Hi! I LOVE your DYF series and I’ve been reading all the side stories, too! I just read the one where Reader goes on a mission alone with Gojo, and saw in the little end notes that you mentioned bubbles when thinking of Reader’s technique.

for the bubbles, idk if you can tell but i like sea creatures, and mappa has the whole aquarium/fish agenda, so i was like ‘damn i’m gonna be so sick for this cursed technique’

so the excuse for the bubbles is to turn them into shields! much like those hydro abyss mages ahahaha. except it’s made of cursed energy and are (near) indestructible. and also she can’t drown anyone in them unfortunately

they can be destroyed, but it depends on the grade. after the star plasma vessel, i’d say dyf mc can be promoted to a grade 2 sorcerer.

anything below grade 2 will find it near impossible to break, whilst anything above will have a hard time, but will eventually break it once they overpower her

for that ‘black hole’, it’s actually more like a transportation vessel. i think i was really disoriented from drinking expired milk while writing that i took ‘ground swallowing you whole’ quite literally. it was also a way for me to characterize mc’s shame and shy nature

the whole, ‘i don’t think i can do it so i’ll hide’ kind of vibe yk?

anyway, the way to ‘properly’ use the void is to align your soul with the body, moving them in tandem as if they were one if that makes any sense

basically a teleportation skill lol haha. you ever played portals? one will be the entrance, the other, the exit. so you can quite literally pop in and out and shift the voids around.

(dyf mc has gotten stuck many times before whilst practicing)

so you can say this ‘void’ is an entrance to her soul. in a manner, i wanted to contrast her powers. one protective and doesn’t allow anyone in, whilst the other is something that needs her to trust someone wholeheartedly.

to me, it is drawings. they don’t have feelings, they don’t breathe, they aren’t human. they were made up. so, if they were made up to be a certain age by someone, what is stoping me from changing that age? they aren’t real…so idk man it just doesn’t seem immoral to me.

just like i age down characters for my big brother au, or i wrote a shit ton of characters as literal hybrids. it’s not real, so i can change characters in the way i see fit because i am an author. you are x reader fics, which in no way will ever be real, so i just don’t think that being able to change a characters age will do harm.

so when i see, for example, yuuji itadori, and i think that i am attracted to him, never in my mind does something flash the words “he is a minor” because to me…he isn’t, at least in my fics with him. it’s just the way you interpret it, and that’s what causes the “controversy” on tumblr.

i also see characters in my fics as prototypes? ig u can call it? with the same example, my yuuji x reader fics, he would look like yuuji itadori, act like yuuji itadori, but he isn’t. he isn’t written by gege, he isn’t animated by mappa. he is written by me, which means i have the power over him to do what i seen fit. if that is to write smut/romance, then he will be a adult, because I am an adult and i made this au. although neither of them are not real, they are two separate entities of each other

andddd this is completely different than minors irl. a drawing of something is completely different than a human being that is under the age of 18. tbh if you can’t separate fiction versus reality then…no offense but i do not see whoever you are as an intelligent being LOL. but that sounds mean, i am not bashing anyone who doesn’t agree with aging characters up, but it is the same people who bash on this who read/interact with dark content. like all of the sudden they can seprate fiction and reality when it regards to yandere…..

but like i said in the beginning, i don’t give a fuck what people do with my work.. if you want to interpret a character as a child, that’s disgusting, but it’s not my fault? if your mind is to think of a character as a child when reading smutty things, then you are sick in the head, but it’s not like my readings spurred it on. they will always be like that, regardless of what they are reading.

i write (95% of the time) for myself. i don’t see the character as a child, and honestly that’s all that matters to me at least. i can’t stop the small amount of people from having pedophilic thoughts about my work, but to be honest, i am not going to let that ruin my fun. i think about myself firstly — i am not a good person anon

Anyway all jokes aside, the ending still feels a bit inconsequential seeing that no one dies in the final battle, considering how the rest of the show was. Eren's still a coward and a pussy and his inability to act with decisiveness is the reason shiganshina (and presumably the rest of Paradis) is inevitably destroyed, it also proves the Jaegarists point that no matter what happens theyll never stop trying to wipe out eldians, even centuries after titans are wiped out. Eren lied to the people of Paradis and got them killed so like 8 people could live half decent lives cleaning up his mess, most hollow victory of all time. Over all its like a 7/10 ending, there isnt any other way it really could have ended comsidering the story. The new paradis emblem is so fucming cool tho holy shit. Get Rumbled Stay Humbled.

How are you feeling about Ice Ado being cancelled? 🥲 We all knew it was going to happen, but the connection to yoi is so intimate that it feels like a personal loss to me. All the memories during these 7 years; the pandemic; MAPPA’s explosive growth since then; Russia and the Olympics… It’s a lot to think about. Would love to hear your thoughts if you have any!

I feel sick about it tbh. YOI was there for me during an incredibly difficult time in my life, like it was for many others. But even though the difficult times only get worse, there’s no more (new) YOI. No other franchise has ever made me feel as hopeful inside. I’m really, really sad.

I hope the YOI fans that moved on have found fandoms they love, and that the studios/executives have respect for those stories, their creators, and the fans. 💕 The final few months of 2016 were a rare and beautiful gift that I will cherish forever.

Note: I speak quite poorly about JJK in this, but it’s just my immediate emotions towards the show following this last episode. I do still love it and the characters, but it’s far from my favourite thing out there. I’m a shoujo enjoyer, I don’t like angst, I don’t usually watch your classic shounen type fighting anime. I like JJK despite this, but my biases and preferences mean I automatically don’t like certain aspects of the show (even if I can recognize how crucial and relevant they can be to the plot)

I’ll be honest, I don’t really know what’s going on here, or how this could possibly be the end of this season

Idk what season 3 is gonna be like, part of me doesn’t even want to watch it. And I say that solely because I like… joy…? And it sounds like every character I love is going to die, so. Maybe I’ll choose blissful ignorance and ignore the Shibuya incident and everything that comes afterwards 🤗 (I won’t. I like this show too much, it’s really good, it’s got a really good story when I can understand what’s going on. And I don’t love an inconclusive ending so I’ll have to keep watching 👎)

Overall, highly recommend…

JJK isn’t my favourite, nor is it the best anime out there, but it’s still really good. Ranks high regardless of its issues (mappa…)

Yeah, idk. The fact my favourite character (Nanami) DIED, my other favourite character (Choso) is also probably going to DIE, Gojo is probably DEAD, Nobara might be DEAD, Itadori might DIE (doubtful. He is the main character. But even if he was the last one standing I wouldn’t really care all that much. He’s great but not my favourite), all kinda makes me… not a fan. If I knew that all my favs were going to get fucking obliterated I probably never would’ve started JJK. I only watched it because of the Gojo memes but I stuck around because I genuinely enjoyed the plot and all the characters 🦐

And I understand death can help move a story along BUT

I personally avoid angst and shows heavy in character death (Angel Beats being a major outlier 💀) because I just don’t like it. I either need to really like the characters or really like the plot to stick around with a show and JJK has a good plot but I don’t generally care for stereotypical shounen anime. Idk why I’m explaining this to you.

JJK is an incredible show with incredible characters and I love it despite everything I just whined about.

That does not mean I won’t drop it though. (I think I’m just getting sick of all the manga spoilers, it’s really not that hard to put a spoiler under the “keep reading” thing.)

There’s a lot about JJK that’s pissing me off actually, I have a very strong love hate relationship with it.

I could keep going but for the sake of… idk. Someone or something, I’ll stop here.

Watch JJK! I don’t blame anyone for saying it isn’t the best thing they’ve ever seen though. Because it’s really not. It has moments where it is, but at the end of the day it is just another shounen.

(I talked super poorly about JJK, maybe I’ll do another post talking about what I really like about it. But probably not, because that would just be me saying “wow these characters’ relationships are really interesting!” and as I think I’ve established, a lot of characters die. So these relationships sort of become void by extension, the thing I like most about the show continues to fizzle out 🦐)

Anime I Watched This Summer

Summer 2020 has officially come to a close. It’s fall in Animal Crossing and the trees are beginning to turn. Much like quarantine, I spent a lot of my free time watching anime when I wasn’t stressing over starting college. Now that the school year has begun, I thought it would be nice to reflect on everything I’ve watched!

These Anime were seen between 6/14 - 8/31 (my Birthday!) and are listed in chronological order.

They will be rated on a 1-10 scale; 1 meaning complete garbage, 10 meaning masterpiece. I will offer my thoughts on what I did/didn't like about each show!

1. Bakemono no Ko - 8/10

This was such a great way to start out the summer! I love the dynamic between Kumatetsu and Ren. Overall its a little cliche, but it’s also very wholesome. It’s by the same studio that made Wolf Children (which I loved!). so I knew it was going to be good. My favorite aspect of this movie was its backgrounds and world building!

2. Wan Sheng Jie - 9/10

Oh my gosh! I know that this is technically a donghua, but its on MAL, so it counts. This show quickly became my favorite slice of life of all time. I adore the art style and all of the characters. The comedy, plot, and design blends so well together. Everything in Wan Sheng Jie feels warm and comfy. It’s also confirmed for a second season! After seeing its cliff hanger ending, I’m so anxious for what comes next!

3. Dororo - 7/10

I’ll be honest, I’m a sucker for studio MAPPA. I really liked the historical aspects of Dororo. From the outfits to the ways characters behave, its grounded in the constraints of feudal Japan. I would have given this show a higher score if it was a little more grounded in science. I feel like more time should’ve been given to the demons and antagonists of the show. Our MC was so over powered, which made the final fights of the series more lack-luster. I think its less of the anime’s fault and more because the original source material is from the 60s. That being said, I loved this show! It was cute and action packed. Though it isn’t perfect, it holds its own.

4. Bungou Stray Dogs - 5/10

The concepts and action are misconstrued in Bungou Stary Dogs. This is one of those shows that I chose to watch because it was all over Tumblr. The powers themselves are cool, but I can’t understand why this series is so praised. At it’s core its predictable and basic. The fights seemed low stakes and low energy. None of the humor really felt like it belonged. It tried too hard to be something it isn’t. I don’t think I’ll watch beyond this first season.

5. Kami no Tou - 4.5/10

First off, fuck Rachel, me and my homies hate Rachel. I really really had high hopes for Tower of God. It paves the way for Webtoon adaptations in the future. Its such a shame that this adaptation SUCKED. I have not read the source material, I’m going solely based on the anime. It wasn’t good? It was horrible. I hate Bam, I hate Rachel. I think all the characters expect Rak were awful. Please don’t make a season 2. Please. If you’re interesting in Tower of God, just read the webtoon.

6. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun - 7/10

Shoujo anime is my guilty pleasure. I especially liked the way Gekkan Shoujo tackled Sakura and Nozaki’s relationship. Besides just the main characters, even the side characters were enjoyable! It was a fun and creative show. My only complaint is how dense Nozaki is, but I also absolutely love that part of him.

7. Jojo no Kimyou no Bouken (Parts 1-2) - 6.5/10

Jojo is not the saving grace of shounen anime. It isn’t something super revolutionary and it certainly will never be a 10/10. Part 1 was so slow and boring. Jonathan was just mediocre at best. I definitely liked Joseph a LOT more than Jonathan. Part 2 overall was much easier to watch than part 1. The fights are good, but there’s just something about Jojo that I can’t get behind. Although I’m completely bashing this series, I’m going to keep watching it. At this point, I wanna know what a stand is.

8. Clannad - 5.5/10

I was expecting Clannad to be sad, but instead I got a cute, slice of life, romance. It wasn’t unenjoyable, but it was also a pretty slow-burning show. I loved watching Nagisa and Okazaki slowly fall in love with each other. It was funny at times and sad at other points. I am currently watching Clannad: After Story (which I’ve heard is heartbreaking), so I’m hoping to get some catharsis out of that.

9. Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai... - 6/10

This show is only 12 episodes, and yet it still has filler episodes for some reason? I’m a person who doesn’t typically watch isekai because the genre is so over done. However, when it’s done in a very specific way it’s really fun to watch! This show was definitely a lot of fun, it’s also cute and has so many interesting character-character interactions. The ending is painfully cliche, but I think it adds to this shows charm.

10. Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen - 8/10

I loved Love is War so much! I love their weird romantic dynamic. I love the characters, and I love the animation. It’s over the top and executes it humor masterfully. The entire show fills you with anticipation for the two main characters. Kaguya is my favorite character. Although I haven’t seen season two yet, I most certainly will! I’m so upset I hadn’t seen this show sooner.

11. Great Pretender - 8.5/10

This show is so colorful and bubbly. The animation is so smooth and they are able to tackle so many different kinds of things given its plot. The whole show itself just feels like summertime. It came out not to long ago, so some people may not be familiar with it. On top of the show itself, the music is great, with a Jazzy OP and and ED that features Freddie Mercury

12. Steins;Gate 0 - 8/10

I loved the original Stein;Gate so much! So it’s no surprise how much I liked the second season. It builds significantly off the first season in a sort of “off shot” OVA kind of way. The events of Steins;Gate 0 don’t actually happen, but that doesn’t stop it from being meaningful. The big “twist” was predictable and a bit of a let down, but I still enjoyed this. Granted, I’m bias.

13. Seishun Buta Yarou wa Yumemiru Shoujo no Yume wo Minai - 9.5/10

I sobbed. So much. This movie was phenomenal, it was such a trip. Having watched the original series, this tore my heart apart. It gets a high score for being able to take the characters I love and creating a wonderfully emotional experience. If you haven’t seen Bunny Girl Senpai, please watch it, and then watch this movie. You won’t regret it!

14. Hotaru no Haka - 6/10

Grave of the Fireflies made me stop watching anime for a while. Studio Ghibli created something grim, something that leaves the viewers feeling hollow. Its a movie about WWII from Japan’s perspective. As an American, all I could feel while watching this was immense guilt. I will say though, that some of the movies main plot could have easily been prevented if the main character had swallowed his pride. His younger sister was also my least favorite character. I get that she’s a kid and that kids are fussy, but you would think that during wartime, she’d be more understanding and at least try to eat the things she dislikes.

15. Yagate Kimi ni Naru - 9/10

This was a great way to end the summer. This is more that just GL romance, its a love story. Its about growing up and learning to understand your feelings. I related to Yuu so much, which made this more emotional than I expected. It’s really unlike another romance anime I’ve seen. I hope it gets confirmed for a second season. If not, I’ll be reading the manga.

Seasonal Shows: (Things that are still airing as of 9/5/2020)

1. The God of High School 7.5/10

Another thing done by studio MAPPA. Are you surprised? I absolutely love the action in GoH. The plot however, is all over the place. The story seems fragmented and hard to follow. Like Tower of God, it was poorly adapted. I’m giving it such a high score, because it’s SO much more enjoyable then Tower of God.

2. Enen no Shouboutai: Ni no Shou - 4/10

My thoughts on season 2 are about the same as my thoughts on season 1. The only difference is that this season has more Jojo references. I’ve rated it lower because its so repetitive. I’m so sick of watching it, but I’ve got to see it through the bitter end.

3. Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu 2nd Season - 8.5/10

All I’m going to say about Re:Zero is that I love it. I can’t give an accurate review of it because I’ve been hyping this season since it was announced. If you’re into non-typical isekai, watch Re:Zero, its so enjoyable!

Episode 67 (S4E8) Thoughts

This is a long one.

1) Eren one shotting Reiner lmao.

2) The anime put a big emphasis on this scene too, what with Eren’s eyes widening and then the camera panning from Reiner to Porco! I’m 100% sure Eren saw a snapshot of chapter 119 here.

3) Love the music during this scene.

4) “At this point, I can’t exactly kill Reiner.” 👀 Eren clearly had enough strength left to fight though. He only paused and changed tactics after he noticed something. And he couldn’t kill Reiner here because he knew they’d meet again. Hence his “see you later, Reiner”.

5) Really happy they included more of Eren’s expressions in this episode. He looks so sad here, just like in the manga.

6) Lmao I just noticed that Gabi technically succeeded in “killing Eren Jaeger” in the same way Eren is gonna succeed in “killing every last one of them” (“them” being the Titans).

7) The 3dmg action scenes are 👌🏼 this episode as well.

8) Armin is too pretty in MAPPA’s style. I think the short hair really made a difference in particular. It’s a better look on him.

9) Eren really be hanging from a net with so much ease despite not being tied to anything. I could never.

10) Oh mannn, the EMA reunion was so good. You can really feel the intensity. I love how you can sense everything that’s packed into that silence.

11) I’m sorry, but Eren’s expression here is like “who this bitch” 😂.

12) I can’t remember this being in the manga, but I like the addition of Armin being horrified and instinctively wanting to intervene when Levi hits Eren, not just Mikasa.

13) UgHHH I’M SO MAD ONCE AGAIN. This line makes me so sick. It literally taints every single interaction between them. Like, I can’t look at the courtroom scene the same way if this is what Levi had to say about it after all these years 🤢.

14) That burn though 😂. I love how defiant Eren is. Like sure, you can kick me, but you’re the dumbass who can’t read and comprehend (@ the fandom too).

15) There are so many beautiful shots of Eren this episode 😭.

16) Floch is looking a lot better, thank God.

17) It makes me sick whenever SoY cheer on for Eldia... But they don’t know the truth, so it’s not their fault. Even Eren spoke of reviving Eldia before he saw Ymir’s memories. I hope all SoY will know not to associate themselves with the Eldian Empire by the end though.

18) BITCH THAT SPRINGLESTEIN HUG 😭. IT MAKES ME SO EMO.

19) Also, Jean is finally looking a lot more like himself in the anime. I’m glad they fixed his design.

20) That conversation though 😂💀. “Why grow a beard if you can’t eat it?” Iconic.

21) I love the cinematography of this scene, when Gabi and Falco are running. Amazing 👌🏼.

22) I’m loving Falco’s design this episode.

23) You know, I was actually thinking about how Gabi succeeding in harming her enemy here while Eren could not stand up against the Titans during the Fall of Wall Maria is also there to show us the difference in their upbringing. Gabi already had military training at this point, whereas Eren was just a normal child.

24) Big props to Falco and Gabi’s VAs honestly 👏🏻. They nail it every time.

25) Gabi’s monologue with the subs actually gave me goosebumps. The music choice sets the scene so perfectly.

But honestly, when she said the lines “not knowing why any of this happened?” and “did you see it happen?”, I was like?? Hello? You know that Marley likes to colonize other nations and they specifically went after Paradis... It is literally not the same as the Fall of Wall Maria, where Paradisians did not at all know why they were being attacked. Don’t equate the two when you’re fully aware of Marley’s actions and took part in them.

Also, when she started going off about how they’re evil and blah blah blah, that just took away from everything she was saying at the start. Any sympathy I was feeling evaporated.

26) Man, there are so many beautiful shots in this episode. I’m obsessed.

27) I feel so bad for Lobov but he’s a prime example of why you can’t let your guard down in war... He died because he hesitated and underestimated a child.

28) I’m sorry but Gabi waxing poetic shit about how she’s gonna die an honourable death cracks me up.

29) Man, I feel so bad for Colt. If it wasn’t for the shit Reiner said to Falco...

30) Whyyyy did you ignore your sharp hearing skills and instincts @ Sasha??? Whyyyyyy???

31) Anyways, she looks so lovely here.

32) I like how the shooting scene actually happens quickly and it doesn’t leave much room for you to process what happened, but then it all hits you later when Connie delivers the news.

33) That POV of the Paradisians running after Gabi and Falco is so unsettling. I feel bad for Falco cause he didn’t even do anything.

34) I just realized Sasha actually died a slow death...😞 She bled out over a few minutes at least.

35) Yelenaaaaa 😍.

36) Wait, so Pieck had an interest in people who were devout followers of Zeke...? Because she thought he was fishy or because she was one too? 😂

37) GAHHH HE IS SO PRETTY. THANK YOU MAPPA.

38) Eren looked so shocked to see Falco and Gabi there though. I wonder if it’s because of Falco in particular? I’d like to think he was relieved to see him alive.

39) It makes me so sad and mad that Eren couldn’t even run out to check on Sasha because he was tied up like a prisoner, while Armin and Mikasa could.

40) Ahahaha I can’t wait until all those anime-onlys who shit-talked Zeke eat their own words.

41) Actually Jean, Yelena saved y’all because if Porco hadn’t made it to the battle, the WH would have remained in the hands of Marley.

42) Pretty Jaeger eyes 😍.

43) BITCH HE NEVER ASKED YOU TO?? AND DON’T ACT LIKE YOU DID ALL THAT OUT OF THE GOODNESS OF YOUR HEARTS. YOU DID IT BECAUSE YOU JUST WANTED TO USE HIM 🤬. Y’ALL NEVER ACTUALLY CARED ABOUT SAVING HIM AS A PERSON.

I just really hate how they have the audacity to try to guilt him here when they literally weaponized him for years as a child.

44) It’s called being smart. Which you wouldn’t know anything about since you’ve been a pure idiot ever since Erwin died 🙄.

45) Anyways, Eren looks so beautiful in that shot 👆🏼.

46) He doesn’t need your trust, dumbass.

47) The buildup here was just phenomenal 👌🏽. I get goosebumps every time I watch this scene.

48) The track they play here is also the one that plays in honour of Marco in season 1 😢.

49) RIP Sasha 😭. Thankfully, this won’t be the last time we see her though.

50) Eren’s reaction when he hears Sasha’s last words... The sound he makes isn’t even purely a laugh...? First, his eyes widen in shock and he gasps as he’s reminded of that memory. Then he scoffs and chokes out a chuckle of disbelief/irony as he thinks back to that conversation on top of the Walls. Finally, as he realizes that Sasha won’t be around to see that vision come to life and that he failed in his wish to protect her, he grits his teeth in anger and despair. That last shot captures his devastation and pain perfectly.

51) Anyways, phenomenal performance by Kaji. Since the level of emotion captured by the drawings was also on par with the manga, I’m really happy with the adaptation of this scene (The one thing I wish they kept was Zeke’s reaction to it).

And I’m so pleased with the redraw of that flashback. The background adds a warm ambience to the memory. They even blessed us with such a perfect shot of Sasha, capturing the innocence of her dream 😭.

52) Ugh this part makes me so mad. No Jean, Sasha would have died due to your incompetence if Eren hadn’t done anything either.

Overall, this was a perfect episode! The music choices were top notch (adding to the intensity, setting the perfect atmosphere), the voice acting delivered every time, and the drawings were rarely off. In fact, there were so many beautifully drawn shots. And I’m so happy Sasha got a good send off. Thank you MAPPA 💕.

As for the next episode, the preview looks so fucking good! I can’t wait to launch into all the flashbacks. Also, I’m glad we’re finally at the point in the plot where the Jaeger bros are fighting alongside one another. It’s surreal, but we’re officially halfway through the season...
