idea of Kaminari injuring Kirishima while fleeing, after he's accidently discovered by the latter. Juat imagine the potential of that drama! Bakusquad being dented! Bakugou being enraged and hurt! Jirou being hurt and enraged! The fallout of demoralization and emotional hurt for all of 1-A!

Imagine a similar expression when !traitor Kaminari gets caught red-handed. And electrocutes one of his closest friends in order to escape.

I expected, then hoped for Kaminari' promotion to temporary main cast, similar to what Kirishima got during the Shie Hassaikai arc. Unfortunately, that hope remains unfulfilled.

...

I won’t get into the potential of his quirk because I’m not very well-versed in quirk-technicalities.

I do find this hypothesis from other fans convincing: At some point, Horikoshi noticed that the power potential of Kaminari’s quirk was too OP, which at some parts, could have broken the story . In order to prevent that, Kaminari never received any extended major screentime and focused character development.

Everyone, say "thank you, animators!" - A rare instance of Kaminari looking badass.

At the very least, I would have liked to know Kaminari’s motivations for going through rigorous training to become a professional hero. As far as I remember, we never learned about them.

My Hero Academia Chapter 390: Shoto Todoroki: Rising Spoiler Thoughts

It’s the dead of midnight where I am while typing this and the leaks for Chapter 390 just finished and holy shit what a ride. Phenomenal chapter, 10/10, beautiful, stunning, heartwarming, heartbreaking, I need a full 2 weeks to recover. Which we’re actually going to get because Horikoshi is taking yet another break thank god. Give that man a vacation already, Shonen Jump. OK, onto my very long immediate thoughts:

So real quick, things are going to be kind of scattered due to it being late and my mind being all over the place so please be patient ☺️

So, Shoto Todoroki: Rising. A lot of people including myself saw this one coming once we were focusing primarily on the Todoroki family and we were hitting chapter 390. Horikoshi seems to have a thing for the 90s chapters since Endeavor Vs. High-End was on Chapter 190 and Dabi’s Dance was 290. Interesting choice, but it works thematically and it makes it easy to go back and read the important chapters once they come out in physical volume.

That said, I’m so, so glad Shoto got a Rising chapter of his own. It’s been a very long time coming and this was his chapter. Shoto became the hero he is meant to be and used his own personal growth, his friend’s help (especially Iida here, someone please check on him later), and his family to stop Touya and probably save him. I’m so proud of him. He’s come such a long way and I love him so much. Shoto is my favorite character in the series for a good reason.

I love the part in Shoto’s narration while he’s running at full speed (thanks to Iida launching him and propelling himself via Phosphor) where he basically says the conflicts he’s faced and the way his friends feel towards others are things that helped him start to understand other’s feelings. This is basic human empathy at it’s core, but remember that Shoto was incredibly cold (no pun intended) and stoic at the beginning of the series. Even after Deku saved him in the Sports Festival, it didn’t automatically fix that stoicism and social ineptness. He was still struggling to understand people even, but he’s trying to get better at it to the point where he’s practicing talking to people better. It’s fantastic growth on Shoto’s part, really.

Shoto thinks to himself that if Dabi’s origin was so simple, it could’ve been stopped long ago. While I agree with Shoto to an extent, it’s more complicated than that as we’ve learned. Endeavor could’ve trained Touya more to the point where his Quirk would’ve developed to gain Rei’s ice. This would’ve made Endeavor’s dream child come true and Natsuo and Shoto would never have been born. But, Endeavor didn’t want to take the risk of having Touya constantly hurting himself with his own flames and his obsession with making an ice/fire child to beat All Might ultimately pushed everyone to the brink. Of course, everyone but Shoto played a part in Touya’s decline, and the whole situation is complicated enough as it is. So, it’s hard to say how “easy” this could’ve been solved in the first place. Maybe if Endeavor wasn’t such an obsessive bastard in the past, I don’t know. It’s hard to say, things were rough even before the kids were born.

There’s one panel when Shoto winds up his attack where it depicts him as a crying child and I DID NOT NEED TO SEE THIS TODAY, HORIKOSHI HOW DARE YOU MAKE ME CRY OVER BABY SHOTO’S SUFFERING AGAIN!!! 😭

Guys, the way I sat there for 5 straight minutes with my mind running circles around “IS SHOTO ALIVE???” when I saw the panel of the kids smiling. Holy shit I was paralyzed.

So, Shoto launches a massive Great Glacial Aegir attack on Touya and actually manages to stop the explosion. He managed to save his entire family holy fucking shit. The sigh of relief when I saw the panel of Shoto still standing was palpable, my dudes.

Really good of Shoto to mention that Rei’s, Natsuo’s, and Fuyumi’s Frost Quirks helped Shoto stop Dabi since his ice alone wasn’t enough to put out Dabi’s flames. So, Shoto and his family really did stop Dabi all together like they promised. Way to bring things full circle.

And Shoto also mentions that because he can’t do everything on his own that he’s not the “masterpiece” Endeavor once thought he was. Again, great way to bring things around. Shoto’s not perfect Quirk-wise and that’s ok. It just means he’s still got ways to go and that he’s become his own man.

And holy shit everyone took a hit with this battle. I won’t be surprised if we see new scars on all the Todoroki’s. Shoto’s costume is pratically torn in half, though I’m surprised the cooler/heater on his back is still working. He’s bleeding from his nose too probably from being put through the ringer (he was real intense in that last attack; I’m positive his eyes were whited out in one panel where he attacked). Endeavor looks like he’s going to collapse and Dabi looks crispy as hell. No seriously, that man is cooked and his eyes have been burned completely off. I’m surprised he’s still alive now.

And Dabi still thinks everyone including himself should die. And then, Endeavor comes in and apologizes for everything to everyone in his family. To Touya for not going to Sekoto Peak, to Rei for all the abuse he put her through, to Fuyumi for putting all the responsibilities on her shoulders, to Natsuo for abandoning him, and finally to Shoto who says “I’m sorry...” to before he passes out. Some people will call out Endeavor for this, but it’s part of his arc to do something like this. Even if it won’t mend all fences, even he continues to apologize for his sins for the rest of his life, it’s still genuine progress for his character and I can’t help but appreciate that. Horikoshi continues to remind us of what Endeavor did in the past without asking us to forgive him entirely despite his atonement arc and this is another example of that.

Honestly, I really thought someone was going to die this chapter. The last few pages made it out to be like Dabi and Endeavor especially were going to bite the dust. For now, they’re unconscious, so we’ll see where Horikoshi takes us with them sometime later. I hope they’re both alive tbh. I was REAL worried Horikoshi was going to have the titanium steel balls to kill off Shoto for a hot minute, though. But, I don’t think that would’ve been a satisfying conclusion to his and his family’s arc, and I think having Bakugo dead is more than enough shock for any of us. Also, happy 300 days of being “dead”, Bakugo. Please come back soon 🥲.

EDIT: Ok, so it was clarified that Shoto is the one who passed out at the very end. You can see his small figure spread out on the ground in the last panel. I’m sure Endeavor is out too, but Shoto passing out makes sense. He put so much energy into these last two fights. He must be so exhausted poor thing 😭

Finally, the chapter ends with a POV change to Ochako Vs. Toga now that everyone’s safe from the explosion. We’re also getting another break next week, so nothing until at least the middle of June. It’s rough, but I’m ok with it since this chapter was incredible and probably hard on Horikoshi to write and draw. I truly hope he gets a vacation and doesn’t rush into things though.

So, the Todoroki Family arc is pretty much done for now, huh. Not gonna lie, it feels weird since it’s been the one of the main side-storyline since the Sports Festival all those years ago. Though I’m glad to see things wrapped up in a very satisfying way for me at least. Everything came full circle, I cried, I cheered, I got my emotions thrown out the window and sent on multiple roller coasters. It’s been an absolute joy watching Shoto grow into a badass with a heart of gold who is loved by his family and friends and learned to do the same for them. I really don't have much to say beside enjoying this character arc of his accomplish

His parents are there, I would also be worried af (in fact I am)

He's reaching Midoriya's level, he's beyond Endeavor's potential and didn't fall into morally bad stuff to reach that. He's still had a few bumps along the road in term of morality but nowhere near Endeavor's level. And it was in middle school which can be rough for a lot of people

ANYWAY finishing AFO now is prone to bring a lot of good

Because he STRONK without an OP quirk stacking thing and you were so convinced of your superiority when it comes to blood lineage and quirks that you overlooked him and he's in fact leaps and bounds above you

You're like Katchan when he considered Midoriya to be below him but Izuku kept keeping up and showing him how much better he was at being a hero

Hi everyone! It's Vi ✨ Today I decided to write something about our crusty boy, he needs to be loved ❤️ I hope you enjoy! (Sorry if there are any grammatical mistakes, english is not my first language 🙏🏻)

Warnings: mention of blood but fluff anyway

All character reservations to Horikoshi

While the league of villains' location was still unknown, Tomura could walk around the neighborhood wearing a hoodie to hyde his face just in case someone recognised him. He wasn't a morning person so usually all his scapes from the hideout were at night, probably to get coffee or some snacks as an excuse to get away from the others.

On his way to the convince store, he saw a cute kitten in the middle of the street. It looked a little lost and terrified of its surroundings but Shigaraki paid no attention and kept walking. That was until he heard a car speeding towards the cat and, without thinking, he ran across the street to grabbed it and pushed both himself and the animal to the sidewalk. The car stopped a few meters away from them and the driver got out of vehicle to check if everything was ok. Unfortunately for him, Tomura is not one to forgive so, in the blink of an eye, he decayed the guy and left with the kitten. The little thing seem to appreciate his gesture as it started to rub its head on him. That's when the villain realised it had a collar with a telephone number. He contemplated for many minutes if he should gave the cat back to its owner or take it with him. However, he couldn't go back to the league with a kitten, they would saw him as someone weak so he surprisingly opted for calling the owner.

It was 11 PM and they probably won't pick up but he gave it a try anyways. At the second tone, a girly voice sound from the other side of the line and Shigaraki just froze on the spot. He was not expecting for them to respond and even worst, for it to be a girl.

"Hi, is someone there?" The angelic voice said and Tomura realised he should say something before she hang up "Hey I - I found your cat on the street and it was almost hit by a car..." "Omg! Noooooo, did something happened to him?! Please tell me he is okay!" "Yeah...he is here with me, may you pick him up? I'm in front of the convince store" "Yes!! I'll be right there! Wait for me, don't go please" And their conversation ended

Tomura started to sweat thinking that a woman was coming and he didn't know what to say or how to even talk a female. But then he thought about what would happened if she recognised him, he definitely would've to kill her but all those thoughts were out of the window once he saw her. Oh, how he wasn't prepared for such a sight! A curvy short girl appeared from around the corner and her face lighted up once she saw them. Her h/c hair was a little bit messy and apparently, she was wearing a nightgown under a big jacket that cover most part of it. Tomura brain was malfunctioning at this point and his heart beat so fast he swore it would come out his chest.

"Oh, thanks god Sombra (means shadow in Spanish) it's ok! I've been looking for him all day but couldn't find him anywhere! Your are such a lifesaver! Thank you so much" the pretty girl was almost crying as she grabbed her cat while giving it a few kisses and Shigaraki heart almost skipped a beat at the sight.

"What's your name, mysterious knight in shining armour?" She looked at him with a smile on her face and it took a few seconds for him to respond because of how flustered he was "I'm Tomura" "Nice to meet you, Tomura! I'm y/n" She extended her hand waiting for him to shake hers but before he could reacted, the e/c eyed girl grabbed his hand and shake it enthusiasticly

He was staring at her, waiting for the inevitable moment of her turning to dust. However, it never came as she separated from him and kept talking about something he couldn't catch on.

What had happened? Why didn't she turned into dust like the others? He started to scratch his neck as she turned to look at him worryingly.

"Sorry if I'm overstepping a boundary but your neck is bleeding a little bit, let me..." Y/n didn't finished her sentence as she reached her hand to his neck and suddenly, all scratch marks and blood was gone

"How did you do that?" He asked curiously about what her quirk was and also wondering why someone as sexy as her would get near or even help someone like him " I have a sanation quirk! I can cure from a headache to a missing limb and it also makes my body immune to some attacks. Cool, isn't it?" She wink at him and the air left his lungs for a moment. God, was she beautiful! "Yeah, it's a pretty cool quirk"

"Well, it's getting late so I probably should be going" Oh no, it's the first time he found someone who he couldn't turned into dust and also the first girl to look at him and not be disgust and she was already leaving. Tomura thought this was some kind of sick joke fate played with him where it would showed him the best piece of god's creation and then, take it away from him. Because freaks like him never get the girl even if they are willing to burn the whole world for them. But sometimes, fate plays with very interesting cards and makes unexpected happen

"Hey I'm... After all you've done for Sombra the least I could do is invite you to lunch sometime! Maybe somewhere quite where we could talk...What do you say?" She said as her cheeks turned red and she avoid looking at him

Shigaraki was not expecting her to invite him to hang out but he wouldn't complained. He felt flustered that a cute girl such as her wanted to go out with him. He couldn't believed his luck! He actually considered this being a dream and he didn't want to wake up anytime soon

"Yes, I would like that" he tried to smile as her eyes shined with excitement "Great! I'll give you my number so we can communicate and see when or where we could go!" If this wasn't the best day of his entire life, when y/n kissed his cheek as a goodbye, it definitely was!

Let's just say that Tomura came back to the hideout with more than a few snacks

Cute girl: Hiii Tomura!

Cute girl: Yes we did! He is already sleeping.

Cute girl: Too much adventure for him 😜

Him: It's ok, he was too cute to ignore

Cute girl: hahaha yeah! He is the cutest

("You are the cutest" He wanted to say but thought it was too early for that)

Cute girl: *picture attached* ( y/n with Sombra on bed)

Cute girl: Ready for bed! Hope u have a good night sleep! See you soon, Tomura 😘

(Oh, his soul left his body after that.

He probably won't admit that he watched that photo every night before bed. He should buy a treat to that cat when he sees it again)

your last meta abt enji is very interesting and nuanced. i think its the closest one to what hori is trying to say that ive ever read. im one of those ppl that can relate to touya and dabis anger so i dont relate to whats going on with endeavor. like in the beginning his atonement felt to me like humiliating shoutos, reis and eventually dabis characters, and i still cant find myself caring for enji. but tbh so far theres no malice in the way hori writes it so lets see where it goes.

I just think there's a lot of resistance to the idea Touya might love/want his father. It's definitely not the... idea we had years back. The Dabi reveal(s) threw a lot of fanon out the window as to Touya's backstory and motivations and I think a lot of people have trouble moving past that too because it also means looking at Enji a little more.

But also, and I want to be clear - the vast majority of people opposed to Enjidemption and anything that goes with it are people who are abuse victims. That's why I respect that so many people are upset by this narrative. It upset me too. I have a very complex relationship with my own folks, and come from a culture with an enormous amount of mandated familial closeness (divine-ordered) and guilt/shame if you don't follow through on it, so I get the emphasis on ties with your parents being important no matter what that certain cultures like to impose. I understand wishing, wanting, some reassurance that our reactions to our abusers are fine - that we don't need to allow them back into our lives if we so choose.

But I also think it's important to note that the Todoroki family is complex! Not everyone has the same reaction to the abuse! I'm pretty sure if Natsuo hadn't been pressured by Fuyumi he might have cut off Enji completely!

Victims do not all think the same (which MHA does do well in showing), do not all want the same things, do not all have the same feelings in regards to their abusers. It kind of hurts when I see people take an extremely severe stance on this because as much as I can hate Endeavor-defending, a lot of time when it turns to criticizing Horikoshi's choices, it skews or nears hating on victims who choose to have contact with their abusers or complicated relationships with them despite admitting to the abuse. Or to those who, despite everything, still feel some love for their abusers (aware we are, that the love we get back is a conditional mimicry of the love we wanted). It goes into victim-blaming; "if you were strong and correct you'd cut contact and condemn them." or "if you really genuinely were abused you wouldn't still be there".

Again, I acknowledge that those of us who don't personally favor reconciling with abusive family have the short end of the stick when it comes to societal views. And there's nuance; some of us love our parents but cannot have them in our lives.

Abuse is complicated! Trauma makes for irrationality and inconsistency in thoughts and feelings, heck, just mere human existence does that too!

But yes, I don't think it's malicious on Horikoshi's part or him "misunderstanding" abuse as I've seen said for years on here. That charge never sat right with me given the consistent theme of child abuse, especially the focus on over-bearing patriarchal figures throughout this work and in Horikoshi's other works, I think we should also acknowledge all of that is coming not from Horikoshi misunderstanding abuse, but forming his own interpretation through likely his own experiences of it.

So, yeah. Shit's complicated and didn't go the way many of us hoped - but we can still sympathize with the anger at being rejected and discarded by a love one, even if we won't like the ending to this story.

Edit: I wrote this a few years back, but there's no shame in dropping BNHA if the Todoroki narrative and likely resolution are too triggering to you as a victim of child abuse or survivor of sexual assault. Take care of yourselves first.
