Gen Fic Recs
Here are some of my fave gen fics for mostly comics. Please give them some love, as gen fics are routinely underlooked. <3
Rex Racer on the Final Turn by GrayJay - X-Men (Comics) - A epistolary fic based on 616 canon, focusing on the Summers brothers. It's very long and detailed and fits neatly into canon while updating to modern tech. I cannot emphasize enough how much I love this one.
You're the Comeback Kid by ryoukootonashi - DCU (Comics) - Roxy Leech + Kon, about Roxy reacting to Kon's death. A nice focus into a relationship DC has neglected for years.
Sure on this shining night by mediant - DCU (Comics) - Lots of good stuff from the Superfam Secret Santa, but this one sticks out for digging into Kryptonian customs. I just adore it.
a window opens up (someone calls your name) by sheikahs - DCU (Comics) - A post-Mercury Falling Thad redemption. For those of you who know, I don't think I need to say more. But I just loved the premise, and it was so, so good.
The Irredeemable Beast by OhMyStarsAndGarters - X-Men (Comics) - A fic which reconciles Hank McCoy's previous characterization with all the stuff that's happened in recent years. If you liked Hank McCoy and want a good story following modern comics, this is for you. It's still a WIP, but I've been loving it.
how big, how blue, how beautiful by merils - DCU (Comics) - Friend fic <3 but also listen to Rimi, Ph.D. in Kon about his trauma and enjoy the Clark + Kon dynamic. No one gets Clark + Kon like Rimi.
Family Ties by SolidCoffee - TMNT - Another friend fic, but Raph as a dad with family drama. It's so much fun and complex, and I love Jamie's attention to detail.
PLUS a self-plug
Right to Remain Silent - DCU (Comics) - Focuses on an outsider POV of what happens after Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van send their son away.

Note
001 for both mckirk and spones please!
This is gonna be long :D I'm gonna have to use read more
001 | send me a ship and I will tell you: mckirk
when I started shipping it if I did: so when the lockdown in 2020 started, I had nothing to do and just watched stuff. I have this favourite dubber and I was looking at the list of stuff he dubbed, and saw Star Trek AOS on that list. This guy is the voice of 2000s Alan Rickman, Tom Hanks, Tony Stark, he also apparently dubbed Garak in that one Star Trek series, and so seeing the reboot films on the list and his name next to McCoy, I was like, gotta check how he sounds. The fact that Kirk was also dubbed by a guy I generally like was a plus. (funnily enough Captain America/Iron Man and Kirk/McCoy are dubbed by the same guys here, which is funny to me). So I checked youtube and the scene I saw was the scene in Beyond where Kirk and McCoy are alone and are having a drink. And that scene did something to my brain, and I was like this is the dynamic I want, I wanna read fics, so before that I had to watch the films. So I watched AOS, basically through McCoy (Kirk/McCoy) lenses and started to read fics. Three weeks later, I decided to watch TOS because a lot of the fics referenced Kirk's backstory, so I wanted to know about it. The three weeks reading fics and looking through livejournal, kind of made me think that McCoy wasn't really an important character in TOS and that AOS made up the mckirk relationship (such a lie), so when I started watching TOS, I only planned to watch episodes heavy on McCoy. Which like... were most of them at the beginning lol I kinda decided not to trust the fandom after like three episodes or something. I binged the three seasons of TOS in like three weeks. I've had a hard time seeing tos!Kirk with men for a long time (I've had a complicated "relationship" with tos!Kirk for so long), so my interest in tos!mckirk was primarily as a platonic relationship [but it was always my fave relationship, I liked it even more than spones, actually] (but romantic in aos), but I started to insert Kirk into my spones fics, wrote a part from his POV, and then one day I just woke up and decided to write a tos!mckirk fic (it was actually because I started to read aos fics again, getting back into aos!mckirk, but... the tos version has been calling me) and just embraced the romantic (and sexual lol) aspect of their relationship.
my thoughts: I love their friendship so much. It's very important to me. I like that McCoy knows what to say to pull Kirk back on the right path, I like that Kirk can be vulnerable around McCoy. In AOS I like that McCoy is the only one Kirk shares stuff with about his mother and his insecurities (in Beyond it looked like he never even allowed the other crew to acknowledge his birthday... until McCoy finally decided to give him a party, after 5 years on the Enterprise...)
What makes me happy about them: we see both of them the most at ease around each other. They can forget who they are around each other, for a moment, at least. McCoy gives Kirk some of his most brightest smiles; McCoy can make Kirk genuinely laugh. Kirk needs him. badly.
What makes me sad about them: I eat angst for breakfast, so uhm...
things done in fanfic that annoys me: the lack of their friendship even in gen fics T_T (we all know what annoys me in aos fic, we don't need a rehash)
things I look for in fanfic: having more fics would be fun lol You know, just a genuine intimacy they show in the the show. Jim's sense of duty being the cause of angst.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:  McCoy with Spock (I do like the idea of mckirk to spones after the movie era, more or less). tos movie era Kirk? Actually, no one.
My happily ever after for them: buying a cabin in the mountains and getting two dogs (one big and one small) post TUC (then we can stop time lol or not...)
who is the big spoon/little spoon: idk haven't thought about their sleeping position. It would probably change based on what kind of story I'd wanna tell
what is their favorite non-sexual activity: .... you know, they're happy when they find the time to have sex...
spones under the cut
001 | send me a ship and I will tell you: spones
when I started shipping it if I did: so above I said that I started to watch TOS because of mckirk, right? Mainly because of The Conscience of the King and Tarsus IV, right? Well... I finished that episode shipping spones LMAO It really was quite quick for me.
my thoughts: the most engaging dynamic in TOS imho
What makes me happy about them: The loyalty, the trust. They were in each other's lives for 100 years. 100 years. That they're more similar than different. That they actually understand each other, but would never admit it. "I don't think I could stand to lose you again." < what is that? so real to have McCoy say that
What makes me sad about them: that they would leave the other one behind and die if it meant to save Kirk (this isn't meant negatively, I'm not really explicit about it or talk about it, but my spones know that Kirk's life is a priority, sometimes even just to show that no, we're not emotionally compromised, we know what our duty is kinda way. I just think it'd be great to explore that in a fic)
things done in fanfic that annoys me: uhm (I'm speaking in general, it is just my opinion based on my taste; I believe that everyone should write what makes them happy, we can't ever please every single person) McCoy using hobgoblin, elf, jackrabbit (the last two are terms that Kirk used to make Spock angry) as a form of affection/endearment, or at all tbh. McCoy being insecure because of Kirk. (give me Spock being insecure because of McCoy-Kirk friendship) Some people feeling guilty about writing spones and therefore still making kirk-spock have the specialest bond *rolls eyes* I just don't get the need to quantify relationships, I guess. Any kind of pet names.
things I look for in fanfic: balanced relationship, mature arguments that don't rely on pettiness, trying to combine the different world views, not needing to express love in a traditional way, but a way that works for the two of them and their two differing cultures.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: McCoy with Kirk, obviously. Spock with Chapel or T'Pring (even during the movie era, yes).
My happily ever after for them: 100 years. What more do you want? LOL My personal hc is that when McCoy dies, and Spock goes to Romulus, McCoy's spirit is always there because a part of his soul stayed inside Spock's katra. So Spock is just haunted by McCoy's spirit until he dies on New Vulcan, and then they're put into the katra stone. Together forever.
who is the big spoon/little spoon: I imagine them more as Spock sleeping on his back and McCoy's head on his arm/chest.
what is their favorite non-sexual activity: banter (they especially enjoy if it makes Kirk exasperated)

The Aftermath
Part 2 of The Mission NOTE: Again, this is based on the oc that @v-cain Writes about. This is part 2, and I tried to make it a similar ending to the 1st HTTYD movie. So, Hopefully, you like it!
Fandom: X-men
Warnings: Swearing (probably), fighting, hurt/comfort, fire, let me know if there's more.
Pairings: (All Platonic) Logan Howlett x gn!teen!reader, Hank McCoy x gn!teen!reader, Scott Summers x gn!teen!reader, Kurt Wagner x gn!teen!reader, Jean Grey x gn!teen!reader, Jubilation Lee x gn!teen!reader, Charles Xavier x gn!teen!reader, Erik Lenhsherr x gn!teen!reader
Y/n POV
Everything hurts, that's what I notice first. Slowly I try to open my eyes. Everything blurry, and too bright. I shift in a white bed, with sheets that feel like paper. I realize that I feel heavy. white wraps around my body, some stained red others crisp and pure. I manage to get myself upright, only then getting my bearings. I'm back at the academy, In the sterile infirmary. I look to my side and notice that Logan Has scrunched himself into those tiny uncomfortable hospital chars, and fallen asleep. Without waking him, I Manage to Make my way out of the room, I decided that rest is what he needed. when he wakes up i can let him know I'm ok...
Logans POV
Goddamn, these hospital chairs. I keep telling Xavier, that we need new chairs. since there's always someone in the infirmary for one thing or another. As I'm trying to work out the knot in my shoulder I look at the bed and notice that their bed is empty...
Panic sets in as I hear rustling in the hall. I franticly make my way out and see Y/N quietly talking to a nurse,
"the hell are you doing out of bed?!" I ask with a slight tinge of panic peaking through
"i wanted to talk to the nurse, and you were sleeping." Y/N quietly says looking down.
"it's fine, you scared me is all..."
"me? i scared logan, THE wolverine?" they tease
"ok no you know what, go back to bed" i say trying to not let the smile making its way on my face too visible.
note: i will eventually make a part three....

Contender
Another old Cherik oneshot, reimagining certain things from First Class…! :')
Fic: "Contender" [FFN] [AO3]
Pairings/Characters: Charles Xavier/Erik Lehnsherr, with Moira MacTaggert & a cameo from Hank McCoy, as well of mentions Raven Darkhölme, Sean Cassidy, & Alex Summers
Rating: T
Words: ~3,050
Additional info: romance, slash, angst, fluff, AU fic, 3rd person POV
Summary: They had enough on their plate as it was. The fate of the world. The future of the young mutants looking to them for guidance. Still, Charles and Erik were two people, two evenly matched souls, and even Charles doubted they could set aside their magnetism forever.
"And you fight like a little contender A broken heart you can never surrender A thousand kisses, return to sender
('Cuz you're never gonna beat me)"
—Fenech-Soler, "Contender"
"Good night, Charles," Moira said quietly as they wrapped up their little nightcap.
Charles nodded to her and leaned back in the recliner in the sitting room. His eyes were tired. He shouldn't have stayed up so late speaking with her about their upcoming mission. Stress was never a good thing before bed.
He stared up at the ceiling, trying to make his mind blank when someone's thoughts caught his attention as blaringly as an air horn. Charles hated that; when he was tired, he couldn't always block out the noise of the minds around him, and Raven's was as loud as ever.
She wasn't in any danger, but she… Charles sat up, alert. What was she doing in Erik's room? This is…awkward, the telepath thought as he watched through Raven's eyes. Those two were speaking, but Charles felt it wrong of him to intrude so completely on their conversation. Though he was curious as to why Raven looked at Erik with a hint of…longing…?
Charles frowned. Hadn't Raven and Hank been sharing something special? Besides, Charles had the feeling that Erik didn't like women.
He blinked. Young women, he mentally corrected, his face unreasonably warm.
His mind's eye watched Erik near Raven regardless, and Charles didn't know how to feel when Erik pressed his lips against her blue ones. All he knew was that he didn't like it, that he had to get out of Raven's head.
Hormone-driven bastard, Charles groused to himself as the professor headed to his own room for the night. He'd managed to leave Raven as she'd exited Erik's room. But there'd been no reason for her to be there to begin with. More so, Erik shouldn't've touched the young woman Charles had regarded as his younger sister all these years. Yes…Erik shouldn't've enticed Raven. That was wrong of him.
      But…Charles wasn't quite sure why.
Over the next few days, Charles stayed out of Raven's and Erik's minds, but he didn't get the feeling that the two had continued anything past that night.
Charles had all but settled on the idea that Raven might have thrown herself at Erik at the time, and he felt slightly better with that thought in mind. After all, those two wouldn't work together, rather like Moira and Charles himself. Moira was sweet and kind, but her relationship with Charles was only friendly, occasionally business, but only friendly. Charles didn't have much of anyone in mind at the moment, even. And why should he? They had a job to do…and a chance to prove themselves as mutants, as humans.
"You're going to have premature wrinkles," a smooth voice said beside Charles.
The telepath jumped a bit and turned to see Erik's amused expression. "May I help you, Erik?"
Erik watched Charles, neither of them turning back to look at the green hillside or at the satellite that Erik had managed to control a while ago. He leaned both hands on the balcony's stone railing and deeply inhaled. "No, I was going to ask if I could help you."
      "I'm fine."
"Bullshit, Charles." Erik leaned on his fist and continued to stare at his friend. "I can read you like an open book."
Charles' shoulders slackened and he half grinned. "You're quite frank."
"I hate people who toe around topics. They annoy me."
      "Do I annoy you then?"
      Erik held no hesitation: "Never."
Charles looked away then and cleared his throat. "I'm just thinking about our plans. I mean, going off to prevent World War Three…"
"You said it yourself: This is good we're doing. Somebody has to do it, Charles."
      "…"
"You're wondering a little why that somebody has to be us."
      "…perhaps."
Erik shook his head and put an arm around Charles' shoulders. "So even little Charlie worries."
"Don't call me that. And I'm not worrying."
"You must be. Otherwise you never would've sniped at me just now." Erik snickered when Charles failed to make a retort; all right, Erik had won that one. "Charles, you were the one telling me that we'll be able to fight. You were the one that wanted to train. You were the one that supplied the spacious mansion. Maybe you ought to cut yourself some slack."
"As you did a few nights ago?" Charles murmured under his breath.
      "What did you say?"
      The professor sighed. "It's nothing."
"No, I heard you mutter something about 'a few nights ago.' What do you mean?"
"As I said, it's nothing," the telepath stubbornly answered, turning away from Erik.
"Don't walk away from me," the taller man griped, catching up to Charles easily with his long legs. "Charles, I mean it. What are you talking about, 'a few nights ago'?"
Erik's incessant needling made Charles burst. "You, Raven, that—that—"
Realization dawned on the metal magician's face. "That was nothing, Charles."
"So now you get to say 'nothing'?" Charles felt bad, turning the tables like this. He disliked conflict of any sort, but sometimes…Erik got under his skin.
Erik licked his lips while carefully choosing his reply. "It…was a little schoolgirl crush, I'd say."
      "You kissed her."
Erik paused, halting Charles with a hand on his arm. "How do you know?"
Charles' face grew warm. "Raven, she—her mind unconsciously called out to me, so I saw much of what happened, but I wasn't eavesdropping, I swear."
His friend took a few deep breaths and nodded. "Good. But just understand that there's nothing between us."
      "All right, all right."
"As long as you know that…" Erik pursed his lips, walking slightly closer to Charles. He let a quiet moment pass between them. "Mind finishing our walk around your estate?"
      "I'd enjoy that, yes."
That's what it was. Any moment they were in the same room, regardless of the others being there as well, it turned to all hints and double entendres. It was amusing, infuriating, fun, horrible, lovely, and insane all at once. It got to the point where Charles' body automatically reacted whenever he and Erik crossed paths, oftentimes forcing an uncharacteristic and healthy flush to bloom across Charles' young face.
But Erik… Charles inwardly groaned. The metal magician probably thought his reddening was, ugh, cute.
It didn't help that Charles' dreams became plagued by his dangerous thoughts. He'd fall asleep, thinking of Erik being glad at having cleared up the Raven misunderstanding, and then Charles' mind would wander to the night he'd seen through Raven's eyes, but Erik wasn't coming at her anymore. No, instead this Erik recognized his companion was Charles and came at him with a hungry look in his eyes, crashing their mouths together and forgetting everything else around them, while being thankful for the sturdy, soundproof walls of the Xavier mansion.
When these dreams happened, Charles would wake up at some point with a jolt, sweaty and shaking. And hating that he'd woken up.
But, as the time drew near for their team to leave, Charles considered many things, chiefly Erik's quest for Sebastian Shaw's blood. Erik felt he needed to exact revenge, and Charles worried that Erik's desire for vengeance got in the way of their friendship alone. It would be worse if it got in the way of their awkward, pseudo…whatever this was.
Erik wouldn't stop watching him during dinner that night, though. Charles politely ignored him, but even the others started to take notice. Eventually, the professor excused himself early from the table and retreated to his room.
After twenty or so minutes, Erik, too, slipped inside, not bothering to knock. He shut the door behind him—a little harder than needed and all the warning Charles received of his arrival—and found Charles sitting at his desk.
      Charles groaned. "Erik, just—"
"No, I won't. I told you I hate people who toe around topics, and I hate myself for beating around the bush and letting you let me fall into this game of cat-and-canary."
"You said I'd never annoy you," the smaller man quipped.
"Yes, but I didn't say you didn't drive me insane." Erik took a step further into the room. "Don't shut me out, friend."
Charles paused. "That's the best title to have, though, isn't it? 'Friend'?"
Erik shook with quiet anger. Charles finally locked eyes with him and didn't break his gaze until he saw, out of the corner of his eye, his metal possessions levitating above their resting places.
      "Erik," Charles warned.
"Sorry," the metal magician breathed, releasing the items from his power. "Sorry. I just…"
The telepath stood and hesitated to move closer. If they got too close, there would be no telling what would happen. "It's all right."
Erik took a breath and rubbed a hand over his face. "You're unique, Charles."
"You are, too. We're both mutants with powers meant only for us."
"I meant that only you get under my skin sometimes."
Charles swallowed past the lump in his throat. Funny how that same thought had occurred to him about Erik… "I suppose that's just what we do to each other," he said, hating that his voice was breathy and not under his control.
Erik gazed at him and observed him a minute longer. He strode over to Charles, who stood rooted to the spot, and lightly placed a hand on the back of Charles' neck. He bent down some to lean his forehead against the telepath's. "I don't think that's the only thing we do to each other," Erik whispered, a sound like a shout in Charles' too-quiet room.
Charles swore he meant to back away, but instead he found his mouth against Erik's, just like in his dreams. Despite his knowledge of the brain and feelings and perception, Charles still managed to be surprised at how much better the real thing tasted, was. Erik appeared smooth, looked rough when using his powers, but he was the fragile one taking the telepath in his arms. Surely his experiences had taught him to treasure the good things he had in his life.
The professor hoped he would be treasured, too. And when Erik gave him a nod to poke around in his head, Charles found…he already was.
The next few mornings and nights were too short, truth be told. Charles rather liked waking up with a warm person against his back or chest, and it was better that it was Erik. Not only had he liked him more than anyone else he'd ever met, but Charles just trusted Erik. The younger mutants were still a tad wary of him because of his cold demeanor, but Charles found it wasn't that he trusted Erik because he could root around in his mind. He trusted Erik because he didn't have to root around in his mind. It was a delightful, new experience, for Charles—honestly—hadn't ever even given Raven that much credit.
Of course, this new feeling had little chance to grow, as, the next thing Charles knew, he and everyone else were sporting new suits made by Hank. He admired Erik's profile with the yellow and the blue.
"Even a waif like you makes this look good," Erik intoned quietly to him as they inspected the jet Hank had built.
Charles snorted and rolled his eyes—a habit he appeared to have picked up from Erik—and waited for takeoff. Once they were airborne and speeding off to their destination, they reviewed how they were going to tackle keeping the Caspartina from starting a fresh war between the United States and the Soviet Union.
"We'll need you to handle Shaw's sub," Charles told Eric.
Erik's eyes widened. "Something that big…? Charles, that satellite was one thing, but—"
Charles shook his head. "You're our only chance. Once we find it…" He hesitated. How could they find something under water?
"We'd need sonar," Moira said from her station up front near the newly furry-and-blue Hank.
It clicked in both Charles' and Erik's mind. The team charged Sean with using his Banshee sound waves to dive and locate Shaw. "After that, we'll leave it up to Erik," Charles stated. He and Sean left their seats and, when the chance was right, Sean exited the jet for the water. Charles stood near the opening, bent over to try to follow Sean a little with his eyes before Hank closed the jet back up.
I'm appreciating the view, Charles heard in his mind. He glimpsed behind him to see Erik with an insufferable smirk on his face.
Focus on our plan, please, Erik, the professor pushed with an audible sigh of exasperation.
They circled in the jet a few times, waiting for Sean to contact Charles. The telepath focused on Sean's mind, and soon enough Sean gave them the okay for Erik to make his move. Again, Hank lowered the jet, but he and Moira released the wheels this time. Erik grasped onto one leg of the craft with one arm. How's that for focus? the metal magician spoke to Charles mentally.
"Just do it like last time, with the satellite," Charles encouraged. "You can do it, Erik, I know you can."
Erik said nothing but held his free hand out, zeroing in on the hunk of metal deep below the ocean's surface. He gave it a gentle tug and then locked on his powers. Sweat broke out on his brow as the jet circled and slowed with the weight of the object in Erik's pull.
"Be careful!" Charles yelled as Erik partially buckled against the wheel leg.
"I'm being careful!" Erik spat back, trying not to break his concentration. He grunted under the stress, his temple pulsing painfully as the submarine rose out of the water, rivulets cascading off its sides. He chanced a breath when he saw Caspartina on the side. But that breath slackened his grip on the jet's leg, and he stumbled to regain his composure.
"Erik!" Charles shouted. His heart stopped when Erik slipped around the leg. Charles scrambled to the opening, ignoring Raven's and Moira's shouts at him to stay back. He held his arm out. "Erik, grab my hand!"
Erik shook his head, but he had no choice as they came under fire from Riptide's hurricanes. Moira forced the jet's legs up, and Charles caught Erik just in time to avoid the door crushing him.
"Hang on!" Hank bellowed. But that was meaningless to say, as the hurricanes brought both their jet and Shaw's boat down, for Erik had lost his control of the ship. Both vehicles went hurtling towards the shore, and the jet's passengers were tugged and thrown around like rag dolls.
"Charles!" Erik panicked, catching the professor and using his powers to pin Charles to the floor, acting as the smaller man's shield.
The crash was expected but rougher than originally thought. Once things had settled, Charles dared to move, nudging Erik above him. "Th…thank you…Erik."
Erik nodded. "Mm." He winced and blinked the stars from his eyes.
"I suppose we're even now—I saved your life, and now you've saved mine."
The metal magician frowned and barely brushed his lips against his. "Nein. I'd risk my life for you, Charles."
Charles' face warmed, and he was at a loss for words as they checked on everyone else. Seeing as there were no major injuries, Banshee, Havok, Mystique, and Beast left to battle Shaw's cronies outside.
"Time to find Shaw," Erik said with a kind of dark glee in his tone.
"Don't kill him," Charles reminded his friend.
Erik grinned, and it truly looked as though he might break out laughing at some very funny joke Charles had said. But there was no joking here. "Only since you asked so nicely, I'll consider it." And he headed outside to the sub.
"Erik. Erik! Erik, I mean it!" Charles panted, his worry resurfacing as he watched Erik's fading form. He maintained a mental connection with the other mutant until Erik reached the main yet hidden belly of the boat.
That was when panic set in.
      "It's been ten minutes."
Moira cursed under her breath as she tried fixing their communication lines. "Charles, please stop pacing!"
The telepath bit his bottom lip, brushing a lock of his dark hair out of his eyes. "I can't. I can't penetrate Shaw's sanctuary… We have no idea what's happening in there right now!" Charles exploded, throwing his arms up in the air whilst facing the CIA agent.
"And pacing won't fix anything," Moira pointed out curtly.
"… It helps my mental state."
Moira sighed. "Just breathe. Erik will be all right. He's been on his own for a long time, hasn't he?"
Charles frowned, as she had a point.
Moira softened her expression. "You're worried since this is the first time he's ever found someone to trust…and he could stop trusting you at any point."
      "Perhaps."
"Come on, Charles. Erik won't run away from your bond." She smiled.
Charles nodded. "I'd hope not—wait! Erik, are you there?!" He touched his fingers to his temple and found Erik's presence. Erik, where are you?
Can't—ungh—chat right now, Charles! Erik telepathically bellowed.
Well, whatever it is you're doing, keep it up! I can hear you again.
      Yes, well, isn't that lovely?
      Charles watched the sub hopefully.
      "He's fine, isn't he?"
Charles glanced over his shoulder at Moira. "Oh. I…don't really know. But I've contacted him again!" he said, somewhat cheerfully.
Moira paused in her activities. "You're not going to see much from here, Charles."
      "What?"
Moira waved at him in a shooing motion. "Go. See if you can help him. …go after him."
Charles blushed and fumbled his words. "But I— We need to—"
"I can take care of things here," she said. She looked up at the professor. "But you need to go after him. You can't let him go. He's the only one that brings out the rest of your emotions, Charles. That's a good thing."
The look in her eyes was so earnest and commanding that Charles couldn't say no. He gave her a thankful nod and faced the opening. It was bright outside and even brighter when he went to chase after the one thing—person—he wanted to protect more than anything else on this dangerous first…and maybe last…mission.
He'd just gotten him. He wasn't about to set him free.
I LOVE the song "Contender" by Fenech-Soler. It's full of passion and the fieriness that Cherik possesses. I know this was a rather fast-paced story and I didn't end it at the end of the movie, but this is fanfic. ;] Also, I actually tried giving them more time together at the Xavier estate—in the movie, they were only training for about a week?! :+
Thanks for reading, and feel free to leave an anon/unsigned review via the FFN link or comment via the AO3 link at the top of the post, especially if you enjoyed this!

2022 note: THIS. So, according to my files, when I wrote my deluge of Cherik fics in 2011, I either wrote them all in a day or edited all of them in a day? And tbqh, knowing me, both options are V LIKELY. But this one, my longest one from that time, needed some more serious revisions compared to my others (formatting, some grammatical stuff, switching a handful of Americanisms to Britishisms when coming outta Charles' mouth, updating some words/phrases to better fall in line with my writing still/what I know I truly intended with this fic and can now pull off, etc). Still, my heart. I do enjoy leaving this named after the song that inspired it, but if I had to rename it, I'd prolly go with "Under His Skin" today, considering the effect these two have on each other. :3c

5 + 1 Fic Friday: Found Family
Some fics that feature people finding family outside (sometimes in addition to) their blood relationships. Some feel good stuff so I can pretend to end March on a positive note.
The Things He Learned (AO3) - This is from the POV of Grunt (from the Mass Effect video games). Grunt may have been produced by science to be “pure Krogan”, but that doesn’t mean he can’t find a family in the various aliens Normandy crew. Also, if it matters to you this ME fic’s Shepard is female and paired with Garrus.
Mismatched (AO3) (FF) - Zuko (from Avatar:The Last Airbender) takes in an orphaned child while on his quest to capture the Avatar. It helps put his own childhood in perspective.
Run In the Family (AO3) - Foster kid Alex Summers meets Hank McCoy’s, his crush, very large family. It ends with a surprise for almost everyone involved (but mostly for Alex).
And by god he was good (AO3) - Daredevil and company mourn the loss of Spiderman, but they also take Miles under their wings.
Families of Choice (AO3) - Alec is kicked out of the Clave and has to make a new life for himself. His siblings stick by him though and his family gets bigger along the way.
Bonus: More to Being a Father Than Having a Kid (AO3) - An entire series of Batfam stuff. It starts off with Slade Wilson having a bigger interest in who the Arkham Knight really is and ends up a huge extended family that has had therapy.

Two years after the events at Cape Citadel, things appear to have settled down slightly, but with the current President's time almost over, a new Presidential race beckons. The Mutant Registration Act, the perennial project of Senator Robert Kelly and various other factions, is back up again in a supposedly kinder and gentler version. Magneto has not been sighted, but remains at large.
An alliance of sorts exists between the Hellfire Club and the X-Men, spurred in part by an remarkably ambitious vision to create a mutant community inside America's greatest city, but it is a fragile one, susceptible to betrayal. Dark powers lurk around the X-Men, both evil mutants and far more mysterious eldritch foes- just as emissaries from unfathomably far reaches of space begin taking an interest in them.
Being a mutant- not easy. Doesn't seem to be getting easier, either ...

The Mission
NOTE: ok so this is based on the oc that @v-cain Writes about. I love their toothless mutant-inspired reader fics and had an idea of one for one and thought i'd give it a shot.
Edit: I'm not adding more to it because i have writers block now but i hope you enjoy this drabble <3
Fandom: X-men
Warnings: Swearing (probably), fighting, hurt/comfort, fire, let me know if there's more.
Pairings: (All Platonic) Logan Howlett x gn!teen!reader, Hank McCoy x gn!teen!reader, Scott Summers x gn!teen!reader, Kurt Wagner x gn!teen!reader, Jean Grey x gn!teen!reader, Jubilation Lee x gn!teen!reader, Charles Xavier x gn!teen!reader, Erik Lenhsherr x gn!teen!reader
Finally my first mission, I'm still not where the professor would have liked for regular missions but Apocalypse isn't our regular villain. To defeat him we needed everyone, and I was one of the only people on the team who could come at him from the air. When we left we were too sure of ourselves, to cocky.
Well not anymore, the fight is raging around me, and I find myself on the ground. rocks digging into my back. I look around and there are bodies littered everywhere. Both sides of this war obviously having taken hits.
As I'm trying to get up, I let out a hiss of pain, there's a long deep gash down my ribs.
As i'm there assessing the wound i hear a voice, "Stay Down, y/n"
"Professor?"
"yes, stay down. we can handle it.."
before he can convince me I look over and see Logan rushing Apocalypse before he's caught and thrown. I watch as I see his body crumple to the ground. the fear and anger is unbridled now, I wasn't gonna let this bastard get to anymore of our people.
Against orders, I rush Apocalypse, just as Logan did, grab him with my claws, and shoot us straight up before anyone can stop us.
"You meek human, you think you can stop me?" he's taunting me, I have to ignore it and just focus on producing my fire breath.
"Was he your friend? Father maybe?" he smirks.
"Ignore him. Focus." i think to myself.
I'm pulled from my concentration as a knife is plunged into mu stomach, i start to falter and we start hurtling towards the ground however at the last moment i send my fire straight to his face.
I drop him, losing blood as i quickly approach the ground.
There’s fires raging everywhere, out of the corner of my eye I see Jean. She’s unconscious, she must have been air support. I dive for her and then everything goes black.
Third POV
Logan’s body crumples against the ground, and y/n immediately gets the advantage on Apocalypse, pulling him upward. Logan’s just getting up in time to see them fly above the clouds.
Everyone is still as they watch the sky. With the enemies slowly dropping.
“They did it…” Charles is looking up in awe and fear.
“What did they do,”
“Logan-”
“No, professor. Tell me what they did. Please.” Logan can feel his anxiety rising.
“They ended it. But not without consequences consequences. ” he said gravely, “they have little strength left.”
Jean immediately shots up to help, but is knocked out by one of the last soldiers still alive. She’s careening to the ground before everyone sees you fly out of the clouds and grab her before you smash into the dirt.
“Kid…” Logan runs over to where you fell. Wings, tail, and body wrapped protectively around Jean, who is unharmed. Jean gets up and is pulled away from you by Scott. You are left there groggy, and barely lucid.
“Kid, what did you do…” Logan’s face is set in fear, anger, and sadness.
“Is everyone ok?” Y/n asks as they breathe shallowly.
“Everyone’s fine.” The professor assures. “You on the other hand are a different story.”
“Kid. Goddamn it. Why did you do that. What did you do.” Logan is moving you of the ground to lean against him now. Their breathing to slow for his liking.
“I k-knew i could d-do it. I had to t-try.”
As he watches he notices the gashes and blood stain their suit.
“You’re fine… you’ll get better.” He’s applying pressure. But the stain is steadily getting larger.
Everyone is to shocked to move, until the professor talks.
"get them to the jet."
