So like...Danny as Ghost King getting to help sort people into the correct/prefered afterlives, and talking with all the Justice League peeps to figure out what they want/where they want to go ahead of time like it's a pension plan or like he's a Travel Agent.
Like he gives tours around various afterlives around the Ghost Zone, offers up different "packages" they can choose from.
"With the Ghost Package you can come back to the living realm, but you will be locked in with an Obsession - it's not as bad as it sounds, but we can go into more detail later on what it entails if you're interested - and you will be bound to a particular Haunt. Also my parents might try to capture and experiment on you."
"Unfortunately you don't qualify for the Revenant package due to how many times you've already died and come back, but I *can* get you set up with one of our Reincarnation representatives if returning to the living world is something you are interested in."
"Guardian Spirit is a popular choice, so there is a bit of a waiting time in terms of getting paperwork processed, but if you sign up for it now while you're still alive all that can be done ahead of time and you can jump right in once you pass on. You will need to make sure you regularly update the list of who you will be watching over considering your propensity for adoption."

That's our baby hero
Protective Amity Park Au but maybe not like you would think?
Danny's identity wasn't as hidden as Sam, Tucker, Jazz and him thought. His identity was an open secret, in fact his whole town knew that Danny was their hero Phantom, well everyone but his oblivious parents but they were a case of their own. The thing was his entire town knew about his oh so big secret identity and that he was the one trying to save them from ghosts 90% of the time as well as from his own parents crazy inventions at times.
Dash shoving him into lockers like a bully? Danny didn't look good and Dash tried in crude ways to give him reasons to skip classes to rest. It also later was a good move to hide him from snoopy government agents also known as the Guys in White or GIW for short. Really his bullying played perfectly into him finding creative ways to get Danny to skip classes for rest.
Valerie hunting him and other ghosts? Well she was hunting him in the very beginning, but then it became an attempt to make him stop fighting the ghosts on their behalf but in the end it turned into her trying her best to be the support to him that Sam and Tucker couldn't be in a fight. Let alone taking 'night shifts' from him so Danny could get at least a good nights rest every now and then.
Sam's parents the Mansons? Sure they didn't like him that much from the start anyway but most of their anger later stemmed from the danger their daughter was willingly get into to help their reckless teenhero that shouldn't be a hero at his age anyway. Let alone shoulder the responsible for their entire town at the age of 14.
Tuckers parents? They were glad any time Danny stayed over with their son, even attempting to subtitle convince the boys to have more sleepovers at their home. Surely being a hero with ghost powers and living in a house of ghost hunting parents wasn't easy on Danny. They were glad that they could give him some peace at their home. They willingly ignored it when Danny showed up late night in Tuckers room, getting patched up by their son.
The entire town apparently hating him with all these negative newspapers and comments? All fake in a desperate attempt to get the 14 years old teenager with a bad sleeping schedule and powers to stop risking his damned life, half-life. Surely if they appeared not thankful the kid would get the hint and stop playing hero. Like seriously he was a kid! Who's bright idea was it to let a kid fight these dangerous appearing ghosts?! Oh right the poor kids parents were incompetent when it came to ghost hunting and it wasn't like they could just up and do it without destroying the kids confidence. Plus the GIW were no help either.
Vlad becoming Mayor was not exactly their plan but they thought maybe they could use that as some help to convince Danny more that he didn't need to play hero for them just because he got powers now. That didn't turn out like they hoped and THAT plan was dismissed quickly. Especially when the GIW showed up. They learned their lesson sort of quickly after that, at least when it came to people from out of Amity did not mean well.
Lancer, at first when Danny first showed up as Phantom, had attempted to get into contact with the Justice League several times, so that Danny would actually get the professional help he needed and get some sleep at night as well as the time he needed for his schooling so that heroing wouldn't be the only career path he would be forced into. The additional point of getting the kid training too for his powers was also very tempting, there are only so many chemical breakers they could allow the him to break before they HAD to sort of ban him from touching them again.
But when the GIW appeared in their town they stopped trying to reach the Justice League. Suspecting that that was the answer they sent in regards to their SOS calls. Amity Parks protectiveness over their teenheroes that sacrificed to much skyrocketed. They started to sabotage the Agents subtitle. Always working within the limits of the orders and finding the loop holes.
"Oh but we did comply, not our fault that you guys tripped and let Phantom escape."
"Wupp, sorry I got that from the Fentons for self defence, but it looks like I need to work on my aim."
"I am so sorry, my car is stuck! See my tire is popped I can't get out of your vans way."
The fact that Amity Parks weather report was more a report on the ghosts, the Fenton parents and the GIW was all a tactic for them all to keep each other informed so they could execute any step to ensure their -by now- towns sweethearts safety. Even if they still tried to turn the poor kid away from being a hero with all the unnecessary mean comments and articles.
So when one day a hero from the Justice League showed up it was predictable that they all were suspicious of it. Even more so when that hero came with a bunch of teenage heroes. Apparently they were here to investigate a bunch of ignored calls one of the teenheroes found in their call logs. Some of the adults eyed Lancer who in turn was glaring at the heroes fessed up, he hadn't attempted to call them ever since they decided to sent the GIW into their town. Which apparently was more of a cover as these heroes showed an interest in the Fentons research of Ectoplasm pretty quickly.
Well now Batman and his flock of bats and birds were confronted with a very unhappy town that was apparently very protective of their hero and 'accidentally' continued to manage to block them from making contact with said teenhero. And who where these Guys in white suits that tried to suck it up to Batman? Better question why was the entire town suddenly hostile towards them when they started to look into the Fenton Family that had a connection to Lazarus Water?
Meanwhile Danny is confused by his towns newfound favouritism towards Batman and his entourage and how whenever he went to find out what was that about everyone seems to deflect. Even Sam, Tucker and Jazz were confused by what was going on!

Danny the park crazy guy
Ok this follows Danny with him deciding he needs to get out of Amity Park cause he's parents are getting more and more obsessed with catching Phantom. And the plans he'd over heard were sending him into panic attacks. Not only that a new management was placed for the GIW, and with that they had become more brutal and accurate with their capturing. Danny couldn't make sure ghosts were safe and protect civilians, so Danny made a deal with Technus in exchange for most of the tech Danny has made in the past 6 months Technus has to hack into the portals that his parents and Vlad owned and permanently destroy them. Technus also made sure to wipe all the information on how to re-build the portal and planted a bug that will corrupt any file trying to mimic the portals code/mechanics.
At first Dannys plan was to play the part of the defenseless boy who just witnessed his parents whole life work go down the drain, and pretend that ghost never happened. He's parents were sad (understatement of the century) but they soon found something to hyper focus on, before becoming ecto-biologist, they were trying to find ways to make liquid that would dissolve plastic in a non-lethal and non-toxic way. So after 2 months of not doing anything and only staying in bed eating ice-cream and fudge its like a light bulb turned on onto of their heads, and Madeline and Jack went back to their old selves. They still had moments were they would gaze back at their projects with heartbroken eyes, and Danny could help but blame himself for his parents suffering.
Its like one day everything was close to normality (as normal as amity park could be) people weren't mentioning ghost in fear that one would appear out of spite. Classes went uninterrupted people were actually happy for that.
But then the GIW started making moves, as they were getting more and more restless with no ghost sightings in the last 6 months.
Then 3 months ago everything went to shit......
Danny could only explain it as if the Salem witch trials had started. But instead it was the 21st century and people were being accused of being / cooperating / aiding ghosts. The GIW had stormed into the town hall and had claimed that Amity park was in full quarantine. No one in no one out. Vlad was taken in for 'investigation' accused of working with the ghost because he never helped the GIW or offered funds, hence committing treason the US government.
After that People would be taken out of their homes and obligated to take tests to prove they weren't with the enemy, if they passed they went back to their homes traumatized. if they failed.... Well no one really knows, but one might guess from all the screaming.
Ironically. Dannys parents were the fist accused of cooperating with the enemy. The GIW stated that they seemed suspicious from the start as they never truly caught anything. he hadn't seen them since they were drugged and stuffed into the back of a van. Danny was thankful that Jazz (for collage) and Dani (traveling in Bangladesh) were out of Amity, but it wasn't like he could contact them and tell them what was happening.
The GIW had cut all contact to the rest of the word from Amity Park probably because what they were doing was considered illegal and definitely were crossing human rights.
Luckily Sams and Tuckers family were able to come to an agreement with the GIW so they could be exempted from the quarentine (buy themselves a way out). Unluckily Danny like most families didn't have those types of resources.
But Danny isn't a Fenton for nothing, craziness, gull and genius ran through his veins. So every morning when they were obligated out of their homes and made to sit on the grass of the park square while the agents searched for any 'evidence' in their homes. Danny would use his core to emit a frequency that only other ghost and some metas could hear. But that wasn't what Danny was communicating to no.
He was sending commands to all the animals he had befriended the last 15 years of his life. You see ever since Danny was a kid he loved how one could be able to domesticate any animal as long as you had food. So Danny when he was a kid applied The Operant conditioning to all the animals he crossed paths with.
A few weeks after his accident (death) when Danny was making his daily feeding times for the animals in exchange for trinkets and money he realized something. He could understand what the animals 'spoke' and the animals could understand him through the vibrations of his core. When he asked CW about it he only told him that ghost speak allowed him to communicate with anything and anyone if he had a close enough relationship towards them.
Basically this meant that Danny had hundreds if not thousands of animals (rats, street dogs and cats, pigeons, squirrels ect.. ) at his disposal. The only reason he never used them when fighting Ghosts was obvious he wasn't going to risk the life of his friends.
And right now his friends were making underground escape routes for all of the Amity Parkers. The plan was already being set in motion. Everyone knew their part.
One group would be distraction, a group of kids would scream and point in the opposite direction of the escape route and say they had seen a ghost and it was trying to hurt them. The GIW would be guided into a wooded area were they would be attacked by the more predatorial animals. Making them call for back up.
One group would composed of the most athletic adults / young adults would go into the main base of the GIW (check for survivors and help them get out).
Another group (the elderly) was in charge of checking that everyone was accounted for.
Mothers, would be evacuated first with their children, they would be the get away drivers. Different drivers would take different routs. Some left the country other the continent itself. Some when to larger cities for hiding amongst the crowd. But the main goal was stick to your family and preferably if you can go alone. The less people the less likely you are to getting caught.
And the teenagers from casper high, would ensure all their traces were lost making sure all phones and gadgets were left behind, as to avoid getting tracked down.
And that's how Amity Park became a dead town (pun intended) in less than 60 minutes.
This leads us to the present.
It had been 7 months since Danny had left Amity park. he hadn't seen anyone or contacted anyone from there since. The over all consensus was that everyone had to go no contact with one another as to not raise awareness as to why so many people from different places were constantly calling one another. Danny was certain that Jazz and Dani had been contacted by Sam and Tucker about the situation in Amity. What he wasn't sure of is if they knew he was out of Amity or even alive for that matter.
Danny was not dealing with what happened well. One of the guys who went into the Town Hall pulled him a aside for a second when they were evacuating to tell him. That he had seen both his parents bodies. They had not survived. Not many who were taken against their will into the Hall came out spared.
Danny was devastated with his parent untimely death, he only hoped they had a humane one.
So no Danny was not ok. he knew Jazz would criticize his copping methods. But if taking over a park in the middle of a crime riddled city was sooooo bad then why did he have the support of the Bats. (not the vigilantes the actual cave bats).
Danny had gotten to Gotham not too long ago (about 4 1/2) months, and decided that the GIW wouldn't dare on their life go into a city were the 'wolds greatest detective and most feared man live'. Danny made an abandoned building overlooking the park his own. he quickly became allies with the fauna there and soon his rein over the part began.
---
It started slowly, honest to god not a single local though anything of the bony kid laughing his ass off as he oversaw birds and other critters alike help him build what looked like a greenhouse. They did what any Gothamite would do mind their own damn business and go on with their day.
It wasn't unlit the trees and torn plants started to build a wall like structure around the park that they started to think that the kid was going to be the next Poison Ivy. Worst of all they some have speculated seeing Pamela and Harley go in and out of the park... both smiling like proud parents. Some say that the kid was an ex Wayne kid that was sent into an asylum, and was kept quiet. Some speculate that the kids a meta that controls all animals. Some state they saw the kid talk to the animals and the animals actually listened and did word for word what he asked.
But Gothamites weren't that worried if they were honest. The kid (Danny as he was now known) brought more entertainment (of the good kind) to Gotham he fit right in. The only thing that made him stand out was his mid-western accent. When asked where he was from he would only stare at you while an animal (different every time mostly racoons) would chase you away. Other than that the kid was a sweetheart he would often bring the veggies and fruits he cultivates in the park to homeless shelters so that the residents would have a 'more nutritious and full diet'.
The kid would send animals to keep watch on kids and be alerted if any were at risk he would drop in and help in a very unusual way. And he always traded money for little things and bottle caps anything handmade (especially by kids) was infinitely rewarded with money and an automatic meal.
Danny was known as the Gotham parks crazy. But he was their crazy and no government (illegal) agency of a brigade of bats and birds was going to take him away from them.
(waaa this was way longer that expected I only wanted to write a sentence of local crazy Danny, and I just ended up writting mostly art other stuff)

Had a great idea for a Spirit Halloween fic!
Ok so I know people tend to write the Infinite Realms as being connected to all dimensions, so imagine when FlashPoint Paradox occurred (it created a completely different timeline for the DC universe before it was corrected by the Flash, one in which Bruce Wayne died in the alley) the ghost of Bruce Wayne came into existence in the infinite realms.
Clockwork is aware that reversing the changes to the timeline will destroy ghost!bruce but he uses his power to protect him and keep in existence. Because ghost!bruce has to exist so he can be in the right spot so when a portal opens up he can fuse with a boy named Danny and save his life.
DP canon proceeds for the next year or two, by this point Danny has revealed his halfa status to his parents but he’s still unaware that he’s bonded to a ghost (maybe the bonding event knocked ghost!bruce unconscious?) and after some time and a lot of talks they’ve come around to the truth that ghosts are actually sentient and just like humans some are good and some are bad.
Unfortunately the GIW are still around and with years of public ghost appearances and battles, all the footage and proof they’ve built up leads to the government deciding to expand the GIW. More agents, better training and more weaponry. Their mission statement goes from discovering ghosts weaknesses and studying them to complete extermination.
Some big fight between Phantom and some agents happens and maybe there were some bystanders killed, maybe Tucker and Sam or the rest of the Fenton family? And the sheer trauma of the event as well as the injuries Danny gets pushes through his bond and wakes up ghost!Bruce.
Because of the bond Bruce is aware of Danny’s memories and has subconsciously been learning with him as well as “aging” (he might just be subconsciously shapeshifting to match Danny’s age).
And now Danny is starting to hear a voice in his head, trying to comfort him, promising that he’ll never be alone. Freaked out, Danny travels to see Frostbite thinking he’s finally going crazy but gets waylaid by Clockwork, who finally reveals this whole convoluted plot he set up to prevent Danny’s death from the portal and ensure that Danny Phantom would come to be.
*I’ve always liked the idea that Clockwork aims every dimension toward the timeline with the best outcome, but Danny’s has always been difficult to see clearly so clockworks mostly making plans on the fly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I have no clue what happens next because my brain went straight to Danny and ghost!Bruce working together to figure out how to split, and eventually starting to grow feelings for each other the longer they’re aware of each other.
Eventually, something’s leads them to going to Gotham (I imagine Danny is in his mid 20s at this point) and they decide that with the GIW growing more dangerous they need to actively search for allies, ghost!Bruce doesn’t have super clear memories of his living life, probably doesn’t even really remember his name, but he does have a memory of a voice saying something along the lines of “Wayne’s always help when they can” and hey Bruce Wayne is Batman’s auger daddy, maybe he can get them an in with the JLA?

Danny secretly reforming LoV
(aka there are benefits of having 2 forms and being an underground hero/ spy other than flushing out human trafficking rings)
Danny is a secret powerhouse.
Sure, he's got the powers and personality for his daytime endeavors, but that's always been Phantom.
Fenton, however, is a different story.
He's got a few useful powers, and he's been asked on several occasions to work with some underground heroes that he just ended up being some sort of a double agent. Phantom is daylight, Fenton is nighttime, and neither are getting any kind of sleep.
Tonight, he gets a tip from about a bar.
----------
Meeting the League of Villains like this was not something he had mentally prepared himself for, but due to his general experiences he's able to school his expressions pretty well.
He's advertised his quirk to his contact as a general enhancer. His senses and strength are different enough from his more physical ghost powers for this to be a solid play, and keeping these particular cards close to his chest has gotten out of more than a couple scrapes. So when he walks into the bar owned by the League, he stands a bit taller, quirks his head a bit more, sniffs the air, and narrows his eyes at everybody.
He's a big guy. He got his father's genetics when it came to height, and he comes up to a respectable 6'7", and with his many years of training and hero work, he's bulked out quite a bit. All this to say is, even Fenton is a formidable foe. In the lion's den, he's gotta show that he's not one to be messed with.
"Name's Yokai," Danny tells them. "I heard you might be looking for new members?"
-----------
It goes well enough. Danny proves he can bring his own natural talents to the table, and lies through his teeth enough to convince them he's fully on their side. And though he didn't lie about hating the government and the Commission, it's still a pretty solid performance.
There's a weird energy around Kurogiri that sends a cold shiver down his spine. It's enough to clock that there isn't something completely human going on, but not enough to actually activate his ghost sense, which in and of itself is a relief. He has no idea how he would explain that when it's not a part of his known quirks.
Instead, he talks with Spinner first.
He's a stoic kinda guy who seems to be higher up in the ranks due to his ability to keep up with Shigaraki in various video games. He doesn't say much, but when he does speak it's practiced, calculated, as if one wrong word will get him thrown out. Danny knows it's something he's probably had to deal with his entire life. Not everybody is so accepting of mutation quirks that are as drastic as Spinner's.
He's also one of Stain's followers, which will either make things incredibly complicated, or a little easier on him.
Toga is, too, and it looks like Dabi has his own plans. The League for him just seems to be a way to enact them without much getting in his way.
He shares hobby with Spinner and gossips with Toga while they do each other's hair. While he can't let her feed on him for obvious reasons, every time he visits them he makes sure to bring a bag with him that he steals from a random hospital.
With Magne they talk about different parenting tactics, because while neither of them technically are, they're close enough. Danny's got Elle and Magne has this colorful crew to look after. They also talk about sexuality and gender, and Danny has had no discomfort in showing her the twin scars on his chest.
If they hug it out after that particularly emotional conversation, well, everybody is smart enough to keep their mouths shut.
With Mr. Compress, he's more of a theatrical kind of guy. Danny brushes up on his Shakespeare, giving a million thanks to Mr. Lancer as he does so, so he can converse with the man. Danny shows him a few complicated card tricks that make Compress chuckle at him as if he's a child, but Danny doesn't find himself minding one bit.
He goes through the whole League like that, more or less. He doesn't know when this became less of an information-gathering mission and more of a gentle-reformation one instead, but he can't say the results aren't there. They all look a bit more relaxed and at ease. Danny finds himself wanting to take care of them.
He of all people understands what it's like being different. Growing up quirkless and then struggling after his accident, he's never quite fit in. Unfit for regular society, not human enough or ghost enough to properly be in either world. He finds that most of the League have the mindset they'd of because of how society has treated them. And while their actions haven't been okay, he can't say he doesn't understand. If he had had a worse support system he probably would have ended up just like them.
Kurogiri is the one he doesn't hang out with much. Not because of any particular reason. He's usually busy cleaning, or breaking up fights, or setting up meetings or off doing who knows what. Because of his fast travel ability he's constantly running errands for everybody.
But when he does take a moment and slow down, he and Danny share some tea together. Or rather, Danny drinks tea in Kurogiri's quiet comfort. His motivations seem more protective than they are malicious, and that's something that Danny understands all too well. Even if the one he's protecting is a mislead murderer.
Because of their naturally ghostly nature, the two can communicate seamlessly without words. There's this underlying current of emotions that only they're aware of, and Danny's not sure if Kurogiri really even notices. Having not been around ectoplasm or ghosts in general, it can be hard to put a name to what this weird emotional feedback loop is. But Danny's got plenty of experience under his belt to realize that it's ghost related.
With this feedback loop and Kurogiri's general vibe, he eventually figures it out. It takes him a long time, but once he learned it was possible, the answer seemed obvious.
Two souls forcibly inhabiting one body, and neither one of them are in true control. He's not really sure how it was done, and he's not sure how to fix it without completely blowing his cover. Going in and separating the parasite from the host wouldn't be too much trouble with his overshadowing ability, but it's not something he can just do in the presence of the League.
He sips his tea instead.
---------
There's something familiar about the name Shigaraki but Danny can't for the life of him place it. Maybe it's because he raided the USJ during a training exercise in a desperate attempt to kill All Might. Maybe it's because he's the leader and figurehead of the League. But it's more than that, isn't it?
He just can't figure it out.
-----------
Months go by like this. Danny brings them things like medical supplies, gloves for Shigaraki, books for Compress, some high end burn cream for Dabi to prolong the effects of his quirk. He takes care of them, and in turn they trust him with information. Not enough to really do anything with it, but sometimes they tell him about a drop that happened, or a supply run they're hitting. A man named Sensei is mentioned more often than not, and he has to wonder if they've told this guy about Danny as much as they've told Danny about Sensei.
He's more than a little intrigued by this mysterious boogieman, and more concerned by the second about the mental toll he's taken on Shigaraki.
It's obvious the kid-because that's what he is to an immortal like Danny-didn't have a nice childhood. With a quirk like his, he probably had a rough awakening. His parents either didn't accept it or they were killed, or maybe they abandoned him. Either way, the clear malicious intent Sensei has with Shigaraki rubs Danny the wrong way, but he's not sure how to broach the subject without setting him off, and tipping everybody off that he's not really who he says he is.
It all comes to a head when Danny is invited to meet this Sensei character. He goes through Kurogiri's portal somewhere in the middle of the pack, with Shigaraki leading the charge. They enter into this large, cavernous room with giant Nomu test tubes lining the walls. In the very back, sitting on a high chair above the reason of them, was a man that just had an overwhelming sense of wrong. Hooked up to dozens of machines, Danny could tell that this man was more powerful than most of the S-Tier villains and ghosts he's fought. And judging from the weird energy that's similar to Kurogiri's, with an underlying current of maliciousness, it's not a surprising realization to Danny that this person should be dead.
"Ah, the famous Yokai," the villain drawls. Danny narrows his eyes as he feels a prodding sensation in the back of his mind, and firmly puts up all of his mental defenses. He's been mind controlled enough to know what it feels like, and he's not about to let some boogieman get the advantage on him.
"Ah, it seems like your heightened senses are good for more than just surveillance," the man says.
"It's a fun little party trick," Danny replies, trying his best to keep the edge out of his voice. Judging from the side eye that Dabi gives him, it's obvious he doesn't do a very good job of it.
The League up to this point has always been pretty laid back. Dabi especially usually has this aloof vibe he puts off, but all of them seem to be on high alert now. Backs are straight and their attention is forcibly stolen by the man in the chair.
"It's not very often that my young pupil finds someone worth his interest."
The nagging feeling in the back of his head is back, a more forceful prodding this time, and Danny closes his eyes to focus on blocking the intruder out. When he opens them again, there's a distinct chill in the air, and everyone has taken a step back from him.
He doesn't need to look in a mirror to know that his eyes are a ghostly green.
Fuck.
"You should be dead," Danny tells Sensei. His voice has this unearthly echo too it, laired in a way that tells everybody he's got just as much power as the man sitting in front of them. There's a sense of danger coming from from him, but it's directed at Sensei. His protective aura washes over the League, wanting to keep them from this battle for their own safety.
He takes a deep breath in, and lets his transformation take place. As he does so, it's like a little piece to the puzzle has unlocked itself.
Years ago-nearly a hundred years ago now-Clockwork had told Danny about a man named Shigaraki. About how he's cheated death time and time again, and how he will continue to do so. Danny had asked if he needed to go and stop him, and Clockwork had said it wasn't the right time.
With the man right in front of him, Danny can't think of a better opportunity.
The League steps back and braces for battle, and as much as Danny understands, it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt.
"I'm sorry for lying to you all," he tells them. "But for what it's worth, I truly do consider you to be friends."
Without anymore fanfare, Danny launches himself at All for One.
-----------
It's a long battle that takes down most of this mysterious warehouse they're in, as well as several of the nomus.
Danny pulls himself out of the rubble, stumbling as he does so. he's heavily injured, and ectoplasm is leaking out of him at an alarming rate, but dying is quite possibly the least of his worries.
During the fight, the League had tried to help, but it seems as though All for One wanted Danny to himself. He had protected them from AfO for as long as he could, but in the end Kurogiri was forced to take everyone away.
They would never trust him again. They would never want to be around him again. Danny should be okay with that because they're villains and he's a hero but he knows deep down that it's far more complicated than the black and white world most people want to believe in. Just because they're villains doesn't mean they're inherently bad people.
All for One is gone. Died and ended, with no hopes of ever coming back as a ghost, but in doing so he pushed away his friends. This little family he's found himself in.
There are helicopters and news anchors and paramedics and whatnot, and it's all too loud, too much, and it nearly overwhelms him.
So he disappears.
-----------
He doesn't want to go home to his lonely apartment so he doesn't. He can't call anybody or tell anybody because this is off the record and confidential to the nth level. So he goes to the one safe place he can think of.
Floating into the bar, he's not surprised to see it abandoned. Everything is still there, left behind by the previous owners, but nobody's there to greet him like usual.
It's fine. Danny expected this.
He didn't expect the ache in his core to come with it though.
He goes through the motions of hunting down a half decent first aid kit and gets to work, dumping alcohol on his wounds and sewing them up with practiced precision.
He's about halfway through with a particularly nasty gash on his arm when Kurogiri's portal opens in the middle of the bar, and the League steps out.
They look pissed, and Danny can't blame them. If he were them, he'd be pissed too. But now that his secret is out, he can finally do something he's been itching to do for months.
He ties off the stitches and wipes it down with a relatively clean rag before stepping up to Kurogiri. Everybody tenses, but with a nod from Kurogiri, they don't attack.
Danny transforms once more, and places his hands inside of Kurogiri's chest.
With his experience, it only takes a couple of minutes to separate the two. He pulls this purple, pulsing blob out of the host, and without anything to feed on, it dissipates.
Who's left is a man with clouds for hair and a bandage over his nose.
"i-I'm me again," he says, almost in awe.
"Took me a while to figure it out since I was undercover, but I figured that might help you out. Having a parasite forcibly put into your body like that can't exactly be good for your health."
"Thank you. Name's Oboro Shirakumo. Legally dead, I guess."
"Well, that makes two of us, I suppose."
"What do you mean? You're a daylight hero at the top of the charts, there's no way you're dead!"
Danny gives Toga a small, sad smile.
"Phantom is a daylight hero. Fenton, though...He's been legally dead for nearly a hundred years."
It takes a while to explain the accident and his growing up quirkless, but in the end, the League doesn't kill him. Maybe because they know it won't do them much good. But by the time he's done, he gives them an opportunity.
"Listen, I know things are complicated now, but...I've got a big house with more than enough rooms for everybody if you need a place to stay."
Wordlessly, the League looks to Shigaraki, who mulls over it for quite some time before shrugging.
"As long as it's better than this dump."
Danny can't help but give a relieved grin.
"Let's go home, then."

Woo Be Upon Ye:
Medieval fantasy TimKon AU where Kon is a half-dragon prince of the realm who elevates commoner Tim to the Royal Guard on a whim. Also has Bart as an apprentice mage, Donna and Cassie as Themiscyran ambassadors, many of Tim’s school friends as Royal Guards, Wildcat as a mentor, the Daily Planet staff as the royal council, and more! Planned as part one of a four-part series.
Bernard Dowd vs. The World:
After hearing Tim’s many, many, many stories about his friends, Bernard realizes that almost all of Tim’s guy friends were hitting on Tim at multiple points. Failing to convince Tim of this, however, Bernard makes it his mission to obtain written testimonies from as many of said friends as he can to support his case. Such friends include Superboy, Danny Temple, Sebastian Ives, Lonnie Machin, and more.
Two for the Price of Them:
In this AU, Tim’s 100th cloning attempt is a success, and so clones of both Kon and Bart are created. Partway through the artificial aging process, however, an agent of N.O.W.H.E.R.E. (overhauled from the same metahuman-abduction organization from the New52) attacks. Tim is forced to go on the run and off the grid with the two clone babies.
The World Didn’t Stand Still:
When Kathy Branden plugs a Phantom Zone Crystal into her teleportal and visits the Phantom Zone, she comes back with a young Krytonian boy, Chris Kent, who claims to be the foster son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Effectively taking pre-boot Chris from after his debut story and transporting him into post-Rebirth continuity. Part of a planned trilogy of fics centered on Chris. Guaranteed that they will not end with Chris getting punted into the Phantom Zone for an unknown length of time.
The Dichotomy of Lor-Zod and Chris Kent:
In post-Infinite Frontiers continuity, Lor-Zod begins getting flashes of a life before his own, of a life where he was family to the loathsome Kal-El of the House of El. Lor’s father, Dru-Zod, convince Lor that his affliction must be the machinations of the Justice League’s Martian Manhunter, a psychic attack meant to weaken New Kandor for invasion. Along with Non as a chaperone, Lor-Zod goes on a quest to hunt the Martian Manhunter, though he’s really on the path to restoring his pre-boot history and identity, and all the internal conflict that comes from the contradictions between his two selves. Effectively how I would approach reconciling the current iteration of Lor-Zod with Chris Kent. Guest-starring Martian Manhunter and M’gann M’orzz.
The Cola Caper:
Upon hearing the devastating news that an embargo on the island nation of Santa Prisca will halt the distribution of Zesti Cola in the United States, Dick and Tim go on a mission to infiltrate Santa Prisca and abscond with as much Zesti as they can, and maybe even the secret recipe if they’re lucky.
Stray Little Tiger:
A Billy Batson-centric fic placed in a Stray!Tim Drake AU. Selina Kyle, on her way home from a caper, comes across a lightning-struck boy in an alley. Clearly homeless and in need of help, she decides to take the boy in until he’s healed, though the lightning seems to have severely damaged his vocal cords. She doesn’t know that this boy is Billy Batson, that he’s Captain Marvel, or that there’s something deeply wrong with the Rock of Eternity. This story is told mainly from Selina’s POV, with occasional sidetracks to Tim’s POV, but never Billy’s POV. Identity shenanigans, found family, magic problems, and more.
A Single Word Spoken:
A girl in the shape of a weapon is brought to Fawcett City, where she fulfills her purpose for the first and last time.
The girl who can no longer be a weapon hides from her wielder in an old subway and finds herself transported to a place of great magic.
There, the girl who wishes to be more than she was made to be finds a Wizard, who sees the girl for her heart and not for the blood staining her skin.
The Wizard teaches the girl a name.
Cassandra speaks her first word.
And in so doing, she speaks power.
Also featuring Cass navigating the anachronistic Fawcett City, befriending Billy Batson, codependency issues, an old man who’s also a Bengal tiger, ancient grudges, a different old man who’s barely qualified to give Cass life advice, and more.
Fake it For the Win:
While on a cruise, Tim and Kon decide to fake being married in order to compete on an onboard game show for married couples. When they actually win, though, they have no choice but to keep up the act for the rest of their trip. Fake dating to real dating, with a focus on comedy.
Crossroads of Fate and Eternity:
JLI-era fic with a couple of canon-divergent indulgences. Kent Nelson, helped by Khalid Nassour, decides to take Billy Batson under his wing as a student of the mystic arts. Magic lessons, Tower of Fate and Rock of Eternity shenanigans, Bromfield family stuff, an ancient entity and an ancient demon, philosophy, and other such tidbits.
A Little Ways Along the Family Tree:
When a villain travels through time to the future and accidentally takes Robin with him, Damian Wayne must team up with Mar’i and Jake Grayson to defeat the villain and return Damian to his proper time.
A High-Speed Romantic Tryst on an Open-Water Murder Shack:
When a couple of thugs steal a houseboat belonging to one of Tim’s marina neighbors while he and Bernard are hanging out, the two of them give chase in Tim’s own houseboat. Comedy, crack treated seriously.

Soooooo your Cheese Melt/Kindred Spirits AU 👀
Since Dani figures out what Vlad’s original plan for her was, (which is what I presume she found down in the lab in that first fake screenshot. Rip XD), how do they end up getting close again? Obviously Vlad saves her life, but like, after that lol. Is it just a matter of Vlad routinely proving that he actually cares over the course of a while that does it? Something more dramatic?? A bit of both???
Also feel free to drop the deets on those episode rewrites you’ve got knocking around your brain, especially Living Large, because I’d love to see how that episode plays out in this AU <3
Essentially, yeah! It's just Vlad continually being really extra as a parent and making decent choices in regards to Dani. (He's selfishly selfless: He values his own happiness the most, but it just so happens that he's thoroughly convinced that Dani's happiness is what makes HIM happy. Leave it to him to twist everything to his own benefit, right?)
Dani is giving him another chance because ultimately, he did save her life and is clearly trying to make up for what was a truly horrible plan (that he actually abandoned pretty much the day after she was born. He may have convinced himself that he was just delaying the plan, but in reality the moment he decided "not today" was the moment he unknowingly doomed himself lol. It just took him a while to actually ACKNOWLEDGE that his priorities changed. He had no intention of letting Danielle die by the time she discovered the truth). Ultimately Dani wants what every child wants: a good parent. And Vlad, well. He's Vlad. But when he wants something, he throws everything into getting it. So Dani no longer believes Vlad is good like she used to, but she does still believe that he loves her.
As for this AU's version of Livin' Large, I'll drop a few details below the cut!
-The Fentons move next door to Vlad and Dani. Dani seems happy about this, Vlad is less so.
-In the original episode, Danny refuses to investigate what the Guys In White want with his family's portal, so this prompts Sam and Tucker to ask Dani for help instead.
-They get caught, as in canon, but Dani pings as critically ectocontaminated and is swiftly loaded up to be shipped off elsewhere. This coincides directly with Danny flying by after his little "maybe i should do something, actually" moment and he immediately swoops in to save her. Unfortunately, the GIW nab him too.
-hilarious hijinks ensue as Danny and Dani try various methods to escape confinement. None of them work.
-Ultimately, it's a deeply annoyed Vlad in a white suit and sunglasses who rolls up to the facility to collect his daughter. ("....What the heck are you wearing?" Danny asks with extreme derision. "It's called a disguise, Daniel, and it's the reason I haven't also been locked in a cage. Unlike you, I might add." Vlad fires back smugly. "You should see his other ones," Dani pipes up, prompting one to wonder just how many times Vlad has impersonated government agents before.)
-Vlad unceremoniously tazes an agent who asked for his ID on the way out.
-Dani turns her big Bambi eyes on Vlad to see if he'll help them save the Ghost Zone from certain destruction. Danny is like "No, that's okay, I think we're good." Vlad gives him a look and flippantly asks if they REALLY think the GIW are smart enough to destroy the Ghost Zone. Dani's like "they're idiots with a giant missile, they're gonna destroy SOMETHING, Dad."
-does this turn into reluctant halfa trio team up? yeah maybe, sue me.

how disarming you can be
word count: 3921
see end of post for content warnings
Danny woke up to a familiar tingle in his throat.
Then came the beeping.
Something was in his wrist and oh—fuck. Something was on his face. He was strapped down and this was it. The GIW had finally caught him. It was game over.
When he opened his eyes he caught sight of a thin white sheet wrapped around his body and wires and tubes and speckled gray ceiling tiles. When he moved his arm, the IV tube moved with it and before he knew it there were warm hands on his arm and Danny flinched.
Danny tried making out the words spoken to him, but everything sounded like he was underwater.
“—up his drugs a bit more. He’s coming to soon.”
In his peripheral vision, two white-clad agents in shades stood by the door with matching grins.
And the world went dark.
*
The next time he woke, there was a woman in front of him wearing scrubs. He couldn’t make out the words but there was a badge clipped to her chest with her face on it and the logo for West Amity Hospital—he remembered that much from after the accident at least. In the photo, her eyes were kind. They were a deep chestnut color and if Danny focused enough they could almost make the incessant tug on his wrist and nose disappear.
“—said, can you hear me, Danny?”
Oh, right. Danny was his name.
He nodded.
“Good. Now, can you tell me what year it is, Danny?”
Why wouldn’t she know?
But she seemed so sincere that Danny couldn’t not help her, so he told her the answer.
“And the current president?”
He told her the president.
She reached somewhere to her left and grabbed a clipboard. And jotted something down. Because this was a hospital, or it seemed from the looks of it. What happened to him that left him in the hospital—?
Oh God. He was a ghost. He couldn’t be here.
They’d know from his vitals alone that there was something wrong with him and then they’d call the government on him—and worse they’d tell his parents he was a ghost and so then he wouldn’t even be able to go home or back to his life and—
“Danny. Danny, are you with me? Your heart rate just went up by a lot.”
The world seemed to swing from a pendulum, and Danny had to pat the bed to make sure that he actually hadn’t floated off of it. He dug his nails into the thin, hospital bed and scrunched his eyes shut so that the world would stop moving but it didn’t help because he could still feel the swaying movement, tying knots in his stomach, and oh God why wouldn’t it stop.
“—having what looks like a panic attack. Danny, I need you to focus on the sound of my voice. Can you do that for me?”
“Stay—stay away from me!”
He couldn’t have them find out. If they didn’t already know. He was fucked. He needed to find a way to leave, to turn into Phantom. But he couldn’t have them find out about his ghost powers, so as long as he was monitored he was screwed. Where were Sam and Tucker and Jazz? They’d planned contingencies to make sure Danny never ended up in a hospital. How had he even gotten here in the first place?
The last thing he remembered was—
Ember.
She’d been at the mall, releasing her new demo. It’d been a quick fight all things considered, maybe she was still weak from the last time they’d clashed or maybe he’d just gotten the jump on her, but it took under fifteen minutes for him to wrap up the fight. All in all, not a personal best for Ember but close to it. He’d just gotten the cap on the thermos secured when the GIW arrived guns blazing.
Danny made a run for it. They chased him to the outskirts of town and Danny was so close to just jumping into a ditch, turning human, and hoping for the best. He couldn’t let them catch him, no matter what. And then they got a lucky hit. There was a glowing green spear jutting out of his shoulder and he had just enough time to register that fact before his flight gave out and he plummeted to the ground. Hard. It’s been a while since he’s hit the pavement that hard, but usually he’s able to bounce back given enough time to recuperate.
They were waiting for him on the ground. White boots surrounded him.
The last thing he remembered was the mechanic whir of a thermos and then squeezing tight darkness.
It just didn’t make sense how he ended up here.
The woman was still talking. Trying to assure him to calm his breathing, doing some kind of counting exercise that sounded like one of those meditation things Jazz liked to rattle off. Danny couldn’t afford to be off his guard.
“How did—how did I get here?” he ground out.
The woman paused.
“How much do you remember?”
“Answer my question first.”
“A lot has happened while you’ve been out, Danny. I’m not sure which parts you are aware of or not.”
“Fine. I remember being at school. Then I can’t remember anything after that.”
“School?” She paused, as if deciding how to phrase something. She gave a nod. “You were found injured on the shoulder of the road near the edge of town. You’ve been unconscious for several days.”
“That’s not right.”
Because the GIW had him. They’d put him in a thermos. Then they just let him go?
“You were found by a truck driver passing through the area. When we contacted your friends, they said they weren’t sure why you were out there.”
“You’ve talked to Sam and Tucker?”
She smiled. “Yes. Sam and Tucker. And your family, too.”
“Where are they?”
“Well, I imagine they’re at home. You’ve been out for several days, but they’ll be here eventually. Though, there is the matter of…”
“Matter of what?” he asked.
“I think it’s best that the doctor tells you,” she explained. “Now, is there anything I can get for you, Danny? Anything at all?”
“You could start by discharging me?”
She chuckled. “Not till you have a clean bill of health. Now, I have to go for a bit but I promise I’ll be back.” She tapped the remote built into his hospital bed. “Feel free to watch whatever you want in the meantime.”
In a matter of seconds, she strutted out. Left alone with the soft hum of the machines.
If he was going to escape anytime, it would be now.
He leaned forward, but as he moved there was a sharp pang of pain in his upper left shoulder. He pulled down his hospital gown and found that his shoulder had been bandaged thoroughly. As he shifted his weight, there was also a sharpness at the back of his neck that made black spots dance at the edge of his vision. Nausea pooled in his stomach and Danny slumped back against his hospital bed.
He wasn’t going anywhere.
Shit.
*
Danny didn’t know why his ghost powers weren’t kicking in to heal him, but since the doctors obviously hadn’t caught on, he wasn’t going to look a gift horse in the mouth. His vitals were also less fucked-up-looking than he expected. He’d checked his vitals in human form with Sam and Tucker several times, all of which were within impossible ranges for human beings (a resting heart rate of thirty beats per minute and normally hypothermic) but none of that was directly reflected in Danny’s vitals.
From what he could figure, the weapon that the GIW had hit him with must’ve done something to his core which explained why he wasn’t healing like he normally would. It rendered him visibly human. As long as it didn’t tip off the doctors, Danny didn’t really care about what it did. Though, there was the eventual issue of potentially permanent damage to his core, but he’d deal with that once he wasn’t being monitored by nosy doctors twenty-four-seven.
Now that he was awake, the doctors informed him that for some reason or another, some long string of word soup that Danny’s drugged brain couldn’t follow, they thought it best that neither his family nor friends would be allowed to visit him because of something with the stress levels of his injuries yada yada yada. Danny told them that sounded illegal. They asked him what law said that, and reminded him that he was still a minor. So, Danny shut up.
At least it spared him from Jazz’s flavor of overbearingness.
Though, admittedly he did miss his friends. He could only watch so much cable TV. The hospital’s channels sucked ass, hard. It was all shitty reality TV shows, movies from the ‘80s, and Cheers reruns. They didn’t even get the local news stations, so Danny couldn’t really keep up with the town at all. Unfortunately, the hospital said his phone had been smashed whenever he was found (made since, from the height of that fall—not his first broken phone nor his last) so his only way of knowing what was going on in the world was through his TV and the hospital staff and the hospital staff wasn’t budging.
The only person on staff that Danny liked was Carmen, the nurse from when he first woke up. The doctors kind of just brushed him off as a stupid mouthy kid, but she actually took the time to have a conversation with him.
“You know, your parents are good people,” she told him. “Must be cool with all their ghost-hunting gadgets and stuff. Or I bet you get tired of it after a while. Loses its charm when you’re around their stuff all the time.”
“Yeah, I mean their job has always been cool but it’s also a lot to deal with. Their stuff… is a little aggressive sometimes.”
“Aggressive? You don’t mean it ever targets you or anything?”
“Uh, I mean. It’s not supposed to,” he assured. “But Mom and Dad are still working out the kinks. It’s just part of their process. Stuff is a little sensitive around me, I think.”
“Just you? Why’s that?”
“Oh, you know. I’ve just been exposed to a lot more ecto-radiation than most people. Growing up in a house like that, it uh, you run into experiments eventually.”
“Your medical record shows that the last time you were with us, you were admitted for an electrical shock from one of your parents’ inventions.”
“Hehe, yeah. Um. The Fenton Ghost Portal. Don’t recommend getting too close to that during its power-on. Just a little shock, nothing too bad. I mean, Sam and Tucker made it sound worse than it was and so of course Mom freaked out and I didn’t even need to be admitted because nothing happened.”
“You were electrocuted by the portal?” Carmen’s eyes widened. “Did it hurt?”
Did it hurt…
Lightning wracking his body, pain touching every single nerve. The pain ended where Danny began and both bled into each other until they were one and the same. His body seized up, unmoving, except he could feel himself twitching as he was caught in the portal’s start-up, and he knew in that moment that he wasn’t going to survive. Screams ripped through his throat but he couldn’t hear them, didn’t even register their echoes because he was too far gone. Danny was dead. He wasn’t coming back.
And then he did.
“It was a pretty nasty shock, I guess.”
Her brow furrowed. “So, could that have made you sensitive to your parents’ inventions? You said something about—what was it?—ecton-radiation?”
“Ecto-radiation,” he corrected. “And yeah, that was probably it. I mean, their inventions started malfunctioning around me after the accident, but I don’t think it means that much.”
She hummed. “Probably.”
*
Danny needed surgery on his shoulder. He wasn’t sure what they could do exactly, but he was starting to panic because if they had him under the knife, then surely they’d see that his insides are a little too ghostly to be human. And even if they fail to notice that he bleeds a little green, what if by fixing the injury to his shoulder his core starts healing and they notice that his vitals aren’t right and then they never let him go home because he’s a freak of nature?
Danny’s fucked.
“I’m sorry, Danny, but your parents have consented to your surgery.” Carmen smiled. “They also told me to tell you that they love you and know you’re strong enough to get through this.”
Carmen squeezed his hand and Danny tried to believe her, even though he knew it was futile. They were going to find out he’s part-ghost and there’s nothing he can do about it.
“Now, let’s get you ready for surgery.”
*
When Danny came to after surgery, there were no government agents lurking at the edge of his bed. There were no baffled stares from the doctors. There were no ghost cuffs around his wrists.
There was one of the surgeons, Dr. Nguyen, and Carmen, standing to his left.
“Danny,” Dr. Nguyen greeted, “glad to see you’re awake. The surgery was a success and you’ll be able to regain use of your shoulder in the next few days or so, so no worries about that.”
He waited for it.
The ‘but.’
“But—” he held his breath “—when we were doing examinations after the surgery, we noticed something weird.”
Oh God. Here it is.
‘We  found out that you’re actually some sort of weird human-ghost hybrid and we’re going to have to release you to the care of the Ghost Investigation Ward. Sorry about that!’
Dr. Nguyen shuffled through some papers. “Your appendix is pretty inflamed, enough that we’re worried it might be cause for concern. Do you know what appendicitis is?”
What.
*
They had to be the least observant doctors in the world or something really, really weird was going on here.
Danny was a freak of nature. There was no way they couldn’t put two and two together and not come up with ghost physiology.
Now, the doctors were preparing him for a second surgery and none of them seemed concerned about the fact that Danny’s blood was a lot thinner than it should be and was also, you know, somewhat green. Maybe whatever damaged his core had affected his blood-ectoplasm proportion or something?
He was at a loss.
He was almost tempted to ask, but the last thing he wanted to do was give them something to look for if they hadn’t noticed on their own. So he kept his mouth shut and ate his stupid, sugar-free hospital jello and watched the stupid hospital cable. He was getting sick of Cheers, but it was somewhat favorable to the Real Housewives of Whatever Fresh Hell they’ve descended on now.
(Note to self: Real Housewives parody set in actual Hell. Sam would like that.)
*
“Any word from my family?”
Danny had been in the hospital for almost two weeks now, and he was about to go in for his appendectomy. Carmen had been at his side almost the whole time and it seemed like she was the only one who cared enough to relay messages from Danny’s family to him.
“Jazz says she knows this surgery will be a breeze for you and your parents know you’ll be out in no time,” Carmen said. “Is there anything you want me to tell them back?”
“Tell them I’ll see them soon.”
Danny would be out before long. He didn’t care if the doctors didn’t think he could handle seeing his friends and family, he was getting sick of being trapped in this stupid hospital room and he was going to make them discharge him. He had a life to get back to, after all.
“Will do,” Carmen said.
*
Danny was knocked out before arriving in the Operating Theater. He expected to wake up in his bed like he had during the previous surgery. He hadn’t been expecting to wake up on a cold, metal surface with a light shining in his face, white barren walls framing his vision, and a gloved hand streaked with red and green ooze digging into his torso.
Oh God.
There was a fucking HAND in his chest—!
“—subject’s heart rate spiked, I think he’s awake.”
“Knock him back out. Now!”
“—working—on it—!”
Danny wanted to cling to the vestiges of his consciousness because something was deeply wrong here. His blood had been green and there was no mistaking it.
But the world sank into nothingness all around him.
White walls.
Fading.
To black.
*
He awoke with a gasp. Carmen sat on a stool across from his bed. Expectantly with those oh-so-kind eyes he’d grown to know.
He wasn’t sure if he trusted them anymore.
“You know,” he exhaled.
They all knew he was a ghost hybrid. They’d been lying to him. And for—for what!
“I’m not sure what you mean, Danny,” she said softly.
“I woke up.”
“The doctors told me. That’s a traumatic thing to happen. The drugs don’t often wear off, but it’s a frightening thing when they do and—”
“No. I saw my blood. I know that you know about the ectoplasm, and for some reason you haven’t—why haven’t you—”
“Oh, Danny. We have been meaning to tell you everything, it’s just with your powers, the doctors and your friends were afraid that you would react the wrong way if we told you the truth.”
“My friends?”
“Your friends, Sam and Tucker.” Carmen stood from the stool and hovered beside his bedside. “The truth is, the night that you were found, you were captured by the GIW in a thermos. But then—we’re not sure what happened—they lost you somehow. You were brought here, bleeding out. Your vitals were off the charts, all of which your friends told us was normal. The GIW tried to get you back—”
“They what?”
“They did. But because you’re part-human, they can’t touch you here. You’re safe. As long as you’re in our care, they can’t harm you. Though, the drawback is that you’re also an ecto-entity and you can’t receive any visitors, which is why your family and friends haven’t visited. We thought it best that you have no knowledge of this because you might try to escape and put yourself in danger’s path before you receive medical treatment.” Her eyes were pleading. “Do you understand why we hid this from you, Danny? To keep you safe.”
So the doctors weren’t stupid.
He was.
“So that—so my vitals here. They’ve been fake?”
“Yes. We have access to your real vitals.”
He took this in.
Then there was nothing wrong with his core. Except.
“Then—then why didn’t—?" He touched his shoulder. “Why was I not healing?”
There were holes in her story. He wasn’t sure what they all were yet, but things still weren’t adding up.
“I’m not sure what you mean.”
When he’d woken up the first time, he’d thought it had been a trick of the mind, but he’d sworn he’d seen…
And when he woke up during surgery, all the walls were…
He looked beneath his hospital gown and etched onto his chest was…
No.
“Carmen,” he said tentatively, “did I ever escape from the Guys in White?”
She looked at him with wide, doe-like eyes. “Danny, are you sure you’re feeling okay?”
There were no windows in his room. She was standing between him and the door, so he’d have to make a run for it and fast. If there really was a real hospital outside of this room, then no harm no foul—Carmen would just chalk this up to extreme paranoia.
The other alternative was that there was no such thing as Nurse Carmen.
Danny didn’t waste time ripping out his IV. Instead, he just phased his arm out of it. After not using his powers for so long, his arm felt tingly and numb when he pulled on his core (and not in the familiar way). He leaped to the side, and his chest BURNED and he was suddenly aware of the stitches up and down his torso but he didn’t have time to think about that now because Carmen had just snapped out of her stupor and realized he was making a break for it.
Danny made a mad dash for the door and outside there was a dimly lit vacant corridor. There were no other medical personnel in sight. Danny pulled on his core and let his full transformation sweep over him. He wasn’t sure what he was doing yet, but he didn’t have time to think about it. He tapped into intangibility and flew upwards. He hit the ceiling with a resounding SMACK and careened down toward the floor.
Ghost shield.
“Danny,” Carmen shouted somewhere behind him, “Danny, you’re going to hurt yourself!”
If he couldn’t go up, he would have to follow the corridor until he found a way out. Danny shot down the corridor and noticed as he passed that there were plates for each room number, but none of the doors were open. All were shut. Lights off inside.
Because Danny was the only patient here.
He finally reached the end of the corridor. Where there should be a turn or a door, there was nothing. He tried phasing, but just as he’d tried phasing through the ceiling he hit a ghost shield.
Shit.
Carmen, frizzy hair in a high ponytail and donning teal scrubs, caught up to him.
“Danny, come to your senses. If you leave, the GIW will capture you. You need to recover. Let us buy you some more time.”
“I’m not falling for your tricks again!”
If the ghost shield was inside the wall, he couldn’t do anything as Phantom. However, if the wall wasn’t there… Fenton could step through.
Danny fired up an ectoblast.
Just as he did, there was a pinch at the back of his neck.
No.
Not a pinch.
Waves of white-hot pain—!
Electricity. He was being electrocuted.
He knew the feeling like nothing else. You never forgot how you died.
He crumpled to the floor like a rag doll and Carmen stood over him, a slender white button in her hand.
“A shame,” she frowned, and her voice was sapped of all the warmth he’d come to expect. “I’d hoped our game could go on for a little bit longer.”
Footfalls. More people were coming, from somewhere. Somehow.
Everything hurt.
Everything was on fire.
Carmen crouched down and lolled his head so that he looked her in the eye. “I want you to know that when I agreed to do this job, I was afraid I’d find something human in you. A scared kid. A sympathetic hero. Something.”
His nerves were BURNING—!
Carmen smiled, but not her kind smile. A twisted facsimile of what it once was. “And when I got to know you, I didn’t find it.” She let his head drop to the floor. “Ghost.”
He just wanted it to be OVER oh God oh God oh God—
“What now, Agent C?”
“Put him in the cell with the others. He’s had enough luxury treatment. We got the intel we needed from him.”
Her voice echoed. Quieter.
“Now, the real fun begins.”

Agent Lyons Saga: Mission 2 - Culture Shock
Mission 1 - Mission 3
~~~
Killian had long learned not to question the missions he was given sometimes. There were people far higher up than him that made those decisions, people with plans he couldn't begin to understand and could see the huge ripple effects caused by comparatively small things like this mission.
"You get the shot bro?" Calvin said said as he stopped flexing and took a breath.
Tumblr media
Killian nodded. "Yeah I got it! That'll be perfect for the post later alongside the underwear promotion." He forced a fake smile as he handed the phone back to his target.
He'd been slipped in as this dudes personal assistant to get close enough. Some unassuming dark haired, glasses wearing nerd wasn't his favourite choice of bodies, but he had to match the real personal assistant who they'd conveniently made disappear for a couple of days.
The jock swiped his phone back and gave a half smile. "Sick man, that'll be killer."
Calvin started down at his phone and basically then proceeded to ignore Killian's very existence as he headed off towards his bedroom. It was part of the reason the personal assistant was chosen; from all their research into his life this was the best opportunity to get in close unsuspected to do what he needed to. He wasn't the happiest about what this mission entailed, but it wasn't exactly his decision. "Better this dude than me." He had kept reminding himself whenever the thought came up.
With Calvin headed off to do whatever, now was the perfect time to get things going. He'd been trailing around with this guy all day and never found the right moment, until now. He slipped the small, pen looking device out of his pocket and clicked the end twice in rapid succession. The tip pulled back inside and a short needle extended out in its place. It was hard to believe this little thing, which worked as an actual pen, contained such a powerful little drug that was going to change this unsuspecting dude so much. Nevertheless, this was the mission he'd been assigned and he was going to carry it out regardless of his opinions of it. He was paid more than enough to not care about his superiors plans or what unfortunate fates might befall his targets.
Agent Lyons made his way quietly into the bedroom. Calvin was nowhere in sight, but the bathroom door was slightly ajar so he headed quieter still in that direction. Sure enough, there was Calvin with a towel around his waist, admiring himself in his bathroom mirror.
Tumblr media
"That you Danny? Better be fucking urgent." Calvin said when the bathroom door creaked open, but didn't look up.
Agent Lyons smiled and held the pen turned syringe behind his back. "Just wanted you to know that post has been scheduled, and you've got dinner plans with those investors tonight. They've just sent a message through to say they've moved the reservation up by an hour, so you'll have to get ready sooner."
Calvin swore under his breath and strode out of the bathroom. He switched his towel for a light robe on the way past Killian; the lack of modesty didn't surprise him for a guy that spent his whole life posting almost naked pictures of himself flexing online. That was his moment. Killian stepped forwards just as Calvin paused in the door and stuck the tiny needle in the jock's shoulder whilst he pretended to bump into him.
"Shit, sorry Cal. Didn't expect you to stop." Killian hastily apologised and stepped back whilst he quietly slipped the pen/syringe back in his pocket. Calvin didn't seem to have noticed. Perfect.
Calvin waved it off as he walked around through his bedroom into the massive walk in wardrobe he had curtained off on one side of the room. "Don't sweat it man, all good." He said as Killian followed after him. He'd rather leave now, but part of the mission was to ensure the transformation about to occur went smoothly, and to check the mental adjustments went off without a hitch.
"Fuck... What is up..." Calvin mumbled to himself after he'd sat down on the bench he kept in the middle of the massive clothes storage area.
What happened next was both fascinating and unpleasant all at the same time. He'd gone through many transformation experiences of his own over his time in this job, but this was the first time he'd been given a mission to change someone else.
Calvin fell back and groaned in discomfort as the changes began to roll through his body. The first sign was his skin as it lost its golden tan from hours in the bright sun and instead took on a slightly paler, warmer tone. His muscles stayed just as massive as they currently were, but lost a touch of the vascular look in favour of a slightly softer, bulkier shape in some places.
The final, and worst in Killian's opinion, changes were to Calvin's face. His short blond hair grew rapidly darker to a rich black as his eyes slimmed out a little to a distinctly more Asian style. There were a few more minor adjustments; his jaw reshaping, his cheekbones shifting, even his nose had a few little changes. All to leave him looking like a Chinese jock instead of the white one he'd been moments ago.
Tumblr media
"Waste of a perfectly fine white dude..." Killian muttered as he watched Calvin finish becoming the East Asian jock he'd turned the stranger into.
Why Calvin's race mattered for whatever the agency he worked for was trying to enact or prevent he didn't know, but he wasn't going to question it. He was going to let himself be pissed at being the one assigned to actually do it, but he couldn't knock them since he was the best actor of all the agents around. Undercover was his specialty, so he'd do it over desk work even if it meant having to deal with certain types of people he'd rather not be around.
When Calvin started coming to, that was Killian's cue to jump back into the worried nerdy assistant act. He came over and crouched down next to the jock and shook his shoulder carefully.
"Sir? Are you alright? You blacked out for a moment there." He said in a fake worried voice.
Calvin groaned and rubbed his head. "Fuck... What happened?" He said, not noticing the thick accented voice the English came out in.
Agent Lyons stood up and "I'm not sure, but I've booked a doctor's appointment for you tomorrow if you feel you need it."
Calvin smiled. "Thank you. What'd I do without you around here huh? Forget to shower probably, which I should really go and do before I head out..."
Killian smiled and stepped back. His work was done now, he'd checked all the boxes necessary to keep his bosses happy. That and he was itching to get out of here and away from this shitty mission. He much preferred the missions where he got to be a stud and didn't have to deal with foreigners, instead of a nerd that had to make a guy into one. But it was all over now.
He stepped out of the room and spent several minutes inputting data into his mission briefing before he left. He had to pose as the nerdy assistant until it was clear Calvin was settled and he wasn't needed anymore; disappearing out of nowhere would raise concerns. After 10 minutes had passed the new Calvin came out of the shower and told him it was fine to leave as he was headed out to the balcony, which was all the excuse Agent Lyons needed to bolt out of the apartment.
Mission success.
Rejected Threads Pt. 1
[This is a series where I post the bits and pieces I decided to cut out of their final fics due to various reasons. I welcome anyone who wants to pick this up and make it their own. You do not need to ask for permission to use it, but I would like to be tagged in whatever you make. Just so I can see it :) ]
[Everything here is unedited and may ramble at times. Enjoy!]
Okay, so maybe Danny still had a thing or two to learn about being a ghost. It’s not his fault, really! Being dead doesn’t exactly come with a pamphlet introducing you to the afterlife! Although if his friends were here, they’d just berate him, saying this whole issue could have been avoided if he used his common sense, not his ghost sense. Which is fair. He’d give them points for that.
But come on. How was Danny supposed to know about the GIW’s latest invention? Honestly, it felt so cliche that Danny wanted to smash his head against a wall. He’d been hit by a shrink ray. Except it didn’t work right on ghosts, because it was made by normal people who’d never even seen a drop of ectoplasm in their life, so instead of shrinking him it de-aged him. He looked like a four-year-old! Ancients, he was never going to hear the end of this from Jazz.
Well, that was if he ever managed to make it back home.
Right now, he was leading the rogue government agents through the streets of some damp city jungle, swinging through gargoyles and avoiding blasts with a few nudges from the city spirit here and there. A few pedestrians screeched from the ground level and had to dive out of the way of the GIW’s armored van, but Danny was confident they wouldn’t be seriously hurt. A constant stream of energy was flowing between him and the city spirit, giving the spirit the strength needed to pull civilians away from the fight with a few shadowy fingers. In exchange, Danny was suddenly living life in the third person. He could see for miles around him, feel the heartbeat of the city underneath his fingertips, and hear the quiet whispers of children and shades settling down for the night. The city spirit was everywhere and had no problem lending their senses to Danny so he could get away. He knew he’d have a headache later from overstimulation, but right now it was a godsend.
From his enhanced view, Danny saw one of the agents lean out of their van, raising a gun toward his shadowy figure. They fired. He dodged. Is this how flies felt? Everything felt way too slow, and he could run circles around them with ease. Maybe once Amity’s spirit developed more, they could lend a hand like this one was. It was incredibly useful, if not draining. He probably wouldn’t have been hit by that stupid shrink ray in the first place if he could see behind him. Ope, Danny refocused his thoughts, almost missing the next swing. He should be paying attention more.
Where should I lead them? Danny asked the city spirit.
The spirit took a moment to reply, struggling to form human words. North. To the park.
Gotcha. After a moment, a thought crossed his mind. What’s your name?
…I am Gotham.
Nice to meet you, Gotham. I’m Danny Phantom.
Danny. The little king of the stars.
“What? No!” Danny was so startled by Gotham’s words that he really did miss the ledge of a building this time, falling like a dead weight for about twenty feet until he caught himself. He still stumbled as his feet hit the pavement, but it was a lot better than becoming a smear. Danny glanced around frantically, but there was no one on the street and he was still invisible. He could hear the screech of tires a few blocks away, almost missing the turn as the agents tried to follow him.
Now that there was some semblance of a plan in place, Danny needed to keep these guys on his tail rather than lose them. The shrink ray put off some very nasty vibes, which is how the GIW was tracking him, but maybe they could use a little guidance. Danny rose into the air once more, and at Gotham’s prompting, shot an ectoblast high into the sky, letting it explode like a firework far away from any buildings.
The Bats will notice, but this is the only way. Gotham remarked. It was getting easier to understand them the more they talked. I will hide you if it is your will.
Green eyes tracked the process of that damned white van for another two blocks, just until Danny knew their scanners would pick him up once more. Then he was off like a rocket, starting their little game of tag all over again as he led them closer and closer to the menacing grove of trees in the distance. Who are the bats? He silently asked.
The Bats. My knights.
You have knights?? That’s so cool. Danny panted, swerving to the left. His form flickered for just a moment, putting him onto the visible spectrum for a mere second before he was gone again. Don’t worry about me, I’ll hide myself for now. Once they’re gone from your borders. You should rest after this, I can feel the strain this has on you.
Little king is tired as well. Keep your strength.
Nah, I’ll be fine, Gotham. You were kind enough to offer me refuge until I figured things out. The least I can do is take care of my host.
Hm….
Gotham’s mind retreated from his own for a moment, pulling back so he could focus on the fight. Danny appreciated it. He finally reached the trees, shadows extending to greedily pull him into the depths of the park. Danny obliged, letting the shades and wayward spirits guide him toward the center of the property. The GIW was still hot on his heels, plowing down vegetation like it wasn’t even there. A ripple ran through Gotham like they were waiting for something, and Danny almost stopped to see what the issue was, but Gotham just kept nudging him along. Danny trusted the other spirit and floated silently next to a gnarled and crooked tree that stank of chemicals and twitched whenever he turned his back. Beyond the tree was a vast patch of land filled with mutated plants and dense fog that Danny definitely did not want to breathe in. There was a broken down and shabby glass greenhouse in the distance, the source of the plants and fog. Well, this was as far as Gotham wanted him to go, so this was where he’d make his last stand.
The GIW agents tore into the clearing, skidding to a stop a few meters away. Out climbed three men, guns charged and already pointed at him.
“Reveal yourself, Phantom! We know you’re there!” One of them, Danny remembered him as Agent R, barked. His gun was the biggest, and Danny was sure he’d be the hardest to dodge. Gotham shushed his thoughts, calming his nervous core, and told him to wait. To stall.
Stall for time? He could do that. “You’re so mean!” Danny flipped upside down, fading into existence. He gave the men a sharp grin, one too shark-like to be human. “We were having such a fun game of tag! Why can’t we keep going?”
Agent B, a short guy with a bright red mustache, stepped forward and jabbed his weapon toward Danny. “This is not a game, ghost!” He squeaked. “You are in violation of section two, paragraph three of the First Anti-Ecto Act. By order of Agent Alpha, you are hereby under arrest for unlawful-”
Danny snorted. “Sorry, Agent Alpha? What, is his first name Chad? Is his boyfriend’s name Omega?”
“His name is Mike Foxtrot! You insensitive bastard!” Agent B spat.
“Agent B!” The third man, who was probably their leader, slapped a hand down hard on his subordinate’s shoulder. Danny didn’t blame him. This was the most information he’d ever managed to worm out of them in less than two minutes. He mentally pats himself on the back for the new record.
“Listen, guys.” Danny raised his hands in faux surrender. “You may have turned me into a preschooler, buth-” He blushed violently. He bit his tongue, ruining the intimidating effect he was going for. “But I can still kick your ass seven ways to Sunday. Whaddya say we leave it at this for now?”
“Absolutely not, Phantom.” Agent R ordered. “You are to come with us quietly or we’ll be forced to use extreme force.”
“Extreme force?!” Danny shrieked, losing his smile. “You already use extreme force! I’m a fucking kid, you psycho!” Rage built in his chest, and green made his vision swim.
Let it build. Gotham urged. Let yourself cry.
Danny sniffed, still ranting. “And now that I’m an even smaller kid, you want to arrest me?! What did I even do wrong?”
“You are a class 7 ecto-entity, Phantom. Your very existence is illegal and dangerous.”
Danny let a few tears drip from his eyes, falling onto the weird plants below. A few flowers twitched out of the corner of his eye, turning to face him like a human would. The trees surrounding the cleaning seemed to lean in, looming ominously as their roots thrashed under the dirt. They were trying to reach for something, but Danny didn’t mind it. Gotham whispered that the plants were no danger to him right now, so he just kept working himself into an emotional frenzy. “I DIED!” He cried. “IS BEING DEAD A CRIME NOW?!”
Gotham shivered. Wail. They instructed. Danny did.
“WHY DO YOU KEEP HURTING ME?!” His scream echoed throughout the city, carrying all the pain and anguish he could muster on such short notice. The connection he had to Gotham strengthened for those few precious moments, supplying him with enough energy so he wouldn’t pass out and transform. He did, however, collapse into the crooked tree, barely noticing how the branches seemed to cradle his limp body. The agents were blown back from the force, tumbling head over heels as their weapons were lost in the wind and their van tipped over. The nearest trees suddenly burst forth with staggered movements, surprising even Danny. Dirt was thrown everywhere as roots reached up to grab the men, restricting their movements to an almost painful degree.
This whole thing was so unexpected that Danny just kind of sat there, being cradled like a baby by the creepiest tree in existence, listening to Gotham’s victorious hums as the GIW agents struggled against their new bonds. More roots took on a life of their own, twisting and bending their way through the van, smashing all the equipment, and tearing apart weapons without hesitation. It was just so bizarre. Small footsteps from behind made Danny’s ear twitch. He glanced over his shoulder.
Approaching him from the fog was a beautiful woman who looked like she’d been made of plants herself. Her hair was a startling red, similar to Jazz’s, and her skin was such a rich and vibrant green it couldn’t have been body paint. Strands of ivy and flowers of all sorts were woven into her hair and clothes. Danny almost pegged her for the reincarnation of Gaea but thought better when he felt none of the Realm’s influence in her soul. No, this was a mortal woman who felt more like a daughter of Undergrowth than Sam ever did. He didn’t feel afraid, however, and instead allowed the tree to lift him to eye level with the woman.
Pamela Lillian Isley. Gotham whispered excitedly. My precious gardener.
“I am Poison Ivy,” The woman declared. “What are you doing near my lands, kid?”
Danny rubbed the tears out of his eyes furiously. “Sorry,” he sniffed. “I just-they were-” He broke out in hiccups, and couldn’t complete his sentence.
Poison Ivy, for her part, was curious about this obviously meta kid who’d stumbled across her beloved greenhouse. It wasn’t hard to feel the disturbance from all the way across the city, and her pace doubled when she felt a child’s tears fall onto one of her ferns. She didn’t despise children, and so had no plans to hurt whomever she found. But she knew that the fog surrounding her precious greenhouse was toxic. Then she’d arrived just in time for the kid to let out the most inhuman cry she’d ever heard. It was full of anguish and pain, shaking her to the core. It sounded like the kid was dying. She wasted no time capturing the three men who were hunting the kid, using the roots of nearby oak trees to give them a little squeeze. As an afterthought, she also destroyed their equipment and van. Everything looked a little too high-tech for her liking. The kid looked worn out, dazed, and exhausted. She made sure the tree he was in held the boy gently while he stammered, struggling to answer her question.
“They don’t like me. They -hic- keep trying to hurt me.” Danny finally managed to settle on a response. Poison Ivy gave the three men a deadly stare. How could they hurt such a tiny kid?!
“Well, I don’t know how to help you kid, but I can direct you toward one of the Bats. They’ll probably take you home.” She said, still staring straight into the eyes of one of the men. He seemed especially uncomfortable with the vines wrapped around his torso.
The kid shook his head adamantly. He floated gently upwards, an apology dripping from his lips. “Sorry, but I’ll find my own way back tonight. Feel free to do whatever you want to those men, they’re mean to me so I don’t care. And thank you for your help, Miss Isley.”
Startled by the use of her real name, Poison Ivy turned back to where the kid had been floating, but he had disappeared without a trace. Because of course he did.
She sighed, turning back to her prisoners. “Now what should I do with you?” She asked to the empty air. The only response she got was a rustle in the wind and a grunt of frustration from a man with a red mustache.
So like...Danny as Ghost King getting to help sort people into the correct/prefered afterlives, and talking with all the Justice League peeps to figure out what they want/where they want to go ahead of time like it's a pension plan or like he's a Travel Agent.
Like he gives tours around various afterlives around the Ghost Zone, offers up different "packages" they can choose from.
"With the Ghost Package you can come back to the living realm, but you will be locked in with an Obsession - it's not as bad as it sounds, but we can go into more detail later on what it entails if you're interested - and you will be bound to a particular Haunt. Also my parents might try to capture and experiment on you."
"Unfortunately you don't apply for the Revenant package due to how many times you've already died and come back, but I *can* get you set up with one of our Reincarnation representatives if returning to the living world is something you are interested in."
"Guardian Spirit is a popular choice, so there is a bit of a waiting time in terms of getting paperwork processed, but if you sign up for it now while you're still alive all that can be done ahead of time and you can jump right in once you pass on. You will need to make sure you regularly update the list of who you will be watching over considering your propensity for adoption."
Chapter 2: “Allies come in all forms”
It took a couple of days for the Fentons to calibrate the scanners as well as double and triple check that they were safe to use without hurting Danny. After that, Jack and Maddie worked diligently to create a stabilising agent to help Danielle. Danny couldn’t believe that they were finally going to have some closure with Dani and actually help her in the right way. Then, just as all their planning and preparations were coming together, it was time for Danny and Jazz to go back to school.
With the whole end-of-the-world thing, plus the investigation into Vlad, and the Fentons subsequent partnership with the FBI, suffice to say the kids had been allowed to take a couple of weeks off from school. This gave the young ghost hero and his family plenty of time to adjust to their new norm. Even though some people knew Danny's secret identity now, not everyone did and the family as well as the FBI preferred to keep it that way– both to give Danny some semblance of normalcy, and to prevent excitable members of the public from acting foolish.
The Casper High administration knew that because the family had been involved with the Disasteroid task force, the kids were approved for the time off ‘recommendation’ made by the government. The next Monday both kids would be returning to school. For Danny, that meant it was time to accept the fact that he was going to tell Mr. Lancer his secret.
Although the plan had been to keep Danny’s identity top secret, Maddie suggested that they at least tell Mr. Lancer. Not only was he the teacher that sent Danny to detention the most often, he was also the vice principal. As such, he had a big impact on Danny’s grades. Getting him on their side would surely be a big help.
Jazz wasn’t so sure about that, and Danny agreed. Lancer knowing wouldn't change the fact that he was still going to have to skip class to fight troublemaking ghosts all the time.
It was surprisingly Jack who reminded them that their parents were in fact ghost hunters. They could compare their information with Danny’s and update their techniques to hunt ghosts correctly, especially the ones that appeared during school hours. Maddie added that it was okay to ask for help and sharing some of the work would help Danny learn to manage his time better in a way that would aid him not only in school, but in life as well.
After a lot of back and forth, in the end even Jazz saw it as a good solution. When Danny told Sam and Tucker, at first they were sceptical of the plan, just like he had been, however, with a bit of explaining, they understood why it was a good idea. They knew their friend needed better time management skills after all.
Now, the night before the first day of school, the Fenton family was once again sitting at their kitchen table planning something. It always seemed like the best time for these conversations was over dinner.
“So, just to be clear,” Danny began his summary. “You guys are going to drive us to school in the morning so you can meet with Lancer after first period –which I do have with him. And if anybody asks why you’re hanging around the school, you’re going to say that you’re tracking ghostly activity, right?” “Yeah, that’s the plan, son. It’s that simple!” Jack replied confidently. “You know, you two still need to say that you and ‘Danny’ have finally decided to work together.” Jazz’s air quotes around her brother's name let their parents know she was specifically referring to Danny Phantom. “What are you talking about Jazz? I think just about the whole world knows that...” Danny trailed off when it hit him that she meant Phantom, not Fenton.
“Well, technically, they know that we as a family–and the rest of Amity Park, for that matter–worked with you, Little Brother. But Mom and Dad haven’t exactly said anything official about a permanent truce, or anything else really…” Jazz clarified. “I mean, the people that know, you know… they, well, they know that’s not entirely true, but it’s also not a lie… I mean, they are working with their son...”
“I see what you mean, darling, and you’re right…” Maddie rubbed her chin in thought. “We could mention it at the school before we meet with Mr. Lancer–if anyone asks, that is–that the Fentons are working permanently with the ghost boy. And once we explain your… situation to Mr. Lancer, well, he would understand why we were telling people now.”
They hadn’t thought about how it would look, working with Danny Phantom out of nowhere. They hadn’t thought they needed to make some sort of announcement, but they did. In order to keep people from wondering why, in order to keep Danny’s secret safe.   “Your Mom is right! That would also help to keep your secret, well, secret… wait...” said Jack, getting confused with the whole conversation. Danny sighed, “I guess, you guys are right… but please… don’t overdo it… I can handle it, I have been handling all of it fine.” He was beginning to worry that if their parents allied themselves with him, they were going to be in danger, or something along those lines.
“Don’t worry Little Brother, I have anticipated the most likely questions that people might ask after they hear that our parents are working with Phantom and written them down on these cue cards,” at this she pulled a small stack of cards out of thin air and handed them to their parents, “as well as some pre-planned answers. Stick to these and you won’t overdo it.”  “Oh, that’s great, Jazzy–pants!” said Jack, with a big smile. His children never ceased to amaze him with their ingenuity. He was so proud.
“We’ll read over these, don’t worry Jazz. And thank you,” Maddie added, smiling proudly as well. “Okay… I guess that’s it then,” said Danny feeling a bit defeated. There was nothing he could really do to dissuade his parents.  “Yes, and now it’s getting late, so… kids, bedtime!” Maddie clapped her hands together with cheerful authority. The two teens nodded, said their respective ‘goodnights,’ and went upstairs.
Maddie could see that Danny was still nervous about tomorrow, and she didn’t blame him. Since finding out the truth and helping with the cure for Dani, they had gained a better understanding of how difficult things had been for their son. None of it was easy, but now they had a better idea of what it meant to be a halfa. Although Danny and his parents had learned a lot more about him and what he could do, they also knew that just like Vlad, Danny would continue to grow and develop more powers. Powers that they now knew they were going to be prepared and ready to help him with. After all, they had already managed to isolate Danny’s ghostly signature and alter their weapons so they wouldn't affect him, or Danielle for that matter. Now they only needed to wait for the weekend to finally find Dani.
While Maddie and Jack cleaned up from dinner, the kids met in Danny’s room. Jazz knew her little brother well enough to realise he wasn’t going to just tell someone that he was scared, even though he was. Not that Lancer wouldn’t believe it, but of how he would react. For that reason, for the day that awaits him tomorrow, and the fact that the family had agreed to postpone finding Danielle for the weekend, and knowing that Danny probably wouldn’t sleep well tonight, she went to her brother’s room. There Danny confirmed Jazz’s suspicions, she gently coaxed him into talking out his worries and she did her best to reassure him. Jazz promised that her cue cards would work and that he should give Mr. Lancer more credit. Even though he doesn’t always seem fair –showing favouritism to the football players or occasionally turning a blind eye to Dash’s bullying– she knew that he had helped Danny with his grades, and cared about him as his student; being a half ghost wouldn’t change that.
When Jack and Maddie finally went upstairs to get ready for bed, they overheard part of their children’s conversation. While Maddie was a bit upset with herself for not noticing just how nervous Danny was, she was grateful that Jazz had. Jack also noticed that some comfort was being passed around and he felt a surge of pride that his kids had become such kind and sensitive people.
When the next day arrived, the Fentons set their plan into motion. Jack and Maddie drove their kids to school, right on schedule, although their plans took a slight deviation after that. Rather than waiting in the parking lot with the excuse of ghost hunting, they ended up exchanging insurance information with some of the other parents. As usual, Jack’s driving was… enthusiastic. Sorting things out took them the whole first period, and by the time they got to Mr. Lancer’s office, Danny and Jazz were already there waiting for them.
“Good morning Mr. and Mrs. Fenton,” Mr. Lancer greeted them. “So glad you could join us.” “Morning!” Maddie and Jack replied at the same time, sharing a smile at the coincidence. “You two said that you needed to discuss something with me, but I’m still not entirely sure why these two,” at this Mr. Lancer gestured to where Jazz and Danny were sitting in front of his desk, “need to be here. All Jasmine would tell me is that it's a family matter, and Daniel here seems to be on the edge of a nervous breakdown.”
He looked back and forth between the kids and the parents appraisingly before closing the door to his office and offering them a seat.  With the whole family finally seated in front of Mr. Lancer's desk, Maddie began the explanation, “Well, Jazz is right, this is a family affair. And it’s about Danny...” She checked on her son who seemed to be calming down now that his parents were here. “I see...” said Mr. Lancer, pausing at his desk. “Is this because the school year is about to finish and you’re worried about his grades?” He glanced suspiciously between Danny and his parents. It wouldn't be the first time he’d seen a family rally together to help save a struggling student from being held back a year.
“What? No!” Maddie spluttered. “Well, yes… we are worried about it, but that’s not why we’re here today.” It wasn’t hard to understand why he’d come to that conclusion. It was in part why they were having this conversation, after all.  “Please, Mr. Lancer, wait until after my parents finish. Then you’ll understand what this is all about.” Jazz pleaded, hands clasped in front of her. “It’s all right, Jazz.” Danny murmured, giving her arm a calming squeeze before directing his gaze to his teacher “I kinda figured Lancer would bring that up… I mean… this whole year has been...” “Unprecedented, nightmarish, messy, crazy, ect., ect.?” Mr. Lancer supplied with a raised eyebrow, finally taking a seat at his desk. He seemed like he just caught up with the fact that he was still standing up unnecessarily.
“Yeah. All that. And ghostly…” Danny muttered the last part under his breath, avoiding eye contact with Lancer.
Maddie cleared her throat softly, “Mr. Lancer, if I may… please?” She had noticed that Danny was starting to feel bad and decided it was time to intervene. His grades were as important to him as fighting ghosts, even though it might not look like that from the outside. “Yes, of course, Mrs. Fenton. By all means, please tell me what this is all about.” Mr. Lancer had also noticed Danny’s change in attitude and decided to focus more on the parents, mainly on Maddie seeing as she was the one taking the lead. Jack sat next to her in silent support, but his worry for Danny was plain to see. “Well...” Maddie began, glancing back at Danny who nodded.
Mr. Lancer took notice of the exchange and was about to comment when Maddie finally spoke, interrupting his thoughts.
“Danny is ‘Danny Phantom.’” she said.  “What?” Mr. Lancer spluttered, caught off guard. “What in the name of the Scarlet Pimpernel! That doesn’t make any sense… What’s really going on here? I would have believed something like this from young Daniel…” he stopped, noticing that Maddie seemed to sincerely believe what she was saying.
“Danny,” the boy murmured under his breath. He was a bit annoyed that Mr. Lancer still called him ‘Daniel,’ even in moments like this. Especially in moments like this. “It’s Danny.”
Mr. Lancer looked back and forth between Maddie and her son. He began to worry that something else might be happening, something that the family either doesn’t know about, or doesn’t know how to explain. Because although his student being a ghostly superhero would explain a lot, it was impossible. Wasn’t it?
“Just show him,” Jazz suggested in a loud whisper. She knew that Mr. Lancer would believe him if only he saw it for himself. Knowledge of halfas was global now, so it wouldn’t be hard to make the connection. If they just told him without showing him, he might just think Danny was faking it, using Vlad’s revelation as inspiration.  Danny looked up at his parents who gave him an encouraging nod. “...Fine.” He sounded a bit annoyed to be put in this situation, but proceeded to stand up anyway.
“What are you doi–” Mr. Lancer began to ask. He was getting worried as to why it seemed like everyone knew something he didn’t, because show him what? “Going ghost,” Danny quietly said his catchphrase, transforming into Danny Phantom in a bright flash of light. Mr. Lancer blinked the spots from his eyes, using the silence that followed to process his thoughts. It would seem that their former Mayor wasn’t the only halfa in Amity Park. He had anticipated a few of the more creative kids would probably play pretend at being a ghost and a human at the same time, but never in his wildest dreams could he have anticipated one of his students actually being one.
A single, quiet, “Oh” was all the stunned teacher managed to say.  “Are, are you okay, Mr. Lancer?” Danny prompted, changing back into Fenton and retaking his seat. Maybe that had been a bit too much for him after all.
“You know what Mr. Fenton, that makes a lot of sense...” Mr. Lancer finally said, looking across his desk at Danny. He gave the boy a small, sad, smile, because it did make a lot of sense. “Wait, what?” Danny said, confused. He hadn’t really been expecting that reaction, even though he had assumed that Vlad’s precedent might either help or hurt his situation.
“Well, it does… The skipping school every time there’s a ghost attack, the slacking on your homework, the sleeping in class… All starting around the same time as the ghosts showed up, it makes perfect sense. I’m assuming your whole family knows, and I hope that your parents didn’t know until recently...” Mr. Lancer gave Jack and Maddie a stern look. Just thinking about the hundreds, if not thousands, of times that he saw the Fentons hunting Phantom… it couldn’t be possible, right?
“Of course, we didn’t!” said Maddie quickly. Neither she or Jack wanted this to be like their interrogation with the FBI, they didn’t want to have to defend themselves again. They love their kids, and would do anything to protect them. If they had known it all from the beginning, maybe the thing they needed protection from wouldn’t have been them. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. The possibility of losing their kids to child services like the FBI threatened them with at the start had been a rude awakening. “We would never have knowingly hunted our son,” said Jack, the normally jovial man deathly serious. He felt the same as Maddie, remembering how bad the interview with the Feds was, especially at the beginning. “Oh, for the love of… you know what, never mind.” Mr. Lancer shook his head defeatedly. “I’m not going to think about it. I am assuming that isn’t all?”
“You’re right about that,” Maddie sighed, her face serious. “Do you remember when the FBI interviewed our family and practically everyone around us?” She knew she had to say something about it regardless, he would need to understand the conditions that he was bound by now.
Mr. Lancer nodded, allowing her to continue her explanation.
“Well, they know. About Danny... Mr. Lancer, this is highly classified information we’ve just shared with you.” Her eyes pierced his, impressing on him the gravity of the situation. “They said we should keep it secret, only those who already knew and no one else.” “Oh. I see…”  Mr. Lancer’s voice was solemn with understanding. The situation was more serious than what he had originally thought. “So, your friends, Samantha and Tucker...” he raised a questioning brow at Danny. “They know. They’ve known since the beginning, actually.” Danny said with a small shrug.  “Oh, and Valerie knows… Valerie Gray. She found out while we were working on the intangibility transfer device. Well, while her father was working on it, but you know...” he shrugged again.
“I see…” Mr. Lancer nodded. “I understand.” His hunch had been correct, Danny’s friends had been covering for him in class for a while now, and he finally knew why. The mention of Miss Gray was a bit of a surprise, but it made sense if something had happened to reveal Danny’s identity while she and her father had been working on the device. That also meant that the other people who already know are those who were involved with the task force in Antarctica.
“With all that being said, Mr. Lancer,” Maddie called his attention back to her, “while we’re here, we would like your help with Danny’s schedule. I’m sure you’ve noticed that his time management skills could use some improvement.”
“I can agree with that,” Mr. Lancer said, giving Danny a faux stern look.
At this, Jack chimed in, “Now that we know what’s going on, we can help fight the ghosts that appear during school hours. We’ll probably still need to pull him into the field some, though, especially while we’re still getting used to things.”
“Very well, the three of us can continue to discuss a plan, but,” Mr. Lancer glanced up at the clock on the wall, “I think it’s time for Jazz and Danny to go back to class.”
He began to pull some papers out of a drawer in his desk while the Fentons stood up from their chairs. “All right then, I guess we should get going…” Danny said, stretching his arms above his head. He was feeling very relieved that Mr. Lancer was taking it so well and seemed eager to help. He couldn’t stop his smile as he addressed his teacher, “Thank you, Mr. Lancer.”  “Why, whatever for?” he asked with a smile. Mr. Lancer wasn’t exactly sure as to why Danny suddenly seemed more relaxed, but he couldn’t be more proud. He knew that a topic like this one must be hard for the whole family, especially Danny. “Never mind, just… Thank you.” he was still smiling as he slung his backpack over his shoulder.
“Of course,” said Mr. Lancer. He handed Danny and Jazz the papers he had just signed, “Oh, don’t forget these, your hall passes. Just give them to your teachers and your tardiness will be excused. And if there’s anything else I can do… just let me know.”  “Oh, right… Um, thank you,” Danny stuttered out, caught off guard by the kind offer.
Maddie, Jack, and Jazz watched the scene unfold, the three unable to keep the grins off their faces, they knew that all Danny needed was a little understanding and guidance. The three of them exchanged a glance, silently agreeing to each help him in their own ways.
“Let’s go, Little Brother,” Jazz looped her arm through Danny’s and pulled him towards the door, making sure they both had their hall passes. “And thanks again, Mr. Lancer! For everything! Bye, Mom! Bye, Dad!”
“Bye, Sweety!” Maddie called back, “We’ll see you at home later!”
Jack waved, voice booming as he called out, “Bye, kiddos!”
After the kids had gone, the three adults returned to their seats, they had planning to do, after all. Once sitting, Mr. Lancer pulled out a notebook and together they started brainstorming different ways to help Danny, both with school matters as well as ghost fighting activities–because they all knew he wasn’t going to stop anytime soon. They began with an easy schedule that could help Danny better make use of his time. At one point, Lancer proposed to let some of the other teachers know about Danny’s secret, but the Fentons reminded him that the information was highly classified. It’s not the sort of thing you can just go around telling people. They had to fill out so much paperwork with the FBI in order to get approval to tell just him. That’s how Mr. Lancer knew that the issue was very serious. He asked how the FBI was keeping it a secret, but all the Fentons could say was that it was classified, and no, they didn’t know either.
They had been at it for quite a long time when they heard the unmistakable sounds of a fight in the hallway. Mr. Lancer rushed to the door, the Fentons hot on his heels, thankfully, because this wasn’t your average school fight, this was a ghost fight. The three adults arrived at the scene just in time to see none other than Danny Phantom flung into a row of lockers.
Jack and Maddie decided that it was about time they joined in the hunting, that was a big part of their plan, after all. They really needed to be more alert to ghost activity during school hours so Danny could concentrate more in class. Class that Danny certainly wasn’t present for right now, for obvious reasons.
While his parents had stayed to talk with Mr. Lancer, Danny had made his way to his next class. Everything was going well, that is until Danny’s ghost sense went off. He had run out of the classroom, calling a lame excuse to his teacher on the way.
Danny found the ghost in the computer lab, it was none other than Technus. Danny had lost count of which ‘version’ he was supposed to be at this point, and he didn’t really care. Danny only knew that he was up to no good.
Every time Danny fought Technus, he boasted that his plan was better than the last and that he wouldn’t be shouting it out, and each time he failed. This time wasn’t any different. They started in the computer lab, but Danny managed to lure the ghost outside, away from all the technology in the building, only denting a few lockers on the way. Once they were on the lawn, Danny was able to create a distraction and it was in that moment that his parents attacked Technus, weakening him enough that Danny could capture him in the Fenton Thermos.
While the Fentons joined the fight, ecto-guns blazing, it was time for Mr. Lancer to play his part. Danny had probably used an oldie, but a goodie: the Toilet Excuse to get out of class, but it wouldn’t be enough for how long this fight was going to take. He knew which teacher Danny had this period, so he just needed to find a place near that classroom to wait for him and walk him personally back to class. Perhaps he could say that he’d needed the boy’s help carrying some extra textbooks or something. Danny would likely need a place to transform back–something that it would take Mr. Lancer a bit of time to get used to–but he did manage to find a good spot for that.
Once their battle was over, Danny handed the thermos to his parents so they could put Technus back in the Ghost Zone. In turn, his parents gave Danny encouraging nods and proud smiles. It was nice to be appreciated, but Danny really needed to get back to class. He was surprised to find Mr. Lancer waiting for him just inside the school to walk Danny back to his class, fake thanking him for helping with something in his office. When they reached the classroom, Lancer mentioned to Danny’s teacher that he had found Danny just outside the bathroom, and remembered something that he needed help with and Danny was perfect for the job. That explanation to Danny’s teacher was enough to avoid detention again, but it gained him snickers from his classmates. While being the butt of a joke wasn’t ideal, it was a whole lot better than detention. This whole situation might just work out after all.
Danny took a seat at his desk and decided to concentrate as much as possible on today’s lesson. Sam and Valerie tried to ask what happened, but Danny only gave them a quick thumbs up and a smile to let them know it went well. He would give them a more detailed explanation after class or during their lunch break. It was times like these that they really missed Tucker, but they knew that with him being the mayor, private tutoring was the best option for him.
At least for the rest of the day Danny wouldn’t need to worry about getting detention or fighting ghosts. He knew that his parents were going to be patrolling around the school, Lancer had his back at school, and the ghost of the day-or at least for the time being- was trapped in the Fenton Thermos. He could just relax with his girlfriend and Valerie, and he would get to do a video call with Tucker during the lunch break.
Things were looking good, after all this time, even though it had been a lot of new things to get used to. Danny never thought –even when he had seen it before– that it would feel so good telling people his secret. Of course, he wasn’t just going to go around telling people left and right, it had to be to select people. Letting Mr. Lancer into the fold had been more strategy than anything else, but it was still nice to have him on the team.
The day ended without further incident. Team Phantom enjoyed talking with their mayor friend during lunch. They caught him up with the situation at the school and told him how Lancer had reacted to the news. Tucker, likewise, updated them with the news of his personal proposal.
Because the last mayor had been a crazy halfa, and his teenage ghost hunters were fired and dismissed, the whole town had been under siege by ghost attacks. Something needed to be done, and it was going to take a lot of work for the city to recover. Tucker, as the mayor selected after a major disaster like this, would have to step up to the plate. It would be a full time job, with no time to go to school. So, the rest of the politicians and personnel of the city council decided that the best course of action was that he should have private tutors, since he hadn't graduated from high school just yet. Tucker, since winning the election and realising, or rather learning, that he wouldn’t be able to go to Casper high any longer, began working on a proposal. It was as follows: he would serve as mayor until the next election, at which point he would leave his position until later in life, should he wish to run for re-election. With his parents' help, Tucker had proposed his return to Casper high in the next school year to the city council. They had approved it, but in the meantime, Tucker had to pass his classes and learn more about politics, especially those of Amity Park. He was allowed to communicate with his old friends only during breaks, however his private tutors made sure that his schedule was similar to what he was used to. Those tutors also knew about his friends and about Danny’s secret identity, but they wouldn't say a word, not only because they got a ‘friendly’ warning from the FBI, but because they had always considered him a hero, even before he had become recognized as both a local and global hero by everyone else.
Danny Fenton was happy with how everything seemed to be working out. His parents and Mr. Lancer had come up with a good plan to help him out during school hours. They helped him to create a better way to manage his time after school that not only would allow him to keep fighting ghosts when needed, but to also just be a teen. He would have time to take care of his responsibilities, homework and chores and the like, as well as to have fun with his friends. Danny never thought that all he needed was a little help with time management. His grades were already improving, and with the rest of the school year to go, he knew he would pass his classes.
Just like that, the time flew by and the week turned into the weekend. It was finally time to look for Danielle. To be continued :D :D
Scott Free was supposed to be having just a normal day with his wife, a nice calm picnic in an isolated area so they wouldn't be bothered. They were supposed to eat together and relax and not worry about a damn thing! But that plan vanished as a stranger appeared and said, "Scott Free. I have a deal for you. How would you like to never have to worry about anything to do with Darkside ever again?"
That is how the conversation started and I ended with Scott and his wife thinking about about dangerous bargin the stranger had offered. Darkside would die, permanently. Done by the hands of someone who owed the stranger a favor. The man gave no details on the other person or how they could possibly do it, but in exchange for this he needed a debt. His exact words were, "I shall call upon you for a favor at a later time. Your task will be clear when the time and place is correct." And he refused to give any more details and told them they had 24 hours to decide.
They both agreed it was incredibly Sketchy at best. But... if this person truly knew a way to kill Darkside forever? Could they throw away that chance? This is a once in a life time opportunity but... what of the favor the stranger requested?
After exactly 24 hours the one eyed man came back and asked them their decision. Scott gave a nod and simply said, "yes. Kill Darkside and I will be in your debt." The Stanger grinned and held out his hand for a shake to make it official. Scott yelped and pulled his hand back when something pricked his palm and the stranger shows a single drop of blood on their palm as they say, "a pact sealed in blood. I will be back for you soon."
A week later Danny beats Darkside in single combat, forced to kill the Dark God in order to survive. From his perch, Clockwork gets ready to swoop in, knowing that what awaits Danny on the other side of the portal home is a large number of GIW agents and his parents. Normally it wouldn't be to big of a problem but he did just finish a fist fight with Darkside.
Time freezes as the injured Boy King is forced to retreat into his core due to his massive number of injuries. Gently plucking the core from the air, Clockwork puts on his human disguise and goes to cash in a debt he created with an escape artist one week prior.
After all, Danny needs someone to protect his core until he can reform and after that he will need new parents who can help him understand his new task of ruling both the ghost zone and a hell planet.
Danny getting crazy literal God parents. I love this sm
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The nets burned as the agent dragged them to their doom.
Danny held Jason’s hand as they tried to scramble to follow; each time they had tried to get their footing, they’d catch on the netting, making things worse. It was like someone was laughing at their struggle, finding amusement as they desperately tried to make it even slightly more bearable for themselves.
He couldn’t help but blame himself for Jason being here. The boy said himself that he only came to find him because they were twins and he was so, so stupid for running. He thought back to the panic-filled night before; meeting with the spirit of the city, Nightwing and Batgirl, the bomb ass cookies Agent A made, and felt he may have... overreacted. It’s not like they actually said that ghosts were dangerous, and he could’ve explained and then they wouldn’t be in this situation-
The agent bumped them against the wall. They shouted and jerked to no avail.
Did he bring the agents to Gotham? Were they there for him? Were they tracking him more closely than he’d thought they were?
He didn’t know what to think anymore. Even if they had been in Gotham beforehand, he’s nearly positive the bats would’ve figured out a way to keep Jason safe. It was his fault Jason had gotten captured. Why hadn’t he just run when he had been offered the chance?
At least he was good at doing things like worrying about food and water while they were trapped here.
He tried his best to remember what twists and turns they took. He wasn’t sure about the other boy, but he sure as hell was planning on getting out of here eventually.
The agent abruptly stopped at a room, knocking twice before opening the door. They were shoved inside where two other agents were waiting.
They each grabbed one twin by the shoulders, wrenching their hands apart. They each gave their own protest, Jason’s a bit more violent as he kicked, but it didn’t matter. They didn’t say anything. They barely looked at them as they held them up in the nets.
He debated trying to use his ectoblasts, but he’d seen ghosts go inside these nets before. Every one of them that tried to use their powers-
He vaguely saw Jason’s hand glowing. Ohnononono, fuck-
“Robin-!” he shouted, too late. He tried to blast the guy holding him.
He immediately started screaming as the net electrocuted him. He winced in sympathy.
The agent was unscathed. He needed to figure out what this net was one day, but he’d never been able to snag one.
The agent laughed. “Having fun there, little ghostie?” he taunted as Jason writhed in pain in his grip. “Like our tech? Makes catching you little shits so much easier-”
“That’s enough, Agent L.”
Agent J was back, holding two different collars. They went up to Jason first, feeding it through the net before getting it around his neck. He tried to struggle, but after getting blasted by the net, he didn’t seem to have much energy. Agent J secured it around his neck, messing with the settings for a bit before moving on.
Danny watched out of the corner of his eye as Jason sagged in their grip. They started pulling him out of the net as the agent walked up to him holding the collar.
“Phantom,” they greeted. “I see that we finally got the better of you. How’s it feel knowing that us ‘basement dwellers’ managed to best you?”
Danny snapped his teeth at the agent’s fingers. They laughed vaguely, grabbing him by his jaw.
“Don’t play with me, little ghost,” the voice was enough to send chills down his spine, “I control you. I control your life here. We have another subject; I’m sure the queen wouldn’t mind if there was a little accident with one of you that left you full ghost.”
They leaned in further. “And it wouldn’t be you. No, that’d be too easy; it’d be your little friend over there, struggling with his powers. And don’t think I haven’t picked up the resemblance,” they whispered in his ear. “I know you two are family of some sort.”
Danny froze. The agent chuckled. “That’s what I thought,” they muttered, low enough that only he could hear them. They secured the collar quickly.
“Alright, boys,” Agent J said. “The queen wants us to report to her before all of our experiments; we can’t touch them further until we get approval.” Danny could hear the eye roll as they turned towards the door. “We’ll have to comply. Oh,” they looked over their shoulder, smirking as the agent holding Danny’s net dumped him out next to Jason on the floor. “And we had to shove Phantom’s head into the counter to get his collar on. He was being quite belligerent today,” they said.
The agent had him by the head before he could register the words, slamming his head hard into the counter. He yelped as the agents laughed brightly. They left, talking amongst themselves.
He held his head a few minutes before pulling his fingers away. They were slicked with green.
He heard Jason groan and turned, finding him sitting up. “Shit,” he muttered as he made his way over.
“Phantom,” he muttered, “You’re bleeding. Let me take a look-”
“We use codenames alone?” he asked.
Jason leveled him with an unimpressed look. “Phantom, we’re in a random ass room that we haven’t checked for bugs or cameras yet. We assume they have them until we clear the room,” he said lowly.
He nodded, then got an idea.
Apologetic-Guilty-Reassurance-Understanding
Jason jumped. “I forgot we could do that,” he muttered. Then-
Surprise-Scared-Determined
Danny smiled at him. “See, Rob, isn’t that so much better? We don’t have to worry about getting overheard.”
Jason smiled back. Reassurance-Okay-Determined
He took him by the head. “Water?” He asked lowly.
He tried to stick a hand in his chest, but when he went to go intangible to do it, the collar shocked him.
Pain-Surprise-Hindered
He pushed out the emotions before he could think about what he was doing.
Alarm-Surprise-Concerned
“I’m okay,” he wheezed. “Stupid collar. I can’t get the water,” he said. “It’ll be fine,” he continued. “It’s your hand we need to worry about.”
Jason looked over to his hand. It was still mangled. “What about it?” he asked.
“That’s going to heal in about, oh, 5, maybe 6 hours. If it heals like that, it’s gonna be a bitch to deal with,” he said.
Jason winced. “Yeah, sounds like it,” he said.
He pulled his hand up close to his chest, beginning to use his other hand to ghost over the bruised flesh.
“Here, Robin, let me-”
Before he could finish his sentence, the other boy had pushed his pointer finger’s joint back into its socket. Jason inhaled sharply before letting it out, moving the finger slightly to make sure it was in its proper place.
Danny looked at him, stunned. “Dude-” he breathed.
“Shut it,” Jason responded. Pain-Determined-Stubborn
Danny raised an eyebrow and glared. Stupidity-Disbelief-Impressed
Jason looked at him, smirking a bit. He set another finger. Pain-Determined-Smug
Danny shook his head. Jason breathed through his first aid.
It wasn’t like this wasn’t anything Danny himself hadn’t done before. He’d, arguably, done worse; he had to set his leg by himself one time. That sucked. It sucked even more when they had to re-break it because he didn’t do it right.
After Jason was done checking and setting the bones and joints in his hand (Danny tried not to shudder in sympathy thinking about it), they searched the room. Danny had checked his pouches, but none of the medical supplies Jason had looted from the van had ended up in them.
They eventually found a half-assed med kit in one of the cupboards. The closest thing to finger splints they had was popsicle sticks and tape, but they were better than nothing.
As much as Jason had tried to do that part alone, Danny didn’t let him. Almost every finger was broken; Danny splint them together using the sticks, then wrapped it all in medical tape. He did it as tight as he could get it, and considering Jason hadn’t stopped him, he assumed he was doing something right.
Getting past the fingers, they weren’t sure what to do about the bones in his hand; eventually, they settled on wrapping it and his wrist tightly with an ace bandage and putting the wrist brace in the kit on carefully over the whole thing.
Having finished with Jason’s hand, he went on to treat the cut on Danny’s head. He tried to tell him it wasn’t necessary, but a few seconds of Disapproval-Disappointment-Determined and he folded like a deck of cards. Robin instructed him to soak a cotton ball in a bit of rubbing alcohol, which he gently grabbed from him and used to clean the cut. He didn’t let him waste a bandage to put on a cut that was going to be gone in 20 minutes, but he could admit it was probably smarter to clean the wounds before they could get infected.
He still didn’t know if they could get infections to begin with. He assumed so; but it’s not like he’d ever actively tried. It just never happened to him.
It was somewhat calming tending to each other’s wounds. It was... kind of nice, having someone to check over as intently as they checked him. It was nice knowing that he wasn’t alone for once.
Yeah, he had Tucker and Sam, and yeah, sometimes they got a scrape or a bruise. And while he still looked those over, cleaning them methodically and placing bandages over them, they weren’t... he wasn’t setting their bones. He wasn’t wrapping gauze and bandages over their torsos.
It was kind of nice having someone else with a serious injury to look after. He always felt like such a burden being the only one.
“Hey, pull your shirt down for me,” Jason muttered.
“What?” Danny asked.
“I dressed your chest and back wounds earlier,” he clarified. “I want to check on them since we were thrown around a bit.”
Danny blinked. “You dressed my wounds while I was unconscious?”
Embarrassment-Flustered-Indignity
“You were unconscious. I wanted to make sure you weren’t gonna stay that way!” He hissed.
Danny snorted, despite the situation. “Fine,” he started peeling off the first half of the suit.
It stuck to skin about halfway through. Jason helped him as best as he could with one hand, unsticking the suit from the wound.
The patch jobs were gone, which caused Jason to tut. Danny shrugged; he didn’t know why, if you transformed with gauze in ghost form, they’d stay going human, but it didn’t do it the other way around. He assumed it had something to do with the clothing thing.
Jason wrapped him up again, even as he actively bled through. It took a few layers, but eventually they stayed white instead of going green in some spots.
Danny stared at him. Grateful-Satisfaction-Appreciation
Jason paused, smiling a little. “Thank you,” he said softly.
Danny looked at him. Parts of his body glowed faintly green all the time, but it was the radioactive green of the pits. The J on his cheek was the brightest, drawing your attention in. He shuddered thinking about it.
His white hair was fluffy, defying gravity just like his own. The only difference was the small patch of jet black in the front of his head.
He thought back to Sam gossiping at the lunch table. It really wasn’t that long ago that the news dropped about poor little Jason Todd, beaten half to death by the Joker. Danny wasn’t sure if it was comforting that it was Robin that the Joker beat, or not.
He was suddenly extremely grateful that none of the gory details had ever been made public.
Jason looked up at him. “Do I have something on my face?” he asked as he finished securing the bandages around Danny’s chest and back.
“What?”
He laughed lightly, pulling his hand away from his work. “You just, you’re kinda staring a bit,” he said.
Danny flushed green. “Sorry!” He squeaked. “It’s just... man, I can’t believe we were twins the whole time. My friends back home are gonna freak.
“I get it,” he said, dusting off his hand as best as he could. “My family didn’t really have time to react, but my grandfather figure looked like he was going to pass out,” he said.
They kept their voices down as they chatted and laughed quietly, describing their friends and-
“Man, my sister’s the best,” he said. “I’m not about to say her name, obviously, but she’s just... she’s great. She’s always been there for me, no matter what stupid thing I was getting myself into that time,” he smiled lightly. “I’ve missed her these last few days.”
Jason nodded. “You really only got found out a few days ago, huh?”
Danny’s smile turned sad. Melancholy-Nostalgic-Pining
Jason winced. “Sorry-”
“No, no,” Danny said, trying to be reassuring. “It’s just... yeah, it was only a few days ago,” he said. “I still don’t know how they figured it out,” his voice was a bit lower than it had been the whole time they chatted.
Jason was quiet for a moment. “I-”
The door swung open. Jason closed his mouth with a faint click! as the agent walked in with an air of superiority.
Her goggles were pulled up, pinning her hair back and out of her face like a head band. She had a scar that ran from somewhere in her hairline down her face, going through her right eye and ending on the underside of her jaw. She had a grin on her face.
“I see you maggots found the medical supplies,” she said dryly.
She grabbed the box. “You’re lucky the madame asked us to bandage you, anyways,” she hissed. “Otherwise... well.”
Danny saw something in her pocket glint in the light. Danger-Behave-Worry
Jason tried not to look at him, Reassurance-Understanding-Calm
She looked between them a moment. “You things truly are a marvel,” she muttered. She put the box up on the counter and grabbed each of their jaws, pulling them until they were side by side. She was grinning. “Just think of what we’ll be able to do if we can find out how to do this for ourselves,” she said, awed. “We could send a few into that hellscape the doctors’ opened up.”
Danny tried to keep calm, attempting not to send his overwhelming fear over to Jason.
He could feel Jason’s Questioning-Confusion-Concern .
She looked between them for a moment. “I will take pictures of your patch jobs here and note down that you were inteligent enough to do it on your own,” she said, dropping Jason’s jaw to fish out a camera. “I’ll be back in an hour to take notes. Although...” she faked contemplating something for just a moment. “Madame did say she wanted to see how your wounds healed from start to finish,” she said. She looked at Danny. “Oh well. Guess I’m just going to have to show her,” she pulled the silver thing Danny had seen in her pocket out.
She flipped open the knife, trailing it against his face. He tried not to flinch back.
Anger-Impulse-Determined
Reassurance-Scolding-Still
He glared at Jason a moment, who was about to intervene. He subtly shook his head. The other boy scowled.
The agent mumbled something under her breath before she dug the knife’s tip into his cheek and ripped it open. She smiled a bit, bringing her camera up and taking a picture of the oozing green thing.
Jason stared the entire time. Danny kept up the wave of Reassurance-Scolding-Still until she finally went to grab the med kit, cleaning the wound before she placed a bandage on it. She kept complaining that if it were up to her, she wouldn’t waste supplies, but, “The madame wants, so she shall have”.
She took pictures of her patch job. She pulled down Danny’s suit again, taking pictures of the bandages there. She photographed his scars.
“Give me your hand,” she said as she turned to Jason.
“No.”
Her eyes narrowed. “Hand, now.”
“I’m not a fucking dog,” his voice was dangerous.
Alarm-Unease-Concern
Jason barely looked at Danny. The agent stood in front of him for just a moment longer.
“I remember you,” she said. “The little thing parading around as a hero that threw flaming bottles at my vans,” she grabbed a fistful of his hair and dragged him up to her level, “You’re already caught, dog. You’re already shoved in a fucking crate-”
Jason drove his knee into her stomach.
Danny had almost forgotten that being Robin meant he had training from the bat. He actually managed to get the upper hand for a moment, and despite knowing they were in danger for it, he couldn’t help but feel... impressed.
He couldn’t help it as he watched him fight. Impressed-Inspired-Defensive was all he could send out.
He knew it wouldn’t last as the shock wave coursed through him. Following his twin’s footsteps, he tried not to cry out. He had a feeling they would’ve accused them of faking it anyways.
How did they know to use pain to control them if they thought they couldn’t feel it?
He convulsed a bit and he vaguely registered Jason doing the same as the collars lit up. The agent got back up, grabbing Jason by the hair once more. “What part of you’ve been caught,” she hissed, dragging him over to the counter, “Don’t you fucking understand, dog?”
She slammed the back of his head on the edge, over and over. Lazarus green blood spilled from the wound it created.
Danny kept quiet. It’s not that he didn’t want to get involved. He knew if he did, he would make Jason’s punishment that much worse.
That was how this facility ran. Any of them, really. The threat from earlier buzzed in his ears.
“I’m sure the queen wouldn’t mind if there was a little accident with one of you that left you full ghost.”
He probably should’ve let Jason know. He tried, through the link, but that’s not really what that was for. It was more for vague emotions and messages. It wasn’t exactly as refined as to send out a message of “these people are fucking crazy and want to murder you dead dead”.
He settled for Danger-Alarm-Warn as Jason tried to wrap a hand around the agent’s wrist.
“Careful, ghost,” she whispered. “There are far worse experiments to be a part of,” she said, leaning in close.
That led them both into a loop of Scared-Alarm-Danger.
She looked at them for a moment before throwing Jason down and kicking his injured hand. She picked up her camera, checking it over. She hummed before grabbing Jason’s hair once more, positioning his head for a good angle and snapping a photo. She roughly grabbed his arm, lifting it up before grabbing his hand and jostling it for a second, causing the boy to hiss through his teeth.
“Oh, don’t try for sympathy points now,” she said as she gripped his hand tighter. “We’re long past that, mutt.”
She laughed. She fucking laughed. She gripped his wrist tightly and took the pictures she wanted.
She looked at them for a moment before going on her knees. As soon as he was released from her bruising grip, Jason scooted back towards Phantom. She laughed before snapping a photo.
She left the room, promising to be back in an hour, and left them with one final message;
“And you’d better not dress his head wound or I swear to God and the heavens above, I will make you feel actual pain.”
The door closed harshly behind her. Danny immediately started looking over the wound on Jason’s head.
“Dude,” he said, “I need to-”
“Why didn’t you let me do anything?”
Danny paused and checked the link. Now that she was gone, Angry-Tired-Overwhelm was all that was on Jason’s side of the link.
“Robin, I-”
“I could’ve done something. We could've done something!” He insisted.
Danny pursed his lips. “Do you really think this place is bugged?”
He heard Jason hiss as he prodded at his wound. “She seemed surprised we were patching each other up, so maybe, maybe not? We’d have to check,” he said, slightly out of breath by the end. Danny nodded.
“Phantom? What are you not telling me?”
Danny inhaled slightly. “Look, Rob, I just. I don’t want to say anything unless they can’t overhear it,” he said. “Otherwise, they’ll have another thing against us. We need all the cards we can get,” he whispered. “And for fuck’s sake, stop mouthing off! I know, it’s tempting, but please resist,” he said. He tried to wipe away green blood from the wound on Jason’s head to no avail. “For me?” he added.
Jason was silent. “Okay,” he said eventually. “But for the record-” he winced, “This sucks.”
Danny snorted. “You got your head beat into a countertop. I’ll bet it sucks,” he said.
Jason snorted back. “How’s the cut on your cheek?”
“Stings. That’s weird, it usually goes away by now,” he said, touching his fingers lightly to his bandage.
Jason turned around, looking at him. “You’ve already bled through it,” he muttered.
Danny shrugged. “I dunno why. Let's check for bugs or whatever, yeah?”
The other boy nodded and started with the underside of the counter.
The room was bare, all white with bright, florescent lighting. The cabinets underneath the counter held various equipment, none of which (according to Jason) held any sort of audio recording devices. The top cabinets, where they found the med kit, held some cotton balls and several vials of unmarked substances. Danny didn’t know a lot about this sort of thing; He’d never gotten kidnapped by a rogue intending on torturing him... in this context at least. He had a healthy amount of fear in it.
As far as either boy could tell, there were no bugs or cameras. They did decide to stick to code names, but they were a bit looser with what they were willing to say.
Danny told him of Agent J’s threat.
He was quiet. “I think it’s an intimidation tactic,” he said slowly. “If it were actually true, they would’ve already gotten rid of you.”
Danny looked at him, startled. “They want to observe halfa’s right now, right? Why wouldn’t they get rid of the weaker one? Not that you’re weak!” he backtracked.
Jason waved him off. “Because I’m easier to control. It’s pretty obvious I’m still developing,” he said, green slightly flushing his cheeks, “And it’d be a perfect opportunity to observe what any future replicates would go through in terms of power development and things.”
He nodded, “Makes sense. But I don’t want to risk it anyways,” he looked Jason in the face, “I don’t want to lose you. I just met you, and I like having you around,” he joked.
“Yeah,” Jason agreed, “We should keep that in the back of our minds. These people don’t seem like the type to make a threat just to make a threat. We need to bide our time, be on our best behavior, see how things run,” he cut himself off with a yawn.
Danny yawned after. They both looked at each other. They giggled.
“Sleep first?”
Jason nodded. “Sleep first.”
Danny scooted closer to Jason, who’d started messing with the latch on his cape. He helped him take it off and spread it across them evenly, being careful not to hit his hand during the process.
He lay Jason down on his chest as he used his own arm as a pillow.
It wasn’t exactly the most comfortable , but what were they going to do? It’s not like Danny had any energy drinks on him, and he was exhausted. He could imagine Jason felt a similar way.
Jason dropped off first. His emotions evened out to nothing and, although he didn’t breathe while he was asleep, he looked more at peace.
Danny followed soon after as he stroked down Jason’s arm, attempting to soothe them both into a fitful sleep.
Being cuddled up against someone somewhat familiar after days of being pressed up against complete strangers was... nice. It soothed something in his core in a way that only Jazz had managed to do before. He suspected it was the familial bond thing; they may not have known each other most of their lives, but they were together now. In a way, wasn’t that what mattered?
He just... had to believe they’d make it out of here. Jason was Robin; of course, Batman would go to hell and back for any of his birds. That’s what he was known for online (and what made Danny convinced the whole Gotham vigilante clan was a myth). They just needed some time. They’d come.
They wouldn’t be coming for him, but it didn’t matter. Tucker and Sam would notice he was missing, and they’d probably think to search the GIW labs they’ve been tracking all over the country. They’d... they wouldn’t forget about him just because he wasn’t right there. They loved him. Jazz did, too, she wouldn’t let their parents’ disdain for ghosts and ecto-contaminated beings infect her love for her baby brother. He hoped.
There was once a time he’d had an unshakable belief his parents loved him. Even as Phantom, he thought they might disown him and kick him out. He never thought that, if they thought he was Phantom, that they’d...
He still remembered what the bat felt like against his head. How he felt, not only physically, but emotionally when it happened. He forced himself to stop thinking about it; Jason was right next to him, and he was asleep, plus they never found a trash can while searching the room. If he was going to be sick, it was going to be on the floor and only the ancients knew if they would clean it up, or if they’d get... creative.
He hoped they would never get creative.
Sitting there thinking was absolutely boring. It was like watching paint dry, but he’d rather be bored than wake Jason; the poor boy needed this.
He shifted slightly. He thought about the agents and something in his core flared. That was when something strange happened.
He felt it get soothed. It was like something minty cool had been rubbed on his core, and usually that would make him squirm but now it just... relaxed him. He shifted again, closer to Jason. He messed with the cape to cover them a bit better before closing his eyes again.
He drifted off to sleep with a lullaby playing in his core.
He should definitely ask Frostbite more about family bonds as ghosts when he gets back.
It was peaceful for all of 15 minutes when the door opened with a bang, startling them both.
“Rise and shine, ghosties,” the agent from before said, taking in the scene quickly. Jason startled and tried to use his injured hand to prop himself up, leaving him hissing in pain. The agent rolled her eyes.
“Well, dog,” she said, “Looks like you did a good job at not licking your wounds,” she grabbed his hand roughly, as she did before. Something in the action sparked anger somewhere in Danny and, disorientated, he... may have misjudged the situation.
“The only bitch I see here is you,” he mumbled, then caught himself.
The words didn’t make her mad, no. Instead, she looked delighted.
She took out a button from her coat pocket and pressed it.
“This must be what she did earlier,” he thought to himself before searing pain overtook their bodies.
Like before, it was electrifying and it was painful. Attempting to think of something better to distract himself and not make noise, he focused on the emotional connection with Jason.
Reassurance-Calm-Sorry
He thought of how awesome it would be once he got to introduce Jason to Ellie. The clone hadn’t been around much, too busy on her world tour and harassing some couple she met in Kansas and their son that visited sporadically, but she was still family. She and him were enough like siblings that they could-
He would’ve frozen in realization if it weren’t for the convulsing caused by the collar. He found the connection he had with Ellie and yanked, attempting to send out the signal.
Help-Danger-Alarm
Jason looked at him oddly as they came down from the shock waves. Danny shook his head slightly. “Not now,” he mouthed when the agent looked away for a moment.
“Honestly,” she began, “You things really can’t have the intelligence to bandage your own wounds and not know that you’d be punished for not holding your tongue.”
Danny fought the urge to mouth off more. He probably would’ve if she didn’t just prove she’d punish Jason for his doings if they weren’t careful.
“That tells me a lot, you know,” she continued. She pulled out her camera, taking pictures of the closing wounds on Danny’s face. The bruise from Jack remained stubborn, but everything else had started to heal somewhat.
She mumbled to herself as she took the photos. She didn’t bother replacing a lot of his bandages.
When she moved on to Jason, she was a lot rougher with him than she was with Danny. She dragged him by his hair so she could take pictures of the head wound she’d left earlier and yanked on his injured hand.
She had hovered on his head wound a little longer than they felt comfortable with. They were just waiting for it; for her to accuse them of treating the gaping thing, of cleaning it or something. All Danny did was wipe away the blood a bit and make sure it wasn’t too deep of an impact wound; that counter was sharp.
Something whispered in Danny that it was meant to be like that; sharp counters produced more damage, he bet.
She didn’t accuse them of anything. She threw Jason down and told them to clean it up.
“I can’t get clear pictures without all that matted hair in the way,” she snapped.
She promptly left without much more fanfare. They’d looked at each other.
“That was so suspicious, right?” Jason asked quietly.
“Ancients above, yes,” he replied. He stood up, still slightly disorientated from their impromptu nap and grabbed the med kit.
He sat back down on the floor. Jason leaned in. “What was that earlier?”
Danny looked at him and blinked once before remembering. “I have a clone,” he said casually.
Jason did a double take. “Say wha'?”
Danny rolled his eyes, making Jason scoot over so he could tilt his head back. “Technically, she’s my daughter, but she’s also my cousin and sometimes my sister- it's complicated,” he waved it off as though it were a bad smell, then began to clean the wound with some rubbing alcohol. “Anyways, the ghost thing decided we’re not-identical enough that we have an emotional thingy like we have. We forget about it a lot since it’s harder to activate when you’re super far apart like we are most of the time, but-”
“But it’s enough that you can hopefully send a distress signal,” he finished.
“Pretty much,” he said as he began to press gauze to the wound. He didn’t really have a way to secure it...
Jason exhaled, sensing the problem and taking some of the long bandages and wrapping his head, making sure to keep the gauze in place.
Danny vaguely wondered if he figured out he didn’t have to breathe in this form yet. He’d already decided unless it was immediately important, he wasn’t going to tell Jason, but he wondered if he should just blurt it out since the boy seems intent on doing it. Nah, he needs to figure that out on his own time. He would’ve just freaked out if someone had pointed it out to him.
Jason laughed a bit. “Uh, I’m still confused as to why you have a clone? But that’s great-”
Danny whispered into Jason’s ear in case someone was listening. “I have a creepy ass billionaire godfather intent on kidnapping me to make me his heir. He’s a halfa, like us, but he’s a frootloop. He made a bunch of clones. Ellie was the only viable one,” he explained.
Jason looked at him. “Wow, and out of us I thought I was going to be the one with the weird life.”
Danny laughed. “Man, not with my... what would you call them? Adoptive family?”
Jason grimaced. “It’s not like they chose to adopt you? The people that raised you?” he offered.
Danny shook his head, “Nah, that implies that my sister means nothing to me and she’s literally the only one keeping me from losing my shit half the time, so?”
“We’ll workshop it?”
They looked at one another before laughing a bit.
It wasn’t funny, but sometimes, you have to laugh, right? It’s better than crying at least.
“Okay, let’s figure this out,” Danny started. “Uh, obviously bio family is out.”
Jason snorted. “Duh, that would be blonde bitch and deadbeat asshole. What about... foster family?”
Danny shook his head. “See, again, implies they knew. What about...”
Before they knew it, their once-serious discussion had devolved into a fit of giggles. The door opened and all laughter stopped.
The same agent was standing there, now with a pipe. She was once again grinning. Agent J was standing behind her, ready with a notepad and pencil, camera hanging around their neck.
Even if he didn’t have the connection between them, Danny could tell Jason was terrified. He was doing a good job at pretending he wasn’t, but he had started picking up the small tells. The clenched fists, the set jaw. His biggest indicator was that he had stopped breathing.
He doubted he even noticed as the agent walked towards them slowly, dragging it across the floor. She turned towards Jason.
“It’s your lucky day, ghostie,” she said, brandishing the pipe. “We’ve already gotten approved for a new experiment!”
Fear-Betrayal-Panic
Danny thought back to what Jason had told him of what happened before they came here. As the agent raised the pipe, his body moved without his permission.
He might take the threat seriously, but that wouldn’t stop him from protecting his twin. Especially when that twin was already hurt.
The agent was already swinging when Phantom went in front of the other boy, taking the hit for him. It was Jason who whimpered as if he’d been struck.
“Phantom,” Agent J called out. “What is the meaning of this?”
He took a deep breath. “If you exhaust Robin now,” he began, “You won’t have both of us ready for more experiments. Robin is hurt worse than I am right now; his injuries could skew your results, anyways,” he said.
Agent J raised an eyebrow. “Very well,” they mumbled. “Agent V, switch subjects. And I am very disappointed that you did not see this oversite, yet the ectoscum detected it easily. I may have to bring that up with the department head,” they looked at the other Agent through their goggles.
Agent V looked at Phantom for a moment before lowering her own down. She got up close. “You’ll pay for that,” she hissed.
She raised the pipe again. This time, Danny did not move, taking the hits.
If this was an experiment, he needed to talk with the department head. What were the merits of beating the shit out of a 15-year-old boy?
He took it, out of options. It was either him or Jason; he was pretty sure he was having some sort of panic attack, curled up in a ball with his cape. He reacted like he was the one being struck over and over again. Danny could not muster up any annoyance, like some might have; he knew what it was like to feel the phantom pains of getting hit when you were completely fine.
When Agent V finally tire of bringing the pipe down on Danny’s body, she smiled, tucking it into the belt of her coat. She left without another word.
Agent J took pictures of his wounds. There was very little blood, but he could already feel parts of his body bruising and he was pretty sure some of them had become so tender they had split open. He had very few cuts, according to Agent J’s mumblings, but had several... abrasions? Over several parts of his body.
He was pretty sure that was a fancy word for scrape because that’s sure what those looked like to him.
Agent J grabbed the medical kit from where Danny had left it and tutted. “Did you two waste all these supplies or was it the incompetence of the staff?” they muttered, mostly to themselves. They left the room.
They came back with a better med kit and treated him. They kept jotting down notes as they did so.
Danny ignored them. They could do whatever they wanted.
He kept looking at Jason, who still had that faraway look in his eye.
What he went through just now? That sucked. Danny had a feeling if he’d let Jason go through it, it’d suck more.
He closed his eyes. They had to get out.
They were going to get out.

Runaway/ homeless Danny saves Eri (with or without his sisters)
Danny could only go near to her only in ghost mode
(cant bring the dead back to life but she may revert him to before he got his accident)
Danny honestly doesn't know how he ends up here.
He's been on the run from months. The Guys in White are relentless. As soon as they found about him, kicking the door down with way to much force, he went along with them to keep his family safe.
The look in his mother's eyes still haunts him. Her cries, her grip being broken by agents in white, as she's separated from her baby boy. It hurt both of them.
After a couple of new guards had been assigned to him, it wasn't hard to get out. Well, it was because he was held together with nothing but hasty stitches and luck, but overall, it wasn't the worst experience he's ever had.
And now they're after him.
He escaped nearly four months ago. He managed to get the inhibitor collar off, and therefore is fully healed, at least physically. He's spent all of his time running from one end of the country to another, trying the skies and the roads and even the seas. The only place where they can't follow, he's found, is the ground.
He usually hides out in small pockets that are just big enough for his lean frame, or the sewer system, but that's more open so he tries to avoid it. He travels with his flight and intangibility, and if he's in the sewers he uses his invisibility as well. It makes covering ground-literally-a hell of a lot easier.
Or, at least it was supposed to.
He's lucky he's invisible when he flies into this new place he's found himself in. It's not a sewer or compacted earth. It's an underground base, with tall ceilings and narrow halls, and if the purple bird guy is anything to go off of, it's also run by bad guys.
His metaphorical kryptonite, if you will.
Bad guys mean danger, and danger means he has to protect, but before he can do any of that he needs to figure out what the fuck they're even planning.
He follows the bird guy. He's quite prideful, and he talks about his plans openly to his direct underlings.
"The test was a success against Suneater," bird guy, Chisaki, is telling someone. "However, it seems as though the effects were only temporary. If we want to make any kind of change, we need to adjust the formula to make the quirklessness permanent."
"Do you want me to receive the girl for you?" Chisaki's assistant asks.
"No, her body is too exhausted to do anything. I'll have to continue my tests tomorrow. But do get her something to eat."
Danny's core hums in discontent. He's only gotten a few pieces of the puzzle, but he can't put them together quite yet. If there's a girl here that they're using for this permanent quirkless bullshit, he needs to find her.
He follows the assistant to the kitchen where he picks up a plate of something pretending to be food, and then to a large, locked door. Inside is dark, with nothing but a large bed, a million unopened toys, and a small, small girl, trembling in fear as the assistant comes in. She can't be older than five or six, and her arms and legs are covered in bandages.
I'll have to continue my tests tomorrow, Chisaki had said.
Danny understands what kind of tests they are.
The flash of metal. The burning just beneath his skin. The feeling of his skin being pried apart, and the way the tools poked and prodded at his muscles, his tendons, his core. He'll never forget the tink tink tink sound that Agent O's tweezers made as he poked Danny's core. The painful sensations going down his spine, so painful he couldn't even scream.
The door closing brings his attention back to the present. Right. Girl. Tests. Quirklessness. He has to get her out of here and get her somewhere safe.
He pokes his head back outside, and once he's sure nobody is coming back in, he pulls the rest of himself back in and takes a deep breath.
"Hi there," he whispers. The girl's head shoots up from the slop that was given to her, eyes wide and terrified. Danny drops his invisibility, and she scoots away from him.
"Hey, no, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. I just-I'm...A hero? I'm gonna get you out of here."
"You can't," the girl tells him. "No way out. Or they'll-they'll hurt the nice hero..."
"I promise I'll make sure the nice hero is safe, too. What's your name?"
"I'm...I'm Eri..."
"Eri. Such a pretty name. My name is Danny. And, look. I don't-I know what they're doing to you is wrong and scary. And I get it. Tests have been run on me, too."
"Really?" Eri asks, voice full of childlike innocence as well as the world weariness he's only ever heard from adults.
Danny doesn't want to freak her out, so he pulls his sleeve up to his elbow and shows her the bright pink surgical scar running from wrist to elbow instead of the autopsy scar on his chest. She puts her hands out, and gently touches the raised skin, before looking up at Danny with something that looks like hope.
Danny gently pulls away and pulls his sleeve back down.
"I can get us out. But if I'm gonna do that, I need you to be very, very quiet, okay? Can you do that for me?"
Eri nods, and with her permission, Danny gently scoops her up. He pressed a long finger to his lips, and she mirrors him as she nods her head.
"Okay, this is going to be a little cold, okay? Now, shut your eyes, and hold on tight."
Eri shuts her eyes and hugs Danny's neck, burring her face in his shoulder. He slowly, as to not startle her, turns them invisible and intangible before lifting them up through the ceiling, through the dirt, and into the fresh air. When he's high enough he looks down and makes a mental note of where they are before flying away.
"Okay, you can look now," Danny says when they're far enough away. Her face moves, and he hears a small gasp. He drops the intangibility as well, letting the warm night air flow through her hair. And though she's not smiling or laughing, she does relax more in his arms.
It's the middle of the night, so they probably won't notice her gone until the morning. He thought about taking her to the police, but he also just doesn't rust them. Not after they ignored complaint after complaint about the abuse he went through when he was quirkless. And he's not going to touch the Hero Commission as long as he lives.
But he does know one safe place. He had applied, but because of reasons he never had a chance to actually take the test to get in. It's full of heroes and hero students, and if anybody is going to take care of this girl it would be them.
It takes a little while to figure out exactly where he is, but when he does he's quick to change his course and head to the only safe place he knows.
U.A. High School.
When they get there the sun is just peaking over the horizon. He doesn't want to waste time or energy with whatever security system they've got going on, so he turns them both intangible once more. he flies over the gates, and through the halls of the school before he eventually finds what has to be the principal's office.
When they arrive, said principle's head shoots up. He sniffs the air a couple of times before offering Danny a sharp toothed grin.
"If you're going to sneak in here you're going to have to try a lot harder than that," Nezu says, eyes the general area of where Danny is.
"Sorry, sir," Danny says as he drops his invisibility and intangibility. "I wasn't trying to sneak. Well, I was but not-anyway, never mind. This is Eri," he says, bouncing the sleeping girl on his hip. "I found her waiting to be experimented on by the Yakuza."
The explanation takes a while. Danny is protective and hasn't let go of Eri, but Nezu doesn't seem to mind that at all. At one point another hero joins them, and then two hero students who are interning under the guy who's spearheading the operation against Chisaki and the quirkless bullets he's been trying to make.
"This is all well and good, and we're thankful that you've rescued her," the older, dark haired hero says. "But what exactly were you doing there anyway?"
"I was just looking for a place to crash when I came upon them."
"In their underground base," the hero bluntly states, face emotionless except for the single, raised eyebrow. "Why not crash at home?"
"It's not safe. Not for me, anyway. I've been running from the Guys in White for months, and that's the first place they'd think to look for me."
The organization doesn't ring a bell for this new hero, but the principal sits up a little straighter. The hair on his back rises, and the smile he had been sporting is gone completely.
It opens up another line of questioning from the principal, who apparently has some personal beef with the organization. At some point Danny tentatively gets up to show him the surgical scars they've given him, as well as the autopsy scar on his torso. The hero students are sent out before that, though.
Danny sits back down, careful not to jostle Eri too much, but she ends up waking up anyway.
She doesn't recognize him. At least, not at first. But the panic takes over before her brain can stop her, and her quirk activates. Her horn is glowing, and Danny is trying to calm her down. It's affecting him. He can feel his body changing, but he ignores it in his attempt to get Eri to calm down.
And then, after what could only be a few seconds, it stops abruptly. Eri falls forward, exhausted from her quirk, and crawls back into Danny's lap before falling asleep again. When Danny looks back up, he's met with the glowing red eyes of the older hero. And, well, it doesn't take much more than that for a fanboy like Danny to figure out who he is.
"What was that?" Eraserhead asks.
"I have no idea," Danny answers. "This is the first time I've seen her use it. I feel...Better though. Not brand new, but not as tired as I've been lately."
"I have a theory," Nezu says, clapping his hands to get Danny's attention. "Danny, if you would please show us your chest scar once more?"
Danny once again gently puts Eri down on the couch before standing up and lifting his shirt.
"How fascinating," Nezu says. Danny quirks a brow, before looking down himself.
He's still got all of his ghost hunting scars. The burn from Skulker and the stab wounds from Technus, but the newest addition to his chest is gone. No more autopsy scar, as if it had never happened. Danny checks his arm, a little sad to see that that surgical scar is still there, but relieved altogether to find that he doesn't have to be reminded of what happened to him every time he looks in the mirror.
He pats his face, too. It feels less angular than it had been a few minutes ago. He hasn't been able to eat properly since being on the run, and he was only fed granola bars while under the custody of the GiW. But this, this saves him months of physical recovery. He's almost back to a healthy weight.
"It appears to not be a quirkless quirk, necessarily," Nezu says, "but some sort of rewind quirk. How interesting." Nezu turns to Eraserhead. "I'll contact Sir Nighteye. Please escort these two to Recovery Girl and have Lunch Rush make them something warm and hearty."
For the first time in months, as Eraserhead leads them both down the labyrinth of U.A., Danny allows himself to relax.
He knows, somewhere deep down that as long as he's under their care, he and Eri will be okay.
