I don’t want to sleep alone - Preference-Set A
Warnings; Mentions of anxiety and past trauma, typical canon violence. Requests are open! Guidlines are pinned at the top of my page A/N; Part two will be up in a few days! So if you don't see your favourite character here, they might be in Part 2 Credit to @cafekitsune for the divider and banner
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rick Grimes; The two of you nearly died after an encounter with the Saviours. Both of you are dragging your feet, both physically and mentally exhausted. When you turn to head towards your bed for the night, Rick stops you. He te;;s you he nearly lost you today and he doesn't want to sleep without you. Taking hold of his hand, you ask him which bedroom. He leads you toward his room because in Rick's opinion, your bed is like sleeping on concrete.
Tumblr media
Abraham Ford; Ever since the two of you started getting serious, Abraham began to fear losing you. It comes from losing his wife and children. One thing is for certain he refuses to let that happen. This leads to Abraham asking you if you want to stay the night or insisting you two sleep close to each other for safety. Abraham wants to hold you close to reaffirm your there. It does begin to ease his anxiety when you agree.
Tumblr media
Shane Walsh; It's you who tells Shane you don't want to sleep without him. The new world is ferocious, unpredictable, and deadly. Shane has adapted to the new world quickly, without question. So it makes sense for the two of you to share a space. Shane accepts because he doesn't like the idea of you being so far away from him when anything could happen.
Tumblr media
Father Gabriel Stokes; Before the dead rose, Gabriel couldn't imagine sleeping with anyone whom he hadn't married. It was a sin in his eyes. The realization death is around the corner for anyone forces Gabriel to realise he doesn't want to miss out on these experiences with you. Gabriel eventually picks up the courage and expresses his feelings, you made sure he's adamant before agreeing.
Tumblr media
Merle Dixon; Merle doesn't want to sleep without you. For a couple of reasons; one he doesn't like waking up alone. He wants to wake up with your bodies pressed together. Secondly, if Merle was being completely honest with himself, he doesn't trust anyone in Woodbury, There's no way in hell someone's going to hurt you while he's around. He'd gladly die trying to protect you.
Tumblr media
Luke; Luke doesn't want to sleep without you. He feels like it's the next natural stage within your relationship. Living together, sharing a bed etc. Luke is grateful the two of you have found each other. It's only natural he wants to progress your relationship as normal as possible. For Luke, sharing a bed feels like the next step.
Tumblr media
Siddiq; Siddiq is shaken from his encounter with the Whisperers. He's never been more terrified of dying before. He's struggling to adapt back to real life, constantly dealing with nightmares When you make the suggestion, Siddiq agrees. He'd thought he'd never see you again. He considers your warm embrace will help him sleep through the night again
Tumblr media
Eugene Porter; Eugene is taken aback when you tell him you don't to sleep without him. He can't fathom why you would want to share a bed with him. His reaction is adamant, of course, he does. The entire interaction is awkward, soft and endearing as you both decide who's bed to share.
Tumblr media
Benjamin; Benjamin never expected to fall in love. Never expected to find someone in the apocalypse, but he has. He's lying in bed one night, tossing and turning, struggling to sleep. His feet instinctively head him in the direction of your room. When he knocks, you are half asleep. He blurts out he doesn't want to sleep alone. You reply by opening the door wider and allowing him in
Tumblr media
Beta; Beta insists you don't sleep alone. Living outside with the Whisperers is dangerous, there's danger at every turn. Beta hasn't cared in the past. When you two get together. things change. Suddenly, he's scared to lose someone. There is someone in his life that he wants to protect. So he insists you two sleep side by side.
Tumblr media
Theodore "T-Dog" Douglas; When everyone's sorting out sleeping accommodations in the prison. You surprise him when you tell him you don't want to sleep alone. T-Dog immediately goes in search of a comfortable place for you to sleep. It's nice at the end of the end of the day, to know he's going to fall asleep with you in his arms.
Tumblr media
Alden; You and Alden are sitting together reading, your eyes drooping, struggling to stay awake. Alden makes the suggestion you go to bed. However, you refuse telling Alden you don't want to sleep without him. Alden smiles, he truly adores it when you're sleepy and completely honest. Alden replies with you don't have to. Alden leads you up to his room.
Tumblr media
Justin; Justin doesn't want to sleep without you through jealousy. He doesn't like the way Daryl's been staring at you. He wants to remind everyone, especially Daryl who you come back to after your day has finished. Who keeps you warm on those cold nights
Tumblr media
Noah; Things are always tense in the hospital. There's always some politics going around. Noah's favourite part of the hospital is you. You two are hanging out, when Noah brings it up. He doesn't want to sleep alone, because its time he could have spent with you. The sentiment is sweet and when you agree, Noah asks you which side you prefer.
Tumblr media
Jerry; You come to Jerry in the middle of the night, tears running down your face, pain-stricken. Immediately Jerry opens up his arms, embracing you. Jerry sets into consoling you. The world is harsh and cruel and even the strongest people break. When you tell Jerry, you don't want to sleep without him, he tells you you don't have to because he's right here.
Tumblr media
Axel; Axel struggles to get accustomed to the harsh reality of the world. You are the best thing to come out of it. Companionship, patience, love. So when you come into his cell asking to sleep with him, he scoots to the side, pulling back the blanket. He tells you, you don't have to ask. He'll protect you from the nightmares.
Tumblr media
Gareth; Axel struggles to get accustomed to the harsh reality of the world. You are the best thing to come out of it. Companionship, patience, love. So when you come into his cell asking to sleep with him, he scoots to the side, pulling back the blanket. He tells you, you don't have to ask. He'll protect you from the nightmares.
Tumblr media
Micheal Mercer; Micheal is always busy. He takes the job seriously because it's important. However, sometimes he can feel like he's not spending enough time with you. It's why one night, he decides to ask you, to stay. He tells you, he doesn't want to go to bed alone anymore. Not when he can fall and wake up to something beautiful
Tumblr media
Negan; Negan smirks when you tell him you don't want to sleep alone. He's been waiting for you to come to him. He didn't want to put any pressure on you, but he's been wanting to share a bed with you for a while. In Negan's mind, it's another way to be close to you. An excuse to feel your body against his.

CARYL'S LAST EPISODE... (It IS going to be long, beware...) please note that these are only my opinion and the things i felt while watching
----------------
I dont know where to start... i posponed in order to try to gather my thoughts but its hard..
Im not okay. Im not fine. I keep thinking about what we were supposed to have. Them riding off together. Now imagine the same ending scene for them, saying both goodbye to the kids and Ezekiel, with the same beautiful music in the background....
We probably wouldn't have had an I love you then, nor a kiss i believe, but we would've had them leaving together and riding off to their spin off. Which was the plan. Which was the fucking plan. The fucking endgame plan. With or without canon. This is all i could think while watching the scene and hearing the music behind.
I was so caught up in the episode earlier with Rosita and everything happening that it almost took me the time jump to remember that it was the last twd ep ever and that they were going their separate ways at the end, within the next 20 mns or so. Thats when it hit me. Again.
So they were together the whole way this episode, taking care both of Judith, Carol taking care of Daryl, both respectfully giving Magna/Connie/Yumiko/Kelly some space to say goodbye and mourn Luke while trying to save Jude. And while watching over her, they gave each other at some point a beautiful longing look .
She helped him giving his blood, she teared up with relief when Little ass kicker woke up, her hands in her hair.
I loved all that.
Then: bam, action, back to the rest of the episode, fastforward to the end with them locking Pamela up and giving her the same kind of speech Richonne gave when they locked up Negan in the s8 finale. Please. And let's not even go back to Family 11.23, where they ran with Judith in Daryl's arms and Carol clearing the way, just as Richonne with Carl in s6.... Please, again.
But back to Rest in Peace:
Time jump: we have Connie running towards Daryl and my heart shattered a little, thinking "oh no its like Zeke in 9x01, they made them canon post time jump". But no, so huuuuuge relief, cause im not gonna lie and pretend: she did look like a girlfriend running towards her boyfriend in this scene, and that was totally done on purpose i believe. That said, we knew he was leaving and as far as we knew not with Connie so it didnt make sense for me to actually worry i guess ?
And then we see Carol. Short haired. Which i liked. Because if having long hair meant feeling safe enough coz Ed couldnt grab them anymore so no need to cut them short, having short hair again meant, in my opinion: now i feel safe regardless of my haircut, no one's gonna hurt me, Ed is long dead, i can feel safe and relaxed with long OR short hair.
And then we have the goodbye....
I wish you were coming with me. I was torn between screaming "dont we all" and "no shit sherlock".
This is going to be good for you, for me.
Yes. You heard that. To be separated. Good.for.them. Why? How? When? The hell does it mean? I had time to think abt it, and i dont like what i came up with:
"i love u too much and it scares me? We're too fusional? We hurt each other too much lately?? You re better off without me because im not good for u anyway? And to be alone - without u- for a while will allow me some time to heal ?"
After he says goodbye to the kids and zeke, Judith goes, hey, daryl, u deserve happiness too and yes, she seems to look behind, towards Carol but no, im not going to make conclusions out of it even if i love the idea, especially considering what Norman said to Vanity fair abt this line ("if there is any line from the finale that carries over to the spin off , it's that one"). That doesnt look good but i also know not to make a big deal out of what actors say - good or bad, honestly - and at this point i dont wanna care for now, we'll see.
Here's the link for this interview:
Then ... I LOVE YOU
SO... unfortunately, it was said in the same episode than Rosita/Eugene's i love you, and than Magna's " I love you" and "we love you so much" to Luke. So yeah, anyone can see it as platonic if they want to, and put Caryl in the same box as Rosita/Eugene and Luke/his group. It was done on purpose to me.. a la "see? This is the last episode, so this is the episode of the i love yous and do what u want with it"
BUT... the way he said it sounded romantic as hell to me (same as the look he gave her when he answered "yeah..." to her "its a beautiful day to head out"...).
This is her answer/response that bothered me. He said it as a sort of relief for me, like "i finaaaally let it out of my chest", and "i fucking mean it" but she brushed it off, a la "yeah sure pookie dont make fun of me" and to be honest i was almost expecting her to have a "staaaaap" Daryl call back (rofl/tears/idontevenknowanymore). Then she kind of realised he was serious and answered a bit shyly/awkardly i love u too. I was like oh come on!!!! Does she STILL think she's not good enough for his love??
To me he looked disappointed for a nanosecond, and then "oh well", touches her face, they hug, smile, look sad, and off we go. (Yes, maybe it was more Melissa/Norman than Caryl at this point, i dont know).
And then he looks like he wants to say something to her again, and i want to believe it was something like either "u sure u dont want to come ? Please come? " And/ or "i actually love you, you know ? " but eh...
At the end of the day, of course i loved the I love you. For freak's sake, he didnt say it to anyone else in this show, and it is a big deal coming from him, and he said it first. He could have just said: im gonna miss u so much. No, his last words to her were i love you. His last words ever in the main show were to Carol and it was I love you. Of course i screamed with joy regardless of everything.
Ok, to end this dead ass long post, two more things:
Considering everything, im glad Carol's with the kids. Since i like Carick, it gives me hope that maybe, maybe, he could reunite with his kids and Carol (with Rick being forever grateful to her once more), with Daryl - and Michonne of course - being obviously right beside him... since a Rickyl reunion is more than sure at this point, which would lead to a - one can hope- Caryl reunion too...
Also i like the idea of Judith taking care of Carol like Daryl asked. After everything, this is a nice concept. She needs to be taken care of, for once. And if its by the kids, nice touch, since she's taken care of them so much. Plus Carol and Judith being close is all i ever hoped for.
On a lighter note - and please note that it was only a joke to cheer me up, and that i LOVE Ezekiel :
Not my bf saying while watching the caryl goodbye: "look at Zeke being "lets get the fuck out of here kids im not watching this emotional goodbye" while still staying not too far behind to make sure Daryl's actually leaving"
It made me laugh trough my tears, but in all seriousness, Zeke gave them space and i loved him for that, also his hug with Daryl was heartfelt and touching. I want him to find happiness and really move on.
NB: i had a thousand more things to say, but its already way too long...
NB bis: i wish they had brought up the cherokee rose. They were in a beautiful place where there were probably a lot of flowers, he could have taken one and put it in her hair to cheer her up since she was crying and sad. Well, cherokee roses may not be easy to find i dont know... but you know, anything that makes a nice call back to that. Or the acorns. Or the bracelet. Make one last cute joke abt that. For example.
Oh, and have u seen how Maggie asked to see and talk to them both about exploring the world? Since Carol says u want to talk etc. I bet this scene wasnt changed and was in the original way to send caryl into their spin off...

Okay, so this is how I would want Rick (and Michonne) to come back in The Walking Dead's final episode.
Remember when in the latest episode, episode 23, Luke and Jules both came with the herd to the place where team family (+ Negan) were and that we didn't see Elijah with them. Nor Jerry. No Elijah and Jerry with them. Or they just didn't show it. Whatever.
Imagine...
Elijah is somewhere there alone with bunch of walkers and he thinks this is a lost cause and that he's gonna die. He actually almost is dying. Because reasons. Maybe walkers recognize he's not one of them or something happens and Elijah has to take his 'walker-suit' off. Or something like that. And then walkers starts to go towards him. And Jerry sees all this far from there. He don't know who it is who's in trouble. Is it Elijah? Luke? Jules? Maybe all of them? And there are so many walkers it's scary. Jerry either just watches in shock that event or starts to run toward Elijah to trying to save him. But then... many walkers around Elijah are being shot to death. And then starts the song. Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top. Or it can also be any other badass song there is which fits to twd. But it has to be badass. Then we see him. We see legendary Rick Grimes.
And then they show Jerry and he says either "Rick? Rick Grimes?" or "Rick? Great Rick Grimes?" Then Rick gives Elijah gun or maybe some silent weapon because they're cooler and fit better and then we get to see Rick in action. He kills walkers with gun and also with machete or some other weapon and people who he has with him (yes, he's not alone), are shooting walkers on the other side. And music is blasting.
Then Michonne comes to the screen and she has her katana and she also starts to kill walkers. And Jerry just smiles and is surprised and happy. Rick also gives Jerry some weapon and four of them start to kill walkers together. Maybe at the same time they are showing us Commonwealth and people fighting walkers over there too. There are few advanced walkers in the bunch and you see some epic action. You get this great music and it shows team family and it shows Rick, Michonne, Jerry & Elijah and they all fight so hard, they give their everything to it. That's how I want it to happen. And after that scene, they go to Commonwealth and you have some beautiful emotional and epic music playing. Rick gets to see others too. If it's not too late. And I hope it's not.

“A Silver Lining” Luke x F!Reader
Tumblr media
Request from anonymous: CAN YOU PLEASEEE DO A LUKE IMAGINE??? Maybe the reader lives at Hilltop or Oceanside and Luke finds her singing one day and he like falls for her but shes shy???
Word Count: 3426
Warning: None
Song I Wrote To: “I Choose You” by Sara Bareilles
Note: I didn’t make the reader that shy, but I like the little conversation they had. Thank you for requesting a Luke imagine. Note, this is very weird when it comes to timing. i made it so it was like Lukes group got to hilltop before the whole jesus graveyard debacle. *ALL ASL IS IN ITALICS*
----------
Luke stood under the bright Virginia sun watching the people of Hilltop begin their day.
He and the rest of his group had been at the community for a few days now and he was starting to feel at home. Although, any place that they stayed for more than a night tended to feel that way. However, he had a feeling that this time would be different.
Yumiko was finally feeling better and she and Magna had taken to assisting with guard duty, giving some of the resident Hilltop soldiers a few extra hours of sleep. Connie and Kelly had also offered to help by hunting and helping around the community with whatever was needed. Luke, however, hadn't found his place quite yet.
Tara was great and she assured him that for now all he needed to do was settle in and that soon enough, there would be something for him to do. Being on the road for so long, Luke wasn't very good at doing nothing. Ever since the Turn, he had been fighting, scavenging, running, and of course trying to look after his people. The fact that he now had what Connie called "leisure time", it felt unnatural and he wanted to fix that right away.
Enid had already kicked him out of her infirmary twice. Luke wasn't a doctor by any means but he had helped stitch up Magna multiple times and he knew his way around basic first aid, but Enid had assured him that she was fine. Eventually, he gave up and went to sit at one of the guard posts, giving a guard a break for a bit.
That’s where Alden found him.
Luke had liked the guy immediately. Alden was a blacksmith for Hilltop and also Enid's boyfriend. He had introduced himself when Luke and his people had ridden up to Hilltop with Michonne and the others and the two had become fast friends.
"You know, staring at nothing isn't exactly being on guard," Alden said, pulling Luke's attention back to the present.
"Right, sorry," Luke said, shaking his head slightly.
"Get any sleep?"
"If by ‘sleep’ you mean pure bliss, then yes, yes I did," Luke said with a grin. Alden understood immediately.
"I know the feeling. Nothing like those first few nights when you know you're safe and you don't have to sleep with one eye open."
"I guess that's the beauty of places like this," Luke said, gesturing around. "You been here long?"
"Just over seven years now," Alden said, "I was here during and after the War and then just sort of never left." Luke furrowed his brow.
"This war," he began, "I heard someone else mention something about it at breakfast. You guys really fought a whole other community?"
"Not just Hilltop," Alden explained, "It was us, Alexandria, and two other communities called The Kingdom and Oceanside. We fought against the Saviors, a massive group of people led by a man named Negan. Luckily we won, but there were casualties."
"Anyone you knew?" Alden nodded solemnly.
"Yeah. I was a part of the Saviors at first and we lost a lot of people at the start," he said awkwardly, "then, Jesus and Maggie, the leaders of Hilltop, took us hostage and eventually some of us convinced them to let us fight. Not everyone was as loyal to Negan as others." Luke nodded. He could imagine that none of what Alden was talking about was as simple as it seemed.
"What happened to him? Negan?" Luke asked.
"Ah, well, he's still alive," Alden revealed, "yeah, he's locked up in Alexandria. Grimes family keeps him under lock and key."
"Grimes? Like Michonne and Judith?"
"Yeah and the smallest one, RJ," said Alden before his face fell a bit more, "There were two others. Carl, Judith's older brother who died near the end of the war and then Rick Grimes...he saved us all about six years ago. He sacrificed himself for everyone. He was a good man."
"I wish I could have met him," Luke said honestly.
"Yeah," Alden said with a crooked smile, "but those kids of his are gonna be just like him and something tells me they’ll be the last survivors of this world."
Luke and Alden continued talking about everything from the War to the latest drama that was going on within the communities. Apparently, the Kingdom, ruled by King Ezekiel and Queen Carol, was going to be hosting a fair that would promote trade between the communities.
Luke thought it was a great idea. Bring some normalcy back into the crazy world. He missed simple things like that, just interacting with other people and having conversations that weren't about the Dead or whether or not they'd get enough food for winter.
Not that Hilltop had a food shortage. Luke was in awe at how much grain and vegetables they were producing. It was incredible to see how self-sustaining the Hilltop was and he especially enjoyed a particular view from where he stood next to Alden.
Luke had first seen you the day Michonne had brought him and his people in. You had been sitting in the shade of Barrington house adding feathers to arrows. You looked so relaxed as you did your task, your hands moving on autopilot. As Luke watched you, it was Connie who noticed his immediate interest.
Connie has just winked at him with one of her famous smiles. In return, Luke had used some colorful signs that Kelly had taught him recently which only made Connie laugh. It was the first time in a while she had laughed and so Luke had let the teasing continue as long as it made his friend happy.
However, a few days later and Luke was eager to finally have a chance to talk to you. "Who is that?" Luke asked, pointing to you as you stood in the field speaking to Tara. Alden followed his eye line.
"(Y/N)," he said, "she's originally from Oceanside but moved here after the War. She became really close to Tara and moved to Hilltop to help build up the agricultural and resource farming."
"(Y/N)...," Luke said, testing your name on his tongue. Alden caught on just as quick as Connie had.
"She's quiet, but once you get her talking, it's almost impossible to get her to stop," Alden said with a smile. "She's also a killer shot with a bow." When Luke looked back at his new friend, Alden was giving him a knowing look.
“Oh, shut up,” Luke said as he pushed away from the wall and headed down the ladder. Alden’s laughter followed him as he headed back towards Barrington, looking for his friends. He found Connie first as she was heading out of the stables. He waved at her and she returned the greeting.
The two of them settled at one of the tables in front of the colonial house and Luke immediately dropped his head to the table in defeat. He could hear Connie laugh slightly and then she was lightly touching his arm. He peeked up at her. “What’s up?” she signed.
“Nothing,” he signed back and Connie narrowed her eyes. She then raised her right hand with her pointer finger and passed it across her chin. The sign for “lie”. Luke scoffed and sat up fully.
“How’s Kelly?” Luke asked, trying to change the subject. Connie pursed her lips but answered him anyways. The two of them talked for a while and Luke finally began to relax. Connie was telling him everything that she had learned about the community and how nice the people were as they waited for her to write things down.
Connie explained that Kelly was still a bit wary of the new place as were Yumiko and Magna, but Luke knew those three were like that with every new place they went. It was understandable and he knew that their instincts had saved them multiple times in the past. He did, however, wish Magna would give more people the benefit of the doubt. Luke only hoped that their relationship with Alexandria wouldn’t be affected due to Michonne and Magna’s clear dismissal of each other.
Since the start of everything, Luke had learned quickly how to judge new people he had met on the road. After meeting both docile and hostile individuals throughout the Apocalypse, it was almost as if he developed another sense for the intentions of others. It was clear to him that the people of Alexandria and Hilltop were good and for once, he didn’t feel on edge all the time.
As Connie told him about a moment from earlier in the day, Luke became distracted as you strolled through the gates, wiping your hands on your jeans. Connie’s hands paused and followed Luke’s gaze as he followed you through Hilltop. You headed for the water tank, eager to cool down after working in the field all morning. Suddenly, Connie kicked Luke under the table.
“Dude!” Luke exclaimed out loud. Connie pointed at you and then hooked her finger in a question. Luke rolled his eyes. “You and Alden are annoying,” he signed and Connie just grinned at him. Glancing over at you again, Connie winked at Luke and got up from the table. Luke tried to grab her arm, but Connie danced out of the way, still smiling.
Luke ducked down and watched as she strolled over to you. Connie gently tapped you on the shoulder and you turned to her with a smile. Connie raised her notebook and introduced herself. Luke watched as you shook her hand and then wrote your name on the pad of paper as Connie offered it to you.
He couldn’t help but smile as he watched you patiently wait for Connie to write and then how you made sure to keep eye contact while you spoke to her. It was such a small thing, but Luke felt warmth in his chest as he watched you and one of his best friends interact. Eventually, Connie asked if you needed any help and you gratefully accepted, handing her an empty crate for harvesting and gestured back out to the fields. As you and Connie passed Luke, Connie turned to look at her friend and sent him a wink. Luke’s forehead found the tabletop once again as embarrassment swelled in his chest. That woman never missed a thing.
------
Later that night, Luke couldn’t sleep.
His mind would not shut down and while he felt safe and comforted by the walls of Barrington House, he needed some fresh air to clear his head. He walked the perimeter of the community, lightly dragging his hands along the steel walls. The night air was warm and a slight breeze ruffled the nearby trees, drowning out any Walkers that loomed in the distance.
As he walked towards the rear of Barrington House, he heard someone as they softly sang to themselves. Peering around the corner, he froze as he saw it was you. Luke watches as you carried crates of food towards the main storage area all while you sang in a low voice. Not wanting to disturb you, Luke waited in the shadows, listening to the melodies that escaped your lips.
You worked with a rhythm as you sang, keeping as quiet as possible to not disturb the residents of Hilltop. It took him a moment, but soon Luke recognized the song as Fleetwood Mac’s “Songbird”. It was one of his favourites from the rock band. Your voice was like honey on a warm day. There was no effort behind every note you sang and you even added subtle nuances in the bridge and chorus. It was near mesmerizing to him as he listened.
All-day, Luke had been trying to come up with an excuse to talk to you, and here you were locked in your own world as you swayed along to the music you created. When the song finished and the final note disappeared into the night, Luke finally got his courage back.
“That’s nice,” he said, causing you to jump. The crate of lettuce fell to the ground and you tripped, falling along with it. Luke rushed forward, already grimacing. “I’m so sorry,” he said, reaching for you. You took his offered hands and let him pull you to your feet.
“It’s fine,” you said, “I just didn’t expect anyone to be out here this late. You know, besides the guards.” Luke realized he was still holding your hands and quickly let go.
“Still, I shouldn’t have scared you,” he said sheepishly. You smiled at him kindly and Luke felt his heart skip at the beauty of it. “I’m Luke,” he introduced.
“(Y/N),” you said. “You’re Connie’s friend, right?” Luke nodded.
“Yeah we go way back,” he said awkwardly.
“Way back, huh?” you asked, trying not to laugh. “As in before the Walkers showed up?”
“Okay, maybe not that far,” he said with a soft laugh.
“It’s weird to think about time sometimes, don’t you think?” you asked as you bent down to start picking up the lettuce. Luke bent down and started to help.
“Here let me,” he said, grabbing more crates. “Least I can do for sneaking up on you.” You nodded and accepted his help, grabbing the food and the two of you began to finish your task together. As you carried food and supplies to storage, Luke would steal small glanced at you in the low light. If you noticed, you didn’t let him know. Although he thought at one point he saw you smile when you caught him looking at you.
As you worked, you talked about little things. He asked you about Oceanside and you asked him about living on the road. It was a normal conversation for the time. People were always wondering what others did before settling down somewhere. Your conversation with Luke was no different. Slowly, you began to open up a bit more. You weren’t sure why Luke was bringing so much out of you, but it felt nice to talk to someone other than Tara for once.
“What did you do before the Turn?” you asked him as you loaded the final crate of vegetables and locked up behind you.
“I was a music teacher,” Luke told you as the two of you began walking towards the front of Barrington. “What about you?” he asked.
“I worked on my family’s farm,” you said, stuffing your hands in the pockets of your jeans. “Then when I wasn’t taking care of the animals or tending to the crops, I used to sing at the local cafe. It wasn’t much, but they paid me enough to make a rainy day fund.” You leaned over and bumped his shoulder playfully, “Hey, maybe we can duet some time.” Luke smiled, looking down at his boots.
“I’d like that,” he said with a grin. You mirrored his look as you found a spot in front of one of the smaller campfires. Luke joined you, warming his hands by the flames. Your presence alone was incredibly comforting and Luke realized Alden had been right about you. Once he got you talking, you began telling him anything that was on your mind.
“You know what I miss?” you asked, fiddling with a piece of grass between your fingers. “Carnivals,” you said.
“Carnivals?” Luke repeated.
“Yeah, what’s wrong with that?” you asked with a laugh. Luke raised his hands in surrender.
“Nothing! It’s just not what I expected you to say,” he admitted.
“There was just something so weird and fun about them,” you said, looking off into the distance. “Sketchy rides, fried food, and rigged games, they were all a part of my childhood.”
“I can’t say I went to many as a kid,” Luke said, smiling over at you.
“Well, If I find an abandoned one in this hellhole, I will let you know and I will take you to a carnival. It probably won’t be too interesting without, you know, people, but I think we can make it work.”
“I’d like that,” Luke said.
“Okay, what about you?” you asked, turning to him, bringing your knees up to your chest. “What do you miss?”
“So much,” he said with a longing look. “I miss restaurants, cars, concerts, movie theaters, and especially just being able to walk outside without carrying a weapon.” Luke realized he was going on a bit of a tangent and quickly stopped talking, but you didn’t seem bothered by it all. It was rare when you got to talk to people like this, especially new people.
“I get that,” you said, quietly. “There was this one time,” you began, “I was doing a theme night at the cafe where I sang at and it was 80’s night. I was doing all the old ballads and there was this one audience member who kept giving me a standing ovation after every song, no matter what. I thought he was some creepy guy who just wanted to get noticed, you know?”
“Absolutely,” Luke agreed.
“So, I finish my set and then head to get something to drink when the guy comes up to me. He starts talking to me like we know each other and it isn’t until about ten minutes into the conversation, that I realize I did know him after all. He and I had grown up together and I hadn’t even recognized him. We weren’t even in the same state from when we were kids and suddenly this guy I knew as a kid just happened to show up at my gig.”
“Small world,” Luke said.
“That’s exactly my point,” you explained, “I used to think our world was so much bigger than this, but I guess it’s a lot smaller than I always thought. Like, what are the odds that I would meet you? A music teacher turned Walker-fighter?”
“Don’t tell me you’ve found a bright side to the Apocalypse?” Luke asked, amused.
“Would that be so bad?” you asked with a grin. “This is our life now, I don’t see why we can’t find those silver linings.” Luke thought about your words then and he realized you were right. Being on the run for so long, he had forgotten to just take a second and enjoy the little things that peeked through the darkness of the new world. He never thought he would find a home like Hilltop or even have friends like Alden. And yet, here he was, sitting in front of a campfire with a beautiful girl talking about carnivals and music and it made him smile.
“I guess it wouldn’t be bad at all,” Luke said, and then feeling bold, he reached out and gently brushed a leaf that had stuck to your shirt. Your eyes followed his movement and when he finally looked back at you, your eyes met.
“Has anyone ever told you that you have a beautiful smile?” you asked. Luke hadn’t even noticed he was still smiling.
“You would be the first,” he admitted.
“I don’t believe that,” you whispered. Suddenly, a yawn took over you and Luke noticed immediately. “Guess my fatigue is going to win in the end after all.” You stood from your seat and Luke followed.
“I should be getting to bed too,” Luke said, but it looked as if neither of you wanted to leave.
“Maybe I’ll take you up on that offer for a duet soon,” you said.
“Anytime,” Luke said, completely enamored by the way the fire lit up your features.
“Goodnight, Luke,” you said softly.
“Goodnight, (Y/N).” You stepped towards him and placed a soft kiss on his cheek quickly before turning and walking up to Barrington to get some sleep. Luke watched after you, his hand coming up to touch his cheek where you had kissed him. Slowly, he began to come out of the trance you had placed him in and then he noticed Connie as she walked back through the gates. Connie jogged up to his side and noticed his face.
“What?” she signed. Luke smiled at her and wrapped an arm around her shoulder.
“I just really like it here,” he signed with his right hand. Connie grinned at him and leaned into him as they walked into Barrington to where the rest of their family were sleeping.
Luke may not have figured out his exact place or purpose in Hilltop, but one thing was for sure, he wanted it to be near you.

The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning
Chapter 24: The Killing Moon
❧ Pairing: Daryl Dixon x Reader ❧ Era: Season 4 ❧ Pronouns: she/her ❧ Warnings: sexual assault/attempted rape, scary situation, mild swearing, violence, typical TWD ❧ Word Count: 4.7k
❧ In This Chapter: You find yourself conflicted with the presence of Jerome as he continues to bother you. Daryl takes matters into his own hands when Jerome's obsession with you becomes too much to handle. With tensions running high, you come face to face with the worst thing imaginable.
❧ A/N: All right, this chapter comes with a huge trigger warning. Our dear Reader goes through some terrible stuff, and it can be hard to read, so brace yourself. Don't worry, though; Reader is okay by the end but there's a series of events that definitely affects her. (Also, the title is in reference to a famous Echo & the Bunnymen song that I thought kind of fit the theme.)
Tumblr media
“So, presently, when the knight came riding slowly along,” you recited in your best narrator voice for the group of children sitting cross-legged in front of you, their sparkling eyes looking up at you with imagination running wild as you read to them, “jolly Robin stepped forward and laid his hand upon the bridle reign. ‘Hold, sir Knight,’ quoth he, ‘I prythee tarry for a short time, for I have a few words to say to thee.’” You lowered your voice a bit for Robin Hood’s voice, which the children always found amusing. “‘What are thou, friend, who doth stop a traveler in this manner upon his most gracious Majesty’s highway?’ said the Knight. ‘Marry,’ quoth Robin, ‘that is a question hard to answer. One man calleth me kind, another calleth me cruel; this one calleth me good honest fellow, and that one, vile thief. Truly, the world hath as many eyes to look upon a man as there are spots on a toad; so, with what pair of eyes thou regardest me lieth entirely with thine own self. My name is Robin Hood.’”
You paused for a moment, looking down at your watch and realizing story time went by faster than you’d expected. You placed the bookmark and then closed the book, to which you heard a slew of jeers from the crowd.
“Hey,” you said, “we’ll pick it up again tomorrow!”
“But I wanna know what happens to Robin,” said Mica.
“Robin saves the day like he always does. Now go do your chores.” You watched as the children poured out of the library to meet with Carol, who was scheduled to take the kids back to the kitchen and have them help prepare dinner.
“You all start heading there,” she said to them. “I’ve got to talk to Mrs. Dixon.” She smirked at you.
You rolled your eyes as you cleaned up after the kids. They’d had craft hour before story time, and it always left quite a mess. “Ha, ha, very funny.”
Carol bent over to help you clean up, gathering dirty brushes and piling them up in their bucket for washing later. “No wonder they’re all calling Daryl Robin Hood,” she said.
You laughed. “Yeah, they’re painting him, too.” You held up a crude painting of a green stick figure holding a crossbow and wearing a pointy hat with a motorcycle in the background, some kind of charming amalgamation of Daryl and Robin.
Carol took the painting from you and smiled. “That’s adorable. Have you shown it to him?”
“Not yet,” you said. “Luke painted it and he said he wants it hung up on the wall so I’ll probably do that. I’m sure Daryl will see it.”
She handed the painting back to you and you set it down carefully on your desk. “I really love these kids,” you said. “They’re surprisingly well-adjusted given the things they’ve gone through. I don’t know if I could have handled it so well.”
“They love you, too. Especially Patrick.”
You looked up at her and laughed. “Oh God, don’t remind me. He goes to every story time, and he’s always the oldest one.”
She laughed at the thought of the fourteen year old listening to you read children’s books to him. Then, she fell serious. “Listen,” she said, “I came in here because Jerome keeps asking about you, wondering where you are and what you’re doing.”
You frowned. “I know.”
It had been a week since Rick brought Jerome to the prison, and he was turning out to be more trouble than he was worth. Sure, he was a doctor and that was very helpful in the world you lived in, but he seemed to have some kind of obsession with you.
Rick had fulfilled his promise of making sure the two of you weren’t paired up for anything, but he always found a way to be near you when you weren’t in your cell. He was even seen once in your cell block, but Daryl stopped that pretty much as soon as it started, shoving him up against a wall and yelling in his face with the threat of shoving an arrow down his throat. Needless to say, he got the picture.
But that didn’t stop him from following you at a distance or asking around to find out where you were so he could keep an eye on you for when you would be alone. It worried you, and Daryl had to start hanging around you constantly as the only way to deter him from coming up to you, and then there was Rick always asking if you wanted him to kick him out. It was simply too much male attention.
You really did want Jerome gone, but you also thought it was just a phase, that he’d get over it and leave you alone. Maybe it was just you trying to avoid the guilt of sending him out into the world alone with no chance of survival, and maybe that guilt was residual from your less than healthy relationship with him, but it still seemed wrong.
He hadn’t really done anything other than follow you and creep you out a little, so you were sure you could handle it.
“I don’t like him, (Y/N),” she said. “He’s obsessed with you. I think you should take up Rick’s offer and kick him out.”
You sighed. “I don’t know, I don’t think it would be right.”
“If you don’t have Rick kick him out, Daryl will kill him,” she told you matter-of-factly. “Either way, he’ll die.”
You rubbed your forehead with your hand. “I don’t know, Carol. He’s a doctor, we need as many of those we can get. If he gets kicked out because of me, I’ll feel like it’s my fault.”
“No,” she said, “it would be his own fault for stalking you.”
You scoffed. “Stalking me?”
She nodded. “I’m just calling it what it is. But it’s your decision, not mine. Just… keep your knife on you.”
You had been keeping it on you. You always did. You found yourself reaching for it a lot more often since Jerome arrived, though.
That evening at dinner, Jerome’s eyes were particularly focused on you. He never sat at the same table as you and Daryl, but he was always somewhere not too far away, watching you. Tonight, his look was even more intense.
You were sitting with Daryl, Rick, Carl, and an older couple from Woodbury in the outdoor dining area where Carol was cooking up some sort of stew.
“God, this is good,” Rick said, nodding his head as he looked down at his bowl before taking another spoonful.
“Carol won’t tell anyone her recipe,” you said. “I’ve been trying to get her to spill but she says it’s a secret. At least I know there’s venison in it, right?” You turned to Daryl so he could confirm your guess, but his narrowed gaze was fixated on Jerome from across the way. You followed his gaze, and saw Jerome trying to look away to seem as if he wasn’t looking at you. “Daryl?” You touched his arm.
He grunted at you, not averting his gaze.
“Somethin’ wrong, Daryl?” Rick asked.
Daryl looked to you, then to Rick. “Nah.” He shook his head. He turned his attention back to Jerome, who was retreating back into the prison. “I’ll be right back.” He got up to leave, but you grabbed his hand.
“What are you doing?” you asked sternly.
“Takin’ care of somethin’,” he replied.
You were about to get up to stop him as he started following Jerome, but Rick grabbed your hand this time. “(Y/N),” he said, “let it happen.”
The cool light from the full moon shone down through the barred windows of the empty Cell Block D. Jerome’s lightweight footsteps echoed throughout the corridor, moving faster and faster as he swore he felt a heavy presence from somewhere behind him. When he got into his cell, he quickly turned around to latch the door shut, but a large-framed figure aggressively pulled the door away from his grasp.
He quickly shoved Jerome against the cold brick wall of his cell and held him up by fistfuls of his shirt. It was dark but the moonlight illuminated just enough of Daryl’s eyes, narrowed with bloodlust, and his flared nostrils and tight lip. The veins in his forehead bulged and pumped with such fury he hadn’t felt in ages.
“Told ya twice,” he growled, pulling Jerome slightly away from the wall for a moment then pushing him back into it with all his might. “Three strikes, you’re out, dickhead.”
He threw the slender man down to the concrete floor, causing an echo of the thud to reverberate throughout the Cell Block. He groaned in pain as he tried to stand himself up.
“Nah, you’re stayin’,” he huffed, kicking his shoulder with his steel-toed boots to send him back down, then keeping his foot there as he towered over him. “Listen ta me, you Ivy League prick—you keep your wandering eyes off my woman. She ain’t yours, she’s mine, and she’s made it clear she doesn’t want anything to do with you, but you just keep botherin’ her.” He lowered his foot even more until he heard the slightest hint of a crack in the man’s shoulder. He cried out in pain, but it didn’t stop him.
“Please!” Jerome cried.
Daryl removed his foot then picked him up again by the shirt to sock him across the face a few times. “You gonna leave my woman alone, asshole?!”
“Yes,” he whimpered.
Daryl shook his head as he watched the pathetic man writhe in pain on the floor. “I oughtta kill you for the way you treated her, for the way you won’t leave her be.” He thought for a moment, looking down at the bloodied face of a man who was the epitome of success back in the old world, but now so pitiful and weak. “Only reason you’re still breathin’ is ‘cause of her. She means more to me than puttin’ you out of your misery.”
You didn’t want Daryl to kill Jerome. He already had too much blood on his hands from Woodbury, and you didn’t want him to kill because of you unless you felt it was absolutely necessary. So far, Jerome hadn’t done much except creep you out, but that was enough for Daryl to kill him. Still, he was, as his brother would’ve said “whipped.” He didn’t like to think of it that way, but if you told him to jump off a cliff, it would take him longer than he’d like to admit to think about doing it.
Jerome rolled around, coughing up blood from his beating. Daryl leaned back down and grabbed him to look him in the eyes one more time. “This is your last warning. I catch you so much as standin’ in the same room as her, I’ll beat ya to death.”
He returned to your shared cell immediately after to clean up some of the blood he’d gotten on himself from beating Jerome. It wasn’t much, just a few splashes across his face and neck, but he didn’t want you suspecting anything.
When he heard the squeaking of the cell door, he knew it was you. You had a distinct way of opening the gate with the utmost care and softness. He’d memorized your pattern of slowly unlatching it and pushing it open as quietly as possible so as to not wake the “neighbors,” as you called them.
This time, though, it was pushed open faster with a sense of urgency.
“Daryl,” you said to him, softly but sternly, “what did you do?”
He was still turned away from you, trying to get the last bits of blood off him. He missed a few spots. Turning around, your eyes immediately narrowed to the now dried splotches of blood on his tanned skin.
“Did you… did you kill him?” you asked quietly, not able to look him in the eye.
He stepped closer to you tentatively. “No,” he said. “Roughed him up a bit, though.”
You sighed and ran your fingers through your hair, then started pacing as much as you could in such a small space. “This isn’t going to work, him being here. I wanted to believe it could, but I hate him. I want him gone.”
Daryl nodded, a little surprised you were admitting to it. He knew you hated him and wanted him gone, but he also knew your tendency to want to see the good in people and give them a chance. He was much less tolerant, but he understood.
“I’ll get rid of him, (Y/N). I will.” He closed the gap between your two bodies and pulled you into his arms, kissing your hair as he swayed you back and forth. “Just say the word.”
You breathed deeply into his chest. “I’ll talk to Rick, see what he thinks. I just… I don’t want to rid the group of a doctor. We might need him.”
“Don’t matter to me, that prick has got somethin’ in his eyes when he looks at you. I don’t like it one bit.”
You pulled away. “What do you mean?”
Daryl looked down at the ground and chewed his bottom lip. “I don’t even wanna say it, bad enough to think about it.”
You tilted your head, realizing what he meant. “Jerome’s not a rapist,” you said. Daryl flinched at the word coming out of your mouth. Even materializing the very possibility was enough to send him into a blind fit of rage. “At least, I don’t think he is.” It occurred to you just how much he had changed in the last three years. You didn’t know him, really. You were sure you never really did. He was so artificial with you, and he lied so much you couldn’t tell what was the truth anymore.
“Don’ wanna keep him around long enough to find out,” said Daryl. “We’ll talk to Rick tomorrow. He’ll understand, he’s gotta.”
That night, you were restless. Daryl had Glenn cover his watch shift to be with you. You seemed particularly disturbed when he came back from beating Jerome, although you had been acting on edge since he arrived. Still, he thought it best to stay with you.
You were glad. Secretly, you were frightened that Jerome would come into your cell again when you were alone one night, and coupled with Daryl’s mention of his fear that he would try to rape you, you were utterly terrified.
Although Daryl held you tightly in his arms as he usually did, you couldn’t stop tossing and turning. At one point you’d escaped from his grasp, and even being free of Daryl’s somewhat suffocating caress, you found yourself unable to breathe.
It came on you fast and sudden, the shortness of breath becoming more and more oppressive as you felt like the walls of the small cell were caving in on you. Your head was spinning and your heart pounding. You sat up in bed to calm yourself, but it only made you more frantic. As quietly as possible, you made your way out of the cell, being sure to take your knife with you. You needed some fresh air, and the same old stale oxygen circulating through Cell Block C wasn’t cutting it.
Luckily, you were quiet enough not to wake Daryl. He was a light sleeper, on account of having to watch his own back for most of his life, but you could tell from his soft snores that he was deep in sleep, and you had become an expert at not waking him on the rare occasions you got up before him.
You were sure he’d put you through the wringer if he knew you were going out in the wee hours of the morning just to get some fresh air, especially with your stalker living under the same roof, but you were also sure you’d suffocate if you stayed in that cell any longer.
Passing by a few early risers in the common area, you opened the door and let yourself out, immediately feeling the cool morning air flow through you. You walked around the courtyard for a while, hugging yourself as the wind penetrated your skin through the light, airy cotton of your nightgown and the flimsy knit sweater you threw on.
Goosebumps popped up gradually, causing every exposed hair on your arms to stand on end. You were cold, but it wasn’t an uncomfortable cold. It was more like a renewing cold, one that could chill a flower, but not freeze it.
The sun wasn’t going to peak up over the horizon for at least a few more hours, but you were content with the moon. You always preferred it, anyway. You could look at its beauty without going blind, and that was special to you.
As you admired the moon in all its glory, you felt a presence looming behind you. It was unwelcome and cold, distinctly different from the refreshing and beautiful coolness that hit your skin from the natural winds. No, this was a threatening cold, a terrible chill.
You slowly reached for the knife you were keeping in the pocket of your sweater before turning around to see Jerome lunging at you with a face of desperation and malice unlike any you’d ever seen.
Before you could even react, you were knocked to the ground and pinned underneath him. “Get off me!” you cried.
“Shut up,” he said sternly, your knife making a clattering sound as he threw it aside somewhere on the concrete. “This’ll go faster if you don’t struggle.”
Your eyes widened as you continued squirming underneath the strong grip he had on your wrists, keeping you pinned down. The rest of his weight was on his legs, which weighed down on yours. He was a slim, lean man, but he was tall and muscular, and his dead weight on your body was harder to maneuver under than it looked.
He clasped your wrists together above your head with one hand while you felt the other reach down between your legs and begin to hike up your nightgown. “No!” you cried in horror. “No, stop it! Stop!”
He looked down briefly as he aggressively pulled down your underwear, then started unzipping his pants. Your legs were trying as hard as possible to kick him off of you, but they could only squirm underneath the weight of him.
“Stop squirming,” he demanded. “It’ll be over soon, just let me do it.”
You looked around wild-eyed, trying to locate your knife. Once again, it had been loosened from your grip, but this time was the most scared you’d been. It wasn’t a walker trying to take a bite out of you, it was a living, breathing man trying to hurt you in the worst way you could imagine. It was worse than any nightmare you could even dream up. It was real, and it was looking you right in the eyes with its bruised and deranged face contorted with sickening intention.
You felt his cold, slim fingers grazing against the inside of your thighs as he tried to spread your legs a bit, but they only squeezed together tighter. “Damnit, (Y/N)!”
You faced him again to spit at him, sending a glob of saliva up into his eye. He instinctively lifted the hand he was holding your arms down with to rub at his eye. Before he could realize what he’d done, you socked him in the face with every ounce of strength in you, then loosened your leg enough to knee him in the groin. That weakened him enough to push him off you.
Lunging towards your knife, you picked it up before turning around swiftly to see that Jerome was standing again, holding his own knife. You looked at each other briefly before he hurdled towards you, aiming his blade at your abdomen. He didn’t have any kind of desperation or twisted lust in his eyes now, it was just rage.
Before his knife could penetrate you, you slashed a long, dark slit into his forearm. He yelped in pain, but still kept driving his knife towards you. Slashing his upper arm, he finally dropped his knife. He was still standing, so you slashed him once more across the plain of his thigh.
Now he was writhing on the cold hard ground, and you loomed over him, looking down at what represented to you now the last remnant of a part of your life you wanted to forget. The part of your life where you subjected yourself to someone who didn’t love you nearly as much as he loved himself, someone who took advantage of your blind trust in him, someone who made a fool out of you… and after all that, came back from the dead to torment you and try to rip away any ounce of self-worth you’d regained since you left him.
Holding onto his forearm in an attempt to slow the bleeding, he looked up to you and pleaded. “Please, (Y/N). I really do love you.”
Your lips quivered, both in anger and in sadness. You knelt down beside him, then raised your knife with both hands as you aimed it at his heart. “No!” he cried. “Please!”
You moved your gaze back up to his face, unrecognizable now between Daryl’s beating and the fear that lingered there. It wasn’t an emotion you’d seen on him before. He was too proud to be afraid of anything.
“Goodbye, Jerome.” Your voice was shaky, but your intent was made of stone.
Plunging the knife into his heart, you watched his eyes widen, locked somewhere between pain and disbelief. Faster than you’d thought, the life left his gaze shortly thereafter. You wished it lasted longer, just to know he was in the most pain possible. Still, his last breath did hit your face like that cool, cleansing wind.
After that, it hit you what you had done.
Pulling the knife out, you crawled backwards away from the corpse. Your panting nearly drowned out the sound of Daryl’s voice calling to you from a distance, coming closer with each breath that scraped against your dry throat.
“(Y/N)!” he bellowed, running to you in only those black jeans with holes in the knees you’d been meaning to mend.
Sat frozen and staring at the lifeless body, you felt Daryl’s hands grip your arms as he turned you to face him. “You all right?” he asked desperately. “Heard ya screamin’.”
You just shook your head, your mouth agape and your eyes wide in disbelief. He raised a hand to touch your cheek, then looked down at the corpse, noticing the unzipped pants, and then your underwear laying not too far away. “What happened?”
You swallowed before mustering up a few words. “He—he… tried to… oh God.” You wrapped your arms around Daryl’s bare torso, then nuzzled your face into his shoulder, letting out a strangled sob.
He held you against him tightly. Neither of you even noticed the small crowd huddled around you.
Using his grip on your back to hoist you up, he began walking you back to your cell. Your feet felt faint but they managed to get there with the help of his arm. wrapped around your waist.
He laid you down slowly, sure to cover you up with all the blankets and leaving a kiss on your forehead.
“I killed him,” you said, your tears still staining your voice. “He’s dead.”
“You were defending yourself,” he replied. “If you hadn’t killed him he would’ve done somethin’ awful to ya.”
“I know,” you said quietly, beginning to feel yourself cry again. “I just… never thought I’d have to kill somebody. Much less, him.”
He laid himself down next to you. “No one ever thinks they’re gonna have to do it till they do.” He brushed a stray hair away from your face, then used his thumb to catch the tears streaming down your face. “You did what you had to. He ain’t gonna hurt ya now. Just wish I could’ve protected you better.”
“You can only protect me so much. I have to save myself sometimes.”
He nodded. “I know, guess I’m still tryin’ to accept it. Just feel like I should be the one to keep you safe, all the time.”
You were silent for a bit, trying to compose yourself and will the tears away. When you felt you’d shed all your tears, you spoke again. “I didn’t think he’d try to do that.”
Daryl pulled you into him tightly. “Ya couldn’t have known.”
“I could’ve,” you said. “The way he was bothering me, following me. I didn’t even tell you he came into our cell that first night when you were on watch. He didn’t try anything, but he creeped me out. I should have known.”
He swallowed hard, trying his best not to burst out in anger and kill a man who was already dead. “Don’t talk like that. There was no way for you to know what he’d try to do. It ain’t your fault.”
You swallowed. “I was so scared… that look in his eyes, the way he… held me down… it was horrible.”
Daryl stiffened more, squeezing you tighter against him. You snuggled further into his chest, not wanting him to ever let you go. “I’m so sorry, baby. I’m so sorry.” He felt like crying, too. The helplessness and rage and sorrow and regret within him was so overwhelming he did shed a few tears, but you couldn’t tell. “He can’t hurt you. You’re safe now. You killed him, he’s gone. You did the right thing.”
The two of you were silent for a while, except for the muffled bursts of sobs you let out every once in a while until you fell asleep in his arms as you usually did. This time, however, you felt the most vulnerable you ever could in his arms that always kept you so safe and warm. Though you knew he’d never, ever hurt you or treat you the way Jerome did, you couldn’t help but feel like a porcelain doll. The same doll that cut you when you were little, so fragile and broken.
Daryl knew you were asleep, but he couldn’t sleep at all. He stared up at the ceiling and thought of how frightened you must’ve been, and how he wasn’t there to help you. One thing he was struggling to come to terms with in your relationship was that he wouldn’t always be able to keep you safe, and that terrified him to his core. There wasn’t much Daryl was afraid of. He didn’t flinch at walkers, and he was mostly ambivalent towards hostiles, but the thought of anything happening to you… it chilled him to the bone.
He first felt it that night the quarry was attacked, and he never stopped feeling it since. The reality that he could lose you, it was his worst waking nightmare. These days, you were safe at the prison, but the Jerome situation reminded him that nowhere in this world was safe.
When the sun finally rose, Daryl rose, too, trying not to wake you. He dressed himself in his usual ripped jeans, sleeveless button-up shirt, angel-winged vest, and poncho before slinging his crossbow over his shoulder and heading out to hunt.
Upon waking, you were saddened to see that Daryl had left. You were used to waking up alone, but in your fragile state, you were even more disappointed at his absence.
When you rose, you noticed a small piece of paper lying on Daryl’s side of the bed. He never left you notes, he always assumed you knew where he was (which you did).
Yet here it was—a simple but comforting note left to grace your still waking eyes with his charming chicken scratch, noticeably absent of capitalization and punctuation
It read:
gone hunting be back soon love you angel - Daryl

TWDG S4 First Playthrough
E1 - Ohh how I’ve missed these characters. S4 isn’t flawless, but I love it so freaking much. The collectables are one of my favorite parts, tbh. I’m such a simp for Louis and that’s never gonna change, ngl. He’s so cute and caring and ugh. I need me one of those. Clem is so damn lucky.
Unsurprisingly, I’m the worst at controlling this season in particular. I’m not used to the mouse sensitivity being so high with the camera when you’re walking around but I can’t change it because then it’ll be different when I’m picking choices and stuff. I freaking suck at all of the kill walker scenes, I seriously died like 5 times clearing them out to help the hunting party. I’m concerned about when I have to help James at his camp lol.
The confrontation with Marlon at the end is so damn good. I just always find it so perfect and well done. Also, Louis helping AJ up when he gets pushed down is so fucking sweet. I love him so much. Appealing to him really hit hard and seeing that “Your relationship with Louis has changed” is just oof. I know what CJ has been talking about all this time now lol.
E2 - All of the cuts when Clem and AJ are talking at the beginning are freaking gorgeous. Like, with them standing in the same exact position with the background flashing are just MMMMM. That was really, really well done.
Fuck Lilly. Fuck her trying to help Clementine stand up. She makes me so damn angry. And Abel twisting AJ’s arm and Clem begging for him to stop just breaks my heart. It makes me wonder how much of these interactions Violet and Louis saw, because they would have known to turn around the second they heart that first gunshot. Like, while they were sneaking up, what all did they hear? I told Vi to shoot Lilly because, once again, fuck her.
I’m still so damn bad at the walker killing scenes. It’s honestly sad how terrible I am at them, like, I don’t know why I struggle so much. I think a part of it is that in previous seasons, it would only be like 2 or 3 walkers, meanwhile in S4, it’s like 5 or 6. It’s also probably the fact that we have to control both the camera and Clem’s movements. I just can’t do both.
James is cute. I love him. He’s a sweet boi. Louis carrying AJ in is cute. I love him. He’s a sweet boi. When they get upstairs and AJ calls for Clem, he just sounds so scared and it hurts me. He’s still just a little kid and I couldn’t imagine my cousins that are his age going through these kinds of things.
The banter between Clem, Ruby and Mitch at the greenhouse is so cute and wholesome. Like, Ruby saying that condensation is a big word for Mitch and him daring Clementine to drink whatever is in the vials with her saying “not in a million years.” It’s just so sweet and so similar to modern jokes between friends, it just makes me so happy.
Also, Mitch is one strong boi. Like, Clem is strong, don’t get me wrong. She fuckin chops down trees and pushes adults off of balconies, but she couldn’t get that damn propane tank to budge, meanwhile Mitch comes over and picks it up with one hand. It reminds me of Peeta in The Hunger Games with how he could throw bags of flour over his shoulders super easily.
Another also, the way Mitch says propane annoys me lol. He puts the emphasis on the O instead of the A, so it’s prOpane instead of propAne. It’s just always bothered me and I had to complain about it lmao. Ruby is cute. I love her. She’s a sweet gorl.
AJ asking to sleep in Clem’s bed, her saying she’s still little, and him saying he slept better with her are just so damn cute. I freaking love their relationship so damn much. They’re just so sweet together and I can’t help but gush over them.
Louis talking about Marlon while shooting arrows is just a great scene to me, no matter how short it is. I don’t understand how people can still hate him so much when he explains how close they were and how guilty he feels, not just about kicking Clem and AJ out, but his role in Marlon’s death.
In the previous seasons, I think players became really desensitized to a character losing someone. 1 was honestly pretty good with Kenny’s loss of Duck and Katjaa with his anger and hyperfixations, 2 was a mess with Luke losing literally everyone he knows and being like “meh”, and 3 was also really bad with how Mari, Gabe and David can all die and three days later, Kate’ll still be like “let’s start a family uwu.” I think because of all this, people were really hard on Louis when he reacted like a normal human being over Marlon, which really sucks.
During the card game, when Louis reassures AJ about not being there for the old world and he and Clem kinda nod at her, is so ffffucking cute. I’ll never get over that. They shared a similar look their first night when he gave AJ the rest of his soup even though he was clearly super hungry. I cherish these looks between them and for once, it almost seems unbalanced with Violet lol. Like, I don’t feel like you get those looks with Violet no matter what you choose like you do with Louis those first two episodes. And Louis teasing Aasim about Ruby is really adorable.
And of course, helping him tune the piano is just UGH. He’s so damn cute and I can’t get over it. The scene has some of my favorite interactions between him and Clem. One, where he’s like “How do you feel about our imminent deaths?” and she doesn’t say anything and he says, “You know I’m here for you.” and it’s so CUTE. Two, he has her blow on the strings, she says “I can’t believe I fell for that.” while laughing and he goes, “It’s good to see you like this.” Like, how damn sweet is this boy? He sees that she puts on just as much of a cold exterior as he does with a humorous one, realizing that they both let their guards down around each other. Three, Clem calling Louis a weirdo and him saying that she likes that so in reality, they’re both weird.
Another thing I’ll never get over is Mitch’s death. It makes me hella salty and just grrrr. LOOK HOW THEY MASSACRED MY BOY!!!!
E3 - Willy crying over Mitch’s body is oof. Louis holding Clem’s hand is oof. I wish there was a third option during Abel’s interrogation where you could tell AJ that you don’t want him to watch rather than saying he doesn’t have to.
Again, unsurprisingly, I sucked at James’ camp with the walkers. I had to kill some of them because I literally couldn’t stay alive, so that made me angry. I also missed some of the collectables at James’ barn which also made me mad. AJ and Clem’s interactions with the salt lick are super cute. Talking to James about walkers is much more of an oof when you actually let Lee turn.
So, here’s my thing about the scene in the barn with the walkers and the chimes. No, I don’t think there’s anything more inside of walkers and I agree completely with the dialogue choice that it sounds like hell if that’s true. So James is saying they’re at peace when you go in and touch the times, but that isn’t accurate. They walk up to the chimes because it’s noise. You can’t hear them growling and moaning because the audio switches to music to try and make it more meaningful. James then proceeds to say that when walkers are alone, they’re innocent and harmless which is so inaccurate it hurts. What about Sandra in Clem’s house almost killing Lee? What about the walker that bit Duck? What about the one that bit Lee? Or the one in the shed while Clem stitched her arm? The one that dragged Luke to the bottom of the lake? It’s bullshit.
Louis’ date with Clem makes me hella salty only because he doesn’t get to give her anything like Vi gives her a pin. That’s also bullshit. He’s fucking cute though with being unable to light the matches and saying, “Have you met you?” and shit. Ngl, the first time he said he saw some magazines in the headmaster’s office, I was like LOUIS NO, but they were just about dating so it’s ok lmao. AJ and Clem with the ball and the “I love you” are so fucking adorable.
The hootenanny is cute. Ruby is cute. Louis saying “a woman after my heart” is cute. Him saying leprechauns are too hard to explain to AJ is cute. It’s all cute. Clem tells Ruby that purple was her dad’s favorite color, but it also was her favorite color in S1. If you stand around her and Katjaa for long enough, she’ll tell her that it’s her favorite. So, it’s apparently changed, and it makes me wonder what it is now.
I don’t believe Willy’s reason for getting sent to Ericson. I think that the real reason he was sent was really upsetting, so he never told anyone why he was actually sent there. So, when he learned about masturbation, he thought it was funny and used that excuse instead to make it funny.
I know that the shit with Louis’ parents really hurt him, but I always laugh so hard over the meme that’s like, “violet: my grandma killed herself in front of me 😔. louis: my parents got me the wrong gucci flipflops 😭😭😭.” It’s really tempting to say the dialogue option “worst party ever” but I never do lol.
The dream sequence with Lee always gets to me. Specifically, when we hear “Hey, sweetpea” and Clem looks up in shock, when she runs to hug him, when he’s like “Just look at you,” and when he leaves saying, “It’s time to go. There’s people that need you.” And goddammit, wHERE IS MY OPTION TO TELL HIM THAT I LOVE HIM??!?!?!!! I DON’T JUST WANT TO SAY THAT I MISS HIM!!!!!! I WANT IT ALL!!!!
I’m not even going to get into all of my problems with Violet’s scene in the cell because it makes me too salty and mad. There were some issues with Louis’, too, but not nearly as many. Just grrrrr.
I suck at the fighting sequences as well lol. Like, I got Clem punched so many times lmao. Also, where is my option to be like, “Hey AJ give me the gun” so Clem kills Lilly. Because I want her dead and I want James alive, but I don’t want him to be the one pulling that trigger again. Angery. Where are my choices, choice based game?
E4 - AJ’s talking for the previously on TWD gives me chills when he’s like, “But I remember all the rules. And the first one...is never go alone.” So good. If you can give me chills with just audio and screencaps, you did a good job. Y’all, everyone’s gotta be so damn sore after that explosion. Like, they running around a limber and shit but nah, everything’s going to hurt. And Clem’s climbing all over all this metal with fire literally right next to it, that shit would be so damn hot you’d burn your hands.
Fuck Lilly and her trying to make you feel bad as she’s getting away on the raft. Fuck the fact that you can’t shoot her afterwards. I make the choice three damn times to shoot her, and you still don’t let me have my choice. Bullshit. I hope she eats shit and dies.
Louis and Clem hugging on land is so cute. Violet getting blinded is dumb. It’s like they had to even the levels since Louis got his tongue cut out, which is just stupid. If they wanted to have them both hurt, they should have just set that they pulled out her eye or something instead of her getting blinded after the fact. I find it really dumb. I can’t even tell you how many times I died on the damn beach trying to get through the walkers. It shouldn’t be this hard to control your game.
As much as I hate James’ character flip in the cave, I do love that scene and I prefer it over the one without him. AJ really does have a lot of problems and if I didn’t know that not trusting him would kill Louis, I would have picked that. But I love Louis too damn much for that. He’s still so young and none of these are choices that he should have to make. And the fact that he chose to shoot Tenn in the neck adds to that. He doesn’t know to aim for a non-kill shot to stop someone like Clementine does, so his first real friend ended up dead. And his perspective on things after the game is still messed up, which you can tell by the “What Clem taught me” segment at the end.
The reunion with Louis is adorable. Him saying “longest damn minute of my life” is adorable. Him talking about his skylight and the house they’re going to build is adorable. I love all of it. I always have a hard time with the final touch, because I love that he wants a new piano, the nostalgia of a treehouse, and the dialogue “Thanks dad” for the skylight lol. Tenn’s face when Louis tells him he can help with painting is so fucking cute.
Minnie coming up to the bridge is so well done. It’s so ominous (I think the French version is the creepiest) and the look Louis and Clem share is just like “wtf, do you hear that too?” I died a million times during their fight scene as well because I can’t play this game for shit. I don’t know why, but I find Louis jumping the gap really attractive lol. Like, our boi woulda killed it in long jump lmao.
Y’all got an axe. You shoulda broke the damn lock off that gate. Smh.
As always, the whole process of Clem getting bit and her talking with AJ in the barn is heartbreaking. It gets to me every damn time, just like her and Lee’s does. It’s honestly hard for me to decide which one is sadder because while Clementine raised AJ his whole life, Lee became her family so quick and was cut so short. I prefer the choice of killing Clem just because you get more dialogue between her and AJ before he cuts her leg off, but I didn’t have it in me to tell him that, so I told him to leave her.
I have mixed feelings about the placement of the flashback to McCarroll Ranch. Part of me thinks it belongs in a different episode, but another likes it where it is. It just doesn’t seem to fit well where it was placed.
Much like 9 year old Clem being able to drag an unconscious Lee into the jewelry store, it would be impossible for 5 year old AJ to get her thicc ass into that wheelbarrow and push her to the school. I enjoy the headcanon that James arrived not too long after the amputation and helped get her back, but decided to stay in the woods because he didn’t want anyone to see him.
I missed another collectable in the damn shed which I’m salty as hell about. I love the reuse of Take Us Back, as many of us do. I just had to bring it up because it makes me emotional. Clem pushing AJ on the swing is adorable. The dinner scene is adorable. Violet’s voice is adorable. Louis kissing Clem on the cheek is adorable. It’s all adorable.
When Clem asks if she did a good job, I will always and forever pick the “Is she crazy?!” option because everything she did was incredible. She never had to take care of AJ. She wasn’t stuck with him. She could have left him behind so many times, but she never did. And like Javier said, not everyone is like her, not everyone wants to take care of a baby. And she fought like hell for him day after day, no matter what.
And you can see, especially in the cave scene when AJ brings up the fact that she’s still just a kid too, that she still has so much bottled up inside. She grew up so damn fast and became a goddamn powerhouse. Anyone that got in the way of her and AJ was going to end up dead. She never knew what it meant to be a parent before the world ended. She didn’t get to the age where you understand the choices parents make when raising their kids. And yet, she still raised a child all while raising herself in the middle of an apocalypse.
Clementine, you did a better job than anyone else ever could have.

TWD - Negan Imagine ~ “Morning Star”
Imagine about the the 11th episode of season 10.
Summary: While the Reader prepares along with the rest of Hilltop for the upcoming battle, Negan has no idea that his wife is actually inside the community Alpha plans to destroy.
Tumblr media
Bright sunbeams shone down on you as the carriage beneath you jerked a little, shaken by the potholes in the old roads that winded through the forest that lead you closer to Hilltop. You hadn’t even thought that you would be able to join the others at first, not with the staff shortage you currently had in the infirmary anyway, but things had turned out in your favor. The last three victims of Dante’s water contamination were doing pretty well again but the whole act had other consequences than just sick patients. Dante’d done a pretty good job on using, even wasting, the majority of Alexandria’s most important meds, had made sure that not much was left after and especially with the Whisperers sitting in your necks, it was more important than ever to stock up again. So that was your job now, getting new meds, judging which ones you needed and which ones you could pass on, and if things worked out, maybe recruit someone from Hilltop to come back with you to the infirmary to have another pair of helping hands. And you were glad about that, you needed to get out of the infirmary and Alexandria in general for some time. In the mostly empty infirmary you had too much time to let your thoughts get the best of you and whirl up new worries about Negan. They wouldn’t be gone now, for sure not, but being distracted in an environment you weren’t as used to as Alexandria was hopefully a good thing. Sighing you leaned back into the small pillow that was protecting your back from pressing directly into the rough wooden backrest and glanced around, watching as the green trees passed by. It was beautiful outside and part of you hoped that it could lift your mood a little. You were close to spiraling deeper into that dark hole with all those worries about your husband, the grief about Siddiq, the frustration about this whole Dante thing pooling within you and mixing with the shock of last night, you knew that, and you didn’t want to hit it’s bottom nor dive just a tiny bit deeper into it. So instead of dwelling more on your thoughts you tried to catch some of the conversation that was going on in the front of the wagon, still circling around the cave like it had a couple moments ago. “It was...”,you could hear Aaron say in his front seat as he leaned back to glimpse at Rosita,”It was Carol. There was some dynamite in the cave, we agreed on not risking it...she took it anyway.” He scoffed slightly, clearly frustrated while you could only think back at what had happened in the night you’d met Alpha at the border and her shot that would have almost resulted the war to break out earlier. She was troubled after Henry’s death, you got that and you didn’t even want to imagine what it was like to lose a child. Hell, you would do anything to get the head of the bitch that took it as well and you wouldn’t judge her on this but anger and grief were a dangerous mix, and it was putting people she cared about in danger, and that’s where shit like that had to be stopped. “We should look forward now though. That’s what’s important”, you heard Aaron quickly add, as if he was trying to not make the mess bigger than it already was before you glanced away from the conversation again and glimpsed back at the green forest around you, hoping that Hilltop wouldn’t be all to far away anymore. About a half day had passed since Beta had come back from his unsuccessful mission to bring the little spy back and in all honesty, in these kinda terms things couldn’t have worked better for Negan. The boss lady was definitely pissed at the weirdo giant for failing his mission which only let Negan rise in the skin freak ranks and just knowing that Gamma was in one of the communities was a whole different kind of jackpot. She’d spill all the secrets for sure, and with that, Beta’s failure wasn’t only a direct advantage to him but hell, also an indirect one to everyone at home. He was a little calmer than last night as well, after eavesdropping on the skin freaks that had accompanied Beta for some of the way and who’d grumbled about the deaths inside the walls. Some poor fuckers had to let their lives that night, he knew that but from everything he had heard and from trying to use the method of elimination, he was sure that Beta hadn’t gotten his hands on his girl. He couldn’t be one hundred percent sure, hell, he didn’t even know if she’d actually been in Alexandria that night, but he kept on telling himself that she was fine, that she had known what to do that night.  He kept on telling himself that she was okay. And while these were the advantages of Beta’s failure, Negan’s rise in the ranks got him to do a damn task the big ass freak probably usually did, and that was everything else than what Negan was in the mood for now. It was whipping Alpha’s arms with some thin branch for fuck knows which reason, maybe some fucking fetish, maybe because she thought that shit would get her stronger, he didn’t fucking know, all he knew as that he was growing tired of this crap. First that fucking kiss, now this shit. "Does this mean I've graduated to the next level of kinky Whisperer shit?”, he chuckled as he reached towards the branch with furrowed brows, trying to overplay how fucking ridiculous and absurd he actually found this whole situation. “You joke to hide your fear”, she said cooly, eying him for a moment while he let out a small sigh, pushing himself on his feet while she remained seated on one of the rocks that surrounded them. Well, she was sure partly right there, just didn’t he hide his fear, he tried to hide how weirded out he was right now. “You know, seems to me you've been cut up enough”, he grumbled as he watched more scars appear on her arm as she reached it out and pulled her sleeve further up. This shit was fucked up, holy shit was this fucked up. “Begin”, she insisted, closing her eyes as if she’d await the greatest fucking gift in the next moment before Negan furrowed his brows once more at her until he finally lifted the slim branch up and rushed it against her forearm, cutting into her flesh and leaving a red mark. She smiled, she fucking smiled as she glimpsed at her arm before she pushed it forwards again. “Again”, she mumbled, and so he did, not trying to argue anymore. Fuck, if she wanted this, she was gonna get it. The second lash left a brighter red mark on her arm than the first, leaving her looking even more satisfied than before as she stood up from the spot and abruptly took the branch out of his hand, just to nod towards him. “Now you.” Oh what the fuck. What was this crap gonna turn into now?  “Ah, does this mean we're bonded for life?”, he joked, trying to somehow process whatever the fuck was actually going on here. “Depends”, she said just as ice-cold as ever, while he slowly began to push the sleeve of his leather jacket up, just trying to get it over with as she rushed the branch in the very next moment against his arm “Aah”, he let out, half in pain, half in a chuckle while a wide grin painted on his face, his body’s odd way to cope with this bullshittery just as another whip rushed against his arm and elicited another flinch and chuckle to mix with one another. Well, at least that crap was done now. “Well done”, she said with a nod, tossing the branch away before she reached to the back pocket of her pants where she usually kept her mask, only with the difference now that she pulled a different one out and held it towards him. “You will need it tonight”, she added as soon as she caught his furrowing brows and the confused look on his face. Hell, was that his reward now for this whipping session? Getting to wear a dead dude’s face? ”For what?”, he asked, glancing down at her while the eerie smile from before started to grow on her lips again. ”Tonight, the enemy will die.”
The sun was already starting to near the skyline of the trees as you finally rolled through Hilltop’s gates and could hop from your crammed position on the wagon onto the ground to shake your legs a little out, glancing around the place you hadn’t visited in god knows how long. It hadn’t changed all too much, there was a whole new field of crops in front of the gates and some more stands and smaller houses in its inside but for the most part if looked pretty similar to the last time you’d walked in here. Mary hopped down the wagon beside you, a little insecure as she started to follow Aaron, before Rosita moved down as just as you grabbed the first empty box that was supposed to be filled with meds when you’d leave again and heft it down the wagon. ”I’ll go to the doc here right away and get some painkillers, want me to tell him you’ll come in later?”, she asked as she stopped beside you, nodding to the wound that was hidden underneath the boasting bandage you’d renewed earlier on your way here. ”Yeah, please. That’d be great”,you said, nodding as she was already starting to walk towards the trailer that had a big red cross painted onto it,”Thank you.” ”All good”, she responded back just as you got back to the wagon, reaching towards the medical bag that was filled with the couple bandages and salves you’d used a few from for Rosita, just as the sound of a familiar motorcycle sounded through the air. A little irritated you glanced up, just in the very moment you caught it rushing past the wagons through the gates, carrying Daryl and Lydia on the back and slowing immediately down before it came to a complete stop in the middle of the road that let to the mansion. For a moment you let the bag go, curious, a little irritated but relieved that your half brother was back and had found Lydia, while you made your way up to them while they attracted Yumiko, Luke and a couple other people who’d been standing on the mansion’s porch to make their way over to them as well. “My mother's coming”, you heard Lydia say just in the moment you reached them, immediately stopping you as an ice-cold shudder washed over you the moment Lydia’s voice hushed. ”The herd’s on its way”,Daryl grumbled, scoffing thickly as he shock his head and glimpsed at the people in front of him while you felt like you were glued to the spot for a moment,”Far away but it’s coming.” Curses sounded through the air, mixing with people starting to ask what they were supposed to do now just before Daryl’s voice sounded again through the air, shutting them down for a moment. ”We’ll meet up in the main room, we can talk it out there.” ”Good idea, I’ll get everyone”, Luke said, quickly nodding before he turned around and quickly hurried up the stairs, and while most eyes were on him in this moment, yours were on your half-brother. He was starting to lead these people and you doubted that he realized what he was doing there nor that he’d ever thought he would. But he was, he was leading them and for a moment you were a little taken aback by how easily the others followed him. “Hey”, you heard him suddenly say as he turned around, glancing a little irritated at you as he nodded towards you while Lydia vanished behind Luke in the mansion, ”Why’re ya here too?” ”We don’t have many meds left back home. Need to get new ones, maybe get someone to help out but I guess I can forget that now”, you gulped, feeling the tension rise within you as you started to realize that probably thousands of dead assholes were on their way to this small community, and you were stuck in its middle. Still, for a moment you got distracted from that as you glanced at Daryl, first noticing how battered he looked now that he stood right in front of you. He had some makeshift bandages wrapped around his hands and his leg, the one on the latter big and partly doubted in a dark red color. ”It’s nothing”, he said before you could even say a word, though he quickly let out a thick sigh as he caught the glance in your eyes. He couldn’t bullshit you, not you. That even counted after all these years. ”Was a fight after the cave...with Alpha, got her good too”, he reluctantly said, just adding onto the tension that was cursing through you before he quickly spoke up again,”Don’t have time to get that treated.” ”We have five minutes for sure”,you mumbled, glimpsing at the stubborn man. The wounds looked bad, especially the one on his leg and you knew him more than well enough that he’d even downplay an injury if his leg was shortly before falling off.  ”Will take some time till Luke and the others will get everyone in the meeting room. We could use that time window, I still got some stuff in the wagon”, you added, nodding towards the wagon you’d spent the last hours on before you caught Daryl shifting from foot to foot before he reluctantly started to nod. ”Mhmm okay.” ”Lydia made it”, Daryl grumbled as you found yourself sitting next to him the back of the wagon, cleaning the wound on his hand just to be sure even though it definitely already looked better than you expected, especially knowing that she’d done it in the middle of the muddy woods. ”Did a pretty good job, really”, you said, putting the disinfection liquid and the cloth to the side before you grabbed  one of the fresh bandages in the bag,”Is she okay too?” ”Yeah, made sure”, he nodded, though he seemed to tense up for a moment as he gulped thickly, shifting uncomfortably as you reached back for his hand. ”Couldn’t find ‘em”, he mumbled, barely audible as you had to take a moment before you realized that he was talking about Connie and Magna, and judging from how he was looking right now, it was hitting him harder than he lead on, especially because it was Carol who’d caused the cave to collapse. ”I’m sure they’ll make it out. Don’t know them well but they’re survivors...and smart. they’ll find a way”, you said, trying to give him a small but genuine smile as you wrapped the bandage securely around his hand and secured it, before starting to move to his leg.  ”Hope so”, he nodded, gulping thickly once more while you decided to not bore further. It was too fresh and if he’d want to tell you, he would, but right now, it didn’t seem like he wanted to talk to anybody about this more than he already had. So instead of speaking you started to unwrap the bandage on his leg, carefully to not hurt him more before a sharp breath fell from your lips the moment you uncovered the wound in its entirety, cleaned but deep and probably caused by a large hunting knife that had dug itself into his thigh. ”Holy shit, Daryl that’s deep-” ”Just get a tight bandage ‘round it...please”, he cut you off, already knowing that you’d tell him what he’d really need with a wound like that before you glanced from the boasting wound to him and realized that he’d already made a decision. His stubborn head had become set on just getting the most necessary for his injury before heading inside to make a plan, you wouldn’t be able to change anything about that. ”Alright...”, you said, sighing slightly as you moved closer and started the procedure you had done on his hand all over again, starting at cleaning the wound carefully from the last bit of any mud before starting to get a bandage around his leg, with just enough pressure to make sure it wouldn’t start bleeding again and judging from its look, it already had done so more than enough. ”There you go”, you said as you finally finished the bandage watching as Daryl looked at it before he moved himself with a push from the wagon, wincing slightly as the foot of his injured leg met the ground before he looked back at you. ”Thank you”,he nodded, shifting a little to get the bandage to sit more comfortably before he nodded towards the mansion,”Now let’s get inside” Shock was still stuck in Negan’s bones as he walked through the forest, still trying to process the news of Alpha’s planned massacre at the communities as he made himself on his way to try to change this whole shitshow into something else. He couldn’t let it come so far, he couldn’t let her nor this fucking herd of dead assholes come close enough to any of the communities his wife could be located in. First and fucking foremost, he couldn’t let that happen to her but he also couldn’t let that happen to anyone she cared about, he wanted to protect her from that pain and that part counted for Judith and any other kid that was stuck in there too. He was in here to work against that whole crap, not to be part of it. Clasping that fucking stinking mask in his hand he slowly moved out of the forest onto a small clearing that was streaked with a small creak, that splashed softly against the rocks Alpha was standing on, almost looking as if she was meditating. “Got a little unsolicited advice...everyone's favorite kind, I know, but I can't help myself. And maybe I thought of an idea that you haven't yet”, he said as he moved closer, though remaining a little behind her as she didn’t even move an inch, only opened her eyes as she heard his voice. “I respect a well-deserved massacre”,he said, clearing his throat as he shifted a little from foot to foot,”Some people they just have it coming. And I get why you want to take out Hilltop and Alexandria. It would just It would feel good.” Still no reaction, so hell, he was just gonna keep going, he had to take this chance. “But you know what might feel goddamn fantastic? Getting those assholes to surrender, bend a knee”, he said, slowly growing a little impatient and nervous, though he sure did everything in his might not to let it shimmer through,”Alpha, we can get them to join us.” Inwardly, he was cursing to himself as he still saw no reaction coming from her, part of him asking himself if he should talk more and add something onto it just before he finally heard her voice sounding through the air. “Explain.” "You heard them out there. We have to go. Even if you took out half the herd in that cave, she's got thousands left. You can't stay here”, Lydia said as she paced around the main room that was filled up with each Alexandrian that had come over to the community and Hilltop’s highest members, discussing what should be done next with the dead army marching closer to you with every moment. “The skins could march straight to Alexandria for all we know”, Earl said as he shifted over his spot on the couch while Daryl stood next to you and gripped the backrest with his hands, leaning a little forward to glance at the group. "Yeah, we're right in their way”, he mumbled, his fingers squeezing the cushion as if he was trying to get rid of the tension that laid over him this way before Earl cleared his throat again. “Maybe she goes around us.” “She doesn't need to go around you. She'll just run through you”, Lydia said, the stress clearly sounding through her voice as you watched Jerry shaking his head vehemently. "I'm not running again - Hell no.” " Lydia's right. We can rebuild anywhere”, you now hear Diane chime in while you could feel yourself growing more uncomfortable the more your mind started to realize how real everything about the growing threat was.  “Come on. We can't. How many scouting missions you been on, son? Hundreds? Have you ever seen a place like Hilltop?”, you could hear Earl say, and while the thought of fighting a herd more than just a couple sizes larger than the one that had once broke into Alexandria, there was something right about what he said. There weren’t many places the Hilltopers could go to, Alexandria had its capacities too and every place that might have potential in terms of buildings had fallen victim to nature. Building a place like this one up again, that would take a whole lot of time and effort, and in the current situation, no one in here had that. The only chance they had if they fled was letting the herd pass by and then rebuild of what was left of hilltop, which to you, seemed like the best possibility right now. “ No”, Aaron grumbled before you could think any further.  “We have a few dozen able-bodied fighters here. Maybe. You like those odds? - 'Cause I don't”, Yumiko said, standing up from her spot on the bench as she glimpsed around the room, looking at Aaron as he shook his head again. “Neither do I.” “Now, we don't have to die here. We're going to have to fight, and if we die, we die fighting for a place that means something. Can you think of a better way to go?”, Earl nearly cut him off and that’s where you and by the look on everybody’s else's face the entirety of the room disagreed with him. You weren’t gonna die here. You came here to get some new meds and recruits for the infirmary, you weren’t gonna just let Alpha’s herd kill you when there were other ways to get out of this situation, even if this meant that Hilltop was lost. “Yeah. We go with my daughter's life intact. And Judith's and Ezra's and Adam's. You want me to keep going?”, Aaron quickly said, almost snapped, back, the tone in his voice strained and angered while for the first time in a long time, you agreed with him.  You had no plans to go on a suicide mission just to play along with the others the big heroes that go down in a fight, especially not on the costs of children. There were times you just had to give in, no matter how bitter it was, and flee, if you wanted to survive, and one of these times had come now. “Alright, let's get the kids out first. Everybody, pack up. We're going to Oceanside”, Daryl said, motioning his fingers to spell Oceanside while his voice calm compared to the others,”Grab weapons, food whatever you can. We'll regroup there.” Hilltop seemed like a bustling beehive as everybody started to pack up, pushing the most important supplies and weapons into the wagons while the first one with the Lydia, Judith, RJ and a couple of other kids had left along with Daryl and Diane about a fifteen minutes ago. You were just about to pack a few light spears into the back of one of the larger wagons as you heard the voices becoming louder for a moment mixing with the sound of Daryl’s motorcycle, enough to make you back away from the wagon’s entrance to see him moving back into the community, closely followed by the wagon with the kids. “What happened?”, you heard Aarons voice call out for them, as the confusion and moreover the thought that this couldn’t mean anything good shot through you as you walked towards the small group of people that started to grow around Aaron and Daryl. “She blocked all the roads. Means they're closing in on us. If we had a window to get out, we just missed it”, he scoffed, and with these few words washed a new wave of tension over you. This was bad, this was fucking bad. “But we can't stay here”, Kelly said, her voice breaking as she tried to suppress the tears that started to pool in her eyes,”You said...you all said we can't stay here.” “We can call Alexandria, right?”, Luke asked, his voice letting it shimmer through that he was rather grasping for straws than actually believing in what he was saying ,”Call Alexandria, and they'll get fresh fighters here, right? And...And it's not just gonna be us. It's not gonna be just us, right?”  “Oceanside can't get here. Alexandria, either. Not in time. Not after what happened. We're on our own”, Diane mumbled while you glimpsed at Daryl, meeting his glance for a moment that had an odd glance stuck in him, tensed as before, but there was something else about him you couldn’t quite grasp yet. "Divvy up your arsenals. We got catapults up on the walls. And a damn good militia. This is what you've all been practicing for”, Earl’s stern voice ripped you away from Daryl and lead you glance immediately to him as he stomped towards the group,” Come on, now, people! Do whatever you need to get your heads on straight! This is gonna be the fight of our lives.” This was enough to let the group sprawl out again over the place, while no one, including you, was as pumped up about this fight as Earl seemed to be. Still, there was no way past it now and you had to get through it now, no matter what. For another moment, your eyes laid on Earl before you caught Daryl moving closer to you, still with that odd look on his face as he finally rose his voice again. “The roads, that was your hus-”,Daryl started to say, stopping at the last word as if it tasted like poison in his mouth while his glance and just the beginning of this word washed an ice-cold shudder down your back ,”Negan’s with them now. He’s blocked ‘em.” “What?”, it nearly instinctively slipped out of your lips, even though one part of this whole accusation didn’t come as a giant shock or surprise to you. You’d suspected he’d infiltrated himself into their ranks to destroy them, but that last part rubbed you the wrong way,”How do you know that’s him?”  “Trees blocking the road, some guy hanging strangled from a tree, remembers you of something?”, he said, a thicker frown growing over his face as he forced you to remember the hours before the bloody night in the clearing and you couldn’t even completely disagree with Daryl on this. It seemed like the same strategy, but who knew, maybe he’d done it on purpose.  “But if that’s him, I’m sure he’s got a plan”,you said, gulping thickly as you looked at him, trying to choose your words right to not anger him to the extent that he’d just storm off without hearing your whole point and putting your relationship back to square one,”He’s probably just trying to earn their trust to take them down from the inside. He’s playing them.” “Nah”, he quickly shook his head,”He’s one of ‘em now.” “No, no he’s not. He might be at their camp but he’s not one of them”, you repeated yourself, while you didn’t even see anger growing over Daryl’s face but rather desperation, maybe even pity while the frustration within you grew. You didn’t want this to start this debate over Negan all over from the beginning, not again. “You’re blind”, he said, glimpsing at you through the brown strands of hair that hung into his face,”You’re so in love with him you don’t see the truth about that asshole.” “That’s not true”,you said, growing more desperate as well while you tried to grasp for straws,” Daryl, You saw the note he left for me.” “Yeah, maybe started out that way”,he grumbled, clenching his jaw as he shook his head again,”But asshole stays asshole. Think he saw that he’s free now...he switched you against freedom.” “He wouldn’t do that”, you tried to urge again while you felt dumb for repeating yourself over and over again as you just didn’t know what else to tell him to believe you on this. “He did”,he grumbled again, stepping a little closer to you as he gulped thickly,”and he doesn’t deserve how much you protect him. He’s scum.” “He’s not and I know him”,you responded quickly, feeling a shot of pain boring through you just having to hear Daryl talk like that about him before you shook your head, trying to keep your cool,”and I know how naive I sound to you. But I’ve been with that man every day for over eight years. I know how he thinks, he’s got a plan, you’ll see.” “Yeah, we’ll see”,he grumbled, while you could tell that he didn’t put one bit of belief or hope into your words as he looked at you one more time before he moved past you towards the mansion ,”Hope you won’t be too disappointed.”
Explaining to Alpha how he thought he could make them bend the knee had been one fucking tricky thing to do. It had taken a whole lot of effort for sure, talking his mouth off on how favorable it would be to have a bigger army while he smeared some more honey around her mouth and eventually, he felt like he might have persuaded her by topping her original plan of closing the roads a little off. He didn’t like what he had to do but it was necessary, the roads would have been closed either way and everything else just wouldn’t have stilled her thirst for blood. So right now, he was standing on a small cemented road that paved its way though the forest. A tree was blocking the street, one dead Hilltoper hanging from a tree beside the fallen one, their undead corpse growling and flailing its arm slightly while the rope cut into its throat. This one and all the others who’d hung on the other streets had been long dead before they’d gone up there, already killed last night when Beta had made his way to Alexandria and had killed another outpost on the way, recruiting new “guardians” for the horde in this night.  It had been seven in total, all wearing Hilltop’s armor, and he didn’t enjoy seeing particularly that guy in front of him up in that tree. He didn’t know the others, but the guy who was hanging from the tree there had been a Savior once, not a high ranking one but high enough that Negan have had a couple conversations with him during the time he’d ruled and enough to still remember the nickname he had for him: “Skinny Joe”, the counterpart to “Fat Joe” who’d had met his demise at Daryl’s hands. He wasn’t getting sentimental here, fuck no, but he’d be a liar if he’d say seeing one of his former loyal men in that tree would do nothing at all to him. Still, it was worth it as he glimpsed to his side and saw how Alpha nearly smiled satisfied, looking at the dangling corpse up there and that facilitated the feeling in him that his plan might work.  ”This was the last”, she said, the odd grin widening a little as she nodded to the skin freaks behind her and then back to Negan, “It is time to gather.” A half hour later, your mind was still occupied fully by Daryl and Negan as you walked through the wagons and stands within Hilltop, trying to find a way to distract yourself and simultaneously prepare for the battle.  Daryl hadn’t shook just an inch on your belief that Negan had a plan, nor on the belief that he was working towards destroying them from the inside, but the fact that Daryl thought he had merged into a full-blown whisperer bothered you unspeakably, not mentioning the side effect that soon, the whole rest of this community would think so as well.  You had no idea how this whole thing would go down tonight, if it would just be the herd or them as well, but if the later was true, first thing after Alpha and Beta people would point their weapons at would be him and there was nothing you’d be able to do to persuade them of the opposite.  No one of Hilltop’s head members would believe you that he was working against them, that if he was among them even tonight, it would be part of his plan to gather their trust.  That’s the way Negan thought, that was his type of strategy and all you could hope for was that Negan would be somewhere in the back, somewhere in safety. But that for sure depended on how deep he was in this whisperer misery as well. Negan was a sly fox, a charmer on top and he for sure knew how to handle people even if they were as fucked up as those skin freaks. Maybe he’d already made his way to the core of its ranks and hell, maybe he had tried to lessen this attack as well. Either way, there was no way you were gonna find that out before tonight, if at all and you first had to concentrate on surviving the next hours if you wanted to just have the chance to see him again. Sighing thickly you made your way into another stand, trying to stop your mind from wrapping itself around new confusing thoughts as you reached towards a sharpening stone. You’d get a machete, spear or whatever else they’d want you to use from hilltop, but if all things failed you’d still need a sharp knife and you couldn’t necessarily give that attribute to yours anymore. Grabbing the stone you made your way back to the mansion, hoping you’d find a free spot on its stairs as you winded yourself through the mass of people who were preparing their weapons as well, or were getting themselves warmed up until you finally got to the mansion’s porch that was filled with a couple of people, including Judith who was bowing over Daryl’s vest, some paint, brushed and a glass of paint daubed water sprawled around her. “Watcha doing?”, you asked as you sat down next to her onto the stairs, glimpsing at the part of the vest you could see from your side. “Painting uncle Daryl’s vest. I’m fixing the wing, I’m almost done”, she said, moving a little to reveal the part she’d been painting in a light blue that got now primped with some small white start at its end. “Looks great, sure he’s gonna love it”, you said, giving her a smile as you shifted a little over the wood, trying to get a little comfortable before you grabbed your knife and started to move the blade over the sharpening stone, just before you could see Judith stirring a little beside you before she moved a bit away from the vest and glanced at you. “Do you think Negan will hurt us?”, she asked, her voice trembling a little at the end, though you could hear that she was trying to keep it calm while a painful sting shot through you just hearing her question and you didn’t want to imagine how Negan would feel if he’d hear this now. “No, no he won’t”, you said, shaking your head softly and trying to keep the small smile on your face though you had a hard time doing so as you could feel the tension within you risking. “But he blocked the roads”, she mumbled, sadness filling her eyes a little more as she sat down next to you, moving the vest that looked finished by now next to her while you let out a small sigh. This was gonna get tricky. “Your uncle Daryl and I disagree on this but-”,you mumbled, halting as you tried to collect your thoughts and explain it to her in the right way,”I think he is trying to make them believe he’s on their side to help us take them down in the end. Like one of those double agents from the book you read some time ago.” “You think?”, she asked, her eyes growing a little more hopeful as she looked at you. “I’m sure”, you nodded, giving her a slightly bigger smile now before you let out a nervous but soft chuckle, trying to loosen yourself up to let that whole tension fall not only from you but her as well. Even if she was a tough kid, she was still a child and she shouldn’t have to worry about this as well beside the whole whisperer shit and tonight’s battle. ”C’mon you know him too, he sometimes has a bit odd ways to get to a goal. Remember his solutions to your math problems?” “Yeah, they were weird sometimes”,she nodded, laughing softly as he fumbled on the brush that was still in her hands. “Yeah”, you said, glimpsing down at her as you could gladly tell that she was looking much more relaxed than a couple moments ago,”See, he’s taking a special way to help us now too, just like he had very special ways to solve your math problems.” She nodded again, responding to the small laugh that left your lips, facilitated by the nervousness and tension that was still stuck within you before she nodded towards the vest, “I’ll give it to him now.” “Yeah, do that. Bet he’s gonna put it right on”, you said, giving her another smile as she stood up and grabbed the vest. “I hope so”, she said, glancing one more time at the painted wing before she headed inside, leaving you to get back to trying to distract yourself with the sharping stone. Dragging the blade along the stone you focused on it's slight twinkling in the evening sun, right before you glanced up as you heard footsteps walking right towards you. “You can shoot, right?”, you heard Diane ask as she got closer, holding a bow in one hand and a quiver with arrows in the other just before she reached you. “Yeah”, you nodded, stopping the dragging movements for a moment. “Good, we need another one in the back, would you join?” “Yes, sure”, you said, nodding once more as you laid the knife and the stone to your side so she could hand you both and just in the moment the wood of the bow smoothed against your palm and you gripped the belt of the quiver, a panicking voice echoed through the air and sent another shot of tension through your body within the matter of seconds. “The herd is coming!” Walking like a fucking dead asshole was harder than Negan had thought, especially when you had much more brain activity than those fuckers going on that allowed him to have thoughts and even worse, worries. He still believed that he might have persuaded Alpha with his tactics, but with her, you could never know for sure. The sky seemed to become darker with every slurfing step he took, looking through the holes of his damn mask to have a little bit of orientation while he tried to keep exactly those thoughts from taking his whole mind over. It was Hilltop. The odds that she was there were as fucking small as a fly’s sack. Hell, the odds that anybody else from Alexandria like Judith or Lydia were there was just as damn small.  He shouldn’t try to wrap his head around this shit anymore and just hope that things would work out as he intended, that they’d try to make them bend the knee and they’d use the right moment to attack or what fucking ever, just so this damn massacre wouldn’t start here and move to Alexandria in the end. And just as he tried to ban these thoughts out of his head, he heard the skin freaks starting their whispery chant again as they moved with the dead towards Hilltop. Night had fallen over Hilltop when you found yourself standing before its gates, with the bow in your hand, an arrow loosely clamped into its string while the leatherglove that smoothed against your skin allowed you to hold it securely. It was still pointed downwards for now, waiting for the moment the herd would appear but in these moments, there was an eerie silence, only disrupted by the trembling breath by everyone next to you and the echoes of the thousands of groans that came from the forest. Hilltop was prepared, that was the only thing that made your heart beat calm down a little as you glanced around yourself. At first, about two hundred meter away from your spot, there was an electrical line spanned by Eugene and Rosita this afternoon that would hopefully split the first walkers in two that would try to make their way towards you. Then, if this part would fail, and everybody knew that this moment would come earlier or later, the fence was the next step. It was Hilltops regular fence that protected the crops that were located behind you and in front of the gates, a quite study fence with wood pillars and a whole lot of branches and undergrowth in between that would cushion the walker masses at first and which had been strengthened over the last hours.  After that, the melee fighters were located, at first the ones with the medieval looking shields and their swords, directly behind them anyone else with a melee weapon, from spears to machetes, to morning stars like the one in Daryl’s hand right now. And then, there was your line, the ones with bows or slingshots like the one of Kelly, and melee weapons that were put on the ground beside you after the arrows would be gone. After that, only the next cushion zone of the crops followed for about fifty meters, and then the gates. You could feel the ground starting to quiver beneath your feet as the heard started to roll closer and the groans started to grow louder with every second, sending chills through your body as you gripped the wood of the bow tighter. Only a couple more moments. A shivering breath fell from your lips as you saw the first dead appearing in the dark right  as the first walker met the electrical line and sparked red sparks through the night as it burned through its throat and cut its rotting head off right from it’s neck. “It works”, you heard Yumiko mumbling beside you as you tried to keep the hope in you controlled as the first full line of dead met the line. More sparks flew, you could see the electricity burning  bright yellow lines into their bodies as they pressed against it, more and more while only a few lost their heads, while the taller majority pressed themselves only deeper into it, doing nothing more than burning their torsos. “Fuck”, you mumbled gulping, nearly too quiet for anyone else around you to hear as a load boom made you flinch back, right before you had to watch the electrical line break down into pieces as it sunk to the ground and let the dead march towards you without anything stopping them anymore. “Formation!”, you could hear Aaron scream through the night, immediately followed by the metallic booms of the rising shields clicking against one another while you gulped thickly and grabbed the bow in your hands even tighter, enough for your knuckles to turn pale as your heart beated up into your throat.  “On my command, splitting ranks!”, you heard him scream again, cut off for a moment by the loud groans of the dead before his voice echoed once again through the night,”And break!” The first group split on his command, marching towards the fence as the first dead were only a couple feet away from it anymore and you glanced to your side, watching as the others started to nod to each other. “Now”, you heard Yumiko call out beside you, shooting another wave of adrenaline through your body as you pushed the bow forward, adjusted the grip on the string before pulling it back until your leather clad fingers rested against your cheek and the arrow darted into the walker mess, before you let it go and watched it shooting into the ranks of the dead. Grab a new arrow, span it into the string, bow into the front, pull the string back, adjust and release.  That’s what you did over and over again, almost mechanically as you watched the others fighting in the front, saw their weapons dive into the rotting heads, smashing skulls while more walkers pushed into the limp bodies that were hanging into the branches. You could feel yourself tensing more with each shot, could feel the pulling of the string tearing on your arm’s muscles while the adrenaline in your body kept you going, forcing you to near the edge to switch into the survival mode. Breathing heavily you reached back into the quiver, feeling sick by the thought that you didn’t even had that many left, especially with the massed of walkers surrounding the fences that wouldn’t be stopped by the couple arrows you had left. And just as you moved the arrow to clip its end into the string, your eyes captured  handball sized objects flying through the dark towards the fences, exploding into uncountable splatters as they crashed into the walkers, the fence and the melee fighters. Furrowing your brows you stared for a moment at the scene, at the splatters that looked like water at the first glance but that were something completely different judging from the smell that made its way through to you. It was smelling like freshly cut down trees but stronger, almost as strong as those little tree shaped air freshener you could hang into the front of your car and whose smell wouldn’t even leave your nose until you’d gotten out of the car. “Smells like a Christmas tree!”, you could hear Jerry scream in the front, stabbing another walker while he looked like he was drained in the liquid and before you could hear anybody else saying something else, your eyes caught something bright flying through the night sky, a flaming arrow that suddenly crushed into the walkers in front of the fence. Within a millisecond a ball of fire roared through the dead, nearly exploding part of the fence as a blood freezing scream let you flinch. Your fingers gripped the bow tighter as you suddenly saw one of the fighters tumbling burning away from the fence, his whole body covered in flames as he flailed his arms around himself before he crushed against the ground and let the tension within you to skyrocket once more. “It's like gasoline!”, you heard Jerry scream from the fence as you tried to pull yourself together and drag your glance from the man who started to stop moving back to your bow, before forcing yourself to go back to the old procedure and shoot another arrow into the mass.  Even if you could just kill one at a time, it was better than nothing. You could feel your ribcage tightening as you reached for another one over and over again, trying to help the people in the front as best as you could before you suddenly grabbed into emptiness in your quiver and had to realize that you’d just shot your last arrow. ”Fuck”, you cursed underneath your breath as you glanced at the empty quiver, gulping thickly just in the very moment you heard a dangerous cracking coming from the fence. Shooting your glance back up you could see the first Walkers starting to break through, heard screams of Daryl and Aaron for everyone to fall back and stop the fight at the fence, just before the first dead forced their way successfully through the fence. Fuck. Fucking fuckity fuck shit. Negan couldn’t think much more than in curses as groans of the herd sounded loudly through the air while he had to watch the dead and the fences of hilltop blow up in flames from afar. He hadn’t persuaded her, this fuck there, that wasn’t trying to make someone bend the knee, that crap was meant to kill them and nothing else. She’d played him, pretending as if she’d listen to him, that fucking skin freak had played him. Feeling the anger in him rising he tried to keep himself controlled from the outside and tried to get a look at the fight hilltop was fighting in these moments, still trying to persuade himself that his girl wasn’t anywhere in there, trying to tell himself how damn close to zero the odds were over and over again. He couldn’t judge how well they did from his position on the field behind the heard, all he could tell was that they were still fighting and right now, that was a good sign. Fuck, even if none of the people he could worry about were in there, Alexandria still needed Hilltop to fight these skin freaks, losing that community would be a fucking disaster. Uncomfortably he glanced to his side, watching as Alpha gathered a small group of whisperers around a fire before she moved a little away from them to take a look at Hilltop, giving him enough space to approach her. Gulping his anger away the best he could to not let it shimmer through before he walked towards her, putting a slight grin on his face as soon as she caught him. “I thought you wanted them to join us”, he said, his voice calm and not in any way resembling the anger within him as he watched her beginning to smile the fucking oddly again while she slowly stepped closer. “They will”, she said, moving even closer as she nearly bored her glance into his eyes,”As part of my horde.” Fuck. He should’ve known, he should’ve fucking known and done more, he should’ve done more to persuade her. “Holy shit”, he chuckled, overplaying the desperation and frustration that started to make its home in his body, while he knew that right now, it was too late for him to intervene. Everything else would make him look suspicious, everything else could cost him his head. “You are a badass”, he instead added, grinning widely at her in hopes to charm her a little more and cover up what he was actually feeling in these moments, to have the chance to lead her into another direction next chance he got, hopefully with more success. “This is yours”, he heard her say in the next moment, watching as she waved another whisperer over who carried a bow in his hands next to his own, “You will need it now.” This was a test now, wasn't it? He’d asked her again about letting them bend the knee so she tested him if he would question her again or if he would obey, and right now he hadn’t much of option than do the later if he didn’t want to risk to blow his cover just the tiniest bit. So he took the bow into his hands and let her lead him and the other skin freak towards the fire, spanned one of the prepared arrows that had some tree sap soaked cloths attached to its shaft into the string and watched as they passed the flame from one arrow to another, like some STD in a fucking college fraternity.  ”Up high, towards the walls”, he heard Alpha say, feeling the tension within him rising with every second as he gulped thickly and moved the bow up, dragging the string back as he could feel his heart pounding against his ripcage and could feel nausea starting to claw at his throat while he tried to get his mind under control. She wasn’t there. She wasn’t there. She was not fucking there. And then, he let go. Screams, groans and desperate calls echoed through the air, mixing into an eerie symphony as you could see the herd starting to further break the fences, forcing the fear and survival instinct in you to skyrocket in the very moment the dead grabbed the first Hilltopers that had been fighting them only seconds ago. “They're already dead! Let's go!”, a voice screamed through the dark, mixing with calls to just let them break through as the first melee fighters started to run towards your line, waving for you all to move towards the gates. ”Move inside!”, you heard Daryl scream, waving towards you as you dropped the bow and the empty quiver from your shoulder before the adrenaline pushed you to start running as fast as your feet could carry you. Panting you found yourself within the others, within the running group that fled like animals from a wildfire before you suddenly saw some bright points shooting through the dark above you, right before the arrows that carried them landed into Hilltops walls, setting them aflame in the matter of seconds while your whole body started to wrench in fear and shock, forcing your heart to pound against your chest as if it tried to escape while a wave of fright induced nausea washed over you and dared to put a relentless tension over your body. Walkers were coming from the back and the sides, flames were eating up Hilltops walls in the front and soared into the sky. There was no way out.

Hurricane Carl
Droplets fell from emerald eyes as they stared blankly into the ethereal mist dancing across the water's surface. The sun had long ago been replaced by the moon in the long hours she had been curled up there alone. Chin on her tightly hugged knees. The lake had been tempting her in with an unrelenting persistence as she pondered whether she would be missed if the life was drawn from her lips beneath the glistening ripples, hidden by the darkness of the apocalyptic night. But alas she stayed sat, heart clenching and writhing in agony. She'd stayed sat in the same position since he'd left, unwilling to let time unpause and her nightmare to become a reality. "I'll always love you though, you know that right?" He'd said with pity floating in the blue eye that she had years ago fallen in love with. He watched the girl he once love get shredded apart by just seven words, "I don't think I love you anymore." "But it's not enough anymore, it's her you want" he flinched when her broken whisper filled the air. She had known long ago, when she'd seen them sneaking into the woods, that he was no longer hers, and she was no longer his. Amongst the heartbreak she had realised that she should not of trusted Carl. He had taken her to every beautiful place in Alexandria, smiled and pulled her in for a passionate kiss. She would never be able to go back to those places, without tasting him like blood in her mouth. He had destroyed her in the most beautiful way possible. It was then that she finally understood why storms were named after people. A/N Hello my lovelies. I really hope you enjoyed this, it was my first time attempting this but I'm really proud of how it turned out

Note
Imagine in Clem's final scene, if they had actually included Lee there with him smiling proudly (also maybe Kenny, Luke, etc.)...I would burst into more tears!
I actually thought Lee was going to be included in the final scene back when I was theorizing the ending earlier in the season.
I think the reason characters like Lee and Kenny were left out is because incorporating them would imply an afterlife and the writers try to avoid that kind of subject in TWD and instead like to keep the subject of life after death ambiguous.
I feel like if the ending didn't end the way it did, then maybe they could have added Clem talking to Lee in her subconscious again.
Though I think for how the narrative was going at the end, that scene would have probably messed with the pacing a little.
Ah well. We all know Lee is proud of her anyway. I like to think Clem "spoke" with him some time after the end scene or before we see her with her crutches.

Writing
So I'm thinking about writing a fic about Obi Wan Kenobi. If anyone is remotely interested i would love it if you could like this post. Also if you want me to write about someone else just message me about it and i'll do what i can, from headcannons to one shots, whatever you like :)
