Now accepting both very-last-minute readers for Part One (imminent) and early applications for the whole book (this fall) !! Read on for details:
What is Heirloom? An urban fantasy novel with some horror influence & a bit of (doomed, or at least ill-advised) queer romance! It follows two psychic vampire hunters named Nikita and Sami as they contend with the work they feel obligated to do: first killing vampires, then locating cursed items, which leads them to grapple with the question of how far they'll go to save a young woman who is strangely and uniquely cursed. Features a diverse cast, "found family" but complicated, explorations of family obligation, gender/transness, violence vs. pacificism, mental illness/recovery, and more.
What should I know going in? It can be kind of dark at times, though probably less action-driven than your average vampire hunter story. Content warning for explicit blood, violence, death (human and humanoid), etc. as well as depictions of hallucinations, panic attacks, implied abuse. I can elaborate on request!
What kind of feedback are you looking for? I honestly love all feedback but am particularly looking for broad opinons and impressions on characters, worldbuilding, plot, etc. I include questions as a guideline, but they're not mandatory.
What's the timeline? This is a two-part book, and I'm having it read in two parts for various reasons! The first is June 19 - July 31 and only includes the 40,000-word Part One; the second is TBA (this fall, sometime) for the entire book.
How do I sign up? Fill out this quick (four question!) form here if you might be interested! You're not obligated to read just because you sign up - it just means I'll get in touch with more info to see if you'd still be interested :)

Unpopular writing opinion:
We need more absolutely vile, unlikeable villains. There’s a place for villains you can "babygirl" but I’m bored of it. Give me the most nasty disgusting villains that will make me cringe into the earth you cowards.
There's this entire thing that's cropped up around 'likeable' or 'relatable' villains where, instead of being a cautionary tale about how we can all end up there or how people who seem lovely can actually be vile, it's become "uwu babygirl isn't evil after all"
And like there's a place for it! I like my fair share of babygirl villains! Hell I was there all the way back when Thor was released and Loki kicked off the popularisation of this trend!
I'm just,,, bored of it now. Especially when I'm seeing people do the whole babygirlification process on real-ass human beings???? It's gone too far.
Give me vile.
Give me the eugenicist who wants to eradicate 'imperfections' because he thinks he's an agent of God
Give me an abusive horrible parent but don't tell me they're trying just show me from their kid's eyes the catharsis of getting them the fuck out of their life
Give me the fuckin westboro baptist church for elves or someshit i don't care, just give me something I can hate with my entire being so that I can feel the rush of vindication when they inevitably get defeated.
There's too many irredeemable, vile people in real life. Especially as a trans person right now, it's easy to fall into despair when I see how untouchable those people seem to be, and how many people will defend them based on their motivations or some other "relatable" bullshit.
Give me a story that shows they're not as untouchable as they seem. Give me a story that shows there's always hope for the downtrodden; that the vile, horrible people trying to destroy us are just that, and they don't deserve a single tear. Stop trying to humanise our abusers, because we know they're humans but they don't care that we are too.
Just once, give me someone I can sink my teeth into and tear apart without the slightest touch of empathy. Give me what I can't have in real life.

The Rose House, a Victorian relic in the quaint college town of Parrish Mills, harbors a dark secret. A malevolent spirit haunts its halls, and seeks to claim the home’s newest owner, young professor Riley Whittaker. Riley seeks the aid of the enigmatic Mia Graves, a captivating witch with a mysterious past. Only Mia can stand against the vengeful spirit's spectral grip and the lingering enigma of Lila Rose, another ethereal resident of the haunted mansion. In a dance between danger and desire, Mia must unravel her own darkness to save Riley from the clutches of the supernatural.
My new novel, The Witch and the Rose, is now available in paperback and Kindle editions. It's queer (occasionally spicy) contemporary fantasy, and it's a lot of fun.
Not that I'm biased or anything.

Hey! You! Chronically online millennial looking at this ad!
Do you like lesbians? Do you like queer urban fantasy? Are you sick and tired of Chicago being the main character of every story and wish you could live in the faerie suburbs? Most important of all, do you like free shit?
Great, because this
Tumblr media
is for you, and you don’t have to pay one single piece of money for it. In fact, odds are I’ve paid money to put this in front of your eyeballs in the worst Blazed post of all time. But if you’re already here, you might as well click one tiny little link for me. What could it cost you?
Click here for part one of Grocery Shopping is a Dangerous Job, a cozy urban fantasy novella about internalized classism, disability metaphors, shapeshifting of all flavors, F/F and trans!M/F relationship sideplots, and most important of all, what happens when you try and fight a kaiju with a mop after drinking half a gallon of cold process soap at thin trace.
Now, right now that link only goes to part one. Part two will be posted 3 May 2024, so, you know, after I’ve fought the horrible beast known as HTML style tags in the great game of copy/paste. Builds up the suspense, as they say. But I’m only gonna enjoy posting it if you read my story and send me hate mail about how much it sucks. And it has to be detailed hate mail, guys. None of that lazy shit. Tell me what specifically pissed you off or don’t bother.
There! That’s the end of the ad! Go do something useful with your life now, like read my story!

for the biters.
We're solving mysteries in all of these, but if you want cozy I recommend How To Bite Your Neighbor and Win a Wager, and Lore and Lust. The rest are a shade darker, and they're all set in the modern world. And yes, they're all spicy.

Fresh Kill Character Aesthetics
Tumblr media
This? This is just some quick little aesthetic boards for my boys from Fresh Kill.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Staked through the heart and you’re to blame.
Still overworked—a little less underappreciated—Eric Marcelino stumbles through an Ironport he doesn’t recognize. The city has gone eerily quiet. There hasn’t been a vampire attack in weeks and Eric is starting to wonder what the vampires are planning.
Tony McMahon’s boyfriend is perfect. Kind. Caring. Hot. Except his sister hates him, and well . . . he might be a vampire. But that’s okay, because Tony has a plan. Sort of.
Change is good, or that’s what Hunter Delacroix has always heard anyway. So then why does moving into the dorms on Moondale University campus feel like a surrender? And why does every glance from Eric feel like a betrayal?
Ironport is quiet, but maybe it’s just the calm before the storm. With broken hearts, grief, and a little existential dread hanging over all of their heads Eric’s team might find themselves six feet under instead of the vampires. This is gonna suck.

Are you looking for a spooky read? Do you like urban fantasy or monster stories? Do you like stories about queer ladies dealing with monsters and getting into (and out of) shenanigans? Check out Shadows and a Touch of Magic.
From shadows that can be savior or destroyer to the creation of the first mermaids, Shadows and a Touch of Magic is a collection of monster stories and urban legends featuring women who love women full of fear, of love, of the strange, and of the whimsical.
Read on for a snippet from each short story 💜
"As she moved to the center of the room, trying to imagine her furniture here and herself living here, a cold breeze ghosted across the back of her neck. It raised the small hairs on the back of her neck and goosebumps down her arms." - Widow's Walk
"They were there again. The shadows that seemed to dip, sway and follow after her. Nijah Khoury glanced back as the edge of one shadow seemed to reach out towards her." - Shadowdancers
"“So, you want to be healed,” Amrita said after another sip of the wine. “What will you offer in return?”
“Anything,” Machi begged. “Anything I have. Please.”
“I heal you, you give me your first child. Fair’s fair, right?”" - Promises, Promises
"Thrilled that she was still alive, Cecily twisted in the water to study herself. Her tail was longer than her legs had been. She could feel power coiled in the muscles and ached to stretch her new body out." - To Become The Sea
"It called to her, stretched out lovely fingers and tempted her in. A small smile tugged at Haley’s lips as she listened. It sounded like the melody was coming from the opposite way of the lake again." - Feast of Sorrowed Breath
"She could clearly remember the last time she’d been swimming, the sun shining down on the blue water like it was today. That was years ago, however. No matter how many times she came to this pier, she never dared the water." - Trapped
"Have you ever heard of the smile maidens? I’d never heard of them before my travels and, at the beginning, I’d scoffed at the idea of them. It seemed such a silly name for a supernatural force that killed people or stole their souls." - The Smile Maidens

It's here! It's out! You can buy it!
A Sheep in Wolf's Clothing has officially released!
For those who haven't heard me going on and on about this, It's being published by Bella Books, who have a particular focus on sapphic literature. There's some really fun representation including a trans protagonist, and despite being urban fantasy it's pretty warm and sweet.
Tumblr media
Harper Zeale is finally taking up the family business—hunting supernatural threats. One of her first jobs is to solve the murder of a girl at Malcolm-Baptiste College, a small school in central Illinois. It’s obvious the killer was a werewolf, but Esther Talbot—the only werewolf around—is a harmless puppy who wouldn’t hurt a fly.
Without any leads to follow, Harper enlists the help of Esther and her friends in the search for the killer. All she has to do is keep them all alive, keep her dangerous instincts in check, and keep a lid on her foolish crush.
I'm really proud of this thing. It feels like a ton of work has gone into it, and folks seem pretty hyped about it.
If you would like to preview it first, Bella Books has the full first chapter available for free so you can get a feel for the vibe. And if it does strike your fancy, it's available for purchase through pretty much any major retailer, up to and including everything from Amazon to Thriftbooks.
Please please please, if this sounds like your kinda thing, give it a try, and maybe pass this along to your mutuals. I would really appreciate it!

People don't realize how liminal it is to be a time traveler. How you don't ever really feel like you're in the time you are. Even when you're in your own time, everything is off, your coat was something you bought in interwar France, the book you're reading on the train is from a bookstore you had to visit in Victorian London, even your necklace was given to you by a Neolithic shaman, from a culture the rest of the world can never know. You find yourself acting strange even when in the present, much less in the past you have to work in.
You remember meeting a eunuch in 10th century China, and having him be one of the only people smart and observant enough to realize you were from a diffrent time. You could talk honestly with him, though still you couldn't reveal too much about your time. And it was still so strange hearing him talk casually about work and mention plotting assassinations. You're not allowed to but you still visit him sometimes.
You remember that the few times you were allowed to tell someone everything it was tragic. You knew a young woman who lived in Pompeii, who you had gotten close to, a few days before she would inevitably die. On your last day there you looked into her eyes, knowing soon they'd be stone and ash, that the beauty of her hair would be washed away by burning magma. And you hugged her, and told her that you wanted her to be safe, and told her she was wonderful and that you wanted her to be comfortable and happy. And you let her tongue know the joy of 21st century chocolate, and her eyes see the beauty of animation, knowing she deserved to have those joys, knowing it wouldn't matter soon. And you hugged her the last time, and told her she deserved happiness. And when you left without taking her it was like you were killing her yourself.
You want to take home everyone you're attached to. There's a college student you befriended in eighteen fifties Boston. And you can't help but see him try to solve problems you know humanity is centuries away from solving. And you just want to tell him. And it's not just that, the way he talked about the books and plays he likes, his sense of humor. There's so many people you want him to meet.
You feel the same way about a young woman you met on a viking age longship. She tells stories to her fellow warriors and traders, stories that will never fully get written down, stories that she tells so uniquely and so well. She has so many great ideas. You want so dearly to take her to somewhere she can share her stories, or where she can take classes with other writers, where she can be somewhere safe instead of being out at sea. She'll talk about wanting to be able to do something, or meet people, and you know you're so close to being able to take her, but you never can, unless she accidently finds out way too much then you can't.
You remember the longship that you met that young storyteller on. You were there before, two years ago for you, ten years later for the people on it. The young woman who told you stories wasn't there ten years later, you had been told why then but you only realize now, her uncle, who ran the ship, had been one of the first people to convert to Christianity in his nation. He killed her, either for not converting or for sleeping with women, you're not sure, but he killed her, and bragged about it when you met him ten years later.
You talk to the storyteller on the longship, ask her about the myths you're there to ask her about, the myths that she loves to tell. You look into her eyes knowing it's probably less then a year until her uncle takes her life. You ask her if you think that those who die of murder go to Valhalla. She tells you she hopes not, she doesn't see Valhalla as a gift but as a duty, she hopes for herself to go to Hel, where she wouldn't have to fight anymore. You slip and admit you're talking about her, telling her that you hope that's where she goes when she's killed. You hope to yourself you'll be forced to take her to the twenty first century, you're tempted even to make it worse, you want to have ruined her enough to be able to save her.
