Guardian Bingo Fest fill for the 'promise' prompt on my card.
Based on subs by Kayoku and Solo
I might actually be able to stop inflicting my episode 40 feelings on everyone now I won't need to keep checking it for references. This took 3 months between my bouts of doubt and the general headache of sewing on organza and damn spandex. (don't buy fabric online when the description is vague as to the actual material it's made of just because the design is what you want kids!) The spandex in particular was horrific, -10/10, do Not recommend. I had to write the text on the back so I could actually see it and then sew the other side, not a challenge I'm in a rush to repeat. If you see any stray threads/damaged organza... no, you don't.

Not to be too cranky about it, but I really cannot recommend "Period Patterns" brand sewing patterns for people interested in historic costuming.
I was looking for a pattern for a Renaissance hoop-supported purse, like the white one worn on his belt here by this 1557 Austrian nobleman. I thought I could draft it on my own, if I needed to, but having the ... I dunno, authority of an official pattern made me feel a little less nervous about essaying it.
Period Patterns sells a pattern no. 93 for bags, purses, and pouches which looked like it would be promising. That's a lot of different bags, including ones very close to what I was looking for. And after all, having all those extra patterns would be cool and useful too. Right?
Unfortunately, the patterns were rudimentary at best. I really could have done as well on my own.
Even worse, oh dear, the INSTRUCTIONS, the instructions were cryptic and, well, basically useless:
These instructions might imply to you that they point to more detailed, more comprehensive directions somewhere else in the package. I assure you, they do not. Those "Methods" and "steps" referred to are cryptic shorthands themselves and no more illuminating than these enigmatic typed lists.
In the end I worked out my own pattern after all and made the bag myself from scratch. It's rather larger than the wee thing in the original, since I needed it to serve as a practical purse-substitute, but I think overall it has a similar vibe.

So I'm moving across the country in the next coming weeks which has brought me to downsizing my craft bins and going through my huge collection of paints and wool and fabrics. If you don't hear back from me assume I drowned in embroidery suppplies.
