I just want to share something and hopefully offer some hope.

For a lot of trauma survivors, they feel dirty. They feel like they can’t get clean no matter what. They feel like they can’t wash off what was done to them. I was one of them. The keyword being was.

I don’t feel dirty anymore. It took me a long time but I’ve realized that no matter what someone did to me, it doesn’t make me dirty.

What I’m trying to say is… there’s hope. There is so much hope. It can get better.

1. Natal Chart Observations

1. Libra Moon: decision paralysis that comes from feeling two contradicting ways about an issue. “I want my cake but I want to eat it too.” I feel like libra moons are the most sentimental of the air moon signs. Libra moons can constantly weigh out the pros and cons for every emotion you feel. “I want to do this but I don’t want to deal with how messy it’ll make things.” When libra moons are feeling a little lost, they can over-schedule themselves and their commitments to friends to avoid thinking about overly-vulnerable feelings. There is zero tolerance for imbalance in relationships. Poor behavior from a partner will be met with matched behavior to tip the scales back to a balanced one, even if the overall locational of the scale is descending into negativity. “You get what you give” mentality. Libra moons can be keen on the idea of karma. “Come to me with sweetness, or don’t come to me at all.” Daydreaming about romance is a relaxing way to pass time. Before maturity, libra moons might suffer from social anxieties when they find themselves in group settings where there isn’t a cohesive vibe. If someone around a libra moon doesn’t look like they are having a good time, it subconsciously makes it difficult for a libra moon to relax. The libra moon will then play the role of a diplomat or host/hostess to ensure the vibes equalize to restore their peace.

2. Mars in the 10th house: these natives are always making money. They are known for their side hustles too. They are always looking for new ways to make money and I feel like they are good at getting clientele. They will get their hands dirty for their job. For a man, this can point to a “blue collar ‘manly’ job.” I noticed 10H mars can be pretty generous with their money and services, but feel extremely terrible about getting help from others. If these natives aren’t confident where they are in their career or skill set(s), I noticed that they are likely to undersell themselves or undercharge for their services/time. It can also point to people in the workplace as perceiving the 10H mars person to be brash and outspoken. The authority figures in their career can feel a sense of competition with the 10H mars person, or wants to humble them in some way. I feel like it’s really easy for them to get good jobs or climb up the ladder when they do things the right way. They get impatient when they aren’t growing in their careers as fast as they want to. “Why am I not a millionaire yet.” They work hard for what they want and are very ambitious once they find their niche. I feel like these are often people who can find jobs that don’t necessarily need a degree. Their career mistakes feel explosive. They can be seen as “sharks” in their fields because they go in for the attack. They like to be the best and the most competent at what they do, and want their colleagues to see them as competition. “I’m the best and no one will tell me otherwise.” They can be known for being assertive and extremely determined in meeting their goals. They will work themselves to the core and utilize all their energy towards elevating themselves career and reputation wise.

3. Mars in the 1st House: These people might often be noticed for their bodies. They might be seen as someone you shouldn’t mess around with. They look athletic. Maybe they are known for fitness or for being athletic. These natives can be associated with the military, and probably look incredible in their uniforms. This is a man-eater or womanizer placement, for sure. “I get what I want when I want it.” They look like they have a rough exterior, even if they are sweethearts. They can be into martial arts. Commanding presence. They can make wonderful personal trainers. Regardless of gender, they can come off as being comfortable with their masculine energy. Reds look great on them. They might have thick eyebrows and a nice jawline. They look attractive when they are angry. They know how to make someone feel sexy. They have people chasing them or falling for them fast.

4. Pisces and 12th house placements: these people have no problem ghosting you. Pisces placements and 12H placements are always made out to be innocent and naive, but they are attracted to people and situations that have something a little “bad” about them. Savior complex. They can go through feelings where they feel detached from social settings and those they love, where they cannot fully escape the role of observer. They will always be able to fully escape into their internal landscape and get consumed by it— but it seems as though no matter how hard they try, they can’t have that same presence in the material world. This can lead to frustrating feelings of disconnection from the world and people around them. They can be smiling and staring off, but you will never fully know what they are thinking. They can make people really curious about them, because their thoughts always catch you off guard. Having an existential crisis on the daily. Casual things might have a bigger internal meaning to them that others might not always understand. We can find plenty of people attractive, but if the spark isn’t felt in the soul and doesn’t pique a deep curiosity, we will get bored and swim away. Liking people who are a bit “mean and dark” but wanting them to be sweet and soft with you. Using music to paint your daydreams, or to escape. Finding music that relates almost entirely to whatever they have on their mind feels like striking gold. They can like someone just for having the same interests as them. Feeling like a ghost in a flesh suit. Enigmatic. Can embody different vibes and personas depending on who they are around. They are sensitive and can adapt to the situations at hand. Too much self awareness can lock them in their heads. “I only jump into waters with the depth of an abyss.” Laying down for hours just to daydream and process your thoughts. Long baths feel like therapy. Moderation isn’t in our vocabulary. We love what we like, and we want to get lost in what we love. Not being able to properly process your day or interactions until you’re alone and can replay them in isolation.

5. Taurus Placements: I noticed Taurus moon women get spoiled financially by their partners. The type for their partners to say “don’t worry, I’ll work and you can be at home,” or that being their partners goal at a point. I noticed Taurus placements can enjoy the occasional shoplifting. They are not going to compromise their comfort, and if you come after that it will be met with intense stubbornness. They can seem nonchalant about a lot of things, but can be extremely unwavering in their opinions on certain things. In some cases, they can have strange eating habits or relationship to food. Thankfully, the Tauruses I’ve been around don’t project that on those around them. It’s more internal from what I’ve noticed, and they can enjoy feeding those they love and care for. They can have great taste in food. They love sensual vices and sex. They look great with pearls. They master an aesthetic and can stick to it. They are fiercely protective of those they love. They can be lazy at their worst and will not want to do anything that requires too much effort. They can be impressively good at couponing. Making money from home is the ideal setup for them. They will spoil their loved ones too, and can be great gift givers. They don’t cheap out with presents for their loved ones. They get much enjoyment from decorating their spaces and hosting their loved ones. They can be prone to overthinking and some may obsessive behaviors or crippling anxiety as well. They can honestly make the best scammers, as terrible as that sounds. They can sell someone a dream and make it sound beautiful, but can be lying through their teeth. Their jealousies can sometimes come from a place of vanity. Watch out for envying others, and appreciate your own beauty. They can focus so much on the beauty around them they forget about their own. They can be the image of beauty and grace, or strive deeply for that. They have pretty and soothing voices. Taurus placements can easily be the funniest person you know when they are in a joyful mood. I also noticed Taurus placements are wonderful at finding vintage pieces and re-selling them!

Their love language: Physical Touch, Quality Time, Gift Giving, and Words of Affirmation (Pt. I here!)

Gift Giving

- Alright so, we all know that presence of Venture is a gift itself, they also love giving you other gifts. This love language is the most obvious one when it comes to Venture, they just love giving things to people.

- And, you being their number one you’re no exception, you get the most stuff in all honesty.

- The amount of rock kids you guys have alone tells all you need to know.

- Their gifts specifically either hold a lot of sentimental value, or they saw it and went, “Yeah, reader would like that.”

- They take mental note of everything you like, even the littlest of things, like if you walk past a shop and something catches your eye, something unnoticeable for most, but to them? They’ll come back later to see if they can get it for you.

- Overthinks about what to get you when it comes to special gifts for the holidays, with Valentine’s Day, the day dedicated to stuff like this being the perfect example.

- They just want to give you something that you like, what you’d get use from however you see fit, and something that signifies how much they care for you and that’s reasonably a very hard thing to do.

- But also, they love receiving stuff from you in return, they do not care what it is, but the idea of you taking time to get them something is just so wonderful to them.

- Though it’s definitely a bonus if it’s based on the things they like, for example, new expedition tools, camping gear, hell even their favorite ice cream.

- Eventually, it gets to a point where you guys have specific spots at your places dedicated to some of the various gifts you’ve gotten each other and it is honestly the best.

Words of Affirmation

- Another obvious one, they’re a naturally very positive person and they just love to encourage people (besides Mauga of course), so obviously wouldn’t be weird to have uplifting words being thrown at you by them.

- There’s the usual “You’re doing great!” And “Keep it up, you can do it!”, but the more personal words of affection like “You did so well, I’m so proud of you mi vida!” Is understandably reserved for you.

- They take pride in being your partner and they make that abundantly clear by their words, and doing it right back at them is a great way of shooting an arrow in their heart and a lovestruck giggle from them.

- They have so many pet names for you in both English and Spanish, switching from both languages interchangeably, sometimes if they’re feeling overly excited they even end up changing from one language to the other in one sentence alone.

- The pet names are: Mi corazón, Sweetness, Mi vida, Amor, Babe, and other affectionate and personalized things but these five are the most used.

- If you guys work together, whether it be at Overwatch or as a fellow archeologist, I think alongside being encouraging and supportive of you they like complimenting and flirting with you. Mostly because physical PDA isn’t the place for both, they make do with being with you and fawning over you lol.

- That and they just love talking to you and getting your honest reaction to their honey-coated words.

- They just say anything that comes to mind, they don't see the point of refraining from doing so after all.

- Again, love letters are a part of this, scribbling down what they're feeling at the moment, and by the time it's done it's like affectionate word vomit.

- It doesn't matter though, they mean well and it's usually the cutest shit ever.

(Alright!! Here we are, Sloane is really bringing something out of me that is hellbent on being consistent for once and I gotta say, I like it. Hope you guys do too.)

Hey, weird comparison might be a stretch

Okay angy-grrr (yes I’m name dropping you and I’m not sorry <3333) I think made a comment a while ago about how this whole thing between Afo and Yoichi felt incestual, and I’d be inclined to agree.

However, however however however, I do have a few bits of commentary on that sentiment. Specifically in relationships to this scene specifically.

And, alright, no this is not some bs like “pro incest” or whatever, you can talk about topics that are taboo and not necessarily agree with them. I understand that I’m a shipper but I’m inclined to follow my nose where it leads, and my nose says here. So.

We’ve established a lot that the kanji horikoshi used when Izuku says “Give him back!” Is very possessive. Like an ownership over an item.

Okay, because Izuku and afo share one very weird trait—possessiveness. And for literally a month I’ve written and rewritten a post about how I just can’t get behind the idea of Katsuki paralleling afo, because it just doesn’t fucking make sense.

What is it telling us? That Katsuki has become a better person? We already KNEW THAT. The Kudou parallel says something, it says that Katsuki rises ABOVE the fate of the OFA predecessor because he and Izuku accepted their hearts.

Not only that but what is it exactly that we’re paralleling? Afo is defined by ownership (an Izuku trait), an unreliable narrator (also an Izuku trait)—in my opinion, horikoshi isn’t that simply Willy Nilly about parallels. It’s not about shipping to me rn, I’m literally comparing him to Izuku and how Izuku obsesses over Katsuki, IT JUST DOESNT MAKE SENSE.

Besides, wouldn’t this parallel be made significantly earlier, when Katsuki was still acting like an asshole? The kudou parallel was made literally from the start of his introduction, just because he looked so much like him. We didn’t know why this was the case, theories were thrown, and we’re only being told NOW why this parallel exists. But it was built, very carefully, and served a purpose.

And, to add onto this parallel of at the very least afo and Izuku, the portal is very similar to the floating hand.

Especially with the reminder that Katsuki was taken away by dabis hand on his neck (hands always have symbolism in this series after all, it always has a purpose)

If someone, anyone really, could show me some genuine evidence of afo and Katsuki parallels that isn’t just “Katsuki was selfish about Izuku when they were younger” then by all means

But to me, along with the fact that Katsuki called himself IZUKUS NICKNAME, right before a chapter where afo talks about NAMING YOICHI, ummmmmmmm… I gotta say. Things ain’t looking so great in that evidence department. I guess you could argue that Katsuki did the same thing with deku, but deku hasn’t even been said these past few chapters and Kacchan has so????? Idk.

Anyway, this weird overly attached, incestual, codependent relationship is really fascinating to me. I’m not so inclined to say that Izuku and afo are the same since they very obviously aren’t, izuku is just toxic in his silly goofy ways, but I think it’s an interesting thing to point out.

It almost feels like a “fuck you” to people who have been saying Katsuki and Izuku act like brothers for years. Maybe like Horikoshi is saying, “well I guess if they’re brothers they’re incestual too :)”

And that’s gotta be the biggest power move I’ve ever seen. “Oh you wanna read this relationship in that light? How about I show you what that light would look like if it were true :)” AND LIKE. WOW.

I know anime is not new to incest, but I don’t think this is the “random incest for funsies” type of incest, I think this is the incest built off of actually talking about the taboo. The weird. The not so great things we’ve done as humanity, but that exist anyway. Because mha WANTS to talk about the taboo, things we find morally wrong and therefore don’t belong in our stories, but that just makes them all the more incomprehensible were it to be happen in the real world. Art is made to talk about the stories we wish remained unfinished.

Loving Yourself in manifestation

I, like most law of assumption content creators, preach self concept. I’ve talked in a previous post about what self concept is and little ways you can incorporate it into your daily life but today i want to emphasize the inner love and respect for yourself that manifestation both uses and heightens. (This is a bit of a ramble be aware)

in brief, since i have talked about it before, your dominant thoughts about yourself, what you are capable and deserving of, and how you see yourself in relation to others (all your self concept) reflect into the world around you (the 3D). Most of you should be familiar with this sentiment, it is a large part of LOA(ss) after all :3

This does not mean however, which the law of attraction community often misconstrue, that you have to feel good and amazing all the time. You do not have to be a ray of sunshine to manifest anything. You are allowed to have bad days, you are allowed to feel upset. The important part is that you KNOW you are a person worthy of respect, love and your desires.

something i love about law of assumption, is that many people come to this community and the law feeling lack - desperate for something or someone and believing they need it or them to be worthy, happy or even just okay. But with doing the techniques and really learning of the law, they create a good self concept and they realise their own worth and value.

Something i love about the law is the inner transformation you go through. Most people come to the law in a state of lack as they are desperate for someone or something and - though they may not realise it - believe this thing or person will make them worthy, happy or have value. Once they are introduced to self concept and really start applying it though, it really changes all of this: this feeling of inner fulfilment, happiness and worthiness just for being you! This feeling of content and happiness just for being me is unmatched, truly.

No person or thing is going to give you value, the only meaning or value assigned to anything is that which you give to it. And the person who deserves to be assigned the most value is YOU babe.

The neural pathways that we have built over time are mostly reflections of our societies’/community’s/family’s norms. Most societies preach being humble, not being overly optimistic, always looking for worst case scenario. As we grow up these dominant, core thoughts become reflected back to us. But, as put by bashar, this makes us belief thief’s. it’s silly but i think it’s important to learn that you do not have to hold on to anyone else’s beliefs. That which does not serve you, bye bye!

Of course i like to be humble, but i think it’s often pushed way further than that to not even believe in your own inherent worth in fear of being selfish. i choose to believe in my power, my looks, my personality and my worthiness. I am fully aware that i can have bad days and that things go wrong - and even though i’m sure i could manifest even this away, i prefer to live my life and have my world like this - but i refuse to have a mindset that always assumes the worst. after all, our assumptions reflect back in the 3D. You deserve to assume that things always work out for you and as you assume it so it shall be :)

quick side note, two affirmations that have really helped me to unlearn assuming the worst:

- All is well, all will be well

- Everything is always working out for me, no matter how it looks at any given point in time.

Okay, having discussed the importance of self concept and identifying with assumptions and beliefs that serve you, back to the main point of this sort of appreciation post. Though your journey may start from a state of lack, the change in self concept brings not only your manifestations but also so much happiness and fulfilment. Now this is gonna sound silly to longer time loa lovers as of course the whole point is to embody the state of wish fulfilled, and that’s gonna make you feel good, but i feel like many new manifestors - at least definitely me when i started - don’t realise the true fulfilment and happiness within yourself that this journey will give you.

What at first seems like a chore and silly little affirmations to get a goal, becomes little smiles throughout the day when i remember how happy i am to be me.

it is the greatest reward.

Alhaitham Autism Coding

One last post before I go to bed but idk something rubs me the wrong way about a Genshin AU I’ve been seeing lately, specifically a Haikaveh one. I think I’ve seen a couple of artists make it already and I can’t help but feel uncomfortable about it. This isn’t to diss them or anything like that, I was just thinking about it.

It’s the premise where Alhaitham is a robot and Kaveh is a human (usually his creator, but that’s not really relevant). And the root of my discomfort is that Alhaitham is immensely, immensely autistic coded. It really couldn’t be more canon unless Alhaitham had a voice line that said ‘I am autistic’ (except Genshin is a fantasy game so of course that sort of thing isn’t viable).

So why not? I know a lot of autistic people can often relate to feeling ‘inhuman’ but that often comes as a result of life-long isolation and outcasting, and I think to dehumanise Alhaitham in this way discredits his actual humanity, which is not lessened by him being autistic.

The Trope Talk: Robots (a video by Overly Sarcastic Productions) finally made me understand something that I hadn’t when I was younger; I was quite a big fan of Zane from Lego Ninjago (spoiler warning for that) and didn’t understand the sinking feeling in my gut when it was revealed that he was actually a robot, and not a human.

When you make something inhuman represent traits from a real group of humans, the inverse sentiment of comparing that group to being inhuman also exists, even if unintentional. This was explained in that video by OSP, (which is really worth a watch) and made me realise a lot of things about ‘coding’ in media,

When I saw Zane, I saw traits I could recognise in myself- being slightly stilted and awkward, having a monotone voice, not picking up on social cues, being gullible, etc. However, despite these traits and shortcomings, his friends still cared about him a lot, and he wasn’t treated any lesser for it. I had never seen a person in media like that before, who behaved like me, and it made me happy.

I think the revelation that he actually wasn’t a person upset me in a way I couldn’t figure out at the time, but it was the implication that people who behave like that can’t actually be people at all.

Although out of all the autistic archetypes in media, the male ‘savant’ is definitely pretty overplayed, but details like Alhaitham’s headphones portray sensory issues in a realistic and interesting manner, rather than just being hyper-intelligent without any deficits or difficulties.

Because as much as Alhaitham is a bit of a dickhead sometimes, he’s still quite important to me (and I’m sure a lot of other people) in what he represents, and how unlike a lot of other characters who are autistic-coded, he manages to retain these traits without losing his humanity. I do think it would be somewhat of a disservice to his character to strip him of it.

Savanaclaw 2

Summary: Your legs were too tired to climb up the stairs. So, you decided to lay on the couch, under an old blanket that reminded you of a song Crowley used to sing when you were smaller. And it seems Leona, Ruggie and Jack wanted to listen.

It was a blanket given to you as a gift. This fancy gold and silver thing. Rarely do you bring it out, if only to keep Crowley from being overly sappy, but you never had the heart to give it away. Even when you were in the worst of your apathetic episodes and had the blanket in your hand, you could never stuff it in a trash back and leave it for Vargas to pick up.

It’s a heavy blanket, the kind that rarely leaves air pockets when you draped it over yourself. It’s nice, and did wonders for you poor legs. Really, you were on your feet for too long. Oh well, it’s on you for taking a detour just to avoid a massive crowd. At least the couch is comfortable.

Worn as it was, the colors still remained vibrant to this day. You don’t know how Crowley finds these things. Actually, does he make them himself? You wouldn’t put it past him. Fickle minded he may be, his magic was something that reminded you of why people like him are so sought after.

It’s funny, how fiercely bitter you once were, intensely so that he gave you this blanket as an apology that he didn’t have to make. The fault was entirely on you.

Had I the heavens’ embroidered clothes,

He wasn’t a good singer, not at all.

Enwrought with golden and silver light,

And yet, this song, low and mellow as it tumbled from your lips…

I’d spread the cloths beneath your feet,

…it was the exact thing that made you feel better.

Before you could breathe for the next verse, a small weight settled itself right on your stomach. Leona stared at you with sleepy eyes, no annoyance to be found. Just mild interest. He chuffed before laying down with you.

“So, I’m your napping spot for the day, huh?”

However he didn’t go to sleep. He gazed at you, ears perked up high towards you.

With Leona taking the first step, Ruggie followed. Your stomach was claimed by Leona, but your chest was free and there he appeared in a gust of wind. He was curled up, pretending as though he was always there, but his ears were also turned to you.

“You too huh? Jack, you around here?”

And you were right on the money. Jack jumped over the arm of the couch and landed on your shoulder. He huffed, responding to you back before laying down himself. Unlike Ruggie, Jack was giving you a wide eyed look of expectation. His tail was lightly wagging, waiting for something.

The rest of the song, perhaps? Singing wasn’t something you did often, at least not before. You suppose it’s another new thing you did that they were interested in.

Well, what’s the harm in it? You can only hope Crowley suddenly doesn’t pop in. When he gets sentimental, you end up feeling off all day, like someone replaced your marrow with putty. Weird, squishy and just…mushy. It’s not a bad feeling, it’s just you get too much of it in one dose.

You’re not used to being sentimental…or emotionally vulnerable in general.

But, just this once, you’ll ignore that and just, sing.

She still loves him. He still trusts her.

"Miraculous" is one of my sources of inspiration that helped me through difficult times, opened up areas to explore (for example, 3D animation) and to the present day gives me emotions that provide me strength. I’m not afraid to state that my favorite pairing is Gabenath. Yes, I shouldn’t be scared or ashamed to talk about it, but many fans/viewers of the Miraculous react too aggressively to this couple and the characters separately. But I believe that everyone has the right to single out certain characters for themselves, be interested in them and analyze them, and therefore should not be subject to toxic statements from others. Why am I writing all this? Apparently, I still cannot understand and accept this dissonance in the relationship between Gabriel and Nathalie. So I'll try to explain to myself and, perhaps, to others, who were also, to put it mildly, shocked after what they saw in season 5.

At the beginning of season 5 we see changes in Gabriel's behavior. If previously the goal of the main antagonist was to bring a loved one back to life, now it is not. Nowadays, Gabriel is ruled by revenge, he craves to take revenge on Ladybug and Cat Noir for all the losses and humiliations. Now he only wants to defeat them. That is, his priority has changed, family is no longer in the first place. Nathalie, as practically always, came up with a win-win plan for him, but he missed this opportunity, preferring revenge.

Then Gabriel forbids his son to date the girl he really loves. And I don't understand why Gabriel made a contract with Mrs. Tsurugi for a dynastic marriage between Adrien and Kagami and why he couldn't terminate it? One gets the feeling that Tomoe Tsurugi dominates him, but why? Let's remember how determined she was to achieve the goal, not allowing Gabriel to be distracted by emotions: "You're forgetting my part of the deal, Gabriel-san. As always you're losing yourself in sentimental trifles. Our vision of the future is much bigger than that. We are connected just like our children. They were made for each other. And I will not tolerate another glitch in our plan!".

It's hard to believe that Gabriel would be so indifferent to his son's feelings and opinions, so I think the writers went too far here by making Gabriel overly cruel!

As season 5 progresses, the relationship between Gabriel and Nathalie is heating up, becoming tense. Nathalie does not support the direction of Gabriel's strategy in the fight for the miraculous and does not approve of his prohibitions towards Adrien. She's mad at Gabriel, but she doesn't stop worrying about him! I guess if Gabriel had changed his attitude towards Adrien's choice in love and refused the deal with Mrs. Tsurugi, then the relationship between Gabriel and Nathalie would have become warmer.

Now let's turn to the episode where Gabriel accuses Nathalie of betrayal, emphasizing that he suspected her of this from the moment she began to support Marinette and Adrien's relationship. Yes, since Gabriel follows Mrs. Tsurugi's agreement, he will not tolerate any interference. In addition, he is obsessed with bringing into reality their shared plan with Tomoe Tsurugi to capture the miraculous – “Perfect Alliance”. Gabriel realizes that now he really has no choice. Nathalie will soon leave them, and he, being with the cataclysm, will not live long. That is why he only needs time to change everything through desire. And he does not give up his goal of bringing his wife back to life.

But what do we see next? Despite the fact that he accused Nathalie of betrayal, he later retracted his words. This can be confirmed by remembering the dialogue between Marinette and Gabriel: "She was right. Adrien was not alone. He had Nathalie and me. I've ruined everything. Nathalie's about to disappear. And so am I. Adrien will have no one left".

After talking with Marinette, Gabriel realizes that both Emilie and Nathalie were right. He admits his mistakes towards Adrien, but he no longer has time to apologize. So he decides to change his desire: “There is only one thing I wish to change”. Gabriel realizes that he cannot live without Emilie and leaves with her. But he does not forget about Nathalie, giving her his life. Yes, he was never able to come to terms with the death of his wife, but he healed Nathalie because she was dear to him and Adrien. He loves his son and doesn’t want him to be left an orphan, all alone. Gabriel is devoted and sincerely trusts Nathalie.

more things I’ve been thinking about, really not trying to clog up the dash

truly sorry to be making so many posts about this but if you’ve been following for a hot minute you already know how much I enjoy them so I’ve been thinking a lot about this whole mess and just how so so so sad I feel for them. Like I can’t imagine what steven must be feeling seeing all that blatant racism directed at him all over a video company that he runs with his friends and he’s put so many of his own creative passion projects on a back burner just to keep them afloat and now having to find out that so many people hate him for it and think he’s the unnecessary third wheel and have just been waiting for a chance to unleash all of that hatred at him. And I’ve also been thinking about ryan a lot like out of the 3 of them he’s the one who’s most open about his mental health struggles and literally every year during making watcher he talks about how scared he is that people won’t like the things he makes and they’ll all turn on him and how worried he is that he’ll let down his friends who he convinced to start this business with him, and then to literally see so many people suddenly say that they don’t like anything he’s ever made at all at watcher and that he should’ve just stayed at buzzfeed making powerpoints, like his worst fear is literally coming to life around him. I really just feel so heartbroken for him.

Like I think the extremity of the internet reaction is due in a large part to the overly-familiar parasocial relationship a lot of fans have cultivated with them (partly under their own encouragement, but that’s thoughts I have for maybe a different time) that turned into this feeling of deeply personal betrayal, but it’s still baffling to me bc if you really did care for them enough to feel this betrayed, how could you also not feel any sympathy towards them? Like yeah obviously casual viewers never actually gave a shit about them as people and they’re showing that, but if you really were following them closely you should know all of this. It’s one thing to disagree with them, but how could you not feel any sympathy?

A common criticism I’m seeing is “they didn’t give any thought to their audience they didn’t think about how this would affect us and they didn’t care about our support or our feelings” and I think that sentiment is a normal human reaction sure, but I also think that in a creator/consumer (more like artist/viewer) relationship that really should go both ways. I think the “bullying works” jokes in this circumstance are tasteless bc it trivializes the feelings of real human people. This wasn’t getting neilman to make the gay angel/demon kiss, people were not just insulting the core of these guys’ livelihoods but publicly and loudly defaming their characters (and also coming after their families! like holy shit!). Like sure they broke trust with their audience that they will have to work to repair, but also the amount of confidence they’ll have to rebuild before they create anything new again… idk I don’t have a concise point I’m just trying to say that as someone who really supported and admired what they were doing I can’t help but feel really really sad for them. This must be so devastating

I have character development thoughts on Lee Yeon! Buckle up:

After finishing the first season, I thought to myself that all this trouble (Rang’s abandonment issues, Imugi, etc.) would have been avoided if Yeon had just followed his clear calling as a househusband instead of being a mountain god. This man just wanted to fall in love, keep house, and have little fox babies. Instead, for some reason, he was in charge of an entire territory. I figured it was a case of picking the wrong career and getting locked in, or maybe he was born to it somehow.

Yeon has been widely panned for abandoning his land and his brother for his love interest. While I think he certainly deserves some criticism, I’ve always given him more leeway for one specific reason: foxes mate for life. It’s true in nature, and they play it up for the gumiho mythology. When foxes pair up, they stick with their mate unconditionally. They live and die together. So while there was some degree of choice in Yeon leaving the mountain and Rang and going into Taluipa’s service, we’ll never know how much, because his nature would have compelled him to put his loyalty to Ah Eum above everything.

But now there’s another element at play: we’re getting to see how Yeon, and the others, became mountain gods. It turns out that they were handpicked as children. They were neither born to it, nor given the choice to pursue it. Based on their power, they were chosen by Taluipa to fill those roles. We even get a scene of them trying to run away from their training. And it’s clear that at least two of them were not truly suited to their jobs. Moo Yeong destroyed his entire forest (for some reason we don’t know yet), and was turned to stone as punishment. And Yeon was too sentimental, with a built-in romantic weakness due to his species, and he had the stunning misfortune of falling in love with a human. Hong Joo seems to have been up to the task, and the strongest of them all, but it cost her family their lives.

So now Yeon’s abandonment of his mountain makes more sense. It’s a job he never wanted in the first place, although he appears to have done his duty sufficiently for several centuries. But his powers are limited to his territory, and he doesn’t seem overly-enthusiastic about his position. And once he’s incentivized to leave it all behind, he does it without a second thought.

We’ve also learned that Yeon’s dad was abusive, not just absent. Yeon has that same edge of cruelty and aloofness that sometimes shows up, most notably toward his enemies and in a dilute form toward Rang. He was dedicated to raising Rang once he was in his care, but his initial meeting with his surprise sibling, just a child, was very “God helps those who help themselves”. Presumably, that’s the message he got from his father. Ironically, he now seems to have some grasp of attachment theory, as we see when he’s taking charge of Mi Ho. He wants her to feel security, security he likely did not receive from his father and was ultimately unable to give to Rang. Although he fucked up with his brother, he did manage to do better than their father ever did, and has learned a lot from his mistakes.

I’m really excited that we’re getting more development for Yeon’s character this season. I’m also wondering if his dad is still alive; we’ve never been told he died, and since the season is very centered on the brothers’ relationship…

Hello! I’ve recently discovered your account and you are definitely one of my favorite writers for the op fandom, and possibly in terms of general fanfiction as well. I’m a BIG fan of fictional language exploration, so you having written several works on the topic was a big treat for me :) BUT I also love the way you write the characters, so I was curious: do you have any thoughts on Rosinante and Sengoku’s relationship? I’ve been kind of thinking lately that Sengoku might have a sort of idealised view of him - saying that your son, a literal spy, has never lied to you is a pretty bold claim, all in all, especially considering how (outwardly, at least) Rosinante didn’t seem to lose much sleep above going with the high treason option. In any case, thank you for writing such great stories, and hope you have a nice day :)

Sengoku and Rosinante's relationship is absolutely fascinating to me. And I think in Sengoku's case he's got a very specific set of blinders in regards to Rosinante, but in a very aware sort of way.

Sengoku claims that Rosinante never lied to him except the once, and I doubt that's true just on principal. I think a better reading of the sentiment is that Rosinante only lied one time when it mattered.

He also claims that Rosinante had one of the strongest senses of justice of anyone he knew, and in the context of how the series and the marines in particular define the concept of 'justice,' that feels like a very particular word choice.

Sengoku's brand of justice is "Reigning Justice" which I've always interpreted to mean that justice should take precedent, or "reign," over all. However, it does not define what that justice is supposed to be, or if there's only one interpretation of it like Absolute Justice does. So I think when he said Rosinante had a sense of justice, he means that he had a very good idea of the rights and wrongs of the world and where the lines of society fall. Him telling that to Law in Dressrosa feels very much like him saying "he saw that the world had been unjust to you, and decided to try and mitigate that, if even a little bit."

For Sengoku, I think there's a very parental desire there to want to believe you were an unshakable guiding force in the mind of your child, and Rosinante going rogue requires him to question that. But because Rosinante dies, he's never going to have those questions truly answered. He can just speculate, and try and look for the same things his son saw, whether that be in the world or in a hurt kid.

(I also think that losing Rosinante embittered him a lot, leading to the sterner outlook we see pre-timeskip--he's much more laid back in flashback and post-timeskip, and unfortunately I think some of that might have contributed to him being overly callous on the matter of Ace).

BNHA 395 - Thoughts

I’m leaning towards liking this chapter, though probably for completely different reasons than the majority of fandom.

No, I don’t think it’s a good end to Toga’s character, but that’s fine because I don’t believe she’s dead or that’s even the point.

If she is, it will go down as a pathetic bury your gays ending for her, that I’ll hate even if I don’t particularly care about the ship itself.

What I liked about this chapter is that it feels like it’s going back towards the overall narrative direction.

I was not a fan of how “easy” Ochako got the saving of the hearts part (compared to everyone else’s efforts, it felt hugely unfair) - and for me it really cheapened their fight as it felt excessively sentimental (in the unearned sense) and melodramatic.

But the fact that Toga despite having been touched by Ochako’s acceptance is still suicidal and still doesn’t see a future for herself.

It brings to the surface the ultimate issue with saving the villains - that if their choice is death or prison, it makes it hard to de-escalate even if a connection is made.

So I’ve been thinking that maybe the point of this overly syrupy presentation is to paint a picture. Both to the fandom and to the public in story who are watching this unfold in real time through the news helicopters.

Two pretty girls connecting, saving each other, Toga who has been used already as propaganda by the PLF publicly sacrificing herself can be the human interest story that will change the public mood and make them open to the villain’s redemption.

Touya and Tomura couldn’t do this - they are not as sympathetic as a schoolgirl with the tragic vampire aesthetic.

So currently the world offers no alternative to the villains, but maybe a third way can become possible where redemption can be earned via good deeds (like how Toga could help out in hospitals rather than die or be locked away).

The second thing I liked was Hawks. I was looking forward most to his involvement in this storyline and I felt really let down when he seemingly had no role. However, seeing him also near suicidal, just accepting or even welcoming his fate was the kind of raw emotions I wanted from him.

He’s all alone now - having failed his goal, he lost his quirk, his idol rejoined his family. As the Twice clones are turning to dust, he doesn’t have to protect the fallen kids anymore, and Hawks puts down his sword and almost invites a last act of revenge.

But the narrative doesn’t let Hawks die and I think it will be because he’s going to have to face himself as Keigo. Without quirk, without hero paraphernalia, without the family he invented for himself. He is symbolically stripped down to his core self and he will discover what he can do and what he is about.

the thing abt barricade discourse is that i’m not overly concerned w how louis feels about it or whether he likes it or not (i think sufficient evidence that he’s not too mad about clothes pulling, tho the choking of last yr is a different matter) but that prevalent ideas from last year were really awful and disgusting, i.e. that things louis said or wore counted as “asking for it” or replaced consent, and that by virtue of going to the barricade he was consenting to being choked, touched, have this clothes yanked at and ripped. OR that knowledge of what might happen also equaled consent. “he wore a button up he knows it’s gonna get ripped” doesn’t mean he wants it or is okay with it. u know?? thankfully, either by general change in attitude or simple unfollowing, i haven’t seen almost any of this sentiment this year.
