This is a scene from the fic I'm working on. Hermione and Draco plan to tell Harry about the research they have been conducting on bringing Sirius back from the Veil, but are interrupted mid dinner. I'm still working on this, so any critiques are welcome!

Ron Interrupts a Veily Important Conversation

"Hermione." She looked up at Harry. " If this is about what I think it may be about, then I know you have done your best, just as you do on everything else." Hemione stretched out her hands and took his, looking into Harry's eyes. She saw the sincerity and trust that only years of adventures and friendship could provide. "You are not one to do things by half measures. You are the closest thing I will ever have to a sister, and I know that whatever has you this wrecked about telling me, is something you have put a lot of thought into." After a gentle squeeze, Harry let go of her hands and leaned back in his chair. "So, will you tell me, or does my wonderfully sneaky boyfriend have anything to do with this?"

Draco had the decency to look abashed, Harry thought. "I will have to do most of the explaining, as Hermionie literally can't tell you. However, as you can see, she has contributed to this conversation with the vast amounts of notes." Draco gestured to the booklets bound by his bushy-haired friend and took a moment to sip his drink once more. Harry wasn't sure if it was to steal his nerves or to pause for dramatic effect. It was both, but it was meant to look like Draco had the upper hand in the conversation by being able to play the theatrical effect card. Harry felt a bit petty this evening and didn't want Draco to have the upper hand in this conversation. While it was confirmed that Draco and Hermione were some of the most intelligent people Harry had the pleasure of knowing, they weren't nearly as sneaky as they thought. That was how Harry chose to look at it, not that they thought him too oblivious to notice the nature of the books being requested and cruse broken. It wasn't like Harry needed his 3 years of Auror training to suss out that one; he had to apply his magic to every book along with Draco to convince the curses that it was to the House of Black's benefit to not to drain the magic of someone not in the family if they touched it. Merlin, look at what dating a Slytherin had done to him.

"Do you mind if I clarify a few things before we go into what I'm sure is a lengthy discussion?" Harry said as he started dishing himself up a plate of another savoury meal provided by Kreature. A glass of water and a tumbler of Ogden's Finest appeared before Harry as he sat down with his roast and veg. Kreatre's knack for perfectly timed serving is once again in play. "I just have had a few things niggling in the back of my brain for the last few weeks of your newfound doggy behaviour." Darco and Hermione shared a look, good. "Firstly, I wondered if any of this had to do with the Veil."

"Harry-" Draco chimed in, a nervous edge to his voice. Just the way Harry wanted to play this.

"Oh, I'm sorry, my love, I wasn't done yet. I wanted to know if your secret project had anything to do with the Veil, what with all the books we were cleansing. Draco was organising the list, but seeing as I had so much time in the vaults while Draco hunted down the texts, I couldn't help but take a peak at the newly important texts. Couldn't understand much, mind you, but the ones with pictures were quite illuminating." Draco's abashed look had turned into a completely blank face, with a slight blush darting up from his shirt collar and spreading lightly over his cheeks. Hermione, however, groaned loudly and dropped her head to the table.

"My suspicions were confirmed when Hermionie went into her Academic Panic Mode, staying up late, ink-stained fingers, hair back to emulating a large eagle's nest." Hermione jerked up from this and gave Harry a glair.

"You were keeping secrets; I get to be catty." Harry took a large bite of roast carrot to articulate the point. Draco realised that Harry was playing with them like a cat with a pair of mice and went back to eating. Spoilsport. Guess it was time to bring out the trump card.

"So then I thought, why would my partner and best friend since I was 11 hide something from me that has to do with the Veil? What connection do I have to the Veil? It couldn't possibly be Sirius, could it? Hmmm. What could possibly be so important it would turn two people who would never betray my trust into secretive sneaks? It would have to be pretty big, right?"

"Okay, Potter, we get it; you figured us out. You can stop now." Draco sighed as he cut his roast into a diminutive 'proper manners' sized bite.

"Potter, is it? I didn't realise we had returned to our old school rivalry." Harry joked, smiling at Draco from across the table.

"When one behaves childishly, one will be treated as such," Draco replied promptly; his bites were so small that it probably only took two chews before he could swallow. Harry, the mature man he was, stuck his tongue out.

"I'm sorry we didn't tell you sooner, Harry." Hermione finished examining the wood grain closely and looked up, knowing her best friend was having a bit of fun but still didn't take the sting out of being chastised. "I hadn't wanted to get your hopes up. Should we not be able to—" Hermione gasped, her mouth locked shut.

"Oh, come off it, Granger. You practise riddles for fun while drinking your morning tea, and you couldn't figure out a way to say that without activating the silencing charm."

"What's with the hostility, mate?" Rons piped up from the door leading from the dining room to the hall. Draco started in his chair.

"Circe's sake, Weasley!"

"No need to get your knickers in a twist, not when it seems like you deserve it."

"It was a bit harsh." Harry chimed in as Ron sat down on his side across from Draco.

"You okay, Mionie?" Hermione rolled her eyes at her boy's antics. Draco was right; they had been practising skirting around the secrecy spell for weeks, trying to ensure that if Harry had questions for her, she could answer them. She nodded to Ron and emphasised that she couldn't open her mouth.

"What's wrong with her?" Ron asked, confused with a tinge of panic in his voice.

"She activated the Department of Mysteries silencing spell, the one we had been practising how not to activate, right Hermoinie? She won't be able to speak for another half hour or so."

"Why?" Ron asked around a large bite of roast, bits of meat falling back onto his plate.

"If you must know, it was to give the Department of Mysteries employees ample time to retreat out of any position their slip-up may have caused, but I don't see how it was so pertinent a question it would be triggered. Hold on, didn't you have a date this evening? Why are you even here, Weasly?"

"If you must know," Ron smarmily stated in an oversaturated posh tone, "I live here and can come and go as I please. And the preparation match got cancelled due to the team coming down with a case of Doxy Fever. The team was using 100-year-old jerseys. That's the last time the Cannons won a game, but the boxes the uniforms were in had Doxie nests no one knew about. They brought the uniforms out right as the team changed; the whole Quidditch team got bit! Have a whole ward in Mungos set up for them, as all the managers and equipment maintenance blokes got a bit too. After finding out the news, Susan wanted to go home and have a night in with her Aunt. I don't think she wanted to go to the game that badly anyway, but I didn't think she was so upset about the Cannons that she would need to go home. I offered to take her out somewhere else, but she seemed instant she just wanted to leave."

"You are the biggest idiot I have ever met." Draco deadpanned and took a sip of his drink.

"Where do you get off telling me that?" Ron, quick to anger, stood up fast from the table, causing his chair to fall back.

"Susan wasn't upset about the Chudley Cannons you bellend; she was clearly miffed at your choice of the date location and probably whatever option you tried to come up with on the spot to make up for the night going to shit. My guess is you wanted to go to the ward and offer support for the team or some nonsense only a knobhead would think appropriate." Ron's ears pinked at the end. "I knew you were an idiot, Weasly, but I thought you would at least know that if a woman who had never shown fanatic levels of devotion to the worst team in England agreed to go to an event with you, you would have offered her the chance to do something she would find engaging as a thank you for even entertaining the idea of going to such an event in the first place when the worst date fell through. Not try her patience even more with frankly inappropriate levels of team spirit. She probably is at home right now going over your relationship with her Aunt, trying to determine if it's even worth it to train you into a halfway decent partner."

Expecting an angered outburst, Harry and Hermione were expecting if the fact Hermione had leaned as far back in her chair as possible and Harry's firm grasp on Ron's shoulder to keep him from leaping across the table were anything to go by. However, to the shock of them all, Ron's face had drained of colour, and in a small voice, "She wouldn't do that, would she? Break up with me? I knew she didn't like Quidditch as much as I did, but the night wasn't so bad." Draco sighed as he, in a very un-Draco-like move, ran his hand through his hair in a most exacerbated way.

"How many dates have you taken her on that were Quidditch related?"

"None. The season only just started."

"Right, that's good; let me ask then. How much of the time that you spend with Susan do you talk about Quidditch?" Somehow, Ron paled further.

"What I do?" Ron turned into Harry, gripping his arms tight. "I don't want to fuck this one up, Harry. I really do like her. I feel so comfortable around her that I can talk about anything. And she's brilliant, mate! Not in the way you are, Hermione. But like in a practical way. While on patrol in Diagon the other day, some bloke tried to steal from Borgin and Burkes. This bloke just running up Knockturn with Borgin running after him, trying to Incasorus him. And what does Susan do? She charms the Twilfit and Tattings sign so the scissors make a barrier across the Alley entrance onto Diagon and the ribbon to make a net and tie itself around the runner to the scissors. Faster than stink, she just magicked him into a net. How am I meant to impress a woman who can do that?"

Harry slowly guided Ron back to his seat, passed the butterbeer that had appeared when Ron had dished up, and then, on second thought, handed Ron Harry's own whiskey glass. By now, Hermionie had gained control of her mouth again.

"Ronald, you must show her how much you admire and care about her. Take her out for a drink and tell her what you just told us. Tell her how much you admired her at that moment and how you want to put the effort into it, but -"

"Have the emotional maturity of a teaspoon?" Ron looked at his friend, quoting her. She had told him that the first time they were still in school together and the last when they had had an enormous fight leading to their breakup. It was funny now that years had passed; their relationship had become stronger now that they knew they were such good friends. Not even a truly awful relationship could stand between them wanting to support one another.

"Actually, please do tell her that; I can only imagine that Susan would appreciate it after the night you tried to take her on," Draco quipped.

After sending Ron on his way with a bouquet of flowers charmed by Hermionie and a pair of diamond studs Draco had planned on giving his cousin Toks for her upcoming birthday, he decided he could find another Black heirloom for her. It was a shame Tonks had nothing to connect her to her Blak family heritage.

Once the two had reconnected, Narcissa had taken to lavishing Andromeda with family jewellery, gowns, and robes. Tinkd was offered the same but refused due to her nature not being for the finer things. Draco had taken it upon himself as soon as he had access to the Black Vault to find something she may enjoy and take pride in. It was somewhat challenging as Draco didn't know much about his cousin.

Still, with his de facto head duties, Draco wanted to bring the remaining respectable family back together and have something to be proud of. He couldn't do much with his Malfoy name due to their long line of dark lord supporters, but the Black House was ancient and noble. It could stand on its own merit despite the hit of having so many inbred dark lord supporters in recent history.

Harry, Draco, and Hermione took themselves to the library to finish their conversation after finishing with supper to finish their conversation with Draco's preferred stash of liquor, muggle whiskey, as opposed to Harry's, fire whisky. Dravo likes the smokey oak-aged quality without the burn that was always found in Ogden's; and all other magical whiskeys somehow seemed sweet.

"Shall I take it that we purposefully didn't return to our conversation while Ron was around?" Harry asked, sitting down on the couch across from the fire after filling his tumbler.

"Hermione and I think it best to involve only the three of us at this stage. We may need Ron's and others' support during the ritual. Still, as of now, we believe it best to keep our activities as hush as possible as letting anyone know any of the goings on in the Department of Mysteries is typically met with a memory wipe and a fast-track ticket to cleaning out the aurror holding cells for the rest of your carrier."

"Got it. In that case, I am honoured that you deemed my need to know." Harry smirked at the two, knowing they knew he wasn't upset. He worked in the Aurrors and understood the Ministry's inner workings. "So, we are rescuing Sirius from the Veil. How?"

Summary: Two gremlins, their husbands, and the horrible HOA board. As long as nobody gets arrested for arson or murder, we're gonna call it a win.

Mojo's comments: Very funny modern au (all POV meng yao) wherein he and lan xichen are happily married and living in suburbia near a similarly happily married wangxian. Meng Yao only thrives when he can scheme, of course, and his shameless violence is aimed at protecting his hubby (whose tomatoes were violated by Horrible Susan of the HOA). Wwx is just happy to gremlin with his brother-in-law via late-night McDonald's warroom planning. Somehow, this turns them into accidental friends. With the new f4 movie being underway do you think they'll do justice to susans powers? Because the last movies she was nerfed hard. I've only recently started getting into the f4 but sue is kickass. Until reading comics I had no idea the extent of her powers she can put bubbles in peoples head and make it bigger or make them blind or sheild her mind from telepaths like franklin and jean freakin grey. Why have marvel been sleeping on sue this whole time!

They better do her justice because she's a BAMF and people deserve to know.

Mark Waid did a good job of letting people know how kickass she is. Other recent writers also.

Now. I hadn't actually thought of this until you asked but i think Ultimate Fantastic Four deserves the credit for making the 616 version better. With UFF they were allowed to be more creative with her powers. UFF started in 2004 and if i was to look into it i imagine i'd either not find any or very few examples of her being an absolute QUEEN!

is from 2007. It's one of the earliest examples of her being a wee bit scary that i can remember.

But now i am thinking. I'm thinking. When was Enemy of the State out because i am remembering something from that. 2004 it seems.

She did this in Enemy of the State #3 (Nov 2004).

There'd only been like 7-8 issues of UFF at this point. Coincidentally Mark Millar wrote this and some UFF.

So. Yeah. Anyway. They have to nerf her in 616 because it's not fair on everyone else.

One fanfiction recommendation for each of my fandoms on AO3!

Harry Potter: The Sum of Their Parts by holdmybeer

I literally have no words to describe how incredible this fic is. Dark Lord Harry Potter usually has unreasonable descents into darkness, ridiculously perfect Harrys and breakings of friendships, but this one gives it a whole new twist. Harry as a dark lord in this is VERY believable and his relationships with Ron, Hermione, the other Weasleys and the DA remain as strong as in school and become better in fact. Teddy is adorable and Harry is a wonderful godfather. The struggle with his conscience on what he's doing, Harry's immense magical power, Hermione's in depth knowledge and Ron's advice and strategy and their teamwork, and the technicalities of being a Dark Lord are very well described. Gen, with no focus on relationships. It ends abruptly, and the emphasis on the title itself rather than the deeds of a Dark Lord is a bit weird, but it is AMAZING. Check it out!

2. Marvel Cinematic Universe: Never Odd or Even by memoriaeterna

Are you looking for something to heal you from No Way Home? Or in fact from Endgame, Loki or WandaVision? Featuring BAMF Peter Parker, redeemed Loki, Peter and Loki friendship, Irondad, Stephen and Peter friendship, Wanda and Peter friendship, good!Thanos and Hela (well, sort of, anyway) and time travel, this fic is IT. One of the best fics I've read. Purely gen as well.

3. Merlin: Seeds of Darkness by N16

A realistic Merlin fic beginning from mid-Season 5 that reveals Merlin's magic and has a happy ending? Surely not! What I really loved about this fic was that it didn't follow the 'Prophecies are BS! Arthur learns about Merlin and is immediately horrified about what he's done for 'destiny'' route. Arthur does confront Merlin about this, but it is a consensus that prophecies are something to be wary of, and that destiny IS a very strong force. With a lovely Arthur and Merlin friendship, a wonderful take on Mordred and his relationships with Merlin, Arthur and the knight, a fix of Gwen and Merlin's friendship, Gwaine and Merlin friendship, BAMF Merlin, and a realistic progression of wary-and-slightly-horrified-Arthur-and-knights to them accepting the magic, this fic is one of the BEST. Gen, with Arthur/Gwen.

4. Chronicles of Narnia: Grey England by Alara

This fic is a lovely incomplete piece of how the Pevensies adjusted to being children again and back from Narnia. A very realistic take on how they didn't lose the qualities that had made them the monarchs of the golden age, but retained their childishness and flaws as well. Lucy's struggles at school, the Pevensies' close relationship, the friends of Narnia and Susan's drifting apart are all splendidly done. Gen.

5. The Queen's Gambit: The Slav Defence by Skellypup

This fic is still in the beginning stages, and the first chapters are not very well formatted, but the premise is interesting. Time travel has given Beth an incredible opportunity, and her reconnecting (for her) with Mr. Shaibel, Jolene and Alma, and her struggles with her addiction are very relatable. Gen for now, with tags suggesting Beth/Benny later.

6. Song of Achilles: My Grave; My Heart by fouryearslaterdrabbles (Cheshire Cat Life)

A cute oneshot about Patroclus remaining beside the grave and interacting with gods who are now forgotten. Mostly Gen, but hints of Patrochilles (mostly pining).

7. Miraculous Ladybug: Strings Attached by macaronize

A light soulmates AU. Identity shenanigans, misunderstandings and heartache ensue. The resolution could have been better, but it was definitely a fun read. Marinette/Adrien, side Alya/Nino.

8. Sherlock Holmes (Downey Films): Marriage a trois by Sorrel

Maybe Mary Morstan/John Watson/Sherlock Holmes isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I love the relationship and I ADORE this fic. Both Mary and Sherlock are of course already in love with John, their falling for one another is gradual and believable and everyone's characterization is incredibly on point.

9. The Hunger Games: The First Rebel by Linquist

The first and only OC-centric fic I'll recommend in this list, because Cara and this story are amazing. A brilliant take on an alternate 75th Games involving relatives of victors. Cara is a character with incredible depth, and the other OCs - Kol in particular - strike true as well. This story is complete, with a sequel underway. Meant to be Gale/OC, but Gen until now.

10. Frozen: Chaste as Ice by Karis the Fangirl

Not a particular fandom of mine, but this story is really very good. Kristoff/Anna and their impetuous natures, Kristoff and Elsa's friendship, Kristoff's protectiveness over her and a discussion on the realities of being a female ruler. Just. . . Sweet found family fluff.

11. The Lizzie Bennet Diaries: Hypotheticals by Matril

Fanfiction within fanfiction! Lots of relationship fluff. Ingenious idea of alternate scenarios of what could have happened being discussed by the characters themselves. Lizzie/Darcy.

12. Carmen Sandiego: Saved For Memories by Rueitae

A fic exploring Player and Carmen's friendship. Player is kidnapped by VILE and the faculty's characterization is outstanding. The metaphor used for the rescue is heartbreaking, and it's always nice to see Carmen outsmart the villains! Gen

13. Descendants: you love a pretty girl with a twisted mind by meliebee

Headcanon of a fic detailing the growing up of the Isle kids. Rotten Four as family and BAMF Mal. Gen, with Ben/Mal at the end and slight Uma/Mal and Harry/Mal.

14. Enola Holmes: In Spite of Ourselves by Eienvine

Angst galore! Enola not knowing how to emotion, pining, lovely family moments with Sherlock and Eudoria and a good old kidnapping to resolve it all. Enola/Tewskesbury

15. Kane Chronicles & Percy Jackson: The Death God Alliance by Asilda

I can't recommend this enough!! This series is beautiful. Nico stumbles across the House of Life, gets a god inside his head, nearly sparks an inter-pantheon war and befriends Carter and Sadie. Featuring the big brother Percy we should've gotten. Gen. Later fics feature Percy/Annabeth.

OK, so building that multiversal chaos sandwich so I may ship Death of the Endless and Susan Sto Helit.

So first major hurdle... Make two Deaths exist in the same universal plane. OK. So we have Death of the Endless, Thanatos.... The anthropomorphic personification of Death, who IS birth and death. Who carries the souls of the Dead into the afterlife.

Now Pratchett's Death is described as a servant of The Old High One known as Azrael, the Death of Universes and ruler of all deaths. OK he works for Death of the Endless, like a Lucienne to Dream. A reaper responsible for the literal act of Death. He is the Grim Reaper, who severs the living from life at their allocated time with scythe or sword. Save he could be responsible for Earth rather then the Discworld. If he needs a separate name, well there's always Bill Door 😅. He still rides Binky, he still loves kitties and let's totally bring Quoth the Raven over to be a friend for Matthew.

From then on, everything can proceed as normal. He can still adopt Ysabell, she still marries Mortimer and along comes Susan. Just like the books she's inherited her 'Grandfather's' gifts, but prefers to live as a human as a nanny or school teacher (Make her be one of Hob's teacher friends for the giggles). Now all that's needed is the meet cute with Grandads boss lady.

Death gets her very own BAMF Goth Mary Poppins, to be the deathling grump to her sunshine. Who truly gets her and her responsibilities. A lady love to call her own. 🖤

Well, that's that universal sandwich made... Now to feast!!
