OKAY RANT TIME!
Y'all, I have NEVER recommended such sus stuff, let alone FANFICS, but this one deserves it, okay?
I've been staying up until 4am the past 3 nights in a row to read an ongoing Hazbin Hotel fanfiction with 32 chapters and 145,000 words that I have now finished catching up on. To put it plainly, it is an absolute MASTERPIECE. Somehow, the author has perfectly captured how it would feel to form relationships (both platonic and romantic) with the characters and not make it feel like their personalities were manipulated.
I don't usually like stories that use such sensitive trigger tags, but it was recommended to me by a fellow Vox simp and OH MY GOD, IT'S NOT EVEN JUST THE VOX CONTENT THAT I CARE ABOUT ANYMORE, IT'S LITERALLY EVERYTHING ABOUT IT! THE PLOT IS GENUINELY GOOD, AND I WANT TO SEE HOW IT ENDS!
PLEASE, if you're into sus Vox/Readers, SUPER slow-burn Alastor/Readers, or stories with mild Baxter/Reader content on the side, GO READ The Medusa Complex over on Ao3!
⚠️ WARNING! IT HAS EXTREMELY SENSITIVE TOPICS WITHIN IT, SO READ THE DAMN AO3 TAGS! ⚠️

2023 Walkerverse Fanfiction Awards
Here's my choices for @theladywyn's fanfic awards event. Thank you to everyone who wrote fanfiction this year—I read so many great stories! Special shoutout to both @theladywyn and @walker-extended-universe for carrying the Walker fanfiction community. You guys are phenomenal!
+Favorite Character Centric Fic
Randall's Story by Descended_from_Hufflepuffs (@walker-extended-universe)
The title explains it all. Randall gets the love that he deserves. Honestly, we need more Randall fic.
+Favorite Angst Fic
when your floorboards start to rot, pray there are not bodies buried beneath by @theladywyn
His fist connects with real solid flesh and there’s a familiar surprised cry. Cassie.
A beautiful fic about accepting your past and learning how to be vulnerable. Plus, it really showcases Cordell and Cassie's relationship.
+Favorite AU (completely new setting) fic
Of Love and Honor by Descended_from_Hufflepuffs (@walker-extended-universe)
Cordell is the knight assigned to Princess Emily's personal protection. They were never meant to fall in love, but they do.
This is perfect for anyone who enjoys secret lover fics. For only a little more than a thousand words, it really ropes you into their relationship!
+Favorite AU (divergence from canon event) fic
See No Evil by sakuranomi808
An Alternate Universe story where Cordell doesn't leave for his undercover case with the Rodeo Kings after Emily's death and Liam becomes the District Attorney. Some things stay the same and some things very drastically change.
What can I say? This fic is beautifully written. It's a fascinating exploration into morality vs legality. It's the perfect mix of unsettling and tense and had me on the edge of my seat at times!
+Favorite WIP (a fic not yet finished)
What are the odds? by Descended_from_Hufflepuffs (@walker-extended-universe)
A strange coincidence leads to a mix up that our heroes may never recover from.... Assuming anyone realizes the mistake. Or: in which Cordell dies and Sam gets mistaken as a Texas Ranger.
An intriguing SPN/Walker fic. I would absolutely love to see where this goes. It sets up so much potential for a good emotional hurt/comfort fic!
+Favorite Episode Tag/Missing Scene Fic
To Lead Me Home by sakuranomi808
Timestamp between 3x15 and 3x16. A quiet, emotional moment between brothers when Cordell returns home to the ranch.
A sweet moment between the brothers shows how much their relationship has evolved since the beginning of the show.
+Favorite Sick!Fic
Hold my hair, Wipe my face by slytheringraven (@the-slythering-raven)
Cassie Perez really really should have stayed home today. She even had all her medical leaves intact because she never got sick. Until now, that is..
Such a cute story! This fic just highlights all that I love about Cordell and Cassie.
+Favorite Hurt/Comfort Fic
there's a white flag waiting just to find out what we're made of by @theladywyn
Things go very wrong at the medal ceremony for Cassie and August. 3x14 AU.
This is just *chefs kiss* This fic reminds us all why we hate Kevin Golden and why Cassie rules. As if it couldn't get any better, it also has such cute moments between Cassie and August!
+Favorite Ship Fic
Pounding Headache by Catxx
Trey keeps the fact that he gets migraines from Walker, which is fine until one hits.
Our Neck of the Woods by Descended_from_Hufflepuffs (@walker-extended-universe)
Liam convinced Ben to come out to one of the family cabins for a special couples get away. Ben still has his doubts but Liam can be very persuasive.
For those who like cozy, fluffy slash fic, these two are perfect for you!
+Fic You Can't Stop Thinking About
oh the past has no teeth, reaching for something it holds dear by @theladywyn
“I know I taught you better than that, Liam.” Cordell?! It’s been over twenty years since Liam last heard his big brother’s voice and he thinks this is it; he’s really and truly lost all his marbles.
Such an emotional fic! Had a few things gone differently in the show, I feel like this is something that could have happened.
+Funniest Fic
Tree Trouble by @theladywyn
AU. Firefighter!Cordell gets a call from Liam to rescue a cat stuck in a tree. This turns out to be a slight misunderstanding.
I knew right away that this was the funniest fic I've read this year. I absolutely adore the banter between the characters!

omfg dude... i've got two eps left of lucifer s6. but so far i am already absolutely blown away at the writing?? maze and eve's relationship stuff and ella dealing with finally realising the truth?? RORY— can't wait to see how that plot line ends. amenadiel dealing with institutional racism as a cop is the most impactful arc to me rn, it's kinda strange that it took them this long to examine the issue again, but i'm glad that they pointed out so many levels to the issue when they finally did, and in such simple ways. those episodes were so good on their own didn't even feel like it was 'lucifer' necessarily? had me on the edge of my seat with the stomach sickening suspense of reiben fucking shit up ugh
tbh you're so damn right??????
this entire season was literally so goddamn satisfying in every sense of the word. like shows rarely go this all out for their final seasons and have it all be satisfying nd completely go with the flow of the show all in one go, and the Lucifer team managed to do it in spades.
amenadiel experiencing racial bias - especially within the police force where nobody really likes to bring it up - and the lady who was working with him? the lady cop? hearing her talk about how kids feared her and what she does just because of the uniform she wears because "the uniform took their mother away, or it took their brother away"........that all broke me ngl.
and honestly, i was wondering why they were keeping ella out of the loop for so damn long because she is an integral part and member of lucifer's entire story, and then they have her find out all the major plot points through reading linda's fanfiction first draft of her book 😂😂 it's fucking amazing. and of course they would bring her into everything now during probably the most unexpected arc of the show's whole run, which i find really cool.
and every single fucking character gets their own happy ending/gets what they want in the end.
lucifer finally realizes that he can actually, definitively help people but not by doing what everyone else says that he should do.....but by doing it in his own way.
amenadiel gets to ascend to god's throne like he said he wanted to back in season four/five (i believe???? i know he said he wanted to, i just forgot where lol)
linda and charlie are happier than ever and charlie's wings came in!!!!
maze and eve worked through their relationship and trust issues to finally see the other as they truly were, and are now kicking ass and taking names together.
ella gets to help other girls go into STEM fields and become just like her - an inspiration to their communities - and she's getting closer to dan's friend in the process.
speaking of dan, he finally gets to be in heaven - AS HE FUCKIN SHOULD - and finally, finally gets to be with charlotte.
rory finally understands why lucifer was gone for her whole life, and relinquishes the hatred that she had for him.
and for chloe......despite the hardship that's gonna come with raising rory without telling her why lucifer had left them, she knows that it's for the best cause in this life and the next. and when she finally passes, she gets to be with him for the rest of however long, solving problems as the partners they were born to be.
i've never been this satisfied with a show's series finale because it's just so damn good. everything gets resolved, everyone gets what they want, everyone's satisfied.
this show is a goddamn masterpiece.

Christmas Break - Part 1
Surprise!! After a looong time away Court returns to Everlark fic world with a little holiday treat for everyone  - enjoy! :)
Hi everyone. So 2020 has sucked. For me, the beginning of quarantine was actually a bit of a gift. Being home gave me the gift of time, something I haven’t had much of as my daughters (who were very little when I started writing in this fandom) have gotten older. While I never stopped writing, it was a struggle to find long enough chunks of time to get into a flow. I started writing again with earnest. Not all of it was my fanfiction; some of it was my original work. El keeps me posted on the humbling and kind asks she gets about my writing. I felt bad that despite my increased writing, I still wasn’t ready to update any WIPs. But I did remember a story I had started for the final holiday PiP that I was never able to get past the first page (due to lack of time that year) and to my surprise, it started flowing. I had every intention of finishing it and having El post it as a gift to this fandom. But once my school went “back” in October and hybrid learning started, that was it. My time was gone. And further, my family experienced the very sudden and non-Covid-related death of my aunt. So while I have nearly half of this story written, it’s not done. But it will be, very soon, since it is a one-shot. As with all my stories, it took on a life of its own and it needs more love. So what I have for the readers who have loyally followed me is the first part, the part that involves Christmas. It’s my hope to have a second part posted in a week or two, so that by the time that part posts, a final part is nearly done.
Thank you for your asks and your patience, and thank you to El, one of my favorite people in this world and the best thing my time in this fandom has given me. Thank you for your encouragement. Our friendship means the world to me.
Here’s to a better 2021. Love to you all. Court
Christmas Break
Fuck, not again, Peeta grouses as the opening notes of that insidious Mariah Carey song pipe through the loudspeaker. That’s the third time in the last two hours. He’s all for holiday spirit, but if he never hears this fucking song again it will be too soon.
Leaning his forehead against the cold pane of glass, he peers out of the fourth-story window into the darkened sky. When he had arrived at work a few hours ago, the snow had just been starting to fall; a slow, lazy tumble of flakes. Now it’s coming down in a tumultuous swirl. It figures Panem would finally see a white Christmas his first Christmas Eve on rotation in the emergency room. No doubt the weather is partially to blame for the crush of bodies crowding the waiting room tonight.
Peeta walks away from the window and opens the cabinet where he stashes his Clif bars. The economy-sized box looks suspiciously closer to empty than it did the other day. He’s heard complaints from other doctors and nurses that snacks are pilfered on a regular basis and was warned to label his own boxes. But he had forgone the warnings. If someone needed an energy bar badly enough to steal one, what was the $20 he had spent on them at Costco. He snags one and unwraps it.
He’s just raised it to his mouth when his Apple watch pings and his silenced cell phone pulses insistently against his thigh. Heaving a loud sigh, he sets down the energy bar and withdraws the phone from his pocket.
“Mom, you’ve got exactly 60 seconds,” he grits out. He doesn’t even need to look at the screen to confirm it’s her. She’s called twice already tonight, calls he’s ignored with good reason, but somehow his mother thinks a phone call from her trumps any actual emergencies her doctor son could be dealing with. Which, tonight, have been nonstop since his shift began at six.
“Please tell me you ate something,” she begins.
“I was just about to, when you called,” he replies. “I’ve only got a couple of minutes. It’s been utter chaos for the last four hours.”
“We missed you at dinner. I can’t remember the last Christmas Eve when I didn’t have all three of my boys together.” Peeta closes his eyes. All these years my mother has been gushing about having a doctor in the family, and yet she never stopped to consider the ramifications of actually having a doctor in the family, he thinks. Particularly its impact on holiday gatherings. She obviously hadn’t learned anything from this past Thanksgiving, as now, just a month later, she’s already dumping a fresh guilt trip on him for missing another family dinner.
She continues, “And Jackson and Maxwell were just devastated when they heard you weren’t coming, until I assured them they’d see you tomorrow. We will see you tomorrow, yes?”
Peeta suppresses another exasperated sigh and breaks off a chunk of the Clif bar. “Yes, Mom, I’ll be there.” And though it’s childish, he crams the bar into his mouth and mumbles around it, “I wouldn’t miss it for anything.” His chewing masks the sarcasm that weighs down the words.
“Excellent. We need an updated family portrait before Everly and Rye have to leave for her parents’ house.” Placated, his mother moves to ends the call, but not before getting in a less-than-subtle comment about how much she adores his brother Rye’s fiancée and how happy she is Rye is settling down.
Staring at the disconnected call flashing on the screen, Peeta tries not to let the remark get to him. Mostly because he knows it’s a lie. His mother has complained more than once about Everly and how she’s not good enough for Rye. Peeta knows the dig was directed at him. He hasn’t truly had a serious girlfriend since junior year of college; just a few casual relationships that barely qualified as relationships. He doesn’t know how his mother expects him to meet someone with the hours he keeps. And his father, for as close as they are, never seems willing to jump to Peeta’s defense.
Taking a deep breath to let his irritation suffuse, he jams his phone back in his pocket and scarfs down the rest of his pathetic dinner. All three bites of it. Then he uses the restroom, dutifully washes his hand, and stalks out of the staff lounge, his short break over.
As he strides up the corridor, he hears loud shouting coming from the ER waiting room.
“…should be asleep in her bed, waiting for Santa Claus to come, but instead, we’re still here waiting for someone to take a look at her arm! It’s been over two hours! Don’t you people have any compassion? Or is Ebenezer Freaking Scrooge running this place tonight?”
Curious, Peeta veers towards the reception desk, where his eyes land on the ranting woman. She’s young, probably no older than her mid-twenties, and in spite of the fact that her dark hair is spilling out of a messy braid and she’s not wearing any makeup, Peeta is immediately struck by her beauty. The rosy flush to her cheeks from her tirade actually makes her even prettier. She’s cradling a toddler and protectively shielding the little girl’s right arm. The toddler’s blonde head rests on her mother’s shoulder, her thumb wedged into her tiny pink mouth. Her left arm clutches a stuffed orange cat. She looks tired. Actually, both mother and daughter do.
“Miss, I understand your frustration, I really do,” the receptionist says calmly, her eyes cutting to Peeta as he stops by her side. He reads the name on the file on top of the stack, the next patient scheduled to be seen: MCMURPHY, JOSEPH. Clearly not the little girl in front of him.
“I don’t think you do!” the young mother cries, her eyes flashing steel. “She’s three, she’s in pain, and she’s scared. And what’s more, I’ve seen at least five people go ahead of us who came in after us!”
“That’s not how the emergency room works, miss,” the receptionist replies. She drums her fingertips on the desk, offering the young mother a tight smile.
“It’s Christmas Eve,” the young mother adds, an edge of desperation creeping into her tone. Discreetly, Peeta moves around the receptionist’s chair, scanning the desktop until he spies the stack of files for the patients awaiting admission. While the receptionist continues to give the young mother the run-around, he thumbs through the stack, searching. His eyes land on what he’s looking for: a date of birth. His lips tip up. Bingo. This has to be it: HAWTHORNE, IVY ANN.
At the exact second his hand snatches Ivy’s file from the pile and slips the other one in amongst the stack, the young mother’s eyes lock on his. Her gaze narrows. He can see the exhaustion all over her beautiful face. Her full lips twitch, her countenance suspicious as they stare at one another.
“Ivy Hawthorne?” Peeta taps the file he had extricated. An immediate flicker of relief lights the young mother’s mercury eyes, and that lush mouth breaks into a grateful, relieved smile. The receptionist’s neck snaps up. “I’ve got this,” he adds, his tone leaving no room for her to argue with him. It’s not protocol for Peeta to take a patient directly, but it’s also not blatantly against the rules. Sure, it might mean a little more work for him, but if it means he can get this little girl home sooner on Christmas Eve, it’s worth it.
He smiles at the little girl. “Ivy, I’m Doctor Mellark. I’m going to help make you feel better, okay?” She nods once but doesn’t lift her head from her mother’s shoulder. Peeta’s arm sweeps to the side, ushering the young mother and Ivy past the desk. He scans the hallway and spies a partially drawn curtain halfway up the corridor. He leads them to the available partition and close the curtain behind them. As he turns to face them, he nearly slams into the woman. She hasn’t moved, and her luminous grey eyes fasten to his. She looks as if she’s going to say something, but several seconds pass and she’s still quiet, still watching him. The silence starts to become uncomfortable. Peeta clears his throat.
“If you’d have a seat, please, Mrs. Hawthorne. You can hold her while I get some more information from you.”
The young woman’s lips part slightly, again appearing as if she wants to say something, but instead she shuffles forward and Peeta waits while she settles on the edge of the hospital bed, gingerly adjusting Ivy so she’s sitting sideways across her mother’s lap.
Peeta sinks down onto the stool and scoots towards the edge of the bed. This close he has a much better look at Ivy’s mother. She really is a beautiful young woman, and given how adorable Ivy is Peeta assumes her husband is probably also very attractive. He feels a twinge of jealousy. Lucky bastard. Pretty wife, cute kid…probably has a nice little house and a golden retriever too. Living the dream. His dream, if he allows himself to admit it to anyone but his mother. If he was being perfectly honest, he had always envisioned himself married by now.
“How old are you, Ivy?” he ask, even though he knows from her chart and her mother’s declaration that she’s three years old. She hesitates, and still clutching the stuffed cat, manages to display three fingers. Peeta smiles at her again.
“I have a nephew who is the exact same age as you are. He told me just last week that he’s a big boy now. Are you a big girl, Ivy?” He keeps his tone gentle, hoping it will put her at ease with him. She nods, her big blue eyes lightening imperceptibly. “I thought so. Can you be a big girl and tell me what happened to your arm?”
Her mother answers automatically, “She fell. I was only gone—” Peeta holds up his palm. He has the triage nurse’s initial assessment, so he knows Ivy’s arm is likely broken. What he doesn’t know is how the arm got broken. And those details he needs to try to get from Ivy herself. Kids her age always tell the truth when it comes to how they were injured, and unfortunately it’s part of Peeta’s job to make sure there isn’t a more sinister reason she’s in the E.R. tonight, no matter how sweet and innocent her mother appears. He’s already had a few encounters with suspected child abuse, though his gut tells him that isn’t the case with Ivy Hawthorne.
“Please. I would like Ivy to tell me how it happened.”
Something dangerous flints in Ivy’s mother’s now stormy grey eyes.
“She. Fell.” The words are curt, enunciated coolly, but her voice is soft and Peeta can tell she’s keeping her temper in check for the benefit of her daughter. Eyes still pinned to his, she inhales deeply. A second later, her shoulders relax. “Go ahead and tell the nice doctor how you hurt your arm,” she whispers, stroking Ivy’s curls.
“I was trying to see Santa,” Ivy replies, her tongue tripping in a lisp on the “S’s.”
“What do you mean by that?” he prompts her.
Ivy scrunches up her button nose. “I was trying to see up the chimney. ‘Cause the chimney at Aunt Katniss’s house is so skinny and Santa Claus is real fat and I don’t know how he’s gonna fit down it to bring me my presents!” Her blue eyes brim with tears and her lower lip starts to tremble. Peeta reaches over and pats her knee.
“I wouldn’t worry about that, sweetheart. Santa Claus is magic. He’ll get you your presents, no matter what the chimney looks like.” He exchanges a look with her mother.
“It was all my fault,” she says quietly. “I went in the kitchen, to get the cookies and milk—”
“And the carrots! For Rudolph and the other reindeer!” Ivy chimes in, her eyes shiny wet.
“I never should have left her alone, not even for a second. This is my fault. It’s my fault. She wouldn’t have slipped and fallen off the hearth if I had been watching her.” Guilt chokes her words, and it sounds as if she’s close to tears.
“Accidents happen, Mrs. Hawthorne,” Peeta says empathetically, “that’s why there are emergency rooms.” She presses her lips together, her brows knitting.
“It’s Everdeen,” she says quietly. Peeta drops his eyes to Ivy’s chart, and furrows his brows, his gaze wandering to the young woman’s left hand. No ring. A brief thrill curls through him at the thought that she’s single. Asshole, he immediately chides himself. So not what you should be thinking about right now. He scans the chart more carefully and shakes his head.
“I’m sorry,” he begins, “but this lists Primrose Hawthorne as the mother, under the Parent/Guardian information, and a Rory Hawthorne as the father. I just assumed—”
She cuts him off. “Primrose Hawthorne was her mother. But I’m not Primrose Hawthorne. I’m Katniss. Katniss Everdeen. I’m her aunt. I should be listed as her primary emergency contact.” She swallows and squeezes her eyes shut briefly. When she opens them, they plead with his. Peeta glances down at Ivy, and then raises his eyes to Katniss again. The guilt that was clouding those silver irises a moment ago has dissipated, replaced with anguish. He doesn’t know what the full story is here, but he didn’t miss Katniss’s usage of the past tense in referring to Ivy’s mother. So he honors her silent appeal not to ask questions.
“Okay, Ivy, you fell, and you landed on your arm? I bet that hurt,” Peeta says to the little girl, but his gaze stays fastens on Katniss. She gives him the faintest smile and mouths, “Thank you.”
~*~*~*~
An hour later, the orthopedist informs Peeta that Ivy Hawthorne is ready for his approval to be discharged. Not wanting to keep her and her aunt waiting any later than necessary, he sets down the X-ray he had been studying, and heads back to where Ivy is.
Standing outside the curtain, he hears quiet singing. He draws back the curtain and sees Katniss seated on the bed, with Ivy nestled in her lap. A bright pink cast safely cocoons the girl’s arm. Her blonde head rests on Katniss’s shoulder. Her eyes are closed, and her little body rises and falls with the deep breathing of sleep.
Katniss continues to sing, unaware of Peeta’s presence. He doesn’t recognize the tune she’s singing. It’s not a Christmas carol, at least not one he’s ever heard before, but he continues to listen, captivated by her voice. It’s soft and decidedly feminine, but there’s raspy undercurrent to it that gives him chills. It’s like the first sip of a rich, smoky bourbon.
Gingerly, he tiptoes towards the bed and stands before her for several more minutes, until Katniss finally lifts her eyes. She immediately stops singing. Peeta smiles and nods towards Ivy.
“Someone is worn out,” he whispers. Katniss’s lips twitch into a chagrinned smile.
“I’m sure the second we get home she’ll be wide awake and it’ll take forever to get her into bed. She was already amped up about Santa Claus before this.” She tips her head and gestures with her chin towards Ivy’s arm.
“Warm milk. With a little bit of cinnamon,” he suggests.
“Really?” Her eyes round. “Cinnamon? That really works?” Disbelief clouds her words. He shrugs sheepishly.
“I have no idea. No kids. And I’ve never had much trouble sleeping. I’m usually asleep the minute my head hits the pillow. But I’ve heard from a friend with a toddler that it does the trick.” He waits for her to say something—anything—in response, but she doesn’t. Her gaze is back on the sleeping toddler in her arms.
Watching her stare tenderly at her niece causes something unexpected to claw at Peeta’s chest and he’s overwhelmed by a fierce compulsion to want to keep her here, to get to know more about her. It’s been a long time since he felt this kind of instant attraction to a woman. Why couldn’t he have met her under different circumstances?
“Are we all done, doctor?”
Peeta startles from his thoughts and offers Katniss an apologetic smile.
“Yes, sorry. You are good to go as soon as you sign here—” He holds the clipboard at an angle, to allow her to sign without having to disturb Ivy, “and here.” He flips the sheet back to the second page and she scrawls her name across the line there, too. Normally a nurse would go over discharge papers and protocol with patients, but Peeta had taken it upon himself to grab Ivy’s. He needed to spend every possible minute in Katniss’s presence.
Once the release forms are complete, he review the plan for Ivy’s follow-up care, including how to manage any pain she has and when she’ll need to return to have the cast removed. Katniss listens attentively.
When he’s finished, she stands up slowly, her movements tentative so as not to jostle Ivy. A sigh parts the little girl’s lips and she stirs, but she remains asleep. God, she’s cute, Peeta thinks.
“Thank you, Dr. Mellark,” Katniss says softly. “For everything. I know what you did…” She falters. “I mean, I know we, ah, weren’t next, and ah…” Peeta waves a hand dismissively, sensing her discomfort with his hijacking of the queued patients.
“It was my pleasure,” he replies. “Little girls should be home on Christmas Eve. Waiting for Santa.” He echoes Katniss’s earlier words. “I hope he’s good to her.”
He doesn’t miss the forlorn expression that flits across Katniss’s face as she glances down at her sleeping niece.
“He can’t bring her what she wants most, but he’ll try,” she murmurs and moves towards the open curtain. Just before she steps out into the hall, she pauses and turns to face Peeta.
“Merry Christmas,” she adds.
“Merry Christmas,” he concurs. With a faint smile, she steps around the curtain. It rustles in her wake and resettles. Peeta exhales and slumps against the wall, regret washing through him, followed by a stronger wave of sadness at seeing Katniss go. If it hadn’t been for Ivy, he might have concocted some kind of delay to keep Katniss here longer, found some excuse to pry more information out of her. Like if she’s single. A surge of adrenaline spikes in his blood. He can’t let her go this easily.
He bolts out into the corridor, scanning the bustling hallway for any sign of Katniss and Ivy, but they’ve vanished. Disappointed, his shoulders slump as he trudges towards the nurses’ station to hand off Ivy’s file.
It’s probably best, a nagging little voice inside him taunts, and he reluctantly concedes that it probably is. As much as he’d love to finally shut his mother up and find a woman that he’d want to spend more than a night with, it’s not fair to subject one to the kind of schedule he has to keep. New doctors are low-man-on-the-totem-pole. He’s had mostly graveyard shifts and he’s often on call. It’s his dream to have a pediatric practice, but he’s well aware that he’ll have to toil for a couple of years to get on track to make that dream a reality.
A few minutes later, en route to his next examination, Peeta spies Johanna, one of the triage nurses, coming out of the room Ivy had occupied. His eyes immediately narrow when his gaze lands on her left arm.
“Was that in there?” He motions towards the vacated room and then nods towards the stuffed cat Johanna has wedged under her armpit.
“What, the cat? Yeah. It must have fallen under the bed. I’ll take it to the station, in case someone comes back to claim it.”
Ivy’s cherubic little face flashes in Peeta’s mind. He remember how fiercely she had been clutching that cat, and how she had reluctantly agreed to put it down when it had been time for Delly, another one of the triage nurses, to take her for X-rays.
Peeta’s pulse quickens and he immediately thrusts his hand towards Johanna. “I’ll take it,” he says impulsively. She wrinkles her nose and cocks her head, her hazel eyes intensely scrutinizing him. Though they have a casual friendship, Johanna is far too insightful for her own good. Peeta doesn’t really need her questioning his motives for taking possession of the toy.
“The little girl it belongs to goes to preschool with Max. I’ll make sure he takes it to her after the holiday break.” Fuck, that lie flew off his tongue so easily he almost believes it himself. Johanna shrugs and tosses Peeta the cat.
“Suit yourself. One less thing to overflow the Lost and Found.” She strides past him and disappears into Triage 6. He stares down at the stuffed animal. His heart skips another beat and a slow smile tugs at his mouth.
~*~*~*~
Stifling another yawn, Peeta squints at the numbers above the garage. He’s definitely in the right place. He kills the engine and sits for a moment, glancing at the clock on the navigation system. It’s quarter after nine. Early, but not obscenely so. When his shift had ended at six am, he had driven home and fought the urge to crawl into bed; instead, he grabbed a quick shower and freshened up. True, part of him hadn’t wanted to see Katniss Everdeen again looking like the bedraggled, exhausted mess he was at the end of a rotation, and also true, he was going to have to clean up before he’s due at his parents’ house at one. But he also knew he couldn’t really have shown up at Katniss’s house at the crack of dawn on Christmas morning, even if he suspects Ivy likely had her up by then. He recalls, with a wistful smile, that Christmas morning was the one morning he and his brothers were always awake before his father. It was only a question of which Mellark brother was going to be the first to rouse the others. Him being the youngest, it was usually him, he admits with a wider grin.
He quietly exits his car, careful not to slam the door, and gingerly steps across the icy driveway. He pauses at the un-shoveled front walk, where a pristine blanket of snow blocks his path. “Shit,” he whispers, gritting his teeth as he takes the first step. His foot plunges into the deep drift, up to nearly his calf. He braces himself and takes a huge step, hoping to eat up the distance in a few long strides. Fortunately, it’s not a long front walk. He reaches the also un-shoveled front steps and carefully ascends them. He contemplates ringing the doorbell, but instead raps his knuckles against the door. His breath pipes out in white plumes and he rubs his palms together for warmth as he waits.
No one comes to the door, at least not immediately. Peeta lifts his fist again, but just before his knuckles can connect with the wood again, the front door opens a crack and he’s suddenly looking at Katniss. Those silver eyes round almost comically as recognition lights them.
“D-Doctor Mellark? Wh-what are you….”
“Hi. Merry Christmas,” he begins. “I thought Ivy would be missing this.” He smiles and holds up the stuffed cat.
Katniss stares at him, her lips parting faintly, and shock and confusion war on her pretty face. But then her grey eyes darken with what Peeta can only describe as restrained fury.
She opens the door fully and glares at him.
“You had Ivy’s cat?” she accuses.
“Uh…yeah…” he stammers, his own confusion welling. Why is she so angry? “My nephew…he has a bear. Otis. Can’t sleep without that thing. I thought if Ivy is anything like Max…well, she’d be missing this.” He holds the cat out to Katniss. She snatches it so violently that she stumbles backwards. Peeta is equally jarred, but his jolt is from the very brief brush of Katniss’s fingers against his when she had grabbed the toy.
But Katniss gives him no time to revel in the feeling.
“So this is why no one at the hospital had a goddamned clue what I was talking about when I called there looking for this cat an hour ago!” she spits.
Shit, Peeta thinks, an uneasy feeling clawing its way into his gut.
“Why the fuck—” He can’t help but notice her slight hesitation before she lobs the obscenity at him. “—would you take my niece’s cat? Is this something normal people do?” She’s shivering visibly as she rants, a clear consequence of stepping onto her front porch wearing nothing but green plaid pajama pants and a threadbare black Henley shirt.
“I….I…” He shakes his head. He’s not even sure how to defend his actions. He can’t very well tell her his ulterior motives in bringing the stuffed cat back to her niece. Not now. He definitely fucked this up.
“I was just trying to be nice. That I’d save you a trip on Christmas morning,” he finishes lamely.
Katniss’s nostrils flare and her jaw flexes. “Christmas morning,” she mutters, just barely audible over the clattering of her teeth. “Did it occur to you, Dr. Mellark, that I might be looking for Ivy’s cat and I might call the hospital looking for this cat?” She shakes the toy in his face. “And did it occur to you that, in spite of all the toys she had just opened, Ivy might be bawling and throwing a fit because Buttercup was missing?”
Buttercup, he has to assume, is the stuffed cat.
She pauses, as if waiting for him to defend himself, but all he can do is swallow against the lump crowding his throat.
So she continues, “They made me think I was crazy—but not until after they left me on hold for 20 minutes while I tried to calm a wailing toddler. And then they said there was no toy matching this description in the Lost and Found. And that’s because you had it!” Her eyes are a maelstrom now, but he notices that an edge of frustration has crept into her furious tone.
“And now Ivy doesn’t have it. So thank you. Thank you very much, Dr. Mellark. Merry Christmas.” And before Peeta can release the breath he’s been holding during her outburst and plead his case, she whirls around, her disheveled braid lancing through the air like a whip, and slams the door behind her. Stunned, Peeta can only stare at the wreath on the door as he processes what just happened.
What. The. Fuck.
Heart pounding, gut churning, Peeta retreats to his car. He takes a few minutes to absorb the shock of his encounter with Katniss, his mind reeling through the accusations she made. He never would have expected her to react like this. So much for any shot with Katniss Everdeen.
He finally gathers his composure and navigates out of her complex. As he drives, his mind continues replaying Katniss’s words over and over, and he finds one thing nags at him.
And now Ivy doesn’t have it.
Those words don’t make much sense to him. He just gave the stuffed animal back to Katniss. She can give it back to Ivy. She’ll have it now. In her wrath, Katniss just wasn’t being rational, he decides.
But her words continue to haunt him off and on for the rest of the day. Along with persistent images of Katniss that further torment him. She is never far from his conscious thoughts. As he sits down next to the fireplace in his parents’ house with a tumbler of scotch to exchange gifts with his brothers and his nephews, he finds himself wondering who Katniss is celebrating with. Ivy, obviously. But does she have other family?
By the time the Mellarks all settle around the table for dinner, he’s conjured up the notion that Katniss may not be married, but she surely has a devoted boyfriend who is showering her with gifts at this very moment. Her mood is infinitely better than what Peeta witnessed earlier. She’s probably dressed nice for him, and he’s sitting around her dining room table with Katniss and Ivy, like a makeshift family.
His mother’s irritation is palpable when she has to command his attention twice to try and draw him into the discussion centered on Rye’s upcoming wedding. Peeta murmurs the apology he knows she expects and feigns his dutiful brotherly interest for Rye’s benefit the remainder of the meal. But a dull ache has taken up residence in the center of his chest and he realizes just how badly he wants what his brothers have.
He just won’t be having it with Katniss Everdeen.

Various Storms and Saints Review
I’m alive! As per usual here is my disclaimer. I’m a fan in every sense, though I write fanfiction, and even some personal stories in my free time, I am in no way qualified to actually judge or critique anyones writing. Therefore, this is just a fun way for me to express what I liked about my most recent reads. Without further adieu lets get started.
This story is by @viridianatnight and can be found on AO3.
This is going to be long, so pack in, I’ve got a lot of thoughts. First and foremost, I’m a summary kind of gal. I like to know what I’m getting into, I analyze the tags, fully digest the summary down to the punctuation. VSAS lacked a summary but the reviews were raving so I went ahead and dove head first. Man oh fucking man did she nail it. Maybe our dear author isn’t one for summaries or maybe she planned it. Every chapter had me on the edge of my seat, waiting for that final reveal, the big drop in plot, the crescendo. It was worth it. Through every guess and shot it the dark it was worth it. She delivered.
Every so often you read a story where there isn't a syllable wasted. This is one of those. From that damn pebble in a box all the way to Narcissa’s nickname for her son. My dragon? Are you joking me.
Never before have I felt I have known Hermione. You love her, always, she's a star. But here she is human. Here she is a woman. Here is a character who I know, who I have met, who I will meet again in life. She is drowning and swimming, lost and found. She is me. She is all of us. Self loathing is so deeply tragic and for the first time that I have read, Hermione is tragic. This story is as much a romance as it is a tragedy for the ages. You watch the little girl you loved as a child, who’s character came alive on paper, start to die in front of you. Without becoming to much of a sap, the simple fact is this, if you as a woman want to feel seen go open your web browser and get to reading.
And Draco. What a man. Tall and handsome is to be expected, but multifaceted and palatable is another beast entirely--and yet here he is on screen, all of those things. His relationship with Theo is (I hate to overuse the word) human. They’re boys still, really, who love one another deeply but will never admit it without a fight. They’ll defend one another fearlessly and bite hard when confronted about it. Draco often has passion in the stories I’ve read but not like this. He has a fire inside him that burns for Hermione, for his best friend, for his mother, and even for his enemies. He is completely consumed by his love and his anger. He is almost nothing outside of those feelings. They make him as a man, good and bad. Sure he might be a touch scary but boy oh boy is he the kind of partner (and lover) we all long for.
Before we get into the little things I want to talk about Ginny. What a star. What a friend. In most stories Hermione is cut away from the group, relegated to Slytherins almost entirely. Its wonderful to see her friendship with Ginny thrive, and even more to see it be genuine. There is sisterly love sure but Ginny puts up a fight, as every good friend has.
Molly. You bastard. Her letter to Hermione left me gutted. Especially when she’d been so great at holding Ron accountable in the past.
The cellphone was truly something special. The way it allowed Theo to step further into the light as a main character was brilliant. Speaking of his role, theres a happy ending! Our comic relief and great logician (seriously his wisdom is what held this all together) finally gets an ending he deserves.
That of course launches me into another ramble. Queerness is so rarely written without angst. Seamus and Dean are just in love. There is no hardship or pain written about. They are two young men and they are in love and there isn't anything else to say about it. And the way that Theo feels no shame about being in love with a man, rather just shame that he can’t have him, its just beautiful. It’s simple and plain and perfect.
Okay okay I know I said this was going to be long and I promise I’m wrapping up. Heres a rapid fire round before I sign off entirely. Lavenders death? Crippled me. She is a virtue? I squealed. Peace and love, I’m so sick of having to google French. So sick. So tired. I’ll keep doing it though, till the day a man calls me mon coer.
Honestly my joy is too much for words. This is one of the greats, without a doubt. Viridian, you have a gift, and I pray that you never stop wanting to share it with us.

Yet another letter dropped into the lap of Aria Dumbledore as she sat absentmindedly sketching. Dropping her quill back into the small pot of ink which balanced on the arm of her chair, a small sigh escaped her lips. She had been expecting another to arrive any day now.
Aria allowed herself a small glance in the direction of her desk where the ever growing pile of unopened letter sat gathering dust. Disregarding her drawing, Aria traveled to her desk, fingers fumbling with the edge of the envelope. Admittedly, Aria's mind had been focused on that small pile of letters the past few days, and consequently the man who sent them. She couldn't bring herself to reply to his constant inquiries, but she had considered there was no harm in opening a few of them. She longed to hear from him, though she had been in denial for so long now she wasn't sure what to expect from his most recent letters.
Waiting no longer she ripped the paper from its wax seal, her eyes quickly scanning every word on the page.
My dear Aria, Though I know you say you cannot reply to my letters, I write them all with the hope that you will find the time in your busy schedule to at least read them. As always things are quiet here without you. Too quiet. I miss your voice. I miss hearing you sing to yourself in the shower thinking no one can hear you, I miss hearing you hum as you wander aimlessly through the house, I miss watching you draw as I pose for you, but most importantly I miss holding you in my arms. I long for the end of the school year when we will be reunited and I will have nothing to miss except maybe writing these letters. I long for a response to my letters, my darling. I simply must know that you miss me as I miss you. In the mean time I will continue to write to you to keep myself distracted from everything terrible happening in the world, by simply thinking of you. All my love, S.
Aria couldn't help but feel a great pang of guilt in the pit of her stomach for ignoring the letters, but she couldn't bare the thought of reading them, while she was still coming to terms with how she felt when she decided to leave for Hogwarts. She knew immediately she would not be able to maintain a long distance relationship with him. Though he was the first man she had ever loved she had been too cowardly to confess her feelings for him in person, let alone on a piece of parchment. She knew she was a pathetic coward from the moment he told her he loved her and she could not find it in her to return the favour. Her cowardice was more than proven the day she left for Hogwarts. Aria had planned to break up with him, to avoid further heartbreak down the line. But she could not even find the courage to do that.
Instead she was living in denial. In her mind they had broken up, and refused to face up to whatever she was truly feeling until it was absolutely necessary. Her plan had been to distract herself as much as possible, suppress her feelings and just forget about the situation completely. And to be totally honest her plan had been working for her, with the exception of a few off days such as today. However when it came time to wake up and face the music she had no idea what her plan would be then.
Leaving the letter open on her desk she took a stroll around the grounds of Hogwarts to clear her mind. The time to figure out all of her problems was not now. She was still a young, carefree woman and she didn't want the burden of guilt stopping her from living her life however she so wished.
Arias walk led her to the village of Hogsmeade, and after working up a light sweat, the young professor opted to pop into the Three Broomsticks to quench her thirst.
Unsurprisingly for a late Tuesday evening the place was barren. Besides for a drunken wizard practically falling off his bar stood, a crazy witch whispering to herself and two well dressed men, sitting out of place in a side booth, the place was completely deserted. Planning to only stay for a pumpkin juice Aria took a seat at the bar and begun chatting to the same barmaid who had served her and Severus all those weeks ago.
"Busy night?" Aria joked, rolling her eyes at the drunk to her right.
The woman laughed in return, handing over a glass of pumpkin juice. "This is pretty much the standard, at this time." She shrugged, polishing off a perfectly clean glass, to keep herself busy. "That one over there doesn't even order anything, but its not worth the hassle kicking her out." She gestured to the old hag in the corner, her perfectly polished nails glistening in the dim bar light.
"I wish I could say I felt sorry for you, but a break away from the chaos that is Hogwarts is a slight relief." Aria sighed. She was still not used to being around so many people all the time having spent the past few years alone, besides her mother, she often needed time alone to breathe.
"Oh, then you must be new. I've had my fair share of lonely professors spend an evening behind my bar, and I usually remember who's spilled their whole life story to me. Though you do look familiar, what do you teach?" She finished up with her glasses, leaning her elbows on the bar to get a closer look at the younger woman, her breasts practically falling out her blouse.
"I'm just an apprentice for now. I'm the new Potions Mistress." Aria smiled, taking a small sip of her drink.
"Oh yes, now I remember. You came here with that Severus. He's not unfamiliar with our whiskey selection, if you know what I mean." Both women rolled their eyes in unison. "He doesn't seem to talk much though, I can't say I know anything about him. I must admit I was surprised to see him with a gorgeous young witch like yourself."
"You weren't the only one." Aria scoffed, finishing off her pumpkin juice.
"Well it makes a little bit more sense now." She laughed, a set of pristine pearly teeth emerging from her red glossy lips.
It seemed Aria was not the only one who had been admiring the woman's beauty, and almost right on cue the drunk decided to look a little bit more lively, demanding another pint. Reluctantly the barmaid obliged, shooting Aria an apologetic look.
Aria couldn't help but notice the gruff looking man practically throw himself over the bar in order to get a good gawk at the barmaids behind. The slightly older woman seemed unfazed by the mans actions, in-fact Aria wasn't entirely unsure she wasn't enjoying the attention. Choosing not to interrupt as neither party seemed to object to the altercation, Aria kept her mouth shut.
That was until the man's attention turned to her. The barmaid disappeared from view, presumably to refill the barrel the drunk had practically drowned himself in. "Haven't seen you around here before." He started harmlessly, though Aria did not miss the way his eyes seemed to scan the whole of her body.
"Just moved into Hogwarts, haven't seen much of Hogsmeade." Aria admitted, but made the conscious decision to turn away from him, hoping not to engage in any further conversation.
"You a friend of Ros'" He asked, intrigued, while downing a good half of his pint.
"Not really, no." Aria shrugged. "I didn't even know her name until just now."
"Rosalind Rookwood." He edged his seat closer to Arias. "Fantastic barmaid, though I wouldn't say it was her best profession." He winked.
"I'm sure I don't know what you mean." Aria turned her nose up at the man, just praying he would leave her alone.
"Well, you know, bein' a barmaids fine an all, but it doesn't always pay the bills. Miss Rookwood's got her fair share of stories to tell, and not all of them her own." He laughed, the potent stench of his alcoholic breath suffocating Aria as he leaned in closer, wrapping a heavy arm around her shoulders. "If it turns out teaching isn't for you, just know you'll have a loyal customer in me." He hiccuped, his free arm, reaching down to stroke the woman's exposed thigh.
Instinctively Aria gripped onto his wrist, forcing it off of her. "What the hell do you think you are doing!?" Aria exclaimed, pushing the man away from her. "Don't you dare lay your hands on me again."
The drunk showed no sign of guilt or remorse, he simply chuckled to himself, revealing a shocking lack of teeth. Disgusted, Aria made to move but found herself cornered against the bar.
Fortunately the altercation had caused enough disruption to alert the two men having a casual evening drink. Instantly one rushed over to her aid, stupefying the old man. The second man followed suit and made it his business to remove the frozen figure from the bar.
"Are you alright?" The first man asked, his brow furrowing with worry.
"I'm fine, thank you for stepping in." Aria smiled, brushing herself down, as though she was riding herself from the drunks disgusting touch.
The man returned a boyish grin, his eyes bright blue and full of kindness. Aria had never seen anyone like him. His presence was almost cartoon like, with positivity radiating from him. Aria couldn't help but let out a nervous laugh, her smile growing just by looking at him. His energy was contagious.
"Is... is there anything I can do to thank you?" She tried your shake herself back to reality though remained entranced by him.
"Nothing at all. I'm just glad I was here to help." He extended a hand, almost nervously, introducing himself. "Alexander Turner, pleasure to meet you."
"You too." Aria blushed, unable to break eye contact with the man, and was now incredibly aware of how dumbfounded she must look. "I'm Aria" She stuttered, the sound of his friend retuning sending her back to reality. "I apologise for staring, but I just can't seem to take my eyes off you, you have an enchanting aura about you. I'm sorry if I may seem a little strange."
"There's no need to apologise, I get it all the time." He laughed, though not arrogantly, it was sweet and innocent. "My mother's a Veela." He added, almost embarrassedly, upon noticing the slightly look of confusion appearing on Arias face.
The couple shared an awkward smile, both at a loss for words.
Alexander's friend passed by the pair silently, slapping him encouragingly on the shoulder before disappearing behind the bar, Rosalind following closely behind.
Aria noted the difference in both attitude and appearance in the two men, finally able to distinguish between the two. The friend was tall and broad shouldered, his hair messy though not long. He gave off a sort of American football, "bro", fratbroy vibe. In other words kind of arrogant and full of himself. Clearly he saw himself as the one in control. Alexander on the other hand was more slim, but not skinny. Tall but not lanky. Innocent but not naive. His clothes appeared similar to his friends but presented more neatly and well put together. She assumed he felt sorry for his friend, knowing his Veela parentage would gain him lots of female attention, and in return Alexander simply allowed himself to get pushed around to boost his friends ego.
With a roll of his eyes Alexander practically confirmed her theory and Aria couldn't stop herself from laughing once more.
Knowing that while Rosalind and 'Braydon'; as he turned out to be, would not be returning any time soon, Aria and Alexander chose to occupy one of the booths and get to know a little bit about each other, where Alex truly confirmed all of Aria's suspicions.
Upon Braydon's return, he flashed his rather large biceps, kissing each one in turn as he flexed them, before letting out a hearty growl, presumably this was a display of male dominance among his kind. His kind being; douchebags.
With another roll of her eyes Aria bid farewell to the men, thanking Alexander once more for his heroic rescue.
"How about a date?" Alex called nervously as Aria had just about reached the door.
"I'm sorry?" She replies, caught off guard.
"A date, here, with me. What do you say?" Aria shook her head unable to look away from that damn charming smile of his.
"I'll agree to a few drinks." She clarified. "Just send me an owl, you know where I'll be." And with that she disappeared once more down the path to Hogwarts, the grey sky above all the while threatening to rain down on her.

Capturing The Merman
Pairing: Deuce/Ace ♠️❤ || Word count: ~2.2K || Synopsis: Ace went out to the ocean super early in the morning, went whoosh and fell in, suddenly hamsome merman Deuce saves him and hes oolala in love ✨
Tumblr media
Ace wasn't sure what had prompted him to wander out into the docks so early in the morning. Dawn had just broken, and the sky was an ethereal orange pink hue, fading into the vast cloudy, blue sky. He stood in his spot, unsure of what to do. To sit, to stand, to swim? He wasn't sure.
He settled for sitting at the edge of the dock, setting his slippers aside as he dipped his feet in the water, shivering as his feet was submerged in the cold icy waters, cooled through the night's chilling temperatures. There was a comfortable silence as he kicked at the water lightly, enjoying the crisp sea air. Wind raked through his orange locks gently, and he couldn't help but stare off into the sea.
He wondered what secrets it held, what lurked beneath those dark stormy waters. He recalled his brother telling him tales of beautiful creatures dwelling underneath the sea, half human, half fish. Such creatures lured innocent humans to their deaths with their alluring voices, although there were various other versions of the story, where they lived in hiding, more peaceful than not.
Letting out a sigh, Ace spoke to himself, unsure of why exactly he was even bothering to voice his thoughts, "I wish I could see a mermaid...just once in my life would be enough."
SPLASH!
Ace felt his body jolt at the sudden noise, and he retracted his feet back onto the dock. What the hell was that? It was probably some type of fish right? Or a bird had swooped into the sea. Or perhaps it was a....
...No. He was growing paranoid. He was never the type to believe in the supernatural anyways, how could anyone live in the sea? Ace laughed, standing up as he shook his head, letting his thoughts dissolve to the sound of crashing waves.
"Who am I kidding? There's no way mermaids exist—whoa!" Ace's eyes widened for a fraction of a centimeter as he felt himself slipping on the puddle that had begun to form around his feet. He fell back, plunging into the ocean with a deafening splash.
He felt as if time had momentarily paused, suspending him in the sea, his world turning dark with the murkiness of the ocean, which abruptly had taken his breath away. It was not because of the water that had begun to fill up his lungs, no, it wasn't quite that simple.
As he felt himself sinking into the depths of the ocean, his limbs failing him from swimming to safety, a soft humming, a gentle lullaby reached his ears, the most enchanting voice he had ever heard. What soon greeted him after was the feel of slender, yet strong arms wrapping around his body, and a luminesce pair of teal eyes.
"Mer...maid...?"
—✨✨ line break ✨✨—
Ace had woken up in a fit of coughs, forcing water out of his system. He laid on his back on the dock, his sight still blurry, and he felt himself growing teary as he attempted to adjust his vision. There was someone beside him, a blurry blue figure. Once they had noticed him looking to them, they quickly dove back into the ocean, and it didn't take Ace very long to figure out what exactly had saved him.
However, by the time he'd regained his bearings entirely, the figure was long gone, and he fixed his eyes onto the sea, a certain feeling welling up in his chest. Excitement? Thrill? He couldn't be sure. Grabbing his bag, he ran home, sopping wet, yet a wide grin was plastered all over his face. He'd come back tomorrow, and this time for sure he'd catch the mermaid.
The next day, he came back again, however this time, with full intentions of finding the mermaid that had saved him. He couldn't be sure that it would appear again—perhaps that was only a one time thing, who knows, but he wanted at least one good glimpse of it. It was truly a shame his sight had been messed up the other day.
He recalled yesterday's incident, and how shortly before he'd fallen, he had mentioned wanting to see a mermaid. If the splash really had been it, then it probably understood human language. If anything, maybe if he called out for it again, it would respond.
It was a long shot, but worth a try.
"Hey! I don't know if you're out there...or if you can hear me, but...it's me! The person who fell in yesterday," His cheeks burned in embarrassment as he realized what he was doing. It was quite early in the morning, so no one was around, but he feared that if someone saw him talking to himself, they'd think he was out of his mind. "I-I wanted to thank you. So if you're out there...please show yourself, I'd like to properly talk to you."
An uncomfortable silence lingered in the air as he stared off into the unmoving waters, and sighed once more, sitting back on the docks, dipping his feet in the water. Yeah, he expected just as much. It wasn't like the creature would just show itself if he politely asked—
"For someone who fell in yesterday, it's quite bold of you to come back. Aren't you scared?"
Ace gasped as he straightened up in his seat, looking around. There was no one there, and the sea...it was still, yet he had a feeling there was something lurking underneath. The voice was somewhat muffled by water, but it was clear to tell that it was not the voice of a woman. So...perhaps...a merman? Ace supposed that made sense.
He tried to keep the excitement out of his voice, and attempted to reply calmly, "I'm not scared. I can swim, that was just...a one time thing."
There was an amused tone in the merman's voice as he replied, yet Ace found himself glued to every single one of the male's words. "What if I drag you in?"
"You saved me yesterday, it would make no sense to kill me now." Ace swiftly responded, "Anyway, I'm here to offer my thanks, but I don't appreciate talking to the air, so if you could come out, that would be great."
The water shifted, and Ace found his breath hitching as a figure rose from the water. Its body leaned against the front of his legs, propping its arms on his knees. There was absolutely no distance between him and the creature, and at that moment, Ace realized.
Oh my god, I like men.
Before him was what he deemed to be the most beautiful being he had ever seen in his life. The merman was fair skinned, with delicate yet sharp features. He had small, dainty lips, and a pair of gorgeous teal eyes, and dark blue hair, dripping with water, a couple of strands sticking to his face. The merman was quite lean, but it was clear that he did have some muscle, at least that was what Ace could discern from the feel against his legs. If Ace hadn't known any better, he'd have described the merman to be a fanfiction love interest come to life.
Nooo haha don't look at me like that or I'll have to kiss you <33
Jokes aside, the merman's eyes truly were striking in every single way. Ace found that his cheeks had grown red as the creature stared at him, waiting for him to say something, "I uh...I'm Ace. Ace Trappola."
The merman smiled at him (and Ace's heart soared), "Ace Trappola...I've never heard anyone named that before. It's a good name. I'm Deuce Spade."
"Then...thanks for saving me Deuce." Ace said, carefully reaching out as if he were about to pat Deuce's head. He flushed, would that be appropriate? Did Deuce mind being touched? No, if anything, the merman was the one close to him right now, so it was fine right? Or was Ace overthinking?
Deuce noticed Ace's distress, and tilted his head, "It's okay, you can touch me." Normally, Deuce wasn't a very touchy person, however, he found he quite liked this human, he was interesting. Then again, Deuce had never actually met a human, so he supposed he was just fascinated with Ace.
Ace nodded, resuming what he had intended to do originally. He paused, "I've never met a merman before." His fingers trailed down to the light scales on Deuce's cheeks, and brushed against them briefly, "I didn't think..."
"—We existed?" Deuce hummed, leaning into Ace's touch. It was warm, unlike how cold everything felt in the ocean, Deuce found he liked that too. "Most merfolk live very deep down, where it's impossible to see them, even if you attempt to send some kind of bot to illuminate the way and take pictures. It's rare that we'd ever come up to high waters, and even rarer that we'd come up to above waters."
"Then I must be lucky you were around to save me back then." Ace laughed, "But...why are you here then, if it's not something common?"
Honestly? Deuce was just young, dumb, and curious, but he wasn't about to admit that.
"Hmm...I just want to know more about the human world." Deuce shrugged, "It was only going to be a one time thing, but after what happened yesterday, I wondered if you'd come back, so I went to look. We're often told to not trust humans but...you're different." There was a twinkle in his eye as he smiled, "I trust you."
Ace found himself once again flustered as he thought about Deuce's words. So Deuce had come back again for him...and he trusted him? That made Ace a little happy, he admitted. Something about Deuce made Ace feel...secure, safe. "I trust you too." His expression dimmed as he came to another realization, "Are you...after this, are you not coming back again?"
Deuce had swam up on a whim, and came back just to check a second day. Ace had thanked him, and there was nothing more to discuss. But still, Ace was a selfish person. He had said that one glimpse was enough, but he had lied. He was a greedy human, always wanting more. He had only met Deuce for a short while, yet the merman had already enchanted him so. He wanted to become someone more important to Deuce, he wanted to hide Deuce away, to keep the knowledge of Deuce's existence to himself.
Deuce remained oblivious to Ace's thoughts, and merely rested his head on his arms, his voice nonchalant, "Well...do you want me to come back?"
"I do." Ace nodded firmly. He moved to lace his fingers with Deuce's, looking at the merman earnestly, "I want to get to know you."
The merman blinked. Was it normal for humans to be so straightforward? There was something about the way Ace had said it that made him feel like they were a little more than friends. Or maybe he was imagining it? This was the first time he'd actually talked to Ace, so he wasn't sure why it felt so weird.
"Then I'll come back again for you." Deuce reached up, prompting Ace to bend down closer to him. He brushed his fingers against Ace's cheek, leaving tiny droplets of water to run down his skin before he pulled back, "I'll come back again at the same time as often as I can, but for now, I'm afraid I must leave." The sky was growing blue, drowning out the soft pastel hues of dawn. It wouldn't be long before the dock grew busy, and people would come out, Deuce couldn't risk being seen.
Ace frowned, "...Alright. I'll see you tomorrow then. But before you go..." Oh god, was he really about to do this? "Do you know about the human customs of greetings and partings?"
Deuce shook his head, "No...what is it?" He looked to Ace with round eyes, curious as to what human customs Ace spoke of.
"To say hello and goodbye...we do this." Ace tucked a strand of hair behind Deuce's ear as he leaned down, brushing his lips against the merman's. He knew that perhaps he was moving too fast, perhaps it was terrible of him to trick Deuce like this, but...
Ace was a selfish person to the core. He swore that he'd capture this mermaid, and that was what he'd do.
Meanwhile, Deuce had to take a moment to realize that he was just kissed. Honestly, he had heard about the action of kissing from his studies, but it wasn't like merpeople were touchy, so he'd never felt one before...until now that is. Actually, it felt quite nice. He supposed that a new thing was learned everyday.
Deuce pulled Ace by the collar, bringing him into a deeper kiss, although it was quite clumsy. He moved back, smiling happily, "I'm the one leaving, so I should be giving you the kiss right?" Well, he had no clue, but it felt nice and Ace didn't seem to mind, so whatever.
He slipped back into the ocean, somewhat missing Ace's warmth already. Giving Ace one last glance, Deuce waved, "I'll see you tomorrow."
Ace waved back, hardly able to reply through his onslaught of embarrassed thoughts. He watched as Deuce disappeared into the dark waters of the sea, and waited til he could no longer feel the merman's presence. Standing up, Ace picked up his bag, slinging it over his shoulder as he spared the sea one last glance.
He wondered what tomorrow would bring him.

Hi, so I was wondering about a few things.
Firstly, can you describe more of Bakugous’ apartment. Like I understand it’s a penthouse, but like how much space does he actually have in there? I know he has the bedroom, bathroom, closets, and an office, but is there more space? Like, since he has the mind set to get the reader pregnant I would think he would have more rooms in ‘their’ home for it, but not a lot is told about other spaces/if there’s other rooms. Is it just cause he does not allow the reader access to anywhere else, so we don’t get to see her explore and try to find somewhere else to try and find comfort in? Hope that’s not confusing.
Lastly, this isn’t to push for the pregnancy theory, not at all, but not having her clean up the vomit was that to show how depend on Bakugou she is? Like, he always has cleaned up her messes and her just apologizing for it, but offering to help/attempting to try and clean it up at times. I know Kirishima knocked as soon as she cleaned herself up, but I would think he would understand waiting around a bit or even helping her clean it up, so it’s not just left there. Or her making an effort while she waited for him to get thing for Bakugou. Im assuming that having it be cleaned up will probably be in the next chapter (and another reason for Bakugou to be angry at her), but if there’s any significance that you can tell us about that, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thank you for creating such a story that always keeps us on the edge of our seats! It truly is one of the best out there!
Hello! Thank you for your support, it really means a lot to me! :)
Oh, jeez. I guess I’ll put on my interior designer cap for this one. So, for starters, it’s one level, as I haven’t mentioned stairs anywhere in the story. I imagine the kitchen to be wall-less, so that Katsuki’s view of (Y/n) isn’t blocked while he’s cooking. I also imagine big windows almost everywhere, creating a very open atmosphere.
(Y/n) is privileged with access to the other rooms besides the living room, but honestly, there probably isn’t... Much for her to do anywhere else, considering Katsuki’s lived alone up until this point. Think multiple other bedroom spaces apart from the master’s, one’s probably been turned into a home gym, and bathrooms around every other corner. There’s also the patio, which is attached to his bedroom. He’s got enough space to house probably about four to five other people, if he wanted to. However, as mentioned here, his place is pretty sparse, considering he previously almost never had a reason to be home. The main reason why (Y/n) spends most of her time in the living room is because that’s where everything she needs is; there’s a bathroom diagonal from the couch, Katsuki has a huge television on the wall, the kitchen is a few feet away, there’s video games, and she’s the first thing Katsuki sees when he comes home. It’s a win-win for both of them. Katsuki also probably had a fit when he came home one time, and (Y/n) wasn’t situated somewhere he could easily see, so now she always makes sure that he can find her when he comes home.
That’s a great observation about the vomit scene!! It’s also funny because I think the common notion when female characters throw up in fanfiction is to associate it with pregnancy, but let’s not forget that (Y/n) was also going through a very overwhelming moment, debating something that was against everything that she had been taught!

Defending Beauty
Lucifer (Supernatural) x Reader
Tumblr media
Masterlist
(Set after Season 11- Jack doesn’t exist in this timeline, and Chuck & Lucifer have repaired their relationship to an extent. Lucifer is living at the bunker, and so is Gabriel (who was kidnapped by asmodeus, but was found earlier in this timeline). The archangels will occasionally help out on hunts when the hunters need a helping hand).
A/N: Hey everyone. Wow! I keep starting these little things I get inspired to write and then I forget about them or I don’t think they are good enough to post- but I swear I’m getting back into writing (FINALLY). I’ve been really into reading supernatural angel fanfiction lately, so this was born out of that. I should have some more fanfics up soon with other Supernatural characters (Castiel and Gabriel cough cough). Remember to feel free to request for Supernatural (or anything I write about really). I love you all! I’m so excited to be getting extremely close to 2000 followers. I’ll have to do some kind of Challenge or something once I reach the goal. As always I hope you enjoy, feel free to leave any feedback:)
Word Count: 1750+
Warnings: FLUFF, Angst?, Good guy Lucifer? (Reformed), Strong Language, Typical SPN Violence, and Suggestive Themes.
Summary: Reader has always been kind to Lucifer, who seems to be misjudged by everyone in his life. The Winchester brothers don’t like this, and have no problem letting them both know it.
“Why do you feel the need to defend him!? He’s the goddamn Devil!”, Dean yelled, face close to yours with his hands clenched in anger.
“Because Dean! Lucifer is real and he isn’t just some little red man with horns and a pitchfork tail. He is beautiful, because he’s an angel and he used to be God’s Favorite”, You paused to take a deep breath, venom seeping into your words, “Just because all you and Sam want to see of him is the devil- you can’t even take a look around and see him for who truly he is. He may be a fallen angel, but he’s the only angel I’d ever get on my knees for. Even GOD himself has forgiven him Dean, so don’t patronize me for agreeing.”
You glared at him, challenging him with every word.
“Well now I know why on every hunt it looks like all you want to do is suck his dick!”
“Dean enough”, Sam said softly from behind his brother. His voice getting louder when he started to address you, “We’re just worried about- how close you seem to be with him. I know you weren’t around for a lot of the apocalypse stuff, but he hurt us a lot. We don’t want to see that happen to you too”, He confessed.
“You don’t choose who I spend my time with. Gabriel has “hurt” both of you and yet neither of you have any issues with me hanging out with him. The only reason we are having this conversation is because you don’t like that I appreciate his help. Why? Because he’s the “Devil”. So what? He’s proved time and time again that he can be trusted. Hell he just saved Sam from Death yet again! But no, only you two get to choose who receives forgiveness- who gets a pass when it’s convenient for you. If I remember correctly Cas started an apocalypse too, so stop being hypocrites when it comes to Lucifer. He hasn’t even asked for your forgiveness, but the way both of you treat him is ridiculous. Grow the fuck up.”
You swiftly turned away from both of them, the sound of your heavy footsteps echoing off the bunker walls. You couldn’t believe Dean- all Lucifer ever did was help and he couldn’t stop treating him like some kind of monster. He had come immediately and helped save his brother’s life, but nothing was ever good enough for him. Either of them.
You scoffed at the thought of what Lucifer would think of this outburst. Sam and Dean hated how you viewed Lucifer, and it was obvious your feelings were more than just simple respect. You felt like such an insignificant human with a crush on a mighty archangel, God’s favorite of all things. Your door slammed shut behind you, and with a quiet sigh you laid down on your bed. Your hands pressed against your face in frustration of the prior events.
The fluttering of wings startled you, whipping your head around you turned to see Lucifer leaning casually against your headboard. Anyone else would have missed the slight narrowed look to his eyes and the left tilt his head made sometimes when he was trying to figure something out, but you weren’t just anyone.
“How much did you hear?”, You asked, hoping to get this conversation out of the way as quickly as possible.
He seemingly ignored your question, shifting closer to where you were seated at the edge of the bed.
“You know I never wanted to experience something as stupid or as dangerous as love. And to love a human? It’s simply beyond comprehension-”
“You don’t have to rub it in Lucifer, I understand”, You said, cutting him off before you had to bear the rest of your heart shattering in your chest.
You didn’t know what response you were expecting, but you jumped a bit when strong arms wrapped around your waist and a head leaned against your back. It was comforting and you allowed it, thinking it may be the last chance you would get to do so with the archangel.
“I don’t think you understand Y/N. I may be a fallen angel, but I wasn’t supposed to fall for you. It was never in my plans to let any of humanity into my heart- and if Hell were to see me now they would scoff at my sincerity”, Lucifer said, holding onto you tighter as if you might slip through his fingers at any moment.
You turned a bit to face him again, his arms still wrapped around you. He looked up, blue eyes meeting yours and you swore that you could make out a hint of vulnerability swirling there.
“Lucifer- I uh, I care about you quite a bit, and I don’t know if that’s what you mean regarding how you feel about me but-”, Your words were stopped suddenly at the feeling of cold lips pressed to yours. You were frozen at first, until you realized what was happening and returned the kiss passionately. A hand instinctively reached up and tangled into his hair tugging on it a bit. He groaned and gripped your hips pulling you into his lap. You gasped at the sudden movement, allowing his forked tongue to make its way into your mouth. You fought for dominance, but he quickly won against you. The kiss lasted for as long as possible before you needed to breathe.
You pushed on his shoulder with the hand that had been resting in his hair to signal for him to lay back against the bed. You laid down against him, your head on his chest listening to his heart beat, right hand absentmindedly playing with his t-shirt. His arm wrapped around your waist, drawing soft circles with his fingers.
“Was that- I mean, What was that?”, You whispered softly to him, confusion seeping into your voice as you wondered if he could really feel the same way about you.
He laughed a bit, smiling down at you. “You are an odd little creature aren’t you, do we need to do a repeat of the last 5 minutes as proof of how I feel?”
You blushed at this, the way he was holding you almost felt like confirmation enough, but you couldn’t help your need to know for certain.
“I just can’t believe that happened”, You pressed further, “It almost feels like a dream”.
The hand that was still rubbing circles into your side, pinched your skin softly. “No dreams here, little human. Although, I heard a mention of you on your knees earlier, and that sounds like quite the dream to me”.
You laughed a bit at that looking up at him, “Sweet moment ruined”, you said.
“Me sweet? Never”, He said gesturing with his hand to himself.
You leaned up a bit to press his lips to yours again. He smiled into the kiss and you pulled back to see the brightest smile you had ever seen grace his features. You couldn’t help but smile back in pride that you had caused such a look.
“How long have you had feelings for me?”, You asked suddenly, curious as to when he realized it.
He looked away a little at that, you would swear he even seemed embarrassed at the posing of your question. You laced your fingers with his, giving his hand a tight squeeze in encouragement.
He scratched the back of his neck with his free hand, “When I first came back to the bunker after my father helped me to reform my vessel. You were the one who would ask me to do things with you. You would read to me when I would sit next to you on the couch. I wouldn’t even have to ask- you would just suddenly switch from reading in your head to aloud as if it was customary. You would always have coffee ready for me in the morning when you realized that despite my angelic status I enjoyed it. And when it came to Sam, Dean, Gabriel, or even My Father himself. You would defend me, the devil, Satan- you looked past how everyone viewed me and truly saw me. I don’t know if I can ever make up for the mistakes I’ve made in the past, but I would like to start by learning to see humanity, angels, everyone the way you do. Kind and without any judgement. Somehow you’ve changed me, my little human”.
He breathed in shakily, before speaking again, “And earlier today when you prayed to me. I was terrified- me”, He laughed without humor, “I thought I might show up and find you dead, taken from me. I would never be able to forgive myself if something happened to you on my watch”.
You could see the pain in his eyes at the thought of losing you, “I’m not planning on leaving you anytime soon Lucifer, my angel”, You said softly, caressing his cheek with your hand.
He hummed in response.
“Since I first laid eyes on you, I noticed how lonely you seemed. How you would hide behind your hard stares and smirks. I wanted to treat you without looking through the eyes of others, especially knowing how well most of them judge character”, You laughed taking a pause, “I started noticing the way you’d gravitate closer towards me whenever we were in a room with others, and I liked the idea of us. A cherry red color became my fate when anyone would point it out, or notice it too. Because I never thought that you would want me as anything else other than a way to feel less alone.”
“I’m glad I was wrong”, You murmured softly into his neck, leaving a kiss there and continuing all the way up his jawline until you kissed his lips roughly.
“Me too”, He said, pulling away to look at you directly in the eyes, then settling you back into his arms.
You yawned quietly, your head resting on his chest again.
He laughed a little bit at the noise, but leant down to place his lips against your forehead.
When your eyes closed he told you, “Get some rest my little human, I’ll watch over you”.
He tried to pull away, but you snuggled further into his embrace and whispered, “Please stay”.
“Of course”, He responded quietly, knowing there was nowhere else he would rather be.
The comforting feeling of his arms wrapped around you as he whispered sweet words of nothing into your ear, lulled you right to sleep.
True to his word, Lucifer watched over you all night.
And God couldn’t help but smile in the morning, when he saw you and Lucifer together. Lucifer finally trusting a human enough to sleep in their arms, even if he didn’t need to.

One Step Back - Prologue
Hey guys. This is the Clark Kent fanfiction that I posted about a few weeks ago or whenever that was, the Clark Kent x ex-fiance/ex-best friend! reader. The first few parts are going to be more focused on Clark just FYI until I officially introduce Y/n. This story is supposed to take place after the movie Justice League. This is the Prologue and I’m just going to warn you, it is pretty long.
I haven’t written anything in a while and certainly not something this in depth so please be kind. If you want to be tagged please let me know.
Big shout out to @singeramg for being so encouraging and helpful through this process. Couldn’t have done with without her. Enjoy!
Clark sat in the living room he shared with Lois and stared off into the distance. He could hear Lois talking but the words weren’t computing for some reason. It all sounded garbled, like she was talking underwater. Magazines were spread out on the coffee table as well as binders and other paperwork. The coffee in his cup has gone cold long ago but still he gripped it like it was the only thing anchoring him in the room. Since he came back and was able to take a moment and relax because the world wasn’t in danger of being completely obliterated, there had been one thing and one thing only on his mind. He had been withdrawn and distant and there was no doubt in his mind that if Lois hadn’t been so busy being the ground-breaking journalist that she is and also trying to plan their wedding that she would have confronted him about it already. She wasn’t exactly shy about getting the answers she wanted, one of the many reasons why she made such a good journalist.
He took a deep breath and set down his mug. Clark felt guilty that he hadn’t been more present. He loved Lois and he knew he should have been more active in their wedding planning but he had such a difficult time concentrating recently. His eyes flitted over to her and he felt such adoration seeing her speak so passionately about something she cared about. The guilt gnawed at him knowing that she was talking to him about their biggest day in their life and he couldn’t even be bothered to listen because of how distracted and overwhelmed he was.
“What kind of flowers do you think we should have?” He flinched at how loud her voice seemed now that he was well and truly listening.
His eyes widened at the question. Flowers. He hadn’t really considered that for some reason. Did Lois have a favorite flower? Clark couldn’t remember. Every bouquet he’d ever gotten her had a variety of kinds and colors. Did she like roses? Tulips? Lilies? He could honestly say that he didn’t know. He mentally berated himself, that was something he should know about his fiancé.
“Clark? Did you hear me?” She asked.
He gulped and cleared his head of all his jumbled thoughts before just saying the first one that popped into his head. “Marigolds.” His voice cracked at the word and he nearly felt his heart beat out of his chest at the thought.
Lois laid her hand on his and it took everything in him not to wince at the feeling. Ever since he’d come back from the dead his senses had been extra sensitive, especially touch. “What did you say honey? I couldn’t hear you.”
Clark shifted in his seat and cleared his throat. He was finding it hard to open his mouth and repeat the word he had just said. His hand reached for his mug and he took a big gulp of the cold coffee, wincing at the temperature and taste before clearing his throat again. “Marigolds. I think they would be nice for the wedding.
“Hmm.” She retracted her hand and pulled out her phone. Her nose scrunched up and he could see from his seat that she was looking them up online. “I don’t know. What about tulips? Those of my favorite.”
He nodded his head but inside he was wincing. “Sure, that sounds nice.” He was disappointed, he couldn’t believe that he didn’t know her favorite flower.
She smiled and he noted that while her smile used to make him feel lighter than air, which is saying something considering he can literally fly, but now he just had a sinking feeling in his chest. Lois stood, grabbing her empty mug and his half drunk one and taking them to the kitchen. He could hear her turning on the sink and washing the cups. “I was thinking red.”
He turned his head toward the kitchen in confusion, his brow furrowed. “What?”
“Red for the color of the tulips silly. What else?” She laughed. “What do you want for dinner? I was thinking Chinese. How’s that sound?”
Clark ran his fingers through his hair, he couldn’t relax. He had been constantly on edge and talking about the wedding was just making things worse. It was bringing up all the stuff he didn’t want to think about. He felt awful. “Yeah. That uh- that sounds great.”
The wedding magazines stared up at him, making Clark feel even worse than he previously had. When he’d gotten the ring, he’d been so sure and so excited to propose. He hadn’t even gotten to actually propose to her because his mom had given Lois the ring after he’d died and she’d been wearing it since. Clark looked down at the magazines and his breath caught in his throat at the photo in one of them. It was a more rustic style wedding, something he knew Lois would never go for. Everything about it reminded him of home, the bride in particular. She had flowers in her hair and her gown, while still elegant, was simple. A peach colored sash was wrapped around her waist and in her hand was her bouquet which comprised of the same flowers in her hair in an organized-chaotic fashion. He could practically see a young girl who he couldn’t get off his mind in the dress, the colors in particular bringing him back into his jumbled mess of thoughts.
The sight alone took him back to the days when his dad was still alive, when things were so much simpler and yet so complicated as well. Clark found himself lost in thought, going back to the days when his biggest worries were keeping his secret and helping out his parents with the family farm. He could practically smell the homemade biscuits and taste them on his tongue. There were nights even now when he longed for the stillness, the quiet, the peace that the nights offered back home. He didn’t get that kind of tranquility in the city, or anywhere else for that matter, with all the hustle and bustle. His heart ached for the things and people he had left behind, one of which has been plaguing his every thought since he returned.
“Clark?” He turned to look at Lois and realized that he must’ve been best in his own head longer than he thought as the food had already arrived and was spread out on the coffee table. The magazines and such had been cleared away and only the one that had caught his eye remained, clutched tightly in his hands. “Did you see something in that one that you like? That one wasn’t really to my taste but I did see some cute ideas in there.”
He turned and put down the booklet on the end table nearest to him. Now, more than ever, he felt like he knew what he needed to do to help him clear his guilt, to focus on Lois, to get his head out of the past and back to the present. Clark turned back to his fiancé and took the take-out from her hands before placing it on the table.
“Honey, are you okay? What’s wrong?” He sighed and smiled softly at the woman he loved.
“Lois,” he took her hands in his own, “I think that you have noticed that I haven’t been myself lately and in an effort to spare my feelings have declined to ask me about it. Am I right?”
She nodded and scooted closer to him on the couch while gripping his hands tighter. “You’ve been through a lot recently and I didn’t want to overwhelm you more than you already are.”
Clark rubbed the back of his neck and grit his teeth. He felt even worse now. He knew she had noticed. “I’m sorry that you have been keeping that inside.” She stroked her thumbs along the back of his hands. “And I know that I haven’t been very helpful with all the wedding plans–”
“Hey, Clark,” Lois released one of his hands and cupped his cheek. “It’s alright. I have been managing just fine on my own. I don’t blame you at all for being withdrawn.” Her smile didn’t reach her eyes and he felt like an even worse person for her feeling the need to protect him. “Just tell me what you need.”
He shook his head. It shouldn’t surprise him how well she knew him by now. He cupped her hand that was on his face. “I think,” he eyes met hers, “that I need some time to get back to who I am.” A sigh passed through his lips; he was nervous about this next part. “I think I might go back home for a while.”
Her smile widened. “That sounds great Clark. I’m sure your mom would love to see you.” He breathed a sigh of relief. “When do we leave?”
And just like that, his heart sunk in his chest. “Um actually I think it’s important that I do this alone.” The joy on her face faded. “I just have a lot of stuff to work out and I don’t want to take you away from work. Don’t you have a big story you are working on anyway?”
She nodded; her brow furrowed. “Okay yeah that makes sense, I guess. How long do you think you will be gone?”
He winced. “A few weeks, maybe a month or two at the most? I don’t know honestly.”
Lois sighed and gripped his hands before releasing them and standing. She started pacing around the room mumbling to herself. Clark sat back in his seat on the couch. He pinched the skin between his eyebrows and groaned. His stomach was in knots. He knew he was asking a lot and he had lied about his intentions for his time away. Well, he hadn’t lied per say but he hadn’t told her the whole truth either. He knew if he had, she would have demanded coming, and this was something he had to do on his own. For goodness sake she didn’t even want him to go alone now and she didn’t even know the entire spiel.
“I don’t like this Clark, but I will go ahead and agree to it because of how you have been recently.” She turned and sat next to him on the couch again. “I just don’t want to lose you again.”
He set his mouth in a grim line and pulled her to him, wrapping his arms around her. She cuddled into his chest as he kissed her forehead. “You won’t. I’ll only be gone for a little while. Knowing you, you will be so busy with everything that you’ll barely notice I’m gone.”
“That’s probably true.” And with that it was like a weight had been lifted. He knew what he had to do and while he knew that what he was planning was probably going to make him feel like an even worse person than he already did and cause him more pain, that it was the right thing to do. Clark hoped that in the long run, it would help him, and her. He was going back home to make amends with the woman who was once the most important person in his life, his ex-fiancé and best friend, Y/n, who he hadn’t seen in over ten years. And just like that, the weight that had just been lifted off his chest, came crashing back down. He was so screwed, she was going to eat him alive.
So that is the Prologue for this story. Sorry if it’s rough. I hope you guys enjoyed it. Please let me know what you think and/or if you want to be tagged. I’ve already started on Chapter 1 but I have no clue when it will be finished. Thanks everyone!

Spamano multi-chapter fanfiction recommendation masterlist!
For all you home-quarantined people that have nothing to do and also because I’ve been meaning on making one of these since 2015 (took a global pandemic to get me started lol)
These fanfics are all with multiple chapters and listed in no particular order. Of course some are better than others, but every single one has its charms! I added only a few with 3 or 4 chapters because i liked them too much not to whereas the rest of the fanfics have at least 5+ chapters. So without further ado, here they are:
Una Notte A Napoli “One night in Naples, by the moon and sea, my heart was stolen by an angel who had forgotten how to fly.” (completed)
Per Sempre Tuo “Lovino Vargas, better known as Romano, is a famous TV actor. He has everything anyone could ever want. The only problem is that the thing he wants, over-night singing sensation Antonio Fernandez, is married.” (completed)
HOVA “The Nova Sagittarius was a ship that would take myself and countless other passengers on a one month trip around our solar system. But things went wrong; the ship changed and just like that, we were stranded. We got to know each other but more than that, we got to know ourselves.” (completed)
What We’d Do Without Gravity  “While lost in a hospital Antonio comes across young terminally ill patient, Lovino Vargas. With Lovino left only six months to live it’s an awful time a romance to blossom between the ill fated pair, but with a bucket list to race through as the clock ticks down, the two find that love is very hard to avoid.” (completed)
Numbered Lithograph “When Lovino starts attending art school with his brother he finds his most important lesson doesn’t come from his professors, but from a culinary student at a sister school: sometimes the flaws hold the beauty.” (completed)
Tienimi Streto “Lovino Vargas is a detective with a poor attitude and a dark past, driven to the side of law by pain and revenge. After his partner quits, he is paired with specially recruited Antonio Carriedo, who becomes something more than just a co-worker. When deaths linked to the Italian start popping up over the city, Lovino begins to question everything he thought he knew.” (on-going)

"What do you think of Mai?" Azula asked as Tsai was brushing her hair for what seemed to be the hundred time. After having served Azula for several weeks now she finally realized what she had meant by unbearable torture. Azula was lonely. She was truly alone and didn't know how to have people around her without intimidating them which is why she had figuratively chained her to her person. "I don't," the other retorted in the dead tone she always spoke to the princess with. She didn't want to think about her ex’s new girlfriend least of all. "Do you think she's pretty?" Azula asked with an edge to her voice. "Yes," Tsai answered flatly. "What do you like about her?" She asked once again. "Her skin is flawless," She brushed. "Her hair as dark as the night," she brushed again. "She carries herself with such elegance…" She brushed harder this time pulling on a knot on the princess's hair. Tsai mumbled an apology and began brushing from the count of zero once again. It was no wonder Zuko liked her… "I've met melons with better personalities," Azula commented. The red head couldn't help it she let out a small laugh a sincere one at that. She had to give to Azula the girl seemed very serious. "What about Ty Lee?" The princess continued. "I have no idea who that is," the other retorted reverted to her zombie like state. "You'll get to meet her this weekend, when we go to Ember Island," Azula said looking for the girl's reaction out of the corner of her eyes. "Ember Island?" The other blinked twice confused. Was that some kind of torture chamber? xxx Ember Island might as well have been a torture chamber.
"I'm so excited to spend the weekend on Ember Island." Ty Lee one of Azula's best friends, a cute girl with a long braid of beautiful brown hair, commented happily as she stood on the small ferry cruising through the ocean towards the island resort with Azula, Tsai, Zuko, and Mai, "It's going to be great to hang out on the beach and do nothing." 'How can she be friends with Azula?'Thought Tsai confused. She seemed too sweet and innocent. She could understand Mai, but this? Her?
"Doing nothing is a waste of time." Zuko snapped angrily as he stood from his seat on the bench next to Mai, "We're being sent away on a forced vacation." He stalked over and gripped the railing of the ferry with a scowl, "I feel like a child."
"Lighten up." Azula quipped sardonically from her spot leaning against the railing at the front of the ferry beside Ty Lee, her arms crossed over her chest. Zuko snapped out of his train of thoughts. "So Dad wants to meet with his advisors alone, without anyone else around. Don't take it personally. I already told you he's just paranoid about the intruder."
Zuko's eyes immediately focused on the girl from the colonies that was sitting next to Azula. It was so plainly obvious to him now. She had never betrayed Iroh. She just wanted everyone to think that she had. That’s why she was skunking around the palace at night… Her ears perked at the mention of an intruder in the palace and body slightly tensed. Regardless of Azula's comment her lost gaze remained fixed on the distant ocean.  Not wanting to be with this present company. Not wanting to see Zuko's new girlfriend leeching onto his arm.
Ty Lee suddenly turned towards the Fire Nation princess with a curious expression, "Doesn't your family have a house on Ember Island?"
"We used to come every summer when we were kids." Azula replied nostalgically, turning her head slightly towards Ty Lee as she spoke.
"That must have been fun!" She chirped.
"That was a long time ago." Zuko stated distantly, staring blankly at the rapidly growing island 'Why am I even here?'Tsai thought miserably a gloomy cloud looming over her. xxx
"Welcome to Ember Island, kids." Lo and Li greeted the five teens as they disembarked from the ferry and onto the dock that led to the smallest of the beach houses overlooking the water.
Sometime later the teens had been assigned their own rooms.
"Ooh," Ty Lee cooed as she laid down on a bed with pink sheets and a seashell design and she rubbed the pillow adoringly, "I love the seashell bedspread."
"Are you serious?" Mai demanded drily as she walked into the small bedroom after Ty Lee and looked around in disgust, "It looks like the beach threw up all over it." Ty Lee pouted and sat up on the bed as the others entered the bedroom, Lo and Li standing to the left of Zuko, Mai, Tsai and Azula in front of an elegant couch with purple cushions. "Fetch me something to drink pet," Azula ordered and Tsai simply nodded stalking to find something she wished she could poison and then debate if she should drink it herself.
"We know you're upset that you were forced to come here this weekend." Li commented understandingly from beside her sister.
"But Ember Island is a magical place."Lo continued, "Keep an open mind."
"Give it a chance." Li added.
"And it can help you understand yourselves and each other." The two elderly women chorused together.
Lo reached over and grabbed one of the four smooth rocks on a table in front of her, "The beach has a special way..."
"Of smoothing away even the most ragged edges." Li finished after taking the rock from her twin.

Azula scowled slightly as she led the five through the beach, searching for an open spot to set their beach blankets down. Behind her Ty Lee smiled happily, while Zuko and Mai walked close together under the shade of an umbrella. Tsai trailed behind all of them in the blaring sun carrying ALL of their belongings like a package mule.
'Right… This is probably why I'm here,'reality struck her when she realized she was the packing mule.
The Fire Nation princess smirked suddenly and sauntered over to where two young boys were building a sandcastle. The boys glanced up tearfully when she stepped on it and she smirked intimidatingly down at them. Her smirk grew when the two boys ran away screaming and she kicked the bucket they'd left after them. 'Typical..' Mai was wearing a two piece that consisted on a maroon top and a long skirt. Azula wore a halter two piece with a matching red skirt and Ty Lee wore a similar one but in white. Tsai had been forced to wear a matching one to Azula's but in a dark maroon color that almost looked black. It seemed like they had settled on a spot. Azula snapped her fingers and Tsai got to work unpacking the beach towels and spreading out the blanket.
"Hey, you need some help unpacking?" She turned her head to look at the scrawny teenage boy who had appeared at her side. "Uh.." She was unsure of what to answer. "Sure, we'd love some. Thanks!" Ty Lee suddenly butted in with a bright flirty smile as she handed him a bag, smiling cheerfully when he fell down from the sheer weight of it.
The boy grinned happily and began digging through the pink bag, pulling out and throwing random contents from the bag until he found a blanket. Off to the side on her own blanket, Azula watched the boy through narrowed eyes as he spread the blanket out. She looked away in annoyance and jealousy as Ty Lee gracefully laid down on the blanket. Tsai standing next to her with a bored expression on her face. She really did not want to be here.
Ty Lee looked up and squinted, bring her hand up to shade her eyes for a moment then she gestured towards the boy, "Could you scooch just a little bit more to the-" The boy instantly moved to the side and blocked the sun, giving her more shade and she winked at him, "Perfect." "Hey, what's your name?" Tsai turned confused and unused to being spoken to. Another boy one that had been with the scrawny one came up to her. Again, she opened her mouth unsure if she could use her voice or not. "I don't think I've ever seen you around here. I know I would've definitely remembered you," he flirted running a hand through his dark brown hair. 'He was kind of cute..?'She smiled back at him. Azula witnessed this and the jealousy burned inside of her. "Pet!" She screeched. "Come! I need you to spread some tanning lotion on my back." She fought the urge to roll her eyes.
On Azula's other side, Mai and Zuko sat on their own blanket under the umbrella. Zuko was glaring at the boy who had been speaking to the red head. He lowered his eyes as jealousy pricked at him and a shell conch lying nearby caught his attention.
"Here." Zuko said as he held the shell out to Mai, "This is for you." Maybe she would like it. Just like Tsai liked collecting seashells with his uncle.
Mai eyed the shell disdainfully, "Why would I want that?"
"I saw it, and thought it was pretty." Zuko replied, his tone confused and slightly defensive, "Don't girls like stuff like this?"
"Maybe stupid girls." Mai scoffed and looked off to the side disinterestedly.
"Forget it!" Zuko barked angrily and threw the shell away, scowling angrily.
He glared at the sand in front of him, gritting his teeth as irritation filled him. He looked up and saw that Tsai had been starring at him and Mai witnessing the scene as she rubbed some lotion on his sister's back. He clenched his hand into a tight fist, a handful of sand pressing against his palm, as more memories of his time in Ba Sing Se bombarded his mind. Specifically, memories about him and the girl laughing, her teasing him, working in the teashop together, the girl that he was desperately trying to forget yet couldn't and was also standing a couple of feet away from him. Serving as his sister's personal slave. He stood quickly and muttered something about getting something to eat when Mai looked at him curiously as he went and hid behind a large white rock nearby.
"Stop thinking about her." Zuko hissed almost silently to himself as he walked away, "It meant nothing. Shemeant nothing." He tried to convince himself. Maybe if he said it enough times, he would believe it. "Stop thinking about her like that!" He growled out angrily to himself hitting his head.
He knew he was lying to himself even as he said it and his heart twisted painfully in his chest. He shook his head, as if that would chase the memories from his mind and for a moment it seemed to have worked. It was then that he opened his eyes and saw her standing in front of him an eyebrow raised as she looked at him with what he interpreted to be judgement. The outfit she was wearing was doing things to him. She had never seen her showing so much skin and in such a flattering way. "Get out of my head!" The teen shouted. "You're not real! I'm trying not to think about you and you, and your stupid bathing suit isn't making it any easier!" He shouted manically. Grabbing the conch, he had picked up for Mai and throwing it at her. His face turned pale when the shell didn't faze through her like usual. "Ow!" She winced lightly at the impact. Looked at him and shook her head slightly in disbelief before turning away. "Wait- Tsai. Tsai. Wait!" he pleaded reaching for her. "What?" She snapped coldly pulling away from him. "I came to ask you if you were O.K. and you throw a conch at me?" She shook her head. "Where are you going?" He asked as he chased after her. "Your sister asked me to get everyone some ice cream," she dead panned as the two approached a small ice cream stand near the edge of the beach. "I'll help you," he offered. Any excuse to talk to her. To be with her. "Are you sure your girlfriend won't mind?" The other scoffed bitterly, jealousy dripping from her words. "Wait," he stopped her realization hitting him. "You're the one that doesn't want me. You're the one that told me to stay away from you. Why were you coming to talk to me?" "I can tell something is on your mind," she retorted sharply. "I don't want you like that anymore. I will never want you like that anymore. Just because I am done with you doesn't mean I don't care about you. I'm not a monster. I'm not you," she said with a piercing deathly glare wanting to hurt him. "Hope you're happy with Mai. She's a peach. You two deserve each other." She said in a sarcastic dead tone as she brushed past him hitting his shoulder. Zuko exhaled a breath of frustration and once again reached for her this time grabbing onto her upper arm tightly. "Have you lost your mind?" She attempted to pull away, yet he held a deathly tight grip on it. "What if Azula sees us? What if your perfect new girlfriend sees us?" She almost growled out. "I don't care," he looked at her intensely. "I don't care about any of that about any of them. I just want you." She lowered her eyes shifting uncomfortably under the intense emotion he held in them. His grip loosened and she pulled her arm back. Her jaw clenched. "Oh yeah?" She challenged. "Then prove it." She demanded. "Stand up to Azula. Stand up to your father whom you revere so much!" He was silent. A pair of laughing children ran by them making the silence feel heavier and more evident. "You have everything you ever wanted." "No," he said. "I don't have you." "You made your choice." She turned away her cold words hit like a nasty frostbite.
The two got ice cream for the group and didn't say a single word on the way back. She didn't even look at him. She could feel anger boiling in the pits of her stomach. She had a feeling she was going to snap soon. She didn't know how much she could bear. "Took you long enough," Azula said and looking at the cones she in one single motion slapped the cone it so it landed on a nearby child that was running around. She cackled maliciously as the child began crying. Then with that now familiar vile smirk took Tsai's cone and greedily enjoyed it.
'Was that… really necessary?' Zuko clenched his teeth and forced Tsai out from his thoughts completely, choosing to focus on the dark-haired girl sitting with a bored expression under their umbrella and he sat down beside her. 'Don't think about her. Don't think about her. Don't even look at her.'
"I thought, since it's so hot... Here." He offered her one of ice cream cones and the scoop of ice cream promptly fell out and onto Mai's lap.
"Thanks." Mai commented sarcastically as she stared at the pink mess on her lap, "This is really refreshing." She stated in that lifeless voice she always spoke in.
The Fire Nation prince locked his jaw and looked away from her, his own ice cream forgotten as it dripped down his hand.
Moments later Azula narrowed her eyes and observed several teens playing kuai ball a few feet away from where she and her friends were sitting. Standing gracefully, the Fire Nation princess took a few steps forward and tilted her head slightly, watching as a girl with pigtails leapt into the air and hit the ball, sending it flying over the net. She smiled slyly.
"Hey, beach bums, we're playing next." Azula called over her shoulder at her brother and two friends, "Ty lee, get over here, now!"
Ty Lee smiled cheerfully and flipped into a handstand nimbly, walking past the group of boys that surrounded her on her hands and towards Azula. Behind her, Zuko stood and took off his shirt, throwing it to the side while a group of girls stared at him dreamily, giggling and blushing.  Tsai averted her eyes and tried not to look at his well sculpted body. Mai rolled her eyes and walked over to where Azula and Ty Lee were already standing in the kuai ball field. "Sorry pet, it's a game for four, but you can sit and cheer," Azula said her ferocious eyes not removing themselves from the opposing team. With not much of a choice the red head sat on the sidelines resting her face on her palm a bored expression on her face.
Lost in thought she didn’t realize the game was over until Azula began cheering.
Yes! We defeated you for alltime!" Azula crowed with a maniacal grin as she stood in front of the burning net, "You will never rise from the ashes of your shame and humiliation!" She smiled cheerfully for a moment and looked at her brother and two friends with a calm expression, "Well, that was fun."
Suddenly, the two handsome boys who had watched the game, approached Ty Lee.
"I'm having a party tonight." The more muscular boy said with a smirk as he looked at Ty Lee, "You should come by."
Ty Lee smiled brightly at him, "I love parties."
The leaner boy smirked and glanced at Mai over Ty Lee's shoulder, "Your friend can come too."
Azula narrowed her eyes and stalked forward, "Uh...What about me and my brother? Aren't you going to invite us?" She crossed her arms and smirked when the two boys looked at each other skeptically, "You don't know who we are, do you?"
"Don't you know who weare?" The muscular one asked drily, "We're Chan and Ruon-Jian." 'Oh bite it,'Tsai rolled her eyes as she reunited with the group. There was nothing she hated more than classist arrogant pricks. Which was a shock considering she had dated Prince Zuko.
"Yeah." Ruon-Jian drawled snidely.
Zuko snarled quietly and started to walk towards the two boys with his fists clenched, but Azula held her arm out and stopped his advancement.
Chan sighed slightly and shrugged dismissively, "But, fine, you're invited. Just so you know, though, some of the most important teenagers in the Fire Nation are gonna be at this party, so try and act normal."
We'll do our best." Azula replied sweetly, a sinister smile appearing on her face.
"Why didn't you tell those guys who we were?" Zuko demanded after the four had returned to the beach house for lunch with Lo and Li.
"I guess I was intrigued." Azula replied with a slight shrug from her seat across Zuko and Mai and beside Ty Lee, "I'm so used to people worshipping us."
"They should." Ty Lee commented, picking up a piece of fruit with her chopsticks and popping it in her mouth.
"Yes, I know, and I love it." Azula stated with a smirk before continuing, "But, for once, I just wanted to see how people would treat us if they didn't know who we were."
Zuko rolled his eyes slightly and glared down at his food, not bothering to mention to his sister that he knew exactly how people would treat them.
"Like waves washing away the footprints on the sand, Ember Island gives everyone a clean slate." Li intoned wisely.
"Ember Island reveals the true you." Lo added with a sage nod.
The two elderly twin stood up and clapped their hands, "To the party!" "Come my pet! I already know what I want you to wear!" Azula exclaimed as she bossed the girl into the room to have her try on what she guessed would be another weird outfit. Again, it was a maroon long skirt and a crop top which was adorned by a traditional golden trim. Tsai was standing outside in the living room waiting for everyone to get ready. She didn't say anything as she kept her eyes fixed on the ground. Bored. She kept her mind blank sick of thinking and over thinking everything not wanting to think. "Why are you even here?" a voice spoke to her. She looked up surprised to see Mai leaning against the wall cooly. Now this was awkward. She obviously knew that she and her boyfriend had… well you know. Had what they had. The red head shrugged her shoulders sincerely having no clue why Azula had brought her here. "Why does Azula treat you so odd?" Mai asked once again. "It's like you're her doll or something…" Again she remained silent. "You don't say much," Mai said with a little smiled. "I don'tdislike you." 'What in the actual world?'She felt the edge of her eye twitch. She wasn't here to be friends with her ex’s new, polished girlfriend. She didn't want to talk to her. She didn't want to be friends with her. She would respect her, but that didn't mean she had to be friends with her. Tsai simply raised her eyebrows and crossed her arms over her chest upset. "Everyone ready?" Ty Lee literally cartwheeled out of the hallway. Moments later the five of them were standing in front of an elegant beach house with. Azula used the door knocker shaped like a lion-turtle to announce their presence.
"Um..." Chan muttered in confusion after he had opened the door and saw the four teens, "You're a little early. No one's here yet."
"I heard you telling someone you'd be partying from dusk 'till dawn." Azula replied lightly then she gestured towards the setting sun, "It's dusk, so we're here." Tsai looked over her shoulder awkwardly. She knew that Fire Nation people weren't known for their punctuality. Specially teenagers.
Chan furrowed his brow in bemusement, "That's just an expression."
"We are the perfect party guests." Azula stated matter-of-factly and she hit the side of her hand against her other one, "We arrive right on time, because we are very punctual."
Chan shrugged indifferently and stepped aside, gesturing for them to follow as he turned away from the door.
"All right, listen." Chan said as the five followed him further into the beach house, "My dad's an admiral. He has no idea I'm having this party." He turned to look at Azula with a slightly stern expression, "So don't mess anything up." "Help yourself to some Fire Punch," he said offering teens a drink. Giving both Ty Lee and Mai a cup with the punch. Tsai took a sip and instantly felt as if her nostrils were punched by a strong alcohol tasting like cinnamon and ginger. She almost spit it out as it threatened to go up her nose. She was not expecting that. "Does this.. Have alcohol in it?" She asked innocently. "Yeah," laughed Chan as he took a sip of his own drink. "What kind of party do you think this is Red?"
Azula smiled in reply and Chan turned to walk away, so she hurriedly spoke, "That's a sharp outfit, Chan. Careful, you could puncture the hull of an empire-class Fire Nation battleship, leaving thousandsto drown at sea." She pointed at his outfit. He remained silent. "Because it's so sharp." 'Wow.…That was painful. Was that… Azula flirting?' "Uh..." Chan faltered awkwardly, giving the Fire Nation princess a weird look, "Thanks."
Azula smiled again as he walked away from her, then her expression flattened into one of disappointment as she took a heavy drink of the punch and continued to walk through the house, Zuko, Mai, Tsai and Ty Lee trailing after her.
Across the room, Ruon-Jian stood in front of a vanity mirror and fixed his hair. He quickly turned around and leaned against the vanity, flipping his hair out of his eyes. His eyes landed on the red head that stood with the group of.
"Hey!" He called out casually with a smirk when he saw her standing before him, "First ones here, huh?" He walked over to her with much swagger and cockiness. "Wanna do a shot with me?"
"He thinks he's so great." Zuko scoffed quietly then glanced at Mai walking beside him. Jealousy was bubbling in the pits of his stomach. Tsai noticed this and smiled at the teen with long hair. "Sure," she answered.  He smiled back and he dropped an arm around the girl's shoulders leading her away. "Well, what do you think of him?" He asked Mai.
"I don't have any opinion about him." Mai stated blandly as they stopped walking, "I hardly know him."
Zuko scowled and looked at her with a vaguely accusing expression, "You like him, don't you?" Perhaps he was projecting. He huffed as he took a heavy sip of his beverage.
Mai sighed in annoyance and walked away from him. Zuko glanced over his shoulder and glared at Ruan-Jian and the red head before following after his girlfriend Mai. Both of them looked like they were having a good time as they downed a shot of what he could only assume was fire cinnamon whiskey. Azula was leaning against one of the pillars in the room judging everyone in the room angrily sipping on her fire punch. "Pet!" She cried out angrily when she saw Tsai leaning on a counter talking with the cool boy who was showing her a good time. She gave him an apologetic look and returned to her master. "Look," Azula said bitterly her eyes fixed on Ty Lee being surrounded by a sea of boys fawning over her. "Pathetic isn't it?" She said bitterly. "What is Princess?" The other retorted. "Ty Lee is so…" Azula looked for the words. "Blah!" And she has all these boys after her. She said bitterly crossing her arms over her chest.  "And you too!" She scowled. "Remember that you're mine!" She said possessively. "How do you think she does it?" Azula continued. "I'm afraid I've always had trouble with… the art of seduction?" She admitted and looked at Tsai with what appeared to be a vulnerable look. The colonial girl felt her stomach twist and her face grow white in sickness. She was not about to have this conversation with Azula. "How do you do it?" She narrowed her eyes. "Ruon-Jian seems pretty taken with you and well you must've obviously done something right to catch my brother's attention. What is it you women from the colonies do?" Not only were her words extremely offensive to imply that colonial women were more promiscuous than the ones form the homeland This was very uncomfortable. Uncomfortable and suddenly feeling awkward she took a large sip of the punch, realizing she needed a refill. "I guess they also like you because you're so exotic looking." "Umm.…" Her eyes darted around the room uncomfortably. "Just be yourself?" She offered feeling the effects of the liquor loosing up her body. "Thanks- that is completely useless." Feeling empathetic Tsai smiled a little at her. After all kindness was in the girl's nature. "You have a nice smile, try showing it off," she began nicely. "Be friendly and the odd touch to the arm always works," she said with a small wink touching her arm offering the slightest of smiles. Maybe Azula would be less bitter if she had a significant other. "I don't know! I don't know!" Ty Lee squeaked in panic and she closed her eyes, kicking and punching out at the five boys.
The five teens groaned quietly and collapsed to the floor after Ty Lee chi-blocked them and she hurriedly cartwheeled over their limp bodies and walked over to where
"Oh, I'm glad you're here." Ty Lee stated in relief as she walked closer to her friend then she glanced over her shoulder, "Those boys won't leave me alone. I guess they all just like me too much."
"Come on, Ty Lee." Azula drawled drily as she crossed her arms and looked at the other girl scornfully, "You can't be that ignorant."
"What are you talking about?"
"Those boys only like you because you make it so easy for them." Azula stated flippantly as she looked away from Ty Lee and Tsai who frowned a little, "You're not a challenge. You're a tease. It's not like they care about who you are." She looked over, her eyes widening slightly when Ty Lee began to sob and she reached out and grasped the other girl's hand, softening her tone, "Okay, okay, calm down. I didn't mean what I said. Look, maybe I just said it because I was a little..." Azula hesitated and glanced around before whispering, "Jealous."
Ty Lee's eyes widened, and she stared at the Fire Nation princess in shock, "What? You're jealous of me? But you're the most beautiful, smartest, perfect girl in the world." "Do you think so?" The attention shifted to the teen standing awkwardly between them. "Um.. Sure," she agreed awkwardly taking a sip of her drink of remembering she still needed a refill. "Anybody need a refill?" She offered and the two girls agreed.
"Well, you're right about those things." Azula said matter-of-factly as she turned away and looked at the other party guests, "But, for some reason, when I meet boys, they act as if I'm going to do something horrible to them." Azula's eyes trailed off to the girl that was currently serving the fire punch in three cups. "Girls too…"
"But you probably would do something horrible to them." Ty Lee replied with a giggle then she smiled, "I'm sure they're just intimidated by you. Okay, look, if you want a someone to like you, just look at them and smile a lot and laugh at everything they says even if it's not funny," Ty Lee advised.
"Well, that sounds really shallow and stupid..." Azula muttered then she turned towards Ty Lee with an eager smile, "Let's try it."
"Okay." The acrobat grinned and leaned against the pillar casually, deepening her voice, "Hey there, sweet sugar cakes. How you liking this party?"
Azula let out a loud and false laugh, causing the music to stop and the other partygoers to stop and stare at her in confusion and curiosity.
On the other side of the room, Zuko sat on a bench with Mai leaning against him.
"I'm bored." Mai stated blandly as another teen walked past them.
"I know."
"I'm hungry."
Zuko rolled his eyes and shrugged one shoulder, "So what?"
"So, find me some food." Mai ordered flatly. It was then that he saw that a certain red head was standing by the food and bar area getting refills for Azula and Ty Lee. Without asking he took Mai's cup and downed his own.
"Sure." Zuko muttered in reply and stood up, walking towards the refreshment and food table his eyes focused on the red target. "I was actually born in Yu Dao," she said to a boy and a girl that were standing next to her. "Wow," the boy said. "I've never actually met anyone from the colonies. No wonder you have an accent." "Is it true that you'll get sandworms if you walk around barefoot?" The girl asked ignorantly. Their expressions shifted to ones of fear as they almost evaporated from her sight. Confused she turned and saw Zuko standing next to her getting some punch for him and his girlfriend. "Oh," she said. "It's you." "I don't like the way he's looking at you." He spat out. "Pet! My drink!" Azula stormed over to where she was standing next to Zuko. She snatched the punch from her hands and grinned. As she signaled to Chan talking to another girl. "Watch this," Azula instructed. Ty Lee followed behind giggling and grabbed her drink as well. "This is going to be painful..." Tsai shook her head and continued sipping the punch as she referred to Azula’s plan of section. "I think you've had enough," A voice suddenly said, and she saw a hand reaching for her cup.
"I think it's none of your business," she glared at Zuko and in defiance chugged the drink in one long gulp. Several bystanders whooped and clapped as she did. She let out a breath, the drink burning her throat and decided to pour herself a third serving of punch. "Hey isn't that Ruon-Jian with your actual girlfriend? Are they- Are they kissing?!"She gasped mockingly. Zuko turned quickly to see the boy talking to Mai who looked beyond annoyed and turned back to see Tsai's figure walking away from him. "Wait!" He followed after. Not realizing that Mai was looking after him. "Wait!" He reached for her arm. She hated that if Zuko was anything he was determined. "I have told you a hundred times! Leave me alone!" She snapped pulling her body to herself sloppily and hitting something behind. A large crashing sound caught their attention and they both turned to see a fine China vase smashed on the ground. "Who broke my nana's vase?" Chan demanded indignantly as he ran up to Tsai pointing a fat finger in her direction. "It-it was an accident." She apologized raising her hands up. "I'll pay for it and everything," she offered instinctually not realizing she actually had no money to her name. "Oh, I'll think of something," he said clenching both of his fists his knuckles cracking as he reached for her arm roughly pulling her down. "Don't touch her!" Zuko barked furiously at the boy. He glared at the boy. "Relax." Chan said twisting her hand. " We're just going to have a little talk." "Yeah, what's the big deal?" Ruon-Jian entered the scene. "Stop talking to my girlfriend!" Zuko shouted without thinking and shoved the Ruon-Jian backwards. He stumbled backwards and collapsed on the punch table making it tip and the punch fall on his head making a wet mess everywhere. "That's it!" Tsai suddenly snapped and tossed her drink away. She wasn't going to be somebody's play ragdoll. She stood firmly and without any hesitation she pulled Chan's heavy arm over her head flipping him on his back in one swift motion almost like she had done with Jet back in Ba Sing Se. The impact made a small crater in the wooden floor. Bystanders looked in fear as they scattered. Chan looked up dazed. "I don't need you to fight my fights for me!" She shouted angrily at the scarred prince before turning away from him. He was about to follow her out of the party again when he felt a hand grab his arm. He turned to see Mai glaring at him looking beyond irritated.
"Yourgirlfriend?" She demanded angrily. "I heard that! Zuko what is wrong with you?"
"What's wrong with me?" He asked incredulously. Not realizing the gravity of him addressing the wrong girl as his significant other. Had she just not seen the girl flip that boy over her shoulder with one swift motion?
"Your temper is out of control." Mai scolded him fiercely, "You blow up over every little thing. You're so impatient and hotheaded and angry!"
"Well, at least I feel something as opposed to you!" Zuko snapped back angrily and he gestured towards Mai with his hands, "You have no passion for anything! You're just a big blah!"
Mai pursed her lips and turned away from him, "It's over Zuko. We're done." "That's it," Chan said. "You're out of here! All of you!" He groaned as he stood up from the hole in the ground.
Zuko scoffed and turned away, "I was just leaving."
"Have fun by yourself, loser boy." Ruon-Jian called out mockingly as he walked up to stand beside Chan.
"Nice." Chan smirked at his friend in approval as Zuko slammed the door behind him.

Sometime later Azula, her squad and Zuko found themselves outside sitting by the seaside. The waves called to them as they roared lightly when crashing against the shore. Tsai was still nowhere to be seen after having stormed out of the party. The group was currently having an intervention as the opened up, cried and vented out their emotions all while Zuko burnt down paintings of his family and memories of his youth.
"Oh well, I'm sorry I can't be as high-strung and crazy as the rest of you." Mai retorted sarcastically.
"I'm sorry too." Zuko snapped as he walked around the campfire towards her, "I wish you wouldbe high-strung and crazy for once instead of keeping all of your feelings bottled up inside." He gestured towards Ty Lee with his hands, "She just called your aura dingy. Are you gonna take that?"
Awkwardly enough a very tipsy girl from the colonies suddenly walked into a shitstorm. She made her way down the stairs holding a handful of street tacos wrapped up inside a paper bag mindlessly eating one as she reached the bottom of the stairs.
“Hey,” She greeted casually. “I got tacos.” She announced between drunk bites. Getting food after a night of drinking was her favorite thing to do with her brother and friends back home. She figured this group might’ve felt the same? "I'm sorry I can't be like your girlfriend!" Mai spat out an angry emotion coating her voice for once. "Huh?” She blinked twice confused feeling like she was missing something.
It took her a moment to read the room. Everybody was angry and glaring at each other. Ty Lee was crying. Azula had her trademark evil smile on her face. “Whatever is happening- Do notdrag me into this," she spoke out rounding around the fire and taking a seat on a rock next to Azula. "Too late," Mai sighed. "What do you all want from me?" She asked drily as she laid back on her rock, tucking her hands beneath her head, "You want a teary confession about how hard my childhood was? Well, it wasn't. I was a rich only child who got anything I wanted..." Her voice began flatter and colder, "As long as I behaved and sat still, and didn't speak unless spoken to. My mother said I had to keep out of trouble. We had my dad's political career to think about.”
"Well, that's it then." Azula mused idly from her seat across the fire, "You have a controlling mother who had certain expectations, and if you strayed from them, you were shut down. That's why you're afraid to care about anything, and why you can't express yourself."
"You want me to express myself?" Mai snapped and she stood up, her voice raising to a shout, "Leave me alone!" Mai stood up and stormed back into the house angrily. "Mai, wait!" Tsai called rising to her feet. She looked around the room upset. “Ya’ll are just angry because you haven’t eaten. Have a taco. You’ll feel better.” She promised and passed the bag around. Azula got one, so did Ty Lee at this point she had already finished hers. "What about you?" Azula turned and smirked in the auburn-haired girl's direction. All eyes turned to her and for some reason she felt like she was cornered. "Me?" She let out a nervous chuckle. "There's no story," she dismissed before giving a step.
She heard Zuko scoff from across the fire pit. "You have betrayed everyone close to you including the Fire Nation and were branded as a runaway traitor and will now spend the rest of your miserable life as a slave of coursethere's a story there." Azula stepped up and walked around her like a shark smelling blood. She placed a finger on her arm which she began to trail around her body. An uncomfortable chill went up her spine. For some reason this was more terrifying than facing her unleashed wrath.
"Why'd you do it?" She pressed. "Bring down Zhao's fortress. Free the Avatar? Betray everyone?"
"You already know that," she said annoyed. "Why did you do it?" Azula pressed her voice becoming rougher. "Azula, calm down!" Ty Lee said reaching for her friend.
Azula already knew this. The Fire Lord himself had grilled her once already. "You know…" She mumbled. "Why?" She snapped again in a more aggressive tone. "I did it for him!" Tsai word vomited. "I did it for him," her eyes painfully fixed on Zuko. "I didn't want your brother to be banished forever. So, I freed the Avatar… Knowing he would capture him again." "A-ha!" Azula exclaimed. "Azula! Leave her alone!" Zuko stepped in. But this time Azula ignited a palm which glowed in a fiery blue inferno. "And then you betrayed Uncle Iroh. I'm very intrigued as to your change of heart. And this time you cannot tell me you did it for my undeserving brother," her hand reached to touch her jaw. "No," she admitted defeated. If there was a moment to lie it was now. "I did it for me. For my grandfather… His legacy to the Fire Nation." Surprised Azula lowered her hand the flame which diminished until it vanished. "Your grandfather?" Ty Lee cocked her head confused. "My grandfather was the appointed Vice-Royal governor of colonial Yai Dao. He was more like a father to me than a grandparent. And I have never loved anyone else as much as I loved him," she felt her eyes begin to water with tears. "His dream was that one day all people could live together united and equal under the Fire Nation as one government body." "Well," Azula chirped brightly as she approached the girl and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "Good news is, the war is over, and we won. Also, all are united under the Fire Nation! The greatest nation of all!" She said loudly and much too enthusiastically. "So in a way. It came true." Ty Lee added with a bright smile.
Maybe Azula and Ty Lee didn't know her well enough to see when she was lying but Zuko did. "Big deal he's dead," Zuko suddenly said insensitively. Arms crossed over his chest as he provoked her.
She had ulterior motives for having "betrayed"his uncle. And he knew that they had nothing to do with her grandfather. This was just a red herring. "So what are you going to do? Keep fighting for his dream instead of yours? What do you even want Tsai?"
She glared at him with menace. The fire's embers flickering on the reflection of her eyes.
"What do you want?" He pressed. Azula suddenly lost her balance as the red head moved. She moved almost like a feral wild cat and leapt over the fire knocking Zuko down in a pounce to the sandy ground. "How dare you!" She roared. She pulled at his robes as they both tossed and turned wrestling in the sand. Azula watched amused with a cruel smile. "Stop it guys!" Ty Lee cried out as she followed the fight. "How dare you!" She shouted again as she attempted to hit his big head. "Tsai, he's dead." He repeated as he caught her fists in his hands. "You have to accept it." She snarled at him angry tears streaming down her eyes. "He's passed and he's not coming back and it’s time for you to stop. You have to choose your own way." Suddenly she stopped. She was heaving, her nostrils flaring. She was on top of him pinning him down to the sand.
"Good advice," she said after a moment. Internalizing her emotions. "You should listen to it," she rose to her feet and wiped her wet face. "Calm down, you guys." Ty Lee stated hurriedly. "This much negative energy is bad for your skin. You'll totally break out."
"Bad skin?" Zuko snarled triggered. It didn’t help that he was already heated as he whirled around to face the acrobat, "Normalteenagers worry about bad skin. I don't have that luxury." He leaned forward and pointed at the scar on the left side of his face, "My father decided to teach me a permanent lesson on my face!"
This place was terrible. Tsai hated Ember Island.
Ty Lee's eyes widened, and she stared at the scarred prince apologetically, "Sorry, Zuko, I..."
Zuko whirled around and clenched his fists, "For so long I thought if my dad accepted my, I'd be happy. I'm back home now, my dad talks to me. Ha! He even thinks I'm a hero." He laughed harshly, unaware of the smirk on Azula's face as he paced, "Everything should be perfect, right? I should be happy now, but I'm not." He spun around to face the three girls, "I'm angrier than ever and I don't know why!"
"There's a simple question you need to answer, then." Azula stated matter-of-factly as she looked at her brother, "Who are you angry at?"
"No one. I'm just angry."
"Yeah," Tsai added curiously with both of her eyebrows in a scowl. "Who are you angry at, Zuko?" She wanted to push his buttons just like he had done to her.
"Everyone." Zuko replied sharply then he shook his head in frustration, "I-I don't know."
"It is Dad?" Zuko gave looked at Azula with a vaguely panicked expression, "No, no."
"You're Uncle?" Ty Lee asked interestedly. Tsai flinched at the mention of Iroh.
"Me?" Azula questioned then she smirked, "Tsai?"
Zuko's eyes widened and he shook his head rapidly, "No, no, n-no, no, no!"
"Answer the question, Zuko." Azula pressed eagerly.
"Talk to us." Ty Lee pleaded compassionately.
Zuko shut his eyes and tried to block them out.
"Come on, answer it."
"I'm angry at myself!" Zuko finally snapped furiously and he slammed his clenched fists down, causing the campfire to turn into a pillar of fire, the three girls recoiling from the flames, "I'm angry at myself..."
"Why?" Azula asked quietly as her brother turned away from them.
"Because I'm confused." Zuko muttered wearily, "Because I'm not sure I know the difference between right and wrong anymore."
Azula scoffed and shook her head in amusement, "You're pathetic."
Azula began clapping her hands mockingly, "Well, those were wonderful performances, everyone. My personal favorite was yours my pet. I'm a real fan of the way you pounced on my brother. For a second there I really thought you were going to kill him!" She let out a laugh.
"I guess you wouldn't understand, would you, Azula? Because you're just soperfect."
"Well, yes, I guess you're right." Azula agreed easily with a shrug, "I don't have sob stories like all of you. I could sit here and complain how our mom like Zuko more than me, but I don't really care." She paused and stared at the fire, her voice softening slightly, "My own mother thought I was a monster." The other three looked at Azula quietly and she shrugged indifferently, "She was right, of course, but it still hurt." 'You're lonely..'The red head scrutinized.
"What Lo and Li said came true. The beach did help us learn about ourselves." Ty Lee quipped with a happy smile as she picked up a rock and rubbed it happily, "I feel all smoothed. I'll always remember this."
"I hope I never remember this day…" The other girl grumbled under her breath.
Azula smirked and looked at her brother and friends slyly as she stood up, "You know what would make this trip reallymemorable?" Azula grinned. "Let's go get Mai." Ty Lee and Azula rushed up the stairs back to the home. Tsai walked with her arms crossed over her chest. She spared Zuko a single sad glance before following after Azula and Ty Lee.
She thought about his words. Maybe... Just maybe he could still change.

Chan opened the door and he stared with a dumbfounded expression at the five teens he had kicked out earlier.
"We've got some bad news, Chan." Azula stated with a smirk.
Zuko turned his head and glared at the teen, "Party's over."
Xxx
"I hate to say it," Tsai said as they made their way to their beach house. After wrecking Chan’s and basically leaving the place on fire. "But that felt great Azula," she sighed. Happy to have relived all of that built up anger and tension. "Doesn't it feel so good to be bad?" She asked with flames roaring in her eyes. She had to give this one to her.
They returned to the home. Each one of them taking their own room. As if things couldn't get any weirder Azula had forced Tsai to sleep in the same bed as her. Feeling restless and with her head still spinning from all the punch she consumed and street tacos which weren’t sitting easily she sneaked away from the room and went to the kitchen to get a glass of water or some tea to settle her stomach. She stumbled in the darkness and stubbed her toe with a table in the living room. She cursed letting out a hiss and bending over in pain. "Who's there?" A voice asked. The red head looked up and saw Mai standing in the darkness of the kitchen. She held one candle which provided just enough lighting for her to enjoy her water. "Oh, it’s you." She said coldly before walking away. "Mai! Wait!" Tsai called as she jumped on her good foot comically to approach the girl. "Do you like tea?" She asked leaning on the counter.
“I don’t like tea.” She said dully.
“Sometimes making tea is less about drinking it and more about keeping company.” She said sappily with a small smile. Mai rolled her eyes. Moments later she was sitting in the kitchen counter sipping on some orange blossom and chamomile tea. Mai would never admit it but it was the best damn tea she had ever had in her life. Tsai couldn't stop blatantly starring at her. She was hard to read. She couldn't figure out just what was going through her mind. All throughout her tea making she hadn't said a single word or had made any emotional gestures. Her onyx hair was undone, and she sat looking as poised and refined as ever. "I can see why he likes you," Mai suddenly spoke. Catching Tsai off guard making her almost choke on her tea. "Mai!" She exclaimed. "I-I want you to know. I'm not that kind of person. I'm not going to put another girl down for the sake of some boy. We girls have to stick together you know?" She grinned cheekily. “World’s hard enough as it is.” She said with a slightly huff. "What we had," she shook her head. "It was nice but short lived. I think a part of me knew it was never going to work out. Him being a prince, me being a 'colonial pest,' can you believe I actually let him call me that?" She scoffed and shook her head. "I didn't ask for your whole life story," the other said in a dead tone. Tsai went quiet and lowered her head realizing she had just been word vomiting and venting her emotions. Mai smiled a little, just slightly when she could see the similarities between the two of them. "I could feel it," she said abruptly. Making the girl from the colonies look up. "He wasn't the same when he returned. Nothing felt the same. I could feel that his heart wasn't in on it. On us." She explained and took in a deep breath. "I'm just glad that now I know and don't have to sit and wonder about you two." "But Mai," Tsai protested. Her heart aching. "What happened between us. It's over. It started and ended in Ba Sing Se." "Maybe for you," Mai spoke lowering her cup of tea. "But not for him. My question is if you will take him back." "No," Tsai looked down at her tea sadly. "I once told Zuko I wouldn't accept him unless he was a changed man. Not the hot-headed out of control child you saw earlier. He already fooled me once. I'm not going to let it happen again." Mai finally stood up from the counter and finished her tea. Something Tsai took as an indication that this conversation was over. "He's changing," she said ominously before putting her cup by the sink and stalking off. Tsai swore she could've seen the slightest of smiles on her face. She didn't turn back and stopped when she was standing under the doorway leading to the bedrooms. "Oh, and-" She paused looking her shoulder. "It's not what you think. Azula I mean… I would be careful if I were you."

IwaOi Master Fic Rec List (50+ Fics)
Hello! In celebration accumulating over 190+ bookmarks on my AO3 account featuring IwaOi and Iwaizumi coming back into the manga (and for his (almost) birthday), I decided to create a masterlist of all of my favorite fanfictions in order to keep myself organized as well as contributing to more traffic on those works! I decided to split the works up by my own self-imposed genres, such as angst, coming-of-age (or the childhood-friends-to-lovers trope that we all love which depicts how their relationship changes as they grow up and will mostly be canon-compliant), and alternate universe. With the revival of Iwaizumi in the manga, alternate universes will be broken down into adulting AU where he and Oikawa’s diverge differs from in canon and actual, legit AU where there’s basically no volleyball.
I’ll include the title, link, word count, fic summary, and my own commentary (mostly for my own personal entertainment). While the AO3 fandom has been going strong since 2014, I personally have only been reading IwaOi fics for about 3 months, so I will most likely be recommending some cult-favorites, especially since I’ve been reading my fics by sorting through the tag with the most kudos.
My absolute favorites (or the ones where I personally push onto my IRL haikyuu friends) will be denoted with ♡ in increments of 1-3 with 3 ♡ being an absolute must-read. Fics marked with a * indicate that Iwaizumi or Oikawa or both are professional athletes because that’s honestly my Favorite Trope. This is incomplete as I got distracted while re-reading a lot of these and have only gone through half of my bookmarks, but feel free to check my own page here for the rest of them! This took me about 9 days to compile (aka this was in my drafts for about 9 days) but I do hope you guys enjoy reading these and leave comments and kudos!
Adulting AU
*♡♡Thirty Years and Change (the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad)
Word count: 19k
Summary: It’s July 10th, 2024, and Oikawa Tooru is an Olympian. His smiling face airs on an NHK promo every 45 seconds. He’s captain of the national men’s volleyball team, reigning star of the professional leagues, and he hasn't spoken to Iwaizumi Hajime in two years.
Thoughts: THIS IS IT. THIS FIC IS GOD TIER. They’ve been separated but now are falling back into old habits and there’s a confession on the line? Akaashi is in here and he’s pretty funny. I reread this all the time.
*♡♡♡the courtship ritual of the hercules beetle
Word count: 66k
Summary: Tooru is pretty sure he could manage the mating habits of a mosquito. It’s the mating habits of people he can’t seem to get right.
Thoughts: Absolutely the best IwaOi fic I’ve ever read. I’ve reread this about 4x and I always pay attention to a new sentence or detail that leaves me breathless. The characterization is pretty spot on, and I have to admit that this fic made me appreciate IwaOi a little more. I’ve cried countless times too. A cult-favorite but it doesn’t have nearly as many hits as it deserves.
♡days fall away
Word count: 17k
Summary: Except now he’s back home, so close to his old haunts and to Oikawa himself, and it's—weird.
Thoughts: They’ve separated for a bit but now they’re back in the same city and learning to be around each other again. Cue teasing from the biological and Seijoh family
it's been so long (nobody knows me the way you do)
Word count: 8k
Summary: Tooru hums, only half-listening. Somewhere along the way, Hajime’s palm has settled itself over the curve of Tooru’s cheek, thumb tracing over the line of his jaw.
Thoughts: They’re living together post-college feat. snapshots from their lives before getting together and their Seijoh team! It’s really soft but it manages a humorous tone as well.
Time
Word count: 5k
Summary: When they're twenty-three, their story only begins.
Thoughts: A piecewise fic told from Oikawa’s point of view. The tone is almost chatty but it really fits the pacing of the work as you get snippets and sentences of their relationship throughout the years
♡Almost a Stranger
Word count: 16k
Summary: Iwa-chan's leaving Japan. Tooru's not sure he can forgive him, but he's not going to admit his long-held feelings, either. A trip to Miyajima complicates everything.
Thoughts: They go on vacation right before Iwaizumi leaves Oikawa for a year. Oikawa ponders their relationship.
where fireflies never die
Word count: 4k
Summary: >>Oikawa: Hey Iwa-chan >>Oikawa: Did I ruin it?
Thoughts: Oikawa is a mangaka and basically writes his best selling series based off of him and Iwaizumi. This was pretty angsty ngl with a lot of introspection and second-guessing.
In the Business of Love
Word count: 22k
Summary: Meet Oikawa Tooru: He's a best-selling shoujo manga artist, a hardcore romantic and you won't believe where he's getting his lovey dovey fodder from...Enter Iwaizumi Hajime: He's Oikawa's best friend, a realist who also happens to be a wedding magazine writer despite not believing in romance...
Thoughts: Mangaka Oikawa but this is basically a rom-com lmao
Alternate Universe
Even Heroes (have the right to dream)
Word count: 20k
Summary: Oikawa Tooru, ace reporter of the superhero beat of Asahi Shimbun, hates superheroes. Or maybe he just hasn’t met the knight one yet.
Thoughts: Superhero-hiding-his-identity-Iwaizumi and begrudging Oikawa? Sign me up. This fic spent a little more time on worldbuilding than eventual romance, but it is still absolutely unique and entertaining
The secret omega
Word count: 17k
Summary: Iwaizumi’s annoying as fuck best friend. Who absolutely, definitely, no matter what, cannot find out that Iwaizumi is an omega.
Thoughts: A/B/O dynamics where Iwa is the omega and Oikawa is the alpha. 90% plot building which is pretty nice.
Conquering the Great King
Word count: 105k
Summary: Oikawa's lips twitched into a smirk and he brought them hovering just over Iwaizumi's, "One time thing, Two time thing, what's it matter as long as it's not a Relationship thing?"
Thoughts: Malicious and flirtatious Oikawa meet immovable object Iwaizumi. They’re businessmen trying to navigate friends-with-benefits and love all at the same time. A+ sex scenes tbh.
♡Infinite Risks
Word count: 8k
Summary: “It’s my fate,” Oikawa responds slowly. He’s crying.“It’s too lonely,” Iwaizumi’s heart sounded broken. “And I’m not there with you. Not really.”
Thoughts: Edge of Tomorrow AU!!!!! Please watch Edge of Tomorrow first because it’s truly a brilliant movie that I wholly enjoyed and this fic reflects that. This also made me really sad so Beware
*♡Something Like Us
Word count: 28k
Summary: Friends since childhood, Oikawa and Iwaizumi now live together, both playing for the National Team. It's no secret that athletes who are bonded perform better. So if the two of them happen to bond...It'd be for the good of the team, right?
Thoughts: ABO dynamics (and somewhat canon-compliant) as they’re roommates, on the national team, and try to navigate being “fake” mated while harboring feelings
And All the Prince’s Men
Word count: 65k
Summary: “Father only loves that which he owns, and I am the one thing that can never truly be his.”
Thoughts: Royal bastard son Oikawa and his servant Iwaizumi. An enthralling read and universe. The romance takes a secondary seat here as it focuses more on plot and world-building.
♡long nights, no peace
Word count: 18k
Summary: It's the steady knowledge that Iwaizumi Hajime will always be someone that he can rely on, that no matter what the world throws at the two of them, they share in a piece of each other's soul.
Thoughts: Pacific Rim! AU. Otherwise known as my favorite types of AUs because they’re basically soulmates (platonic or not,, but they’re not platonic here)
♡(sing with me) A Song of Conquest and Fate
Word count: 26k
Summary: When Seijou receives a missive from Aobajousai to discuss a potential peace, its emperor Oikawa Tooru could not have foreseen the series of events that would follow.
Thoughts: Warring states/historical fantasy AU. The world building is amazing and this author has great control over her language use
Cotton Breathing
Word count: 13k
Summary:
Thoughts: Long-distance and summer only but childhood friends Iwaoi!!! A dreamy summer piece and reading it almost makes me feel like I’m in a Studio Ghibli movie because of the mood it puts me in
Similar Creatures
Word count: 53k
Summary: "What's your name?" "Whatever you want it to be."(Or, Oikawa gets directions from an attractive stranger on a street corner.)
Thoughts: Iwaizumi is an escort and Oikawa needs a fancy date
Space
Word count: 44k
Summary: Tries not to think of his rooftop garden, or the apartment he used to inhabit, or Hajime’s broken expression on the night they whispered their goodbyes before Tooru’s launch, attempting to push it all to the back of his mind behind visions of this alien world terraformed
Thoughts: Oikawa’s in outerspace. They’re separated. This left me feeling pretty empty ngl.
♡here comes your man
Word count: 8k
Summary: Iwa-chan, it reads, Have a good day today! Good luck! <3 <3 <3Suga chokes. It’s hard to imagine anyone calling the scowling and fierce Doctor Iwaizumi “Iwa-chan.” But marriage probably comes with all sorts of liberties.
Thoughts: Doctor AU where Iwaizumi and Oikawa’s relationship is pondered by Suga
In the Telling
Word count: 6k
Summary: Muggleborn Iwaizumi could not be less impressed with pureblood Oikawa Tooru.
Thoughts: Harry Potter AU where they’re in the same year and aren’t really friends but are also friends
♡♡The Loyalty of A Traitor
Word count: 76k
Summary: Iwaizumi Hajime was an undercover officer with a single objective: Infiltrate the Seijoh Syndicate of the Yakuza and tear them down from the inside out. His primary target was the boss, Oikawa Tooru. The job itself was simple enough, until Iwaizumi got in too deep and absconded not only from the mission, but from the city itself.
Thoughts: Oh fuck this was Good. Yakuza boss Oikawa???? Disgraced Iwaizumi??? Do they fall in love (again)?
and suddenly, we were traitors
Word count: 17k
Summary: "sorry, it's just... you’ve been amazingly kind to me these past few days. ...but i'm still not sure who you are.”
Thoughts: The amnesia fic this fandom needed
Trial by Fire
Word count: 78k
Summary: (lawyer!AU - in which Iwaizumi loves his objections, Oikawa is beautiful, and they have more chemistry than two opposing attorneys probably should.)
Thoughts: Hot
dear diary, i met a boy
Word count: 15k
Summary: Iwaizumi's first impression of his upstairs neighbor involves getting woken up at two in the morning to the sound of Oikawa singing along to trashy pop music. He'd thought it would get better, but it all just goes downhill from there.
Thoughts: Model Oikawa and salaryman Iwaizumi meet and try to make it work
on shipwreck shore
Word count: 8k
Summary: “I’m going to murder you in cold blood and feed you to the basilisks,” Iwaizumi says conversationally.“You can’t do that, I’m your boss,” Oikawa sings, positively sparkling. “Also we’re partners, which means,” he points at Iwaizumi and leans in, “you’re stuck with me.”
Thoughts: Detectives but they’re actually funny
♡Lockdown
Word count: 72k
Summary: Within the first few months of his stay, Oikawa gets caught up in a war between cellblocks, becomes a prime target, and must decide just how far he's willing to go to protect Iwaizumi Hajime.
Thoughts: Orange is the New Black AU!!! Im a sl*t for tatted Iwaizumi
an allegory of all the things we could’ve been
Word count: 16k
Summary: “I don’t know anything about some red string,” Iwaizumi murmurs into the cracks of Oikawa’s skin, “or even about lifetimes or fate. But no matter where you are, I’ll find you. Gods or otherwise.”
Thoughts: Reincarnation AU throughout the timelines. A good soft read that leaves you sort of empty
Angst
Timeless (We Have 30 Days)
Word count: 12k
Summary: Or AU where you're branded 50 days before you die. But Oikawa doesn't tell anyone so now there's only 30 days left.
Thoughts: Ahhhhhhhhh tears
the weight of water
Word count: 6k
Summary: “Again,” he says, the smallest tremor in his voice, and Oikawa blinks at him a moment before smiling, soft and sweet. “Iwa-chan,” he replies, and Iwaizumi closes his eyes. “Again.” “Iwa-chan.”
Thoughts: Death fic
open when
Word count: 1k
Summary: Iwaizumi knew it was coming, but it still hurt. It still hurt when he opens one letter and drowns it in the tears he cannot keep at bay.
Thoughts: It takes only 1.6k words to make me cry
Canon Compliant/Coming-Of-Age
♡♡i sing the body electric
Word count: 8k
Summary: It was never part of the plan, falling in love with his best friend, but then again, most things in Iwaizumi’s life that involve Oikawa rarely unfold the way he thinks they will.
Thoughts: A beautifully introspective piece told from Iwaizumi’s point of view. It’s wholly intimate and it toes along the lines of pining and soft angst. It’s told in snippets from their lives growing up together.
♡we can do better than that
Word count: 16k
Summary: Oikawa and Iwaizumi go on a road trip during the summer after their high school graduation. It doesn't go as expected, but maybe that's not such a bad thing after all.
Thoughts: There’s a lot of character analysis and it takes a step away from the casual banter they’re always portrayed to have and focuses on the intricacies of their relationship. The tone is almost a little more melancholy. (also they have to share a bed! trope)
♡when it starts to rain, they go inside
Word count: 33k
Summary: “Where?” starts Iwaizumi.“My parent’s old lakehouse, silly, didn’t you hear me the first time?”OR: Oikawa takes Iwaizumi to his lakehouse for two weeks, post-graduation.
Thoughts: Oh This Is It IwaOi stans. This fic really solidified my own headcanon for Oikawa (spoiler alert, OP isn’t too fond of Oikawa but she fleshes out his character and his idiosyncrasies so well that you can’t help but be drawn into all of his imperfection) and this fic respects Iwaizumi as well. It has absolutely great characterization and the fic ends on an ambiguous note.
to be first, to be best

Hey, hey, hey, look what I finished yesterday! Finally done, here is the epilogue to Slave to your Heart. Which, you know since you clicked on it...
Anyway, so I have a few fics to chose from for next and I was assured these were wanted to be heard. Or rather read. Please keep in mind, the sequel to Bad Karma, Terrible Fate, and Cell Mates isn't on this list because they will be posted next along with the ones I'm listing here for consideration. I like to do a cannon based fic and an AU in tandem when posting. Or try to anyway, I'm also still posting for SM and working on originals so this might get a back seat from time to time.
So here's what I got (none of these are finished yet but close):
The Shogan's Daughter: Kagome agrees to marry a man, sight unseen so that her village falls under his protection. With a steady rice supply and a few soldiers to protect them, she leaves home and enters the house of one Inuyasha Tenoe. Married life is made so much more difficult with enemy threats hoping to take Tenoe's title from him, ex-lovers weakening Kagome's resolve, and falling in love with your husband no matter how hard you try not to. Set in a Feudal Japan.
Beautiful Hell (working title): She was free. It almost killed her but she had escaped and now she just had to stay out of the dark clutches of her former king. And not be discovered for what she was by the new one. Too bad the Prince is a glutton for punishment, meeting the fiery Kagome, and doing what? Putting her in his harem of course! The setting is a made-up world but hints at Arabic tones.
Hidden Demons: Kagome was doing as commanded, going deep into the Vragoli territory and entering the fabled Crnac Mountains. But she is there to ensure peace, wanting nothing more than to keep her home, Fatamorgora from any more attacks. Her first time in Nema Dusa and yet, the King feels so familiar. Confused, she'll have plenty of time to figure it out, or will she? Her mind slipping all around with dreams that feel more like memories of a past she never had! The setting is made-up here as well but similar to The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings kind of vibes.
All of these are romances and have lemons btw. Let me know what you guys think?
Thanks @lemonlushff for the pointer. Loving this new cover and the Canva app!

Resolutions
Trudging off the elevator, I let my irritation roll off me in spades. Inuyasha's secretary didn't even try to stop me. Maybe he had already warned her of my coming? She knew better than to try to hold me back.
I took some of my anger out on the door, his door, and enjoyed how he jumped a little from my entrance. "Alright, I'm here. Where is it?"
He pointed and I went straight for it, quickly finding Moroha's much-needed school book. "I had hoped you'd bring the baby with you." I stopped, only to flash him a look then grabbed up Moroha's large French book. "She's doing this on purpose you know."
I sighed because he was right. "I know."
"She doesn't want to leave me."
"I know."
"We should probably do something…"
"We are doing something about it!" I fumed.
Inuyasha sat back, a grin pulling at his lips, "You're really upset being here? Forced to see me?"
"Right now I am!" I softened at that because it wasn't his fault. "We're doing what's best for us and that's best for the kids. This is what I want."
His grin faded and he lifted a dark brow. "What you want?"
"You gave me the choice…"
"You're right." He conceded, quicker than he used to. Maybe he was finally giving up? "You can always...stay. Here. With me."
Or maybe not, "Thank you, but no."
His smile was small as he nodded. "I'll see you this weekend then?"
"Of course. I do have plans. Big ones."
"I know. I'll be waiting to see you and the kids again."
He would always wait for me. Two years later and that would never change, I was certain.
The apartment was small. Especially for four people even if three of them were very small.
"Do we have to stay here?!"
"Moroha, it's a few more days. Now finish your broccoli."
With a frown, she did as told. Sota was morose as well. At this point, I was mostly used to it but it still ate at me. Haori was busy getting her peas all over herself while we all sat together at the small table just off the even smaller kitchen. "It's just until the weekend. Then you'll be back at Daddy's"
Nothing more was said but I knew she had more. Waiting until bedtime, I came to tuck her in last. Sitting on the edge of her bed, I leaned my back against the headboard. "Alright, Haori could wake any second now so make it quick."
My toddler was teething, sleeping through the night was impossible these days. Moroha stared at her fingers a moment longer, twisting them in the sheets before throwing her head back to look at me. "You're really going to marry him?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
I huffed, wrapping an arm around my firstborn. She took after her father with her mood swings. "Because I love him. And it will be good for us. All of us."
"Everything is going to change."
"No. Nothing is going to change. Other than us moving out of this place."
I glanced around at the half-filled suitcase. Moroha still needed to pack. "Things will change! I just know it!"
She was pouting and I couldn't help but laugh. "Okay, so some things will change. But they'll be for the better. I promise."
"So...this really is what you want? What Daddy wants? Being apart like this?"
I couldn't speak for Inuyasha but I knew he would lie and support me on this if need be. "Yes. It's what we both want."
oOo
Sango entered in the door right behind me as I stood staring at myself in the full-length mirror. "Do I look stupid?"
Her mouth was still dropped to the floor so she shook it instead of saying anything.
"I look stupid," I answered for her, pulling at the long white gown.
Quick to my side, she slapped my hands away. "Stop it! You look gorgeous!"
"I shouldn't have picked white. Everyone knows I'm not a virgin!"
"Who cares! You still look as pure as the day I met you."
"Sango. I had already lost my 'purity' when you met me."
"Exactly." I released a nervous giggle and she laughed, twisting a fallen curl behind my ear. "You do look beautiful. And ready."
"Yeah. I am. I've been ready for this for months now."
"He's a great man," Sango said with a sad smile.
"Oh god don't you start!"
She was dabbing at her eyes but the tears were still coming. "Sorry. Hormones."
A few tears of my own threatened, "Just because you had twins doesn't mean you beat me when it comes to 'mommy tears'. You're going to make me ruin my makeup!"
Sango quickly sobered at that, coming in close to fluff my dress. "How is Inuyasha handling all of this?"
I focused on my reflection instead of the skip inside my chest. "Don't know. But I'm sure he's doing the same as when we spoke about it last. He's not pleased about it but he wants me to be happy. It'll all be over soon and he will move on from this. "
"I guess that's as good as you're going to get," Sango said with a small chuckle.
Kanna, the wedding organizer, appeared in the doorway. "It's time, Kagome."
With Sango my maid of honor and only bride's maid, it was a short procession. I walked alone down the aisle, the rows of pews of the small church filled on both sides. On the groom's side, I mostly recognized faces while forgetting names. But on my side, I saw all the faces of the friends I had made throughout my life smiling back at me brightly. Most I had made in the last two years, gaining my freedom from Inuyasha's home. Then there were ones like Kaede and the girls from the home that I knew from long ago as well.
I looked to the front of the church, my groom waiting for me. He had his hair freshly cut, the shaggy short locks something I had gotten used to after having long ones draped over me night after night. A good change, I had told myself from the first time.
His hand out, I took it with little hesitation, glancing back at my three children seated in the front row. Moroha gave me a small but happy smile while holding little Haori tight. Sota was just happy I was happy, my little momma's boy. If I had chosen anyone else, I think he would have been more protective but he couldn't find fault in my new husband and neither could I.
Wrapped around his arm, I was led by my hand to stand fully in front of the preacher. Neither of us were truly religious but wanted a real and official wedding in front of everyone. As the man spoke, I stared at my mate, my husband. Inuyasha could fuss all he wanted but I would never regret this choice or the other choices I had made years ago.
I was happy.
oOo
Two years ago exactly...
The day was waning and Inuyasha's words were still ringing in my brain. Of course, they were, it was a lot. Inuyasha had been there the night my family died. He considered himself responsible.
In a way, he was.
And he had been watching over me as best he could ever since. I suppose that made him my guardian angel of sorts.
He took me in when things were the bleakest, loved me, cared for me even if it was done in the strangest manner possible. He was the only man I had ever known, my entire life was spent waiting for him without me even realizing it.
He had married someone else; he had more experiences than I had. That left a bitter seed in my chest, small and unkempt. It was why when I was 'sold' I believed it, because I didn't know why he ever married Kikyo. Now, knowing he did it to protect me, that seed withered quickly and died.
It didn't change the fact that there was much in this life I had little experience in. Or that he had lied to me for as long as I had known him.
Inuyasha surely expected me to take days to answer him. But I knew what I wanted by the time the kids were in bed asleep.
It didn't take long to find him, expecting him to be in bed but instead he was in the bathroom. The soft buzzing sound coming from it quickly gained my attention. I walked into a massacre.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"
He jumped a little but luckily not too much, an electric razor in his hand against his scalp. His long mane was in a bundle, tied and cut off, lying on the counter next to the sink. While he cut the rest off with his razor, short sprigs all around.
"I thought… it was time for a change?" My mouth just hung open and he turned his eyes back to him in the mirror to finish. "I'm almost done."
"But..but...why?"
He shrugged and buzzed the remaining longer hairs off. "Long hair was a family… statement so I had it this way for most of my life. Then I kept it to help with the Naraku case whenever I could, as long hair was still a family trait and would get me into places for evidence. Now that Naraku is locked away… I don't want it anymore."
I picked up the discarded mane off the counter. It was still warm from when it rested against his back. "I've only ever known you like this though."
"Should I have asked you?"
Finished, he faced me, covered in white hair. "No, but you could at least have gone to a salon! Aren't you a millionaire or something?"
He chuckled, taking a step closer but keeping his distance at the same time. "I didn't want to wait."
"Really?" I asked, twerking an eyebrow up at him. "Busy waiting for something else?"
Reaching out a brave hand, he ran his fingers down my arm from my bicep to my elbow. "I'll always wait for you, as long as it takes."
"Then… can you wait a year? Or two?" Fear and confusion mixed on his face and I giggled, quickly closing the gap between to be taken instantly into his arms. "I want to have this baby and lose the weight before we get married. And I want Naraku firmly locked away behind bars so my family is safe…"
"But… you want to marry me?"
He was still confused and I found it adorable. "I love you, Inuyasha."
"What about… your family?"
"You can blame yourself all you want for that but it was your father, not you. If you had been there, you never would have let it happen. You're not that kind of person. Yes, I miss them but I also let go of their deaths long ago. So, even if I was to blame you, I've moved on. I've forgiven you and all those responsible." The tension in his shoulders released as did his fear I imagine he'd had for years now. "Plus, you have more than made up for it; you've given me a beautiful family."
His forehead pressed heavily to mine and I tried not to mourn the missing locks that used to drape over us when he did this. "You're the one that gave me a beautiful family. When you got pregnant with Moroha… I was so happy I thought I would die. And then terrified you would get taken along with her."
Kissing the tip of his nose, I stayed on my toes, closer to him. "You've been afraid for a long time, haven't you?"
He was rubbing my back as if to make sure I was real. "Yes. And I almost lost you so now I know my fears were well-founded."
"Inuyasha… all of that is over. You have to let it go, let me go. I don't want to spend the rest of my life stuck inside this house."
"I know," he said but still gripped my shirt tight as if he would never let go, "but it will be hard."
"You can come with us, we'll all go out together. As a family. Until you're comfortable with it."
"And with bodyguards after."
"Inuyasha…"
"I love you so fucking much, Kagome."
I pushed his head back with mine to suck his bottom lip into my teeth. The action got me crushed to him, the arms already around me tightening and pulling me hard. I responded, wrapping my arms around his neck, his shorter hairs sticking into my skin with each twist of his head to get more of my mouth. Like the animals in heat that we were, we lapped at each other, our tongues twisting together between our mouths. My ass hit the countertop, Inuyasha lifting me and setting me down on it for more use of his hands. They grabbed the hem of my shirt and ripped it up and off.
Topless, I sat in nothing more than my cloth shorts, my legs around him as I pulled his shirt off in response. I was looking at his skin, running my hands slowly over his muscled stomach, chest, and arms, enjoying myself thoroughly. "I should take a shower. Get this hair off of me."
Looking up from his adonis shaped body, I looked right back into his burning eyes. Turning like the molten lead as they always did when I was even the slightest bit naked.
"Let me help you with that." I offered, popping the button on his jeans off and working them off his hips.
He chuckled, the first in what felt like forever as the last of his worry melted away with our heat. "I do love how horny you get when you're pregnant."
"This has nothing to do with that. I just want you. Always."
He bent me back with his kiss, my back gently hitting the mirror behind. My shorts and underwear between, he ground his hard shaft against my core, throwing gas on my flames. I dug my nails into his shoulders, showing my appreciation that was mixed with frustration.
Okay, so some of this might have been hormones, feeling like I would burst into ash if he didn't fuck me soon.
But Inuyasha never made me wait, lifting me up and off the counter to take us to the shower. My shorts were wet inside and now out as he held us under the spray. Pressing me against the wall of the shower now. His long, hard cock rubbed painfully against me and I could take no more, pushing him back. My shorts and panties almost hit the tiled floor before my feet, if that were physically possible.
I was spun less than a heartbeat after, my hands on the tile before me as Inuyasha bent me over and thrusted in. His pelvis was flush with my ass in an instant and I cried hard, arching my back to give him more of myself. He was slapping my ass with his hips, the sound echoing off the walls as were my cries. I listened intently, wanting to hear his grunts and groans in kind. They were loud and made me swell with pride. I loved making him lose his mind.
An arm wrapped around my ribs, pulling me upright while another lifted my legs. Now, both hands were under my thighs, bouncing me. My hands-free and my legs held apart, I reached down and rubbed my clit, a loud groan from Inuyasha in appreciation when the action had me tightening around him.
My head fell back on his shoulder, calling out his name in reverence as I came. He was slow to stop, lowering my legs back to the ground but not pulling out, not yet. His body was wrapped around me, arms around my ribs that I held in place while his chest covered my back. His head on my shoulder, he had his lips pressed to my ear, whispering so he could save his breath as much as possible.
"I know you might be mad… but I never cared about protection with you. I wanted you almost all my life. And I wanted a family with you just as long."
I patted his arms around me. "If it ever bothered me, I would have said so long ago."
"Then why do you always hide it from me? Were you scared?" I slowly nodded. "Each time?"
"I didn't know what to say with Moroha. We were just… I thought we were just fucking. That I was your slave. With Sota… well, not telling you worked out so well the first time. I was going to tell you about this one but then you told me about your wife…"
"Ex-wife."
"It just didn't seem like the time…"
"You didn't want me to know. Either of the times. But I guess that was my fault." His hold tightened a little, running a hand over my belly that was still too flat to notice. "Will you tell me next time? Before you're months along?"
"Next time?!"
He pressed a hard kiss to my neck and pulled out, spinning me in his hold so he could press an equally hard kiss to my lips. I ran my hands through his remaining hair, acclimating myself to the new length. It was different, one of the many changes that were coming our way. But we would be facing them all together.
And I was happy.
oOo
Taking a break, I sat at the table assigned for the bridal party and watched the crowd around me. Mostly, I watched Kagome as she went around from friend to friend, letting them congratulate her and then sticking around for a few more moments to talk and laugh.
God, she was beautiful. And mine, the gold band I twisted on my finger only a symbol that I felt we really didn't need. But we both wanted it.
Moroha was dancing with a few other kids she invited from her class. She was just as beautiful as her mother even with my hair. Sota was getting another piece of cake and little Haori was currently getting bounced on my lap. She really did look like her mother, big teal eyes that stared up at me with wonder as dark curls framed her round face. I quickly wiped her chin of drool for the thousandth time in what was a losing battle. Poor baby was teething, which was why I let her gum my finger, a few small sharp teeth just starting to peek out and pressing into my bone from time to time.
Kagome's eyes found mine, catching me staring but I didn't care, she was glowing with happiness. I felt no shame in watching my new bride sway her way to us, Haori holding out her hands for her mother to take her as soon as Kagome was near. Now on her mother's hip, she gurgled a 'mama' and I watched from my seat in awe.
I was so damn happy I could die.
"I think I should put this one to bed soon."
Her eyes on Haori's face, I watched as Kagome cooed towards the toddler. "You going to cave and just nurse her to sleep? I don't blame you but you'll never get her weaned if you..."
"I wasn't talking about the baby." She said with a smirk that she soon turned towards me. "I've been ready to leave this place since we got here."
I chuckled, even as I got hard from her words and my imagination. "Funny, I've been ready for a week now."
Her smirk turned into a grin at that, "And now tonight is going to be special."
"Kagome, it would have been special regardless. Forget what you in that dress is doing to me, you pledged your life to me today, of course, I'm going to go crazy. But we'll be high in the sky tonight."
She shrugged, turning her attention back to Haori. "I don't regret my choice. The week apart made this feel more real."
"And how did you find it? Living on your own with the kids?"
Her smile faltered for a second but shook it away quickly. "Well, that wasn't fun. They missed you a lot."
There was sadness in her tone so I jumped to my feet and wrapped my arms around the two of them. "They still saw me every day. And even Moroha was clever enough to force you to see me this week."
I was laughing but Kagome wasn't pleased. "I probably should have just brought us all home after that. Kinda defeats the purpose of not seeing one another until the wedding if I have to go into your office in the middle of it."
"Do you know how hard it was not to bend you over my desk when you walked in? I didn't get any work done before or after you left. I was thinking about it so much!" Her cheeks turned a slight pink at that. I loved how she still blushed when I talked dirty to her. "It doesn't matter now, Kagome. The week is over. We're married and will never be apart again."
"None of us," she cooed to the baby, "even Haori missed her Daddy."
"And I missed her," I said, leaning over and giving the baby a kiss.
Then I leaned down and gave my wife one. Seconds away from reaching down the front of her dress and grabbing a breast, the crowd burst into applause, reminding me we weren't alone. Even though I felt like I was always alone with Kagome, her putting me in a bubble that made it easy to forget the outside world.
I released her, the crowd clapping for our kiss when we hadn't done it for them, not at all. Out of my stupor, I quickly found my other children, Moroha still with her friends while Sota had returned to the seat next to my vacated one, shoveling in cake. The kid was going through a growth spurt and was always eating these days.
Kagome released a frustrated sigh, shaking with her need as I was. I couldn't help but grin. She was the one who wanted a week apart before the wedding, taking the kids with her to stay in Sango's old apartment. So, it was her own fault really and I just had to laugh as she shifted her weight and it wasn't to accommodate the baby on her hip.
"You guys dropped your stuff back at the house, right?"
"Yes. We're all ready to go as soon as we are released."
I chuckled again, making it sound like a prison sentence. "We could leave anytime we want, it's our reception."
She glanced around and then back at me. "I am feeling a bit… tired."
I caught on quick, "Oh yeah, so tired."
I had my arms around her again, praying people didn't applaud us again just for touching. Kagome was so far gone, she moaned when I squeezed her hip. "Inuyasha…"
Just to be a dick, I leaned in and nipped her neck. She gasped and for a second, I worried she'd drop the baby. Instead, she reached around and grabbed my cock through my slacks. Now I was the one moaning and it wasn't nearly as soft as Kagome's had been. Shit, I wanted her but that was nothing new. My desire and need for Kagome would never change or falter. If there was one thing I had learned all these years, it was that.
I carefully pulled her hand away after I let her stroke me a few times because fuck it felt good. "We should go say our goodbyes."
I could care less about letting people know we were leaving. But the kids needed to get ready, Moroha telling her friends bye and Sota washing his sugar covered face. He had a few friends here too that he left to find. Kagome went around, Haori on her hip, and hugged each person she came across. I went to the one person that I truly liked the most.
Helping greatly in putting Naraku away for seven consecutive life sentences, he was my best friend. "Well, we're off."
He turned long black ponytail currently in the hands and mouth of his six-month-old, the youngest. The twins had to be around here somewhere. "Already? Party is just getting started."
"Yeah, well, there's another party I'd much rather be attending, currently, in my pants."
Miroku chuckled, shaking his head, "I don't blame you. If Sango cut me off for a week… actually she's done that a few times and it's not fun."
"Kagome never cuts me off. Not like this."
His free hand clapped my shoulder, "You're a lucky man, my friend. Not many would have a situation like yours turn out so well."
"My situation…"
"I was there remember? Did you think I missed your 'purchase'? You must think I'm a terrible detective…"
"I just thought you were a better one, focusing on the case instead of the auction like I was."
The smile Miroku wore was broad, "Thanks. The highest of compliments coming from you." He took a step closer and leaned in to whisper. "While I have you, I thought you'd like to know that Interpol arrested Kikyo last night."
"What?! On what charge?"
"Drugs. Turns out, without Naraku backing her, she's a terrible drug mule."
I shook my head, "I still can't believe the two of them were… well, it makes sense and it doesn't. How else would Kikyo have known to look into me when she hadn't given a shit in years?"
"And then know to send Kagome to Naraku. Did you ever figure out you gave you up?"
I laughed but it was hollow. "Yeah, it was Moroha actually. Phone records showed Kikyo calling the house a few times over the years when I wasn't home. Sota was too young and Kagome never answered the phone. When Moroha was three, she had a fascination with anything that made a noise. She used to steal my cell phone all the time and play with it. Best I can figure, she answered Kikyo's calls a few times and talked to a stranger just like any other kid her age would, babbling on about her life and family."
"And then Kikyo set up that 'sale' with Naraku…"
"I'll get in contact with Interpol when we get back, set up a few more charges for Kikyo like kidnapping. And endangering a child, she scared the shit out of Sota. I couldn't get him out of the closet for hours!"
Rage swelled in me at the memory but I forced a few deep breaths to calm down. Today wasn't about this, it was a happy day.
I glanced around at my family, the four of them slowly coming together. Moroha played sweetly with Haori while Sota held tight to his mother. Such a beautiful family, it was hard to believe they were mine sometimes and this was one of those times.
Now instead of anger, I was fighting back joy because I was close to tears.
The crowd was sending us off, finally free as the sun slipped below the horizon. A quick change of clothes and we were off again, all of us on our way to the airport. The kids were all sound asleep by the time we were in the air. Which allowed me and my wife to slip off to the small bedroom inside the private plane. A wedding gift from Sesshomaru, allowing us to use his. It was a bad look, the DA using a known mobster's plane but I would regret it later. Now I was busy being balls deep in Kagome, pressing a hand to her mouth to muffle her so she didn't wake the kids.
She was so fucking wet, I struggled to contain myself, nearly coming as soon as my tip hit her womb. We weren't naked in case one of the kids woke up but we were on the bed, allowing me to hold her tight to me. Moroha and Sota had their own room at the hotel so once Haori was asleep, I would pound our naked flesh together hard every night on this honeymoon/vacation. That allowed me to be okay with the clothes between us now, her panties the only thing fully off our bodies while my shorts and briefs wrapped around my knees.
God bless nursing bras, pulling her stretchy neckline down and unhooking the cup of her bra like a pro. I had to move the pad she had pressed to her nipple for leaks but I didn't care, this was far from the first time we fucked hard enough to make her milk-filled breasts leak a little.
Careful not to suck, I got as much of her mound in my mouth and licked, tasting a little of her milk. Extra sensitive, she threw her head back but must have bitten her lip to keep from crying out like she normally would.
Her hands were around my head, digging into the short strands I now rocked, and trying to tug. Two years and she still hadn't gotten used to my shorter hairstyle. I was pretty sure it was her way of telling me to grow it back out.
Didn't stop either of us from coming. Fast and hard, it had been a week, she moaned out my name as quietly as possible. I watched for a moment as her eyes rolled back and her mouth parted wide before I lost myself and my load.
Panting, we held each other tight, knowing we would have to get our asses back out front in a minute. Kagome took less than that, pulling from my hold and picking her panties off the floor. "How… many children do you want?"
The question threw me. It wasn't the first time we had this conversation but I had a habit of keeping my answers vague. "Shit, I don't know. A bit early for that isn't it? We haven't even gotten to the honeymoon yet…"
"I'm serious. Because you keep coming inside me with no protection between us…"
"I didn't think it bothered you. You said you would tell me if it did…"
"I'm just getting a little tired of getting knocked up all the time. I feel like a baby factory!"
The moment of euphoria, finally having sex, was over so I pulled my pants back up and got off my ass. "Alright, fine. I'll start pulling out until you go on birth control.."
"Why do I have to go on birth control? Why don't you use condoms?"
"Seriously?"
"What?"
"Condoms suck! You can't feel shit!"
Her arms crossed over her chest. For some reason, she was now in a pissed off mood. "I wouldn't know. We've never used them!"
Well, shit I walked right into that one. "I'm going to need a drink if we're going to continue this conversation," I said, rubbing my temples as I passed.
She grabbed me before I got far, remorse on her face. "I'm sorry. A few hours in and we're already fighting."
"We're far more than a few hours in, Baby." She kissed my cheek and then walked before me. I followed her, forever her lap puppy. "If you want me to wear a condom, I will…"
"There's no point now."
"I meant next time…"
"No, I mean… I'm pregnant."
Shock didn't even cover it. I was lucky my ass landed in a chair instead of the floor. "I'm never going to be able to retire." Her mouth twisted into a frown and I hopped up to grab her hard. "I'm kidding! How far along are you? Two months? I'm surprised you lasted a week, it's far more impressive now…"
"I took the test yesterday." A smile, I was unable to contain, slowly broke out on my face. "You said you wanted to know. But I honestly didn't think we would have any more. Not this soon, I'm still weaning Haori off!"
She was flustered, spiraling quickly and I had to hold her up from the floor. "Baby, it's fine. So we're having another kid, more to love."
"I don't think I want more to love."
"Don't say that you're just in shock."
She shook all over and I had to tighten my hold again. "Three is already a lot. Four sounds like… death. Death of my body, our time, rest, and our sex life."
"Hey hey hey, our sex life will survive everything. I'm sure of that. You being pregnant again proves it."
"I just kinda thought… we'd take some time. Be a married couple. But that was a ridiculous thought anyway, we're not a normal married couple."
I got her into a seat just as we hit some turbulence. Her nails dug into my skin, reminding me that this was also her first time in an airplane. Once our world stopped shaking, her head flopped to the side, looking at me. I did the same.
"You know that... no matter what happens, I got you Kagome Tenoe?"
A tired smile stretched on her mouth, closing her eyes. I took in her beautiful, slumbering face for the thousandth time, knowing I would never tire of it or find it any less stunning. "I know. You always have my back. Always."
"Always."
The End
Sorry if I had you worried there! I kinda like doing that, messing with my readers lol. Happy ending though! In more than one way!
Thanks again @inukag-week! This was the best week writing challenge I’ve been apart of.

Hello Ciule and welcome to Behind the Quill, thank-you for sitting down with us for a chat.
SS/HG readers might be familiar with your stories “Awkward” and “Headmaster’s Wife”.
Okay, let’s jump right in. What's the story behind your pen name? Well, I sort of took one of my real names, swirled the letters around in the air with my imaginary wand, and I ended up with this. Can’t begin to imagine where I got the idea from... ;-) Later on, I realized that Ciule is actually a name in Romania. I had no idea, but there are people out there carrying this name for real. I guess I’m #sorrynotsorry?   Which Harry Potter character do you identify with the most? To be quite frank: No one, really. This is more about the characters I like, than truly identifying with them. I can relate to parts of some of them, but not the whole package. Primarily, I write about Hermione, Voldemort and Severus, and the one common thread between those three is the search for knowledge. That’s a trait I can identify with, but I’m neither an evil bastard, a grumpy protector nor a fretting, intelligent activist. I am, however, a swot. If you had asked who I’d want to be, the answer is clear. I want to be Albus Dumbledore. Though I can’t agree with the things he did, I feel absolutely certain that he’s the one who has the most fun during the books. I want to have that twinkling fun in face of absolute chaos.   Do you have a favourite genre to read (not in fic, just in general)? Fantasy! Definitely fantasy. While growing up, I read ‘everything’ in every genre, and in my twenties, I decided I’d spend my time reading what I loved the most. So, fantasy it is. Do you have a favourite "classic" novel? You landed me in an existential crisis right there. I mean, there’s so many to choose from! ‘Wuthering Heights’, I think. It hurts so good. Or maybe ‘Rebecca’, at least, I loved that when I was younger. Or the fairly obscure ‘Lorna Doone.’ When I was a kid, I wanted to be a film director, shooting Lorna Doone into an epic film. Oh well, there might be a theme in this selection of books which reflects in my writing… At what age did you start writing? The creative process has gone on since forever. I’ve told myself thousands of stories in my head, but rarely written anything down. At the age of ten, I had a co-writing project with one of my friends. We created this secret room in her basement, and painstakingly wrote a ‘novel’. It was fun, though the writing ended as it became too cold down in the basement during winter. How did you get into writing fanfiction? In 2009, I became completely obsessed with a TV-show in the last episode. I was watching the entire series, casually enjoying the murder mystery, and in the last episode, the villain said: “I can do the math,” and I was literally gone. That obsession sparked writing my first fanfic stories. Those stories are still on FFnet, but they aren’t any good. *shrugs* What's the best theme you've ever come across in a fic? Is it a theme represented in your own works? Compromise. The world isn’t a perfect place, and will never be. You can, however, make it more to your liking. It may not be perfect, but if you play the cards you are dealt, you might improve something. In Robert Jordan’s “the Wheel of Time”-series, one of the characters goes through a test in a parallel universe of sorts, and she thinks: “The world was not what she wanted, not anywhere near it.” I loved that: trying your best to make things as you want them to be in the face of dangers and difficulties.   And then there’s time travel! I love messing with time, and there are so many great Time-travelling fics. Plus, I have to say I have a certain love for the villains...   What fandoms are you involved in other than Harry Potter? Currently, I’m not writing for any other fandoms. I read Star Wars, GoT, POTO and LOTR, and in the past I read Smallville. Though it’s more of a type of ship for me, because I only read Reylo, SanSan, Erik/ Christine, Lex/Lana and ….drum roll… the extremely small and quite oddball ship of Eowyn/ Grìma Wormtongue. If you’ve never tried the last one, go search for the fantastic stories by auri_mynonys. If you could make one change to canon, what would it be? Do you have a favourite piece of fanon? One change: duh, that’s easy, isn’t it? Severus lives. Or, maybe Dumbledore acting more rational, not keeping so many secrets. Maybe telling McGonagall that Severus is on the Order’s side… (Interviewer is laughing - ”NOT so easy”) I do write Voldemort wins AUs, but I wouldn’t want canon Voldemort to win. I prefer him to be more sane than in canon. My absolute favourite piece of fanon has to be the Black library. I thought it was canon, but it’s not. This is a thing that really, really should exist in canon! Do you listen to music when you write or do you prefer quiet? I’m very much inspired by music, and sometimes I listen as I write, but not always. Some fics are heavily inspired by music, such as ‘Absence’ and the last epilogue to ‘The Manipulation of Time and Matter’. What are your favourite fanfictions of all time? Definitely ‘Two Steps from Hell,’ by the amazing Ssserpensssotia, but that’s a Volmione. This was such a wild ride, I felt like I was on the edge of my seat, holding my breath the entire time. Those twists and turns were so unpredictable and … Well, I’m in awe. The SS/HG fandom is so massive, there’s a plethora of great stories out there. The unfinished ‘Self-Slain Gods on Strange Altars’ is a wonderful story by scumblackentropy, and I love Slytherpoufs stories, especially the wip ‘Ghosts’, but also ‘Angels to Fly’. And then there’s the one that got away - it means, I can’t find it. In this story, Severus watches the thestrals, befriending one of them, I think, but they’re unpredictable and maybe even dangerous. He’s heartbroken, and knows how it all will go down, having bitterly accepted his role. It made me cry. And then there’s the works by Aurette, and lena1987, Subversa, Kittenshift… Are you a plotter or a pantser? How does that affect your writing process? I need (strike that: want) to draft the entire story before I post, to have some idea on how it goes. That makes it easier to write, but if it’s a long story, I’m happy as long as I know the general direction. This year, I finished a story that was on an unintended hiatus for two years, and I think part of my problem on getting back into writing it up was a too vague idea for the ending.   What is your writing genre of choice? Uh. I don’t know? Basically, you could argue that I’m a porn writer, or at least it’s fuelled by sexual tension and angst. So, romance or drama, bordering on erotica might be correct. To be frank, I haven’t really thought about categories after I started posting on AO3. Which of your stories are you most proud of? Why? Hard to say. I might go with “the Manipulation of Time and Matter,” because I think it’s the best plot I’ve created. Besides, I managed to write Hermione having a relationship with both Severus and Voldemort in the same fic. My favourite “clean” SSHG would be the short story ‘Grimmauld’. Did it unfold as you imagined it or did you find the unexpected cropped up as you wrote? What did you learn from writing it? In Grimmauld, the house became a character. That was unexpected, and not something I had planned from the beginning. So the lesson would be “don’t start posting until you know what’s going to happen.” Or else, this story might have turned out very much different. I had to throw in a little made-up lore on how you set blood wards on a house too to make it sentient. That proved to be a quite chilling piece of magic.   How personal is the story to you, and do you think that made it harder or easier to write? I love old houses. Exploring abandoned houses, going inside to see what remains of furniture, tapestries and everything is so exciting. (It can also be dangerous, but that’s another matter). Such houses makes me feel .. nostalgic, plus I get those nice little shivers down your spine that is a little like a horror story. So, I wanted to use Grimmauld as a setting to explore that in a fic, to really dig into the aching loneliness of a lost house. The story came very quickly to me, so I guess that helped me.   What books or authors have influenced you? How do you think that shows in your writing? Big question there. Hmm, I think … it’s hard to say. I’m a reader, really, and I couldn’t easily pick apart any influences. Though I have to say that one of the things I enjoyed when reading ‘Two Steps From Hell’ was the attention to magic. I think it’s important to include spells, rituals and the use of magic in my fics, because that’s what sets it apart from a Muggle AU, for example. That’s an important part of the world-building.   Do people in your everyday life know you write fanfiction? My significant other knows. I didn’t tell him, but he found out for himself, probably by spying on me. When he told me, I almost couldn’t stop laughing, because he… erm, he said he had thought about reenacting a scene in my PWP ‘Twenty Points to Gryffindor’, where Severus shouts the title as he… well… you get the gist. If he had done that, I’d have had a heart attack. I would literally be dead. Instead, I laughed non stop for an hour.   How true for you is the notion of "writing for yourself"? Haha, so true. You spend all those hours in front of your laptop - and if I wasn't motivated by doing it for myself, I can’t even see how I’d force myself through all those hours. It’s fun, though. I do this because I love it.   How important is it for you to interact with your audience? How do you engage with them? Just at the point of publishing? Through social media? Very important. I'm on the publishing sites (visible interaction is why I prefer AO3 instead of FFnet) and on Facebook, mainly. I love feedback (as all authors do), and when people form theories or make comments, I get an insight into my own writing. I know how it’s going to pan out, but the audience doesn’t, and how they perceive things might be different from how I think it is. At times, it influences how I go forward, mostly because I need to add things, to explain what’s going on. What is the best advice you've received about writing? Don’t post until you know the ending, and remember: the devil on your left shoulder will be at war with the angel on the right side. Listen to the angel telling you to wait a little longer, and not to the devil chanting: ‘Post, post, post!’ In the end, of course, you’ll give in to the devil, regretting it until you’re done. What do you do when you hit writer's block? Read. Read a lot. And read some more. Has anything in real life trickled down into your writing? Certainly. I’m a foodie. For example, everything that Voldemort eats is stuff I love. His food habits are primarily mine, and I love cooking.   Do you have any stories in the works? Can you give us a teaser? It’s a short piece, maybe three or four chapters, with the title ‘Transference’. The point of departure from canon is during their time in the tent at DH. Hermione wakes up in a bed, in a room she doesn’t recognize, having no idea where she is, but she spots a large, moving picture on the drawer:  Feeling panic rising, she stared hard at the moving and smiling pictures, and her heart leapt into her throat, pulse hammering as she recognized herself in the largest picture. A slightly older Hermione, in a white wedding dress, kissing and laughing at someone who simply had to be a much younger Severus Snape. It had to be him: Long black hair, hooked nose, sallow skin - but then he looked so young, carefree and happy - expressions she had never seen on her dour Professor's face. Beside the picture, there were numerous cards, greetings and well-wishings for their wedding - the date an impossible 21 August 1982, and amongst the cards, the largest one stood out, the black ink showing an elegant handwriting: “Dear Hermione and Severus! Best wishes for your wedding, Lord Voldemort.” Any words of encouragement to other writers? Read and write, in that order. Don’t worry about trolls, because when you contribute something that you created, it makes you so much more than people spending their time just raining on anyone’s parade. You brought something new to the world, they’re just reacting to things. If someone accuses you of a self-insert, go ahead and lecture them on the intentional fallacy. I promise, you won’t regret looking it up. ;-)   And please, mind the normal physical limits when you’re writing smut. Unless you give the male a stamina potion or put him under the Imperius, it’s unlikely that his refractory period allows him to come five times in one hour. Realistic smut is so much more sexy, lol. Thanks again for speaking with us Ciule.

What do you mean you are going to meet up with him today?!" a loud voice could be heard through the phone. It was, of course, Bree who was shocked at what her friend was telling her. What bothered her more was the fact that Arabella did not even try to let her know DAYS AGO about this. She was one hundred percent approving him by any sort, she noticed from the start that he was Arabella's type and she was clearly into him. "And you did not even bother to tell me?" she whined like a little child while running around her flat. "I am so so sorry, Bree! I-" she stopped mid-sentence to catch her breath before unlocking the grey door in her place. "I literally forgot to tell you when I came over. I am really sorry, please forgive me!" she apologetically said, throwing her bag somewhere around her couch. She ran from work because she was going to be late for her meet-up with Alexander. She could have taken her car that morning, but she forgot she had plans and did not think, not even for a second, that her work program won't align with her plans and she was risking running late.
"We spent almost two days together, Arabella!" she snapped back right off to her friend that was heavily breathing, almost chocking on the last quantity of air she could breathe. "We were high for almost two fucking days, Bree!" she reacted with her last drop of energy leaving her body.
Bree mumbled something for herself, probably some curse words for Arabella she couldn't say over the phone because it was unfair to curse her when she was actually right. Arabella put her phone on speaker after she texted Alex her address so he can come to pick her up at the time they set. Then, the chaos has begun. "Can you please yell at me later and help me think about what I should wear?" she begged for her friend's help since she was completely lost. She was looking at her wardrobe and it was like the clothes looked back at her, not knowing what to do. Bree began to explain the weather to her to help her out a bit. It was not cold considering that it was the middle of the warmest season, but at night there's still a little cold because of the breeze.
"Did he tell you where he will take you?" she asked, the answer coming right away not helping at all. "He told me he wants to surprise me" Bree could hold back her giggle. Arabella was on the edge of a crisis, but Bree's dirty mind could not chill for a second. "BREE, WE ARE NOT GOING TO HIS PLACE TO HAVE SEX, COME TO YOUR MIND".
"Okay, okay... Damn, you said you were not going to catch feelings for ~a boy you met at a random bar~, ain't it? What about your black jeans? They really make your legs look good." she was really testing Arabella's nerves, especially pointing out her body AND saying a lot of pointless things. She wasn't catching feeling, neither was she looking forward to doing it. She was just stressing out so much because it was the first time in months she was going to hang out with someone new, who was not one of Bree's lover boys. Plus, they were going to be alone God knows where. Also, she did not want to look like a complete tosser in front of a lush man. "I am not catching feelings for anyone. And what should I wear with those jeans?" That's how their conversations go all the time. They are most likely to talk about multiple things at the same time, chiefly if one of them is in a hurry. They chatted for a little bit more and Arabella finally chose something to wear, matching a sheer top with the jeans Bree was talking about.
She was going to bring one of her black jean jackets because that sheer top wasn't going to keep her warm at all. She brushed her hair and went ran her hands through it to give it a bit of shape, painted her lips with a bit of burgundy lipstick. Her makeup was already done since she did it in the morning. Even if it was a bit smudgy, she couldn't care less. When her phone indicated that she received a new text message, she told her friend in haste that she had to go and hung up the call. She took her perfume out of the bag she threw earlier and on her way to the door, she sprayed some onto her neck. She put it back in the bag, grabbed her jacket and ran out the door, after locking the door.
Alexander was waiting for her in front of the building she described through the phone. He had his glasses on, as usual, looking around him at people passing by his car trying to figure if he knows anyone. In about five minutes, he glanced at his right and saw her walk over to his car through his window. A small grin found it's way to his lips, altering into a real smile when she opened the door. "Hello, darlin'!" his greeting makes her smile bit. She looked like she ran for a marathon but still managed to look fit.
"Someone's feeling good tonight, I see" without even saying Hi, she started teasing him for smiling. She found it really cute for Mr. Mysterious to smile right away when he was always trying to keep on a straight face to impress. "It's a special occasion, take advantage of it" he softly laughs, driving toward the location he was talking about. "You look brilliant tonight" he adds, looking away from her.
She giggles, making herself comfortable in her seat right next to him. She could sense the strong scent of musk from his probably expensive cologne. It was something about men wearing cologne, or just taking care of themselves in general. It was truly odd to be attracted to the way someone is smelling, but for some reason, men really know what cologne to wear in order to attract women. "Your smile looks beautiful tonight". He gave her a short look, then rolling back his eyes. They were both really comfortable around each other as if it wasn't their first time going out all by themselves.
After about ten minutes of small talks and humming together along with the music that was playing on the radio that night, Arabella decided to ask where they were heading to, but unfortunately, he refused to answer. She noticed that they were on the road that leads to the outskirts of the town. She hasn't been on that side of the town for a long time. She didn't even know what could be so special about the place they were going to that made Turner shut his mouth about it.
"Oh. come on! Why won't you just tell me? If it is somewhere eccentric, you could at least tell me so I know what to expect" she whined, looking out her window at the sun as it was slowly disappearing into the green hills that could be seen in the distance. "Have you never experienced a surprise in your life, Arabella?" His tone hinted at the joke he tried to make, and she understood it. She never actually encountered a real surprise, but she was happy to do it now. She decided not to say anything about it and just start singing, smiling at him. It was still warm outside, maybe around 73 degrees.
As they were going uphill to a look-out place Alex knew about, they could see their city slowly lighting up. It was a big, busy city that actually never slept as the myths say. Seeing how the day-life was switching for he night-life felt like they were teenagers again and they would just now go out with their mates. Faster than she thought, Alex stopped the car in the middle of nowhere.
She turned over to face him and he had a smirk on his smile, gesturing with his head that they had to get out of the car. She did as he suggested and studied everything she was seeing with the two green eyes she had. Alex grabbed her by the arm and pulled her with him to the spot he already knew it was best. He had a few things in his other hand, he came prepared. He let go of her arm and as she was admiring the view, he sat down on the grass, handing out a can of soda to the woman next to him.
She was so impressed by the view that she did not even notice Alex's hand. He snapped his fingers, bringing her back to the world they lived in. "I suppose you relish it here?" he was anxious she would just put it up front. "I love it here!" she cheerfully exclaimed as she sat down right next to him, grabbing her soda. "What made you bring me up here?" the question made him think for a little. He did not really think in particular of a reason to bring her up here, he just felt like that was the best place for them to hang out.
To offer her an answer, he also asked "Don't you ever want to escape and run away? I guess this was in my mind. It is peaceful up here. I often come here to cool my mind when everything seems too stressful. So I wanted to bring you with me." She was really pleased with what he was saying, also flattered.
He was indeed hiding a lot, and for her to be able to discover a teeny-tiny was really something she was looking forward and she clearly did not expect it to happen so soon. She appreciated the vulnerable side of the people surrounding her. Well, that once surrounded her. As she distanced herself from them, she didn't really saw that side of them anymore. The only one she keeps seeing is obviously Bree, and she would not trade her for the world.
"To be honest with you, I always think about running away. But I cannot leave my life behind. I worked too hard on this crap to just let it get lost" Bringing a cigarette out of one of her pockets, she brought her knees closer to her chest, admiring the wonderful view in front of her. He was starring at her eyes and he compared them to a galaxy. The lights from the city could be seen in her eyes, making them sparkle. She handed her pack over to him, leaving him with a confused look on his pretty face.
"Didn't you say you wanted to try these?". When they spoke over the phone in the middle of a night, he mentioned those organic cigarettes that she keeps smoking. He laughed and grabbed one with his lips as his hands were busy opening the can. They both lighted them, sitting in silence for a moment before Alex could go on with the conversation.
"Why would you be so scared to leave this damn place? It's filthy in here" as if he actually meant it, he looked directly in her eyes, analyzing her eyeful face. "You know, I would have said this too a year ago, and I thought I might want to say it now again. But I have the minimum I need to survive. Even more than that. I am free to do what I want, to hang out with who I want and I have the best human by my side. I think the only thing I want to escape now is my feelings."
"Do you think it is good for your mental health to just run away from your feelings?" he asks right away, and Arabella answers just as fast saying "But do you think it is healthy for you to run away from everything? It's pure death" Alex just nodded, trying not to think about it so much.
In order not to make the rest of the night a bit awkward, he started asking a lot of questions so he can get to know her better. He asked her about her work and about her past workplaces, then they started to talk about the future. Probably these were the best questions to ask someone in pursuance of getting to know him\her better. People tend to answer these questions sincerely, nut trying to lie about things they would want to do or pursue. When Arabella noticed how she was the only one answering questions, she returned Alex's inquiry. "How do you want to spend the rest of your life, Alexander?" The way she spelled his name sounded like music to his years.
"I just want to settle down, work from home, but not at some big company. Or maybe the big company could be one of the options, but only if I don't have to spend the whole day working. I want to live without fear or regret. To have my own house, that I designed myself, and I want to share it with someone special. Until then, I want to live as if I am 18 again. I just want to drink when I want, run for no reason, laugh all the time, tell stories, create my own, work on music, smoke, go out, traveling... All of that stuff, you know what I am talking about. " He sighed, lighting another cigarette, this time one of his own. He moved his eyes back to the view that sat still in front of him, waiting for a reaction of some sort. Maybe he seemed crazy, opening up to someone this fast, but he felt like she was not going to tell anyone anything.
"Mind if I join your life adventures?"
