in every fandom there comes a time when you have to ask yourself, ok but what classes would these characters be if they were in D&D

overlong headcanons/design notes under the cut:

I based this AU off my rudimentary knowledge of D&D and it’s classes, but I’m taking creative liberties and it can be thought of as just a general fantasy rpg-style thing. Ended up being a mix match of comics and MCU but it’s an AU so hey it’s fine right lol

KAMALA - Sorcerer/Monk

Arguably one of the hardest to actually decide a class for?? I’m imagining her powers here as more akin to those she has in the MCU show; they’re something innate to her, passed down through her bloodline (and possibly unlocked by some event or heirloom as in the case of the TV show). I think the way she fights would be something closer to a monk, though? After awakening her powers, she journeys around helping people in the same way as she becomes Ms Marvel, both on her own and with the party.

Kamala’s design is based pretty much entirely off the Mystic Marvel design (originally I believe from Champions, also in the Avengers game)! I saw this design and my brain instantly went brrrr because it basically combines my two fave marvel heroes (Dr Strange and Kamala)!! I changed a few parts of the design, and simplified the shirt a bit. I think it suits Kamala well for a fantasy AU - even in the main comics she wears an outfit that’s comfy and easy to move in!

NAKIA- Sorcerer/Cleric

Since Nakia is the only sensible one here, it made sense for her to be the (begrudging, probably) healer. I think it suits her personality well too though! I’m imagining here that her powers are innate (like a sorcerer), but she just uses healing magic the most (like a cleric). More similar perhaps to something like the cleric class in Fire Emblem Awakening, where clerics are often religious but their powers aren’t something directly conferred by the gods.

Nakia’s design is based entirely off of her Storm Sage look in Ms Marvel (2015) #38 (aka the one where the gang gets isekai’d) Once again simplified it a little and softened some of the shapes (since it’s more of a villain look in the comic, but she’s obvs a good guy here)

BRUNO - Wizard/Artificer

Bruno’s outfit is also partly inspired by #38 (esp for colour scheme), but I mainly just did my own thing for what I thought he should look like in a fantasy AU ahahah. Gave him a long coat because if there’s one thing I love more than wizards, it’s wizards with long coats lmao

To me the D&D wizard class is much more the ‘study and research’ side of magic so it think it works well for the scientifically inclined Bruno. The thirst for knowledge and hubris (all the benchmarks of a good wizard character, really) are also very fitting for him, I think..!!

He’s a natural prodigy of magic and manages to get accepted to a prestigious and exclusive magic school but is kicked out after The Accident. Leaves to find somewhere else that’s willing to teach him since he can’t accept the idea of not learning magic. Meets Kwezi and the rest plays out much as it does in the comics

His prosthetics are powered with some kind of Magical Rock (call it a magic substitute for vibranium), and made by Kwezi. I’m undecided whether they’re grafted onto his arm/leg or it’s a whole Full Metal Alchemist situation but maybe a bit of both? The arm also acts as a conduit of sorts for casting his own magic (hence where the artificer class comes in). As he makes all sorts of stuff for Kamala in the comics/show I think him having the ability to craft magical items also fits well. Probably learns that magic from Kwezi. Which brings us to...

KWEZI - Artificer

Another magical prodigy, but I see Kwezi as more of a support type to Bruno’s spellcaster. The embodiment of chaotic good. I think he’d be mainly a crafter of magical items (sort of like Olruggio in Witch Hat Atelier?)

His background in this AU is the same as in the comics, and him and Bruno go adventuring a bit themselves before joining up with Kamala and co eventually. I think he’d be pretty sheltered when it comes to travelling outside fantasy-Wakanda, especially compared to Bruno, so hijinks ensue. (Side note, but I absolutely adore that contrast when it comes to Kwezi & Bruno’s dynamic, I’m so in love with them both)

The green cloak-wrap is inspired by his formal outfit in Ms Marvel (2015) #30, and the harem pants are from #29. I think comfy, practical clothes suit Kwezi, and I like that the colour scheme for him is a nice contrast with Bruno!

KAREEM - Rogue

Probably the easiest class to decide on because really what else could it be?? I’m undecided on whether Kareem should have his origin from the MCU show or the comics for this AU - personally I prefer comics but I do think a secret society sort of thing would work well for a fantasy AU so I’m leaning a bit more towards that perhaps.

His design is a mix of MCU, comics and my own take on it to make it a little more fantasy/rogue-like.

KAMRAN - Sorcerer

Probably the only one here (except maybe Kareem) who’s primarily based off his MCU appearance rather than the comics. I see him as being initially a bit more of a bad guy than in the show though, a sort of misguided villain who eventually ends up joining the party (see: Zuko in ATLA)

He’s grown up with the Clandestines (probably some kind of cult here) and he generally believes in their mission, so it takes a little more for him to turn on them. As a sorcerer his powers manifest suddenly and he doesn’t understand how to control them at first. The Clandestines probably want him to use his powers to their ends, and that, along with run-ins with Kamala gets him questioning whether he should continue to follow them or turn away from the only family he’s ever known...

Kamran’s design was probably the hardest to figure out, since he only really has appearances in regular clothes, and no canon alternate designs to work off of (like Nakia/Bruno/Zoe). In the end I was thinking of the Clandestines and what they might wear in such a setting? The blue colour scheme is based off the jacket he wears in ep 6 (probably his most iconic MCU look) and also his coat/scarf look in Ms Marvel (2014) #13. I don’t think I captured Kamran’s likeness very well here but his outfit actually turned out to be one of my faves, so swings and roundabouts hahah

ZOE - Fighter

I’m imagining Zoe in this AU is the daughter of some lowly noble family (a big shot in the town that her and the gang are from, not so much elsewhere). After a run in with some bandits where she’s saved by Kamala, she resolves that she needs to get stronger. Not the strongest nor the most skillful fighter, but she’s trying her best!!

Zoe’s design is inspired by her fantasy look in #38 (the pink tunic in particular), but I changed and added some details to it. Her cloak I swapped out for the pink scarf, as inspired by her stint as Ms Marvel!

BECKY - Paladin-->Warlock & JOSH - ???

The actual bad guys of this AU ahahah. I’m imagining here that the events of Civil War II play out pretty much the same in this AU as in the comics. Becky starts out as a paladin with generally good intentions, but when she crosses a line she gets disowned (is that the right word?? probably not) by her god. Unable to deal with it, she turns instead to darker powers, making a pact and becoming a warlock.

I haven’t really thought about what class Josh would be... maybe a fighter as well (to match Zoe?), but I’m imagining him as a sort of mysterious Black Knight type figure, hence the you haven’t unlocked this character yet question marks lmao

Their designs are based entirely off their lockdown/discord appearances, just adapted into fantasy-armour style. I think the designs carried over really well, actually (definitely helped by the excellent colour schemes!)

And there you have it LOL I have no idea if I’m gonna do anything more with this AU but just wanted to share the brainrot, so if you got this far THANKS..... any thoughts/suggestions for other characters I should add are always welcome!!

Away

A few days ago we took a flight from LA to Hawaii where we will be spending our holidays. And let me tell you, no one on that 6 hour flight was streaming their show, even though it’s the perfect opportunity to do so and it was the first weekend of its release.

A few thoughts to touch on some asks -

This staggered release is also unusual for Netflix, and likely something their team pushed for. You’re starting to see the drawbacks of it now, along with not having real marketing leading up to it. There is very limited coverage outside of entertainment outlets like People, and the comments are beyond negative, even on the NYT. The few pop culture pieces giving them space the first time around are all silent now. I’m talking the meme accounts and reactions that reflect public interest and commentary -like the Shade Room (esp for the black gossip community on IG). Given how much Tyler Perry features in the latest series it is quite remarkable that they have not commented on the doc AT ALL.

As with the above, emphasizing how jaw droppingly negative the reactions to press are. Not only on IG, but the comment sections of the NYT (which, if you’ve been reading me for a while, I’ve noted have been trending neutral-negative since the Bench.)

Netflix algorithms require a longer discussion. I’d say don’t believe anything you read online about how watching for X minutes is bad for them or that rating them poorly is enough. Their algorithms are a closely guarded secret and subject to change at any time anyway - that’s the point of machine learning. If you want to hit them where it hurts, the sure fire thing to do is to unsubscribe. When they sign big deals like this the goal is user growth - new subscribers, while limiting churn (retention). It’s probably safe to watch it if you’re a long time subscriber who is going to keep it around, but you might play into their annoying bragging about viewership and there’s a small chance they get a bonus off of views if they negotiated something like this. With that in mind, do you think anyone actually signed up for Netflix to watch this thing? Often times you hear people say things like, “crap, I cancelled Netflix but stranger things is back - going to reactivate this month.” My husband for example refused to let me cancel this month bc he wants to see the new Knives Out. This is what they’re looking for. This is what the contracts are dependent on (and not being a pain in the ass.) I’m not sure they’ll get that, given how settled opinions are about them even prior to the show. And not to sound like a bitch, but her sugars who would support the doc seem a bit broke and like they still live at home anyway, whether they’re 13 or 45.

Disabled community, I want y’all’s thoughts on this (esp people who are familiar with the way disability accommodations and stuff work in the US) because I feel like I’m probably being screwed over.

So I work at a store chain in the southern US and I applied for reasonable accommodations under the ADA for diagnosed chronic pain and fatigue. I have a relative who was an HR manager (or something like that) for years and I asked for her input and she said she thought my requests were perfectly reasonable, unlikely to be denied for any reason, and very well worded. I asked for, with a doctor’s input, having two days off in a row twice a month, being scheduled no more than 8 hours a day, and “flexibility in scheduling” (doctors words, not mine, and I’m not a huge fan of this part because of how incredibly vague it is, making me unsure of how it would be applied in practice). I was told when I first sent the paperwork in to my manager that I should be the first one to hear back directly from HR via email, it’s been probably over a month and I have not heard back.

I talked to my manager this morning after my shift, asking if he had heard anything, and he said HR had gotten the request but that he and my comanager had decided to, instead of giving me the accommodations as I requested, change my job position to something ��less physically demanding”. In the moment I was too tired from my shift to process this fully and was thinking “whatever, I’ll take what I can get I guess” but the more I think about it the more frustrated I am. I don’t feel that changing my job position to something less physically demanding will be adequate, because the physical labor isn’t the entire issue to begin with, although it is a big part of it. With the combination of chronic fatigue and being autistic (which I am formally diagnosed with, but did not mention in my request for accommodations because I thought it would be best to include as little of my diagnostic information as possible so they have less reasons to want to fire me, but now I realize this may have been a mistake) I am easily exhausted to the point of being unable to function adequately at work or otherwise, even from non physically demanding labor- ESPECIALLY from doing day shifts working retail where I am required to interact with customers all day. This is extremely hard on me emotionally and even physically (from the stress of it causing chronic pain flareups) and it would be even if I were allowed to sit down as much as I wanted.

I’m upset, I don’t know what to do, any advice or thoughts on the matter would be appreciated. The thing that really gets me is, you shouldn’t even have to be disabled to want two days off in a row a measly twice a month. But the fact that I am disabled according to doctors and they’re still apparently denying me this is just absolutely bonkers to me. And for someone with debilitating chronic pain, fatigue, etc that’s especially barely asking anything, it’s not even the bare minimum, it wouldn’t be anywhere near enough, but I asked for it because it would at least be better and I thought it was such an agonizingly reasonable request that they couldn’t possibly deny it. But I guess I underestimated how (even with my already present complete and utter lack of faith in the system) how unseriously the ADA is taken by corporations and how unwilling they are to make even the tiniest of adjustments. And, I’m not the only person in my job position who works there, it’s a big store with lots of employees, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be able to give me that much. This is all ridiculous. I don’t know what can be done, or if what they’re doing is even legal or not (but even if it isn’t, I’m not sure what I could do about it because it’s not like I have the money to hire a lawyer).

This is my first “real” job and I’ve only been there since summer of this year, if that matters for context.

is it just me or does the majority of atla's fandom care about mostly about FN esp zuko and azula while completely discarding the other characters and themes of the series

It's not just you, and it's not just the fandom either. Bryke, and some of the other writers, clearly have a preference for the Fire Nation stories, Zuko's in particular.

It was a combo of “Give the people what they want” and “The people want what they are given” and that came to be because of a few things:

Good planning and the quality of the writting

The writers changed MANY things from their original idea for the story, and Fire Nation, while still affected by it, seemed to never lose it's main focus: Zuko rebelling against Ozai and joining team Avatar.

The Gaang meanwhile went through plenty of changes. Toph was originally a super tough guy, not blind, and would be in a love triangle with Katara and Aang. Suki was meant to be a one-off character. Katara went from struggling with waterbending to suddenly being able to do some serious damage while fighting Pakku. The episode that would be based on Aang's parents was completely scrapped.

So many changes, many of them at least minute, led to some storylines of the Gaang being more truncaded, rushed, botched, or just not living up to their potential. Again, that applies to the Fire Nation and Zuko's arc as well, but not to the same degree as the rest (at least not until the comics and Korra, when any quality was long gone from any storyline of any character and nation).

Aang's connection to Zuko and to the Fire Nation

There were plenty of parallels between Aang and Zuko throughout the seasons, and we later even found out that Aang is the reincarnation of Zuko's great-grandfather. Naturally, that gives Zuko A LOT more screentime - he is basically a villain protagonist from the start of the show. And since people tend to think of the more complicated, or sometimes straight up evil, character is the most interesting one, it led to most of the audience thinking the Zuko side of the dynamic was the better written one by default.

We can also not forget that Aang's most recent past life, Roku, is the one he interacts with the most, and he was not only part of the Fire Nation and of Zuko's family, but he was directly involved in the start of the war - which is the main plot of the show.

And on top of all that, Aang also genuinely LOVES the Fire Nation and is one of the few people alive who remembers a time when the war was not a thing and the Fire Nation was radically different. The comparisson is important for the story and it's protagonist, and thus it draws even MORE attention to that part of the story.

Villain bias

The Fire Nation are the bad guys in the story, but we know that’s something that can get people’s attention and spark their curiosity. Why did the Fire Nation attack everybody else? How big is the list of horrible shit they did? How powerful are they really? Is there even a way for Aang to stop them? What’s gonna happen to them once/if they are defeated? Can they really dominate the world? Can they really live peacefully with the other nations once the war is over?

It’s natural for the audience to be intrigued by the bad guys, even without agreeing with or liking them. The fact that Fire Nation is also invading other places and chasing the hero means they’re part of the conflict of nearly every episode, and views are constantly waiting to see what they do next - regardless of them being excited for it or dreading it and wishing the fuckers would go away.

Antagonists usually get a lot of screentime, and the very plot of Avatar requires the Fire Nation to constantly be either shown or talked about for the level of threat to the heroes to be made as clear as possible.

The lack of development of the other nations

That one is pretty self-explanatory. The Water Tribes and the Air-Nomads weren’t given much screentime, which kind of makes sense considering, ya know, the freaking genocide. However, the writers could have used some “flashback episodes”, simmilar to The Storm, to help the audience be more invested in them and care about what is at stake. The conflict is more centered around the Fire Nation attacking the Earth Kingdom - to the point that the war is pretty much considered won once Azula and Zuko conquer Ba Sing Se.

Familiarity

This is likely the most important one.

1 - While writing about an abusive, dysfunctional family and about a war isn't exactly easy (read the comics to witness how badly that can be screwed up), it is still easier than writting about how the last survivors of two genocides get by and deal with their trauma. The villain seeing the error of his ways and changing sides, and the brave hero rebelling against the injust system are popular tropes and did NOT start with Zuko's redemption arc, no matter how much the fandom tries to convince itself that it did. Brian, Myke and the other writers likely grew up with that kind of story, as did most of us, so naturally they'd be better at writting it, and most people could understand it, since we saw it a million times before.

2 - The Fire Nation is heavily inspired by Japan, and Japanese culture is more "mainstream" than Inuit or Tibetan culture, thus the writers were more familiar with it - to the point that Avatar had WAY more simmilarities to anime than most western cartoons. And once again, what was the non-fire nation arc people seemed most invested in? Ba Sing Se. Which is famous for it's great walls, having the most people and a culture that is fucking ancient, and when Iroh took a knife from a general during his siege and gave to Zuko, said knife had a "Made in earth kingdom" joke. Doesn't it sound some other asian country that most people have at least some surface knowledge of?

3 - The writers are americans, and the Fire Nation has some american inspiration. While it was not at the level of "Let's make Not!New York a thing in this pan-asian world!" yet, the writers said they based many things about the Fire Nation off of the US - most notoriously the military shit, and the habit of "We know what's best for everyone, the rest of the world should be like us." Once again, being familiar with what you're writting makes it more likely that you'll do a better job at it than at writing about something you don't really know much about.

Conclusion

Zuko and the Fire Nation became as popular as they did because of a perfect storm of very especific factors - some that were inevitable due to the narrative itself, and some that were caused by flaws in the writting.

I think the biggest problem (at least in my eyes) w LMK swk rn is the fact that we have yet to see, well, ANYTHING from his point of view - we never get to hear his side of the story. I’m not sure how to word this the way I want to, but since most of the characters that bring up Swk’s shortcomings are antagonists (esp Macaque’s in this season feels more like petty innsults mainly just to get under Qi Xiaotian’s skin) it feels like it ties a little into the whole theme they’ve set up w this season - how you’re defined, both by what you ‘are’ and by how other’s percieve you. Swk expresses that he knows he can’t change the past so instead he focuses on trying to do better in the present, while those he may have wronged are so hung up on getting back at him. So idk I feel like there is potential that they’re not just hammering in on a Haha Sun Wukong sucks sentiment - I’m holding out hope that as episodes progress we maybe get to hear more from Swk himself as he opens up more (like we’ve seen him start to do) and that he gets to interract more w the group so we can actually see some of the results of his development SHRUGS one can hope. Sorry for rambling in your ask box I just think abt this a lot gdhdghsgd

Ah no worries anon feel free to ramble away. But anon I honestly hope that you are right about that...the amount of hatred that the Monkey King's been getting in both canon and fanon for some time now is pretty depressing :( Though I will say that while you are mostly correct in that we know basically nothing about Sun Wukong's past from his point of view, I'll admit to being a bit worried on how further explorations of his history from his perspective will play out given that the one(1) time where we actually saw something from his point of view it was him goofing around during the suppression of the Samadhi fire and thus almost causing a disaster (plus planting the seed for a future catastrophe). Plus with the way every single one of his former friends thoroughly hates him as he is (even given Azure Lion's "he WAS so cool" & "I will fix him" mentality) it all makes me wary about where this is going, even with the hints that the torture headband is going to feature heavily...I fully acknowledge that I've been a real debbie downer about the goofy lego show as of late and that this might in large part be due to me own flawed perception, and it would be cool if Flying Bark managed to write some way that actually gets the Monkey King started on a good story where he gets to be something besides a despised failure. BUT I GUESS WE'LL SEE.

TDLR; Why Seigfried Didn’t Work As A Kaiba Expy, He Wasn’t Neurodivergent

Hi everyone! While I’m writing the next chapter and trying to survive Capitalism despite living its real-time collapse (I work two jobs, why chapter production is slow these days), I’d like to make a post like this while it’s still Autism Awareness month. Now, not to say you can’t enjoy the pink haired frilly goofy man. I never have though. I felt like he was a let down after Dartz, who is my favorite villain of Yugioh, I SAID WHAT I SAID. And I’m also saying you can enjoy your villains of Yugioh, and I will enjoy mine. All that out of the way, I would like to dive into an analysis of Seto Kaiba and who I felt were his good expies, Noa/Noah and Alister/Amelda. Anyone who has autism (myself included, I’m not 100% on paper yet but I’ve had multiple doctors agree with me), you know. There’s a Neurodivergence ESP, when you are talking to someone you just Know when someone else just isn’t neurotypical This is based off of their canon, observable in the show behaviors, trying not to lean into anything headcanon unless it slightly grays the area a little. Using dub names but will tag original names later (I just don’t like Amelda as a name...) But first starting with Seto himself, he’s very blunt and impulsive. Which isn’t helped by the fact he’s got a lot of money. So he can act on literally every impulsive thought he has. Man probably filmed that idea to send Duel Monsters cards into space the minute he had it in GX. He’s very egocentric, which a lot of people get confused with his arrogance. Not that he’s not both, but he really genuinely believes that any time his company is under attack, it’s because someone’s trying to take it over. Not that it’s the one sure-fire way to draw him out of hiding, it’s that everyone is out to get him. Always! (as an example, during Season Four his company gets bought out by the villains. He’s convinced this was ALL a ploy to take it over, when really Dartz needs him out in the open because he needs to kill him.) His special interest is Duel Monsters. Literally all his money comes from making electronics and technology specifically for playing his special interest. And he’s richer THAN the person he pays royalties to because Seto doesn’t own Duel Monsters. Pegasus does. All Seto did was invent the technology to play it, and fixing the rules to actually make the game playable (The rules of Battle City were his, after all.) He’s pretty close to being nonverbal, a LOT of Kaiba’s lines are actually thoughts in his head rather than stuff he says out loud, except when he’s delivering snarky comments or talking to Mokuba. He’s got a perpetually weird relationship with the protagonists because he’s not good with social cues or interacting with people in general. Not that he wouldn’t die for them, he’s not good at expressing it though. They’re his friends, but they gotta squint to hear what he’s actually saying. ----- Noah’s is going to be a lot shorter as far as canon behaviors go since we only have a few episodes with him really, and I’d also think of him as having both BPD and autism (which happens co morbidly, around 15% of BPD patients also meet the criteria for having ASD.) (There’s also that they all have some very intense levels of PTSD, but that’s another kettle of horses.) His biggest sign that he’s both is his emotional state of being when we encounter him in his half of Season Three. Not to say that his environment didn’t help him any, but I think it’d just made it more obvious. Both conditions affect mood stability, which cause intense emotions and a grandiose sense of self at the same time. But there’s also a sense of emptiness and a negative impact on self esteem, a diffuse of self (in TVTropes words, he definitely has a Superiority-Inferiority Complex.) Much like Seto, as well, social cues aren’t something he excels in. The idea of anyone being nice to him is confusing, but he really develops one bond (Mokuba), and he convinces himself he needs to die for him and the people he brought into the Digital World. But a few scenes before he steals Mokuba’s body briefly, he can’t comprehend why someone is being nice to him. He thinks he’s being slow and steady with the reveal he’s about to drop on the protagonists of being Gozoboro’s son, but remember that his entire arc is only a few hours of one day in Battle City (when they cut to Yami Marik being like ‘.... Where the hell did everyone go?’), so they’re not really there long before he starts traumadumping and infodumping about his own monsters. He’s so socially deprived that he’s A) going to tell you all what he’s been through because all he wanted was to be loved by someone who couldn’t possibly love him, and B) He’s going to tell you about his niche interest in computer programming to make the world he’s in more interesting, as well as the extremely niche tidbits of information he has about Spirit Monsters and their development in the game of DM. (Remember, the Deck Master system and the rules of their abilities is the stuff he made up. Pegasus still made the Spirit Monsters, don’t let the rules of the Season throw you. They’re using a database of every known card, they’re in a computer, and it doesn’t trip up the rule of Season Four of the Orichalcos. Because it’s being used by one specific cult and no one else. The cards in Noah’s deck, broken effects and all, actually existed in-universe, and given how all of the protagonists had never heard of them until the duel with Noah, despite Solomon owning a Card Shop and there being more in Domino, that means he was into the REALLY obscure cards of the game.) ---- Alister is probably the most neurodivergent of them all, to start he has a very one-track mind ability to hyperfocus. The only thing on his mind ever is getting revenge on Seto Kaiba because he’s the living body still. If Alister COULD kill Gozoboro still, he would. Unquestioningly. He’s got a very strong sense of justice powered by a black-and-white morality way of thinking. He is definitely someone you want in your cult to destroy the world, it takes very little convincing that someone is evil and needs to be destroyed. And he can’t be swayed from his opinions, either. He’s got very intense feelings that are being taken advantage of. He’s got a very declarative memory and trauma dumps with very little prompting. He’s got a comfort item that ties into his traumas, of course. He’s got some odd reactions too and is strangely very naive despite everything (aside from the normal response of ‘Who are you?’, doesn’t seem to question that he’s straight up hallucinating/receiving a mental link directly to Dartz the first time they ever speak. Not a ‘what the hell is going on, what is happening, where did the world go’, ect, ect. Just ‘This person can tell me what happened and who hurt me? Okay.’ ) Alister’s also got issues with social situations, the only friends he has you can count on one hand. And that comes with its own weird rules of That’s Just How They Talk To Each Other. (He does love Raphael and Valon, even saying that he and his ‘new family’ are saving the world.) Also, this one is semi-canon, semi- head canon, hence the disclaimer earlier. He’s got sensory issues and is sensitive to light (he wears sunglasses inside of buildings, and during the nighttime.) And his clothing, at least to me, suggest he gets hot easily but still needs pressure due to an aversion to touch. (His shirt is midriff exposing, but he also has like eight belts and a huge ass trench coat on. And heat intolerance is a littler-known sign of autism) ---- I never got anything that deep out of Seigfried. He really just that butthurt about his company. While my story doesn’t go past Season Four, I know how I’d fix Season Five.

so, some may be familiar with my great british bake off au, Nothing Equals The Splendor. this takes place in the same universe! it's another one where im not sure why i didn't finish it, because it's over halfway done.. but whatever lol. im actually going to put the rest under a read more because there's a HUGE spoiler for the original fic!!

soooo if you remember, simon won the championship. and now he has to be really active on social media to reap the benefits. and baz makes it his mission to ensure that they have good content to post LOL, so he's constantly taking pics of simon (like an instagram husband). the fic is actually told in a collection of outsider POV vignettes -- niall, shep, dev, and penny -- before coming back to simon/baz povs.

now that im looking at this, i think the reason i stopped writing it is that there's Tension that arises between simon and baz bc of all this social media stuff and i kind of didnt want to deal with it once i got into their heads -- bc the outside povs were so fun!! esp bc i loved my versions of niall and dev in this verse.

i'll give you the full dev pov scene, because why not lol:

I didn’t expect Malcolm to take Baz’s whole new thing well. Baz’s dad has always put a lot of pressure on him. I don’t think he expected Natasha Pitch’s son to grow up to be a queer socialist. (Baz’s politics are kind of bullshit since he’s still paying rent and tuition with Daddy’s old family money. But so am I, so I can’t really judge.)

Anyway, I certainly didn’t expect this: Malcolm and Baz’s boyfriend chummin’ it up at my grandmother’s garden party. Simon had expressed mild interest in Malcolm’s newest magickal livestock endeavor (Literal fire-breathing guinea pigs. Inspired.). It devolved from there.

I’ve always maintained that my uncle Malcolm is a softie underneath it all — mostly because I know that’s how Baz is. The Grimms are sensitive folks. And as soon as you give their weird niche topics a spoonful of attention, they fall apart like putty in your hands. You should hear Baz wax on about baking, it’s insufferable. But also very sweet.

Or maybe Simon Snow has some kind of secret key to a Grimm’s heart.

“Wait, my American friend taught me this one,” Simon says, reaching his hands out for Malcolm’s youngest kid, Swithin. “I've been working on the railroad / All the live-long day. / I've been working on the railroad / Just to pass the time away!”

They’re several drinks deep, passing Swithin back and forth on the steps of the back porch and singing him nursery rhymes. Malcolm just finished a rousing rendition of Ladybird, Ladybird! that made Swithin coo with laughter.

“Dinah, won't you blow, / Dinah, won't you blow, / Dinah, won't you blow your horn?” Simon’s voice is carrying now, Swithin bouncing joyously on his knee.

Daphne and I are standing nearby, watching the whole affair with wide eyes.

“What is happening right now?” Baz hisses. I jump — I hate when he sneaks up on me. Stealthy motherfucker.

“Shhhh,” I say, putting a hand on his shoulder. “They’re bonding. Nature is healing.”

Daphne laughs at that, loud enough that both Malcolm and Simon look over at us, cheeks equally pink as they realize they’re putting on a show. Daphne takes out her phone and takes a photo of them. She’s lucky the porch lights are on — the sky is a dusky purple at this stage in the evening.

“Could you please send that to me, Mum?” Baz asks, his voice small. I’m worried he genuinely might cry.

“It can go on my Instagram!” Simon calls over. Baz grins, walking over to sit next to him on the steps. Swithin reaches for Baz, and he swoops him up, kissing his forehead. Then he leans over and kisses Simon’s forehead as well.

Malcolm doesn’t even flinch.

He DOES think of himself as top dog and he DOES love to be reminded of that in positive ways, especially by MC. He’s also a big fan of pet names and terms of endearment, even if he personally sticks to the ‘classier’ ones like ‘dear,’ ‘my love,’ etc.

it’s just. why THAT nickname

tfw you’re supposed to be the Obvious Dom romance option but you’ve got the “not sexy, actually pretty traumatic” version of daddy issues

He keeps his reaction internal for the most part, though he’ll act all smug if he notices someone (esp. his brothers) getting jealous.

When he summons MC to his office later, he asks them not to call him that again. However, they’re certainly welcome to call him “master” or the like~

✧ Mammon

He’s flustered and he’s LOUD about it

Tries to shout after MC but can’t get a coherent sentence out rip–

Winds up sprinting after MC after he’s done malfunctioning

“Ya can’t just SAY something like that and then RUN OFF–!”

He subtly (“subtly”) tries to get MC to call him that again, and he’ll get all pouty if they don’t. Vehemently denies both his efforts AND the sulking if questioned.

Actually adjusts quickly if MC starts calling him ‘daddy’ regularly, due in no small part to the fact he already calls himself that occasionally. He still gets all blushy over the fact MC is calling him that, though.

Just– just give him a sec, he’s not used to having emotions and stuff attached to this

Gets an order of magnitude clingier with MC, which is surprising when considering how clingy he already was beforehand.

✧ Leviathan

“I won’t fall for your normie tactics!!” he says, already falling for MC’s normie tactics

MC has found the one (1) surefire way to break his otherwise indestructible Rhythm Game Trance

Also, they’ve killed him

He doesn’t chase after MC, he just kinda…shrivels into himself? He’s curled up on the floor now, hands over his face. It doesn’t really hide how much he’s blushing tho

Once he gets ahold of himself he starts texting MC RAPID-FIRE, what did they MEAN by that, is this a prank?? Wait of course it’s a prank, who would wanna use normie nicknames with him–

(MC come back your man is despairing again)

He tries to refer to himself as ‘daddy’ while flirting with MC later but gets so embarrassed that he bluescreens before he can get the word out

Acts completely unruffled.

This turn of events has him…intrigued? Endeared? Excited? Some combination of those. MC wants to play a flirtatious game of cat-and-mouse, do they? Well, he’s happy to oblige.

He keeps up the facade until he can get MC alone – which, given their popularity, might take a day or two. He wants them to think he’s forgotten about it, wants them to let their guard down. Such will make it all the more effective when he pulls out something like “Daddy missed you today, pet” or “How is daddy’s little kitten?”

Catch him trying to mentally calculate the optimal rate of self-referring as ‘daddy’ the whole time he’s flirting

He’s trying so so hard to be suave lmao, if MC laughs at him he’s never gonna recover, he’s just gonna walk into the woods and never return

‘Pet’ and ‘kitten’ become his go-to nicknames for MC if they start calling him ‘daddy’ regularly, since he feels they match best.

✧ Asmodeus

Oh he is delighted

Will shout after MC calling them “baby” without hesitation, his flirting skills are Impeccable after all

Weirdly enough, it gives him a bunch of soft and fuzzy feelings. Sure, sure, he’s got people calling him ‘daddy’ all the time on Devilgram, but are any of them MC?? No. So it doesn’t matter

MC likes him enough to use cheesy sexy nicknames with him!! If he’s in his room when this happens then he’ll be giggling and rolling on his bed like a fool in love

It takes less than 5 min for him to start hitting MC with the “daddy’s lonelyyyyy :( come cuddle w/ me!” texts

That’s his new name when it comes to MC btw, he’s stealing their DDD and changing his contact name to ‘Daddy ♡♡♡’, it’s gonna be a mainstay of his flirting from now on

Ultimately he doesn’t really get it, but he doesn’t mind it either. He’ll start using more nicknames for MC in response, like ‘baby’ and so on.

He rolls his eyes and goes back to sleep. He DOES have a smug little smile on his face, tho.

also just bc he’s pleased doesn’t mean he won’t make fun of MC for it

Will call himself ‘daddy’ as a joke now when it’s just him and MC. If someone else (read: any of his brothers except Beel) overhears him then they have to die.

Aside from that, nothing much changes? He’ll play along if MC wants to call him ‘daddy’ during ~intimate moments~, but for the most part he doesn’t really care.

Since ep 8 of despair time is almost here ima scream about my thoughts on ep 7

read more contains major chapter 2 spoilers, esp for the end of the ep!

Teruko even when she’s being a grumpy cat is a big mood

*sleeps in four hours in* “I’M GONNA BE LATE FOR SCHOOL!” “Wait I’m in a killing game I don’t have school”

and then nopes out of drama much to the audience’s dismay (these eps being livestreamed makes the meta of Despair Time being a tv show 10x hilarious, it’s like v3 all over again)

Part of me expected Ace to damage his vocal chords or lose his voice due to him neglecting his throat wound, but it must’ve been surface level since he’s still at 110% volume, Eden must’ve dragged him to the infirmary, she’s got willpower, she could do it

and Nico being oddly quiet makes me think that they regret trying to kill Ace and it was a “I am in so much stress I’m going to express it in a very unhealthy way” and that way was attempted murder

Doesn’t make what Nico did okay... but I get why they tried to kill Ace, they have really bad experiences with getting bullied and Ace constantly picking on them in an environment like the killing game is not good for one’s mental health, (plus getting outed w/o their consent DAVID--)

the convo with Rose at the gym makes me think of the vine of “I thought you could do a kickflip--” “I can! I did one this morning!”

Wonder why J was in the gym, hmmmmmmmm

and then Rose realizing Nico stole her art supplies to commit murder--

*shakes Nico* I love you but *points to Rose* you gave her anxiety, apologize asap

I think they’re genuine friends but Nico def made some bad choices and should apologize

Best part of the ep is no doubt the charwhit shenanigans, everything else is on fire and they are vibing, I also love that Whit is helping Charles learn how to cook and they both are finding things they have in common

Veronika is an interesting character for sure, she reminds me a bit of Junko but if Junko dealt with her despair addiction in a healthy matter (aka horror movies)

I don’t think Veronika is like the mastermind or secretly a serial killer (please god do not let us have another chapter 3 serial killer), she is just a little Unhinged like your everyday tumblr user

and then the BDA happens this ep and *sigh*

Was really terrified once David noticed she was missing and the way she died... wtf to whomever killed her I have words for you

It really sucks bc (a. the playground of all places?! b. She had a really bad hand in life and C. I wanted to see her be happy!)

I’ve seen a lot of people debate it being David or Hu or Eden (I doubt it’s Eden since the BDA went off and I think she has some part to play) but I’m not sure, but it def wasn’t an accident like Xander

and it’s def gonna be a long trial since bda files aren’t a thing in this game, which is super cool and it made the first trial really interesting as part of the mystery was the cast assumed Xander died from a throat wound but in reality he died from electrocution

who knows what’ll happen next ep but I am def scared for the investigation

this is based off a tiktok i’ll never find again ahdjsjdjdj, but essentially a crack au where obito does everything in his power to get kakashi to leave the home (genuinely traumatizing things) and kakashi is completely unfazed every time because he works full time at the town’s shittiest mcdonald’s where he’s definitely seen worse shdjsksjjs.

road trip:

“Aren’t you a little too old to be scared of the dark?”

this is just vibes there was no plot <333 i just thought kakashi teasing obito for this was cute, and the two of them goofing around with each other on a trip would be adorable!! also had potential to be a kkobrin au and if i were to write it now, it would definitely be that <3

this was actually for my firefighter obt and nurse kakashi au! obito gets severely injured in a fire and is sent to the hospital where they meet, about a week after obito saves kakashi’s house from burning down. kakashi is babysitting naruto while minato and kushina are out of town, and so he already has a lot on his plate, and obito has partial custody of his and rin’s child. (not a bad divorce, they’re still good friends!! he’s a really good dad and a good friend to rin, but couldn’t be a good husband because he worked hours that she couldn’t deal with while being a nurse and having a child. she’s since moved to a less demanding job in the medical field to take of their child <3)

anyway yeah that’s all <3 they’re so important to me i love them idk why the space above is so large i can’t make it go away

kid ghost kakashi and kid obito

- they had houses next to each other and would talk through their windows on the second floor bedrooms.

- kakashi died chasing after a soccer ball in a game. he’s not actually dead, just in a coma and healing slowly. he flickers in and out of existence based on whether he’s close to waking up or not.

- he is entirely conscious of everything he’s doing as a ghost. obito’s certain that he’s a figment of his imagination to cope, and since kakashi can’t make him believe otherwise, he just goes with it.

- obito goes to prom with somebody else and, unable to bear the fact that kakashi is also there, watching from afar, ditches (prom dress—mxmtoon).

- obito cries over math hw, kks helps him

- kakashi skipped a grade or two (can’t remember) and is in the same grade as obito. he’s only one or two years younger or whatever, DEF not four lol

IMPORTANT AU TO ME!!!! i started writing the first chapter but i just couldn’t get the tone right, esp bc it was from a squirrel’s perspective and…yeah. anyway. the main angst came from the prom scene, after goofy shenanigans with each other <3 obito goes to prom with somebody else (not rin he wouldn’t do that to her) and he can’t stand seeing kakashi on the bleachers, looking defeated and just. so sad. stressed, esp bc he’s having feelings ab somebody who might die, he ditches and kakashi tries to comfort him but hey, his best friend is about to die and he can’t deal with that, and just. fuck. sad.

kakashi does not die (…at least in one ending. never did figure out if i wanted to write the other too)

modern au kakashi gets flashes of different aus, mostly of obito dying. he can’t piece it together, until he realizes that he’s somehow connected to the multiverse.

i do not remember what this was about <3 but it’s cool in concept!! i think somehow he was able to travel the multiverse too, but like not intentionally. he was usually dumped in some random universe. (much opportunity for crossover aus, time change aus, i was also perhaps going to use this as an excuse to write friends’ aus and aus i liked dhhdjsjd

limbo dancing with the devil

- basically little to no morals

- western

- kakashi and obito were raised in a gang, but it was eventually killed and they were spared. kakashi picked up his life (it’s relative) and now works as a gun-checker for a saloon. also runs missions for tsunade, usually in killing people.

- obito simply started his own gang (akatsuki) and they go around killing killers. they’re looking for tsunade, because one of her men (kks) killed yahiko (but yahiko was actually killed by madara and framed kakashi)

- madara is the biggest threat—he’s been dormant since he got his town and was satisfied to live there, but with the new information, they have to go after him. kakashi, akatsuki, rin, tsunade and shizune all band together to go to tsukuyomi.

- obito kills killers and bad people, but kakashi’s revealed to have killed heartlessly (he didn’t get his reputation based on checking guns at a bar. he was taken in briefly by danzō and ran bad missions.)

- tenzo eventually joins the party when they meet him in konoha, the last stop before tsukuyomi. he’s gotten better (he used to work for danzō too) and is next in line for sheriff. he comes along because he’s been tracking madara for a while too, as he’s a threat to konoha.

- obito and kakashi’s deep talk: kakashi just killed someone by knife when obito was down, and obito says “you didn’t strike me as a killer.” kakashi responds, “that’s what makes me so good at it.”

- that sounds so edgy LOL in the moment it’s kind of sad.

incredibly important au to me. such worldbuilding, plus it means i would’ve gotten to write southwestern stuff which is simply <33333 LOVE!!!! i love love love writing about the southwest it’s just home <333🧡🧡🧡🧡 but also the plot is cool i really like it!! unfortunate i never got around to it, but i did write one chap on ao3 if you’re interested ;)

hatake norse

- old hatake wolves gone unused for so long that they’ve overgrown with moss and lichen

- tarot cards

- must all things end?

- flower field of daisies and lavender

- overgrown hatake estate

- skoll: devours the moon

- hati: devours the sun

- fenrir: will devour everything

- vargamor: a woman with control over wolves who lives in the forest. kakashi’s mom was one of these and she’s actually the one with hatake descent. this is how kakashi has control over wolves.

- kakashi wasn’t provided enough stability as a child and so he ends up destroying the world by freeing fenrir.

- he finds old scrolls under the floorboards where sakumo died.

- the island fenrir lives on is a marsh.

so yeah this is just a bad ending au no matter what. kakashi is enticed by his lineage in the hatake scrolls, which is great at first. then he associates with obito and the akatsuki, finds out obito’s plan because obito trusts him, foolishly. kakashi pretends to play along until he reverse summons himself to fenrir’s island and pulls the sword from the stone, releasing the wolf and ending the world. in his final moments, he gets to say goodbye to naruto, regret what he did because anything is better than this, regret it because naruto will die, and then justify it with obito’s actions. it’s for the greater good kind of stuff. it’s not. bad ending.

he doesn’t try to negotiate with fenrir after watching how quickly he took down kaguya. there’s no point in arguing morals without something that merciless.

this would’ve been a fun worldbuilding project, and i got pretty far! unfortunately i’m not writing anymore and so this project has come to a halt. i highly recommend the first few chapters because they were really fun for me to write, the last two are very meh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it would mean a lot if u, who is reading this, read the first few chaps on my ao3 tho lol

better superhero au, invincible inspired

- obito is high school student, starts with no powers.

- gets powers one night, kamui makes him essentially invincible (wow what a cool name)

- madara (caretaker with hashirama) works with obito on his powers and takes him training.

- tobirama (cecil) adds obito to a superhero program he has, puts him on team with tsunade (black samson), kakashi (atom eve; final love interest), tenzō (robot), genma (rex splode).

- rin (amber; first love interest) is regular human, but volunteers at soup kitchen and helps in community, a hero in her own right.

- kakashi and tenzō are also secretly part of root, another organization that’s underground to the program. obito’s asked to join by danzō, to which he accepts, aka harder missions.

- he, kks and tenzō almost die (the mafia thing) and so does everyone else, but they all live thanks to tobirama and healing stuff.

- meanwhile, madara investigation ongoing, who killed the global guardians?

- subway scene and stuff. man. obito’s pretty much just fuckign demolished. iykyk.

- obito lives and recovers, kakashi suffers memory trauma from concussions.

this would’ve been fun to write for worldbuilding, i love working with magic/superpower systems!! also some major angsty kkob!!! i did write a little smth for this a while back but idk if i’ll be able to find it, if anyone’s interested anyway dhdjsjjd

- “every timeline. every single one, you kill me. why?”

- kakashi carries an opal, believed to be bad luck and carries the power of every gemstone. “magician’s stone”

- a desperate cleric slamming every healing spell in an attempt to bring someone back to life the ground sprouts flowers all around. deep in the forest, surrounded by flowers, lies a corpse refusing to rot.

- (from today) what was i even thinking?

- i think kakashi was supposed to have magic powers thru the stone. like a mage. and then obito was tasked by some higher being with always killing him forever

- they go through each timeline like this and at some point obito really does manage to kill kakashi. for real, for the final time (he’s not carrying the gemstone on him maybe?) and enter that last quote

- tbh i don’t remember i jsut made that up off the top of my head SHHDKSKAG

- this is Obito Suffering because He Cares So Much and what better way for angst than losing the one he cares most about? haha.

The Issue with How Succession Treats Characters of Color

The discussion of diversity in Succession has been the subject of discourse as many have argued that since all the characters on the show are terrible people, including people of color in this show would result in negative portrayals. Additionally, Jeremy Strong and Jesse Armstrong have both addressed the lack of diversity by saying that the show is supposed to reflect the reality of how most corporations often only have white people in positions of power – however, the show fails to effectively criticize the lack of diversity in the corporate setting. Though the show itself points this flaw out sometimes, including the scene of Cousin Greg noticing how the Waystar Royco ad had more diversity than the actual company did, there’s a stark lack of commentary on the whiteness of the show. Succession attempts to address this somewhat in season three when Berry Schneider (Jihae) and Lisa Arthur (Sanaa Lathan) are introduced, but the show’s issue of how people of color are treated within the context of the story seems to stand out more than ever.

Before season three, two people of color were portrayed as external enemies to the company: Lawrence and Stewy. Having people of color being portrayed as villains is a little disheartening as it’s more than disappointing that the few characters of color were shown in such negative light as most characters on this show are – however, they’re shown in a way that’s harder to sympathize with them than it is with the Roys, even if they are giving some sort of substantial but clearly temporary power in the story. Lawrence eventually disappears from the show, but Stewy (Arian Moayed) sticks around, albeit he and Marcia (Hiam Abbass) have drastically reduced screentime in season three to the point where Arian Moayed was demoted from recurring actor to guest actor, which was the title he has been nominated for a 2022 Emmy under. Marcia and Stewy being sidelined is a real shame because they’re both interesting characters who have the potential to be fleshed out and explored more, not to mention both Moayed and Abbass are incredibly talented actors and shouldn’t be underutilized.

The ostensible explanation is the introduction of Berry and Lisa, but these two women of color are barely developed and rarely receive any screentime. In fact, Kendall even fires Lisa as the season progresses. Though Berry joins Kendall’s entourage, she rarely has any speaking lines and mostly stands to the side, offering a nod and becoming reduced to a yes-woman after her strong introduction. Jess, Kendall’s assistant, gets some more screentime this season, but she doesn’t grow into an independent character and seems like an extension of Kendall. Obviously, Kendall Roy’s poor treatment of these three women of color serves as an indication of how Kendall’s activism and support for women are false as he unwittingly disrespects all the women of color in his life. Somehow, this commentary flew over many fans’ heads, though with Succession’s mostly white fanbase that claims they’re amazing at analysis, it isn’t too surprising.

While this strategy of showing how surface-level Kendall’s activism is effective, it also reduces the struggles of the few women of color on the show to a mere passing point and trivializes their experiences. Of course, the main plot of the show is the family drama and the struggle for power; however, Succession’s glaring problem with how it treats characters of color cannot keep going unchecked, or else it’ll keep devolving, which, considering what happened in season three to Berry, Lisa, Marcia, and Stewy, will be extremely difficult to watch. It would be great to see Succession make commentary about the mistreatment of people of color without treating its characters of color horribly. It can, instead, empower its characters of color without villanizing them and explicitly highlighting how the Roys’ discomfort with such instances is indicative of American corporate culture.

Especially since Succession’s popularity has skyrocketed with the release of the newest season and no doubt will garner more attention with season four, the show should really consider taking the opportunity to treat its characters of color with more respect and making more explicit commentary and criticism on whiteness in the corporate sphere. And if that means there’ll be less screentime for Connor Roy and his incoherent rambles, so be it.

Headcanon - Delta Nano development (along with some code expansion explanation)

THIS IS IT!! AT LAST!! THE MOMENT WE’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!!

This will be a headcanon explaining what “Delta Nano” is!! Finally touching up on it! If you saw my “Why Zero has Dark Powers” Headcanon post, I did mention this in passing. So, here we are! We’re talking about it now!

I didn’t know how to put it into words for the longest time since I’ve been developing this element in the AU for a LONG time. But I wanna keep a log of this so I don’t forget it.

Delta Nano is a power that emulates “magic” within Reploids. Meaning just power upgrades, but pertaining more to the elements. Like water, fire, air, earth, light and dark. Also you can thank my friend Hex for coming up with this name since I needed one for this (check out his blogs btw @thedoctorscreations and @ultraxuma - of course he has more than just those but those are some of his best character portrayals and good ocs and world building I swear it’s great!!)

It also connects to code expansion. Which I will also get into for this headcanon world building post. It all started with that, so I’ll get into it.

It goes back to the Robot Master Era, where Rock started fighting off against Wily’s plans of world domination. It’s kinda like that moment in the Archie Comics where he wanted to up and help Dr Light get those robot masters back. It’s like gaining free will, but then not. Since Blues kinda obtained the prototype version of that type of programming.

As time progresses, Rock’s code expands whenever he saves anyone, makes new friends, or learns something new about Blues and his direct family.

Even Blues’ code expands, but more naturally and not on a spur of the moment kind of epiphany like other robot masters including Rock.

Another to expand on this idea of the tech is Night Man. The Bat robot master designed for deep cave exploration built by doctor cossack after MM4 (That’s another post for another day, esp since he’s not my OC, I just muse him lmao)

Thing is, the Evil Energy we know from MM8 actually appeared much earlier here, Cossack finding the stuff, but not really knowing what it was, and it appearing to be just dark matter looking energy at first. Of course it only took until MM8 for Duo to appear to get that Evil Energy but since Wily finally was in possession of it, it was used under the wrong hands.

Of course, with that all being resolved, Night Man being free of the energy itself but keeping the powers to control with ease, the code expansions continue, especially throughout the Wanderer group Blues assembled (another headcanon for another day I’ll touch up on)

With all that code expansion of free will, that was mostly used as research for X’s creation, since his free will programming was set to be way more advanced than Blues’. The Delta Nano project, however, didn’t start development until after MM11 at Chronos Institute, Quint starting to appear in this time. I’ll also touch on him and ViA, don’t you worry~.

They knew there was potential with raw element powers for Robot Masters. Of course, that was already prominent, especially with robot masters involving electricity such as Elect Man, Fuse man, etc. But the powers would be of more natural elements than them just being generated.

Quint has gone all around time and space to find raw elements to use for this tech, which wasn’t even called Delta Nano yet until later on in the Reploid/Maverick Wars Era. Thing is, not much time was made to develop it when humanity had enough of robots causing havoc amongst them because of Wily and also partially because of Dr Light.

Chronos Institute was then destroyed and vandalized thanks to the Emerald Spears (yes they’re in this verse too lmao). By this point, their movement has reached more humans and Rock, his remaining family, and the remaining Wanderers had to go into hiding. Which was left in vain, since being in hiding left them more vulnerable for decaying faster and not having easy access to e-tanks or parts to repair themselves. Add another in depth headcanon to the list lmao.

Fast forward to 21XX where X and Zero are Maverick Hunters. By the time of X4, a woman named Linda Kleimann founded the Delta Nano Project. Having the information and research from Chronos Institute thanks to Quint. They decided to partner up and restart a new era of time skipping, and develop new tech for reploids.

She then created her own once the Timeless Accident Arc happening at the same time (an event of a time travel accident to the past that happens with Xev and Zero), whom she named Axl, a friend of hers also created a reploid of their own, whom they named Jericho Nox. He became part of the team and one of the first reploids to join in as such. He and Linda became very close friends.

Both of them together decided to create crystals that held the raw energy that produced the power ups. The “magic” induced into them, and only to their assigned holders. Axl was not only one of the prototypes for a new generation for copying Reploid DNA, but also for the Delta Nano Crystals. He was assigned Cyan, Lime, White and Yellow crystals. Which held earth, water and light qualities. The Lime Green provides the greenery of earth, Cyan p[rovides water, while the other two provide light energy. White is the pure light, yellow is lightning, and cyan is water.

Numerous tests are made, Axl and Linda bond as well. And they bond flawlessly, having a sort of mother/son relationship. He looks up to her for guidance. There were others who wanted to take Linda’s project and Axl, including Sigma. Which made Axl aware of his existence.

Linda then made sure that Axl would be safe from then on and continued the research harder than ever before, knowing of her poor reploid being possibly taken from her.

By the Eurasia Incident, just before it all spiraled out of control with the Sigma Virus, Lumine was finished being built, and when the Nightmare Incident rolls on in, a group called Red Alert heard of Axl’s potential and stole him and his crystals. Leaving Linda devastated that she lost someone she bonded with as her son. Though, she still had Lumine and his other four crystals he had.

His are Lavender, Black, Orange and Red. Black is the pure dark energy, powered with evil energy, in fact, which Duo had to come back to Earth for numerous times. You think he’d only come that ONE time in MM8, did ya? Lavender is the more concentrated version of it. More a synthetic version experimented with. Orange is fire energy, and red is a mixture of viscous red liquid. That is left ambiguous and left up to your imagination of what that may be~.

After he was activated in the duration of post X5, in the three year gap of Zero’s death, Linda’s been working with Lumine, especially finding out he has a terrible mutative maverick virus that’s corrosive. Putting him in quarantine to be terminated. When Xevdex was told Lumine needed to be terminated, the numb and grieving Blue Jay had no emotion in needing to do so.

Lumine had a hatred for the Maverick Hunters and X by extension. I’ll probably have a post dedicated to Axl and Lumine and their relation as brothers.

After Linda’s disappearance throughout the whole process of eliminating Lumine, all her efforts of protecting him being in vain, him escaping to the moon, Jericho took over the project, and the development proceeded as normal.

Soon, Delta Nano would be distributed as crystals, and X and Zero would eventually get one of each or more for themselves.

PHEWW!! That’s all I got there!! It’s a little messy but there’s a lot that goes on for this and I apologize for it taking so long to upload.

In fics their partner is usually portrayed as softer and more patient…but I want to see one who’s unafraid to call the boys out when they’re overworking or not taking care of themselves. Someone who has no qualms to go “you haven’t had a proper meal in DAYS eat your goddamn food” (esp to diluc lmao fire batman needs to rest)

"you're still awake." you deadpan, folding your arms over your chest as you watch your fiancé from the doorway. it's about 2:30 in the morning and diluc is still in his office, hunched over his desk with a mountain of paper work in front of him. you see his back straighten at the sound of your voice and he spins in his chair to get a better look at you.

"what are you doing up, darling?" he asks, his voice rich and honey-sweet. it's sickening, and not in a good way. you can see the way diluc blinks the fatigue away in an effort to soothe you, but it doesn't work. "are you having trouble sleeping? should i send someone to--"

your icy glare shuts him up immediately. if kaeya were here, he'd bust up about how the almighty diluc was silenced by nothing but a stern look. it'd be funny if you weren't so pissed off.

when you met diluc, you were the esteemed healer of the knights of favonius. your dendro healing capabilities were second to none in all of mondstadt, and adventurers who came from far and wide always came to you for premium treatment. you've seen some gruesome things over the years, but you've since grown numb to it, viewing each new injury as a learning experience. at some point, eight years ago, you thought you'd seen it all.

until you came across the battered body of the darknight hero.

"shit, shit, c'mon, breathe!" you pleaded as you desperately performed compressions on his chest. you had just finished your shift for the night when you heard the dying shriek of an abyss mage by mondstadt's gate. worried that the knights who killed it had gotten hurt, you rushed to their aid only to find a man with flaming red hair collapsed on the ground. you would have ruled it out as exhaustion if not for the fact that you couldn't see him breathing. you leapt into action and flipped the body over to scan him for further damage.

"dear archons," you swore.

you've seen some bad shit in your career. bennett, that poor boy, once came in with his leg crushed after another failed expedition; timaeus has come in (more than once, actually) after albedo accidentally botched some alchemical experiments, and so on. but nothing, nothing could have prepared you for the cryo damage you saw on the darknight hero's torso.

swallowing back the apprehension that never seemed to go away before healing someone, you reached over to check his pulse. when you felt nothing, you took a steadying breath. it's okay; you've dealt with patients like this. you can do this. you can still save him. you fumbled with his clothing and murmured a soft apology as you revealed the skin right over his heart.

fortunately, the cryo that spread across his body didn't seem to have reached his heart just yet, but if you lingered any longer, it would. you got right to work, hoping to at least kickstart his pulse. the flow of blood would raise his body temperature -- not by much, but it would be enough for you to continue healing elsewhere. so you started to perform cpr, lacing your fingers over his chest and began compressions.

that was fifteen minutes ago.

you refused to give up -- like hell you would give up! the darknight hero is... well, he's mondstadt's hero. he couldn't die here; you wouldn't allow it. "please wake up, you can do it..." you murmured to his unmoving body. you shut your eyes for a moment, scolding yourself for nearly considering him to be a corpse. you said a silent prayer to barbatos, begging for him to have mercy on the man beneath you.

a warm, gentle breeze rustled your clothes as you performed one more rescue breath. the very second your lips left the hero's, his body lurched and he gasped in a desperate effort to bring air into his lungs.

you did it.

you sat back on your haunches with a relieved gasp of your own. as much as you wanted to celebrate your success, your job wasn't done yet. "take slow breaths, sir. you just-- uh, what are you doing?"

the darknight hero, the man who literally just came back from the dead, was trying to get up and walk off. he groaned deeply as he rolled himself over and tried to push himself up onto his knees. "did... did you see," he panted, "my face?"

did you? you actually had no idea how to answer that, but the question made you frown. "who cares if i did?" you retorted. you grabbed his shoulders and slowly maneuvered him back down onto the ground. "you nearly died and that's the first thing you have to say?" you could feel him trying to resist you, but his muscles were too weak. it was a miracle he managed to turn himself over at all.

the crimson-haired man coughed. "it's... so cold. what happened?" he started to shiver and shake violently. you figured it was about time that he did.

"you're wasting your breath, sir." you scolded. you glanced at his face briefly. even if you wanted to see his face, you couldn't; there was a mask covering his eyes. but even with such a short look, you knew right away who the darknight hero really was.

really. if diluc ragnvindr wanted to hide his identity better, he should've worn a hooded cloak.

diluc didn't put up a fight after that. he actually drifted to sleep under the influence of your soothing dendro energy. it made the job easier. when he woke up, you sat him up and insisted that you escort him home. he fought you on it right away.

"you saw my face." he grunted. "why else would you offer something like that?"

"a thank you would be nice," you snapped back. you didn't wither under the intense glare he gave you from under his mask. you scoffed after a tense pause. "or not, i guess. you bring a man back to life and all you get is an angry stare." you mumbled to yourself as you stood and dusted off your clothes.

diluc's eyes followed your every movement. you could still feel the irritation rolling off of his weak frame in waves. "forgive my discourtesy," he said after a while. "is the escort offer still available?"

at least you know he isn't some self-absorbed asshole. you nodded and helped him back to the mansion, where adelinde ushered him inside with wide eyes. before leaving, you stopped her.

"make sure he doesn't leave this mansion for two weeks." you instructed. it wasn't a request; if he worked any more in that state, he was bound to hurt himself ever further.

adelinde's eyes jumped between you and the mansion. "oh... that's, um... i'll take it under advisement."

"i'm serious. i'll send someone from the cathedral with some medication; i better not have to save his life like that again."

you left without another word. it wasn't the first time you'd dealt with an ungrateful patient, but damn, he couldn't even spare a thank you? what a prick. if he ever comes back in, you swore you would push him off to some other healer -- you didn't want to have to put up with his shit.

needless to say, that didn't happen. you ended up coming to diluc's aid often after that (much too often, in your opinion). so often in fact, that a few years down the line, a heavily medicated diluc asked you to be his partner. you were livid with him for working himself to the bone again, but damn if the dopey grin he gave you when you accepted wasn't endearing as hell.

(he will deny that ever happened until the day he dies, but you remember. you'll always remember.)

back in the present day, diluc finally sighs through his nose at your angry silence. "honey, i can't figure out what's wrong if you don't tell me." he sounds so patient whenever he speaks to you. there's always unbridled affection that coats his words -- the kind of affection that's reserved for you and only you.

"do you seriously not know why i'm still awake?" you shoot back. you wait for him to figure it out. you've put up with his nonsense for years; if he honest-to-barbatos has no idea why you're upset with him, then you'd have to take drastic measures. "think, diluc. why else would i be awake at ass o'clock in the morning if i'm not working?"

your fiancé has the audacity to turn back to face his work. is he ignoring you? seriously? "diluc," you call. he doesn't answer. you feel your chest burn with white-hot anger.

"i'm a little bit busy right now, darling. i promise i'll finish up soon and come to bed--"

"bullshit!" your voice scares you, coming out much more shrill than you intended, but you've seriously had enough. for years, he would lie to you about his work habits -- about his vigilante work during his down time. for years, you've had to revive diluc again and again, watching him work himself to an early grave. you've brought him back from death once. you don't want to have to do it a second time.

you don't think you'll be able to, anyways. you sure as hell don't want to test that.

diluc jumps at your outburst, swiveling back around with a frown. "must you yell, darling?"

"don't you 'darling' me, diluc ragnvindr," you snarl his name, the pent-up frustration of years finally pouring out of you. "you always, always say that you're going to slow down, going to come to bed, going to rest, but you don't! you never fucking do! how many times are you going to lie to me? i'm tired, diluc!"

he's stunned into silence. you can't stop.

"all i want -- all i have ever wanted was for you to take a goddamn break. is that too much? am i asking for too much? do you want me to care less?" you wince at that last question. it pains you to even think about not caring about him -- not loving him.

but if he doesn't care for himself, there won't be anymore of him for you to love.

diluc opens and closes his mouth in search for an answer, but comes short. he can only say your name. "i... i'm sorry. i'll finish up for you in a moment--"

"how long is a moment supposed to be, diluc?

you caught him. he doesn't have an answer to that. you laugh derisively and turn on your heel, ignoring his calls of your name. "save it. sleep in here for all i care," you speak over your shoulder. you don't look back as you walk back into your shared room. you throw yourself on the bed with a loud groan.

you feel remorse for a moment, but no longer than that. you're right to be so upset with diluc; you've used so much of your energy trying to keep him safe whilst working non-stop at the favonius clinic. you can only take so much. your heart tugs painfully when you think about how much you yelled at him. you've never done that before, but if that's what it takes to get it through his head that you've had enough, then so be it.

you start to doze off about twenty minutes later, but just as your eyes begin to shut for the night, you hear the door to your room open. "adelinde?" you murmur as you sit up and rub your eyes. "is that you?"

"adelinde? that's the first name you call?"

it's diluc.

you must have gasped out loud, because diluc chuckles softly. "lay back down, darling. i'm coming." he says. you watch as diluc quietly prepares himself for bed and slides in beside you, resting his head on the pillow. crimson eyes peer up at you in the darkness. "are you not going to lay down?"

you glare weakly at him. "i dunno, am i?"

diluc sighs. "darling..."

"if you're doing this to appease me, then you may as well have slept in the guest room." you lay down with a huff, turning your back to him. you won't lie -- seeing him here in bed for the first time in three weeks was making your heart soar, but that doesn't erase what's already said and done.

a strong arm snakes around your waist and tugs you back until you hit a solid warmth -- diluc's chest. you can feel him breathing, and that alone brings you a little bit of peace. you don't give in, though. "what do you want?" you grumble.

lips ghost over the shell of your ear, sending shivers down your spine. you try your best to pretend that you didn't react.

"you were right," diluc whispers. he's so... close. you squirm in his hold. "i'll come to bed as soon as you do, and i'll stay as long as you want me to. how does that sound?"

"it sounds fine" gets caught in your throat. you don't know if you could believe him; he could be lying. it wouldn't be the first time. but... call it a gut feeling, but you feel like he's telling the truth this time.

and what kind of fiancé would you be if you didn't trust him?

you give up your fight and turn to face him, your brows still drawn. you all but slap one of your hands on his forehead, feeling his temperature. "fine," you murmur, "but tomorrow morning, i'm healing you before you go to work. don't think i didn't notice you stumbling when you changed your clothes."

you can see the pink rising to diluc's cheeks. "ah... alright."

you sigh. you'd never stop healing him -- you'd do it over and over for him in a heartbeat. but if he really, truly meant what he said, then you could stop. diluc was finally taking a step in the right direction, and that's all you wanted.

baby steps.

"hey, gorgeous. your favorite harbinger is back-- ow-- hey! easy! i'm an injured man, knock it off!"

you don't knock it off. you throw rolls of bandages in tartaglia's direction one after the other, emphasizing every word with each throw.

"why! do you! keep! coming! back here?!" you reach down for another bandage and huff when you see you've thrown all you had in stock. it wasn't much anyways. that thought only makes you angrier. you would have more bandages if a certain someone didn't keep coming back to the infirmary.

you knew what you were getting into when you became the resident healer for the fatui. you're busy as hell every single day, scurrying here and there as legionnaires and agents literally form lines outside your clinic to be healed.

you supposed that it was normal for grunts like them to need constant attention; the tsaritsa's missions were unforgiving, and when word of a meddling blonde traveler spread through zapolyarny palace, you eventually figured out what was causing the daily increase in patients.

you didn't mind, really! especially not since you, as a pyro vision holder, were well respected for your exceptional skills. you were valuable to all of the fatui, and despite the lack of genuine comraderie they had amongst their ranks, you still managed to befriend a few regulars.

you wish you didn't have regulars, but they were kind to you when they were being healed. you're allowed to have a soft spot, okay?

naturally, word got around that a certain pyro healer was sending patients away in top condition; it came as no surprise to you that the harbingers had heard of you. it was bound to happen at some point, so you didn't mind when la signora came to poke around your little space.

but then scaramouche paid you a visit, then dottore. he wasn't all that bad, contrary to what you've heard about him.

no, no; the worst of them was tartaglia.

he was the first (and the only, as you later learned) harbinger to come to you as a patient. you heard rumors of his unhinged personality, so you put your guard up as soon as you made eye contact. the line between you two was clear from the get-go, but tartaglia clearly had other plans.

"they never said our healer was easy on the eyes." he crooned as you patched him up. that flirty tone must work on others very well. you silently admitted that yes, you could understand why. tartaglia wasn't half bad himself, but you weren't the flirty type.

"while i appreciate your compliment, lord tartaglia," you replied in your best professional tone, "i'd rather you not show any sort of favoritism towards me. now, hold still -- this might burn a little."

tartaglia raised his eyebrows, clearly intrigued. you hadn't meant to peak his interest, but here you stood, channeling pyro energy to close his shallow wounds. he didn't flinch as you worked; he must have a high pain tolerance.

"you're the objective type. good to know." he mused when you were done. you hand him a few painkillers; he waved you off, but you insisted, so he took them without much fight. "will i be seeing you around, then?"

you were busy organizing your supply shelves, so you didn't look over your shoulder as you replied with a short "no."

the harbinger chuckled as he walked away. you were cute.

you were very cute to him; in fact, you were so cute that tartaglia found ways to injure himself every day in order to come and see you.

it goes without saying that you've since grown callous to his entire presence.

much like your other patients, you managed to form a bond with tartaglia, albeit a bit unwillingly. he made small talk while you dressed his wounds, asking you about everything from your favorite food to your family. he was nuisance in every sense of the word, but if you were being honest, he was really the highlight of your week.

unfortunately, you fell victim to his charms along the way.

in your defense, tartaglia has these bottomless blue eyes that are way too easy to get lost in. you only realized it when he came in for a black eye; you had no choice but to get a closer look, and only when he mentioned that you were quiet for too long did you realize that you were screwed. luckily for you though, he fell for you in return and confessed to you as you were cleaning up for the day.

it's a little thrilling, no? to be in a secret relationship with one of the most powerful men in snezhnaya. (it's not totally a secret, but you'd like to think it is.)

but why would you be throwing bandages at him? because you're sick of seeing him hurt all the time.

you're well aware that tartaglia has a high pain tolerance. he's supposed to have one -- it's kind of in the fine print of being a harbinger. but just because he can handle it doesn't mean you like it. most of the time he sees you in the clinic, he's got some surface wound that needs nothing more than a bandage, but even those leave scars.

high pain tolerance or not, you know it hurts him. he's too careless with himself, and you can't stand it. some days, he comes in genuinely needing help.

like today, for example. he may be laughing at you for throwing all those bandages, but you can see the sag in his shoulders, the way he's bracing himself on the wall, and oh archons, he's passing out--

tartaglia drops to one knee with a soft grunt. he's clearly trying to fight whatever it is that's ailing him, but it'll be a cold day in hell (and an even colder day in snezhnaya, if that was even possible) before you let him try to charm his way out of proper care. you rush to his side and help him over to the bed, where you push him down. it should've taken more effort on your part to knock him over, but he pretty much collapses with the gentlest touch.

"look at you," he pretty much wheezes, "got me falling for you all over again."

"shut up." you hiss. you quickly locate everything you might need before grabbing your clipboard and a pen. "you know the drill, tartaglia; shirt off."

your boyfriend wiggles his eyebrows at you. "if you want me naked, you're gonna have to wait until we're off the clock, sweetheart."

that's his way of saying he can't. you roll your eyes and help him out of his shirt before taking notes on his heart rate, blood pressure, and all the other essentials. and then he tells you the last time he ate and slept for longer than four hours.

"damn you, ajax, you can't keep doing this!" you throw your clipboard aside as you channel pyro energy to your palms. your vision, full of boundless energy, is capable of transferring energy from one source to another. you give tartaglia as much as you can without overwhelming him before sitting at the bedside. "i told you to give it a rest -- why won't you listen?"

tartaglia doesn't meet your eyes. it's that vacant expression again. "i have a job to do, you know that."

"you can't do that job if you're dead, ajax."

"i won't die, though." he looks at you blankly, but you can see the irritation building. "that's your problem; you seem to take me for some weakling. i'm fine, i--"

you slap his shoulder with all your strength. tartaglia winces, and neither of you say anything. you shouldn't be able to make him flinch at all, and yet here he is, rolling his shoulder back to ease the sting.

"fine? the ajax i know would've laughed at me for doing that."

tartaglia -- no, ajax -- sighs. he's a smart man; he knows when he's beat. "fine, doc. what's your recommendation?"

you close your eyes for a moment. he was clearly about to chew you out for underestimating him, but that was going to be a conversation for another day. for now, he needed your help, and you were going to do your best.

when you finish all your suggestions and stand to grab some more supplies, ajax raises an eyebrow at you. "what?" you ask. "did i miss something?"

ajax shakes his head. "no, it's just... you're good at your job." he drops his chin into his palm as he examines you. now that he's feeling better, he's back on his usual shit, ocean blue eyes raking your figure. "it's kinda hot, actually."

you flush against your will and throw a pill bottle at his head, which he catches with a laugh. "what, i can't admire you at work?"

"you can admire me all you want when i'm not working, okay?

another chuckle, but deeper this time. "is that a promise?"

you don't know how you put up with this man. "if it means you'll sleep for now, then yes."

there's some shuffling. you watch as ajax quickly makes himself comfortable. you can't help but laugh. at least he's resting. "i'm not gonna sleep, though!" he says from under the blankets.

he does. he's out after five minutes.

Ben 10 lore that exists in my heart regardless of canon

- Ben’s personality in his mid-late teens is a mix of his Alien Force and Omniverse self. On the surface, he’s very cheerful and kind even if he is a bit of arrogant showoff. He makes jokes and plays around and acts as if he isn’t bothered by the things in his life. Those who know him best understand a good portion of his outward confidence and cockiness is just a facade to cover up his insecurities and to project the ideal, effortless hero. While sometimes seen as immature, most beings know Ben 10 means business as he takes his unofficial job and people’s safety very seriously. He’s clever, adaptable, charismatic and empathetic which makes him a formidable opponent and a loyal friend. Doesn’t open up easily but if you get to him, he become so dearly attached.

- Drinks smoothies so much for several reasons. Comfort food go brrr, reminds him of the good easy times with him Gwen and Kev. It’s also a light but generally nutritous food to give him energy for heroing. Anything too heavy and he’ll be puking (both from physical and emotional stress). Though he jokes about his mom’s health foods, his are a crazy concoction of add in proteins and vitamins/minerals bc he knows he’ll out and out collapse without it. (Still has on occasion bc boy still doesn’t eat right/enough)

- While Fame is exciting for him at first he soon begins to detest it. Not the fans, no, he can’t bring himself to hate the people who look up to him. But he hates the constant attention, that he can’t walk outside without being mobbed. the only place he feels safe is his hometown where most people are so used to him and his weirdness that they don’t react much anymore. Takes to wearing a cape and face shield when going out anywhere so he can actually get things done without being recognized and mobbed.

- Part of the reason Bellwood isn’t concerned with Ben is partially because ben’s been weird and alien for as long as they can remember but also many don’t realize how famous/powerful he is. Yeah that’s just Ben Tennyson over there, sometimes he turns into funny creatures- wait what do you MEAN he’s the savior of the universe?? He cried over a spilled smoothie the other day.

- Does mostly online schooling by the time he’s 15. At first he tries to do half day things to maintain something of a normal life but it quickly becomes overwhelming and dangerous him/the school. Finishes his GED early but the Plumbers and Azmuth make him take additional college level and alien courses to prepare him for his future role. Ben gripes but really does love learning all these things, especially on his terms (ADHD and stress + the public school system do not always go hand in hand). He’s a quick learner when he deems the information important and is made accessible to his learning needs.

- Ben definitely has ADHD speaking of which, it was nearly uncontrollable as a child bc his free-spirited parents didn’t believe in medicating. Ben convinced them he needed it and after some trial and error, found meds that worked. As he became more involved in heroics/growing up he had to change his medicine regimen (resulting in him being a bit more off the rails in OV) and needed antidepressants and therapy to manage it better. As an adult he has a whole litany of coping mechanisms (good and bad yes) and regularly checks in with his therapist and doctors to keep things under control.

- Has a complicated relationship with his necrofriggian children. Considers himself their mother and worries after them. They too feel a connection to their parent despite this being unusual for their species. A few visit (some more than others) while they grow while others maintain distance. Ben never breathes a word of them to the media for fear of them being targeted. Still he keeps an eye on them and ensures all 14 mature to adulthood (another rarity for the species). Checks in every now and again with the ones who don’t want to see him and those that do. Two join the Plumbers and Ben is both proud and worried. His youngest becomes partners with Rook Ben.

- Just in general loves kids, they’re his favorite fans and while he’ll grumble at pushy adult fans he always smiles and kneels down for the little ones. Not so secretly wanted to have children of his own but knew it was a risk overall and used a lot of that energy with mentoring and teaching. Eventually had Kenny later in life (late 30s-40s) and was over the moon, becoming such a loving and doing parent or as much as he could be with his hectic schedule.

- Omnitrix can’t come off, never has at any point since it first latched onto Ben’s arm. Azmuth tried and failed to get the device off, doesn’t let Ben know for many years as he feared the consequences. The watch loves and protects Ben even beyond it’s programming making him much more durable to damage and releasing energy charges when he’s threatened. Not even removing Ben’s arm would separate them. They’re stuck for life.

- Ben does have Anodite heritage but the Omnitrix actively suppresses it and uses the built up energy to power the transformations which is why ben is mostly unaffected by what should cause a massive energy drain on him. Theoretically if Ben learned to harness and safely use his Mana at an early age like Gwen he would have been fine but letting it build up without safe outlet meant activation would have killed him. Omnitrix Ben, however, went his whole life not knowing of his latent abilities and how the watch saved his life.

- Ben’s eyes get more green and glowy as time passes from the Omnitrix. At first they think its a trick of the light but by the time he’s an adult his eyes are pretty much glow in the dark. His veins light up too after long stretches of using the Omnitrix. Its vaguely unsettling to people who aren’t used to Ben.

- Max and the Earth Plumbers work so, so hard to keep teen Ben on Earth when half the universe is blowing up their comm lines asking for The Ben 10 to help with whatever problem of the day. Ben himself doesn’t quite understand when he’s younger the prestige and expectations on his shoulders. Max throws up a million and one roadblocks so Ben can live as normal a life as possible while he still can. Still, while doing that he Still overloads Ben with expectations and responsibilities on earth and beyond. He becomes a soldier again with Ben as their greatest weapon. He never forgave himself of losing sight of his grandson underneath the hero esp after Ben’s breakdown.

- Rook partnership with Ben ends not long after Omniverse with his promotion to Magister. Ben tries to play it cool but the thought of another loved one/teammate leaving his tears him apart. Max revealing that Ben most likely wouldn’t get a new Plumber assigned partner since he’s almost an adult and won’t need it and Rook accidentally missing their last smoothie run due to a scheduling mishap causes Ben to snap and have the nervous breakdown that had been building for almost a decade. He completely loses it for a little while and needs to take an extended leave of absence from school and heroics that lasts about a year. Spends time recovering both on Earth and Galvan Prime, does some diplomatic training, learns about aliens, actually confronts the stress and loneliness of his life. He comes out the other side stronger but still fragile and exhausted.

- Ben’s above mentioned breakdown brings him closer to all his friends who didn’t quite realize the extent of Ben’s burden. Rook had been under the impression Ben didn’t like him all that much so the knowledge that his departure was the final straw for friend/hero’s collapse was shocking. Ben and Azmuth also become closer, the Galvan becoming fiercely protective of the boy seeing as his Earth family didn’t do well to keep him safe. It takes years for him to get over his anger at Max for putting so much on his grandchild. Ben makes more friends, in and out of the hero business, finally gets a therapist and gets some of his burdens eased a bit. It’s not a sure fire fix and Ben has several smaller breakdowns the rest of his life but its something.

- Azmuth was straight up suicidal before he met Ben for the first time. Ben gave him back hope for the universe and his ability to create items for peace not weapons. The boy infuriates him, frightens him, frustrates him but Azmuth cannot deny in his heart of hearts that he loves Ben dearly. He’s very upset at Ben’s breakdown and doesn’t know how to handle the worst of the initail outbursts. Azmuth talks Ben down from a suicide attempt. He reaches out to Ben that he Too felt overwhelmed by pressure, thought himself only good for war. Ben’s arrival in his life saved him and now he will do the same for Ben. It’s the first positive step forward in Ben’s recovery.

- For no other reason than I like it, Azmuth primarily refers to Ben as Benjamin (mostly to annoy the kid but he likes the way it sounds too) and Ben in softer, more serious moments.

- Professor Paradox continues to flit in and out of Ben’s life. He says its because Ben is the most equipped to handle universal peril (true) but he’s also just very fond of the boy. Ben, existing in so many forms and having such importance also exists a beat outside of normal reality which Paradox identifies with. Ben is naturally attuned to time related problems because of this (instantly IDing Spanner as from the future before being told later deducing him to be his unborn son). Plus Ben named him, way back when. He’s just drawn to Ben.

- Adult Ben, while being seen as an impressively skilled fighter and champion, really has his strength as a universal diplomat of sorts. Based out of Earth, he helps mediate and defuse conflicts, advocate against tyranny and overall preserve peace and balance. He’s not perfect, he makes mistakes and sometimes is forced to become violent (and yes kill) but overall is regarded as a peacekeeper, something younger ben simply couldn’t understand.

- Gwen gets her degree and primarily does work with advocacy and teaching about magic/alien culture. While she and Ben are still close, there’s a bit of a frustrated divide in that she isn’t helping him share the burden of the universe. Gwen never wanted to be a hero and has enough worth to not shackle herself to a job that’ll burn her out. Ben loves heroing but gives too much of himself away trying to fix everything. They get into screaming arguments that it wouldn’t be so bad out there if she just helped him but she refuses to budge and says he shouldn’t make himself do so much. They always make up and thy still are each other’s closest relationships.

- Ben marries Kai in a political move, Kai is Asexual and Ben Aromantic. They didn’t love each other but they got on well enough and Ben was really feeling the stress of carrying the hero burden so Kai also being involved made him feel like he wasn’t alone. Both were also so tired of the universe constantly asking about their love life and said ‘fuck it we’re married leave us alone’. Gwen was always mad about it feeling Ben deserved better but the two of them were happy with it. They had separate rooms, mostly separate lives but they became strong friends and supports with their strictly platonic marriage. They had Ken via Invitro in an incubator and were loving if extremely busy parents.

- Also from the moment he appeared, Ben knew that Spanner was his future son, Kenny. He played ignorant and then was kind of deliberately teasing him in future encounters. He knew the rules of time and didn’t want to disrupt things further even if he was angry and worried as heck about why Ken felt the need to time travel. When future Ben catches up in the timeline, Kenny gets SUCH a lecture.

- Ben isn’t quite immortal but he’s also not entirely human anymore either. The Omnitrix not only keeps him safe from most harm but it lightens the effect of aging. Ben 10 is active many, many years when most humans would have been forced to retire. He’s not sure how long the watch will keep him alive and it terrifies him. Gwen too is functionally immortal however she ages like a normal human, then when her natural death came, shed her skin and became a fulltime Anodite. So in the end, it was her and Ben together wondering which of them will die first. Gwen has trouble retaining her humanity as pure energy and swears she’ll let herself fizzle out when Ben goes. When that’ll be however...

Me, clapping my hands: SUPPORT COURSE IZUKU! SUPPORT COURSE IZUKU!! ...WITH A PROSTHETIC!!

I’m sure people have had this idea before but I wanted to put my own spin on it!! And now for the info:

-Izuku's been fascinated with heroes since a young age. However, after finding out he was quirkless, he refused to give up, and switched gears to start investing in the support field. He figured if he couldn't be a pro hero he could at least do his best to help them and be a hero in his own way.

-Izuku's an absolute GENIUS when it comes to inventing--he's on par with Hatsume. However, Hatsume focuses more on support items that break convention and are very innovative and unique. Izuku's focus is more on items that actually help heroes on the field and support their bodies, and items that also allow them to use their quirks to their full extent while still being able to control them properly. (Basically, Izuku's gadgets act as a control stick for heroes that go all out i.e. Toshi.) He also makes a lot of gadgets that support disabled heroes, because--

-Izuku has a prosthetic arm! It's his right one. This was the result of a villain attack that he got involved in after meeting All Might. Toshi blames himself for what happened to Izuku because he couldn't get there in time. He and Izuku are very close--Izuku knows the secret behind Toshi's appearance and he knows about One For All. Mirio is the one to inherit OFA in this AU--so Izuku's very close to him as well! Izuku makes support items for both Toshi and Mirio, to support their quirks. Izuku's gadgets have saved Toshi in a pinch a hundred times over, and are designed to support him when he needs that extra push when he's already reached his limit.

There is more ahead~

-After Izuku lost his arm in the villain accident, Bakugou does a total 180 and starts treating him better. From the start their relationship was less strained than in canon bc Izuku went into doing stuff for support early on, and Bakugou didn't see this as much as a threat compared to if Izuku still wanted to be a pro hero despite being quirkless. Nowadays Bakugou is VERY protective of Izuku--and both of them have reached a point where they're genuine friends. Izuku teases Bakugou a lot and easily snarks back at him when he's being a little shit. Bakugou won't ever admit it openly but Izuku is his best friend :') He cares about him a lot. He used to defend Izuku constantly back in middle school after the accident, but Izuku soon learned to stand up for himself.

-Going off of that, Bakugou taught Izuku how to fight physically, and they try to spar once or twice a week if they can! It's good practice. Izuku was awful at it at first especially since his sense of balance was off due to the weight of the prosthetic, but Bakugou's a good teacher despite all his shouting lmao. Now Izuku can easily hand his ass to him if he gets into it enough. He can handle himself in a fight pretty brilliantly, even against villains, and Class 1-A quickly learns not to underestimate him.

-Bakugou refuses to get support items from anybody else but Izuku. He bitches at Izuku a lot but Izuku always takes his advice--Bakugou usually offers good tips and pointers on how to improve his gauntlets! Baku always says that while Izuku fucks up all the time (false), he at least trusts him enough to get the job done, while he scorns the rest of the support course fnjdsdd

-Since Izuku isn't in Class 1-A in this AU--guess who is? Yeah, it's Shinsou! Besides Baku Shinsou is probably Izuku's other closest friend, along with Hatsume! Shinsou's got a crush on Izuku and probably knows it won't be reciprocated, but he's fine with that. If Shinsou isn't in class he's most likely hanging out in the development studio with Izuku and Hatsume. The three of them are kinda like a mini Big Three haha, they've got a reputation around UA

-Do not put Izuku and Hatsume in the same room together or they'll bounce insane ideas off of each other and create outrageous things. They get each other super fired up LMAO and go to each other for advice when they need it!

-Izuku has the biggest, most obvious and absolutely endearing crush on one (1) Shouto Todoroki. Bakugou teases him about it CONSTANTLY. The reason for this is because they actually met back in middle school, before Izuku lost his arm--and Todoroki just made a really memorable impression on him bc he was the first person to ever treat him really kindly (they bumped into each other on accident because Izuku was getting chased by bullies, Izuku scraped up his hands, Todoroki chased off the bullies and then iced his injuries, and then they had a really deep conversation about heroes and encouraged each other). Todoroki kinda becomes Izuku's first love in that sense;; ofc it's nothing super serious but Izuku definitely feels all floaty and happy about it afterward. When Izuku gets into UA and notices that Todoroki's in the hero course he almost has a stroke because 1. Izuku gave him encouragement to get into UA waaaay back then and he's shocked Todoroki actually took his advice, 2. He finds out that Todoroki is in fact Todoroki bc they never gave each other their names, so Izuku's Shook his "first love" is actually the son of Endeavor, and 3. Todoroki's grown. He was pretty back in middle school but now. He's hot. HE'S HOT OH NO. After that Izuku keeps noticing him and hears rumors that Todoroki is an ice cold prince type character that has no real feelings. Izuku's like "Someone who takes the time out of their day to save you, heal your hands, and encourage you on your path to be a hero can't be that type of person" so Izuku just KNOWS Todo's actually a very kind boy. Izuku keeps watching him and gets super smitten after the Sports Festival ;) But he's like "He's practically famous, he'd never notice somebody like me, he probably doesn’t even remember me from middle school, haha" (so it's a bit like a celebrity crush). Shinsou and Hatsume bug him about his crush just to see him get flustered and it's very cute lol

-The second time Izuku and Todoroki meet is a goddamn mess and technically counts as their first because Todoroki has a shit memory and can't connect Izuku's face to the boy he met in middle school (also that boy definitely had two flesh arms and Izuku only has one). Todoroki walks in right as one of Izuku's gadgets explodes, absolutely showering him in dust and soot. Izuku freaks out and apologizes a lot while he helps him clean up (while Hatsume is teasing in the background). Note that Izuku's only wearing like a tanktop and sweats, and his hair is all messy and swept back especially since he's wearing his trademark goggles, he's covered in sweat and dirt, he has a really cool looking prosthetic (and Todoroki didn't realize he'd have a thing for that but apparently he does), and Izuku's really fucking toned so Todoroki has a big ol Gay Crisis right there in the development studio. Izuku is INCREDIBLY attractive and Todoroki doesn't know what to do with that info. After Izuku cleans up and manages to get an order for a support item out of Todo, Todo leaves and immediately texts Momo saying, "Yaoyorozu, I think I just had my gay awakening" and on the other side of campus, Momo chokes on her drink. Meanwhile back in the studio Izuku is SCREAMING like "Oh my GOD did that really just happen--did Shouto Todoroki walk in, get blasted by one of my inventions going haywire, let me clean him up and TOUCH HIS CHEST, HATSUME, I GOT TO FEEL HIM UP, and THEN HE ASKED ME TO TAKE AN ORDER, I'M GOING INTO CARDIAC ARREST. TELL MY MOTHER AND TOSHI I LOVED THEM AND TELL TODOROKI I'M SORRY FOR GETTING HIS PERFECT BEAUTIFUL HAIR DIRTY" and she's just laughing her ass off LMAOOOO

-It isn't until their third meeting that Izuku realizes Todoroki doesn't seem to remember him at ALL. And it stings, a lot (but he kinda figured this would happen esp since Todo didn’t recognize him the last time they talked), but he's still happy for the chance to know him now, and get to design support items for him!! Meanwhile Todo's like. Starting to catch on that maybe he DOES know Izuku after all? He isn't sure? But he's definitely falling for him.

I’ve got more headcanons and stuff but yeah this is all the basics!!! I got so excited to flesh this AU out and make designs fnasjkbdnasds it’s definitely gonna be a fun one to play around with!

I want to either call this the Support Course Hero AU or maybe just Support Hero AU would work--what do you guys think?
