I'm curious to all my fellow MHA writers. What do you or your oc's call your lovers or nickname? What do they call your OC's?
Tumblr media
Mary's(my villain oc) nickname for Kai: My mate, my dearest, my devil, my birdy
Kai's nickname for Mary: His angel, his goddess and light, his vixen and naughty huntress, his little wife
Tumblr media
Mary's nicknames for Dabi: Pyro, Dark Knight, Casanova
Dabi's nicknames for Mary: Yakuza Princess, his beauty, firebrand
Let me know what you think of my name choices? I know Dabi's has a lot of work. lol
Plus, I know I've talked about my villain fanfic and figured I would share a bit of a sneak peak here and there. Kai would probably use, "angel" the most and as for Dabi it would probably be "princess."
The way I looked at it while thinking of these nicknames was both Overhaul and Dabi think of themselves as no longer human since they gave up their names to become villains.
Overhaul becomes "A demon with no heart," as Pops calls him.
Dabi falls farther into the darkness and becoming a beast or monster.
Mary being a wolf shifter has her own inner beast. If she loses control in a fit of bloodlust or anger, she could hurt someone.
With Kai, it starts with an arranged marriage between both yakuza clans into love as the pair feels the pull of a "mated pair," between a human and a wolf.
Kai's known since he's reunited with her that she's his, he can't explain it, theirs this undeniable pull he feels towards her, the only woman for him.
With Dabi, he accepts her dark side, gives his support no matter if she kills her targets, random who offended her clan's honor, or under the haze of blood lust; he accepts it all without judgement.
He see's the fire burning within her and beast wanting to be free from it's golden cage. Even covered in the blood of her enemies, he can still see the innocence and kindness in her mismatched eyes. Dabi's a greedy bastard and he wants his princess for himself, he doesn't care if she's married or not.
It's the push and pull, darkness and light, carnal and feral desires, beauty and the beasts, human and inhuman, sanity and insanity; in laws of the underworld, villain don't get happy endings, or do they?

Don't close the box yet, I'm trying to read something with Kaito getting too many present for Christmas from the Precepts, and Kai putting them away.
I'm sure Kaito throws a fit. Nobody is on Chisaki's side...not even pops. Kaito is so spoiled 😭
Tumblr media
"Almost there... aaand-" you stood on your tippy toes and cheered along with the 4 year old you were holding for him to finally manage to put the star on top of the tree while your husband only could arch an eyebrow.
It wasn't very common for him to celebrate Christmas. He just didn't see the appeal to it. Like... okay, you lie to children about a fat old guy who delivers presents to all the people in the world in one night; give more presents yourself to others; stay awake for unbelievable night hours instead of doing something productive and stuff your face with the "holidays type" of food.
But seeing his wide and son being all hyped up for the holiday warmed a bit his chest...
Until pops decided to spoil his son every single holiday ever.
The last Christmas since Kaito was born was like a huge pile of boxes of toys. Very LOUD and ANNOYING toys.
He could still remember the headaches combine with the countless nights of no sleep.
"Santa will come?"
"Well, you were a good boy the whole year so-" you bopper his nose as his eyes crossed to look at your finger until snickering a bit at your playfulness.
"I object. He was a brat." Kaito yelled a hey at his dad who didn't even sounded impressed at his son's reaction while you try it to maintain your giggles at bay.
He only sighed before standing up and going over the two of you as you gently put Kaito back down on his feet.
"Don't be such a grinch love, you can't deny is the time of the year where usually we are the kost kindest to others."
"Some people." He grumbled with a cold look as you caressed his covered cheek.
"Come on, just look at him." You moved your gaze towards to the boy who was checking if the cookies were rightfully placed on the plate for Santa Claus "the best part of having kids Kai is to see their joy... we can't assure if it will always be that way since the world isn't all sunshines... but seeing that innocence and happiness doesn't it make it all worth it the hours of decorating and other stuff?" You pointed out as you smiled at his usually cold and distant look turn into soft golden eyes filled with calmness and understanding.
"I suppose you're right." He sighed after a couple of seconds, uncrossing his arms and just leaving them both at his side "I just only can hope to not have certain elders spoil too much our-"
"MeRrY ChRIStMaS BItChES!" You both jumped at mimic literally busting the door open along with the rest of precepts.
"Uncle Chrono! Mimic!" Kaito wide smile at the sign, you sighed in relief that Kaito didn't catch the curse word... while Kai looked like he was about to kill every single person of that room asides you and his kid.
"I'm sorry for his manners master, young master and lady (Y/n)" Tengai and Nemoto bowed while speaking simultaneously while you waved your hands around and saying for them to cut the formality.
"We bought some fruit cake but..." Hojo was about to speak until Setsuno elbowed his other companion.
"Tabe ate it all before we stepped inside." The man whose name was spoken only lowered his head in a silent apology.
"Hey shrimp." Rappa kneeled down while giving him a nerf gun "There ya go. Shoot your old man."
"Wooooowww." Kaito eyes shined bright until he whined at his new toy being yanked off of him to only laugh at the sign of his father literally slamming the toy on Rappa's face as the man cussed him out.
"First of all, what are all of you here?" Chisaki spoke in a murderous silent voice as you walked towards him in hopes to calm him down before he overhauled someone in front of your son... again.
"The old man invited us." Chrono spoke simply while you and Kai widened your eyes "Said something about giving the kid more company... oh and he mentioned gifts too I guess."
"Of course he did." Kai groaned while face palming as you giggled at the sign of a four year old climbing rikiya as the man only smiled at the boy. "Where is even he at the moment?"
"Right here." The elder soon appeared and went to give you a hug first, totally ignoring Chisaki. "I hope I wasn't late to see my favorite grandson!"
"He is your only grandson..." Kai mentioned nimbly before groaning when Pops gave him a big box to hold as the elder went and grabbed the kid. "What is even this?!"
You only blinked at the sign of the room getting more crowded and hearing the commotion of it and clearly noticing your husband's distaste of all of it.
Yeah... long night ahead of you ...
.
.
.
After God knows how long it was, you pribed Kaito out of the chair, saying Tabe wasn't going to steal Santa's cookies. Despite the kid always proclaiming he was agrow kid he still insisted that he sitter on your lap to receive the presents to show you and his father who refuse to wipe the frown out of his face or to sit down in the ground.
"Uncle rappa gave me a nerf gun first." The kid mumbled while opening the next present with silver paper wrapped around it "Wow! A new action figurine!"
"That's mine actually." Chrono mentioned with a smirk as yououthed a thank you to him as Kai only glared at his childhood friend
"Thank you uncle!" Kaito gleamed in happiness.
You were getting a bit worried to the amount of gifts, you weren't going to lie. It was like when you gave birth to Kaito... too much presents. Yet you were still happy when all Kaito won he showed it to you with a pretty smile that reminded you a bit of your husband's rare one.
"Since when I gave you all the order to spoil rotten my kid?" Kai growled as the precepts tensed while Mimic, Chrono blinked and Pops only arched an eyebrow.
"Is Christmas."
"I'm putting these away." He growled while going to pick the other boxes that weren't open until he felt a tiny hand gripping his pants tight and when he turned to look... he found the usual calm son he had now with tears welling up in his (E/c) eyes with the biggest pout he ever saw.
"Please Dada.... I want to see what's inside..." the kid hiccups and he swore that was the first time ever on his life he felt the worst human on the planet.
"Way to go dude." Chrono mumbled until he flinched at the hard elbow connecting with his chest.
"Fine. But you better organize all these things and not leave it out here for me or your mother to pick it up." He growled but soon blushed crimson red at his son hugging his legs at the front of everyone. "Let go Kaito. Now is not the time."
"Overjerk is such a jellohead when he is with these two you notice?" Rappa mumbled to Tabe as the guy munched on some fried chicken.
.
.
The precepts had gone since they wanted to spend the holidays in other places, so it was only Chrono and Pops left.
"A choo-choo!" The boy exclaimed in glee as he held the new brand toy his grandfather had given him.
"A train with a remote controller.... pops how much money did you spend on this one even?" Kai asked almost in terror as the elder only chuckled and mumbled about letting the kid have fun.
"Mama look! It makes even a lil noise!" The boy pressed a button and it soon the sound of a train filled the room.
"Wow honey that's incredible! Did you thank granddad?" You smiled at your son when his eyes widened in realization as he zapped towards the elder to give him a hug for it.
"Awe is fine! I just wanted to see that boy's smile!" Pops chuckled while messing up the kid's hair
"Later you better not to blame me for this brat to be so spoiled." Kai growled only to soften up a bit as you rested your head on his shoulder and his son climbed back to sit between the two of you.
"I'm not spoiled. You are." The kid mumbled while nuzzling his face and hugging you the best he could with his little chubby arms.
"Pardon?"
"Grandpop and mommy said it. You're spoiled dad." The kid stared up at his dad in the most numb tone of voice he could ever muster as Chisaki glared daggers at the four year old boy as Chrono tried his best to not laugh and fail.
"... you do know you don't need to dress up as Santa right pops? Kaito doesn't need to see it." You mumbled to the elder while your two favorite boys discussed while the old man chuckled on his eggnog.
"Oh please I already have the costume. Chisaki won't do it but sure as heck I will."
"You do spoil Kaito a lot pops.." You chuckled as the elder smiled in triumph
"Parents are made to educate while grandparents are to spoil. That's the rule."
"I never heard of it!" You laughed as Pops chuckled.
"Well, now you do!"

I was wondering if you write Magne? There isn’t a lot of fics about her so I was wondering if I could make a request?
Maybe Magne and reader are shopping buddy’s, but reader has feeling for her cause she so beautiful (cause she is), and maybe Magne feeling like she isn’t loveable (just for angst), and maybe the reader prove her wrong by just letting out all they’re feeling for her by accident, then leading to them kisses her. And Magne is just 😳
Sorry, I just love her so much and I think she deserves the world.
YES YES OF COURSE, magne needs so much more love than she has 💕💕💕 sorry it's a lil short, i've got a lot on my plate recently that needs all my brain power lmao
────── ・ 。゚: .☽ . : 。゚・ ──────
[Magne x GN!Reader]
[Contents: GN!Reader; No gendered descriptions for reader; Written in third person with “[Name]” instead of “y/n” so OCs can be included! Fluff; Accidental love confessions; Mutual pining; AU where Magne doesn’t die cause shes a bad bitch]
[Content warnings: Brief moment where Magne is insecure about her gender identity, but it's pretty short; MC uses the "womens" dressing rooms but still remains gender neutral, as they're going with Magne to make her feel more comfortable]
Tumblr media
────── ・ 。゚: .☽ . : 。゚・ ──────
The city streets weren’t very busy, seeing as it was the middle of the week in the early afternoon, and the majority of folks were still at work with the exception of some stragglers. It was perfect for a shopping trip according to Magne, since less people were likely to be roaming about, and thus less Pro Heroes to recognize her. Ever since the raid on the League of Villains hideout and their debacle with Overhaul, keeping Magne’s identity a secret out in public required a lot more effort. Though, it seemed to be a blessing in disguise – pun intended – since this allowed her to experiment more with her fashion tastes and overall gender identity, like she’s always wanted.
Which is why a shopping trip was so important to her and [Name], her best friend and emotional support throughout both their time in the League. Mr. Compress and Giran had managed to fence off some stolen goods to support the League now that AFO was locked away, and Magne decided to spend her rations alongside [Name] on clothes shopping. They said it was for proper disguises, which is true, but it was mostly to regain a sense of normalcy in such a low point of their lives. Horrible coping method, sure, but it brought some light on their darkest days, so who cared?
“Ohhh, I know a good thrift shop that has a ton of styles and trends!” Magne says to [Name] as they make it out of the busiest part of the city without being recognized. Both were clad in baggy, old sweatpants and rugged hoodies to hide their body types from security cams and the public alike. With Toga’s help, Magne was able to look at least a little more put together, with her hair temporarily dyed a darker shade of red and styled in a more trendy, casual way. Her iconic sunglasses were replaced with a different pair, something more similar to reflective green aviators. [Name], on the other hand, simply wore a cloth mask to hide their appearance, with some colored contacts and cut hair for good measure.
“Sounds good to me. Lead the way, beautiful,” [Name] responded to her, the nickname used in a teasing manner that held a genuine truth within it.
Magne giggles at the compliment, waving her hand dismissively. “Oh, don’t make me blush, bestie,” she chirps, before leading them both in the direction of the shop, an excited hop in her step.
---
The thrift store was small and quaint, but true to Magne’s word, held plenty of old-fashioned-yet-trendy clothing styles. The two were currently heading towards the fitting rooms, discussing their outfit possibilities before Magne stops in her tracks just outside arcs to the fitting hallways. [Name] gives her a confused look, before noticing why she was seemingly debating with herself.
The fitting halls were separated by “male” and “female” options, which was unfortunately expected. Magne was typically very confident in her gender identity, especially around her friends, but there were still times where she doubted her physical appearance – especially since it wasn’t mainstream “feminine" enough for most people. And in cases like a dressing room, where body types always seemed to matter the most to everyone in range, her worries flared up instantly.
Realizing why their friend was having an internal debate, [Name] reached over and gently rested a hand on her arm. “Choose whichever makes you most comfortable,” they assure her. “I’ll join with you in there, and if anyone gives you any shit, I’ll make jewelry out of their teeth to go with your outfits.”
Magne’s small but genuine huff of laughter calms [Name]’s nerves a bit, glad to have broken her out of her spiraling thoughts.
“You always know what to say, don’t you?” Magne says to them, a comforting smile on her lips as the two of them head into the hall marked “ladies”.
---
Outfit after outfit was tried on, [Name] letting Magne have most of the spotlight, despite the taller woman cooing and fussing over the outfits her friend also tried on. However, they seemed to notice Magne had lost the confidence she carried when the two of them were picking out the clothes earlier, seemingly nitpicking every little detail that pertained to her body.
“It’s a little too small.” Or “My arms are a bit too thick for this shirt, don’t you think?” Or “This dress would look better if I had tits…”
“Magne,” [Name] spoke up when the red-head changed back to her street clothes, exiting the dressing room with a dejected expression and a pile of “rejected” clothes in her hands. “You know clothes are supposed to make you feel pleased, not others, right?”
An embarrassed blush crosses the woman’s cheeks when she realizes her sour mood had been that obvious. She pouts a bit and turns her face away. “I know, but-“
“And you know your friends adore you no matter what you look like, right?” [Name] gently cuts her off, reaching a hand up to her shoulder comfortingly, glad that the fitting hall was empty so the two could have a heartfelt moment. “You shouldn’t have to force yourself to be appealing to the very people who want to see you in Tarturus. The only outfit they want to see you in is an ugly orange jumpsuit that totally wouldn’t bring out your eyes.”
Taking Magne’s short bark of laughter as a good sign, [Name] continued their reassurances.
“You’re a beautiful woman, no matter what you do with your appearance, no matter what cloth covers your body. No one else’s opinion matters,” they pull down their mask to give her a soft smile. “I love you, Magne, y’know that?”
Magne’s head shoots up to look over at them, the blush on her cheeks growing redder at the confession. “Wait- you mean… as like, more than…?” She stutters out, unable to form a proper question through her shock.
[Name]’s smile turns into a lopsided grin, their own blush rising to their cheeks a bit. “More than a friend? Yeah, exactly that. This isn’t how I wanted to confess, but I felt like… you needed to know, now more than ever, that I’ve always saw you as the most gorgeous and confident person in the world.”
In an instant Magne had them scooped into her strong arms in a bear hug, the red-head burrowing her face into [Name]’s neck as she lifts them from the ground.
“Ohh, bestie, I love you too! So, so, so much!”

That post about writers completely re-inventing characters and ignoring continuity and turning them into basically self-insert OC's (which is generally infuriating for fans) got me thinking about times when it actually worked well to totally revamp a character. I think one of the keys is when it's an extremely minor character, and long dead or out of continuity, so fans are less likely to mind. (Readmore, because damn do I ramble a lot.)
Like one of my favorite examples is the Shade, a Silver-Age Flash villain who had a cane who could create shadows:
Tumblr media
It's the guy in the top hat, so old school that he hung out with The Fiddler.
Shade had largely fallen out of continuity when he was picked up to be a major character in James Robinson's Starman, where he was reinvented as an immortal being from the Victorian era who had gained supernatural powers from a magical accident. No longer needing the cane, this Shade could control and project shadows. Starman's Shade was also a significantly more interesting and complex anti-hero type, who had adopted Opal City as his home and is willing to defend it. He is dark enough to rip people to pieces with his shadows, but winds up helping the good guys more often than not, even if it's sometimes for his own purposes. The series also delves into his past history through the present, fleshing out his past and origins. Also, he got much hotter:
Tumblr media
That probably helped, too. This Shade is so different from the original he may as well be James Robinson's OC, but i can't imagine even fans of the original complaining, he's a very cool character whose profile was raised enough in Starman that he got a solo mini-series. He also appeared in the live action Stargirl TV series as the Robinson version of the Shade, playing a similar role as an amoral anti-hero who might be helpful but can't always be trusted.
Of course, I may be biased, because I love The Shade.
Another example where I'm definitely biased is X-Men's Changeling transforming into Morph on TAS. Changeling was kind of an interesting character, as a former terrorist turned good with a last-minute redemption, but his redemption was a half-assed flashback that retconned his death to revive Xavier. He probably would have been a forgotten footnote in X-Men history if he hadn't been pulled out of mothballs and given a personality overhaul to become Morph, a much more fun, heroic and sympathetic character. I think it says a lot of that all the alternate versions of Changeling that appeared in the comics since TAS (AoA and Exiles) have been clearly based on TAS Morph's "wacky shape-shifter" personality, and literally called Morph rather than Changeling. The alternate version has largely eclipsed the original. That being said, it would be kind of interesting to see 616 Changeling resurrected on Krakoa with more of his original personality intact. He could join X-Force for sneaky shape-shifter espionage stuff now that Mystique is busy with the Council and Destiny. If nothing else, it would be funny to see a former criminal be absolutely appalled at Beast's actions in X-Force because "I thought you were supposed to be the good guys!"
There are examples even with bigger name characters, like Bucky Barnes being famously brought back from the dead in 2005 as a mind-controlled assassin. Despite turning Bucky darker and grittier, the revived Bucky has become something of a mainstay of the Marvel Universe, was featured in several movies, and shared a Disney+ series with Falcon in which they were clearly dating. It probably helped that by 2005, Bucky was just famous for being dead, and not many people were reading old comics from the 40's and 50's, so Winter Soldier could over-write teen Bucky.
And of course, there are major overhauls to even long-standing characters that add depth, like Magneto going from a standard 60's villain to a noble-but-misguided terrorist, Holocaust survivor, and old friend of Xavier. I think most people acknowledge that to be a massive improvement on the character that made him far more interesting and complex.
It probably helps when the characters are taken in a "good" direction, although it can be fun to watch people go dark as well. Grim and gritty Bucky was still a largely sympathetic character, he was just "cooler" (and also alive). But I'm pretty sure absolutely no one liked DC villain Dr. Light being retconned as a rapist in Identity Crisis, even if it made him more threatening. (There was a lot to hate about Identity Crisis). I'm also not super-fond of Josh Williamson giving the original Trickster a come-back only to write him as much nastier than he was before, although at least he didn't become a rapist. Never write James Jesse again, Williamson.
Responses are mixed to Moira McTaggert, another long-dead minor character, being retconned as not only a mutant, but a mutant who has been directing and influencing all of the X-Men's history from behind the scenes. Personally, I'm sad to see one of the X-Men's best known human allies turned into a secretive and manipulative mutant, but I could deal with it until Percy turned her into an evil cyborg that wore a Banshee skin-suit. Percy had better keep his claws off Stevie Hunter, one of the few human X-Men allies left alive. (Also she's totally a congresswoman now).
Overall, I think it depends a lot on how long the character has been out of action and how well the writer uses them, and responses will always be mixed. Of course, these positive examples are not meant to justify the tendency of certain writers to take well-known characters with a long established history and completely ignore it in order to write the shallowest and laziest possible version. Everyone reading this probably has a different writer in mind, and you are all right.

Damn, I'm having another Dabi brainrot this morning...
No matter how much Dabi acting uncaring and aloof, he doesn't care about the lives he's taken, but somehow in my head as he gets closer to his Yakuza Princess Mary.
He will develop a soft spot for Eri, being gentle and kind. The little sweetheart will grow attached to him quicker than Kai, Dabi's appearance might freak her out at first, but compared to Overhaul in her mind, he's not that scary.
The more time he spends at the Shie Hassaikai base with Mary and Eri as a "temp" for the yakuza in the place of Toga(I twitched them in my story to give him and Mary for time together, and more tension between him and Kai, haha!). He can't help of thinking about his past with his old family and the part of himself that died, slowly resurfacing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dabi will play barbies, dress-up or pretend with her while Mary and "Overbeak" are busy with work, or sneak her outside to play in the garden and snacks, read to her and nap together. She get's to see his more mischievous and playful side, giving piggy back rides and air plane! Letting her be the Princess and him the Villain or Dragon waiting for their brave female knight to save her (Mary) from the wicked evil alchemist (Kai).
Tumblr media
The first time she asks her mommy, if he's going to be her new daddy. He's taken back, then smirks eyes glowing more heavy-lidded and predatory at his Princess, smirk growing on his scared lips. Dabi got updated from boy toy to "daddy," oh, you bet he's going to tease his firebrand about it mercilessly.
Of course, Kai is going to be irritated and pissed off that Dabi is using Eri to get closer to his angel! Trying to shove his way into their home life, and it's working!
Tumblr media
Tell me what ya'll think? It's been circling in my head since late last night til I finally starting writing Dabi's interactions with Eri. Before finally calling it quiets and forcing myself to go to bed. XD
Writing Eri asking, if Mary was going to have babies with Kai or Dabi first wrote itself, and then she asked if Dabi was going to be her new daddy! I had to, it was so cute! Her excitement about not only having a new mommy, but two daddies was adorable!

Kaito was just messing on his phone while sitting on the couch until his father walked in the room.
"Hey dad." He greeted nonchantly before Kai stopped on his tracks and stared at his son like he had three heads instead on one before slowly coming towards you with a strange look.
"Dearest?" You hummed in acknowledgment while cutting some vegetables "You noticed that brat just... stopped calling me "daddy" out of the sudden? And what the hell he eat it to grow up like that?"
You giggled while putting the ingredients on the pot and turning your front to him with an amusement look.
"Hon, Kaito has already 13 years." You giggled whiel showing your hand towards him "He doesn't call me "mommy" either, and he is on the perfect size from boys on that age."
"But just yesterday that brat was learning how to walk... the hell?" He mumbled as you giggled at him before returning to your own thing as Kai continued to stare at his son, just when his younger daughter entered he ruffled her hair playfully but still with his (E/c) 's on his phone.
.
.
.
He looked at his son again, playing video games this time as he saw the boy getting frustated at not succeeding a level and just turning it off.
"Not throwing a tantrum?" He arched his eyebrow at the boy who only shrugged with a angry expression.
"I'm angry sure, but not a kid anymore to be throing tantrums." Yeah right
"Since when?" He asked as Kaito just felt completely confused.
"Uh... I just am not a kid anymore?" Kaito laughed as Kai got up and just stared for solid two minutes before he put his gloved hand on the top of his head. Kaito let out a groan and tried to pry his father's hand out of his head but Kai only put his other hand on the top of his head and started to rub both of his hands.
"Daaad!" He groaned "Stop this!"
"No. Go back being the small brat you were." Kai mumbled nonchantly as Kaito started to laugh involuntarily "You grew up way too fast you little rascal."
"I grew up normally!" He protested "I'm not a kid anymore!"
"You are."
You and Kin just entered the room and found the two males on that scene as you snorted and the little girl put her hands on her mouth to prevent a giggle to escape from her lips as you two decided to leave it alone.
.
.
.
"Not only Kaito is growing up but Kin as well?" Kai asked in horror after you told him some clothes weren't fitting on the seven years old anymore.
"No." You laughed while getting in bed alongside with him "The washing machine just went crazy and her clothed were damaged Kai, calm down."
"How can I calm down when my son whose was just in yours and my arms yesterday and now doesn't let me even touch him anymore?" He said with a hand running over his looks before he heard you giggling and holding onto his arm.
"Kai, kids do that. They grow up." He looked at you deaf in the eyes before muttering that he didn't even want it that making you snort "You dont want your kids to grow up?"
"... not like that. Is just that he grew up way too fast."
.
.
.
"Could have stay a midget for just a bit longer." Kaito looked up from his breakfast with a offended yet shocked look.
"First, I'm not a midget, second, what is going on dad?"
"Just yesterday you were calling me "daddy" what happened?"
"Dad what the heck?!"
You laughed alongsides with Kin as Kai went to her and picked the girl up.
"At least your sister is not betraying me and not growing up so soon."
"Mom what did I do?!" Kaito exclaimed in desperation as you tried to hold your laughter before Kaito groaned again at feeling his father's hand on his head.
"Get back to being small you brat." He mumbled as Kin was almost dying of laughter as Kaito shouted for him to stop.
"DAD STOP IT! I'M A GROW UP NOW!"
"Only my dead and cold body. For me you will always be that midget brat son of mine." You saw the hints of a smile even if your husband was wearing his casual black mask, only admiring the scene of Kai and your two children.
.... poor you just had a heart attack though when your husband commented if it would be bad for you two to have another kid-

Chapter Forty-Four: Doku Kobura: Remnants of Obsession
Kobura smiled to himself. His fingers brushed the keys of his keyboard. He loved the poetic innocence of subtlety. It was her third phone in a row he so easily hacked into, but he planned on being so much gentler this time. Anna Kokoro was an angel, a porcelain doll that needed to be handled with care or she might shatter and break. He had been rougher with her in the past, and it only frightened her away from him. He would ease into the relationship for her. She deserved as much.
He was angry when he discovered her parents had ignored her message about passing the Provisional Hero License Exam. He hoped his clone had expressed how much he wanted to support her, as her parents were too foolish to understand her full potential. He felt that sending her a single message of acknowledgment was all she truly wanted, a simple congratulations.
Kobura spun around in his professional black and green gaming chair. His fingers clenched around the chair’s armrests as he looked at his wall adorned with pictures of her. How he wished so desperately to have gone to the Provisional Hero License Exam himself, to have touched her hair, to have kissed her. He wasn’t allowed to spend hours that day admiring her pictures. He had much bigger business to attend to. He had kept a close eye on Anna’s progress at UA. He knew that first years were going to be allowed to participate in the work-study program, despite concerns. It was only a matter of time until they had made the final decision. He also knew a lot of the qualifying work studies were going to be involved with investigating a drug that had been making headway in recent times. Kobura only got pieces from the web about it, careless exchanges in which one party wanted to know about another party’s involvement with a drug that would destroy someone’s quirk.
From little bits of information he picked up with social interactions, which he so hated at times, he knew that a lot of the drugs were being distributed and communicated about in an old-fashioned manner, an exchanging of papers, which was exactly why he was attempting to pursue assistance from Twice. He wanted to know more about it. He wanted to make sure that he was there for Sweet Anna’s first experiences. Kobura knew Sweet Anna wouldn’t be able to resist an opportunity to work with a mentor so she could get closer to her dream to become a Pro Hero. She would join the program, and he would finally be able to see her again.
There was only one problem with his little plan to get information from Twice, however. He wasn’t exactly in good terms with The League of Villains. Shigaraki was mad at him to Kobura’s chagrin. Kobura had disobeyed orders more than once for Sweet Anna’s sake, not that they would understand. Kobura respected Shigaraki, so he felt guilt for doing so, but he had no choice. Anna needed him. They should all have understood his intentions.
Kobura got Twice in trouble. After being told specifically that he wasn’t allowed to go to the Provisional Hero License Exam, Kobura asked Twice to make him a copy. He’d hesitated of course, but Kobura was more than convincing. Technically, he never disobeyed orders because it wasn’t actually him. Still, Shigaraki was angry, hence why Kobura was sitting in his apartment room, rather than hanging out with Toga or Twice.
Kobura picked up his phone, a sleek design he’d built himself. He hovered his slender fingers over Twice’s number, wishing so much that he was closer to him. He could tell that Twice and Toga were far closer with each other. It wasn’t that Twice didn’t like him, he just adored Toga in a way he would never achieve. He would call him Jin if he felt like it wouldn’t make him uncomfortable. He called the number.
Twice picked up almost immediately. “I shouldn’t be talking to you, Kobura. You got me in trouble. What’s up buddy? Want to hang out?”
“Sorry about the exam situation. I told you it was for a good cause. Besides, I held up my end of the bargain. Two cinnamon rolls and an upgrade to your television. I’ve got it all done. It streams illegal movies and everything.” Kobura tapped a finger against the medium sized flat screen. He didn’t need to tell Twice that he had also bugged it. It was for Twice’s safety after all, only for Kobura to keep tabs on his good friend.
“I can’t stay mad at you, but Shigaraki sure can. I should have asked for three cinnamon buns.”
“What are you up to? More recruitment?” Kobura asked, rolling his chair over to Anna’s picture-wall. His fingers grazed one of his favorites, one where she was sleeping soundly in his lap.
“Yeah, I’ve got this new lead. Can’t really discuss it though. Some dude named Kai Chisaki has been making some suspicious moves. Wanted to talk some business with Shigaraki.”
“Do you need a buddy to come with you? I’d be happy to go on a little adventure. I’m so bored here. I miss you and Toga.” Kobura leaned back in his chair, unhooking one of his knives from his jacket. He spun his chair around, flipping the knife between his fingers. He placed his legs onto the ground, frowning as he spotted the four pictures of his rivals lined up on the wall, already riddled with knife holes. He lined up the shot with his eyes, aiming for Hitoshi Shinso. He’d noticed recently that Anna’s actions online or on her phone have been with him. It left a bitter taste in his mouth.
“I don’t know, Kobura. This might be easier if I go it alone. I wouldn’t want you to get into unwanted trouble again with Shigaraki. Sure thing! Meet me at my place. I was nervous to do it by myself anyway. This new guy kind of gives me the creeps.”
Kobura snapped his wrist, releasing the blade at just the right moment. The knife sunk into the wall with a heavy thunk, right between the eyes. Kobura shifted forward, placing his elbows on his thighs as he leaned his head down with the phone still to his ear. “If the guy makes you nervous, I don’t mind tagging along. I’ll keep quiet. You won’t even know that I’m there. I’ll bring the TV too.”
“Look, if you come with me, there are some conditions. If the guy agrees to come to the new hangout, you’re not allowed to come in with us. Got it? I don’t want Shigaraki upset, seeing you there. Rules are overrated. If you’re with me, we stick together like glue. Got it? Shiggy will get over it if he sees you.”
Kobura grinned. “Twice, It’s okay. If we’ve got to go to the new hangout, I’ll stick back or get lost. I’m not looking to make Shigaraki angry or anything. I promise. You understand I had to do what I had to do for Sweet Anna, but he doesn’t, so I’ll wait for this to cool down a bit. I’m not looking to cause trouble. I just want to hang out with a friend.”
“A friend?” Twice asked. His voice seemed to rise at the end, gripping Kobura’s attention.
Kobura furrowed his eyebrows, a little caught off guard that an opposing response didn’t come right after. He paused from speaking, running a hand through his white hair, and waiting for the contradictory words to come spilling from Twice’s lips, but nothing came.
“Yes. A friend,” Kobura said softly. His fingers tightened over his phone. He had trouble holding relationships. One reason for this was because of his quirk, the other being his shitty parents. They were second-rate villains at best. Their only true relationship had been with each other, having a child wasn’t exactly something they’d planned for. They liked living life on the edge, and it caught up to them. Kobura admired their love for each other, but he hated that they weren’t more present in his own life. It was the same reason that Kobura wasn’t going out of his way to get them out of jail again. He liked the freedom, and he was sick of them pretending like he didn’t exist and then all of sudden asking for his help.
Kobura was lonely. Well, he was lonely until he met Shigaraki, Twice, and Toga. Everything simply fell into place when he met Sweet Anna. He felt like his life had finally been filled with the love he was always missing.
“Or, are you going to be a trickster?” There was the missing other half of the response that Kobura was looking for from Twice.
Kobura sighed. He stood from his seat, pushing it back and hoisting the medium television from the ground. “I’m on my way. Hang tight.”
Kobura always got a lot of looks on the street, whether if that was from his white hair or his unusual serpent-like eyes, he never could tell. There was an air about him, he knew that. He was attractive, which his parents had chalked up to good luck. He kept himself clean, polished. He’d get a lot of attention from the girls, although he didn’t pay them any mind. All he ever wanted was Sweet Anna to be looking at him.
With the television tucked under his arm, and his other hand tugging up his hood, Kobura dissolved into the crowd. When he wanted to, he could disappear almost like a shadow. It made things easier this way, like he was in control of not wanting to be closer to others rather than having to.
Twice’s building was in the shadier part of town. He lived meagerly as far as Kobura understood. Kobura had offered for Twice to come stay in his building, but he refused, saying he liked the atmosphere and didn’t want to owe him. It was a real pity because Kobura enjoyed his company, almost as much as Toga’s.
By the time Kobura came upon the right building, he could hear Twice arguing with himself from his open window. He slipped off his hood, ready to open the entrance door, until another tenant came barging out. Kobura was quick to move out of the way, just barely saving the flat screen he was carrying from being smashed.
Kobura wasn’t much for conflict. He’d rather be behind a screen trolling than in a fist fight. He wasn’t weak by any means. It was a habit of his not to interact with people if he didn’t have to so accidents didn’t happen. Before meeting Anna, Kobura wasn’t able to get close to anyone physically without worrying that he might infect them by accident. A kiss, a bite, a cut, any fluid from his body coming into contact with a stranger could cause them to lose themselves. Kobura didn’t like causing chaos for chaos’ sake. It bored him. There was no challenge in it. If Kobura’s quirk affected someone, it was over for them, too easy.
The young woman who had stumbled out of the apartment building scowled at Kobura with a haughty look. She hooded her eyes and smiled at him cruelly. Red lipstick had smudged her teeth. “Watch it, pretty boy,” she said softly. “Almost busted that handsome face of yours.”
Kobura stared at her, keeping his face emotionless. He waited for her to move out of his way, as she adjusted the front of her shirt, before pouting her lips and giving him a once over.
“You don’t look like you’re from this part of town,” she said. “You eighteen, Sweetie?”
“No,” Kobura answered.
The woman clicked her tongue, losing interest immediately. “Kids these days. All of them look like grown ass men. I’m not trying to catch a case.” She waved her hand at him, her chipped fingernails nearly flicking him in the forehead. “I would watch my wallet ‘round here, Kid. You look like you stumbled off a runway.” She lit a cigarette, before finally parting and her eyes no longer paying him any mind.
Kobura entered the building, climbing up the rotting stairs, until he reached Twice’s door. It was unlocked. He pushed it open to see Twice, staring out the window. His mask was on, but it appeared he hadn’t changed into his full suit.
“You decent?” Kobura asked, chuckling.
“I’m a criminal. Why were you hoping to see something?”
Kobura set the television down next to the old one, wiping his hands on his legs. “You’re not dressed yet? I thought we were going on a little adventure.”
“I got distracted. The voices started talking to me again.”
“Isn’t that Toga’s line?” Kobura approached Twice, careful to give him some space. He noticed that Twice had been spending a lot more time thinking lately. He’d be chatty if he was acting like himself, but recently he’d kept quiet at some of The League meetings. If something was on his mind or bothering him, he hadn’t told Kobura.
Twice’s fingers tensed around the windowsill. He knocked his head against the windowpane. Kobura frowned, crossing his arms over his chest. It wasn’t his place to intrude on Twice’s personal issues. As much as Kobura wanted to be his friend, he didn’t want to hurt him. That’s what he had always been best at after all.
“I can set up the television for you. You’ll be watching movies by sundown,” Kobura stated, attempting to change the subject.
“I can handle it. Shit, I wouldn’t know how to set up something like that.”
Kobura lifted the old television from the dust-ridden table it had been sitting on. He made quick work of the wiring, switching it over with deft fingers. Already having set up everything beforehand, all Twice needed to do was turn it on.
“Does it bother you sometimes? I don’t care what you think.”
Kobura tilted his head back. “Does what bother me?” he asked.
“Being a villain? One of the crazies? Being a hero? One of the normies?”
“Not really. I just stepped into the place that society wanted me to be in. If they want to label me a villain, that’s up to them.”
Twice finally looked over at him. His hands were holding a lit cigarette that he couldn’t smoke through his mask. If Kobura could have seen Twice’s eyes, he probably would have seen them tear up.
“Does it bother you?” Kobura asked, setting the controller on couch.
“No. I like to think I picked the right path. Who knows?” Twice shook out his arms, whistling sharply. “Sorry about the depressing crap. I’ve just been thinking lately. Toga found somebody and so did you. I should just be happy that things are going the way that they are. I’m jealous. We’re supposed to be the three musketeers, and the two of you are too good for me now.”
Kobura cracked a smile, flashing his fangs. “If you wanted a wingman, you should have just asked. Want me to hook you up on a dating site where it makes everyone swipe right on you?”
Twice shook his head, but it turned into a nod. “You’re not getting it. You couldn’t be closer to understanding me!”
Twice left the room, leaving Kobura to try to find a place he could sit without feeling like he’d be sitting in something. The one difference between Kobura and The League was cleanliness. Kobura was careful with his hygiene. In comparison, Kobura was almost certain that Dabi hadn’t taken a bath since he was a child.
Eventually, Kobura settled for the same place next to the window that he’d leaned back before. He thumbed through his phone, but Anna was less active on all of her social media platforms. Her friends at UA gave out much more information, so he’d often skim through their stories, catching a glimpse of a picture where Sweet Anna had been caught off guard. Kobura grinned, spotting a posted picture, where she was eating some sweets. He’d have to make a note to buy her some pocky the next time he was at the convenience store. He thought she’d like that.
“Ready to go? Stay here.”
Kobura turned his gaze up from his phone, noticing that Twice had finally changed into his full costume. Kobura was planning to stay in a lower profile on the mission so he opted for a black mask that would cover his mouth and nose, along with his hood.
“Lead the way.” Kobura motioned for him to leave first.
Kobura knew more about Kai Chisaki’s, or Overhaul’s, intentions before even crossing his path. A dying breed, the Yakuza were attempting to build a name for themselves again through a new distributed drug. From what he could glean from the dark web and rumors, Overhaul wanted The League of Villains for publicity, funds, manpower, etc. The Yakuza have been shadowed by villains over time, following the discovery of quirks. It was only logical they’d be coming to Twice to get to Shigaraki. To Twice, this meeting would be a normal means of recruitment that he’d set up himself, but Kobura knew the amount of planning Overhaul had done to ensure that he’d get in contact with Twice to then get in to contact with Shigaraki. He knew a bit too much in the matter. Overhaul didn’t care about causalities, and it worried him that Twice would have to go alone, so he was glad he managed to weasel his way into the meeting.
Day became night. Kobura and Twice waited in the designated meet up area. They were only a short walk from the new hideout that was reserved for meetings with possible villain candidates. Kobura wasn’t supposed to know that, as he was currently in a “timeout” from The League of Villains for his misbehavior, but he did. Kobura always knew too much. The two villains exchanged idle chatter as they waited. Kobura was relieved to finally talk to Twice again. He hated having to take a break from them.
Kobura twisted Anna’s necklace around his wrist, fidgeting with the blue expensive stone that dangled from the silver chain.
“I’m thinking about getting Sweet Anna a gift, but I’m not sure what to get her,” Kobura admitted.
Twice placed his hand under his chin, giving it an intense amount of thought. “I would get her something simple. You don’t want to scare her off with commitment. Buy her an engagement ring. She’d be crazy to say no to you.”
Kobura blushed at the thought. He’d considered marriage. The moment he discovered that Anna had been made for him, he wanted nothing more than to keep her forever by his side. Despite his desire to make their relationship eternal, he knew that Anna would believe they were too young. Her parents didn’t even know him yet.
“It’s too early for a proposal,” Kobura stated. “Flowers are too cliché.” Kobura dramatically laid his arm over his eyes. “What to do?” He sighed. What gift could you get the most beautiful girl in the world? If only Sweet Anna could tell him what she wanted, but he accepted her for her quietness. He loved how coy she was with him. She would never tell him exactly what she wanted. It just wasn’t Anna.
“Toga’s got a plushy that looks like Deku, a creepy little green rabbit. Why not get her a stuffed animal? You could always send her your severed ear. I’m sure it worked for someone desperate to appease a lover.”
“Too mundane. She’d appreciate it, but I don’t want the gift to be like anyone else’s. The ear is an interesting proposal, but it’s a bit grotesque. I’ll think it over. I can’t make the decision hastily.” Kobura leaned back stretching. “When is this guy supposed to show up anyway?”
“He’s late. It’ll be early for him if he shows up at all.”
Kobura scoffed a bit. “I don’t see what The League of Villains could use the Yakuza for, but I guess if he believes he’s got enough of a reason to search us out then it must be something big.”
“I didn’t talk about him before. How much research did you do on this guy?” Twice asked.
Kobura shut his eyes. “You were nervous. Of course I did my research.” He leaned forward, so he was close to Twice’s ear. “But, between you and me, I’ve had an eye on this guy for some time. Overhaul has been causing quite the ruckus in the villain community, despite trying to be quiet about it.”
“You know too much. You’re a great asset to the team!” Twice gave him a double thumbs up.
“I was told that there was only going to be one of you.” The voice came from the shadows. Kai Chisaki stepped out of the darkness, revealing a tall man, brown hair, yellow eyes, a collar of purple, and a mask resembling an ancient plague doctor.
“Just meeting with an old friend. I was just about to get lost,” Kobura stated.
Overhaul narrowed his eyes at him. “Unfortunate that you have to leave so soon.”
Kobura felt it. He saw it. This guy was trouble. Twice was right to be worried, which he rarely was. Kobura knew his friend trusted strangers easily. This Yakuza was up to something. The stench of betrayal lingered heavily in the air. Despite this, Kobura had no choice but to leave. If he ruined a new deal for Shigaraki, he’d probably never be allowed back. And, if he ruined this for Twice, he may not want to ever see him again.
“See you around, Twice,” Kobura said, changing the tone in his voice as a warning for him.
“Goodbye! Good riddance!”
Kobura didn’t go far. He trailed the inner sidewalk where more pedestrians lingered for cover. He’d go through the more public area to reach the warehouse that he knew The League of Villains was holed up in for meet ups, just to keep an eye out. He couldn’t shake the feeling that something bad was about to happen. It irritated him not to step in, but he was being “good” and was trying to follow orders. He hated both of those things. The reason that he kept his parents locked away was for the freedom it gave him. To be under someone’s leadership, even if it was the great Shigaraki that he knew and loved, set him off balance. He trusted Shigaraki. He liked him for taking him in less for a man of hire and more for just a misfit looking for something to do. Shigaraki could be unhinged at times, but Kobura knew he wasn’t perfect either.
Kobura positioned himself on the roof of a nearby building, keeping low so he wouldn’t be spotted. His fingers danced with a blade. He propped his head up with his hand. He didn’t expect the Yakuza to make a move against the majority of The League. It would be a death sentence for Overhaul if he tried anything. That didn’t mean that Kobura didn’t think that he’d try something anyway. As long as Kobura stayed out of the way, he didn’t see a problem with keeping an eye on things.
Twice and Overhaul entered the building without a hitch. Kobura let out a breath he was holding in. He was mostly worried that Twice could have been jumped. Just thinking about it made his blood boil. About the same time Kobura had finally decided to descend from his perch, his sharp eyesight caught movement outside the warehouse. Kobura crouched down, trying to catch it again, hoping it was a dog or a bird. As suspected, it was neither. A man, most likely one of Overhaul’s men was doing a shitty job of trying to hide himself in wait outside the building.
To hell with protocol, this was going to be an ambush. Who knew how many men would actually show in Kai Chisaki’s favor. He had a whole force of Yakuza behind him, second-rate villains or not.
Kobura pulled out his phone, calling Twice. Of course it rang once and was sent straight to voicemail.
“Shit,” Kobura breathed. The rest of The League would have silenced their phones out of respect for Shigaraki. Everyone except Toga and Dabi. And, from what Dabi had been on about before Kobura was sent away, he wouldn’t be at this meeting, and was more than happy not to see Kobura’s snake face around while he was out doing more important business.
Kobura tried Toga’s phone as he rushed down the fire escape as fast and as silently as he could. He cursed under his breath again, when it was also sent directly to voicemail. He wouldn’t be able to reach any adversaries this far away, so the only thing he had was his speed. This whole meeting was probably timed out. An ambush would be executed quickly to avoid suspicions from The League. Should negotiations not go in Chisaki’s favor, the Shie Hassaikai, Overhaul’s group, would strike.
Kobura could only watch in horror as the large bay door was broken through by a hulking member of Chisaki’s Yakuza. Kobura sprung over the rail of the fire escape without much thought. He landed awkwardly, feeling his ankle twist unnaturally. Fighting through the pain, he shot forward, sprinting across the landscape. He pulled a few knives from his person, aiming at another member of the Shie Hassaikai moving to go into the building and flicking his wrist. The blade sunk into his leg, and he yelped in pain. Kobura launched over him, using his fallen form as a springboard and breaking into the building.
Kobura skidded to a stop, when he saw that the bottom half of Magne’s body lying dead and bloody. He choked down a guttural scream. He should have been there to protect her. He should have been there to protect The League. Shigaraki and Chisaki were facing off in the center of the room, neither of which making a move. A pile of dust settled in front of Chisaki. Kobura locked eyes with Toga. Twice was helping Mr. Compress whose left arm was gone. Twice was frozen in place. His chest was rising and falling as if he were having a panic attack.
Kobura saw red. He reached into his jacket. His fingers tightened around handles to blades that he fully intended to embed in every single member of the Shie Hassaikai still standing. Overhaul appeared to be saying something, walking in Kobura’s direction, the fool. Kobura coiled his muscles, adjusting his posture.
“I said no, Kobura!” Shigaraki’s voice broke through Kobura’s rage.
The six blades between his fingers slipped free, clattering over the cement floor. Why was Shigaraki letting them walk free? They killed one of the family. They maimed another. It took everything Kobura had to let them leave. His fingers trembled and pulsed, as he tried to ground himself. Was this his fault? He knew more about the Shie Hassaikai than any of the others. He had a bad feeling about this meeting, but he still listened to orders.
“We’ll try again next time,” Chisaki’s breathy voice hit Kobura like a slap to the face.
Try what next time? Kill another person that meant something to Kobura? Upend everything that Shigaraki had worked so hard for? This man only had his own agenda on his mind. He did not care for The League of Villains. Kobura wished so desperately he had put venom on the blade that he managed to hit one of the men with because now…he couldn’t do anything now. It pained him. He clenched his skull between his fingers. Composure. He had to remember to keep his composure. Wait until the right moment to strike. There would be time. Time for revenge.
No matter how much he felt, Kobura had to keep his emotions in check. He had to stop himself from hurting people. He’d done so well. He’d calmed himself. When he got worked up like this, nothing could usually stop him. Shigaraki showed so much restraint. He deserved his respect. If he blew it now, Kobura wouldn’t be able to come back. He wouldn’t be allowed to protect Toga or Twice.
Kobura straightened. His fingers fell from his ghostly locks. His eyes were locked on the blood, the blood of his comrades. Kobura was so used to being on his own, making decisions on his own, that he didn’t think his actions could have consequences like this. He could always predict a bad situation. He could always be a step ahead of everyone else. He couldn’t control what happened to others though. He couldn’t be fast enough for them.
“Shigaraki, let me help,” Kobura said.
Shigaraki turned his eyes up to him. His fingers scratched feverishly against his neck. He paused only to glance at the retreating forms of Toga, Twice, and Mr. Compress. Mr. Compress would need immediate attention for his arm.
“Let me help make things right. I know I screwed up, but I promise you I won’t disobey your direct orders again. Don’t make me stay away. I can’t let this happen again. I won’t allow this to happen again. Not to The League of Villains.”
