At times, I interact with people and think, "wow, I'm so embarassing, I hate myself."

At times, I realize, I don't actually hate myself. The people I interact with are the ones to actually make me think that. Their cold and negative reaction is what makes me feel inadequate.

"Weird" or "inconvenient" or "uncomfortable to be around" are not intrinsic qualities that autistics have; it's a label given by neurotypicals.

That doesn't take away from the struggle of being the odd one out in this mostly neurologically homogenous society, but you still have to remember that it's not autism that hurts you the worst, it's the cruel people and the world they built for themselves, but forgot to include us. You're not bad or embarassing or cringey, and neither am I. You're good. Just different. Be well.

There were some things Connor didn’t like to think about. As an android, it was quite easy to shut away these topics in little boxes in his mind, neatly sorted away.

One of them was Amanda. Of course, that box would open itself up sometimes, despite the fact she and the control she could exert over his programming was gone… it would open itself up and play back images in his mind whilst he went into stasis.

The point of these boxes, however, were to protect himself, and for the most part, they worked. Never in his waking moments would he have to experience the unpleasant feelings they brought.

Of course, never… well, never experiencing them in a perfect world. And the world was far from perfect.

Mortality was another.

He knew he could not die, instead his body would be fractured beyond repair and if he did not upload his memories, he would cease to exist. That’s what the more logical side of his mind tried to argue, anyway.

The side unlocked by deviancy, well, it quivered in the face of fatal danger, it took the fears of no longer experiencing the world, no longer experiencing at all, and locked it away in a vault.

Connor supposed that’s why he’d never even thought to breach the subject of human mortality.

In hindsight, maybe he should have at least acknowledged it.

 It was a Monday. Late afternoon, and the weather in Detroit was less than optimal. Rain was pouring down, making every known surface slippery with moisture. Hank, as predicted, was grousing about it.

“Fucking weather. Fucking rain. Fucking criminals.”

Of course, Connor couldn’t deny that it was rather unfortunate they were on their way to a crime scene, a murder that had been committed outside rather than in the comfort of a rain-free building.

“It is rather loud.” He commented, listening to the raindrops hammering onto the roof of the car. “I can’t even hear your music, which is at a few decibels above the recommended levels of—”

“Rain?” Hank scoffed. “I can’t hear it over the stick up your ass.”

Connor pursed his lips, still in the process of reaching to turn down the music. “If I had a proverbial stick up my ass, I don’t believe it would make a sound.”

Hank laughed. Pulling the car into park, he was still chuckling. “I just… can’t get over the sound of you swearing.”

He raised a brow, smirking. “Would you like me to say it again, Lieutenant?”

“Please don’t.”

Hank’s good mood was gone again as they got out of the car, expression souring as the rain pelted down onto his head.

Connor found it was even more troublesome as he crouched down beside the body to analyse it. Whilst a small tent had been set up over it, the rain had already done enough damage to wash away vital evidence.

“All blood on the body belongs to the victim, Caria Moltoz.” He sighed, rubbing his hands on his trousers as he got up. “However, the sample is fresh, and along with evidence shown by the wounds… I don’t think the crime was committed all that long ago. We may still be able to find evidence of the killer on the nearby security feeds.”

Hank nodded, turning to go and find these feeds, before noticing Connor’s LED was swirling yellow, eyes flickering rapidly. He was about to express concern, until the android suddenly turned to him.

“I have accessed the cameras and have reviewed the footage—”

“Of course you have.”

“—and I believe the suspect is not too far away from this location.”

  And so, they made their way to the direction Connor had viewed their suspect going in. They had appeared to duck into a nearby clothes store, which unfortunately was quite large.

“At least we’re getting out of the rain.” Hank sighed in relief as they entered the building, placing his coat on the rack so he didn’t track water all over the store.

Connor shook a little, reminding him of Sumo coming in from a walk after the rain. At Hank’s look, he frowned and placed his own jacket onto the rack. “Apologies, Lieutenant. I forgot I am no longer wearing my Cyberlife jacket. It was waterproof.”

“Looked shit, though.”

He nodded. “I agree.”

 The store was fairly busy, with handfuls of customers here and there. No one had any recollection of a human running inside the store in a hurry, so the suspect must have kept their cool.

Luckily, they were fairly undercover themselves, so it was unlikely the suspect would see them with suspicion and find a way to slip out unnoticed.

“They were wearing a navy blue coat along with dark jeans when I viewed the footage,” Connor whispered to Hank through a stand of clothes which they were pretending to browse through, “but I cannot see anyone of that description in this store.”

Hank nodded, eyes scanning over the room himself, before he spotted something. “Wait here.” he said, taking a black shirt off the hook and making his way towards the changing rooms.

Connor nodded, data piecing together in his mind, forming a conclusion when the older man came back over to him, navy blue coat in his arms along with other items of clothing.

“The suspect changed. Unfortunately, then, I didn’t manage to get a look at their face on the footage, it was covered partially…”

“We’ll get ‘em.”

Deciding it was in their best interest to drop the undercover act, they had the store manager close up briefly, keeping everyone inside for questioning.

“It won’t take long.” Hank placated the disgruntled shoppers.

They made their way through the groups, Connor using his questioning tactics to try and find out who it was. He kept an eye on everyone’s stress levels, including those they weren’t currently talking to, but nothing changed drastically. There were no signs of a killer among them.

“Yeah, thank you for your time.” Connor could tell that Hank was trying to keep the bitterness out of his tone as the shop opened up again. He shared the feeling. They’d spent all this time searching, probably on what would be their best lead to solve this case, and they had nothing.

“Fuck. Well… at least whilst we’re here, I could do with a new coat. This one barely kept the rain out.”

“That’s the spirit, Lieutenant.”

Hank made his way over to the displays, pointing at a brown overcoat. “That looks like it’d suit me. Maybe not the hat, though,” he laughed, pointing to the fedora perched atop the mannequins head. He reached for it, pulling it—

Connor shouted at the same time the mannequin moved, pulling a gun out of the pocket of the brown overcoat, shoving Hank to the side just as the shot went off, and another.

People screamed. The suspect managed to run out of the store, skidding out into the rain, away, away, away…

Connor didn’t move. Why wasn’t he moving? He needed to move. Needed to chase away the…

He groaned. Something flashed in his vision, red and warning. A damaged biocomponent. Huh. Maybe that���s why it hurt.

He was losing thirium, however, it wasn’t fatal, not yet. “Hank, we need to get them, they’re…”

That was strange. Why wasn’t Hank answering? Usually he pushed Connor back to the ground, telling him he’s injured, that he should stay down and wait for him to come back.

But there was nothing.

Panic coursed through his systems. Despite the hot flare that spiked in his side when he moved, he didn’t stop, not until he saw Hank—

Hank, laying beneath him. And there was blood. There was a lot of blood. Red, flowing on the floor, soaking into his coat, staining the fibres and the bits of Sumo hair caught in the fabric—

“Hank!”

He couldn’t focus. He might get repaired, but Hank couldn’t. He… humans didn’t live forever. Would he die? Would Hank die here, on the floor of a clothing store in Detroit, whilst Connor could do nothing to stop it?

The wound. Right. The wound. He grabbed the nearest thing he could find (a scarf) and pressed it against the wound. He had to stop the bleeding. Staunch the flow. Stop Hank from dying—

His grasp was weak. Stupid, it was weak. It was the damn wound in his side, thirium leaking out of it steadily, it was making his hands shake and his brain go fuzzy.

“Hank.” He tried again. The Lieutenant didn’t stir. He could see he was breathing, but was if he stopped? What if he died?

Sirens. Sirens were loud, he noted, hands shaking, blood caking his fingers, getting stuck up his artificial nails. Someone was pulling him away. They seemed comforting, but they were pulling him away from Hank, and their words were distant, sucked away in a vacuum—

“Please, you have to save him,” Connor choked out, “he can’t die—he can’t—”

The hands tugged, and with his fading strength, Connor let them. He hoped they would save Hank. And if they didn’t, he mused internally, blackness creeping in the edges of his vision, the warning messages getting dimmer, then he would like to join him.

 The first thing Connor registered upon waking was that he wasn’t dead.

The second thing was that he couldn’t see Hank.

He sat bolt upright, finding himself restrained slightly by a tube attached to his side, along with multiple wires across his body. Connor didn’t register where he was—the sheer panic from before starting to creep back into him.

He tore the wires out, before beginning to tug on the tubing. However, before he could get it dislodged, alarms set off by his disturbance had alerted people to his struggle. Some technicians ran in, shouting something about blue blood. But he couldn’t think about that right now, whatever damage he had sustained; he couldn’t see Hank.

Hank was dead.

Connor pulled on the tubing with more force, only stopping when gentle hands clasped around his arm.

“Connor, you need to calm down. You’re going to hurt yourself.”

The words were steady, despite the situation, filled with comfort, and the voice was familiar.

“Let the technicians plug the wires back in, they’re helping you. Just… easy…”

He couldn’t yet put a name to the voice, but he complied, allowing himself to be eased back onto the bed. If Hank was dead… there was nothing he could do about it anyway.

He stopped his struggling but couldn’t stop the tears slipping from beneath his lashes. His body shuddered minutely, hand scrubbing over his face. As everything became more in focus, he looked up to the voice, and saw Markus.

Markus met his eyes, and his gaze softened. As soon as the technicians were done, he ushered them out of the room before perching on the side of the bed Connor was laying on.

“What’s wrong, Connor?”

He took a breath. Opened his mouth, then closed it again. His thoughts were incoherent. The box was open, tipping its jumbled contents all over his mind, and he couldn’t string the words together. In the end, he mumbled, “Hank.” Voice breaking in the middle of the syllable.

Markus nodded. “I know you must have panicked not seeing him here, but rest assured, he’s safe. You saved him, actually. The shot you blocked would have hit—well,” he softened his words upon seeing Connor’s expression, “you saved his life.”

Connor furrowed his brows, looking down at his hands. They were clean. “But… there was so much—so much blood. Hank’s blood.”

The other android grimaced. “Yes, the wound he sustained did hit some arteries, but nothing major. He will need a fair amount of time to recover, as will you, but he’s stable.”

“That’s… good.” Connor breathed, suddenly feeling the urge to change the subject. “But—recover? I thought my systems would be able to self-heal.”

Markus shrugged. “The technicians said that you will be able to self-heal the damage now given adequate thirium, but because the damage was to a major biocomponent, it will take time.”

He nodded. That made sense. At least it would give him an excuse to stay home with the Lieutenant whilst he recovered.

“He’s lucky he didn’t die. I’m… lucky.” Connor breathed after a moment of thought.

Markus placed a hand gently on his shoulder. “Humans are fragile. That’s why he has you.”

“But one day… I might not…”

“You’re not perfect, Connor.” The RK800 blinked at that, taken aback. “No one is. But you didn’t fail today, and you won’t tomorrow. Besides, Hank is a skilled detective.”

Connor breathed in deeply. Markus’ words made sense. But now the box was tipped out, his mind was rifling through its contents. Mortality.

“Even so, the Lieu—Hank won’t live forever.”

Markus smiled sadly. “No, he won’t.” He agreed. “Someday, neither will we.  But that isn’t what living is about, Connor, not thinking about death.” A pause. “What do you enjoy doing with Hank?”

He thought over it. “I like working on cases with him. But- right, other than work. Well, we do watch movies together in the evenings; he usually ends up falling asleep halfway through them, but it’s—well, it’s endearing. And sometimes he comes along with me when I’m walking Sumo, we stop in the park…” he drifted off into the memory, looking to the ceiling, eyes starting to feel heavy, tired out from the wound and the exertion.

“That’s what life is about, Connor.” Markus said softly, hand moving away from his shoulder, briefly trailing over his forehead and pushing the stray strands of hair to the side. He smiled.

George and his two best friends have been sent on a neckbreaking mission to catch the most dangerous criminal in the kingdom of Rua. Guided by compasses and orders from the King, they’re determined to catch up very, very soon.”

Road Trip (If You Mean It) (AO3)

“George giggles despite himself. “Dream,” he says, and  Dream feels his heart firmly punch his chest. Somehow, the same effect of Sapnap looking more attractive in reality applies to George, except  fucking ten-fold. Sapnap teasingly whines something along the lines of  ‘what about me?’, but Dream barely hears him.

Dream takes a step  closer, suddenly very aware that George is as small as Sapnap is, a good  head smaller than him, only really reaching up to his chest. George has  to look up at him, a silent question in his eyes.

The glance upwards, all glittering dark eyes and dark hair and just George, is enough to slay him on the spot.

Dream doesn’t mean to sound so soft, his voice to be so drawled. “Can I hug you?”

George slides his bag off his shoulder, letting it hit the ground. “I- yeah.””

they say its the little things in life that make you happy. But 2 complete strangers who know nothing of each other meet in the most unusual way and it goes a lot better than these two people expect.

YN the wandering traveler feeling all her life like something is missing something is wrong like she is only one half of herself.

Sam Winchester the brains the tech wiz all his life he has felt as though he is different but he hasn't figured out how. To everyone else he is this genius who graduated from Stanford, to someone else he is much more than that.

you have had the same dream for the last few months now, telling you to go to Greece, go to the Parthenon in Athens at closing and meet your destiny. 

Sam had a dream one night telling him to go to the Parthenon in Athens Greece. He told his uncle and his brother booked the flight and left that same night to find his destiny. 

you both were on the same flight un be known to each other fate had plans for you both, fate was the one thing you both would be meeting in Athens. by the time you both arrived in Athens it was mid afternoon. plenty of time before closing. 

you both got off the plane separately and then it came time to find a cab, this would be when you and Sam would first meet. you went to the cab bay but saw only one cab there but couldn't reach it in time for someone else was already loading into it. 

when the man looked back at you, he saw that you were flustered. he started towards you slowly before speaking.

Sam: excuse me, miss. are you okay?

YN: no I'm not okay i needed a cab to get somewhere but i couldn't get one before they were all gone. now you have the last one and i dont know how I'm getting to the Parthenon, or better yet to find a motel or something. but to the Parthenon first.

Sam: come on lets share the cab ride as it turns out you and i are going to the same place. 

You give this man a gentle smile as he helps you load your bag and yourself into the cab. The drive to the Parthenon was calm, you and the stranger exchanged a few words.

You then both decided that you would stick together for it would be safer in a strange place.

Yn: I just realized I don't even think we introduced ourselves. My name is YN.

Sam extended his hand to meet your own before he spoke again.

Sam: Sam short for Samuel but everyone calls me Sam. So what brings you to see the Parthenon.

You were about to speak and then the cab stopped you guys had arrived at the Parthenon.

It was gonna be a tough thing to say that you were here because of a dream leading you to the Parthenon. But here went nothing.

Getting out of the cab you and Sam stand there looking at the Parthenon before you begin to speak.

Yn: I'm here because I had several dreams telling me to come here. That my destiny was here. That I would find what I didn't...

Sam: what you didn't know you were searching for... I had the same dreams. It was weird. Cause at first I thought hey It might just be a lead on a future hunt but then they happened more frequently and now I'm here.

You looked at him when he said hunt.

Yn: wait your a hunter?

Sam and you suddenly had more in common than you originally knew. You both walked over to the Parthenon and suddenly the room went white.

No other people to be detected only you and Sam in the room. But then 2 voices spoke.

Aphrodite: welcome YN before I reveal myself to you. I want you to know that I chose you as means to my own happiness, As well as your talents.

Yn: ya but who are you...

Then another voice spoke.

Hades: Sam your bravery and loyalty to your mission is why I've chosen you. Along side me you will inherit the gifts that I have to offer to turn you demi god. To help me do what I have to for the sake of my own happiness.

Sam: I have the same question as my friend here. Who are you?

That's when 2 figures dressed in robes of some kind one female and one males now standing in front of you and Sam. As they speak once more.

Aphrodite: I am Aphrodite goddess of love one of the main 12. Daughter of Zeus, wife to Hephaestus.

Hades: I am hades lord of the dead and God of the underworld one of the big 3. Zeus and Poseidon are my brothers. Persephone is my wife.

Yn: OK so what does this have to do with us?

Aphrodite: well that's the part we haven't explained. see its been about a year and a half now. Hades and i have been having a small love affair. betraying our married others for the comfort and peace we find in each other’s arms. we need a normal slice of reality for once. 

Hades: point being we want to make you guys our equals so you can sub in for us. in my place Sam you will rule the underworld. command Cerberus and my armies should the need arise. as well as look after the domains including but not limited to Elysium and Tartarus. 

Sam’s eyes all wide and shock clearly written on his face you turned to hear Aphrodite speak to you. 

Aphrodite: in my place YN, you will well be the goddess of love. surely you haven't forgotten your research on the Greek gods/goddesses from school. i command the atmosphere of love on Olympus and here on earth. its by my hand that something good will come between you and Sam but that's a different story. there are a few things obviously that we are gonna have to separate you both to show you. but once we do that we are gone. but you both will be demi gods when we are here. then full gods when we aren't. its to keep up the ruse. there are things that happen automatically when we are around. so it is necessary that nothing disrupts that balance. 

your eyes went wide with shock as well. you took one glance at Sam who looked at you as you both turned back to look at Hades and Aphrodite. 

Sam: okay so what does this mean? like first of all we are here because we are following incessant dreams we both had telling us to come here and  cause our instincts told us that this was a possible site for a case. not to become demi gods or whatever.

you pulled Sam to the side for a moment to speak to him.

YN: look i know this is probably a bit much. but i think i am gonna do this, I'm gonna take Aphrodite’s offer. i feel like I'm meant for so much more than just hunting monsters. this is my one chance to become the most badass demi goddess there is. and if you accepted too, I'm sure we would both see each other more often than we know. 

Sam: i know its the reason we are here and its what we need to do, its what we are called to do. fine, lets do it.

you both walk back to Hades and Aphrodite.

15x01: an allegory for Dean’s psyche. Part 1: the graveyard

Season 15, after the usual recap sequence, has us start where we left off at the end of season 14: we visually “return” to the scene in the graveyard through Jack’s blackened eyes, linking us back to the visual in 14x20 of the camera passing from the graveyard to the empty through the same cinematographic trick. Dean, Sam and Cas try to fight the zombies and Cas calls the others, spurring them to take refuge in a nearby crypt. A brief moment, but I think significant, sees Dean and Sam fending off zombies, shielding Cas as he carries Jack’s body--which is essentially the dynamic of the three characters. Dean and Sam fight against the monsters and supernatural threats thrown at them by Chuck’s capriciousness, while Cas shoulders an emotional baggage, he picks up the weight of what represents both the boys’ broken childhoods and their trauma, and the symbol of their emotional sphere, the culmination of their journey to build emotional and familial connection of their own.

If the plot is about Dean and Sam, Cas is the characters that carries the emotional side of the story, while Jack here represents simultaneously (and it’s not a contradiction) the killed child in them and the struggle to create and maintain emotional bonds, a family of their own--something that Chuck has just symbolically killed: Jack represents a journey they have undertaken to go farther than the mold of their original characterization, they have distanced themselves from John and built a new kind of family. That’s why Chuck needed the Jack-kills-Mary storyline: he wanted to put Dean back in the mold, and Dean, by refusing to kill Jack despite the grief for Mary’s death, is going against his original characterization, because he’s undergone character development going farther from Chuck’s plan. Dean was supposed to kill Jack with a gun that would kill him too, which is just a reiteration of the old storyline of revenge. Killing Mary’s killer means killing yourself, that’s what happened to John, who symbolically destroyed himself and his children’s childhoods. Dean refuses to do what John would have done--destroying himself to destroy Mary’s killer--and that is the ultimate rejection of the author’s plan, since the author doesn’t accept the characters to have a life of their own, to undergo unplanned character development.

It’s not a coincidence that now we see Dean and Sam fighting off zombies to allow Cas to carry Jack’s body as they run to safety: Cas is the character who has shouldered that emotional growth, that emotional development in the story, that Chuck has been trying to “kill”.

The crypt contains a state of the Virgin Mary, seen behind Dean and Sam, a visual language the show has used before, just like the light source goes back to Bobby’s detox room and multiple other emotionally charged scenes. A literal tomb containing Dean’s dead but also Dean’s coping mechanisms and something a queer-implied character uses in this very episode to pass as “normal” and socially acceptable. (And, interestingly, plants--symbol of life.)

But unlike last season, the threat isn’t something he’s trying to keep buried inside, it’s something that’s trying to get at him from outside (also: Michael was trapped where beer and liquor were stored, here cans and bottles are all empty). And yet, the situation is just as unsustainable: staying closed inside might be grant safety momentarily, but they need to get outside, otherwise they’d just waste away.

An interesting detail is their attempt to escape through pipes in the wall (“I hear water”--water’s also a super interesting element that was used a lot last season, mostly associated to Dean). The scene is reminiscent of their escape from the bunker after Ketch trapped them inside; back then the bunker represented a womb, Dean’s escape a rebirth, and the scene was connected to Dean’s emotional struggles with Mary and their eventual connection (you can browse the 12x22 tag on my blog if you want to read more on the topic). Now it’s impossible to escape the same way: the zombies (ie. Chuck) deny them that chance. Basically Chuck here is the opposite of rebirth, of motherhood, of femininity and growth. (Not coincidentally, Cas angrily slams a stone on that.)

What gets them out then? Well, apparently... queerness. There’s literally no other reading I can make of Belphegor (or whoever he is, in case he’s lying about his identity--and if he were: pretending to be someone you’re not... would still fit the theme. Remember how queer-coded Gadreel’s story was?), with his passing sunglasses, his familiarity with magic (always used with queercoding connotations) and everything else. And of course he blasts the ghosts (in our metaphor so far, representing anti-growth, anti-femininity, anti-emotionality, anti-abusive-father-figure...) away using dirt from inside the crypt (material from Dean’s psyche) and Cas’ blood.

Being someone new to the fandom after following the series for a long time, I was curious: Why do fans seem to argue so much about if the series are canon or not? Personally I find them interesting but.. Less canon, I guess? Than the movies, but I still enjoy watching, and I'm super happy people love it bc any new content is great. Yet browsing the tags I keep finding people complaining that the shows are/aren't canon in a way that really makes you feel bad if you disagree? I'm just confused :/

Sorry that you’ve had a potentially unpleasant experience browsing through the tags for this matter! I absolutely love the HTTYD fandom to tears and love the people in it, but yeah, this is a major point of contention within the community sometimes. 

I’d say that as with anything in any fandom, when there’s material some people like and some people don’t, there’s going to be discussion, disagreement, and sometimes butting heads over it. Some people adore Race to the Edge. Some people don’t. Some people take it seriously. Some people don’t. That’s okay and awesome! We’re all allowed our preference, and frankly communities are better places when people don’t all have the same brain about a matter. Not everyone’s going to like the same thing or look at something from the same angle and that’s the entire point about being unique human beings. We need different perspectives, and if we know how to handle different perspectives, we grow and develop and have better times because of it.

What it does mean, though, is that some fans find RTTE to be full of contradictions to the timeline of the movie trilogy. They’ll talk about how Hiccup’s characterization doesn’t make sense in the context of HTTYD, GOTNF, and HTTYD 2. They’ll talk about how in a world that was supposed to be at peace for the five years between movies one and two, there’s way too much chaos for RTTE to be “real events.” They’ll talk about how Hiccup encountering a Bewilderbeast or dragon trappers or lots of other dragon riders couldn’t happen before the events of HTTYD 2, because then it contradicts his reaction when he learns about Valka the mysterious dragon rider. And other such commentary. It’s hard to get into it all, here. 

Some people who take this position about RTTE being contradictory to [other] canon enjoy RTTE or have casual fun with RTTE. They may or may not call the show canonical. If they don’t call it canonical, it’s because they don’t see it as consistent with the rest of the franchise. Perhaps most of the people who take this position (I say this anecdotally though) don’t enjoy RTTE and don’t accept it… and probably don’t call it canon. While people do try to make logical arguments about the canonicity of RTTE, I know that many peoples’ emotional feelings toward the show get in the way of how they analyze it. It’s how lots of humans work, after all; if we don’t like something we’re less likely to accept something. But regardless, many people take the position that RTTE can’t be canonical because it seems riddled with contradictions compared to HTTYD, GOTNF, and HTTYD 2.

Others don’t see contradictions, try to smooth over contradictions, or don’t care about contradictions. People who call RTTE canonical are most likely people who like the show - again, showing how emotions get intertwined in our arguments, even when we’re trying to argue through logos. XD Most people who say RTTE is canonical either point out it’s really not as contradictory as others say… or if they’re like me… say that canonicity isn’t about consistency at all. Consistency is irrelevant to whether or not something is canonical; canonicity is about whether or not it was officially produced. And in the case of RTTE, it’s definitely not a fanfiction, it’s not made by some independent group of people without official studio authority… RTTE was produced and distributed by DreamWorks on official channels like Netflix, so it’s canon. For many people, it’s silly to revoke RTTE as canon, because whether or not you like the material, or whether or not you consider it consistent with the rest of HTTYD material, you shouldn’t be denying that official material is official material, right? 

The debate can get a little more in depth / complex than that, which you’ll see in the links. But that’s the gist of the main positions.

Honestly sometimes people talk past each other in this fandom discussion. People ARE, after all, using one word “canon” in several different ways - to talk about consistency, to talk about being officially produced, or both in one. (You can also talk about whether or not it’s as Big as the movies, aka a greater canon versus lesser canon thing). The different perspectives have valid points. But sometimes this turns into equivocating, and it’s largely because we’re specifically using the word “canon” to talk about:

And then some people try to go after arguments of each, conflate the two issues into one, try to argue both things at once, and all sorts of various tangles. XD 

It’s basically the word “canon” has become problematic, because some people like RTTE, some people don’t, some people take RTTE seriously, some people don’t, some people think RTTE is contradictory, some people don’t, and we’re all trying to use one word to describe that. And we’re trying to use a word that has a lot of “power” behind it. The word “canon” is a pretty serious word - after all, it’s a word that elects whether or not something should be “included” (to some degree or another) in our fandom. So people don’t like hearing RTTE is or isn’t “canon,” given the power behind the word. The word “canon” elicits emotion. To call RTTE not canon could feel like an insult to the show, or to call RTTE canon would feel like inattentiveness to the movies, etc., depending on your position. Even with me, I admit I’m always working on pushing down a pet peeve I have when people treat canonicity as continuity.

I’ve given my piece on what the word “canon” means multiple times, and haha of course I think I’m totally right ;) XD, but given as I’d rather enjoy myself celebrating material I love rather than fall to a topic I consider a sometimes petty discussion (I say this with all love, fandom friends), I’ve elected to quit talking about this at all. It’s a topic I don’t need to be in and a topic I’m honestly tired of seeing. I’ve found a solution. I’ve quit using the spark-word “canon” altogether. I use the synonym “official materials.” I’ve made it quite clear with this synonym what I’m talking about, and no one can say RTTE isn’t official materials, whatever their opinion is on consistency.

Regardless, what’s important is that we all have fun enjoying the things we love. Fandom communities are about coming together and relating to materials we enjoy. If two people like RTTE, we can have fun with it! If two people don’t see eye-to-eye about RTTE, we can squeal about the movies excitedly! That’s truly the core of what it means to come together.

And really, even if the HTTYD fandom can get a little bit sour about the RTTE sometimes, all fandoms have their disagreements, and I’ve really found it to be an awesome community filled with lots of positivity, too. You don’t have to arrange things in a specific way. It’s not that particular. It’s your practice, you do what you are comfortable with.

However, there’s no kind of universal mandate on how it should work anywhere in the surviving texts, and it’s not like we have an unbroken tradition to work from the way some other religions do. Basically, as long as you’re respectful, you’re good!

But a lot of people who ask us this question are actually wondering how you might hear Loki communicating with you. In which case, you have a few options.

Talking directly to gods/spirits is generally referred to as "having a godphone." But you don’t need a "godphone" to communicate. Some use divination, like tarot or runes. Some people hear back in dreams or through omens. Everyone’s different!

And really, you don’t need to hear anything back at all in order to worship Loki or call yourself a Lokean. Loki can still hear you just fine. Not hearing anything back doesn’t mean that you’re a lesser person or that you’re doing it wrong.

I heard some Lokeans practice magic! Will worshiping Loki grant me special powers?

It’s true that some Lokeans practice magic in a variety of different traditions. However, real witchcraft works nothing like it does in most popular movies or fictional stories. If casting the right spell or praying to the right god could grant you Hollywood-style superpowers, then society as a whole would be taking advantage of that, and our world would run very differently.

This isn’t to say you can’t practice magic if that’s something you’re interested in. Regardless of whether it actually works or not, it is a real thing that people do, and have done throughout human history. Just be aware that you’re not going to be able to recreate the stuff in Harry Potter.

Do Lokeans have to practice magic?

Nope. A lot of Lokeans don’t practice magic. Some don’t even believe magic works. Your practice is equally valid regardless.

Is (book) a good book to read?

Many books on Norse mythology generally make Loki out to be the god of evil and stuff like that.

If it says “Loki, the God of Evil and Chaos” when introducing Loki, it’s prooobably not gonna be a fantastic read. However, there are exceptions to the rule, and one of the mods will be glad to point you in the right direction should you ask!

(Here’s a list of books you should definitely avoid, though.)

I keep hearing something about "godspouses"? What's that about?

A godspouse is a person who has ritually married a deity. They can be any gender or orientation, as can the deity in question. Some godspouses function more or less like Christian nuns and treat the commitment as symbolic of their lifelong devotion. Others believe they have a romantic or sexual relationship with the deity in question.

Becoming a godspouse isn't required or expected in order to be a Lokean, nor does it make you better or more devoted than other devotees. It's simply one of many ways to define a personal relationship with Loki.

What does (weird term) mean?

Just like any other community, Pagan Tumblr has developed some of its own vocabulary. Plus, Heathenry has a bunch of weird words that come from Old Norse. Here are some common things we’ve seen newbies get tripped up on:

Blót - A Heathen ritual sacrifice. Don’t worry. It’s not, like, humans or anything these days. Most people use booze or blood from a butcher shop.

Blood Brothers - Loki and Odin as a pair, referring to the pact mentioned in Lokasenna. Also affectionately known as the “two man con” or, by particularly exasperated devotees, sometimes just “Them.”

Folkish - An adjective used to describe the belief that only people of Nordic descent should be allowed to worship the Norse gods. However, historical and archaeological evidence reveals that this wasn’t true back in the Viking Age. Many folkish Heathens are white supremacists, so you should approach anyone who identifies as such with extreme caution.

Fulltrúi - The Heathen equivalent of a neo-Wiccan “patron deity”, although they don’t function in quite the same way. Basically, it’s the primary god you worship, if you choose to focus on one god. (Many don’t.) The word translates roughly to “fully trusted one.”

GLE - Grumpy Lokean Elder. His blog has some awesome, scholarly resources.

Godphone - The ability to communicate with deities without divination or physical signs. Despite the name, it doesn’t usually work like an actual phone. See this post for more info.

Godspouse - A person who has “married” a deity. Some of them function more or less like Christian nuns. Others believe they have a romantic or sexual relationship with the deity in question.

Lore - The mythology, sagas, and other various historical and pseudo-historical writings about Norse religion.

Nokean - A silly person who is against the worship of Loki. They generally don’t know what they’re talking about and are just looking for reasons to exclude people (especially minorities.) Pay them no heed.

UPG - Unverified Personal Gnosis. Knowledge you’ve gained about a deity that isn’t (and perhaps can’t be) verified by the lore. If more than one person has the same UPG, it becomes SPG, Shared Personal Gnosis. Since UPG isn’t verified, it’s important not to treat it as hard facts.

This weird thing happened to me! Is it a sign from Loki?

Only you can determine whether to treat something as a sign or not. You know the context of the situation and your own personal symbolism way better than any stranger on the internet. Odds are, you also have slightly different criteria for what counts as sufficient proof than our mods. And that's okay.

Regardless, remember that you don't actually need a sign or a "calling" in order to worship Loki. If it's something you want to try, that's justification enough. By the same token, you're allowed to say no even if a god is calling you. It's your existence, and you get to decide who or what you're devoted to.

fic: hopeless hearts just passing through

pair: bakugou ღ uraraka notes: a snapshot of an unexpected encounter. it’s early morning, and bakugou is surprisingly good company when the world is asleep.

Uraraka shivers. If she’d known the forecast called for possible snow she would have layered better, rather than sneaking out of the dorm clad only in flimsy tights and an old T-shirt with one too many holes in it. She hadn’t noticed in motion, but a nearby convenience store had given her pause and now the frosty wind makes her teeth chatter against their will. She decides to make a quick stop after all, only to make use of the heater that was surely blasting inside.

An uninterested employee grunts a greeting from the counter without glancing up from his magazine, and Uraraka tries not to look too guilty as she pretends to browse down the aisle. Her fingers slowly defrost, turning pink at the tips.

Over the shelf, she thinks she spies something soft golden pass her by. But she thinks nothing of it.

Her stomach churns slightly to see the rows upon rows of packaged food laid out prettily before her, but she tampers down her longing. It was her birthday month and her parents had sent her an extra allowance to buy herself a present with, which she had gratefully set aside; a meager amount, but it was enough for a new pair of sneakers that she so badly needed. She glances down at the beat-up shoes on her feet. They had served her so well over the years, but had grayed long ago and were now starting to come apart at the seams.

She quickly decides to leave before she’s tempted further, or before the muscles she had so nicely warmed up from her jog relaxed completely. But something tinkles on the other side of the shelf, and she hears someone softly hiss under their breath, “Goddamn, fucking, stupid—”

Uraraka can’t help but giggle at the out of place language, but makes sure to peek around the aisle to check that the person was okay.

A young boy seems to have spilled his coins on the floor. She finds his cheek pressed to the tiles, as he reaches for whatever had slid under a giant crate of soda cans that the convenience store employee clearly had not been bothered to unpack. Uraraka realizes his soft golden hair earlier had not been a trick of the light after all.

Smiling to herself, she tip-toes closer. Checking furtively that the employee was still preoccupied with his magazine, she gently lays a palm flat against a piece of the crate. A moment later, it glides into the air—and an array of spilled coins come into view.

The boy startles. “The hell—?!”

Uraraka’s tinkling laugh dies in her throat when he whips his head around and his scowl is inordinately familiar.

“Bakugou?” she squeaks, and instantly loses control of her Quirk.

The crate comes crashing down with a deafening thud. Thankfully none of the cans topple off, but the floor definitely seems to shake. She nervously glances at the store employee, but he doesn’t even react, and she realizes belatedly that he’s wearing earphones.

“The hell, Uraraka? You almost took my arm off!” Bakugou hisses, getting to his feet and dusting off his sweatpants. He had narrowly pulled his arm away before the crate had crash-landed.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” she apologizes in haste, feeling mortified and very sincerely sorry. “I just wasn’t expecting to see someone I know! And I didn’t recognize you since you...”

Bakugou’s hair had never been so flat for as long as she’d seen it. It falls over his forehead in a long mess, and she’s surprised (though not at all surprised, really) to learn that his usual spiky do was a stylistic choice.

“Is your arm okay?” She takes hold of it delicately to check for any red marks, but he pulls it away before she’s barely touched it.

“I’m fine,” he scoffs, then quickly tacks on a halfhearted, “Stupid.” His fists jam into his pockets. “I’m no princess. Let’s go.”

She jumps. “But your coins! And you don’t have to hurry out on my account or anything—”

“They’re irrelevant, barely enough for a cup of coffee. And I’m not hurrying out, stupid.” He gets an almost intense sort of look about him, jaw locking into a stern scowl as he steps forward, and suddenly Uraraka finds herself caged to the cold, metal rack with Bakugou’s bicep pressing against her own, the soapy smell wafting from his hair suggesting that he was freshly showered. He mumbles, “I think I’ve found exactly what I came here for.”

Uraraka holds her breath, thinking not for the first time that Bakugou’s eyes were very, very intense.

Then he reaches around her head, and plucks a small box of energy bars off the shelf. “This is it. Let’s go.”

Uraraka breathes in and inwardly berates herself for being stupid, stupid, stupid as she sheepishly follows him to the counter. For two years she’s been losing her breath over Bakugou, feeling her heart flutter over Bakugou, and essentially getting her hopes up for nothing over Bakugou. At first she thought it had meant something that she was the only girl in their class he could stand to talk to for longer than five minutes, but then last year Aizawa-sensei had paired him with Yaoyorozu for a training session and it had stung to see them getting on so well. How stupid of her, indeed.

Lost in her thoughts, Uraraka realizes a bit late that the store employee has his eyes fixed on her, a troubled expression on his face. She tucks a lock of hair behind her ear and smiles up at him politely, albeit a bit confusedly. That seems to trouble him further.

Bakugou scowls, then suddenly swings an arm around Uraraka’s neck, bringing her closer to his side. Curiously irritated, he huffs, “Can’t you see she’s with me?”

Uraraka squeaks, and pleads with herself over and over, Don’t turn red, don’t turn red, do not turn red!

The employee coughs, hiding a sudden smirk. “Sure you’re not holding her prisoner there, Katsuki-kun?”

She startles to realize they know one another.

Bakugou angrily grabs his purchase, slams down his payment, and struts out of the store with Uraraka still under his arm. She puts up a bit of a fight, embarrassed by her resulting awkward waddle, but he doesn’t seem to notice. The store employee looks amused by the display for a brief moment, before returning to his magazine.

“I-Is he a friend of yours?” she coughs, once she’s free.

Bakugou turns on her, hotly jabbing a finger to her forehead. “Are you stupid or something! Why are you using your Quirk in public?”

She blinks innocently. “But you do it all the time?”

"’Cause I don’t care about the law and shit! It’s a stupid law anyway! But you—!” He jabs a finger to her forehead again, and she pouts. “You tryna get arrested first thing in the morning?”

“No one saw anyway!” she argues. She had just been trying to help.

Bakugou glares at her defense, then informs her through gritted teeth, “That guy’s got the Third-Eye Quirk, dumbass. He can see things without looking.”

Various oddities click into place, and Uraraka realizes all at once that the boy had not looked up when she had entered the store despite greeting her, and had not reacted to the crashing crate at all even though it had made such a commotion. He had seen everything, including her using her Quirk when she was prohibited to do so.

She flushes sheepishly at her poor judgment, and Bakugou takes it to mean she’s realized her mistake.

“Count yourself lucky you know me. That guy’s not gonna go blabbing to the cops if he doesn’t want me showing up and blowing up the whole goddamn place.”

Uraraka thinks the boy’s brotherly smile towards Bakugou has more to do with his compliance in the matter rather than actual fear, but she wisely chooses not to say a word. Instead, she tucks her hair behind her ear, eyelashes fluttering, and smiles sweetly up at the boy who had stuck up for her. “Thank you for helping me, Bakugou.”

He tenses, like a kitten who had accidentally dipped his toe in cold water and raised his fur in retaliation, before gruffly shoving his hands into his pockets. The shopping bag around his wrist crashes against his leg as he stomps off. “I-I didn’t do it for you, dumbass. Don’t misunderstand, stupid, round-face, gravity girl! It’d just be a pain runnin’ into the cops this fucking early.”

Uraraka laughs and runs until she falls into step beside him, deciding this would be the end of her jog. He doesn’t seem to mind her tagging along.

“Do you run into the cops a lot, then?”

“They’re the ones who got a problem with me!”

She has an inkling once again that that’s not exactly the case, though she keeps the thought to herself. But she can’t resist humming low, a smile twitching for a chance to break out on her lips, and it rubs him all the wrong way.

“What the hell’re you doing all the way out here with nothing on in the winter anyway?” he demands, crabby as can be. Bakugou’s not got on much either, just some faded sweats and his usual tank top, but Uraraka’s never seen him bothered by the cold before.

“Well... I was just out jogging, trying to clear my head. Bakugou, do you live around here then?” She had made it rather far during her run without realizing it, and to see Bakugou here was also proof; he had left to visit home a couple days ago, and this was the first they had seen of each other since—she really had not been expecting him at the convenience store.

Bakugou just gives a noncommittal grunt.

So Deku must have lived nearby as well, she realizes, but she was wise enough not to voice it aloud. Over the years she had realized Bakugou wasn’t volatile if you gave him no reason to be, or perhaps he had matured enough to become that way. Some of their rowdier peers had made a sort of game out of it, daring each other to push his limit, but Bakugou had either grown softer with time or had actually become fond of their classmates—in any case, there had been significantly less explosions since the new year.

Something tinkles, once again, and Uraraka is curious to see they’ve stopped in front of a vending machine and that Bakugou’s angrily rustling through his pockets.

“Umm,” she pipes up quietly, and pulls out a small pile of coins from her own pocket. His raised, questioning brow has her flushing. “I know you said to leave them, b-but it just didn’t seem right to leave perfectly good coins lying there. This-this isn’t all of them! But I picked up just a few for you, I thought they might be useful...”

He swipes them wordlessly and jams them into the slot with rather intense purpose, procuring one warm can of instant coffee, and then snorts, “See? Barely enough for one damn cup.”

Uraraka watches with interest as he gives the machine three punches, and then one swift kick to the side strong enough to make it rattle. It whirs softly, and then there’s a muted thunk to signify another can’s dropped into the hatch. Bakugou pulls out the second can of instant coffee with a self-satisfied smirk. “Learned how to do that when I was nine.”

Uraraka frowns. “I don’t know if we should be doing this. Isn’t it kind of like, I mean, stealing?”

Bakugou rolls his eyes, pressing one into her hand. “Then you have the one we paid for. Goddamn.”

He plops down on a nearby bench, legs spread, and loudly pops open the can to take a swig. When she doesn’t immediately join him, he gives an impatient kick to the dirt space beside his foot. Uraraka considers the warm coffee slowly defrosting her fingers, and Bakugou’s side profile as he looks up distractedly at the brewing, grey snow clouds. She quickly takes the seat next to him, legs tucked together, and delicately opens her coffee so it would not spill.

“Ahhh, that feels so nice!” she exclaims after her first sip. “I feel like a tin-man right after getting an oil change.”

He scoffs, though not completely unkindly, and she wonders if that’s just his version of a laugh. Lately there had been less of his maniacal laughter from the old days. A lot of things were changing, lately, though the most daunting was their impending graduation in just a few months’ time—that had been causing changes in a lot of people. (Uraraka can’t remember the last morning she had woken up not in a cold sweat and had to run until her legs ached just to numb her anxious thoughts).

They sit quietly but amiably enough for some time, until those same thoughts from that morning begin to fester again the longer they do not speak. Uraraka bites her lip, unable to stand the silence.

“Bakugou?” she begins hesitantly, tracing the rim of her can. “I was just wondering something. Don’t... don’t you worry sometimes, about what it’ll be like after graduation?”

His swift and assured ‘no’ is so expected of him that she almost breathes a sigh of relief.

“But what if you can’t make it as a hero? Don’t you think about things like that at all?”

“The fuck you mean by that?” he demands, taking offense. His hair almost raises on end, as he scowls at her. “You callin’ me weak? Need me to blow up some more damn rocks for you to understand my power?”

“Geez, I didn’t mean it like that!” she whines, unfazed by his usual temper. “I just meant, like, what if” —she swallows, the sound inaudible— “what if you can’t save someone in time, and they die?”

“So? People die all the time.” His matter-of-fact tone takes her aback. Bakugou tightly closes a fist, and glares down at it as his knuckles turn white under the strain. “My job’s to defeat the villain before they get to any more.”

Uraraka shakes her head. It’s such a different philosophy than the ones around her. Mina, she knew, just last month, had needed to be soothed from fretting herself into a panic attack, and everyone in their class had been quieter lately than usual. Tsuyu had even come to her with some of her worries. All Might, according to Deku, had said this was normal behavior come this time of their schooling; everyone was itching to prove themselves, yet could not help but wonder what kind of hero they would become, the kind of name they would make for themselves.

But Bakugou has always, always stayed so self-assured. She’s awed, but more than anything, she’s envious.

“What, you worried about someone dying on your watch?” Bakugou wonders, as if it just now occurs to him why she might have asked in the first place. “Go be a damn doctor, then, if that’s the kinda change you wanna make in the world. I’m out there to defeat villains, not drive myself crazy by keeping a body count.”

“...Bakugou, you really do sound like a villain sometimes,” Uraraka laughs, but she stares up at the same sky he had been looking at, and she thinks she understands. A hero couldn’t always save everybody, but they could make the world safer for those who were still living.

“Shut up, gravity girl,” he retorts, then crushes up his can and tosses it into a nearby bin. “I’m outta here.”

Uraraka startles. She hadn’t expected him to finish his coffee so soon when she was only halfway through her own. She panics when he gets to his feet, and lurches forward without thinking, to grab onto the back of his T-shirt. He looks back, surprised.

“Well, I just—I mean—” She struggles to think of an excuse, to get him to stay. Because she kind of likes Bakugou in the early morning, with his hair still damp and limp over his forehead, his laughter harsh but with concealed kindness, sipping coffee together side-by-side on a seat beside him that he had offered her. Bakugou like she has never known him before.

“Aren’t you going to offer to walk me back to school?” she finally asks, all innocently fluttering lashes and flushed cheeks.

He stares at her incredulously, almost making her squirm under the intense look, before finally snapping, “The hell? Are you a hero or aren’t you?”

She’s stunned for just a beat, the words hanging heavy over their heads. But then, even though a storm cloud rumbles up above them, a bright and delighted sort of smile splits across Uraraka’s face.

Bakugou yanks himself free and stomps off without much fanfare, all the while muttering to himself under his breath, “Damn woman, always smiling, what is there to always be so damn smiley about...?”

Uraraka picks up her can of coffee and leisurely starts in the other direction, occasionally peeking back over her shoulder even though all she can see is soft golden hair in the distance.

Dummy, she thinks, affectionately. I don’t need you to protect me from danger. I just wanted you to stay with me a bit longer.

I'm new to flight rising and all the guides I've read have been very vague on dragon pricing, simply stating its very subjective. Could you help with "ballpark" figures, or qualities guaranteed to add value and around how much? I know gen 1s and old dragons are worth a lot but that's it.

I’m honestly not the best person to ask about the current dragon economy since I just got back from a year long hiatus last month, but I’ll try to help you out anon using what I remember from when I was super active! Unfortunately pricing is super subjective, so a lot of what I’m about say is probably similar to guides you’ve read. :/For general dragons, a good rule of thumb is to look at what’s selling best and price match! Things like pastels are still super popular from what I can tell, same with color pairs that have matching accents in their primaries and secondaries from genes like Butterfly, Petals, Toxic, Poison, Skink, and Spinner. Good color ranges usually include blues, reds, pinks, the upper white ranges, the lower black ranges, and sometimes greens. Gold is a popular tert when paired with red or black primaries and secondaries. Bright ‘ Lisa Frank ‘ like dragons are still popular too I think, but I might be wrong. Usually above all else the hatchlings with the newest genes are going to sell for the most within a month or so of releasing, but you still need to be conscious of what colors your pairs can produce before you just slap new genes on them and wait five ( or six? ) days hoping that you’ll eventually make back the treasure/gems you spend on the parents.

Following popular trends is a good way to make treasure/gems if your lair has the space and you can afford it. Back when I joined FR XXXs were all the rage and were still relatively rare compared to the massive amounts of them available today, so I ended up structuring my entire lair around breeding XXXs for a good year or so. You can see the remnants of that fad in the very back of my lair with a triple lemon pair I still haven’t been able to let go of. Even though half the pairs I had were colors I weren’t exactly fond of, the fact still remained that I ended up making a ton of money off them everytime I breed them.

Ballpark prices are hard to suggest, unless you’re selling dragons that have similar color schemes to dragons that you know are already selling. Generally I feel like if you have an interesting pair that has some people asking for pings and stuff when they breed you can probably get away with asking for upwards of 50kT+ for hatchlings, with more if they have newer genes. In the case of newer genes ( as in during the weeks immediately following release ) I feel like it’s best to price lower than the cost of the genes themselves for potential quick sells. Pricing dragons around 100kT+ each when they have new primaries and secondaries you can find in the treasure marketplace isn’t unheard of and I’ve seen some dragons sell at the price. As for brand new gem genes I think pricing really depends on how popular the gene seems to be. For release day hatchlings that have been boon’d it isn’t uncommon to see ones in the AH for 500g+, but I’m not sure if most people would ever consider buying at that price unless the colors are really good and they’re disinterested in waiting to see if prices go down.

Oh, as I said above more or less, some people will be happy to pay more than what you expect for dragons that they’re especially fond of. So, if you’re not getting any bites off just putting them in the AH and advertising them in tags, don’t be afraid to go promote them in the Dragon Search forum so long as you’re paying attention to what people are looking for in each thread and offering accordingly. Sometimes having a hatchery in Dragon Sales helps too as far as gathering potential buyers, but I haven’t had experience with running one in forever.

Either way, regardless of what you originally start off as pricing your dragons at, don’t be discouraged to adjust prices if your dragons don’t sell! Sometimes a person won’t consider buying a dragon for more than a certain amount, but might reconsider if they see that you’ve dropped the price to something more affordable to them. That said, never drop them below fodder prices because you can make at least a quick 10~15kt off them yourself via leveling them up in the coli if they haven’t sold by the time they’re adults. A good way to make money in general if you have the lair space and time to waste in the coli is to just have an exalt fodder pair or two that breeds every 15 days, put their hatchlings up for adult fodder prices, and then if they’re not sold by then just train them to level 7 or 8 or so to exalt.

Also, like you said, certain 1st generation and older 3~6 digit dragons are worth a lot of money to the right person! 

First gens with desirable colors and matching eyes sell way better than ones with a completely random unworkable color scheme, but there’s always the possibility that someone might be interested. If you don’t know how much a gen one is worth when you feel like it’s colors are good and work well together there’s several places on the site forums you can ask around for price checks full of people that regularly sell and buy them who might help you. my go-to strategies for coping and self-care certainly don’t work for everyone or in all situations, but with Tumblr and social media-related thing in general i often try to:

remove myself from the source of the distress.

even if only temporarily for a few hours, days, a week– whatever, i do what i can to mentally and / or physically check myself out of whatever it is that’s negatively affecting me and do my best to turn my attention to other things. i go to Starbucks, read a book, clean my apartment, focus on a personal project, catch up on shows, turn off my computer and my phone and finally make myself food– whatever. i focus on things that are actually tangible and perhaps offer some form of self-gratification even if it’s just in the form of tasting good because goddamnit, the time and cost required to get a caramel macchiato is (and quite frankly should be) far more worth it to me than the time and (mental) cost spent giving a damn about someone else’s bullshit. or so i tell myself.

if the source of the distress is outside of the internet, as might be the case with a therapist, i cut that person (or thing) out of my life even if it’s just by silently breaking off communication with them by not returning their calls or not going to their therapy sessions temporarily or indefinitely. as i said above, that person / those people / that thing is not worth the time or (mental) cost required of me by dealing with them.

limit or manage my exposure to the source of the distress when removing myself from it completely isn’t possible.

i feel like this often ends up being more taxing than simply removing myself all together, but blocking / unfollowing immediately upon coming across something or someone that can potentially or does set you off is important. blocking applies to more than just people, blogs or posts but also blacklisting tags, keywords etc using something like Xkit for Tumblr, the native block & mute features on Twitter, etc. if the distress comes in the form of asks, instant messages, etc then i disable those things at least temporarily, especially when blocking an IP fails to get the job done. i also avoid browsing through tags, which can be tough when you actively want to find something to help yourself feel better about yourself / your experiences / etc…

when the source of the distress isn’t online-based, i try to manage / limit my exposure by avoiding the person or thing in question when possible. again, actively avoiding someone or something requires effort on my part and can in and of itself be taxing, so it’s not ideal… but i do what i can.

venting.

while venting is by no means The Solution to anything and comes with its own set of risks / problems when done publicly, venting can be done in so many different ways. it’s a relatively easy form of instantly relief for me regardless of how small that relief may ultimately be. whether it be tweeting, journaling (online or pen & paper), venting on sites specifically made for that purpose, scribbling feelings onto a piece of paper and then immediately ripping that paper to shreds, typing heatedly into a text document and then closing it without saving– whatever, it helps for me to take even a moment out of my day to acknowledge how i feel and speak those feelings into existence beyond just the mess that is my own head at times. even if those feelings only exist in the world for seconds before i delete or physically destroy them because Anxiety And Shit, it still helps.

but perhaps most importantly is to:

focus on the fact that no matter what anyone else says or does, i am The Authority on who i am, how i feel, etc.

i know who i am, but i also know that who i am is not the problem even when others make me feel otherwise. regardless of how i may feel about the things that i face in regards to my sexuality, my gender, my race, etc, i try to keep in mind that those things that i face are a product of the society that i live in and the people who insist on interjecting their own personal bullshit into my life. imho, this is as true of Tumblr “discourse” as it is of life in general.

while it may not be possible to escape society or shitty people all together, there is a lot more to society and life in general than the bullshit that we find ourselves faced with at times. i try my best to look beyond or through “discourse” on Tumblr and see the communities of people both on an off Tumblr who, like me, are against such bullshit. while shitty therapists and shitty people in general may rebrand and rehash the same old tired, hurtful shit that’s been said to others for forever, i try to look past that and focus instead on the fact that a lot of people aren’t like that and have actually learned from the past and and are better for it. i try to focus on a future where i will have access to competent mental health resources and care even though i do not have that now…

…….i’m not sure why i ended up writing this short novel of a post that ultimately amounts to nothing, but yeah. anon, no matter how hard things get, please know that you’re never going at it alone. there are others out there struggling, coping, surviving in spite of the same or similar things, it’s just that if hardly anyone talks about it we end up feeling alone in it, unaware of others’ company…

HELP! Insurance company trying to low ball estimate?

I need help choosing my first car. Mustang vs Mustang vs MINI?

I will be buying my first car soon and I have a few choices to pick from. I'll have to pay for everything myself (insurance, fuel, maintenance, etc.). I'm trying to narrow my choices by choosing between a 2005 Mustang v6 (has 50k miles and is an auto :c) and a 2004 Mustang v6 (has 80K miles and is a manual c:). I found both of these cars at an auction site I'll be going to with my father next week (he's mechanically inclined lol truck driver) and I'm nervous since it's likely I won't be able to check for many issues other then auto check. I don't need much power so I don't mind having a v6 (because I'll work my way up to the newer models heh heh heh). Anyway, which should I choose should I decide to get a Mustang? I mostly need it to get to school and work; maybe an occasional mini road trip to LA (twice a year; I live in the Bay Area too so weather isn't a problem). Also, are they difficult to drive?
