honestly the gwen vs mj as peter's love interest debate is so dumb, not just bc ship wars in general are cringe, but bc like... theyre not really comparable? like peter loved gwen and she's incredibly important to the spider-man mythos but. they werent. together that long. in the scheme of things. like gwen was in less than 100 issues before she died, and yeah, she's been brought back in various ways since then, but she's never been like... fully a couple with peter again. whereas peter and mj were romantically involved for literal decades. sometimes they were on and off, esp more recently, but mj was still often present in peter's life, and they just have so much more history and content about them. like if there's going to be a love interest rivalry for peter, it makes more sense for it to be mj vs felicia, not mj vs gwen. which there is plenty of discussion about, too, so i just find it odd that so many people still focus on petergwen so much like... what are you even rooting for here. they havent been a couple since the literal 70s.

the answer to this is actually not in spidey, it's this one klance server i was in back in ye old voltron days that was absolutely horrible to exist in as an Allura lover/Allurance shipper. when she died, and klance didn't become canon (because it was never going to), things got nasty and i will freely admit i am still bitter about it! nothing made me dislike klance faster or more thoroughly than klance fans.

6. which ship fans are the most annoying?

anyone with a Tony Stark ship, really, though obviously the one I see the most nonsense from is irondad. Tony fans are, 90% of the time, there for Tony, and really focus on him to the exclusion of any of the other characters, including the one that he is partnered/shipped with. as someone who writes for and interacts with irondad because i love both Tony and Peter, who wants to explore them and their extended universes, it fucking sucks to have to wade through post after post that grossly misrepresents or misinterprets Tony, and treats Peter as a prop more than a character.

7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?

having said the above: Tony Stark you will always be famous! none of these people who pretend you're a soft uwu dad who's never done anything wrong could make me hate you, because that's NOT you!

i don't know there are any characters i "hate" per se, but certainly there are ones i will AVOID because the fandom is so terrible. in Spidey, though he's not a Spidey character, that's Harley Keener. i have zero feelings toward his canon character because he was a child and then an easter egg, and basically has no canon character. but i will avoid him at all costs in fic/tumblr tags, because his fans use him to completely supplant and erase actual Spider-Man characters, like Ned and MJ and Flash.

8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

MJ WATSON WOULD NOT WORSHIP PEPPER POTTS ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME

MJ "i want to get a little light protesting in before lunch" Watson, MJ "so really this is all your fault" Watson, MJ "i don't want to tour a building made by slaves" Watson would NOT be falling over herself to talk about how "cool" Pepper Potts is.

fandom loves to drop MJ into interactions with Tony where she's snarky and rude and makes "eat the rich" jokes. but then they'll turn around and also make her look up to Pepper as a girl boss.

and it's because people's aren't representing her as anti-billionaire or anti-establishment as a genuine reflection on her character and how she might behave meeting Tony Stark or Pepper Potts. she's an audience avatar to spout a couple memes and jokes, then is unceremoniously shuffled off stage left so that Tony and Peter can cuddle on the couch or whatever. it's about making Tony look cool and chill for "putting up" with her, and to make Peter embarrassed so that Tony can reassure him.

9. worst part of canon

Far From Home, beloathed. its sins are innumerable but to sum them up in as concise of terms as possible: it represents so much wasted potential. we could have had post-blip meta! we could have had the FOS as more than a joke! we could have had actual development of the petermj relationship! and yes we could have had an actual examination of the impact of Tony Stark and his legacy on Peter and his life!

instead we got a kidz bop european road trip movie and only head fakes to anything deeper going on between any of the characters

10. worst part of fanon

here's the thing: the idea of a community of people coming together to collaboratively fill in the blanks of a piece of art is, conceptually, beautiful, and exactly what fandom should be about. doing collaborative, generative creative work is genuinely valuable, and an important part of community building in creative spaces.

but the relationship that people have to fanon, is, frankly, completely fucking whack. modern fandom doesn't use fanon to generate collaborative and creative elaborations, variations, and interpretations of canon: they use it to supplant canon. popular fanon goes beyond being just an idea that a lot of people like; it starts being treated as law. people start interpreting canon through the lens of fanon, and in doing so treat the canonical text not as a work of art that deserves consideration and interpretation, but as a static and authoritative source whose purpose is to be excavated for "proof" of fanon, and anything that exists outside of fanon or in opposition to it is to be dismissed, ignored, and denied.

there are plenty of people who will happily admit they don't pay attention to canon and prefer fanon, and while that isn't my preferred way to engage with art, i have way less of a problem with that. people who engage with the original work through a fanon lens first, in an attempt to "prove" fanon, aren't seeking alternative interpretations or elaborating on the art. they're not even picking and choosing the things they like and the things they don't. what they are doing is working backwards from a foregone conclusion to pretend like art has one fixed, immutable interpretation, and that interpretation is the only correct or acceptable one.

the only proof you need of this tendency is the way people lose their fucking minds when you question popular fanon, or, god forbid, point out how it is directly contradicted or disproven by canon. it's a shitty way to engage with fandom as a community, and it's a shitty way to engage with art, and i have no patience for it.

You would think but I unfortunately also search the PeterMJ, Peterfel, Petergwen and platonic tags and STILL get psychic damage because people either cannot be normal about having multiple loves (cheating and miscommunication my beloathed), weird anti-comic sentiment that makes little sense and has little appeal to me, or a deluge of chatfics.

One of the best parts of being in fandom is getting to READ, not just write but sometimes I’m Worried about asking for recs because I have such specific tastes. Alas.

In a live event full of Spider-Man comics fans, they teased whether they wanted to see PeterMJ back together and it sure seemed like everyone cheered only for the staff to pull the rug out from under them. If feels misogynistic, it feels childish, it feels anti-Peter Parker, and overall it’s objectively just really bad writing.

PeterMJ remained special for decades because despite the inconsistency of the comic world, their relationship stayed strong and true to their characters. They spent a long miserable time trying to separate them only for them to be pulled together again. Now it seems like they’ve gotten more locks for their pathetic schemes. The separation won’t last forever but it does seem like this cycle of separation and coming together will go on indefinitely.

I don’t need any hate form individuals, but I do wish most of you Marvel Comic fans out there will stop enabling their disrespect for fans by halting to buy anything for my his run any further.

The only way to hurt them back is in sales. Also would help to review bomb this run.

i headcanon steve rogers as bisexual, and mcu!bucky as gay (in terms of comics!bucky barnes, i could see him as more ambiguously MLM or bi). i consider myself a multishipper, with my main ships being stevebucky and samsteve, however i love love love samstevebucky (or stevesambucky ????), and enjoy others such as winterhawk, sambucky, clintasha, carolmaria, petermj, and sammisty too !! typically, i tend to only write for the first three but i enjoy fanfic and fanart for all of them. cartinelli also has a lot of nostalgia (and other more painful emotions) associated with it so there might be some of that on here in my older posts if you go through those tags. also i have three captain america ocs from my works a winter in the sun + a summer in new york: stepan, dani, and (bu)chanan, who appear on here from time to time.

I really don't think that there are many timdayas. There are anybody-but-Tom Z people just like there are anybody-but-Z Tom stans. These are the people that ship Z with absolutely anyone that's not Tom (Zac Efron, Hunter, JDW, Timmy, JE, etc) or ship Tom with anyone that's not Z (Ella Purnell, Daisy Ridley, Eliza Scanlen, Ciara, Sophia Ali, Emma Laird, Olivia, Nadia, Florence, random fans that took pics with him, etc). They don't really support these other ships. They just want Tom & Z to break up

Then there are people that ship fictional couples and not really real life people. So we have people that ship petermj but also petergwen and spideycat. There are people that really enjoyed chemily even though they were so toxic for each other for most of the story. And here we have people that really like Paul/Chani because Paul loves Chani despite having to marry the daughter of the Emperor and he refused to sleep with his legal wife because his body and soul belonged to Chani. Are there toxic elements with Paul & Chani? Certainly! Paul knew that he was selfish picking Chani because he knew she would prematurely die if she had his children and he didn't reveal that to Chani. But he suffered the consequences of his actions. I think it's ok to let people enjoy their fictional ships

A lot of these Timdaya shippers are just antis in sheep's clothing imo, because if they were REALLY fans of either Tom OR Zendaya, they would respect their rlshp, and not be shipping Zendaya (or Tom) with someone else, or reading so hard into simple FRIENDSHIP gestures, or lurking on blogs that support Tomdaya together and sending anti-Tomdaya rhetoric.

So basically,here's why Miles and Peter B worked and Spiderson and Irondad and all those 'Batman adopts [crossover kid]' stories don't:

Peter B didn't overshadow Miles-Yes,he's a vital part of his character and had a lot of screentime too but Spiderverse is always MILES' MOVIES.Peter B was not his co-star but his mentor so they didn't share the spotlight and this was a wise choice on the writers part because it would be very unfair on black superhero fans to claim it as Miles' debut only for it to be another Peter Parker movie(Wayne Family Adventures:Take notes)

While yes,Peter B was lowkey an asshole in the beginning,he was never outright cruel.He was literally just snarky and bitter and Miles snarked back at him so they were equals instead of a grown ass man picking on a lil boy and being rewarded for it

Jefferson and Rio weren't demonized or downplayed to prop Peter B up-They got plenty of time with Miles too and it's very clear that while Peter B acts like a parental figure to Miles,Miles views Jeffrio as his only parents while Peter B is more like his way older brother that defaults to acting like a dad due to their age difference(Speaking from the experience of an adult with only kid siblings and a good amount of teen friends that i've gotten close enough to consider we consider eachother siblings too,this is 100000% accurate to how it works)

Peter B dosen't baby Miles-He just teaches him the best he can but believes in him enough to try things out for himself and do his own thing so he's a genuinely good teacher for him in addition to a positive adult figure like his parents and Uncle Aaron but again,they're not blood related and they both act that way and that is appropriate due to the differences in their heritage(Peter B a white jewish person/Miles an afrolatino person.Again,realistic rep and i'm Miles this time)

Peter B also genuinely cares about Miles feelings and thinks extremely positively of him as a person instead of just another crime fighter and provides him comfort and safety instead of traumadumping all over to him and placing the responsibility of caretaker on him like a discord mod LMFAO

soooo someone sent me an ask saying that they didn't get the appeal of peter/felicia and asking if i could explain? like in a genuine nice way. and i started typing out a whole answer and then briefly saved it as a draft and then. somehow lost it rip. fuck tumblr. so i'm gonna try to recreate my answer but it got long lol sorry

so i gotta preface this by saying, i'm not a felicia expert, i like her a lot but there's plenty of her stuff i haven't read. and also i am a petermj truther at heart, i think they're soulmates lol. i don't necessarily see peter and felicia as a like an endgame, happily-ever-after kind of couple. but i do enjoy peterfelicia, and also feliciamj and peterfeliciamj, my ideal throuple lol.

but for peterfelicia: i mean for me i do think they just have good chemistry, which i find hard to put into words. but i can't lie i also think a big part of the appeal is their circumstances, like peter as a superhero and felicia as a cat burglar/criminal. it gives them a whole enemies to lovers vibe, except for a bit more lighthearted bc they're both fun people and felicia doesn't like. actually try to harm people. and i like how that kind of keeps them at odds with each other, but also they really click in other ways. they're both fun and humorous and genuinely have some shared values. they're def not perfect as a couple and have issues but they do enjoy each other, like it's not just based on physical attraction, and on occasions where they have to work together, as a couple or not, i think they work well bc they get each other's motives and know each other's moves.

but also, i just like felicia as a character? like once she broke away from just spider-man stories and started appearing in other marvel stuff and getting her own story arcs, she really developed and became a complex, loveable character. she's flirty and fun, she's a bit selfish, she has a kind of rough background, she can be bitter and mean when hurt, but she's not cruel and she does help people sometimes. she's been around since the 70s so she has a long history i can't totally keep track of but she has bounced between being a criminal and an anti-hero a lot, without losing her core values. she has a good heart but she still enjoys the rush of stealing and doesn't feel super guilty about it. tbh felicia does read as just the marvel ripoff as catwoman in a lot of ways, but honestly i kind of like her better, i think she has a lot of layers. which helps me like peterfelicia, bc i think when both characters are well-developed, it makes their romantic relationship more compelling and believable. and i also think felicia and peter bring out interesting sides of each other, she makes him a bit more playful, he reminds her she can do good things. even when they're not a couple or even flirting they have a strong relationship.

(also i kind of got the vibe that this ask was in response to my petergwen critical post, which has been gaining some traction recently, and i want to reiterate i have nothing against petergwen, i think they're fine. i just think peterfelicia have a bit more complexity that makes them interesting- again, partially bc peter and gwen weren't a couple for that long before her death, and after that, their whole relationship is marred by tragedy and guilt. whereas peter and felicia have decades of history, they've been on-off a few times, they've seen each other through some rough periods, they've worked together platonically and even connected as civilians. they were never like a totally solid couple the way peter and mj were for many years, but that also makes them interesting, bc it's a different sort of relationship dynamic that we see for peter.)
