BKDK endgame theory
Another highly self-indulgent theory on how bkdk's gonna be endgame canonically
Disclaimer: Since I don't wanna jinx it or feel embarrassed for being so brazen about this mere silly thought of mine, I'll just keep this private until if things similar to what I've predicted became true. Otherwise, this will only be for my eyes alone. - edited 6 Nov 2023
Fuck all of that guess I'm just gonna put it out there and let y'all have fun as I embarrass myself. Just think it's all for lolz if none of these happen, at least I have fun writing to indulge my fantasy - edited 8 Nov 2023
So, what I think is that since hori's gonna keep giving us surprises and +u up his own game, my guess is that to clearly and subtly lock the pair without making it feel forced is to make bkdk make a promise to each other that hinted a lifelong warrant. Refer this to what toga said in her arc
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's not exactly a love confession, but what'll you feel if someone promise to dedicate their whole life in making you feel happiness, loved? I think that's love disguise in a glass case
So, how's this gonna parallel to our favourite dorks who're both so emotionally constipated and verbally poor at confessing?
Me thinks that, apparently when the boys were pushed to the extremes -- to the moment when there's literally no time affordable to think of anything else besides the most important thing they hold in their life, that the moment their body has to move on their own by instincts -- we'll finally get to see, bright as day, where their true feelings lay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As far as we've seen, it has been clearly revealed (except for those who're illiterate or in a dilemma of spiralling denial) that on katsuki's side, Izuku's the one constantly haunting his head for the rest of his 10+ years. He'd jump into battle with him, rush in front of him to avert the blow, fight in pain to stay relevant in izuku's battle -- to the point of fighting to his death to protect his seniors and to yet remain as izuku's image of victory... all these, to atone his mistakes in mistreating Izuku.
Throughout his character growth, Katsuki had been to the extremes. What are the most extreme situations if not death itself?
After that, however, we see katsuki came back with his heart fully open (pun definitely not intended!), feelings more outwardly shown, saying thanks sincerely without hiding behind his explosive demeanor, smiling straightforwardly at his favourite idol AM 🥺
Katsuki had met his breaking point, met death itself, and came back a new man. A man who wanted to change before everything was too late. As soon as he woke up, he didn't waste time hesitating to allow further regrets, showing gratitude and humility whole-heartedly in any instant he should've done like any decent human being would.
Except, there's still one thing he hadn't yet achieve to reach a complete circle for his narrative.
Tumblr media
Pre-war, Katsuki's biggest dread, the constant looming threat choking around his neck, was being unable to be honest and sincere to Izuku.
"But wait! He'd already stated his apology, he has no regrets left!"
Well, if you have that complain, you're not understanding katsuki well enough. Katsuki is a man of action more than his words. It's quite a common habit for Asians too to put more thoughts into action rather than just spewing beautiful words. And Katsuki, through and through, was an all-in-or-nothing kind of guy. He would never stop at just apologising. If his prior intention for reconciliation was to make himself feel better, then the integrity behind his actions and words was nullified, since that would undoubtedly negate the whole building up of his character's motivation. Moreover, it would become a huge flaw in horikoshi's writing as that would depict him in a "fake hero" spotlight as well as contradict the character's self incentive to be the bestest hero there is. I wouldn't bet hori would decide to ruin his writing like this. In fact, this is such a huge plot point for katsuki's character development that such a small blunder at this point would greatly affect the whole endgame story dynamic to his readers. Not that he'd care if he really did chose that path... I mean 🤷🏻‍♀️😬
Anyway, personality-wise, I'd say Katsuki would be the first person to hate that particular kind of people if he sees one. He'd definitely be disgusted of himself if he were one. That's why I wouldn't bet hori will make that blunder, because hori had been writing him as an incessantly growing character, relentlessly pushing his limits to be the best and always showed his results through visible actions.
So then, back to the point, what were left to do if he had already apologised? What more does he need to do then to further compensate?
:) As I've mentioned earlier, nothing beats the offer of a lifelong compensation, of devoting one's own time and energy willingly to the other as long as they need, or provide care and attention whenever they deserve.
"Wait. What does that even sound like tho? Doesn't that seem like a huge burden to bear??"
For Katsuki however, it's as per usual: all in or nothing!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A promise that hinted lifelong devotion though... That truly sounds like a heavy dedication to carry for the rest of one's life. Doesn't that kind of vow ring any bells? That's the only conclusion I could come to unfortunately. Because Katsuki is a perfectionist, he'll never aim at only atoning his mistakes for a "measly" 10-20 years.
But then, at what kind of situation he would promise a life-binding oath like that out of the ordinary?? Knowing our boys, there's no way they would open their ironclad mouths to say something as romantic as that out of the blue, right??
So here comes my prediction❗❗
📢 warning: take everything below with a grain of salt because at this point it's just me wildin' haha
Evidently, it's been awhile we're constantly warned about Izuku's lack-of-oxygen crisis. He was still fighting sAFO alone while Katsuki came back to focus on AFO himself.
There's a few ways things could go south from there. Afo could very well be dealt by Katsuki now with extra buffs(his new cluster moves), but Izuku was still in an unknown critical state. So while Katsuki busied himself distracting afo, Izuku could somehow got sucked into sAFO's vestige space in a moment's hesitation (or something happened that sucked him into vestige space). We might finally get our vestige space fight between Izuku and tenko & OFA vs AFO, or we could get a heartwarming talk no jutsu (as well as some sprinkle of action fights) between Izuku and Tenko. And all of these played out without the involvement of Katsuki -- as he's stuck in the physical world and is still dealing a rampaging afo. The dudebros would be happy about this. Finally they had a chance to laugh at us at being clowns for wanting katsuki's involvement in the vestige fight. But remember, hori is a troll through and through. He could troll us, he could troll the dudebros too. It's our temporary loss for not getting Katsuki fight beside izuku in afo vestige space, but we'll have something better later!
Because while all of those happen in the vestige space, apparently Tomura and Izuku's body will be out of it, falling to the ground and seemingly lifeless, out of consciousness to the eye of the people in the physical world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can imagine Katsuki having no time to spare while dealing with Afo as this happen. He's got to finish AFO first to get back to Izuku. And I promise you it'll not take too long for him to do that, 'cause it'll be a combo attack from IN and OUT as Izuku counter both Afo and tenko in the vestige space -- but it'll feel a bit longer in Izuku's pov as timeflow seems to be slightly different in there.
Anyhow, as Katsuki was done with afo, what do you think he'll react then when he reached a passed out Izuku? When he arrived to the scene of Izuku and Tenko on the ground, Izuku probably temporarily *not breathing* and motionless. *not breathing due to the setback of gearshift
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Katsuki will be shocked and traumatized. After spilling his heart out to win AFO with/for izuku, how could he stand to win the battle if Izuku wasn't there to claim victory alongside him? He would hold Izuku's hand and kept calling out to him (maybe angrily or threatening but the words are sweet and all of it are very contrasting?👀), calling for his soul to come back. Surely he would start crying and confess all his regrets even more too. *reminder: these are only possible because all his walls were finally broken down after his revival, he's a changed man in and out.*
Then, even better! When the medic units and probably some other heroes arrived to the scene, Katsuki suddenly realised he could give Izuku cpr! He'll do it himself and think it'll work since he learnt it from emergency treating lessons, and he didn't want Izuku to leave his side but also didn't want to do nothing to help Izuku recover.
See? Plus Ultra. Katsuki giving Izuku cpr y'all. Bkdk won. All these too in front of some witnesses and recording cameras. :)
And, yeah, cuz hori is a troll, katsuki's kiss of life actually wasn't the *sole* reason Izuku came to (all for the ambiguity too, ya know ;) and besides, hori likes trolling Katsuki too, not allowing him to get what he wants)-- it was all Izuku's well-deserved victory on defeating afo and saving tenko from the vestige space that allowed him to return to his own body after the vestige world close up. In fact, Izuku didn't actually need it, he was merely away from his body to fight in the vestige space for a bit; if he won, he would eventually come back and wake up by himself, the problem of hypoxia naturally dissolved along with it.
In another words, the "kiss" was just a bonus. It's a heartfelt gift from hori-sensei to his bkdk/grateful manga readers. Because in the end of the day, it's the promise between Izuku and Katsuki that wrapped the deal of bkdk being endgame canonically. For Hori, it's a win-win situation; he could have fun building suspense over his readers, as well as finally letting his favourite boys earn their long overdue peace to be together. Also, completing both protagonist and deuteragonist narrative foil as save to win, win to save. AND not making the whole scene romantically charged, as the reason behind their actions aren't out of sexual desire nor sexual attraction, since tHis Is sTilL JusT a shOuNen mAnGa afterall. Just "bros" devoting their life to each other and occasionally hold hands to get comfortable of each other's touch because they're practicing their next combo move. 😀

Hmm
We didn’t see her jump down after her speech, like a piece was missing. But, she’s taken that leap once more, because “I ain’t losing sight of you! Not again!”
Tumblr media
This also parallels her helping to save deku during his vigilante arc
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And also bakugou
Tumblr media
Which also parallels her wanting to talk about love
Tumblr media
God these two even have the same half smile. She just looks so much like bakugou in this panel, it’s uncanny.
I am in the minority when I say that I am both a bkdk and togachako shipper, I’m aware of this, but I don’t really think I SHOULD be the minority. Especially when all of this evidence is just sitting there in both of their respective parallels, basically yelling at us that, “Hey guys! They’re BOTH gay!”
Tumblr media
(Like, y’all, hori is basically saying “guys, cmon, idk how much more obvious I have to be”)
I feel it’s ignorant to ignore that, on either side. It’s extremely common to have bkdk shippers find ochako annoying or in the way, which is just so unbelievably infuriating to me. She’s still just a tool to show that bkdk are gonna happen, when she should be able to have her own storyline, her own love story, her own life! Funnily enough, her life is still made about Izuku even when in the context of bkdk.
And no, I’m not gonna shut up about togachako. Yes, there’s more than enough bkdk stuff I could talk about on this account, but in that case, WHOS going to talk about them? Their story? Their parallels? Their lives? That’s why I’m so adamant on hyper analyzing everything about them. There’s already crumbs for togachako I’m working with, bkdk have enough creators/theorists/fan content/analyzers, give them a chance.
So, here’s me haunting the bkdk tag again, and asking, begging! To give them a chance! I can’t change everyone’s minds, I can’t change years of misogyny in fandom, I can’t change you finding a woman annoying, I can’t. But I can try. I can try to bring attention to them and what they stand for.
If this provides you any appeal, they’re literally just bkdk but in a different font. They aren’t toxic, and if they WERE, they’d be the equivalent of an izu//ocha shipper saying that bkdk are toxic bc of middle school. They have development, toga is more than just a blood crazed monster, please, just hear me out. Give them room in this part of the fandom. They aren’t going anywhere, and they are literally the KEY to bkdk. In so many ways. God, so many.

On Mirio, and that thing he said:
Hori does this weird thing where he gives me reasons to bring up old topics I’ve rambled about in the past. I’ve literally written damn essays about the LOV and their issues as a group, and this chapter—though the moment itself was short—gave us a significant moment that brings up the League as a group.
Also side note before I get started—I’m basically indifferent to Mirio, but the sentiment behind his statement….genuinely makes me like him more.
I’ve talked about this before how the LOV and 1A foil each other, and gone on and on and on about how the LOV are all extremely tunnel visioned, but I’m gonna talk about it again because Mirio said what he said.
I’m not here to compare the two groups and say who is better yadda yadda—I personally feel the LOV are written and fleshed out ten times better than 1A, others feel the opposite, but that’s not the point of this post.
My thesis lol: The LOV are a strong group of people who all trust each other (sometimes to a fault!), 1A is a strong group of people who also trust each other. But one of these groups (1A) exposes the weaknesses/downfalls of the other (LOV).
The League is a broken group. While it may have seemed like they were on their shit and had it all figured out together as a unit after MVA and right before Jaku, I think the first war and then this entire final war literally from the get go up to now, are exposing that this wasn’t the case.
I mean let’s start with what the story is showing us—
The war starts and the League all got split up immediately. Now I know this could be viewed as a bad thing for them because “Oh no! They’re separated!” But ehhh—evidence tells us so far that, had they not been separated, well, their situation would still just be…awful lol. So them being separated is a good thing—not to the characters of course, but it’s good to the narrative.
So—the League is separated and they’re all going down their own destructive paths. And that’s what this was all gonna lead to—destruction and misery, and for some (one) of them, death.
The argument that they’d be happy as long as they got to destroy everything and still stick together…well that’s not really supported by anything we’ve seen so far—as they all have different “goals”, different wants and needs. None of which destruction was ever truly going to satisfy, for any of them. But we also know that they all do take each other into account, to some extent, when contemplating those goals. And like…Touya and Shouto’s encounter is a good testament to the necessity behind separating them for this war. And Toga’s and Shigaraki’s and even Spinner’s seems like it will bolster this as well. Eventually.
So now I’m gonna bring it back to this chapter and Mirio’s accusation of Shigaraki not having any friends.
WE know that’s not true, right? Shigaraki also knows that’s not true. So why does it strike a nerve—a nerve deep enough to somewhat shake TomuAFO’s consciousness and give Tomura the upper hand, even if only for a brief moment?
Well—it’s because of what Mirio said. “If you’d had friends, then you’d understand that there are things you can’t destroy.”
Now look, Mirio is a protagonist, and the framing of this scene indicates that you’re supposed to agree with what Mirio is saying.
So given that, we KNOW that, yes, Shigaraki has friends. So why is he still trying to destroy everything? Shigaraki contradicts himself, and in a way without knowing (because he knows nothing about Shigaraki)—Mirio is calling him out on it.
I said it here already but I’ll repeat it again—
Destroying everything means destroying even the things you might want to preserve. Destroying everything in order to get rid of the bad, also means destroying the good, the good that you cherish.
That’s what Mirio is saying. If Shigaraki had friends, then he’d understand that you can’t destroy everything, because naturally you want to preserve the things you cherish. So in Mirio’s eyes, Shigaraki has nothing to cherish.
So now that I’ve fleshed that out—I’m gonna get to my main point:
The LOV are friends. They care about each other, they trust each other. They’ve grown attached to each other’s company.
So why destroy everything? Well, this is where the LOV fall short as friends to each other. They don’t know anything about each other. They are all traumatized, they all have tunnel vision, and they all are angry and hurt, and reaching for answers no matter the cost. Compress even said it himself—they didn’t bother digging into each others’ pasts. But that’s exactly why they all don’t know what each other really wants and really needs. They all have individual mindsets right now—and none of those mindsets are supportive of each other. (Talked about there). And those individual mindsets have landed them in their current predicaments.
Because you know what? For all Shigaraki knows, what happened with Twice could have happened with Toga, Touya, or Spinner by now in this war. And he wouldn’t know. Touya was pretty much on his way to dying, after all. And Mirio saying this to Shigaraki is a wake up call that this destruction they are seeking led to this.
But there’s more to it than that. Shigaraki’s friends—again—all have different things they need and want. If he destroys everything, he destroys the things they need and want. He said he leaves room for his comrades’ wishes—but the reality is that within all that destruction he is seeking—the Todorokis, Ochacko, Tsuyu, and Midoriya would all have been caught up in that. In other words, any chance they all had at being saved, which the League wants deep down, would have been destroyed.
The thing about those people I listed is that those are the people who will (or already have, in Touya’s case) bring light to the darkness surrounding the LOV. They haven’t had the chance yet to do that, but Shigaraki’s (and the League’s) destruction would take away that opportunity entirely. And the League would stay broken, never healing.
That’s why Mirio’s statement is so important here. It calls him out on something important—if you have friends, then how can you truly destroy everything?
I brought up 1A at the beginning because they boost my point a little bit. The kids, as we’ve seen, are more open with each other. That was the entire point of the Stain arc, of the Kamino arc (Deku letting Kirishima be the one to reach out because he’s seen Bakugo and him), the retrieving Deku chapters, of the apology, and of the chapter where the kid trio spilled their true intentions and feelings with the villains. We see Bakugo’s internal growth toward his classmates after seeing the support they are all capable of lending each other. We DON’T see that same type of internal insight with the League. We see that they care, but the follow up on that has not landed them in any good situation—so far. It’s a flaw, and I think as a group they’ll overcome it closer toward the end, after they’ve gotten their heads cleared, after they can break out of their tunnel vision and see things clearer. After they’re all saved.
But yeah—Mirio’s statement builds off of a lot of League development and Mirio himself doesn’t even realize the weight behind his words lol.
This ended up longer than I wanted but it was necessary to get my point across lol.

Okay so this has been said 1000 times before probably, and i will say it again. Because its just been on my mind for a while. Horikoshi has done a good job at bringing into light the injustice and straight up occasional disregard for basic human rights that villains face when being "dealt with" by the heroes in MHA. We see it second-hand through the ideologies'/views and experiences of the league, stain , and other villains we've encountered throughout the story, and this was especially shone down upon in the Liberation War Arc.
What's been bugging me, though, the most really-- as we've seen the story progress from that arc and continue on up to this point; Is the question of like, whether or not Hori actually plans to maybe show us some repurcussion (ik its probably spelled wrong I KNOW.) As in, if he plans for anything to come out of this obvious issue, or if hes just going to go "shits fucked, oops" and not do shit about it. I mean dont get me wrong its his story hes free to do whatever technically but like
At this point, with dabi's capturing, twice's death, spinner probably losing idk im not super up to date, and like literally basically everything thats going on with shigs and midoriya and EVERY OTHER FUCKER. like lowkey i feel like everythings going to turn out like those rehab fanfics you see on wattpad where "everyone is good and happy and the todorokis reunited, shigaraki became the hero he always wanted to be, toga's quirk was turned off permanently ETC ETC" Like.
It feels like an excuse for the heroes to maintain the appearance of these demi god figures that are "holier than thou" that can do no harm and have come to rescue those "tainted" by like darkness or some bullshit. Like, nothings gonna change, it looks like?
I honestly, do want to see Dabi, and Shigaraki, and Toga, And Spinner (really the ENTIRE LEAGUE.) Be happy and healthy and live laugh love and all of that but
Not as some kind of plot device to further give depth or development to their respective hero counterparts
And plus. In some cases, (ahem-* dabi) it just. It doesnt even seem possible, much less realistic.
Like id love to see the two brothers interact, cause, its INTERESTING, and it would be nice to observe their dynamic outside of battle but like, for someone like DABI? WHO BUILT HIS ENTIRE PURPOSE AND LIFE around revenge against his father. ts so ingrained into him that to take that away from him in the form of rehab would probably be like ripping out a part of dabi, that part of him that practically is the foundation for who he is today, like DABI, the guy who "rose from touya's ashes' was literally birthed by the hatred and anger in touya, and your just going to take away his one dream. His plans after killing endeavor was to literally DIE, JUST DIE, AND THATS IT. DIE.
I just dont see how this "saving" theyre trying to do with the villains works out in anyone elses favour but their own. Id love to see me be proven an absolute idiot by horikoshi but also im just not holding my breath. Or maybe i am. Idk.  Its almost one in the morning ₩#¥#--(@ i would love to see a good ending for my babys thats written in a way that gives justice to their characters
Note: i will say, though, i probably would ignore everything said in this post if dabi ever got a happy ending, proudly an apologist (/HJ) i just want him to be happy in a healthy way and not in the "gonna kill my baby bro" kinda way for once holy shit

This is destroying me because this is a memory. This is Child Aoyama POV. This is him watching AFO smiling, placing his hand on his face (does it even have to be the face for the quirk to transfer?)
It’s just such terrifying imagery. This is a memory that looks like it haunts Aoyama
It’s the way that he remembers it and then instantly panics. He looks traumatised.
If we get a flashback of Aoyama receiving the quirk, actually watching as this strange man walks into the room and grins so wickedly at him, it’s gonna be awful. I wouldn’t put it past Hori to show us something like that
And all I can think about is the conditions Aoyama was put in when he got his quirk. Did he know beforehand or were his parents just like “yeah here’s a guy, he’s gonna give you a quirk”? Did Aoyama immediately think AFO was scary upon seeing him or was it just in that moment? Did it hurt? I should think not but it would also make sense for Aoyama to remember it as something terrifying
Perspective is everything in bnha, and for the kid to look back on a moment that should have been great, considering he really wanted to fit in, and see it as scary? For him to literally start panicking and cry even more? God...
It makes me think AFO put on the charm and smiled for the parents, then as he was about to transfer the quirk, a sickening smile spread across his face and it was only Aoyama that saw that horrible side of AFO. The one that took pleasure in using people for his own gain and collecting pawns
My mind is just kinda racing with questions about what it must have been like for Aoyama, but one thing is certain; this is a bad memory, and it seems to have deeply traumatised him
Ugh I just wanna hug him so bad. Fuck AFO honestly

hello mr simp do you have any thoughts on the leeks 👀
FIRST OF ALL. THEY CAME SO FUCKING EARLY??? BRO I WAS ASLEEP
SECOND OF ALL
holy SHIT YALL
Okay, it's no secret that I'm an All Might stan. I LOVE All Might. Very very much. Not just as a simp, but genuinely, I enjoy his character SO MUCH.
--And unlike what some people may think, I'm not totally blind to his flaws. I know he sucks as a mentor and that he's done way more harm to Deku than good. He's.... not perfect. in every sense of the word. The whole point of AM's character is that he is a DEEPLY FLAWED individual— but at the end of the day, still good.
Tumblr media
This new chapter gave me SOOO many new feelings. I'm not gonna lie to y'all and say I was a Stain apologist beforehand because I wasn't. I disliked Stain to a certain degree, but I also knew he was morally grey enough that I was able to still quite appreciate him as a character. This chapter was about EVERYTHING to me because I honestly did NOT expect Hori to go in this direction and for things to happen the way they did. It was too good to be true! Too fanfic-y! The disbelief I felt when I read what happened was on par with when Bakugou and Deku had that apology and kinda-hug in the rain!
But this disbelief is not because it was a bad thing.
I think the writing in Chapter 326 is phenomenal. The moment that All Might was really beginning to lose hope in not just himself as a hero, but himself as a PERSON... we finally hear the opinion of someone who would abso-fucking-LUTELY make or break the last of his spirit.
Tumblr media
Stain is, as much as his views are pretty agreeable and his label is that of a vigilante, still a pretty shitty guy. He's tried to kill literal kids who got in his way, even if said kids made pretty dumb decisions. AM hearing what he has to say is absolutely mind-boggling to him because he knows all of that. He knows Stain is a shitty person and that his worldview is perhaps terribly skewed. He knows Stain has spent a hot minute frying his brains down in Tartarus and isn't good at making judgment calls. Knows that for all intents and purposes, Stain's opinions are not to be trusted.
But the thing is... Toshinori also knows that Stain, regardless of the soundness of his mind, is telling the truth.
Regardless of how fucked-in-the-head Stain is, we as readers are able to acknowledge that he isn't blinded by hero worship. Sure, he's bitter, cynical, and quite the absolutist--but Stain is still clear-headed enough to be able to see AM's flaws for what they are and accept them, ultimately proving to Toshinori that the power of All Might was never his own but rather the legacy that he inspired.
Tumblr media
The society MHA takes place in is flawed. We all know this. Heroes, as a concept, had been corrupted into being purely about good and evil. Purely winning fights for money or fame or the abstract concept of victory (coughs Endeavor and the no.1 spot coughs), making heroism as we know it about flashiness and power instead of mercy and the desire to help others.
All Might symbolizes the ideal version of the Hero Society. He represents doing the best you can. Being a hero until you reach your limits, and then going even past that. He symbolizes pure intention and the desire to be a hero not for material gains but because of the pure want to make society a better and safer place. Stain refers to Kamino Ward and the statue as a "holy land" because he believes that through and through, AM's only had the purest of intentions and morals. To him, Toshinori was like a deity that had no fault in making society what it was in the present because that accountability fell on the generations of heroes that failed to fulfill his legacy.
The point being, Stain understood that All Might was fundamentally not about 'being there' for everyone 24/7, but rather the message his presence had sent.
All Might's monologue at the beginning of the chapter essentially boiled down to the ideas that:
A. He regrets not being there properly for Deku
B. His image was a delusion that ultimately led to the downfall of hero society.
To break this down, his problem with Deku is his inability to be a competent mentor. It shows that he has led him down dangerous and horrible paths (Deku's stubbornness to do things by himself and his 'dark' arc post-war), and is unable to bring him back into the light even if he tries. It was only when Class 1-A had intervened that they were able to get Deku to rest and let people tag along, after all, which is why Toshinori was far too embarrassed to follow him into UA's walls even after everyone had come out with umbrellas.
Tumblr media
Stain disproves this in two ways.
First, he says that it was never about All Might's ability to actually be there for people. The whole point of what inspired Deku to be the inherently good-hearted "true hero" he is today is because of the values that AM's brand had instilled in him as a child. AM's biggest positive impacts came from behind the screen where he was used as the proof that true heroes can and do exist. Deku does want to be exactly like All Might, yes, which is why we see Toshinori leading him down the same path that he walked--but the underlying message of this is that the very first thing All Might gave him even before OfA was the courage to help fix society.
I do believe Deku is an innately compassionate person. Most people in the series are. However, what makes All Might's smile so uniquely impactful to what it did to Hero Society is the way it gave people courage to help people. Less hesitation. Less bystander syndromes. The ability to move without thinking. Because you can feel the want to help a person, but the courage to be nosey and actually do it? That's portrayed as something AM's image teaches people.
The second way he disproves AM's insecurity of dragging Deku down is that he makes it clear that this pain is somewhat of a necessity in reforming society. He says, interestingly enough, that this is but the 'middle process' in reforming society. This spills over to how he addresses Problem B, but what Stain is essentially saying here is that this sort of brutality and isolation that Izuku faces is impermanent. A phase. It implies that even if Deku is struggling and Toshinori is unable to help him, it is something that needs to happen before they re-realize the ideal heroes All Might's image is meant to create.
Tumblr media
The second problem in regards to how All Might feels about current society (how it's collapsing because of him, etc. etc.) is more interestingly addressed. There are many things that Stain says--like how Toshinori doesn't need to actually be the one to fix society with his bare hands. The current society is not his fault because of the fact that it is not finished developing. I'm not sure if I can go so far as to say that Stain means this in the sense of the Scorched Earth method of tearing everything down to build it back up better-- but I can say that Stain still has faith in society to rebuild after this period of chaos.
This rebuilding starts with the old generation of heroes correcting what they messed up (i.e. Endeavor v Dabi) and more importantly, paving the way for a better generation of heroes that was inspired by All Might's image. Heroes that are led by people like Deku, who is defined by his proclivity to help without thinking. The violent deconstruction of society is about exposing society to the raw truth of All Might's image that not everybody can be as strong as him-- which is why we have to take care of each other.
When the lady comes in to remove the sign and start cleaning the statue, it's symbolic. It's a clear metaphor that the past few chapters are the turning point for society as a whole, and how people are starting to remember what real heroism is. From the distrust that was seeded in society ever since LoV had surfaced, we are seeing that trust being returned TEN-FOLD now that people can see not only the mask of a hero's smile, but also the person underneath.
Tumblr media
I think it's some really neat symbolism here too about how Deku, who's metal mouth guard was literally all about representing All Might's smile, is shed.
This is hero society dropping their masks. Letting people see them for as they are. Toshinori revisiting the statue in this form makes all the more impact because he shed his mask ages ago during the Kamino Bust, so this is him coming face to face with the image he's created and seeing the differences between them, and how his image continues to live on even after he's almost completely Quirkless. The lady cleaning the All Might statue shows off the fact that things can be repaired again--that society can be clean (hehe stain pun) again.
Tumblr media
It's interesting to me here how Stain offers the information from Tartarus.
He doesn't care anymore about his life. It's evident. He disagrees with what the LoV is doing, but believes enough in Deku to think that it's time for him to retire the mantle of 'Stain'. Unless this is another test, it's very odd for me to hear that Stain is offering a blade and his life to someone he isn't even sure is All Might.
But the impact of this action reads loud and clear.
This is Stain taking pity on All Might. This is him realizing that All Might too is a person behind the hero. That Toshinori Yagi is incapable of doing anything past the image he had already created. By offering that knife and information on Tartarus, Stain is giving control back to Toshinori. He is giving AM the chance to do something big again to help society's reconstruction. To be a part of the revolution that he so badly deserves to see. That knife is essentially an exit ticket from the sidelines, and one last chance for All Might to be able to see what his image has done for people.
I personally think that the main reason Stain is willing to die then and there by Toshinori's hand, despite not being sure that he is All Might to begin with, is because of the final impact it creates that it isn't about Toshinori Yagi's true power as a person, but the image of All Might. It is because he looks like the symbol of peace, that Stain (the literal HERO KILLER) feels comfortable laying his life in his hands and giving away valuable information.
If that isn't a great testament to the power of AM's image, I don't know WHAT is.
I guess all I have to say is I absolutely love what Stain did in this chapter. Everything felt so incredibly symbolic and emotional and as someone who absolutely ADORES All Might and what he stands for in the story, this felt like a cool balm after seeing Deku tragically reject his bento box a good few chapters ago. I have a few more opinions about symbolism, and how I think Deku's generation of heroes is going to stray from the old gen, but I think that's a discussion for another time.
Thanks for reading 'til the end!

Last chapter of this volume! Can’t believe we’re already through four volumes, and we’re not even done with the second full arc yet. I mean, later arcs are gonna be even longer, but like. Yeah.
[No. 35 - Battle On, Challengers!]
We move on to the next match - Kaminari versus Shiozaki! I’m actually kind of marveled that they were able to thaw out that entire glacier in any sort of timely manner. That’s quirks for you!
Present Mic announces Shiozaki as class 1b’s assassin, and also reveals that he apparently either doesn’t know the full quote for ‘every rose has its thorns’ or started to say it, only to realize she didn’t have roses and scrambled to compensate. Kaminari, meanwhile, gets announced as a ‘sparking, killing boy.’ Really kind of morbid on this round, huh?
Shiozaki turns around to object to Present Mic’s descriptor as an ‘assassin’, stating that she’s merely come this far seeking victory. Present Mic apologises, and Kaminari just kind of watches while admiring her. He takes notes of her eyes, and then thinks about how strong she is. He then sort of counters his previous admiration of strength by asking himself if he really has to hit someone so pretty with a full discharge, then concludes his ‘battle plan’ by determining that he’ll ask her out once all this is over.
Tumblr media
Present Mic starts the match while Shiozaki is still focused on talking to Mic - which means she’s facing away from Kaminari. Which is kind of a dick move on Mic’s part, but eh, I guess ‘heroes have to be ready for anything,’ yarda yarda etcetera.
Kaminari asks Shiozaki if she wants to grab something to eat when they’re done there, and that he’s happy to console her if she wants. She turns to stare at him in confusion, just in time to see him charging up his whole body with his quirk. Kaminari makes a quip about this match probably being over in an instant - and then we cut to the immediate aftermath, where Present Mic comments on how it’s already over while Kaminari wheys out in the grasp of Shiozaki’s vines. Shiozaki was both able to create a shield against the electricity and yank Kaminari into the air and away from her, thus causing him to short-circuit.
One on patrol, Mount Lady comments on Shiozaki being a promising one, and another plant user. Kamui Woods amits he wishes he could’ve seen her up close, but that they need to get back to work.
Back in the stadium, Midnight announces Shiozaki moving on to the second round. Shiozaki is relieved to have no wasted the opportunity bestowed upon her, and the narrative finally gives us an informational blurb on her quirk.
Tumblr media
...A strange ending note there, but sure. Some of the crowd - or possibly Izuku? Since he’s sinking into a muttering fest right after - comments on the ‘match’ and the participants. Shiozaki’s ability to use her quirk is something else, between building walls, binding enemies… Kaminari’s quirk was no use against her. She countered him well. He might’ve had a chance if he could maneuver better, but he panicked and short-circuited after one attack.
Ochako hears muttering besides her and is a bit alarmed, looking over to see Izuku in the middle of an analysis fugue. Izuku mutters about thinking Kaminari’s quirk would be stronger, but Shiozaki got fourth in the entrance exam, and she’s the real deal. The vine moves are similar to Kamui Wood’s binding attacks, and binding types are always strong, to the point where you almost never see someone break out. It’s pretty much impossible to dodge all the vine attacks, so the only counter is to rip them apart with brute strength - ah, but to prevent that, they tend to go for the hands first.
Tumblr media
(...and I just NOW realized that this specific commentary about binding-type quirks and the counter being brute strength is literally something that comes into play when Best Jeanist binds Gigantomachia with those steel cables during the Jakku arc. Holy shit, I don’t think Hori intended it, but what a callback. Or it’s just good worldbuilding, which would also be neat!)
Ochako eventually cuts into Izuku’s muttering - startling him in the process - by commenting on how his match just ended, but he’s already thinking ahead strategy-wise. Izuku denies it, saying that it’s just a hobby of his, and that they finally have a chance to see the quirks of people outside their class in action. He then eagerly shows her his open notebook, stating that he has everything she’d need to know about class A in there - even her ‘zero gravity’.
Me, staring down the people who have the class unaware of the contents of Izuku’s notebooks when writing suspected traitor fics:
Tumblr media
Anyways! Ochako is kind of impressed despite herself, stating that she thought Izuku was amazing from the day they met, but this sports festival has brought him to a whole other level. Izuku is confused by the complement, but there’s no time to ask, since Present Mic is announcing the participants of the next battle: Tenya versus Hatsume.
Some of the students are chattering about how the match is going to go, with one asking what is that - which seems to be referring to the support items Tenya is wearing? Midnight comments on it as well, noting that they’re forbidden for hero course students, and that a special request has to be put in for those things beforehand. Tenya admits he forgot, seeing as Aoyama was wearing that belt of his. Midnight reminds him that Aoyama applied for an exception.
Tenya apologies, stating that he’d been touched by Hatsuma’s sense of sportsmanship. Although she’s a member of the support course, she came to him and said that if they’re to be seen as equals, then they should fight on equal footing. She gave those items to him; her earnest spirit… he could never look down on it. That was his thinking.
Midnight apparently is now all for this, calling Tenya naive. Mic says that it’s good enough for him, and Aizawa says that if both parties are fine with it, he supposes it can be allowed… right? Izuku, up in the stands, is looking concerned, wondering if Hatsume is really the type to offer that. Hatsume, of course, is chuckling as she flips down a microphone right as the match starts.
Mei immediately starts going into her spiel, commenting on Tenya’s speed - much to the confusion of both Mic and Tenya. She then points out how Tenya’s legs should feel lighter than usual, and that that’s what one can expect with her custom leg parts, which keep up with their user’s speed! However, dodging is no problem for her with her hydraulic attachment bars! Which she deploys just before Tenya reaches her, causing him to trip over one of the bars and flail.
Mei checks for where the support companies were seated, her quirk zeroing in on the faces she’s looking for - which, to her pleasure, are eating her words up.
Tumblr media
Tenya catches himself and spins on his heels, wondering what she’s going. Hatsume complements it, noting how her auto-balancer makes those sorts of tight movements possible. Meanwhile, up in the announcement booth, Mic and Aizawa are both so put out, with Aizawa facepalming and calling her a born saleswoman.
The game of tag, along with a completely play-by-play sales pitch, goes on for another ten minutes. Eventually, however, Hatsume steps over the line, sweating but proud of managing to get through everything she wants to show off. Midnight states that Tenya’s moving on to the second round, while Tenya is just in despair at the deception.
Tumblr media
Ah, the face of someone with zero shame. Hatsume gives a completely insincere apology for using Tenya, which Tenya replies to by stating his extreme dislike of her.
Izuku is also a bit dismayed as he notes that Tenya is just too serious, so it wasn’t hard for her to get him to play her game, and that at least she’s honest about her under-handed methods to get what she wants. Ochako herself is looking a bit down as she gets up, quietly noting to Izuku that she should get to the prep room. Izuku notes that she left her still-full drink behind, glancing back to her in concern as she walks away.
As other matches run in the background, we shift over to prep room two, which Tenya is just entering. Ochako, already waiting in there, tells him good which, which startles him out of his funk as he recognizes her. Of course, the first thing he notes is her furrowed brows, which Ochako admits is probably from her being a bit nervous, and how it’s probably showing on her face. Tenya remembers her match is against Katsuki, and Ochako admits that she’s really scared. But, seeing Tenya out there, she…
Well, before she can finish her thought, Izuku bursts into the room. Ochako is confused, since he should be out there watching the other matches. Tenya to the side asks about the story behind the support girl. Izuku ignores the latter, telling Ochako that another two matches are already over, and now Kirishima and some class 1b guy are duking it out. Mina managed to damage Aoyama’s belt, he panicked, and she knocked him out with an uppercut to the chin. Then Tokoyami won his match in a flash - he didn’t give Momo the time to use the objects she made… he’s one of the strongest guys here in a one-on-one. Ochako realizes this means her match is up soon, her heart pounding in her chest.
Tenya can’t imagine that Katsuki would give it his explosive all against a female opponent, but Izuku cuts in, staring very firmly that Katsuki will. Everyone is competing here with the dream of becoming number one. No one’s holding back - Katsuki least of all. However, Ochako’s already helped Izuku so much, so he thought he might return the favor…
Tumblr media
He really just stores his notebooks anywhere he can. What a legend. He offers the notebook, stating that Ochako needs a counter-strategy against Katsuki - one that uses her quirk. He came up with it on the fly, but it might work! Tenya is relief, stating how fortunate Ochako is. Ochako thanks Izuku, but says that it’s okay. Both Izuku and Tenya are startled by the reply.
Ochako states how amazing Izuku is, and how he does amazing stuff all the time. During the cavalry battle, she thought the easiest strategy woul be to team up with friends. But when she thinks about it, she was just putting her faith in Izuku. That’s why Tenya said ‘I challenge you’ and all that, which left her feeling a little embarrassed about herself.
She pushes herself to her feet, moving past them to get to her match as she says thanks, but no thanks. Everyone here is fighting for their futures, so doesn’t that make them all rivals? That’s why she’ll see him in the finals!
Tumblr media
Ochako, sweetie…
Kirishima and Tetsutetsu knock each other out at the same time. Present Mic comments on the mirror image quirk matchup, and how the winner is… neither! They have a tie, since both are down. Midnight clarifies that in the event of a tie, they’ll determine the winner after the two recover, probably with an arm wrestling match or the like. The crowds comment on how they’re equal in strength, and how that was great though. They kind of hotbloodedness would be a great morale boost, and how they’re desirable as sidekicks.
Shouto watches on as the final two contestants of the first round enter the arena. Tsuyu states her worries about the match, and Jirou addson how she doesn’t want to watch it. Izuku quietly hopes for Ochako to do her best.
And so the final match is announced: Ochako versus Katsuki.
Tumblr media
And with that, volume four is done! Ill be getting up the character sheet first, and then digging into the bonus material. Hopefully y’all enjoy!

You’re so right my god. During the hawks-twice thing ppl were bringing up police violence in real life America and blm and it’s like??? This is real life where things are real and that is a shounen manga, set in not real JAPAN what are you doing?? And ppl just getting so angry over their own misinterpretation is one of my biggest issues in this fandom, I love meta and analysis but when a decent chunk of the fandom are so heavy into their headcanons and Aus when writing their meta, stuff on the actual text is so hard to find. Like I’m all for headcanons and stuff but whens there’s a such a big difference between what you want and what the manga is giving you, maybe this manga just isn’t for you?? Stop harassing ppl who don’t agree with you like they’re morally evil for it??
I’ve always avoided talking about these things because I just know no matter what i say, someone, somewhere, is gonna get mad, but I need to grow a spine.
Yeah there are parallels to real life issues like that in mha, such as how certain quirks get discriminated against, but comparing the incessant murder of innocent black people at the hands of police to the heroes trying to stop a terrorist group is…a choice.
Because i think what some people lose sight of is that, even if the LOV suffered a lot in their lives and they’re our little meow meows…they’re still…literal terrorists…
Hori even took the time to show us the absolute chaos of the aftermath of the first war.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If people say that this is in anyway comparable to black people just living their lives and getting killed, then i really don’t know what else i can tell you.
Twice certainly got the short end of the stick in all this, because him and Spinner are the ones who had the least bad intentions in all this imo. Twice was mentally ill and all he wanted was to belong and help, and I wish he would’ve lived. But at the same time, i also have to admit that if had unleashed his quirk, everything would be much worse, and his personal struggles don’t give him a pass to just kill so many people.
People blaming Hawks is kinda funny because it’s very clearly just biased, but i know my opinion will also seem biased as a Hawks stan lmao
Hawks was certainly being tone deaf with the way he was talking to Twice, but he didn’t want to kill him. If that were the case, he wouldn’t have spent all that precious time talking with him to try and get him to stand down. He would’ve just went in, killed him before Twice even knew he was being betrayed, and done.
I still love the LOV, because this is all just a story and i know LOV stans aren’t terrorists because that’d just be…incredibly stupid of me to think. People don’t need to like the heros, because they also aren’t without fault - nobody is, in this story - that’s the point.
I understand that these characters mean a lot to people and it must really suck having them be in a losing position from the get go because they’re the bad guys, I just wish people wouldn’t take that love to an unhealthy degree, because even if they don’t think so, fighting with people online and being so negative about a story is NOT good for your mental health.
With the headcanon thing, it’s a bit funnier. I remember seeing people get mad that Hawks didn’t turn into a villain, even though that was dispelled not long after the whole double agent thing was introduced, or some people say the writing is bad because Hori didn’t make Hawks and Dabi childhood friends which is just so funny to me because like…sis, YOU made that up. People spend so much time in their fandom bubble that they completely forget what actually happened in the story, which is fine, but don’t go around saying the writing is bad just because your headcanons conjured out of flimsy tidbits didn’t come true.
I just like when people are objective as possible when it comes to analysing the manga and its writing, and give a fair shot to both heroes and villains, despite who they might prefer, you know?

BNHA 328 - Thoughts
So apparently when Aizawa mentioned All Might visiting Stain back in Ch 257, Stain actually did not have any information, he just wanted to shake hands with his idol.  OK, then.
Hori loves Stain these days. At times when all our faves struggle to get little scraps of paneltime, it’s the second Stain-focused chapter. We didn’t need half a chapter to tell us that Stain took the “Black Box” of Tartarus from a dying prison guard (Meat Senpai’s dad maybe?) with the instructions to deliver it to someone true.
Still doesn’t explain why Stain didn’t deliver it to All Might on Bento-Day, and waited in fact possibly many days, to catch him moping in Kamino. And I still hate him for what he did to Iida’s brother and trying to kill Tenya.  But I guess he’s the heroes’ hero?
The good news in this chapter is that Tsukauchi is alive (he was in the hospital at the start of the Raid, after all), and exhaustion looks good on him. Also, apparently he’s been up-to-date with everything, including Deku ditching All Might and what not. (So after the Bento-gate, All Might came to Tsukauchi to rant about it?)
Stain’s Black Box gives us the info that ShigarAFO and AFO Senior communicated via a radiowave quirk they both possess, and I guess Shigaraki using the EMP during the attack meant they could both activate it at the same time. Great.
The Black Box also registered the message - 38 days to completion - and apparently as 35 days have passed (don’t get me started how this timeline pisses me off on behalf of class A - so they literally sat around the dorms for a full month moping, while the Great Deku-sama was off saving Japan all by his lonesome self????) since Tartarus breakout, that means only 3 day left until Tomura is complete.
I guess I should get all excited about this, and have a big freak-out, but this whole information has been delivered so conveniently, with no effort on the heroes’ part, that I tend to think it’s a fake-out or a trap. I feel like when I saw the explosion at AFO’s dacha.
Tomura’s body being completed could mean full possession or 100% - we don’t know. And just because the body is ready, it doesn’t mean an attack is imminent.
So anyway, major freak-out, All Might suddenly realizes that instead of delivering bento boxes, he could have mobilized an entire international super-squadron, made up of caricatures of their nationality. The international heroes all clamoring to go to help All Might, but it turns out AFO activated all the international villains to keep them busy, so the United Nations of Heroes United is having a big Zoom-meeting and faffing. At least the portrayal of international politics is depicted with accuracy.
No worries, because America’s No 1 hero, clad in flags and called Stars & Stripes in case we didn’t realize she’s American, is coming to the rescue. Standing on top of an airplane instead of sitting in it like a normal person.
She’s a blond version of HK’s favourite waifu-type, and is basically a gender-bent All Might. My excitement level about her is precisely 0. Apparently also, she’s a never before mentioned disciple of All Might.
I don’t know why, but I feel like she’s gonna be Tomura’s Nagant. A jobber called in to demonstrate his power-levels.
So this chapter didn’t do anything for me. I’m going to go back and look at Bath-Day art. See you next week.

So my partial prediction and partial wish for the next segment, and 1-A/Bakugou vs. Deku:
-Deku bolts. Obviously. He doesn't want to fight anyone, and probably knows that he can't hold out. He's so low on energy.
-The class tries to pursue and subdue him. We get several match ups, probably a lot of the class get small moments to have a quick opportunity to try fighting and reasoning with a very evasive Deku. They TRY to reach him with their words as they try to physically catch him.
-I expect a lot of good moment from this,
-Deku is literally using his Quirk just for evasion and putting as much distance as he can between them. He's careful about his output, knowing he's approaching his absolute limit. Maybe a lot of introspective voice about which Quirks he's using since he often narrates to us about that. If he has to physically fight someone off he uses a lot of restraint. Maybe someone like Sero for example, catches him, but he busts free.
-I imagine a lot of them may get a moment to shine, but he'll just barely be too slippery.
-He keeps dodging and flying and ducking across the city and resisting his classmates.
-Deku finally shakes most of them off. Flies high above where....MOST can't reach him.
-He's DONE, he can't muster his Quirks, his legs are shaking and his vision is blurring, this is it; he's finally at his limit. He's about ready to faint.
-and almost missing it from the ringing in his ears, he hears the sounds of explosions approaching.
-Katsuki skids to a stop on the roof top, and Izuku just can't even move, just barely stands, staring, and panting for air.
-Katsuki starts sassing him again, and this time Izuku sasses him back
- They start getting personal, probably yelling at one another
- Until it devolves into probably Katsuki grabbing him by the shirt and yelling about how worried sick he was(how they all were)
-suddenly all the floodgates for both of them open, and they finally air out some feelings.
-Katsuki shows him his shoulder "Did THIS mean nothing to you!?" Izuku finally breaks down and screams "IT MEANT EVERYTHING!! IT MEANT TOO MUCH!!" And finally spills just how much it scared him. How much he is traumatized now, not just to lose Katsuki, but anyone. It's exactly the reason why he has to leave. His eyes look like they're screaming for help.
- the "Katsuki is his weakness" conversation comes up
- Katsuki accepts Izuku's feelings(like deku did for him last time)
-Katsuki stresses that Izuku's not All Might. no one is, and no one should fight this kind of evil alone. Etc. Once again tells Deku to come home. He needs help.
-Izuku: "I can't" still resists. Katsuki: " Come home or I'll drag you home."
-Izuku: "Kacchan I--" Katsuki: "NO. I know what you're doing. I spent my whole fucking life trying to shut you out and pushing you away, and you refused to give up. Well guess what. Now I'm refusing to give up on you. "
-Izuku seems a little shocked.
-The class starts converging on them, not sure if they need to be ready to fight still.
-Katsuki, but much softer: "Our whole lives, I was wrong. I know the answer now. I'm not giving up on you. Izuku. But you gotta trust me too."
- Izuku's face reacts to Katsuki's words, but can barely muster out a "Kaccha--" before he finally falls over from exhaustion. Crumpling just in time for Katsuki to catch him. and the rest of the class to gather around, all relieved.
-Maybe iida and Ochako and the rest also chime in at this point, how they're all there for him, they all love him and will fight to protect him, and each other. And that he can trust them. They're behind him. This is what they've all trained for.
-Katsuki smirks down at him and says something like "Look, OFA-sama, looks like you have an army now." or "I'll bet you for damn sure none of the other OFA-samas had this many people in their corner," (using that goofy jab of a nickname he gave him earlier)
- Izuku finally gives in, begins crying again, and finally passes out.
-It's kind of unclear if he's been completely convinced, or if it was only a case of him being worn out at last by them. Either way, Katsuki picks him up and they begin heading back to UA.
---
Turned a little more of a fanfic towards the end, but basically this. Dialogue and details might be interchangeable with however Hori decides to do it, but the beats are what's important and what I'm predicting.
Basically want this to be the opportunity for that very dramatic talk that has been referenced since 285, a little taste of a verbal apology. And I kind of want something to really REACH Izuku just before he likely passes out, not just a case of Knock-out Drag-home.
I could be one hundred percent wrong. Either way, I am excited for whatever happens.
And I know that the talk is gonna happen, its gonna be now or its gonna be later...I wanna bank on NOW in this next segment, kinda like this, because I feel like it'd be the most dramatic and compelling at this point. Where it literally gets Izuku out of Rock Bottom to hear Katsuki's true feelings.

on the wonder duo (part 1)
(BNHA Analysis Post Ahead! This isn’t explicitly romantic, but it is an analysis of the relationship between the two most popular characters in BNHA--Katsuki Bakugou and Izuku Midoriya. Split into two posts because I realized that this was gonna be long as HELL)
yall ever think about the fact that the wonder duo is perfectly set up in so that bakugou and deku together are the better version of all might?
bc like. ive been thinking.
everyone knows the win to save and save to win parallel. How they are supposedly two halves of a whole perfect hero (which, previously, was defined as all might)
but ever since bakugou and deku started working as one—growing together to win AND save and continuously reminding each other that they shouldnt try to do things alone, ive realized that its BECAUSE theres two of them that they surpass all might. its not a case of deku and bakugou both being 50% of an ideal hero, but rather i think that they are 100% of what all might SHOULD HAVE BEEN from the very beginning.
as early as the AM v AFO battle in kamino, we see the effects of all mights flawed existence. the fact that he, the greatest and supposedly infallible symbol of peace, was destroyed—society had begun to collapse. there was suddenly no pillar to hold people together and the impacts were so severe that even in the latest chapters of mha it keeps on getting worse. the truth is, all mights biggest mistake was the burden he placed on his own shoulders
with bakugou and deku... its different.
its different for them because down to their attributions, they seem like two halves of a whole person.
i think that the wonder duo are going to surpass all might because of the fact that they work together.
@bakugoukatsuki-rising @svpercraigus @tybee @isaustraliaathing
(batshit crazy and conspiratorial essay under the cut !)
1. Complementary Colors
I’d like to first preface literally everything I say by the fact that I am not an expert analyzer or literary major in any way. I am literally just some random fan on the internet who has wayyy too much time and looks wayyy too deep into things, but here we go!
A common thing we see when we talk about bakugou and deku is the way they are... sort of an inverse of one another.
Down to the design of their features and the way they move, Deku is the obviously softer of the two. There’s an intentional contrast between the two of them, in the way that Deku’s drawn with round shapes and curvy hair and the way Bakugou is literally all spikes and half-mast eyes and rough muscles. Bakugou’s movements too are languid and showy, with the way he leans when he walks and splays his legs and kicks open doors. Katsuki, in a casual sense, is loud and dramatic.
Deku on the other hand s finicky. He jitters when he walks and he’s often fidgeting and mumbling. Comparatively, the aura he radiates is energetic and frenzied, even self-conscious to a point unlike Bakugou’s calm and confident movements.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the point is, there’s a clear difference in how either of them are designed and what exactly they are supposed to represent. They utterly complement each other down to the way they behave and even their main colors (red-orange and blue-green) being literal complementary colors.
Now, moving to my more ungrounded points, this is quite a bit of a stretch so I’ll try as much as possible to make sense of these with hyperlinked sources because. yeah.
Down to their names, I think Deku and Bakugou both symbolize something deeper. I think that the way Hori expresses characters and what they’re meant to do is something that we have to pay close attention to when we talk about the Wonder Duo’s rise to success.
Izuku Midoriya (緑谷 出久), as some of us may know, does have an interesting meaning when broken up. According to a lovely fan translation of his name, ‘Izuku’--while not an actual name used commonly in real life--means to ‘Come out’ or ‘Long time’. ‘Midoriya’ on the other hand means (Midori) ‘Green’ and (ya) ‘valley’. The translator further pointed out that his first name ‘Izuku’ could be a reference to him being the first legendary hero to come out of the long-running All Might Era. (or, if you’ve been reading @/bakugoukatsuki-rising’s posts, the first significant anime protag in a long while to come out as queer, ppfft)
but that isn’t my focus right now.
We know that Hori LOVES telling stories with names, and more often than not in the BNHA universe, names alone tell us a lot of things about the characters. When referring to Izuku’s last name, Midoriya, it’s important I think to step back and realize that hey, maybe there’s something more to Green Valley than just the fact that his motif is all green.
After searching for a lil on the specifics of green valley, I’ve found out that across many cultures, the colour green and valleys in general tend to represent life. From dream analysts, to Christianity, and even old Taoist teachings, valleys are seen as areas of fertility and escape. They are seen as safe havens and often escapes for people to come to after running away from bad circumstances.
(Sound familiar?)
Deku, in essence represents life and peace. He represents being the “salvation” that the world in BNHA needed. To me, it sounds like Horikoshi is trying to say that he is the long-awaited hero in the sense. The one that people can feel will create a society that feels safe for everyone after years of All Might just saving people from themselves as a band-aid solution.
On the other hand, we have Katsuki Bakugou (爆豪 勝己), who’s name we commonly know means (Katsuki) Winner and (Bakugou) Explosion Master. He is essentially, the champion. The power. His name means success and power and all the things that make up winning.
When putting them side by side, it then becomes increasingly... interesting to me how their names almost perfectly slot into All Might’s save to win and win to save mantra, and how they are both quintessential parts to what made All Might as a hero.
2. Hero Too!
Now, I’m not even gonna really TOUCH much of what happens in canon. If you want me to do a step by step breakdown of their arcs in regards to the plot of manga and anime, feel free to send me a gratuitous ko-fi tip so I can pay for the headache I get after trying to organize my thoughts into word vomit.
What I WILL talk about on the other hand, is the subtle shift both of them slowly have in regards to how they look. Bakugou and Deku, while growing up, seem to have MANY many parallels--but before I elaborate on all of that, I wanna talk about something else.
Detour: Deku’s Red Shoes
We all know the iconic symbol being Deku’s red shoes. For all his life, save for some outfits like his hero one, we see Deku more often than not wearing his signature red sneakers which have become a running joke in fandom.
But the funny thing is, in Japan, red shoes seem to have an interesting connotation.
In 1922, a popular Japanese nursery rhyme was written, called “Red Shoes”. The interesting part to me about this song was the symbolism that, in my tiny pea-sized brain, I could connect to the story of BNHA.
The story goes that there was a little girl with red shoes named ‘Kimi’. She was from Shizuoka prefecture (which, if you didn’t know, is most likely where Musutafu supposedly is) and was raised by a single mother. When she was young, her mother had to entrust her with a foreigner under the impression that they would give her a better life in America. The stranger is a man named Charles Hewitt (who was described to have blue eyes) and supposedly took her away.
The singer of the song (supposedly the mother, but some argue it was written from the perspective of a childhood friend) believes that Kimi is happy and living a better life away from them, when the reality of the situation was much worse. The young girl with red shoes in actuality had Tuberculosis, and thus the foreigner whom she was entrusted to had left her to fend for herself and eventually left her to go to America while she died alone and orphaned.
“When I see red shoes, I think of her.”
A very interesting story with very interesting implications indeed.
-
Anyway, moving on to the more... “nuanced” and connected parts of this section, I have every reason to believe that Bakugou and Deku were simply MEANT to be working together down to how they dress. Now, I’d like to discuss their hero costumes.
At the start of their series, using these godawful pics for reference, it’s clear to see that neither of them seem alike in any way--reflecting the dissonance in their relationship at that point in canon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ough. deku why. (yes we know why its because you love your mom you stupid little bunny <3)
Anyway, we see an immediate gap in how the two of them are. Deku’s first costume is one that reflects how he treated his dream of being a hero. He was still in that childlike idolization phase, the one where his dreams and aspirations were hinged on pure feelings and inspiration from All Might. Katsuki on the other hand was a lot more tactical--professional to an extent. The gap between their respective development with their quirks is something that is clearly felt in every fashion decision they’d made.
(Notice how Deku’s green is a lot brighter and less like the green accents Katsuki has all over his costume.)
As time progressed however... their costumes changed. The colors, the silhouettes, the practical functions, most things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Deku’s Gamma Costume and Bakugou’s Winter Costume used respectively)
we begin to notice a few similarities.
As the show goes on and we see more evolutions of their costumes, it almost seems like they begin to look like a matching pair. Deku’s green grows darker and almost teal in nature, while Bakugou’s orange is veering towards red territory. This is important to note because red-orange and blue-green as I said earlier were complementary colors as compared to simply orange and green. The minute shift is something I really wasn’t quite sure was intentional, but something I find interesting to pick up nonetheless as the colors they used to accent their costumes begin to match up.
Secondly, I think and important thing to note is silhouettes. The way that both Bakugou and Deku’s costumes are designed follow a lot of parallels that typically we don’t see with the rest of 1-A. For one, they both have a combination of tight long-sleeved tops with a bulkier set of bottoms. They also share the use of utility belts and metal pieces typically worn around their necks. Deku has his bunny-eared hood that mimics All Might’s hair, while Bakugou has his orange and black explosion ear-pieces that mimic his own quirk.
Tumblr media
i don’t think any other people in class 1-A match each other as subtly yet strongly as these two. Uraraka and Deku and Bakugou and Kirishima do come close however.
“But Codi, you fucking knob!” I hear you plea. “This is such a reach and tells us practically NOTHING!” And yes, I’m inclined to agree with you! You’d be sort of right in the idea that this is a reach. Maybe I am looking too much into this, and maybe it really isn’t that deep--but I do think that them subconsciously matching outfits means something quite brilliant.
In the way that their costumes are designed, each aspect of either outfits have a very logical explanation. The changes were strategic and made with their fighting styles vividly in mind, so what that tells me is that BECAUSE these costumes are so complementary or similar in nature (Bakugou’s reinforcing his arms while Deku reinforces his legs), these two are implicitly showing the audience that their combat styles are complementary as well.
The evolution of their design choices and similarities tell us that even unknowingly, their minds line up in strategy on the battlefield--a clear exhibit for why they would be INCREDIBLY POWERFUL as a Hero Duo to begin with.
When I look at their hero costumes side by side, I see a mirror. I see the way that these two are reflections of each other and are strong where the other isn’t. The point I see in BNHA repeatedly is that EVERYONE HAS A WEAKNESS. Nothing is infallible, regardless of how hard you train or how powerful your quirk is. Everyone will always have a weakness, but the significant difference I see when fandom discusses the future of Pro-Hero Society is that the new generation is finally raising itself to be RELIANT on each other.
Observing their fighting styles and the simple use of their quirks, its obvious that they are indeed two parts of a whole hero. Bakugou, who’s quirk emphasized his arms and hands and the power that comes from it, while Deku who’s quirk now emphasizes his legs and lower body and the way he’s always running to save people.
IN CONCLUSION:
As they become heroes, it is easy to assume that if nothing else, Bakugou and Deku will cover each other’s weak spots (especially when you consider the way Deku probably won’t be able to keep using his arms with the way both the anime and manga are going...) (also chapter 285, anyone?)

Seen too many people say Tomie was a good mom because "she still loved him!" "she got him that plushie!" "she gave him that letter!" And I'm trying so hard not to use the "yeah but it squicks me out bc she reminds me of my mom esp when people write meta explaining her" card bc I know you're not supposed to project on fictional characters like that, yada yada can't be a hypocrite with what we say to villain stans.
(+) but its just so unhealthy. I hate seeing Hawks feel guilty about "turning his back on her" and "not saving her" when he's been expected to since he was born. And he's not obliged to care about abusive or toxic parents. And who tf says he didn't save her, ahem. She should take some responsibility herself. He literally went through all that training and saved her from poverty. Being proud of him doesn't mean much when she was the one asking why he was even born or what good was he
(+) until money came knocking in the form of the Hpsc. And look, I get it. Not all bad parents will be on "be utter crap" mode 24/7, there's gonna be cooldown periods where they're semi-decent. And it shouldn't erase the hurt, it doesn't make all the bad times "okay" all of a sudden. But I think it hurts because Hawks is so forgiving. He doesn't mind. That one moment does wonders to make her a more preferable parent to him
(+) even tho I think her true colors would be right back to how she was before without that fancy house and her child bringing in all these luxuries. "Let's hope you grow up as strong as this guy." Doesn't feel as sweet to me, I'm sorry. Maybe she means it? Hori always sprinkles in good and bad traits. It's realistic and complex, but I need to think it over more. My feelings keep changing about this line.
(+) Rn I'm stuck on "it's just a comment, it was before she presumably got worse, anyone could say that to their child but is it hope out of care or hope bc anything else would make Keigo so pointless?" Still. Doesn't. Erase. How. She. Hurt. Him. I'll respect Hawks's feelings about this, but I don't think its healthy for him to feel guilty like this. Give him a better family please, its obvious his sense of self-worth came from her.
I understand how you feel Nonnie and I think on this matter, it comes down more to personal feelings rather than hard facts.
For me, I agree with your view that Tomie wasn’t a good mother. She was neglective to him at the worst and verbally abusive to him too and has probably been the root to many of Hawks self-esteem issues that we’ve seen him express in adulthood.
I think Tomie’s feeling for Hawks were complicated because she was an abused and mentally ill woman. Hawks was clearly an unwanted child (...and damn does that hurt to write) whose birth caused issues for her and her relationship with his bastard father and we see this expressed many times in the chapter (with both parents berating him for being born like he had any choice in that matter).
However, her going out to buy him the Endeavor plushie and going against the rules set by their abuser to do so also shows us that she does care about Hawks, even if a little. Sure Hawks might have excused it as “to shut him up” but it takes more then just that to go against an abuser and her comment to Hawks about hoping he grew up to be as strong as Endeavor also shows us she cares about him.
Tomie may have loved Hawks but it requires more then just love to be a good mother. I’d argue that Tomie was a bad parent towards Hawks and her treatment towards him shouldn’t just be brushed off because she was caring at times.
Her running away from her problems again, putting herself above the life of her son, shows us that she’s not a good parent, in my opinion. Just like how she put her child at risk by making him homeless, she put him at risk once again and can’t even bring herself to apologise to him for doing so. She’s not ready to face her problems and if she keeps running, I don’t think she ever will be.
Hearing Hawks blame himself for not “saving” his mother hurt me too because it should never be the obligation of the children to save their parents, especially ones who have hurt them in the past and he’s done plenty for her to begin with. However I think (and hope) this was just to showcase to us more of Hawks more negative traits where he tries to blame himself for everything that goes wrong (like he did when the League joined up with the MLA and formed the PLF).
I hope someone tells Hawks there is nothing wrong with cutting ties with someone who has hurt you too much and you don’t have to “save” them at the expense of yourself just because you’re a good person. I don’t want him to blame himself for Tomie anymore.
...Hawks past hurts me so much because it’s such a complicated situation where he was failed by both his parents T-T

Dabi using "us" and "our" now is kinda out of character, he never cared about the league and took off from them at every possible opportunity
It seems like we've skipped an whole arc of him being close to them.
I guess now is a good time to look at Touya’s character as a whole now that we have most of what we need.
I honestly feel like everything from here on out with him is gonna be new development based off of what just happened, not necessarily development that explains his mysterious character throughout the entire story—which imo is what everything we’ve seen up until now has been.
So hmm. I don’t agree with your statement, but not for completely contradicting reasons. I don’t think Touya’s arc was ever gonna revolve around the LOV, or be very inclusive of his thoughts toward them until he had a break through with Shouto. Even now I don’t expect his arc to be LOV-centric, but he might put more thought toward them now that he has gotten a chance to cool his head a little. Like we may see “hm Shigaraki is basically a puppet maybe someone should do something”, that kind of thinking.
But with that being said—I don’t think what he’s saying now is OOC or out of left field. I think it’s just development that builds off of and seals in his previous character that he’s been showing us throughout the whole story.
In fact, to me it feels VERY in character for him to give the bare minimum acknowledgement of himself as a part of their group.
Before this chapter he said this in chapter 349:
Tumblr media
“That’s all of us.” Yes, that includes the LOV, but it also includes everyone the heroes have overlooked. So by this point, we can gather that Touya is fully voicing that there is a systemic issue that affects more than just him and his family. Voicing it to Shouto—who even now has still yet to voice any concerns about the system they operate under. (We’ll have to see what Hori does with that lopsided mentality between the two of them)
But—there is a contradiction in his words. Because he says it’s systemic, but moments before he says this:
Tumblr media
So is it individuals battling out their ideals? Or is it a group of people fighting a system, rather than the people upholding it? For the LOV, it’s both. As a group, they want change, destruction, a new world to live in. But as individuals: Shigaraki wants a hero to acknowledge him and save him, Toga wants acceptance from the greater part of society, and Touya wants his family to see him, and his dad to acknowledge he existed.
So for Touya to lump himself in with everyone else, to me isn’t OOC. It’s him acknowledging that while they all have some sort of common objective (change the present), they all individually want different things—including himself.
Himself especially, because while I’m not in agreement that he doesn’t care about the LOV—I’m not in agreement with the opposite end of the spectrum either, the notion that he views the LOV as his family and prioritizes them in a selfless manner (I don’t really feel that way about any of them if I’m being honest).
You’re right—Touya has always kept himself separate, distanced. And literally no matter what was happening, he always had his goal in mind first:
Tumblr media
But even so, the LOV were his home base, in a way. He could always go back if he needed to, and he always did. And throughout their time together he grew some sort of identity as being a part of their group:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The entire point of this chapter was to show that there was some togetherness in their group, Toga held Twice close to her heart. Spinner is concerned about Shigaraki. Touya cared enough collect Twice’s blood, to go after Toga that day, burn her house down full of painful memories.
But that chapter also shows that their togetherness was only temporary—as Shigaraki isn’t himself, Twice is gone, and Touya is giving the responsibility of how the blood is used to Toga, rather than them doing something with it together.
This all makes sense later when we finally get his backstory:
Tumblr media
Touya, from day ONE, has always viewed the LOV as temporary. For him at least.
So with everything we have now, I think it’s safe to say that Touya remained a part of the LOV because he knew that he wasn’t all that different from them in terms of circumstances. And he knew that if he wanted to get to the position he wanted in order to carry out his agenda, they were the people who would get him there, because they get it.
But he also knew that his personal goal was different—which involved an ending with his own death—so therefore he stayed distant.
Of course he’s not gonna be planning his funeral, so now there is tons of potential for future development.
I honestly feel like if there is any “LOV power of friendship moment” coming in the future chapters, it’d best be used when Twice is brought into the picture and they can all fight alongside him one last time. As a final farewell for everyone. I think it’d be cool for the LOV to show the kids that they are capable of great things when they have the right support—which at this point I assume they’ll have received the emotional and mental support from the kids that they’ve been desperately wanting, and then have the support of their comrades they’ve gotten familiar with throughout the story. And will really be able to shine when they have everything they need.
Especially Touya—as I’m pretty convinced still that there is more to his power than we know, and once he has his actual FAMILY backing him up, even if only in spirit—he’ll be able to really help save the day at the end.
So all in all I don’t think anything is OOC. I think it’s just the right amount of “yeah, I know those guys” energy lol.
He’s lumping himself in with the rejects of society because in his eyes, his family buried and rejected him. So once he realizes that they didn’t just bury his memory, and that they want him back—he’ll be a little more outwardly focused on them at the end. Because imo it seems like his family consumes his inner world to a disastrous extent, and he can’t really look at anything surrounding him because his family (in his eyes) doesn’t see him, while HE sees THEM. So it’s just a lot of unaddressed pain that he needs help fighting so he can appreciate everyone in his life at the end.
All that to say I think some of Touya’s most exciting development is yet to come. I think we’ll get to know him a lot better pretty soon once he starts working alongside Shouto.

Okok but, I actually totally sympathize with bakugou and his entire being.
I actually hate how much relate to him. His aggressiveness, his passion, his everything.
That boy has so much yet at the same time he lacks so much. Sure he has hobbies, he has friends(?) now, he has a cool and awesome quirk, but in the end of the day, does that really benefit him in a way that’s gonna leave a good impression on himself? Because no one looks down on bakugou more than bakugou himself and honestly me too.
He lacks affection, he lacks a certain type of attention, he lacks therapy (deadass), he needs a genuinely good role mode that he can entrust even his deepest darkest secrets too (manifesting this for an aizawa and bakugou mentor-student relationship like all might and deku). Which, in a funny way deku sorta has(?) and he’s lowkey trying to give that to bakugou but hes too closed off, at least he was before, Im really confident that we’re gonna get a bkdk talk soon (pls hori im on my knees and their bruised af rn)
And just like bkg, deku too, has so much yet lacks so much at the same time. He’s received all the affection and love he can get from both his friends and mother. He has an okay(?) mentor-student relationship with all might.
But I think we can all agree that this bakugou-fucker has no regard for his life whatsoever
He’ll literally give up his life for guy he met on the street if ever in a life threatening situation. This bitch will not hesitate to throw himself onto the villains if given a proper chance and he has done that already countless of time. This boy has no hobbies, sure he has friends but does he see them as proper equals? Can he truly trust with their own lives?!? Lol no. I really think a lot of people fail to see this borderline apathetic side of deku and that really sucks because people just narrow him down as an, and i qoute “OP crybaby who got everything handed to him” when no?!?!?
You know, bakugou may be a selfish prick sometimes but he has his reasons, but what about deku? When it comes to life or death situations, he becomes cocky and selfish, he tried to do everything on his own even of he has no chance of winning.
In conclusion: I kin these two on level so high that even God has to look up just to see where that level is.
The Deku being selfish bit really hit me, cause it's so true. He's selfish and he doesn't care who it affects, because he had one goal in mind and it's to save. It doesn't matter how it makes other people feel or what happens to himself. The only person's feelings we've ever seen him consider in terms of his selfishness is Bakugou, who he opened up to about OfA because he didn't want him to look down on him or think he was lying to him.
Aaaa I love

Long BNHA-related rant ahead, but imma organize my thoughts :)
Bakugou should not have failed the provisional licensing exam.
Katsuki failed this exam because he spoke roughly to the “victims”.
If this is enough to not get a hero license, then every single hero at the scene during the sludge villain incident, at the sports festival and/or that got to Katsuki during the kidnapping should have their licenses revoked.
None of these heroes comforted Katsuki, and none of these heroes tried to get the villain to safety. They watched or they were the cause of his suffering. Katsuki was just doing what had been done to him time and time again.
Not to mention, during the rescue portion of the exam, he able to prioritize. Getting to the most injured victims is more important than comforting someone that has a broken arm. Sure, they might think it’s a big deal, but even with doctors, they don’t sit there and comfort everyone in an accident. They go find the person that’s hurt the most. Katsuki was not wrong. Sure, he could’ve worded it better, but to fail?
Side note: This reminds me of the rescue training OVA. Everyone was standing around chatting, and Bakugou decided to leave them and walk into the building to find the dummy, and Ochako calls him self-centered? When he was the one that knew that chatting wasn’t doing anything in their favor? He really can’t win...
(I’ll keep silent on the people I believe should have failed/come close to failing)
Bakugou is treated poorly by nearly everyone in BNHA.
Katsuki is angry. He’s angry a lot.
Katsuki was canonically raised by violence (from what we’ve seen and heard him say).
Katsuki has been in the center of numerous traumatic events.
But he’s angry, right? He’s angry a lot.
He’s angry a lot, so people seem to think that it’s not valid every single time. He’s angry a lot, so he’s not taken seriously. He’s angry a lot, so people treat him like they know him more than he knows himself.
He’s angry a lot, and the characters and the antis never ask why. They never look at all the facts that contribute to his feelings. They never put themselves in his shoes.
They see an angry child, and they stop there. (Sometimes they stop after angry, forgetting that Katsuki is a child.)
This is apparent both in and out of BNHA, and it’s so frustrating how if people perceive anger to be your most felt emotion/if you feel angry a lot, then it’s not valid each and every time.
People care about the cookie cutter kind kids, not the angry ones, and this causes people to not feel heard and to be disregarded.
Looking/being kind doesn’t automatically make you the best.
Looking/being mean doesn’t automatically make you the worst.
I’d argue that Katsuki has PTSD from these events, or, if not, we canonically know that the kidnapping has impacted him immensely.
But he’s angry a lot, so people don’t care.
He gets blamed for things he can’t control and hit by his mother, but “he shouts back! It’s part of his culture! It’s part of his culture and he shouts back, so it’s fine!”
1) Being a part of someone’s culture doesn’t make it right. Yes, I like good parents Mitsuki and Masaru just as much as the next guy, but that doesn’t mean that I’m going to overlook what’s right in front of me and what I hear (remember: he said he was raised in violence). A kid isn’t born angry. Either a chemical imbalance, their environment, or both plays a role. Don’t ignore it because anger isn’t validated in the eyes of others.
2) So what if he yells back? Being hit, being called names, and being blamed for something I can’t control has happened to me, and almost always I shouted back. That does not mean that it hasn’t affected my mental health and self worth. I am always labeled as the angry child. Because of this, when I’m sad or when I’m angry, no one cares unless they’re equally impacted.
Me not being listened to? Doesn’t matter.
Be getting hurt by someone physically or emotionally? Doesn’t matter.
Me being in a bad mood? Doesn’t matter.
But it does matter if it impacts someone else.
It does matter if I don’t listen in return. It does matter if I tell someone and interrupt whatever they’re doing. It does matter if I don’t want to talk to someone and they want to talk to/bother me.
It does matter, but not the fact that I’m feeling this way.
All they know is that I’m angry and it’s affecting them.
But they don’t help me, no. They don’t ask why, they don’t want to hear why.
They just see a child that feels anger a lot and tell them everything that’s wrong with them, because “you’re feeling this way, but I don’t like it”.
This is exactly how it is with Katsuki.
Katsuki’s emotions are extremely valid, but it’s ignored because every other character he interacts with seems so optimistic.
Yeah, they’ve been in traumatic events, but in the span of about a year, Katsuki has suffered, and no one looks past the angry appearance to ask the real questions of why he feels that way.
Being angry doesn’t make you a bad person, but no one in BNHA seems to understand that. (And almost no one in real life does either).
Okay, so I’m gonna briefly mention what I don’t like about other characters (All Might and Deku), so skip this and go to the 🛑 if you don’t want to see it!
Midoriya Izuku
Honestly, I find that with Deku, Hori does a lot of telling and not a lot of showing. Like we’re told he’s kind and we’re told he’s analytical. In reality, so many characters have basically dumped their trauma on Deku and he just replies with “yeah that sucks” or he doesn’t reply at all. With his analytical skills, sure he comes up with plans, but they’re really basic plans. (And extremely reckless at that.)
One thing that I cannot wrap my head around is how every character automatically trusts Deku without any complaints.
Deku is given everything, and I get that he’s the protagonist, but it’s like he has no struggles to reach the top. Like, sure he had that bone breaky thing, but he hears Gran Torino talk about some food not heating up all the way and all of a sudden he’s almost mastered AFO?
Deku should not have gotten so high on the entrance exam, and he should not be at the top of his class in terms of quirk use.
Deku is not 100% innocent in his and Katsuki’s relationship. Bnha is from Deku’s pov, so of course things would look all innocent of his side (especially with his lack of introspection as he only changes when someone else says something, but that’s a rant for another time)
Deku is not good at being inspirational, in my opinion, and I think that his hero-worshipping self should not have been the type of comfort that Eri and Kota needed.
Not a bad thing, but Deku doesn’t even mind Katsuki’s “you might as well take a swan dive off of the roof” comment (that people blow way out of proportion, but sure), so I don’t understand why people are so angry about that scene.
All Might
I don’t like how All Might knocks out Katsuki for pushing himself even if he breaks and whatnot, because Midoriya does that literally every fight, and All Might stays silent.
All Might told Katsuki that he was at a level 50 and Deku was at a level 1 and that was why he’s catching up so quickly as if he didn’t just give Deku the quirk of the number one hero as well as about 6 other quirks.
All Might is a terrible mentor and should not be a teacher. He only cares about his students (especially with Katsuki) when it affects Deku directly, and he doesn’t teach Deku any skills that would help him live longer and actually save people. (Noted in Deku’s highkey terrible handling of the fight during the Eri and Kota situation).
🛑
Okay, before I end this, I have some final things I want to say.
Everyone talks to Bakugou like they know him more than he knows himself.
I don’t understand when people say that Bakugou tormented and “suicide baited” Deku all his life, because we only got, like, 1.5 scenes of him being mean to Deku, everything else was just them hanging out, and he didn’t suicide bait Deku at all, please learn what that means before you use it.
Some of the same people bashing Katsuki are the ones stanning villains and saying that they should get off scot free or comparing him to Endeavor. I don’t understand this. How are you excusing serial killers and comparing an abuser to a child that was mean a couple times? Make it make sense, because right now, the double standards are real.
Done! (For now >:D)
There’s a lot of things that I could’ve said, but we’d be here all week if I mentioned everything, so, please settle with this long post!
Note: I don’t hate Deku nor All Might. I just relate to Katsuki a lot more, and I highkey dislike a lot of aspects of those twos’ characters.
