Lovebug (Plecia nearctica)

Distribution: Native to Central America and the Southeastern USA (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Texas). Most common in Texas and Louisiana.

Habitat: Can be found in almost all habitats, but most common in grassy areas; most common around fresh-cut lawns, animal pastures and areas with decaying vegetation. Found at altitudes of over 450 metres.

Diet: Larvae feed on decaying vegetation; adults feed on the nectar of plants such as sweet clover, goldenrod and Brazilian pepper.

Description: This insect is called the lovebug because mated pairs often stay together for days at a time during and after mating, with flights of mating lovebugs sometimes numbering into the millions. These flights can be quite a nuisance to drivers, as they easily splatter onto windshields and hoods at highway speeds. The acidic body chemistry of dead bugs, left for even just a handful of hours, makes them incredibly difficult to scrape off car parts; what's more, they also have a tendency to cause pits in automotive paint when left untouched for too long, or can cause radiators to overheat. Because they're attracted to fresh paint, lovebug corpses are also a common sight in the dried paint on buildings.

There is many myths surrounding lovebugs, perhaps due to how common they are. One myth claims that these insects were genetically engineered by the University of Florida in order to control mosquito populations (disregarding the fact that they're herbivorous, and thus would make poor pest control!). Another myth claims that lovebugs escaped from the University of Florida after being transported there by scientists; while their original range includes only Louisiana and Mississippi, populations naturally spread north- and southward. For some reason, this insect has many University of Florida-related conspiracies!

This species of trifolium is not native to the United States, its native range is in Europe and Western Asia, but it has now been introduced in some areas of the US due to being grown for fodder and escaping. However, it's not yet listed as an invasive species here.

I love love love nationality headcanons, they're so fun to think of!! A reminder that these are my headcanons, I'm not here to start arguments. If anything does come across as offensive/innapropriate please let me know! I'll gladly fix it :)

For the most part, I based the Twst Character's nationalities off of where their stories take place (I'm not all that skilled in headcanons, apologies!!)

Heartslabyul

Riddle Rosehearts: Icelandic/Britsh

I have him as Icelandic purely because of LeafSheep's "Begin at the Beginning," the King Said!! Nordic Heartslabyul has my heart. and ofc since Heartslabyul is based on Alice in Wonderland, he's half-British in my headcanons

Ace Trappola: British

Alice in Wonderland :)

I don't have much to say about Ace, I kinda don't think about him all that much

Deuce Spade: Irish

In coming up with nationality headcanons, I wanted to explore more areas in the British Isles for the Heartslabyul students and eventually decided on Deuce being Irish! I had more reasonings but its 5 am and I cannot think for the love of me.

Cater Diamond: American with English/German heritage

I see myself in Cater. He's one of my highest kins, so he's 100% from West Coast USA. It also makes a lot of sense he'd be American looking at how similar some nations in the Twisted Wonderland universe are to nations in our own world! Pyroxene is really similar to the United States from what I've researched, and Cater's valley accent in the English version of the game really hits the mark :)

As for his heritage, he's English because of Alice in Wonderland and German because I feel it fits him very well

Trey Clover: British

I don't think about Trey often enough sorry :(((

I love him though he's so silly

Savanaclaw

Leona Kingscholar: Kenyan

The Lion King takes place in the Kenya area, and so I put him there!

Jack Howl: American with Kenyan/French heritage

Another Pyroxien!

Kenyan because Savanaclaw was based on the Lion King and that's set in Kenya

French because I have a sneaking suspicion Jack is based on the wolves from Beauty and the Beast

Ruggie: South African

Ruggie was hard to find a headcanon for, but I eventually just took someone else's headcanon that said he is South African

Octavinelle

Azul Ashengrotto: Italian/French/Danish

All come from where the Little Mermaid is set in both the movie form and the Hans Christian Andersen form. The movie itself was set in the Mediterranean Sea, and I headcanon Azul's family to be from around the Nice, France area of the Mediterranean

Danish comes into play from the original source material for The Little Mermaid and the fact that the Coral Sea in Twst gets cold. Also to note, the Coral Sea on the map of Twisted Wonderland is close to the coast of the Queendom of Roses, which is pretty far north!

Jade and Floyd Leech: Danish

Putting these two together because twins

Pretty much the same reasonings as Azul, the book's settings and the Coral Sea :)

Scarabia

Kalim Al-Asim: Saudi Arabian

I'm going to be so honest, I don't think about Scarabia like... at all. So for Kalim, I'm going straight out of where Aladdin is supposed to be set

That also came as a problem, because the movie has a habit of mashing Middle Eastern cultures together. Though I did find that the movie takes place in the Arabian Desert which narrows where Aladdin was filmed to a myriad of countries, one of which is Saudi Arabia

I decided to go with Saudi Arabia since a majority of the desert does reside within that country.

Jamil Viper: Saudi Arabian/South Asian

Same thing as for my headcanons with Kalim, and I got the South Asian headcanon from a mutual on TikTok

Vil Schoenheit: American with German heritage

Hollywood star here, folks!

It's actually a variant form of canadian french, spoken in the east of the country. It's honestly pretty cool sounding, and sadly not valued enough. Momoiro Clover started as a fairly standard jpop idol group back in 2008 (I've been following them since then, it has been a while lol). In the following years, one of their members decided to leave to pursue an acting career instead. And it was for the BEST, they're aliens in the idol world, including the fact that some members are pushing 30 now! Their style is mostly back to normal nowadays, but they've still produced gems

Her full name is Sandra Elizabeth Fitzpatrick or Liz, Lizzy, Sandy, Lucky

Military Nicknames/Callsigns: Shadow 7-77, Lucky, Peaches

Sandra is a military sniper for the Shadow Company (Small girl Big Gun!!!). She usually just wears Shadow Company uniform, Helmet, face mask, and tinted eye protection.

Personality: A bubbly gremlin, optimistic, cuddly, is short acts short(5’3), info dumps on anyone and everyone(Even the commander sometimes)

BACKGROUND!!!!!: She was born in Georgia, USA. Her father was born in Ireland while her mother was born and raised in Georgia. She grew up on a peach farm in the countryside. Her family likes buying lottery tickets every now and then. Sandra wanted to scratch one and ended up winning the lottery as a young child. It wasn’t a big lottery, but her family started calling her Lucky or four leaf clover. Her Papa liked hunting and occasionally took her and her siblings out which is where she learned how to use a rifle. She took to guns like a duck to water. Her grades weren’t the best so in the end she decided to join the military instead of college (AMERICA RAHHHH🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅). She eventually got recruited (Cough Cough stolen) by Graves into the Shadow Company.

Silly little facts:

Occasionally climbs people like a tree and perches on their shoulder to get a higher ground. It got so common that some of her taller teammates got an accessory on their armor that provided her with a more steady and flat place to perch.

After leave when she goes back to visit her family she’ll bring home crates of peaches for the company. Only the best and sweetest peaches make their way into those crates and she personally picks out the peaches herself straight from the trees. (Reason for the nickname peaches)

There are a ton of links coming, so the questions first. For one, Aliexpress and Ebay are horrible sources to get BJDs, because 99,9% of dolls there are bootlegs, also known as recasts. They're basically illegally made copies of original dolls. While in the past recasters tried to pass their dolls as 'the real deal' from the company (just extremely cheap), nowadays, they're giving the dolls new names and are selling them under their own 'company name'. Don't be fooled. They're still copies. There are a few very good BJD facebook groups, like BJD Addict or BJD Lovers, where you could ask for help to identify a recast listing.

If you're looking for dragons specifically, Dreamvalley is releasing dragons once in a while and for events (like 2 to 3 times a year). You can get them via any of the dealers I've linked below.

Most of the dragons I own are made by Cuartodolls who is (was?) a russian doll artist that went completely silent in 2022. Her page got shut down. Even before the whole Ukraine War, she was hard to get ahold off... I'm currently only consider selling my Cuartodolls Ketar, but he originally was 1500$, so he's not really suited to be starter doll :,D

Ah, c'mon. Female characters are only ever hated when they're poorly written. If they were male, they'd be just as hated. Calling anybody sexist is such a reach.

I mean, you really think that the likes of Team RWBY would be more liked if they were guys? Qrow? Ironwood? Got any solid examples? All I see from you lot is a bunch of accusations and hypotheticals.

C'mon. The FNDM's maddening but real bigots are few and far between.

Let me give you three examples of sexism from the RWBY Critics. And let me remind you that both men and women can be misogynists. The Republican Party of the USA is sure proof of that.

Now that we have the proof of RWBY Critics being nasty sexists out of the way. Let me go over Yang Xiao Long, since most straightshippers and rwby bashers love to hate on Yang.

Critics gnoring the fact that she losed a arm, got PTSD for like 3 volumes, saving the world from a immortal being. Edit: She's just not 24 hours all happy girl anymore like in the volumes 1-3….nobody is anymore after everything that happened. Because taking world ending stakes seriously, and not constantly being quippy doesn’t mean that someone is no longer fun. No, no, don't look at Yang pranking Nora during their arm wrestling match, making jokes about getting reward money for Weiss, or doing stunts on a hover bike. Giggling about Adrian? Pranking Penny with her arm? Joking about crashing the Schnee Party? RWBY Critics: Yang is no longer fun, she’s a Karen! Basically, critics have to ignore/forget/deny ANYTHING that disagrees with their negative views of women. If these people can't even understand a character after showing all his background, trauma and way of thinking, imagining understanding a real person you know nothing about. But seriously, things are less fun in general. Like, yeah V1-3 were school fun-times where the characters weren't even aware of the world ending threat working behind the scenes. Now they are, and they're trying to stop it, things are going to be less fun. Want an example of how Critics pretend to be blind and deaf? Adam Taurus: Introduced trying to blow up a train of passengers. Blake Belladonna: Introduced trying to stop him, and then joins Beacon, hoping to change the system from within. Volume 2: Adam literally tells Cinder that he finds his followers expendable. Blake is opening up to Yang and becomes more and more happy. RWBY Critics: Blake manipulated Adam, Blake is the reason Adam is evil, Blake should have saved Adam, Adam should have killed Blake. Yeah, I’d call that sexism. Let’s cover Robyn Hill

I’ve got some memes just for this But somehow Robyn is an evil terrorist? And Ironwood is somehow the savior? Ironwood, who constantly demands trust and talks about making difficult decisions while : A) repeatedly forbidding penny to have any friends and having her as a project done behind everyone’s back? B) Holding more government power than any other Council Member, and forbidding anyone not part of his military from being allowed to defend themselves or carry weapons (volume 7 chapter 2, clover ignoring Qrow’s license) C) Going behind Ozpin’s back to get the council to fire him for not giving James what he wants? D) Threatening Jacques and telling him to get on James’ good side while declaring closed borders WITHOUT the council’s permission? Threatening a civilian while declaring HIMSELF the council? E) That mech was put in Argus WITHOUT the people’s awareness or permission. Ironwood then installed a racist megalomaniac because she was fanatically loyal to him. But any woman standing against is immediately considered a war criminal? So yeah, the hatedom? Is misogynistic. I keep seeing men and women talking about how they want the female characters in RWBY to suffer. I keep seeing them throw slurs at fictional characters and towards the writers. If you don’t have anything respectful to say about the show unless it involves pushing cis white male OC/MC fanfics and talking about how your ideas are superior? Or you wanna talk about porn? Then you have nothing to contribute but Hatred, and you shouldn’t contribute at all.

Great Black Wasp (Sphex pensylvanicus)

Distribution: Found across the USA, with the exception of the Pacific Northwest, south to Northern Mexico and north to Quebec and Ontario.

Habitat: Often found in grassland habitats where flowering plants are found, such as meadows and pastures. Prefer areas with well-drained, compacted soil. Can also be found in gardens.

Diet: Adults feed on pollen and nectar, common plants including milkweed, mint, boneset, goldenrod and clover. Larvae are carnivorous, feeding mainly on katydids, among other orthopteran insects.

Description: Though the great black wasp has a fearsome appearance, it's quite peaceful and rarely bothers humans. It's best not to mess with it, however, as the female still has the capacity to deliver a painful sting. Though they're best observed from afar, great black wasps have an important role both as pollinators and as a biological control for herbivore populations.

Great black wasps are digger wasps, meaning the female creates subterranean nests in which she lays her eggs. After creating a burrow, she will hunt for large, fleshy insects, such as katydids and grasshoppers, which she will paralyze with a sting and return to her nest. These insects can remain alive in the nest for weeks after being "kidnapped". Because hunting is a demanding activity, they feed on sugar-dense nectars to keep their energy levels high. Once they've finished hunting, females will lay an egg next to her paralyzed prey. Once hatched, the larvae has plenty of food to feast on while it grows.

It's a cliche for a reason:

Bring It On! (2000)

The movie is solid, and way better than the description sounds. It has also aged decently. To me she is the star of the movie, more than Torrance (Kirsten Dunst). Also Isis (Gabrielle Union) is excellent. She and The Clovers should have been in the movie more. This is currently free on TUBI in the USA. Various Bring It On gifs via Eliza Dushku Daily. (I like it even though I don't like her hair.) I mean...

Since that's not the most interesting answer, I'll give a few more. (Also bc I can't shutup about Eliza.) Bring It On is part of Eliza's BTVS to Tru Calling era. She made a slew of movies: Bring It On, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Soul Survivors, The New Guy, City by the Sea, Wrong Turn, and The Kiss.

Eliza's best horror / scary movie:

Wrong Turn (2003)

I like horror / scary movies and she's done several. This one is her best IMO, not just of this era, but of all time. This movie came out 10 days after the BTVS Series Finale (7x22 Chosen) aired May 20th, 2003!! Jessie is a born leader. Various Wrong Turn gifs via Eliza Dushku Daily.

Eliza's most under-rated movie of this era:

City by the Sea (2002)

Her character Gina is super interesting but sadly she doesn't get enough screen time or lines. She is super believable as a struggling single mom. She holds her own with DeNiro (who plays her baby's grandfather) in a great scene. The downside is the movie has James Franco and focuses WAY too much on him (and DeNiro) but if you're an Eliza fan check it out! Not much but check out City by the Sea via Eliza Dushku Daily.
