A post about Hanene

These days I found some people talking about Hanene on the internet and how there are some who don't like this ship. It wasn't because they considered the novel poorly done, no, it was because they didn't like the way Yashiro treats Hanako.

I found it super interesting to read most of the reports, each with their own opinions and revolts against Yashiro and let's face it, most people like Hanene precisely because Hanako is the one who often goes after Nene.

What I noticed was that people weren't understanding the dynamics of their relationship. Let's remember that Yashiro was initially never interested in Hanako. She says this all the time.

"he's not my type"

What happens is that Hanako simply ignores her and does what he wants. Yashiro goes after him to make a request, she wanted a boyfriend, she wanted Teru, but Hanako didn't give her that.

He used dubious methods to make her try to win him over, but nothing too serious and we knew it wouldn't work. So they create a bond because Yashiro is naive and thought that "magic item" would make her wish come true. (naive and stubborn because Hanako said she wasn't supposed to swallow)

So she was stuck with Hanako against her will. Repeating, against her will. Or do you think she likes turning into a fish, or having to clean bathrooms every day?

She always asks Hanako for help because after she made that connection with him, she could see supernatural things and how these things put not only her but also her friends in danger. Yashiro doesn't know anything about the supernatural world so who would help her? Hanako, of course.

Then we see her saying that Hanako harasses her, and that's true. He takes on he has touched her several times without her consent. He always hugs her, squeezing her whenever he gets the chance, and gives her a kiss on the cheek too.

He flirts with her aggressively all the time XD but she has no interest in him. He's the one who insists!

Then we have this remarkable passage, the day of confession. Yashiro starts to suspect that Hanako likes her, she talks to Aoi about it and makes it clear again that he's not her type but she would be excited if he was her first boyfriend, not because she likes him, but because she wants a boyfriend! XD

This has been shouting since the beginning of the story, Hanako himself says that she would be with any guy, why would Amane be any different?

Do you understand what I'm talking about?

So she believes that he likes her, and when she finds out that the confession was false, she cries, but she doesn't cry because she likes him.

When I saw this scene for the first time (in the anime) I thought "Wow, poor thing, she was already rejected by the cute boys she liked, and now she's even rejected by the boy who isn't her type"

And that's exactly what happened. She talks about this in her monologue before breaking down into tears. Then she shocks Hanako, who has a crush on Nene, he understands that she wanted it to be real because she likes him.

So when he hugs her she is surprised too. And it is from here that she becomes interested for the first time in knowing about his past.

When she finds out a little about him, she fears and retreats, but Kou helps her not to give up on Hanako.

So her confession, she says she likes him and he interprets it in a romantic way, EVEN she saying right after that he was like a friend. Hanako is very emotional, so he fell in love with Yashiro first .

So when did Yashiro start liking Hanako?

I believe that after the confession tree she started to look at Hanako differently, she became interested in his past and even found him attractive when he took off his hat for the first time. Little by little Yashiro began to admire him at specific moments, but very slowly.

She constantly denies that she likes Hanako because she already got dumped by him in the confession tree and continues to show interest in cute boys because Hanako REJECTED HER XD

So she can hardly believe that the things he does are because he likes her, so she apparently takes it all in stride. She's had it in her head for so long that even when they actually went to kiss, she believed for a moment that she had been tricked again because Amane didn't want to tell her how he felt about her.

Yashiro didn't fall in love sooner because she was afraid of being rejected again. Because Hanako doesn't tell her how he feels. Even though he flirts with her or they act like a couple, she has a hard time believing it because he was already doing this before the confession tree.

Yashiro denies that she likes him until the day of their separation, when she actually realizes how painful it was for her to have Hanako away from her. So she does everything to go after him and bring him back. (Let's consider that she was also angry with him because for the second time he decided to save Yashiro his way without consulting her, in addition to other factors that I don't think need to add here because you should already know)

She stopped denying that she likes him. (although in previous moments she gave Hanako the opportunity to kiss her, but he didn't kiss her in any of those moments because he was holding back)

"Holding back" this is what Hanako does very often. He flirts with her a lot, but when things get more serious he runs away. He doesn't kiss her when he has the opportunity (even though he wants to) because he didn't want it to get so serious.

You know, that same conversation as always, he's dead, he's an evil ghost, he's a murderer, he can't grow up, he can't live alongside Yashiro, a cloudy past that he doesn't want to tell, etc, etc.

So they would have been together a long time if it weren't for him being so slippery. He provokes, but does not assume. So Yashiro has doubts

And let's face it, she likes to make Hanako jealous, she likes to brag to him when a boy talks to her, or she likes to make it clear to him that she's going out or doing something with another boy, or admiring Teru in front of him because Hanako can't hide his jealousy.

Yashiro doesn't care about Teru after Hanako disappears. She talks about it. She was so sad about being without her best friend and without Hanako that the entire time she was by Teru's side she didn't care.

But what did she think at the time?

and Hanako would say:

She wants to make him jealous.

So there is this duality between them. Yashiro is in love with him now, but she still doesn't feel the same love that Hanako feels for her because he fell in love first (and because he's pretty needy)

Then Tsukasa appeared and threw everything into the air XD

Yashiro is waiting for a confession from Hanako, so when they actually become a couple, I imagine Yashiro won't be fawning over other boys anymore. (Maybe)

She still likes the idea of having several boys being romantically interested in her, after all she has always been rejected by all of them. It's like she feels like she's worth something to the boys now.

She talks all the time about how she wanted slimmer legs, how she wanted to have bigger breasts, all so that boys would be attracted to her. And the boy who likes her the way she is simply doesn't say he likes her XD

He only said once

But most of the time he talks about her legs or makes fun of her when he can. Yashiro dreams of a prince because he will say nice things to her, that's not what Hanako does.

It's like one is punishing the other all the time "if you don't say you like me I'll be interested in other boys" while Hanako is like "I'll flirt with you a lot but I won't assume that I'm in love and I don't want anything Seriously, I'm going to make fun of you like the other boys because I'm ashamed to admit how I feel"

Did you understand? XD

That's the dynamic of their relationship, Yashiro is still developing and so is Hanako. She said she's going to confess to him, and I'm interested to know what his response will be.

And finally (because I thought this post would be shorter) I hope Yashiro stops fawning over Teru, as he is Hanako's main enemy who has already tried to exorcise him several times (and for thousands of other reasons that I won't mention here ) it would be more prudent for her to stay away from him. I hope she stops being so easily enchanted by other boys when (if) they officially become a couple.

Do you think Kakashi could end up with someone younger than him..? Im so sad kishimoto didn’t give him someone im sure a lot of fans wanted to see him have a child and a family to call his own, I just want Kakashi to be happy, I mean you could call him happy now that he’s retired, I hope you understand what I mean

If we're talking about canon Kakashi then I don't think it has anything to do with age although I don't think he would be with someone who's a lot younger than him, like a few years would be fine but not a huge age gap imo as much as it has to do with Kakashi's interest in romance itself, I mean, we all know how much he LOVES reading his romance novels and smut, there's also the fact that Kishimoto described Kakashi in the databook of being "surprisingly domestic and would protect his partner with love" but we've never seen him in canon showing any interest in actually being in a romantic relationship and even the only time ever he had a crush on someone or showed any attraction to someone in canon, he totally discarded that attraction and focused on his job, this is why I've never felt that Kakashi being attracted to Kahyo was ooc because yeah, he had a crush on her but he didn't act up on it or even showed it in anyway and if we as readers didn't get the privilege of reading the thoughts inside Kakashi's head, we would have never known he was attracted to her at all and that's like, the most Kakashi thing ever!.. and I always remember that Kishimoto interview I've watched ages ago when he said that he originally planned on giving Kakashi a wife but things were a bit rushed out at the end of the story and there was no time for him to introduce a new character since he didn't think any of the existing characters would suit Kakashi and he wanted to create a new character to be Kakashi's wife but for someone like Kakashi, it wouldn't make sense for her to appear out of nowhere, their love story had to be written and introduced properly and take it's time so at the end, it felt more right to him to keep Kakashi single than rushing him into a relationship. So if there's anything we can take from all of this is that the possibility of Kakashi falling in love or being in a relationship is there but it would not be easy and it would take a lot of time and work for it to happen, because Kakashi always puts everyone else above his own needs. The village, his students, his friends always comes first so he doesn't even give himself enough time to think about himself or what he wants or what he needs at all, there's always the emotional baggage he's carrying on his shoulders all the time and the way he always thinks that he doesn't deserve to be admired, I feel like he would always feel like they deserve better than him and might try to push them away thinking that it's for their own good because they deserve better than me so yeah, the possibility is there but he would NEVER make it easy and it would take a lot of time for him to accept being in a relationship.

summer love || Eddie Munson

a/n: i am thinking about writing a few blurbs for this story like when Eddie realized he liked her and also maybe some memories from when they were young like when they first met. so let me know if you want those or if you have any other ideas.

summary : y/n hasnt returned to Hawkins since she was fourteen and on her first day back she bumps into her old childhood bestfriend who she hasnt spoken to or seen in years. They are having an amazing time until he asks one question. why didnt she return? warnings : fluff and some angst

Summer was your favorite time of year, cherishing the warm weather, the much needed break from school and being able to hangout with your friends whenever. But this summer was different. You had to visit your mom in Hawkins, Indiana and spend your summer there. The journey to Hawkins, Indiana, felt like a step into the past. The memories of those childhood visits were hazy, a blend of long-forgotten adventures and fleeting moments with your mom.

The small town welcomed you with friendly faces. Yet, you couldn't shake the feeling of being almost a complete stranger here. The memories were distant, and much had changed since your last visit at the age of fourteen.

The first day was as fun as it could be in the small town where you arrived at forest hills trailer park. Your mom greeted you warmly, but quickly headed off to work, So you opted to explore your surroundings. You set out to revisit the old places that had once been your havens of adventure and wonder. The book store.

The bell tinkled gently as you entered the bookshop. The scent of aged paper and ink filled the air creating an inviting atmosphere that seemed to embrace every visitor. You made your way past rows of neatly arranged shelves. You began to read the titles of the romance novels running your fingers along the spines, drawn to the promise of captivating love stories.

A shiver ran down your spine as you continued to scan the titles in the romance section. The feeling of being watched hung heavy in the air, and you couldn't shake the sensation that someone's eyes were fixed on you. Your heart quickened its pace, and you discreetly glanced around, trying to identify the source of your unease.

When your eyes met another.Your eyes locked across the bookshop, his gaze intense. He stood amidst the fantasy section.A strange sense of familiarity washed over you, a feeling that you had encountered before, though you couldn't place when or where. His face held a familiarity that teased at the edges of my memory, like a half-remembered dream.

You broke eye contact and drew your attention back onto the book in your hands. Walking over to the cashier paying and walking straight out. As you were walking out you heard your name being called, turning around you saw him again. The guy in the bookstore.

“y/n” he said but it sounded more like a question almost as if he was unsure. “Yeah” I replied back, sounding just as unsure as he did. “Woah uh you look different… you look good not that you didn't look good before but i just haven't seen you in like so many years i wasn't sure if it was actually you but you are and wow” the boy rambled on rather fast, not even stopping for air.

His features slowly came into focus, and a rush of memories flooded back.

‘’ Eddie?’’ you screamed as you launched yourself into his arms and he hugged you back tightly.“You look so different, how have you been?” “Well you know, I could be better still stuck here, redoing senior year for the third time but other than that im just peachy’’ he said with a genuine laugh you smiled back at him. “Well third times the charm” you laugh. At that moment, you felt as happy as ever, grateful for this unexpected reunion.

It was a joyous moment, filled with laughter, as we strolled back to the trailer park, eagerly sharing stories and catching up on the last few years. you noticed a hint of disappointment flicker across his face every time you brought up a funny memory from your childhood. you did your best to brush it off, sensing there might be something more beneath the surface.

We sat down on my front porch and you looked over at him before he spoke. “Can i ask you a question y/n” you nodded your head.

“Why didn't you come back ? you told me you were coming back and that you would be here for the summer again, you came to hawkins every summer and then one day you just didn't show up. I waited for you at the bus stop and I wrote to you… but I never got a reply.”

The question you had been dreading finally surfaced. you looked up at him with a sad smile and let out a shaky sigh. " I didn't want to be your friend anymore. I only came here every summer to visit you, my mom didn't care if i was here or not though she most likely would of enjoyed it more if i had just stayed at my dads. We had been friends since we were six years old and i started to feel different okay?’’

1980 flashback

Today was Eddie's fourteenth birthday. You spent all morning making him the perfect chocolate cake that you knew he was going to absolutely devour in five minutes. You had spent all weekend trying to find the perfect gift for him and settled on the Lord of the Rings books which he had been talking about wanting forever. You put on your nicest sundress, curled your hair slightly and even did some basic makeup. You weren't sure what these new feelings were. Why did you all of a sudden feel the need to look your best infront of him? You shoved those feelings down and headed over to his trailer. Gift bag in one hand and cake in the other.

“Eddie” you screamed excitedly as the boy rushed out of the trailer to help you inside.

You placed the cake on the table and put his gift bag in front of him.you started singing happy birthday to him and he flushed red hugging you tightly.He was already eyeing the cake and bouncing with excitement. “You can open your gift first or we can eat cake first it's up to you birthday boy” you said to him

‘’ I can multitask, how about we do both” he replied, overjoyed, grabbing plates and digging into the cake. Then grabbing his gift bag and opening it.you watched as he looked at the books with nothing but happiness.

He jumped up from his chair and gave you a bone crushing hug lifting you from your chair.

“Eddie, I need air please’’ you said , hardly breathing at this point.

“Oh yeah sorry” he replied, letting you go and staring at you for a moment before thanking you a million times and placing kisses all over your face.you giggled uncontrollably and started pushing him away. You stared at him for a moment. Both of you are out of breath from laughing and smiles on your faces.

Were you in love with your best friend?

“ I'm really sorry eds” you said to him as he stared at you and hurt was all over his face.

“ i think- i think maybe i liked you” you told him truthfully he laughed softly The sadness that had clouded his face suddenly lifted, replaced by a glimmer of relief and understanding ‘’ i liked you too y/n” “ no eds not in a best friend kind of way… more than that’’ you said shyly

‘’ i know’’ he said looking at me happily

“ what- what do you mean you know? I never told you and I tried really hard not to show it too. Do you know how hard it was not to tell you ! i didn't want to ruin our friendship because i thought it would never work cause we only saw each other once a year for a couple days and there was no way you felt the same” you rambled quickly not stopping for air once before he put his hands onto your face and smiled at you. you looked at him for a second before quickly looking at his lips. His lips crashed into yours and you smiled into the kiss. You felt like you were fourteen again giggling like a school girl with her first crush.

In that very moment, you were overjoyed and you realized that the 14-year-old version of yourself had envisioned this scenario a million times, at the very least.It was a revelation you never saw coming. All those summers of concealing your feelings for the boy you had grown to care for more deeply than you had ever imagined possible were over. You didn't need to hide those emotions any longer, because it turned out he felt the same way.

- Felix is the youngest between Venetia and Farleigh. Venetia being five years older than him and Farleigh being a year and a half older(I just want teen Venetia playing with kid Felix okey 😭)

- Venetia read bedtime stories to Felix when he was like 6-7 y/o (Elspeth doesn't want to, and Sir James was busy) and sometimes she created some original stories for him. At some point she stopped doing it because #adolesent and #youretoobigforthatfelix

- Felix's grandmother used to have a butterfly sanctuary when she was alive. Felix used to go with her a lot and learned how to take care of them, thanks to that butterflies are one of his favorite bugs.

- Farleigh discovered that he was pansexual in kindergarten. He kisses a boy AND HE LIKES ITTTT~

- Oliver can't drive. That's it

- Oliver also can't cook, for some reason everything he touches tastes like ass. That bitch says he has to "wOrK" BABE YOU'RE USELESS

- Felix knows how to cook, but he prefers baked. In my mind he learned some very specific things for very specific reasons. For example he learned how baked cause he wanted a Pie he watched in a movie(WAITRESS CAUSE HE'S A HOPELESS ROMANTIC) At first he went to some stores but the taste did not convince him, then he asked his cook to make him the Pie but the taste did not convince him either, in the end he decided to do it himself. At first he was shit in the kitchen, but little by little he managed to understand it and ended up enjoying making desserts and stuff

- Venetia writes love novels in her free time, and she's pretty good at it! Felix reads them and always said she should publish them

- FELIX LOVES READ ROMANCE BOOKS. He thinks it is embarrassing and he hides his books.

- Farleigh and Felix have a strange obsession with knives. They both have a large collection of them, Felix even knows how to do tricks, Venetia thinks they are weird.

- Felix hates Ghost stories, but for some reason he likes movies about serial killers, body horror, cannibalistic shit and gory things. He said he likes the feeling of being uncomfortable with those movies.

- Farleigh was the first person who knows that Felix is bisexual. They became much closer that day.

Preparing for the Sightseeing Outing

Katarina is back home. She is working on the program for the sightseeing outing. Even though she has accepted to be Cezar and Jean's guide tomorrow, she is not confident that she is up to the task. Unlike Nathan, Cezar and Jean don't seem to have a poor sense of direction, so they will probably not get on the wrong path. She could actually get lost herself since she doesn't know the streets so well.

Katarina has recommended a lot of places, so they won't be able to cover it in one day. She should focus on the places they might like, but she doesn't know their tastes. In retrospect, today she should have talked about their likes instead of their siblings stories. In her past life, she could have used her smartphone to ask them, but in this life, she can only send letters, which is less convenient.

Katarina tries to select several places that Cezar might enjoy and be interested in. She also picks vacation-like spots to make him rest.

After deciding on a program, Katarina falls asleep right away. She is tired after her busy day.

Before the Sightseeing Outing

In the morning, Anne wakes Katarina up and helps her get ready.

While half-asleep, Katarina heads towards the carriage. On the way, she meets Keith, who asks her if she is going out in town. Katarina replies that she will act as a sightseeing guide today. Keith asks her who she will guide around. Katarina vaguely answers "Ethenell people" since Cezar and Jean want to go out incognito. Keith still guesses that she is referring to the Prince of Ethenell. He shockingly asks her how she became his guide. Katarina simply replies that it somehow happened. Keith is not satisfied with Katarina's explanation. Keith is protesting but she leaves him behind because she doesn't want to be late.

Meeting Cezar

Katarina will meet Cezar and Jean on the outskirts of town. They don't want to openly go out through the castle gate because they would be assigned lots of guards if they did.

Katarina arrives at the meeting place. Cezar calls her out. He is dressed the same way as on their first meeting.

Katarina notices that Jean is not there. Cezar awkwardly explains that Jean had a sudden business coming up and couldn't come. Katarina thinks it is a shame, but they can buy lots of souvenirs for him. Cezar is surprised that Katarina is okay with them being alone together. Katarina doesn't understand why. After all, they were alone together when they met.

Katarina wonders if Cezar is feeling uneasy because Jean is not here to protect him. Katarina tries to reassure him by telling him that this area is safe and that she is also very strong despite how she looks. Katarina has a dark familiar, the magnifying magic tool created by Larna, and the antique magic tool that she keeps on her as a charm, she is all set. Cezar makes an awkward smile while listening to her. After all, he is also strong himself. So strong that some people run away upon seeing him. Katarina remembers that Cezar is a former mercenary. There should be no problem in that case.

Cezar mutters to himself that he can understand why the people around Katarina worry so much. Even so, he won't hold back and have Katarina be his guide today.

Cezar asks Katarina not to speak so formally with him since he is dressed as a servant.

Visiting the Bookstore

They start sightseeing.

Katarina takes Cezar to the biggest bookstore in town. She thought it would be a good place to show him since Cezar wants to study all kinds of things. Cezar seems to enjoy the place, so she is glad.

Katarina explains to Cezar that this bookstore has a large selection of books, and they also receive new releases quickly. Herself, she purchases novels and agriculture books there. Cezar wonders why a noble lady like her would read agriculture books. Katarina explains that it is her hobby. On her days off, she changes into farming clothes and works the fields. Hearing this, Cezar bursts laughing. He laughs hard while holding his stomach. They attract the attention of passersby who are curious about a handsome young man laughing so hard. Katarina asks Cezar what is so funny with farming. After all, you get to work out, stay in good health, and eat vegetables. Cezar laughs even more. Katarina really wonders what makes him laugh.

After he has finished laughing, Cezar explains that there is nothing wrong with farming. What is funny is just the idea of a high-ranking noble lady in farming clothes working the fields. Especially since he can easily imagine her doing it happily. Katarina shrugs it off since she is used to people getting surprised by this.

Moving on, Katarina explains that she has taken him here because she thought this place would be useful for his studies. Cezar thanks her for her solicitude with a grinning smile. Katarina feels relieved that she made the right choice.

They enter the bookstore and look at the books. Katarina usually only checks romance novels and agriculture books, but she feels unusually captivated by the other genres of books that Cezar is interested in. She enjoys herself in a different way from browsing romance novels with her friends.

Katarina's stomach rumbles. Cezar proposes they go eat something.

Visiting the Restaurant

Katarina and Cezar head to a small restaurant that Katarina often visits incognito. It serves food that tastes nostalgic to her. It isn't the kind of place fit for royalty, but she has included it in the program since Cezar wouldn't mind it.

Katarina is nervous about whether Cezar will like the food. Cezar loves it, so she feels relieved. She excitedly tells him that it is one of her favorite restaurants. Cezar is happy she took him to her favorite place. He gives her a natural smile, different from his princely smile.

Despite Katarina being his guide, Cezar actually escorts her and acts like a big brother. He pays the restaurant bill and buys her some snacks at the street stands.

Katarina tells Cezar he is like a reliable big brother. Cezar is surprised since he is heavily taken care of by his older brother. It feels new and nice to him to be called a reliable older brother. Cezar is making a mischievous smile.

Visiting the Farm

Cezar would like to study farms and agriculture. It seems like today's outing will include an observation trip.

They head out of town to the closest farm. After getting permission, they look at the fields.

There is a large field with abundant golden crops. It looks like a sea of gold. Katarina excitedly tells Cezar the field is the same color as his eyes. Cezar has golden eyes but he usually hides their color with black lenses. Cezar doesn't think his eyes are so beautiful since people are terrified of them. Katarina assures him they are. Cezar smiles.

While looking at the fields, Cezar mutters to himself that Ethenell still can't produce crops well since the fields have been burned during the civil war. He would like Ethenell to have abundant fields like that soon.

Katarina remembers that her international affairs lesson mentioned that Ethenell had been plagued by a civil war up until the current king ascended the throne. Fields had been burned down during the civil war.

Katarina doesn't know what to say so she keeps watching the fields silently with Cezar. After a while, Cezar snaps out of it and goes to the farmers to ask them questions. The farmers kindly answer them. Katarina and Cezar thank them.

Cezar and Katarina go back to the carriage. Katarina regrets that she couldn't prevent Cezar from working during his holiday. But since Cezar seems to have enjoyed himself, she guesses it is fine.

Arriving at the Orphanage

Next, Cezar would like to visit an orphanage.

Katarina thinks it must be because they are building orphanages in Ethenell after many children lost their parents during the civil war. Incidentally, Sora's childhood friend, Arnaud, has started working in one of these orphanages. Katarina would have preferred their next destination wasn't related to work, but she still wants to fulfill Cezar's wish.

Katarina takes Cezar to the orphanage where Cyrus delivers his crops. Upon arriving, Katarina is warmly welcomed by the kids and the teachers. They all know her because she has come back several times after Cyrus took her there. The kids are curious about Cezar since they are not shy of strangers. The precocious girls even are sparkly-eyed looking at him since he is a wild type.

The small kids (the age of kindergartners) ask Katarina to play with them. Whenever she comes over, Katarina always takes on the job of playing with the small kids since she can't teach the other kids anything. As a result, she is popular with the small kids. Also, when she comes with her beautiful friends, the precocious boys get careful about their appearances and keep glancing at her friends, while with her, they just ask for treats and leave. Except for one boy.

Liam is shouting at the small kids to let Katarina rest since she has just arrived.

When she first came here, Liam was a foul-mouthed kid with a bad attitude. But now, he is a serious, diligent, and considerate boy who is proactive with his studies and work. Only Liam doesn't ask for treats and leaves.

Liam invites Katarina to rest in the dining hall. He will make her some tea. Katarina is impressed he can make tea. Liam says he can handle this much, though he can't make fine tea that would satisfy a noble lady.

Only the director and Liam know that Katarina is a noble. All the others think she and her friends are from merchants' families. Because of this, she has introduced Cezar as an acquaintance from a foreign merchant family.

Katarina tells Liam that it will be fine but if the tea is too bitter, she might spit it out on his face. Liam is surprised, then replies with a grin that in that case, he will run away before she spits it out.

Katarina calls Cezar over not to leave him alone. She also tells the small kids that she will play with them after having tea.

Tasting Liam's Tea and the Girl's Cookies

Katarina sits in the dining hall with Cezar. Cezar looks at the kids around them chatting away and thinks it is a good orphanage. Katarina tells him that the orphanage is well-equipped thanks to the donations of the nobles. Cezar is surprised that nobles in Sorcier make donations to orphanages. Katarina replies that they do that out of duty. They allocate a donation portion in their work budget. Cezar is impressed that there is this kind of system in Sorcier.

Liam and a girl arrive with the tea. Katarina is pleasantly surprised that they have brought cookies with the tea.

Liam explains that these cookies were made by the girl. She wants to have another person taste them and give them their opinion. The girl is about the age of a grade schooler. She shyly explains that she is learning baking from Maria. Everyone here says her sweets are good but she would like the opinion of another person. Liam adds that the girl was already baking sweets before but she has greatly improved after learning from Maria. In his opinion, her sweets are as good as the ones sold in shops. Hearing Liam's praise, the girl blushes. Katarina realizes that Liam has not only become considerate but also popular with girls.

Katarina thinks it is indeed a great advantage to have learned from Maria. After all, Maria is a pro baker whose delicious sweets rival those of the shops around.

Cezar discreetly asks Katarina if, by "Maria", she means Maria Campbell, the Wielder of Light. Katarina says yes and remembers that Cezar knows her. Cezar only knows her because she is famous, they are not acquainted.

Katarina realizes that Cezar and Maria haven't met yet. They were supposed to meet at the International Assembly, but she may have prevented their meeting. This sightseeing outing could also be a game event that she has unknowingly stolen. She may have already been acting as the villainess who gets in the way of the capture target. Still, she wonders if Cezar will really fall in love with Maria if he meets her.

Katarina tastes the tea made by Liam. She tells him it is good. Liam smiles. Katarina tastes the cookies made by the girl. She excitedly shouts that they are delicious and that they will definitely be popular. The girl's face lights up. Liam happily tells the girl that, since her cookies have gotten the stamp of approval of a noble lady, she should be able to work in a pastry shop. The girl blushes. Katarina can tell that the girl loves Liam.

Comparing Orphanages in Sorcier and Ethenell

The other kids in the dining hall approach them and tell them what they want to be in the future. A girl is learning sewing and wants to work in a clothes store later. A boy likes learning new things and wants to be a scholar. A boy is learning swordplay and wants to become a knight. Katarina feels like a grandma as she is looking fondly at the children expressing their dreams for the future.

Cezar is impressed that the orphanage not only gives an education to the children but also teaches them all kinds of things. Katarina explains that in addition to giving them an education, the orphanage also teaches the children practical skills like cooking and sewing so that they can live by themselves once they are adults. The occasional visitors also teach the kids, and the kids can further their studies with them. Cezar finds it amazing that orphans can further their studies and have dreams. Cezar is smiling fondly.

When Katarina asks why he is making that face, Cezar explains that the orphanages in Ethenell have their hands full looking after the kids so it is difficult for them to give them a proper education. Cezar feels frustrated over the difference between Ethenell and Sorcier. He mutters to himself with a pained face:

Cezar: What should I do for the people of Ethenell to be able to live more happily?

Katarina can tell Cezar is really concerned for his people and that's why he keeps working relentlessly. His concern is a wonderful thing, but she is worried he might overwork himself to death. Katarina doesn't know the answer to his question but she can tell him one thing.

Katarina: I don't think this is something you should think about here alone. When you return to your country, please talk about it to your older brother, His Majesty the King of Ethenell, and to the people you rely on. If you talk about it and think about it together, it should be enough. It should not be an issue that you can take on by yourself.

Cezar is frozen in shock, then smiles. He thinks Katarina is indeed right and will follow her advice when he returns to Ethenell. Katarina encourages him to do so or else he will make lots of mistakes. Cezar thanks Katarina with a smile. Katarina is embarrassed that Cezar takes her opinion so seriously.

Cezar Discusses With Liam

Liam asks Cezar if he is from Ethenell. Cezar says yes. Liam says he is from Ethenell too. He asks Cezar if he lives there. Cezar answers he is in Sorcier for work but he will return to Ethenell later.

Liam asks if the war is over in Ethenell. Cezar says it is not completely, but mostly over. Liam is glad since it means that there will be fewer robbers. His dad said that it was because the war was going on that the number of robbers increased. Cezar agrees since the people who lost everything because of the war would become robbers to survive. However, there should be less damage now. Liam is glad that there won't be more people like him.

Katarina remembers that Liam's parents were killed by robbers.

Cezar awkwardly asks Liam if his parents were killed by robbers. Liam replies that his father, mother, older brother, older sister, and the people of the villages all died protecting him. He was the only one to survive. Then he lived like an animal in the slums, got caught, and after various things happened, he was taken to Sorcier.

Liam has said it in an unconcerned way unlike before, when he said it in a painful way. When Katarina asks him why, Liam tells her it is because he has decided to face forward and live. Liam is such a strong boy.

Cezar's eyes cloud and he apologizes to Liam. Liam doesn't understand why Cezar apologizes to him. Cezar probably wanted to apologize to him as a royal, but he is a foreign trader at the moment. He suddenly realizes he is supposed to hide his social status and tries to fix his mistake. He tells Liam he is apologizing to him as an adult who is supposed to protect children like him. Liam says he doesn't need excuses and would rather Cezar make Ethenell a better place so that there won't be more children like him. Cezar says he will work hard for it.

Cezar asks Liam if he plans to stay in Sorcier forever. Cezar looks like he expects Liam to say yes. But Liam says that he plans to return to Ethenell once he is an adult and has saved money. Cezar is surprised since Sorcier is a wealthy country with better life conditions. Liam explains that he hasn't returned to his village ever since it burned down. He would like to go back there and see with his own eyes what it has become. He has also heard that the new king is working hard on making Ethenell a good country, so the situation should be better once he goes back there. He also would like to use what he has learned in Sorcier to get a job where he can make Ethenell a way better country. It is his dream.

Liam has said it in a little bashful way. Katarina is impressed to see how much Liam has changed since the first time she met him. He told her before that it was his plan, but it is the first time she has heard him say that it was his "dream". Katarina is glad that Liam has a dream.

Cezar has been oddly silent. Looking at him, Katarina realizes that he is trying hard not to cry. Cezar is probably trying to hold back tears of joy. Liam is confused by Cezar's reaction and asks him if there is something wrong. Cezar pulls himself together and tells Liam that he is just happy hearing his words. He thinks Ethenell will become a way better country with people like him. He will have Liam work hard for it. Liam shyly says yes.

Katarina Gets Questioned by the Girls

Cezar and Liam are now talking about Ethenell. Katarina wants to listen too, but she is discreetly called by a girl.

When she comes over to her, she gets surrounded by girls. Katarina has often been surrounded by small kids, but this is the first time she is surrounded by girls of this age.

Katarina: Umm~ Is there something wrong?

When I asked this to the girl who called me over,

Girl A: Big Sister Katarina, what is your relationship with that mister?

...she asked while leaning forward.

Katarina: Umm..... A friend?

I couldn't possibly tell them he was a foreign prince and that I was his guide showing him around, so I replied this.

Girl A: Oh, I see. Since you have come together today, I thought he was your real boyfriend.

She readily said this. I was so shocked that my mouth was wide open.

While I was frozen like that, the girls continued talking.

Girl B: As I said, Big Sister Katarina's boyfriend is Big Brother Geordo. Am I wrong?

Girl C: Whaaat~? Her boyfriend is Big Brother Keith, don't you think?

Girl B: But Big Brother Keith said they were brother and sister.

Girl C: No, when I asked him, he said she was his adoptive sister. So he can be her secret boyfriend.

Girl D: In that case, Big Brother Alan too!

Girl E: What about Big Brother Nicol?

The girls happily chatted while I felt so embarrassed I wished I could run away.

For these girls to look at my relationship with my brothers and my friends that way, girls these days really are precocious.

Girl B: But Big Brother Geordo definitely loves Big Sister Katarina!

Girl C: Big Brother Keith too!

After saying this, the girls looked at me.

Uuuh, I still hadn't tackled this topic yet, it was a delicate period for me.

To begin with, how come the girls here are so perceptive and notice things that I haven't noticed for a long time myself? How are girls these days?

Girl B: Hey, Big Sister Katarina, who do you like?

Girl C: Did someone confess to you?

After she had said this, a lot of girls turned their sparkly eyes towards me. I...

Girl B: Ah, wait!

Girl C: She ran away!

I ran away full speed.

Katarina ran away from the dining hall because she couldn't handle the girls. She feels relieved that they didn't chase her.

Katarina Plays Tag With the Small Kids

Katarina sees the small kids playing tag in the garden. She feels like she is more suited to interacting with kids that age rather than more grown-up girls.

Katarina comes near the small kids. They surround her and all talk to her about playing tag. Katarina asks them if they can join them, which they happily accept.

Katarina starts playing tag with the small kids. They are unexpectedly nimble so Katarina must go at it seriously.

After a while, Katarina is out of breath while the small kids are not tired from running around. She takes a break while sitting on the grass. The small kids ask her if she wants to play hide-and-seek.

Cezar arrives and asks her if she is alright. Katarina says she will once she catches her breath.

Katarina asks Cezar if he has finished talking with Liam. Cezar smiles and says they have talked about lots of nice things. Katarina remembers that Cezar was about to cry of happiness earlier, and feels happy for him.

Katarina Holds a Baby

Katarina and Cezar hear a baby crying. Katarina is confused since there are not supposed to be babies in the orphanage. When she looks in the direction of the cries, she sees one of the female staff members holding a baby in her arms.

The staff member comes towards Katarina and thanks her for playing with the kids

Katarina asks the staff member about the baby. The staff member explains that the baby's mother hasn't recovered well after giving birth and thus can't look after the baby. As a result, they will temporarily look after the baby instead. Katarina didn't know that the orphanage could temporarily look after kids. Though, now that she thinks about it, there are some kids that she has never seen again. Cezar is impressed that the orphanage can also temporarily look after kids. Katarina feels the same.

Katarina looks at the baby. She can't believe how small they are. The staff member chuckles and says it's because the baby was just born this month. The baby was crying but now he is silently looking at Katarina with round eyes. Katarina finds them cute.

The staff member chuckles and asks Katarina if she wants to hold them. Katarina flusteredly refuses since she has never held a baby before. The staff member insists. After all, Katarina may be blessed with a child in just a little while. She will also thoroughly teach Katarina to hold them, so she should try. The staff member is a little pushy, but Katarina also wants to hold them, so she accepts.

The staff member gives her directions and Katarina holds the baby. Katarina is holding the baby well. The baby is so soft and warm, and he smells so good. Katarina is overwhelmed by an indescribable feeling while holding them.

Katarina excitedly calls Cezar over to see them. For some reason, Cezar is a little distant from her. He still comes over but he has an awkward face.

The staff member tells Katarina that the baby has fallen asleep. Katarina looks down at the baby in her arms and can see they are sleeping peacefully. The staff member thinks it must be because Katarina is holding them well. Katarina thinks it is rather because the warmth and the nice scent of the baby have put her in a good mood.

The staff member will take the baby to a quiet place so that the small kids won't wake them up. Katarina softly gives back the baby to her. Now that the warmth and the softness of the baby is gone, Katarina feels somewhat lonely. The staff member leaves with the baby.

Cezar Thinks He Is Filthy

Katarina comes close to Cezar and asks him if he doesn't like babies. Cezar replies that it is not that he dislikes them, it is just that sometimes, he feels like he shouldn't get close to pure beings like that baby and the small kids. Katarina is surprised. Cezar explains that ever since he was 15, he has taken the lives of many people as a mercenary. It is not only his hands that are filthy with blood, his whole self is filthy. So he feels like he must not get near beautiful things so that he wouldn't soil them.

Cezar looks like a different person as he says this while looking at his hands. Katarina thought Cezar enjoyed his former mercenary life, but after hearing this, she realizes that it was actually hard for him. When she thinks about it, it must have been hard to suddenly become a mercenary after leaving the inner palace at 15. There must have been some circumstances behind it.

Just by spending some time with him, Katarina can tell Cezar is a gentle person. Since he doesn't seem like the kind of person who would keep hurting people, the mercenary life must have been hard for him. Cezar was feared because of his golden eyes, he had to fight painful memories. Behind his bright smile, there is actually a wounded heart.

In the game, maybe he fell for the heroine after she had healed his heart. In that case, she should maybe introduce Maria to Cezar. Katarina is afraid of her doom but she can't possibly leave Cezar like that. As a villainess, she can't heal his heart like the heroine would. She will introduce Maria to him and let her handle the healing. As for her, she will just express her own feelings on the matter.

After I had decided this, I held Cezar's hands tightly. Cezar had a very surprised face. I told him...

Katarina: Your hands supported me when I was about to fall. They are warm and gentle, I don't find them filthy. I am sure that Mister Jean, your older brother, and all the people who cherish you think the same thing. That's why I don't want you to say that your hands are filthy.

Cezar: ........

Cezar was silent while gazing at me with wide eyes. I continued.

Katarina: I think the people who cherish you would be sad if they heard you denigrate yourself like this.

After saying this, I held Cezar's hands even more strongly.

Katarina: Your hands are warm and gentle. And you are too.

As I had talked one-sidedly, I thought I might have upset him, but when I looked up at him, he had an even more surprised face.

He didn't seem angry. His face gradually broke into a gentle smile. Then Cezar said...

Cezar: Thank you.

Thank goodness, I didn't upset him.

When I relieved my grip on his hands out of relief, this time, Cezar was the one to grasp my hand. Then for some reason, he approached it towards his mouth.

Maria and Cezar's Standoff

Katarina is confused about the situation when someone suddenly calls her out. When she turns around, she sees Maria.

Maria usually looks lovely, but for some reason, she has a sharp stare and a stern expression.

She didn't say this in her usual gentle tone but in a stern resounding one.

What we were doing, huh? Well, I didn't know myself.

Until a while ago I was speaking my mind to Cezar, I was holding his hands and he is the one holding mine right now. I also would like to ask about this situation.

I was full of questions, but Cezar was the one who started speaking.

Cezar: We were just talking a little.

After saying this, he quickly released my hand and faced Maria. He had the smile I saw him making when he was standing up to people as a royal and noble.

Cezar: Could you be the famous Wielder of Light, Maria Campbell?

Maria: I don't know whether I am famous, but I indeed am Maria Campbell. You must be Prince Cezar Dahl from Ethenell?

Cezar: Yes, that's right.

Ah, it seemed like the two of them each knew about the other.

It felt like they knew about each other but were not acquainted with each other. And that it was their first meeting right now.

This handsome boy and pretty girl gazing at each other… It was such a beautiful sight. This must have been a game CG.

Now that they had met, these two would fall in love with each other, and...

Cezar: Well, with my position, I just won't hire people I can't trust. And since I show myself plain like this, it can't just be anyone.

Maria: Is that so? Still, Lady Katarina is someone you have just met.

Cezar: Well, actually, I met her at the International Assembly and we hit it off.

Katarina is confused since, despite their smiles, there isn't a sweet mood around Maria and Cezar. Rather than sweet, it actually feels electric. Katarina didn't expect a sweet mood right away since Maria was playing hard-to-get but she at least expected Cezar to take interest in her and gradually get charmed by her. But however she looks at them, Cezar doesn't look charmed at all. And Maria is colder than usual.

Cezar and Maria's conversation goes on. While listening, Katarina learns that Maria came here because she had a mission outside, and since the location was close to the orphanage, Cyrus asked her to deliver vegetables there for him. Then she saw Katarina and Cezar alone together without any servants and she thought that it was dangerous. Katarina also thinks it was dangerous for Cezar to go out without a servant but he insisted that it was fine.

Since they had their encounter, Katarina wonders if Cezar and Maria will interact with each other from now on. Katarina thought earlier that she should have the two of them deepen their relationship for Cezar's sake, but their relationship doesn't seem to deepen at the moment. It bothers her but she won't cut in their conversation.

After a while, it is time for Cezar to go home. Maria wishes him a safe trip back. The encounter event seems to be over. Despite only watching, Katarina feels exhausted.

Cezar tells Maria he is going home with Katarina. Hearing this, Maria offers to take him back home since the ministry and the castle are in the same direction. It will also be convenient for Katarina that way since she can directly go home. Cezar accepts Maria's offer with a princely smile.

Katarina goes back home alone. She is completely exhausted.

*** Cezar's POV ***

Maria's Hostility

Cezar is riding a carriage back with Maria.

Maria is so famous that rumors about her have reached Ethenell. Cezar has seen her at the International Assembly, so it doesn't feel like a first meeting for him.

He doesn't mind riding a carriage with someone he has just met, but her sharp stare makes him feel awkward. She has directed full hostility towards him ever since she has called out to him. He finally had some alone time with the girl who opened his eyes, and it turned out like this. This isn't funny.

Cezar tells Maria she doesn't need to show him so much hostility since he won't do anything to Katarina. Maria is surprised. She wasn't aware that she was making a hostile face. Cezar wonders how much Maria loves Katarina for her to unconsciously pour hostility on him.

Maria Asks Cezar About His Bride Searching Plans

After pulling herself together, Maria asks Cezar if it is true that he has come to Sorcier to search for a bride. Cezar sharply asks where she has heard that. Maria chuckles and replies that her superior at the Ministry of Magic cautioned her about Cezar approaching her. Though, she hasn't told anyone since he asked her not to. Cezar guesses that her superior must have been worried about Cezar taking Maria as his fiancée.

Maria looks so lovely and beautiful that some men could fall in love with her at first sight. She looks like an honest girl and she must be pretty smart since she always scored high at the Academy of Magic. Even if she is a commoner, it wouldn't be strange for a foreign royal to propose to her.

If Cezar hadn't met Katarina, maybe he would have taken an interest in Maria and gotten fascinated by her. But this is just hypothetical and in this reality, he does not have such feelings for Maria, and Maria probably doesn't have any for him either.

Maria: Prince Cezar, I have heard that if your desired partner responds favorably, you can take her back to Ethenell as your fiancée. However, Lady Katarina is the fiancée of one of the royals of this country. I don't think she would be a suitable partner for you.

Maria said this while firmly staring at me. I could feel a strong determination in her defiant eyes.

As expected. Maria was wary of me seducing Katarina and taking her away to Ethenell as my fiancée.

I could see this look too, earlier. I could tell that she would think that if she knew about me searching for a fiancée. However, I really shouldn't make an enemy of Maria right now.

I put on a gentle smile on my face, then...

Cezar: Of course, I have no intention of making a pass at the fiancée of the third prince.

I decisively said this, like it was all but common sense.

All while shooting sparks from her eyes,

Maria: Is it true?

She asked this while still suspicious of me.

Cezar: Yes, of course.

I asserted with a smile.

She must have been an honest girl. She relaxed her guard after I had said this without thinking any of it.

She didn't seem to notice that I add secretly added "For now" in my heart.

Cezar Listens to Maria Talk About Katarina

Maria has relaxed her guard and is now looking gently at Cezar. Since Cezar has asked, she is happily talking about Katarina.

While listening, Cezar realizes that Maria loves Katarina from the bottom of her heart. If he made an enemy of her, she would be an opponent as troublesome as Geordo. He is all smiles while listening but he actually has cold shivers.

Cezar Is Back at the Royal Palace

Cezar has arrived at the royal palace. He can finally relax.

Cezar returns to his room. Jean has been waiting for him and asks him with a grin how it went.

Jean has pretended to have something to do today so that Cezar and Katarina could be alone together.

At first, Cezar wanted to tell Jean "Mind your own business", but since he actually had a good time with Katarina, he considers telling him "Thank you. It is thanks to you that I could have a good time" but it was embarrassing, so he ends up saying "It was okay" before entering his room. He can faintly hear Jean giggling behind him.

Cezar Can't Ignore his Feelings for Katarina Anymore

Cezar dives onto his bed. He is thinking of Katarina.

He took an interest in Katarina back at the International Assembly when she was not scared of his golden eyes and said they were pretty. He could contain his feelings when he learned that she was the fiancée of a royal of Sorcier. However, when she told him with her gentle voice and warm hands "Your hands are warm and gentle. And you are too." he felt his heart getting healed.

When he was a mercenary, he had relationships with female nightlife workers. Despite this, when he thinks of Katarina, his cheeks turn hot as if he had just reached puberty. It is the first time he has felt like this.

He has fallen in love with the woman named Katarina Claes.

He can't contain his feelings with reason anymore. Katarina's fiancée is a prince of Sorcier who is infatuated with her. And the people around Katarina are all infatuated with her, including Maria Campbell. He won't be able to freely make a move on her.

Even so, these newborn feelings will be painful when he has to end his relationship with her at the end of the foreign study. He would hate not to see her ever again. He wishes to have some kind of connection with her. And to this end, he will need to make Sorcier indebted to him. This is what he intended in the first place for Ethenell's sake, but now he also has personal reasons.

Something Liam told him about the incident in Ocean Harbor Town bothers him, so he will investigate it. By doing so, he feels like he will uncover information that will make Sorcier indebted to him.

Cezar shakes off the fluffy feelings in his head and switches to work mode.

A constructive approach to building a solid Femslash Subculture in a new fandom, a thread (+ anecdotal “Case Study”)

(I posted this as a thread on twitter a week ago in response to some pretty old arguments getting thrown around again; the situation has cooled down now, but somebody asked me to put this thread on tumblr, and I thought it could help some people, so here we go.)

In 2013 I was in the Silmarillion fandom when the Hobbit movies brought in a giant influx of new fans.

I was not one of the people who had been into the Silmarillion for ages, I only just read the book too, and the fandom at the time was very much in flux.

Since Baldur’s Gate is in a similar situation - a very old fandom with a new influx of fans and new characters - I think it might be helpful for me to explain how we created a space for fanwriters and -artists to explore and celebrate femslash ships.

Here are my recommendations for femslash fans who want more f/f fanworks in the Baldur’s Gate 3 fandom, sectioned off in

“3 Warnings”

“3 Ways forward”

and a “””Case Study””” of what happened in the Silmarillion fandom.

Warning 1: Be aware that your fandom is a baby.

Nominally, the game has been out for less than a month. Most people who will write amazing fanfics for your favorite characters maybe don’t even have the game yet because they can’t afford it until the Christmas sales, or they just haven’t finished it yet (like me). Most people don’t want to write for a fandom until they have consumed all available canon. You don’t know how the fandom will look like yet, but you can start building a solid foundation to influence it.

Warning 2: Don’t alienate the Astarion-fans.

Astarion is fandom-bait. He is the exact kind of character people who ‘don’t get it’ have been fuming over for decades, and who people who ‘do get it’ get obsessed with. He is the exact formula that has been working since at least the 80s: A morally grey bad boy with slightly edgy good looks who is also - and this is THE key for this kind of fandom-bait - very vulnerable and can absolutely be made into a better person/ be healed by his love interest.

This is why most heroes in (especially older) romance novels work. This is why Lestat worked. This is why Kylo Ren worked.

The thing is - the people who go gaga over him now? A lot of them will grow bored at some point. Either they will leave the fandom, or they will become invested in other characters from this fandom.

So the worst thing you can do is make them feel like the femslash community is rude, confrontational, whiny. Sorry, but that is how fandom works.

Fanwriters write fanfics for 2 reasons: 1. They have fun while writing something specific. 2. They get great interactions because they write something specific. If they look at the f/f corner and see people constantly fighting or complaining, guess what? They won’t be as interested in writing about their favorite female characters. And especially in Baldur’s Gate 3, the female characters are not easy to love, but once you do, they have potential to make you into absolute stans. I disliked Lae’zel a lot during Act 1, but by now I honestly think she’s the absolutely cutest. And Shadowheart is definitely intriguing, but I want to know how her story ends before I get really invested in her. (And we don’t even have to talk about Karlach…)

Warning 3: Lurkers have no voice in fandom.

Sorry, but this is a fact. If you don’t write fanfic or draw fanart, you don’t get to complain about what other people draw/write about. We create fanworks because we are enjoying them, not because of some social obligation. We are giving you free labor, and if you keep complaining about the things we write because it’s not what you want to see, we will just be less likely to write the things you want to see. So if you don’t create your own fandom content, you can whine as much as you want, but you will just make those who actually do create look at your whole niche of fandom with way less interest than they might have had.

Now, what can you actually do to build the basis for a solid femslash subfandom?

Measure 1: For lurkers: Support those who create fanworks you like.

And I’m not saying financially. I’m coming from an old-school-fandom perspective here. You know what will absolutely make me want to write another fic for a pairing that maybe doesn’t have as much works about them as the big ships? Really, really nice people who either write detailed comments on my fics, or who engage with me on social media - like, actively comment on my post or even hop in my DMs and tell me how much they liked something I have written.

Complaining about people who don’t write your ships is the worst thing you can do. Celebrating people who do write your ships is the best thing you can do.

Measure 2: For most writers: Kind of logical, but - write.

Write long-fic, short-fic, flash-fic about your favorites. Plaster your social media profiles with it. Do monthly challenges, request your pairings in cross-fandom exchanges, write long rambly threads about how awesome they are. Right now, YOU get to potentially create the fanon. You get to sway people’s opinions of characters. And you get to actively build this community.

And please, try not to get discouraged if it’s hard at first. Like I said - this fandom is a tiny baby that only just started screaming its little red head off. New fans will come. And they will do the same as the person in the screenshot, and maybe if they actually look through the ‘other tag’ bar or by filtering for F/F, they will find your works and be super happy about it.

Measure 3: For fans who want to invest more time and effort: Organize cool stuff for your community.

Fests, exchanges, challenges, discord servers, tags on tumblr or mastodon - there are tons of things you can make happen that will inspire people to create. Make a femslash month with themed weeks and prompts every day, for example, both for fanfic, fanart, edits, fanvids, whatever kind of fan-work anybody wants to contribute. Or make a challenge with a list of prompts, or a generator, or anything else you personally are able to do. Invite people to participate. Make it easy. Make it fun and welcoming.

And now to my “”case study”” which is completely anecdotal but which definitely left an expression on me.

The situation: The winter of 2013/2014. The second Hobbit movie has come out, Elrond is hot, Galadriel is hot, Tauriel is polarizing, Legolas looks weird. A ton of new people come into the Tolkien fandom, and discover the Silmarillion.

The Silmarillion-fandom has to deal with a new influx of people like it never has since the LotR-films. These are new fans who are used to new fandoms, not the LJ-survivors who make up a lot of the fandom. The new fans glom onto the usual suspects - Maedhros/Fingon, especially. But with Galadriel and Tauriel being so prominent in the Hobbit movies, the few fans who were already trying to put some femslash flavor in this fandom suddenly get a trickle of new people. Not that many. But some.

And then somebody decides to try and build a little bed for that trickle. Tumblr-User Elleth (not sure if she’s still around) creates the (by now defunct) archive “Textual Ghosts” to register all 600 unnamed wife characters in Tolkien’s work. A labor of extreme love for a fandom, and a big stepping stone for a developing femslash-subfandom. Soon afterward, tumblr-user Elleth and I start the first Legendarium Ladies April Event (legendariumladiesapril.tumblr.com) which would - without my continued support because I’m a fickle bitch and I’m still sorry about that - continue until 2020 and fill the event archives on AO3 with 150 new fics - which doesn’t seem a lot, but it also leaves out a lot of fanfics, fanart, fanpoems, fanedits etc. that were only ever posted on tumblr.

Meanwhile, I - always a multi-shipper and not devoted only to femslash, but VERY devoted to kinky smut which is also not really such a big thing in the Silmarillion fandom at this time - open a kink meme for the fandom. It creates a few new smuttier fanworks, but it also creates a few handful of female-centric works when I make a mini-event for world women’s day.

I am sorry to say that I abandoned this one too after about a year or two, but the kink meme is still there. (It would take another 8 years for somebody to be like “Hey so maybe you have incapacitating adhd, would you like to try ritalin?”)

Anyway, in this way, that trickle did become a brook. The M/M and even M/F works still outnumbered the F/F ones by miles, but F/F fans (and fans of female-centric works) WERE fed. And maybe more importantly - we built a community of people interested in the stories of women who were treated extremely badly by their source material. We made friends, we wrote stories for one another, we had fun. And that’s how you make a community within a fandom - you find some way to make it FUN.

(If Elleth should read this, I’m sorry for being an absolute flake, you’re wonderful.)

Oh also this is when I realized I’m not straight. So there’s that, too.

So if really love a fandom and you want to have more femslash works in this fandom? Start working towards it. You don't have to do it alone, there are other people out there who want to help you. But you need to find each other.

And you REALLY need to encourage each other.

(And also, stop making people outside of the femslash space associate you with nothing but complaints. That's not going to bring anybody into the fold. Be inviting, welcoming, have fun, be a positive community people WANT to join.)

Can you give me a run down of Carlanime/Necromommycon's relationship with Andy?

I'm just going to call her "Carlanime" throughout because it's easier and less confusing. This is not comprehensive; it would be ridiculously long if I tried to link everything she ever said about Andy.

On February 22, 2005, Carlanime emailed Turimel about Chris/"Rennie Gade", the Marine sockpuppet that Andy had brought into the Bit of Earth Yahoo! group in 2002. She pointed out that the originating IP addresses for one of Andy's messages and one of Chris's were one digit apart, which strongly suggested that they were the same person.

Carlanime apparently continued to follow events related to Andy over the years and posted about him occasionally on her LiveJournal (LJ).

On May 21, 2011, Carlanime emailed Turimel a copy of Andy's "eulogy" to Brittany, which he had posted publicly in the DAYD Facebook group. This is how Turimel found out about Brittany's murder and Andy's plan to make the New Zealand hike in her memory.

During the spring or summer of 2011, Carlanime started working on a murder mystery novel starring a character based on Andy.

On October 14, 2011, CFC posted "The Other Side of the Wank", a 20-point defense of Andy, on her LJ. On November 9, Carlanime commented sympathetically on this post.

Also on November 9, Carlanime posted publicly on her LJ about Andy. She called Abbey a "joiner" and cast doubt on the idea that Andy (who she erroneously believed was 17 at the time he met Abbey) had deliberately started a cult. She referred to him as a "creative mentally ill kid" and suggested that he seemed like a person who wanted to help and to do the right thing, but went tragically wrong--all of which very much fit the narrative Andy has always promoted about himself.

Andy saw an opportunity in Carlanime's post and contacted her the same day under an alias (never2late2hope), asking/demanding that she call out Turimel, victim-blaming, and downplaying his abusive actions. He also contacted her under his own LJ name (thanfiction), sending her a long message about Brittany and castigating her for sharing the eulogy, which he claimed had been friends-locked. Note that he began this message by stating that he had friended her on LJ and thanking her for friending him back. Unbeknownst to Andy, Carlanime created a filter group on her LJ so that she and her other friends could talk about him without his seeing it. Finally, Andy sent Carlanime an exchange he'd supposedly been forwarded between never2late2hope (which was, of course, Andy himself) and Turimel, in which never2late2hope was trying to convince Turimel to reconcile with Andy.

CFC also contacted Carlanime on November 9, asking her to call out Turimel for victim-blaming Brittany and perpetuating facts that CFC said were false.

Carlanime replied to Andy and stated that she didn't expect them to be BFFs or necessarily to remain LJ friends after he finished reading her older, friends-locked posts about him. She disagreed that she owed Brittany an apology and shared her opinion that Andy had "an affective disorder". Andy responded to this by offering her "the full story from [his] side", making excuses for why the eulogy didn't ring true, and giving her unasked-for validation for being "a decent human being".

In her next message, Carlanime indicated that she was interested in hearing more of Andy's side of the story, apologized to him, and joked about his not exactly being a criminal mastermind. When Andy brought up "Catch Me If You Can" in his response, Carlanime said that she had "a serious Abagnale crush". Andy agreed that he was "kind of awesome in a very twisted way" and suggested that Turimel's conception of him was partly based on Abagnale.

Within a day or so of this exchange, Carlanime added Andy on Facebook. Here, she noted that he messaged her soon after to tell her how adorable her baby was, and subsequently gifted her two unasked-for drawings of her children.

In Facebook messages dated November 15, Andy joked about his "criminal mastermindedry" and asked again if she wanted more information on "the Great Saga". When she said that she did, Andy then sent her an extremely long email containing the latest version of his life story. In another message, Andy turned the entire story around on Abbey, as if she had victimized, exploited, and abused him. Carlanime let that pass without comment, asking him about commission prices instead.

On November 20, Carlanime announced that she would pay $25 per story for stories based on her character Mina de Malfois, to be printed in a zine. Andy asked if he could contribute, "or am I a bit too scandalous?" Carlanime said she would be thrilled to have a submission from him.

Earlier in November, Carlanime had been commenting on Turimel's LJ that she felt pity for Andy. Someone took exception to the way she writes about this and ended up advising her, on November 25, to be careful in her new friendship with Andy. In a filtered post on her own LJ, she did not take this well, stating that she believed that what happened between Andy and Abbey should be ascribed to mental illness and immaturity rather than malice--and that she didn't care if she was wrong.

By December 5, Andy and Carlanime were exchanging messages about the character that she had based on him. Andy had a lot of ideas for his background and the plot. On the same day, he told Carlanime, "If you don't draw the lines, I won't try to be your cult leader, but I also won't shut up for hours."

That same day, Carlanime posted that Andy had drawn the character that she'd based on him. She endorsed commissioning art from him, adding, "I didn't get indoctrinated into a cult, so you know it's safe."

Later in December, Andy sent Carlanime a Christmas care package.

On February 5, 2012, Andy informed her in a Facebook message that he had just learned that "[he was] a symptom of someone else's psychosis and everything [he] thought he knew about [him]self and [his] past…[wasn't] true."

The next relevant bit of information I have is from March 8, 2013, when Carlanime posted on Tumblr that Andy might have a different diagnosis than what she'd been told (which was "Severe Gender Disphoria [sic] leading to Dissociative Identity Disorder possibly comorbid with Borderline Personality Disorder on select aspects"). She said that she didn't care and that it didn't change her opinion of Andy in any way, adding in the tags, "Actually I think I am a sociopath so there".

On July 9, Carlanime sent Abbey an anon ask (which she later stated was from her) about Andy's dropping/ignoring a friend and claiming it was to avoid being "a danger to [him]self or others".

On July 10, Carlanime posted on Tumblr Rules for Befriending Sociopaths, in which she stated that for her, Andy was "For Entertainment Purposes Only". She added, "I am able to enjoy him so much precisely because I don’t need him for anything. It is not a good idea to let oneself need anything from sociopaths…". Carlanime wrote authoritatively on how sociopaths relate to their friends, asserting that no cruelty is intended when they ignore or neglect them.

On April 8, 2014, Abbey posted about Andy's attempting to push her into sex work and his mean-spirited, shaming comments on her body. Carlanime told Abbey that this had made her unable to find Andy amusing anymore.

On April 13, Andy texted Carlanime, asking when she stopped being his friend and just found him amusing. He claimed that Abbey had omitted important context for his comments: that she was the one who expressed interest in sex work, that he'd been supportive, and that his only remarks about her body were to contrast her favorably with "silicone size 0 spray tan barbies".

On June 1, after accusations were made that Andy had sexually assaulted a bodypaint model, Carlanime started anonymously sharing excerpts from Andy's emails and messages to her on lol_meme.

On June 3, Carlanime shared Andy's incredibly long email to her on her Tumblr. From this point on, she began regularly posting about Andy and responding to posts by Andy Awareness bloggers.

On July 8, Carlanime responded to Abbey's post about "Fish Skin Rodeo" In the tags, she said, "never have i ever been so glad to have ended a friendship".

Sometime in April 2015, Carlanime began reading "Sluagh" and live-blogging the experience on Tumblr. Among other things, she said that it felt like recruitment material and that she wanted to wash her eyes out after reading it.

On April 13, Carlanime began sharing Andy's messages and emails to her on tf-talk and posting about them on her Tumblr.

On April 16, Carlanime commented anonymously on tf-talk that from the ages of nine through eleven, she had engaged in fake channeling behavior similar to what Andy did, creating "an elaborate fantasy world inhabited with fictional and historical figures who were 'in contact' with us". She said that the last time she remembered engaging in that type of behavior was at sixteen. (On July 24, 2018, she admitted that this was her.)

At some point after this, she deleted her Tumblr, saying that she felt it was time for her to leave Andy alone. In the summer of 2018, she created a new Tumblr and told an anon that this was because she was enraged that the lie that Andy had been underage when he and Abbey met was circulating again.

From June 25-July 28, 2018, Carlanime spent a month responding to the FAQ page that some of Andy's friends had created, calling out Andy's friend Chris for denying that Andy was a rapist, and posting more about Andy's harmful actions.

On July 7, she posted, on Andy's behalf, an apology to the people he'd wronged in Los Angeles that summer. She later indicated that she and Andy were still in contact, that she recognized that he'd been cruel, and that she believed there was a possibility he could be cruel and hurt people again.

On July 19, on her Thanfictioning Tumblr, Carlanime posted about how she first made contact with Andy: by catfishing him, basically. It is unclear exactly when this happened. She made flippant reference to “the internet diagnosis of sociopathic serial rapist”.

On July 23, Carlanime denied being an Andy Awareness blogger, though she said she supported the existence of those blogs, and admitted that the "Fish Skin Rodeo" story had not made her dislike Andy.

On October 26, on Thanfictioning, Carlanime said that she didn't believe that Andy was dangerous or was ever a cult leader, and that he didn’t do anything that much different from other people in dysfunctional relationships.

On November 4, on Thanfictioning, Carlanime said that she didn't believe that Andy was a rapist and attempted to discredit Diamond's story.

Later that day, Thanfictioning's identity was revealed. (Here are all of my posts on Thanfictioning.)

Carlanime posted on her regular Tumblr a few times in July 2019, mainly to bait and mock me, and to reiterate that none of the beliefs she'd expressed as Thanfictioning had changed. In the tags on that last post, she wrote, "it's ridiculous to feel surprised or betrayed".

Manga With Me: Obscure Head Canons (and Hypotheses) You’d Probably Develop When Reading the JJK Light Novels, Pt 2

Same as before, hypotheses at the end in case you want to keep it light and tight!

Part One

⚠️ Spoiler Warning for Jujutsu Kaisen Thorny Road at Dawn and season 2 of the anime (manga spoilers are vague at best).

Head Canon: The Moral High Ground is Going to Cost You

There's something to be said for sorcerers who operate in secret, careful to not evoke chaos with the existence of their strength and power and that of curses. Moreso when, in the heat of battle, they still factor in the greater good and weigh it against those in immediate danger. We saw it in Shibuya as Gojo used his technique in the presence of countless civilians which still came at a great cost to them. He was a bit more cavalier but the first story focused on Inumaki and his monk-like discipline to never use words carelessly lest he curse those around him.

Curses and curse users are shown to be morally impudent and his careful existence is juxtaposed by a curse user with a similar technique who employs it freely and without giving it a second thought as he tries to capture and subsequently traffick Nobara. Even when backed into a corner, Inumaki is taking hits to avoid accidentally causing harm to Nobara and it does him no favors. This is obviously indicative of a larger theme we see wherein the primary antagonists of JJK are regularly seen frolicking on the beach, playing soccer, playing board games, etc. Meanwhile, the limited stock of sorcerers are regularly having their asses handed to them for the sake of doing the right thing. Another stunning example of this is Nanami Kento when compared directly to Mei Mei.

Head Canon: Perhaps, More Specifically, Emotional Ties to Others Are Going to Cost You

What's funny about this is the fact that this is shown multiple times in a novel that only has five stories. We've already seen it countless times in the anime/manga:

JJK 0 - Yuta's inability to part with Rika curses her.

Season 1 - Megumi saves Yuji or vice versa and it brings about Sukuna and the killing curse upon Tsumiki.

Season 1 - Junpei's mother is used as his breaking point just as Junpei himself is used as leverage against Yuji.

Season 2 - There's something to be said about Riko Amanai and the hopelessness and turmoil her death inspires, whether you want to say Geto was emotionally tied to her or not.

Season 2 - In the story's biggest reveal, we come to realize that Gojo's inability to properly dispose of Geto's body creates a vulnerability Kenjaku is able to exploit.

While the story with Inumaki also ties into this, I think his relationship with Nobara is more proximal and subsequently, his story more or less shows that he is earnest regardless of whose safety is on the line. Emotion being a sliding scale and all, it makes sense that Mechamaru's story is the best example of how, even when there wasn't a physical risk to him, he was still grappling with how best to win a fight against another shikigami user. Mechamaru is uniquely qualified for the fight since his robot body is the only thing that can go into a gas infused curtain. While this is another example of technique matchups, ultimately, it's a far better insight into Mechamaru's presumed pragmatism when weighed against his affection for Miwa. He'd rather potentially gamble a strategic loss than jeopardize a friendship bracelet she'd given him. As for it's impact on the larger story, this heat of the moment desperation to maintain this connection to Miwa is perhaps what later inspires him to be greedier down the line in seeking a new body from Ken!Geto and Mahito and... we see how that turned out.

Head Canon: Gojo is Far More Sentimental Than His Flippancy Suggests

Gojo is constantly on his bull shit. The duality of the strongest sorcerer capable of processing everything who is constantly spouting Digimon references, binging sugary sweets and asking about his colleague's kink satisfaction is my favorite thing, honestly. Gojo cavalierly addresses his responsibilities as a sorcerer, one could argue he's kind of a bad teacher, but he goes out of his way to protect people even if his manner is rude. He point blank told Ijichi to not become a sorcerer lest he be killed which was disrespectful as hell but... the man had a point. Ijichi falls under the purview of Gojo's concern (whether that be as his once kohai or given how useful he is to him now, I won't say) and Gojo pulls strings to make sure that he too is taken care of. Ijichi, the backbone of operations at Jujutsu Tokyo carries that weight unyieldingly because he assumes "it's the least he can do" even though we know that managers actually pave the way for a lot of the goings on in jujutsu society. It's a symbiotic relationship but Ijichi carries every loss, like Yuji's death on a mission, excruciatingly personally. To the point where it wears him down. In the last book, we saw that, following Geto's defection, Gojo recognizes the delicate nature of a person's heart. It's why he entrusts Yuji's mentorship to Nanami. What's interesting about all of this is, if he can see Ijichi's stress and exhaustion, how did he miss Geto's? Maybe that's a burden he also carries. Ironically, I think this harsh way of caring for others is maybe the way of the sorcerers because we see it with Megumi and Nobara in how they treat Yuji.

Head Canon: There's an Obvious Sacrifice of Youth in Jujutsu Society But There's Also Nowhere for Girlhood to Exist

With what we don't see of Mai in the main story, the story that centers on her deciding to go against orders and take on a curse much stronger than her is actually so heartbreaking? Let's start off with the fact that she chose to unnecessarily exorcise a flyhead which is ultimately what forges a connection between her and Yuu, a girl who later became a window for sorcerers. Seems like a small task considering Mai's relative competency but as the story progresses, we get a deep insight into the fact that, the terror Mai had for curses as a kid is still alive and well within her. Whether she can defend herself or not, she is still fearful but she pushes forward "alone" because that's the only choice Maki left her with.

What's interesting about Mai and the Kyoto students is, 1) the sheer volume/concentration of female students compared to Tokyo and, 2) their propensity to attack as a group with the exception of Todo. In JJK 0, Maki remarked that those who are weak tend to have to stick together. I don't mention this as an assessment of the relative strength of Miwa, Nishimoto or Mai (especially since I still think Miwa will get a power up). But this story demonstrates their pack mentality when they were just idling in a cafe like students should but even in not allowing Mai to go after Yuu alone. Their success was because of their reliance on one another but, from what we've seen in Shibuya and what's to come in the culling games... that doesn't bode well for fighters who can't defend on their own.

Mai is a product of one of the big 3 jujutsu families, the Zenin clan being incredibly misogynistic to boot. As such, she is still downtrodden and runs the risk of being admonished even when fulfilling duties in line with what a sorcerer should do. She (and the other girls) are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Additionally, I assume the Kyoto school's tendency to fight as a group is from the influence of Gakuganji (which leads me to think Gojo might be pushing his students a bit more recklessly for the sake of making them stronger). But where there are many characters, specifically adults, who have an outright desire to protect their childhood, I think it's interesting that Mai, Miwa and Nishimoto are doing all they can to hang onto whatever sense of girlhood they can muster. It makes them catty and they seem to espouse some misogynistic ideals of what girls should look like and be but the basis of it is still desperately grasping at something that keeps them soft in the face of terror which, in their own mind, is probably a rebellion to what they know. That and, I think Mai is hyper aware of her weakness. That coupled with her dissatisfaction as a sorcerer ultimately later guides her steps in the resolution of her character arc.

Hypothesis: There's a Reason Gojo is Always Pondering the Figures and Politics of Periods Long Gone

I frequently question what goes on in the mind of Satoru Gojo. He has, for all intents and purposes, all the time in the world to process and compute all the mysteries of the universe. Instead, he asks his coworkers about whether they're caught up on Jump Comics at bars. He's so unserious. But at the same time, he'll immediately follow this silliness with a deep cut like -

"Our precious present rests atop the deeds of our forebears." - Gojo Satoru

He absolutely gets clowned for his random pop culture references and, any time he calls upon a historical reference (of which he seems to be really knowledgeable about), it seems shocking to most of those around him (Shoko notwithstanding). The girls who get it know that Gojo is just as traumatized as Geto. He's just traumatized ✨🤪 where Geto is traumatized 🔪. So this veneer of goofiness belies what is ultimately a really contemplative person and one who holds a clear grievance against jujutsu elders. We know that Gojo telling Megumi about their ancestors locked in battle is obviously something that becomes a critical plot point later (hello, Sukuna showdown which we're not getting into here). It told Megumi he could have power that rivals Gojo's but it was also critical exposition for us as readers. We've also seen that Yuta, a distant, distant Gojo relative is similarly OP and this was established by his ancient connection to Gojo as well. Again, critical exposition into how things fall together when Gojo is no longer on the board. But what I'm hypothesizing is... suppose Gojo had tangential knowledge of Kenjaku this whole time? Kenjaku was clearly wary of Gojo, for good reason, but was Gojo already aware of the existence of the body snatcher? What a reveal that would be.

Hypothesis: There Are Bad Match-Ups But The Best Way To Beat a Cursed User Is With A Stronger Version Of Their Own Technique

So this isn't a comprehensive hypothesis since I know it's only half true. Por ejemplo, in the first two stories Inumaki fought a cursed speech user and Mechamaru fought a shikigami user. The victorious combatants happened to have stronger versions of the shared technique (and maybe a strategic edge). This, of course, lends to the idea that the resolution to this story may lay in the hands of Yuta Okkotsu. Okkotsu can summon immeasurable cursed energy and copy techniques. Who's gonna check him? BUT, in reality, we also know that there are also, canonically bad matchups. For instance, Yuji and Nobara are bad matchups for Mahito - Yuji's soul is protected in a sense and Nobara's technique allows her to strike spilled blood or discarded limbs/extensions of one's body to injure the main body.

We know Sukuna, at this point, is the big bad that will require taking down but we don't know how at this point. Nobara would of course be helpful given the still outstanding fingers but is tentatively off the board for now (this is a hill I will die on). But, are there other allies who haven't been revealed that will help in taking Sukuna down or will it all come down to Yuta? At this point, Gege wrote themselves into a box they are trying to course correct with the in universe power scale but I'm curious how things will fall.

Harry finds a new favorite artist and y/n is worried.

Harry is a hopeless romantic.

He loves romance novels, romcoms, and valentines day. He falls hard.

So after meeting y/n he has fallen down a rabbit hole and has not stopped listening to love songs. He is creating fake scenarios in his head about them being together and making an entirely new playlist of songs that remind him of her. He's discovered a new artist while making said playlist, who happens to have the same first name as her. Y/n y/l/n. He particularly loves her song "Feels Like" gets him in this hyped mood.

Every day, he goes and opens up the bookshop and waits for y/n to show up. She comes in with a book and a notebook, and she reads and writes in the notebook. He doesn't know what she is writing but he is sure it's wonderful. They talk to each other like they were childhood friends. He feels comfortable and happy.

He so desperately wanting to go on a date with her.

Harry just wants to know what is going on in y/ns mind. Does she like him? Is he just a friend? He is so confused.

"Hey Harry!" Y/N walks. She hears some light music in the background, it's sounds painfully familiar she just can't put her finger on it.

"Y/n! Have you eaten anything yet cause I have some croissants I'm toasting up rn?" She nods 'no', "good. Wanted to have tea with you." His face is flushed at the omission.

"What song is this?" Still not being able to recognize this song since the volume is so low.

"It's by this artist y/n y/l/n," her face drops, "she is literally amazing. Also I think it is so cool she has the same first name as you." He looks at y/n and senses she's a bit panicked. "What's wrong, you look like you saw a ghost?"

She gets the feeling she needs to tell him the truth. Y/n knows she can trust Harry.

"Harry, can I tell you something?"

"Anything." Now he's the worried one.

Y/n looks up her own name for the first time in months. She laughs a bit seeing the first search be 'Y/n Y/l/n dead?'. She opens up a picture and is faced with her old life.

"Harry?" He whispers a small 'yes?' "Do you know what Y/n Y/l/n looks like?"

"No." He hasn't been this nervous around Y/n since he met her a few weeks ago.

She shows him the picture.

"Holy. Fuckinv. Shit." He scrunched up his nose and rubbed his nose. "That's either you or a secret twin."

"That's me." She refuses to meet his eyes. "There is a long story about how this happened, but I don't want to talk about it. All I want to say right now is that I made music, it got out, and people like it." She takes a deep breath. "You can ask questions but I can't promise I'll answer them."

"Well..." Harry rubs his neck. "Why did you move here?"

"I was overwhelmed. I couldn't handle it. Too soft for all of it." She finally looks at him.

"I want to ask more, but I need to process this."

"That's all okay. I understand how all of this is too much."

Under his breath, so quiet he thinks she can't hear. "You're just perfect."

Past Hope(Visual Novel)

I actually was in the middle of translating this game but then someone beat me to it, so my work here is done lol. All jokes aside, this game is pretty neat because the yandere involved and the relationship with the MC is pretty twisted, at least compared to other yandere VNs that I've played, especially since the MC is not a good person at all, which means they match pretty well with Hoshino.

The story starts with the MC confessing their love to Hoshino at the rooftop. Initially, it seems like a romantic scene, but the MC denies it as such, as they have been bullying Hoshino every day and has been doing this as a dare. The MC expects Hoshino to reject their confession, but he accepts it instead asking when their next date is. We learn that Hoshino hardly went to school anymore, and that the MC started bullying him, leading to the other students in the school to do the same. After telling the others the result of the confession (whether lying, changing the subject or telling the truth) the MC can then either go to the date location or ignore it and go home.

If they ignore it and go home, the MC will instead get a phone call from their mother. Answering it reveals that the MC's mother seems very controlling and angry about the fact that they ran away and that they aren't taking their medicine. In the end, the MC believes that they will always end up like their mother as they are of blood, and can either tell her off or hang up. Hoshino also calls around the same time, and when we read his text, we find out he is waiting for them at their date location. Upon going home, the MC ends up fainting due to the fact they hadn't been taking their medicine but ends up lying on their bed instead when they wake up. Upon checking their phone, they find pictures of them in their daily life, with different captions- walking home from school, not sleeping well, and the last picture is of them laying on the bed. The MC finds a knife in their hands covered with blood and follows the blood trail. Slowly, the MC looks under the bed to find Hoshino laying there covered in his own blood, dying. Hoshino had apparently followed the MC home and was going to kill them after they watched them pass out, as a way of revenge or to put the MC out of their misery. Hoshino hesitates and instead makes the MC stab him with the knife. Happy that the MC will never be able to get the image of his dying body out of their head, Hoshino crawls under the bed to die.

If the MC does decide to go to the date spot, he sees Hoshino writing something at the library. They can either decide to interrupt him or to wait for him to finish reading.

Interrupting Hoshino will cause him to nearly attack the MC reflexively. Due to the ruckus, Hoshino and the MC have to apologize to the librarian and decides to walk together. Hoshino and the MC talk about how the two met, when the MC ran out during the rain and was saved by Hoshino. While walking back to Hoshino's place, the MC recalls Hoshino's history. While Hoshino's parents died when he was younger, he was taken in by his uncle and aunt, and had a fairly happy life. However, due to hardships, the uncle and aunt got sucked into a cult and ended up divorcing. While with his aunt, Hoshino's uncle ended up getting sucked back into the cult and coming over to kill the aunt, leading to the MC rescuing Hoshino. With his aunt dead and his uncle in jail, Hoshino now lives by himself. While hanging out in Hoshino's place, the MC is knocked out by Hoshino and brought to the attic (at least, it looks like an attic). Regardless of reaction, Hoshino will get angry that the MC hasn't been taking their medication and wants to die. Hoshino is angry because he though the personality change was due to the medication, and instead starts to slice at Hoshino with a knife as revenge for their bullying. Hoshino ends up killing the MC and afterwards starts crying, and it's implied that he ends his life as well.

If the MC decides to wait for Hoshino to finish writing, they'll will start reading the little match girl. Upon finishing, Hoshino asks if they think the little match girl's ending was happy or not. Hoshino will be happy if they respond that the little match girl's ending is happy and be a bit disappointed if they say it's sad. The above happens, but instead of being brought to the attic, Hoshino will make the MC a drink where they can respond to how the taste is like. If the MC chooses Sweet or Strong, it will lead to Hoshino asking the MC if they want to go star watching, something that they used to do when they were small. When going up to the attic, the MC gets attacked by someone who was stuffed in the closet, the uncle. Hoshino starts to beat up the uncle, killing him, while the MC watches. The MC can either feel excited or nothing, leading to the option of asking why he killed the uncle or simply punching him.

If the MC decides to punch Hoshino, he starts to whimper, begging the MC, telling them that they are their only reason for living. The MC continues to punch Hoshino. Hoshino seems to have been jealous of the MC, but lives for them as well, stating that he only has them left. As the MC continues to punch him, Hoshino rationalizes the reason that they abuse him is because we love him so so much. The MC accepts this stating that the two will be together forever, so as long as he only looks at them. Hoshino seems to be mindbroken. Despite how much he's been abused, Hoshino continues to cling onto the MC, growing masochistic tendencies as he believes that the MC's abuse is a sign of their love for him.

If the MC decides to ask Hoshino, he will ask him what they should do with the body, whether they should hide the body or not. Hoshino will also beg for the MC, stating that their only reason for living is them. The MC seems to accept this, stating that they were the one who caused him to be like this, that they had finally created a monster that could only rely on them. Amongst all of this, the MC ends up accidentally confessing to Hoshino. Flustered by this, they run away back under the bridge where they first met. There is a flashback to how Hoshino saved them when they ran away from home.

In the true ending, the MC and Hoshino seemingly go back to school, having all worked out. The two seem happy together, but it all turns out it's a fruitless dream the MC wants. In reality, the two are intertwined, seemingly losing themselves and Hoshino, forcibly two horrible people who deserve each other.

I gotta say, despite knowing that the MC was kind of a horrible person, I didn't realize to the extent of how far they went to hurt Hoshino and it's pretty great. I very rarely see MCs that are just mean towards their yandere counterpart, or are just bad people (unless it's a BL-for some reason), so it's actually really nice to see an MC that basically turned Hoshino into what he is now, which is something I always would like to see more. We see that it's something that they gain from their mom, who seemed to love their dad more than they love their own child- extremely depressing. Hurting Hoshino was a way to keep control over him and to push over any stress they have, despite the two being childhood friends. It would have been really easy for Hoshino to snap so easily, but his infatuation with the MC was what kept them alive. The MC themselves also realize that they are a horrible person-refusing to take their medication because of their crippling self hatred for themselves. It is a bit sad that it ended up like this since the two of them seemed really close when they were younger, but alas, you can't have a yandere sometimes without breaking a few eggs. Plus, I liked the ending where the MC just beats Hoshino up and turns him into a masochist. It's such a broken ending with a broken yandere and boy is that fun to see. Sometimes you just have two broken people who are meant for each other.

Hoshino as a yandere is interesting. He had a turbulent childhood (though I'll be honest, I thought he was just simply abused, not that his uncle and aunt were indoctrinated into a CULT of all things) with the MC as his only safe rock. It must have been a real shock when he realized that the MC started to bully him. I am surprised that Hoshino kind of just took the brunt of it- the reasons he gets mad seemed to be that it was either A. the only way for him to get any attention from the MC B. This is how he recognized the MC's love this manner or C. That the medication is what caused the MC to change their personality. He does seem to be angry and vengeful at some points, don't get me wrong, since he does actually try to or successfully does kill the MC in two of the endings, but both times he's very reluctant about it and dies afterwards by his own hand- a sign of regret perhaps or the idea that he can't live without them anyways. Similarly to the MC, he seems to have suicidal tendencies as well, as he calls the ending of the Little Match Girl happy since she can finally be free of the burdens of this world- pretty morbid. Depending on the ending, Hoshino could also become a more masochistic, accepting his fate of being hurt by the MC as how they gain attention from them. It is kind of a weird thing to have a yandere do, since most of the time they tend to retaliate if their darling gets violent or struggles against them, but Hoshino... doesn't. He kind of just... accepts his fate. He's not even particularly happy or necessarily helpless in the situation since it is obvious that he could kill the MC at any time given the various ways that he stalks them. It's probably because Hoshino is trying to rationalize why the MC might be doing this, since it seemed that at least until the point where he was bullied by them, the MC had saved Hoshino a couple of times before- most notably when he was almost killed with his aunt. I guess the best explanation is simply that he could not live without the MC at that point, so he could only take whatever the MC gave him- even if it hurt.

I will say that it's nice that the two characters don't have a nice ending. Neither of them are good people and it would be very difficult to suddenly have this redemption arc in the middle of it all or it wouldn't make any sense. Plus the entire thing seems pretty pessimistic from the start- there's simply no way for these two to make each other better because of what they've gone through.

Overall, Past Hope is good game. It's pretty different from a lot of other yandere visual novels I've played with a different point of view. I think that some of the endings seem a bit strange or fast, but overall, it was a fun play. If you are interested please check it out. Maybe one day someone (or I) will translate the other game that they have about a weirdly cannibalistic pink haired rabbit boy.

Bus Stop Meet Cute

Pairing: Jin X Reader; Fluff

Summary: You're known for always having your head in the clouds, dreaming yourself a better life. One day you try to make your dreams a reality by doing something extremely out of character.

Author's Note: This is my personal favorites of all of my old writings, I also think this is the only one of the old ones that I wrote sober, so that checks out.

Warnings: I don't think any? Let me know if you think there should be. It's mainly just fluff?

Love Story by Suran plays in your headphones while you stare out the window. You watch all the people pass by as you smile. This was your favorite part of the day. You had just gotten off of work at the cafe you work at, and now you get to people watch on the bus ride home.

You often look at the people who are passing by and create little stories of their lives. Your mother always told you that it wasn’t healthy how much you daydream. Maybe she’s right, but it was your escape. You wanted to be a writer, but until you finish your novel, you need to continue to pay your bills. Working a full time job makes it hard to write, so you have to find time when you can.

You see a woman in a beautiful pale blue dress and you start writing a story in your head about how she is about to go on a date with the man of her dreams. You imagine how they met, what may have kept them apart, and how they finally got together. You smile at the nice ending that you gave the stranger, but soon frown, you feel a longing to have your own love story. These things don’t really happen in real life.

You search for your next stranger, when your eyes fall on him. A tall and handsome man sitting at the bus stop. He has headphones in and is reading a book. You note his great sense of fashion, he is wearing a deep greet turtleneck with a houndstooth coat and dark wash jeans. He has hair hangs in his face a little bit, but you can still see that he is extremely attractive.

You feel the bus coming to a stop and your window stops right in front of him. He looks up and makes eye contact with you. He gives a small smile and a nod and continues to stare at you. Your stomach fills with butterflies and your knees feel weak. You give him a wave with a slight smile. He gives a small laugh, goodness, you would pay to hear that laugh. But it doesn’t seem that he is necessarily getting on at this stop. You decide to do something a little risky.

You open your window.

He looks at you and you both take out one of your ear buds.

‘Is this your bus?” You ask him with a nervous smile.

“It can be.” He replies with a raised eyebrow and a grin. He then walks away from the pole he was leaning against and gets on the bus. As he walks towards your seat you begin to feel your heartbeat faster. You put your things away in your bag and make room on the seat next to you. He sits down next to you and you can smell his cologne. He turns to you and holds out his hand.

“Hi, I’m Kim Seokjin, but you can just call me Jin.” He states.

“Hello, I’m ____. Very nice to meet you.” You blush as you shake his hand. It’s very warm and it lights your soul. This isn’t some made up story in your head. This is real. This is happening.

“So where are we headed?” He asks with a small chuckle.

“We are going to a book store actually, then maybe dinner?” You say with a small question mark at the end.

Wow, where is this confidence is suddenly coming from? you ask yourself.

“Sounds great.” He says as he continues to look at you with a smile. You both continue to make conversation. You learn that he runs a publishing company, and he was actually just heading to a book store himself. It was almost like it was fate. You loved the way he laughed, while others may find it weird, you found it cute.

When you both reached the stop you continued on to the bookstore.

You show him your favorite novel, and he shows you a poetry book. You guys could’ve spent hours in that store, getting to know each other and talking about books and stories. He had so many cute little quirks, like when he got really passionate about something he talked quicker. Eventually you guys check out and he surprises you by paying for your books. You thank him and you let him pick the place to eat.

He picked a restaurant that served naengmyeon. You guys eat and talk. You can’t stop smiling. He really is a dream. You have to pinch yourself to tell your self this is real.

“Are you ok?” He asks afterwards.

“Yeah, of course. I just am convincing myself that all of this is real.” You say with a small laugh.

“Do you often find yourself imagining things?” He said poking fun at you. You laugh.

“Well no and yes. I don’t hallucinate or anything, but I do often enjoy creating scenarios in my head. My mom has always told me that my overactive imagination would be bad for me and one day I would begin to believe my stories are real. I guess all of this seems too good to be true… You seem too good to be true.” You say while fiddling with your hands. He rests his hands on yours and you look up at him.

“I can promise you I am as real as it gets.” He says with a comforting smile. You smile back to him and hold his hand. Hoping that this lasts forever.

~ time jump - 5 years later ~

You stand on the podium looking out to the sea of people staring back at you. You begin to read the pages from your book.

“Soft love songs play in her headphones while she lazily daydreams out of the window. She quietly envies the people that pass by. She longed for a life with interest. She longed to shed her tedious job at the cafe. She longed to have romance in her life.

As if she spoke it into the universe her eyes landed on the most handsome man she had ever seen. A man that radiated the confidence she had longed for. While the bus comes to a stop their eyes meet. They can feel the chemistry grow as they continue to stare at each other. Almost as if she had absorbed some of him through this limited contact, she opens the window.

‘Is this your bus?’ She asks with a nervous smile and a tight chest. He looks up at her with a smirk.

‘It can be.’ He replies before getting onto the bus.” You close the book while the crowd claps.

“I want to thank you all for supporting me. This is my third book, and I have been thankful everyday that you guys have enjoyed my stories. They have always been my comfort, my escape from a dull life. Although you may not know, that my most recent novel isn’t just a story. It’s something that happened to me. This novel was inspired by the meeting of my very own partner and publisher, Kim Seokjin.” You say while holding your arm out to the back corner of your room. You make eye contact with your husband, Jin. He smiles and gives small bows as people turn to look at him and clap.

“Of course there are differences, but I had to write a story about how we met. My life changed from dull to exciting the day our eyes connected on that bus. His company was small, and I was an unknown writer, but people were, thankfully, drawn to my novel. I wouldn’t have had the strength to finish that story without him. He has kept me going for so long, and I owe everything I have to him. I love you my darling.” You say with tears welling in your eyes.

He gives you a heartfelt nod and mouths an ‘I Love You’ back. You continue to talk about your book. You take some questions and sometimes making eye contact with Jin and feeling a burst of warmth shoot through your veins.

After the book reading, you were talking one on one with your fans. You feel a hand snake around your waist and look up to see your beautiful husband.

“Excuse me, I don’t mean to interrupt your conversation, but we have a very important meeting to get to.” Your husband says as you both take your leave.

You sit in the car as he drives. You stare at him as you hear a familiar song by Suran play. He rests a hand on your leg facing up, a request for you to hold his hand. You accept of course.

You guys pull up to the very same noodle place you had come to the night you had met. You enjoy a nice bowl of naengmyeon with your husband as you both talk about the current books you are reading. You will always thank fate for that day you had two met at the bus. You will always thank the universe for giving you the courage to open your window and talk to him. You will always thank Kim Seokjin for getting on that bus and never leaving your side since.

“Happy anniversary baby 💕”
