RIP to the G.O.A.T!

Akira Toriyama (1955 - 2024)

As an agnostic boi, I always jokingly said that Dragon Ball (and its installments) was kinda my "religion". 😅

I was already a young adult when I watched the episode where Goku asks the people of Earth for some energy for the Genki Dama and, yes, I raised my hands without thinking at the time (and laughed a lot afterwards).

Dragon Ball Z was a tool for bringing people together, a bridge between people who gradually nurtured strong bonds of friendship over the years with Akira Toriyama's work as a common point.

Toriyama sensei created a character, a powerful and charismatic one but also an extremely lovable shounen manga protagonist, that people enjoy laughing with and at at the same time. We love to cheer for Goku and his family ('cuz it's about a big, crazy, loud, sometimes dysfunctional but always loving and accepting family).

Several situations, scenes, characters and lines from his works in manga, anime and video games, for example, have entered the pop culture vernacular worldwide. Facts are facts. lol

It saddens my heart to see you go so soon, sensei. Our love for your work is above 9000.

The desire to send all Jewish people to Israel

and to a certain degree the evangelical belief in the role Israel plays in the highly anticipated Second Coming

I am admittedly undereducated on the history of Palestine but the psychology of what's going on right now seems clear as a fucking bell. My grandparents got out of Austria but if they hadn't, I might have been raised with the same trauma. I don't know how you unlearn that. It seems very hard from the Jewish anti-zionists I've heard talk about it.

I know this makes me such a nasty person, but when someone gets something or does something nice, I always get a little bitter. Not for like things like getting a degree or doing a getting a promotion at work but more life things. Like buying a house, or getting a pet, or having financial freedom. Because those are things I probably will never have.

Having a loving family, having a childhood home, having a safe and comforting space, travelling freely, and finding love. Hanging out with friends, meeting new people, finding hobbies, and going to the movies. Living like my age...

I rather had to grow up too early and now feel guilty to dream. Makes me a little bitter, pathetic, and people pleasing.

In my next life, I wish to be born in the most average family whose love would be so overbearing. With dreams taller than the sky and with more courage. I wish the wait to there is shorter and the time spent there is much much longer.
